That is a terrific lead photo. The twigs that girl is bringing to the gun show are just laughably cute.
And useless.
Well, not totally useless. I can think of something she can do with those tiny hands.
Put them behind her back as she’s placed under arrest. What did you think I meant?
Well, I guess if you like the type that’s a good lead in for some kinky sex.
Paper bag spinner. Flap-jack chick. Medusa and the Gorgons…
See, there’s reasons to live near a big body of water that isn’t the ocean. Sure, we may get snow, sleet, hail, and the rare tornado. But no hurricanes. You just have to give up most sports, and even then there’s tOSU as the methadone to the Browns heroin.
In other news, it’ll be an early night for me, as the first beer was this beast, and I have to get up early to ride 65 miles for charity tomorrow. At least this one won’t put up a sign at the 26.2 mile mark saying, “If this was a marathon, you’d be done now.”
Ha. But, having done both, I’d rather ride 143 than run 13.1.
The ride tomorrow is a trail ride (~90% crushed limestone), not a road ride, so I’ll be on my hybrid instead of the road bike. At least it’s mostly flat. My goal is to get a better time then I did last year. This year the trail should be dry, as opposed to last year when it rained the night before.
I see. Well, have fun – kinda hate surfaces like that myself. (My motto – if I can’t ride 700×23, I ain’t riding.)
That beer looks delicious.
It was. I have one more bottle that’s getting stashed in the cellar. If you want, I can see if any of the stores around here still have any. It runs $9 a 12 oz bottle.
That is tempting. My refrigerator is full of stuff I brought back from my last Pennsylvania trip and I still haven’t finished everything I brought back from Canada in July. I will pass, but thank you!
18%. Holy shit. I haven’t been a huge fan of vanilla stouts but I’d give it a shot.
I’d try the regular World Wide Stout first. It’s a big, heavy sipper of a beer. I’m glad the night temperatures dropped, because I wouldn’t want to drink this when it’s 80 outside.
Wow, they don’t hold back. Sounds good. I thought dogfish just did IPAs. I’ll have to look for their stouts. I don’t think I’ve seem them in Ohio although I think we recently had a change in law concerning abvs.
Dogfish is a really eclectic brewery. They were one of the first to go the route of ancient ales, for which they hired an archeologist to analyze reside in old jars to make some beers (Midas Touch, Theobroma, Sah’tea, Ta Henket, and others). They’ve also done some really strange beers.
The ones that were held back by the old Ohio ABV laws were:
120 Minute IPA
World Wide Stout
Raison D’Extra
Fort
Olde School Barleywine
As I mentioned in the last thread, they finally made it to MN. I had this one the other day. Not a high ABV, but great for a summer night.
Congrats. I love the SeaQuench Ale, I’ll even forgive the pun in order to have a great sessionable sour ale.
My introduction to Dogfish was their Immort Ale. Very good. It was a while before I tried their IPAs. Not bad, and I usually don’t go for IPAs because the hops a lot of brewers use for IPAs are hops I don’t like.
There was a TV show that was on Netflix for a while called Brew Masters which was all based on Dogfish Head. There was an episode where they were explaining that the company was employee owned, and they had to dump a full batch of 120 minute because of lower then expected attenuation. Even my non-beer drinking girlfriend was upset watching all of the beer they had to dump run down a drain.
they had to dump a full batch of 120 minute because of lower then expected attenuation
That is sad.
From the Banksquatch link:
But Yellen’s comments on bank regulation underscore that President Trump is unlikely to reappoint to her a second term.
I don’t see how that is a bad thing.
Oh. No.
Arpaio just pardoned by Trump – https://twitter.com/ScottAdamsSays/status/901236027519455232
Waiting for the promised Razorfist video.
I’ve only seen a few of his videos when other folks link them and I had no idea he lived in AZ or that he supported Arpaio.
Does Razorfist just handwave away stuff like the double-dipping pension scam with Hendershott and other nonpolitical fiscal malfeasance on Arpaio’s part? Because that’s something that even people who support his dealings with illegal aliens should balk at.
He’s got a beef with a lot of the local state media and gov’t being california blue in a raging red state. see also this vid which covers a lot of stuff pretty well.
That crazy son of a bitch
If a jury convicted him, I might care more.

