Well half of the headlines on every sports website are about political posturing bullshit. And that’s even with a freaking HUGE FBI investigation leading to the arrest of four assistant college basketball coaches following a three-year fraud investigation. Louisville and Rick Pitino appear to be at the center (or close enough to it). So we’ve likely seen him coach his last game. I guess he can dedicate more time to banging assistant coaches wives and ignoring his other assistants planning stripper and whore parties for recruits. No offense to Louisville fans here, but you guys have great facilities and great boosters. Yet you also have two sleazy motherfuckers as the face of your two highest-profile sports. I don’t get it.
In baseball, the Rockies won as did the Brewers. Their wild card lead sits at 1.5 games with 4 and 5 games remaining respectively. The Cubs failed to lock up the division as they fell to the Cardinals. The Yankees won. Team Canada beat the Red Sox. The Angels won, but its too-little, too-late for them. The D-backs stayed hot. The Dodgers are getting warmer. And the Astros continued to sizzle as they chase 100 wins on the season. And the Twinks beat the Indians to all but lock down the last AL Wild Card spot.
In soccer, Sevilla won and Liverpool tied, again, to move into the top two spots in Group E. Man Shitty and Napoli are proving to be the class of their group. Real Madrid pasted Dortmund and Spurs beat Aepol to take control of Group H. And Porto and Beskitas won their Group G matches. More games today across Europe and I’m sure several of you Glibs will be tuning in.
I’m not gonna lament the whistle-happy NHL refs every morning. Especially today since I didn’t even see highlights last night as I was watching the A-Team fuck shit up and save the life of a former North Vietnamese prison cook who helped save their lives. Maybe tomorrow. But today’s sports update is done and now its time for…the links!
After Roy Moore trounced Luther Strange in the Alabama GOP primary yesterday, expect the wave of GOP retirements to begin. The former judge and fan of Trump’s populist rhetoric was the canary in the coal mine for establishment types. And the writing is one the wall. Trump, who surprisingly campaigned for Strange, will probably support every single outsider challenging incumbents now and we are looking at another 1994 or 2010 dead in the eye on the right side of the aisle. Team Blue are celebrating the loss of a candidate supported by the president. But his support was more an overture to the GOP establishment. You can expect that to stop now, after the Strange loss and the establishment screwing him over on Obamacare repeal promises they’d made for the last 7+ years. You think I’m crazy? Then tell me why Bob Corker just announced his retirement in Tennessee last night.
Way to shit the bed, Harvard. Who is on the board that awards fellowships, the Marx Brothers?
San Diego is a really cool place with a lot of hot chicks. But don’t hook up with the ones that are yellow. The city and county are blaming each other. As if government has ever been the cause of or solution to diseases (with apologies to conspiracy theorists who believe they invented AIDS for myriad reasons).
Remember that crazy Florida (Muslim) Man who killed a pair of his roommates because they ridiculed his new faith? Probably not, since it was treated as local news. Well his surviving roommate, who just so happens to be a National Guardsman and neo-Nazi at the same time, is expected to plead guilty today to storing bomb-making material in the apartment. Cops came across it as they were cleaning up the mess how former roommate made. So very, very Florida Extremist Man of both of you.
A lot of bills are sitting on Jerry Brown’s desk awaiting his signature. But none are as important as the one which will allow the state to rewrite biological facts to reinforce the deluded people who deny their own simple biology.
What the fucking fuck?!?!?!?!?!
Harris County, TX has an ambitions plan. I, for one, don’t see how this could possibly be abused and think its good financial stewardship of my taxpayer money and is in no way rewarding people who refused to plan appropriately for a natural disaster while living in a flood plain.
Yeah, I know I’m posting a lot of links today. But I keep coming across extra good ones. So sue me if you don’t want to read about a 27 year old cold case murder committed by a clown being solved.
Continuing with this week’s theme…
Giddy-up, Glibs!
71) I was talking to a co-worker from Maryland about the possibility of Amazon’s second headquarters moving to the DC area. He was of the opinion in such a case that Amazon should build in Maryland, while I pointed out it would almost certainly locate in northern Virginia. “Why?” Because of our better roads, lower taxes, more generally hospitable and predictable regulatory environment.
“Ah, you Virginians talk about all that business-friendly crap. But the truth is, there would be nothing in northern Virginia if not for the federal government putting the Pentagon there.”
