I’m having a nostalgic moment, thinking about the wonderful Saturday morning cartoon shows when I was a kid. The local TV weather or sports guy would put on some costume (a pirate or a clown or a tramp) and run low-bid cartoons, with some really lame patter in between. Most of the cartoons were incredibly lame, though perhaps over-exposure to Little Audrey is what set me on my current sexual path in life. But about every fourth or fifth one was something wonderful, like a Tex Avery cartoon, always featuring redheads, liquor, and intense violence.
So be it with the links. Imagine that I’m wearing a clown suit. And that I’m refusing to post anything serious.
First, sad news, the old school comedians are dropping like flies. At least he had a nice revival at the end of his life, doing a terrific role on one of the funniest shows to ever grace television.
The wonderful thing about capitalism is that not all business plans are well-thought-out, and the market is a brutal ecology.
This is an injury which will prevent driving in Chicago.
And this is just icing on the cake. Or the cherry on top, you decide.
OK, instead of my usual music selection, here’s my favorite kid cartoon show host. Say “Lorenzo” to any senior citizen from Baltimore and you’ll get a knowing smile.
“The company, which had raised $120 million in funding from firms like Google Ventures and Kleiner Perkins, became enmeshed in controversy, after it was revealed that one could just squeeze its juice cartridge refills by hand and bypass the $400 machine. The company attempted to keep going by lowering the price of its juice maker, but said Friday the continuing operations was no longer feasible.”
At least you can still get a wifi salt shaker.
I think the whole juice thing is overblown . Just eat some fruit and vegetables. Anyway haw can you sell juicers without Jack LaLanne
This thing wasn’t even a juicer.
But the juice cartridges were “hackable.”
“Can be juiced without the $400 paperweight” is “hackable”?
Fruit is cheaper.
Life hacks
I remember seeing the video where someone just squeezed to juice cartidge into a glass for the same effect. What a phenomally stupid product.
I saw the same video. It didn’t even require a particularly strong person.
Exactly. They just juiced the fruit elsewhere then put it in a bag that instead of a pour spout, needed to be squeezed.
The entire attraction of the machine was from the IFL science crowd that liked high tech sounding junk with vaguely green credentials.
When i was an undergraduate engineering student, ca 2004, I knew several other fellow students that were filling out Google’s personality test/talent search form. Its purpose, I recall, was to find new talent that would be conducive to the company culture.
Just goes to show, it just goes to show you how powerful organisational hubris is. Whoever made these judgement calls with all these VC firms, were definitely stupid and/or dialing it in bigtime. The venture itself reminds me of this device from the early 2000s, the iOpener, which was a “hackable” low power consumption x86 PC, though I don’t recall if it was a hilarious $120mm mistake like this.
Reading quickly, that initially registered as "Google Vultures".

Edit Faerie to the rescue.
Yay!
Giving further proof that Mike Judge is a genius.
How do you survive success?
What?
Yeah, it’s true. And terribly sad.
I think Kim Bassinger may be the first multi-sensory experience that I remember wanting to include in my fun dining experiences.
Yum.
They don’t do Saturday morning cartoons anymore. a combination of fcc regulations and competition from cable and steaming makes it now longer profitable. Saturday mornings are now the dumping ground for fcc required educational programs.
I actually saw Saved by the Bell with the E/I bug on one of the digital sub-channels.
As if the 12 years of compulsory public schooling (or private option) weren’t enough.
When I was a sprout we couldn’t wait to get out of bed on saturday morning and sit in front of the tv, watch Scooby Doo and spill our apple jacks on the couch.
Yeah…fcc required educational programs. I bet those darned kids these days are the same only now it is programs on diversity and tofu.
God, I hate the fucking Marxists.
Same here. Early 1990s Saturday (and Sunday) cartoons were a fantastic ritual i have fond memories of. My daughter has on demand YouTube and netflix, with access to all the best cartoon content from across the world.
I view the E/I bullshit more as a bullying initiative for elected and appointed busybodies to pat themselves on the back, and more cynically to aid in re-election campaigns.
I feel like we’re kindred spirits.
Same here. Not only that, we used to get the U.S. commercials back in the 70s and 80s until Canadian content requirement kicked in!
Bureaucrats ruined the whole damn thing. It really is a shame I can’t turn the TV on and watch Dungeons and Dragons or any other cartoon. One show I liked a lot was Nightmare Ned (it was an obscure cartoon that didn’t last long but it was good).
My daughter loves cartoons but all the best ones are on specialty channels, and while the new ones are impossible to follow as they keep switching networks. I would have loved to spend a couple of hours with her watching cartoons.
On this we can all agree: The loss of cartoon Saturday hastened the fall of the West. Why do you think millennials are how they are? That’s right. They didn’t have a steady dose of CARTOONS.
Why do you think millennials are how they are? That’s right. They didn’t have a steady dose of CARTOONS.
The switch happened sometime in the middle of the millennial generation. This older millennial grew up watching Tom & Jerry, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Batman. By the time my younger brothers were born, that stuff was relegated to cable TV.
We did! The show “Recess” was my shit. And “Pokemon” and “Digimon”
Why do you think millennials are how they are? That’s right. They didn’t have a steady dose of CARTOONS.
Saturday morning cartoons were a thing for Millennials until around the late 90s and early 2000s, when cable and satellite completely overwhelmed the industry and you could have dedicated cartoon channels.
I see Boomerang still has Looney Tunes and Tom & Jerry now. I.e. the only two that matter.
Vivid memories of my mom banging her foot on the LR ceiling when we were making too much noise.
The earliest Bugs Bunny and Woody Woodpecker episodes tho. Those characters were friggin lunatics.
I was not a fan of those thirties cartoons. Too manic and usually no story.
Looney Tunes as we know it and Tom and Jerry didn’t really come about until the 1940s. I agree that 30s cartoons are an acquired taste.
I showed my kids that yesterday.
I have nerver heard them laugh so loud.
My kids are watching Looney Tunes on youtube right now.
It’s nice if you like nature shows or shows about dogs.
There is one where the hosts just go around to different parks doing cool outdoor stuff.
And Saved By The Bell, which I can only assume fulfils some kind of history requirement.
No cartoons though.
I read your comment. But after looking at your avatar all I can hear in my head is ‘multipass’.
A Multipass is the new monocle. It’s the only way these days to distinguish yourself from those who don’t own orphans.
Really? I remember it was always the big thing I looked forward to growing up. I’d wait up, eat breakfast, then turn on some Yu-Gi-Oh! Poor kids today won’t know the joy of looking forward to that anymore?
Kids haven’t had that joy for over 2 years now. The CW was the last to give up their cartoon block. While streaming does have it’s advantages, it means the kids miss out on valuable time management skills. I remember the fights with my sister as to what shows we would watch. The kids today will never know the joy of winning one of those fights.
The day that UPN stopped showing Saturday morning cartoons, I cried in a bathtub.
All I’m seeing on the networks now is infomercials and B-level sitcoms.
Fox Kids – “Eek the Cat” – wish I could get this one on DVD. Some amazingly bizarre/subversive eps for 1992 – ie. the Apocalypse Now spoof.
What a tragic loss. I loved Rocky and Bullwinkle – the best of the Cold War cartoons. And the original Space Ghost! I’m still waiting for the live-action Space Ghost movie, preferably with Patrick Warburton in the lead role. Oh, and Herculoids!
Ah, memories.
Forgot to mention Jonny Quest! Possibly the best cartoon ever.
R&B is the best cartoon ever

Good to to know some people appreciate the classics.
Speaking of violent, politically incorrect cartoons, the four year old niece has become a fast fan of old Looney Tunes.

