  3. It’s racist when whites leave the city. When blacks leave the city, that’s white racism, too.

      1. Schnirt Gurgleburger

Defending Obama’s “achievements”? Or sucking his dick?

        1. kbolino

That’s probably some kind of appropriation, which is also racism.

    1. Waterfall Insurance

It’s not like black people disapear, become poor or vote Republican when they leave Chicago they probably just become safe.

    2. Akira

White people are in all kinds of dillemas (dillemae?) these days. They’re accused of having “no culture of their own”, but when they point out things like classical music, opera, Renaissance painting, and wine production (just to name a few) those things are all shouted down as “lame-ass white people shit”. If they broaden their horizons and partake in some cultural pursuits from around the world, they’re accused of “cultural appropriation”, which makes them worse than Hitler. If they only partake in purely European cultural pursuits, they’re not being “inclusive” enough and are therefore worse than Hitler.

      1. Heroic Mulatto

        dillemas (dillemae?)

As it originates from Greek, the original plural would be “dilemmata”.

        1. Lachowsky

          diliminati-

The power men behind the illuminati.

        2. Seguin

Yes. “Dilemma” from “di-” meaning two and “lemma” meaning lemming, referring to a common way disputes were settled in ancient Rhodes, when a charioteer would throw two lemmings over his shoulder and an observer would note the height and length of their bounces to determine the furthest distance.

          1. LEMMING 1: “Oh, no, it’s a Rhodesian charioteer!”

LEMMING 2: “Restocking on lemmings to abuse!”

LEMMING 3: “Let’s get out of here!”

LEMMING 4: “Quick, over this cliff!”

Something tells me the pajama boys moving into that neighborhood aren’t the baseball-bat carrying type.

      1. In Chicago, they are the Urban Commandos. Young, runner types with very large and loyal dogs. No guns, no kids. They move in, fix up a house, live there until they can sell for a whole bunch more than they paid. Repeat.
I saw a lot of the Humboldt Park area near my Guard armory go through this.
One minutes it is drunks, druggies, gang graffiti and bums. Next thing you know it is doggie day spas and Thai restaurants…

        1. Rhywun

Ah. Here in NYC it’s skinny jeans and ironic facial hair.

Video from last night of a bar in London that was attacked (I think, might of just been the cops securing the business as a precaution). At 40 seconds or so a man loses his shit and starts cursing the Muslims and at 42 seconds another man LYING ON THE FLOOR WITH HIM chides him for doing so. The Brits really are fucked.

Did anyone else notice that it takes 120 hours of training to get a hunting license. That’s 15 days of full-time instruction. To get a freaking hunting license.

More frauleins getting into hunting culture is a good thing, so maybe I shouldn’t be bitching, but holy fuck, 15 days?

Styx is a smart guy who did a pretty good job of analyzing the election but his political schtick is wearing thin for me. My money’s on RF too.

        2. Number.6

The funny thing is that I think Styx is related to a dude who I grew up with in England who claimed to have family in “Northern New England”, whose family name was Warwick, and could easily be the meat-source from which Styx was cloned.

He was a weird fucker, too.

  10. But Enough About Me

Apropos of pretty much nothing in this set of links (but related to something I posted yesterday), I have just discovered that my dementia-stricken father down in the ‘States has THIRTY-ONE long guns (15 rifles, 16 shotguns).

    THIRTY.
    ONE.

He’s got a Ruger .375 H&H magnum elephant gun that takes 300 grain loads. Comes with a ‘scope that makes the gun look like it was a free-with-purchase add-on. And an LC Smith shotgun that’s apparently a collector’s item.

    . . .

I’m gonna need a bigger truck.

    1. Schnirt Gurgleburger

          THE GUN IS GOOD.

          1. But Enough About Me

            THIRTY-ONE GUNS ARE BETTER.

            MUCH, MUUUUUUCH BETTER.

  11. Ken Shultz

I find some of those headlines . . . confusing.

If I say someone is a deer hunter, I don’t mean it’s a deer that hunts. A deer hunter is a hunter who hunts deer.

If I say someone is a vampire hunter, I don’t mean it’s a vampire who hunts deer. I mean it’s someone who hunts vampires.

A firehouse is a type of house. A house fire is a type of fire.

Then you say, “female hunter” and show me a picture of a woman holding a rifle?

I thought you stumbled onto something really exciting there for a minute!

    Call me the hunter
    That’s my name
    Call me the hunter
That’s how I got my fame
    Ain’t no need to hide

And the king of pooping in shoes

      2. MikeS

Going by your handle, I’m guessing you’re also an Aerosmith fan. They stole a bunch of old blues tunes, too. Are they also a “king of the blues” or just a prince?

