Proggie tears rock!
The FDA needs HUGE new powers to stop this crisis.
What can Democrats learn from GA special failure?
Got news for ya, Johnny boy, they can’t learn anything. Their plan is already in. Doubling down on identity politics, Russia hysteria, and moving further left, did not work. Solution? TRIPLE DOWN!
You left out: waste tens of millions of dollars on (a) enriching campaign consultants and (b) massive messaging campaigns to make sure the irredeemables know how much you hate them.
The great news is that the stupid party believes it’s a tacit endorsement of all things GOP and not a repudiation of SJW bullshit. The back in forth is like watching a Globetrotters game. I have to endure it, knowing what the outcome is going to be, after paying someone for the privilege.
You’d think, with all that lunacy, people would want a saner option. But no…they (both sides) are giving the population EXACTLY what they are asking for.
Fuck it. Let it burn!
Those SJW types with the expensive women studies, communications, or political science degrees need to pay off their school loans too bud..
And alienating half the country calling them names.
BTW, I keep hearing that Democrats are 0-4 in special elections. It’s 0-5. There was a special election in SC yesterday, in which the Democrat also lost. But none of this matters, 2018 is what’s important!
Nothing matters until they somehow win something – even a race for dog catcher in east bumfuck – and then it is the surefire sign of the impending Trumpocalypse…

Prediction: this election will prove to be the harbinger of the $300 million campaign for Scranton County dog catcher
Other than Scranton not being a county, sounds pretty prescient, ainah?
I bet you really live in Garbagedale, not Scranton proper.
“Y’all come back now, you hear?” – fat Georgia TV ad salesman counting cash and chuckling in his leisure suit

Dems are actually 1-4 in special elections. The only one that they “won” was an ultra-safe Mexican-majority district in the middle of Los Angeles that was both vacated by the new California statist asshole AG and was an election between two Dems. So basically the Rs swept.
Nice art work, Pompety. You should do some orphans stacking tear barrels.
I don’t know how a T got in there. Where’s muh edit feature.
I like it
Pompety has a certain playful aire to it.
Like Giggety.
Ear barrels?
I didn’t even vote for the man, but it’s like every day has been Christmas since he won. Sure, maybe it’s a little petty, but I love to see these sanctimonious, vicious, patronizing bastards implode as their world crashes down around them.
It’s early days yet. All we know about political predictions is that they’re worthless. Who knows whether doubling down and throwing tantrums won’t contribute in some way to defeating Trump? If not directly, then by allowing a good cop/bad cop act: “Look at how divided this country is! If only we could get moderate leadership like [insert name of Dem candidate].”
If I hadn’t lost “friends” over it, I’d be a lot happier.
Apparently the “friends” in question are not smart enough to reflect on how I stayed their friend through 8 years of Obama, and stay friends with me. Good riddance?
DUH! Obama was a good guy. Trump is the devil!.
This reminds me of the adage: If you loan a friend $20 and never see him again, it was worth it.
I had a girl cut contacts with me because I voted for Trump. She claimed I was a racist and a misogynist. U of A student, young and black. Pointing out that literally everyone I associate with including my girlfriend of nearly a decade was also either black or minority didn’t seem to change her mind. Oh well.
It occurs to me that maybe a lot of people may be too young to remember this (get off my lawn!) but I remember the freakout over Obama getting elected. Lots of crazy conspiracy theories thrown around, lots of feelings that Obama hated America and was going to destroy it, etc. The parallels between the Obama-deranged and the Trump-deranged are pretty obvious to anyone who was at least 18 years old when Obama got elected.
It’s a question of magnitude.
I was in my 20s when obama was elected and I don’t remember ANY of that. The only thing that I can even come up with is there was a run on ammo after his first election cause ‘da demz gon take our GUNZ!’ I do remember a slight amount of ‘un american, secret muslim, hates whites, etc.’ after his second election but I don’t remember much if any of that on the first.
It wasn’t given as much airtime by the media, except to mock it, but it was definitely there. I suppose it depended on where you were/who you knew, though. Some of the people I knew who were big into that stuff were on the older side and aren’t even around any more, so make of that what you will.
I remember my grandfather telling me on, I think, the Easter of O’s first inauguration, that whatever Obama did wouldn’t matter because the Supreme Court would soon overturn the election on account of him not being born in the US. Though I knew he was quietly racist, I didn’t know him to be into conspiracy theories before that.
Let’s not forget that some of the wilder wild-ass stuff such as the whole Birther stuff was a hit-job by Clinton’s Oppo Research team.
Yeah, there was some ridiculous stuff out there, but the primary one was the Birther issue with the “Who’s the real daddy?” add-on because of Sidney Dunham’s friendship with Frank Marshall Davis. Much of this had traction because – cumulatively – it cohered. The issue of whether it was true, of course, is another matter. Personally, I think there’s a lot to be answered in respect of Obama’s academic record, and a list of known associates which would certainly have been sufficient for me to have my Green Card application declined.
But you didn’t see near-riots on the streets, or anything of the *magnitude* of what we’re seeing now, or the calls to violence we see day by day.
True. I am making the argument, don’t you people know how ridiculous/insane you look, rather than trying to establish some sort of moral equivalency to justify the “antifa” thugs.
Media is the big difference. NBC wasn’t doing 94% negative stories on Obama.
