Well the Wimbledon finals were sure underwhelming. Venus collapsed like wet cardboard and Cilic got hurt. That’s not to say the two victors didn’t deserve it, but it sure would have been nice to see better matches that what we got. Oh, and the bicycle race continues and that Froome guy is back in the lead last I checked. I assume there’s more drama to come, but I don’t really know. More knowledgeable people will explain it all in the comments, I’m sure.
And then we come to the Minnesota-Houston series. The Astros took two of three from the Twins and got the second half of the season off to a good start. They gotta work on that pitching staff, but if they hit like this, they’re gonna be tough to beat even if they put Rudi Stein on the mound. (Apologies if I already used that joke. It’s early.) Seattle is up next.
Also, there was some event on tv last night with a season premiere. Please discuss at your leisure, but remember there are some people out there that want to watch but haven’t yet. So at least give spoiler alerts. And with that little courtesy warning, we can transition to…the links!

Glitter breast art is the beautiful and bold trend you may want to try
This is not new. Not to brag or anything, but I remember this in the 1990s.
” this is what feminism is all about, equality.”
No it isnt.
TITTIES!
If men can show their nipples, women should be able to too — this is what feminism is all about, equality.
So when Playboy removed nudes in a moment of wokeness (aka retardness that causes revenue to plummet), they were actually anti-feminism. This is starting to get confusing but I like the direction this is going in at least.
::good edit faerie flutters by::
This is starting to get confusing
Oh, it’s actually quite simple. Women strutting about in the buff – a sign of women’s empowerment and liberation from the confines of the patriarchy. Men staring at women strutting about in the buff – rape and harassment only possible due to the patriarchy’s oppression of women.
Glitter breasts began showing up on social media shortly after Yves Saint Laurent designer Anthony Vaccarello sent a dress revealing a singular sparkly nipple down his Summer 2017 runway.
Where’s this dumbass been hanging out? Tits with glitter on them have been on social media way earlier than that.
Not to mention the strip clubs.
I remember a Canadian judge handling this properly, IMO.
His ruling was simple:
If you grab a man’s breast, it is assault.
If you grab a woman’s breast, it is assault and sexual assault.
Therefore, all breasts arent equal and we can require women to cover up. Or, we can treat them equally and remove the sexual assault component.
His decision chose the former.
Steer into the skid. Perfect.
By this standard, my last bowel movement was a symbol of resistance against elitism in print media.
Chelsea Handler were posted a photo that showed her nipple and Instagram removed in 3 times, citing inappropriateness for all audiences
It was inappropriate to post anything from Chelsea. Good job!
Ok, so the 2nd picture, if she walked around in public without a shirt, would anyone notice?
I’m totally cool with women showing their nipples in public. But if this were to become acceptable, I DO NOT want to hear any whining from bare-breasted women that men are staring at their chests (omg teh male gaze!!!!111). You’re showing off an erogenous zone. Either deal with the staring, or put on a shirt.
People often forget, do you know what the biggest erogenous zone is?
STEVE SMITH HAS LARGEST EROGENOUS ZONE ON PLANET

Give into the Dark Side, Swissy!
That doesn’t stink.

You hit that one on the nose
Thanks for brightening my day here at the ole factory.
“Because Amendment 64 legalized possession for personal use of one ounce or less of marijuana by persons 21 years of age or older in Colorado, it is no longer accurate to say, at least as a matter of state law, that an alert by a dog which can detect marijuana — but not specific amounts — can reveal only the presence of ‘contraband,’”
That’s pretty great! Now if only Oklahoma, Kansas, etc., would conclude, because somebody might have legally smoked pot in their car one state over, that smelling marijuana was not enough to arrest the people in the car.
That’s because it could be legal marijuana, the court ruled.
What’s the difference in smell between legal and illegal marijuana?
The dog can smell the stigma of illegality.
Don’t give the judges any ideas.
Dog can trigger based on handler’s sense of illegality and biases.
Your honor, I kicked him and he barked just like we were taught at the academy.
Can I point out that gjsentinel.com is a bad url for us dyslexics who haven’t had our coffee yet?
I thought it was genitel.com and was expecting some saucy HM type content. (especially because there was a hint of nut stroking)
Now if only they would rule that a dog not smelling anything in your vehicle and the cops telling the dog to search anyway is not enough for probable cause, then I would be happy.
Fuck the use of leased warrants. I’m particularly pissed about cops using dogs at the present time.
So I suppose now they will be training dogs in CO to sniff everything except MJ.
42) Notes from my recent trip to western Massachusetts for daughter’s Scottish dance competition, followed by a night in Queens to attend Mets game:
42.1) I can’t find the original article I spotted in the local Massachusetts newspaper this past weekend, but I did find this similar one from a couple weeks ago: JFK students hold sit-in to bring awareness to sexual harassment in school
For some reason, mainly because I’m a bad person, I laughed a lot at this line: “she experienced sexual harassment in class this year from a group of boys who played a game in which one would intermittently say “boom” and the rest would look at her backside.”
Is there any surprise a school named after a member of the Kennedy family would have a lot of sexual harassment, though?
42.2) When you stay in a hotel in NYC based solely on price and being walking distance from Citifield, you end up staying in the Queens Chinatown.
I was a little disappointed in Massachusetts that hardly anybody seemed to have a New England accent. Lack of local accents was NOT a problem at Citifield!
Mets fans appear to hate the Yankees more than anybody I’ve ever seen (Yankees suck! Yankees suck!), yet the whole game everybody around me was checking the Yankees score every five minutes. (Oh my God! They’ve gone into the 15th inning and it’s still tied 1-1!). Seems like a psychologically unhealthy thing they have going there.
Stadiums I’ve been to where fans seem knowledgeable and dedicated, and possibly can’t stop talking about that game back in ’71 where Brooks Robinson saved the game with a diving catch: Camden Yards, Yankee Stadium, Citifield
Stadiums I’ve been to where fans seemed to have no idea about what was happening on the field, and mainly appeared to be there for the food, or to hit on chicks, or because they got free tickets from their buddy and had nothing else to do: Safeco Field
Stadiums in between: Nationals Park
Stadiums where there weren’t fans in attendance to tell either way: Great American Ballpark
42.3) I’ve driven through Manhattan before, which is impressive in its own way, but really doesn’t take too long. But man, driving on I-278 through Brooklyn, that was more than 20 minutes, and the city just keeps going and going.

Yes, you will.
Erm, I’ve seen my neighbors. No, I won’t.
A large family, with 3 really attractive daughters lived behind my friend’s house. Little known to us (at least for a while) the girls threw topless parties at their pool, with all of the popular girls around my age. Blessed be those neighbors, and yes, I was covetous of those neighbors.
I’m picturing your avatar with a pair of binoculars at the rear 2nd story window.
Could I covet those two gals in that pic on the front page that are riding my neighbor’s ass?
If only there were a link to the original pic or a way to save that pic you could covet them all of the time. Alas, we’re given neither.