Snark aside: I am a big fan of both bands. But I am also a fan of the old blues artists; the real kings of the blues. You should look into them and listen to some of their music. By not caring less about the original, you are missing out on some amazing music.

          1. Yusef drives a Kia

““We may lose another black alderman as some of our wards are teetering around 60 percent black. In fact, Walter Burnett’s ward is not black. We lost the second ward in the last redistricting,” Sawyer said”

49 our of Chicago’s 50 alderman are Democrats, and the only Republican on the council won with the approval and support of all the important public employee unions.

    Worried about losing an alderman?

How can somebody be so confused? Why should any Democrat in that city give a crap about what the voters think? The alderman are all working for the city’s employees and their unions. If they want to go with an identity strategy, they’d be better off trying to get more blacks in union leadership positions.

    1. Chafed

Yes but that would require planning and discipline. Neither is a public employee union strength.

  13. Brochettaward

CNN is accused of staging scene of Muslims protesting ISIS. Multiple media outlets seem to have pictured this same small group of ‘protestors.’

    1. DOOMco

*looks in garage for shocked face*

    2. Stinky Wizzleteats

      Wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

    3. one true athena

Saw the “protest” on the evening news without any questioning of it at all.

I think that’s what I hate the most about the current climate. Time was, another outlet would’ve run with the question to damage CNN, to get their own “we are accurate and they’re liars!” points. but now they’re in such deep collusion MSNBC or CBS News won’t even say “hey, that protest looks awfully staged according to this other video.”

    4. Gilmore

The UK tabloid press were running stories about how Muslim cab drivers gave people fleeing the manchester bombing free rides. And their story photo depicted a Sikh cabbie.

They ‘corrected’ their story afterward, but strangely had no other photo except the turbaned sikh guy. it seemed to suggest they found the snapshot on Instagram and decided to concoct some feelgood bullshit narrative around this one guy.

I don’t know what the media is thinking always trying to instantly go for the “hug a moozie!” stories in the wake of terror attacks. it just seems intellectually insulting – as though they think everyone is going to become racists overnight unless they tell people not to. people who blame moozies aren’t going to change their fucking minds over it, and the Lefty pants-wetters about Islamophobia don’t really get a huge popularity boost from it, so i don’t know what they’re trying to accomplish.

On the other hand, you have pretty major political figures trying to Blame “Brexit” for hate-speech…

So much of the left’s (and the media, but i repeat myself) steez these days is just bitter-sniping. Like the way Reuters ran a story saying, “Trump supporters hold rally” and had a photo of a filthy homeless man. I mean come the fuck on. Its so petty and cheap and accomplishes nothing.

    5. Gilmore

Multiple media outlets seem to have pictured this same small group of ‘protestors.’

its funny, you can see the way they’re staggering the “protestors” as though they’re being crowded from behind, and place another set of people about 20 yards farther back?

it gives the impression of depth. as tho there’s more than just that single front line of people with signs. Its forced-perspective camera trickery

seriously, you’d think in an environment where the credibility of the news media is in the toilet? that they’d *avoid* shit like this. but no. they can’t help themselves.

  14. Not an Economist

We may have a celebrity in our midst, this was the next article for me in the huntress article.

    1. Schnirt Gurgleburger

I saw that too, and I thought, who will post it first. Then, I shuddered.

    2. Brochettaward

God help the poor soul who stumbles upon Sugarfree’s blog.

      1. BigGreg

        Damn your quick fingers.

      2. Not an Economist

Any time I read a Sugarfree story I have to go to my safe place.

        1. After reading enough SugarFree, you will realize, there are NO SAFE PLACES!!!!

          *failed sanity roll*

    3. BigGreg

There’s going to be some very confused and disgusted people looking for blogs about sugarfree recipes.

      1. But Enough About Me

Oh, I dunno. If you wanna do a purge after eating sugar, Sugarfree’s blog’s probably pretty effective.

      2. Rhywun

It’s OK, it will be mostly Germans – they can handle it.

        1. But Enough About Me

I f some of the German porn I’ve seen in my life is any indication, you’re probably absolutely correct.

“There are no wrong foods, only wrong ways of consuming them.”

      Heretic! Burn her!

      1. Number.6

I’m straining a little here trying to figure out just how many wrong ways of consuming food there might be.

I mean, after “shoving the food in your mouth” which I presume is a “right way”, I’m running a bit low on inspiration …

        1. BigGreg

I was wondering the same thing, but decided that was a question I’d probably rather not know the answer to.

