TW: BuzzFeed
Still, a decent analysis that Trump didn’t post a gif taken from Reddit:
https://www.buzzfeed.com/ryanhatesthis/how-a-random-gif-from-reddit-probably-ended-up-on-president
So basically CNN doxxed and threatened the person who took credit for it, not the person who made it.
The differences aren’t super-technical and easy to miss, either – Trump’s is longer, has sound, and has the bigger aspect ratio. And, the differences were posted in the comments to the reddit gif.
Crackerjack reporting there, CNN.
CNN also had this little gem:
http://thefederalist.com/2017/07/05/cnn-just-published-a-fake-quote-from-abraham-lincoln/
you know what else of Trump’s is longer, has sound and a bigger aspect ratio?
We got nothin’.

This is so exciting!

#CNNBlackmail was trending until Twitter killed it.
I’m going to need to stop by the store for popcorn after work.
Twitter killed that hashtag? What the fuck is wrong with these people?
For some reason they want to take the brunt of Autism Grenade in place of CNN?
I think there’s plenty of Autism Grenades to go around.
Facebook does it too. Usually anytime something gets trending that isn’t explicitly far left, they end up nuking it.
It’s usually hours late, after it’s been up around the top.
Should be safe for work.
I haven’t tried using #CNNBlackmail.
That’s the big one. There are a bunch of alternative ones people have created.
So you can’t use #CNNBlackmail any longer?
no you can, it has been ignored for the “trending” list that Twitter has.
You can still enter it, but it got removed from trending and won’t autocomplete anymore.
They removed it from the “trending” sidebar, even though it’s probably in the top 5 hashtags today,
No, it’s not dead at all, they basically censored it from the trending list. It’s really #1 by a long shot.
Twitter routinely kills hashtags if they go against the leftist grain. Shockingly, companies with a personnel pool consisting largely of Bay Aryans act like they’re run by Bay Aryans.
Bay Aryans
Awesome. Stolen.
http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bay%20aryan
Twitter shouldn’t be saying which hashtags are “fake news”.
Google “CNN Fake News” and check the number of hits – no wonder the Europeans are suing.
“#CNNBlackmail was trending until Twitter killed it.”
Yeah, they apparently manually removed it. But the thing is still getting thousands of tweets an hour.
I mean removed it from the trending list, it’s still there.
Twitter is being called out for it.
Is the Left completely out of masks?
I think the mask has been completely off since Nov 8, 2016.

everybody piling on. this is really awesome.
This whole story is one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. Who fucking cares if someone makes a gif? Trump is an anomaly in that he’s more well-versed in internet culture than all our past presidents, but I can’t believe that these news sources—many of whom are staffed by people my age, who have spent half our lives on the internet and have been sharing gifs ourselves for years—are acting like there’s some kind of deeper meaning to this gif. All this breathless reporting about it like it’s something deeper/more insidious than all the other inane gifs floating around the internet. “Trump’s threatening violence by sharing this”, “the guy was threatening violence by making it”, no?? He’s not and you all know it! Everyone on the planet knows that gif was hyperbolic and supposed to be funny. That CNN turned it into this… Like, I know they’re insane, but this is more insane than I ever would have predicted.
They’re not just saying there’s “some kind of deeper meaning,” they’re shrieking that it’s an open call to murder journalists–and that’s Time Magazine right there–and other political operatives masquerading as journalists like @pdacosta are howling that news organizations are having to spend more on security because of Trump’s “threats” towards them, etc., etc., etc.
Their fellow travelers are scoffing at doubling down and are going for expontentials.
At least someone at the Vatican knows how to have a good time.

I hate everybody involved in this CNN shit right now. I hate CNN. I hate that CNN expects anyone to believe that threatening line means anything other than exactly what it said. I hate that asshole Andrew Kaczynski. I’ve hated him for years since he was the ringleader for that bullshit “Has Justine landed yet” shit. I hate Mike Cernovich. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend, he’s just my enemy’s enemy.
Well now a slightly larger portion of the internet is right there with you.
It’s stupid, the only amusing thing to (hopefully) come out of it will be the 4chan response.
The Meme Jihad has been declared. There are some really good ones already.
Per your suggestion, I tried my hand at meme making
Nice!
I like it!
Sweet.
I wonder if someone come up with a good CNN/ERMAHGERD mashup yet?
ERMAHGERD is my favorite of all time.
not yet?
4chan and Anonymous are already in the middle of the shit show.
And apparently, Buzzfeed has now declared war on Reddit and 4chan. This is really getting good, lol.
Assuming you’re talking about the screenshot of the Facebook post, apparently that’s fake.
I wouldn’t have seen a FB posts, haven’t been there is nearly 10 years.
Oh Jesus, this is going to be fucking hilarious. 4chan can make someone’s life a living hell if they really want to, and it’s pretty hard to bust individual 4chan users. I wouldn’t be surprised if Buzzfeed or CNN get their homepages hacked and defaced in the next couple weeks.
Why Cernovich? Curious.
Cernovich is a massive dumbass in general, he’s a broken clock is right twice a day kind of guy. Same thing with Jack Posobiec. When Richard Spencer calls you uncultured swine and I agree with him you’ve done fucked up.

And the first schism of the MAMA movement begins, the radicals vs. the moderates.
Man, I don’t remember that scene from Appleseed at all… guess I need to go back and watch it again.
I hate Mike Cernovich. The enemy of my enemy is not my friend, he’s just my enemy’s enemy.
My favourite Mike Cernovich tweet is about how he apparently thinks that slowdown on his computer while writing articles about Muslims is caused by the government to threaten him. I’m serious.
That’s more a reason to pity him than hate him.
Oh, I don’t hate him like JB does. I see him more as a dumbass puppy pissing in its own face. It can’t help itself, it’s just its nature.
I concur. Even ff you want tin-foil-hattery slant to you internet commentary, there are better sources.
My favorite Cernovich tweet is him bragging about going to the gym with stinky period blood still on him. I took a look and I guess he’s realized how that came off, because he’s deleted it.
OMFG that is foul.
Molyneux keeps interviewing him.
Is he still on the “dump your family and friends if they don’t become libertarian?

AKA Southern Alabama?
East of Tallahassee is South Georgia. West of there is Eastern Alabama.
That’s LA – Lower Alabama.
When I lived down there (Orange Beach in AL and Pensacola), I met a woman on a job site who asked me where I was from. I said I was from Virginia. She says “I knew you was a Yankee!” I protested – how am I a Yankee if I’m from Virginia?? She says “Anyone from north of 10 is a Yankee.”
My Texan college roommate liked to say Virginia isn’t the “real south”.
IT CONTAINED THE CAPITAL OFTHE FUCKING CONFEDERACY. FFS.
Kinda stupid they put it so close to the Northern capital, when you think about it. In Texas, it might’ve taken longer to lose.
Eh, no Virginia, no secession, because of its wealth and influence, so they HAD to keep them sweet and recognize where the power lay.
It made sense politically. Militarily, Richmond was a clusterfuck to defend. They had to pour resources into one region that was squarely in range of the Union supply lines.
That’s almost as stupid as people flying the Stars and Bars in New York (state) and Pennsylvania. I see it occasionally in Maryland, which was at least a border state and on the south side of the Mason-Dixon line, but FFS New York?
Kids do it here, as well. Funny as hell, actually.
Virginia is in Alabama?
I have been given that label, despite my being from AZ.
Heh, AZ yankees. I’d openly laugh back at anyone saying that.

