Well we’ve reached the All-Star Break and have two teams with 60 wins after the Astros demolished the Blue Jays yesterday to split the four-game series. Even money says there will not be a Dodgers-Astros World Series. Any takers?
And after a couple of close calls on Saturday in the women’s tournament, we are on to week 2 of Wimbledon. And I can see an upset or two happening today. Probably not in the man’s draw though. I suspect that will hold form until at least the quarterfinals.
Also, people are riding bikes across France, but I can’t be bothered to tune in. I don’t really know any of the cyclists anymore and there aren’t any of them peddling wristbands for social signaling. And without that, what’s really the point?
That’s it for sportzball. Now let’s dive into…the links!
We’ve pondered making up some Glibertarians hats, but are afraid whichever one of you this was would have kept it on when you went haywire.
International Olympic Committee to Rio de Janeiro: go piss up a rope. And yet there are still cities and countries dumb enough to beg them for attention.
Looks like Comey deliberately leaked classified information when he decided to leak his version of conversations with President Trump to the New York Times. Lucky for him the special prosecutor involved in the whole Russian interference investigation is a close buddy of his.
Due process? We don’t need no stinkin’ due process! The comments aren’t exactly reassuring either.
That’s an unbearable way to be waken up. I don’t know what else to say.
This will probably dominate the news day, so I may as well touch on it too. The story as I see it: somebody called on Donald Trump Jr. and said she had damning info on Hillary Clinton. He agreed to meet her and invited Paul Manafort and Jared Kushner to the meeting as well. The lady they were meeting, a Russian attorney, rambled on for a few minutes and then went into a spiel about overturning a law we passed some years ago that led to Russia not allowing adoptions of Russian kids by American families. The meeting lasted 20 minutes and adjourned. Now that person is alleged to have ties to the Opposition research firm the DNC hired that created the fake dossier on Trump about him liking women to piss on him and other stuff, none of which has even come close to being verified. And I’m supposed to be outraged, somehow. Because according to the ranking Dem member on the House intel committee:
I was about to say that if there was a snap auction, I’ll put money on it that the agents notified some “interested” parties prior to it.
Snap auctions are supposed to be allowed only when there are perishable items if it is the state of Texas holding it. And a judge must sign off in the portion that is to be sold quickly, meaning non-perishables should be held and properly advertised. I know federal law doesn’t apply and a federal agency doesn’t even need to hire a licensed auctioneer here to hold a sale like a state agency would.
But this whole thing stinks. And I hope some enterprising young journalist gets ahold of the info for who was registered for the sale and who bought what and their relationships with the agents involved. Even money says there were shenanigans.
“The lead agent brought four children to join the armed agents and tag along during the entire process,” the lawsuit stated. The children sat on a pallet with several boxes of pepperoni pizza while watching events unfold, the suit said.”
Young little stasi agents in training. That’s sick. Bring your kids along to watch you destroy someone’s livelihood.
What’s wild is that will backfire in the case of some kids. Most will learn that this is how you feed yourself and a few will grow up thinking, “Damn, that couple was completely screwed.”
It reminded me of the scene in Brazil with the little girl playing in the torture chamber.
“The IRS claimed that the businesses intentionally tried to evade federal bank reporting requirements by making cash deposits just under the $10,000 limit.”
Good God this drives me nuts. If $10,000 isn’t the real limit, than make some other amount the limit.
“Structuring” is the biggest load of shit ever. Pretty soon they’ll start giving out DUIs to people who passed the FST but blew a .06. After all, it’s close to the limit.
Some states already have it written into the law. As an example, Ohio. The law here is that blowing over the limit is complete evidence of impairment (regardless of how you perform on the FST); however, if you blow under the officer can still charge you, but then needs to make the case that you were impaired.
they can and do already do that. At least in Ky and Tn.
Arkansas has zero tolerance laws for anyone under 21. About 8 years ago my 20 year old brother came to my house. I had been drinking and it was about 10 at night. He walked in aND cracked a beer. He had about half of it drank when I asked him if he would run me to the store to get some more beer.
Long story short, we both went to jail after getting pulled over. He blew a .02 and git a dwi, I was forced out of the vehicle and given a public intox.
That dwi was the primary reason my brother wasn’t accepted into pharmacy school a few years later. He got a degree in biochem and scored in the top 10% on his MCAT.
The office I worked for defended a couple cases like that. It’s really up to the officer’s discretion, and afaik they’re paid the same whether they show up in court to testify in a slam dunk prosecution or in a loser case that should never have been charged, let alone brought to trial.
Fine, it’s $9500, but don’t push it by deposting $9200. Aw, fuggit, anything over a C note makes you a criminal.
Aw, fuggit, anything
over a C notewe arbitrarily determine makes you a criminal.FIFY!
No line item vetos.
Pretty much what the rule means for a small business – unless your cash-flow allows you to store cash in a safe until you’re over the 10k mark.
Want to take a wild guess how much cash on hand insurance companies are willing to cover for small businesses?
$10,000 is not the real limit. Financial institutions are required to keep detailed records of any cash transaction of $5,000 or more (and sometimes less depending on the circumstances). The point is to catch people who are structuring transactions in such a way as to avoid reporting. Mainly it “catches” people who aren’t doing anything wrong but who have a healthy fear of the IRS and therefore do their transactions in really stupid ways that sends red flags to FinCen that gets them noticed a whole lot more than if they had just dumped the money in their account and not worried about it.
We didn’t do anything like this when I worked at a bank (3 years ago). We were obligated to report “suspicious activity” (as determined by bank staff) and, of course, any cash deposits over $10k, but we were not required to keep a special database on cash transactions over $5k.
“There’s this guy who keeps asking for personal financial details of clients. His business card has a vulture on it”
http://www.polsinellioninternational.com/blog/2016/5/25/the-problems-associated-with-cash-transactions
“The United States Bank Secrecy Act requires banks in the U.S. to keep transaction records on any cash deposit or withdrawal of $10,000 or more. For example, these Currency Transaction Reports request information about the source of the cash. Banks are also required to file SARs or Suspicious Activity Reports. Federal regulations require banks to file SARs in a variety of circumstances, including transactions greater than $5,000 if the bank suspects illegal activity. In fact, a bank can file an SAR on any transaction it considers suspicious, even for amounts lower than $5,000, without informing the account owner of the SAR.”
Here’s the rub: “…including transactions greater than $5,000 if the bank suspects illegal activity.” Even if a financial institution doesn’t “suspect” illegal activity they must be able to show that the transaction was reviewed and demonstrate why the transaction was or wasn’t deemed suspicious. The documentation must be kept for five years. The regs do not specify that a certain form be completed for transactions between five and ten thousand dollars but financial institutions must be able to produce the documentation immediately upon request (I’ve had the “pleasure” of being interviewed by Homeland Security. Trust me, “immediately” means immediately). My documentation gets looked at by examiners at least once a year if not more often.
With that it is better off to report more or all as suspicious, because if you don’t you will be forced to defend your not reporting if a transaction comes up with your banks name on it.
Interesting blog post, but like I said, we only created a SAR if we felt the activity was suspicious – which is what is required by law. We had a lot of data on what our client’s businesses were, and a large transaction history, which in and of itself could explain why a person was making a deposit between $5k and $10k. I suppose I should have mentioned that we were a business bank.
That would make sense if you are mainly dealing with businesses. Most banks when dealing with businesses that do a lot of their business in cash add the business to the “exempt list”. We’ve never done it simply because it is easier to report than to maintain all the requirements of the list. I’m currently with a “closed membership” credit union and our membership deals almost exclusively in cash so we get looked at very closely. The examiners just can’t wrap their heads around people paying for everything in cash but it is just the mindset of our members. Maybe the examiners wouldn’t take such a snooty attitude if they knew that those grimy, smelly welders and pipefitters that they look down their noses at make six figures a year.
As sloopy said, the comments really don’t disappoint:

I love how the headline makes it seem like this just happened during the Trump administration, when you have to read into the story to find that it happened two years ago under Obama. Gotta further the Trump anti-immigrant narrative any way they can, I guess.
Wait, wahh? Pathetic sycophant.
But half an hour earlier:

I bet they donated to Republicans and voted Republican.
Some of the comments are pretty good though.
I was about to say that if there was a snap auction, I’ll put money on it that the agents notified some “interested” parties prior to it.
Ya sure. Just one plain clothes officer. And the wives of the rest of the force that helped in the investigation to rob these people. IRS asset sales are blatantly unconstitutional.
Yeah, but how else are we supposed to teach these durty brown immigrants how things werk in Murika?
Bill de Blasio is a weird guy. I wonder how long New Yorkers are going to put up with his incompetence.
If they don’t run him out of town on a rail for protesting with violent communists and socialists while the people in his city are ignored and their public transit is in crisis, then I suppose they’ll put up with him for as long as he wants to be around.
It’s July 10th – there should be no traffic in New Jersey for the next month and a half. Instead Route 80 is backed up from the GW Bridge to Mount Olive because they can’t maintain their trains.
They just need someone who can make the trains run on time.
I like him much better in Germany.
I was hoping for a video of German riot police beating him with a baton and soaking him in mace.
Police #1: Who is he?
Police #2: I’m…not sure. Better hose him just in case.
I hate the madatory “training” at work. It A: never changes year to year, and B: is wrong. I don’t mean the requirement, but the content is wrong. But I am required to give the “correct” answer as per the godawful policies of the state.
I was pleasantly surprised to find our company’s active shooter training included a ‘fight back’ option this year. Of course, it was strongly emphasized as being the last option with hiding in a closet with your eyes closed being preferable but hey that’s still progress.
Gun free zone, I’m guessing?
Yes, w’re instructed to use a fire extinguisher or pens against armed gunmen. Fortunately, I work from home which especially gives me a kick about the sexual harassment and OSHA training.
You juggle knives while referring to the wife as ‘sweet cheeks’, don’t you?

