Monday Morning Links

They see me rollin'...they hatin'
They see me rollin’…they hatin’

Lots happening this weekend, so let’s get going.

Mike Flynn is skating on some pretty thin ice over his possible talks with Russia after the election but before he assumed his National Security position.

A mother in England had her children taken away and put up for adoption because she allowed them to sleep in her bed. The children are both under 4 years old.

Sarah Silverman went absolutely insane for a moment, with hilarious results.

Immigrant community on high alert as deportations continue in major cities across America.

And California inadvertently opens the world’s largest waterslide park.  Schlitterbahn has not announced plans on where they will try to outdo them at this time.

Have a great day out there, y’all.

I remember when Sarah Silverman used to be funny on purpose.

    1. JW

I remember when she was a hot little Jewess. Notsomuch any more.

      1. The proper nonmenclature is Shebrew*, JW. Filthy swine.

        *You’re actually correct, Mime-vanhoe.

        1. Swiss Servator

Mime?! Whew… I was afraid the Juggalos had found us.

          1. JW

            [mimes WOOP WOOP!]

          2. Mime?! Whew… I was afraid the Juggalos had found us.

When have you ever known those Faygo swilling, “whoop whoop”-sters to ever be silent?

          3. Whoop, whoops. EDIT button? What kind of railroad are we running here?

        2. JW

I will accept either, but Jewess is my preferred.

          1. JW

            EDITED! BWAHAHA!

          2. JW

            WHERE’S MY EDIT BUTTON?

          3. WHERE’S MY EDIT BUTTON?

He he, pull my… finger… and find out.

  2. another Kevin

I have some friends that live below Oroville. They evacuated last night; scary stuff. I’m
Surprised it hasn’t hit the national news until now.

Something something this is what happens when republicans run things and ignore infrastructure spending. Wait, we’re talking about California.

    1. The way the whole thing has been handled reminded me of Kevin Bacon at the end of Animal House doing the “all is well” thing. Furthermore, there should have been releasing water for a week to relieve pressure. They didn’t do so and now it’s gonna cost $200,000,000 minimum for the repair and possibly do a ton of damage to the town.

And nothing will happen to the idiot bureaucrats responsible for what happens.

      1. Tundra

Then there’s the snowpack in the sierras:

        http://andstillipersist.com/2017/02/whats-happening-at-lake-oroville/

Cool drone footage at the link.

Nice job on the Lynx, by the way!

        1. Yeah, biggest snowpack on record, IIRC. They better pray that either it remains cold for an extra few weeks this season or that Superman shows up and reverses the rotation of the earth and fixes their colossal fuckup.

Thanks for the compliment. Still learning how to use WP, but it’ll get there. I’m still pissed my alt text won’t show up.

          1. Alt-text? Whoa, whoa, whoa! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. That’s the big time, wrath of God type stuff….dogs and cats living together!

          1. DOOMco

This is crazy, why have I not heard about this ’till today?

          2. Suthenboy

I think when they start dropping things into the water to slow it down its already too late.

      2. Mad Scientist

I believe they’ve been releasing 55,000 gallons per second even before the spillway eroded. Now they’re releasing 100,000.

  3. Lord Humungus

Oooh – morning lynx!! Now with extra er, sausage… no let’s make that bacon.

Question – what are the rules in WordPress for html tags?

I guess I could google it meself.

    1. Old Man With Candy

Angle brackets, as I just found out. I *think* that there’s also an edit button after you post in case you SF a link.

  4. And California inadvertently opens the world’s largest waterslide park. Schlitterbahn has not announced plans on where they will try to outdo them at this time.

    Nice.

    THIS
    IS
    GLIB..uh…ARTA

    1. JW

      Hmmmmm

      Testing…
      italics
      STRONG

      1. JW

OK, so WordPress is a fucking liar on HTML tags.

        1. Old Man With Candy

Italics You use “em” in the tag, don’t ask me why.

