Happy Monday.
This gibberish makes absolutely no sense to me. Do you mean to tell me that Illinois, blue anchor of the plains, doesn’t have some sort of mandatory sentencing for gun crimes?
Milo Y must be crying himself to sleep at night on a huge pile of money. I hope he spends it on good stuff. Like coke and rent boys.
Golden RETRIEVER does what it was genetically bred to do. Humans add stupid anthropic reasons to it.
Wall these in, put in some Kleenex. Bang. I’ll have men begging their wives to go to the mall.
Damn, this is what happens when you lose a bet as a baboon.
Meanwhile, there’s other stuff happening in Russia besides meddling with the US elections.
Linky no work. Did they pull the Tweet?
Russians hacked the link.
They pulled it, but I found an even better version.
I eagerly await the followup where that motorbike gets in an inevitable wreck and the ensuing carnage.
That video was almost unbearable.
Oh boy, not another one of these grizzly pun threads.
He was pretty calm. I know I hate just sitting on my urse in traffic.
At least if you are carpooling, you can spend some koalaty time with your passengers.
Let’s just hit paws on these puns, guys.
I don’t know, I have a few more bruin that I want to use.
Y’all are gonna give me Kodiak arrest
Only in Arkhangelsk….
First day back to work after vacation sucks.
Also, that’s cool with the retriever.
Yessir – got to catch up on all the work that piled up when you were gone. Yay!
Tell me about it. I put in 4 hrs and then decided it would be a good half-day. If these progs start pushung paid vacations to recover from our vacations i might just jump on board
I’m just happy with a comfortable chair.
Wall them with one way mirrors.
I thought that was what the Tilted Kilt was for?
The food sucks but the scenery is awesome
Illinois doesn’t have gun crimes because they’ve outlawed gun crimes.
“To help respond to the daily wail of sirens, one focus should be on enhancing penalties for repeat gun offenders and ensuring local judges enforce the law.”
Because we haven’t made guns illegal enough yet, we’re going to make them more illegal! /leftist strategy on everything
Oh hey, that was smart of them, we should try that everywhere!
Come to think of it, if we outlawed every type of crime we would live in a Utopia! Let’s do that!
Legalize narcotics.
I’m feeling rather lazy today.

Does it look like a need to be on a diet?
I laughed way too hard at that last one.

RACIST
Amazon has almost run out of milo’s book.
Don’t try to tell me it’s more popular than Chelsea’s book, you shitlord!
Chelsea…Handler?
The nefarious, right-wing book company overprinted Chelsea’s book to make it look less popular.
The great right wing conspiracy haunting the poor Clinton’s, forever.
Chelsea, being such a voracious reader, read like 100,000 copies of Dangerous, thus the shortage.
She just can not catch a break!
I know, right? Her life is a mix of hardscrabble living and overcoming all of the cultural obstacles of being a child of one of the most politically powerful and connected families in the US and a woman. I mean, if that doesn’t reek of perseverance, I don’t know what does.

Third time really is the charm.
Also, poor girl got her looks from her dad, Janet Reno 🙁
No, you’re thinking of Webb Hubbell .
Wait, Webb Hubble got his looks from his dad, Janet Reno?
Well, Chelsea’s children’s book was number one in the kids’ section. At first it was cause to despair, but book #2 was “Dragons love Tacos 2”, which was comforting. We can all guess which book will see more requests for a reread from the tyke generation.
Who knew that dragons are cultural appropriating shitlords.
“Dragons love Tacos 2” sounds like lesbian porn.
Would watch.

The absolute worst thing about Trump? Like, beyond the Pale horrible? Jeff Fucking Sessions.
True.
Trump campaigned that he was adamantly in favor of medical marijuana. But I don’t know of anything he’s done in that direction so far.
Nothing. He could take it off schedule one with a single signature. He could deprioritize the DEA going after dispensaries. He could sell Sessions back to the Island of Lost Boys.
If Trump descheduled cannabis, the left’s heads would explode. It would be the funniest thing that’s ever happened. Of course, not going to happen.
Maybe when he needs to distract them for a news cycle…
Bring on the TDS, I guess!
Summer, 2018, right before the midterm campaigning starts.
Not going to happen, but if it were, that’s when.
Democrats: First Republicans kick everyone off healthcare and now they’re tying to kill your children with dangerous marijuana!
Democrats: First Republicans kick everyone off healthcare and now they’re tying to kill your children with dangerous marijuana!
Which is why, if it were to happen, it would happen shortly before the election. It would, by necessity, throw the Dems so off course that they would have trouble lining up behind a coherent criticism and would be distracted from talking about what they wanted to talk about.
His own party would be all over him.
Or it could be a Nixon to China moment.
His own party would be all over him.
Would they, though? My sense is that, for Republicans, marijuana is one of those that they’d all like to ditch, but no one can be the first because they’re afraid the rest of the party will call them a hippy liberal. They know its a loser politically because, at this point, even 70% of the socons under 50 probably smoked pot at least once or twice in college. If Trump were to deschedule it, it would be really, really easy for the GOP to hide behind states’ rights to justify it.
I think a pro-marijuana GOPer would have to win a traditionally red state to start changing the political fear that the establishment right has about weed. You can do it, Austin Petersen!
I read that as descheduled “Cannibals”.
Not a terrible idea.
If it weren’t for Sessions, I’d have an almost entirely positive view of Trump.
Poor Jeffrey, he’s just trying to save the children from reefer madness and everyone gets all upset over it.

To be fair, I get that as well. Only with white girls and at work.
Yeah I think it’s going to be a lot harder to sell ‘gender fatigue’ but we all know it’s true.
You guys trying to say that sitting in a meeting listening to women talk about shoes for an hour is tiring?
Only if you actually listen.
After 25 years of marriage, I’ve mastered the art of making that ‘ME’ time.

All 25 years to the same spouse?
Yes, ma’am… You know the old joke about being happily married for 15 years?
we’re just too bland.

This one is legit. I get fatigue when I interact with white people, too. I always thought it was just misanthropy, but my eyes are opened now.
Hating everybody is hard.
I can solve this lady’s problem. STOP GOING TO CONFERENCES.
C’mon people, that’s not racist, it is an adverse reaction to the invisible racism that all whites put off by their very existence. You know, like gamma rays and stuff.
So… ray-cism?

It’s so discriminatory not to want to be infected with a life-long disease. When will these people get woke.
Both of those people sound awful. They belong together.
This is a work of fiction.
I don’t think so, since minimal efforts to dox the author found corroborating evidence.
I just read to the part where she got slapped by a random person in her supervisory chain hard enough to draw blood and didn’t call the police. That sets off a red flag for me.
I do appreciate the admission that her bad experiences with her husband transferred over into every (platonic or not) relationship she had with a man from the on.
You forgot the mischevious laugh “hee hee hee” at the end.
No spoilers, please.
Did anyone catch the new episode of Game of Thrones last night? 10/10? 2/10?
Would or would not?
2/10. No tits or ass. Would not watch again.
Maaaaan… Maybe the next episode will deliver…
So you’re saying you were dissatisfied that the only nudity you got was old-man cadaver crotch? So hard to please, you are.
I would have taken John Snow’s ass by the end of it. Christ, why even watch this shit?
It started very nicely, and then settled into a “Get everyone re-established for interesting things to happen later”.
I mean, if you are this far in, why stop now?
Even if the last two seasons are garbage, I will probably watch them through to the end.
Yea I gave up hope on ever getting the rest of the books finished in the near future so I have just gone with the shows. Not every episode is amazing, but overall I am very happy with the story.
Yep, I think it’s been maybe 5 years since the last one was published. Martin made his nut and now couldn’t care less.
Contrast that with someone like Robert Jordan who spent his literal dying days ensuring the Wheel of Time would be finished for his fans.
I always compare the two because both of them needed an editor in the end but had too much ego to take one on. I’m not a huge Sanderson fan, but the guys a good mechanic and saved the series.
But you are right. RJ, for all his flaws, went out working for his fans. Gotta respect that.
I heard that Martin keeps rewriting his books whenever a new fan theory comes out that gets a little too close… Maybe that’s why it’s taking so long?
I heard that Martin keeps rewriting his books whenever a new fan theory comes out that gets a little too close…
Considering that every rational outcome could be predicted by the fans, that seems like a Sisyphean battle to surprise, divorced from good storytelling and compelled by ego. If it’s true, then Martin is to books what Shyamalan is to films.
Six.
I couldn’t get through the first book due to his style, but his lack of writing has provided endless entertainment over the past decade. It’s hilarious!
Wait, the same Robert Jordan that took what was always supposed to be a 7 book series and then milked it for twice that length? The guy who added entire books to the series where NOTHING HAPPENS? The guy who wrote 1000 page books that are roughly 40% copypasta?
Did he even have fans in the end? I know I’m a few books shy of the end and that is crazy. I’m like 7000 pages into a series and rather than finish it I just wish I’d never started it in the first place.
I loved Wheel of Time, read every book, and was sad when it was finally over.
…just me?
I enjoyed the the series too. Some of the books in the middle were kind of pointless (Jordan admitted they didn’t go where he envisioned) and some of the themes were overdone but I thought it was well done overall.
Right now I’ve gone back in the sci-fi time machine and am rereading some Niven.
Yeah but Wheel of Time sucked balls. The only major fantasy series that was worse was Thomas Covenant (at least among those I’ve read)
Book 1 of WOT should have been subtitled…
“We could have wrapped this book up in under 30 pages had any of the characters bothered to act like normal humans and had a 5 minute conversation around the campfire”
Instead 600 pages later we move on to book 2 where the ONLY interesting subplot from book 1 is utterly omitted
You have to put the Sword of Truth in there somewhere, a never ending seriers of event where the hero has no idea what he’s doing but manages to do the right thing anyway, god what a horrible series.
I enjoyed Covenant. I stuck with WoT through 10 books, I think, and then bailed.
Sword of Truth? One book, and then I was out.
I thought the Sword of Truth series was pretty good up until the fifth book. At that point I think Goodkind realized this was making him insane amounts of money and just kept it going.
I have tried several times to get through Covenant and just can’t do it.
The first Covenant book is awful. The writing is unbearably bad. Books 2-3 were better, and I liked the second trilogy (a friend who enjoyed the first trilogy hated the second). I don’t think anyone who passes on them is missing anything earth-shattering, though.
Now Gormenghast–that’s must-read material.
Bailed on WoT after about book 3 or 4 when it felt like the wheel was just spinning without any forward movement. Walked away from Sword of Truth somewhere between 5-7 (it’s been several years) when a)also no forward movement and b)preaching became excessive (and I’ve made it through Atlas Shrugged and The Fountainhead) and annoying even if I’m generally sympathetic.
yeah, it was mostly a setup-episode.
you have to watch it, but its basically “rapidly advance characters to the final plot stages” filler.
I routinely watch the Great British Baking Show. I’m used to a certain amount of filler.
Can’t they just do a montage while waiting for the water to boil?
Wow. …
You know… Plenty of women are in the kitchen these days! How about a womantage!
*Dusts flour from hands* Right on, sister.
watching tonight.
i really enjoyed it but i also thought Stannis’ slog through the frozen north to Winterfell was the best dialogue of the books.. so YMMV.

