The shooting victim declined to press charges. I guess wiping rice dust off your hand wasn’t a big deal for the guy.
CA Man trying to horn in on Florida Man’s turf?
So did the gun go snap, crackle, or pop?
*begins to narrow gaze, stops and applauds instead*
One of my contemporaries back in the late 1950s got an ass full of rock salt from a 12 Gauge wielded by a neighbor tired of getting stuff stolen from his farm. He came way with some pretty astounding blisters.
My HS church youth counselor had a few bits of buckshot lodged under his skin from a hunting accident in his youth. He was like a one-man Ripley’s road show. In HS he was working on his car and dropped a wrench, it landed right on top of the car battery, and he just absent-mindedly reached for it without realizing that the wrench was connecting two points the battery and got zapped to the point that his class ring melted on his finger, and he had to get a skin graft.
I mean, he was joking about buckshot under his skin, and skin grafts how do you not classify that as kind of badass.
I don’t know how the papperazi business works, but i’d assume that most of these b-list celebs aren’t exactly *hiding* from the voyeur-press. Rather, i’d think they probably set aside a few moments a month to stage “fake candid photos”.
e.g. agent calls, says, “Client will be shopping @ 3pm on X street, look for the hot-pants and yadda yada”, or “how would you like some ass-shots from her recent vacation?” etc.
DOES MAN WITH BIG HAIR KNOW WHEN STEVE SMITH SHOULD BE ON X STREET?!
How dare you impugn their honor?! I, sir, demand satisfaction.
“Would you take some thong shots from her recent vacation instead?”
That’s better.
I can’t prove it, but I believe the Kardashians have an equity stake in TMZ. There’s just no other reasonable explanation.
I remember seeing a brief clip from TMZ (?) one night where they caught Jerry O’Connell out jogging. He came over to the van to ask them if they were with TMZ and then continued on jogging quite happily. So, I would say that is one piece of anecdotal evidence in your favor.
If it’s TMZ, you play along. You DON’T want to be on their bad side.
Harvey Levin is a lawyer by training.
He’s actually brilliant.
That’s funny, I keep alerting the paparazzi whenever I’m going for a walk on the beach or a dip in the pool, but nobody ever shows up.
Except that guy from Weekly World News who was doing a story on BEACHED WHALE WALKS ON SHORE.
Isn’t Maldives another one of those countries that’s part playground for the rich and part totalitarian shithole for the natives? Shame on her – whoever that is.
That is my take. Super expensive gated resorts in a totalitarian Islamic hell hole for the residents.
Should be under water in a few weeks though, so it doesn’t matter.
When I was a wee lad, we vacationed in the Maldives a couple of times (we were living in Sri Lanka at the time, so that wasn’t much of a feat.) My recollection is that was mostly European and Japanese tour groups at our resorts – the second time, we were the only guests *not* in a tour group. Every time we asked the staff about something, they’d be all “oh, ask your tour group operator, they’ll figure it out”… which of course did us no god-damn good at all.
…as they rail against Trump for being a dictator-Nazi.
Sweet Smell of Success
I don’t even know who that chic is. Reality TV star the article says. I think that is C or D list as far as celebs go isn’t it? Or am I just out of touch? It must pay decent though.
I don’t even know who that chic is.
She’s called le freak.
*freaks out*
Still don’t know.
Yeah, that’s about right. Or at least, a lot of the paparazzi stuff works like that. Publicists and agents will drop “tips” to freelance photographers or the entertainment media outlets about their client’s location or schedule, just like you say.
From what my wife, my main source on this and something of an expert, tells me, there isn’t really a direct quid pro quo. It’s basically that candid photos of celebrities are worth money, the more candid and the more a topic of current interest the more valuable they are. For celebrities, the more public exposure they have the more their brand is worth–your worst nightmare is going to get an iced soy chai latte at a Starbucks in Hollywood and nobody bothering to take your picture. Plus, if you tip off the paparazzi you’ve got more control over the tone and circumstances of the photos.
There’s a symbiotic relationship between celebrities and paparazzi, and it just makes sense for them to help each other out on the down low. Obviously that’s not always the case, but by and large it seems to be.
Is the “Patel vote” like “Joe Six-Pack” in India?