          1. Italics You use “em” in the tag, don’t ask me why.

Hmm, does it now? Does bold work now? How did you do it, JW?

          2. JW

Old skool with the carreted i, which WP said would work

          3. Francisco d’Anconia

Didn’t work last night. Blockquote worked but italics and bold didn’t.

          4. Lord Humungus

            strong tags?

            WARTY STRONG!

        2. OK, so WordPress is a fucking liar on HTML tags.

Actually, F’dA found out yesterday that bold didn’t work. It’s an improvement if it now does, then.

          1. JW

            Reasonable has spoiled me.

          2. I never used Reasonable, actually. I was one step above P Brooks in that I participate in nested comments. He may use Reasonable, I dunno. He never said concretely one way or the other, but I don’t think he did/does.

          3. Lord Humungus

I found this: Comments: allowed HTML

          4. JW

An excellent find, your Humungusness! I pledge my HTML fealty to you!

          5. An excellent find, your Humungusness! I pledge my HTML fealty to you!

Agreed. Count me in with and freebie prostates exams for thee, My Liege.

Mr. and Mrs. OMWC, is there a way to sticky (phrasing) this webby that, LH hath found?

          6. Lord Humungus

            Free prostate exams?

Story: the first time I ever had this done, the doctor began describing his days at med school when they had to practice on each other.

“You von’t make me talk, schwine!” he shouted, just before prodding my favorite gland.

          7. You wonderful man! I bow to superior Google-fu.

          8. Anomalous

            I have bookmarked it.

          9. Francisco d’Anconia

            Or I fucked it up.

            Always possible.

  6. (Il)liberals attack ACLU for defending Milo Yiannopoulos.

    There is gay-bashing.

    1. Swiss Servator

I looked at that article, then saw some supreme derp revealed on the links on the side.

      Here There Be Derp

    2. Anomalous

“Enjoy being on the wrong side of history in the most embarrassing way possible,” wrote Amy Dentata, who proceeded to attack the ACLU’s defenders.

Amy Dentata? Does she have a vagina dentata?

These Dogs Feel Like ‘Warm Bologna.’ Their Fans Say Bald Is Beautiful.

“At a news conference last month, the kennel club proudly introduced three breeds that are participating for the first time in the dog show, which kicked off on Saturday with the always popular agility competition. Introduced along with two more conventional dogs — the fuzzy pumi, cute as a Muppet, and the un-fuzzy sloughi, an elegant creature out of North Africa — was a somewhat startling breed called the American hairless terrier.

What does that mean, hairless terrier?

“It means that he has no hair,” said Janet Parker of Jackson, Mich., whose hairless dog, Walkyr, will be competing at Westminster. Not short hair, as in a Doberman pinscher or a Labrador, but no hair to speak of. Skin, actually.”

    1. Suthenboy

My mother has a Mexican Hairless. It is a strange little critter.

      1. Hihndication

My wife has a hairless. It is also a strange little critter.

Bigfoot expedition inspires ban on state-funded searches for mythical creatures

“It’s sad that we have to do this, that they don’t have the ethics, that UNM doesn’t have the ethics to stop this,” Sen. Munoz said. “And now we have to draft bills to stop something that is not morally right.”

Munoz also had a little fun with the bill. In addition to Bigfoot, it also bans publicly funded searches for Pokémon, leprechauns and the Bogeyman.

Sen. Munoz said what Dr. Dyer did was unfair to students because they pay a lot of money to go to school and it shouldn’t be spent on this.

    1. ” “And now we HAVE to draft bills to stop something that is not morally right.”

Want, Senator Munoz. You misspelled “want”.

      STEVE SMITH PROTECTED BY LAW!

  9. Lord Humungus

Warning: With spring coming, STEVE SMITH will become more active:

‘Marijuana sasquatch’ spotted during Massachusetts snowstorm

One of the challenges of live television is dealing with the unexpected.