Ot but the discussion yesterday about uni and automation got me thinking about possible alternatives to labour in a heavily automated economy. I could see the sale of votes or a form of welfare based on gaming the electoral college. If work isn’t valuable leveraging civil rights could be the new currency. a capitalist mentality in socialism of a sort. I could also see men being paid for vasectomies for the environment. I could also see an increase in propaganda efforts on other countries the Peace corps could become more like the CIA. Civil rights and influence over others would still hold value even if work is largely without value. None of this is likely but that is the kind of brave New world style distopia I could guess at based on current trends.
Sorry if that’s gibberish. Typing on a phone doesn’t lend to coherence or good formatting.
Also ubi not uni
Welp, I have a plot for the “Stanley and the ____” story I’ve been drafting partly in these comments.
To celebrate, I’m going to share another character introduction.
atomosphere is a typo or something to do with the setting?
The initial description seems a bit long and not that interesting. I would combine some of the multiple short sentences. . Also repetitions like panels covered the wall cabinets along the wall bug me for some reason
Then again I don’t think you wanted criticism.
It’s a typo.
And I always welcome feedback. I never assume I can’t improve my craft.
I admit, it bugs me too. I try to avoid using the same noun or verb in adjacent sentences, often aiming to squeeze more space between repitions. It helps that I have a deep vocabulary of synonyms.
I don’t know how I missed this one.
“Not so much, no,”
Please don’t use this construction. We reached the maximum recommended “not so much” ppm when Firefly went off the air.
It was ever on the air? It seems to me people only ever started talking about it after it was off the air, leading me to believe no one watched Firefly.
“Not so much” first reared its head on Buffy, and then became a Whedon staple over on Angel and Firefly.
As for Firefly, no, I was one of the few idiots watching it when it was on TV and then wondering where all these “muh best show evah, damn you Fox” people were when it counted.
Never saw either of those first two.
And I don’t see any reason to change the exchange over it.
“Eng was a 16-year-old student at the sex-scandal-filled James Madison High School in Midwood that earned the name “Horndog High” in 2009 after two other female teachers were caught by a janitor in an alcohol-infused tryst with a student of legal age.”
There are just too many of these stories to think it just wasn’t reported in the past. I wonder what caused this increase in female teachers having sex with their students.
Increase or increased reporting?
Traditionally school marms were unmarried women.
I’m thinking it has to be the former. It’s not as though there would not have been outlets willing to run such stories 20 – 30 years ago. Sex scandals sell papers.
Here’s a famous NY Post headline from 1983:
http://nypost.com/2015/06/09/new-york-post-editor-and-film-critic-vincent-musetto-dies-at-74/
I wonder what caused this increase in female teachers having sex with their students.
Pornhub
I’ll be in my bunk.
Doing research, of course.
I wonder what caused this increase in female teachers having sex with their students.
Might I suggest feminism? It’s a movement that, for a long time has said, “If you have a vagina, it’s all good.”. It’s said that older men with younger women is just “creepy” and male teachers with female students is “pervy”, but older women with younger men were “cougars” who should be proud of their status. Well, can we be all that surprised when some women take the arguments to their logical conclusion?
I was going to suggest it was toxic masculinity. Remember, nothing bad is ever women’s fault. Men are always to blame.
This reminds me of a story I’d read, it has to be ten, twelve years ago. A prominent feminist (she still is) wrote about how she went out and picked up a couple of drunk fratboys to have a three-way (The implication was that she would get some satisfaction in leaving them with the implied homoeroticism on their part). So, she gets back to her room and gets second thoughts. She gets it into her head that she doesn’t know that one of the fratboys isn’t a rapist. While there doesn’t appear to be anything in his described behavior to suggest that he was, she uses this a springboard to dismiss the notion of “not all men” since there are some men and blah, blah, blah blah.
At no point does she address the fact that, by her own professed standards, there was definitely, absolutely, certainly a rapist in the room that night – her. She specifically sought them out because they were drunk and she could have sex with them. By her own standards, she’s a rapist. Instead of even recognizing her own offense, she goes on an extended tirade about some hypothetical offense that neither of the guys showed any signs of committing.
As you say, nothing bad is ever women’s fault. Men are always to blame.
My guess is that the Teachers’ Union is too worried about protecting the jobs of male teachers and not worried enough about the work situation that it places female teachers into.
These poor women teachers are put in an environment awash in toxic masculinity. Is it any wonder that some of them are unable to resist the patriarchy and are taken advantage of by their male students after they have to stand up in front of the classroom and be subjected to the Male Gaze day after day?
Feminism might have something to with it, perhaps in defending it as not being wrong. Still, even if something is permitted, or even acceptable, doesn’t mean it’s desirable. Teenage boys aren’t at good anything I think women would want from a man, including sex. The cougar thing is different in that it’s 40-something women women hooking up with 20-something guys. And probably happens less often than it’s been hyped.
My guess is that, for women, like for men, they do it because its an ego boost. It gives them the chance to delude themselves that “they’re not really that old”.
Many of these teachers have been good-looking women in their twenties.
Do you really think people’s egos are about objective fact?
They aren’t. But they have much better options than teenage boys if they want a man to boost their ego.
Maybe more and more teachers in high school are now women? I’m thinking back to my yute (class of ’85) and all the teachers in elementary school were women, by Jr. High there were a lot more male teachers and by Sr. High most of the teachers were men.
Maybe more women are being hired to teach Sr. High and are thus reaping the rewards of being the person in power?
Possibly. I’m thinking the majority of High School teachers have been women for a long time though.
I saw a similar pattern (class of 2000), only with the added caveat that the high school teachers who were women were all ancient (by the standards of the student body) and not even the hormone-addled teenage mind went there with them.
Went to the whiskey shop to get a bottle of buffalo trace and the bastards were out. Picked up a bottle of Jim Beam rye just because it is the first time i saw it for sale in Romania. It is pretty unimpressive. Couple of years back there was no rye to be found in Romania, now they have Bulleit , 1776 Rye, and Hudson Manhattan Rye – which i had a tasting of during a part of a whiskey festival, which mean Bucharest is at least getting on the map if we have a brand manager for a distillery is making the trip to our backwater. Also got a bottle of Lagavulin 16 on discount, don’t think I drank any since 4 years ago
Also question for the bourbon drinkers if I were to get a bourbon from this link, which would be the best
https://www.finestore.ro/whisky/bourbon
Not all of those whiskeys are bourbon.
Sigh..
“I were to get a bourbon from this link…”
I was bothered by the people who were supposedly versed in booze making a mistake like that.
Why did the comment parser turn that back into a link when I intentionally left off the opening https:// ?
It’s Romania, most stores and bar menus put all whiskey that comes from the US ion the bourbon category
*sigh*
Well that does explain it. You’d think an EU-infected country would pay attention to the very specific legal definition of a term. Oh well.
@UCS let’s not get carried away. Champagne is important, hick moonshine from Yokelandia doesn’t meet the standard of refinement.
They also have some moonshine if that’s your thing
4 Roses – go for the higher end one. Too bad about Buffalo Trace – I really like that one.
I think the name Eagle Rare sounds cool but i don’t know if it is worth the money especially since I am a single malt drinker and only occasionally have some bourbon for variety.
The Eagle Rare is good, but here in the US, it’s cheaper then Bulleit, which makes it worth picking up. If the prices were close to the same, I’d say to try it. But it is in no way twice as good as Bulleit.
I’ll second Swiss’s suggestion, and I’d add that the Knob Creek and the Woodford Reserve are both worthy bourbons as well.
I’ll third the 4 Roses single barrel. Super nice.
Owned by the Japanese now, I believe…
I have zero problem with this personally. Same with all of the excellent Japanese automobiles that I’ve owned. The little time I’ve spent around Chevrolet/GM bigots, one of the common themes for them shitting on the Ford [Ranger] was the Mazda engine.
I should have elaborated. Four Roses was actually brought back to the market by Kirin after Seagram’s killed it (in the US). Here’s some interesting history of the brand.
It’s a good thing.
Squeeeee. Proper product lune stewardship.
Knob Creek is a nice bourbon. I think I prefer it to Woodford, honestly, although both are very drinkable.
Raise a glass to the miracles of capitalism, global trade, industrial processes, automation, and the petroleum industry. Cin cin.
I’m a Bulleit fan. I used to get Maker’s Mark as my budget “decent” bourbon but Bulleit’s replaced that for me. Their rye makes a good Manhattan.
Haven’t tried the Hudson. I’m not sure I’d be able to look my ‘bama family in the eye if I drank a whiskey made in New York.
Maker’s is still my favorite, but I don’t mix drinks. Best for the buck is Evan Williams Black

