Happy Almost Friday. Let’s all start slacking a little early, shall we?
- I’m not saying that there’s a China bubble, but if I was, this is the sort of stuff that I would worry about.
- OPEC saw an almost 20% decrease in revenues last year. It will be interesting to see how nations hold on with less hard currency to trade for free shit.
- Voter fraud? I don’t think it exists.
- Do the Germans want F-35s? Do we spin this as “Trump makes Germans Feel Less Safe” or “Obama Efforts Pay Off Six Months Later”?
- Washington Post, unsatisfied with Fake News by anonymous sources goes to the master, quotes Infowars.
I got to thinking of mixtapes this morning.
So, Joe Lieberman is the rumored frontrunner for FBI director.
The alt-right will be the maddest about that. He’s a Democrat and one of (((them))). It will be interesting to see the left try to tear him down as well.
All my prog friends are pissed about Lieberman’s potential nom. They hate him so, so bad.
Lieberman was the first Democrat that progressives went after because he was not opposed to the Iraq War. Those were the good old days. When I agreed with the Democrats and therefore mainstream culture assured me that I was good. Now I’m a Nazi, because I’m not sufficiently ‘woke’.
That’s back when I thought the Democrats were seriously anti-war and not just anti-Bush, or really anti-they-aren’t-in-power. Boy, was I a dupe.
Lieberman is a MAVERICK, like McCain.
There’s something for everyone to hate!
This is actually how they’re buying off McCain.
I thought that was (((us))) to you.
Are you keeping some sort of list?
I think he’s keeping two, labeled ‘Would’ and ‘Wouldn’t’. We’re all on one of them.
No, not this time. Should I be?
(((Commenters)))
Just make you you check it twice
I can’t be a (((commenter))) – I hate gefilte fish.
Dear God, i hope not. why? he’s the epitome of slimy-insider politician.
Trump seems to want that kind around him.
For their expertise? To keep watch over them? I can’t say I know for sure.
Trump’s primary understanding of politics comes from being a developer in NYC. Slimy is par for the course.
I was thinking something like that.
Heh, first post in the thread and I didn’t see it. Fuck Lieberman, if he was still in Congress he would be the worst person in Congress by far. And that sure as fuck is not an easy accomplishment.
It sounds like Trump may not be getting exactly who he wants though. Allegedly the two picks that Trump wanted to consider was Sen. John Cornyn and Rep. Trey Gowdy, neither being bad picks IMO, but both turned it down. The bipartisan picks like Kelly (stop-and-frisk) or Lieberman (Civil liberties? What civil liberties?) were all going to be shitty for libertarians.
Washington Post, unsatisfied with Fake News by anonymous sources goes to the master, quotes Infowars.
“Is Trump Attempting to Make Frogs Homosexual By Continuing to Fund DARPA?” WaPo asks.
They’re not gay, they’re just French. Jeez.
Well, we’ve already found ways to make frogs sexually attracted to pigs.

I have a feeling this is going to be another one of those “I’m fear for my life if people found out what I did” things.
Happy Almost Friday. Let’s all start slacking a little early, shall we?
Waaaaaay ahead of yah, Brett.
Me too. Everyone needs to believe in something — I believe I’ll have another beer.
(Somedays I just love retirement!)
This my kind of belief system!
I’ve already finished the dregss of the Chardonnay, started in on the Moscato.
are you a sorority girl now?
My sister was on a date with a fellow and the waiter came over to him “You’ll have your usual large pour of chardonnay?” my sister started laughing because she thought the waiter was fucking around with him but a few minutes later he’s got a big glass of chardonnay and she’s mentally cancelling all future dates with him.
Last year I went to my niece’s graduation party, an outdoor grilling affair. My sister (the niece’s mother) supplied wine for the occasion: Chardonnay, Moscato, and white zin.
If I had known, I would have brought along a bottle of Shiraz or Malbec or something.
I went to a wedding where the bride wore red cowboy boots under her dress and the reception had kegs of Coors and boxes of white zin. Probably the most fun I’ve ever had at a wedding though. Jesus those people were all nuts.
Last country wedding I was at had the Coors, no wine, gin (but no tonic), and for a pour of bourbon filled a water glass. I was one of three people wearing a suit, and one of six wearing a tie (I was asked to do a blessing at the service).
A good time was had by all, although the girlfriend was a bit out of her element.
Our wedding was a little country, but not full-on country. We had bottles of Shiner and other random beers, enormous amounts of Texas wine, Red Hot and Blue BBQ, homemade pies, and a campfire with s’mores. I wore a gingham shirt with suspenders. No jackets, no ties. The ceremony had corn hole, horseshoes, bocce, and other yard games. It was like a dressed up version of a backyard bonfire.
So much more fun than a stuffy suit and tie affair.
I hope it was all Barefoot Wines.
May as well break out the Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers and the Zima.
Zima is only available in Japan, yo.
And Charlottesville, VA.
