Brett is having his wallet molested by a mechanic, so you get links from me today. And none of them are NSFW except maybe this one and that one.

Tunnel at plutonium uranium extraction plant collapses in Hanford (TW:Autoplay video): The AP reports no workers were in the tunnel at the time of collapse. Workers at the site have now been evacuated. Workers farther away were told to remain indoors. Destry Henderson, deputy news manager for the Hanford Joint Information Center, told NBC News. “There are no reports of injuries, no reports of a radiological release.” Gojira hardest hit. North Korea best Korea. Glorious leader is never meeting replacement for putziness.

Actually handing out hat tips? Y’all are really separating yourselves from that other site.
It’s more than a hat tip. An Easter egg, if you will.
I’m just here for the women.
You’re doing it wrong!
Well, if somebody brought Thick Thursday back….
Haaaaay.
Hoooooooooooo!?
lol
The women in that bikini link are seriously silicone enhanced. It’s rather disturbing.
I opened that expecting to find a run of the mill hottie and instead had an ‘ughhhh that’s not right’ reaction.
Eh I wasn’t happy with the menfolk link either. It was a bit of whimsy at the last minute to include them and I googled “bikini selfies tumblr” and threw up the first result before hitting publish.
I’ll try harder, or more likely not at all, next time.
A few months back my dad commented when I got home from work that the muffler was sounding extremely loud, and he’d take the car in to have it replaced.
It turned out the catalytic convertor was shot. To the tune of seven hundred bucks. 😡
WTF? Cut that sucker off and never get that car inspected again. You can even get a couple of tickets for expired inspection and still come out ahead.
What’s inspection?
/California
/high five from Michigan. I’m shocked California doesn’t require one.
We have a smog check every 5 years, but it’s done privately, and they all take bribes. If you have a car that’s less than 20 years old, you’re gonna pass anyway (unless you’re rolling coal).
Tejas just voted to get rid of inspections, now goes to senate. This is the libertarian moment we’ve been waiting for.
Technically it’s not my car, since it was Mom’s and Dad was the legal heritor when Mom died.
So you made him pay?
Is your wife rubbing off on you?
Not as much as I’d like.
Dropped 5 grand on various parts of our Chevy Suburban a few months ago. It conveniently crapped out while we were in the middle of selling our house. Was close to selling it,but I didn’t want to give up the 6.0L V8.
Good news everyone! It was just a stuck caliper causing excessive brake wear on one side. My right front brake was basically wore out. I got out for the price of a regular brake job. Plus the oil change I took it in for. These Goodyear guys are okay. Not the cheapest, but they don’t try to screw me either. That’s all I want from a mechanic.
Getting rid of all that extra drag should boost your fuel economy.
It was floating down the road on the way home.
Prolly your carburetor.
/dealership
Hooray for the good news!
Out of curiosity, what make/model/year car is it?
2013 Ford Expedition. Rootbeer sparkles or poop brown depending on how dirty it is.
Dang. That’s a big vehicle. As an urban yuppie I am obligated to react to this discovery with disdain. Still, good news about the repair.
Prolly depends on the franchise. I went in to a Goodyear because I had a puncture (had Goodyears on at the time). Dude tells me I need $1400 of work done. A week after I’d had it to the dealer for service. Greasy fucker.
The service department at the dealership makes more money than the sales floor. There’s a reason for that.
Yeah. the reason is that there’s less competition for service than for purchases. My expertise is in tractors, but it was nothing for a person to go 300-400 miles to purchase a tractor. That same person wouldn’t go more than 25-30 for parts and service. You sell them the equipment in order for the machines to be in the area so you can sell them parts and service. Because of that, new tractors would sell for a margin that would be unacceptable in any business in the world (except maybe a high-volume grocer).
You’re telling me the cost of a tractor is reasonable? JD, Kubota, and New Holland all seem to have a fierce love of their equipment and don’t want to see them go off the lot. 30k for a 50hp tractor seems a bit high to me.
I bet it was just the muffler bearings. They’re cheap to replace. I’ll do it for $150.
If that’s all he’s charging you, it’s a scam. Stay away!
Cop sues Department after finding our he’s 18% African American
Is there anyone out there who can still take a joke?
Yeah, but what does he identify as?
Cactus
Litigious asshole
He’s part Jewish too?
I don’t care if your opinion on fast-casual Mexican food is loathsome, that’s good stuff right there.
Chipotle is ass-cancer
The gallon of hot sauce I use is ass cancer. The food itself is just fried ecoli.
mmmmmm colilicious
I seriously don’t comprehend the Chipotle hate. It’s perfectly servicable mexican food, and usually of significantly higher ingredient quality than “authentic” mexican food. It isn’t any more generic than “authentic” mexican food you get in a mexican restaurant either. If you live somewhere where there’s no “authentic” burritos, you can get something in the same quality range from Chipotle. The delta between Chipotle and “authentic” burritos is much lower than the delta between, say, good pizza and Little Ceasars.
Source : I live in California, supposedly home of the best “authentic” burritos.
Chipotle is flavorless cafeteria food for fatties.
Show us on the doll where Chipotle touched your mom, Playa.
The butthole, obviously. Same place it touched you and everyone else.
Does that mean he only has 82% of the privilege?
No, there are no problems in some of our police forces. Everyone just goes around quoting Roots. It’s an honest mistake.
I hate everyone in this story
Reflexively, I back this guy, because fuck the police.
(Just saying, it probably went further than a “joke”. Says something about ’em)
She said the stress has affected his health
That’s not the only thing affecting his/her health.
Are you kidding? When I was in the Marines, we spend most of our time finding unique ways to give each other shit. Showing them an Ancestory.com report would be like dousing yourself in gasoline and giving them matches to play with. Whatever it said, one of those prick bastards I still love would have found something to crucify me with.
