Good morning, Glibs. I have assembled a few links for your scorn and defiance; slight regard, contempt, and any thing that may not misbecome the mighty sender.
- OMG, Teh Werld is ending…so lets read about just that.
- WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!!
- I confess I can not look away from further developments involving train wrecks.
- Erdogan goes Godwin!
And here is a picture of rugby, because I can.

No try for you!
Paranoia will destroy ya

Sigh…first comment and I have to do this already?
*narrows gaze*
That was a wake-up and stretch gaze…you’ll need it several times today, I’ll bet
“Anybody pointing a gun, whether it be real or fake, is not really being reasonable in this day and age,” Foley said.
Do you include yourself in “anybody?” No? Then go fuck yourself.
Also, First (and only)
“Anybody pointing a gun, whether it be real or fake is not really being reasonable in this day and age”
Unless, you know, maybe you’re defending yourself or someone else from harm?
I guess that means the Glenview PD won’t touch their sidearms then?
ZARDOZ SPEAKS TO YOU, HIS CHOSEN ONES.
FOOLISH BRUTAL FOLEY – THE GUN IS GOOD!
Paranoia keeps you on your toes.
And it goes like this.
This was the related story to that link.
Sounds like a big hit in the making.
There are some very good video games that aren’t necessarily dank 420 MLG noscope teenage-boy fantasy fulfillment. (And there are some very good games that are!) It can be fun to be forced to use your soft skills as opposed to being able to punch or shoot your way out of Gordian knots. What these types of games require are an engaging narrative, nuanced moral/ethical dilemmas, and most importantly, a developer who can resist the urge to be ham-fisted with a particular message.
On a whim, I recently purchased One Night Stand. The game revolves around you waking up in a strange woman’s bed after night of debauchery. To my delight the game wasn’t what I had feared: a SJW twist narrative where the “woman” is a transgender or something and the game tells you that you are a horrible, horrible unperson if you select dialog choices like:
Instead, the game presents you with a slice of life that invoked bittersweet reminiscence of certain short-term relationships (Jasmine in Singapore, I’m looking at you.) in which your choices can present several endings where the player is directed to reflect on how they could have done things differently. Most players identify a certain ending as the “best” ending, but the game never makes any judgement itself. If you decide to just pick up your boxers and walk out the door, that’s a legit ending in the game’s eyes as well.
Slink out in the night, it’s what Dennis would do.
Whoa…
“Several Languages….Knowledge of music… knowledge of literature… knowledge of… knowledge of… you’re an interesting man there’s no doubt about it.”
When I’m in your neck of the woods next year, I’ll tell you about Jasmine.
We get an HM visit?!?!?!? HURRAH!
Papo y yo – mentioned in the article – is pretty good. At least gamewise, it’s fun and pretty. I can’t comment on its wokeness as I didn’t get too far in before moving on to something else but I’ve heard good things.
With only hazy memories of what happened last night, explore a stranger’s bedroom in search of clues and try and piece together the truth. You may resort to some unusual methods to find your answers, but take care not to prod and pry too much though – a nosy guest quickly becomes an unwanted one!
I don’t need no stinking game for that. I gots my head full o’ memories. Back in university, I picked up this one girl at the local college bar. (FFW) The next morning, being the gentleman I am, I gave her a ride back to her dorm. Walked her to her dorm room and figured I could scrape her off there. Her room mate greeted us and then recognized me from the one nighter we had the previous Saturday. The odds on that?
I keep this cued up on my phone for just such occasions.
If you want to hear a dude’s revenge story on his cheating girlfriend, listen to this from 1:10:40 on. Steering away from the thread, but that absolutely killed me.
Link doesn’t work…but I am now watching lots of bill burr videos and laughing so thanks!
I am confused about why anyone would make such a game. Live it instead of pretending to. You are looking at Jasmine, I am looking at….uh…we dont really have time to go into that.
There’s more to the game than just that. Without getting too much into spoilers, for example, if you look on the nightstand, there is a clue that suggests she might have slipped you a micky. Now you’re faced with the choice of confronting her with that to see if its true and risk pissing her off and getting thrown out on your ass (that is if you care to make this more than just a 1 night stand) or even worse, or keeping quiet about it and perhaps continue down a dangerous road with a psycho-bitch.
As for your larger point, one might ask, why would anyone make/play Call of Duty. Just enlist! In both cases a game is a vicarious experience in which people can do things they may not necessarily do in the real world consequence-free.
In late 2004, at the FOB I was on, there was a CoD tournament in the Recreation
TentCenter. All the guys playing it were from an INF BN that had been down in Helmand Province and Ghazni Province, shooting it out with the Taliban 4 months earlier. To this day, I just smdh when I think of that…I strongly suspect this means something in English, but I can’t make it out through the haze of acronyms.
FOB = Forward Operating Base
CoD = Call of Duty
INF = Infantry
BN = Battalion
BUT I SUSPECT YOU KNEW MOST, IF NOT ALL OF THAT ALREADY!
In late 2004, Swiss was at a Freight on Board, and there was a Cease or Desist tournament in the Recreation tent-slash-center. All the guys playing Information Technology were from an International Nonetary Fund Barnes & Nobles that had been down in Helmand Profince and Ghazni Province, shooting it out with the Taliban 4 months earlier. To this day, Swiss just sucks marmalade donut holes when he thinks of it.