Inside info from the day before I was fired, Zima is coming back.
Check your local Walmart, if your local Walmart sells adult bev.
White Zinfandel?
My wife adores that shit.
Now, a straight-up Zin can indeed be a thing of wonderment . . .
He hasn’t broken out the white zin yet.
It’s the Rose’ now. My wife and her friends says it’s the new hot summer wine. I asked if it wasn’t just rebranded white zin and she looked at me like I was an idiot.
My dad saw me buy a bottle of Merlot, so he decided to give me the gift of… a bottle of white Merlot.
I wouldn’t even serve it to Tulpa, that’s how awful it was.
Hey I was working from home. Once the gin bottle opens, my ability to do anything drops like a rock.
So why didn’t you just stick to gin? 😛
I man has got to know his limitations. And I’ve seen the code I’ve written when I’ve been drunk.
10 GOTO 20
20 GOTO 10
Off the back of the Ballmer curve.
Ugh. One word people; Bulleit
Wine is for cooking.
Heathen!
Good wines go well with food.
Yeah! It’s actually in my decanter now
I see nothing wrong with girly drinks. I love a concoction one of the girls who tended bar at the karaoke place we used to frequent claimed to have invented for my friend (I have no idea if that’s true or if she just renamed an existing drink) – equal parts Malibu rum, Southern Comfort, pineapple juice, and grenadine. Fucking delicious.
That sounds like a hangover worse than death. And possibly a diabetic coma.
I’m going with “coma,” actually. That sounds like a recipe for alcoholic Skittles. Just dry ’em out and bingo!
I have had malibu and pineapple juice and while it is the girliest thing on earth it is also fucking fantastic. I will have to try that sometime.
Pineapple juice is amazing. Among other things, it gave us the Zombie.
And if karaoke is your thing, Pinapple juice and Shochu is the way. Chilled Pine-hi is a great all you can drink…
Welcome to Cleveland
At least you won’t have the Browns to let you down.
Ron Bailey agrees.
Until Ron Bailey has become the Immortal Machine God he has promised us he’ll become I’m going to disregard that.
I think Bailey’s steadfast belief that voter fraud is basically non-existent stems from the same fear that fuels his “singularity will save me from dying” belief. For him, it’s too horrible to contemplate that he might die one day, or that our political system is rife with corruption. Bailey probably feels today the same way that clarkhat felt about the system back in the 90s:
I’ll bet I’m not the only person here who’s reread that post multiple times, but I link for the benefit of those who have not.
Clark wrote interesting stuff. It’s a shame he left Popehat. Ken is great on some issues and incredibly annoying on others. I liked the site better when the perspective was broader.
And Ken went the other way?
I have a button on my browser to that post. I also have printed copies at my house to hand out when needed.
Thanks
Poor Ron. One day he will be perched on a cloud playing his harp and look down to see genetic therapy extend human life by a couple hundred years. The question is will he be glad or disappointed?
He also enjoys interacting with the stalker/troll on Reason, just like Dalmia.
At least Ron is polite, unlike Shikha who seems to be reflexively insulting.
She’s insulting to all 5 senses.
Ok, 3 out of 5 can be done remotely. How do you know about the other 2?
She doesn’t deny it.
See? That’s why Playa is a beloved Gilbertarian and epitome of class.
He didn’t go for the low-hanging fruit.
Voter fraud? I don’t think it exists.
I have a go-to response for that. “Then we should be fine to make it a capital offense with no opportunity for appeal. I mean, since it never happens, it’s certain that no one will ever actually suffer this punishment. So passing this meaningless, consequenceless law will shut up all those nasty Republicans with their racist demands for voter ID.” Oddly, none of the people ever seem supportive of my suggestion.

Worth a read. How the Trump scandals really are an indictment of our political class. Written by Daniel McCarthy, former editor-in-chief at the American Conservative

McClatchy DC Bureau reports that General Flynn didn’t want the US to arm the Kurdish fighters in Syria. Because he was a stooge of Turkey, of course. Watch the media conveniently forget that that was the policy of the previous administration.
https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-special-counsel-mistake-1495063725
The Wall Street Journal said that Assistant Attorney General Rosenstein’s appointment of a special counsel last night was a mistake. To be fair, the Wall Street Journal has opposed the appointment of special counsels since the Clinton administration. At least they’re consistent….
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/17/opinion/special-counsel-robert-mueller.html?ref=opinion&mtrref=www.realclearpolitics.com&gwh=2AECCAD6C5B505D3079E8725491DB286&gwt=pay&assetType=opinion
……which cannot be said for the New York Times which suddenly loves special counsels. If you can’t get behind the paywall on this article (because you don’t know how to use an incognito window) you can just read the latest press release from the DNC. Should be the same.
A query for my fellow drunkards: has anyone had St. George Pear Brandy? Their gin is superb and I just picked up their green chile vodka to try, but now I’m curious about going back for the pear brandy. Yay or nay?