The Chicago Teachers Union criticised an element of the funding plan, so it’s not a *complete* shit show.
It’s mainly a bailout for Chicago Public Schools, but I’m glad the private school tuition program pisses off the teachers union. Anything that upsets teachers unions must be good for poor kids
Typical taxpayer assrape. Dog bites man, man rapes dog.
The best part of that link is the other link inside about the Chicago police covering up the death of a police officer. Police killing their own seems like a dog rapes man story worth reading.
North Korea launched more missiles.
North Korea launched three missiles into the sea between the Korean Peninsula and Japan on Saturday morning, reigniting tensions after a month of heated rhetoric between Pyongyang and Washington.
The launches coincide with joint exercises between the U.S. and South Korean militaries, exercises that North Korea always strongly protests because it considers them preparation for an invasion.
The first and third missiles failed in flight, while the second appears to have blown up almost immediately, said the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii, which monitors North Korean missiles.
This is gonna hurt me more than it hurts you.
They should have used stringer duct tape.
stronger
Because it sorta is. That’s kinda the point of the exercises…. Don’t go screwing with our South Korean friends or we’ll double-team your butt!
Which makes me wonder if there aren’t some generals in the North that could be won over to a peaceful reunification. It would take a guy like Trump to pull it off. After all of the bluster, Trump could offer them a surrender in exchange for the top guys taking a cushy retirement and opening up the borders and “reunifying” with the south.
You could run the whole thing like one of those corporate mergers where for whatever reason they pretend like the whole thing is a merger of equals – when in reality they bought out the little guy and the whole management team is taking their payout and going home. But in public they talk about the merger of two great companies and working together and bla, bla, bla….
Do the same thing with Dear Leader III. He’s great, the whole leadership is great, he’s going to lead the transition team because he’s the best….. and you send him and whoever else you need to over into a plush hotel in the corner to talk about nothing while the South Koreans, the US and China navigate making one country out of the wreck that is North Korea and the powerhouse that is the South.
They are so nutty that a US surrender might be enough to get them to give up everything. “We surrender… the terms of surrender include the unification of north and south under the government of the south. Congratulations, Dear Leader, you won the war.”
The problem with that idea is that the South looked at what happened with German reunification and decided they weren’t excited the concept, and China isn’t exactly eager to try to fix up the Norks mess either.
True point. And the North are too far gone to be reached at all, I’m afraid.
Oh, for those who want to drink a beer from a brewery that is a full throated supporter of the First Amendment, look towards Flying Dog. They fought Michigan over Raging Bitch, have Ralph Steadman doing their labels, and created a First Amendment Society.
See them all the time, but some of the reviews looked meh. I’ll check again next time I’m at Total Wine. I love the names and labels.
I’d recommend the Raging Bitch (Belgian IPA) or the Gonzo (Imperial Porter) depending on your tastes. The Truth isn’t bad, but it’s a pretty bog standard IIPA.
My take: this outfit thinks that brewing consists of putting hop solutions in bottles with smart assed labels on them.
Anyone care to recommend a good bluetooth headset? My last pair of buds died after about less than three months of use.
…gilmore’d
Jaybird X3. I’ve had a bunch of other different kinds and they’ve all sucked. I use them a ton.
Thanks!
single ear headset mainly for talking or two ears for music/video?
Two ears. Don’t care much about audio quality, I mostly listen to podcasts. Also don’t care about built-in mic, I prefer taking calls on my phone. I just want something that isn’t going to shit out after three months. The last pair quit taking a charge 🙁
I’ve had their beers. Good shit.
They had a variety tasting at one of my local liquor stores last weekend. So I went up and talked to the guy behind the ultra elite totally high class ‘wine tasting’ counter that they sometimes let the beer connoisseurs use when there are not ultra most importenest wine tasting stuff going on.
I’t not like Flying Dog is anything new to me. I’ve lived in Maryland for 10 years now. Has their selection improved since way back when? No. All of their beers are still some shitty variety of ultra hoppy IPA.
My Boston prog acquaintance loathes Carr. But he’s the only one who seems to go after the left with such gusto in New England. I don’t agree with him on some things but I’ll be damned if I don’t like some of his ‘fuck you Kennedys’ and mob stories. I love how he makes fun of Kerry.