I found the stew bowl/chamber pot montage in the Citadel a bit fucking much. That was all time that could have been devoted to titties!
That article linked this morning about the deplorables in Grand Junction prompts me to have a question. Is living in Grand Junction/western slope awesome, or the most awesome thing ever? I’m stuck in Phoenix for a few more years, but I’ve been eyeing GJ for a while.
I lived in Grand Junction, Rifle, and Silt for quite a few years. I would take Phoenix every day and twice on Sunday. If you love a podunk town full of legitimately racist white people (and nothing else), Junction is your bag.
Podunk town within 3 hours of the parks around Moab, the Uintas, and lots of Colorado hiking? Yes. I can handle that.
Legitimately racist white people? That part is less fun.
You act like there isn’t tons of hiking with 2 hours of Phoenix. Christ go up to flagstaff. Hike the freaking grand canyon.
I have exhausted a great deal of Arizona’s hiking. To an extent that borders on insane. Long, multiple-day trips in the Grand Canyon are my main remaining goals.
You don’t even have to go that far. The Superstitions are rights outside Mesa for instance. Hell, you don’t even have to leave town either if you just want to go up to Squaw Peak or Camelback.
Yes, but it’s 1000F around Phoenix. Not pleasant hiking weather.
legitimately racist white people
Nice. As long as they’re legitimately racist…
Not sjw racist but actual ‘dey terk er jerbs’ racist. That southpark episode was a documentary.
Meh. They need AB tattoos or light crosses on fire before I pull the racist card.
It’s like being an alcoholic. You don’t have to go to meetings to make it official.
If we are going by alcoholism standards, I’m probably a racist.
False — If you go to meetings, you’re an alcoholic, otherwise, you’re just a drunk.
Aaaah, see, I didn’t read far enough down. Some on the western slope, which includes Grand Junction as well as my area, think that when the government imports workers via a visa program at a discounted rate due to the lobbying efforts of businesses, as in an employer gets a big tax break hiring a foreign worker over a local worker, it distorts the labor market. If believing that makes you a racist, I guess you would call me a racist. If I have to be called a racist because I believe in free markets, I’m not sure I am cool with that. My disagreement with distorted markets has fuck all to do with the place of origin or race of the people who are involved in doing the actual work. So if you think people who believe we should actually have constitutional equal protection, (as in equal tax burden for the employer regardless of who they hire) when it comes to trying to get a job are racists, well, then you can go fuck yourself because I am as far from a racist as you can get and I will be god damned if I will take being called one..
Wow, not at all what I said, but way to strawman the fuck out of it.
The people that I dealt with on the western slope literally made the argument “The blacks and mexicans are taking all our jobs.” Without even one whiff of anything you mentioned in that giant rant. If what you said is in fact true, then yes there would be a reasonable argument to be made there, but since this is literally the first time I’ve heard that, then that is definitely NOT the argument they were making.
Ya, sorry for the rant, but the, ‘dey terk er jerbs’ set me off, and it is not a straw man. A government distorted labor market is reality. Libertarians just like to ignore it. It happens year after year when businesses say they can’t get workers for the price they offer. To me, that means they are underbidding the market, but they go to the government and get waivers to import workers. Workers who live in subsidized housing because, you know it is just the right thing to do. Your tax dollars at work. I don’t know what conversations you have had or in what industry, but that gets my hackles up. Half the people around here are Hispanic and no one cares. Hell we all grew up together. I feel a person gets it from all sides on that issue. If you think there should be a free market for labor, the progs hammer you as a racist. My bad for reading your comment into my ingrained response to that.
I have to say there are plenty around here on both sides but so what? I didn’t move to the middle of nowhere to be a social butterfly. I wouldn’t know the neighbor if he walked up to me in the grocery store and bit me on the ass.
*checks pistol and peeks out of curtains*
You can pull that off in a big town but try that in a place like Rifle and it’s going to go poorly for you.
The police chief (may not have been the chief may have just been a cop) lived next door to me. I got a flat tire coming home from work one night and I made to the front of his house, so I started walking to my house to get tools. He came out of his house and said “Can I help you?” To which I replied “I got a flat but don’t worry about it I live next door.” His response? “No you don’t! I don’t know you!”
You lived in Rifle?!
*mutters about DVT*

Oh my GOD you’re one of those richers!
How bout that Walmart with entrances in the front and back in Glenwood, though? Or the Rite Aid that sells guns.
a podunk town full of legitimately racist white people
Who the fuck did you hang out with? I don’t know any full blown racists here. Granted I am some miles south of GJ, but…….
It was more Rifle than Junction. That east side, tho…
Granted I haven’t lived there in over a decade so it may be different now.
Rifle has a pretty substantial Latino community. Which doesn’t say anything about racism I guess.
Yeah, and they stay in their one little trailer park in the middle of the town like a mini ghetto. It’s not pleasant to hear the english speakers speak of them.
So, when I lived there my sister was in elementary school. As a child she basically never spoke at school, and she looks very hispanic. A hispanic girl invited her to her birthday party. So my mom was all excited and took her to the birthday party… at the trailer park in town…. and no one spoke english. Once they figured out that my sister was not hispanic and could not speak a word of Spanish, things got very awkward. the little girl never spoke to my sister again.
I don’t know Rifle that well but I’ve been there a few times with guys that work for my FIL company and there’s more than a trailer park now. I’m still not disagreeing with your overall point but my impression is that Rifle is kind of serving as a magnet for new immigrants.
As I said I haven’t been there in 10-15 years so it may be different now. This was my experience in the early 2000s.
This was also right after 9/11 so we got to hear more than one ‘Your dad is from Egypt, isn’t he?’ with a sharp inflection on the end. Nevermind the fact that my father was fucking jewish, they just couldn’t process anything after Egypt came up.
My dad got pulled over in that town just about once a month until the cops figured out that he wasn’t one of ‘them’.
I’ve always been both amused and bemused by the yokel reaction to 9/11.
9/10/01: I’d love to see Jew York burn to the ground!
(Planes fly into the Twin Towers)
9/11/01: HOW DARE THEY?!?
I think their goodwill toward NYC lasted about a week.
I’ve been eyeing GJ for a while.
Well, he is known as GayJay.
Stories like this from a supposedly “good” VA facility make me feel a lot better about working in Phoenix.
At a four-star veterans’ hospital: Care gets ‘worse and worse
No not really, only the criteria used to determine these rankings is mostly meaningless.
No wonder the labour participation rate is low.

