But Americans won’t do those jerbz! What are they to do?
Don, right? Viking fan, but gotta give props.
Yup. Boy had to do a wax museum thing at school where he stood there and gave a short synapsis of a historical figure. He picked Hutson. Muh boy.
*watery eyes*
And your one of those Wisconsinites?
I’m rooting for the bovines, too. Future serial killers probably enjoy bullfights, but I don’t.
If I answer ‘Steak!’ when I am asked what I want for supper does that mean I am rooting for bovines also?
Yes, unless you ask for it well done. Then you’re rooting for Satan.
I’m Jewish. I presume you are too. Stop being afraid. Call me. Or give me your number and I will call you. I already know where you live. I’m on you. You might as well call me. You will see me. I promise. Bro.
You’re a bitch.
I don’t think I did that right.
Call me if you want a conversation. I will have it with you. You are such a piece of shit. Call me. Don’t be afraid, you piece of shit. Stand up. If you don’t call, you’re just afraid. Call me.
Call me if you want a conversation.
I read that as ‘a conversion’ and was puzzled. I’m told (((they))) keep the club (((exclusive))).
You just have to ask the rabbi more than 3 times.
The fuck? I’m (((converting))) so I never have to do shit again!
Now there’s effort?!
There’s more effort than that! I mean, you’re gonna have your dick fucked with, one way or another.
Plus there’s a 10 year waiting period before you start getting your gold. We didn’t get to start controlling the world by letting just anyone waltz in and join us.
10 years?! Pffft. You should see how long the Swi…
…
nevermind.
*runs from room*
Yes, but what’s the Swiss policy on dicks and cutting into them?
I think you just have to get your soul snipped out.
What’s the waiting period for telling (((jokes)))?
Get a room
Soccer’s Gold Cup continues in Texas with 100+ degree “heat index” – sure, why not? So what if the players are practically crawling.
So if they start rolling around on the ground, this time they actually are in pain?
Gotta wonder about a sport where grabbing your ankles is a valid strategy.
It isn’t always a valid strategy?

Can’t find a video of “What’s the Best Way?”
Stupid SNL.
You can say that again
Never heard of it. Is it anything like Bah Hahbah?
I’ve been to Bah Hahbah. All of you do yourselves a favor and avoid the gyros there.
I think we’ve talked about it, but i’ve been up there 8-10 times visiting my friend’s family, mostly during summers
I’ve met a bunch of the summer seasonal labor; girls from Ireland, Scotland, some guys from Croatia that i can recall.
They worked as waitstaff in the Jordan Pond house, or @ the bars +retaurants in town, others staffed camps and guided kayak trips. I would often get drunk with them after hours when hitting the bars. they seemed to outnumber the “american” workers by 2-1. Many of them were college students (at universities overseas) and in some cases were looking to make contacts to get jobs in the US after school.
Shortage Of Foreign Labor Forces Maine Businesses To Hire Local Workers
And the solution to the new flaw in the long existing government distorted labor market you ask?
Impossible!!
From the Washington Times today: Entrepreneur Shiva Ayyadurai has thrown down a rhetorical gauntlet to critics of his plan to unseat Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren in 2018: “Only a real Indian can defeat a fake Indian.”
This is the same guy who mailed her a genetics test a few weeks back (she sent it back). I don’t know much about his policy proposals are but he is truly at Trumpian levels of trolling. Frickin’ awesome.
If he weren’t already my hero, I just learned that he was married to The Nanny!
Ha, ha! He actually was married to Fran. Sadly they separated last year. Reportedly it had nothing to do with her voice.
Wait a second. Don’t tell me your latest fetish involves nasally, Queens accented, older Jewish women?!
Latest?
That’s literally his first fetish, acquired at age 11 months.
What can I say? I was breastfed.
Quality of my YouTube feed has improved since I defaulted to “Open in Private Window” on your links!
I wonder why the comments are disabled for that video? Also, would.
“Oedipus Complex” is next week’s fetish.
I’d call it “long island”, but you could probably find someone like her anywhere in the boroughs. Queens to me is more like Christopher Walken or Stanley Kubrick; its a slightly different, lazier rhythm than bronx+brooklyn, which tend to be more aggressive sounding (possibly because of more italians).
I would call Drescher’s accent on the show a mixture between Queens and Long Island. For example, Awkwafina is straight outta Forest Hills, and if you listen carefully, you can hear the base layer of Drescher’s Nanny character’s accent to which a topping over exaggerated Long Island nasalization and drawl has been placed.
So, not into grannie-types, then.
Fran Drescher?
Indeed.
oh boy.
The guy is an unrepentant asshole. He claims to be the “inventor of e-mail” (he isn’t) and sues anyone who says different.
This is great trolling, but the guy’s a dick.

In war, history is written by the victors. In universities, the left are the victors, and so they re-write histories.
I don’t think any professor has ever lost their job by looking at history and saying, “how can we twist these facts to be more complementary to the left?”
Cause, meet Effect.