I dunno, I think he’s pretty funny.
Carr’s problem is that most people know him from stuff where he’s surrounded by people who are funnier than him, so he looks worse by contrast.
I think people in India should worship Steve Smith.

If any of yall are interested in the hurricane the Weather Underground blog is very informative, straight weather reporting.
George Bush doesn’t care about black people.
Smart people know that only their mom and dad truely care about them so they should plan accordingly.
Look at this guy, with a mom AND a dad.
Yes, should have said only mom and dad, if you’re lucky (something privilege?), care about you so plan accordingly. Also, Sean Penn cares about you if there’s a camera filming.
But if your Venezuelan he has it out for you, for some reason.
That stall is going to be a problem.
Wow. I hope folks affected come through OK.
Glad I discovered them – never ever again visiting yahoo or weather.com with all their BS cruft.
I thought WU and weather.com were both part of the “Weather” Channel behemoth.
They are.
Huh. Since 2012.
Well, they don’t serve me crap like “10 Most Amazing Bridges In America!” so I’m good.
Weather Channel already said storm of century. Which tells me, dud. Sit on your porch and have a beer, laugh at Weather Channel. Seems to be long running trend.
Weather Underground is always top notch in my experience.
Yep. Spot on radar.
I have been a fan of theirs for years. They seemed to have the best radar stitching maps down pat before anyone else with less bullshit ads and what not. Their app is great as well. I have used it driving and hit the rain exactly when it was expected. It missed on snow a few times but that is a limit of radar I suppose.
Im sitting in a hospital waiting room with cnn reporting the storm. While also bitching about trump. Though i at least agree, someone needs to send the woodchippers to Arpaio’s house.
Sooner rather than later.
Keep safe to all our friends caught in the storm.
Only 33 arrests out of 40,000 protesters and a sympathetic political environment. That’s less than a 0.1% misbehaviour rate. Right wing hype!
Totally unrelated, your avatar is fantastic.
Why thank you, young lovely.
I’m constantly amazed by the contrast between all the nice friendly Indians I work with and the shitshow that is India.
But… Shika Dalmia.
*spikes football*
Never been to India proper, and my experience is really in one or two urban centers, but in general I’ve found that on average the middle class urban Indians are generally pretty standard and normal while the poorer rural times tend to be a little more batshit.
Which urban centers outside of India are you referring to?
Toronto, Ottawa. Like I said, not the best sample base. Also we tend to have way more Sikhs than Hindus.
To be fair, it’s kind of hard to generalize ~1.3 billion people.
Hence the need for plenty of qualifiers.
Generalizing poutine on the other hand…
Some things are constants, not variables.
The droids you are looking for aren’t here.
I am a big fan of poutine. One local craft brew pub does poutine and green chile. Yum!
Poutine is Food of the Gods.
They’re all mountebanks and fucking wankers.
That wasn’t so hard.
What line of work?
The reason I ask is my sister had an Indian instructor in college for some humanities course – said the instructor was a friggin psycho.
IT. And ever since most of the backroom of Wall Street decamped to Jersey there’s a huge Little India in Jersey City now.
OK, so basically a productive endeavor. Which explains one’s general demeanor.
That is not a shitshow, that is proper rioting.

“The balance of research suggests that the core reforms we have put in place have substantially boosted resilience without unduly limiting credit availability or economic growth,” Yellen said.

I am not sure availability to credit for small business has ever been eased, but the last time we eased home buying for credit risks it did not end so well.
http://www.treasurydirect.gov/govt/reports/pd/histdebt/histdebt.htm
So can someone explain how the debt rose under Clinton despite surpluses? What that real accounting or fake accounting?
Anyway the last time the debt the got smaller was in 1957…
I’m not sure if the overall debt went down under Truman (though this was after the WWII rachet).
The last real debt reduction was under Coolidge.
The last real debt reduction under a Democrat was….Grover Cleveland.