Hey that dog is racist!
There’s a comment in there that made me lol.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpCte1Lbf0o
You joke about a dog being racist, but there’s probably an entire body of social science literature somewhere where tenured researchers ponder the internalized racism of pets.
Mine is. It’s embarrassing.
I don’t like where this is heading.
No, he’s cool with Italians.
My current one loves all people. Unless you have a squirrel tail.
What’s the point of having a dog if it doesn’t blindly hate your enemies?
Had a bullmastiff long ago when I lived in Los Angeles. That was one racist dog. He also had zero tolerance for homeless people (I assume it was their stink) and was known to piss on them if they were sleeping in the park.
Bullmastiffs are on the long list of dogs that I would love to own if: 1) I had a bigger backyard, and B) I wasn’t too lazy to exercise them properly.
They do seem like sweet dogs, by and large.
One can train dogs to run on treadmills. My great pyr used to have to do that when we lived in Texas. It was just too darn hot to take sufficiently long walks.
If you hadn’t described it with words, I’d say that’s too cute for words.
A dog you absolutely have to train while young. Ours wasn’t really mean, he just thought it fun and natural to fight with other male dogs.
Good boy!
He also had zero tolerance for homeless people (I assume it was their stink) and was known to piss on them if they were sleeping in the park.
Be honest, you taught him that trick, didn’t you?
Racist dog.
you racist
That’s the one!
It can’t be racist. It’s a black lab.
*ovation*
That “golden retriever” looks nothing like any golden I’ve ever known. It does, however, look suspiciously like a great pyrenees.
GPs are really huge, though. It looks to me like one of those fancy “English Cream” goldens.
I currently have an adult pyr that’s about that size. The head shape, body proportions, pantaloons, etc just don’t say golden to me. But I suppose the owner would know.
(Maybe. I knew someone who owned a pyr that they swore was a “white husky” because that’s what they’d been told by a shelter.)
“white husky”
All that privilege!
I defer to your great GP mind – they are really beautiful dogs!
And with some digging around, it appears Tundra is exactly correct! I can’t believe how similar they are to pyrs. Pages full of images that one can’t tell which they are from puppy hood to adulthood.
That’s what I was thinking, too.
“Probably the least golden golden retriever I’ve ever seen… “
Yeah, I suspect the journalist is using one of these dog identification cards.
Wow. The cops use that one too!
As the dog was sniffing and pawing at the end I thought it was just trying to figure out which end to eat first.
It was trying to get the squeaker out.
It’s probably a Newfie. Newfoundland Retrievers are a pain in the ass if you have a swimming pool. They will naturally save anyone who is drowning, and by drowning I mean ‘in the water’.
“Husband-pods”
wouldn’t it just be more cost-effective to put a Sports Bar in the mall?
No, they have to have special leather seats put in to support those men without spines. They can’t sit on bar stools.
I already have a place to wait while my wife is at the mall. It’s called “home”.
Give inch, take yard
wash, rinse, repeat
its like they’re doing everything possible to kill off low-wage employers as fast as possible.
I like how it’s a union supported measure that applies to non-union workers, and the subtext of the union’s reasoning was that they were doing this to undermine the competition. Regulatory capture FTW!
I think i found your problem.
So if a worker calls in sick and you have to call someone else to come in to cover their shift, not only are you paying the sick worker PTO, and the replacement worker for their shift, you also pay a fine to the government.
Nope, can’t see a downside.
I have an idea. Get a new fucking job!
Are you ready to cry?

Yeh. That’s just straight up weird, man.
You sure about that?
If that video taught me anything, it’s that furries and firearms have a much wider overlap than you could possibly imagine.
Or at the very least, dog people
Dogs are awesome.
One more mutt story. My wife wasn’t a fan of the mutt. She would keep him outside in the backyard most of the time but when he heard me coming home he would be dancing around on the deck waiting for me to let him in.
For some reason or the other, I was in trouble with the wife and when I let the mutt in, he leaped in and we had a few great moments of scratching and dancing. She sniffed that I loved the dog more than me. I replied, “you know if you shook your ass and shoved your face into my crotch every time I came home, maybe I’d love you just as much.”
It did not help, that I thought that was very clever and cackled for an hour. Or that I called all my buddies and repeated that little bon mot to them (and then we’d both cackle).
So much this. Billy Currington. “Like my dog” I’m not good at links…
*sniffs a little* Gosh, dog hair in my eyes. Pay no attention
Must be a strong breeze from MT to MN. My allergies are acting up too.
One of my favorite pictures is my son curled up with my old mutt when
hethey were both puppies. The mutt was only a few days in our house and he and the boy were already crawling behind the couch when they were tired to take a nap. Partners in crime. The best part of the mutt was that he was a hunting machine and when he got older there were times he would look at me and you could tell he was “WTF? Why the fuck am I under these knuckleheads in the pack pecking order?”
Man I miss him. I think the dog hair is thicker now than when I started this reply.
Am I missing something? Looks to me like the dog needs to learn how to respect that kids personal space. Little dude keeps pushing the dog away and dog keeps getting all up in dudes business.
Am I missing something?
A soul? 😉
Fair cop, although I wouldn’t say that i actually miss it.
He wasn’t gonna use it for anything, anyway.
God dammit. These aren’t tears. My contacts are acting up.

WE DEMAND OUR RIGHT TO OUR OWN BULLSHIT “STUDIES” DEPARTMENT
/Mexicans
at what point does the absurdity of identity politics fully-consume-itself? It feels like its getting close, like stomach acid is already starting to dissolve the edges of it. the WaPo story which called marxist feminist geography professors “Scientists” was a pretty good example of ‘when its gone too-far becomes obvious’.
Mexican American Studies at Tucson Unified School District. Do they want to study themselves?
As soon as the no-strings-attached financing model implodes and people are having to rationalize spending their own money on this horseshit.
Higher education bubble needs to burst a little more (and it is now, just very slowly) before they’re really forced to respond.
Wait, has no one told the Mexicans yet that they’re only here to go with pot and ass sex?
If people want to spend their own money to study that crap in college, that’s one thing. But it doesn’t belong in public High Schools funded by tax payers.
My kind of gal.
WTF?
My former sinus rinse technique involved powder….

Hillary still has a frog in her throat.
Hilarious.
I want to know if it was added by someone else or if they did the whole thing.
My trained eye say it was added, two different styles of painting and the frogs outline is over hill’s lips (sorry for that visual).
That would certainly turn a frog gay.
I may make that my new avatar.
i read She Persisted to my 4-year old daughter for the first time. it’s a painful read. too dry. no adventure. no suspense. no protagonist, no antagonist. it just was not a story. it’s like reading an encyclopedia to your kid.
Agitprop tends to be that way.
Don’t have to be!
When you write propaganda about a war, it has a higher likelihood of it being interesting.
When you write propaganda because Elizabeth Warren was being a loudmouthed ass and was told to be quiet by someone who’s job it is to do exactly that…
“She immediately confessed to complicity in the WTC bombing and gave up the rest of Al Qaeda’s global jihidi network.”
Nice!
Child abuse.
Couldn’t just read Green Eggs and Ham? I suppose Dr. Seuss was a white guy.
And not even a Doctor.

I wanted to post this in response
I knew a Russian guy in tech school that joined the AF mostly to speed up the citizenship process. He got paid extra since he was fluent in several languages and would up buying a Lancer Evo.
This was him every Saturday night in Wichita Falls, TX. It would be hilarious except he drank nearly all of us under the table and it didn’t seem to affect his ability to drift.

I’ve found the reason for manspreading
It could also be the fact that women’s pelvic bones are wider set, making it natural to sit with the legs close together. Men’s pelvic bones are more narrow (in a proportional sense) so sitting how women do is something that actually requires a lot of effort. A guy’s legs would be quite fatigued if he sat like a woman for the entire train ride.
… But I don’t expect any of these “[grievance group] Studies” dipshits to know that.
It’s also that the testicles have an optimal temperature that usually isn’t established by jamming them in between two large heat sources (think of the whole ‘laptops killing sperm count’ thing that popped up awhile back). So really it’s a men’s health issue.
Sweaty balls?
Monday afternoon obscure track.
When this album came out I hated it. 27 years (!!) later, I really dig it.
I don’t think I’ve heard songs from either, so I constantly confuse the Replacements and the Residents.
Breakdown of how Soros pays NGOs to import immigrants into Europe to destroy native societies there.
Looks like the Hungarians aren’t too fond of old George either. The Russians were right when they tossed out every NGO he was associated with.
So what is up with this guy? Is he a monster who helped try to genocide his own people or is he the savior of the free world? Because I cannot find any opinions of him outside of those extremes.
I think James Bond would be taking him out if we lived in a better timeline.
After his experiences in his youth I think he adopted the ‘we have to destroy western civilization’ position.
If he’s trying to get 1 million middle eastern immigrants into Europe a year, he must be trying to do that. What in the hell is wrong with someone like that? Did he really help the Nazis try to genocide the Jews? I see people arguing about that, just not sure what of it is true or not.
He was a teenager, and from what I understand, he was basically a clerk who inventoried the property of people the Nazis were murdering.
I don’t expect everyone to join Le Resistance (or however you say it in Hungarian) but you can keep your head down, avoid the bastards, and wait out the war without becoming an active collaborator.
Vaguely related. Anybody remember the movie The Fifth Horseman is Fear? Protagonist is a Jewish doctor forbidden by the Nazis to practice medicine and instead works cataloging property confiscated from Jews.
Speaking of golden retrievers being adorable.
Democrats Divided On Core Message
“We’re Not Hitler!!” vs. “MOAR FREER STUFF”?
There’s something telling about the fact that “defending Obamacare” is supposed to be a winning posture in 2018, when it was the kiss of death in 2014
But they agree that white men all suck, right?
“”We have to be able to screech about BOTH “Russia!!” and “GOP WANNA KILL YOU!!!” at the same time!””- as though this is some sort of extremely difficult feat of skill.
the quotes from Dem party members outside DC actually make some sort of sense. they’re basically, “this shit is stupid and it won’t last”
Our what, now?
The cop who shot the Aussie lady was the first Somali police officer to patrol the 5th precinct … Sad trombone.
an officer fired their weapon
*eye twitch*
A firearm discharged, apparently while it was in the hand of an officer…
It apparently discharged several times. The woman was apparently a gun grabber, so seriously doubt she had a gun at the time. But I bet that she 1. didn’t own a dog and 2. she had a cell phone.
I just read about this today. I mean, what the actual fuck?! The guy in the passenger seat shoots her through the driver’s door. It’s like a reverse-Fargo situation.
The bullets passed inches from his partner. Incredible.
I still don’t get it. This definitely needs more details. I mean, I can’t see even a rookie doing that.
You know with this guy and Jeronimo Yanez (shot Philando Castile) maybe we need a few more white cops?
More about Mohamed Noor.
When’s the BLM protest?
Also, what the hell does this mean?
“I do understand this, they were driving down an alley, the victim approached the car. That’s not necessarily a time you must, but frankly I think it’s a time you should.””
“We believe the police should be held accountable as any other police shooting.”
And by that, you must out of necessity mean ‘not be held accountable’.
Disney is making a new Wrinkle in Time movie. I don’t think they crowbarred in enough black people.