The brutal Mass accents are in the working-class towns around Boston and Worcester – not out there in fancy places like Amherst.
As a self loathing Mets fan, what you describe happens every time the Yankees are good and the Mets are not; Mets fans take an inordinate amount of joy in any misfortune that befalls the Yankees. When the Mets are good, which is rare, I believe most Mets fans are content with focusing on the Mets and trying to enjoy the good times as much as possible before the other shoe inevitably drops. I would never check my phone during a game or participate in a Yankees suck chant…but I’d be lying if I said watching the 2004 ALCS unfold wasn’t the best sports moment of my life, up to that point. It would be one thing if the Mets were the only show in town; the mistakes would still be glaring, inexcusable, and embarrassing. It’s quite another to have arguably the most decorated franchise in sports in the same market and be forced to listen to scores of gavone fans proclaim their superiority over you because the baseball team they root for has spent more money and taken more steroids than anyone else. Of course it’s stupid, but it can make the blood boil.
I’m a fan of a perpetually mediocre to bad team. I get most my sports joy out of watching alabama lose a football game.
I don’t get a lot of joy.
*sad face*
Follow the Arkansas track team.
True true.
I balance being a Yankees fan with being a fan of the Knicks and UVA football. I get my share of sports misery, believe me.
I was at a happy hour last week and someone brought up who should hold the title for worst franchise in sports. Most people said the Browns but I was quick to offer up the Knicks. They had a somewhat recent stretch of greatness…but could never get over the hump, which of course invites the age old question of would you rather have no hope at all or some hope and have it dashed eventually. They have been largely bad on the court since that stretch took place and still haven’t won a championship in decades. Then there’s the question of how it gets better from here. The Knicks have unbelievably hired consensus Hall of Fame, all time basketball guys (Wilkens, Brown, Thomas, Jackson) only to disgrace them, dismiss them, and somehow make the team worse off than they were when those guys were first hired. They’re a worse organization than the Mets and Jets combined, that’s really all you need to know.
^^
Re: Going to ballpark to ignore the game. The absolute worst ballpark I have been to was San Francisco. It has a great location but the people attending weren’t fans and were there just for social preening. I will never attend a game there again. We had constantly move so some jackass would go in or out of the row during an inning, people would stand in sight lines to fiddle with the phones and just park there. Even though I hate the Yankees by the 4th inning I was wishing I was there just to listen to the crowds abuse the Giants assclown of “fans”.
The A’s had a great fan base and I enjoyed the games there.
Do you think the Grauniad appreciates the irony of an article about a guy that was going to having feeding tube yanked by Top. Men. but then he is showing signs of recovery?
I caught this:
And I’m gonna have to call bullshit. Get an officer of the insurance company on to make that statement or I’m simply not going to believe it.
This is anecdotal, but my ex’s mother passed away recently (very recently, like yesterday), and before she did her insurance kicked her out of hospice care because (and this is a direct quote from my ex) ‘she wasn’t dying fast enough’.
Condolences.
Isn’t that because they only pay for a certain amount of hospice care?
My mom wasn’t in the nursing home two months before she died, and everybody fought not to pay and make somebody else pay.
Obviously I wasn’t party to the direct conversation but my understanding from her is that she was not declining rapidly enough therefore she wasn’t eligible for hospice.
My condolences. I just spent the weekend in Nogales due to an aunt passing. The hospice did something similar with her but said she was “well” enough for in home respite, so they sent her home.

Here’s Why Women Really Say ‘Men Are Trash’
and it continues with quotes from Twitter. Serious journalism yo.
That “for starters” I’ve not heard from anyone since high school – from the known gang members in the class. This was a distinct minority of the male population.
Yeah, I’d say the problem is she hangs around with trashy guys, and then extrapolates that to every guy on earth, rather then her own narrow social circle.
19.Y’all don’t understand having respect for women until we say “What if that was your mother, sister, grandma etc.”
Then we say, “4 way? Sweet.”
Y’all don’t understand having respect for women until we say “What if that was your mother, sister, grandma etc.”
I don’t really get that. What makes you think you’re entitled to my respect? Decency? Civility? Sure. That’s just a baseline of being a person of goodwill. But, respect is something that I’ve always understood had to be earned. And, if I’m meeting you for the first time, you’ve done nothing, as yet, to earn my respect.
All of a sudden I’m thankful for how relatively well-adjusted, level-headed, and not miserable I am.
Then what the hell are you doing here?

No woman anywhere ever dated an asshole, knowing full well he was an asshole, because she thought she could reform him with the power of her vagina.
In my 38 years it has been my experience that the one thing women find most attractive is a man who isn’t paying them attention.
“Though she exempts “the good guys” from her thread (for those “not all men” responders),”
Then I guess you shouldn’t use such a general term like “men at trash”. Forgive me for failing to see the nuance.
Unsaid, but obvious to the casual observer…
“Men [who would have any interest in me] are trash”
Didn’t we see an article a few days back on the zillions of unhappy women who cant ‘find’ men? I think the men are there but they run like hell when they see these types coming. I know I would.

Elon has been beating this drum for awhile but delivered an impassioned speech yesterday to a bunch of governors about AI being “the biggest risk that we face as a civilization.”
I thought the biggest risk was global warming but now it’s Skynet. Of course Musk and his companies request to be at the forefront of the government regulation that he is demanding be developed to protect our children.

I think he’s worried that AI will take one look at hyperloop and go ‘you’re fucking kidding, right?’
I was kind of hoping for a thread the needle narrative where it turns out that instead of a nuclear holocaust, Skynet’s master plan for eradication of the human race is global warming.
More likely it would be Skynet being fed all the laws of the land and then using drones to enforce each and every one of them.
We’d all be locked up in a week.

Minneapolis police are executing upper-class white women now. Maybe this will help people around here understand that this problem is greater than racist cops.
http://www.startribune.com/woman-killed-in-officer-involved-shooting-in-south-minneapolis/434782213/
I’ve never thought the police violence problem was driven primarily by racism. The recruiting, training, discipline, and leadership in many forces is just atrocious – so this is what you get – roving thugs above the law.
You would have thought the whole Freddy Gray thing would have percolated that idea.
3 white cops, 3 black cops.
Chief is black.
Mayor is black.
Majority of the city council is black.
Somehow the last ten white Republicans in Baltimore are to blame for the death of Freddie Gray.
It would be severely inconvenient to the narrative that the media wishes to push if the actual facts of these inner city police departments and political organizations were brought to light. It might make Democrats look bad!
By “around here” I meant Minneapolis, not this site. Apparently I’m not at 100% this morning.
This lady was shot about two miles from my house, so I’m curious to see whether people around here start understanding who these guys really are, because a lot of the same people in South Minneapolis who put up “Black Lives Matter” signs in their yard have no problems calling he cops when hey see a “suspicious vehicle” etc. They always justify it as “better safe than sorry” but maybe now will realize that they are literally siccing armed psychopaths and likely innocent individuals on a regular basis.
See, now they fucked up. They can shoot a black man and a dog without issue. But shooting a white woman? Hoo boy. They in trouble.
Of course the body cameras were off. Of course they were.
That right there should be an instantaneous firing offence.
I’m my hometown a cop tasered a 10 year old girl at her house after her (stupid) mom called the cops on her for acting unruly. He actually was fired, but only because he didn’t activate his camera during the use of his taser.
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cop-fired-after-firing-taser-at-10-year-old-girl-who-refused-to-shower/
Fun fact:
I went to high school with this asshole. The news didn’t report it, but the only reason he was at the mothers house is because he was fucking her. That’s why she felt safe in calling him to help with the discipline of her child. He probably tasered the little girl so she would go to bed and he could get a little on duty nookie.
Yeah, the body cameras thing is the most telling part of this. At the risk of invoking ‘there aughta be a law!’ ire, if there’s no legal requirement to run their cameras then they aren’t going to run them. The fact that they shot someone without their cameras running should be automatic termination.
In this case, it might be legit to have them off. They didn’t even get out of the car before they popped her.
The way I read the story, it sounds like she was leaning in the cop car to talk to them and the passenger decided that he needed to have his gun out when dealing with the crazies of South Mpls and it went off and shot her through the door from the inside.
They know they really fucked up. That is why they were giving her CPR. (Or she is cute and they wanted to cop a feel before she got cold)
If your gun is out your camera is on. That’s not a difficult rule nor is it an unreasonable one.
That seems like a very complicated decision tree for the average cop.
So take the decision away. I’m sure one of the engineers at Blackhawk! can put it a sensor to flip on the GoPro around the cop’s neck.
Is there a body camera out there that automatically turns on if a weapon is unholstered? It seems like a no-brainer feature and the technology clearly exists.
Well, you’d need a bunch of sensors to identify the location of the gun.
A far better and probably less invasive mechanism would be detecting when the gun is being gripped.
You could put the same type of sensor on their nightsticks and flashlights too.
Seems like a lot of fucking around. How about if the fuckheads have the same personal liability that we do with regard to the use of force?
Or is that crazy talk?
Probably crazy talk. We’re talking cops here, right?
sensor in the holster?
Shit, you could do it with something like a reed switch in the holster.
None of my guns have ever “gone off” without the trigger being pulled.
Agreed Drake…
“Basically, my mom’s dead because a police officer shot her for reasons I don’t know,” Zach Damond said, referring to Justine. “I demand answers. If anybody can help, just call police and demand answers. I’m so done with all this violence.
Call the police and get shot? No thanks.
I hate hate hate the term “officer-involved shooting”.
Police killing? has a ring to it.
Would have?
NEVER CALL THE COPS!
Does anyone else get the feeling this may be a Pulp Fiction-style “I shot Marvin” scenario? Like, the cop broke all gun safety 101 rules?
Jeeze. I hadn’t.
I know cops are fragile and easily triggered little snowflakes, but reading the vague description of the murder, it seems like the woman was already engaged with the cops. I see nothing in the story about the cops saying she was approaching them aggressively or threatening in any way. They say she was already talking to them through the driver’s side. Why would the passenger cop then suddenly decide to shoot? Especially if the driver didn’t draw his/her weapon and was just having a normal interaction. Not to mention, why would the passenger shoot across the lap of the driver, endangering a fellow cop?
Can you imagine the poor training and discipline to un-holster while still in the car, then place your finger inside the trigger guard, then aim the weapon in the general direction of another human being? The driver cop could have easily been the one who got shot.
It just seems incredibly dumb. If it was an accident, they shouldn’t be anywhere near a gun.
If that report about multiple shots is true, he must have been very angry about something to shoot through the other car window.
His partner should be furious as well, depending.
His partner will probably beat his ass, but he’s waiting for his hearing to return so he can enjoy the squeals.
This is probably why they haven’t gone full retard in defending the murder – not because an innocent citizen was killed, but because the shooting endangered another cop.
Rich Statists lobbying for higher taxes – don’t want to pay more to the government.