In fact they were protecting him even as he sicked his people on them for reporting minor negative stories…
The difference is that Obama Derangement Syndrome was pretty much limited to a fringe. The wort of it, by far, was the birther thing, which was originated by Hillary, and I believe egged on by Obama (very cleverly) as a way to distract/marginalize his opponents. To this day, I believe that the birth certificate that he released was intentionally altered just to keep the birther thing rolling a little longer. And I think he really was born in Hawaii.
TDS has infected the mainstream DemOp Media, the entirety of the Democrat Party and (more quietly) much of the Republican establishment.
How dare you call Mike M. fringe!
SHUT UP QUEERO-SICK BLOTTO
I thought it would be HAIRPICK MCLOTTO?
Maybe we should have a day where everyone posts under their Mike M nickname.
I am Mike H, as in Mike Hunt……
The anti-Obama stuff wasn’t taken seriously by anybody other than a few Fox News Hosts. The anti-Trump hysteria is treated as gospel by everybody except for a few Fox News Hosts.
Gotta question if they ever really were friends, right?
I have a couple of friends (no! REALLY!) who I’ve kept purely because we are all scrupulously apolitical when we interact.
We were all on debating teams at various points in our lives, so it’s doubly difficult because crushing our enemies in a bare-knuckle debate is our caviar.
From time to time, we have this mutual agreement to stay out of each other’s ways.
Well, I mean, considering the shit direction a lot of liberty seems to be headed, gotta take our pleasures where we can.
I’m in the same boat. Don’t like him, still don’t, but man oh man. I thought the schadenfreude would be long gone by now, but it’s actually still increasing.
“If your schadenfreude lasts longer than six months, seek medical advice.”
Doc, six months isn’t enough! HOW CAN I MAKE THIS LAST LONGER?
I just need one more hit man. I CAN QUIT ANY TIME GODDAMMIT, I JUST NEED DEM PROG TEARS NOW.
I continue to appreciate the fact that Trump has an almost magical ability to cause people to tear off their masks and reveal every emotional imbalance, moral bankruptcy and insecurity in their personality. Hell, it even happened to plenty of libertarians (like Penn “I don’t know how American nuclear policy works” Gillette).
This. It’s his superpower.
The strange part of it has been watching guys like Jillette or even TSTSNBN go off the rails on Trump. They were always, at least ostensibly, committed to some key set of principles that they claimed took precedence over which tribe took the White House. But, now, Trump could announce that he was going to legalize marijuana, dismantle the FDA and slash U.S. military commitments abroad and they’d be insisting that this was somehow him raping libertarian principles.
That’s also pretty much precisely what it would take to get me to vote for him in 2020.
Well, that and repealing Obamacare and not replacing it with something just as bad.
Good luck with that. Establishment republicans love them some big government just as much as the left does…
I would settle for some gun laws gone at this point. MJ is going to be legal in a decade at this pace, no need to rush it.
In fact I would go as far as to say if there isn’t some significant movement on rolling back gun regulations I won’t vote for him in 20.
He does those three things, I’ll vote for him too.
If he keeps making decent judicial appointments and continues to push back on the regulatory state, I’ll vote for him.
The big agenda items – immigration, taxes, healthcare – those are all, sadly, in the hands of the idiot Republican Congress.
“If he keeps making decent judicial appointments and continues to push back on the regulatory state, I’ll vote for him.”
I’ll vote for him also in 2020 if he does that and refrains from doing anything truly horrible. I mean, look at it shit way, it’s either that, sit it out, or hope against hope that the LP can actually put up a team who are not an utter embarrassment.
He’s already earned a “Won’t vote for the Democrat” already, but that’s a mighty low bar. He’s on a trajectory to possibly earn my vote in 2020, but that’s a hell of a long way off.
The sooner he shit-cans Sessions, the better. But I’ll probably just end up not voting for the sixth straight presidential election.
I touched on this before on The Other Site, but I think that’s a product of a subconscious bias towards Top. Men. that is present in some parts of the libertarian population. Places like Reason will hold career politicians to a lower standard because they subconsciously accept ‘Top Man’ thinking, i.e. that these people are somehow different than normals and more qualified for office as a result. Trump, being an outsider, has to be held to a much high standard (along with, in the case of Reason, them being submerged in progressive journalist groupthink which only re-enforces their bias). Hence why Obama can show all the signs of narcissistic personality disorder and never have a Reason writer point it out over eight years, while they’re psycho-analyzing Trump and branding him a narcissist on day two. Same thing with foreign policy. Obama supporting the Turkish coup is bad, but not reflective of his personal failings, while Trump working with Turkey now proves how he loves authoritarianism.
Like I said, it’s nice to have the masks off to see people for what they really are.
It is too much to ask that people be intentionally honest and interesting instead of just unintentionally honest and utterly predictable?
I would really really love to see Trump deschedule cannabis for other reasons besides the obvious. One, to make Sessions cry like the whiney little beotch he is. Two and most importantly to watch the left totally lose their shit and go full on authoritarian trying to reverse it.
“He’s trying to kill black folks with the devil weed!”
LOL, that’s truly funny because I can actually hear them saying it.
Nah, I think the left would be quite happy if Trump did that, or at least the Secular Talk/BernieBro wing of the party would be. The #RESIST at all cost types, though, that’s another story.
Sessions would resign if that happened. All the more reason to hope that Trump actually does it.