Sort of a bad PR move though, right? I mean if I was the polish manufacturer that was paying her to be my spokesmodel, I’d like to at least get the name of my company mentioned.
Sure, I’ll grant you that it might be quibbling because I was devoting all my brain cells to ocular processing and even if you mentioned the polish company’s name, I wouldn’t have remembered it.
And I don’t even want to know what part of her body she puts the polish on to make it smooth and shiny.
If you read the surrounding text (I know, it’s hard to notice), you get the background on who she is and only Polish manufacturers involved are her parents.
In other important information, she’s newly single and quite, quite feisty
And I don’t even want to know what part of her body she puts the polish on to make it smooth and shiny.
WTF is wrong with you? She appears to be smooth and shiny everywhere.
I want the job to be the polish applicator.

Not blackmail, we’re just concerned for his safety. Totally cool.
In a statement, Matt Dornic, a spokesman for the network, said that “CNN decided not to publish the name of the Reddit user out of concern for his safety,” and that “any assertion that the network blackmailed or coerced him is false.”
I like the explicit admission that doxxing this guy to the progressive lynch mob might be problematic.
“But- let’s say… purely speculation, mind you… that we felt you had reneged on our agreement, and your name, phone number and home address somehow found its way into the public sphere. That could have adverse consequences for, don’t you agree?”
Their legal department must be freaking out about now. I wonder how many people at CNN will decide to spend more time with their families…
It reminds me of the Gawker Trial, These journos dig themselves into holes, because they think that they can be less than honest and have it not bite them in the ass.
Seriously the best lesson a lawyer gave me was this:
“When you’re in trouble, take your coffee and Shut the full cup”
It’s fake news all the way down.
Well, I’m sorry, CNN, but publicly stating that you didn’t out him yet, but you reserve the right to out him if he doesn’t stop making fun of you, is blackmail. Maybe your most dumbed down regular viewer believe that, but no one else is that dumb.
Too bad that’s not what their story says.
How to reconcile “We’ll out you if you do this again” with “we’re concerned for your safety” is an exercise for the reader. But, CNN being utterly tone-deaf, apparently they didn’t realize that this makes the case against them for coercion and violation of civil rights even stronger. Now they can’t say that they thought outing him would actually do him any harm, because they just said that’s why they haven’t outed him, yet.
How to reconcile “We’ll out you if you do this again” with “we’re concerned for your safety”

Razorfist’s take on the whole CNN thing.
The only thing that drives me into fits of rage are these concern-trolling, virtue signalling asshat Republicans. That cunt talking about his daughters is hilarious. So after multiple drug addicts, drunks, sex fiends and other scum populated the White House it’s only Trump tweeting a meme that diminishes the legitimacy of their office in his daughter’s eyes. Oh, and apparently this guy voted to drop Obamacare when Obama would veto it, but now isn’t willing to. Maybe your daughter should be more concerned about why her father is a scumbag lying coward?
Maybe your daughter should be more concerned about why her father is a scumbag lying coward?
I’m sure she already knows.
Posting GIFs, beyond the pale. Bombing people unnecessarily, totes cool.
Nothing says presidential like droning US citizens.
Besides Nancy Reagan and Betty Ford, who was a drug addict?
John Kennedy.
Kennedy, amphetamines, various other 19th century Presidents for treatment, Washington is believed to have excessively used an opiate variant to treat his tooth pain.
This is, of course, as defined by the stuff they used in office. If we count the stuff from before (and broadly defined it in a way I’m sure Mr. RINO would approve of) Obama, Bush and Clinton don’t come off so great with their pot and cocaine use either.

They just need to hang on till their cash for awhile. You wouldn’t believe what Confederate cash is worth these days
We can still buy Tim’s with it. Try that with your fucking Zim bucks!
yep. it’s been a land-grabbing murderhole for the established farmers for years. now it’s about to be dialed up to 11.
So in a decade are we going to be treated to news of the food crisis in Africa, or will Zimbabwe have stabilized enough by then to start exporting food again?
Sort of sounds like the logical end to that cultural appropriation racket. “That’s not your land! You didn’t build that! Your family ripped it away from the native people hundreds of ago, time to give it back!” At least that’s how I understand it.
“You didn’t take it from anyone, the people we’re giving it to didn’t have it taken from them, you know how to farm it, they don’t, but we’re going to take it from you and give it to them in the name of justice”

Sorry, I have been assured that people are way smarter today than the barbarian morons of the past. Nice try though.
Have we figured out Greek Fire yet? That is what I’m looking for.
Can’t you just be satisfied with Napalm?
pffft, anyone can make napalm. No cachet there.
Maybe if you had to childproof your house, you would understand why napalm is problematic
Napalm sticks to little children,
All the Children of the world…
Napalm, napalm, sticks like glue,
Sticks to moms and their babies too
We probably never will, because we have some descriptions of effects of it that people have replicated, but exact composition has been lost, so we can’t be 100% sure that this particular compound you can spray and it doesn’t get put out by water is the correct one.
I actually found a recipe for greek fire published by either plato or aristotle (I want to say plato).
You got a source on that? It’s a pretty common habit in Middle and Renaissance literature to ‘ghost-write’ by claiming to be Plato or Aristotle.
It’s especially odd considering Greek fire was at Byzantine (ok Pan, Eastern Roman Empire, don’t hit me!) thing, not classical Greek.
It was in one of the collected works. My teacher in high school mentioned greek fire once and I just randomly picked up a collected works off the shelf at a library and there was a reference to greek fire. It was like 20 years ago so there’s no way I could tell you which book.
BTW, CNN also tweeted a fake Lincoln quote for the 4th of July.
OK, it took a bit of work, but I finally found a 100% genuine Lincoln quote.
Thought that link was going to be Lincoln acting all Presidential in that WKUK skit.
Where ya going, skinny?
Where’s that fat piece of shit going?
Soaked with the blood of Christians, the Saints preserve it.
Well at least the myths of Christians being fed to lions in the Colosseum ensured that it was never torn down.
I keep hoping they’ll re-open it for scale naval combat.
If you live in a city with a population above 500K, you may already be familiar with the monthly virtue signaling exercise known as Critical Mass. I’m actually surprised that something like this hadn’t happened much sooner.
http://www.thechainlink.org/forum/topics/gun-pulled-on-critical-mass-riders-tonight
According to the comments a bunch of the cyclists sat on the hood of dude’s car. Pulling a firearm is way too hotheaded in my opinion, but I can’t say I’d be above introducing some kneecaps to a tire iron if I ever found myself in his situation.
Just drive off and if you run some people over, too bad so sad?
Chicago, so it was unlikely a CCW situation. The comments are hilarious.
What? Being complete assholes to the general public doesn’t win them over to your cause? You don’t say.
But isn’t that the strategy the Democrats have taken after their recent losses?
As I’ve said before, I like biking around and some drivers are complete assholes. However, the biggest impediment to solving biking issues are these asshole bicycle activists.
As I’ve said before, I like biking around and some drivers are complete assholes. However, the biggest impediment to solving biking issues are these asshole bicycle activists.
I actually really like CicLAvia for that. They make it about community involvement, work to get local businesses to participate and get a shit-ton of foot traffic, and people come with strollers, unicycles skateboards or whatever instead of it being a “cyclist” event. It gives the whole thing a way different vibe.
fucking cyclists.
Ooh, races of people involved* make for some baaaaaad optics…
As a non-driving pedestrian, I’m on the side of drivers when it comes to CM. Fuck those assholes!
*yes, I’m racistly assuming bulk of CM is as white as a Bernie Sanders rally
As a non-driving pedestrian, I’m on the side of drivers when it comes to CM. Fuck those assholes!
I tend to agree. At least a subset of bicyclists think the virtue signaling of their bikes give them license to be complete assholes. They want drivers to look out for them and respect them. But, they don’t see any need to reciprocate for pedestrians. These are the assholes who think it is their God-given right to ride on the sidewalk (even yelling at pedestrians for not getting out of their way), ride the wrong way up a one-way street, speed cross against lights, or turn when pedestrians are crossing the street. This sort seems to be unduly represented within CM.
It isn’t? Where is the justification for prior restraint?
Seriously, there’s an entire country called Japan where people regularly ride their bikes on sidewalks and nothing especially bad happens.
Sure, but we’re not talking about laws, we’re talking about “god given rights” which I’m pretty sure libertarians consider different from license under law?
I re-iterate, “where is the justification for prior restraint?”
Presumably it’s some sort of utilitarian “public safety” argument, which stipulates that the gain from people not being injured by bicycle/pedestrian collisions is greater than the cost to society from not allowing bicycles to ride on the sidewalk. Presumably we’d also have to count in the increased danger to cyclists from being in the roadway, and then figure out how the difference in risk created when bicycles cross the roadway from the sidewalk.
I’m pretty sure we’ve done just about none of the above, and decided to ban bicycles on sidewalks due to essentially arbitrary reasons. People in Japan didn’t do that, and as far as I can tell, it went fine for them.
Similarly, people are able to drink out of open containers in public in most OECD countries, and the world doesn’t come to an end. Apparently Americans are different, and need more prior restraint, or something?
I’m just pointing out our 3 felonies a day situation.
“Man is born free, and everywhere he is in chains.”
Okay. Can I drive my car on the sidewalk? If not, why a bike and not a car?
I am blissfully unaware of this, but let a motherfucker sit on my hood and see what happens. I won’t pull a gun but I sure as shit will start rolling along.
Louisiana has a ‘its ok to shoot carjackers’ law
There was a bunch of (mostly faux, imo) outrage in Bay Area rags a while back when a critical mass biker attacked a car with his bike lock.