You’re first book has been ordered and should be at my doorstep next week.
Raised the price on us, did we? 😉
No, the paperbacks are all and were always $9.99 because the printing costs and Amazon’s cut meant that was the only price point that made me money.
Ah, gotcha. Makes sense. I guess I only remembered the Kindle cost.
And yet (I assume) you make money at the lower e-book price. The official stance I’ve heard from publishing houses is that the costs to make an e-book are the same, or nearly, as a paper book so they can’t sell e-books for less.
They’re lying.
There is an overhead for editing and cover art that is fixed regardless of what gets put out.
The ebook has about $0.008-$0.08 marginal cost per copy to produce
The paperback has $3-$4 marginal cost per copy to produce.
On top of that, Amazon takes a cut to make it worth their while. My $3.99 eBooks and $9.99 paperbacks earn me about the same royalties. I do drop the older e-books to $2.99 on the presumption that they’ve covered their overhead and encouraging bing-reading the series will help people start buying.
And this is print-on-demand. The marginal cost per copy for large runs of hardcopies will be lower, but with the risk of unsold units.
They say they can’t sell eBooks for less because they don’t want unsold units sitting around.
Yeah, that sounded like BS to me
From a certain point of view…
The fixed overhead for producing a book is the same.
In other words, when doing the editing and art for the hardcopy, they produce the eBook for free. The marginal cost is storage and bandwidth compared to typesetting, paper, ink and warehousing.
Unpossible. I have been assured that labor is magically different from all other forms of the market, and that increasing the supply of cheap labor in no way lowers wages.
Hey, nice profile pic. looks familiar hahaha
Drunken robot fight!!!!
To be fair (lol) i did have the tophat and monocle Bender first. but there’s room for more than one drunken robot around here
Yes, but IIRC Denver was the first to have a Bender avatar. I could very well be wrong on that
Ah. You. Yes, everybody was putting on top hats, so I wanted to join in.
Which one of you has cleverly disposed of his evil beard attachment?
I gave Abe the Glib treatment with a new monocle and tophat today. He’s looking quite posh.

Yeah, everyone is looking quite stylish. Straffinrun gets the “most interesting” award.

You libertarians are a surprisingly bandwagon prone for ones with an supposedly individualist philosophic bent.
Hmmm….you have a point.
And I like your shirt. Very funny
Thanks, I guess fat, drunk, and bitter, is a way to go through life!
Yeah, why would I want to look like all of the other assholes here?
If you upload a picture of your avatar I’ll put a ‘No Top hat’ patch on your sleeve.
Wait — isn’t that a mirror version of the same thing?
Which Dale am I?