Its a little more specific than that. Its a caste. And one that has a lot of power in Gujarat.
The term is roughly synonymous w/ “village leaders”. petite-to-haute bourgoisie ; not properly upper class necessarily…. but Big Fish in many small ponds.
I’d think of it sort of like “The Ministers” in The Wire; who were the most powerful people in the Ghetto, and who the mayor always needed on his side in order to win. They were middle class and educated, but they represented people who often *weren’t*. same deal.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patel
Huh. I just thought it was a name.
Ah, helpful! Thanks.
So the FIL has one of the cable news programs on and some law professor was solemnly declaring that there was clear evidence on which obstruction of justice charges could be filed against Trump. But he ended his interview by making it clear that nothing Comey said supported this but the action of firing Comey constituted obstruction of justice.
During the course of the interview, the prof also said there was no doubt impeachment hearings were called for, it was just up to enough Republicans to realize they were going to get devastated in the 2018 mid-terms.
I’m putting my headphones back on to listen to Jimmy Smith while I grade freshman history papers.
“Well, a highly partisan academic said it…so it must be true!”
TBF: being elected as a non-Democrat is an impeachable offense. The rest is just detail.
There are probably more intelligent things in the freshman history papers. And by probably, I mean definitely.
“So, like, then this guy Sigmund Frood said that Napoleon had some sort of complex, and Sew-crates was trying to pick up babes at the mall…”
Where did you get my senior year thesis?
Don’t forget the Dollar-Bill guy.
Matt Welch?
Bill Wirtz?
Candygram!
You can’t fool me… you’re a landshark!
For Mongo?
Somebody posted a NYT article last night about the NY-19 congressional district and how Democrats were screwing up by bringing in people from outside the district to run.
The only problem is, the candidate in 2012 (the first year of the district) was born and bred in the district and still lost by six points.
It really is pretty simple.
Wow, the progs in the comments of the Dershowitz piece are completely unhinged. They just want Trump to be guilty of something so badly.
Our boy Preet has jumped on the obstruction bandwagon.
So he’s a partisan hack? *shocked*
Preeeeeeet!

Gilmore – I posted this on the previous thread, but I figured you wouldn’t see it.
I loved the Jaco ref – insanely great bassist, who was, unfortunately, insane.
He is also one of my top 10 musicians of all time
in fact, my own interest in Wayne Cochran was just a backward reference from Jaco in the first place. I never realized until recently that his fondness for playing “The Chicken” as the opening tune for all his own gigs in the late 70s/early 80s was really a backward reference to having to play it w/ the CC Riders all the time.
It was probably one of those state-learning/”muscle memory” things, like Michael Jordan chewing bubble gum whenever he played ball; where it would basically trick your brain into thinking “ok, its game time now” and suddenly you’d have all your chops instantly available to you.
I saw this Jaco doco film not so long ago, and its very recommended for anyone who wants to see a good bio-pic of a super-gifted guy who sadly falls to pieces.
Well this might take a while, hope it’s worth it, Jaco was great, didn’t he was off
Didn’t know He was Off
I think I saw the same doc. The ending was brutal, pls forgive me if I give it a pass this time.
“The Chicken” is a fun song to play on the bass. A basic rockabilly / major key pattern, but with cool/different timing.
Oh wait, you saw it. Nevamind. Imma go drink somemore.
OK, the statue photo with the kid slipping the Founding Father looking one some $ is funny.
And if that Jimmy Carter statue wasn’t stiff before…
“Hey pal, that is more than ‘Lust in your heart’!”
“I’ve looked on many women with lust. I’ve committed adultery in my heart many times.”
Ya, that one got a chuckle out of me.
A lot of them were pretty good but the captions were universally groan-inducing.
WTF, sports? Again with the USMNT and Stanley Cup Final at the same time?
I was surprised the NHL didn’t schedule Game 6 for Saturday night even though there are no Canadian teams in the final.
Yeah, they said the other day that the schedule was pre-set on the possibility that it might be Ducks-Senators.
I have little interest in hockey. The Mexicans are playing dirty and the US scored 6 mins in….damn.
Catch you all later.
LMAO – Yedlin gets a yellow for a few fouls, Salcedo gets nothing when it should’ve been a straight red.