Sugartits. It’s always Sugartits.
“We have a safe word! It’s not a hostile work environment!”
We don’t have active shooter as part of our training at the mill. I figure the plan would be to go terminator style and try to knock the shooter into a ladle if that ever happened here.
40) I was speaking to an older gentleman at a party the other night, and he mentioned how he felt sorry for his grandkids because they weren’t allowed to go anywhere by themselves. When he was a kid in Colorado and Texas, he would roam for miles away from his house, even from a pretty young age. His grandkids, on the other hand, basically weren’t allowed to leave the backyard without adult supervision. “Their mother,” he explained, “just couldn’t forgive herself if something happened to them.”
That phrase he used struck me, “just couldn’t forgive herself.” I wonder if the increase in over-protectiveness and helicopter parenting correlates with a decline in religious belief? Maybe it used to be, if something did happen to a kid, a parent would attribute it to an act of God or the hand of fate? And while it would be terrible, a parent wouldn’t feel personally responsible for that.
But now, with so much more secularism, people feel more responsible for their own lives. Which is great, when the only person you have to worry about is yourself! But when you’re also responsible for children, you don’t want to relinquish that control. Because if something did happen to that child, it would be your fault and no one else’s. God may forgive, but if there’s no God, how can you forgive yourself? And so worried parents watch their kids every second, because the alternative is unthinkable. Even if, for the vast majority of kids, that means destroying the independence of their childhoods, not to mention your own peace of mind.
Sounds like a sermon to me…
Hallelujah!
Holy shit.
Where’s the Tylenol?
This right here is why I come here every day.
Me too.even let the wife read that lil nugget of a sermon
I remember hearing my extremely religious grandparents saying they’d never forgive themselves if something happened to one of us while we were in their care. I don’t think it has to do with a decline in religion or faith. I just think it has to do with sensationalizing bad things and making people believe they’re commonplace.
I also think that in the old days a lot of bad shit happened to a lot of people, so it wasn’t so rare and scary.
Large industrial machines killed lots of workers. Health care wasn’t nearly so advanced so lots of kids died that are cured today. Media was local and limited so you didn’t read stories each day about bad things happening to kids.
Our society is so wonderful that death and bad things are very rare. If something happens to your kid, you don’t have a shit ton of other parents telling you, “yup, I lost little Timmy to a carbonmonoxide poisoning from a faulty heater too.”
I think what you’ve said is exactly the answer: children used to die at substantially higher rates than today (see the chart here, under the child mortality tab – children were 10x to 75x more likely to die 100 years ago, depending on which age range you’re looking at), so being more common it would be less scary.
I think that is part of it but I also think part of the problem is that parents fear being judged. “Bad” parents let their little hooligans run the streets while “good” parents keep their children close to home. “Good” parents “guide” their children while “bad” parents leave their little bastards to their own devices. Nobody wants the neighbors thinking that they are bad parents.
I’ll throw in 2 working parent households. Back when more women stayed home, there was an informal network throughout the neighborhood where everybody was keeping half an eye on everyone else’s kids, and people in the neighborhood, or at least the women, seemed to know each other. This is less prevalent today.
Plus that other stuff you guys said.
That has a lot to do with it. Heaven forbid Mrs. Gilson or Mrs. Randall called my mom and told her I was acting up. First, I’d get chewed out by which ever neighbor caught me in the act and then I’d catch holy Hell when I got home. Everybody knew everybody and everybody looked out for everybody.
Even when I grew up in the 90s this was more prevalent. All my friend’s parents had the go-ahead from my mom to hand out punishment if I was being a bad kid.
I got swatted on the ass by more than one neighbor as a kid.
I blame White Privilege.
I blame seatbelt laws.
When I was a kid in the early 90s my grandfather used to load us grandkids up 8 or 9 at the time in the back of his toyota T 100 for the 5am trip up the mountain to church and then out to the grape vineyards afterwords. I liked sitting on the open tailgate and letting my legs dangle off the side as we went down the highway.
My grandfather would be a multiple offense child abuser for that these days.
Riding in the bed of a pickup is great. Just like the first time the weather gets nice enough to swim in the spring in Minnesoda, the first pickup ride was also a way to tell that warm weather was on its way.
There were always some false starts where you were sure it was warm enough to ride in the back, but after a mile or two you’d be frozen and have to climb into the cab.
Back around ’96, I took mine and the neighbor’s kids literally around the block and never over 25 in the back of my pick-up. There was a desert storm brewing so I was trying to get them home quicker.
I got a 15 minute lecture from Mrs. Neighbor over that. I basically stopped talking to him or her and told my kids to “never play with them assholes”, which they were OK with because… they really were assholes.
Family watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang last night, and When Potts (Van Dyke) first meets Truly and gives her busy body ways the complete brush off is a beautiful thing. Couldn’t find a clip of it however.
Growing up in the 80s and 90s, we would ride around in the bed of the pick-up. We had a 3-wheeler and would pulled in the trailer behind it while family members zipped around. Now my siblings get nervous when I pull their kids around in that same trailer, behind a lawnmower.
My 5 year old has a 50cc gas 4 wheeler. He rides it almost everyday. Some people have expressed their disapproval. Some people can fuck off.
I think you can still do that in AZ, but you have to sit against the cab and can’t go on the highway.
I think it is related to others passing judgment more publicly and the increase in criminal charges being brought for silly parenting mishaps. Also, many helicopter parents seem to be the type to be all for the nanny state.
This phrase reminded me of what a gigantic asshole I am. Background: my dad’s lifelong friend, let’s give him the pseudonym Mike Lawson – he’s been dead for about 10 years – was leaving for work one morning. He got in the car, backed it up and felt something…it was one of his kids. He had no idea the toddler was outside. This happened back in the 70s, so Mike Lawson had to carry this around with him for some 30 years.
Well, a few months back, I’m driving around in some neighborhood and there’s a sign posted: “DRIVE LIKE YOUR KIDS LIVE HERE” Again, asshole that I am, mentally added the phrase,”NOT YOU, MIKE LAWSON”
I guess someone is making a buck on those signs because I’ve seen one in my neighborhood recently.
To be fair, while I usually roll my eyes at stuff like that, there are some assholes that go way too fast on our streets. It’s a subdivision with no through streets – there’s no reason anyone needs to be going 45-50.
I’m reading Where Rivers Change Direction, a memoir about the author’s childhood growing up on a horse ranch in Wyoming during the 60s and 70s. The remarkable thing to my mind isn’t the freedom he enjoyed but the heaps of responsibilities he was given, even as a preteen. It’s a meditation on the molding of men from doughy boys.
I wonder whether that has something to do with the reticence by modern, mostly white-collar parents living comfortably in the suburbs: you just don’t know the measure of your child because there’s nothing hardscrabble about their lives or yours, no hardship or challenge to steel them and therefore no reason to trust them with freedom or obligations. Without any actual perils, you’re free to conjure up any number of tragedies lurking just beyond the fenceline. If you’ve never given your son a rifle to put down a gangrene-legged horse as bear bait in the meadow where you host grizzly hunts for tourists, you can’t be sure he won’t simply trip over the curb and into traffic the first time he wanders out to the end of the lawn.
The EU continues to whine about Brexit and what it will do, May continues to be a wet rag on the whole thing.
http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-40552318
She ought to respond “ok then, GTFO! You have 30 days.” And see what happens.
The comments are actually good. The tactics of the EU are pushing Brits even harder for Brexit. Soon most will be ready to tell the EU to piss off now.
The EU negotiation A-Team seems to double down on every bad tactic they get called out for. Even hearing Jean-Claude Juncker speak one time is enough to tell you that the EU wants negotiations to fail because they apparently think if they can make the deal bad enough for the Brits, either the Brits will stay and/or other countries will be too afraid to try to leave the EU. Obviously that’s only going to make the prospects for EU survival less probable.
The Institute for Justice rules. I love them.
I’m your hucklebeary.
I used to have a English Mastiff. She was the mildest dog ever and afraid of trash cans – but whenever we saw a bear, she transformed into a vicious medieval fighting-dog and went after them. A friend’s Great Dane is the same and has actually bitten a bear on the ass as he chased it. Funny how old breeding comes out sometimes.
That is very cool.
My old mutt was great at retrieving balls and sticks in the back yard until I brought him bird hunting the first time. He found his true calling and never deigned to play fetch in the backyard again. He’d give you this look like “you threw it, you get it.” Once he knew about pheasants and grouse, he was too good to play at it.
He would still chase sticks you threw into the lake, but then I never brought him duck hunting either. I was worried the same thing would happen.
afraid of trashcans? That’s adorable.
Not when you are connected to a 180-lb dog via a leash and she decides to flee in terror.

Accepting cash for a service and not reporting it to the IRS.
So option B, then.

I was expecting THIS
And when I clicked your link, I expected this horrible bit of cultural appropriation.
Beautiful, though, isn’t it?
Thought about it, but figured Red Riding Hood was the superior of the two.
Oh it’s awesome. You probably done better than me with either of my musical links today.
I should have mentioned the G20 in my original link. It would have at least been apt.
Meh…”Better” is in the ear of the beholder.
I tried to explain cultural appropriation to a group of Japanese friends the other day. Tried to be as fair as possible, but no matter how hard I tried they all just looked at me like I was making it up. It gave me hope.
I always found accusations of appropriating Japanese culture (eg. Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne) particularly asinine. And it was never actual Japanese people making the accusation.
People actually from other cultures don’t care. They see it as people appreciating their culture and are proud when it becomes mainstream. It’s only bleeding-heart, mostly-white liberals that make themselves the guardians of other cultures that care, you know, because these other people can’t take care of themselves and are being exploited or something, because white power or something. It’s incredibly racist.
-1 Dread pulling BLM activist

I’ll add an addendum to your postulate. People from other cultures don’t care, but people who have artificially foisted themselves into being a representative of some real or imagined culture (WE WUZ KANGZ) care the most out of anyone.
Well there was that time at Oberlin when the the Vietnamese students were claiming cultural appropriation, because the cafeteria wasn’t serving their banh mi sandwiches on authentic Vietnamese french bread.
If that seems dumb as hell to you, the congrats, you’re smarter than an Oberlin grievance major.
The Japanese have a long tradition of cultural appropriation. They are well known for taking other people’s ideas and “Japanifying” them.
Actually, we all do, but they still have a rich tradition of doing it.
Being 95% ethnic Japanese kind of makes it hard to find Mexican cooks for your taco shop.
Did the orientation look anything like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nvjVsHnDGGw
Obama forgot he’s not President and showed up at the G-20. What a douche.
The Washington Post had an article yesterday headlined “Obama returns to political fray for a Democratic Party cause.”
I laughed and laughed. “Returns?”
Well, he has had a few forays to the South Pacific.
Too bad one of them wasn’t a multi-year stay on St. Helena.
Too bad he didn’t retrace the flight of Amelia Earhart in its entirety.
Doing things for the Democratic party instead of for his ego admittedly is a change.
I don’t see any evidence that this wasn’t about his ego.
If it does anything for the DP, that will be merely incidental.
He really is a pretentious asshole. I didn’t like GWB, but when he left office, he had the sense to stay the hell out of the way of the new administration and keep his mouth shut.
I didn’t click the link. Was he giving a speech to the looters? His peeps.
He’s totally not a commie.
I don’t think the VA will ever be an efficiently run organization but the Trump Administration is doing the right thing – VA Terminates 500, Suspends 200 For Misconduct.
That man is working his way to getting my vote next time around. Fantastic.
Seriously.
Former boss man is butt hurt:
“He said “you can’t fire your way to excellence” and blamed “negative news articles” for a morose culture, rather than the individuals perpetrating the misconduct described in those articles. ”
Bullshit, Bob.
Fire away, trump. I want to see more and more of this. Firing Federal employees is the Libertarian thing he has done.
Just please don’t rehire new ones.
Not to worry; they’ll be reinstated with back-pay after a couple years of costly labor litigation.
More and more people on Team Red are starting to realize that Trump is (mostly) on the good team. That must utterly terrify the establishment.
Don’t worry. None of them are me….I think
Did anyone else see the Library of Congress tribute/award to Billy Joel? It was a who’s who of white politicians with no rhythm.