I can see that, but police should behave more professionally, especially since they are interacting with a diverse civilian population. Nonetheless, the person suing is just as bad.
but police should behave more professionally
They don’t ever get to act like normal people and joke with their coworkers?
It’s just a joke that he didn’t find funny. But it is in fact funny, the Honoroable Judge FreeSociety would dismiss this case with prejudice with a recommendation that the claimant seek a qualified proctologist to treat his butthurt.
There’s problems but this isn’t it. A guy goes around saying he’s 18% black and people bust his balls about it being ridiculous. He turns around and tries to make a payday out of it. This really is ridiculous policing of normal human interaction.
OTH I like the idea that anyone can claim to be a minority now because It’s a big wrench in the system.
I’ve got hurt feelings, I’ve got hurt feelings…
“We can tell by looking at him that he’s 100% not black, no matter what genetics say! PS we’re not racists.”
Also, what in the fuck is that quote supposed to mean, except a misunderstand of what creates a protected class?
“Race” is a protected class. It doesn’t matter if he is being discriminated for having one drop of black blood or 100%. “Not designed” indeed.
You mean a coup, just like the one against Dilma Rouseff. (Funny how the one is called a “coup” and the other isn’t, even though of course neither one is.)
The Patriarchy is so pervasive, it creates a gender gap that almost the same in Mexico and the United States
this is why there are no mexican women libertarians
I thought it was ’cause they weren’t into ass sex.
I hear they could make up for some of that wage gap if they were
I would think that we should be more concerned with, say, the fact that Mexico is a complete shithole for no real good reasons than the horrors of ‘machismo’.
and its vice president won’t meet with a woman without his wife present
Fucking reading comprehension, how does it work?
I don’t doubt that Pence has a bit of a puritan streak… But in an age when false rape accusations are just a mode of attack for leftists, why is it so outlandish to avoid situations where you’re alone with a woman, possibly one who sees you as her adversary to be brought down at any cost?
The answer is that he’s a Republican. If he didn’t have this policy for himself, they’d find another way to paint him as an old-school patriarch misogynist.
They can bitch all they want, but at least he has a nice ‘out’ for any accusations of assault (not that that’ll stop them if they want to try it – Gloria Allred is on the case!).
“Given that the original and enduring leitmotif of the Trump presidency is Mexico-bashing,”
Is it? Or is it just a critique of our immigration policies relating to entrants from Mexico?
Well, he did also bash Mexico on trade, but he seems to be an equal-opportunity offender on that front.
So I saw the opening credits title sequence whatever of American Gods and I don’t know if I like it or not.
When it starts I definitely dislike it, seems too complicate, too crowded lets say. But over all it builds up well. If I see any individual bit I don’t like it but taken as a whole is not that bad. But is it good? I dunno…
I keep meaning to reread the novel before I start the show.
I wonder how the show will handle the utterly anticlimactic ending of the book.
I read that book (twice) many years ago. I did not realize until I read your comment that I don’t remember how it ends. It must be pretty damn anti-climactic.
They’re all just Anansi stories anyways.
I vaguely remember the ending, but then I don’t remember a ton from the bulk of the novel. I read it shortly after it came out. Something about the two man con getting turned around on Mr. Wednesday. Then Shadow goes off to Greenland or something, no?
The last thing I remember is a kobold eating kids. I have no idea how that plays into the greater plot.
Wasn’t he hanging out with the original Odin or Thor at the end?
ixnay on the igbay evealray, rakeDay!
But yeah. That was what I was coyly referencing. He meets up with a less American variant of Odin.
No in the End Wednesday gets exactly what he wants/needs which is a huge battle of the gods with Loki casting the spear making all their deaths in his name (thereby giving him more power) and Shadow survives his ordeal on the Tree through some shenanigans (don’t remember how off the top of my head) and then Wednesday just disappears from Shadows life because he doesn’t need Shadow any longer. So Shadow goes off to repay his debt to Chernabog but since it is after the Equinox the Belobog persona has come to dominate and he lets Shadow live then Shadow hunts down another aspect of Odin in Iceland to get some information and tell him something but I don’t remember what.
The Book is excellent. Especially in the way it develops it’s mythology. Through 2 episodes however the show is a total disappointment
Me too – there’s a ten-year anniversary edition I was going to reread but have not gotten to it yet. I can’t remember too many details – just that Gaiman is an amazing writer.
Your Tuesday Afternoon Nut Punch
Correctional officers spend 30 minutes beating man to death, all on video. An “independent agency” (sheriff’s office one county over) investigated. You can guess how that went.
Sometimes I wonder if it wouldn’t be better if they could use tranquilizers in a case like that. Dude was mentally ill and uncontrollable.
But then I think, no, that’s exactly what they would do in the Soviet Union.
Justin Raimondo Rage Watch
https://twitter.com/JustinRaimondo/status/857432543288635392
^ Just insulting Nick Gillespie for some reason. Rage Level: AIN’T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT
Raimondo went insane in the other direction after the election. Like… Trump Derangement Syndrome Syndrome?
Gillespie deserves this response, his statement is leading and extremely scummy. It reads like a progressive talking about how libertarians are secretly racists.
I hadn’t read the tweet before posting that. My point about Raimondo still stands, but you’re right.
And it’s a totally lame “observation” at that. I’d like for Nick to identify any single ideology in human history that didn’t have its share of anti-semites at the fringes.
Zionism?
I don’t think the Mayans were anti-Semites, either.
Hannah Arendt? ;^)
Nope, self-hating Jews end up filling that role.