Anyway the only plausible fiscal conservatism is to keep the debt under $40 trillion by 2025
http://www.craigsteiner.us/articles/16
For those uninterested in reading, government accounting lists public debt and intragovernmental debt. When government borrows from social security, it is counted as inttragovernmental debt rather than public debt. Of course, debt is debt, but nitwit Democrats who can’t understand accounting, and the few disingenuous Democrats who can understand it like to delude themselves into thinking there are different kinds of debt. Hence the Krugman bullshit of “We owe it to ourselves.” Take a Clinton tax increase, add in a Fed-blown dot com bubble, and you have record revenues such that the number one buyer of the reduced amount of Treasuries issued is SSA (by law). Therefore, miniscule deficit but still an increase in overall debt.
Any POTUS’s final budget is while the successor is in office, so when the dot com bubble burst and the revenues shrank, the people who don’t understand budgets (98% of all humanity) blame the successor even though the successor’s budget cannot be in place yet. Of course, blame for a bubble bursting rightly belongs to the Fed Chair that created the bubble but the average induhvidual has no capacity to understand this.
Why is it these conferences, whatever they are, are always in places like Jackson Hole or Aspen or some other high end resort location. THERE SHOULD BE A LAW that they can have no conferences unless it is in a city where the median home price is under $150,000. Make the fuckers stay at the Super 8 and eat at Dennys.
Considering Andrew’s opinion on the bank, choosing Jackson Hole seems like a giant F*** you to the man.
So is putting him on paper money.
I remember seeing the menu and prices at the Davos bonfire of other people’s money and sighing.
I find it infuriating. I actually agree with the commis on this one. Fuck this ruling class bullshit and working vacations to top of the line resorts. These assholes ever heard of Skype? Fuck them.
But if you were as pretty as Trudy why wouldn’t you use what god intended? Hugo Boss model? Boy Band member? Catholic Priest?
First off, how do you know I am not a boy band member? Second, all those things require voluntary contribution to succeed. Unlike Top Peoples Working Vacations.

So why should Washington and Jefferson be spared? Trump? And Stuyvesant and James Ii? Because they would be incredibly inconvenient?
what’a a james ii?
It’s Jame li.
Huge difference.
I think.
ugh. James li.
Note to self: You’re an idiot.
Pronounced “Ha-mess”, of course.
James Li? Don’t know the guy. Family lineage from mainland China?
Jame Gumb Li?

Look, just because Washington and Jefferson were the fathers of and ushered in the greatest leap forward in human civilization and the human condition and prosperity, ever, in the history of humans, in an amazingly short period of time, doesn’t mean we shouldn’t revision history. You racist bigot monsters don’t get it. We need to burn down Western civilization now and replace it with… ok, we don’t know what yet, but it’s more like savagery, and that’s better! Because!
I draw the line at reading the comments. I can’t even.
HuffPo? I used to comment there, years ago. I gave up for obvious reasons. They get a lot of comments and 99% of them are some slight variant of the others. In this case, something like: “Trump is Hitler, you’re a racist!”. That’s about it.
I used to visit there now and again but Ben Stiller (!) got me perma-banned for making an off color anti-semitic joke. Ben fucking Stiller. It was 2008 or something, but even I couldn’t handle the vitriol. Fuck Huffpo with that naily baseball bat.
the fathers of and ushered in the greatest leap forward in human civilization and the human condition and prosperity, ever, in the history of humans, in an amazingly short period of time
When did they take the trip over to London and invent the Industrial Revolution?
We can go back a lot further than that if you want, I mean just for the sake of argument.
My point is more that I get that Americans furiously masturbate over their Founding Fathers (in a way that would probably disgust them because most of them hated hero worship) but statements about the ‘greatest leap forward in human civilization and the human condition and prosperity’ are fundamentally incorrect, and insulting. In terms of material benefit (i.e. ‘prosperity’) Watts and Smith had a hell of a lot more to do with the improvement of the human condition than Washington or Jefferson. Both admittedly promoted a beneficial system (only for certain people however), but the American obsession with holding them up as near gods is juvenile. They also promoted a way of life in the form of agrarian virtues that is actually a significant contrast to industrialization. And I like Jefferson’s writings, but the elevation of the man to a status he is frankly not worthy of (nor would be interested in assuming the position) is pathetic.
Whenever you get time to leave the tundra and come down to the habitable zones, JT, please visit Monticello. stop by and we’ll go together. I admit to thinking that Jefferson is a great figure in the history of civilization. And the USA has somehow turned out a lot better than Limeyville, not to a small extent due to our founders, who while not being Gods, were original thinkers and deserve a lot of credit for it.