I’ve heard this argument before. But I just don’t think it’s true. Yes, much of northern Virginia’s economy is driven by federal spending. But in the absence of the federal government, I think there would still be quite a sizable city in the area.
In 1790, the population of Alexandria, VA, was 2,748, the population of Georgetown, MD, was 2,135. A combined population for these two cities on opposite sides of the Potomac River of nearly 5,000 made this a fairly sizable settlement for the era. (For comparison’s sake, Richmond’s population in the 1790 census was 3,761, Baltimore’s was 13,503, Boston’s was 18,320.)
Is there any reason to think Alexandria and Georgetown wouldn’t have continued growing without Congress establishing the federal district in the area in July 1790? Those two cities grew there in the first place because they were at the last easily navigable point on a large river. And farther up the Potomac, there is plenty of the fast-rushing water of the type that made New England an industrial powerhouse in the 19th century.
In fact, I can imagine that by 1900, this area might have been MORE developed and populated, if not for the federal government taking up all the prime real estate. The population of DC in 1900 was 278,718. Maybe a heavily industrialized combined Alexandria/Georgetown area would have been closer to Baltimore’s 1900 population of 508,957? As for northern Virginia itself, I think it would have done better in the time period, as the northern, Washington, DC, side of the Potomac wouldn’t have sucked all the economic energy away.
I do agree that much of northern Virginia’s growth since World War II has been due to the mushrooming increase in federal spending. Without the federal government, the DC area would almost certainly not be at the 6 million people it has today. But it’s easy to imagine an Alexandria-Georgetown area of 1 or 2 million, with northern Virginia’s share of the population and economy being as great or greater than Maryland’s.
Were DC smaller and the US libertarian there would be a lot fewer parasites with large disposable incomes in the area, so I assume some business would suffer. But who knows which other would thrive.
Northern Virginia is growing simply because Maryland sucks donkey dick.
But what is the STD rate?
Well Baltimore is in Maryland…
This. We would’ve stayed in Dallas if my job opportunity was in the district or MD. The fact that it was 25 miles out west and in NoVa made it palatable.
Counterpoint: While any town on decent land with a navigable river is going to grow if for no other reason than rivers are highways for trade, you’re competing with Baltimore, Annapolis, hell, Norfolk. It’s not like it would be a wasteland absent the Fed, but you’re not approaching DC levels. Actually, the problem you might have is that the region would support various industries such that there wouldn’t be much reason for people to cluster into one city, so you’d have a comparable population but without any one massive city dominating the landscape.
To your larger point, the only reason Amazon would move to Maryland as opposed to Virginia would be a tax break or some other bribe from the state. Absent that, there’s zero reason I can think of.
I can.
There is actually empty land along the beltway on the Md side in and around Bowie.
Get Md to pay to extend the DC metro out from New Carrolton a couple of miles and put the facility right off of 50 at 424 or along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway around Powder Mill Rd. You could also locate it around the Freeway Airport along 50.
Anyway you cut it there is way more land available on the Eastern Side of DC than there is to the West.
If you build in that area, 50 becomes nightmarish. Seriously, sticking a Metro station in Crofton!? The mind recoils!
There’s a pretty big spot that has been an industrial park in the making for damn near twenty years now it seems, where 50 hits 301, that would be feasible, but it would still snarl the shit out of traffic. Just picture the delivery traffic added on top of the regular stuff. Ugh.
I didn’t say I wanted it to happen.
Just that if they were determined to put it near DC that area makes more sense than on the western side of the beltway where traffic is ALREADY a nightmare and land is scarce.
But the truth is, there would be nothing in northern Virginia if not for the federal government putting the Pentagon there
Pot, meet kettle.
The most populous counties in Maryland are all the sleeping communities of Federal government employees and contractors. The Federal government, directly and through and its many contractors and subsidiaries, has been the number one employer for the entire state for a long time. If the Federal government somehow up and left for another part of the country, Maryland would be a wasteland.
Not a wasteland – a chicken farm.
And sweet, sweet ‘baccy, don’t forget. Used to be a big Maryland product, and is still hanging on a bit in southern Maryland.
Scrapple
When I finally evac outta this hellhole, it’ll be the scrapple I miss most.
If they wanted to put a tobacco farm a half a mile upwind of my Dad’s house, I wouldn’t hear nearly as many complaints about it as I do the chicken farm expansion.
Luther Strange is a cool name though
Good name for a super villain or pornstar. Or a supervillian pornstar?
A pimp who moonlights as a soul singer
I had snark, but today’s day job work prospects don’t exactly inspire much joy.