*drops coffee mug, falls out of chair…stands up and begins furious applause*
Ok, that was really good.
“I went to Englewood and was weak and empathetic…got robbed, raped, shot and stabbed. 400,000 points!”
Mmhm…
Making profit and proving employment to creative people is a positive social impact.
i get the feeling none of the Anna Sarkeesian types are going to attack the white dude for making a game about being a black teenager
Sooooooo……. apparently today’s parents never played cops and robbers, or cowboys and indians, or army or escape from stalag 13…..
Police Brutality against Communities of Color?
White Imperialist genocide against Indigenous Peoples?
Militaristism?
NAZIS!!!!!
ARGH!
*sound of head exploding*
Living in the desert it was playing “Rat Patrol” on bicycles and bb guns. It was great fun until the day I hit a den entrance while turning in a “fire fight” and ended up rolling through a bunch of cholla buds. I was intense pain from ankle to neck covered in those things while my friends pulled them out. The last spine finally was expelled from my calf almost 15 years later. I got heebee jeebees just typing about it.
But unsupervised play with your friends, HELL YEAH!
WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!!
Send em to a factory to earn their keep.
Season 5 of Samurai Jack premieres tonight on Adult Swim and that is the only news of consequence for today.
^THIS!!! All else is useless nattering.
Not with you guys on the street, I suppose.
The mean streets of Glenview require that these heroes to remain UNDISTRACTED.
As I wake up mid-slumber to take pills because my oral surgeon decided to give me antibiotics that have to be taken every 6 hours, I would just like to say to all of you: kiss my ass you rotten motherfuckers.
Also, if the first month of the Donald Trump presidency sparked your interest in dystopian fiction, you probably aren’t going to get much out of it. But then having the book seen on your shelf is the real purpose of buying it anyway, I suppose.
Uses “You’re” instead of your. Sounds exactly like someone who puts books on a shelf to impress people but never reads them.
Somehow I never see “The Mandibles” by Lionel Shriver on those lists. It seems dystopian societies which solve their problems by rolling back the state and increasing freedom aren’t an option. I highly recommend it.
Sounds exactly like someone who puts books on a shelf to impress people but never reads them.
Did you not notice the byline?
I found the only sensible article ever published at Slate. Seems they’re not entirely devoid of the ability to understand economic incentives when it comes to regulatory structure.
Don’t worry…. they’ll come back to their senses when it doesn’t involve something that they personally want – like more micro-brew pubs. As soon as we go back to talking about licensing hair braiding or taxi companies, they’ll go right back to form.
All is still well with the world. No need to worry about the nanny state… they’ll be just fine.
The best is when the state legislature here talks about new regulations on abortion clinics. It’s amazing how all the progs instantly understand that regulation can be used for political purposes to drive a company out of business, and that regulation by government is not rational or cost effective, but arbitrarily set by people who have no stake in the outcome. They sound downright libertarian.
Fuck Comcast… That is all.
Threading sqrlz got me
We set traps, but they just keep coming back.
I think they recently had an article about passive smoking and smoking bans being mostly bullshit. I don;t think the comments liked it but it wasn’t that bad.
http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2017/02/secondhand_smoke_isn_t_as_bad_as_we_thought.html
I remember reading that and thinking, “That’s the sort of article that should be posted on another site.”
Funny that we tend to think that way. There’s no intellectual challenge in preaching to a choir, but probably a lot more money to be made that way. The difficult thing is to tell them what they don’t want to hear in a way that they’re fine with hearing it.
Well it is kind of like seeing High Times writer posting a well written article with plenty of citations about Marijuana legalization in National Review. It is a good thing that NR is publishing something that doesn’t preach to the choir, but it does make you wonder why it wasn’t published in High Times instead, since that is more their beat.
Guess I’ll repost this here. Poor Shia.
Awesome. 4Chan is good for something, then.
“King of Zeroes ⑨ @KevinDahmer
Trump should just disband the CIA and replace them all with the kids from 4chan. Much better track record. #HeWillNotDivideUs”
Burn
My favorite CIA story is when the Carter administration ‘discovered’ that Russia still had missiles and personnel still in Cuba, and started to think they were getting into another Cuban Missile Crisis with the media hyping it up and everything. The CIA sats on their hands either having forgotten or just not bothering to tell them that Russia had been allowed to keep certain assets there by Kennedy.
Not MAGA Prime, I hope!
A collection of some moments.
That, that was….weirdly entertaining.
Agreed. Nonpolitical, just people fucking with Shia for being a pretentious prick.
Apparently insulting a country is not a good way to get them to allow you to travel there.
Who knew?
And then a comedian was arrested for insulting Erdogan…
What kind of moron would vote Yes to that? I mean, assuming a No vote didn’t mean camps or something.
It’s totally not an invasion. Just widows and orphans looking for their chance at the good life.
Turks invading the Netherlands…um wut?
Note to self: stay the hell away from Utah-.05 BAC is way too low.
http://fox13now.com/2017/03/08/utah-will-become-the-first-state-to-lower-the-dui-rate-to-05/?utm_source=fark&utm_medium=website&utm_content=link&ICID=ref_fark
Those city budgets won’t balance themselves, Stinky.