Yes and it is hilarious. The only people that he seems to like is a bizarre mixture of honest left-wingers, like Michael Tracey and Glenn Greenwald; Trumpists, like Ann Coulter; and Pat Buchanan, of course, who he has a long personal connection with.
for some reason
Gillespie just implied that Ron Paul supporters and libertarianism was a hotbed for anti-Semitism, and this must have something to do with Donald Trump. What a hack.
Gillespie is worse than ball sweat, no doubt
But (except for the Trump part) how is that different than what they’ve been doing since they blew up the newsletter story during the 2012 primary? I mean, he (Gillespie) is what we know he is.
Correction, he is what the Kochs want him to be.
No offense to the Kochs who support some fine work, but it is well known that they and the Mises Institute (which Ron Paul is more associated with) have had a long running feud ever since Rothbard left the Cato Institute
It’s becoming a consistent pattern that Gillespie and co. are trying to smear libertarians who don’t kowtow to their particular brand of idiocy as being some brand of anti-Semite, white nationalist or fascist. From ENB joyfully declaring that libertarianism cleaned itself of the wrongthinkers due to the election and calling Lauren Southern ‘alt-right’ to stuff like this, there’s a trend emerging that is really, really scummy.
It is scummy. And all they are doing is shrinking their ranks. They’ve been pushing their brand since the 1980’s and they still have accomplished less then the poorly funded Paul/Rothbard brand.
Also, his really shitty behaviour towards Walter Block, which Block understandably got pissed over, because Gillespie thought smearing him as a racist was cool.
I really don’t get the “Trump is causing anti-antisemitism” thing. I mean, has he ever said anything that could be construed as anti-Semitic? For Pelor’s sake, his daughter is a Jewish convert! Of all the possible things you can attack Trump for, and this is the angle they go with? I genuinely don’t get it. Is it simplistic “Trump is modern Hitler, Hitler hated Jews, therefore Trump hates Jews?” Or maybe intersectionality gone mad(der), where if you’re bigoted in one area you must be bigoted against every single protected group? Seriously, can someone explain this to me?
It’s the same fucked up thinking that says he’s anti-gay. He’s the most pro-gay president we’ve ever had, policy-wise. He may be many things, and many of those things are not good, but he sure is not anti-Semite or anti-gay.
It makes as much sense as Trump being anti-LGBTQ. Just stick with the fact that he’s bigoted against Muslims and Mexicans. Harder to dispute that
It’s part of the “TRUMP IS FAR RIGHT” (read: Democratic trade and immigration policy from the 80s) framework, they’re incapable of seeing him outside of that dynamic. Admittedly the alt-right itself has its rampant anti-Semitism, but the beliefs of a couple hundred people on the internet who support him (and really only as ‘a step in the right direction’) don’t define the candidate.
He tweets retarded shit on a regular basis. I used to think he wasn’t just a hack with different angle.
Nick is not welcomed here!
His jacket on the other hand…it better be real leather though.
Yes, Justin, embrace the RAGE

^ That’s ENB’s fiance, I believe. Rage Level: SCREW YOU, COSMO
ha, I wish I could like a tweet more than once.
If I ever run into Raimondo in real life I’m buying him a drink.
If he’s insulting Fonzie, um… Gillespie, he can’t be all bad.
I like Raimondo. I just don’t agree with him on a lot of things. He’s the most consistent anti-war activist in the country, though. Which I appreciate
If i am being forced to choose between Raimondo and Gillespie, I choose neither
Maybe we should just start calling him Baron Raimondo?
Not sure if any of you ever played Sid Meyers Pirates of the Carribean (video game, it’s initial incarnations were released in the late 80’s for Apple 2’s and early DOS computers, but it was updated as recently as an Xbox 360 release), the main story line of which is rescuing your family from and extracting revenge on the evil Baron Raimondo
How did that asshole keep kidnapping my family members over and over again? And what’s his fucking beef with me? I’m the captain of a Dutch sloop for christ’s sake.
There’s some other dude that torments an Italian plumber.
Technically he kidnapped them all before the game started and his beef was with your whole family you just managed to escape when he attacked, signed on with a pirate crew who rebelled against their Captain and named you the new Captain. That is how your pirating career started off. It just looks like he kept kidnapping your family because you only get clues to where one family member is being held at a time.
And yes, that is one of my all time favorite video games.
The last time I saw a tweet of his it was some idiotic cocktail party social signaling about how the 90-day travel ban was explicitly racist in nature. No, we can’t even have it be just plain ol’ discrimination against Muslims. Gotta be racial. Explicitly racial.
Twitter delenda est. I honestly think the journalist Twitter circlejerk culture had a not-insignificant effect on the schlubs at Reason who get paid six figures to burn time on it all day in between occasionally pumping out Dalmia articles and measly-mouthed to-be-sure pieces. Peer group pressure is a real thing, folks. It always comes down to cocktail parties.
Oh, that’s been the problem: we haven’t done the War on Drugs hard enough. If we War on Drugs as hard as we can, then it can be won.
Kurds – I like the hand-quilted pillows as a machine-gun rest. Very classy.
If you have not read Shattered, get it it ya’ll. That Woman is just as tone deaf, pigheaded, and all around batshit crazy as you thought she was.
I mean the authors are clearly progs in good standing (first mention of Trump includes the casual assertion that white supremacists were a huge part of his campaign) and even they cannot put lipstick on the particular pig that is the Most Qualified Presidential Candidate Ever.
The authors wrote a biography of HRC a few years back (called, um, “HRC”). They’d been following Hillary for the election to write a book about her presumed victory. The book was going to be called “Shattered” if she won. They got a much, much better book out of the loss.
(disclaimer: I’ve known Amie Parnes since Kindergarten, so I’m a little biased towards her writing)
OH she was the one I heard on the radio. Seemed like a reasonable person for the most part.
I think if she one it was going to be “Shittered.”
The book was going to be called “Shattered” if she won.