Read that story and not get pissed at the slaver attitudes. Even though I think it is sort of funny that an Arts foundation is getting fucked by the same nimbyism that they probably endorse in any other case.
And the residents are worried about kilns that those dang artists will use
He said his back deck is about 30 feet from the building and believes his family and neighbors will be exposed to “very toxic emissions.”
Um, Sean? You bought a house 30 feet away from a commercial area. Move to Lakeville you putz.
He’s just mad because it used to be a fire station and now he doesn’t get to watch those firemen get all soapy washing the firetrucks before playfully hosing each other off.
STOP IT! YOU’RE GETTING
JESSEME ALL EXCITED!I was going to be tasteful about this, but yeah.
Artists are expert tax-money sponges. What are the odds that a large portion of the money to buy that building and the equipment came directly from some kind of government grant?
The answer to your question is 100%.
The more interesting question is how big of a portion was that grant? (start at 75% and go up from there).
Why the GOP doesn’t put an end to this grant shit is beyond me. First you give shit tons of money to various lefty groups. Those lefty groups then scream bloody murder about the need to give them even more money.
Why not some simple rule, like any group that has hired a lobbyist (or in kind contributions) is not eligible for grant money?
I don’t remember the part of the Constitution that says people’s money can be collected and then given away to artists and carnies. And I’m pretty sure none of the state constitutions enumerate a power like this either. Except maybe California, nothing they do will surprise me.
So let’s make your rule more simple: No grants. Ever.

I am loving the Twitter today. Loving it.
Me too. Makes me glad I remembered my password. I hadn’t used it in a while.
That’s what I do, too. Use it OCD-style for few weeks… don’t log in at all for a few weeks… Come back, have to reset the password… Lol.
So a new Florida law requires school districts to share state money with charter schools, especially in areas where the public schools suck.
Local school board says that will take too much money away from their students, then is going to spend a shitload of money to sue the state over it. http://www.sun-sentinel.com/local/broward/fl-broward-sues-florida-department-of-education-20170705-story.html
(Disclaimer: My kid is in a charter school in the county in question)
You know who is doing a wild happy dance right now? Idiot NYT chick who accused that pilot of being drunk because of a holding pattern over NY.
Best day to fuck up as a journalist.
She’s probably buying everyone at CNN cosmos as we speak. “Thanks, guys! I owe you a solid.”
Why is that? Was he actually drunk? My god that would be hilarious.
No, she saw a standard approach and, being completely ignorant of everything involved, but not intelligent enough to keep her mouth shut, decided to accuse the pilot of being drunk. When called out with evidence, she doubled down and started calling people with actual piloting and ATC experience who corrected her trolls. That was the last I saw before she locked her Twitter.
At one point she even insisted that said trolls were being paid to mess with her.
Like, get over yourself, sister; you’re sincerely not that important.
I am reporting you to CNN for threatening a reporter, now we’ll find out who you really are Riven, if that is your real name!
Fun fact–when Mr. Riven and I got married, I very seriously thought about changing my slave-name to Riven. Because why the hell not?
I still think about changing it sometimes, just for fun.
I’m sure Mr. Myst would be very disappointed.
Myst! *rubs chin* Been a long time since someone asked me if this name was a reference to that (it’s not). Nowadays, folks mostly think League of Legends.
It’s actually nerdier than either–first name of the first character I ever rolled in D&D.
She also accused the ATC people directing the pilot of being drunk.
No, it’s one of those ‘idiot journalists think they know better than every expert they talk to and refuse to back down and admit they’re wrong’ scenarios. Last I checked she was claiming that because everyone was paying attention to her she was really right. Theatre majors man.