Utah, come for the nice traditional Mormon girls, stay because you’ve been thrown in the clink after having two beers at a restaurant.
.05? WTH? Is Yellin running that state?
its really not that much more egregious than .08
.08 is way low already. I owned a breathalyzer several years ago. It’s stupid easy to hit the .08 mark.
If be surprised if .05 wasn’t my natural bac.
“Ambient blood alcohol level”
Some of the alcohol in my system is just background noise, and should never count against my BAC!
I recently turned down a job making about 12k more because I would have had to move to bumfuck utah. At the time I was worried, but at this point I am fairly confident I made the right decision.
Probably old news, but Obamascare: 60% of online Obamacare defenders ‘paid to post’ hits on critics
Sharyl seems to be the only real reporter out there. Better bug her computer again.
Hillary’s campaign bragged that they had an army of twitter bots and paid and unpaid twitter followers set up and prepared to shape the media response to the debates. It received glowing coverage on NPR (for how forward-thinking and tech-savvy the campaign was).
They were surprised when the larger twitter-verse responded in a way contrary to their expectations…… and immediately started lobbing around charges that Trump’s followers were trying to game the system by tweeting in large numbers.
I thought it was a pretty revealing moment. They really expected to be able to completely control the narrative through their social-network bots and paid posters as well as their connections at facebook and google. It was no wonder that they immediately turned to these sources to lay the blame for “fake news”, since that is what they were intending them to be used for.
She reports well. I can’t get past her being an anti-vaxxer though.
The people at the Town Hall’s are paid hactivists, as well, but that doesn’t stop the GOP from being driven by fear of these great reprisals if they gut it.
The stupidity of the GOP never ceases to amaze me. The Left has always had a cadre of tax leaches they can mobilize to do ground pound politics. Republican voters voted for you to repeal Obamacare, and now they are back at work. They don’t invade town halls, they don’t do organized letter writing campaigns or social media blitzes. They have real jobs, not phony balony ones.
Every single one of those fucking idiots needs to have The Silent Majority tattooed on their fucking foreheads.
They’re not stupid, they’re responding to different incentives than the voters. Nothing bodes better for their reelection chances than being not. quite. conservative. enough. to satiate their base’s desires. That motivates the base to come out and vote for them in the next election to avoid the greater of two evils.
Politicians solely focused on retaining power aim to stay as moderate as possible without getting primaried.
So then, all of them.
The 2-link comment blackhole kinda sucks. I’m going back to bed. If my post ever gets out of moderation you’ll know why.
Already out.
Habitual sex offender, public masturbator gets life in prison for latest crime
How much of it will be spent in solitary?
Other prisoners demand it!
If he was your cell mate, you’d wake up every morning looking like Newt when Ripley finds her plastered to the wall.
*gags, turns green*
Have you considered offering SugarFree some of those…bon mots?
Big deal. The government made me live and sleep next to chronic masturbators in the military. Suck it up!
They put your cot beside a wall mirror, dude.
I masturbated in the shower like a respectable human being, buddy.
Duly noted, Colonel.
No hanging up a poncho liner to make erzatz “Jack Shack”?
I obviously used a…ahem…privacy curtain whenever possible.
“Goddamn it, Specialist – can you take your happy sock to the latrine and do that?!”
Stereotyping is bad and all but I can’t look at that mugshot and think that guy’s NOT a sex offender.
I was thinking roadie for a southern rock band, probably 38 special.
Doesn’t sound like he’s holding on loosely.
Well done, Penguin, well done.
I think you have a narrow gaze coming
Lol, BP. Yes, his white knuckle sobriety failed.
*narrows gaze*
Thank you
What are you talking about? I stereotype my Californians and East Coasters all the time. Never failed me yet.
So his prior convictions for raping and sodemizing underage girls weren’t so bad. But masterbating, that’s where we have to draw the line.
Ain’t the criminal justice system grand!
Not sure if this is a good defense argument …
It would be bound to come up eventually…the lawyer had to think of some way to spin it so it doesn’t sound so bad.
I ordered stuff on amazon in my sleep last night i think. Maybe my pocket.
I have one click ordering set up in Amazon and accidently bought something while browsing. Gave it as a Christmas gift. It was a potato ricer and was well received.
it was stuff hovering in my cart. Not the end of the world, but very hilarious waking up to that confirmation email.
Fuse box and lacrosse head will be here soon
“and was well received”
So long as that was a genuine response, it’s failing upwards.
I think I’d be pretty nervous as the unwrapped my bought in sleep gift.
The relief at the end though!!
As I mentioned in the yestereen links, Inow own every season of Psych, thanks to Amazon.com.
+1 pineapple
We get free delivery of restaurant food here with our Amazon Prime. Select restaurants but very nice. Woke up hungover last Saturday and wife had already had breakfast sandwiches delivered.
What is this magic? And does it exist in the Houston area?
Nevermind. It doesn’t go to my zip code yet.
Fuckers.
Magic? Other than the Amazon details, just sounds like JB’s wife had breakfast ready when he woke up.
Guess I’ll keep her for now.
About…. 10 years ago, on my birthday, i woke up and found a receipt for a $2500 video camera in my inbox.
drunk shopping can be dangerous. I kept the camera. it was good for a few years. took great stills (the reason for the expense was that it had legit / removable multi-optic lens)
They are all fuzzy images of the Loch Ness Monster.