So everyone except Saxophone Willy Clinton and “War Drums” Warren?
Even Rand Paul was there, although he looked like he didn’t want to be. He needs to work on his resting bitch face.
As someone who looks pissed off doing things i dont wanna do, you are asking to much from Rand.
Trump has a horrible resting bitch face, and he still managed to get elected. Trump is proof that resting bitch face is no barrier to higher office.
Same for women, I mean look at Kamala Harris. She’s got ‘insufferable bitch’ figuratively written all over her face.
You know how jazz guys talk about how some rock guys don’t swing?
Joel isn’t a jazz guy, but he just doesn’t rock. It’s like he’s playing the notes but it doesn’t rock. I bet if Springsteen covered Billy Joel songs, somehow they would rock.
hopefully an asteroid would strike earth before that happened, and we’d never learn the truth

Okay, about that FEE story you guys posted yesterday. Which one of you is posting to Hihn as Milton_Hayek?
God, Hihn is such an insufferable cunt.
BULLY!
(snickers)
He is a top grade ass isn’t he? He has to be the only person I’ve interacted with on the internet that I actually hate.
Nay, Hihn is too batshit insane to truly hate. Honestly I feel a little sorry for him. He’s just such an easy target.
Yeah, this. Hihn is nuts. I feel bad for the guy. You have sympathy for people with broken arms or broken kidneys, you should have sympathy for people with broken brains.
I’d be willing to bet his being a prick predates his insanity.
Just look at the guy’s latest responses to me. I did actually try to be a little serious for him, and what does he do? MORE AGGRESSION! I ONLY CALL PEOPLE WITH DIFFERENT OPINIONS GOOBERS IN SELFDEFENSE, BECAUSE A DIFFERENT OPINION IS AGGRESSION! The guy truly has several screws loose. For accusing everyone else of stalking him, he sure responds to my posts really quickly. Guess it really triggered him that I clicked follow on his disqus profile.
There is a reason for empty visiting rooms at mental hospitals. Yeah, they are crazy and cant really be held responsible but their families and friends just burn out after a while. You can only take so much of that shit.
I hope you called him Tulpa and then left. He’d still be replying to his own comments.
But Suthenboy is right, you should pity someone like that. I would, but he never put me on his list. So fuck him.
*Sulks*
Hey, I don’t think he ever revealed all the names on his list, so you might be on it.
Yep. It’s pretty easy to mellow out about Hihn when you recognize that he’s clearly either senile or mentally ill. Then it’s just sad.
NAKED AGGRESSION
That cash for clunkers crap just gets my irritated every damn time I read about. So many things wrong with it that it’s hard to hold onto a thought without being distracted by another thing that it screwed up.

Also, I mercilessly ridiculed my sister about this kind of ignorance before. Don’t be like my sister, guys.
As long as it is with a Mexican immigrant.
some people just like it more than others?
Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.
Also Mr. Riven is one lucky SOB.
about half of my girlfriends over the years were fans.
If this journalist doesn’t get a Pulitzer Prize for that shit, no-one should get one.
Male Feminist Gamers Clutch Pearls Over Female Video Game Character Outfits
Are we sure these are even gamers?
Are we sure they are male?
Duh, this is the internet.
Where the men are men, the women are men, and the boys are FBI agents?
Are we sure they can even?
Wait till they see Leisure Suit Larry!
Ken sent me.
white man gunning down Africans” is “racist” because it’s set in Africa.
SJWs: don’t watch Zulu
i thought Zulu was the white slaughter and Zulu Dawn was the rematch.
Reminded me of a Danish TV channel, named “TV2 Zulu”.
This is their logo.
Even better animated. Wait for the drum music at the end.
In this spot they’re giving away tickets for some event to blood donors. Their slogan is “Ta’ Billetten”, which translates to “Take the Ticket” – It’s a colloquialism for dying, like “Bite the Bullet”.
Look up any YouTube video on the new Call of Duty World War II. You’ll see what male gamers think of female characters. The new call of duty has female soldiers fighting on the American side to appease the SJWs and gamers don’t like it.
You need to get woke, the invasion of Normandy was all about the bitches!
Well that would be realistic thousands of dogs served in World War 2.
What’s sad is that SJWs don’t actually buy video games.* Attempts at appeasement garner no sales from the effort, and risks alienating the existing audience. Especially when that audience feels either ignored or insulted.
*We have sales data to back that up.
like when McDonald’s loses revenue by adding menu items to appease people who never actually eat at McDonald’s (and never will).
I remember back during the whole gamergate controversy, a lot of women and POC posting #notyourshield to protest SJWs trying to SJWify games.
From what I’ve heard, that’s just the multiplayer customization that lets you play as a black female Nazi if you want to. That’s not actually put into the campaign, is it?
A mod maybe?
This is what I heard as well. From my understanding, they’re going for some level of authenticity for the campaign.
The new call of duty has black female soldiers fighting on the German side to appease the SJWs and gamers don’t like it.
Fixed it for you. I mean, Christ, if you’re going to do that just drop the pretext of being a WW2 game and just made something up, like Killzone. This is just embarrassing.
These people need to be told ‘Git gud, you fagooots!’ by a 10 year old.
That’s an unbearable way to be waken up. I don’t know what else to say.
But I know what else to do.
*narrows gaze*
Feminist Literature, for Kids
In the continued push for gender equality, authors are telling the stories of remarkable women more than ever. And it’s about time.
Oh fuck off
Write about Boudicca, or the queen of who defeated Cyrus the Great. But if you keep writing about Hillary, girls will want to emulate a nobody who never did anything for any woman that wasn’t in some way useful to herself.
*psst*… Boudica Lost.
Yeah, but her losing was way more badass than when Hillary did it. Twice.
I’m pretty sure Luther from the Rogues killed Cyrus.
+3 beer bottles tapping
Bunjitsu Bunny and Interstellar Cinderella for 3-6. Bunjitsu Bunny basically just kicks ass (literally beating people up) throughout all three books. My daughter loves that series.
Mechanica for pre-teen. My wife screened it. Some smooching and death.
Have not read the Rebel Girls or She Persisted yet but have them. I’m interested to see if they can hold my daughter’s attention, i.e. are they actually a good kids book.
When my nieces get a little bit older I plan on buying them the Tiffany Aching books. It’s very feminist, just not in a way that most feminists would agree with. Take your head out of your ass, don’t fall for BS, But don’t be afraid Bs if that’s what it takes to do the job, and there are a lot of dirty jobs out there that need doing, so don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and do those jobs.
This is from a few days ago, but when one of the most far left figures to ever be in Congress is telling you that the Democratic Party is destroying itself, that’s saying something. Of course, reading what he’s all about, he’s one of the only actual true believers that thinks he can win the battle of ideas.
I have heard him interviewed a few times in the past month or so. I was never a fan of his due to him being a pretty huge prog, but at least he is not bat shit crazy like the rest of his team is at the moment.
He’s the quintessential safe-seat leftist, but more of the Trotsky wing than the BLM/Antifa/Intersectional wing. Which is why he was pushed out of the cool kids circle.
At least they haven’t icepicked him, yet.
Ice Ax !
The democratic party is destroying itself. No shit. Fill your ranks with brainwashed useful idiots and your party becomes dysfunctional. Who could have seen that coming?
The difference is that Kucinich thinks that the road to single-payer utopia is “Work with Trump to stop the neocons and to quit paying for the regime change wars, THEN push for that single payer!” That’s obviously not popular thinking for the “Trump is a danger to democracy!” types.
Yep. Kucinich, for all his faults, is actually a democrat, i.e. he believes in supporting the democratic function of the state. That means working with a fairly elected Trump however he can in the hopes of getting his policies established later on. The other ‘Democrats’ however, only have an interest in the democratic stage when it goes their way, and if it doesn’t the response to completely reject who’s in power.
This IS, In Fact, Literally Hitler

