I actually had a chance to see Hassan’s infamous powerpoint presentation before it got tossed into the memory hole. I was completely pissed off that he was not instantly pulled from patients, had his security clearance suspended until it was revoked and processed for “resignation in lieu of court martial.” His entire chain of command should have been relieved for cause and prosecuted for failing to perform their duties. The only surprise is that he did not shoot up Walter Reed vice Ft Hood.
If this account of Kang is true, then people should be losing their careers over this as well. This was pure political correctness BS on the part of the Army and DoD.

I think it comes down to this: people who can make great strides in these fields are often more interested in things and ideas than people. They want to focus on their work.

Nobel was rolling in dough and Beethoven was basically a 19th century rock star. Although he did spend a lot of money taking care of his sick brother.
I think that definitely describes someone like Erdos or Newton, but from what I remember Beethoven had a passionate affair with a noblewoman. He couldn’t marry her because he was a commoner.

The American system of kidney donation is badly broken. Every year, 4,500 people die waiting for a transplant (that’s 30 a day), even though donating a kidney carries few negative health consequences. The tragedy of this situation has been widely remarked-upon, yet for decades it has persisted. Despite a number of proposed fixes, the number of unfortunate souls awaiting transplants now tops 100,000. Yet there may be one route out of the quandary that serves both kidney patients and justice alike: a universal mandatory nationwide lottery.

At the personal level, it is almost certainly morally indefensible for an individual not to donate his or her kidney. After all, a life is saved at relatively little cost to one’s self. But the gross selfishness of withholding one’s organs does not seem a sufficient motivator for people to voluntarily close the transplant gap. (I have not donated a kidney myself, despite knowing full well that not doing so is killing someone.) More vigorous measures must therefore be taken.

The govies could solve the organ shortage program quickly by allowing people to sell their kidneys and by permitting survivors to sell the deceased organs. Heck the government can incentivise it by making any income for organs to be tax free.
I revoked my donor box on my drivers license and informed the shocked clerk exactly why: everybody gets something of value from organ donation EXCEPT for the donor and their family. The doctors, nurses and hospitals get paid, the drug manufacturers sell anti-rejection drugs for decades, the recipient gets something of great value, and medical device manufacturers sell their products. Me, the donor, gets nothing. Of course I’m dead so I don’t care except that my family gets nothing. I have made it clear to my ex and kids not to donate my parts and to explain exactly why. Of course if they get a good value under the table, they should consider it.
There’s an actual solution to this that does not involve luddites with torches and pitchforks forceably removing organs from people. It’s called 3D organ printing, and it might be available sooner than you think if we can get luddites and government parasites out of the way.
I fail to see how this is any more moral than waking up in a tub filled with ice with ‘Call 911’ written in lipstick. The statists are moving into urban horror stories here.
This is a really obvious example of instead of helping people their solution is just to cut everyone down to the same size.