Which St. George gin?
*holds gom jabbar to Negroni’s neck*
I’ve had the Dry Rye and the Botanivore and both are damn tasty. Dry Rye Negroni’s are one of my favorite things. Though I suppose that is probably obvious.
I’m a big fan of Terroir. It’s like drinking a hike in the mountains behind Santa Cruz. I love it. Folks I’ve recommended it to that don’t have a childhood nostalgia of Santa Cruz forests also seem to like it though, so yay.
That one is next on my list. Haven’t had it yet, but I have high confidence,
Readies crysknife
Bless the maker and his water.
Their absinthe is very good. Almost good enough for you to forget you are drinking absinthe.
Excellent. I just recommended their absinthe to a friend for making sazeracs. I’ve never had it but I’m a fan of the distillery so I figured it was a safe bet.
If he forgoes the ruinously expensive St. George’s*, Herbsaint is inexpensive and adequate for background notes in mixed drinks.
*Last bottle I saw was $92
It was only 60 at the liquor store we were at and that place is usually overpriced. I’d guess supply is finally catching up to demand with their products.
You said the magic word.
Now go make me a sazerac. Chop chop
Oh I’ll make you one no problem. You’ve got a long trip in order to collect though so I’m just gonna have to go ahead and drink it myself.
Fair enough. Just drink it while you think of me.
Or drink it while you think of esteemed character actress Margo Martindale. Also good **double thumbs up**
Deal. Maybe I’ll finally finish season 2 of Justified.
Oh, highly recommend it.
Mr. Riven turned me on (heh) to Justified. There’s usually at least one moment per episode that has me telling people on TV that they don’t have to comply with the officer just because he says so, must to the amusement of Mr. Riven, but other than that, it’s a great show.
Additionally, I do actually enjoy that they show cops behaving shadily and conning citizens into compliance. Wake up, sheeple!
Whichever season has Patton Oswalt as the local constable is worth skipping ahead to.
heh nice Dune fail.. it’s spelled “Kwisatz Haderach”
My preference for NYE parties is an Absinthe/Champagne cocktail. I nurse it All evening, it’s delicious and nutritious, well at least delicious
Orly? This sounds really interesting to me. Equal parts or nah?
Nah, equal parts will about kill you if you’re not Hemingway, I go about one to four ab/cham or one to three if I’m feeling adventurous.
Well then…
Hey, when you wake up half way across the country with no memory and nothing but a string of cryptic clues then don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Oh, I’m going to find you first
Good luck

It also works best with a dry champagne, at least for me, the sweet kinda doesn’t blend well with the anise flavor
Shot of absinthe and top with champagne. It’s called a Death in the Afternoon and was allegedly invented by Hemingway. Excellent name and folk history for a mediocre drink
You say mediocre, I say that it helps deal with house guests. Also I actually really enjoy both drinks and combining them I think at least provides an equally good product
To each their own. I’ll give you this though: the drink looks cool as hell. Especially when just poured and it starts to emulsify. Personally I’m not a big absinthe fan nor am I big champagne drinker.
Fair enough, I like both but drink bourbon in far greater quantities. Absinthe and champagne are more for special occasions.
Same. I enjoy them both (on specialier occasions), but I’d never thought to combine them. Sounds pretty tasty.
Ok, informal survey: do any of you think that getting drunk on absinthe is different than getting drunk on any other type of alcohol?
It’s established that thujone does have mild psychoactive properties, but all the science (consensus!!!!!!) says that the amount in absinthe is nowhere near enough to affect you. They say you’d be dead of alcohol poisoning long before the thujone had any effect whatsoever.
I am a staunch opponent of the theory that different types of alcohol will make you behave differently… But I swear there’s something different about being drunk on absinthe. I always feel more docile, introspective, and creative. There’s a good possibility that it’s just the placebo effect, but I’m wondering if anyone else gets the same thing going on.
I describe it as head drunk vs body drunk. It feels different, not tripping different just more in my head than other types of booze
Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.
And the liver work harder.

What Kind of World Are We Building? The Promise of Feminism
It brings to mind women who have stood up, spoken back, risked lives,
Serious question: Can anyone here name one women’s activist, from first wave to third, who actually died for the Holy Feminist Cause? Because outside of radical nuts who were basically terrorists like the woman who shot Warhol, I can’t think of any feminists who actually faced major physical harm that would result in death.
It’s almost like women have some kind of privilege when protesting that, say, black men pushing against segregation don’t.
There have been women who faced danger. The Italian reporter who confronted Khomeni. The first woman to run in the Boston marathon who was physically battered by a race official on the course (knocking someone down as they run a footrace can lead to fatal head trauma so I think it counts).
But, frankly, the danger they faced in the U.S. dropped precipitously between the progressive era and the 1970’s and is now about as non-existent as it can get. Sure, there will always be some background level danger from unabomber type nutjobs, but that is it. Unless you are unwoke enough to criticize Islam for its treatment of women. But that’s not the type of danger they are saying they face.