Give me a minute. i wiped my drive a few months ago and stupidly lost huge piles of personal stuff. they’re all in the cloud now. the only example i have ready to hand is a tiny low-res copy i will see if i can find another. all the best pics were from a trip to Cabo, and another to Maine.
i’m looking for one i took from the back of the boat at sunrise, but this is the only one that i think is actually the OG resolution
Nice fish.
Something no camera can capture is how they change color right as you pull them out of the water. Some dorado turn neon yellow when they’re fighting, but turn that green shade after they’ve given up the ghost
Wahoo are similar. The coloration when you first take them from the water is amazing. Then they quickly dull after they die.
Nice catch. In Hawaii they are known as mahi mahi. Great eating when fresh.
We didn’t want to see your face, though. :-p
by “cloud” i mean, “somwhere in my email inbox when i mailed them to myself”.
as a footnote to this, i just want to say = people who put attachments in 100% of their outgoing email? (like a little icon photo of themselves, or corporate logos) are bad people and they should feel bad.
Email etiquette is really simple, and really uncommon.
That, and HTML email.
While we’re at it, let’s toss in the annoying habit of online stores taking your one order as an intent to sign up for their twice daily newsletter.
I don’t mind small attachments but I do get annoyed when someone sends a dozen people a large file when a link would do because you all share a networked drive. (I would say pissed but the guy is my boss. Despite what my sister and most of friends say, I’m not stupid)
I found a copy of what was my favorite photo w./ that camera –
the only reason i think it was saved was because i wanted to share it on H&R
I also think Imgur downgrades the resolution on things. its grainer than the original was.
Because Erdy just loves him some Jews.
Yeah, you beat me to it. How is comparing someone to Jew killers (or Armenian killers) an insult in Turkey?
Erdogan is a jackass on his way to being a dictator.
On his way? Nope. He’s already there.
Sultan, not dictator
So I accidentally double clicked post and it posted once and gave me a message about duplicate comment detected. This place seems to be more rodent proof than the other
It also tells people to slllooooowww doooowwwnnnn
But i drink PowerThirst!
Feature, not bug.
WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!!
That game sounds like a good bit of fun. The rules sound reasonable. I’d play. The school administrators and police can all fuck off.
“In 2017, dystopian fiction is all the rage.”
No, 2017 is when the writer discovered that dystopian fiction is all the rage. Does this guy not read or watch movies? This has been a pervalent trend in pop culture for at least the last decade if not longer. Of course, is always been popular. Maybe he’s just now noticing since he feels it is TEOTWAWKI.
something something, the walking dead has been hugely popular for years now.
I’m thinking that in gaming, it started with the Fallout series, but now every other game that comes out has a dystopian survival theme. I’m ok with that, but I wish the zombie crap would die off already. Dying Light is the best of those.
Wasteland.
I’ve never played that series. I think they’re working on 3 now. I guess Fallout was supposed to be the spiritual successor of Wasteland, but was released 9 years later in 1997. Interestingly enough, Wasteland 2, released in 2014 was made by the producers of the original Fallout series.
The original Fallout team also made Wasteland, but couldn’t make a Wasteland 2 because of copyright issues, so they made Fallout instead, then later also lost the rights to Fallout.
You might want to check out Wasteland 2 if you like the old school RPGs like Fallout. It is on sale over at gog this weekend, and comes with a copy of the original.
Who knows, maybe the public is finally ready to appreciate the Terminator and Matrix movies now, instead of overlooking them the way they did.
Much longer. We’re almost to the time that Soylent Green is set in, and there were a lot of other cynical, proto-dystopic movies in the 70s.
…much MUCH longer.
“1984” was written in 1949, and ‘Brave New World’ was written in 1931
MAGA!
Good ol Alex, always bringing the entertainment stories.
Just in case ya’ll miss the daily nutpunch, here it is:
AND.NOTHING.ELSE.HAPPENED
“The officer reasonably thought that he had a credit card knife or a cell phone gun in the wallet. Good shoot.” – A police officer spokesman, probably
I think we need to start shooting cops and when we get to court calmly state “He had a gun.”
In the vest, of course. Don’t want to hurt them.
not sure if serious in 3…2….1….
re: Pictures of rugby
i saw my first rugby tournament in a bar in Boston @ 7am with a fry-up breakfast bottomless Guiness
Jonah lomu dragged 4 people clinging to to his arms and legs at full sprint. it was pretty much the most impressive physical display i’d ever seen. Later, some guy named Janni-something kicked 3 dropkick fieldgoals from like nearly midfield. on the run. apparently that’s possible. the commenters were like, “He does that sometimes”
i was dating a girl named Pat who was a very jock-ish (she was a pro windsurfer) british girl who had a passion for Rugby. she would shake me awake at 6am and say, “ITS TIME TO WAKE UP AND START DRINKING”. good times.
I know you didn’t see the All Blacks play South Africa that day. Because Lomu never scored a try against the Springboks.
Not one.
If they were all Black, they probably weren’t even allowed into South Africa.
*Waits for cat-assing*
You will have to settle for a *narrows gaze*
Going back to rugby(ish) – anyone here a fan of Aussie rules? I remember when ESPN started in the early 80’s, they were desperate for programming, and they had it for a couple years. I had a sad when they took it off.