(currently working on an RFP for an app that will make all my internet comments be read aloud by holograms of these people)

So that “Nooooo” girl thing really creeps me out, because she looks so much like 2017 version of a girl I dated in ’90 – ’91. Just to reiterate, that is NOT what she looked like in high school, she looked like the girl from Pump up the Volume in high school. But when I got a Facebook friend request from her a few years back, she had transformed into something almost identical to that hideous thing. Appropriately enough, I think my reaction was, “NOOOOOOOOO!” Everytime I see that clip I’m reminded of what happened to her and I get sick.
My wife sees her like something on Facebook and is all, “Who is that?”
“Oh, just a girl I… was kinda sorta friends with in high school. Didn’t know her all that well.”
“Didn’t you date a girl with that name?”
“NOPE! Different girl! That girl I dated… died I think.”
So that “Nooooo” girl thing really creeps me out
Of course, it was staged. You can see her break character for just an instant to glance at the camera. The fact that they thought that little performance was going to be a Powerful Statement of Resistance instead of an endlessly mocked selfg-indulgent tantrum shows what a closed little universe they live in.
Like porn actresses checking the camera angle a few seconds before the money shot.
/comment by a friend,
Yeah, sure… a friend…
To be fair, this was my reaction when they announced the new Zelda game would be open-world survival crafting shit:
Are we absolutely sure that thing from the inauguration was a girl?
Or even self-identified as one, shitlord!
I was in an interesting conversation with some leftish acquaintances less than a week ago on DerpBook. Essentially, all I argued is that both sides should recognize one another’s common humanity and at least try to assume the people they oppose are likely acting in goodwill.
The responses I got were instructive, if sad,
“I’ll remember your words the next time my wife is hate crimed AGAIN. Punched in the face in the middle of broad daylight and knocked out. The shooting of Gaby Giffords. The bombing in Ok City. Numerous others. Poor, poor u. Are u this upset about the killing of young black males day after day? Yes Tucker-his rant is ALL about him being uncomfortable. He wants ‘his America back’….”
“this guy’s “Bernie” fueled bullets are on the same level as the Palin fueled bullets of Loughner a few years back. Clearly we’re looking at nut jobs or alcoholics for whom the politics are just a vehicle for their nuttiness. The REAL problem is the blame, the “You hit first” stupidity, and the incredibly exaggerated claims of evil intent, as if the opponent isn’t just wrong, but evil. That’s the problem here, and you’re not really proving to anyone that you’re not part of it.”
Now, as far as I can tell, neither of these are radicals in any sense of the term. And the legitimization of political violence and dehumanization by the mainstream left was actually a point I’d made earlier in the discussion. But, this just kind of proves my point. At no point did I have any problem getting mainstream rightwingers to disavow political violence.
The political left has always been about revolution and violence. Oh sure, they learned to tone it down and hide it, but when they feel their backs are up against the wall, or they will get protected by the news gatekeepers, they let that mask slip, and you see the inherent violence of that dogma clearly. Victory at all costs can never disavow violence.
Ends. Means. Who cares?
“The bombing in Ok City.”
ATF agents and FBI agents burn ~80 civilians alive inside their home without trial. No one is ever put on trial for their murder. The Attorney General doesn’t even resign to become a professor or a speaker, she keeps on acting as the FBI’s boss. No one is even slightly punished. ~80 civilians, including dozens of women and children, are burned alive in their homes and the feds continue on as though nothing happened.
2 years later to the day, a man bombs the federal building where the FBI and ATF has their offices. Somehow, large portions of the American public see no connection between these two events.
Since 1995, the feds have not burned any more kooky religous groups alive in their homes.
Good point. And one that pisses off the SJW types. Government violence against icky people they don’t like is great, but someone giving said government a taste of their own medicine somehow is evul.
This brings to mind another thing – some of the same people who wail about children supposedly being ripped from their illegal parents undoubtedly fondled themselves over the picture of a submachine gun wielding government thug grabbing Elian Gonzalez.
That was for the right Reason!
Elian needed to go back to the Cuban paradise so he could grow up with love and in the glory of all the joy collectivism offers……
I said at the time that even if they decided he needed to go back legally, they should have granted him US Citizenship before sending him back. When he turned 18, if he wanted to come back, make it an international incident if Cuba wouldn’t let him out.
It’s no fun, being an illegal Elian…
*narrows gaze*
Seeing that connection in the OKC bombing was one of the things that turned me from Limbaugh-listening conservative to libertarian.
Be careful. You are dangerously close to admitting that blowback exists. Howling monkeys will descend upon you.
Poo flinging!
Cytotoxic will arise from his mother’s basement and the earth shall tremble ‘neath his pale girth.
What ever happened to that guy? I was looking forward to posting his quotes about how “Trump will lose in a historic landslide” all year long every time he made any sweeping prediction.
I only have theories, most of which involve Magic: The Gathering conventions.
He’s somewhere with the Reason writers crying salty ham tears, that’s where.
I think he finally got a job. I really wish he had visited post-election, but somehow I just think it’d be more him freaking out over how stupid Americans/Republicans are for electing Trump rather than admit he was wrong.
Well, if he got a job, there’s not really a place for him here anyway.
I just remember him constantly whining about looking for work. I sent him a link to the Armed Forces recruitment site since he was always so gungho on military intervention. He said he didn’t like to get up early in the morning and that it was lesser people’s jobs to fight wars, while elites like him planned them.
What a cunt.
maybe he was hoping to be a Top Man under Hillary.
And he will be shocked, shocked! when it is his turn against the wall.
Why would he fight in the wars he wanted so badly? That’s just silly.