Teen Vogue’s bizarre anal sex article shows women are still being defined in relation to men
Isn’t this kinda heavy for a teen magazine?
OMWC vigorously disagrees.
What, and next you’ll be saying they shouldn’t be showing kids how to properly shoot heroin in the magazine.
Degeneracy is in vogue right now.
I read that NYT piece about the meeting at Trump Tower yesterday. It had the r/politics crowd in a lather that this is the final straw, and people are turning others in. I then read the Circa article this morning. What struck me was the omission of any links to Fusion GPS in the times article. I don’t know if I have ever read a times article mentioning them and their ties to Clinton cronies.
Disregard. The NYT article does mention them, and then says Fusion GPS has denied any connection to arranging the meeting. Who knows.
It doesn’t matter if fusion involved or not.
Oppo research isn’t illegal as I can tell. This isn’t collusion or conspiracy or whatever the progs claim it is
If Fusion was involved, this makes it a Dem attempt to manufacture a Trump scandal.
So it’s not totally irrelevant.
I mean irrelevant in the sense that what don jr did was illegal or collusion or whatever
Oppo research is pretty common.
Progs don’t have a problem when it is a guy like Steele making it
I know oppo research is not illegal, it would just be interesting if Fusion, on the payroll of Clinton cronies, was making arrangements to meet with the Trump team saying they had dirt on Clinton. That gets into some weird territory imho. It all might be nothing, and the people in these circles all know and do work for each other and loose ties can exist all over the place. There are so many stinky/crooked people involved here it is mind boggling.
There is no issue with that meeting. Oppo research is pretty common as times notes but rare from someone affiliated with a foreign gov. The lawyer with kremlin ties is a bit dubious claiming she is a kremlin person…she represented some state owned enterprises
Also don jr did not know her name before hand and he thought it might be about info regarding dnc being funded ironically by folks connected to Russia
Funny progs think Chris Steele who is former British intel…the pissgate dossier is noble and brave oppo research
Reading this piece I couldn’t tell if I was reading The Post or The Onion. The author suggesting young male joblessness is voluntary and due to video games. And the big problem with that is that it denies women suitable marriage prospects.
I feel dumber having read it.
Women and minorities hardest hit!
Should we dismiss all this if these men say they’re happy? Heroin addicts are happy, too, as long as they’re high
aaaaand I’m done reading that.
Oh of course. It’s a story about male joblessness, but somehow women are always the real victims! Those poor women, having less options for men that make more than they do.
They complain about a (poorly calculated) statistical differential and yet still want men who make more than them?
Of course. Logic is not these women’s strong suit. They want to be paid just as much as men for easier and less dangerous jobs than men take, but they wouldn’t dare marry a man who makes less than they do. He’s supposed to be the provider afterall, right? But don’t you dare expect her to fill any of the traditional female gender roles. Because that’s just sexist!
The sort of behavior you’re talking about is the ranting of a spoiled little girl. A certain type of girl has the luxury of going to college to study the humanities. She’s probably never had to work terribly hard and has been able to count on daddy to make her every irrationality somehow work out. There she encounters an ideology that she’s special and daddy owes her everything she’s been given. It tells her that her failures of logic aren’t really failures of logic, but injustices imposed on her by an unjust patriarchy. It tells her that no one has any right to judge her for being a slut, but all men are rapists, even if their “rape” consists of staring at their bared breasts. In short, it tells her the world owes her something. And that helps assuage their daddy issues.
We just have to start allowing polygamy. Top men or bust don’t you even feminism.
When men are killed in wars, the true victims are the wives they leave behind.
Not all soldiers have wives you homophobe!
These days they get some pretty sweet benefits.
He has a problem distinguishing cart from horse, but it seems fair to say that video games help anesthetize the pain of being a young man without a career, and therefore without much to offer women. Mises goes on a bit in that vein: we’re not motivated to work primarily by greed but by dissatisfaction. Dissatisfaction is a necessary motivator for undertaking the grueling training or grunt work to become a suitable provider. To the extent that video games help to fill that void, video games are a stumbling block for young men faced with the daunting prospect of years of school or drudgery working their way up the rungs.
That said, it’s not gaming to blame but the abject failure of our public schools and labor laws and the drive to put everyone through college.
I laughed pretty hard at this.
Haha! Smart little bastard.
A libertarian is born?
A final solution to a moral problem.
I am saving that. They next time someone posts some bullshit philosophical question like that one, I will just post that as my answer.
With boys the answer is always “whatever cause the most destruction.”
You know who else used trains to kill people?
Dastardly Whiplash?
James Deen?
Damien Thorn?
Alec Guiness?
Indian campaigners protest over sanitary pad and tampon tax
12%. That’s bloody ridiculous.
I don’t know, Sloop, I think you gotta go with the flow.
An unnecessary tax to just pad the state’s coffers.
But there are strings attached!
Don’t want to attend that Boston Tea party.
There’s no water left in the bay?
12%
That’s blood money flowing to the state coffers.
They have to pad the treasury somehow, and I am sure there are strings attached on discharges.
12% is the maxi they can be taxed though, right? Local govts can’t pad that rate any more?
India notoriously has the most byzantine sales tax regime int the world. 12% is actually at the lower end of the rate schedule which ranges up to 18%
And I think one of the lowest tax compliance rates, hence the recent crusade there against cash. I think I see it… it’s almost as if tax rates and tax compliance are inversely related… nope it’s gone.
As I understand it (from my ERP provider), the rules are so complex and there are so many filing agencies that the overhead of compliance directly causes the low compliance rate.
There is nothing funny about paying taxes. Period.
And here women talk about the “tampon tax” just because men don’t have periods and thus don’t have to spend their own money on tampons.
California has now banned state funded travel to Kentucky because they watch A Charlie Brown Christmas – unedited!
It would be hilarious if UCLA has to forfeit football or basketball games because of this nonsense.
I was under the impression that they had so many exemptions built into that rule that it was meaningless.
Good grief, who am I going to get to make this?
“”The story begins with “A Charlie Brown Christmas” when the W.R. Castle Elementary School in Johnson County, Kentucky deleted Linus reading passages from the New Testament. The ACLU took an anti-Charlie position. The Charlie Brown Bill was introduced to protect the religious freedom of students in Kentucky schools. The ACLU again objected. The bill passed over furious Democrat opposition.
Lefty publications dubbed it an anti-gay bill even though there was no mention of homosexuality anywhere in it.”
SMDH
I’m wish this would happen to Utah and be extended to everyone living in California. Quarantine the disease.
Unless the Indians or Red Sox go on a roll, no one is playing on the level of the Astros or Dodgers at the moment. Holy smoke, Houston’s offense is potent. A .288 avg. with the next best team (Boston) at .268? And an OPS of nearly. .85. Lord that’s power. Plus they have solid pitching. The Dodgers are equally as dominant but on the pitching side where era/whip are concerned. The only team I see that can take out L.A. is Washington.
*looks at Phillies record*
*laughs to hide the pain*
The Red Sox thrashed the Astros when they played – before stumbling into the All-Star break with a losing streak against Tampa.
Props to Canada for winning the FIBA U-19 over Italy; first time ever. For any major basketball tournament since 1936. They beat the USA in the semis to get to the finals. I’m noticing a trend. We’re seeing more and more American born players be drafted first overall in the NHL to the point it’ll be a normal thing while Canada is producing world class basketball players. Apparently this R.J. Barrett kid is the real deal and his size is NBA ready.
Sloopy, I cycle and follow cycling. I’m more partial to the Giro and Vuelta than the TDF personally. Not enough action with the TDF and little lead changes because of stupid unwritten rules so the attacking is at a minimum. I would love to see a guy like Aru challenge Froome but it’s not likely because if Froome gets a flat, the rule is everyone needs to wait for him.
The only team I see that can take out L.A. is Washington.
Are they gonna start playing 6 inning games?
Seriously, though, the Dodgers will collapse like usual. Their strength will become a weakness in the playoffs and they’ll be out in the NLCS.
Fun fact – the Astros are a mere 9.5 games behind the 1998 Yankees pace. 61-20, bitches.
But my congratulations to the Astros – seven years of tanking finally paid off!
“The only team I see that can take out L.A. is Washington.”
Wake me when they win a playoff series despite being the heavy favorites every year. I was too young, but watching this Washington team helps me make sense of looking at the Mariners teams with Randy Johnson, Griffey, Edgar Martinez, and A-Rod and wondering how they never made more noise in the playoffs.
+1 Washington Capitals, St. Louis Blues….and Atlanta Braves.
Hiya, glibs? You want a Monday morning nutpunch? No? Well fuck you, you’re getting one anyways.
http://www.startribune.com/video-shows-minneapolis-police-officer-shooting-two-dogs-in-north-minneapolis-yard/433481333/
Tl;dr: 18 year old kid of homeowner accidentally sets off home alarm. Alarm company calls, it’s confirmed that the alarm was an error, alarm was cancelled.
45 minutes later, cops show up, despite alarm having been cancelled. Instead of knocking on door, officer jumps fence, and then shoots both of homeowner’s dogs (neither of which was trying to attack him). Luckily enough he’s a terrible enough shot that the dogs are both still alive, but they need expensive surgery. After THAT, the cop’s partner knocks on the front door.
(I’d say “And nothing else will happen”, but that really does go without saying at this point)
If dogs are man’s best friend, what does this make cops?
Targets, one hopes.
Sooner or later, there will be an incident like this – then the dogs’ owner hears the shot and emerges from the home with an AR and starts returning fire. I hope I’m on the jury.
I’m pretty sure you (as in you, personally) would have to lie during the jury selection process to get selected for any jury.
The kid was lucky he wasn’t in the yard.
Unfucking believable.
Typical. Police. Behavior.
All procedures were followed. Training was followed.
This is what they do.
Fuck.
No shit. The dog is wagging its tail as Officer Kill Canine unload on him. Barf. That is fucking sick.
The dogs smelled the bacon and thought they were getting a treat from Officers Fuck and Suck.
Procedures followed
Shit, I linked to the same story below. Sounds like the Strib did a better job of writing why they were there.
But no comments. Cowards.
Check the Minneapolis PD’s Facebook page. Overwhelmingly against the police, with a few Tulpae mixed in.
https://www.facebook.com/MinneapolisPoliceDepartment/photos/a.209478567515.176804.197191512515/10156479339902516/?type=3&theater
The irony is that I think shooting dogs will be the catalyst for reform. People care waaaaaay more about dogs than their fellow tax cattle.
I love dogs too, but that is the sad truth. Cops shoot a person? “Ah, he had it coming, should’ve followed the officers’ orders!” They shoot the victim’s dog(s)? “Disgusting behavior!” But hey, if it’ll lead to some much needed police reform, that’s a good thing.
CLM!
Canine Lives Matter
Wolves and Coyotes too?
I’m not going to support that.
Well, if CLM is anything like BLM, they will riot anytime some rancher shoots a wolf that has just killed some of his livestock. They will ignore all stories like this one where an innocent house pet is killed for no reason.
They will also protest by shitting all over city sidewalks, getting dog crap all over the shoes of people who would normally be on their side.
And then they would propose the complete destruction of capitalism as the only possible solution to the problem.
this video has the exact same sentiment don’t shoot the fucking dog
Check out the pic at the top of their page. I’m pretty sure that cop is getting ready to show those kids how to strangle a dog with your bare hands.
a few Tulpae
There is no plural for Tulpa, as there is only one.
And half of you are him.
Holy fuck. I’m pissed at myself for watching that. Gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. And a burning rage towards that fucking cop
Yep. That is worse than what you often see on Live Leak.
The “good” thing about this kind of incident is that every time, a few more people learn the golden rule: Never call the cops. A sample comment:
“And some call him pig.”
BTW, that’s just nine blocks from my house. And I too have a dog.
so many of you from Minnesota, and yet it’s such a proggy state
Should have already had this training.
Unfortunately, they’ve had this training.
Good heavens. The dogs weren’t even remotely threatening. The second seems to have charged but not that menacingly probably because the idiot shot the other dog.
But wasn’t he just following procedures? I thought cops are allowed to this if they feel their lives are in danger. I’m guessing nothing will come of this. Unfortunately.
And, if you RTFA, these were “emotional support dogs” for the two sons who have “severe anxiety”. Yep, having those dogs shot by the cops will totally help with that anxiety.
Witnessing the murder of your pets is bound to help with any anxiety conditions the children may have.
There are just too many stories of police going out of their way to kill dogs. Shooting dogs must be part of police culture. There is no other explanation.
My brother is an LAPD lieutenant and dog lover.
Some years ago we talked about this subject. He said the problem is with city raised guys who are generally afraid of dogs. He has always been hard on his guys about this, but in an unofficial way.
There’s definitely a ‘thin blue line’ thing that goes on with this. Taking official action would be “counter to the brotherhood”.
“45 minutes later, cops show up”
You see, you gun nuts, this is why you don’t need guns, we have cops!
This shit will never stop until cops are made personally liable for their crimes & misdeeds.
Common sense knife control needed for Canuck