Tyler Brûlé hit hardest.
Deep state leaks now targeting Grace Jones.
What?! No M&Ms???
-2 dozen Findeclare or Colchester oysters on ice (unopened) (Grace does her own shucking)
Damn, I didn’t think it was possible for me to be more impressed by Grace Jones, but that has gone and done it. I love a woman who can shuck all nite.
These things are always so hilarious. I’d be like “a bottle of vodka, some Mt Dew, and a bag of Lays”.
Would love to see Cosby’s list, wouldn’t ya?
Grace Jones: “I love shucking my own oysters. I’m very good at it. I’m a professional shucker. There’s a pleasure in the ritual. What’s it going to look like when I open it? How much juice is going to be inside it? What sauce am I going to put on it? Or am I going to eat it with just lemon? Or is this one going to look like it doesn’t need anything? Or perhaps I’ll do a mixture of the mignonette and another sauce, or just lime or Tabasco? It makes me feel really good going through the ritual. Some people shuck them and they don’t look pretty. I believe they really have to look pretty when you open them. I like the high they give me. There’s nothing like an oyster high.”
This woman gets it.
Now you got me thinking about This place I spotted. I did not go in there…
ZARDOZ SUSPECTS INVOLVEMENT OF ROMANIAN BRUTAL KNOWN AS PIEINTHESKY.
Pie’s name is Nimrod? hah
God, that article made me want to start deporting journalists regardless of citizenship!
Damn, the arrogance of that asshole.
The fact they do champagne socials between journalists and politicians is ridiculous. What is the point of the press? To cover cocktail parties, or attend them.
It’s UK, they do things differently over there.
Shit, Boris Johnson, Foreign Minister who might become next PM, is the former editor of The Spectator, magazine that organized the said cocktail party.
Doesn’t stop The Spectator being head and shoulders above any North American magazine (yes, I read Reason in print, and Speccie makes their diversity of opinion look worse than 1939 Congress of CPSU).
It’s UK, they do things differently over there.
You sure about that? It is just the staffers and family that move back and forth between the political and the journalist world over here. Still go to the same parties.
Yes.
In UK they don’t pretend to be non-partisan, or equally unfriendly to all governments, or any of the hypocritical bullshit. Spectator is a Tory magazine. They have Old Labour, New Labour, UKIP and LIberal-supporting journalists, who write Old Labour etc. supporting articles but they are a Tory magazine and it is known.
Guardian is a Labour newsheet. Times is (Wet) Tory. Daily Mail is old-school (as in, “we wish it was 1880”) Tory. Not familiar with how the rest of them break down. And they don’t send staffers and family to keep the pretense – when they want to do politics, they go into it themselves.
BBC is the exception because they are a bunch of leftie cunts hiding behind the pretense of impartiality. But for the rest, it’s miles ahead of US (or Canada) and I’d happily trade in the journalistic culture. Also, page 3.
I approve of this analysis – very tired of American media pretenses myself.
Aaah, I was unaware of that breakdown. Thanks. We may be inching our way to that system again. I understand the Us, (don’t know about Canada) was the same in ye good ole days of yor. I always knew the Guardian was liberal gibberish, but equated it to my known world of them being just idiots.
https://youtu.be/DGscoaUWW2M
i think it would be awesome if US media could finally own up and just wear their biases on their sleeves like that.
Yeah, the unbiased news thing is relatively recent. Guys like Hearst and Pulitzer had no problem pushing their agendas on the front pages of their papers. 100 years ago, pretty much every major city had three or four daily papers, each with their own political slant. You still kind of see this with the NYC papers, where you have the Daily News, (working class leftist) the Times, (cocktail crowd leftist) and the Post(Trump-type Republican).
The main thing that changed was that newer mediums like radio and movies came along, and everybody had to act unbiased. In the case of the radio stations, it was partly because they were the upstarts similar to today’s internet so they wanted to seem as impartial to avoid any obvious screw-ups, and partially because they were subjected to licensing regulations that newspapers didn’t have to deal with. So being blatantly partisan one way or the other would likely draw the ire of regulators who could screw them over by meticulously applying the laws.
The problem for the papers was that the new competition meant that their own sales were dropping, so focusing on one slice of a shrinking pie became a way to go bankrupt, so they went ‘objective’ to try to capture the whole pie, leaving most major markets with one, maybe two dailies.
Personally, I always found the notion of unbiased journalism a bit insulting to my intelligence. Reporters would argue that we should pay attention to the news in order to get an idea of what’s going on in the world, but they themselves have no opinion whatsoever?
If I talk to a mechanic who spends 40 hours a week working on cars, but has no opinion on the qualities of Ford vs. Chevy, then he’s probably a shitty mechanic. Likewise, if a reporter spends 60 hours a week writing up stories about politics, and doesn’t have an opinion, then he’s probably a shitty reporter.
Telegraph is Tory, Financial Times is pretty Tory (still left of US center though)
There are a few others besides Guardian that lean left, but that has by far the biggest circ.
I think of old Martin Amis, who I think started politics as a Fabian apocryphally dancing on the bar, singing: ” Sod the fuckers!” When Labour got turfed out in the Thatcher win when aid think knife-fighting English press.
“Cush became the father of Nimrod, who was the first to become a mighty warrior on earth. He was a mighty hunter in the eyes of the LORD; hence the saying, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter in the eyes of the LORD.” His kingdom originated in Babylon, Erech and Accad, all of them in the land of Shinar. From that land he went forth to Assyria, where he built Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir* and Calah, as well as Resen, between Nineveh and Calah,* the latter being the principal city.” – Genesis 10:8-12 (NABRE)
“Get a load of this Nimrod” – Bugs Bunny
Anyways, I find it kind of interesting, that the people writing Bugs Bunny cartoons could casually make a reference to Genesis, comparing Elmer Fudd to a great hunter where Elmer Fudd comes out lacking in the comparison, and expect people to get the reference. But now nobody gets the reference, and Nimrod just became kind of a generic insult.
Thanks Scruffy, For the awesome Top Hat!
I’ve enjoyed BoredPanda’s work for a while. Some amazing pics from Mosul.
I’m always a fan of the pics of arabs “holding gun above their head and shooting without looking“.
its natural compliment is the classic “Standing in the middle of the street and firing RPK/RPG while your buddies, also standing out in the open w/o cover, smoke cigarettes and watch”
throw in the “pictures of overweight commanders chainsmoking and eating boxed lunches”, and you really get a feel for the pace + intensity of Arab on Arab conflict.
Sounds like my lunch-time at the office.
Geeze Gilmore, lighten up. At least they weren’t wearing dress shoes with the heel cup crushed for easy entry.
they do seem to wear comfortable shoes at least.
i always admired the guys who went into combat with sandals tho. body armor is a definite “maybe”, but socks? fuck that.
+1 pair of velcro sketchers
Behold these finely tuned warriors
Soldiering in sandals and other comfy footwear is not contained to one continent. That pic was taken in South Sudan 2006.
For a true “pucker up and duck” experience not much beats the “Iraqi death blossom.” Take a group of Iraqi’s and have somebody shoot a few rounds at them. They will all open up on full auto in whatever direction they happen to be facing and send rounds high, low and mid without looking. Imagine a fire cracker going off in the middle of a group of armed javelina, that kind of crazed reaction.
Hey look it’s recoiless, that means that it doesn’t it kick, so it’s all good.
OMG I just noticed what’s going on with Natalie’s monocle clamps.
I’m sure Scruffy could come up with something for your avatar. I would, but we know how that would turn out.
Well, I’m just a head so there isn’t too much there to work with.
Bah, so is ZARDOZ, and look upon his acomplishments!
It’s the mouth I was talking about.
“Oh, my!”
There are some good shots there. I am surprised nobody bought those.
I think running out into the middle of the street without any cover to fire your machine-gun or RPG is an excellent strategy.
They must have watched all those old “Combat” shows where the Krauts run out of a building and Little John cuts them in two with his B.A.R.
Wanted to comment a couple of weeks ago, when talking about Nazikakkes. Perfect tag line, ” You will want to Goebbel them up!”.