I think there was some violence against the Womens Suffragettes, but then they weren’t shy of enacting some violence of their own either
Amelia Earhart got disappeared for heaven’s sakes!
What do you hear when you hear the word feminism?
I get a high pitched ringing, that kind of makes my teeth grind.
I hear laughter. My own.
What do you hear when you hear the word feminism?
Generally I hear women who are probably some of the most fortunate people (not just women, people) in human history who benefit immeasurably from male chivalry and generosity and mistake their good fortune for something they’re due by virtue of their wonderfulness. It leads them to an inflated sense of entitlement that manifests as perpetual grievance.
Yourself?
That sounds about right.

Two big cases relisted for conference today at SCOTUS:
1. Peruta – Whether the Second Amendment entitles ordinary, law-abiding citizens to carry handguns outside the home for self-defense in some manner, including concealed carry when open carry is forbidden by state law.
2. Mastepiece Cakeshop – Whether applying Colorado’s public accommodations law to compel the petitioner to create expression that violates his sincerely held religious beliefs about marriage violates the free speech or free exercise clauses of the First Amendment.
Damn if Gorsuch wasn’t made for these. Both have been re-listed multiple times now. Unfortunately, SCOTUSblog hints that both are just waiting for a justice to finish writing the dissent for denial of cert.
$20 says the dissenter is Alito on the second one and Thomas on the first
i will not take that bet.
That Thomas dissent is going to be sweet
1. Peruta – Whether the Second Amendment entitles ordinary, law-abiding citizens to carry handguns outside the home for self-defense in some manner, including concealed carry when open carry is forbidden by state law.
California is going to get salty about this one… Reverse St. Reagan’s racist bullshit and let the commoners arm themselves? Or honor Ronnie’s wish and keep the black man without a gun?

Warty is our security system. The only problem with unleashing Warty on protestors is you have to be prepared for everyone to get raped, or used as weight for squats…It’s a very unpredictable system.
That would seem to be a great benefit in deterring other protests though. But I do see the difficulty in putting Warty back in the box once he is released

After Mueller, Trump Critics Worry: Maybe There’s No Scandal
I’m still counting on the faithless electors to put Hillary in office.
Ignoring the fact that Mueller is looking at Russian election interference, he may only touch Trump in periphery?
This is what i was assuming initially. But even the DoJ left the door open by suggesting that “Related Issues” would be considered. Jesus, you’d think they’d at least *try* to narrow a Special Prosecutor’s mandate before letting them off the leash, but no.
Transparent motherfuckers….although it’s not exactly a surprise, since they were screaming about impeachment before Trump even took office.
exactly. they’re not going to be satisfied by whatever he comes up with, so they’re already preparing for their rhetorical pivot.
On the list for this evening:
Making homemade hot sauce.
For those of you who haven’t heard of King Taco, it’s the grandfather of the modern street taco in America. The quality has gone downhill in the last 10 years, except for the salsa.
I’m uncomfortable with monarchist foodstuffs.
No king cake for you during Mardi Gras? Pity.
I don’t know how I feel about baked goods that have “responsibility roulette” built into them.
I don’t know if you invented that phrase or not, but I’m totally swiping it!
Google says it has occurred accidentally when discussing casinos and that a few churches have said it’s a fun game for giving chores out to other people, but other than that, it looks like I made it up.
Sounds awesome
Excellent. Bookmarked. Will be making this.
looks good. I’ve been looking for decent hot sauce since my favorite was discontinued. I can’t eat much salt, so I can make something myself and adjust it.
There’s also a lot of salt in that Knorr chicken bullion, so you might need to cut that down too.
I don’t use regular bullion. I use a no-salt version (and I’ll leave out about 90% of the salt in the recipe as well). It won’t taste exactly the same, but I’ve gotten used to it.
Mince 3 parts red radish + 1 part garlic, mix with enough mayonnaise to coat, then let it sit in the refrigerator. The longer it waits, the hotter & wetter it gets.
Raw radishes & garlic, I mean.
The Times Square thing looks to be a drunk driving incident for the moment, but I think it’s a sign of the times that my first thought was that some hajji had gone and pulled a Westminster.
Sounds like we need to toughen up the DUI laws. How’s .025 sound?
“Common sense” checkpoints every two blocks, mandatory dui blood tests, the works. As long as it saves one child’s life
I’ll be surprised if this guy was licensed to drive based on early reports of “multiple” DWI incidents.
We need to make driving without a license illegal! That will stop people like him!!!1!1!!!1
True, so there will be an even bigger push towards freeing NYC if dangerous unregulated cars. Public transportation for all, or else
I’m think more like .50BMG into the engine block would stop DUIs cold.
This is why we need common sense car control, no one needs more than 4 cylinders
Wheels. No one needs more than 4 wheels.