Obama’s the most expensive ex-president for taxpayers
*wanders over to Legal Insurrection*
*Dusts off comment I made in response to the same report there*
There is no rationale for spending any money on an ex-president.
No ex-president has ever been assassinated, and even if one were, it would have zero effect on the country, so they do not need ongoing secret service protection.
An ex-president no longer has official duties for the country, so there is no reason to fund offices or staff for them.
I’d even go so far as to argue they shouldn’t be given a pension.
Yeah, I never understood the lifetime secret service deal. In office, it makes sense. Out of office and political life, why?
You ever read Unintended Consequences? That’s why.
Which one? I just looked at Amazon and there are a few books with that title. (I’m guessing you mean the ones that looked like they were novels rather than textbooks or non-fiction).
Author John Ross, fiction.
It was planned to end under Clinton I believe but was reversed before it took effect.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Former_Presidents_Act
Yes, 10 years for Presidents inaugurated after 1997 but reversed in 2013 before it applied to Bush.
And if any ex-president (before the 21st century) had reasonble expection of assassination, it was Nixon…
He probably wanted his enemiess to shit or get off the pot.
I read that one of the premises behind the lavish ex-president benefits package was that it would be embarrassing to see a former president selling insurance or something.
I say fuck that. During campaign season, they want to pose next to factory workers and act like such an average Joe, but suddenly they’re too good to work a regular job and need to be supported in idleness by the taxpayers? To hell with them. They get $400,000 a year for four to eight years, and I’m pretty sure they didn’t pay for their own rent, utilities, health insurance, or groceries during that time. If they didn’t save for their retirement like everyone else, that’s their own damn fault.
And if they feel like someone might be trying to assassinate them, they should hire private security and/or go down to the police station and file a report.
But it’s not embarrassing to get paid for speeches for pay from dictators to influence US State Dept?
After Obama, I’m starting to think we should use all the money for his stupid fucking library to build an island prison, maybe on St. Helena, and send all the old presidents there to die without interfering with us ever again.
I agree with your idea. However, I think a scenic location like St. Helena is too lavish. I propose one of those “islands” that’s basically just a sandbar at low tide.
Good news Mr. Obama, we’re exiling you to Hawaii for the rest of your days.
Bad new Mr. Obama, you will be exiled to Kahoolawee.
Out of all his millions of sycophantic worshippers, he can’t form a private personal security detail?
Security?
I think he meant “muscle” Tundra.
Muscle?
So hazelnut season is starting which will be bad for my waistline. Nothing like fresh picked shell on hazelnuts. Crack em open and eat them, not like the dry ones you get year round. Even worse, most are toasted. My uncle has a tree and I just picked some fresh ones.
Jealous.
I have tried growing those here. They dont do well. I have tried English walnut, hazelnut, macadamia and Brazil nut.
*sigh*
The soil here is brutal. It seems that whatever fungi and insects are here kill nearly non-native nut trees so we are stuck with pecan, hickory and black walnut. Hell, we even imported some fungus that killed our native chestnuts.
We have a prolific hickory nut tree. Unfortunately, we also have pro-active squirrels, so we rarely get anything from it. It is fun, though, to watch them rain down shells on our dog’s head when she has them treed and she’s underneath barking furiously at them.
You aren’t doing it right. Squirrels are lazy bastards and hickory nuts are tough to crack. Put out a little food for them, say…sunflower seeds…and they will leave the hickory nuts alone. Then you can get a hammer and a pair of tweezers and have some for yourself.
It may take you a week to pick out enough meat but hickory nut is amazingly delicious. Try making a nut bread with them. You wont be sorry.
Then you can get a hammer and a pair of tweezers and have some for yourself.
Given that you’re a Louisianian, I first thought you meant the squirrels.
Hey, squirrel goes great in a pasta sauce. Squirrel Bolognaise
“Rocky & Bolognaise”
In 2013, world production of hazelnuts (in shells) was 858,697 tonnes, with 64% of this total produced by Turkey (table).[9] Other major producers were Italy, the United States, Georgia, and Azerbaijan.
In the United States, Oregon accounted for 99% of the nation’s production in 2014
You could move to Oregon
Oregon is certainly known for its nuts.
Oregon has enough nuts, thank you. And they’re filberts no matter what anyone says.
Mmm, Nutella.
I love the communists had good intentions idiots