Each patch there’s “one or two” little manual steps that need to be done to clean up after those oh so important developers fixing the bugs. So when they roll up a bunch of patches into a big update, they take some time and automate those that can be kicked off by batches, right?
Of course not, Sysadmins have nothing better to do than sit there an manually run cleanup scripts for dozens of small patches. (If they weren’t ‘go into the app and do X’ I’d automate them myself).
submit a bug report “clenaup steps missing”.
[Vendor Redacted] will simply go “This is a known issue – follow the manual work-around instructions provided with the patch set update”.
The Harvard link goes to the Florida man story.
I just thought that was how badly Hah’vahd screwed up.
I read it twice, shrugged and then clicked the Muslim article. Then the house of cards fell into place, Domino.
I was away for a bit working. But it looks like an edit fairy hooked me up.
She’s a good-un.
“Remember that crazy Florida (Muslim) Man who killed a pair of his roommates because they ridiculed his new faith? Probably not, since it was treated as local news. Well his surviving roommate, who just so happens to be a National Guardsman and neo-Nazi at the same time”
It seems like there’s a really zany sitcom in the idea of a Muslim and a neo-Nazi becoming roommates.
cellmates now.
“Devons was also a white supremacist before converting to Islam.”
Good choice.
Since both are supremacist ideologies, that’s not much of a leap.
Well, there’s nothing that says white people can’t become Muslims. Aside from the raging racism among the Arabs.
The Arabs are white people. They’re just not of the Nordic variety.
What amuses me is how much culture shock there is at my job between the Muslims from paler countries (largely Iraqi and Jordanian), and the Muslims from Africa. The African Muslims were pretty hostile towards the other ones early on (Mostly Somalis, and they’ve been in the U.S. significantly longer), and the paler Muslims had to unlearn some racist attitudes they were displaying (mostly body language B.S., but I’ve had to deal with some complaints from workers I’m not the supervisor of, but appear neutral to, since I’m obviously not ethnically Muslim).
One of my high school friends got assigned to a college dorm with Jewish and Muslim roommates. Both were well-off south FL types, but there the similarities ended. The Jewish kid was nice enough, but incredibly annoying (whenever the topic of females came up, he’d say stuff like “split that cooch” and talk your ear off about surfing), but the Iranian was short, angry, and virulently anti-Semitic. He was kicked out of school for some insane behavior within a year. Possible the worst luck for roommates, but kind of hilarious in retrospect.
I was roomed with a black guy who I never got to know because he pledged one of the black fraternities. He was effectively in hiding after that.
My exact experience. Single occupancy dorm for the cost of a double.
The Really Odd Couple?
Reminds me of Four Lions. Great movie.
That would be another remake. Hitler and Grand Mufti al-Husseini already had their buddy comedy.
“Way to shit the bed, Harvard. Who is on the board that awards fellowships, the Marx Brothers?”
Is Harvard located in Key Largo now? it think it’s a good move for them.
THE MOTHERFUCKING LINK GOT FIXED AFTER THE THIRD PERSON COMPLAINED!!!!!!
Why did they complain in the 3rd person? That seems pretentious to me.
See that doesn’t sound correct
Sorry, at the time I posted I didn’t see any other complaints.
I’m just fucking with you, man.
“Way to shit the bed, Harvard. Who is on the board that awards fellowships, the Marx Brothers?
That links to: http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/florida-keys/article175605296.html not something about Harvard.
I was thinking maybe it had something to do with the chick who killed her 4 year old getting a phd scholarship?
“San Diego is a really cool place with a lot of hot chicks. But don’t hook up with the ones that are yellow.”
So racist.
I’m offended by your jaundiced view of my comment.
Yeah, come on, it was just a (liver) fluke.
So lacist.

“Yet you also have two sleazy motherfuckers as the face of your two highest-profile sports. I don’t get it.”
You whiny mammal, if only half the coaches were this motivated I might actually watch some stupid mammals bounce a ball around.
I’m a bit shaky this morning because my mom is in the hospital. It sounds like she is OK. But my body isn’t listening to my brain telling it she’ll be alright. I just talked to the nurse. Who said my mom will me in a bunch of test procedures this morning. So there is nothing for me to do until about 10 AM.
Hang tough, Spuddo.
Thanks.
Hope you mom feels better soon.
Thanks. She says she feels fine. They just don’t know what was wrong with her. A couple of doctors said she might have had a TIA yesterday afternoon.