We’ll schedule him for an evening slot in the courtyard.
Why would he fight in the wars he wanted so badly?
Well I don’t think he intended for Canada to play World Police. Canadian warhawks are a special brand of retarded.
I did some Googling… Cytotoxic hasn’t posted on Reason since the election as far as I can tell.
Didn’t he later claim that he was physically unsuited to join, like there was something wrong with him that he couldn’t serve?
“Cytotoxic hasn’t posted on Reason since the election as far as I can tell.”
Ah, so my calls to Trump asking for him to be deported on day one actually paid off. Nice.
The last time I remember seeing him is just after the primary where he was freaking out about how incompetent the Republicans are and how Trump was going to doom their entire party to the history books.
It hasn’t aged well.
Didn’t he later claim that he was physically unsuited to join, like there was something wrong with him that he couldn’t serve?
He talked about not being able to gain muscle mass and being super-skinny. Warty had a fun time with the idea of stick-limbed Canadian warhawk.
I never really understood his big gripe with Trump. I guess because he wasn’t saber-rattling enough in the election?
Wouldn’t a Top Man under Hilary still be a bottom?
I never really understood his big gripe with Trump.
The anti-immigration rhetoric mostly. Cytotoxic was just as open borders as he was military interventionist. This is your brain on Leonard Peikoff.
But Cytotoxic wanted to kill all Muslims. Being open borders and genocidal about the same population makes no sense.
I blocked him at some point in the primary, so I guess I missed the nuances of his inanity.
How so?
No see, Cytotoxic didn’t want to kill all Muslims, Cytotoxic wanted to overthrow their governments and civilize them, it’s classic White Man’s Burden shit. Dead Muslims were just the broken eggs to make the omelette. But those Muslims mysteriously have their minds wiped of their dead family members and have the sudden urge to embrace another culture immediately after crossing an imaginary line.
Him and John deserved each other.
But Cytotoxic wanted to kill all Muslims. Being open borders and genocidal about the same population makes no sense.
Once all the Muslims are dead, why not have open borders?
I found this gem linked…at H&R? and whom do we find in comments but Cytotoxic.
On Muslims, I always compared his policy to hunting with beaters. You bomb them at home, they run, and the best and brightest are the ones who make it to the West, making them the prime catch you want to keep.
“The anti-immigration rhetoric mostly. Cytotoxic was just as open borders as he was military interventionist.”
Yep, the ideal Hillary supporter.
We could just cut out the middleman and base our immigration policy on Battle Royale.
It’s tempting to say it is just another pose, but the evidence is piling up in favor of the argument that Nick Gillespie is a stupid person.
Uh, that tweet is actually one of Gillespie’s lesser sins. His attempts at debating and “LIBERTARIAN MOMENT!!!1!” cheerleading are a lot worse.
ahem. “Cytotoxic”
#$%& him. 3 times I got to go be part of an intervention – I am sure the Armed Forces could find something for him to do. Weather dude for the Air Force or something.
Air Force golf clubs need mowing too…
If making bold predictions about an election then, after being totally wrong about the out come, disappearing after the event isn’t proof of integrity, I don’t know what is.
This happened before the Great Migration, but whatever happened to Irish?
… all that remains are memories. I remember a time of chaos, ruined dreams, this wasted land. But most of all, I remember the lone truth teller, the man they called John.
Well, that doesn’t answer my question at all, but I did laugh, so kudos!
Not sure. He became the butt of a joke at the old site (“Irish is a racist”) and I thought it was getting a little out of hand, a little rough. Maybe he just got worn out on it and walked?
It was a little worn out, but aren’t a lot of H&R jokes as worn out as Winston’s mom? Irish should’ve known it was all in good fun. But he’s about 30, 31 – being called a racist is Serious Business to his age group. I suspect if it were me or any of the other 40+ year olds, we’d have just owned the joke and moved on.
John isn’t around.
Around what? Fat chicks?
True. He’s even left Reason. I wonder what website comments he’s losing his shit in now…
Did we ever establish that this was him?
That’s his real name. I corresponded with him off-board during the Mary Stack crisis (and so did a few other people.) John denying that was him was the most pathetic of his headfakes.
I miss his mind-reading superpowers.
(not really)
He’s too busy running the country right now.
Didn’t anyone point him here? He was infuriating, but hell so are Scr… ummm … Gilm… …. err .. a bunch of guys who are here …
He kept saying “they didn’t invite me,” conflating us with the Reasonoids email group that was starting up at the same time.
I have so far completely failed to miss him.
*stares at comment for a minute*
Must be that Scrotum guy I see posting on weekends.
I wasnt invited either, I just crashed.
Meh, his signal-to-noise ratio was terrible, but he had some damn good signal amidst all that noise. He was remarkably insightful at times, which made the more frequent times when he went off the rails all the more jarring.
John could throw some good points out when he was calm. The problem is that most of the time he specifically wasn’t, and that’s when his delusions and garbage personality took over.
The guy has two settings, 1 and 11, entirely based on his emotional response to subjects. So he can’t make a coherent and rational argument against, say, Reason’s views on Islam, it has to be that Reason hates and criticizes all other religions in the world while constantly glorifying and justifying Islam. Which isn’t reflective of anything but what goes on in his head.
Don’t worry Scro….
I admit that I was told about the site/invited several times, totally ignored it. Then just showed up one day and accused everyone here of running off and not telling me. One has to keep up their rep as being as ass by any means possible, you know. It’s hard work!