Is this true? Because glass ceiling and all that puff? Please tell me that’s true.
It’s true.
The book’s been licensed by Sony TriStar for a miniseries, so you have that to look forward to as well.
If it portrays Clinton like Viking says, I can’t imagine they’ll go through with making that into a miniseries. I mean, it might be entertaining (real life Selina Meyer?), but I can’t imagine they’d touch that given the present state of affairs.
Grandma said not to air your dirty laundry for fear of what others may think of you.
Shortly after the election, there was a video clip floating around of some Clinton staffers backstage who were unceremoniously dumping huge piles of sliver confetti into a garbage bag. The plan was to fire the confetti cannons when Hillary’s victory was announced to symbolize the shattering of the glass ceiling.
I enjoyed watching it very much.
Finished it on Sunday and agree with the above, particularly the authors’ unbridled hatred of Trump.
I heard one of the authors (female, forget her name) on the radio last week in Philly and she flat-out admitted they were expecting to write about Hillary’s victory. She (author) came off pretty likeable. Bill was the only one who really pushed to go after the white working class.
One of the nice little things that illustrates exactly what kind of scum HRC is the location of campaign headquarters: they shared a building with Morgan Stanley and the US Attorneys for the Eastern District. If there’s another way to illustrate the incestous complex of big finance, big government, and big politics then that, I don’t know what it is.
Yeah, that was so tone-deaf that had it been in a book of fiction I would have rolled my eyes.
They were brutal to Robby Mook and Huma. Those two got raked over the coals in the book.
Maybe they were just trying to Occupy Wall Street….
The headquarters in San Francisco was shared with the local news station, KRON.
You seriously can’t make this shit up.
I smell an Official Glibertarians Book Review (TM) coming.
It’s kinda funny that progs dogpiled the pair when the book came out, as if they could deny Hillary lost and it was a crushing blow to her supporters. Stalinists, the lot of them.
Shocking new studies show that progs are as intolerant of people progs don’t like as conservatives are of people conservatives don’t like
“None of this, of course, explains why liberals’ open-mindedness doesn’t better protect them against prejudice….
“There’s an argument to be made that conservative intolerance does more harm than liberal intolerance, as it targets more vulnerable people. Consider the earlier list of groups maligned by liberals and conservatives. Rich people, Christians, men, whites and the police would generally seem to have more power today than immigrants, gays, blacks, poor people and goths….
“Conservatives, however, don’t view it that way….
“Regardless of who has the more toxic intolerance, the fact remains that people have trouble getting along. What to do?…”
Nice left slant to the comments. Here’s one I could add:
Conservatives (achoo – assholes! – achoo): why are these dumb morons just the same as liberals in any appreciable way?
“liberals’ open-mindedness”
I believe that law-talking guys refer to statements of this nature as ” assuming facts not in evidence.”
They lost me at “liberals”.
Progs can tolerate anything except the Outgroup.
That piece is one my favorite things on the internet, and everyone should read it.
If the proggy people around me were able to comprehend it and appply it to our social interactions, we’d both live much better lives. As it is, I am in the closet around all but my closest friends… ironic much?
Same here, this is one of my favorite. I keep it bookmarked, but honestly, who am I ever going to share it with? My peer group doesn’t read stuff like this; why would they when they can just listen and believe whatever John Oliver and Stephen Colbert say on a nightly basis?
None of this, of course, explains why liberals’ open-mindedness
We, of course, know that they’re not open-minded.
Someone should really remind the climate alarmists that they should be open to new experiences and don’t place a massive emphasis on
consensusconformity. The human impulse to hate the “other” is universal, and natural, and human. Progtards have just set up a fantasy where anyone who voted for Trump is actually evil in a real sense (despite the prog notion that all morality is relative…..), so by hating them they are in fact being good and virtuous.
Humans are tribalistic but I think this equivocation is overrated. The modern conservative attitude towards gays is more “i’m not interested in cheering” and towards blacks it’s still mostly to kiss their ass but in a kinder way with fewer checks.
Progs actually use institutions and government to punish people for being the wrong colors and genders in quotas. People afoul of progthink actually lose their livelihoods and face criminal charges, or just kangaroo courts. These are not equal.
It’s like the shit I hear about nationalism as being a marker for fascism. Damn near country is nationalist so that’s about as useful as indentifying serial killers as people with hands. Tribalism is a question of how much, and I only see once side violently so as a political platform.
It’s both hilarious and sad when progs complain about “institution discrimination” that exists largely in their heads and use that to promptly institutionalize their own discrimination.
I’m pretty sure there’s a term for that tactic, but I don’t know what it is.
One can tell how sincere progs are about “diversity” by examining the levels of “diversity” in areas where they predominate.
For example, how “diverse” is the world of theatre?
I’ve been waiting for this! The EPA website is undergoing an “update.”
MAGA!!!
FTFY
the NYT did not mention explicitly that every single one of the prior 4 presidents of South Korea were also eventually demonstrated to have been corrupt as well
the closest they got was, “South Koreans called for the ouster not only of Ms. Park, a conservative icon, but also of what they called jeokpae — the entrenched corruption and incompetence that people said have bedeviled successive governments.”
‘Bedeviled’. “Gosh darnit, where *does* this problem come from?!?” As though no one knows.
To their credit, they did have an editorial this past december about it.
jeokpae — the entrenched corruption and incompetence that people said have bedeviled successive governments.
Seems pretty explicit.
not really.
more explicit would be saying something like, “Every SK president since 1979 (or their family members) have faced charges”, or something factual like that, rather than a general allusion to a ‘problematic culture’
I wasn’t trying to make too sharp a point about that, its just that i think the NYT tends to paper over certain kinds of criticisms as “Some Say”, when they’re actually screamingly obvious
its much like the way they might cover corruption in Urban Democrat politics – they’ll say things like “there has long been a claimed culture of self-dealing” … while avoiding talking specifically about things like, say, Chicago.