Time to play, guess the fake quote! (no google cheating)
1. “I want to see a man beaten to a bloody pulp with a high-heel shoved in his mouth, like an apple in the mouth of a pig.”
2. “Seeing foreigners visiting America being excited over the things they can say and buy reminds me that we must keep the masses ignorant of freedom so they don’t gain knowledge harmful to our cause.”
3. “It is true that liberty is precious; so precious that it must be carefully rationed.”
4. “To aid the bad in multiplying is, in effect, the same as maliciously providing for our descendants a multitude of enemies.”
5 “When a woman reaches orgasm with a man she is only collaborating with the patriarchal system, eroticizing her own oppression.”

I will reveal the answer at 4:40!
I too, am going to go with 5
[team of lawyers from “Spot the Not” begins drafting Cease and Desist notices]
This is like when Moses sued David Letterman over those Top 10 lists.
There are other commandments that didn’t make the top 10?
Short answer: Yes.
There we’re an extra five
I heard aMel Brooks factoid on the radio last week regarding a scene he had cut from Vlazing Saddles because he thought the audience of the day might not be ready for it. A romantic scene in the dark between Madeline Kahn’s character and the black sheriff Bart. She ask him if what they say about his people is true. Then you hear her heavy breathing and oooing and ahhing and Bart says umm you’re sucking on my elbow.
That scene is on the DVD in the extras. I can;t find the scene on youtube, but here’s Mel Brooks telling Conan about it, about 2 minutes in.
That’s great:)
“Thou shalt not block thy brother’s cock” really should have stayed in.
Yeah, you have to be careful around here. Just the other day I said ‘Bwhahahhaaahhaaa’ and I was nearly kneecapped by the Penguin Mafia before they realized I used a ‘B’, not a ‘M’.
It’s not Spot the Not
it’s Make the Fake™!
The answer is… number 2!
1. Andrea Dworkin
3. V.I. Lenin
4. Herbert Spencer
5. Sheila Jeffreys
“The answer is… number 2!”
…
Is everyone just going to let that one sail over the plate?
Shit.
(I was going to guess 2 and didn’t comment.)
Substitute “telephone handset” for “high heel” and you have a scene from Midnight Cowboy.
The true meaning of marriage: Forcing people to serve you at gunpoint (adding new meaning to the term “shotgun wedding”)
“Florist appeals case to Supreme Court hoping to win the right to discriminate…
“…[This case and the gay-cake case] were among the first to lodge a challenge to marriage equality on the basis of “religious freedom,” setting up a legal battle that will help determine whether conservatives will successfully hollow out marriage equality until it is little more than the ceremonial granting of a useless piece of paper.”
marriage equality until it is little more than the ceremonial granting of a useless piece of paper
um, yeah, that’t the goal. at least from a government standpoint.
That “useless piece of paper” should be the governments only interest in marriage.
Gay ‘marriage’ is not the same as gay ‘weddding’. One is a semi-religious ceremony, the other is a legal partnership, where one partner is put into servitude to the other.
“where one partner is put into servitude to the other”
Eroticizing their own oppression?
An Atheist Conference Is Being Criticized for Noting Its Diverse Speakers
I think it’s a fair criticism. Are you hear to talk about atheism or about identity politics? Cause if it’s the former, I don’t care about the latter and if it’s the latter then how is this an atheism conference?
Fuck Battlebots, I want to watch this on TV!
nice.

I don’t want to watch this on TV. I want to participate.

Another science denier, I see.
That’s an award winning song?
And this was champion-level debate
Please tell me that’s parody.
It is not at all.
I went to an inner city high school and most of my teachers especially the white ones lowered the standards because they felt bad (they thought we weren’t capable of doing the work) but I had teacher who basically had the attitude of, “Fuck that shit, I’m holding you to high standards and if you flunk, so be it.” We hated her, but almost 15 years since I graduated high school, she’s the only teacher I still visit.
These poor kids from the debate competition will enter the adult world and realize that no one cares whether they are black or where they come from. What people will care about is whether you can do the work or not. Giving them this award harms them in the long run but also pisses the other kids who worked their asses off.
“What people will care about is whether you can do the work or not.”
I sincerely hope so. I would hate to think that the next time I step on a 747, the pilot qualified because his instructor felt sorry for him and used lower standards.
The guys got robbed. How the hell can you you pull off the fried chicken argument like that and not win the debate. The girls never even brought up fried chicken at all. They just said nigga a lot which isn’t even an argument unless your the girl at the bar I was at the other week who was arguing about the NBA draft and who according to her was a real nigga which she brought up 27 times.
THAT GOT A FUCKINNG EMMY NOMINATION?!
*slits wrists*
Oh, a nomination. Well, how many candidates get nominated each year?
You miss the point. A group of people thought that there is a possibility that particular song might be the best thing on TV in the last year. Think about that for a minute.
I’d have to listen to the competition first.
And all modern music seems the same to me. Now get off my lawn.
If it ain’t Baroque, don’t play it
It should be Earth Radio- Human Music.
No one thinks that. It’s just a bunch of tards in the entertainment industry trying to out prog one another.
But… that song was genuinely awful. Like holy shit I would stab my ears with knitting needles before listening to it again.
Who gives a shit about Emmys?
My wife thought I was being unreasonable when I told her that I would not be showing my kids his show. Then I showed her this video. Fuck that guy.

So D.A.R.E. had a solicitation booth outside the grocery store the other day. When the guy asked if I were familiar with it, all I could do is laugh heartily and say “Ahhh…yeah”. Then, apparently not groking my tone of voice, he asked if I would like to make a monthly recurring donation.
El. Oh. El.
Fuckin’ D.A.R.E., man.
The DARE program in my elementary school had a creepy clown named Mr. No who would show up with some cops. He smelled.
That was just the local crackhead doing his community service for the month.
Or Jeff Sessions.
Most people must not laugh at them
I hope you don’t do the same thing to Girl Scouts.
Girl Scouts have the good
drugscookiesI’m not going to say it.
I had to do D.A.R.E in fifth grade and sadly bought into all of that shit. Fast forward a decade or so, I was helping my parents clean out their garage and found my D.A.R.E. certificate and pledge that I would never drink or do drugs. I looked at it, chuckled, and threw that shit away
I wish I had been involved in DARE back then; it would be pretty sweet to do some lines off that certificate.
You’re supposed to use that to snort some coke off a hookers arse.
Why can’t you do both?
You really need to visit Chez OMWC/SP one of these days.
Just Tweetered this link to the grocery store
“Today’s D. A. R. E. is ten times more powerful than the D. A. R. E. you used as a kid!”

“The New York Times really sucks!”
(adapted from a joke about the band Phish)
David Brooks is too good for that shit. Aspire to be better, you guys!
“We were in the stage, which I guess all of us are still in, of trying to become more integrated, coherent and responsible people. This process usually involves using the powers of reason, temperance and self-control — not qualities one associates with being high.”
Not qualities one associates with the left either.
I guess it takes no self-control to drop acid three times a year, or smoke a joint maybe four times a year. Those are my rates of usage. No, I guess I’m powerless, caught in the iron grip of addiction.
“But, of course, these are the core questions: Laws profoundly mold culture, so what sort of community do we want our laws to nurture? What sort of individuals and behaviors do our governments want to encourage? I’d say that in healthy societies government wants to subtly tip the scale to favor temperate, prudent, self-governing citizenship. In those societies, government subtly encourages the highest pleasures, like enjoying the arts or being in nature, and discourages lesser pleasures, like being stoned.
“In legalizing weed, citizens of Colorado are, indeed, enhancing individual freedom. But they are also nurturing a moral ecology in which it is a bit harder to be the sort of person most of us want to be.”
“subtly.” Good one, Brooks!
Remember kids, if you don’t do drugs you might end up a lying New York Times writer with your head completely up your ass.
What is this guy’s salary?