What an unfair comparision: Infowars is a couple of tiers above WaPo in both entertainment value and trustworthiness plus they have Caveman with high quality bone broth. What’s not to like?
I watch infowars exclusively to see Alex Jones going nuts. Also his trolling TYT was downright brutal and hilarious
Indeed. I can’t say I agree with Alex Jones politically (other than on the issue of Hillary being a dumb bitch) but I’ll be damned if the dude doesn’t have massive entertainment value.
New WaPo slogan – Democracy dies and Bohemian Grove thrives in darkness. BEWARE FEMA DEATH CAMPS!!

The Left has steadily destroyed language and civil discourse since the end of the Cold War. It’s a goon’s world now and he’s an effective one.
just a coincidence or did Erdogan say “disband the scum”?
I’m sorta sad that NPR isn’t constantly decrying this.
God dammit. Our local police department just sent this out to all the businesses downtown: We are looking at bringing Seattle’s Safe Place to our businesses in downtown and hopefully throughout the city. We are including a link to the website and mostly are asking for businesses that are willing to participate in the program. The police department will provide the window stickers that you all can put up, we just need to have a count and some feedback.
Followed by this link.
Well, when you have an actual Communist on the city council, all sorts of mischief is possible.
Is there? I had no idea!
Better window stickers
Hahahahah! Yes. I’d sooner put one of these up.
The intersectionality statement is what really does it for me.
Right? C’mon, Montana. Get your head out of your ass.
They actually list intersectionality’s definition, wow. I actually had hoped to live in Seattle someday, but damn it, this makes me seriously reconsider.
Isn’t Seattle the place that has a statue of Lenin? If so that should probably have informed you you don’t want to be there.
They literally have a socialist on their city council.
Yeah, but my company hq is there. Also mt Rainer is gorgeous. And despite the serious derp has some libertarian elements

Is LGBTQ violence really a big concern in Seattle?
I’m certain there is a lot of (domestic) violence committed by Seattle Lesbians
No, Norris it anywhere else. This is like the children in America starving. Everyone is sure they’re out there- somewhere. Please send money.
Jeez, how about just go arrest some robbers or prevent some real crime for Christ’s sake.
C’mon man, that shit is dangerous!
Absolutely. If the police department has time to pester shop keepers to post stickers in windows for this sort of crap, then they have too many officers on their force.
Soon to follow
I would think the Montana version of “Safe Place” would be to put a sticker in the window informing people that everyone in the building was armed.
Things I’m reminded of after going on a Bond theme spree this morning after listening to You Know My Name:
1. Despite what was said this morning, You Know My Name is one of the top 5 Bond themes of all time (along with Goldfinger, Live and Let Die, The Spy Who Loved Me and Goldeneye)
2. Live and Let Die is my favorite Bond theme and my favorite Bond Movie and Jane Seymour is the best looking Bond girl of all time.
I went on that same spree this am. My thoughts:
1. I’m not at all an Adele fan, but Skyfall has to be in the top 5. I couldn’t argue if someone said it’s the #1
2. Pretty much every theme song from the 80’s is terrible.
I thought about Skyfall instead of Goldeneye. I couldn’t knock any of the other 4 out of the top 5.
I like your list. But I think I’d have to drop Goldfinger to make room for Skyfall. But ask me again tomorrow and I might pick a different one to drop.
FYEO?
Jane is definitely up there, just for sheer staying power alone.
I have to admit I’m partial to Halle Berry (she’s got that crazy and hot thing going on) and Olga Kurylenko.
And Shirley Bassey owns the Bond theme song category.
Um yea, for sure. Uh, do me a favor and don’t look upthread.

“Barrientos back-pedaled furiously when asked for comment: “I don’t do that stuff. I know that looks bad, me and Sidney talking s*** or trash. That looks bad. And I know it does, but that’s just talk,” he told WFAA.”
Amateur. He’s supposed to say these are doctored and selectively-edited clips, then he’s supposed to have the whistleblower arrested and get an injunction against distributing the video.
I’m facing a crisis. I have 5 purple-leaf plum trees all now infected with Black Knot Disease. I just called my tree guy to come over and see if any of them are savable.
Again with the euphemisms?
So you’re saying your wood is diseased?
Bet that kills your love life
You can say one thing for glibertarians – it’s one place you can go for totally mature expressions of sympathy!
(Which I extend, by the way)
And speaking of totally mature, check her out, hubba hubba!
Is that Zardoz’s mom?
Black knots on your plums? That sounds like ball cancer to me
That sucks man. Hopefully you caught it early enough and it can be dealt with.
At least one is a goner – cutting off the diseased limbs would leave a stump. I’ll have fragrant colorful firewood next winter.
WHY’S IT GOTTA BE BLACK??
Thanks for warning me. I just planted a purple leaf plum in my front yard. I will have to take a look at it when I get home.
Stick in your thumb and see if you pull out a plum.
Not till fall, and they’re sour.