It’s a good thing this isn’t the match we need to win.
Fuck NYCFC. Yeah, they got payback from Orlando recently for their earlier ass-kicking, but there’s still time on the clock.
…Oh wait, you were talking about the US-Mex game.
Fuck it, what I said still stands, although I’d LURRRVE to see the US beat Mexico in football. Fucking high-handed pricks.
LOL are you drunk? They haven’t played since last week.
“LOL are you drunk?”
Yes I am, goddammit. You’re in my same time zone, and it’s 11PM on the weekend – fuck, seriously?
I should have specified that the NYCFC should be fucked for 5/21, if that helps. We still beat your Bronx boys in April, though, MWHAHAHAHAHAHA! Secret Nazi Goaltender has plans for you!
I’m working on a nice buzz but Sunday night is a school night for me.
Fuck. I am looking for job. Swear to Jeebus.
Know anyone who needs SQL/Excel skills? Also, Tableau!
Dude, you’re worried about MLS?
Overall the referee was fairly consistent, I thought.
I’m confused. Are you a sharpshooter of Mexican descent? Or are you a sharpshooter who…. you know….
Per the US Air Force I am an expert marksman. Per the US Army I am above average. I like my guns but I’m not at the level that Vhyrus takes it to.
I am of Mexican descent, in fact I can trace my lineage to Spain due to my mother’s faamily name being derived from a Basque word. I am American born and thus, unaffected in any way by a theoretical Trumpacalypse…
My avatar, the Mexican Sharpshooter, happens to be a character from the film 3:10 to Yuma.
Hopefully, this clears up any confusion.
3:10 to Yuma was a black-and-white film. :-p
Close enough for government work
“Michael Carroll fought in several of the Civil War’s most brutal battles and when he died at Milwaukee’s Soldiers Home in 1913, he was buried beneath a tombstone with a wrong name.
“For more than a century, Carroll, a private who served in an Indiana infantry unit and the 4th Cavalry, was buried as Michael Curran….
“Tom Mueller, graves registration officer for the Wisconsin Sons of Union Veterans, found the error while compiling a database of Civil War graves at Wood National Cemetery on the Milwaukee VA grounds. He notified the cemetery superintendent in December and a few months later a new marker was ordered and installed.”
Water has just started falling out of the sky! Am I doomed?
Yes.
How a Chicago Pizza Heir Made a Name for Himself As a New York Restaurateur
“If you live in the Midwest, you’ll recognize the Malnati name. [Will Malnati’s] family owns Lou Malnati’s, the beloved Illinois-based deep-dish pizza chain with nearly 50 locations. Malnati jokes that he was probably conceived in a restaurant, and growing up, he says he worked every job at Lou Malnati’s. For most young people aspiring to jump into the hospitality industry, a successful chain with a devoted following would sound pretty good, but what’s most surprising about Malnati is that he’s worked hard to make his own name, quietly opening some of New York’s most popular restaurants in the process.”
It’s nice to know he was able to transition from his family’s casserole business to making other food.
*narrows gaze*
BELOVED, DID HEAR THAT, IT IS BELOVED!!!!
True domineering species eat pizza that folds while threatening to run down your chin.
You are the worst.
Worse than Nicole?
That was pretty mild by HM standards.
*Content Warning*. Fitting.
I’m always afraid when HM break out the center tag.
*claws at eyes*
“While Vladimir Putin praised President Donald Trump in St. Petersburg on Thursday, Russian censors inexplicably removed a portrait of Abraham Lincoln by a prominent New York artist from a museum show in the same town, Page Six has learned.
“Artist Hunt Slonem’s show at the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg’s Marble Palace opened last week and drew US VIPs including Georgette Mosbacher….
“…[Slonem said] “I’m so grateful for the show. It didn’t bother me. It wasn’t the focal point.” He also said of the St. Petersburg setting: “The palaces and all the canals — it’s just untouched by time. Unbelievable, such an exciting place to visit. My dream city.”
“He’s done many Lincoln portraits, and previously explained, “I work with diviners and mystics . . . One of them started channeling Lincoln in my house. [Lincoln] guided me to paint certain things, like my doves: He wanted me to paint them as a symbol of freedom.””