Rhetorical question to make sure you guys RTFA.
i think it was posted earlier here or in the AM links
I read all of it. Moral of the story? Drug laws are for peasants.
I was more interested in what Sarah Warren’s “hourly fees” were
“He also is a central witness in a $185-million lawsuit in which the University of California has accused USC of misconduct in its hiring away of a star researcher.”
Interesting…not sure what’s going on here…
That’s the life!
somehow you can be a complete alcoholic who routinely falls down on their face, and its something that makes your friends say ‘maybe you should get some therapy’.
but if you smoke meth and still manage to hold down a successful job, its a shock deserving national exposure.
basically, there’s no real ‘crime’ here, but its a scandal that a smart, successful man likes to get high and party with hot women.
Nothing’s going to happen to this guy. Laws are for peasants. All drugs are perfectly legal if you have enough money. Hell, if you’re a US Senator, you can probably drink gin and tonics and snort line after line of coke and meth during a Senate session, live on C-SPAN, and nothing will happen to you. Except you would be drunk and high on TV.
yeah, i get that. you simply apologize and spend a month in fake-rehab until the news blows over.
“Puliafito resigned his $1.1-million-a-year post in March 2016”
You win one internet.
Dafuq? College Park, in the People’s Republic of MD, is considering letting non-citizens vote in local elections. What would be great is if this goes through, most of the immigrants who vote, vote Republican.
I believe that Chicago does the very same thing. With seven colleges and universities in the city, it creates a huge advantage for the local Democrats.
“seven colleges and universities in” Chicago
Much more than seven of these.
There really is a wiki page on everything isn’t there.
I’d think College Park is a pretty reliable D stronghold (as is Shitcago). This just seems like foolhardy virtue signaling. And it’s gonna cost ’em when they get sued.
You can stop thinking about it, I can 100% assure you of that.
It can’t possibly make a difference, there’s no Republican going to win in that area anyway, not even close.
“Most of the immigrants vote Republican”
Is that true? Seriously asking.
No – I think most immigrants are overwhelmingly D. But I think it would be schadenfreude-tastic if College Park did this thing, then suddenly found themselves surrounded by Republicans on the city council.
OK, that’s what I thought. Every once in a while some Cobalt Blue jurisdiction tries this and I always wonder how they think it’ll pass legal muster.
What I’ve seen with immigrants, I believe it depends on who their American friends and co-workers are. I’ve had several immigrants actually ask me who they should vote for. I just tell them to never vote for Democrats.
College Park is too close to DC. It may as well be in DC.
Maryland in general is pretty much the most liberal thing I have experienced in America. California and New York have at least some rural areas, but MD is as blue as a smurf’s frozen dick all the way through. There are some rural parts on the eastern shore but it’s barely a blip.
This isn’t true. If you’re along the bay, Baltimore down to Annapolis and the area north of DC, then it’s deep blue. Outside of that, it’s all red. The problem is that nearly all of the population is in Baltimore and around DC. All of Western MD is deep red and so is the rural South. There was even a movement a while back to create West Maryland and secede from Baltimore and Annapolis. So the majority of MD is not blue, but the blue part has all of the votes. Pretty much like NY. Talk to people in rural MD, they hate progs.
I was born in Baltimore and lived in a suburb for most of my childhood. Luckily my parents realized what liberal shithole MD was and got out. My cousins weren’t so lucky. The guy seems relatively well adjusted but my female cousin went full progtard. I could never live there again.
We somehow got a R governor. I think it was because his wife is Korean and all the Koreans in Howard county voted for him. I don’t think the guys ever done anything a Republican would normally do though, probably because the entire legislature is Democrat. He’s sort of like the token Republican I guess.
That’s why I say MD is all blue. Your republicans are somewhere to the left of Chris Christie.
Looked it up. Dems have a super-majority in the State Senate, so they just override his vetos the entire time. They’re going to try to break it next year, but that could be difficult.
Found another fact: apparently Maryland is so neon blue that the Senate has had this supermajority for nearly 100 years. Just having 1 more Republican required to break the supermajority will make MD the most red it’s ever been.
Your republicans are somewhere to the left of Chris Christie.
Actually, Hogan’s pretty decent as far as Republicans go. But as The Zenome Project pointed out, the Dems have an indelible supermajority. Also, the population is happy to constitutionally amend themselves into single-party rule. It’s basically the major population centers ruling the rest of the state. But to add to Hyperion’s point, even within the 95 corridor there are pockets of red. They’re just drowned/gerrymandered (which is totally cool guys because Democrats aren’t racist, seriously that is what the courts are saying) out of proportional representation.
“Found another fact: apparently Maryland is so neon blue ”
It is by voter number, like I said. But the west is solidly red. You can actually observe this if you drive around the city during an election and then drive out of the city. As soon as you cross the line into Howard county or northwest into Carroll county and west and north from there all they way to PA and WV, you won’t see anything but GOP signs in yards, where as in the city, you only see Democrat signs. By land area, MD is red. Of course, that doesn’t count. Carroll county from what I have heard, has pretty much driven every Democrat politician out of town. Progs have been trying to infect Frederick for a while now, but it’s still red.
It’s kind of hilarious that there were still enough kulaks in MD to secretly elect an R governor in an off-year. Apparently he’s popular even with the Dems, and he’s likely going to be reelected. They’re Also going to try to break the Dem supermajority for the first time in a decade or so next year. Good luck to that.
I doubt it. Being next to DC means there are just too many leeches sucking on the teat of big gov. Voting red means there might be a ghost of a chance that some of that fat tax money may not reach them.
Looked up his victory map. It seems like he won by dominating the rural vote and the Baltimore suburban vote, which made up for the deep blue DC suburbs and urban Baltimore.
Hogan won by getting Howard and Baltimore counties, two places that “lean blue” but are also full of money (mostly government and contractor money, but still). Nobody expected that (ring any bells?). Unfortunately, while I think there are some similarities between Trump’s win and Hogan’s win, the former is going to cost the latter in 2018. Maryland doesn’t keep Republican governors for long, and the state Democratic Party is going to do everything they can to tie Hogan to Trump. In a state that went 60% for Clinton, that’s likely to be an effective strategy.
Howard County is very wealthy. Also, the Koreans there and I know more than a few of them, hate Democrats as much as we do. And like I said, the Gov’s wife is Korean, so that helped as well. There is a very large pop of Koreans in Howard County.
If by Kulaks, you mean Koreans, then yeah.
Islam, you mischievous little scamp, you.
Theocracy, in general, is pretty bad for development, liberty and prosperity. Islam especially so.
I would argue that all forms of government are a theocracy in some form or another. Since, at least in representative governments, the voters generally vote for candidates that (outwardly, at least) reflect their values and beliefs.
I wonder if 40 years from now, a video of Turkey today will be as poignant.
I think Turkey is pretty much done.
Yeah.
Maybe I should be wondering about a video of England in 40 years.
I don’t know if any of Europe is going to last 40 years, not as what it was, sort of is still. The tourism industry is going to completely die off and the influx of 3rd world immigrants is going to kill their democratic socialism experiment. I just don’t see any way this turns out good.
Me and my wife decided to go to Austria last year, before it got too bad. By all accounts we’ll have plenty of time to visit Poland though.
At least for now, some parts of Europe aren’t all that bad. Prague is nice, though watch out for pickpockets. I was in Munich for Oktoberfest last year and I didn’t see all that much of a difference from when I was in Munich ten years ago.
One of the years I was in the dorms during my undergrad years, there were Iranians in the room next door. They told me that their parents hated the Shah because he was a foreign puppet. They’d protest the Shah during the day, then head to the discos and bars at night. Then the Shah got deposed and the Ayatollahs took over. Oops.
I was looking at the FB profile of this girl (she befriended me) who I went to college with at DePaul during the mid 2000’s and we both hung out with each other a lot but it never went anywhere. Needless to say I was fairly heartbroken when she told me that I wasn’t boyfriend material. But looking at her FB page, I fucking dodged a bullet.
She is a perfect caricature of a third wave feminist and we would have probably killed each other if we did date. I’m happy that she’s doing her dream job (college librarian) but holy shit-balls, she is not a rational person when it comes to politics, which is sad because she’s not a moron.
Girlfriend from early college: really smart, fun, great ass, amazing sex. She later dumped me and I was broken up over it for quite a while.
Fast forward 10 years, she has a PhD in Feminist Literature and a website devoted to “Intersectional Social Justice”. G-d was doing me a favor when she dropped my ass.
When I got dumped by my first serious girlfriend in 2006, I was pretty broken up about it. But today: she’s gained about 75 pounds, and she’s also a fervent Bernie Sanders supporter, and people tell me that her main motivation seems to be the possibility of getting her student loan debt erased. She’s also openly racist against all non-whites with the exception of Asians (which is why she had no problem slobbin’ on my knob).
She’s one of those Progressives who grew up in the North Shore area (an affluent area of suburbs north of Chicago) but yet thinks that she understands the “people” and always cries about privilege and mansplaining. The worst sorts of Progressives are the rich ones.
I’m married and all that stuff so there’s no way an intimate relationship would ever happen, but she was still cool to hang with because she was a huge history buff like myself. But looking at her page, there’s no way she could ever find herself having a conversation with a libertarian if we were to ever just hang out on friendly terms. The tragedy of her and others like her is that they can’t fathom someone who believes differently from them as not being evil and stupid.
Bewildering that anyone with a lot of history knowledge could be a leftist.
The history department at DePaul were filled with Leftists who eschewed any independent thought outside of their Marxist views.
Why do you think the Left worked so hard to capture the universities?
Oh, I know. It’s just bewildering how they turn a blind eye to Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Castro murdering more than 100 million people. Yeah, I know, that wasn’t real socialism, but they had the right ideas and good intentions.
I have an ex girlfriend who makes me relate to that. We have always been friends even after our breakup and I always had a flame in my heart for her until the last election. She showed her true colors with some serious TDS. The last discussion we had right before the election she explained to me how she did not like the Democrats so much, but they were the only thing stopping the R’s from turning the United States into Hand Maids Tail and putting everyone in camps. Got a bit weird for me. Smart women are sometimes nuts.
I wouldn’t mind some hand maids tail. HEYOOOO!
Anyone who believed that Trump’s election was a harbinger to the Handmaiden’s Tale is an indicator that they are dumb.
lol
*(cues up favorite version of ‘Dreams‘)
Oddly enough, my wife is a Children’s Librarian in the Northwest Suburbs. She’s pretty liberal but hates teacher’s unions and think that the third wave feminists are morons.
I first read that as “Oddly enough, my wife is a Children’s Library in the Northwest Suburbs” and thought ‘that is odd’.
I have nothing against librarians and have the utmost respect for the occupation.
its just that when i think “dream jobs”, i think = bullfighter, astronaut, rock star, editor of hustler magazine, official bourbon-taster, etc.
My dream job was to be an architect until I found out that you had to do some heavy math.
So was mine until I found out they expected you to have some sort of artistic talent.
Is your real name Costanza?
I saw an ad on Indeed.com for a guitar playing astronaut who likes Hustler magazine and has a discerning bourbon taste just last week.
I need an assistant, obviously.
My Ex is probably fabulously wealthy and happy.
Also, shockingly looks exactly the same as the last time I saw her ~7 years ago. I always felt women take breakups better than men.
Wife 1 was a foaming-at-the-mouth leftist feminist. But I was hormone addled and thought, “Meh, I can work on that.” She knew it was over when I bought a copy of Barry Goldwater’s autobiography, she read it, and was horrified to find how much of it made sense to her. The only way to expunge that thought was to divorce me.
Oh, I’m sure there were many other reasons to divorce you.
Are you kidding? I’m a fucking (((saint))).
I really need to study my world religions…
All my significant others have always been liberals. Conservative and libertarian women are in low supply especially in the People’s Republic of Cook County and the Conservative women I knew in my Republican club at DePaul where fairly uptight and rarely dated outside of their race.
It’s your duty as a libertarian man to convert leftwing women one at a time. With your penis.
Ever since we started seeing each other she has a hatred for teacher unions and believe that charity is voluntary and not by government force.
Gun control on the other hand, she still believes that it will stop the shootings.
Well, she’s invited over too.
We would love to come up North and hang with you guys. I work in P.E. so my life has been work, work, and work, so it would be awesome if I could just sit around some like minded folks and drink beer and shoot the shit.
Is the email addy you used to sign up here a good one?
Yeah, the email I have for this site is good.
I stumbled on the profile on a dating site of a woman I once knew. I had thought about asking her out but never did. After reading her profile I realized I made the correct decision.
“Needless to say I was fairly heartbroken when she told me that I wasn’t boyfriend material. But looking at her FB page, I fucking dodged a bullet.”
Dude, if I had a dollar for every one of them I could say that about…