/Muika fuck yeah!
I’m not a proponent of the Great Man theory of history, but I also think the Industrial Revolution is exaggerated in importance.
In order to get the Industrial Revolution you first had to have the revolution in individual and property rights. Some semblance of those rights existed in European cities (in a corrupted form) but did not exist in agrarian areas. And agriculture is the easiest way to produce a usable surplus. (Learning a skilled trade – at least in Europe at the time – had extreme barriers to entry and were a much riskier proposition.)
The surplus capital is what fuels the investment in what comes next. The Industrial Age came to most all parts of the earth, but the American system of individual and property rights is what allowed the US to avoid control by TOP. MEN. and create more wealth per capita as a result. The US South saw much less of that, due to the fact that they held firm to their tradition of landed aristocracy.
Of course that wealth creation begat the huge wave of immigration which begat the creation of skilled trade guilds and labor unions in US (northern) cities a la Europe, along with the political corruption that goes hand-in-hand with it. Which begat the slow and steady erosion of individual and property rights.
This is where the operators of TOS have their heads up their asses. You can’t on the one hand open up the borders to more immigration while at the same time enact all sorts of legislation creating barriers to economic involvement. And if you try to dismantle this stuff in the wrong order, you get the exact fuckup that the EU has become.
White Supremacists, BLM, Antifa, and 22-year olds with 200K in college debt are the direct result of the erosion of individual and property rights and the increasing barriers to economic involvement.

Science man has thoughts:
Neil deGrasse Tyson @neiltyson
Hmm. Don’t see much denial of @NOAA climate scientists who have predicted Hurricane Harvey’s devastating path into Texas.
7:53 AM · Aug 25, 2017
Hahhahahahahaahhaha
Two days ago the forecast was for a category 1 at landfall. A week ago they had it about 50-50 that it would even turn back into a tropical storm.
Hurricane forecasting is something we’re not very good at (though we’re getting much better), and he’s talking long-term climate models, which don’t even have as good and long a history as hurricane forecasting.
Is that a real tweet?
We can’t tell, so our initial reaction stands.
It’s real, and it’s fantastic.
Having a blue checkmark both is indicative and highly causative of permanent brain damage.
Didn’t he say something similar about the Eclipse?
My god he so fucking disingenuous. That is like Tony levels of arguing in bad faith.
And despite how blatant that disingenuousness is he’ll be widely and loudly applauded for it.
Well he IS a science-talkin’ Negro…
Predicting the patterns of already existing hurricanes is a lot than easier than predicting the paths of yet to exist hurricanes in 10 years.
Yeah but they predicted it. The astrophysicist said so.
The sun rises and sets! Proof that all science predictions are accurate.
And yes scientists still can’t predict the exact path and the maximum strength of a hurricane when it first forms.
Scientists can’t predict that even after it forms. On average, they’re about 200 miles off at the 120 hour forecast. Intensity forecasting is worse than that.
Yeah well that’s within the six sigma deviation.
Lean hurricane?
Bro, don’t you even Science?
Anyways, there’s a reason that black science man is the patron saint of /r/iamverysmart.
Yeah, he’s got nothing on Jewish Economics Man.
Hmmm. Is it fair to call him a scientist anymore?
On scientists
Tyson has an ego the size of the bloody planet. It’s even worse when he tries to talk about stuff like governance or history.
Rationalia!
I was going to make a meme of NDT with the cone of uncertainty around his neck like a dog that won’t stop licking an open sore. Seemed a bit too racist, though.
The worst part is that Neil Stephenson had to muddy the waters and make him the protagonist of of his shitpile aka Seveneves”. What cunts and what cunts we are to keep buying/watching this shit.
Meteorologist =/= climatologist.
Weather =/= climate.
Tyson =/= intelligent and honest scientist.
Hey, for your Tahini Sauce do you use straight Tahini, or do you sauce it up with other stuff? We have a drought of Middle Eastern markets here so I could not get advice. It took me three stores to even find Tahini. But it is straight up Tahini.
No, tahini is always mixed with other stuff (at minimum, stuff like lemon juice and some water) to thin it out and add flavour. There are lots of good “tahini sauce” recipes on the ‘Net. Go nuts. You’ll find something you like sooner or later . . .