Umm why isn’t that bird dead?
To combine two stories here… two domesticated dogs are shot dead for no reason other than they were in the presence of a police officer vs a wild animal with verified attacks on people is allowed to live and is celebrated with pages following it.
Also, Canadian postal… Toughen up buttercup.
No more mail. Nevermore.
Huh. Who knew coffee could shoot that far out of someone’s nose…
Only $35 million? Rio should count themselves lucky.
Wasn’t Montreal’s debt after 1976 about $1 billion?
The response of a city to the IOC should be “Pay us to host the games and cover the costs out of your budget.”
The IOC was pissed at Atlanta for not creating a financial nightmare.
My uncle is a very conservative guy (Southern Methodist, the strict kind), and usually hates the city of Atlanta’s government with a passion (since they’ve mostly been Dems for the past 30 years, although there have been some splits and some GOP administrations), but he loved the fact that the IOC was so mad at them for not hugely overspending on the ’96 games.
We just finished paying it off a few years back.
Want to see a classic textbook case of incompetence, corruption and cronyism? Read that story.
And Canada didn’t even get a single gold medal out of it.
Did they get a participation trophy instead?
Not even.
But thankfully the mentality has changed. It wasn’t enough to just ‘participate’ anymore. It was time to spend on amateur programs. When we do, the results are good. Very strong in the winters games and not bad in the summer though there’s work to be done there.
Canada can be naive where the Olympics are concerned. I remember listening to someone on the COC explaining it wasn’t about the medals but focusing on stuff like sportsmanship and whatever.
People started to say, ‘er it is about the medals and it doesn’t hurt to try to be first’.
A not funny story about local cop shooting two dogs.
No details on why he was in the back yard of someone’s house. Unfortunately for him the owner has a pretty good video of him shitting his pants.
Fortunately both dogs are still alive, but the owner is facing some hefty vet’s bills.
You trying to hit both of our nuts?
Do you even refresh your shit, bro?
See my post a couple above yours.
I dunno why you’d trust a lying video over the word of a cop though. Procedures. Were. Followed.
I’d apologize, but why are you jumping into our local news man? Like that is our Minnesoda beat and you are hogging it.
Venn diagram of Jimbo / Tundra geographical turf vs. JB cops nut punch turf.
The Glib nutpunch beat is mine, regardless of geographical area.
::eyes go wide::
So… you’re saying you like to work the balls?
Thankfully, that seems to be ending, with cities pulling out of the running for the Olympics left and right. The only two cities up for 2024 are Paris and Los Angeles, and whichever one doesn’t get 2024 will get 2028. The ’84 LA Olympics is still the only one that didn’t operate at a loss.
Atlanta also.
And a few others from the chart on wikipedia.
I’m rooting for the bears
They need to get that QB situation worked out.
The Drudge Report says I have to turn off Adblock in order to access their page. Eat shit, Drudge. And they claim to be like the second most hit website, but I’ve always figured it was because they counted every one minute refresh as a hit. Bye, bye, Drudge.
Yeah, what is that? I just noticed last weekend. I’d be very interested to see what happens to their numbers.
I’m with you. No way I’m turning off adblock for any site.
I hate advertisements. It’s an instinctive, irrational reaction. I make an effort to avoid products which have been advertised to me, simply out of spite. This is made easier by all the effort I take to avoid adverts in the first place.
If a site wants to go “no content for you” because of an adblocker, I will go “okay” and drop them off my browsing.
I’m still trying to reconsile this with “if you provided something I’d be willing to buy” and the caveat that they’d have to not advertise it…
Long story short – I’m a terrible person and an awful customer.
If they had unobtrusive ads it’d be something I could live with but Drudge’s ad service is as obnoxious as it gets.
Amazon’s Kindles are a great example of how to do it. I get $20 or so off my Kindle and when it is off there is an ad. That seriously is the only ads I ever notice.
I paid the higher price to not have the intrusion. Twice.
I am sad that my Kindle Keyboard died. I havne’t found a way to disable the screensaver on the voyage yet. (you could enter debug commands in the keyboard version, but they don’t seem to work on the Voyage). Plus the touchscreen is an irritant. And I liked the physical page turning controls. I’m never sure what the voyage is going to do when I try to get it to just turn the page a given direction.
The ads are so unobtrusive, that I always go with that option.
I agree with you about the touch screens. I have the Paper White and love it except that going back a page is always an adventure. Why the can’t have the two physical buttons is beyond me.
All those things, and more, are why I decided to buy a (several, actually) Kobo instead.
I was going to pay to get the ads on my kindle turned off before I realized how entertainingly bad the books being advertised were…
I find them quite entertaining, as well. It is as if the algorithm works expressly to suggest books that are the exact opposite of what i read.
I was there a couple days ago. Perhaps even yesterday. But now it’s telling me to turn off adblock.
Drudge without Adblock is constant popups, autoplay, and redirects that’ll lock up your browser. I’ll look for a workaround but, barring that, screw them.
I’ve never gone to drudge without Adblocker running. Is this something they haven’t hit Safari users with or something?
It happened to me first time yesterday, but I am on firefox. The Dallas news makes me turn it off if I want to read a link.
I turned off adblock but kept my scriptblocker on. Works for removing the ads and keeping the content.
update: My adblocker is also on. No messages from Drudge about it. I imagine NoScript is somehow stopping that.
*Non computer geek raises hand
What is no script?
These very helpful folks
Mozilla add-on. When visiting a site, you can set permissions for what data/scripts/sites are allowed. It’s effectively blocks ads, pop-ups, and a whole bunch of other nasties. Also a pain to use since you have to give permission to what you do want to allow. Sometimes it takes some experimentation to minimize the ads while seeing the content. But once in place it does make the internet experience a lot better.
Aah ok thanks.
I find them unreadable. I never go. I have a mouse and a keyboard. I will refresh the page when I am ready TYVM.
Brave is a great alternative but it doesn’t have the support for stuff like Tampermonkey and Monocle yet.
Suck on this, scUM.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison is ranked in the top 200 schools nationwide and ranked as the #1 school in Wisconsin. Students enjoy a large and diverse campus, as well as higher than average starting salaries upon graduation.
UW. Top of the Wisconsin State University System or as we call it, WeSUC. *Alumni full disclosure.
I would enjoy watching Harbaugh and Meyer fight to the death in a cage match.
While I hate them with a passion, Stamford should obviously be #1 on the list.
I think you have to be decent at football to get recognized. Hence Stanford’s exclusion.
We were at #9. And Stanford has generally been better than us the last decade.
Historically, not even close, but these things usually think 2010 is ancient history.
It doesn’t really matter to me where Stanford or Georgia Tech ends up. (Although I’m going to take my sone to visit Georgia Tech in a couple weeks on our way to a dive meet in Charlotte, I think.)
All that matters is that we’re #1 and TTUN didn’t make the list.
Crossing streams, the GT natatorium is the 1996 olympic natatorium.
Oh cool. His old high school pool in CA was the Olympic practice pool for polo. But it would be neat to get to dive in one where the olympics were actually contested.
To be fair, TTUN isn’t a terrible school to get a degree from. I surmise they’re not on the list because the football hasn’t been consistently good for the past decade.
Here’s the thing — I live in Cbus and the wife works at OSU. I’m not Buckeye born-and-raised however. I don’t like Michigan, don’t root for them, but I kind of dig Harbaugh because he’s such a weirdo, and I think he’s good for the rivalry.
Stanford plays in the toughest conference in the NCAA (yes I said it) and is usually near the top.
This horrifying large and athletic kid graduated from High School near me and committed to Stanford – giving me very mixed feelings.
Glass ceiling almost broken.
The Patriarchy kept her down because of all its rules and regulations:
Super congrats to her. Refreshing to see all of them not really care about the record. They have the memory.
Now, I’m waiting for Jezebel or someone to really bitch about how she should have the record but doesn’t because of sexism.
That’s a monster. Gotta love they don’t tell you what she was using. So Minnesoda.
That’s exactly why I read the article!
Great story!
I’ll bet it was a big sucker minnow.
A Canadian guide told my dad the best way to catch the huge muskies that were as long as the canoe and completely ignored anything having to do with their fishing gear..
Sneak up to the fish from shore, then pitch a baby duck with a big treble hook from shore.
Issue: If the Canadian version of fish & game catches you, they’ll take your house and throw you in jail.
None of the feminist sites will touch this. Do you think they want to whine and bitch and then interview this girl and have her tell them she doesn’t give a fuck?
And she’s fit and cute. A traitor!
That is probably what will do her in. If she was 250lb and an axe handle across in the ass and wearing a vomit inducing bikini, then the feminists would leap to her cause. Blaming it on fat shaming and the patriarchy.
https://media.licdn.com/mpr/mpr/shrinknp_400_400/p/6/000/1df/2c8/31fa826.jpg
Would.
The idea of self-reliance is not all that prevalent in Jezebel, I’m guessing.
Yeah, that fits my understanding. My guess is that their position would be something along the lines of:
Well, that’s all well and good for this gender traitor, but what about the injustice of the fresh caught fish gap, generally. Millions of women lack the self-esteem building experience of having caught their own fresh fish. This is a discrepancy that the patriarchy imposes upon millions of women. And it can only be corrected by a fresh fish redistribution program. The government has a responsibility to ensure that women are given record muskies that they can claim as their own catch, with the cost paid for by licensing fees on sportfishing, which everyone knows is a barbaric ritual of cis-hetero white men trying to promote their dick size by re-enacting hunter-gatherers.
When I was about ten years old my mother caught a world record large mouth bass. 24 lbs 2 oz. No shit. She caught it at night with a damned cane pole on a worm and a #6 hook. The damned thing didn’t even fight. She was fishing for bream. The instant it hooked and she pulled it just hopped in the boat on its own. She didn’t even have to fight it. I remember cleaning that fish. I put my arm down its mouth and the teeth were more than half way up my biceps.
We had no idea what we had. We just ate it.
My buddy used to have a great story from the Strib hanging on his wall. It was a story about a guy who caught a monster muskie on a local lake. He was a tourist and decided to go fishing on a whim. Rented a boat/rod/tackle went out not knowing what to do and caught this huge muskie. Near state record levels. The best part of the article was the guy’s answers to questions: “I had a really small boat and I couldn’t keep up with those other guys and their fancy boats. I was trying to follow them because I figured they knew where to go.” “I’d be happy to tell you what I caught the fish on, but I really don’t know its name. It sort of looked like a big minnow? It was already tied on the rod”
It was one of those stories that real muskie fisherman read and cried.
That’s funny.
The chances of winning the lottery are astronomical and yet someone always manages to win.
I caught a few dozen bass in the 2 to 3 pound range a fee years back and transplanted them to my pond.
This is no record, but I pulled this out of my pond on the 4th. There are a bunch in there about that size.
http://imgur.com/XzaoYEN
nice
Go to the bait stand weekly and put a couple of hundred minnows in your pond. They will double in size in no time.
There is a ton of bream and perch in my pond. I’m pretty sure that’s what their primary diet has been. I have put minnows in there, but never on that scale. Maybe I can start being more aggressive with feeding and really get some monsters.
The bream and perch are great for my boy to catch. I can take him out there, dig up some earthworms, bait his hook and he will be getting bites in less than a minute every time. He loves it.
If bream (or bluegills as they are known in civilized areas) grew to be 2lb, you would need tuna tackle to catch them.
I love catching sunnies and bluegills on ultra-ultra-light tackle. I have a short pole and 2lb test with tiny jigs on. I catch blue gills in a local lake from my kayaks. They are mostly too small to keep, but it is so much fun on tackle that light. A lot of times, other fisherman will see me battling from across the lake with their Norwegian fish finders (aka binoculars) and come over to horn in on the action. Then they realize how even tiny bluegills can bend my rod and go back to trying to catch walleyes.
When I was stationed in Kansas, the house we rented had a pond with hybrid bluegill.
Some of them ran up to well over a pound.
And you’re exactly right. A whole lot of fight in those fish.
As to putting minnows in your pond, you need to be careful about the type.
Some “minnows” can grow into big predators like shad, that will hurt your game fish. Need to be sure they are really minnows, like fatheads.
So the stories are true? I thought Jesse was just trying to embarrass you.
Nice, but what is the rod doing in the background? I thought you were a razorback? Shouldn’t you be fishing with dynamite?
I only do that on public waters. I don’t want to fuck up my own pond.
I hate advertisements. It’s an instinctive, irrational reaction. I make an effort to avoid products which have been advertised to me, simply out of spite. This is made easier by all the effort I take to avoid adverts in the first place.
I don’t have a particular hatred for ads. I get it. You need revenue. I only installed an adblocker as a direct response to the Before Place’s goddam autoplay video ads. Every fucking time you refreshed the page…
It’s a never ending arms race. Ad blockers stops one thing, the advertisers get a workaround. And on and on. but it has gotten to the point where a tremendous number of websites are just unusable. You’d think somebody might get the hint.
Yep, both autoplays and ads so heavy on buggy scripts that they effectively prevent the page from ever loading. Looking at you, Daily Caller.