Where on the head was the entry wound? And how many gunshots?
At least they’re moving on to hotel rooms. Better forensically than dumping them in a park with the gun 50′ away.
Not saying I believe in conspiracy theories, but boy, those who have contact with the Clintons sure have an unusually high suicide rate.
That would debunk the theory, wouldn’t it?
My thoughts as well. It’s… getting more difficult to believe these are all suicides/random crimes, I’ll say that.
Yeh but this is getting troubling to say the least.
I don’t know, If I had to spent a lot of time around shilldog, I might put one through my brain.
Especially when they fail out of favor with the Clintons
From the sound of it, he may have had is own issues with corruption and was dead broke… No pun intended.

Look, Ima gonna let you Finnish….
Drinking too much. Tried to figure out why the previous record was only 3 and why it took them 3 attempts to break it.
Got one of those dating apps this weekend and lemme tell ya – I am getting all the fat ladies interested.
John hardest hit.
I dated a bigger girl last year. Normally I’m attracted to fit, athletic chicks, but I was in a slump and she aggressively, well, jumped on me pretty much.
There was really no drawback. She could cook, was enthusiastic in bed, didn’t have tons of guys hitting on her, and physically, didn’t have any of the hard corners the runner I dated after her had.
For me it’s the skin. You can enjoy any present if the wrapping is nice.
+1 Buffalo Bill
“Was she a great big fat person?”
“It puts the lotion on the skin or doesn’t get the hose again.”
I don’t mind a bit of thiccness or even thickness, but I don’t like obese… its simply a turn off. Especially since I work out 4/5 times a week. I’d like whoever I date to at least care a little bit about their weight…
Oh, and I also got hit up by a few trans people.
go on….
I have a buddy who is on those sites. He’s never been married. Has his own business and has no conscious.
He goes through those sites like a hot knife through butter. He got a ton of ass from women who see him as the perfect second husband.
It also helps that he isn’t all that picky about them needing to be very good looking.
Sorta-friend of mine uses the “shotgun” approach. He’ll go up to just about any woman at the bar, strike up a conversation, and will just walk away if it doesn’t work. And 5 minutes later he’s talking to someone else.
He’s had tons of tail in his life – from not-so-pretty to smoking – just by being brave enough to ask.
I know someone who would straight up say to women, ‘wanna fuck?’ He claimed a 1 in 20 ration of success.
How do ration pussy?
Very carefully – you want the soldiers at the front to be happy.
a guy I was friends with in high school and college nailed a surprising number of women who should have been out of his league that way. He simply had no shame or fear. He’d hit on every single woman he came across who was at least decent looking, in a very up-front and almost tactless manner, and if he talked to 50 girls in a weekend he’d usually find one who would take him up on it. I envied him but I couldn’t do that – I do have an innate sense of shame.
Yeah in the past that was always my problem – I tend to obsess over just woman at a time. If things don’t work out with that one, then I would go into a funk for a few weeks before I even wanted to try again.
Sounds like a winning technique.
Not recommended but again I’m no Romeo.
I have no idea what women are thinking. Why would I obsess over something I don’t understand?
her insurance kicked her out of hospice care because (and this is a direct quote from my ex) ‘she wasn’t dying fast enough’.
When people started talking about death squads, I thought they wear referring to teams of people in long black robes, roaming the halls of nursing homes clubbing the elderly to death in their beds like baby seals.
For the children.
Thanks for those who provided helpful advice regarding my job interview last week, especially R C Dean who had some very good tips and mexican sharpshooter, whose suggestion that I ask what they’d tell me if they wanted to scare me off the company caught my interviewers off guard. It went well and I’m supposed to get the offer today. Only downside is I will be doing more work and spending less time reading Glib comments very soon.
Congrats?
Good on ya. You can just end up with better booze and working the Zardoz or STEVE SMITH night links on weekends!
You avoided saying nigger, eh? Good for you.
They almost tripped me up on a trick question, Rufus, but I pivoted to “nitpicker” when I remembered your advice at the last minute. So thank you.
so, no thoughtful pauses? I always figured that was a bad idea.
I don’t really think it’s a bad idea, but I guess it can be difficult to predict how others will interpret your silence, as you mentioned. A thoughtful pause has to be better than a long “ummmm” or “uhhhh” which is only done to fill that potentially uncomfortable silence.
“People that annoy you”
“Naggers” … the correct answer is “naggers.”
If Jenner runs as a Republican against Feinstein I will throw money at that campaign. I can’t wait to read the glorious amounts of dissonance and bathe in more tears. I am imagining the spluttering coming from the Feinstein camp now and it is wonderful.
oh my god that would be beautiful.
Can I tell my friends in California that they’re transphobic if they don’t vote for Jenner?
I highly encourage it.
I’m not a big fan of celebrity candidates unless they’re libertarians like Kid Rock, but I think the places that’s smart to run celeb candidates are in places that don’t normally vote red. Prog Paradise is definitely one of those places.
I disagree. Team Red can run them in places that are maybe 60/40 proggie. But in a place like CA that’s probably 80/20, it won’t do any good. The partisans that always pull the lever (without even looking to see who is running) for Team Blue will still overwhelm those who cross over in the name of intersectionality.
A candidate like Jenner would do better in a place like NY or NoVa than CA for this reason alone.
I disagree; I think that Jenner has a shot here, but only if Feinstein runs again. Progs flat out hate her because she is sometimes an independent, non-TEAM thinker, and many progs might stay away from the race for that reason.
It’s all about Team calculations now though. For both Teams really, but moreso for Team Blue now because they don’t have the WH anymore. They would vote for Stalin himself if he ran for office in CA just to ensure someone with an (R) after their name didn’t get that seat. I don’t think there’s critical mass to say that in NY yet.
Never underestimate that.
Outside of the SF/LA hotspots, there’s probably way more conservative, right-leaning voters than last year might show on paper. I’ve been saying this for months, but I think that if CA didn’t run 2 Democrats in last year’s Senate race, GOP turnout would’ve been high enough for both Trump to win the popular vote and get a few districts to flip red.
Doesn’t matter: we’ll still be able to insult progressives for being transphobic hatemongers.
He’ll get the Milo treatment. “He doesn’t deserve his vagina!”
Does he have one?
I thought he was keeping the equipment under the hood OEM and just got body work done?
I know that a ton of progs on the internet HATE Feinstein (for different reasons than us, but that’s irrelevant). I therefore wouldn’t be surprised if Caitlyn Jenner eats away some of the intersectional vote.
I really don’t care if it wins, I just want to hear the gnashing of teeth.
Me neither, I just think the prog tears would be even more vintage quality than the Trump tears of the left manage to lose a seat in THE California.
Ever notice how the left are equally as apocalyptic with climate change as religious fanatics who believe in the apocalypse?
You can’t have too many Doomsday Cults. And, one of these days, they’ll be right.
Everyone on the Left is a religious fanatic – they worship the great god State.
Well said sir..
Thank God they can only be right once. The gloating would be unbearable.
Not sure how this local cop is going to spin this incident into a “I feared for my life” situation.
Cute Aussie immigrant called 911, went out to meet cops and somehow was shot through the door of the cop car.
Posted above (and it wasn’t even me!)
Unfortunately, police immunity for murder is truly colorblind. So you’ll have more outrage, but nothing will come of it.
How long before we get the ol’ “You white people can’t possibly bitch about this seein’ as how we are being preyed upon daily!”?
Worse than colorblind. Usually the media completely ignores outrageous cases of cops executing whities for no particular reason.
Cute white women get media attention for this sort of thing.
It doesn’t mean anything in the end, but there will be media attention. It was in the Guardian this morning (which is where I originally saw the story). It’s front page news in Australia. It’s near the top of the front page of CNN and FOX (MSNBC is nothing but RUSSIA!!!! on its front page)
It is OK because Thom is one of us Minnesodans. Not some outstate interloper like you JB.
Where is Nancy Grace when we need her?
Hades, though Satan’s getting sick of her.
Allow Twitter user Zion Destiny to break it down for you.
Yeaaaaaahhhh… no.
This might explain why 4 years of college costs more than a Ferrari and is often worthless. Colleges Pay Diversity Officers More Than Professors, Staff
I’m conflicted on that. I want both of them to get paid less than the other.
I don’t know where you’re buying ferraris, but none of my college bills got over 50k. Not nothing but barely a decent C class by my count.
$70k x 4 = a California Convertible and change or a 488 GTB Coupe
I got a complete masters degree for $50k. Not a semester, the whole thing. Who the fuck is paying 70 grand a year? I need to meet these people and take some of their money.
1. Make a lot of money and save some of it.
2. Have a kid
3. Have kid apply to decent private college
4. Look in mirror
I would say step 3 is where you lost me but it’s probably more like step 1.
Same here. When I finished my MPA it only cost me $30k. I will admit the military paid a significant portion of that and left me with about $12k to pay for out of pocket. I finished paying it off this year.
My sister on the other hand…
“Top public universities pay administrators with jobs related to diversity initiatives an average of $175,088 per year,”
Holy shit.
Guess that gender studies degree isn’t worthless after all.
Well, still worthless to society.