“Our baked mocks fried.”
What a pun! Did you come up with that? Pretty legendary if you did.

Laughed hard on this one. This place never disappoints.
Well… I think I can go ahead and stop watching the TWINS/ASTROS game. Think I’ll listen to some records with my whiskey. Something poppy and upbeat.

By the way, I am not POPPY.

quincy, I would. But it turns out I AM in a cult. Just not the Cult of Poppy.
Say “Hi” to Tom Cruise for me while you’re wandering around headquarters.
I’m not a Scientologist. I’m getting my hair cut tomorrow. It’s a very small cult known to its followers as, “Shorn on the Ides” We get haircuts in the middle of the month. Come to think of it, its not much of an ethos.
Sorry, that was mean. The “Shorn on the Ides” thing sounds like fun times. And you could probably kick the asses of random parking lot nihilists. I wish I had hair worth getting professionally cut. *runs away sobbing*
Me, earlier: It’s been a while since I’ve been on Twitter. I think I did a good job blanket muting everyone who annoys me. Maybe I can…

Nope. Nope. I was wrong.

I am now stupider from having skimmed the replies.
Oh, thank God! I was thinking that I had to divorce my wife for a second there.

I wouldn’t say sassy. More like automatonic badass. She didn’t change her tone of voice one bit. Just deadpanned the fuck outta that.
I’m kind of hoping “sugartits” makes a comeback.
Tooootally! I highly recommend using that word when you’re in the back of a cop car because a murder’s been committed 10 feet from you.
What’s wrong with lightening up a tense moment with a little humor? /sarc
Sugartits went away?
No wonder people call me old.
Cop in the other case (they usually do two cases per episode) just admitted smart people lawyer up (along the lines of “He’s playing dumb. He’s smarter than he’s letting on because he asked for a lawyer.”)
If I was even tangentially linked to a murder investigation, there is no way I would say a word to any investigator without a lawyer present. Even with a lawyer present, I probably wouldn’t say anything.
I call my daughter “Super Sweetie”. Tried “Super Stinky” for a while, but she insisted I go back.
My dad
calledcalls me “girl”. He’s an engineer, in case you couldn’t tell from his entirely factual nickname for me.Sounds oppressive. Write a piece for Salon about how your father is a shitlord。
If not for that name, no doubt I’d identify as some other gender. Patriarchy!!!!!!
My daughter is usually “Varmint”, “Fuzzball” (she’s curly), “Monkey-Butt”, “E” (first initial), or the ever-popular, “Hey, Kid”. She’s 2, so she hasn’t picked her fave yet. I’m leaning towards Monkey-Butt, because I’m planning ahead for when I drop her off at middle school and have to yell to her that she’s forgotten her lunch.
I called my wife Poon Tang for years. She figured out what it meant, so I had to stop. She was calling me Anpontan for years until I found out it meant dipshit.
My wife called me dipshit and I knew what it meant but that didn’t stop her. After many years of marriage, and calling her any number of names, some cute some not, I prefer to call her long distance. Actually, since my son turned 18, I don’t call her at all.
My daughter is chickadee or Khaleesi or Shirley (not her name)
She really hates being called Ladyface.
is that a “modern kid’s TV show” or something?
they teach your kids that its ok to have gay parents, its wrong to be bigoted, and curse a shitload doing it.
Actually, shortly after that, the fat guy gets knocked off the raft and drowns and the other kids attempt to hide his death by burying him in the woods.
Nickelodeon-meets-Lord of the Flies? (or Twin Peaks?)
actually, that sounds really entertaining.
I doth believe it to be dubbed.
It is from a weird movie, I can’t remember the title.
Holy cow, it’s NOT dubbed. It’s called Mean Creek and it was pre-Drake & Josh.
Recruiter had the nerve to send me a job posting with the word “Junior” in the title.
(yes, I know they just run a keyword search and spam everyone who appears in the results, but they really should spend a little more time vetting candidates. Especially this company, with whom I’ve had business in the past when they set me up with an interview at Convio)
I’m a “Senior” at my company and we were recently aborbed by a bigger company that uses “I”, “II”, and “III” – so some of us are “Seniors” and some are “I”. Or “III”. I dunno what those mean.
My title is Super Tech. I kinda like it.
Rick James wishes he’d thought of a name that cool.
Glassdoor is the worst. My search term is Creative Director. They have sent me Sous Chef job opportunities in response.