I think you can find it on FS2 or NBCSN or one of the other upstarts.
I don’t follow the sport, but it might be available on BeIN.
Very long information post here:
http://www.afana.com/drupal5/tvinfo
Bottom line: nothing confirmed as of two days ago. You can watch highlights and (I think) some matches on the AFL’s youtube channel. You can also buy a streaming subscription from the AFL for US$150 for the season or you can buy weekly or monthly passes. The subscription gives you access to all games live + (again, I’m pretty sure on this one) replays any time. I’ve not signed up because my team currently sucks.
Brisbane fan, eh?
Carlton FC
Ouch.
Not quite so bad then. When I watched it here, I was going for Melbourne, because I live(d) in the Orlando, FL area, and there’s a Melbourne nearby.
Also, thx everyone for the viewing info.
I LOVE AFL. Used to play it a bit in the Spring, when rugby season was winding down. Our Australian coach said “we’ll do this to keep interest in practice up”.
I had no favorite team until I saw a match where the Western Bulldogs were waaaaay down, and had a player get his head cut open – he kept wiping the blood away, like it was sweat…finally someone ran out and gave him a quick patch job…he led a fierce comeback and they won. I was charmed and sort of root for them now. Oh, and another guy almost had an ear torn off in the same match – and he played it so cool, at the end going over to shake hands with the guy that did it to him, and sharing a laugh.
“I was charmed and sort of root for them now.”
They won the premiership last year for the first time in 60+ years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mAJfJba3JHY
I do like how they are much more – gentlemanly, for lack of a better word – than soccer players.
Hope you got to see the last final. And either you or Rhywun will get bragging rights in a couple weeks.
*checks schedule* It only says MCG at 4am but I think that’s the one, yay
Raven,
Oh yes – an Australian veteran I am friends with on the Book of Faces is a huge fan…the stream of posts kept me up to date
Huge fan. It’s on Fox Sports – I get like five matches a week.
Go Collingwood!
There are two sister torrent sites, whose names I will not mention in these comments out of respect for our hosts, where one can obtain both Rugby and AFL matches.
Disclaimer : It is probably illegal for you to watch torrented AFL and Rugby, even though no one is trying to sell your market legitimate broadcasts of same.
LEAVE JONAH ALONE!
Gone too soon…
*pulls on All Blacks jersey and sheds a single manly tear*
Yeah, that was sad when he died so young. He was an absolutely incredible athlete.
I’d have loved to see him strap pads on and play football. I bet he’d have been fantastic.
I always wonder what NFL players would have been rugby beasts, if they could have been taught the game early on. Some of the running backs, safeties and such.
This guy.
Or this guy, sort of footballish in college.
Carlin Isles comes from American Arena Football and is a damn sight faster than anyone else in the Sevens game… amazing to watch.
Probably not. There were 2 games a day, and this was stretched over multiple weekends.
you’re right that the kicker guy was south african. what was his name?
If it was the 1995 World Cup Final, it was Joel Stransky I think.
Would have been later-1990s. but not much. like 1997-1999
“A girl named Pat…”
That’s a man, baby! ?
Guinness Breakfast + rugby is a staple in this hemisphere, due to things like the Tri-Nations and 6 Nations always being played so early (our time).
Tri-nations n.k.a. Rugby Championship
Mostly, yes.
*cue outraged shouting from English and French*
oh, of course.
Jennifer Wiener?
Don’t give her a clue. Let her and her like keep that shit up. I am looking forward to at least 4 more years of this.
What isnt the fault of trump? That list seems a lot shorter
Even for the NYT’s, that’s low. It’s like something I’d expect on a Gawker affiliated site.
It does read like salon.
That’s retarded as fuck.
“I found a tv show amusing and entertaining to the point that I live-tweeted it because I’m a narcissistic twit that thinks people hang in my every word. But now I’m going to pan it because I think it indirectly resulted in America doing something I think is morally wrong.”
Like I said: retarded as fuck.
most men don’t watch that show. What the fuck were we able to perceive as normal if we never saw it?
Now that you mention it…the world women experience is very different than the world men experience. The females are mistakenly attributing men’s behavior to causes that exist in their world but not in ours.
Fox News White House correspondent shows why even the establishment ‘conservative’ media outlets basically just act like useful idiots for the progress. He just had to signal his tolerance to his coworkers by warning them that a dastardly individual from Gateway Pundit was being allowed into the room. He hates black, Jews, and Hispanics, don’t you know.
It’s as if Decker doesn’t remember all the times Fox has been attacked for not being real news and people have called for their credentials and access to that room to be yanked. Meanwhile, Buzzfeed is allowed in with no complaints.
Gateway Pundit can be pretty retarded. That said, you’re right that they’re no worse than Buzzfeed*, which people seem to endlessly try and pretend is “real journalism”
(*are they owned by someone important?) I also agree with your point that they’re really just defending their own desperate “credentialism”, trying to imagine that they’re the ‘serious’ ones by spitting on their inferiors.
i mean, this = “”a pro-Donald Trump conservative blog known for at times posting false rumors””
…how exactly is that different from the Washington Post’s “Russians hacked the energy grid” nonsense?
they’re all just shades of shit and everyone knows it.