This pretty much sums it up.
Hilarious!
She has a bright future at the NYT with the perfect qualifications to report on gun control, firearms, and 2nd Amendment issues.
If by “doing a happy dance” you mean “continuing to be a moron”, then yes.
I don’t know if we should be happy for her. It was a valuable lesson not learned…
We can at least be entertained by it, right?
Oh for sure we can be happy about it, just not happy for her.
Because CNN decided to pull a “hold my beer” moment, and everyone forgot about her?
Précisément, mon ami!
Hey everyone, look at all the hicks in northeastern California that hate Obamacare but love it and are now welfare queens and are too stupid to understand what’s best for them. Bonus: Corporation for Public Broadcasting gives NPR money, in turn NPR lets you know about all the amazing miracle works that the PPACA is responsible for with no illustration of any of the drawbacks.
I heard that on the radio driving home (don’t judge, I like to hear what the other side is thinking).
The thing i don’t get with NPR, is that they do commercials anyway- why the fuck are we funding them? They’re not unbiased and they have financial interests.
I heard it too, don’t judge. Precisely my thought. Government funding propaganda to perpetuate its growth.
Someone in the morning links said this should be a video.
Well, a few hours later…
It were I.
Haha, sweet!
Man, summer has landed on us with all four feet. It must be REALLY hot in Billings, huh, Riven.
It’s stupidly hot. The AC is out in my pigmobile and I’m not looking forward to the triple-digit temperature ride home through construction.
Summer?? We only have two seasons here in the last best place–winter and road construction.
Waitaminit — you live in Alberta?!?
*sheepishly raises hand*
Oh, guys, I know this waaayyy out of my wheelhouse but I’ve considered submitting an article.
The topics: James Madison, The Federalist Papers, and the argument that we as a nation have become grossly underrepresented in Congress over the last 100 odd years.
My (VERY)rough draft so far puts forth the argument that lobbyists gain an increasingly over-influential voice in government the greater the amount of people represented in a congressional district; resulting* in a corporatist, litigious, unbalanced climate that can afford to ignore individual liberties on a much wider scale.
* +12 plus other negative results I’m too lazy to type out*
I would propose expanding the House to at least meet the roughly 200k people represented when the House was last increased; with the caveat that many layers of bureaucratic alphabet agencies be reduced in scale or removed entirely, and have an appointed member of the House assigned the task of directing the agency. Said House member would also have to recuse themselves of any vote that would directly affect the agency in question.
I’m sure there’s several holes in this premise, but I’m going to spend several weeks working on it and (roughly)make it anyway. So, any source material you guys are familiar with that pertains to the topic would be greatly appreciated.
Federalist and andtifederalist papers. Theres a biography of jefferson that I read recently, can’t think of the author. I will look on the bookshelf when i get home.
I’ve been skimming the Federalist Papers again for the first time in a decade or so.
Madison’s argument that the people can only be properly represented by a defacto local with close ties to their community really appealed to me. So does the idea of the dispersal of power across as wide a plain as possible.
The idea that our population has roughly doubled since the last time we’ve added House members has become increasingly distressing to me.
More representation does make me think we might get a third party in there. or at least more people like Paul, Massie, and Amash.
Agreed. As many people here have mentioned recently, there’s a huge disconnect between the general ideals and political beliefs between the eastern/rual residents of Oregon and those who live within the Portland area, yet the urban residents hold nearly all the power within the state. I believe that applies far too often across all states.
Pockets of “extremist”, in all forms, good or ill, deserve to be represented in the government forced that is forced upon them.
If you don’t like what they say, make a better argument. If your argument fails, work harder or find somebody more intelligent than you who’s capable of persuading the public to your point of view and regurgitate their words. If that still fails and your chicken little doomsday scenario fails to pass, maybe rethink your stance on the matter.
‘The idea that our population has roughly doubled since the last time we’ve added House members…’
*fact checks*
Christ! More than tripled?!
I have seen very few people make the connection that more populous districts = increased value to gerrymandering. Then again, I’ve seen very few people who know that there are 435 members of the House, never mind that the number has been fixed since the early 1910s.
‘I have seen very few people make the connection that more populous districts = increased value to gerrymandering.’
And that’s just sad. Even little ol’ me understands the concept that the greater the number people represented by a single person, the less likely that person will be concerned about your individual well being.
Congressional districts are based on population. There has been negative population growth in fly-over country, and positive population growth in coastal cities.
So rural districts would become geographically bigger, while more districts would be shoehorned into cities. Wouldn’t an expansion of House seats result in more representation for the free-shit brigade?
Possibly. I’m sure it would increase the overall representation of the FSB, but I don’t think it would skew the percentage in Congress, at least for the first few election cycles.
I also hesitate to automatically assume that even a deep blue city would elect progressives across the board. We both know that would more than likely be the case but not all communities hold the same value system. Even those within close proximity of each other.
Like I said, I’m still fleshing out my argument and am still a few weeks away from feeling comfortable about submitting anything.
P.S. I’d also argue that expanding the House may be the best, if not the only way for there to ever be a viable third or fourth party in Congress capable of keeping the Republicans and Democrats even remotely principled by forcing them to join coalitions.
I’d read that.
The Apportionment Act of 1911 would be its greatest obstacle. From everything I’ve read so far, the size of Congress is completely at the discretion of Congress and the Apportionment Act is perfectly legal. :/
Keep the stuff about representation and federalist papers, I would cut out remove this part: “with the caveat that many layers of bureaucratic alphabet agencies be reduced in scale or removed entirely, and have an appointed member of the House assigned the task of directing the agency. Said House member would also have to recuse themselves of any vote that would directly affect the agency in question.”
It may or may not be a good idea, but I feel it is unrelated to the main body of your thesis: We are poorly represented compared to years past.
Fair enough.
I probably added that bit because I realize that the idea of adding members to the federal government, even if temporary, will probably be a hard sell to this crowd.
I get the feeling the counter argument without that stipulation would be that we very well may disperse the power an individual member of congress, but still grow the size of the state by creating many more corrupt little fiefdoms. Does that make any sense?
Sorry, it’s bowl 30 and I’m losing mental steam pretty damn quickly.
‘I probably added that bit because I realize that the idea of adding members to the federal government, even if temporary,…’
What I mean by temporary is the restructuring of the alphabet agency would require time before any layoffs took place, probably happening while the new congress critters held office. So, more temporarily.
….Sorry. I’m spent for the evening. Too Much Tuna
Just saw this. Yes it makes sense, though I’m not sure that stipulation necessarily lessens the power of a particular congress critter. All of a sudden DOE offices will be relocated to the congressional district of the guy in charge of it and he’ll never be voted out no matter what he does.
“What I mean by temporary is the restructuring of the alphabet agency would require time before any layoffs took place, probably happening while the new congress critters held office. So, more temporarily.”
I was able to infer your meaning.
Not sure but this comes to mind.
I got to hang out with a good friend I haven’t seen in a long time this weekend. We were shooting the breeze about random shit when the topic of the Trump presidency came up. We talked about how much people are hilariously losing their minds over him, and we shared some nervous laughs over how perilously close we came to the possibility of Madam President. My friend then said something that I think summed up how a lot of people felt and continue to feel. I’m paraphrasing, but it was much to the effect of, “The smart part of my brain was telling me that I should hate this guy. But the part of my brain that just finished an eleven hour workday and then had to go home and decide whether the gas bill or electricity bill should be paid on time this month really liked a lot of what he was saying.”
Honestly, I think if you re ran the election today he would crush in both popular and EC. I hear so many people around me saying “I’m not a Trump guy, but [positive development].
Market seems to like him, too.
To that point, I did not vote for him last time, and will likely decline to vote for him next time, but so far the decision will be tougher than I expected.
My advice to Trump if he wants to keep my vote: stay out of wars.
just finished an eleven hour workday and then had to go home and decide whether the gas bill or electricity bill should be paid on time this month
Was he only working one day a month? If you are working eleven hours a day and still can’t pay your bills, then either A. you’re spending to much on hookers and blow or B. you’re spending to much on hookers and blow.
Can you spend too much money on hookers and blow? I guess if you overpaid…
Not for those without dual-incomes who actually pay their way in society.
Bullshit, if you are willing to work around 20 hours a week, and lower you’re expectations you can live a very comfortable life, if you want a bunch of extra shit, then yeah, it’s gonna be a bit tougher, but don’t act like it ain’t possible to be a slacker and still live a damn good life. America!! Fuck Yeah!
Two words:
Ali
Mony
I’m offended and outraged at the way you assholes throw around the word “cunt”.
You fuckers want to know what a real cunt is?
Well I’ll tell you.
Today I, along with 10 other people, was laid off. In the group layoff meeting, someone stated that this was great news, because she had a pension waiting for her.
That, my friends, is a cunt.
Christ, what an asshole.
Her car was able to drive off the lot?
Sorry about the job, ARV.
Don’t be such a cunt ARV.
That sucks though.
I’m sorry to hear about it. What’s your line of work?
Sorry to hear that. I’ll have to agree with your definition of cunt.
Jeeze, man. Sorry about that.
Yikes. Sorry.
Dude, that sucks. Silver-lining: you probably won’t see that woman ever again
Sorry to hear that. These things can and often do turn out better in the long run, hopefully you’ll fall in that category
Ooooh. Um, yeah. Sorry. Been laid off twice in my life before I decided to work for myself. It blows chunks.
And yeah — she’s a GIANT FUCKING CUNT.
Sorry. Hopefully you’ll go onto bigger and better things.
Seconding leonadasiv’s question: What line of work?
“It’s not blackmail!”
“Coercion, then. Whatever.”
Perhaps they prefer Mail Of Color?
random thoughts
The Taliban’s budget is estimated to be about a billion dollars a year, with the bulk from opium. Seems to me that the best way to dry up their revenue would be for the US govt to flood the market with opium and such to drop the price. Instead, the current policy is to destroy poppies over there.
The British have experience with trafficking opium. Maybe get them involved.
I know it will never happen, but that would be the best way to wreck the Taliban’s finances.
I remember back in 2007 it was noted that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan officially outlasted WW2. How could it take longer to defeat an inferior enemy? Something went very wrong.
I remember back in 2007 it was noted that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan officially outlasted WW2. How could it take longer to defeat an inferior enemy?
Ask the Japanese how well things went in China.
WW2 we were dealing with nation-states that had thousands of years to build up some level of pride in themselves, or to put another way we only had to fight them to the point where they were ashamed enough to be defeated. The current wars are in countries that are such tribal patchworks, they simply have no shame. At least that’s one explanation I’ve heard that doesn’t involve the phrase, “hearts and minds.”
But your idea does have a lot of merit, its hard for them to continue financing their war effort if their only source of revenue no longer produces.
A billion dollars doesn’t seem like a lot of money compared to what we’ve been spending over there, just on the ANA.
I’m also not sure the Afghans don’t have shame, I thought they were an honor-based society- we’re probably just not giving them the right incentives to quit, because there is a fundamental lack of understanding, whereas we knew how to get the Germans and Japanese to stop fighting (I’ll note that we’ve not yet carpet bombed/nuked the Afghanis…).
To say they don’t have pride is incorrect. What is more correct is to say their pride is not in their infrastructure, it is in their culture.
‘Honor’ and ‘shame’ mean very different things to them than to us
What do you carpet bomb in Afghanistan, the cities the allied government controls? Agricultural fields? Mountains with deeply entrenched and unmapped positions that basically require way, way too many bunker busters?
Well, you’d probably have to go more concentration camp route a la USA vs. the Philippines.
NOT that I advocate for that, but if you did want them to give up or die trying, there are proven methods for breaking down insurgencies like this.
How many of them have worked in Afghanistan, the Grave of Empires™? The Soviets didn’t succeed despite a far more brutal oppression.
Alexander and Temujin, who had significantly less moral qualms than those of today, didn’t have a high success rate either.
If an insurgency has a safe zone, you will never defeat it. As long as the US pretends Pakistan is an ally and not an enemy, there’s no way to win the war in Afghanistan.
If an unfortunate accident were to befall Trump, Pence, Ryan, Hatch, Tillerson, and Mnuchin, then the true God Emperor would ascend the throne, and show Alexander the Great’s ghost how it’s done.
I was partly thinking of Genghis… he did successfully conquer Afghanistan, that is a 100% success rate.
I didn’t realize it, but the Seleucid Empire held Afghanistan as well, so chalk one up for Alexander as well, right?
No, you’re confusing control of the cities and fertile lands as the same as controlling the country, which is the case now as it was then. Just because maps show colours indicating that they controlled it didn’t mean they actually controlled it, and even then satraps and tributaries are very different from conquered land.
After Genghis put down a major rebellion a year after beating the Shah by massacring their cities the Afghan tribes retreated into the mountains and allied themselves with the Indian sultanate, and successfully assisted them in preventing Mongol invasions of their territory. Genghis Khan did not conquer Afghanistan anymore than anyone else did, controlling the lowlands has always, and will forever be, the easy part.
Don’t forget about Timur (aka Tamerlane). His empire was quite stable, but the Mongols weren’t known for governing with a light touch.
I don’t really think we’re trying to win. The military-industrial complex has a good thing going.
My Wife says this all the time, but then it leads her to the conclusion that if we ever ended the war, some new (and potentially worse) war would happen.
I’ve heard that argument, specifically that 9/11 was meant to shove us into the next endless war after the cold war ended.
I want to be clear that she is not a truther.
I do question if we’d be (even more) involved in Syria if we weren’t already in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it is hard to honestly answer ‘no’ to that.
In boot camp, one of the things they talked about a lot was how many Marine officers and NCO’s had spent a lot of time in the Banana Republics between the world wars fighting guerrillas. The way it was told to us, that was a big advantage the Marines had when WWII started. A lot of Old Corps guys had actually been in fights and heard shots fired in anger.
On a personal level it would suck to have to fight pointless fights, but at an institutional level it makes sense to have a way to test out who is a real fighter and who is a desk jockey.
There were a couple Marines who got more than 1 MoH just from inter-war conflicts. Checking out the lists and descriptions on wiki is really interesting. Another good book is “The Savage Wars of Peace” by Max Boot. I’ve read a few others about the Philippine insurgency – interesting to see some of the various stories from that period.
I don’t know if you have to flood the market. You could simply buy the poppies directly from the farmers. Pay them twice what the Taliban will.
Cheaper than paying all our troops to be there.
‘Take over the opium trade’ has basically been step 1 on my “if we’re going to be in Afghanistan, here’s how we should actually try to fix it” plan for the last decade, but the folks in charge seem to be more in favour of the ‘burn it all’ plan, because War on Drugs and a fundamental ignorance of economics.
I like your idea, buy it directly, and if I might add: sell it as cheap pain medication to the third world.
Cut the revenue out from under the blowies, and supply useful medicine to people in need. Two birds with one stone.
What in the ever loving fuck?
Yeah we were talking about this the other day. It’s a good thing they got the kid a health card cause hoo boy is it gonna need some counselling.
Searyl Atli Doty
This kid is going to have a lot of problems, and they will all be his/her parents fault.
SAD!
I see what you did there.
If this kid makes it through puberty relatively intact, I’ll bet $20 that it turns into the most hardcore traditional conservative shitlord on earth.
I’d give it 50/50 between “militant SoCon” and “I told you I didn’t want to talk about my parents.”
I got money on born-again Christian, Mormon, or radical Muslim.
Or the always-popular “took an ax to the parents, went to prison” option.
Though sadly I suspect the “drive car into a concrete pillar at 90 mph” option is the most probable.
Neither one of those fits the ‘through puberty intact’ clause but you’re probably right.
I’ve got twenty bucks that says the baby is a biological boy. In fact, I’d wager a hundred that there will never be a biological girl that gets this same idiotic, self aggrandizing treatment from her dumb fuck parents at birth.