Nothing ‘new’. I meant to say.
Talk to me about “disproportionate policing” after you’ve factored in “disproportionate criminality” and then maybe I’ll give a fuck.
I have to wonder if the revolving jailhouse door of convicted shooters isn’t part of a larger goal of getting people so fed up with gun violence they can push a total gun ban. These gang member want some prison time to increase their street cred. Being an ex-con is like a badge of honor that gets them respect from the younger gang members. Cause you know, they’re idiots.
It’s more to do with how connected the local pols are to organized crime. They can’t lock up too many of them because they would then get targeted themselves.
Beer for tonight. It’s OK.
You guys with your fancy damn beers. If I get a 6 of stella I feel like I just bought a bottle of Dom.
I had this last night on draft which was a nice refreshing summer beer.

Also had the Honey Wheat Lager from these guys which was also very refreshing. Both were very good. Probably give the edge to this flavor wise.

I see some good beers in both your links. Looks like Ohio only distribution unfortunately.
Probably, they’re both pretty small and haven’t been around a real long time. North High probably has a decent shot at some growth.
Yellow Springs is a very small town. Dave Chappelle lives there.
I have a friend outside Cincinnati. I’ll keep these in mind if I’m out there again visiting him. Thanks!
I’ll have to ask some of my friends if they have heard about them.

I know all those words, but this sentence makes no sense at all. What in the world is leftover wine?
😀
I think I got prematurely boring. My parents will party harder than me these days.
I can’t drink a whole bottle in one go. Half a bottle, maybe.

Now I’ve got a ton of liquor in my cabinet that no one is drinking.

I remember reading from one of you guys that without the Second Amendment, we wouldn’t have the First Amendment.
‘The second protects the first’ is a common saying among gun guys, as well as ‘the second protects the rest’.
Sort of off topic, but it’s hilarious to hear the Left curse the Constitution when Obama was in power because it restrained him (somewhat) but now since the Donald occupies the White House, the Left are in love with the Founding Fathers and the Constitution once again.
Yeah, when Barry was king, damn that obstructionist congress! Once Trump gets elected elected that tune changes right quick and in a hurry.
This is a common theme with them. They still hate the Constitution. It’s in the way of their great utopian state.

I agree with some of it but I really don’t like the “zomg its all teh internets fault!” If you can’t learn to moderate your vices then you won’t be a productive member of society. He didn’t get to the “its the corporations” thing until about the 10:40 mark (out of 12mins)
but i agree. He was making an interesting case. but i think its worth realizing = How does a guy like this make money? By selling his motivational-speaking + self-help books to CORPORATIONS.
People like him are constantly looking for corporate consulting /marketing strategy gigs. And that’s how you ‘sell’. You tell the ‘corporations’ that “You just don’t *get it*” I GET IT.
meanwhile “THIS GUY GETS IT”, says the Nike/Apple/Microsoft/Citibank Human Resources Middle Manager. checks for $10,000 per-speaking engagement float down from sky.

Through his typical (and perhaps strategic?) hyperbole, Trump gets the NYT’s to admit that his legislative record thus far has been pretty…average. The irony is probably lost on them and most of their readers as they gulp down stories from Dowd and the likes hyperventilating how dark things have become in DC.
Trump throws these big fat lures out there and mainstream morons just set that fucking hook every day like clockwork don’t they.
Maybe they should take some advice from their second favorite president.
Bernstein declares cover-up in story that broke because Trump administration disclosed it to the federal government. He liberally throws around the word “lying” to describe the Trump administration on the subject of Russia when far simpler explanations make far more sense.
“far simpler explanations”
Lizard people?
Mind your Ps and Qs son, the man broke Watergate.
He Felt he had to.
And cheated on his pregnant wife. If anyone knows about being a scummy liar, it’s Bernstein.
Sure, he broke Watergate. A leftist reporter in a left-leaning publication pursued malfeasance associated with a Republican administration. I’m impressed by his effort, not by his moral character. It’s not exactly Dan Rather uncovering some terrible, dark secret about the Clintons and shouting it from the rooftops, is it?
and gave birth to the myth of “journalism holding power accountable”
**from the podcast @Reason not so long ago, the ‘media historian’ pointed out that the meat of the Watergate scandal was 90% about the discovery of Nixons tapes.
The WaPo dudes did nothing but fill in a sidebar to the real story.
I always saw Bernstein as journalism’s answer to Hillary. He found a more talented, smarter partner (Woodward) and rode him to the top.
“He liberally throws around the word “lying” to describe the Trump administration on the subject of Russia when far simpler explanations make far more sense.”
He’s not trying to make sense. He is trying to fabricate reality for the average sheep who pay little attention to the facts and the details.
“Did I ever tell you how I helped rid the country of an evil President?”

Well, Obamacare is now still the law. The Senate bill is now dead. The sensible thing would be to just put up a straight up repeal for a vote, but I think we know the likelihood of that happening. Probably about the same likelihood that we see real tax reform happening in this Congress. Fucking useless Elephants.
AP: The Senate bill eliminated mandates and taxes under Obamacare, and unraveled a Medicaid expansion. But for conservatives like Lee and Paul it didn’t go far enough in delivering on Republican Party promises to undo Obama’s law, while moderates like Collins viewed the bill as too extreme in yanking insurance coverage from millions.
Fuck Collins.
Does the AP ever mention moderate Democrats?
It would be quite a concession on their part, because it would imply that some Democrats are *not* moderate.
I’m a moderate on taxation. I don’t believe it’s theft, but more like a really aggressive way to take someone’s money.
But look at the AP’s framing – you’ve got your moderates who are worried about millions of people losing insurance, and you’ve got your Lee/Paul style conservatives who are trying to fulfill and anti-Obama campaign promise.
Let’s see…moderates who care about people having health care versus conservative ideologues who want to bash Obama.
Collins is a Democrat. Anyway, I’m not at all disappointed by this. Democrats still own this heap of dung and it’s going down in flames, and the Democrats will be blamed for it. Either repeal it, or let it crash and burn.
Ah, the Venezuelan technique. *Tents fingers and cackles*
I am Jack’s complete lack of surprise. And I agree on real tax reform.
No matter how well the Democrats set the Republicans up for success, the Republicans manage to shoot themselves in the foot repeatedly instead.
I’d much rather they pass Trump’s tax cut and leave Obamacare to crash and burn. Then in a year or so, they can repeal what’s left of the burning corpse of Obamacare.
Largest transfer of wealth in history.
-Pelosi
The only thing to say for the GOP here is that this was actually done in a timely manner. It just wasn’t in-line with any of the campaign rhetoric from Trump or the party itself. It took the Dems a pretty long time to put together anything despite healthcare reform being on the agenda since FDR, and the ACA is the best they could manage despite having a filibuster proof majority for much of that time. The media is just more willing to hold Republicans to account/actively sabotage it all. It’s all made worse by 6 or so years of voting for repeals and then backtracking once in power.
It’s pretty fucking tough to pass sweeping healthcare legislation. It’s even tougher with 52 seats in the Senate. The closest thing I have to a strategy here would have been to hammer home the point to everyone in the party that they gained power after Obamacare’s passage. But you’re asking your political hacks to tune out a lot of noise, and plenty of them are vulnerable over the next 2-4 years. With healthcare, it’s one of those things where things are going to get worse before they get better.
Democracy does not incentivize long term planning or risky propositions. Far better to vote for some bill with a dead kid’s name slapped onto it. Feel good shit with little real impact.
Therefore = Liberals Can’t Win