Bizarre urinal cake heist under investigation in Germany
How we gonna move this stuff, Hans?
Don’t worry, I know a guy in Dusseldorf.
We’ll sell them to Syrian immigrants as breath mints!
I was born in Dusseldorf and that is why my name is Rolf!
Don’t be stupid, be a smarty, come and join the Nazi party!
If all the comments under this are a bunch of bad puns, I’m gonna be pissed
Cuz You’re a peein’?
What I want to know is, who took this leak to the press?
Urinal cakes, huh? No shit.
I’m thinking they saw a cargo truck, stole the cargo, then checked to see what they got.
Among the category of things difficult to fence, this is one where you’re going to be taking a serious markdown from market rate because of the limited number of potential customers and relative price of the above-board alternative.
Maris Crane hardest hit.
“Sherry, Niles?”
Anybody checked on what Lex Luthor is up to lately? Because this sounds like one of his schemes. And that’s terrible.
100 Years Ago Today: The British Royal House issued a proclamation that henceforth it would be “styled and named as Windsor.” Apparently “Saxe-Coburg and Gotha” was too hard to spell or remember or something.
“Saxe-Coburg and Gotha”
Perfect name for a polka metal band.
Or they no longer wanted a Germanic family name during a brutal war with the Germans.
… or something.
The final straw was apparently when the Germans sent an aircraft named “Gotha” to bomb London, and the name was all over the press.
Re: TdF
Nah, not really. There’s one more time trial, but Froome is an expert TTist. I’d say it’s pretty much over at this point barring injury or equipment failure or doping.
I stopped watching after Lance. He may have been an asshole but he was OUR asshole.
He was a little more than an asshole. A deceitful, vindictive one who went out of his way to ruin lives. A sociopath really.
This. He was a hero of mine. That he destroyed people’s lives and reputations in pursuit of a lie makes it much worse. Fuck that guy, straight to hell.
He dragged his bike mechanic through the mud IIRC and won. Did he ever pay that dude back?
And he’s got some kind of weird vendetta against Frankie Andreu. He won’t leave that guy alone.
God, what a total asshole.
It shouldn’t be (as we’ve already pointed out) with six stages to go and the next two riders 18 and 23 seconds behind. That’s a lotta riding to be ‘over’. What is this? The NBA?
I don’t think anyone has the chops to make up that time in the Time Trial, and there are no more mountain stages.
Yeh. He’s strong in the TT as you pointed out.
So 50/50.
“If Jenner does run, she would be vying for the seat currently held by California Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Feinstein, 84, has not announced whether she will run for re-election in 2018.”
The only good part of that story is that maybe Feinstein will quit. I will never forget this bit from Senator feinstein-