I would cat-butt, then ban him within a week.
Wouldn’t make it a week.
Did IFH disappear too? I know she migrated over here but haven’t noticed her lately.
I wish ifh would post more 🙁
Have not seen John since shortly after this site went live.
He staggered on for a couple of months on Reason, arguing with chemjeff and a new emboldened Tony, and then ghosted.
I love the way the second comment basically agreed with you, and then said you must have been lying when you said it, because, I guess, Trump.
Yeah, that one was hard to follow. Was there some additional context in which it makes more sense?
“this guy’s “Bernie” fueled bullets are on the same level as the Palin fueled bullets of Loughner a few years back”
Still pushing the bull shit NYT Palin inspired Loughner narrative.
Cause it is easier to pretend everyone does it than to admit your side has a problem? That’s why Hitler and the Nazi experiment are a right wing phenom to the communism lovers instead of just another branch of the same toxic collectivist movement…
FacIsm is another branch of socialism. It’s one in which private property still exists, yet the management of the private property is taken over by the government.

Sure, Hitler.
Hey, at least I’m looking to resolve all of this partisan bitterness. You might even say I’m looking for a final solution.

Terror attack in Flint?
The quote you pasted is not from the linked article?
It’s from a tweet somewhere on that page. I think.
On a conf call right now so can’t check. It’s in one of the updates somewhere.
In the article now.
I have one question.
Why would Flint need an ‘International Airport’? I’d have thought ‘Emigrant Processing Facility’ would have been more likely.
If even one plane flies to Canada, they call themselves an International Airport.
Now, a helicopter lifting from the top of an office complex with people hanging on the skids – THAT – I can imagine.
It’s a great airport. I fly out of there all the time. Never had a hassle (or stabbing).
And once you’ve concluded business … you fly BACK to it?
/astounded
And immediately decamp to the east of Flint 😀
You aren’t pawning Flint off on us that easily.
I think we know which country loves the sweet and spicy tang of lead in their drinking water and it isn’t the U. S. of Fuckin’ A.
Do Canucks say their water has a familiar taste of wang to it too?
We prefer radioactive isotopes, thank you very much!
Snobs!
That’s the problem with Canadians. No sense of innovation. With a little effort they could have the best of both worlds.
Radioactive Wangs.
Richmond “International” Airport can’t even say that. Instead, they claim international status because you can connect to an international flight…..which is true of literally every passenger airport. No, I’m not kidding.
The dirt track airport where I grew up could claim that.
Of course, saying they are an international airport probably gets them some state or federal troughs to slop their pig employees at…
they can also sell ham-sandwiches and call them ‘croque monsieur’ and charge $10
Formidable!
Yep, Flathead County International airport in Kalispell, MT, got 1 flight a week from Canada.
Louisville International Airport — You can fly anywhere in the world, as long as you are a package.
For a long while, the only international flights were UPS. I think there are a few to Canada/Mexico now.
I think the official rule is whether it has a customs checkpoint.
Williston, ND, has an international airport too.
Soulin field (KISN) does have customs on call. On the chart they are listed as “AOE” Airport of Entry
Many small airports (much smaller than KISN) near the border have customs on call, you file your eAPIS and call them at least 2 hours before your arrival and they send over an inspector from the local land crossing.
Canada does it much better, you call the 1-800-CANPASS # 2 hours before arrival , and then once you land at an AOE (during business hours) you call the phone# again and they either tell you to meet an inspector, or just clear you on your way by phone.
If you sign up for the CANPASS card, then you can be cleared at all AOE’s 24/7 and also land at more airports that aren’t full AOE’s by phone. The joint Canada/US NEXUS program allows you to clear boats and land crossings quicker but doesn’t help pilots with the US customs side.
Not even that.. if they just aspire to commercial flight from Canada:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sullivan_County_International_Airport
No scheduled service, no customs. They had hoped that gambling would be allowed in the Catskills (late ’80s) and that people would fly in (like they did from Long island to AC).
Must be anther fucking Amish mafia dude…
BAN CANADIANS!
Why did the Dems lose in Georgia? Rachel Maddow does her best Milli Vanilli to explain it.
I’m completely onboard with Democrats pouring money into losing races, if only so I can just have a long list of their failures to point to when they pull this “money in politics has too much influence on voting” garbage.
On one hand, money is speech and voters are rubes who can’t resist the magical powers of spending, which is why we need greater federal controls of campaign finances and corporate political speech.
On the other hand, the weather is Republican, and people are so afraid of rain that they will subject themselves to years of oppression under nazi-white-supremacist regimes out of fear of getting wet.
Clearly the solution here is to simply mandate progressives to permanent positions of power.
Everyone knows what kind of effect rain has on snowflakes, right?
Does rain hit women and minorities hardest when it falls from the sky?
Obviously, it got a Republican elected!
Duh. They don’t like getting their hair wet. Don’t you even racist, bro?
And the joke.
Those of us who aren’t ancient appreciate you oldsplaining it for us.
Those of us who are ancient thank you for not mentioning our threading fail.
So is the nominee for the d governor race the bernie bro?
My wife has finally decided she is interested in concealed carry.
Any suggestions?
Check to see if she’s pulled a policy out on you.
Don’t make fun of her in public was my suggestion but I think yours is better.
They company provided insurance has been enough to make it worth taking me out for more than a decade. I imagine she will wait until just before retirement to maximize the payout.