I’m diggin’ the subheading from this article at WSJ:
“Justice Department Asks Remaining 46 U.S. Attorneys Appointed by Obama to Resign”
“Attorney General Jeff Sessions asked all the U.S. attorneys appointed by former President Barack Obama who are still in their posts—including New York’s Preet Bharara—to submit resignations. The move appeared to backtrack on President Donald Trump’s earlier request that Mr. Bharara remain in his job. Mr. Bharara’s office is still seeking clarity on whether the decision applied to him.”
https://www.wsj.com/articles/justice-department-asks-remaining-46-u-s-attorneys-appointed-by-obama-to-resign-1489186325
That blurb is on the front page–rather than than in the article–but it strikes me as funny.
What part don’t you understand, Preet?
Yes. It applies to you, you fuckin’ asshat.
Pack your shit, and security will escort you out.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
For those who, like me, don’t remember Preet, here’s his IG page.
The excerpt that matters:
Freedom of Speech
On June 2, 2015, Preet Bharara issued a subpoena to the libertarian magazine Reason over six Internet comments made on the magazine’s website that were perceived as threats against S.D.N.Y. judge Katherine B. Forrest.[88] The comments were made in regard to Forrest’s controversial sentencing of Silk Road owner Ross William Ulbricht to life in prison without parole. Bharara’s subpoena ordered that Reason turn over the personal records of the users who wrote the comments and was followed on June 4 with a gag order on the magazine forbidding it from speaking publicly on the matter.[89] Bharara was criticized by Bloomberg View[90] and Wired[91] over whether the comments were actually serious threats. After the gag order on Reason was lifted on June 19, its editors Matt Welch and Nick Gillespie condemned the subpoena and gag order as, “suppressing the speech of journalistic outlets known to be critical of government overreach.”[89]
Personal feelings aside, I do wish he would at least be allowed to complete his mission of taking down Deblasio.
Its not like the files and evidence are going away….next one up can zorch him.
He very well may run against either him Cuomo.
Does this mean we’re allowed to start making woodchipper references again?
Bharara reacting to the news.
Incredibly underrated film.
Came out 22 years ago.
The new(er) Dredd with Karl Urban was pretty boss.
I loved it.
Meh. Karl Urban’s great.
But, I felt the version with him was very narrow, limited in geography (that one location housing tower), dramatic tone (soulless, humorless) and narrative focus. Plus, the overall design of the film was incredibly bland. All gray and drab tones. The color palette was so narrow as to be visually boring.
Plus, the Stallone version had a kick ass Alan Silvestri score.
Don’t you realize this is a huge scandal. Trump is destroying the ability of the federal government to prosecute criminal activity in the US. No prior President has ever done that before (all the other times were totally different). This will result in total anarchy. Big business will be able to get away with cheating and poisoning poor little citizens.
Well given that all these people think that Trump brings the apocalypse, I assume they are well prepared for anarchy. I mean whats the point of predicting disaster if you are not ready for it?
Did Pres. Obama fire all of the U.S. Attorneys? I know Pres. Clinton fired all of them, and I know Pres. Bush Jr. didn’t (but was utterly pounded in the legacy press for firing some of them).
Double standards are so much fun.
75 covers of The Master and Margarita ranked
that’s my favorite book. maybe tied w/ Alice in Wonderland.
Never red it but it’s on the list
not for everyone. its a book you sort of need to be in the mood for. not ‘hard’ (Blood Meridian is ‘hard’), but the whole “magical-realism in a historical context” thing can be off-putting. the chapters jump between Moscow in the 1930s(?) and Biblical-era Jerusalem. just ‘weird’. also, a lot of the jokes rely on some awareness of early 20th century soviet history. it would help if you actually read about early commie-russia first just to get the setting + context straight.
I saw the movie though …
I don’t know i think hard depends on the person. And the age maybe. I read The Glass Bead game in high-school and found it difficult to finish. I tried Finnegan’s wake and didn’t get past 50 pages …
there’s a MOVIE??
(looks it up and discovers that there’s actually multiple movies)
jesus. that can’t have gone well
I think i saw a russian miniseries
yes, and a lot to do with one’s mood at the time.
I read a bunch of faulkner novels in a flurry when i was like 20. loved them, and really just got into the way he used (and experimented with) language. Tried reading “Sound and the Fury” like 10 years later and it felt like abuse. Then jumped in a few years after that and fell in love again. I realized so much of what you’re willing to put up with is based on your own attitude. As i get older i find i’m less tolerant of literary self-indulgence and tend to prefer more ‘robust’, solid, plain-language. Tho it varies.
Just bought it. Thanks for the recommendation.
#2 is the copy i have somewhere.
it gave me a headache looking through all those. i was worried near the end it wasn’t going to be there.
Lol.

Dear Capitalism,
Yes, humans are competitive. But, we’re also cooperative.
Sincerely,
Socialism
Dear Socialism,
There are nonstop flights to Caracas. I’ll even pay.
Cooperatively yours,
Capitalism
I like that. I just want to yell about how one of those things is voluntary while the other involes a rape cage.
Capitalism is the one with the cage, right?
Well, yeah, we made and sold them!
Dear socialism,
Go fuck yourself instead of killing millions that didn’t want to “cooperate” the mandated way.
Freely yours,
Capitalism
Winner
Dear Socialism,
Yes, we should be free to cooperate. But, Socialism competes against humanity.