I really like the little plums those trees put out some years.
I’ve only had the tree for a month so I don’t know what they’re like, but hopefully I’ll find out in a few months.
It will probably be years before you see a plum.
I am hoping this whole Joe Lieberman thing is more Trump Trolling. Like the way he fucked with Romney.
+1 plate of frog legs. My mom still cracks up every time someone mentions that.
TW: Slate. http://www.slate.com/blogs/moneybox/2017/05/17/the_trump_administration_wants_to_end_the_public_service_loan_forgiveness.html
Predictably “____ studies” majors have a hissy-fit.
As part of its plan to slash the Department of Education’s budget by some $10.6 billion, the Washington Post reports that the White House will propose ending the federal student loan forgiveness program for public sector and nonprofit workers, and lengthen the amount of time Americans will have to spend repaying their debts on income-based plans if they borrowed to get an advanced degree.
That above was supposed to be in italics….lets see if I can figure out how to tag…
A billionaire president and billionaire education secretary, neither of whom spent a single day of their lives in public service before stumbling their way into positions of immense power, are targeting a program that’s basically meant to make life in underpaid government work a little more tenable.
Never mind the numerous loan repayment programs offered by agencies as a means of recruiting and retaining their employees who would likely be paid less than their private sector counterparts. That’s one thing I’ve found in my search for employment outside the VA. Should I leave for a lateral position at another hospital, I’m probably going to make about $5-10k less per year.
Never mind the numerous loan repayment programs offered by agencies as a means of recruiting and retaining their employees who would likely be paid less than their private sector counterparts.
The days when pubsec pay packages were smaller than their private sector equivalents are long gone, you know.
Yeah that should say “more than their private sector counterparts.”
Most don’t quantify the fringe benefits. Health insurance, TSP, paid leave and the like.
The New York Times is such a cocktease. First getting the progs all excited, then delivering a cold shower.
“But with the cloud over the White House darkening each day, liberal activists are courting a backlash of their own as they demand of their lawmakers nothing short of driving the president from office by any means necessary.”
This article is from 1964! And it has been proven to be right year after year after year, yet we still deal with the same fallacies and stupidity.
I’ve discovered there’s a pretty anarchocapitalist Thai girl doing videos on youtube and facebook.
I present to you HM’s fantasy woman.
The Pholosopher: Taxation is theft
I’d take that black canadian girl he linked a month or two ago over her.
Josephine? Yeah, she’s fine. Doesn’t put out much content though.
Perhaps, but the important part is does she put out?
Thank you tarran, not only for linking to The Pholosopher, but because her video led me to this one.
Also: Which one of you made that video?
You’re all a bunch of fascists.
Would
Damnit, like I needed yet another YouTuber to follow!
Jason Chaffetz to Resign From Congress
Actually, i’m not interested in the House witch-hunt now that they have a special-prosecutor, but thanks for frontloading that AP – i’m interested in why he’s resigning.
Weird. i haven’t followed his previous remarks, but it seems weird to abandon the gig mid-term. ‘Spending more time with family” is normally a joke-response for “my shit just got caught doing something illegal”
Whatever he wants to do, he should “goat” to it.
He got caught smoking cigarettes and drinking coffee
In Utah that’s a felony.
Chaffetz’s father was Jewish, and his paternal grandfather Maxwell (Max) Chaffetz (1909–1986), the son of immigrants from Russia, became an FBI Special Agent.
Obviously an ultra-deep cover multi-generational dual Israeli/Russian mole. He’s resigning before anybody can find out THE TRUTH.
Throw in some Mormon conspiracy and two scoops of ice cream and you might be onto something there.
I’m saving the Mormon connection for next week’s newsletter.
I am reminded of Bull Durham
Crash: That’s a cocksucking call!
Umpire: Did you call me a cocksucker?
Crash: No, I didn’t.
Umpire: Did you call me a cocksucker? Huh?
Crash: I said it was a cocksucking call. You can’t throw me for that!
Umpire: Well, you missed the tag!
Crash: You can’t run me for that!
Umpire: You missed the tag, buddy!
Crash: You just spit on me!
Umpire: I did not spit on you!
Crash: You spit on me!
Umpire: I did not spit on you!
Crash: Oh, you’re in the wrong business, Jack!
Umpire: Oh yeah? Yeah?
Crash: You’re Sears & Roebuck material!
Umpire: Yeah, right! You’re pushing it, buddy. You’re pushing it. You want me to run you out? I’ll run you!
Crash: Oh, you want me to call you a cocksucker?
Umpire: Go ahead. Try it!
Crash: You want me to call…
Umpire: Try it! Try it!
Crash: Beg me! Pretty please, beg!
Umpire: Call me a cocksucker and you’re outta here!
Crash: Pretty please, beg me!
Umpire: Call me a cocksucker and you’re outta here!
Crash: You’re a cocksucker! You’re a cocksucker!