For instance, pay attention to the Lemon Tahini Dressing in this recipe. It’s quite good, and works well with stuff like falafel as well.
Don’t forget to give the straight tahini a good stir before you measure it out — it usually settles (like “all-natural” peanut butter) and thus has oil on top and really thick, almost-concrete-like nut/seed solids on the bottom.
Ok thanks. What you linked below is similar to what I did. I did stir it. When I get around to it it will be Falafel Friday. I am not drunk enough to eat yet though.
I usually do a greek yogurt based cucumber and dill sort of thing for schwarma and what not. Tahini is new to me.
New, but surprisingly similar treatment. (Man, now I’ve got the munchies . . . )
I find food to be my greatest interest these days, followed closely by politics. The anti appropriation horde can lick my hairy garbanzos.
If you like cucumber, tomato, and onion try: One cuc skinned and diced, a hand full of cherry tomatoes cut in half (Or off the vine fresh toms), a small onion cut quarter slices, about a T of olive oil and a small t Sumac. Let that sit 30 mins or so and adjust. Might need salt might not. Maybe more Sumac, maybe not. It is a crazy spice. All good.
Or, sesame, as it is known in Colorado.
Pretty sure it is known as that elsewhere.
If the local weathermen were as wildly off as IPCC, they’d be evacuating the coast of Finland right now.
Now this is a warning:
On par with what the National Weather Service put out when Katrina hit New Orleans.
Over/under if things go bad the T’rump hates black people’ trope gets peddled.
God’s revenge of the rednecks for voting Trump…
100% it gets racialized just like the eclipse – hilariously – did.
I’m going for a full rehash of the fundie ‘Katrina happened because of the ho-mo-sexuals’ claim with ‘Harvey happened because Trumpkins’.
Well, if it is coming ashore around Corpus and hooking a right, it is due to Brownsville. So this storm, like Trump, hates brown people.
Wait, that is a couple hundred miles…….I don’t think it changes my theory though.

Sorry. https://www.japantimes.co.jp/tag/hate-speech/
Goddammit. Still so stressed out from work today (long story), took 2 mg of klonopin and it’s not doing a damn thing to slow me down. Probably just should’ve had a drink, which I now can’t have, because klonopin.
Also, not the source of work stress, but we also got an all-work e-mail this week titled “Charlottesville” talking about how we all need to stand together (whatever) and how the company’s making a donation to the SPLC (and how we’re all encouraged to do the same). Yeah, that’s a no.
Also, that wasn’t supposed to be a reply, though I guess it kind of ties in.
Dude, chill. Most of my clients are … ok, maybe not most, but sort of most, are proggie bastions of retardation. I delete that shit daily and on an industrial scale. It’s why we come here, one of the last strongholds of sanity and civilization. Somewhere along the way in human progress, the Gods added the self destruct gene. I really don’t have anything better at the moment.
My issue isn’t my clients. Attended a board meeting of a public company I help represent just after the election. Their mood was quite jovial.
It’s the other lawyers that are my issue. BigLaw is basically high school with more money and the people are bigger assholes.
all-work e-mail this week titled “Charlottesville” talking about how we all need to stand together
Lawyers right? So I assume they will be standing for free speech?
Free speech? Yes, that will be $300 per hour. What? Didn’t work? Sorry, not my fault, pay up peasant.
I made a donation, like was asked. I even made it to SPLC. Well, I made a donation to *a* SPLC. Just not the one they were talking about.
The lawyers I work with are a very liberal bunch, on the most part, though there were several cheering the day after the election.
Watching Logan for the first time. Entertaining. Fucking bloody, the way you’d expect a movie about a guy with knife hands would be. Kinda obvious wokeness cues in the first half hour, but that’s the price of watching modern cinema.
Just can’t groove on the Superhero thing. Give me masterpieces like “Deliverance” or “Apocalypse Now”. Movies that had a tale to tell about the human condition. Silly filler for silly minds. You know what is a great movie? King of the Great Northwest! Shocking, brutal and funny and never to be shown on TCM.
I get that. I love me a couple superhero movies, but for the most part I just wonder why these movies are so goddamn boring.