I just finished a bottle of York County Cider’s “Like an Academic”. It was good.
Explain how an academic drinks cider that differs from the rest of us.
I am need of some advice about cars. I think within a couple of months I am going to get us a second car because while having one car is cost effective, it’s becoming somewhat inconvenient because I have to sometimes travel for my job and my wife works in the North Suburbs of Chicago. I’m looking for a midsize sedan that will drive well in the Chicago winters and is under $ 25,000.
My advice is that both you and your wife should quit your jobs and sell your first car. Then open a Chaturbate channel and make money for weed by streaming a couples sex show. Spend the rest of the time playing video games and sleeping.
Sadly, no one wants to see me naked.
I do
I think the crux is, would you pay for the privilege?
I am a bit embarrassed at how much that made me laugh.
Never let what other people want stop you.
Rule 34 implies that someone does.
Dayum, nice rack. No pics, sorry.
Not meant as a reply. Oops.
points for it being in a relevant thread though.
I’ve been commuting in a chevy sonic for about 4 years now. They are cheap and I have had no reliability issues. I don’t know about Chicago winters, but the few times it has snowed around here, it has done fine. Front wheel drive cars do better in the snow than my 4×4 truck.
If subaru, stay a few years back. They have dropped recently in reliability.
We had a 2012 impreza for a couple years for my commuter car. Something about 0 weight oil gives me pause. Sure it gets great mileage, because the oil is water…
I’m thinking about this.
The boxer design has some drawbacks. The subarus are known to eat oil. At least ones like that. I had a old outback a few years ago, it’s perfect in snow, and the old ones aren’t as sluggish. My roommate has a ’12 or ’13 outback and it is very underpowered. His doesn’t seem to have the oil issue though.
Oh, they’re great in snow. I live in Northern Minnesota and it was great, if a bit low. When I researched mine, I found the older motors were hit or miss. Some go for 300k, some have head gasket problems (or other issues) and die. That one made it that far so it’s probably a good one.
Cars are for shitlords. Get new jobs so you can use public transportation.
Aside from that I got nothin. Three kids and a Great Dane, so no idea what a midsized sedan is.
Find a certified pre-owned Hyundai Sonata. We picked ours up for about half the price of new. It had only 27k miles on it, and it has been our primary vehicle since 2010. We’ve driven it in 5 Chicagoland winters with no issues and no getting stuck. (It now has around 150k on it.)
I’ve also had a good experience (more or less) so far with a 2012 accent, previously owned w/10k miles. Not anywhere near 150k yet though.
Not a sedan, but go for a pre-owned RAV 4 (2012 or earlier – the later models lose the spare tire easy access….but do have an upward opening rear hatch). You get soooo much cargo space…great for moving bodies and stuff.
For the old folks
I laughed
that’s pretty good.
Me too. No Onion, no cry.