Lawl.
Right up there with ‘they didn’t do communism right’ excuse.
That chick is a monument of stupid. She would make a good handicapper general though.
I keep trying to get my wife to read Harrison Bergeron (not that she needs to be convinced, it is just creepy how accurate it is about the mindset of some). But she apparently hates Kurt Vonnegut, I should have never told her who wrote it.
I read that story in (public, unionized city) school about 20 years ago, doubt they’d present that material these days. I never thought anyone could continue to have such a mindset after reading the book, but I was terribly wrong.
I guess it all goes back to the fiction that communists have ‘a good idea in theory that doesn’t work in practice’ or some variation thereof.
Even though that’s bullshit, I’ve never understood how it’s supposed to be a favorable point for Marxism anyway. “It’s not evil, it’s just completely impractical and unimplementable navel gazing”.
Because it means they made all those gulags for the good of the people, and not because they’re evil, like Nazis are.
Even in theory, it still amounts to the slavery of all to all. No. That isn’t good. Not even in theory.
A great deal of people have an extremely shallow sense of morality where intentions matter more than actions. So they absolve the communists of their horrific acts because they were trying to ‘do good’, rather than recognize the act itself as the problem.
The concept of the material dialectic itself applied to the end goal of an amorphous utopia is total fucking self-slapping, hair-pulling, window-pounding, insanity right up there with the Heavens Gate cult, full stop. This bimbo just fancies heavy-handed capital redistribution mostly because feelz.
You’re just not capable of comparing ideas properly, Pomp.
If he employed the Hegelian dialectic, he would understand.
synthesise the demons
I think some people think that small, insular societies (like tribal groups or the Amish) often share things and work together, therefore this concept can be expanded to the nation-state level. Yes, these societies are not properly socialist and actually do have private ownership, trade, and currency, but I digress.
I always try to tell these people that there are two requirements for socialism to work:
1) A very small number of people who have an aversion to screwing each other over. If you live in a village of ~100 people that is constantly threatened by forces of nature as well as hostile neighboring tribes, yes, it’s possible for everyone to feel a strong sense of communal duty towards one another. But in numbers larger than that, the group will be fractured and this sense of duty breaks down. This is amplified if there are shitheel politicians telling one group of people that this other group over here is responsible for all their problems.
2) A means of expelling loafers. Tribal societies generally do not tolerate people who just don’t want to work or complain about wampum inequality. These societies often kill their elderly or injured people or otherwise abandon them to die.
Even if you recreate those two conditions, it doesn’t mean it’s going to work out. That’s why these hippie communes quickly devolved into havens for the lazy and shiftless.
You can just have a means of forcing loafers to work. But then everyone may not be making all the things people need. So you need a means of making people work on the things people need. But then you need a way to determine what people need. So you need a strong leader to decide what needs to be made, and then have the power to force others to labor for it.
Yeah I don’t know why socialism keeps coming up authoritarian. Almost like it’s a necessary condition.
Hey, if it’s Hegelian in nature then at least it’s an ethos.
It’s true. Fascism was all about genociding other people. Communism was all about genociding your own people.
“I don’t want to start cannibalizing my forthcoming book, but the simple fact is that most of these ideological rationalizations for why Antifa is so very different from the alt-right or “fascists” are morally obtuse distractions. Sure, the ideological arguments invoked by Antifa and the alt-right are different. Fine. Also, who cares? Let’s say for the sake of argument Antifa is “better” than the alt-right? Congrats! You’ve established that you’re better than Nazis. Good for you. The relevant question is whether Antifa’s behavior is morally or legally justifiable and the obvious answer is “Of course not.”
But as Irving Kristol once said, “When we lack the will to see things as they really are, there is nothing so mystifying as the obvious.” And so supposedly serious people expend enormous energy trying to explain why their pet goon squads are morally superior to other goon squads.”
http://www.nationalreview.com/article/451040/antifa-alt-right-idiot-boys-young-men-pulling-stupid-crap
Anyone who genuinely can’t see a moral difference between communism and fascism as conceptual ideas is terrifying to me btw
Sure, “The Jews are evil and have to be liquidated for the good of society” is the height of evil and monstrous viciousness. But, “The Bourgeoisie are evil and have to be liquidated for the good of society” is just the epitome of love, kindness and decency.
Notice the common thread: expunge the subcultures that were the most effective in managing and growing capital assets.
Exactly. I think what she was saying is that since communism’s stated goals were for everyone to be equal than as a “conceptual idea” it was just fine.
Of course, the fact that it’s never been implemented anyway without millions dying means treating it as just a “conceptual idea” is stupid.
Exactly. I think what she was saying is that since communism’s stated goals were for everyone to be equal than as a “conceptual idea” it was just fine.
Except the liquidation of the bourgeoisie is part of the “conceptual idea” of communism. It wasn’t some incidental thing that came up as a matter of perceived practical necessity. It was and is part and parcel of what communism advocates. This imbecile is trying to dance around that fact by conflating goals with conceptual ideas. But, that doesn’t really cut it. I’m sure if you ask a true believing Nazi or a fascist what their goals are, they’ll also come up with some noble-sounding horse shit about the “brotherhood of society”, “social harmony” , and “everyone pulling together for the common good”. Of course, their “conceptual idea” to achieve this goal entails mass murder and the crushing of the individual into a soulless, immoral automaton. But, the same no less applies to communism.
Strictly speaking, the “liquidation of the bourgeoisie” doesn’t have to result in their deaths. You could in theory deprive the bourgeois of their assets and then they’d be left with nothing but to be members of the proletariat.
But it always does end in death because the promised gains from liquidating the assets never materialize. The fundamental failing of communism from an economic rather than moral perspective is that it fails to recognize the value of capital. Most members of the bourgeoisie have at least some unique knowledge and experience that doesn’t get transfer as easily as things and money do. It’s how they got to be or stay bourgeois in the first place.
People draw this line between the Nazis and the communists because they say “the Nazis always intended to eliminate the Jews” but “the Communists had no choice but to eliminate the Kulaks”. In reality, the inner circle of both groups always intended to kill off their respective scapegoats, but they lied to everyone else until they had absolute power and nobody could stop them any more. This is perhaps the most clear-cut case of moral equivalence that exists, but it is extremely inconvenient for communists.
“But it always does end in death because the promised gains from liquidating the assets never materialize. …knowledge and experience that doesn’t get transfer as easily as things and money do. …”
aka killing the Golden Goose.
Strictly speaking, the “liquidation of the bourgeoisie” doesn’t have to result in their deaths…. People draw this line between the Nazis and the communists because they say “the Nazis always intended to eliminate the Jews”
And our hypothetical idealistic Nazi could always respond that eliminating the Jews could have or should have meant removing them to their own separate ethnostate. It would still be just as much bullshit as the communists’ claim that they didn’t mean mass murder.
The truth of the matter is exactly what you said: This is perhaps the most clear-cut case of moral equivalence that exists.
Communism = international socialism.
Fascism = national socialism.
Totes diff, brah.
And even that distinction is mostly meaningless. Both forms were expansionist and nationalistic in practice.
Data Reveals the Number of Sexual Partners the Average American Has – and You May Be Surprised
Interesting- do kids count a full “1” or do they only rate “1/2” because of their size? Hypothetically, of course, right?
Howard Stern breaks it down
I would say kids count for 3/5s.
I thought that was blacks?
So black kids are 3/10?
0.36
2000 people? I’m not familiar with how to go about doing a survey but that sounds like a rather small sample size if you ask me.
For basic statistical tests 2000 is plenty to get a pretty good confidence interval. Of course that just depends on the natural variation of the data too.
Also depends how the population is chosen. I can give you a statistically significant sample population of 1000 to give you whatever answer you desire.
As usual, Yes Minister can explain it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0ZZJXw4MTA
Who signed up to answer this survey?
Loose bitches and himbos.
Am I the only one who finds this disgusting?
Sorry to go all SoCon on everyone here, but I honestly think it is kind of gross, and in what way is the ideal number of sexual partners 7?
Now I’ll go on and answer my own question: Latina, Black, Indian (dot), Indian (feather), White, Asian, Middle-eastern.
Yeah, how exactly is 7(.5?) an “ideal” number of partners? Isn’t the real ideal 1? “(S)he’s only ever slept with me, and I’ll be the only one for whom that’s true.”
Maybe after the number (s)he knows her way around a (pussy)dick
You know the old saying. If a girl says she slept with 7 guys it means 21.
Or something.
So the real ideal number is 21 for women, and 2 for guys?
Something like that. Ask the nerds around here for the proper calculus.
No, you are not alone (see my dismay and inquiry about who they were asking, above)
My other question is what constitutes a “sexual partner”? Blowjob? Handjob? Finger fuck? Butt sex? Or only PIV?
Yes, you are the only one who finds this disgusting.
I am confused. 7.5 is ideal…is that per week? Month? How does that break down exactly?
I was laughing too hard to read that closely. In college I dated an average of 8 women at any given time. It was exhausting. I also noticed, as Rufus points out above, women aren’t very good at math. Whatever number she gives you can safely move the decimal point one place to the right.
Was this survey given exclusively to liars? That’s what I am getting out of it.
-1 WILT
Am I the only one who finds this disgusting?
Sorry to go all SoCon on everyone here, but I honestly think it is kind of gross, and in what way is the ideal number of sexual partners 7?
No, you’re not the only one. 7 would’ve been well within dealbreaker territory for me.
There are two different cultures out there. One is the “sex is playtime for adults” culture. The other is the “sex is for committed relationships (ideally marriage)” culture. I’m firmly in the latter camp. Even when I was agnostic, I was still in the latter camp.
I’m a total nonbeliever, and I feel like I’m the only one who isn’t on board with this “sex = playtime for adults” thing.
I’ve been told that I’m a misogynist for having an aversion to extremely slutty women. It usually involves accusations that I “want to oppress women” or something. But I’m not out to dictate morals to everyone else; I’m sure some people live hyper-promiscuous lifestyles and it works out just fine for them. But I avoid sluts mainly because they tend to bring a lot of drama into my life. Also, in my experience, they cheat at the drop of a hat because they have no impulse control when it comes to sex.
The disease risk is also a factor. The more sexual partners someone has had, the more likely they are to catch a disease. It’s simple probability. So I don’t get why people act like I’m irrational for wanting to avoid uncurable and sometimes deadly diseases.
STEVE SMITH ALWAYS WILLING TO DEMONSTRATE OPPRESSION
Here’s a little secret – Despite the efforts of anti-traditionalism to sell promiscuity, they have only created the illusion that participation or acceptance is the default. It’s part of the same charade where the illusion was “everyone is a default prog on all issues and only a few filthy outliers disagree”.
This right here , 29 years and counting for Wendy and Me
Does it count if you pay or are paid for it? I would say no as it removes the conquest aspect of the thing.
Women answered 15.2 while men said 14; both, however, closely agreed on the “ideal number” of partners for someone to have in their lifetime at 7.5 (women) and 7.5 (men). – weirdly specific numbers
Averages – probably the mean, rather than the median or the mode.
Mentioning the mode made me wonder – what were the outliers?
Did they actually get about 33% answering something like 2 or 3, but a handful who said 500 and skewed the results so that the median or the mode would be more reasonable than the mean?
Given that the minimum is 0, any skew would skew high, as the bottom of the data set can’t go very far.
Very fair point. But I still wouldn’t be surprised if a fair amount of the responders to this survey are what Pomp said above, loose, promiscuous people. We are several decades past the “Sexual Revolution” sadly. A lot of people don’t view sleeping around as any big deal anymore. Which is why we got that story about STDs becoming resistant to treatments a while back.
Then again you always pay for it one way or another
Sounds like you need to do more “research”.
.5 is a strange designation for midgets.
Sorry, I’m not interested in being friends with midgets, midgets piss me off
0.5 is where only the tip gets to go in, like when you’re trying to be considerate about not filling your friend’s Jacuzzi filter with ejaculate.
I thought this was the one freebie for a dead hooker.
STEVE SMITH USED TO KEEP TRACK WITH NOTCHES ON HIS FAVORITE FALLEN TREE, BUT RAN OUT OF TREE. LOST COUNT MANY MOONS AGO!
Get ready for a sermon, not just a thought.
Major problems:
1) Self-selection bias
2) Social desirability bias
3) No mention of methodology (how was the survey conducted? online? in person? what’s the parent population? nursing home residents? porn stars?)
IOW, the data is useless.
Now onto the sermon. Doing studies like these is notoriously difficult for all the reasons listed above; though to be fair, many “social science” studies suffer from the same problems. Namely, the things that social science is most interested in tend to be controversial and sensitive subjects, eg: drug use, sexual behavior, drinking/eating habits. Therefore, I’m extremely skeptical of any study stating some “ideal” when it comes to the number of sexual partners. The survey designer almost always has some kind of axe to grind. For instance, the National Marriage Project, an institute at the University of Denver that has a thinly veiled mission to promote lifelong, hetero marriage periodically comes out with studies saying that having numerous premarital sexual partners will lead to unhappiness and raises your chance of divorce. Conversely, organizations focused on sexual libertinism will periodically come out with studies saying that free love and polyamory/swinging lead to happier people and happier partnerships. Basically, I think you can find whatever you want in the data.
Bigger question and how it might apply to libertarianism, and what I think all these studies are dancing around; was the sexual revolution positive or negative? I think it’s pretty safe to say that it’s not unambiguously good or bad. Just like almost any sea change in attitude, YMMV. Looking strictly at empirical data from a macro level, I’d say that one-on-one, stable marriage for the purpose of raising children, on average produces a more stable and productive society. HOWEVER, as a libertarian, I’m inclined to say that what produces a stable, productive society is the absolute wrong measuring stick; what produces the most fulfilled individual is paramount. In that case, the sexual revolution was good because it empowered individuals to make more choices about where they put their genitals. Still, has it produced happier individuals overall? Maybe, maybe not. Again, that’s not really the issue here. More freedom does not necessarily guarantee more happiness, otherwise we’d be utilitarian douchenozzles. My personal feeling is that “free love” is a utopian ideal that makes promises it can’t possibly keep and eventually leads to misery. The key is for each individual to assess what their personal goals and comfort levels are and make their choices accordingly. Whether you want to wait until marriage or fuck your way to 5 digits the important thing is to accept responsibility for those choices. The question of “how many partners is ideal?” is meaningless; it’s like asking how many square feet of lawn is ideal, for some it may be zero, for some it may be 1000 acres. Basically who cares and get off my (ideally sized) lawn.
I don’t get how “empowering people to make more choices where they put their genitals” has any any meaning whatsoever. People fucked who they wanted before, it just wasn’t celebrated. It’s even not clear that shoving your dick in anything or everything leads to fulfillment at all.
So on one side you have some measurably bad outcomes with single mothers skyrocketing and the state growing exponentially to foot the bill and on the other side you have some unsubstantiated vague statement about “fulfillment.”
Looks like a clear case of bad to me.
I’d argue that the ability to live as an out gay person has a pretty measurable positive effect. I’m not talking pride parade, Nazi wedding cake, “accept me or suffer the consequences!”-type stuff; I’m just talking the ability to cohabit with a same-sex partner and just go about your daily life without having to live a secret existence. The real problem (as it always does) comes with the state coercion that accompanies these changes; as you mentioned the state footing the bill for single motherhood and the aforementioned Nazi wedding cakes. But both of those scenarios directly contradict my thesis that the individual must accept responsibility for their own choices. I know that’s not how our society currently functions, but it would, IMO, be the ideal.
This. Just because there is a bad outcome from freedom doesn’t mean that we need less freedom to prevent the bad outcomes. In the case of a spike in single mothers, the problem is a lack of personal responsibility which is reenforced by a state safety net. Rolling back the sexual revolution isn’t a solution to this problem – more personal responsibility and not being shielded from the effects of your bad decisions is.
However, my own personal libertarianism says that more freedom (and not harming others) is the desirable outcome, not necessarily being happier, healthier or wealthier (but its nice that these things generally track together).
How is single mothers skyrocketing an increase in freedom? This is like some Marxist bullshit where freedom is defined as not having responsibility.
There was no freedom gained here, only lost. There’s no trade off of more freedom only a loss of it.
The question isn’t whether legality is positive it’s whether cultural acceptance (celebration) is positive. Single motherhood wasn’t illegal, it just was considered a poor habit do people avoided behaviors that contributed to it because being accepted socially still holds weight. Now it’s empowering, and you certainly can’t suggest a woman’s promiscuity has bad consequences.
As far as gays go I fail to see how celebration of their life has any meaning whatsoever. But I don’t particularly think being celebrated for the aspect of making people feel good about being celebrated is meaningful. The only outside outcome from this change has been to consolidate gays into a voting block for big government and further erode freedom of association.
Let’s not ignore non-libertarian things such as laws and social programs that increased the incentives of single motherhood.
Surveys are crap. They are nothing but a tally of hearsay.
Retarded now comes in tubes.