Truthfully,
Capitalism
P.s. ?
I really don’t get how these people don’t see buying and selling things as cooperation. Hey I have some stuff I don’t need do you wanna give me some stuff you don’t need for it?
I don’t think he has a good definition for Capitalism.
That makes me angry.
Socialism isn’t about cooperation, and Capitalism incorporates both competition and cooperation. Suppliers, transportation firms, etc. all go into the working of the free market–and it doesn’t need some bureau to be successful.
So far, I’ve typed 3 or 4 responses, but delete them before i post. It’s not helping. I’m not going on there any more, I’ve got a hokey game to go watch downtown.
Tundra has a really good response a few comments ago.
I wish I could think of snappy comebacks like that. The best I can do is, “Where did you get your economic training, the toilet store?”
Dear Socialism,
There’s a difference between cooperation and dominance.
The problem is you don’t understand the difference.
Or at least, useful idiots posting this on Facebook don’t.
Sincerely,
Reality
Exactly. Cooperation because someone is pointing a gun at you is rather different than cooperation because you’re collectively trying to improve your lot in life.
Cooperation at gunpoint isn’t.
Dear Socialism,
Yes, humans are cooperative. But, we’re also voluntary.
Sincerely,
Capitalism.
That’s a good one, too.

IRONY.
Give her a Pabst Blue Ribbon and a trucker hat.
I guess sometimes irony can be pretty ironic.
She doesn’t get what she just did. At all. You know that stupid and clueless look she always has on her face? That’s real.
Well in the sense that Botox is real, sure.
OH, for fuck’s sake. Would someone throw a bucket of water on that bitch already!
SXSW 2017: Reddit thinks it can break your echo chamber
Translation: Alexis Ohanian is woke as fuck and can’t believe that evil Republican Nazis inhabit a sub on his site, so he must use his company’s technology to spread his wokeness to those sheltered people so they can be led to the proggy promised land.
Fuck that guy.
You know what the greatest thing Donald Trump has done is? He’s indirectly made so many people throw their masks off and reveal that not only are they partisan hacks with massive insecurities, many of them have dropped all pretense of pretending to not be generally awful people. He’s like a battering ram to the Jungian persona, now we get to see their true natures, and it’s not pretty.
Five years ago people rolled their eyes at me when I said progressive news and media was just as biased as say, FOX News. Now they can’t even challenge me when I point out that CNN is garbage without coming off like idiots.
It might not be pretty but it is pretty useful.
I think it a tie between that and another great thing he’s done: he’s forced a lot of people into civics lessons they otherwise would have never had. More people are starting to understand how our government works and how it was designed to work. Hopefully the dissonance between those is enough to shake loose a lot of the apathy people have about just letting government grow and run roughshod over their liberties.
What is the electoral college and how does it work? What are the branches of government and how are they supposed to be set against one another? What is federalism, a republic, a democracy, and why don’t we have purity of any one of those things?
They’re looking at these things because they’re trying to find the stone to slay the Goliath that the media has made them perceive. Perhaps that’s why the “Russia” narrative is so important to the MSM now. It’s stupid as fuck and people can see that, but it also overwhelms everything. Distract people from learning those civics lessons so you can keep them compliant.
he’s forced a lot of people into civics lessons they otherwise would have never had. More people are starting to understand how our government works and how it was designed to work.
I’m skeptical. I haven’t encountered a single #neverTrumper who has become a Constitutional scholar because of this election. They’re all either doubling down on emoting or they’re resigning themselves to 4 years of protesting.
There are some you will absolutely never reach. The “never Trump” people are not focused on anything but staying atop the hills they’ve climbed, and they will die on those hills because they can’t adapt. They’re the quintessential examples of tilting at the windmills of a status quo that no longer exists. Nobody likes being made irrelevant.
Though I think you may not realize that #NeverTrump people are exclusively conservatives. I can’t tell by what you wrote whether you do.
But the screeching left who also cannot be reached serve a useful purpose. They force more moderate, reasonable people to recoil from them. And the hope there is that they can also break free of their apathy about their own ideas and seek to expand them.
None of this was the point of my comment though. The people out seeking every day a new weapon to try to topple Trump are getting educated in civics as a byproduct. It’s only when the same stupid bludgeon (Russia) is chosen constantly that they stop looking. I want them to keep trying to find more ways to get rid of him because of this. They’ll eventually learn why it has become futile. If we can convince them that the power itself is the problem, we have a shot at leading them to libertarian water.
The people out seeking every day a new weapon to try to topple Trump are getting educated in civics as a byproduct.
This is exactly what I’m skeptical of. If anything, they’re retreating into their respective echo chambers and circle jerking it to shrines of Mao and Reagan, respectively.
If we can convince them that the power itself is the problem, we have a shot at leading them to libertarian water.
I mean no disrespect, but it’s more likely for me to blast off to Mars using only a Taco Bell chalupa than leftist anti-Trumpers turning libertarian in any worthwhile number.
There is much more work to be done, no doubt.
Regardless, the echo chambers aren’t singular anymore. The fissures themselves are useful. The betrayed Berniebros need to be kept reminded how the establishment game-fixers threw them to the wolves. Proggies see themselves as distinct, and most importantly better, leftists. They’re the elites of their bubble, and elitism pisses lots of people off regardless of ideology. Routinely highlighting that there are still bona fide commies in their midst (along with their violent tactics) can scare more moderate people. Drive internecine conflict and you end up with the ideologically displaced, the shell-shocked refugees tired of it all looking for greener pastures.