Lincoln and Russia in happier times
USA! USA! USA! USA!
Unbelievable
At this rate I’m going to have another “politics burnout” period pretty soon. I’ll make sure to grab a different brand of liquor to help with the pain, though.
You don’t make your own?
I wonder how they virtue-signal in flyover country.
Ill look around
Heh OK
They (their NYC ad agency anyway) probably believe everybody in flyover country is making moonshine or only drinks bourbon, so why advertise vodka?
The NYC add agency probably never thought about flyover country, period. I’m reminded of Budweiser thinking that Amy Schumer talking about the wage gap would be a good way to sell beer.
It’s a great way to get me to drink beer, just not theirs.
Guess I can’t buy Smirnoff Ice anymore. One of the only alcoholic drinks I actually like. *sigh* Why do companies needlessly insert politics? Why alienate people from buying your product or service?
Or local Kroger’s does that to me all the time. I’ll find some product I really like, buy several everytime I’m there and then after a few months they stop selling it. It’s an ongoing joke with my wife and I because it keeps happening.
It’s a standard tactic at Trader Joe’s, it gets to the point that people purchase some seasonal items by the case. So far, the only one that I’ve been burned by is ladyfingers (for tiramisu or beeramisu depending on what party I’m bringing it to).
I don’t know I think it’s pretty clever.
Same, I thought it was kinda funny.
Might be my tone I read it in, but to me it but just seemed to be mocking the whole situation. I don’t drink anyhow, so they aren’t losing me as a customer.
Why do you hate the honest, salt-of-the-earth, rural working class American, leonadasiv?
That’s not true, they provide the best source of orphans for my mines.
Never buying Smirnoff again.
Any company that thinks being a smug smart ass by engaging in politics can kiss my ass.
Me either. Of course, that’s because I’m a cheap drunk.
But I promise I won’t even if I ever get a fucking job.
Why the hell does a ref blow the whistle when the puck is still moving just because he loses sight of it. My novice hockey fan doesn’t get the rational for that
Why does anything happen in hockey?
Because it’s not football season? I dunno, I’ve only been on this bandwagon for a couple weeks
I didn’t get that either.
They simply loss sight of it.
Pretty bad miss though.
I think the question is – at least for me – is a goal really invalid if the ref doesn’t eyeball it? Even with score review??
The best way I can answer this is that, to your first question, is logically no but it’s the rule. As to the second, it’s not reviewable I don’t think…so moot?
it’s logical
Stanford student: debate is important, but debating the ACA repeal is illegitimate.
STEVE SMITH ALWAYS INTERESTED IN ILLEGITIMATE WHATEVER
A small percentage of people want the AHCA. Therefore, everyone else must want to keep Obamacare! It couldn’t possibly be that a huge chunk of people think this replacement is piss poor.
/derp
“There is no need to debate this question because I’ve already told you the answer!”
“The alternative view is (barely?) unpopular, which is why we should make sure no one ever hears any more about it”
Hey, it’s that guy. He’s the same one that wrote this fawning memorial to Fidel Castro last year
“And, all of this Cuba has done despite being placed under the most lengthy embargo”
What bullshit. Virtually every other country in the world traded with Cuba. The biggest problem with the embargo was it allowed Cuba to scapegoat the US for their economic crap.
That is an impressive delusion – too much to unpack even.
Jumping Jesus is that awful prose.
Are we sure this guy isn’t actually trolling? Claiming the Castro revolution stamped out racism? Really? Really?
Hey, look, just because black Cubans hold no positions of power and the Castros are openly racist against black people , why would you think that that the Castros are racist?
lolol, “second only to Chile by the tiniest of margins”. GIANT MARGINS. YUUUUUGE Margins.
what a ignorant fucktard.
And somehow there wasn’t a single black member of the government at any level until the – what, the 1990s? in a country that was 50% black.
And then with equally breakneck speed, you’d be tossed in jail if you got caught reading material that the regime didn’t approve of.
Kids who were born around the time the US invaded Afghanistan are now almost old enough to go fight there.
Brendan O’Neill provides some thoughts on the UK vote:
“The political map of Britain is changing in a pretty amazing way. I’m not sure we’ve fully grasped it yet. As more election number-crunching is carried out, it’s becoming clear that the Tories and Labour now play entirely different roles to the ones they played just 20 or 30 years ago.