OK, fair enough.
yeah, its actually ‘cute snark’, but you have to be steeped in the whole batshit SJW ‘white is the root of all evil’-code-language first for it to make any sense.

This.
I wonder what Frederick Douglass would say?
I’m going to guess at least one person said, “ARE YOU FUCKING RETARDED?” and then everyone got mad at them for not being more considerate of the triggered person’s feelings.

I hope it involves merciless heckling. Other wise, they’re doing it incorrectly.
I have been thinking about Monopoly. Even before watching Comrade Detective. Monopoly as a metaphor, or a template, for thinking about people and capitalism. If I could sit still and focus long enough, I’d try to arrange my thoughts coherently.
A long time ago, I hatched a theory that one should play Monopoly with a prospective mate in order to learn how they think about money and investment. It’s an imperfect test, to say the least, but I remember playing with one of my former girlfriends, and it horrified me. She never had more than two bucks in front of her. She spent everything immediately. I was appalled. If I had broken up with her then and there, I might have been spared a terrific amount of aggravation and disappointment. But enough about that.
And then, as I was thinking about the Universal Income discussion from yesterday, in particular the part about how (according to the mumbo jumbo equations) bigger is always better, especially if the money is pulled out of a magic hat, rather than taken from one part of the economy and shifted to another, I attained a tiny moment of clarity.
The guys who puked up that “study” about the Universal Income, and the Fight for Fifteen idiots are the same kids who think they can cheat their way to winning at Monopoly by sneaking money from another game onto the board.
I’ve been thinking recently how fun it would be to see a large national contingent of folks that only show up to Congressional town hall gatherings with the exact same question template: “Considering that spending and interest payments are in excess of GDP and you folks in DC have accumulated a $20T for us, what meaningful spending cuts are you proposing this year?
If I can’t have the Race Car I’m not gonna play
I always used the top hat. I guess I was a libertarian before I knew I was one.
There are much better economic games out there. You can learn a lot by someone by watching how they bid in Modern Art or Medici, or how well they run things in Power Grid. Although you do need at least three for all of those games…
No problem, just bring in both (or more) of your girlfriends.
“Ladies, this is an audition. The winner gets *this*. Oh yeah!” [Duffman groin thrust]
My complaint about monopoly is that it is premised on a fixed pie.
Bingo. It is, however, a marvelous primer in economic fallacies. So, you know, there’s that.

Reposting from last night
TW: Nut punch of the day
RE: the nurse arrested for refusing to allow the cops take a blood sample of an unconscious patient. it is my understanding that the Cops were there because of a Fatal accident the involving the Cops, a suspect (the fatality) and a third party (the unconscious patient). The cops wanted to take the blood sample to pin the crash on the third party so as to protect themselves from blame in the death of the suspect.
It’s the only explanation that makes sense. Disgusting.
As I said last night, not just a blood sample of unconscious person but performing a medically unnecessary procedure (drawing blood) from an unconscious burn patient. It not just like the guy hit his head and blacked out either. Burns are serious condition and do something medically unnecessary that could lead to further harm or even death of the patient is reckless indifference at best.