Ah, I see what you’re saying. I just read NYT statements like that as understatement for emphasis and move on.
there’s a big difference between citing pertinent facts about historical corruption….
…versus describing it as something “people say” exists, as though the degree of corruption in SK is a matter of opinion.
And we’re talking about their news coverage, not editorials. That’s not even ‘shoddy journalism’; its purposely blurring reality.
Chris Cilizza @ CNN (i thought he was @ WaPo?) says, “Dear Liberals = Please Stop Being Retarded”
Lists 4 stories from the past week which had basically zero basis in fact which the left had driven itself into a froth over
He then states the obvious which everyone else had realized a long long long time ago
Frank Bruni, you will recall, made the whole “Crying Wolf” point about the left way back in the summer of 2016. would link but… you know. Look it up.
I also think there were a dozen ‘think pieces’ in the wake of the election where media people said, “Are we partly to blame?!”, mulled it over, and concluded = Nah!!
Its funny tho to see the media vacillate between pumping bullshit stories, and then chinstroking about a public constantly frothing over bullshit stories.
You mean this one?
Yep.
Maybe their new plan is to produce so many hysterical articles that eventually it causes some kind of cognitive overload in the general populace and reboots them to a point where they might actually give a fuck.
The backlash must be coming. I saw Chris Matthews (!) saying he was rooting for Trump to do a good job and that he didn’t believe the polling on Trump’s approval rating. I don’t know if Chris and Chris are watching their network numbers die and embracing a newfound love of the truth out of personal interest or whether they had more principle than I favored either with. I guess I’m inclined to believe the former.
I think its a little bit of both, really.
I think there are lots of people in the lefty-media who realize that this progressive-hysterical-demonization thing simply results in declining credibility
i think a lot of them are also tired of having to follow the Bullshit Outrage Du Jour story every day.
they may not *like* tucker carlson, for instance…. but they also think the people he interviews aren’t making ‘their team’ look good.
Yeah, I don’t think there is any question that their credibility is shit. I do think however that there is another phenomenon where when the media does their 24/7 blietzkreig on a person that people eventually get so tired of hearing about it that they start hating that person. Even if they don’t really give a shit. They just want to stop hearing about it, but for whatever reason they blame the person, rather than the media. That can happen with sport and entertainment figures.
They should have more rallies with Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer. I think that’s the ticket to win Ohio, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan again. Also, more ‘woke’ takes
I’ll start the countdown timer on Cilizza’s employment at CNN.
I’m still perplexed why Colbert’s and others like him ratings keep going up. Any thoughts as to why?
Idk, maybe because the new daily show guy is boring.
Post-Trump bump. Colbert, Oliver and Bee’s ratings went up pretty dramatically after the election. The recent controversy over Colbert’s insult actually boosted his ratings as well. They’ll probably coast off of that for the next year or so before everyone starts to lose interest again.
He’s the tallest midget right now? That’s my guess, anyway. A lot of the other proggy media personalities are losing their mind, and there’s a historic distrust in the Mainstream Media right now. Maybe people think they will roughly as accurate news from him as from other sources, and he (in theory anyway) will make them laugh too. A lot of the other entertainers like Amy Schumer and Samantha Bee are just awful right now, so for lefty tv comedy and news they are the least awful source right now,.
So I watch “The Red Pill” last night. It was good, I would recommend. Anyone else seen it?
I never heard of it. 8.9/10 on imdb.
I saw ithe mentioned on the popular anti-SJW YouTube channels like Sargon, Shoe, etc. Plus the creator, Cassie Jaye, appeared on The Rubin Report YT channel which I sometimes watch. But yeah, check it out. I heard you can find it on the sketcky free streaming websites like Fmovies, but I can’t confirm. I recommend purchasing or renting Theo support the creator, that’s the best way to encourage more quality content like that… in my opinion.
Ugh… my typos are awful when I’m on mobile. Need muh PC!
It was recommended to me by a coworker (who happens to lurk here). He’s going through a divorce now though so his misogyny levels are currently at critical mass. I need to know how much of a cishet shitlord you are before I can trust your rec.
Red pill comment threading fail. dammit.
You should watch it. It’s not about ‘women are evil ” — I wouldn’t appreciate it if that was so — but more, “I started an investigation into the MRA expecting to find a bunch of women haters, and instead I found some genuine problems that nobody’s talking about.”
I haven’t seen it, but maybe I’ll read Cathy Young’s review.
The woman who made the movie started out as a nice little feminist doing documentaries bashing abstinence education and promoting gay marriage, but I guess when she wandered away from the plantation they set the hounds on her.
And is there actually a men’s rights activist named Elam (“male” spelled backward)? Was that the name he was born with?
OK…so there is an asshole element in the MRA movement, big surprise.
Shoeonhead did a review of it, she approves.
This will probably get me into trouble, but sometimes… *glances over shoulder* … I will open doors for teh wimmenz.
BARACK Obama will reportedly pocket a staggering £2.5million (€3million) today for delivering a speech to a sold-out audience in Milan as part of his lucrative post-presidential speaking tour.
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/802063/Barack-Obama-speech-Global-Food-Innovation-Summit-Milan-private-speech-Wall-Street
That speech? You didn’t write that.
Did his food innovation speech happen to mention cake, and what people might do with it?
$3m for giving a talk?
I find it hard to believe that this shit isn’t just some form of payoff being made through back channels. I’d think in any sane society, people would be asking why people would pay so much simply for the privilege of hearing some guy pontificate when he used to do it every day for free, ad nauseum
Of course it is. Just as it was when the Clinton’s were collecting the payoffs.