Every time that woman opens her mouth my blood pressure spikes.
Groooooooooosssss.
Send a pic, Vhyrus, and I’ll make the GIF.
Everytime I read a Camille Paglia interview, I start out thinking I’m hearing a feminist that does not sound completely insane and then she’ll bring up how Diane Feinstein is the smartest woman in America and should be president and it’s straight to facepalm time.
If she just had 51 votes, she could have plunged america into a civil war. What an evil bitch
Again, normally I would be beyond happy if Feinstein went away, but this is CA that we’re talking about. What kind of moonbat do you think that the Left will try to run here?
That’s exactly what I was thinking. They’ll manage the impossible and find someone worse.
I’m thinking Mr. Impeach, aka. Brad Sherman, will be licking his lips if Feinstein actually retires. He might not be intersectional enough to run against Jenner, though, considering that he’s bald, straight, and white.
Jenner is no where near insane enough to get elected in CA. A frontal lobotomy could do it.
Jesus. 84?! Why do these fuckers live so long? Only the good die young I guess.
Not perfect. Dismiss.
Vocational education, done right, helps workers find jobs when they are young. But as they age — and job requirements change — workers are often not well prepared for the changes, according to the study, published in The Journal of Human Resources. Rather than retraining workers, many companies decide to let them go and hire other workers.
Most strikingly, the research found that people who received a broad, general education earned more over their lifetimes than otherwise similar people (that is, with similar test scores and years of schooling) who had attended vocational programs. Notably, the vocational graduates in most countries were more likely to be unemployed while older.
“The largest problem of skills in the U.S. today isn’t a shortage of young workers with specific competencies,” Eric Hanushek, one of the researchers and a Stanford professor, wrote in a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed. “Instead it is a need for more general cognitive skills that give workers the ability to adapt to new circumstances and new jobs.”
One size fits all apparently doesn’t work. So, we shouldn’t waste our time on those vo-tech students, because they might not keep the same job until retirement.
Also, I like how he walks right up to the edge of the abyss of systemic educational failure, and doesn’t bother to look look down. Bad news, Shirley, our government schools are failing everybody.
“Rather than retraining workers, many companies decide to let them go and hire other workers.”
Huh? This story seems to paint a different picture than that.
Of course that story uses facts and figures from the Society for Human Resources Managment. Well known SPLITTERS!
The biggest problem I have found so far is that nobody, and I mean NO fucking BODY wants to do any training on their own dime. I have literally gotten zero formal training at any of my engineering jobs. Then comes the inevitable ‘you did all of this wrong’ convo, to which I have to say ‘well this is how I was taught to do it in school. If you do things differently here (which everyone does) maybe you should TELL PEOPLE FIRST!’
I make my loving doing technical work at a manufacturing facility. Most of my coworkers are 20 years older than me. I went to a vocational school and my company is desperate to hire people like me that aren’t there.
It’s anecdotal, I know. But, an experienced industrial electrician can make 80 grand plus right now in rural arkansas. all the would have do is put out a resume.
Edit fairy, don’t you dare touch that.
Dude, TMI
Well, you gotta make a living to get some loving, right?
have do is put out a resume.
That doesn’t sound like all you’re putting out.
Work it Lachowsky! *throws dollah bills on stage*
You fuckers turned a very valid criticism of a batsshit insane article into a euphemism all because of a mistyped letter.
I salute you.
In all seriousness. The world needs people who understand automation and can maintain it. Tell your kids.
Something to do with sexbots?
Sexbot techs would dream of someday getting a job at Rotorooter. All those lucky bastards have to do is unplug clogs and clean up shit.
You know what else, that job can’t be sent offshore and will be one of the last automated away to nothingness
I have yet to meet a robot that can troubleshoot and repair.
Actually IBM’s Watson is doing a pretty good job in that area.
Not quite up to human levels of ability and way to expensive for this level of use at the moment but I wouldn’t rule it out.
A quick Google search says median income in Arkansas is ~$40K, so $80K probably puts that electrician in the top 20% of the state. Not bad for vocational education (probably beats quite a good portion of the college grads).
I’ve heard the same story twenty years ago. X amount of employees are close to retirement eligible within Y years, there’s a gap of Z employees.
Figure the average career at a single company was about 30 years with a pension, but is probably less now with more job movement and ending up with the final employer later in life so maybe more like 20 years now– headline: half of employees could retire within next ten years. No, that would be normal turnover.
ROTFL
Or you know the idiots who wrote the story could have realized that there was something of a difference between say a kid who studies Machine Shop, or Auto Repair and one who studied “advanced babysitting” (aka how to work in a child care center), cosmetology, or baking.
I’m pretty sure those kids in the 70’s who went to machine shop or auto repair did quite well for themselves on average.
Oh yeah and the idea that ANY school can successfully teach “general cognitive skills” to teenagers is a fucking joke. You might just barely be able to teach it to a 25 year old who has a few years work experience under his belt and realizes how much of a dumbass he was as a teen but for teens, they either acquire “general cognitive skills” on their own or they don’t acquire them at all.
To be fair, just what would kids learn today in “Auto Repair”?
“This is an OBD Scanner. It’s going to tell you what is wrong. Here is a computer. It has a schematic of which part you will replace, and here are a set of wrenches. No matter what you need to replace, you’ll have to undo bolts A thru’ M and remove the front of the car.”
Your point is well taken, but it’s not quite that simple. Techs still need some troubleshooting abilities, since the scanners aren’t THAT good yet. Also, I worked on cars 25 years ago and I couldn’t begin to do so today. Much more technical. Granted rebuilding anything is out of the question today, so it’s just different.
Well, my point was really that an auto-tech now looks nothing like an auto tech used to. It’s the same with many things. Modular assembly takes a lot of the complicated diagnosis out of fixing fridges, cars, lawnmowers, TVs, computers, etc, and the momentum behind technological change means that a technician trained on today’s diagnostics will see what he learns in a material sense become valueless before he pays off his student loan.
I’ve (largely) stopped recruiting based on what products and programming techniques the applicant knows. I have to look for evidence of general learning aptitude, and I think that within 10-15 years, more now than ever, the determinant of a good technician will be their ability to solve abstract problems, even outside of the arena of programming or systems design.
What I really can’t grasp about the whole Russia thing, is why they would want Trump to be president at all. It seems like Hillary is better for them in every way. Really Bernie should be their ideal pick.
Russia is basically a petro-state now. There top priority should be getting oil prices up. Wouldn’t they want a Democrat in the white house that could put some restrictions on fracturing? I suppose it could be known at Putin’s level that Hillary doesn’t actually care about Dem Environmental causes and was just paying lip service to them.
Plus the Ruskies would have all the data from Hillary’s private server to blackmail her with.
The only thing they wouldn’t like about her is her crazy ideas in the Middle East. I think she would have been willing for big U.S. interventions in Syria and other places.
I thought about that too, but that is actually good for Russia also on the oil price side. A US war with Iran or something would be great for Russia.
Of course Putin wanted 4 more years of Obama.
Can’t find the link handy, but I read an article yesterday about Russian propaganda efforts funding anti-fracking groups in the US. The search engine of your choice will pop up a bunch of different links, it’s starting to blow up a little bit. But it’s basically like you say; the Russian economy leans heavily on natural gas sales, so it’s in their best interest to keep the US out of the market.
Now now now let’s not let logic get in the way of our shrieking, okay?
Crazy wind-up monkey beats the fuck out of his little tin drum
After all, before Obamacare, most states had more or less unregulated insurance markets, similar to those the Senate bill would create. Many of these states also had skimpy, underfunded Medicaid programs, which would be the effect of the bill’s brutal Medicaid cuts.
So while careful, nonpartisan modeling, the kind the C.B.O. excels in, is important, you don’t need a detailed analysis to know what American health care would look like if this bill passes. Basically, it would look like pre-A.C.A. Texas, where 26 percent of the nonelderly population was uninsured.
And lack of insurance wouldn’t be the only problem: Many people would have “junk insurance” — insurance with deductibles so large or coverage limitations so extensive as to be effectively useless when needed.
Now, some people might be satisfied with that outcome. Hard-core libertarians, for example, don’t believe making health care available to those who need it is a legitimate role of government; letting some citizens go bankrupt and/or die if they get sick is the price of freedom as they define it.
How the fuck does this idiot not just burst into flames when he tells these whoppers?
price of freedom as they define it
Because
robbingtaxingforcing others to pay for someone’s medical care is freedom?Um… holy shit, he actually said that with a straight face?
Also, that last paragraph. Yep, we want people to die. It’s the libertarian way. Besides, in our libertarian paradise you wouldn’t have any roads to travel to get to the hospital anyways.
What good would roads be anyway? They wouldn’t make it out of the orphan mine before dying.
You’re talking about a man whose columns contradict the economics textbook that he himself wrote. Were you expecting any logical consistency from this man?
Many people would have “junk insurance” — insurance with deductibles so large or coverage limitations so extensive as to be effectively useless when needed.
EL OH EL. This jackass can’t be serious.
Just out of curiousity, what would have been the point of keeping a junk plan that costs a fortune and pays for nothing, before the federal mandate went into effect?
My $15000/year ObamaCare policy has a $13000 deductible. Its provider list and formulary is the same as Medicaid’s.
But my 60-year-old wife and I can get free birth control pills under the plan. I guess that’s all it takes for Krugman to think a plan is affordable.
“before Obamacare, most states had more or less unregulated insurance markets”
BULLSHIT! I don’t know of a lie you could tell that’s bigger than that one. Fishing stories are more truthful.
The only people who could possibly believe that are people who turned 18 since Obamacare came into existence.
Correction, turned 26.
NOW. But if you were 22 pre-Obama care, you might have already been buying your own.
Might is the operative word…if you were young pre-Obamacare, you probably weren’t buying, as you weren’t forced to and it was a cost you probably could safely ignore.
Many people would have “junk insurance” — insurance with deductibles so large or coverage limitations so extensive as to be effectively useless when needed.
Funny that, since Obamacare passed, both my premium and my deductible have risen dramatically.
And the commentariat do not disappoint.
Manuel Soto Columbus, Ohio 10 minutes ago
The curtain has fallen away from the from our White House Wizard of the “Odd” and the GOP space monkeys. It’s uncertain how much longer they can distract, obfuscate, and deceive the Public into supporting their bankrupt ideas and policies as evidenced by polls regarding the healthcare debacle and the Administration.
I used to consider myself a Libertarian Republican in the Seventies, after reading Ayn Rand’s screeds, but I gradually came to realize I had enjoyed education, parks, roads, healthcare, and even my military food, healthcare, etc., courtesy of myself and other American Taxpayers. Eventually, we must acknowledge we are all in this life together as citizens of a United States, or we will fail as human beings to care about our friends, families and our selves.
I hate to disillusion the Ayn Rand Acolytes, but Donald Trump is not Howard Roark, and Paul Ryan is not John Galt. Altruism is not “evil”, and irrational greed and selfishness are not admirable qualities despite the best efforts of ideologues to convince us otherwise.
Perhaps Americans are finally waking up to the bottomless well of lies emanating from media haters who exploit the media, as well as public opinion. We will see in 2018.
So wit. Such insightful.
Altruism is a great thing. Altruism is not defined as handing your money over to the government at the point of a gun.
Hey, if government operatives can’t call taxation “altruism”, how else are they supposed to satiate their own irrational greed and selfishness?
You know who else wanted the state to provide education, parks, roads, healthcare, and even my military food, healthcare, etc., courtesy of himself and other
Americantaxpayers.Teddy Roosevelt?
Ah, so the only way to care about friends, family, and self is through government? Can’t do any caring without the State.
Does the old “I used to be a Republican/conservative/libertarian shtick convince anyone outside that particular echo chamber?
Manuel Soto needs to be serenaded by Lee Ving
I will acknowledge his two accurate points, and then disassemble his most inaccurate point. First, yes, Trump is no Howard Roark, and Paul Ryan is definitely no John Galt. They resemble the central planners in the novel more than the heroes of the novel. To say that libertarians consider altruism evil is false. I say that false altruism, created by government force and used without free giving, is not altruism at all. True charity is given of free will to aid other people, not forced from people to redistribute the value they have created to other people.
Well in fairness Columbus does have some really nice parks

The one that always got me in hot water was when my Korean wife was berating our kids for not getting straight A’s they would always say “Look at Dad. He was a terrible student and now he’s making a lot of money.” They have heard the stories of truancy, disciplinary actions and bad grades and think that by pulling me into their shit storm things will get better.

Ho! Ha ha! Guard! Turn! Parry! Dodge! Spin! Ha! Thrust!
CS, no. A couple hours of rotten sleep is never better than staying up all night. Been through that rationalization toooo many times.