Umpire: You’re outta here!
Crash: Shit!
That movie is a classic.
This is where I wanna be right now. Right. The fuck. Now.
I have a friend who lives way up in the mountains who said this morning they’d had 16 inches of snow.
Heaven!!
That was less burly, hairy man filled than I was hoping.
LOL…that would just be greedy
I woke up to snow this morning. (less than 1″) Pissed me off. It is May for christs sake.
I think we came close to 90 yesterday
DC is turning into a dog’s breath shithole a bit earlier than usual this year. Suffering time has begun!
Come on, October!
We did hit 90 yesterday and today, and we’re expecting a high of 60 tomorrow.
Six inches in Aspen last night.
That’s. . . not an inspiring euphemism.
Radical feminists losing the battle of ideas? Who would’ve guessed? For anybody that doesn’t know, she and Francesca Ramsey were maybe the most insane of all of the MTV SJWs. She’s not exactly having a Stossel moment yet, but still, surprising.
Sargon covered this last week, this is right after Anita Sarkeesian has ‘retired’ from talking about social justice in video games as well. I’m skeptical as to whether this is a grander trend to a more sane discourse, but the radical social justice warriors have started to hit brick walls when it comes to forcing people to comply (and, despite how stupid it was in many ways, Gamergate really was the start of this). I don’t think the upcoming teenagers are going to respond to it positively either, this is their generation’s Puritanism to rebel at against. All in all I think social justice politics has basically maximized its influence for now, so it will remain a bloc within society but have a hell of a hard time expanding beyond that. We’ll see once the people on university campuses end up in government positions.
“Anita Sarkeesian has ‘retired’ from talking about social justice in video games as well”
Gamers hate SJWs. I wonder why?
They make shitty games?
There was an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where Data’s Sherlock Holmes holodecking got out of control, and Moriarty was trying to defeat Data the person instead of Holmes the character. The bridge crew made peace with Moriarty by giving him and his girlfriend or woman a holodeck-universe to play in for eternity.
I’m hoping academia turns out to be the holodeck-universe for the SJWs.
Won’t happen. The SJWs thrive on forcing other people to bend to their will. They DO NOT WANT a society in which people agree with them.
Thing is though that they keep shrinking their circle of acceptability to be in their club. Their purity test makes our purity test look like an open tent.
It can’t be by simple mathematics of how many available social science positions there are available in comparison to the amount of people actually getting degrees. Some will end up in the typical coffee shops, but most will be aiming for the power a bureaucrat’s life gives them.
There’s always blogging for Slate or Jezebel or CNN.
You have to think at some point though that even that going to hit critical mass. Not sure how that isn’t a bubble waiting to burst.
The old media is going to spend the next decade dying. It’s going to be a long, drawn out affair akin to a horrifically slow cancer, but it is going to die. The clickbait news might become the new standard, or just an outlet in a broader system. Point is, the media’s shifting rapidly and I don’t know if these people have a place anymore. Then again, Salon hasn’t made money forever and they still exist so who knows.
You do have your wealthy ideologues that are willing to finance or at least subsidize the propaganda. I don’t think that’s going to stop.
“The bridge crew made peace with Moriarty by giving him and his girlfriend or woman a holodeck-universe to play in for eternity.”
After their honeymoon in Switzerland?
I had said more than once that it would be something stupid which would cause the backlash against SJW-ism. It doesn’t surprise me that GamerGate really started it. The lefties should have known that you can’t fuck with peoples’ bread and circuses. If you combine that with the insane reaction of the left over such an inconsequential thing, it caught a lot of peoples’ attention.
It also the first major example of a response that neutered their power in the long run. For months the media’s spin on Gamergate was how horrible sexist and various other -isms they were (they even had a retarded Law and Order SVU episode on it that is basically the social justice version of the ‘D&D is Satanic’ hysterics of the 80s).
The general Gamergate response? Just keep on going. Don’t recognize their moral outrage as anything but a cheap tactic. The ‘gamers’ dug in and didn’t budge, and constantly pointed out the stupid shit the industry started doing to placate the social justice movement. Freaking Milo started his career writing about Gamergate. There was a lot of dumb nonsense that Gamergate produced, but overall they were a testbed for strategies that at least provided you could slow Leviathan down, and make the wallets of the people who kowtowed to them hurt.
Doable but not really worth it.
The SJW / Anti-SJW Youtube community has been flooded with this over the past few days. Seems like Laci Green befriended the enemy.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHM1_gkHpuQ
Damn that Chris Ray Gun… smooth bastard. *offers fist bump*
Also, I mentioned a while ago, but “The Red Pill” is worth watching if you have not already.
Being thoughtful and being an sjw are mutually exclusive
All I can say is that I hope for the … the …. well, I mean every other time in their history, Politico are wrong again. I can’t even imagine the country under Sessions as AG and this shite weasel as head of the FBI. Just make McCain SOS, Trump! I’m about to join the antifatards!