Yeah, but the Clintons had something to offer, which was “access to future power”… assuming Hillary had won.
I’m not sure what they’re gladhanding with Obama over. What can he do for anyone?
He’s also continuing to do the rounds as though he still has some official office
‘political discussions’? He’s not running for anything, and he has no job with any political party. It just leaves open this question about who they’re working for or on behalf of *other than themselves*. There’s this pretense in the coverage as though these people are still “servants”. Instead they’re just landless royalty, kissing each others ass, and robbing the till while they still can.
I also think its remarkable that any other world leaders would be treating him like a political-Jack-Welch when he managed to preside over an era in which his own political party has fallen to decades-low-levels of support across the country
These idiot Roperites, like Obama, keep on cutting down all the trees and will soon wonder why the wind is whistling through.
The eventual result from ex-politicians continuing to meddle after they’ve left office isn’t for the current officeholders to throw up arms and go “oh well”, it’s once power has been wrested away, line the exes up in a ditch, along with their supporters family and retainers, and put a bullet in the back of their heads. Then they only have to worry about zombie ex-officeholders.
Three words….
President Michelle Obama
I don’t know if she wants the job but as unpopular as she is to the right she is significantly MORE popular than pretty much anyone the Republicans could throw at her and she hasn’t got a 25 year long record of failure and corruption to cover up so she can add *Team Black* and *Team Vagina* to the popularity and guaranteed fawning media support.
If she runs it is about as close to a slam dunk that she would win as you can get.
She’s going to run. I would bet big money on it. Idk when – maybe she’ll go the Hillary route of running for Congress first – but she’s entering politics directly, no question.
MANDATORY TURNIPS FOR EVERYONE!
‘no question’?
where, other than in your own fevered imagination, do you see evidence of this?
The Democrats are trying very adamantly to push her into it. I think she’ll give.
The ‘no question’ is obviously rhetorical. I obviously don’t know.
If she did that, she falls into the Hillary trap of then being an actual candidate with an actual record.
Far more likely IMO is that 2020 has Michelle running against Trump in a Ma Daniels/Lurleen Wallace kind of way.
Michelle 20/20: Let the Wookie win!
yeah, i don’t even remotely buy that idea.
first off, she’s never going to run, so debating the hypothetical prospects is sort of dumb
but even as a hypothetical, it doesn’t work.
Why do you think that?
Because she already reaps have all the benefits of power without having to do shit.
why would she want to spend years more of her life to gain shit she already has? There’s no upside, and she has no talent or desire for it. Women doing get much of a charge out of power the way men do, and power-hungry crazies like Hillary are by far the exception.
jesus my speed-typing typos have reached new heights.
– she already reaps all the benefits of power without having to do shit.
(money for nothing, treated like royalty, an army of sycophants etc)
– Women don’t get much of a charge out of power the way men do
(e.g. she has never expressed any partisan passions, or any specific policy interests at all; she’s never ever been in a position where she’s even said anything controversial she’d have to defend; basically, she’s entirely non-political by choice even when she’s had opportunity to dip her toes in. and even if she did demonstrate some political interests, she’s never demonstrated any particular talents in ‘bullshit slinging’/high-oratory, or in the sort of horse-trading backroom dealing that is necessary to accomplish anything. simply because she ticks off a few boxes for superficial characteristics doesn’t even come close to making her a viable candidate)
But here is the thing, she doesn’t have to run for them to be able to peddle future influence with her, just hold out the possibility of her running and the Obama’s remain politically powerful because if she did run her victory would be very close to a sure thing. So a few hints, wink wink nudge nudge I’m not saying anything but Michelle thinks it would be a good idea for you keep Barry close to you if you know what I mean, and companies will be lining up to give him outrageous speaking fees in the hopes that it will get them in with the next President.
Sure they couldn’t pull that off forever, but the next 2 – 3 election cycles, absolutely they can.
I was thinking today about Michelle Obama, and how she stopped working once she became a political spouse.
She is supposed to be some sort of feminist icon, and some sort of inspirational figure for black women because of her educational and professional accomplishments. But once her man hopped on board the gravy train, she said “nuts to all that!” and decided to live a life of luxury. I’m confident, given her boost in status and wealth, that she will never work a normal human being job again, no, being on corporate and non-profit boards does not count.
What got me thinking about it today was the realization that I had never heard anyone talk about why First Ladies don’t work, even when those very same First Ladies are all about the wimmins working. Not working would not be appropriate for the spouse of a servant, but it is exactly the way things work for the spouses of royalty.
exactly.
3 millions Euros comes out to 3262349.93 per today’s markets. For that kind of money I would expect he had a hit single. But yes, this stinks of a payoff.
I don’t know, man. One of the Jenner Sisters got a quarter mil for a single Instagram post promoting the Fyre Festival.
People are stupid.
Hey Barack, hows that fight against income inequality going?
I don’t think there’s even Obama Foundation yet. Before long Malia and Sasha will be renting influence and selling secrets to foreign despots and globalist banksters.
I look young for my age but holy Jesus, John Stamos.
Yes, he is quite fetching
Don’t make it gay.
If you close your eyes, it feels like a woman.
I’m comfortable enough with my own masculinity to admit that dude is a looker who is aging well.
Right there is a profession that can easily swindle ignorant people out of their money. Say what you will about lawyers and OSHA inspectors, with very few exceptions I have been fucked by pretty much every mechanic I’ve ever used. And I don’t like to get fucked by anybody except Mrs Society.
I’ve known some honest mechanics. Think they’re all retired now. Had to take my daughter used car shopping Saturday. Talk about your vultures. Christ. How hard is it too be honest.