Same here. I was shocked when I saw how much life insurance they were buying on me. I didn’t tell Mrs. Dean because I was pretty sure being worth more dead than alive was not going to work well for me, but she saw a benefit summary and found out anyway.
Smaller frame hammerless revolver. Ruger LCR, as one example.
Please don’t do this. Small frame revolvers are tough for experienced pistol shooters. Someone new to pistol shooting will find an LCR or J-frame to be thoroughly miserable.
It really depends. How is she planning on carrying it? How confident is she with a gun? Remember that the smaller the gun the more it kicks and the harder it is to shoot. Big guns don’t carry well but they shoot much easier.
I would need more info from you but a good universal suggestion is a smith & wesson shield in 9mm. They have a killer rebate program on them right now. You can get one for like $250 after the rebate.
One thing to watch out for with pistols, is make sure she can comfortably rack the slide. Not to be misogynistic, but a lot of women have trouble with that and prefer revolvers for that reason.
Starting from scratch — no prior experience. There is a local range that has beginner to advanced track of training classes. That’s where we will start.
Not sure if she or I will ever carry. Work doesn’t allow it (and technically doesn’t allow weapons in locked vehicles in the company parking lot).
We will definitely be looking into home protection. We are out in the sticks and 911 response is at least 15 minutes.
We live in Iowa. The current law requires a permit to purchase a handgun, but a concealed carry permit is assumed to be a permit to purchase. Makes a lot of paper work go away for any given purchase. So, the plan is to get the concealed carry permit even if we choose to not carry regularly.
If the local range rents, just go down and talk to the guys there. For a house gun, I’d consider a revolver like a S&W 686 plus, if your wife’s hands can manage the grip, but a lot of it – especially with ‘new shooters’ is having ergonomics that work for you. Ergonomics are less important when you become a regular shooter, because shooters gonna shoot, but if it’s a first gun, you want something that will give a comfortable, positive experience in those early months.
Many ranges will let you handle the guns, and some will also rent models which will be very similar if not the model you are interested in. While the rentals sound expensive, it’s much cheaper in the long run than buying a gun that you don’t like. However. if you do buy a SIG P229 Enhanced Elite Stainless in 9mm and you discover it really isn’t for you, I’ll happily buy it off you if the price is right. (no, I doubt Mrs. Kinnath would enjoy a 229 ‘cos it’s like holding a 2×4)
If home defense is your primary concern you probably want a long gun like a shotgun or rifle. Handguns are great for out and about but they severely lack performance where it counts.
If you want a gun that is great as an all around handgun something like a Glock 19 is my recommendation. 4 inch barrel, 15 round capacity. It would work as both a conceal carry gun and a home defense gun, but it would not be ideal for either. Smaller guns are much easier to carry all day but severely lack capacity and performance for a home invasion. It sounds like carry is a secondary consideration so I would go with something larger like the 19. My personal recommendation is to check out the Sig P320. You can buy it as one size and later change the grip and slide to make it smaller or larger as you see fit without going through the hassle of buying another gun. Granted buying new grips and slides is not terribly cheap but it gives you a great deal of flexibility without having to buy a whole new gun.
This right here. If you’re new to guns, you can’t go wrong with a Glock 19 or a SIG P320 (or maybe a S&W M&P9.)
How big are her hands?
That’s a roundabout way of asking if she’s thicc.
big enough
What were we talking about?
Does she have any arthritis or anything that would prevent her from racking the slide on a handgun?
If she’s got small hands it may limit her carry options. Weak grip will cause failure to feed in some automatics, so may be of benefit to consider how well she can get her hands around the frame.
Work doesn’t allow it (and technically doesn’t allow weapons in locked vehicles in the company parking lot).
There is a no guns sign on the parking lot gate where I work. I guarantee you that there is more than 150 guns out there. If management was interested in enforcing this policy, they would have to fire 60 percent of their work force.
This is one of the factors in deciding to carry.
If you carry, always carry right?
So we would have to leave them in the vehicles. Very little chance of anyone finding out. But getting fired at 60 is not a viable solution either.
Money should be the lowest consideration when purchasing a firearm.
I disagree. Yes there are guns that are shit but in general the brand of gun you buy is actually more important than the price. You can get very expensive 1911s that jam all the time, and very cheap polymer 9mms from Ruger that will run all day.
I think you made my point.
Nuh uh! Lets you and him fight!
1. A gun she can holster. Even if your state permits ‘carry’ in a purse of handbag, is’s a really bad idea. It needs to be on-body.
2. One she chooses. Not you. She might not like that stainless S&W 500 even if you think it makes her look like Selene from “Underworld”
3. One that she finds comfortable to fire, rather than one that’ll definitely put a bad guy on his ass. She needs to be able to WANT to practice with it
I’m confused as to why you consider this a negative.
Wait a minute… a gun can do that?!
Sadly not. But it can make them look like Aeon Flux.
For the lady that has everything….
Id like one for the wife to drive on the roads around here. Just hope she doesn’t get really mad at me or anything.
You need to buy one of these to avoid her…
They’ve actually got enough juice to hit highway speeds, problem is you’ll more than likely throw a track if you’re going over 50.
How much experience does she have with firearms?
Not much: https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/model-43-c or https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/model-642-ls-ladysmith
Competent with autos: https://www.sigsauer.com/store/p938-blackwood-micro-compact.html
From what I have been reading, I am leaning towards Sig Sauer P238, P938, 1911 Ultra Compact, 1911 Compact.