For example, don’t tell them “Bernie never had a chance and you’re delusional”, even though that’s true. Tell them instead that he would have won, and were robbed of it by people on their own side.
I have at least one peer who has been convinced that :
#1) Gun nuts were onto something when they said that guns were the last bulwark against tyranny.
#2) The state is too damn powerful, if that power might fall into the hands of someone like Trump.
Now, admittedly, he is an autism-spectrum person who values the truth more than his personal mental comfort, and therefore probably an outlier. But he straight up now admits that he was wrong to view Leviathan as a family-owned SuperBestFriend.
This is a very astute observation, and wholly true. I may want to borrow this.
OT (because I am only catching up with last night’s threads now. Don’t you people work?) I offer a full-throated endorsement of (((SodaStream))). I am a dedicated tea and coffee man but wifey drinks seltzer almost exclusively and the (((SodaStream))) has been a delight. The CO2 bottles are sorta pricey ($14.99 in NYC) but we only get them at Bed Bath Beyond because they constantly send us $5 off coupons.
Thanks for the rec!
You’re most welcome. Depending upon one’s level of consumption, a proper, plumbed system (think soda-gun at the bar) might be more cost-effective; I have a couple big tanks from which I power my airbrushes and have been meaning to build a gun system for some time as we are approaching that point now that both kids have developed an insatiable thirst for seltzer.
In honor of KellyAnne’s “alternative facts” comment, Glibertarian’s will now be referred to as “Alternative Reasonoids.”
That is close to a cat butting…
We have our own thing here, and you will see how we keep growing in the coming days and weeks. The collapse of the other site may have given final impetus for actually getting this going, but it isn’t purely a reactionary move.
To be fair, that growth is largely a product of the exodus from the Other Site.
You’re America to Reason’s United Kingdom.
Only close? And don’t be so sensitive, as I only kid of course. As JT notes below, the reality is most of us came from Reason. Now in a few years, hopefully we have a large following and my joke would be met with confusion.
Errr, I mean as JT notes ABOVE.
That is why I said close…if you were serious, you would have seen CAT ASS!
We came here to escape the conflict and immorality of the Other Site, and now we find ourselves under the tyranny of CATBUTT.
The moderators are drunk on their own power.
The Cat-Ass of Damocles amounts to prior restraint. I think warnings to trolls are vital; threatening people who aren’t… isn’t.
The moderators are drunk
If you had ended the sentence there, it would be perfectly accurate.
I am not drunk…yet…today.
The Cat-Ass of Damocles
Is that when they put your face under a turd dangling from a cat ass?
Swiss, if you want to correct that this evening, there’s a bar in Long Grove where I’ll be sitting near the stage…
Would if I could, OMWC. Need to be home
Admit it, IT’S ANTISEMITISM!
Kill the Juice!
I have threatened….but never deployed. When Cuffy got assed, then nuked, I was not part of that fun
I have been catted. *despairs*?
You were? Where?!

Album or band?
Swedish death metal band.
Wife just looked over my shoulder.
“Did you tell them I love the name Glibertarians? Y’all should call the birth of the site “The Gliberation”.
I see three quarters of the hits are still from Canukistan. What’s that all about? I figured most of the hits here would be from commenters but that cant be the case. We have a large Canadian contingent but not a majority. Who are those Canadian lurkers?
That might be partly my fault: I secretly use Rufus’s wifi.
OOOh, send us the security code, plz!
Poutine
Oh, great, now everyone has it…Hey, Rufus, better upgrade your plan. We are going to be eating your bandwidth like crazy.
We are going to be eating your bandwidth like

Some speculation is that a lot of US VPN traffic goes through Canuckia, or something to that effect. Or we are acting as Radio Free Canada.
Your wife is very smart. I’d stick with her.
Dang! that was directed at Suthenboy. That’s what I get for not checking the site more promptly. Just don’t have as much time between work and prepping the house for sale.
I’d much rather hang out here while enjoying a few (of 6) pints.
Agreed. This site is more than just a “fuck you” to the other site. In a very short time, this site has become one of my favories on the net. Lots of great conversation and insight.
I see someone tried to break into the whitehouse. Hopped the fence, ran across the lawn and nearly made it into the house. They aren’t identifying the individual.
Huh. What’cha wanna bet it was Obama?
Shit, that’s funny.
Another dystopian novel of a completely different strain is “The Milagro Beanfield War” which is part of the John Nichols NM trilogy. Instead of a huge arc it deals with a local farmer deciding to grow pintos on his father’s field. Is Jose stealing water or was the water stolen originally from them by crooked crony capitalism? The book, like western water law, is unclear of who has superior water rights and were the subsequent rights secured IAW the law. Nichols has his favorites but it is not all “socialism yes!” and all sides can’t stand the Feds.
If you only want to invest under two hours in the story watch the movie. The devil and the old man interacting are hilarious. It is gloriously shot and any movie with Sonia Braga, Christopher Walken and Freddie Fender is worth 117 minutes. The soundtrack by David Grusin is great and I have owned in various formats since I first heard it in the 1980s.