**disclosure: I don’t like Josh Barro, but he seems to have stumbled onto the obvious here. finally. i just think the odds of anyone on the left taking his advice is (thankfully) nil. In fact, in response, they will triple their ‘annoying’ output.
***I think (hat tip to whomever pointed it out) Emmit Retsin made the same point better in the ‘Smug Style In American Politics’ piece, which i also noted was something pointed out many times in the past. Its just notable coming from barro because he’s very much the ‘establishment left’.
****my conviction that no one will actually listen to his point is semi confirmed in his repeated attempts to sugar the pill with “everyone agrees with [democrats] already, they just don’t know it!” assertions. He also misreads polls the way everyone in his professional class do.
Problem number one with this article, is that it starts with a false premise. There aren’t any fucking liberals, they’re leftists.
The 2nd major problem is this: “As I see it, Democrats’ problem isn’t that they’re on the wrong side of policy issues.”
No, their policies are exactly what the problem is. The fact that they’ve exacerbated that problem with their smugness and identity politics is just rubbing salt in their own wounds. It’s not the root of the problem. The root of the problem is how far left they’ve went and their only solution to anything is more taxes and more government.
And “They don’t always want to prohibit those choices.”
Yes they do, they’d ban every fucking single thing they don’t like if they could.
best of luck getting the rest of the country to change the standard terminology overnight. I think Prog has stuck, but ‘leftist’ doesn’t work because frankly its not really true. most democrats aren’t leftists of the “actually read Marx” variety. they are little different in philosophy than the average republican voter. And i think he’s probably right that most people in the country would probably accept lots of the ‘beneficent big govt ideas’ that democrats pitch if it weren’t for their Coastal Elitism coating it all.
I agree that they are on the wrong side on some policy issues, but not all. I think if they dropped the transgender and climate change nonsense they’d convert large swaths of the heartland back to blue in no time.
Free shit is an alluring siren song for most.
but ‘leftist’ doesn’t work because frankly its not really true. most democrats aren’t leftists of the “actually read Marx” variety.
Pretty much. The modern ‘leftist’ is more driven by emotion than ideology, i.e. they want public healthcare because “wouldn’t it be great if everyone had free medical care and we saved the people who can’t afford it?” not because it’s some redistribution scheme in order to level the playing field to eventually bring about the Worker’s Paradise.
Those are the useful idiots who have always been part of the left.
Go back and read Lenin’s discourses on Marx and society. Then compare it to the modern left wing upper class. No, it is not the same.
How about comparing them to Fabians, and garbage humans like the Webbs particularly?
My point is that the modern left is decidedly less philosophical and ideological than its precursors. Democratic operators and even people like the Bernie Bros are not arguing amongst themselves about the nature of the Hegelian dialectic.
Lenin was willing to admit that his revolution would be stained with blood, in fact he accepted and approved of the outcome as a natural part of the process. The modern left denies its existence.
Oh to be sure, the modern lot are bloodless, wishy-washy cretins of no experience with the very people they are trying to “help”, no consistent ideology that will run a society, who are mostly in it for the status and feels and would shit their pants if an actual revolution came.
But I think Hyperion is right, such people have always been an integral part of the Western left (in places where being a Communist was illegal as in multi-year prison terms, that lot melted away fast). Road to Wiggan Pier has a lot to say about them.
“best of luck getting the rest of the country to change the standard terminology overnight.”
Not overnight, but it’s happening.
If it’s happening it’s because they fucked up “liberal” so bad, and it’s been, what, a century? since they adopted it, so “progressive” is no longer as radioactive as it was, say, 50 years ago.
No, it’s not. Instead you have people like Dave Rubin calling themselves ‘classical liberals’ while supporting things like public healthcare. People like Rubin ‘taking the term back’ is actually worse because it just smuggles left wing ideals back into liberalism with it.
I’m talking about what other’s call them, not what they call themselves. This isn’t the only place I read the comments. The use of ‘leftist’ instead of liberal is far more prevalent than it was a couple of years ago.
Of course the liberals are going to change up their preferred moniker again. It was communism, then socialism, then progressive, then liberal, then socialist again, the progressive again. Classical liberal, that’s hilarious, fucking progs.
Conservatives ranting about ‘leftists’ instead of liberals don’t mean shit. I read comments on other sites too and it’s not like the left-wing has given up on the moniker yet.
Only I’m not saying the left have given up on the moniker. I’m saying that more people now refuse to call them liberals, because they obviously are no such thing.
I remember in the Bush era progressive was a derogatory term used with condescension by mainstream Democrats. The younger people I argued with were very fond of telling me they weren’t liberals, but progressives. Then along came the recession and Obama, and it became the mainstream. Just an observation.
Economic down times lead people to look for plans. They don’t have to be good plans, but people want something concrete and the free market isn’t going to sell well. It’s the reason they could force Obamacare down even if Dems knew it would cost them electorally. A lot of their ideas are popular and libertarians/conservatives who deny that are kidding themselves. Trump pushed a shit ton of economic populism to get narrowly elected, lest we forget.
It’s also important to remember that for all the shit Reagan gets from some libertarians for his spending, he’s hated by the left because he helped implement a cultural shift. It took half a fucking century after FDR’s corpse went into the ground to begin to reverse his brand of populism. Point being – progressives did win the 20th century cultural war by far. Those ideas are deeply ingrained in nearly all Americans, even the conservative ones, and pushed by all major institutions. They are sold as obviously good from grade school on up.
Lest we forget, progressivism was in both parties at its rise. Even sainted Coolidge was a progressive in his earlier political career.
If Republicans are guilty of capitulating due to the media bubble, Democrats are stuck in a cycle where they enjoy the smell of their own shit. They have no one to critique them that can’t be safely ignored or scalped given enough time. All the serious people they know tell them what they want to hear. This also contributes to their inability to accept diversity within their party and tweak their agenda to win local elections. The GOP doesn’t have these luxuries, but demographics make it tough to gain large majorities and the patchwork reps they do get in can’t agree on much of anything anymore. Even tax cuts.
One party has no real leadership while the other is disgustingly top heavy.
Why would the voters on the receiving end of that smug condescension trust such a movement to operate the government in their best interest?
Because that’s what worked on the liberal elitists themselves. Parents beat their kids because they were beat as kids. You see those YouTube street fight videos and dudes calling each other “bitch!” and wonder why that would trigger them so much. I wouldn’t really care. I’ve had Japanese oyajis pissed at me and go into guttural Japanese on me and I just laugh.
For fuck’s sake…
So you take a few stacked polls (no link) as proof, then pretend those same didn’t tell you what you don’t want to hear on illegal immigration, and top it off with “Most Americans agree with mainstream GOP position on abortion, fiercely disagree with mainstream Democrat position on same. Fact Check Verdict: Pox on both houses.”
And his solution – double down on progressiveness but stop insulting and harassing scum openly until they give you power. GENIUS!
I should, however, give praise on finally someone turning the “They vote against their own interests!!!!” argument on the progs and demonstrated that, yes, do you.
“And universal background checks to buy guns are even more popular than that.”
You see, this is why when they seem to believe they are self reflecting, they certainly are doing no such thing. They live in a bubble and they cannot think outside of it. This is why I feel confident that the left will move further left, double down on identity politics, continue to lose, and have no self awareness at all, why it’s happening.
And keep in mind, this is a guy who is trying to get them to step out of the bubble!
Yeah, that’s what I’m saying. He’s one of the reasonable ones, apparently, and he can’t even manage to be honest with himself.
You’re correct this is one of those things he completely misunderstands the polls about. its one of a few.
its an example of one of those polls which was actually designed to produce a bullshit # (like the 97% climate change thing) to convince others… but instead mostly serves to confuse and convince themselves, because now they just wonder “if so many people agree, surely we should keep trying!” They don’t realize the poll only reflected people’s grudging admission that the “background checks” we already do are probably the most that can be done; not that they want MORE or MORE EXTENSIVE ones. They fooled themselves into thinking that they indicate that people want more gun laws, when instead all they showed was that people being polled probably understand those gun laws far better than people like Barro do
Yeah, they must have polled the newsroom at Business Insider to come up with those numbers.
However, I do think ‘Progressive’ is an unintentionally correct term for the modern left, since 1900 Progressivism was basically fascism repackaged for an American audience.
In the mood for some lazy, hysterical handwringing? Well look no further.