As good a place as any-
For the full context –
http://files.libertyfund.org/pll/quotes/306.html
But this theory of our government is wholly different from the practical fact. The fact is that the government, like a highwayman, says to a man: Your money, or your life. And many, if not most, taxes are paid under the compulsion of that threat.
The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the road side, and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets. But the robbery is none the less a robbery on that account; and it is far more dastardly and shameful.
The highwayman takes solely upon himself the responsibility, danger, and crime of his own act. He does not pretend that he has any rightful claim to your money, or that he intends to use it for your own benefit. He does not pretend to be anything but a robber. He has not acquired impudence enough to profess to be merely a “protector,” and that he takes men’s money against their will, merely to enable him to “protect” those infatuated travellers, who feel perfectly able to protect themselves, or do not appreciate his peculiar system of protection. He is too sensible a man to make such professions as these. Furthermore, having taken your money, he leaves you, as you wish him to do. He does not persist in following you on the road, against your will; assuming to be your rightful “sovereign,” on account of the “protection” he affords you. He does not keep “protecting” you, by commanding you to bow down and serve him; by requiring you to do this, and forbidding you to do that; by robbing you of more money as often as he finds it for his interest or pleasure to do so; and by branding you as a rebel, a traitor, and an enemy to your country, and shooting you down without mercy, if you dispute his authority, or resist his demands. He is too much of a gentleman to be guilty of such impostures, and insults, and villanies as these. In short, he does not, in addition to robbing you, attempt to make you either his dupe or his slave.
“The government does not, indeed, waylay a man in a lonely place, spring upon him from the road side, and, holding a pistol to his head, proceed to rifle his pockets.”
Except when it does precisely that.

TL,DR; SQUEEEEEE! Technology and economic shifts mean upheaval in some people’s lives!
“i know what’s best for people like my dad”
How many times is that canard going to be repeated?
TV really does offer an embarrassment of riches this week.
The week after next, we’ll have Game of Thrones, Inkmaster, Killjoys, Dark Matter, Rick and Morty, and Preacher on–all at the same time. Bring back Mr. Robot, Longmire, Westworld, Vikings, Legion, the Handmaid’s Tale, and The Expanse, and we really are talking about the golden age of television.
There has never been a time when there was more better TV.
“Rick and Morty”
What in the name of the Prophet took them so damn long?
I’m guessing they wanted to do it right and they wanted to do it themselves.
If it were the Simpsons or Family Guy, they’d have hired a bunch of former National Lampooners to write the scripts for them–and that would be fast.
I don’t care how long it takes as much as I care that it’s great.
And some of their stuff is truly fantastic. They could show that episode on existentialism to introductory philosophy students.
Mr. Meeseeks: “Meeseeks are not born into this world fumbling for meaning, Jerry!”
I’m hoping they don’t revisit the crap from the past.
One of the things that made the first Star Wars so epic was that no one had ever seen some of that stuff before. No one had ever seen a light sabre or dogfights in space. No one had ever seen Darth Vader before. No one had ever seen a Death Star.
Hire a team of scriptwriters, and you’ll get recycled light sabres and Death Stars in ever more iterations.
Meeseeks = light sabre.
I hope they took so much time ’cause they’re still working on the original Star Wars. I hope we haven’t seen the last of the new stuff.
Justin Roiland is a notorious weirdo who works at his own pace, and they don’t get their animation done by Korean/Japanese slaves so it takes longer.
Huh. I haven’t watched a single minute of any of those.
Can you ad Turn: Washington’s Spies to your list just so I don’t feel othered?
I have a reason for not seeing any of those. What, are you too good for TV?
No, my yard is too good for TV. (With a few exceptions…like Turn)
I miss yards. My condo is facing a wall.
Hey look on the bright side; you aren’t paying extra money for “a view.” Thrifty!
I just started watching it on netflix. In the middle of S1:E6 now.
Enjoying it a bunch.
Just got to Stephen Root’s first episode. Hey, its Jimmy James!
One of my wife’s clients is frequently an extra on Turn, as it’s mostly filmed near Richmond in Powhatan County.
The Handmaid’s Tale? Ken, are you feeling unwell?
I never got around to writing the full review of that show.
If you watch it? The joke is on the SJWs.
The show is practically about Islam.
When you look at all the differences between the book and the show, the horrors are about Islam more than anything. It’s like a dystopian work about Islam.
SPOILER ALERT:
For instance, in the book, one of the handmaids was killed, but in the show, she’s subjected to female genital mutilation instead.
The left eats it all up because they’re accustomed to thinking of the book as a feminist touchstone, but perhaps in an attempt to make this dystopia seem like a real possibility, they’ve basically made it about Islam taking over America.
But television has never been more *timely* and *vital*!
(actual plaudits for the show offered by people who presumably have trouble putting on socks without hyperventilating)
Where’s my fainting couch?!
Again, those lefty reviews are on autopilot.
Also, the novel is/was controversial among feminists because the worst villain seems to be women themselves.
SPOILER ALERT!
In fact, almost all the most horrible people in the plot are women. The woman in charge of the handmaidens, who tortures, trains, and disciplines them, the master’s wife, the diplomat from Mexico who knows the handmaidens are being raped, enslaved, etc.–and trades for them anyway. All the worst people in the plot seem to be women.
Normally, feminist literature is about women banding together in order to lift each other up.
This was about women tearing each other apart to keep some of them down.
I know the book has a feminist reputation, but it’s actually more like a critique of feminism. It’s like Orwell’s 1984 in more ways than one, but in its most basic way, Orwell was in an interesting position to critique communism–because he was a socialist. He treated communism with so much hatred in part because he saw it as treason against socialism. The Handmaid’s Tale is a bit like that, too. In some ways, it treats feminists as traitors to true feminism.
My animus is entirely toward reviewers. The show looks decent enough and I enjoyed the book (and others she’s written).
I should add: We’re really good at noticing when the SJWs are wrong about us.
We’re not as good at noticing that they’re often wrong about the people they praise, too.
We don’t believe them when they say bad things about us.
We shouldn’t believe everything they say because it’s good about other people either.
Because the SJWs praise the Handmaid’s Tale doesn’t mean it’s bad any more than the SJWs condemning something means it’s great.
The bad guys in the Handmaid’s Tale are always bragging about how they’ve cleaned up the environment, put up solar panels, etc. Its entirely possible to interpret the show as what might happen if the SJWs took over the world. That the SJWs who reviewed it seem to have missed it entirely doesn’t surprise me. They think it’s about the racist, religious right of the ’80s taking over, so it all seems great to them.
That racism is totally absent from the show’s dystopia (unlike the book) and the fact that the people who took over the country destroyed the churches seems to have escaped them completely.
American Gods is far more hostile to libertarianism and is far more progressive than The Handmaid’s Tale.
I’m bitter as hell about American Gods. I enjoyed the book, and while it’s been a while since I’ve read it I don’t recall being beaten severely about the head with the Progressive message like the show seems to do. It’s becoming distracting. If I didn’t otherwise like the show and the actors in it I’d check out completely.
Yeah, I am on the fence about the show as well. Problem is that practically everything coming out of Hollywood seems to be tainted by proggie stupidity.
I finally got around to finishing season 1 of American Gods the other day and I have to say I damn near threw my Xbox remote through the screen with the Vulcan episode (which btw is not in the books at all) .
They basically came right out and called rural conservative gun owners murderous nazis
Yeah, the Vulcan bit is mouth-breathing stupidity at its finest.
Following in HuffPo’s courageous footsteps, the New Yorker ventures into the dark continent of North America, Colorado edition.
http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/07/24/how-trump-is-transforming-rural-america
They discover that (SHOCK!) take away proggie Cali transplants of Denver and trustafarians of Boulder, and Colorado is Deplorable!
I do have CO as one of the states that Trump would win in a rematch w/ Hillary. I think that he’s slowly winning over a lot of people that were falsely panicking over the “two worst candidates EVAR!” narrative (I think that Obama-McCain, Bush-Kerry, Bush-Gore, and Clinton-Dole were far worse matchups. Trump is at least very non-traditional and, turns out, is actually anti-establishment)
Hoover v Roosevelt IMHO is the worst of the worst
Yeah, I know of several republicans who didn’t seem like they wanted to vote this time around.
I would imagine many didn’t here.
If they’re shocked about Colorado, Wyoming is far worse once you leave Jackson Hole.
I love how they start the entire article with a John Bircher because that’s so relevant to 2017, amirite?
Could we get a follow up on these and see where they are living now?
Unfortunately, they are all living where they lived before the election. You would think that Canada could at least take a few of them. I mean they can’t be any worse than Canada’s progs, can they? I guess there’s nothing left to ruin in Canada.
I can’t find it in here, but this looks like the source.
Bret Easton Ellis Says He Was Called a “Trump Apologist” While Leaving L.A.’s Sunset Tower Hotel
Ellis is one of more honest liberals I can think of. He is a harsh critic of campus snowflake, free speech hating, prog brownshirts.
He is like the guy behind Sargon of Akkad on YouTube. The left freaks out because Sargon attacks and dismantles SJW stupidity and arguments, but he’s truly a Left-Liberal on most issues, and almost as much of a socialist as Orwell. I watched one video just to see what the fuss was about, and he has good points in some of his content, stuff I’d dispute in some of it, and junk in other content. Just like about everyone else.
Nothing at all to see here. Just another suicide/random violence/shut up and don’t ask questions. Just ask Seth Rich’s family.