41 billion rounds of ammo. Incredible. The war was won in the factories.
An up-armored humvee costs about $200k. A Sherman tank adjusted for inflation would run about $500k. A Sherman wouldn’t hold up well against an rpg, but I’d expect a 30 ton tank to be harder to destroy than a 3 ton humvee. A Stryker armored vehicle costs about $4.9 million.
I found some old footage where a Sherman was blown up by an IED made out of an 100 lb bomb. Interesting. Wiki sez anti-tank mines were responsible for about 20% of the combat losses during WW2 on the western front.
I don’t think there’s a situation where the Sherman would be better than the Humvee today. Its armor is tissue paper against modern heavy weapons and its resistance to small arms fire is probably about the same as the up-armored Humvee. The Humvee has got the Sherman beat badly on power-to-weight ratio and can probably turn much better, too (although tracked vehicles can turn in place, they are by definition stuck while doing so). I don’t think the 76mm cannon is going to be very useful, it was already weak in its own day.
I’ll speak for the poor Sherman’s cannon – the 75mm variant that was widely derided was designed to support infantry (tanks were supposed to be killed by tank destroyer-class vehicles) and I suspect would do just fine against today’s insurgents holed up in urban areas or caves. Probably more useful than Bradley or Striker’s pop gun.
76mm might not be as good in HE capability, so unless you’re bunker-busting where AP round might be better, it’s probably less useful.
Commonwealth infantry used, among other vehicles, de-turreted Shermans as slightly better APCs than the American M5 half-tracks.
You have to modernize the shit out of its armour and cannon to the point where you’d probably just have to redesign the whole thing from scratch. I used to build APC armour in a factory in university and our techniques now are a hell of a lot better than WW2’s “STEEL EVERYTHING” approach.
So I know some people here are Red Letter Media fans, so I have to ask:
Does anyone know if Space Cop stupid enough to actually be worth buying?
The general consensus on the predictably fanboyish and cancerous RedLetterMedia subreddit seems to be that you should buy it only if your main intention is to support RLM. Not that it doesn’t have its advocates.
Me personally, I thought it looked really bad, so I never gave much thought to buying it.
I’m a huge RLM fanboy, but Space Cop sucked. Badly. More ‘Star Wars Christmas Special’ than ‘Attack of the Killer Tomatoes’.
Cost comparison
P-47- about $1 million adjusting for inflation
A-10- $19 million
F-16- $19 million
MQ-9 drone: $17 million
Predator drone: $4 million
Not sure why it is necessary to use super expensive aircraft to blow up yahoos with AK-47s riding in technicals. P-47s did fine against tanks, locomotives, etc.
Not sure why it is necessary to use super expensive aircraft to blow up yahoos with AK-47s riding in technicals. P-47s did fine against tanks, locomotives, etc.
Pilots bitch if they don’t have the latest kit that must be able to dogfight?
Given the lack of AA, maybe USAF should bring back Skyraider? Or a modern version of Sturmovik, with less maneuverability but more armor?
Looks like we’ll be looking into Super Tucano ground attack craft for US options in addition to providing them to allies. All the same, a single hellfire is pretty cheap – launched from helo or drone or anything else. A strafing attack is probably a lot less efficient considering exposure to hostile threats and the extremely limited amount of ammo you can actually carry.
Modernize the P-47 and use them for ground attack. A good idea but not expensive enough for the pentagon.
Actually, there is quite a lot of talk about something similar for a while now.
They’ll find a way to make a $100k prop plane cost $25mil.
I found this military-themed version of The Screwtape Letters. I larfed.