I love GotG 1. Haven’t seen 2. I heard it doesn’t live up. But GotG 1 was very entertaining. And that’s about the only superhero film I consider rewatchable. Maybe Nolan’s Batman trilogy, but even there it’s a flipping through the channels kind of rewatch. Which I don’t have, channels.
I’m liking Logan so far because it’s character driven and not so much action or fantasy oriented. It’s very human. It’s stupid and sad that we’re reduced to a change in movie rating to get somewhat tolerable movies.
I think Marvel’s bigger issue is the irrelevancy of their material, which basically makes you not give a fuck until the actors are able to really pull it off (Downey is a perfect example of this). DC has the opposite, they take their stories about men in tights so damn seriously that you can’t. There needs to be a middle ground no one is exploiting.
I think Marvel’s bigger issue is the *irreverency of their material…
When I was a wee lad they showed “Walkabout” to us for a Saturday matinee. I was seven years old and have never looked back. Crikey! Young Jenny Agutter. And just when I’d wiped the confused sweat from my brow she shows up in “Logan’s Run” when I was eleven. Our small town movie theater guys were either pervacious or the kind of guys you’d want to grab a beer with.
Apples to oranges there, the superhero genre is intended to appeal to the masses in a dumb popcorn sense, while the masterpieces are much more selective and low key. They both fill their intended functions, even if I tend to like the latter more than the former.
It’s one of the reasons I love/hate George Lucas. I love THX 1138, and I’m fine with Star Wars, but out there is some universe where he didn’t succeed commercially and is still making weirdo scifi cult classics.
I first saw Star Wars in the theater when I was 12. I recognized it as hackneyed and silly but that never stopped me from hopping around the basement , swinging a length of doweling and going “Vrooom, Zoooom”. But I was twelve years old and had yet to cup an underbra breast (that came later). This shit is silly and I can’t believe that people take it seriously.
Is there anything better than that?
This guy doesn’t get it.
I first saw Star Wars in the theater when I was 13. I recognized it as hackneyed and silly and walked out – and in to Annie Hall.
The superhero genre began as propaganda. Despite a few attempts at re-purposing, it remains as such.
I searched for King Of The Great Northwest and got nothing. Suggestions?
It’s one of those films that was released with a couple of different titles. It starred Ernest Borgnine and was about hobos and trainhoppers during the Depression era. Their may have been distribution issues, hence the different titles and the fact that it never shows up on oldie channels.
I must have been the only person that thought that movie stunk. Oh well, fwiw my gf hated it too. The virtue signalling throughout the whole fucking movie certainly didn’t help.
A hot take about Charlottesville and the future.
It’s a bit tin foil hatty but honestly it makes it’s case pretty well. Is the left cooking up something for political gain?
“Have you noticed the multiple calls recently for increased gun control”
If he means during the past 30 years or so, then yes. They’ve also been losing that argument except for their one huge win in 1994.
Gun Control is just a means to an end. “Icky people that we don’t like have firearms and that just won’t do!” I used to have rifles and shotguns but I gave them up when I realized that I was incapable of safely using them for their intended purpose (side note – Festus can get pretty maudlin whilst in his cups). I still like shooting but choose not to have that tool at my drunken disposal and that’s nobody’s business but mine (and yours and the NSA now).
Throw out ideas of gun control and force the right to stand next to Nazis. The left is happy and so are the Nazis.
I am more and more convinced this is the end game.
So am I. It’s why they can’t ever admit AntiFa are also doing evil shit. If anything is better than this patriarchal, racist and sexist society, then AntiFa is doing God’s work.
It’s all about getting to Year One for these fuckers that have never gone hungry. I went hungry when I was 19 because I was a prideful child. I subsisted on apples for three weeks after I got laid off but I still went to school and somehow paid my rent.
It certainly was Hitler’s script:
1) Denounce Bismarck
2) Get support
3) Proceed like Bismarck on steroids.
Precisely! I had a close friend that was a collector. He had a theft and later a trumped-up DUI. The cops were relentless. Drive-bys with lights flashing, phone calls, door knocks. He eventually burned everything and offed himself. I discovered his body. Good times, good times…
Not so fast. I had this in the que of links I going to post:
The Nazis were shooting at the peaceful antifa in Charlottesville and Cops stood by
Please name these other white power organizations and where. That seems to be missing.
Actually the NYT article reinforces the americanthinker piece.