Well they finally figured out how to keep women out of the military.

Sounds like a pretty good story line for a porn.
It’s not chicks with dicks, it’s dudes with tits!
I think the plan is to roll it out in the military, then sell the training materials to High Schools, Colleges, Gold’s Gym, Bally’s, etc.
Maybe we can get some more allies for school vouchers.

Starship Troopers did it better
Reasons I despise higher education, part firthsteenth thousand: I’m barred from enrolling in network admin courses until I complete a two hour exam demonstrating that I know how to change fonts in Word and can distinguish between keyboard and mouse.
Ironically, one truly invaluable skill they could give actual computer naifs, problem solving via google, is not allowed.
Pre-reqs are a fuckin’ scam. Let people take the courses they want, if they can cut it great, if not, go back and learn more foundation.
It’s such a bald-faced scam that they’re not even pretending there’s a course you’re CLEPing out of. Instead, you’re required to CLEP regardless. There is no class. It’s nothing but a $40 per student racket.
Can you identify the central processing unit?

VIVA LA REVOLUCION!
So, Civil War? Let me just get my popcorn…
Like I said last night, there’s only going to be a civil war if the military turns (or at least a significant portion of it) or somebody arms the resistance (not the #resistance). Otherwise it’s going to be wholesale slaughter.
Well, genocide’s entertaining too so I’ll keep my popcorn out.
Unidad’s bowling team is getting serious.
I’m genuinely surprised that Maduro hasn’t begun full-fledged purges. What’s stopping him from sending in goon squads to just light up protests until there’s nobody left alive willing to complain?
Isnt he? Ok, no machine-gunning yet but it is coming. Loads of people have already been ‘disappeared’ and the jails are full. He is walking a razor’s edge and he knows it. He will end up on the end of a rope but that wont really improve things. The people there are just pissed that they ran out of other people’s stuff, they haven’t put together the cause of their misery. They just need a different top man to pass out free shit.
He’s still got room to go full Nork, which might be what we’re seeing right now. I wasn’t around at the time but the impression I have is that when Castro came to power something similar went down in Cuba, which is to say we should anticipate a large number of Venezuelan exiles incoming.
And just to think, there’s a large percentage of the US population who want to go down the same road here.
Of course, we’re going to do socialism right this time. We have the right people, Bernie, Warren, Pelosi, Schumer. What could possibly go wrong?
Um, no, Pelosi and Schumer don’t prog hard enough!
Well, progging harder is the way to winning. Why don’t the Democrats want to win?
Progging harder should win, it always wins the poll numbers! It’s just those wreckers that cheat their way in and ruin the utopia that everybody says they want!
We have two PdVSA refugees at my company. Good guys and talented engineers.
Is the problem related to the fact that most of the possible kulaks have already fled to Miami?
12% of the country’s population has fled. Ex-pats in 75 different countries voted yesterday.
(but most of them are down here. 102k ex-pats (estimated) voted yesterday in South Florida)
Around 30 million people there.
State capitalism. Ruins things every time. Bakers trying to sell their goods for dirty profit.
Toilet paper and toothpaste, too, those greedy bastards!
What about deodorants? How many kinds of that do these peasants have, huh?
Once he’s gone, they’ll likely just vote in another Chavez. I’m afraid that they’re just stuck in an endless cycle of this crap because they can’t figure out what the problem (socialism) is.
I think that a lot of people in the country already know that socialism is the problem, just not a plurality of them yet. I think it needs a few more years for actual change to appear.
I think the problem is, is that the ones who know this are a minority. The majority will vote for more socialism. People just cannot stop believing in free stuff. They have the right ideas, just the wrong person in charge. See, Chavez, he was the right guy. They’ll find another Chavez. And when they continue to be out of other people’s money, they’ll find a better Chavez replacement. Wash, rinse, repeat.
The thing about Venezuela is that they’re next door to Brazil, a place where tangible change is actually occurring and where they are actually throwing the Socialist bums in jail. When will the time come when all of those young pro-Mises activists over there also start to impact other South American countries?
Brazil is currently in really bad shape. And Brazil has the same problem as Venezuela, they just don’t have the right socialists in power right now. Lula and Dilma, took them about a decade to run out of other people’s money. Once that happens, it’s a long hard road back to prosperity. They could have elected a pro-business guy last election, but instead decided to re-elect Dilma so that she could finish the job of running out of other people’s money. It’s just unfortunate that once Temer is removed and they hold another election, the majority of the people will vote for the same thing again.
I thought that there was a large revolt coming from the libertarian right in Brazil, especially among the young. I know that they were a large factor (at least culturally speaking) in setting up the scenes for Dilma’s impeachment. I’m pretty sure it’s a movement that’s still growing in popularity: last I’ve heard, the number of pro-libertarian groups in Brazil dwarf other countries, even the US.
There are a lot of libertarians in Brazil. I know a few of them and they are American style libertarians. But out of about 200 million people, they’re a smaller minority than we libertarians are here. There simply is not enough of them combined with other right wingers to vote in someone who will not promise even more free stuff. I mean I really, really hope that happens, but I’m not optimistic at all.
I think the whole problem that liberty-lovers in general have is that it is such a recent philosophy from a historical standpoint, and that socialism and authoritarianism is in many ways instinctual. That’s why even with the problems that the American right has with the establishment GOP, the US is still a relative paradise of freedom relative to other parts of the world, the vast majority of them being leftist hellholes.
I’m genuinely surprised that Maduro hasn’t begun full-fledged purges.
Maybe it’s a sign that his support in the military/police is too soft to engage in such brutal tactics? There was that police helicopter that ineffectually lobbed grenades at the capitol for about an hour and then escaped without being taken down, so it’s possible that there are a lot of military/police who like getting fed but aren’t really loyal to the regime. I’ve heard that the regime is arming civilian groups as well, which would seem to bolster this theory that they can’t rely on the military when push comes to shove.
His goons did mange to shoot up a few protest voters.
Correlation, causation, something something.
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/health-news/artificial-sweeteners-weight-gain-link-research-health-issues-diabetes-a7844611.html
One of the fattest kids I knew – and my best friend – was always drinking diet soda/pop/coke.
Of course the rest of the time he was eating copious amounts of food – like the diet stuff was a religious indulgence.
The first thing people change in their diet when they gain weight is to switch to diet soda. Because it’s so easy. Hence the correlation.
I knew a gal who lost 30lb in a month simply switching from regular coke to diet coke. She was humongous to begin with, so the 30lb was good but not spectacular. She also drank about 10 bottles of coke a day at work, so it did add up.
If you drink a lot of soda and want to lose some weight, switching to diet is an easy way to drop a couple of hundred calories per day.
It isn’t as good as eating properly and exercising, but switching from a triple cheeseburger to a double cheeseburger is at least a step in the right direction, and probably an easy diet than switching straight to salads for every meal.
I have a theory or two about this.
People who eat “diet” stuff do so because they think they’ll consume fewer calories if the products they consume contain fewer calories. It’s a substitute for portion control and lack of physical activity. So, basically, people who choose “diet” stuff are people who don’t plan to do things like exercise regularly or eat less. They buy different stuff rather than put in the work it would take to actually maintain a healthy physique.
In tandem with that, when people think the soda they’re drinking has half the calories, they tend to drink twice as much. More than twice, really. It’s like they think of “diet” as meaning that each portion has just few enough calories to make however much they consume magically not get stored as fat. As an exercise, keep track of how often you see someone drinking a small Diet Coke. Or, and this is my favorite, look for people who get a large double quarter pound with cheese meal with a Diet Coke.
+1 Fridge
OMG, the McDLT!!!
George Costanza loved the McDLT, too.
I like sandwiches that are kits.
A Diet Coke has 0 calories, so…?
And the soda is by far the worst part of a value meal. A quarter pounder with cheese has pretty good macros. The soda is terrible and the fries aren’t far behind. The burger? Pretty good.
Retard candidates make promise so retarded that even retarded Denver Post can see how retarded it is.
http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/14/2714227/
IOW, they’re going to achieve Venezuela style daily power blackouts in CO by 2030?
Math!
Hah…..was just going to post that. Layers of fact-checking at work there.
Ha! Good catch. The un-counted 5% will (of course) be provided by unicorn farts.
But apparently Hawaii out-retards everyone:
Granted, if any state can do it, my money would be on Hawaii due to their near constant sun (I mean during the day, assholes), an abundance of geothermal energy, and a small-ish population. But, still…good luck with that.
Its going to be a disaster, provided they actually try it and this isnt just another meaningless virtue signal.
Go for it motherfuckers.
Keeping the poor destitute and backward is a leftist specialty, whether you’re a slavery leftist, segregationist leftist, or a race-baiting proggy leftist. This climate change narrative fulfills the same sort of power grab, since you know, firewood counts as a renewable!
I predict that it will go the way of the California’s 1990 mandate that 10% of the 2003 vehicle fleet be comprised of zero-emission vehicles.
Obviously, it never happened even though it was the law.
The Big Island would be the easiest one to run, since Geothermal would easily cover the night for their population. Although Geo-thermal is possible on Oahu, I don’t see it as nearly as feasible.
It also helps when the temps are very constant and beautiful. No need for much AC or heating ever.
Although those crazy people get cold when it’s 65 out, so their heating bills are insane compared to their climate.
Last time we were there, Honolulu had just set their all time low temp record (low 50’s) and they were all bitching about it. When they found out we were from Minnesoda, they would try to tell us that they now understood how we felt because they were now part of the Brotherhood of Low Temps or something.
That’s so true. My cousin lived in Hawaii until recently (returned after college, and a few years in Chicago). Her kids just thought it wasn’t a big deal, and everyone else in their school was “literally freezing”. So funny.
I lived in Arizona for a long time. My teeth chatter at any temperature below 70 F unless I start adding layers.
So much liberty, so much freedom…umm…
How come our Congress doesn’t care this much? Someone needs to do something!
It’s easier to govern in China
+1 Tom Friedman
feeling a little 11 o’clockish?
Of course the rest of the time he was eating copious amounts of food – like the diet stuff was a religious indulgence.
Nothing says “health conscious” like some fatso at Wendy’s ordering a triple bacon cheeseburger, large fries and a diet Coke.
It’s a double no cheese, side salad and an unsweet tea thank you very much sir. *waddles away*
Nonsense! Salads are for cows! It should be a rack of ribs followed by an entire chicken! BEEFCAKE!!
Gotta make sure the T levels don’t get to high though. Might start ripping things apart by accident.
If you aren’t headbutting brick walls for bein’ in the way, your T-levels aren’t high enough.
Even for a media political pundit, Matthew Dowd is an exceptionally stupid man
Thank goodness for these Catholic Progs we finally have a lefty pope!
commie pope
What the fuck is it with straight-laced long-form journalism outfits shoehorning autoplay video supplementals into their articles? Is there some unwritten anti-dog-eat-dog rule in place that requires news and opinion sites to all adopt the same obnoxious practices so nobody abstaining gets an unfair advantage?
people had a rant about it here a few months ago. not only is it obnoxious, resource hogging, distracting from what you’re actually trying to do – READ a piece – and often poorly implemented…. but they often don’t even manage to make the story + piece match. or maybe their clips are so short, by the time you’re on paragraph 2, the video is now telling you shit about a different story that has nothing to do with what you’re reading.
its horrible. i think at the time i said NYT – for all the horrors they inflict on people in other ways – was comparatively better than WaPo + CNN and USA Today, etc. Reuters is sort of hit-or-miss. AP is OK if you read their feed site
I mentioned that what i started doing a few years ago was setting up an RSS feed so that i get stories forwarded to either a webpage or Outlook account, in plain text (which has links to the source story). It just means i can read text-only stories on the fly why doing work without having my browser all clogged up with media-site nonsense. I like it, esp on the phone where i think its absolutely essential. Android has an app called Sparse RSS which works well. (other RSS readers have lots of bells and whistles i don’t really need/want)
, if any state can do it, my money would be on Hawaii due to their near constant sun (I mean during the day, assholes), an abundance of geothermal energy, and a small-ish population.
How much electricity do people in beachside hobo jungles really use, anyway?
“Gunn is the fourth teacher from Gwinnett who has been arrested on sex-related charges stemming from the 2015-16 school year”