an interesting bit on the unique degree of “rapeyness” among Afghan refugees in europe. Its National Interest, so always has risk of being uber TeamRed, but the author seems to be a independent contributor, not a normal writer there, and they’re not hemming and hawing about how its all Islam’s fault, but rather its something specific to this generation of young afghans.
e.g.
That’s just their culture, it’s different from ours but in no way inferior.
Afghanistan has seen almost 40 years of non-stop civil war. Think about what that does to a society. It’s the closest thing we have to a Mad Max-ian world.
she* points out that many of these young afghans grew up in an era where the US was funding most of the new schools, and implies that a lot of hypocritical nonsense which may have been piped through these places imbued them with a contempt for western ‘values’. but i think she doesn’t think its quite that simple either. she points out that these behaviors aren’t shared by many other afghan refugees who themselves lived through decades of civil war/violence.
it an interesting read in any case.
*(who she =”Dr. Cheryl Benard was program director of the Initiative for Middle Eastern Youth and the Alternative Strategies Initiative within the RAND Corporation’s National Security Research Division”…. author of handful of books on Islam/western relations)
“…these behaviors aren’t shared by many other afghan refugees who themselves lived through decades of civil war/violence.”
I call bullshit. Afghanistan/Pakistan are the rapiest cultures in the world, and that is saying a lot. Christ, they have courts there that sentence women to be gang-raped for minor offenses. Rape there is like jaywalking here.
Have you read the article?
she mentions (with some apparent familiarity) that there are a number of afghan communities in europe that predate the recent migrants, and they had none of this predilection for grabbing and raping women in broad daylight.
the entire point of the piece is to look at the various superficial claims like the one you suggest (i.e. its just their culture) and show why its not a sufficient answer for the phenomenon they’re seeing.
Have you considered that the people who are able to get their shit together and get to Europe sans an unusually lax migration policy are also a significantly different kinds of Afghanis?
City folk vs. country bumkins? Cosmotarians vs. yokeltarians?
again – have you read the article? this isn’t my argument: its the one being made in the piece, and she has decades of experience dealing with refugees, and its not like she’s oblivious to the cultural mysogyny inherent in Afghanistan. In fact she specifically addresses “what if that’s the explanation”? then points out a variety of reasons that it doesn’t quite suit
also, both the older groups she’s talking about (refugees who fled to europe in earlier migrations) and the newer ones (that be doing all the recent rape) both fit the description you’re making = both came to europe under their own steam. so i’m not sure why you think that distinction applies to her comparison.
i’m not even saying she’s *right*, its just that the comments people are making are things specifically addressed in the piece so i don’t know why people don’t just ()#*)@ read it.
Because it takes time to read, and I wanted to get my hot-take out there.
Anyway, I read it and don’t particularly feel it addressed my question. Do they know the relative make-up of where people are coming from? Families vs. young men coming?
” both came to europe under their own steam”
Maybe I worded that part shittily, but it is like how border crossings dropped massively once Trump was elected. The ‘refugee crisis’ seems like a hangers-on effect. I don’t know enough about European immigration policy to say if it is any different than it was before, but maybe it is the perception that matters more than the reality.
Also, I noticed she said only <10% of rapes/assaults are from Syrian refugees… it wasn't clear to me if she meant in the country as a whole or just among refugees? If the former that is still pretty horrifying.
re: your question of “City folk vs. country bumkins?”
I don’t think you can assume any significant demographic differences between afghan refugees who fled the soviet invasion, and more-recent ones. there was no special difference in the causes of/ or origins of migrants. if it were pertinent i assume she would have raised the point.
I think that sort of comparison would be easier if you were talking about people like Iraqi refugees in the wake of the US invasion: the first to flee were the ones with means; the ‘upper middle class’, basically. Then followed a decade of people fleeing who might have spent years in refugee camps in jordan or in temporary communities elsewhere.
I think the core of the argument in the piece is that, as someone who says she has spent many years dealing with refugees and specifically muslims… she’d be perfectly happy to say, “Its just Islam! Islam makes them rape-crazy “….if that were the case. I mean, this is National Review – its already on the very-very-conservative end of the spectrum, so its not like its PC preventing her from seeing some One Size Fits All explaination.
But – according to her – that’s not quite it. Because there are poor migrants from equally war-torn places and you’re not seeing the same, very specific kinds of crimes.
There’s a gap between the behaviors of these afghan newcomers and both afghan predecessors, and between their current peers among migrants. This one, fairly small group, is consistently committing a number of strangely egregious crimes. and, as she notes, they seem to be strangely specific-sorts of crime: the number of “young+old mothers pushing strollers” that have been raped vs. “scantily clad hotties” suggests there’s something unusual going on that isn’t just “rape culture”; its something distinctly more sociopathic
her bit on this =
i think she might be onto something with this ‘social-terrorism’ idea; that its not merely raping for rape’s sake – that its more an act of contempt
anyway, i’m not really defending her argument myself, i just think its rare that people think beyond the surface level characteristics and make these more nuanced cases. I do think you can still argue that Europe has a muslim-problem, writ large, regardless. Its just in the case of these very-specific crimes that something different may be happening, that may have more in common with the sorts of people driving trucks into christmas shoppers than they do honor-rapists in Pakistan.