The crowning glory is the soundtrack. Can’t you feel the menace?
“He stressed that the city had tried to prevent the rally, but that a federal judge had ordered the city to grant the permit”
You can’t really blame the city. After all, they didn’t want to protect 1A anyways.
I saw no mention of the ACLU arguing for that decision either. That day is going to be milked for years in god knows how many articles and opinion pieces. It is a good thing the Governor of that state is beyond reproach and would never stoop to dirty political theater to the point of getting a citizen killed to make a political point that could lead to years of talking points. I am glad we don’t live in that world cuz that is some sick shit.
If your evidence of politicians having knowledge of some future attack uses Paul Ryan as an example, then you’ve definitely moved into tin foil hat territory. As for the gun control arguments, the saner explanation is that when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Ahem, “When your best tool is Paul Ryan, everything looks like Maxine Watters”. We’re fucked sideways, folks.
Paul Ryan’s tool and Maxine Waters are NOT an image I needed right before sleeping, thankyouverymuch.
I think most of us can agree that Paul Ryan is a tool.
Let’s see this allows them to undermine Trump, force the Right to purge people, set up the case for censorship, and set up the case for gun control.
Question is what can be done about?
I just heard the local news station refer to The Federalist, as a “far right” website, and that they were somehow “forced” to carry the Gorka resignation letter. Anyone who think being a ‘centrist/conservative/libertarian/Never Trumper’ is going to save them from being dumped into the Nazi pond is fooling themselves.
Trump can’t be the only one pushing back at the Overton window or it’s all over.
Yes, everyone they don’t like will be labeled a Nazi. They already think libertarians ate Nazis already. Hell if you don’t want to censor a amazing you are a Nazi.
Yes they will consider glibs to be Nazis. OMWC, Warty, Sugarfree and Heroic Mulatto will not be safe.
Does the left do anything that isn’t for political gain?
Posting ain’t easy at times like these, but I’ve been in the Hill Country juuuuuust north of San Antonio for the past 24 hours. Just wanted to let you guys know since I mentioned yesterday that I’d be leaving town. Thanks for the prayers/well-wishes/accusations of Tulpa, etc.
Good to hear. Did you bring enough beer or do we need to do an airlift?
Whatever, Tulpa.
Glad you’re Ok
Glad to see you got out of Dodge and are safe. Hope you make it back to an unflooded home.
Thanks WS, DOOM and Juvie.
Also, I call bull shit on Hill Country. There isn’t a hill unless you go 400 miles west. Still, stay safe. Where is it again your house is? Did you say Victoria?
Yeah, an apartment in Victoria. Second floor. That helps, right?
Pfft. No problemo. Unless the windows blow out.
fancy guy lives on the second floor! people can just walk onto my porch.
Stay safe Texans. Hope this storm isn’t as bad as it looks.
I know from my time living in Austin that even the remnants of a hurricane can still drop a metric shitton of rain. Even if you’re on the second floor, try to park your car on some high ground. As the pornstars say, every inch counts. I’ve seen cars in a parking lot start floating while others in the same very slightly inclined parking lot were high and dry.
And glad to hear you moved out of the area. Now if only my proggie sister and her husband were that smart. Now I’m waiting to see how fucked Houston will be. My mom offered to let them crash at her place in Allen, and they decided they didn’t want to deal with the hassle of the long drive with toddlers in the back seat.
Let’s hope we all can avoid the storm be it real or the metaphorical.
*raises last of the beer*
Prosit, motherfuckers! I can’t say enough how much I appreciate this web-site and its commentariat. It’s like a breath of fresh air after a winter storm to realize that yes, indeed, there are people out there that are just as vile and baleful as meself! Sloopy et al, I doff my top-hat to ye!
It doesn’t matter. Listen kid you don’t want to see my other side. I have a wolf inside me with a muzzle on, but the muzzle is about to come off. You broke her heart, and I will break yours. She is a nice girl, how dare you use her like this. How come people like you get to date her? Then people like me have to sit in the shadows and be the shoulders to cry on. Listen Kid, I don’t have time for FUCKING games. I am a nice guy, but when you make a nice guy angry; the world shakes. Don’t do it again.
Is this a reference to something I’m unfamiliar with, or has DOOMco gone all AC on us?