NO!
I too hate Lieberman but I’m not sure how bad I feel having someone that stupid run the FBI. You know however gets picked for a top cop position is going to suck balls.
Whoever. Stupid autocorrect
It sounded like Trump wanted Cornyn or Gowdy, but both turned it down. Gowdy wouldn’t have been a bad choice, he’s at least voted for a few pro-civil liberty bills during his House tenure. The establishment is also screaming for a “bipartisan” choice, which Lieberman unfortunately fits.
Gowdy would have been a deliciously evil fuck you to Hillary.
I am a horrible person for wanting an entire generation of people to just die already?
Already when my father heard Lieberman’s name being mentioned, he was like “Oh good, a moderate that got stuff done.” I’m pretty sure that there’s a whole generation of people that have this sentiment that no matter how immoral or unpalatable the policy is, getting shit done and working together = good politician.
Yes, blows my mind. Gould the government invest 50 million in sole panel technology or is that. Waste of money. There is. Right answer me a wrong answer. Just saying 25 million is right because compromise and get things done is stupid.
This drives the two sides to extremes as well. If the right answer is compromise then both sides need to lead with the most extreme proposals to get why they want. Compromise for compromises sake is idiotic. It’s like some people think what there kindergarten teacher said remains a valid or useful rule into adulthood.
To paraphrase: if my father was a senator, he would be an even more stubborn and aggravating John McCain. Interestingly, though, isn’t Lieberman perhaps the only pro-DeVos Democrat on Planet Earth?
Not sure what to think = either most-hilarious way to scam Harvard out of a degree, or the shittiest rap-album ever?
College Dropouts make better raps
New York Senate passes bill that would add cops and firemen to list of protected classes under state’s hate crimes law
How long until we have lese majeste laws in the United States that include punishment for insulting the king’s men? Are we already there?
It’s already assault to fart in the presence of a police officer. I’m not sure how much farther you can take it.
Is it? Is that a PHX city code?
Not specifically phoenix, but you can find incidents such at this one:
http://www.thesmokinggun.com/documents/crime/cop-hit-gas-attack
Ha. He cupped it and threw it at the officer? Now that is funny.
Here’s a list of 10. Most of them are lame or in another country, but the last guy on the list apparently got contempt of court for daring to fart during his arraignment.
http://www.craveonline.com/mandatory/1157093-10-people-arrested-for-farting#/slide/10
NY already has special penalties for things like “assaulting transit workers”. (7 year mandatory) Other unions clearly feel they deserve similar protected status.
Let’s compromise. Add cops and fireman to protected class (not like they already aren’t anyways) but make it legal to woodchip pols. Seems fair.
And there’s a bill that increases punishments for assaulting a police dog.
Your dog is a second-class citizen, too.
You are a second-class citizen compared to a police dog.
re the guy who painted Welcome to Cleveland on his roof. That is awesome.
You gotta love a smart ass
20% huh. That’s a lot of people.
http://hotair.com/archives/2017/05/18/poll-1-5-americans-think-transgenderism-mental-illness/
Surprised it’s that low.
To each their own. I wouldn’t apply a blanket statement to everyone. Seems like there is some attention whoring going on in at least a segment although that may be a generational thing.
I would apply it to everyone who thinks they’re something they objectively are not. I think if you replaced transgender with trans any other measurably false identity the numbers would move close to 90%. If that’s right then people have not reasoned themselves into the position, they have suspended reason for a narrow case to be accepted and to avoid harassment.
If your an adult, it doesn’t matter to me what you do with your body. I do think these social signaling liberal parents confusing the shit out of their kids to score points on Facebook or whatever is criminal though. Schools contribute as well.
I’m a little less understanding of the adults, but i still respect their rights. I spent some time in the “live and let live” mentality when I first became libertarian, but I have a hard time squaring the cultural decay from some of these decisions with me being “live and let live.” Instead of government force, I’ll use social pressure to make my disapproval known.
Preach it, Bob. Adults, do your thing, but don’t make me accommodate, pay for, or “celebrate” your delusion.
Correct headline, 4 in 5 Americans have incorrect view of transgenderism
Over at TSTSNBN, the Hair has a Laura Kipnis story – wherein she is being sued for defamation by one Jane Doe. Gawds how I love unintentional self-inflicted irony.
Hot bee-on-bee action.
May not be safe for work. And there’s a GIF substituting for video to show a small portion of the video.
Antennae fondling so hot
I will never look at bees the same way.
Police pursuit alert!
LA, pickup.

And it’s over. Keystone Kop tripped in foot pursuit LOL
Hey look, morewoke math! From Robby Tobesure at the other site.
I didn’t find a single lightning rod, virtue signal, or equivocation. He must be having an off day.
Love this lightning camera app. This was Moments Ago© in NoVA.
’twas quite a storm blowing through. I was a little afraid we were going to get a branch through the roof or a lightning strike on one of our trees.