If it’s a TIA, you really have my sympathies. Mom had a series of TIAs before being diagnosed with dementia.
Officially, the doctors said she had Alzheimer’s, but vascular/multi-infarct dementia is a thing.
Sorry to hear, best of luck to you and your mom.
Good luck. When I am God-Emperor none of families will be allowed to be sick.
I hope she gets well.
My prayers will be with you and your mom. Keep us updated when/if you can.
Best of luck
Hope your mom is okay.
Good luck. Hope she feels better
Thanks to all of you for your words of support. It’s much appreciated.
Best wishes.
I’ve gone through that scenario several times with my father. Hospital waiting rooms are the absolute bummerville.
Good luck.
Good luck CP
Prayers for you and mom, CP
Condolences, hope all goes well.
Thoughts and prayers my favorite veggie.
All the best, dude. Praying for mom!
If it’s a TIA, that’s serious but not apparently damaging. And it can lead to treatment to prevent a full-blown stroke.
Good thoughts to you and your mom.
Oh noes the rich wanna steal assets we all share!!! Worry not my fellow sharers, George Monbiot is on the motherfuckin case
Don’t let the rich get even richer on the assets we all share
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/sep/27/rich-assets-resources-prosperity-commons-george-monbiot
„Both sides seem to agree that state and market are the only sectors worth discussing: politics should move one way or the other along this linear scale. In fact, there are four major economic sectors: the market, the state, the household and the commons. The neglect of the last two by both neoliberals and social democrats has created many of the monstrosities of our times.” Starts promising, wherever will this go?
„Both market and state receive a massive subsidy from the household: the unpaid labour of parents and other carers, still provided mostly by women. If children were not looked after – fed, taught basic skills at home and taken to school – there would be no economy. And if people who are ill, elderly or have disabilities were not helped and supported by others, the public care bill would break the state.” – and we are off to a great start with the unpaid labour of taking care of your family. It’s may not unpaid though, if you raise the fuckers right they may take care of you should you need it.
There’s another great subsidy, which all of us have granted. I’m talking about the vast wealth the economic elite has accumulated at our expense, through its seizure of the fourth sector of the economy: the commons. – and what are the commons? Glad you asked
„A commons is neither state nor market. It has three main elements. First a resource, such as land, water, minerals, scientific research, hardware or software. Second a community of people who have shared and equal rights to this resource, and organise themselves to manage it. Third the rules, systems and negotiations they develop to sustain it and allocate the benefits”. – today I learned software is part of the commons…
„The theft of value by people or companies who did not create it is called enclosure. Originally, it meant the seizure – supported by violence – of common land. You can see enclosure at work in the Trump administration’s attempt to destroy net neutrality.” – no further comments
I have to ask, what’s with the double commas instead of an open quotation mark in parts of Europe?
I wasn’t expecting some sort of punctuation mark inquisition
No one does…
I just see it from time to time, and it irks me because it looks wrong to my eye, especially in otherwise English text. So I started wondering where it originated. Which convention came first, when did the two diverge, that sort of thing.
The doubled comma is older. The modern English quotation mark is derived from the comma. Originally, doubled commas were used to set apart important text as a means of emphasis, and later became associated with quotations. Eventually, different regions and languages made their own modifications to the convention to make them more unique:
Thanks.
What is the root source you’re quoting? I may want to seek it out and read it.
Just the Wikipedia article on quotation marks. It has a section on the history of them, and it goes into their use in other languages. As usual, the cited sources go much further in depth than Wikipedia, but many of those sources aren’t in English and I don’t have the greatest trust for machine translation, so I stick with the pull quote from the wiki.
“a community of people who have shared and equal rights to this resource”
A recipe for overuse and neglect if there is any sort of demand for this resource, as nobody has any incentive to look after it, and everybody has an incentive to take as much as they can before anybody else gets there.
“The theft of value by people or companies who did not create it is called enclosure. Originally, it meant the seizure – supported by violence – of common land. ”
And yet, it is what they call enclosure that prevents said overuse and neglect that so often afflicts those things held in common.
Oh that’s what I’d been planning to comment about.
I preordered a book from Amazon simply because I wanted to read the contents. (It was a collection of absurd crossover tales like Batman meets Elmer Fudd which is reported to be much better than it sounds). As happens some times, there was a promotion associated with preordering a product from Amazon. In this case a credit for a free digital comic. I was briefly interested until I read the conditions. It was for a free Marvel comic, and the titles covered simply drained away any remnant of interest. Upon thinking about it I realized not only are sales bad, but resellers literally just failed to give these books away.