That was the case for one television reporter for WWLP 22News in Springfield, Mass., Jennifer Pagliei, who, while reporting a snowstorm Thursday, saw a Sasquatch.

The bigfoot-like creature appeared on the screen as a news camera panned across the snowy scene. It was a costume, of course, but nonetheless surprising. The crew spotted the prankster during a shoot on a Springfield intersection colloquially referred to as “The X.”

WWLP’s website stated that the Sasquatch was covered in marijuana leaves, only adding to the already-wacky incident in the south-central Massachusetts city.

  10. Black Lives Matter Toronto co-founder labels white people ‘defects’

A co-founder of Black Lives Matter Toronto argued that white people are “recessive genetic defects” and purportedly mused about how the race could be “wiped out,” according to a post on what appears to be her Facebook page.

    1. Swiss Servator

Both posted at 8:50 am ….hmmmm.

      1. Lord Humungus

Everyone knows that 8:50 is white privilege time. It says so right in the Constitution.

    2. Tundra

      The comments don’t disappoint.

It only takes a few to hit peak fried chicken.

      1. Wait, I thought the watermelons wanted to cull Humanity? I guess they are being a bit more discriminate in where to begin Highlander Forever: The Culling.

    3. Suthenboy

Looks like Yusra needs to bone up on history.

    4. Heroic Mulatto

I knew it had to be a woman.

We men know that without white men, there would be no one to father future PAWGs.

      1. Suthenboy

Holy cow, that girl has a serious case of the big ass.

  11. Suthenboy

Sarah Silverman is one sharp cookie. She spots secret Nazis no one else can see. This is worse than the secret Nazi haircut bit. They so desperately need an evil nemesis that they will find one if they are there or not.

*Question – I am not sure what the protocol around here is yet. Is it possible for me to become a contributor to the site and if so how do I do that? If anyone answers you can respond here in the comments or send me an email.

    1. She’s more of a latke, of the applesauce variety (I, of course, am sour cream all the way).

    2. Old Man With Candy

Yes, you can. Mrs. OMWC is setting me up to “promote” commenters who want to be contributors to be… contributors.

      1. Suthenboy

Thank you OMWC. I will start banging some out. I will exercise a little more propriety than I usually do in comments. We do want to have a presentable face to the public at large without compromising principle. I will try to behave.

  12. brettl

    Hello? Is this thing on?

    1. DOOMco

      Alright! Monday links!
      Hello, everyone.

      1. Tundra

        Doom!

Nice to see you here, kid!

        1. DOOMco

          You too, Tundra!

  13. DOOMco

and, I’m off to a bang. Leaving comments as replies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oabcM9SOF-E

    1. Hey don’t feel bad. It took me about three tries to get the post right.

  14. Brett L

Fucking Vox Kids. I despair for the future of our country that we have a bunch of inexperienced college graduate know nothings writing think piece articles with no sense of history. Plus all the uncomfortable hand-waving about how this old, white Marxist/pragmatist was critical of the cultural left. And the usual lies that black people’s lives never got better before Kennedy/Johnson.

    1. Yeah, but in their defense, they are retarded. Just powering their laptop up should be applauded.

      1. Brett L

I guess the fact that they skimmed 3 lectures is better than just talking right out of their asses.

  15. R C Dean

    Hi guys. ‘Sup?

Groovus hooked me up with a link. Glad I found you.

    1. DOOMco

Hey RC! good to see ya.

    2. Lord Humungus

      Good to see you, RC!

I always look forward to your contributions.

    3. Glad you’re here, Counselor.-)

    4. Suthenboy

Glad to see you here RC.

  16. R C Dean

I’m slow today. How do I go about posting a, er, post?

    1. DOOMco

I think it is invite only. I’m not sure though, but would be interested in adding some content in the future.

      1. Old Man With Candy

You can be added as a Contributor. I may start a new thread about that, just so Mrs. OMWC has one place to go to add the names to the roster.