I’m keeping my list of 2018 endorsements as I go on. First it was Brakey for Sen of ME, then Petersen for Sen of MO, then Rauner for Gov of IL (for the tax veto). After reading this leftist’s screeching about that “terrible KS Voter ID” and calling “spending is the issue” a stale mantra, I might just have to give my next endorsement to Kobach even though I think he is way too statist on immigration policy. The more the progs and RINOs screech about KS, though, the more I want to do it.
Did… did anyone catch this?
A dearth of marriagable men has left an “oversupply” of educated women taking desperate steps to preserve their fertility, experts say.
The first global study into egg freezing found that shortages of eligible men were the prime reason why women had attempted to take matters into their own hands.
Experts said “terrifying” demographic shifts had created a “deficit” of educated men and a growing problem of “leftover” professional women, with female graduates vastly outnumbering males in in many countries.
The study led by Yale University, involved interviews with 150 women undergoing egg freezing at eight clinics.
Researchers found that in more than 90 per cent of cases, the women were attempting to buy extra time because they could not find a partner to settle down with, amid a “dearth of educated men”.

I’ll be in someone else’s bunk, apparently…
*shrug*
Men have no problem marrying below their class, and there is no stigma marring below their age.
Women can’t do much about latter on their own, but they certainly can work on the former. Until they start doing so, they will be in fierce competition for fewer mates.
Or income, or education. I have been observing this trend for a while now. There’s a great documentary on Youtube about black women unable to find marriageable black men. When they interview the women, their responses become a fascinating study in expectations that would be considered fully sexist if the roles were reversed.
Some points that kept coming up:
He needs to make as much as I do.
If he’s a stay-at-home father, I want dinner on the table when I get home, and the housework done.
When I come home from a long day at the office, I don’t want to hear about your day, I need to decompress from the stress of the office.
Strangely, most men don’t want to marry a man.
Clearly more re-education is needed. Perhaps in some kind of group setting?
Will this setting have chain link fences with barbed wire on top? Where women can check out men like a library book for procreation?
Cause Julie’s totally got you covered on that one.
Yep, it’s the opening of Idiocracy all over again.
This group [of women], now in their late 30s, is finding it harder to find a man of equal status, fertility experts said. And the trend is set to steepen in future generations, they warned, with nearly six in ten current students female.
Status. Kay…
I’ll leave this here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HuIfGyFEUc
shortages of eligible men
I doubt there is a shortage of unmarried men. I doubt there is even a shortage of unmarried men who would like to get married. What there is, is a shortage of men who are (a) acceptable to these upper-class women who (b) want anything to do with them.
Experts said “terrifying” demographic shifts had created a “deficit” of educated men
That deficit isn’t created by demographic shifts . There are just as many college age men and women in every socioeconomic cohort. That deficit is created by education policy. But naturally they don’t want to admit that.
a growing problem of “leftover” professional women, with female graduates vastly outnumbering males in in many countries
Why hypergamy by women is a problem for anyone but the women who have put themselves into a buyer’s market, I have no idea.
Yeah I try not be sexist, but there’s a ton of women my age who are straight up delusional about
a. What men are attracted to
b. How attractive they are
c. that yes, your age does matter.
There was a quote that I found interesting: Women are paying a high price for Feminism.
I disagree. Women are paying a high price for the material successes of feminism, because women aren’t updating their pre-feminism worldview.
The women discussed in the article still want to ‘marry up’. Which, yes is going to get more and more difficult the more ‘up’ the woman goes.
I remember seeing a survey which showed that the happiness of women on average has been dropping since the 1970’s, while men’s happiness has stayed roughly the same in that time. I think this has a lot to do with it, that and that generally having more expectations from fewer is generally going to get you down when you grow up and realize you really can’t have it all.
If fewer men are choosing marriage, men’s happiness should be going up. Way up. Something’s not right.
😀
I think a lot of men would like to be married as well.
Joke Answer: All the shitty divorce/child care agreements are equalizing it on the average
Yeah, your joke answer is probably very close to being the number one answer. When a guy goes from living in a home with his wife and kids to living out of a tiny apartment, never seeing his kids, and mailing the majority of his paycheck to his ex, that guy isn’t likely to be even close to happy. Of course, there’ll be those guys who really would like to be married, but either can’t attract a girl, or see relationships as too dangerous in today’s legal environment too.
“Women tell us frequently that they are freezing their eggs because the men they meet feel threatened by their success and so unwilling to commit to starting a family together.”
It’s not your success we’re threatened by, babydoll.
The women discussed in the article still want to ‘marry up’. Which, yes is going to get more and more difficult the more ‘up’ the woman goes.
To paraphrase Col Jessup, “If you never had a blowjob from a superior officer, well you’re letting the best in life pass you by.
Of course I’m a Col. So I’ll just have to take cold showers until they elect some gal president.”
After divorcing a man who was my educational and professional equal, I married a bartender/bass player. We are coming up on our 10 year anniversary, and I’ve never been happier. Did I mention he was in debt (paying child support) and is over 10 years older than I am? On paper, you might say I married down, but the reality is, marrying my current hubby was a huge upgrade.
He reads a ton, stays current on politics, has a wealth of knowledge on history, science, etc, simply because he is intellectually curious. Women who are snobby enough to avoid men that don’t make as much mulah as they do (or whatever the hangup is) are likely really missing out on some real gems out there.
gosh, how did THAT happen? Just luck, I guess.
Go look at those women on dating sites and the mystery of why they can’t get married evaporates quickly. Read the shit they write.
My wife is older than I am, made more money and has a masters where I only have a bachelors. We have been married for 20 very happy years with no end in sight.
Those girls have their heads up Thierry own asses
Cougar!
I know, right? I read that and thought, “Hot!”
But I also admit that if I marry a woman with a half-finished GED, I’m marrying up. Credentials-wise at least.
That was one of the things I was thinking, how many of these women are willing to marry a guy who makes more than them, but *doesn’t* have a fancy degree?
Imagine the embarrassment of having to go to your fancy corporate function with your hubby “the plumber”. Doesn’t matter he makes a very comfortable living. Everyone would feel sorry for you because you married someone who works with his hands.
See, I’ll never understand that concept. Those guys actually do stuff- I find that much more impressive than a lot of say, academics’ “work”. I guess it is rooted in old class systems, but that was also when such people made a considerably less comfortable living. Some of those guys are also quite smart, and some, I assume, are good people.
Where I live, pretty much everyone would be trying to get the plumber’s business card, and the corporate wife would be all but ignored.
Women in power suits are a dime a dozen these days. Plumbers, not so much.
It’s about job status just as much as money. A dude working a white collar job for 45k, staring at his 150k in student loans, is higher status than an HVAC tech who’s banking 55k a year easy and is debt free.
I know some HVAC techs. $55k would be on the low end.
I don’t know how the weather has been in your area, but for about a month it has been hot as hell with thunderstorms in the evening about twice a week. I keep about an acre of yard mowed at my place. I have been having to cut the grass every 4 days for weeks now. I enjoy mowing. I put the headphones on and bring an ice chest full of beer. I think I need to lay off though. My wife is starting to get irritated at the drinking and mowing at this point.
Phoenix. Hot as hell with no rain. They closed off Tonto NF for target shooting due to fire hazard. On 4th of July. After I bought a new gun and $200 worth of ammo.
Not that I am bitter or anything, but BLM may want to take note that I have a new gun and $200 of ammo and didn’t get to shoot any of it on my day off.
You’re lucky Preet’s no longer around!
The closed off all of Maricopa on the 1st of June. There’s nothing to burn here in the low desert and I still can’t hit Maricopa rifle range, its retarded. Of course all the state trust land is open for hunting, but you can’t go there to do target work.
Huh, I grew up in the southwest. Pretty much everything outside city limits was a shooting range.
Still more or less the case here in Phoenix, you can shoot anywhere on BLM land and what land isn’t Indian Res outside Phoenix is BLM. Problem is, you have to drive an hour or more just to get outside phoenix city limits, and then drive some more across a Res or two. Of course, the BLM will issue “no firearms” orders for all its land for who knows what reason.
BLM may want to take note.
They’re like the IRS, they know you hate them.
I’m laughing because same here only with vodka. The rows start out very neatly but about 3/4 the way finished the lines get wavy with the occasional missed sprig
I was hoping to get a response frim you suthen. My tomatoes, cucumber, and corn are better than they have been in years. The rain and sunshine mixture (along with the chicken shit I tilled in this spring) have given me the best garden. I have ever have. I figure you have had the much the same climate where you are as I have.
Also, my pears and muscadines are overloaded. I’m gonna have a lot of wine thus winter.
I find myself going outside and doing yardwork a lot just to blow of stress from my shitty office job. Sometimes I daydream about a job in lawncare; it’s hard work in sweltering temperatures, but at least I go home at the end of the day and my mind is free and I’d have a much lower chance of a stress-induced stroke at age 45. The thing is I’ve looked at job listings and it wouldn’t even be that big of a pay cut. If they give raises, I might be making the same amount in a year or two.
Buy a quality mower and weedeater. Start up your own business. Do it while you work your shitty jib until you have enough contracts to make it. Lachowsky’s two cents.
Yea, that’s an idea, but I don’t know if I’m the “business management” type. I’m definitely not a people person, so going out and finding clients would be difficult for me.
Over the years, I’ve slowly come to the realization that the things I enjoy really don’t carry over into any type of 9-to-5 employment. This means the only options for me are to A) find some halfway tolerable job and just focus on my other pursuits during off-hours, or B) adjust my lifestyle so that I can live with very little income and just pay my few expenses with freelance writing money.