Last time I went to a car dealership, the wife and I looked around and test drove a car. Told the Vulture that we needed to think about it before dropping 20k on a vehicle and that we would get back with him. He then tells the Chief Vulture this, who followed us out of the building asking me why were weren’t buying a car, asking what they did wrong and then finally started yelling at me in front of the whole flock of vultures and their other victims, for wasting his employee’s time. All because I didn’t buy a car on the spot. At that moment I told him that I’d made up my mind about whether or not to buy.
Wow. I’ve never heard of that happening before. That sounds like the death-throes of that particular dealership, or it would be in a small town, anyway.
We can be honest. We’ll just add the honesty fee to the price
/car salesman
I think we did ok except for the Warranty. I haven’t bought a used car in a long time so I wasn’t thinking about it before hand but she wanted the piece of mind and she was paying for it. Next time I’ll tell her to go third party if she wants it. If course when I originally balked at the warrenty price, they “upgraded” the agreement at no additional cost but was still to much. They were just trying to jack the payment up. Shady. They would have jacked her on the interest rate if she hasn’t been pre-approved. If course they tell her the rate not the APR so there’s that “loan fee” thrown on but after 5 1/2 hours your like we’ll that’s only $3 in the payment so screw it, get me out of here. She did a hell of a lot better with me there at least.
Part of the grift of the used car business is acting as the lender.
It’s always better to separate the loan from the car purchase.
Absolutely agree.
Took the GF car shopping Saturday and scooped up a great deal, ending a week long shitshow of drama between me on the one side and her family on the other.
“No, you do not need to borrow 20 grand to have a reliable car.”
“Wait, they’re telling you to buy a new car so you you can reap the equity?”
“No, it doesn’t make any sense to lease a brand new car.”
It actually IS hard to be honest in that business (I owned a construction equipment dealership). Since almost everyone is dishonest, the customers assume you’re dishonest too. Therefore, they spend the entire transaction doing their best to fuck you. Being a cheat is almost a survival mechanism (I stayed mostly honest, but with a few people… well, see no evil, speak no evil).
this is what happens when the market relies on huge amounts of information asymmetry
the solution is to learn more about how your car works, of course, so that when things go wrong, you know what you want from your mechanic.
i’m not pointing fingers at you here, but just saying this is pretty much everyone’s problem….
Meh, because of the information asymmetry, sometimes people are convinced they got fucked when they actually didn’t. “My mechanic said some words, and then said it was going to cost $1,100! Why do words cost so much?!!”
Muffler bearings are expensive.
Definitely.
I have some vague recollection of a H&R thread where the double-edged sword of information-asymmetry was much discussed
i recall clarifying to someone that i generally sympathize with the mechanics in these cases, since they catch so much shit from their ignorant and suspicious customers; also, that the ‘over-diagnosis’ of customer problems is partly by necessity. etc. etc. etc.
my mom was the worst of them. she was the classic “its making a funny noise” customer.
the solution is to learn more about how your car works
And your furnace and your AC and your plumbing, electric, roofing, computers, televisions, refrigerator, range, etc, so forth, and on and on. Sometimes it’s just easier to get two, three estimates and then trust someone.
Many manufacturers have an end-around in that only certified repair shops can buy the Five Buck switch that sets your 250 pound washing machine from ship’s anchor back to worthy appliance.
Another good end-around is that the switch has something oddball about it so that it takes a specialty tool to remove/install it (and they’ll only sell that tool to certified shops).
I think this is what the old-timers mean when they wistfully recall “The Good Old Days”. Heck, I’m not ancient and even fifteen years ago (aside from precision machining) I could take apart and rebuild most vehicles and I am certainly not a certified mechanic by any stretch.
I’m not saying there aren’t many ways to get fucked, I’m saying that while you could learn about the internal combustion engine so your friendly neigborhood grease monkey can’t screw you, you would then also need to learn about Ohm’s law, BTUs, gravity, and whatnot to protect yourself from electricians ,HVAC guys, plumbers, and whonot (whomnot?) . Far easier to master your own trade and then as I said get some quotes and trust someone, it’s simple comparative advantage, or economies of scale, or division of labor or sommat.
Oh absolutely, I didn’t take the invention of youtube lightly. A trip to the mechanic is an exercise in maetaphorical buttrape that I avoid whenever possible. I change my own oil, I can change out belts, replace an alternator, fix headlights, fuses et cetera. I learned all of that not because I was interested, I just don’t like the butt rape.
See minute two. I actually did watch this before I agreed to a pretty steep labor bill with the guys I’m liking. I was like, okay, Fuck Ford for making the A/C Condenser inaccessible in a giant truck engine compartment. You have to pull all the front fender shit out, take out the cooling fans, and a whole bunch of other shit.
It’s possible they do this every year to panic people into donations, but apparently EverydayFeminism is in desperate need of funds. They may have to shut down before the end of may.
LOLOL
In other news, Danny DeVito has a child.
Fake News! I was gonna quip that I hope it’s at least a boy.
James Comey just got fired.
Well… bye.
It’s already funny to see progs bash Trump for this.
Too bad it wasn’t after he arrested one of the presidential candidates for mishandling classified documents, lying to investigators, conspiracy, and bribery.
Now the left is going to have another scalp. The accusations about Hillary and friends aren’t true. Comey got fired for lying about it. Blah blah blah.
That’s the problem when you are a crow sitting on the fence – eventually the farmer is going to flip the switch. So long, buddy.
So long as the crow isn’t also touching the ground, he’ll be fine.
Comey the crow touched the ground last summer, did he not? (Metaphorically speaking).
He’ll be touching my BOOM STICK
That article paints mistrust over his “disclosing what Hillary did” (wasn’t concrete the one that asked him?). They act as though disclosure is tge source of mistrust as opposed to the actual reason of letting her get away with crimes nobody else would get away with with mealy mouthed excuses and reading intent into o a law that specifically doesn’t require it.