        2. I’m straining a little here trying to figure out just how many wrong ways of consuming food there might be.

          Deep-dish. Artisanal mayonnaise.

    1. Rhywun

That is a lot more fun than the real thing.

    2. Schnirt Gurgleburger

Ah, the other site; to be sure, I remember it well. But now, I can get all the nut punches I need…right here.

    3. The Elite Elite

Oh, is this in response to anything in particular? Haven’t gone over there in a few weeks.

      1. __Warren__

No, just a general insult to the socks and the lefties that infest the site now.

      2. Rhywun

It’s mostly a few grim holdouts pointing out what an asshole Tony is.

        1. BigGreg

But maybe now they can get Virginia Postrel back.

          1. AlmightyJB

She actually posted something non-fashion related there recently. Within last couple of weeks I think.

          2. AlmightyJB

Also, they posted 9 articles this weekend. There were posting 1 or 2 for an entire weekend for a while.

        2. AlmightyJB

I stop by occasionally but I still don’t talk to Tony. I’ve always tried to ignore the trolls. They rarely ever reply to one of my comments because they know I will ignore it.

    4. John Titor

Personally I visualize it as a more extreme Detroit…back in the old days it was like the golden years from the opening of the first Ford plant to the 1950s. But then things start to change and decay, and everyone moved on to better pastures. Now it’s just a windswept urban wasteland, the storefronts are gone, the infrastructure’s falling apart, gangs and the mentally ill roam the streets. There’s a few stubborn old souls who have holed themselves up in their homes, hoarding food and ammo, but they’ll all end up consumed by that hell on earth in the long run.

  15. Ken Shultz

Very little is more important to the White House press corps. these days than whatever Donald Trump tweets, and his exchanges with the mayor of London have been getting a lot of press. From elsewhere, I just came across this story, where Sadiq Khan, the current mayor London, had to apologize for referring to moderate Muslims as “Uncle Toms”.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3572866/Sadiq-Khan-issues-grovelling-apology-video-shows-using-Uncle-Toms-slur-against-moderate-Muslims.html

He made the comment to an Iranian news channel back when he was the Minister for Community Cohesion, an official title Orwell might have seen coming from 60 years ago.

He seems to have been referring to moderate Muslims who inform on radicals in their midst.

    1. Rhywun

      Charming, if old.

    2. BigGreg

I was completely unaware that the people of London had elected a radical Muslim as mayor. The phrase “good and hard” comes to mind.

    3. The Elite Elite

Minister for community cohesion? The hell do you do in that “job?”

      1. BigGreg

        Eliminate bad think.

      2. Brochettaward

I’d imagine you do what community activist types have always done – you get on a soap box to lob accusations at others and then use the threat of doing so to extort money from others. Basically, he’s the Islamic Jesse Jackson.

      3. Haybob

Judging on his comments I don’t think he was being very cohesive.

      4. Rhywun

Collect a taxpayer-funded paycheck while colluding with your pals to increase said paycheck behind the voters’ backs?

        1. The Elite Elite

But what makes it unique from any other government job?

          1. kbolino

            Visibility?

          2. Rhywun

            Got me.

    1. Brochettaward

I suspect most of the progs in the audience laughing have no fucking clue what he’s saying. It’s a more effective lecture than what most economic professors are providing these days, I’d wager.

I don’t even like superhero movies, and I’d watch Gal Gadot in that outfit for 2 hours no problem.

      2. DOOMco

It wasn’t bad on the SJW side. one catcalling scene, and the main guy tells em to knock it off as they walk by. but they had places to be. Didn’t need to be there, but seemed correct for the time and place.
        I liked it.

  17. Brochettaward

I just read the actual article posted, and Zardoz appears to have graduated from marijuana to opium. Gate way drug?

    1. Lachowsky

Gateway drug? Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug. It’s the hardest of the hard drugs. At least opium has legitimate medical usages.

    2. Gustave Lytton

I warned ZARDOZ about getting stoned but he went and smoked it all instead.

  18. Juvenile Bluster

Golden State isn’t playing particularly well, Cleveland is playing about as well as they can play, and Golden State is still winning by 14 after 3 quarters. It’s silly at this point.

Swiss Village Bans Photography to ‘Stop People Getting Jealous on Social Media’

    https://heatst.com/world/swiss-village-bans-photography-to-stop-people-getting-jealous-on-social-media/

    ***
Citizens of Bergün, a picturesque Alpine village, passed legislation officially outlawing anyone from taking pictures of its scenery this week.

The villagers claim that their home is so attractive that images of it posted to social media by tourists were causing envy, sadness and depression in their friends back home.