Porn could be an influence.
Surveys are still crap.
I’ve seen parts of this story making the rounds – specifically, the quote at the beginning. But I suspect the larger tale remains largely unknown to those of us locals who get their news from the MSM.
Astonishing.
Garaufis, whose own biases at one point caused him to be removed by an appellate court from the fact-finding aspect of the case, nevertheless retained standing to declare the FDNY “a stubborn bastion of white male privilege.”
There ya go. You need another reason to leave NY?
The largest fire burning right now is the giant money pit. No interest from anyone in extinguishing that massive conflagration.
We can smother flames by pouring more dollars in!
So they have to pay $129M to people who tried to become fireman and failed?
According to Planned Parenthood, about 27 out of 100 women will get pregnant when her partner uses the “pull out” method as birth control. Comparatively, only about nine out of every 100 women on a contraceptive pill will become pregnant in a year.
What’s the percentage of women that claim they are on the pill but are are lying their asses off?
That never happens. And it’s a woman’s prerogative, however skipping a condom off without your partners knowledge is rape.
*Note I think sneaking your condom off is a bad thing. But there’s no calls for classifying a woman falsely claiming to be on birth control as rape.
If you have to ask, then just consider the answer 100%
It says right there, 9 out of 100.
A friend of mine in college was in a serious monogamous relationship. He came to me once, terrified, and told me little miss sweetie was pregnant. He couldn’t understand how that happened because she was on the pill. He thought his life was ruined as he would have to marry her, get a job and drop out of college.
I suggested that he tell her he couldn’t be the father, that he had some spermal defect. Little miss monogamous sweetie pie went and told some other sucker he was the father and a month later they were married and both out of school.
*I should have gone easier on the guy. I think because of that experience he is so cynical about women that he never married.
Reminds me of this classic tale:

Desperate for content
Through it all, of course, Mr. Trump chose to treat politics as a reality show, a genre spawned in 1992 with MTV’s “The Real World.” And thanks to his own TV franchise, “The Apprentice,” he proved to have a fanatical following, putting him in the same league as the Kardashians and Kanye West; the “Duck Dynasty” crew and the die-hards of pro wrestling, many of whose matches he had hosted in the ’90s. The Trump Show, in the end, was “Survivor”; in contrast, Hillary Clinton’s outreach efforts felt like a PBS fund drive.
——-
As if by some universal law of media physics, then, the Naughty Nineties have imploded to become the Tawdry Teens. All truth is malleable and all secrets are exposed, as a nation watches compulsively, which is how we watch reality TV.
Somehow there is a cold karma to it all.
True, Mr. Trump lost the popular vote. But America has received what much of the nation had been asking for since the 1990s. In the electoral reckoning, civility had been trumped by hostility, respect by chauvinism, tolerance by bigotry, truth by fabrication and deceit, privacy by exposure, modesty by exhibitionism, achievement by fame, shame by shamelessness, and bridges by walls.
Boo hoo hoo, the coarsening of civilization is relentless. Vanity Fair prissypants yearns for the days of Ike and Edward R Murrow.
*”Hillary Clinton’s outreach efforts felt like a PBS fund drive.” Tedious? Annoying?
They always have this tone of:
“See what everyone else but us did? See the ickys? GOD, THE UNWASHED DISGUST US. ”
Elitists. They’re as responsible as anyone for “where we are as a country right now”
I doubt Trump’s TV following equates to his political following. Especially since one is so much larger than the other.
But more importantly I remember his show and watching it as a democrat was approved. Trump has been a bit of a celebrity for 30 years and he was never considered a racist, anti-Semite NAZI by anyone until he decided to challenge herself. If anything he was one of NYs celebrated characters so his audience probably leaned blue.
Civility, respect, tolerance, truth, privacy, modesty, achievement, shame, bridges. Yes, all of those words describe the political class pre-Trump. They sure do. They certainly aren’t shameless crooks who accomplish nothing and hold the electorate in contempt.
I guess up is down in progland.
GODDAMMIT
You can’t even reply to your own post? You rebel against the system that much?
If he started replying to himself, others would expect him to start replying to them.
We are principled ’round here.
The premise of that article is preposterous. Hillary was way more of a 90’s throwback than Trump.
Sorry Mike S, you waited too long to visit. Now we will have to find a new place to drink.
What a bunch of fucking pussies. A group of men? Spitting on a woman? Real bad asses.
I’m sure they feel they’re completely in the right. Anybody working in a bar whose absentee owner once donated money to someone bad (and this is one of the rare cases where the person’s an actual white nationalist) and who had absolutely no clue about that obscure donation a couple of decades ago is clearly a Nazi.
Well regardless, Nazis aren’t people so they were really spitting on a subhuman.
By Wednesday, the bar was desolate except for a few people who hadn’t heard about DeRoma’s donation and a half dozen white supremacists who made racist comments and harassed employees.
Sounds like a perfect place for a glib meet up.
Mike S wanted to visit there when he visited Minnesoda in a few weeks. I suspect he – being a NoDak – wanted to feel at home someplace surrounded by ultra-white folk.
“surrounded by Nazis”
FIFY.
“engulfed by Nazis”
FIFY.
A group of men? Spitting on a woman?
See the “pull out” link above.
More bukkake, but same genre.
I guess all the workers who walked out will quickly find a woke bar to work at. Me, I wouldn’t hire a one of them.
They left too soon. I have it on good authority that the owner was just about to roll out a new perk for the racially and sexually diverse staff.
The scuttlebutt was that the owner was going to put in special showers for the staff next month. That way when they got off the light rail station nearby they could freshen up before their shift.
Go on…
Sorry that is all I have heard. So far none of the employees who tried the showers out have called back and commented on how they liked it.
“A group of men followed one employee on the street, calling her a Nazi lover and then spit on her, he said.”
Next up, holding her down and shaving her head.
Assholes.
It’s stories like this that reminds me that humans are emotional, stupid creatures.
As much as I want the Antifa-Nazi violence to stop, I would fucking love to see the moment when one of these Antifa dipshits gets sent to prison for seriously hurting someone and gets the chance to meet some real Nazis. “Bash the fash”, right??
Especially since most of them seem like they would be in urgent need to join the Aryan Brotherhood in prison to protect themselves against the other unwoke minorities there.
Fuck you, you fucking pussy. Davis Duke is a powerless little attention whore. Hey! Just like you, bitch!
I hate people.
Well, except you people.
“directly affected by the actions of David Duke”
How, exactly? By the fact that he exists and has wrongthink thoughts in his evil brain?
“Well, except you people”
Looks like we need to step it up
“The bar’s staff was a diverse group racially and sexually”
But the owner is Nazi?
Something seems amiss here. I’m wondering if there is more to the original Duke contribution story that we’re not hearing.
Maybe David Duke Nazis are pragmatic enough to accept a bunch of colored folks and queers as employees if they work hard and make them a buck?
That would actually make them more accepting, than the left.
In what way exactly are these people affected by the actions of David Duke?
What a bunch of horseshit.
Well, except you people.
YOU PEOPLE!?!?
A group of men followed one employee on the street, calling her a Nazi lover and then spit on her, he said.
Is there a Go-Fund-Me page to donate to buying her a .45 and shooting lessons?
You know what? For years everybody knew the dude who owns Club Jager was like this. It’s why I wouldn’t perform at or patronize the place. But now that there’s “proof” out there everyone is “shocked SHOCKED!” Fuck em! They took the paychecks and looked the other way. Jake Rudh has been making bank DJing there for years. Now he’s horrified? And fuck those self-righteous dicks for spitting on a women. Sometimes the people in this city bug the shit out of me.
East coast glibs, start watching Hurricane Irma. Pretty decent chance this is coming towards the east coast of the US, anywhere from here up to Massachusetts.
Where, exactly, is “here” in the context of your warning?
Hopefully “Rhode Island”.
South Florida.
Ouch.
That’s a pretty wide band.
I’m going to predict – Landfall in North Carolina.

(insert comment here about climate modeling and how we should trust it completely)
Well of course it’s easier to predict what the climate will do for the next century than where the hurricane is going to move.
We can recon the climate data.
I cant get an accurate 12 hour rain forecast.
i think predicting if any particular spot you’re going to be in today will receive rain might be asking too much.
Gaia is hitting those Trump Nazis hard!
The “progressives” being all giddy over the hurricane reminds me of something…
There was this hardcore Baptist kid who used to sit next to me on the bus every day and try to convert me. One of the “proofs” he brought up for his particular deity was this: “There was an earthquake that hit Los Angeles one time, and the epicenter was a studio where some of the most explicit porno movies were produced!”
“Progressives” pride themselves on being rational and sciencey, but they still seem to buy into this mystical thinking when they believe that a weather event is just punishment for people who voted for Trump.
That cause progressivism is a religion.
We don’t need the rain, so hopefully it goes somewhere more useful.
You rebel against the system that much?