Take That, Jimmy Fallon
He won’t inform his viewers that Trump is Hitler? What an asshole!
Emphasis mine. And why are Jeopardy champions such fucking assholes?
And we all appreciated the way you went to work on Obama, Dave. Hard-hitting stuff.
Oh, I’m so sure. The tone of this piece clearly suggests that the author would TOTALLY FREAK THE FUCK OUT if such a late-night comedian existed.
On the plus side, braying comedy-walrus James Corden wasn’t mentioned at all.
These people really seem to believe that if 90% of the people they know voted Clinton than 90% of the country must. Their delusions are inconsolable.
“The interview didn’t go over well, at least with those of us who publicly broadcast their opinions about late-night television”
Well, there’s the problem right there. The guy doesn’t know that he’s a loser.
That last bit was a lefty writer’s “to be sure”. As if he’d like to see someone approach late-nite comedy from the dark side. Whatta Soave.
Same reason Nye and Degrasse-Tyson are assholes. They played smart guys on TV, so lots of people believe they’re extra super duper smart, and they’re extremely hubristic, so they believe it themselves.
Poor Jimmy. I hate his show and how he interviews his guests (*cringe*), but he seems likable, which is more than I can say for… just about every single other celebrity in existence.
Later days, homie.
http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/seattle-mayor-ed-murray-drops-bid-for-second-term/
Seattle Mayor Ed Murray won’t seek second term: ‘It tears me to pieces to step away’
Murray’s decision comes a month after he was sued for alleged child sexual abuse dating to the 1980s and less than a week before the official candidate-filing period begins. The mayor maintains he is innocent and the victim of smears.
“It tears me to pieces to step away,” Murray said in an emotional, sentimental speech at the Alki Beach Bathhouse in the West Seattle neighborhood where he spent part of his youth. “But I believe it is in the best interest of this city that I love.”
Murray went on to say he will particularly miss the close contact and mentorship opportunities he had amongst the city’s children.
Reaching around the stiff bureaucracy that remains erect within city government, he provided healing balms to the vulnerable youth of Seattle.
He was sure happy to fuck over all Seattle residents.
So will the commie step up and grab for the mayoral ring?
There are MULTIPLE real, card-carrying commies running for mayor, and they have an actual shot at winning. Because we haven’t progged hard enough.
“Murray looks forward to getting out of the spotlight and having a chance to mentor young men again.”
Oh, I know… went completely unnoticed.
As a subnote to the local politics which points to just how daffy and left-wing extremist the area has become, the followup explainer titled ‘5 things you need to know about Seattle’s mayoral race’, the local MSM rag keeps prominently featuring the major, top-billed, seriously serious candidate, spoken word artist, community activist and all around social justice commie, Nikita Oliver with above-the-fold coverage.
http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/politics/5-things-you-need-to-know-about-seattles-mayoral-race/
Activist Nikkita Oliver, shown at a community meeting in February, was one of the early, high-profile candidates to announce a run against Mayor Ed Murray. (Bettina Hansen / The Seattle Times)
Coming BELOW her is scratch-and-dent candidate Mike McGinn, former mayor kicked out by Seattle after a pretty mealy-mouthed doctrinaire progressive term.
Below him comes transportation activist and urban planner, Cary ‘let’s eliminate an 8 lane highway and replace it with an open-air park’ Moon. ‘Nuff said about Cary Moon.
The libertarian candidate who actually had a very straightforward platform of running the city, filling potholes, collaring an occasional purse snatcher and keeping the city services running efficiently and effectively and *cough* actually dealing with the homelessness crisis by implementing the suggestions by the Obama administration, doesn’t even get fucking mentioned. Not even a mention. That tells you just how fucking south shit has gone. Baja Mexico, I pledge to retire unto thee.
http://mynorthwest.com/605256/casey-carlisle-seattle-mayor-candidate/
I don’t get Seattle. It’s like they looked at San Francisco, Chicago and Detroit and said: “Wow, they’ve got some problems. How can we make it so we have worse problems”, and the public just asked for more.
Seattle voters are the battered wives of progressivism.
When your progressive impulses result in economic problems, the solution is ALWAYS to prog harder.
Sorta O.T. – Cast my ballot for the least of the derps in my Provincial election, today. I don’t like any of the Parties but if and when I can poke my finger in a collective Socialist eye, I’ll not pass on the opportunity. I say this as a former card-carrying member of the NDP whose parents were both apparatchiks.
You ex-smokers are the worst.
Yes, yes we are. I saw how the sausage was made, so to speak and my derision is well earned. Don’t get me started on the scorn!
Bah, we’ve got too many Left Coasters on here. Being the 2nd Most Retarded Province™ must make it a libertarian breeding ground or something.
I voted Libertarian. If Commies win by one vote, I guess I’ll feel stupid?
I immediately looked up who the BC Libertarians were running for Premier because I was hoping for some deranged hippie that lives in the woods to privately avoid the effects of electromagnetic radiation/grow organic pot, thinks 9/11 was an inside job, and refuses to vaccinate his kids.
Instead it’s the most boring motherfucker I could imagine. I’m so disappointed.
I did zero research. I was all teed up to write in “Margaret Thatcher”.
Well, no write-in this year. Don’t remember if there was one last time…
*salutes to Rule Britania*
Stamps foot, “It’s all YOUR fault! Ruiner! Running around ruining EVERYTHING!”
Voted last weekend. Won’t tell you who I voted for, but the provincial NDP can go Lick Me.
– as a kickstarter contributer, I do have a vested interest here – but definitely looking forward to this release.
First one was a lot of fun as an indie flick – balls out crazy – this one could be even better.
Can someone smarter than I (so, anyone really) Social Justice-splain to me why a $2000 candidate filing fee and a requirement to show ID to run for mayor isn’t racist?