Or catch them and sell them to research labs. Aren’t Rhesus monkeys one of the key lab monkeys for research purposes?
bush meat?
I turned off adblock but kept my scriptblocker on.
Tell me more.
For Mozilla there is an add-on called NoScript.
Pros: It stops scripts on the websites from running. So, for example, with “That Previous Site” I never saw any of the advertising at all. And everything runs faster when it isn’t bogged down trying to load data from multiple locations.
Cons: You have to give permissions to any site you visit – so the first time you use the add-on, it’s a hassle to allow some sites in while blocking others. Luckily it stores what sites you allow, so once you’re setup you’re ready to go. You can also temporarily give permissions for that session.
It does make web surfing a bit more painful but it does cut down on the spam, viruses, pop-ups, etc. Especially useful if visiting an unknown or suspicious site.
I use Brave which does all of that for you — however, it doesn’t currently have support for stuff like Tampermonkey/Greasemonkey — so no Monocle here.
DPRK News twitter hits a home run, referencing the “Linda Sarsour didn’t mean anything bad when she said jihad!” narrative.

I agree with those who have fervently wished for the Democrats to go all in with these defenses of jihad.
Same actions, same totalitarian objectives, just with slightly different flavors. That what the Left-Islam alliance is all about.
Wait, didn’t they want to get Trump booted for making threats?
People still take that account seriously. Makes me laugh every time.
They got the New York Times a couple of weeks ago.
Sean Spicier is another one that’s good at making the progs freak out.
Morning Glibs! The autists at /pol/ are hot on the trail of something very interesting. Worthwhile to check out. Here’s the rundown:
– Someone did an analysis of the DNC leaks
– found out the files were transfered at 23 MB/s (which means the emails were likely copied locally, not remotely)
– Turns out 23 MB/s is also consistent with a typical USB 2.0 transfer rate
– Files were copied on July 5th, 2016, five hours after Comey announced HRC would not be charged
– disgruntled Bernie Bro????
Link for those interested in following along: http://boards.4chan.org/pol/thread/133085720#p133085720
Looks like those crafty Russians managed to make it look like somebody copied it to a thumb drive.
Also, if this holds up it doesn’t say much for the FBI that they didn’t catch this.
I’m not sure the FBI even investigated this at all. As far as I know, the FBI offered to help the DNC investigate the leaks, the DNC said “no thanks”, and the FBI said “ok whatever” and then washed their hands of it.
Yep. The DNC had a private company do it for them. CrowdStrike, or something like that.
And then some others, but it’s not clear to me whether the others actually went in and looked around or whether the information was dumped on the other security companies and they confirmed the results.
How very perfectly named.
But then they had a “high degree of confidence” that the DNC was hacked. Somehow. It’s not clear how.
It doesnt matter. Seth Rich downloaded them onto a stick and gave it to Assange’s people. If you had a video of him doing it and then a video of him being murdered for it (the DNC knows who did it) the MSM would still be screaming that the Ruskies hacked the election.
Of course even if Putin himself hacked the DNC server and gave the emails to WikiLeaks, that’s still not hacking the election.
5 days before Seth Rich was
assassinated, executed, randomly murdered. So weird. Just life, you can’t explain it.
I wonder how many actual random murders (or attempted murders) they actually have in DC. Truly random murders or attempts are vanishingly rare. Could be Seth was just wrong place/wrong time, but its not the way to bet until you have really run down any other alternative.
The article about Comey has this “citation” :
Nope. That’s not a citation of a source I consider credible. No story.
Yeah, I had to hit the confirmation bias brakes on the sourcing.
Still, if nothing else, it gives you a possible dig at the anonymously sourced attacks on Trump et al.
RCD: Sorry, not buying it. Uncorroborated anonymous hearsay doesn’t do anything for me.
TDS: This is how journalism has to be done blah blah drone . . . .
RCD: So I guess Comey must have broken the law by leaking classified info to the press? Are you up for Comey going to jail, or do you think probation is enough?
TDS: [head asplodes]
Looks like it’s referring to the Guccifer 2.0 files, not the DNC hack.
The Forensicator specifically discusses the data that was eventually published by Guccifer 2.0 under the title “NGP-VAN.” This should not be confused with the separate publication of the DNC emails by Wikileaks. This article focuses solely on evidence stemming from the files published by Guccifer 2.0, which were previously discussed in depth by Adam Carter.
The DNC email release by Wikileaks was real. Nobody really knows who was behind Guccifer 2.0. The files are generally regarded to be cobbled together bullshit, possibly even an attempt to discredit actual leaks. Our “intelligence” community has posited that it was part of a Russian disinformation campaign, but they see (or pretend to see) Russians behind every corner.
Hillary is harder to kill than Rasputin – from The Hill, Hillary Clinton Looks for Her Role in Midterms
Hot buttery rolls?
She’s positioning herself for 2020. She’s like the fucking Terminator.
Obligatory.
She won’t get anywhere. No one wants to give money to a two-time loser, especially one that lost against a nobody and a random guy who threw his hat in the ring. Her connections and position of power in the Democrats has basically obliterated after the election, and now Obama is the go-to guy for your standard Democratic corruption and cronyism. Clinton’s done politically outside of some random seat she might be able to win in some Democratic stronghold so the left can claim a moral victory. She’ll never get near the Presidency again.
Except the DNC is made up of people who owe favors to the Clintons, and the Clintons owe them favors. The Clintons know where the bodies are buried, because they helped bury them. (Metaphorically speaking, I’m not saying the Clintons are accomplices to murders, just that they know a lot of dirt about the people in their orbit.) I wouldn’t be shocked If Hillary wins the super delegate count in 2020.
See Gilmore’s post below for the counterpoint to that, i.e. the fact that Democrats are still distancing themselves from her while the press continues to lap it up. It’s true that the Clintons know where the bodies are buried, the problems are that it only holds them a degree of power if they’re willing to expose it, and that the Democrats are likely to have dirt on her as well. Is Clinton willing to expose others at the cost of herself and ensure that she has zero chance of ever having political relevant again? I’m saying no, and I believe the Democrats are calling her bluff as well.
Those GOP attack ads just write themselves sometimes. You keep doing your thing, Hillary.
But, guys, are we sure, really sure, that Putin isn’t just Ras-Putin? I mean, he could be an undead lich!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SF will find a spot for her.
Hillary isnt going to be president. She wont be president today. She wont be president tomorrow. Not ever. Give it up bitch.
I agree, except for the last part. That is precisely why she shouldn’t stop. I want to see the delicious, delicious tears flow freely every time she runs up to kick the football and Lucy yanks it away.
The Russians yanked it away this time. We’ll see who gets blamed next.
Yeah, as much as I hate her, I want her to stick around and suffer, suffer, suffer as she hurts Team Blue.
I think the take-away from that story is the opposite of the way media are spinning it.
its not that she’s finding some important role in DNC mid-term politicking strategy…. its that she’s actually trying to beg one via going to the press with her desires…
…because the DNC literally won’t pick up the phone when she calls. because she’s cancer.
the theory she’s floating – that she won these districts during the presidential contest, ergo she should be able to help someone else win in a congressional challenge – strikes me as barely plausible.
who was it who voted for her in these places? it may be that they’re not the typical primary voters. maybe she could inspire a few to actually vote who normally never would. But would that offset the number who would vote against her candidate just because she appeared next to him?
its also worth noting – most of these districts (or half) were in California. How many republican congressmen from california are there? 14. out of 54 or something.
also with reflecting on: according to this, there’s not a single congressional district in california with a republican majority
http://www.latimes.com/politics/la-pol-ca-road-map-republican-congressional-districts-california-20170416-story.html
I’m doubtful about this article for a couple of reasons: first, I’m pretty sure that the top-two primaries have really distorted voter participation rates in that state, and have placed all of the voting power in the hands of the people who are registered as Democrats. Many of the red districts had lower conservative turnout because the choice for Senate was for 2 Democrats and the presidential vote was utterly meaningless in that state. Second, just because you aren’t registered as GOP doesn’t mean that you aren’t conservative.
I couldn’t get through 30 seconds of this cringefest