The cop who murdered that woman in Minneapolis is really, really sorry you guys. I think we should just put him back on the job now. With a bonus.
Some people are learning the correct lesson from this.
I hate cops. Quite a bit. But I’m going to reserve judgement until I hear details. The assumption is that he’s a piece of shit. The circumstances right now tell me that he was probably at best grossly negligent. I’m not going to condemn him until I know what happened. What’s really fucking deplorable and should be the focus of our ire, in my view, is the way the police departments respond. It’s a lack of accountability combined with perverse incentives.
That’s the entire problem, isn’t it. Diminished accountability creates abhorrent behavior. Thin blue line? No, more like a long brown streak.
Agreed, but this one seems more egregious than most (and there are a lot of egregious shootings). There really isn’t a situation one can imagine where the shooting can in any way be justified (though the union is damn sure going to try to find one).
We know he’s a piece of shit. The only question is whether he’s a horrifically negligent one (as you know, there’s no such thing as an “accidental” shooting) or an actually murderous one. And thanks to the fact that he didn’t have his camera on (contra department policy), he’s going to get the benefit of the doubt, because cop.
Sure we can reserve judgement. But I’m still going to have to guess what happened. She was running towards the car with her cell phone in her hand, not knowing any better, just wanting to do something she thought was good, and he panic fire shot her, several fucking times. I mean you never know though. Guns being autonomous sentient things, the damn thing may have just jumped out of it’s holster and started shooting at random women in their pajamas, all on it’s very own.
What the woman was doing in gun’s pajamas, they’ll never know….
Every damn time this happens, you hope against all odds that finally this is the time that something happens, but it never does. I mean really? Can this just go on forever? Is there anyone that is not more afraid of being killed by a cop at a random traffic stop or by them just showing up at the wrong address, than by criminals? Because I can’t even imagine that.
It can and will go on for a while. There really are not that many deaths in a country of 300 million people, race will always fuck up the perception of the problem, and power of unions ensures that actual solutions will not be implemented.
This. Nothing will happen. The vast majority of Americans practically worship cops – observe the intro nearly any American sporting event if you need proof.
His finger should never have been on the trigger until he fully intended to shoot. I know this. I don’t if the average cop knows this and the evidence I’ve seen indicates that they don’t. I think they typically do follow protocol, sadly. Protocol is just vague and poorly defined, or just outright wrong. Their training kind of sucks and focuses on the wrong things. The guy probably wasn’t wired to have a gun and a badge, but his colleagues will rally around him out of some completely moronic faux warrior ethos that’s been created around their chosen career choice.
Someone is dead who clearly should not be. There needs to be real consequences for that. Question I have is how much.
Aw, well shucks then. Just let the poor guy off with a warning. We can’t mess up his dreams of being a cop after killing just one innocent person.
You mean without a paid vacation? What sort of monster cop hater are you?
Jesus, mere paid vacation? Promotion, after he was so traumatized by white privilege!
What is he sorry for? Why the fuck did he shoot her? Why was his camera not on? You know, it’s just about, no it’s way past time that Americans stop putting up with this shit.
That ship sailed unfortunately. It’s about race now. Cop criticism is equivalent to BLM member. BLM is unpopular among sane people so nobody wants the issue.
Yeah, BLM really ruined any chance of meaningful police reform. This was the intent of the race hustlers like Sharpton who inserted themselves into it. And it worked.
A good friend and I go to into a pretty heated argument about BLM a few weeks back. She has evidently turned into a pretty hardcore prog. She had always been liberal, but never that bad. The funniest thing was every time I gave her an indisputable fact was when she flipped out the most and accused me of being full of shit.
The first time a BLM protest passed by me (I’m in SF and travel around the city all day for work and have seen about three) I noticed that there was a large number of signs that had RevCom in orange on the front of many of the signs. I also noticed plenty in news pictures of protests.

I don’t think there is a pop song that I hate more than Imagine. A large part of that is how many fucking times I have heard it combined with the reverence it commands in people.
Which is pretty impressive given that it’s the most leftist song I can think of outside of a Billy Bragg concert.
Bah, Lefties can write far better than that shit when they want to!
Ah, found the punk version of my youth!
Oh, don’t I know it.
Honestly, I never enjoyed that anthem. It’s weird that Russia adopted it, when the Imperial Russian Anthem has a damn fine tune, and if you want to sex it up, Tchaikovsky did it twice (in Marche Slave and 1812 Overture).
No way. The Commie/current one screams “Russia” to me. And the tune is amazing.

I had a roommate for a summer college internship who was obsessed with that REM album. If you think it’s bad just casually listening, imagine being forced to hear it on repeat for a month.
Every song on it to this day makes me want to slam a heavy rock into whatever’s playing it.
I am a fan of their older stuff – they peaked with Life’s Rich Pageant.
My mom and my older brother loved REM when I was a little kid. One time we drove from Ohio to some lake in Michigan and they played the same damn REM tape the whole way there. I got so sick of it that at a rest stop, I took the tape out, pulled out all the ribbon and ripped it, then spit on it and threw it under the seat.
Yes, i was a real shit-heel when I was a little kid.
Ha! I always think it should include, “imagine people aren’t really people, but something totally different. Maybe like robots.”
Imagine if wishes were horses
It’s easy if you try
Everyone gets a pony
And all the beggars would ride
Imagine all the people, in a huge ass line for bread.
LOL
Imagine no toilet paper
It’s easy if you try
No toothpaste either
Don’t even think of pie
Imagine: Ancap version

LOL!
Imagine there’s no tp
These skid marks are hard to take
They’ll kill my family if I complain
And probably eat my dog
Imagine all the people, living under a boot
I had hoped there were more than 903 ancaps.

comment gold:
“Imagine having no food and your countrymen getting killed off by the millions. PS, I like how you only used the propaganda drawings and not real photos, because you will never find a happy communist.”
First, Big Rock Candy Mountain has better tune and lyrics.
Second, I would love to see a Piano Totting BRCM Guy show up at the next Vigil After Senseless And Unexpected Event!
“The punk rolled up his big blue eyes and said to the jocker, “Sandy, I’ve hiked and hiked and wandered too, But I ain’t seen any candy. I’ve hiked and hiked till my feet are sore, I’ll be God damned if I hike any more, To be buggered sore like a hobo’s whore In the Big Rock Candy Mountains.”
Same ending though, Amirite?
I’m reminded of “Fisherman’s Green” except that fisherman actually work.
Today’s fun fact: the words eureka and heuristic both come from the Greek word for “to find”.
“eurisko” means “I find”
“eureka” means “I have found [it]”
In other news, I was officially declared the top Klingon student today. Hooray! Zoidberg is useful!
38 days til graduation.
Fun fact: the single item I deemed worth purchasing in East Germany during a visit in 1986 was a Greek textbook.
Congrats on your triumph over the lesser students! Carry the Glibertarian
bannermonocle high! Excelsior!Wait, I was told that in the Army you never want to be the guy who’s known for fucking up OR the guy who’s known for getting shit done…
Charles Murray’s bio from the SPLC as edited by Charles Murray:

A good place to start is by correcting a common confusion about the role of genes in individuals and in groups. As we discussed in Chapter 4, scholars accept that IQ is substantially heritable, somewhere between 40 and 80 percent, meaning that much of the observed variation in IQ is genetic. And yet this information tells us nothing for sure about the origin of the differences between races in measured intelligence. This point is so basic, and so commonly misunderstood, that it deserves emphasis: That a trait is genetically transmitted in individuals does not mean that group differences in that trait are also genetic in origin. Anyone who doubts this assertion may take two handfuls of genetically identical seed corn and plant one handful in Iowa, the other in the Mojave Desert, and let nature (i.e., the environment) take its course. The seeds will grow in Iowa, not in the Mojave, and the result will have nothing to do with genetic differences. The environment for American blacks has been closer to the Mojave and the environment for American whites has been closer to Iowa. The Bell Curve: 298.
…
In any case, you are not going to learn tomorrow that all the cognitive differences between races are 100 percent genetic in origin, because the scientific state of knowledge, unfinished as it is, already gives ample evidence that environment is part of the story. But the evidence eventually may become unequivocal that genes are also part of the story. We are worried that the elite wisdom on this issue, for years almost hysterically in denial about that possibility, will snap too far in the other direction. It is possible to face all the facts on ethnic and race differences in intelligence and not run screaming from the room: That is the essential message. The Bell Curve: 315.

Why, you’d have to be an idiot to read this and think Murray is a racist…
Oh. Right.
“McConnell: Next step is a straight repeal vote”
Thank you, Rand. Now let’s get it done.
If it plays out that way, I will personally suck Trump’s cock for being the world’s best 9D chess player even though he would have probably just tripped and fallen into that sweet spot.
I’ve already decided to just cut my best of the best healthcare policy back to just the basics, because the deductible and out of pocket is just so high now that I can’t actually afford to use it for reasons that are not life threatening. Millions of Americans in the same boat. If they just repeal at least we can maybe get back to reasonable deductibles. Mine went from $750 for my wife and I to $4000. At the same time, premiums increased by 30% and wait times to see a specialist tripled or more. And most good doctors went concierge.
Yup, mine is absoutely useless now. I pay 1100 a month for my family and the deductible went up massively. It’s a scam, but the self employed got screwed the hardest by far.
I’m glad this video has very few views.

It was amusing to see his unironic pairing of Imagine with communist propaganda.
No! BAD DERPY! NO!
He honestly argues that because the populations of China and the USSR went up, it is impossible for millions of people to have been killed.
Top notch derp.
Wow, and he has a bunch of real commie followers.
yeah, I’m lost in the comments right now.
Aren’t people just wonderful?

He withdrew the US from the Paris climate accord, which had few direct policy effects but was extremely important as a vehicle for moral signaling about climate change.

Well at least he admits it.

Liberals don’t have to outbid Trump on license to win back the voters they alienated with their cultural impositions. They just have to become somewhat less annoying. I think this is feasible.

It’s as feasible as rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