The first thing that’s becoming clear is that people have overstated the extent to which Labour won over Leave voters. According to Lord Ashcroft’s exhaustive national survey, 60 per cent of Leavers voted for the Tories and only 25 per cent voted for Labour. John Curtice, the BBC’s key number-cruncher, reports that the biggest swings to the Tories were in Leave areas, while it was in “seats which voted Remain last year [that] Labour pulled off some of its best performances”. This means the Tories had huge swings in very poor areas like Boston and Skegness and working-class areas like Bolsover — which are Leave areas — while Labour made enormous gains in Hampstead, Kensington and Canterbury, which are Remain areas and / or well-off areas. The Tories made inroads with the poor, Labour made gains among the posh. This is fascinating.
More number-crunching is needed, but two things are becoming clear. 1) The idea that the Brexit issue or the Brexit divide has gone away is a fantasy. It merely takes a different form now, with Leave largely orientating around the Tories and Remain around Labour. Ashcroft says 68 per cent of Tory voters are Leavers and 64 per cent of Labour voters are Remainers. That is extraordinary. It’s the divide of our time, and we shouldn’t deny that. And 2) Labour, even led by Corbyn, is not a party of the working class. In fact it is becoming something else. It is morphing, or at least might morph, into being a party of the middle class that wants to *keep in check* working-class anger with institutions like the EU. Let that sink in. And let’s see what happens next. Politically speaking, these are strange and brilliant times.”
This all sounds awfully familiar to an American.
I’d probably fall into the educated, affluent/upper middle-class demographic and you’d have to slit my throat before I’d ever vote Labour or NDP or anything left-wing. I know who my enemies are unlike posh-boobs.
Yeah, but you’re intelligent, despite you being Canadian.
/smells armpits.
What? I wasn’t listening.
Well, you know, it’s all aboot coming together.
Red Letter Media’s best reviews are for terrible movies not worth talking, so they spend the entire time talking about Hollywood practices and how they’re complete hacks.
I liked the Lifeforce comparison shots.
I hate hockey.
I’m liking it so far.
Rooting for the Pens is akin to rooting for Satan. Except rooting for Satan would be more noble than rooting for the Pens.
Fuck the pens.
Yeah; Sloopy is going to be insufferable in the AM Links.
It was up against the Tony Awards. I had to laugh thinking that there wasn’t a huge overlap between the kind of people who care about the Stanley Cup and the Tony awards.
Somewhere out there is a some poor Canadian with a great singing voice crying about be overlooked.
Still 0’s
Of course.
“Tansy Huang No. It is actually fair that you step aside for a Black or Hispanic candidate despite you working harder or studying harder.I completely approve this way of making admissions…Sorry to tell you this, but I feel that I can since I do work in Asia a lot. ASIAN CULTURE IS THE SAME.IT HAS NO DIVERSITY. THE DIFFERENCES ARE JUST TWEAKS HERE AND THERE. INDIANS FROM INDIA COLONIZED ALL ASIANS. THEY BROUGHT WITH THEM THEIR RELIGION AND WAY OF LOOKING AT LIFE. That stuff is still in use in the whole of ASIA. HOW ELSE DO YOU ACCOUNT FOR HOW WOMEN ARE TREATED BY ALL ASIAN CULTURES?? Now, if you are talking about Africans, then yes, I will say that Africans are extremely diverse. Their cultures have nothing to do with the other. That is why they go to war so often. BECAUSE THEY ARE DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER.
It is clear you don’t understand what Affirmative Action is. That is a good reason to keep you out of college. If you understood Affirmative Action, you would turn your rage on the majority race. You are not being kept out because of black and hispanic people. You are being kept out because of white people. They want their colleges to be white heavy. And you trying to attack us, shows us once more how cowardly you are. You are therefore not suited to go to a prestigious college, no matter what. Prestigious colleges are also about personality and individual values. What can you give to society you coward? What do you have that we need? You freaking coward!!!
Oh, and you are also a racist to boot! NO. NO PRESTIGIOUS COLLEGE FOR YOU. NO.”
From the earlier link about how princeton referred to asian candidates.