Maybe I missed it, but I don’t the the Ivanka sitting in for Trump story got much play here, and it really should get some attention–the progressive left is giving it a lot of ink.
For those of you who don’t know, during one of the G20 sit down, circle jerks, Trump got up to use the head, or whatever, and when he did, his daughter Ivanka got up and sat in his place at the table. It’s actually standard practice for an aid to sit in for a head of state when he or she has to leave the meeting for whatever reason, but I’ve heard this was during the part about global warming, and so the American progressive left denounced Trump for leaving and sending in Ivanka because . . . why not?
The progressives say Ivanka has no experience, no qualifications. She’s basically just a debutante sitting there at the negotiating table with the President of China, Putin, Merkel, Marcon, et. al. . . . blah, blah, blah, woof, woof!
That criticism is terribly misplaced for two reasons”
1) Ivanka is basically a progressive.
Ivanka believes in global warming. She opposed the U.S. pulling out of the Paris accord, quite vocally. Furthermore, she’s spearheading Trump’s parental leave mandate, which would require employers nationwide to give every parent 30 days of paid leave every time they either have a newborn or adopt a child. Obama is kicking himself right now because he didn’t think of it.
In other words, the progressives are basically criticizing Trump for handing over advisory power to a progressive.
2) They completely glossed over the most important criticism of Ivanka, which is that she’s not the hottest daughter of a president.
The hottest daughter of a president Is Kinga Duda, the daughter of the President of Poland. She’s the one in red in the following picture, the one that makes those two otherwise hot chicks look like peasants by comparison. The one that looks like she’s been carved out of ivory.
http://cdn.natemat.pl/c37ab801ae6a22071043c356552f6c0a,640,0,0,0.jpg
I appreciate a thicc chick. I’ve been with Latin women who could knock over a bus with their hips. But there’s something about that eastern European ballerina type. Maybe we should call them “thinn”.
Anyway, the important things to remember are that Ivanka is basically a progressive and she’s not as hot as Kinga Duda.
She looks like some kind of woodland elf-fairy.
She should get elf ear surgery.
The one in the middle looks like more fun.
Kinga Duda doesn’t always look like she’s on the red carpet on Oscar night.
But she can look like she’s on the red carpet on Oscar night if she wants to.
Ivanka is a casual progressive, but not really an actual prog. She’s more like a cocktail socialite with a friend circle that thinks her dad is icky because he doesn’t “CARE ABOUT DA POORZ!”
Still would
Ivanka, like lots of other women in her situation, do not live in the real world. It’s too easy to be a prog lite when you’re in that sort of sheltered situation.
I actually prefer the chick in the middle. I have a thing for long wavy hair. Especially when accompanied by a smile.
I dont remember if it was Schumer or Pelosi or some other prog piece of shit but they said “It doesnt matter what’s in it (trump care) we are going to fight it.”
This isnt about policy or principle it’s about Trump. It doesnt matter what he does.
Another reason why Kucinich was pushed out of the party mainstream even though he wants single payer utopia even harder than they do. Leftist politics have become “this president is EEEEEVIL!” rather than “their ideas are wrong”.
I think IT is on to me. I didn’t just get the “webpage undefined” error message.
I got “forbidden” from this link.
At the level of Ivanka and Kinga, there is no “better looking”.
I’m not usually superstitious but I’d keep her away from garlic and crucifixes.
Nice. But I bet the one in the middle is the most…um
…fun.
Does nobody like the one on the left? Philistines.
All yours. I’m sure she has a nice personality.
Oh, I would. She might be a step below the other two, but well above average.
So basically “TOP.MAN.(even if Trump)> woman” for these progs? I had it on good authority it was the other way around. I haz a confuse.
Some people have some money teachers want and it isn’t fair.

They may as well dress like women. They’re all pussies.
How do we know if that is a parody or not?
I’m thinking it’s real because a parody would have had better scripting and delivery.
No, boston antifa is a parody account
https://itsgoingdown.org/eugene-alt-right-trolls-behind-boston-antifa-exposed/
that is, at least these antifa retards say it is. they might be a parody account as well. wheels within wheels.
There’s a number of parody antifa accounts. Beverly Hills Antifa is the one I follow.
OK, but then they are awfully poor comics. I guess maybe the underacting was trying to make it seem real.
But yes, being beyond parody, it’s Poe’s Law all the way down.
Some of my favorite posts are captions like: “Our brave warriors are taking the fight to the FASCISTS” at such-and-such place. Then a photo of a bunch of pasty-white, doughy upper-middle-class kids wearing black bandanas.

File under: No Shit
Ms. Rao, 44, who has served in all three branches of the federal government, brings to the position knowledge of Washington, a lengthy Republican contacts list and scholarly credentials from the ideologically charged field of regulatory study.
She is the founder of the Center for the Study of the Administrative State at George Mason, which is affiliated with the law school and has been a beneficiary of the donation from the Charles Koch Foundation. Ms. Rao started the center two years ago at a time of growing scholarly intrigue about the regulatory process and the authority of federal agencies to set and enforce rules, a section of the law that rose to prominence during the New Deal era.
———-
Some progressive advocates are skeptical Ms. Rao will intervene to curb deregulation.
“I don’t think her background should lead anybody to expect her to stand up to Donald Trump, Steve Bannon and the ‘deconstruction of the administrative state,’” said Amit Narang, a regulatory policy advocate with the liberal-leaning organization Public Citizen. “Her background makes me think she’s going to fast-track all of that.”
Hmmm. A person picked by Trump to oversee his “rollback” of the regulatory state probably won’t do what Public Citizen wants. Shocking.
This confirmation battle is going to be fun. A wrongthinker on the pyramid that want a rollback of the regulatory state and is friendly to kulaks? I predict a party-line vote.
Dude draining the swamp chooses a demolitions expert. Swamp critters skeptical that she will help shore up the levy. Imagine that.
Correction, there are 4 branches of the government.
— Signed WaPo
Public Citizen is only liberal “leaning”? OK.
The way a drunk leans on a lamppost for support.
OMG!
Over the past decade, Ms. Rao established herself as a legal scholar on the law school faculty at George Mason in Fairfax, Va., just outside Washington. She has written papers on a number of topics, including Congress’s delegation of authority to federal agencies, her view that so-called independent agencies — like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau — should answer to the president, and that dignity under the law is best derived from freedom and individualism, not government intervention.
She has also taught courses on constitutional law, as well as legislation and statutory interpretation, while recently pairing with Justice Thomas to teach a class that was listed in the school’s course schedule as History and Foundation of the Administrative State.
She’s like some sort of anarcho-libertarian bomb thrower. We’re doomed.
So Trump campaigns on the closest thing to a libertarian platform than any candidate in memory, gets elected and enacts exactly what he said he was going to do and phony baloney libertarians everywhere freak the fuck out.
It is worth pointing out again that one of the best thing Trump has done is get so many to throw off their masks.
“dignity under the law is best derived from freedom and individualism, not government intervention.”
Oh please let her truly believe that. I would be so happy.
Dude, haven’t you heard? Trump is worse than Hitler.
We’ve pondered making up some Glibertarians hats, but are afraid whichever one of you this was would have kept it on when you went haywire.
Not me. I spent all weekend in Tucson, complaining about the local driving habits.
I’ve driven in a lot of cities that are supposed to have bad drivers (yeah, Boston, looking at you), but Tucson has the absolute fucking worst, hands down.
I think its the city’s transient population. It literally attracts stupid drivers from all over the country who are constantly avoiding pedestrians–and pothole! I’ve seen worse roads in the south, but I’ve also seen better ones in the middle east.
Ah, the roads. Borderline third world in a lot of the city. So bad that Mrs. Dean didn’t want to drive the Good Car on them, and we traded it in for another FJ Cruiser, which is the right vehicle for the roads around here.
Strawman ahoy!
One fact working in Ms. Rao’s favor, as she begins her new job, is that there is consensus among politicians and voters of all political stripes that Washington should do a better job streamlining regulations.
But the divide is deeply partisan once the discussion moves to how much regulation is necessary to keep things orderly, safe and fair — and what is deemed a reasonable cost to make that happen. In simple terms, conservatives say the price of red tape has grown too steep, citing a study suggesting that rules cost the economy more than $2 trillion. Liberals say the figures ignore benefits to society.
“Most people do not appreciate the benefits of regulation,” said Sally Katzen, a former administrator of the regulatory office under Mr. Clinton and professor at New York University School of Law. “When asked, they may say they want to get rid of regulations. But which regulations? The stoplight at the intersection? Airbags? Safety barriers at subway stations?”
Yes, and if you think government schools are inefficient, you think children should be prevented from learning to read.
We could do without stoplights, haven’t these people ever heard of roundabouts?
“Most people do not appreciate the benefits of regulation,”
Count me as one of them. I think the first regarding to go should be whichever one it is that makes modern gas cans unusable.
Got a pocketknife? I can fix that right up for you.
Oh. I also took apart all of the plumbing fixtures in my house and removed the chokes. My toilet fills in less than 30 seconds after you flush, my sink fills in the same time and my shower actually showers you.
Fuck the Goracle.
Suthenboy buys a showerhead
I have already fixed it. I poke a breather in the top of the can that I plug with a trig and run a 1/2 drill bit down the spout to get rid of the stupid breather/shutoff system. It’s just retarded that I have to do that. Probably half the cost of the can is derived from that stupid, unworkable, leaky, and frankly dangerous mechanism and it pisses me off that I have to modify it in the first place.
I also probably broke some laws by modifying the can. That’s just great.
I have a dozen of them that I have done exactly the same thing to.
“When asked, they may say they want to get rid of regulations. But which regulations? The stoplight at the intersection? Airbags? Safety barriers at subway stations?”
Holy shit, that’s one of the biggest strawmen ever built.
The left are not reasonable people. When you mention rolling back some obscure regulation that no one has ever even heard of, they’ll automatically go to ‘people will die!’. Making fun of them and watching them lose is the best response.
What’s sad is, two of those aren’t even regulations.
Based on personal experience, including a near head-on collision when I was in a 1990s Honda Civic*, airbags don’t do shit but give you black eyes as long as you have your seatbelt on. If they were optional, I wouldn’t buy them.
*Black ice, car coming the other way spun into my lane, combined speed of @ 90 – 100 mph. Tore the rear axle out of the other car (it came to rest in a cornfield about 100 yards away). No airbag in my Civic (which was totaled as shit). I walked away without a scratch, wasn’t even sore the next day. Compare to low-speed parking lot accident in my mid-90s Chevy pickup that popped the airbag and left my face bruised and cut up.
My brother had a head-on collision – both cars only going 25mphish but icy out – in a pre-airbag car. He only had a bruised chest where the seatbelt met his ribs.
The cop at the scene said something like: “You’re lucky this car doesn’t have airbags or it would have been worse”
Yes, airbags, get rid of them. Maybe people would drive like their life depended on it.
Get rid of them in the reverse order they were created.
We had our first over-nighter for our adoptee… and it didn’t go very well. Seeing people for a few hours or a day is always good, but something something like fish. I was happy to drop him off Sunday night so I could go home and get some sleep since I was up the previous night worrying about the near stranger in our midst. He’s very rough around the edges – will have to have some discussions with my wife to find the best way to proceed.
I am sorry to hear that. How old is this kid?