‘According to Obama, people “reinforce their own realities, to the neglect of a common reality that allows us to have a healthy debate and then try to find common ground and actually move solutions forward.” ‘
I guess Woke and Self Awareness really are mutually exclusive.
I’ve seen people debate progs. There seems to be a lot of screeching
If Obama had any degree of self-awareness, and if he truly cared about his beliefs, he’d recognize that right now the best thing for them would be for him to step aside and shut the fuck up for awhile. But since he’s a narcissist he can’t help but bloviate as much as he wants, and he won’t stop until he’s dead. His cult of personality effectively neutered the Democrats and helped cripple them into the state they’re in today, and yet he still demands the limelight.
Even when Obama did something “good”, he had a nasty habit of poisoning the well while doing it. If can’t be done in a way that doesn’t glorify him, then it’s not worth doing.
Well, the man would know something about reinforcing his own reality. Also, whenever anyone says we should all accept a common reality, what’s really being said “let’s you and me do what I want”.
Just like “compromise” means “you give me half of your cake, and you can keep the other half”.
Keep it up Emperor O. You are doing such wonders for your party, don’t stop now.
Has this been brought up yet? A female employee reportedly called Tesla’s factory a ‘predator zone’ at a meeting where some workers described sexual harassment
It would be perfect if Musk is fucked in the end, not because people realize he’s a flim flam artist who has been using govt money to wow the masses, but because the woke women he hired got him.
Not sure how being passed over for a promotion by someone “equally qualified” is sexual discrimination, but I guess it is.
Blow me over with a feather. She should take a walk around on a construction site if she thinks factory floors are bad.
At the last factory I worked at, there was no catcalling or inappropriate sexual behavior at all… Mainly because there weren’t any sexy women who worked there.
An elderly security guard did get caught fucking the mentally deranged, toothless janitor, though.
If only he’d redirected his own space program to assuaging the tender sensibilities of Muslims, he might have been spared the pitchforks.
*checks the July, 1, 2017 version of the Progressive Victim Stack*
Yeah, this checks out, Muslims score 10 points higher than women. Maybe look into refugees.
But if you hire a bunch of muslim workers, the women are going to look back on the days when they were merely catcalled as the Golden Years.
*consults July, 1, 2017 version of the Progressive Victim Stack*
Nope, doesn’t matter. Just look at the whole rape in Sweden/UK thing.
Ten. Points. Higher.
I didn’t call your wisdom (or rating method) into question. All I said is that the broads who are bitching now are in for a rude awakening once the factory starts hiring a lot of Syrian refugees. Even ruder will be when they realize that no one will listen to their complaints anymore.
If you are lower on The Stack, you take what those higher on The Stack give you, and like it.
Qualification is only part of the equation here, how does she stack up to her promoted coworkers when it comes to things like motivation, outlook, and productivity?