The local range carries Sig Sauer and I think all of these can be rented.
I’m guessing the P938 is the best solution for her, but we’ll have to get something into her hands to start with.
I have a female friend at the range – 5ft 7in maybe 160lb who bought a 938 a few weeks ago and loves it. It’s a bit small for me, but it’s well made and shoots all kinds of brands of ammo.
*PERSONALLY* I’d go SIG rather than Kimber. If your local store is big on SIGs, don’t ignore the 250, and maybe more so, the 320. I’m vocally anti-1911 through a combination of ignorance, pig-headedness but also experience, and I find the simplicity of the 250 and the 320’s mechanisms far more comforting, but SIG build a good gun, no matter what the model (ixnay on the Mosquito, OK guys?)
The 250 is officially out of production. Get a 320. I have one as my daily carry. Absolutely fantastic.
I vouch for the 320. And then now have the compact version which is petite and very good for the ladies. Note to any gents that own one, I am not disparaging your man creds if you have one. To each their own..
Also, the mosquito wasn’t actually made by Sig, they just stuck their logo on it which is why it was so terrible.
And the P238 and P938 are basically redesigned 1911s from what I have read.
Yeah, and while they’re well made, the engineering of the 1911 action is complex. Kimbers, the same. Sadly, recent build quality of Kimbers is alleged to have declined, hence my bias toward SIG. Plus, I’m a Eurotard.
I own and shoot the evolved version of a 1911, the Browning Hi Power.
Hate to break it to you, but Sig is officially as American as breast implants now.
Guns and titties are American…
Purchase a traditional Indonesian karambit and your wife can use it as a hair pin. When in danger, she can pull it out of her hair and slice motherfuckers’ throats.
Awesome
It’s a traditional technique in Indo-Malay women’s martial arts. Regardless of whether or not she carries a firearm, she should always have at push knife or something similar on her person. Just a simple, beginner-level force multiplier.
Do you even Kali, brah?
Same ancestor.
Hardest thing I’ve tried to learn in years.
But will it keel?
That is a fun show.
I love it, even more now that it has become a compromise show for the wife. She’s actually suggested we might commission an blade or two for the mantle.
For some reason, Google decided to attempt to translate ‘karambit’. In Magyar, it means “faculty mbits”.
And in welsh, it’s ‘carambwtau’.
Cyllell crwm, ydych yn dwp Sais.
I recently took a short defensive knife course, and there were some ladies there who could straight ruin your day in a standing grapple.
I don’t know much of anything about the Karambit, but any kind of small fixed-blade knife would probably come in real handy in an up-close self-defense situation.
9mm. Which one depends on which one she prefers in her hand/to carry. Go to a good gun store and let her handle some guns.
For home defense, I would recommend a shotgun IF IF IF she is comfortable shooting one.
Shotgun over an AR? How tall is she.
From years of reading you guys and a lot of websites recently (in no particular order):
– The best pistol to carry is the one you will actually carry.
– The best pistol to shoot is one you will actually practice with.
– Placement is more important caliber.
– The best bullet is the one that fits in the pistol you will practice with so you can hit the target you are shooting at while in a stressful situation.
Anything else?
That’s basically it right there. Philosophically I’d add you can’t stop an undetected threat and you can’t miss fast enough to stop a threat once detected.
That is a fair point, but I will add the caveat that you should not consider any caliber below 380, and realistically 9mm should be your floor. 32 and below is absolute garbage unless you or her have some medical condition preventing you from using anything larger.
I’ve never understood why people actually carry .380 when they could just carry 9. Is concealing the firearm internally a requirement?
Well, if you’re small-framed, it makes some sense.
The thing is that I’ve yet to find anyone who is gonna stand 21 feet away from anyone and say – “oh, a 380? hahahah. Shoot me, sucker!.”
Just as 9mm ammo has become a really effective defensive round over the last couple of decades, the 380 has too, and for short range (euphamistically called”self-defense range”) it’s a respectable round if you have hollowpoints, So it’s a valid option, with its own tradeoffs.
The thing is the introduction of a huge selection of gerbil 9mms (just a bit bigger than mouse guns). If I really had to carry a small, highly concealable automatic, I’d probably go for a 380 like a PPK or a Kimber, rather than a Ruger LC9 because I have hands like hams, and I want my ring finger to fit on the grip.
Granted, it did take the market a while to produce similarly sized 9mm pistols. If you wanted to go small 380 was the only option for quite a while. Point taken though. From a logistical standpoint I personally keep standardized on ammo and there is better data out there on 9mm performance.
I’ll also add it is super annoying having to pull .380 brass out of my 9 brass after range time.
I’m a big fat guy. I can hide an SP01 under these handles, so I have no need of a 380.
I really really like my SP01, I’d carry it more but for my only gripe: the skinny slide makes it harder to grip and rip than my Sig.
I had mine pimped out by CGW. It rocks.
I got talked into a Ruger LCP. If I had it to do over, I’d shop around more. Don’t really like it. It carries well, will do the job intended, but I dislike the long hard trigger pull and the lack of a safety. I’d probably look hard at the PPK.
Take a look at the (don’t laugh) Remington R380. It’s a reworking of the Rohrbaugh. I was impressed. It’s an improvement on the original.
I have 3 PPKs. Stainless, blue steel, and the rare aluminum frame. 380auto is ok, hits harder than you would guess by looking at the cartridge. Decent capacity, easy to carry and shoots nice. You cant really go wrong with a PPK.