“I don’t think you can assume any significant demographic differences between afghan refugees who fled the soviet invasion, and more-recent ones. there was no special difference in the causes of/ or origins of migrants. if it were pertinent i assume she would have raised the point. ”
I’m not making an assumption, just asking the question. Before the Taliban rule, it is my understanding that at least in the cities there were some significantly liberal attitudes regarding women, etc. The idea that the recent migrants are likely different culturally/demographically from the first group doesn’t seem that unlikely to me (see also: HM’s 40-years of civil war theory, no way that doesn’t impact your upbringing/culture). Also, would be interested in the rates of victims of sexual abuse among the migrant group currently coming over. I’ve heard a few anecdotes that the ANA had a problem with their soldiers and the local boys who showed a bit too much ankle.
“so its not like its PC preventing her from seeing some One Size Fits All explaination.”
I’m not advocating this either, I’m trying to come up with a reason why wave 1 and wave 2 of afghan migrants are acting significantly different. Of course, it could be that the same problems existed with wave 1 of afghan migrants, but no one noticed because:
1) far fewer migrants = far fewer incidents
2) Because there were fewer of them, they were less likely to form ‘gangs’, which seems to be a non-trivial factor in the assaults. It seems to rarely be just one Afghan deciding on his own an attack is a good idea.
“the number of “young+old mothers pushing strollers” that have been raped vs. “scantily clad hotties” suggests there’s something unusual going on that isn’t just “rape culture”; its something distinctly more sociopathic”
It wasn’t clear to me there is a statistical a difference in victim choice among perpetrators, or if that is just anecdotal- maybe combined with the fact that they’re doing this in broad daylight, would change your victim pool. Then again, maybe this somehow lines up with my idea of past sexual abuse among the perpetrators.
“anyway, i’m not really defending her argument myself”
Did she really have an argument? It seemed she kind of ended it on a ‘meh, dunno’ note, though I guess she more strongly identified with the third theory, that you highlighted.
Big difference between folks fleeing Russian invasion and anything current.
Just look at something like this or google iran/afghanistan in 70s and today.
Yes there are plenty depraved tribal elements that never had an electric lightbulb in the 70s or earlier – I have the feeling that “man-boy Thursday” has been around a lot longer – but a refugee from the early 80s is going to be coming from a very different culture than today.
Bullshit. You haven’t talked to any super civilized Europeans. Murika IS Mad Max-ian world.
Alright, Nerfherder. I’ve got the image I’d think would look real good with the glib treatment. http://imgur.com/umPRMXW
You need to make it much smaller
Not sure why it’s so exploded. It was from a 160 x 160 pic I found through image search. How do I make it smaller?
Alright, how’s this look instead? http://imgur.com/wjk6pNR
Ah, alright, I don’t know what I’m doing here. http://imgur.com/6qnHIFU
Thanks to Glib, sthgrau, in the Discord. Got a good resize that didn’t blur the hell out of the pic. http://imgur.com/a/0plI5
Alright, I swear this’ll be the last one. Nerfherder, this one. http://imgur.com/FTW9uFq
O.T – Maxine Waters, the desiccated shrew from the crawlspace just passed up the sound-bite opportunity of a lifetime. She’s taken to calling the Trumps the “Criminal Clan” when she could have gone for broke and labelled them the “Kriminal Kollusion Klan”. Oh Maxine, never change! ( Apologies if this has been referenced before but it’s hard to keep up with you guys and I’m a busy man.)
Koch-sucking Kriminal Klowns
Kelly-Anne’s spin – “Kompassionate, Karing, Kore-values”!
Easy there, Nancy MacLean.
Fucking Maxine missed the brass ring by a pube’s breadth. Does she not have a staffer that could multi-task? Changing adult diapers is an onerous, unpleasant chore but the only positive about it is that you train yourself to think about something else whilst engaged in the task.
Whatever. I was referencing this.
I was aware. I lurk here everyday like STEVE SMITH at a National Park, waiting for the unsuspecting. No offense taken, Glibrother.
*fist bump*
When she lets that lower mandible start flapping up and down, I can’t help but think she’s just trying to get her polydent to stick. She’s got the double blessing of being an idiot with an idiot’s voice.
I don’t know if she even chews her own food anymore. Pelosi probably “baby-birds” her but at this point, what does it matter? Kudos on the mandibles, her jaws are probably horizontal and legion.
Did she happen to mention what crimes, exactly, the Trump clan is guilty of?
*more projection from the left.
As always, the crime was that Hillary didn’t win. That’s it, that’s all, that’s everaythang!
He’s a Republican and he won. There’s two crimes.
He also represents the “Pussy-Grabber” wing of the Party so that has to triple sting. One time I was fishing with my Uncle and we sunk the boat. The only thing to grab onto was a gas tank but it was the open one so naturally I splashed gasoline into my face. Blinded, we were fortunate enough that the wind pushed us to shore and after scrambling over a log-boom and climbing a small cliff made it to relative safety. Uncle spots a boat across the bay and takes off barefoot to flag them down. Brother and I decide to start a fire to warm up (Bic lighters are cool things). Fire starts burning under the moss. Panic! Rescued by the other boating party, round the point and yes, we’ve started a forest fire. There is more to this story but I haven’t the time to do it justice tonight, maybe it’s just a better bar tale. ( Addendum – got a Certificate from the Government for reporting a wildfire.) That’s Hillary’s last few months, in a paragraph.
BEST WISHES FOR THE RACE, ZARDOZ. MAKE OZYMANDIAS AND THE SPHINX EAT YOUR DUST.
OT.
“Hobo with a Shotgun” probably fell below the acceptability threshold for even Mystery Science Theater 3000.
Just sayin’.
It was stupid fun brought to you by the same Halifax film community that spawned the “Trailer Park Boys”. Ricky even gets his head torn off and Jim Lahey’s much younger and hotter daughter is the female protagonist.
Pretty good trump meme.