–“The student in this case told the court that Gunn “made [his] adolescence a living hell.””–
Ok, Unlike the majority of these stories where the teacher is inexplicably hot in this case I can buy that the kid might be a victim.
He probably wasn’t harmed by the sex at all but my guess is the other kids figured out what was going in and he had to deal with everyone knowing he hooked up with that.
The fact that this is the 4th teacher arrested from the same school a year is crazy.
Dear God, I’m not sure whether exile or euthanasia is the more humane remedy. For the kid, I mean.
Once he’s gone, they’ll likely just vote in another Chavez. I’m afraid that they’re just stuck in an endless cycle of this crap because they can’t figure out what the problem (socialism) is.
Paying market prices will be a bitter, bitter pill to swallow. The adjustment will be hard.
Not understanding socialism is contagious iow brainwashing people is easy.
http://hotair.com/archives/2017/07/16/video-college-students-support-socialism-even-though-no-idea-work/
Once someone has accepted that the government can just give out everything for free, it must change their brain in some fundamental way, because they become unreasonable and no one can present any logical argument that will convince them to change their mind.
Chavez got enough people on the dole that there’s now no way to vote out the socialists. It’s the same plan the left has here. Socialist ideologues and their useful idiots. I’m afraid that once they’re in complete power, you can never get rid of them. Until economic collapse, chaos, and a military coup or dictator happens. Has even one country ever came back from that to be a successful free market economy? Look at Russia, socialism lead to collapse and Putin.
Poland? Not stating as fact; actual question.
East Germany I suppose. But with Merkel, I’m afraid they’re headed right back to where they were at before.
East Germany had West Germany to bail their collective asses out.
I was just about to say that. I don’t think you can count E. Germany.
True, very true.
Chile comes to mind, but only after a decade or so of a somewhat nasty military dictatorship.
Eastern European countries are pretty normal. Georgia and Lithuania are ranked higher than the US in Cato’s Economic Freedom of the World Index.
Another day, another Tesla turns on its owner.
Splashdown! Of course the Red Star doesn’t have the comments enabled for the article. One of my favorite bits of entertainment is watching the Musk-fellators descend on any negative article to watermelonsplain why Teslas are the best car on the planet.
Tesla should use Who Made Who in their ads. It would make me laugh and laugh and laugh.
I wish someone with way more A/V skills than me would make a Tesla/Maximum Overdrive spoof
There is, of course, the alternate explanation that in this case the guy hit the gas instead of the brake and is trying to blame the car.
Of course. Just the scenario that killed Audi for 10+ years.
I wonder if the Feds will go after Tesla as aggressively…
Don’t ruin our narrative!
Check out Malcom Gladwell’s podcast about this topic.
Basically, he came to the conclusion that it is always people jamming down on what they think is the brake, but it is really the accelerator. It was very interesting because he goes into a lot of tests that pretty much prove it is human error.
Of course Consumer Reports isn’t backing down.
That was retarded.
C&D tackled it, too.
With different results and advice.
Fucking idiots. Obviously Gladwell is right, most of the time it’s going to be due to the driver having his foot at least partially on the accelerator.
It’s also easy to demonstrate that brakes beat accelerators. Try flooring your accelerator. Now while still doing this, gently apply your brake.
Your car will nicely come to a stop.
Brakes beat accelerators.
You mean Jim Sikes was full of shit?
Or set the emergency brake, or put the car in neutral, or push in the clutch for a manual. It looks like people panicking and losing their heads to me.
E brake would not stop a car going over 50, but neutral works every time.
I just listened to that whole podcast and it actually made me tear up. The whole thing is just a shitshow from start to finish.
It was excellent. And infuriating.
So, Elon is now railing about the dangers of AI. It sounds to me like a thinly veiled ploy to get the government to give Elon some sort of monopoly over AI, just to keep us all safe from it. Not sure why I would think that.
That’s similar to what Rasilio posited earlier:
Dude was tired of making payments on the Tesla and wanted an out.
Has even one country ever came back from that to be a successful free market economy?
The Czechs? Estonia?
Where does Chile land? Granted, giving commies helicopter rides ain’t my idea of a prosperous liberal free-market country, but considering the alternative…
HK?
HK is #1, but it’s never been socialist.
“We are socialists, we are enemies of today’s capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions”
Whoever said this, or not, the only one thing that is clear, is that they were not talking about ‘real’ socialism, which has not been tried yet.