Employees were incensed when they learned about the owner’s donation to Duke, and the decision to close the business was made by those who ran it, not the owner, they said.

A few employees immediately walked off the job when they learned about DeRoma’s donation. Others stayed because they had families to feed, Callahan said.
Oh, noes, wage slavery. Why isn’t there a GoFundMe to allow these people to parade their moral superiority before the Tribe and still pay their rent?
Something about cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face…
Earlier stories did mention some fund being set up to help the employees cover costs.
“Unlike regular microaggressions, which require at least two parties for them to occur, invisibility microaggressions only needs for one person to feel invisible in an environment. A lone black person among a sea of white faces could qualify as one of these invisibility microaggressions — especially if he or she isn’t singled out for being black. But if that happens, then it can possibly be a macroaggression”

How bout this for a microaggression. Most people don’t give a flying f*** about how every certain situation of reality could hurt your feelings. Buck up buttercup.
Ugh, it reminds me of when we had to read Invisible Man in high school.
Your feelings only matter in that hollow chasm between your ears! Nobody cares if you feel invisible. That’s between you and your therapist.
What if you felt microaggressed against, and nobody gave a shit?
If a tree falls in the forest…
You’d be like people 100 years ago, you’d say to yourself “man, that guy is an asshole”. Then you’d put it out of your mind and get on with your life.

I can’t seen to find the original article.
How about, “Forgive us our microaggressions, as we forgive those who microaggress against us.”?
On second thought, that’ll never work.

I do find it funny that the dailyfail treats these women as semi-scandalous for only banging their husbands. 19th century bourgeois values are the new punk rock.
Get me fired from Google, but I think traditional gender roles and social norms emerged as a result of male and female brains being wired differently, and people who choose to follow them end up with happier, more fullfilling lives. There is range for which this holds ture, and some individual deviation, but when you try to pretend that these outliers are the norm and push people to conform to what they inwardly find to be abnormal, you end up with a lot of miserable people.
SP says my brain is wired differently from hers, not because she’s female, but because she’s human.
I thought it was because you’re one of (((us)))?
At my new job, one of the team leads sent out a little motivational email and wrote “(((good vibes))) to everyone!” I had to strain every muscle in my body to hold back the laughter… Because there’s just no explaining that one.

I tend to agree with you. In reality, IDGAF what people do with their squishy bits as long as what they’re doing is in service to their own pursuit of happiness and they accept responsibility for the outcome. IE: if you fuck half of North America and get herpesyphiliaids, don’t expect the tax payer to cover your treatment and don’t expect welfare to support your 9 kids fathered by 7 different dudes.
I think it’s obviously true that gender norm that cross cultures exist because the underlying gender differences expressed that way despite any cultures desire to make it so. Which is about as revolutionary as saying product A exists because people want to buy it. Call it the market of gender.
Which is one reason the socially liberal fiscally conservative label always bothered me. Denying markets is denying human nature, but somehow denying gender and sexual norms isn’t.
Traditional roles and mores developed because they work. The goal of social marxism is to create dysfunction. If enough people are dysfunctional, that is cant solve problems or accomplish anything, then society ceases to function and people are unable to defend themselves.
So, there’s an election in New Zealand in a couple of weeks. The two main parties National (conservative-ish in a NZ sense) and Labour both have new leaders. The former National Prime Minister retired and his deputy became leader earlier this year. Nationals had a big lead in the poll so Labour decided to go the “young, hip” route. They dumped their leader and the new leader is a photogenic 37 yo woman. Three weeks after taking over the leadership, Labour now leads in the polls. A lot of their gains are people leaving the Green Party and saying they’re voting Labour – but not all. The point here is that Labour has not changed many of their policies but their new leader is so cool she may win the election.

An elementary school in Bethesda, Maryland has barred students and staff from wearing any article clothing with the Washington Redskins team name and/or logo on it.
The private Green Acres School sent home a letter to parents which said “the term ‘Redskin’ is a racial slur. Its use, whether intentional or not, can be deeply insulting and offensive.”
According to USA Today, head of school Neal M. Brown said third graders raised the issue last year while studying Native Americans. A Native family with a student at Green Acres had objected to the NFL team’s clothing.
“We certainly don’t want to vilify anyone who comes to school in violation of this,” Brown said. “Ultimately, most kids won’t wear that kind of clothing because they understand why it is upsetting to some people.”
***
Is this a private or a public school?
The response should be for everyone to take offense to every logo there is. Then when they only allow unmarked shirts, people need to complain about the colors they choose. (Red is the color of racist states, blue is a popular retail color and capitalism is bad, yellow is what racists used to call Asians, green is the color of money, etc) Next, when they go to neutrals, complain that white shirts are racist, grey is the Confederacy color, and black is the color of pirate flags and my father/uncle/brother was killed at sea by Somali pirates. Complain about literally everything.
What’s the endgame in the offense industry if everything can be complained about?
Harrison Bergeron.
Yes, i’m sure it was a “Native Family” in bethesda md, and not some SJW housewife who programmed their kid to go “THAS RACISS”
Do a lot of people in maryland wear sports gear celebrating teams from washington state?
The Redskins are Washington DC, and yes, the area around DC has a large split between Ravens and Redskins fans.
I have no opinion on kid Rock, but this is funny.
I hope he runs and wins. In what way is he violating campaign finance law?
And, he’s drinking Vernors! I’ll vote for him.

Sept. 1 (UPI) — A Minnesota resident taking their dog for a morning walk captured video of an unusual sight: Thousands of caterpillars formed into one large mass.
The video, captured Sunday on a road in Northfield, shows what appears to be a massive worm slithering across the asphalt until a closer look reveals it to be thousands of caterpillars swarming together to move as one.

Caterpillar orgy?
What? It is Homecoming week for St. Olaf already?
I didn’t thing the proggie freshmen there would be having their parade so soon.
Not how I pictured Minne’s destruction, but at least it’s novel.
Good grief. People are too far removed from reality anymore. Not enough contact with the natural world. That isnt so uncommon. There must be a dozen different species here that act similar to that. Any given species of caterpillar/ butterfly has a particular species of plant that it lives on. some of them make large web nests and spend either day or night inside them when they aren’t feeding. We have one here for pecan, walnut, black cherry, yellow poplar, redbud and…uh, I forget what else.
All those are doing is moving inside their web nest to another tree. Nearby is a tree (probably black walnut) with no leaves left on it.
Even your bugs live in mobile homes. /zing

A recent survey conducted by Virginia Commonwealth University shows that fully half of the state’s residents believe protection from discrimination should take precedence over free speech.
Just 40 percent, meanwhile, said “unlimited freedom of expression” should be emphasized even if it entails the risk of discrimination.
***

The First Amendment exists for this exact reason. Some rights are too important to be taken away by popular vote.
Well I know I hate half of Virginians. Is that discrimination?
Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one and thinks theirs is the only one that doesnt stink. These little shits are free to express their opinions and then go blow it out of their asses.
However, there is only one constitution and it is very specific about freedom of expression. That happens to be the supreme law of the land.
For now.