        1. DOOMco

Good to know. There’s so many things we can all write about.

    2. Lord Humungus

I was thinking of writing something too – maybe a Yokel vs. Cosmo sort of thing, or an exploration of Derbyshire’s concept of “Libertarianism in One Country”.

But it would be work!!! /whines

Which I have plenty of right now in the job sense.

    3. Hihndication

I would love to see posts by you. The other place is really missing your sommentary. Its going to shit actually

  17. brien

What could go wrong? It’s not like it has been tried before.

    http://www.oregonlive.com/politics/index.ssf/2017/02/portlands_tina_kotek_explains.html

“Jurisdictions using rent stabilizations today talk about rate of return, exemptions under certain circumstances. They’re much more nuanced and sophisticated to make sure there’s not an adverse economic impact.”

  18. R C Dean

Mrs. Dean has been following the saga of Hugo, a puppy with “swimmer syndrome”, on Facebook. Here’s an article, but the really good stuff is on the Facebook page.

WARNING: may exceed recommended allowances of cute.

    1. Tundra

      Awww.

I like that there are people who take up challenges like this. Cute little bugger. Would adopt.

  19. Max Coins

So, Gilmore posted this on that other site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCxDrfs4GtM

(in case it doesn’t embed with the thumbnail, it’s a 30 year old clip of Ron Paul on the Morton Downey Jr. show)

I used to love that show, mostly because it’s fun to watch people yell at one another. I think that’s why I keep coming back to the comments. To that end, we should start importing trolls, maybe 1 per 100 (not including socks). Any nominations?

    1. DEG

I love that clip. I think if Ron Paul acted like that during his presidential campaign his campaign would have done much, much better.

      1. DOOMco

He had a few moments that seemed like it.

  20. DEG

I am in! Thanks to OMWC’s wife. Somehow the registration e-mail disappeared and never arrived.

Time to class up the place with a cockatar.

    1. Tundra

      Very nice, Foghorn!

  21. DEG

Did P Brooks just take over? Comments aren’t threaded anymore.

  22. DOOMco

    The unthredening!

  23. DEG

    Very nice, Foghorn!

Yours looks like the Yeti from this old claymation Christmas special… shit, I can’t remember the name.

  24. Lord Humungus

whoah – what happened to the threading?

  25. Tundra

“Yours looks like the Yeti from this old claymation Christmas special… shit, I can’t remember the name.”

Come on, man! It was a classic!

Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer. The Yeti was known as the Bumble. He had some dental issues solved by the renegade elf Hermey. The Bumble dropped the gloves with the badass prospector Yukon Cornelious, they both fell off a cliff, but ended up pals. Rudolph got himself a little hottie and everyone lived happily ever after.

  26. I just hopped on to check the AM links (nice work, sloopy), and the comments being non threaded made me very confused.

I’m wondering if it is a consequence of the WordPress limited number of comments per page? At least, that’s how it’s showing to me; there’s a “newer comments” link at the bottom of the first page.

  27. Playa Manhattan

    Chipotle sucks.

Let’s see if that makes it past moderation.

  28. DOOMco

Non thread does make sense, with reply the conversations and up jammed so far to the right it’s impossible to read.
Now we need to learn how to quote. That’ll keep our comments on topic?

  29. Max Coins

For a site called Gilbertarians, there aren’t a lot of decent AFLAC duck articles. Jus’ sayin.

    Drink!

  30. DEG

“Come on, man! It was a classic!”

    Goddammit… I am getting old.

The names came back to me. I remember watching it many times when I was a kid.

  31. Dry_Gin_Wet_Farts

That old Morton Downey clip with Ron Paul reminded me of the first time I heard of him. 60 Minutes, I think it was, did a story on him around that same time, called “Dr. NO”, and portrayed him as a goofball who somehow manged to get elected to Congress. Some things never change.