A statement by the village’s local government announced the ban, which will be enforceable with a fine of 5 Swiss francs (roughly $5).

The message, posted on Bergün’s website, said:

From today on, a community-wide photographing ban comes into effect in Bergün, which comes from the heart. The new law was adopted at yesterday’s municipal assembly. The reason: photos of the picturesque landscape, which are shared on the social media, can make other people unhappy because they themselves can not be in Bergün.

Well knock me over with a feather: London Terrorist ‘Brainwashed’ British Children In The Park

    ***
One of the three jihadis behind Saturday’s terror attack in London had been reported to anti-terror police on at least two occasions, British media reported Sunday.

The suspect developed deep extremist views over the past two years, according to one of his former friends. The friend said he contacted police about comments the suspect made about previous attacks, but authorities did not move forward with an investigation.

“We spoke about a particular attack that happened and like most radicals he had a justification for anything and everything and that day I
realized I needed to contact the authorities,” the unnamed friend told BBC. “I did my bit. I know a lot of other people did their bit, but the authorities did not do their bit.”

The man got increasingly radicalized by watching YouTube videos of American hate preacher Ahmad Musa Jibril.

“He used to listen to a lot of Musa Jibril,” the friend told BBC. “I have heard some of this stuff, and it’s very radical. I am surprised this stuff is still on YouTube and is easily accessible. I phoned the anti-terror hotline. I spoke to the gentleman. I told him about our conversation and why I think he was radicalized.”

Erica Gasparri, a neighbor of the suspect, claims she reported him to authorities two years ago after he began “brainwashing” her children. She confronted him when her children came home and told her they wanted “to become a Muslim.”

“He was trying to radicalize the children, he would go down to the park and talk to them about Islam,” Gasparri said, according to The Telegraph. “He also came to the houses and gave the kids money and sweets during Ramadan.”

Why should they listen to actual intelligence, when they have all those fun spying powers they can use?

Haven’t we heard this with almost every recent terrorist attack?

    2. Brochettaward

A travel ban – a temporary one at that on all of six Muslim countries – is insane. If Trump’s policy isn’t going to be terribly effective, it’s only because it isn’t an actual ban on further Muslim immigration. But international regulations on social media? That’s the ticket. The European press focuses on Youtube and Facebook, and ignores that this asshole was spewing his insanity in a public park for all to hear.

Meanwhile, some asshole at the NSA is stalking his ex-girlfriend in the some fifty unconstitutional databases they’ve built.

  22. Brochettaward

CNN lectures Trump on how he should respond to terrorist attacks. Tells us that he should not let fear dictate policy and recounts past wrongs. Curiously, it doesn’t mention anything post-9/11. I suspect everyone here knows why.

But the best part is where we are told what will actually work as opposed to a travel ban. Working with allies, beefing up security at ‘vulnerable’ points in cities, throwing ever more money at the intelligence apparatus, and, ironically, fighting them over there so they can’t kill us over here. You know, the same shit, only harder this time. It then ends with praise for London’s Islamist mayor.

Terror attacks like those being conducted don’t happen all that secretly. As in, the friends and family of these assholes have some idea of what’s going on. People in the communities have some idea of what’s going on, and they stay silent. It’s a very small minority doing the killing, but a far larger cultural problem in these communities where radicalization can occur and is tolerated by large numbers of Muslims if they aren’t actively sympathizing with it. Then we can move on the rampant misogyny and lack of respect for basic and fundamental rights like free speech on which many of these people also suck. Then the icing on the cake in Europe is that many of these people live on the dole.

    1. Juvenile Bluster

[aside: Even London’s Islamist mayor has called out Jeremy Corbyn for being anti-Semitic and anti-Israel]

They’re not staying silent though. Both in Manchester and in this case we’ve found out that friends, relatives, and fellow worshippers have reported these guys to MI5, and they’ve just ignored it.

Agreed on the rampant misogyny and lack of respect for fundamental rights.

Italy has very little terrorism despite having a large Muslim population (1.4 mil) and being very close to an ISIS stronghold in Libya. Why is that? Because in Italy, if you say nice things about jihad, they throw you in prison or deport you.

There is no need to build a police state to stop terrorism. Don’t let sketchy people into your country and kick them out if you find any. That’s all you need to do.

It also helps that Italy does things like: “In January 2017 community groups representing around 70% of the Muslim community in Italy signed a pact with the government to “reject all forms of violence and terrorism” and to hold prayers in mosques in the Italian language or at least to have them translated.”

As for stopping the global jihad movement, the focus should be on the financiers, recruiters, and propagandists.