A headdress worn during athletic events at a Maryland high school that has been part of an ongoing tradition at the academy has been banned as dueling petitions gather signatures.
Nancy Doll, the principal of Linganore High School in Frederick, Md., confirmed Wednesday that the school would not allow the headdress to be worn by students as it had in previous years following complaints about it being offensive to Native Americans.
Petitions for and against the ban have each garnered over 1,500 signatures. As of Thursday, the petition to bring the headdress back has amassed over 2,100 signatures, with most coming from community members and alumni.
Students vote for an incoming senior to become the “chief” of the student section each year, which is called “the tribe.” The leader wears the headdress for football and basketball games.
***
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/09/02/maryland-high-school-principal-prohibits-native-american-headdress-worn-during-athletic-events.html
I offer that the reason people wear the thing is because they think it looks cool.
Another thing offensive to Native Americans:
– Killing their people and taking their land.
“Thanks for your concerns, paleface. If you could do us a solid, please abandon your homes and take your boat over the great waters back to your homeland, and we’ll just clean up the mess you made. Now would be good.”
Let’s get rid of all symbols of Native American culture including those of them being a proud people, skilled hunters, and brave warriors. If we try real hard we can ensure tomorrow’s youth only think of them (to the extent that they ever think of them or even are aware of their existence) as weak victims.
“Just lump them in with the rest of the PoC. Then offer them a similar welfare package”
Naming schools or sports teams after confederates is ungood because it honors bad people. Somehow naming those after injuns isnt an honor. It is offensive. The outrage crowd would have nothing if it weren’t for cognitive dissonance. With it there is an endless supply of reasons to be outraged.
Injuns are too poor and stupid to be outraged, we will do it for them. Because they can’t make their own proper decisions, we will do it for them

I teach the Constitution for a living. I revere the document when it is used to further social justice and make our country a more inclusive one. I admire the Founders for establishing a representative democracy that has survived for over two centuries.
But sometimes we just have to acknowledge that the Founders and the Constitution are wrong. This is one of those times. We need to say loud and clear: The Second Amendment must be repealed.
***
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/why-its-time-to-repeal-the-second-amendment-right-bear-arms-20160613
Yeah, good luck with that.
I think many 2nd amendment advocates would welcome a sincere effort to repeal it, as it would force a constitutional showdown, and cost dozens of elected officials their jobs when they were forced to actually vote up/down on the question.
iow, the net-net of the thing would be a crushing defeat for the repealers and would mobilize their opposition in ways that they could never do on their own.
They will never do the actual work to get that done.
They would actually have to go knock on doors and engage with and convince millions of Americans to vote with them.
If they could get a constitutional convention the politicians would have two choices as far as the 2nd amendment goes. Strengthen it, or pick out which cherry tree they want hung from.
You suck at your job.
You teach the constitution, huh Dave?
“They also blatantly wrote racism into the Constitution by counting slaves as only 3/5 of a person for purposes of Congressional representation. ”

Abolish the Police. Instead, Let’s Have Full Social, Economic, and Political Equality.
https://www.thenation.com/article/abolish-police-instead-lets-have-full-social-economic-and-political-equality/
***
My honest answer is that I don’t know what a world without police looks like. I only know there will be less dead black people.
***
Citation needed.
I liked this part though:
***
The police spend very little of their time dealing with violent criminals—indeed, police sociologists report that only about 10% of the average police officer’s time is devoted to criminal matters of any kind. Most of the remaining 90% is spent dealing with infractions of various administrative codes and regulations: all those rules about how and where one can eat, drink, smoke, sell, sit, walk, and drive. If two people punch each other, or even draw a knife on each other, police are unlikely to get involved. Drive down the street in a car without license plates, on the other hand, and the authorities will show up instantly, threatening all sorts of dire consequences if you don’t do exactly what they tell you.
The police, then, are essentially just bureaucrats with weapons. Their main role in society is to bring the threat of physical force—even, death—into situations where it would never have been otherwise invoked, such as the enforcement of civic ordinances about the sale of untaxed cigarettes.
***
“Abolish the Police. Instead, Let’s Have Full Social, Economic, and Political Equality.”
There seems to be a whole lot of this magical thinking going around. Are we devolving back into a mostly superstitious like cult?
They get so close to ‘hey, maybe we have too many dumb laws that the police have to enforce’ but then rapidly veer off into the crazytown of throwing the baby out with the bathwater. Sure, police shouldn’t be focused on enforcing regulations, but they sure as hell should be around to say, break up violent riots between antifa and whomever.
Without police, antifa demonstrations would have ended a long time ago.
Not in areas like Berkeley. Prog strongholds would have roaming gangs of left-wing partisans.
Now red states on the other hand…
“Prog strongholds would have roaming gangs of left-wing partisans.”
In which case Berkeley would cease to exist. Some problems are self-correcting.
As long as people like Mychal think the police are the problem the problem will never go away.

While certainly a lot of these students are predisposed to these identity politics (thank to HS teachers, media, and Hollywood), there is no doubt in my mind that the Marxist professors at these schools egg this shit on. If these colleges need to cut cost, I know a good place to start. I’m sure that instead they’ll lay off the intelligent professors because doubling down on stupid is what bureaucrats usually do.

consider that poll.
(the numbers aren’t significant, its worded terribly, and there’s probably only 1 possible interesting take-away, but still)
I’m not going to make a Twitter account to vote, what are the numbers?
The answer choices are too silly for it to matter.
Yes, but i think the point is (if any) that if you give people – even 200 self-described libertarians – the choice between
a) “Dogmatic principle like NAP”, and
b) any number of excuses for why not
that 80%+ choose b.
I guess “independent” required too much thought and explanation and just grabbing for the the nearest label that wasn’t Republican or Democrat meant people started calling themselves libertarian, even if they want to start wars or increase state welfare.

Oh man, I was jonesing for new Neil MacDonald article the whole week, because his derp is excellent. And finally, we are blessed by his masterful display of economic knowledge
Canadian government is making the right moves in cracking down on lending practices
Of course, after he railed about all the poor, poor people caught when the value of their homes dropped, he throws in this gem
It’s glorious – not only is it a prime MacDonald derp, rarely heard in this day and age, it’s repeating received wisdom from ten years ago with not a single new thought or idea!

Ninety percent of an officer’s time isn’t devoted to our safety, but rather to things we may find annoying (or in the case of things like untaxed cigarettes, create a black market for goods that threaten the profits of businesses)
WRONG, you mendacious dipshit. Eric Garner’s crime was stealing from the government.
Yeah your head has to be seriously up the government’s ass not to see the real reason Eric Garner was killed.
The police are not performing the function we say they are, and there are real ways to achieve a world with less violence that don’t include the police. We simply haven’t tried. Until we invest in full employment, universal healthcare that includes mental health services, free education at every level, comprehensive sex education that teaches about consent and bodily autonomy, the decriminalization of drugs and erasure of the stigma around drug use, affordable and adequate housing, eliminating homophobia and transphobia—things that actually reduce the amount of violence we witness—
Huh- I thought he was going to talk about lynch mobs.
By this they mean, “take more capital away from actual productive businesses, and give it to government, who creates make-work”
that should work splendidly.
They are so close on things and then veer of on fellating the government. Question: what are you going to do when people refuse to pay the taxes needed to pay for your free Utopia?
Kill them and take their shit?

BULLIES
And when you think about what kids get bullied about – being fat, queer, poor, disabled or otherwise different from dominant gender, sexuality, race and economic norms – it makes sense why bullying is so hard to stop, even when educators try. Bullying is the manifestation of white supremacist patriarchal violence that is integral to this country’s history and continues to dominate its politics and culture.
I knew it!
So bullying is solely the doing of white men? girls and blacks don’t bully.
Also British aristocrats have been bullied at elite boarding schools so economic differences don’t cause it either.
The state is the biggest bully of them all.
I was bullied quite a lot as a child & young adolescent, in the ’70s and early ’80s. I’m white, female, no gender dysphoria issues, of normal intelligence, and in terms of SES was just like my peers who were bullying me. Any deviation from sexual preference norms were not observable at the time. The people who bullied me were exclusively female and only in a few instances were they black. Generally, I think my aggressors came from homes where they were subject to a lot of verbal and perhaps some mild physical abuse, and were looking for someone to dominate so they wouldn’t feel like complete losers and victims themselves. Trying to connect the age-old phenomemon of peer-to-peer bullying among children with macro-level structural inequality is just dumb.
Yup. Stay a night at the bullies house and the key will unlock the door. I got chucked into the maelstrom when my older bro who was a pal to one of my worst bullies wanted to do a sleep-over and my parents had plans that did not include dear little Festus. That home was in complete disarray, frazzled Mom, drunken dad and six siblings clamoring for attention. Spaghetti soup for dinner and a back-hand for dessert. Oddly enough my bully stopped picking on me after that night and we later became close but guarded friends.
That’s pretty much what I imagine was going on at those homes. And the relationship with the bullies – even while the situation was ongoing there was a strange connection. They didn’t always bully me, but the situation could turn on a dime.