The only thing worse than reloading 380 is hand loading 25 autos but they sure are fun to shoot.
Seen positive reviews on the Sig Sauer V Crown 380 and 9mm rounds.
30-06 would like a word, Vhyrus.
(Yes yes, I know you’re talking about handgun rounds, and most likely the inferior rounds designed for pistols instead of revolvers. Just one of my bugaboos, caliber alone is a useless measurement.)
Everything below 5″/38 caliber is garbage!
I have a .32 mag that punches through 55 gallon drums at 100 yards and the bullet doesnt even slow down. You should try one Vhyrus, it’s pretty impressive. If S&W made a six shot .32 mag in J frame revolver I would buy one in a second.
http://www.ruger-firearms.com/products/newModelSingleSixSingleSeven/specSheets/8161.html
One problem: The wavelength of the sound of a gun is largely determined by barrel diameter. .32’s and .30 carbines make the awfullest crack. It’s like a nail in the ear. Wear hearing protection.
S&W 632, dude.
Ruger also makes the LCR and GP100 in .327 magnum, if you want a smaller double action revolver.
The single seven is fantastic though, mine is one of my favorites.
There’s a lot of truth in that.
The best defense weapon is the one you have with you when attacked.
That’s true for long guns too. If you’re talking about protection in-house, the suggestion about shotgun is highly relevant, and somewhat dependent on your state’s legal system. For example, if you’re in a state that requires you to retreat from a threat where possible, identify a room to retreat to, and plan around that, and get a shotgun. No matter what the laws are, you will never be good enough at ‘room clearing’ to justify the danger and effort.
If you’re inclined towards pistol, you seem to primarily want this for household defense, you *could* go for a heavier pistol which usually easier to shoot well, and much nicer to practice with. Someone above recommended a Ruger LCR which is a great carry piece, but sucks, sucks, sucks to practice with on the range unless you’ve got smaller hands than Donald Trump.
Someone? I have a name damnit! Next Saint David Day I’m going up to Connecticut and pelting you with leeks.
My carry is a 9. My “bedside” handgun is a high-capacity .45. The .45 is way more fun to shoot, and not just because you get 15 shots before you have to reload.
My shotguns are all set up for wing-shooting (long barrels being the main thing), so I prefer the handgun for indoor sports.
Not to shoot a dead horse, but get guns you are comfortable with and willing to use and practice with. Everything else is secondary.
Euphemism overload *self destructs*
Thanks for the inputs
Obviously wasn’t only the rain which caused wonder boy Ossoff to lose. Someone posted yesterday, I think it was WaPo, that they have a fried who was working the southern part of the 6th district and that some white dudes were driving around in black SUVs stealing voting machines. People were running around looking to vote, but the machines had been stolen. Another poster then wrote something like ‘Is that true, did anyone get these guys on camera?’. So he said ‘They tried, but the white guys attacked them and stole their cell phones.’. This person was completely serious. And then someone else said the guys in the black SUVs were obviously the Russians who work for Handel. I WISH I was making this up. The severe form of TDS that plagues DU has went virulent and is spreading like wildfire.
Denial is not just a river in Egypt…
I refuse to believe anyone could sincerely believe something that stupid.
Really? You should know by now, there is no peak derp.
Whew, those comments. Man we are fucked.
I think that top comment is a troll. Their screen name is literally ‘Poverty Pimp’.
Well, that’s the thing about it, you don’t need to make it up. Just wait for it to flow like a river.
So…rain and russians.
I strongly encourage them to stick with this strategy. It’s bound to work sooner or later.
Sounds like the Russians have gotten to all of you too.
*jots names down on extremely long list*
The Russians used their super secret Russian rain machine to make it rain. Everyone knows this.
Russians make it rain rubles.
People were running around looking to vote, but the machines had been stolen.
OF course, the only way this isn’t big news is if the media covers it up. And they totes would cover up something like this to protect Republicans. Naturally, the people running the voting precincts would have no objection to having their machines stolen, nor would the cops who provide security for voting precincts.
I mean what are you going to do when Vlad, Igor, and Boris get out of their black SUV with their kalashnikovs? ‘Where’s the machines, comrades? You better be giving up the machines or else you get it. And you little doggy too!’. Russians, man.
I don’t believe my local polling station has any police presence on election day.
I’ve never been to one that didn’t have at least one cop hanging around. Except the one in rural Wisconsin, I think.
Was it the Duke boys? Were Ennis and Roscoe chasing them down a dirt road?
At the place i vote there is usually 20 machines.
The Russians have very large SUVs.
Nobody needs 20 voting machines.
We vote on giant (probably A3-sized) card stock ballots that have SAT-type bubbles, except that the bubbles are next to the candidates’ names so it’s obvious which bubble to fill in. The ballots are then fed in to an electronic vote counter, but the actual physical ballots would still be there if hand counting were necessary.
Early reports, not sure who this outfit is, etc., but there are reports of a cop stabbed at an airport in Michigan by a guy shouting “Allahu Akbar”.
And, already posted above.
Shouts Allahu Akbar, headline calls it possible terror attack. You’re being a bit overly cautious there fellas.
He meant to shout Bernie Ackbar!, but he slipped up and it came out wrong.
I think it was Admiral Ackbar
IT’S A TRAP!
ALOHA SNACKBAR!
So long as they’ve got those sweet maui onion chips I’m in. That and a bikini blonde.