So, I went and purchased the audiobook of Shadowboy after reading Uncivil’s post. I like it. I finished it, and purchased the second in the series.
I grew up on comic books – I started reading them in earnest in the “we’ve run out of metal” early 90’s, and worked my way backward. I had proudly read every single issue of a number of main-line Marvel comics until about 2010 or so – Uncanny, Avengers, DD, and Captain America. I gave up Marvel and DC about then when Big Story By Editor was ruining the lines, and it doesn’t look like they’ve gotten over the problems. So now I read Usagi Yojimo and Hellboy stuff and 2000 AD.
Anyway, I say that to say that this hits the late 80’s early 90’s teen team right on the nose. If you were a fan of the Teen Titans in their Judas Contract hey day, this is a book you should pick up.
There are two kinds of books I read. Books that are fun, and books that make me a better person. This is a ‘fun’ book. It won’t make me smarter, or give me new insight into the human condition. But it entertained me. Which is exactly what I needed. Thursday I donated blood after eating just a salad for lunch. That’s something I’ve done before, but I guess I’m getting older because that just knocked me the fuck out. I left work early, ate a huge plate of pasta, and went to lay in my bed. I listened to this book almost cover to cover, and it made the otherwise unpleasant experience a little better.
If you are looking for a fun book, and have a bit of nostalgia for the Teen Titans or old X-men when it used to be about teenagers, buy this book.
i can see why Deathstroke’s (ex?)wife would shoot him in the head over his gamble with Jericho’s life but still never really determined if Jericho was mute solely b/c of that knife slash across his throat or was he born that way.
Thank you for the feedback. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Since someone brought up Christie Brinkley the other day….Christie Brinkley is a year younger than Estelle Getty was in The Golden Girls’ first season, and the same age as Betty White and Bea Arthur.
Holy crap. She looks great, and I have the general impression she’s a pretty nice person. At age 52, she could easily pass for someone in their mid-30s.
I have a co-worker (another department) who is a spitting image of her – like sister / stunt double. She’s 41 but looks early 30s. Needless to say she gets a lot of attention at the software conferences I’ve been to with her. We usually pair up – no, not that way – to drink afterwards. I get a lot of vicious looks from the other nerds there.
Bad news, LH. It’s because you’ve become harmless.
I’m okay with it. I have a rule about dating (or in this case cheating) with co-workers: don’t do it since once it fails, you still have to see them. And being married to a divorce lawyah tends to keep a man on the straight-n-narrow.
Huh. Straight and Narrow was my nickname in college.
I guess some people just have that Wilford Brimley disorder (not Diabeetus) where they start looking like they’re in they’re in their 80s when they’re in their 40s, then keep looking that way for the next 40 years.
I looked like I was in my 40s for probably 20+ years (starting, sadly, in my thirties). Now I look like about my right age, only not quite as fat. At least my driver’s license and passport pix no longer look like my name is Mohammed McSplodeydope.
Or Steve Martin, who has looked basically the same for at least 30 years.
From Burlington VT!
18 and friends are asleep in a car at a gas station in south burlington. It’s 2am. The cop rolls up and tries to make sure they are ok. He see’s a bong, doesn’t even try to do anything. It becomes a normal underage drinking interaction. And then she goes nuts. She seems very cool.
Talking point, dead ahead!
Most people would gain more from the elimination of insurance premiums than they would lose from the tax hike, but that would be a hard case to make in an election campaign.
Most people, my bloodshot gimlet eye. That’s Krugabe. I also saw the same thing in another piece a little while ago.
“Your taxes will skyrocket, but so what? Think of how much you’ll save on insurance premiums! And aspirin, and rubbers, and bandaids, and toothpaste; all that stuff will be free and provided by the Ministry of Wellness.”
I remain dubious, but I’m a crackpot.
It should not be criminal for me to decide the best way to provide for my future health care. And I most decidedly do not want government-provided “care” of the sort Charlie Gard is facing.
Christ, Krugnuts has gotten insufferable.
Instead of single-payer, which is politically unachievable, we should directly cover all premiums! That won’t cause any inflation in the healthcare market at all! It totally won’t exacerbate all the market distortions that already exist in healthcare!
Did he say that? I don’t click on times links.
If you follow his logic, that’s what you get to. But logic is a strained term when it comes to Krugabe.
Instead of single-payer, which is politically unachievable, we should directly cover all premiums!
Isn’t that still single-payer, only now the single payer pays for premiums rather than directly for health care services?
Worst of all worlds is what I call it.
Yup. Adds a whole new level of cronyism at the insurance companies.
He can start with mine, right now. I’ll forward him my bill.
What “market distortions”? I have it on good authority that there were no regulations whatsoever on healthcare and health insurance before the ACA.
Jesus, the comments…
Hey dumbass, you might want to include tax rates in your calculation.
Sounds like the dumbass literally can’t imagine anything other than “state capitalism” and cronyism.
ProTip: socialism and communism are never, ever good for business. They are good for cronies and apparatchiks, some of whom may own businesses, but that’s not the same at all.
Maybe we could have some hybrid of Socialism and capitalism, where private entities own the means of production, but the state directs those private businesses on what to produce. Of course this might mess with trade agreements and national sovereignty, so such arrangements must be limited to a national level.
You know who else had a hybrid mix of Socialism and Capitalism?
DJ SoCap?
Every government on the planet, with perhaps one or two exceptions?
Don’t forget the old favorite, despotic slavery.
You’ll not only be freed from the burden of paying premiums, you’ll also be freed of the burden of making healthcare choices altogether, since the only way the state is going to save money is by limiting resources. No more premiums and no more MRIs! Welcome to the glorious future of healthcare, comrade, where you have so much freedom you won’t know what to do with it all!
OT, but this made me laugh (Pater Dean sent it to me):
(1) Trump is impeached. Pence is the President.
(2) Pence pardons Trump, appoints Trump as Vice President.*
(3) Pence resigns, Trump is President.
(4) Trump appoints Pence as Vice President.
*I didn’t have the heart to tell him Congress has to approve an appointed VP.
Also, people are riding bikes across France, but I can’t be bothered to tune in. I don’t really know any of the cyclists anymore and there aren’t any of them peddling wristbands for social signaling. And without that, what’s really the point?
Andy Samberg just put out a Tour de France Mockumentary that is worth a watch on HBO called “Tour de Pharmacy”
Only 41 minutes to boot, so just as the jokes start getting old it ends.
We turn on the broadcast periodically, mostly for the scenery. Plus, the Brit announcers are amusing.
My favorite part so far: a helicopter shot of some awesome old French chateau/mansion. With a frickin’ moat and 365 windows, 52 doors, twelve chimneys, and four . . . somethings. Built in the early 1700s.
Its also interesting how many of the old chateaus are undergoing what looks like major renovations/restorations, something I don’t really recall seeing before.
WHY SETH RICH’S MURDER STILL FUELS FAR-RIGHT CONSPIRACY THEORIES A YEAR LATER
This is how the article ends:
At the same time, the obsession with exculpating Trump and placing the blame on the Democratic Party seems to have blinded many to the basic facts of this case, which should appeal to a humanity beyond party affiliation. A young man was walking home from bar on a summer night. Then something happened, an encounter whose details remain unknown. There were two shots. Seth Rich lay dying.
Well, there you have it. CASE CLOSED.
I didn’t know Glibs was a far right site.
There’s also this:
That is the only reference in the article to the idea that Rich leaked the DNC emails to Wiki. Naturally, the writing is shit, so you can’t really tell what “clearly isn’t true”. Was it that Rich worked for the DNC? That he was a Wiki source? That he was slain because he was a Wiki source? Or that he was slain by Clinton operatives? I’m pretty sure the first one is clearly true, the second one is probably true (and definitely not clearly false), the third one is speculation with little evidence either way, and the last one is somewhat less likely than the third one.
None of the four facts in the preceding sentence are “clearly not true”. They range from “absolutely true” to “unproven speculation, for which little evidence exists either way that anyone knows of”.
Your post sounds like Russian disinformation to me.