Are you scared?
“Pimp of the Nation” is a definite winning slogan. I foresee a victory speech delivered in a snakeskin jacket next to a couple of busty chicks in tube tops in our near future.e
Someone should send that to Neil. I’ll bet he’d either chuckle or curl up in a ball in the shower.
Man, this Charm City Meadworks is so good. Brazilian Soap Operas h ave the best music. I have to do a collection… I mean some sort of symposium on that some day. Oh, and that space in the first word ‘have’, that’s on purpose, shitlords.
do you have a sample for me?
mk I mini pickup
I’d file that under “stupid shit that brits do” right in front of building bombers without a belly gun in WWII. Come on man… What’s the point?
They make for fun racecars!
You have likely seen this doom, but if not here you go. They aren’t cheap, but these guys do very good work. Prime FJ porn. I love the 43 that they did from Colombia.

They are beautiful. If I had the money, they’d be restoring mine.
Anyone doing the same for Series II or III Land Rovers… *wishing*
Not that I’ve seen, but I’m sure there are a few out there.

Seems I’m too late for much commenting.
Having a Troegs Java head stout, and reading Gilmore’s article.
Sighs – “Always the bridesmaid, never the bride, Boo Hoo Hoo!” I hate the way that weekend comments dry up after 9 PM Eastern. Stupid people with their stupid lives, always drinking craft beers and high end Scotch, grilling delicious food items. We hates them, we do!
If you were here I’d share some craft beers, and then we wouldn’t even be posting online anymore- so everyone would be envious of us! Ha, HA!
My Wife is American but since 9/11 I can’t cross the border no more. Seems that a 25 year-old DUI is enough to keep a threat like me from invading your precincts. Maybe I should don a wig and pretend to be a Russian lawyer…
Canadian?
I live pretty close to the Tundra…
If it makes you feel any better, and I know it won’t, Canadia won’t let Murican DUIs visit either.
Lotsa Somalians are free to cross that invisible line sans fingers and toes.
You’d probably be able to comment on time if you weren’t so lackadaisical…..
oh. sorry. carry on.
*thinks about narrowing gaze, maybe later*
Okay, so, the latest Republican bill in the Senate (?) sounds like it is just Obamacare lite for real now (moar spending and regs!!!).
I mean, Hannity was ragging on them for this shit on the radio today. Anyone heard about this at all?
Rand said the same thing, but I haven’t looked at it yet.
The whole process has me pretty disgusted with the Republicans. How many times did they vote for a repeal when Obama was President?
I hope they drown in a kettle of fish piss.
Don’t hold back. Tell us how you really feel. You’re in a safe space here.
I think he has a slight irritation with our representatives.
I was kind of getting that feeling, but with his hesitation to state his position, I wasn’t quite sure. Thanks for clearing up my confusion, Doom.
Happy to help!
I know Preet is gone, but maybe it is still wise to refrain from woodchipperian comments.
I find the American healthcare debate tedious at best and ball-shrinkingly infuriurating at worst. Why not cut the middle man out and feed those leeching insurance companies and the AMA to the trout?
Yup.
It makes no sense, to me. I can only blame FDR.
This was interesting.
I’ve heard similar run downs, though the AMA fighting against insurance is new to me.
Funny because it became true- doctors seem to spend more time filing forms than actually treating.
Sounds about right. One of my family member is a dentist and refuses to deal with medicare/medicaid patients. She has someone on staff whose sole job is to handle insurance. It cost her more money trying to get compensated by medicaid than doing charity work.
We can’t find an acceptable bill to replace Obamacare, so we are going to repeal it for now.We believe that what we had before Ocare was better.
*What R’s could do, but won’t.
Ah. The siren song of this administration. Wishes.
How many flies does it take to screw in a light bulb?
2, but the real question is how’d they get in the bulb.
If you’re up at this hour, you may want some waffles. We know it’s dirty!
As a redneck, I have to say that that guy is telling the truth. All those damn yankees think they’re socially progressive, but they wouldn’t be caught dead eating at a Waffle House.
Christ I am trying to drink coffee here.
I’m just getting started on the bottle tonight. Wife is pissed cuz I’m going out and I’ve already polished off all the booze in the house. The plan is to get loaded, write a piece on free speech that is only ethnic, racial and religious slurs, submitting it here and waiting for the glib star chamber to convene an emergency session.
For fuck’s sake man. Get the wife loaded up and then free will reigns. Rookie mistake. I call for one on dis-top-hat!
Nah, she has her nights out with the gals. I’m gonna take mine out with the boys.
Understood. My Wife bought a horse last winter and now she’s complaining about the the time we don’t spend together. “You bought a horse”!
So just out of curiosity, what does a Japanese night out with the boys looks like?
Sake and soapland.
What do salarymen do after work?
I know I’m up late when there’s activity on … last night’s thread.
At least they have some “spice”. Christ, if you go to a breakfast place in Canada all you get is grey unsalted bullshit food. I usedtabe a short order cook and I hate those chain restaurants. Bland shit that nobody really likes.
Some people like it.
De Gustibus blah, blah blah. You’ve never had my eggs benedict nor my pancakes (shakes ass in a totally non-gay way).
I feel I missed out on some kind of Glib dress up party. We need a app to add monocle top hat and cane to any picture.