A group of scientists placed five monkeys in a cage, and in the middle, a ladder with bananas on top.
Every time a monkey went up the ladder, the scientists soaked the rest of the monkeys with cold water.
After a while, every time a monkey would start up the ladder, the others would pull it down and beat it up.
After a time, no monkey would dare try climbing the ladder, no matter how great the temptation.
The scientists then decided to replace one of the monkeys. The first thing this new monkey did was start to climb the ladder. Immediately, the others pulled him down and beat him up.
After several beatings, the new monkey learned never to go up the ladder, even though there was no evident reason not to, aside from the beatings.
The second monkey was substituted and the same occurred. The first monkey participated in the beating of the second monkey. A third monkey was changed and the same was repeated. The fourth monkey was changed, resulting in the same, before the fifth was finally replaced as well.
What was left was a group of five monkeys that – without ever having received a cold shower – continued to beat up any monkey who attempted to climb the ladder.
If it was possible to ask the monkeys why they beat up on all those who attempted to climb the ladder, their most likely answer would be “I don’t know. It’s just how things are done around here.”
Does that sound at all familiar?
Source: This story, a modern day fable, was inspired in part by the experiments of G.R. Stephenson, found in “Cultural acquisition of a specific learned response among rhesus monkeys“ as well as certain experiments with chimpanzees conducted by Wolfgang Kohler in the 1920s. Over the years, it was pieced together to form the urban legend as it now stands. If you enjoyed this post, you may appreciate the similar Hundredth Monkey Effect.

Five little monkeys, sittin’ in a cage,
b-e-a-t-i-n-g
If the story is true:
The monkeys had empirical evidence of the bad results of trying to get those bananas.
But their limited monkey brains couldn’t wrap their minds around the concept of being locked up by sadistic scientists, scientists who laughed the asses off at those irrational monkeys .
This experiment simply proves that a bunch of scientists can outwit a bunch of monkeys – congratulations, brave pioneers of research!
Haha that’s funny. I saw that story on a Ted talk.
I always hate being the guy who has to inform someone that a good fable is apochyraphal. But I do it every time.
Question specifically for Eddie, or any other Catholics in the hizzy:
What are your opinions on allowing priests to marry/have sexual relationships? Do you think that would curb the kind of nonsense above?
I think it would be a good idea to remove the rules against marriage for priests. There is no biblical basis for a ban as far as I know, and was more a response to specific problems in the medieval Church. Plenty of Christian sects allow marriage, even old-timey ones like the eastern orthodox.
Now, I don’t necessarily think it would have any effect on ‘the kind of nonsense above’ since married folk often do terrible things.
/lapsed catholic, wishing they hadn’t messed up the rites so I could get back into it.
I know that we see news stories about sex abuse, drug orgies, etc. by married men (priests or not), so it’s not a cure-all.
I think it’s a law ‘n order matter of the Church getting rid of the wolves in sheep’s clothing.
But whether married priests are more likely to offend than non-married, I imagine some researcher should compare the population of unmarried priests and married priests (and yes, the Catholic Church has married priests, e. g., in the Ukrainian church).
Maybe those parts of the Church which ordain married men are better off for getting a better class of more stable individuals, or maybe not.
Really, if someone hasn’t been researching it, they should.
The main reason I hesitate to get on the more-married-priests bandwagon is that, although ordaining married men to the priesthood is a matter of the Church’s legislative discretion, this particular “reform” is so often promoted by the “let’s be modern” crowd.
Doesn’t mean it isn’t a good idea. Think of it as being even *more* traditional.
The idea that men who are not even allowed to masturbate are less likely to offend sexually than people who have non-coercive access to sex does not very likely to me.
When I was younger, if I went without… erm… sexual release… for about 48 hours, I would become physically uncomfortable and preoccupied with sexual thoughts. I don’t think this is that unusual, I am not some sort of ultra-testosteroned he-man. Priests are completely unlike people like me in this manner? Doubt it.
I always assumed the ban on priest marriage was based on the apostle Paul’s writings, since he happened to be happily single. But he explicitly acknowledges that that life isn’t for everyone:
(1 Corinthians 7, NIV)
I always loved reading Martin Luther’s letters to his wife, who was a Catholic nun before he, a former Catholic priest, more or less rescued her. It worked for them!
I had always thought it was more about property. As the church grew in power and wealth the worry was how priests having a wife and children could affect that. Do they get to inherit anything? And what about dynasties?
The church decided that forbidding marriage was a good answer for issues like that. Sure you might have a wife and children, but they legally couldn’t get anything from the church when you died.
I can’t remember where I heard/read that, but I do think it makes sense.
Interesting perspective! Considering the amount of power and wealth that was concentrated in the Catholic church, I could see this being a thing. Plus not wanting the son of a pope to automatically have an advantage in getting “elected” to be a pope.
I’ve read that in England, in the small numbers of Catholic parishes that do exist, it was quite common for the priest to have a female “Housekeeper” that was acknowledged with a nod and a wink to be his wife for most practical purposes.
My step dad is Catholic, progressive, and pretty intelligent. He says no, something about tradition. His answer was pretty contortionist.
It’s really a misunderstanding. It’s just a matter of forming the habit. I used to think it was impossible too but then I discovered it was just that, a habit. In my experience, forming the habit made me think about that stuff much much less and be much more at peace. I was in seminary 4 years. I left before ordination and now I’m happily married. The “deep state” at the Vatican is a mess, which is the main reason Benedict retired, hoping a younger Pope could do more to fight it.
The sex abuse thing is more an issue of selection and predators. You see something similar happen with coaches, teachers, and protestant pastors. Predators seek jobs in areas where they can be close to trusting prey. The big reason it blew up out of control in the CC was that the Bishops in the 70s kept thinking they could fix the predator priests with psychiatrists instead of completely barring them from going anywhere near children for the rest of their lives. So the offenders did a lot of damage.
I think Fusionist is on to the real question, and I don’t know the answer.
yeah I’m high. High on CNN
High on CNN does not scan.
Time to bring this party down.
Friggin’ Amazon. I’m going to visit some relatives this weekend so I decided to get a “new” boardgame – Classic! I’ve got a nephew who’s almost the same age I was the first time I played it. And I know my uncle would get a kick out of it too.
So, order last Friday – prime delivery Sunday (yeah, right…it’s not the Christmas season and I have had numerous bad experiences with USPS locally) – I reckon Monday or maybe worst case Wednesday. Today, I check to see – it apparently shipped from Chester VA (less than 70 miles away) on Saturday and is now in Durham, NC per Amazon tracking….with NO EST ETA. WTF?
Tried calling this afternoon – got connected to someone with a tenuous grip on the English language and a far looser grip on US geography. Hung up after 5 min. We’ll see if the email chain works any better, but I’ll probably just wind up with a refund and my thumb up my ass (not in that order necessarily NTTAWWT).
Well this was inevitable.

Awesome.
“Everyone who thinks CNN is fake news, leave the room.” 😀
I’m at work this afternoon, somewhat the worse for wear after having one too many (ok, four too many) yesterday/last night. And I get a call from a special agent doing an investigation on me ( I have secret clearance). He asks when a good time to meet would be, and I said, I am open right now, surrounded by moving boxes since I am about to move cubicles. So he shows up in 20 minutes and I get grilled for 1.5 hours.
He was actually a pretty cool guy. It’s rare to find the ones that want to talk, but he followed rabbit trails about photography, “practice marriages” (we both had one), and his previous job as a police detective. All in all it was fine, but I have to admit it’s a little weird to have to do this from time to time. Apparently, this time the issue was that I formerly had a Swiss bank account. But he asked all the usual stuff too, like whether I was involved in a terrorist org or tried to conspire to overthrow the govt, yada yada.
Then there’s the open ended “Is there anything you’d like to tell me?” they throw in at the end. I thought briefly of confessing to Glibertarians but decided that should not be a problem–we just want to improve govt and defend the real US constitution. What’s funny is that I happened to be wearing my silver ring with a big E Pluribus Unum and pyramid with eye above it. His eyes lingered on the ring for a sec. I am not a freemason, but many people read more into the ring than that I love my country.
Illuminati confirmed.
Wait–I’ve never seen YOU at the meetings!
I mean, not that I have been either…or whatever.
33rd–out.