      1. John Titor

Saudi funded mosques in Western countries especially need to be brought to heel. I’m not sure if the answer to that is diplomatic (i.e. pressuring the Saudis to knock it off and go after their national elites who fund it as well) or legislative (i.e. banning the funding of mosques by Saudi/foreign entities) however.

        1. Derpetologist

    from the description

    ***
Mainstream narratives about communism in Europe or China depict it as oppressive, gloomy, and a failure. In 1956 Soviet leader Joseph Stalin’s crimes were revealed and in the 1970s the violent aspects of Chairman Mao’s dictatorship became more widely known, resulting in many people losing their faith in “communism.” Nonetheless, whether in Europe or globally, communism was more than these dictatorships, and we need to allow for complexity and contradictions when we study its history. Many millions of women and men gave their lives in the struggles to establish or defend socialist or communist states. These states provided their male and female citizens with legal, social and economic rights and security that many people are lacking nowadays. For millions of people around the world, the Soviet Union was a land of hope. The Soviet Union had achieved impressive economic growth by the 1950s, it promoted women’s emancipation, anti-racism and anti-colonialism, and supported progressive movements worldwide. An understanding of either the Soviet Union or China as one-dimensional totalitarian and patriarchal states cannot explain their achievements in promulgating and implementing women’s rights nor does it allow us to even begin to understand where their “women-friendly” legislation and policies came from. In addition, in Asia, Latin America and Africa, the USA waged military and economic campaigns against (alleged) communism.

Soviet feminism: frequent abortions and no tampons

      ***
Other American women said they were startled by what they heard about the shortages of contraceptives in the Soviet Union, not to mention the absence of sanitary napkins and tampons.

Soviet women’s frequent use of abortion as a method of birth control also raised American eyebrows.

But they found that the Soviet women, brought up in a more traditional and even prudish society, were reluctant to discuss such matters in detail.

In June 1936, he reversed much of the social policy regarding women which had been written under Lenin, importantly:

Marriages now had to be registered to be recognised.

Divorce was once again made difficult

      Abortion rights were restricted

The family was declared the “basis of Soviet society”

      Homosexuality was made illegal

This put an end most of the progressiveness Soviet social policy may have once had.

Also, as birthrates were falling and many men were dying in the Second World War, in July 1944, the USSR introduced measures to re-affirm the values of the family, as well as to incentivise women to have more children. In actual fact, these measures restricted women’s rights even further. As of July 1944:

      Divorce was made even harder

      Abortion was made totally illegal

Mothers with more than two children were declared “heroines of the revolution”

Parents with fewer than two children face heavier taxes

The right to inherit family property (restricted under Lenin) was re-established.

For a very long time, the official ideology resented the sexuality and physicality of soviet female workers. This social taboo was especially visible in fashion. As the cult of personality dominated the Soviet Union, clothes that accentuated women’s figure were banned. Until the mid-1950s, Ukrainian women wore no low necks, used padded shoulders, and were clad in long loose skirts. Soviet clothing was supposed to hide women’s beauty and be as humble and primitive as possible. Soviet sociologist Igor Kon described the policy as “genderless sexism,” because the identical treatment of both genders did not give women the right to express themselves physically. Meanwhile, bodily self-expression had become an integral component of 1950s-1960s emancipation in the West. Red propaganda spent the following two decades reinforcing the contrast between the decent soviet woman with high morality and the amoral Western female.

      1. Gilmore

I have no idea what the fuck he’s talking about.

remember how last night i said academics tend to always end up recommending a technocracy of experts?

        The nut of W.W.’s tweet-essay =

The best truth-tracking belief-formation shortcut is to just defer to experts…. By “experts” here I mean, truth-motivated people at least as smart as me but better informed on a particular subject…. How do you identify an expert? It’s really easy. It’s only “hard” when you don’t want to update in the direction of the experts…. So which relevant experts doubt that patterns of gender and racial disparities reflect structural power relations? Basically none.

Of course between the beginning of his chinstroker and that last line, he’s completely changed the claim supposedly being addressed.

I think the ‘non-PC’ person would say, =

“The reason for so much conflict between cops and young black men is not mainly because of “structural racism” ; its mainly because they’re the most violent demographic in America by a huge margin”.

And i think the non -PC person would even grant that the shitty-school-systems and prison-industrial complex and the drug war is *certainly* part of it. But you can’t fucking handwave away the murder rate and just say, “experts disagree”.

        1. Brochettaward

Of course, the “relevant” experts are people who agree with him. Those who demonstrate wrongthink are blacklisted.

        2. R C Dean