Ah, Crap, this was not supposed to be a reply.
Can we do something to make it easier to cancel replies?
Not really. It fucks up a lot of other shit if we try to edit how a comment is threaded.
The only thing we could do is delete it. And if we did that, nobody could ridicule the person who fucked up.
I meant making it more obvious that when filling out the comment field at the bottom of the page the system still thinks you’re trying to respond to something you decided against actually talking about.
I’m stilly trying to figure out how to reliably reproduce the error, since it does seem pernicious, but the parameters that lead to this happening elude me.
Testing.
Parameters – clicked “Reply” button, entered nothing, refreshed page, put comment in bottom of page comment box.
Lets see where this ends up.
It’ll tell you if it’s a reply right there in bold above your comment. I’ve never had it happen to me when I’ve started a reply and then aborted it for a fresh comment at the bottom of the page. But I have seen where it tells you your comment is a reply. So I’ve refreshed and then posted the new comment.
Well then, that answers that.
If someone changes their mind about making a remark, then refreshes the comments and decides to make a new contribution, they end up replying to the person they decided against replying to.
I don’t know what you’re doing, but that’s not what happens when I abort a reply and then scroll down and start a fresh comment, let alone when I refresh and open the page anew.
You’re doing something wrong.
Here’s the difference, Sloopy – You’re hitting “Cancel Reply”
What has been happening is after contemplating a few snarks with the text box open, I simply refreshed the page to see any new comments then, finding nothing I wanted to reply to remembered I had a separate topic to bring up and went to the bottom of the page. The fact that it still thought I was replying didn’t reappear until the post when it became a reply.
I’m not hitting cancel reply. I’m just opening a new comment box somewhere else and then deleting out the text I had started entering.
As for refreshing the page, I’ve never refreshed when I had a comment box open and had the page open with me in an active comment box.
I don’t know what you’re doing, but it ain’t natural.
Step 1: Start with no actions on the Page.
Step 2: Hit “Reply”
Step 3: Reload the page
Step 4: Scroll to the bottom.
Step 5: Enter new comment
Step 6: Hit “Post Comment”
Step 7: See where it ends up.
The reason for step 3 was that I decided not to make a remark and wanted to see what new remarks had been made.
Ok. I did it exactly as you said and it posted at the bottom.
What browser are you using? Because it’s not working properly when it refreshes. It should open the page cleanly, not partially making a comment. There’s something wrong with your computer or browser.
Firefox with NoScript allowing Glibertarians but disallowing the others. AdBlock disabled for Glibertarians.

I was seriously considering getting that just for that part.
Both market and state receive a massive subsidy from the household: the unpaid labour of parents and other carers, still provided mostly by women.
The reason people have children is to create new consumers and taxpayers..
I like how taking care of your own fucking kids is “unpaid labor” that is a “massive subsidy” for the State and the market. How can anyone’s thinking actually be that fucked up? How does this actually make sense to anyone? Never mind that “research” is now a commons. Because reasons.
You missed the giveaway; “still provided mostly by women.” If stay-at-home dads were a common thing and taking care of the kids and home instead of mom, there’d be no mention of this.
Thanks a lot. I’m retarded now.
The Billy Madison quote has never been more relevant.
Clown killing? 27 years pause? Are we living in Stephen King’s “It”?
My first thought too. The years even line up with the adaptation releases.
Ladies and gentlemen, after the realization that women had better sex in communism, New York Times Opinion brings this fabulous piece
For all its flaws, the Communist revolution taught Chinese women to dream big
https://twitter.com/nytopinion/status/912469539283177472
I suppose I can imagine sex being better in a Communist country, or at least more frequent. When there’s not much to do, no reason to start your own business or build a career, less money for entertainment which is mostly frowned on anyway, even religion and church-going is discouraged, what’s left but sex and drinking?
Considering that a lot of communist leaders spend their free time in ways that would make even STEVE SMITH call out all the rape going on, the notion that Communism is some some net gain for women is a farce.
Well, sounds like once they hit puberty, Chairman Mao lost interest.

Congenital syphilis, as it is known, can cause stillbirths or permanent disabilities. Since 2012, the number of babies born with congenital syphilis nationwide nearly doubled, reaching 632 last year
Oh noes! .0001 percent of babies born will have syphilis! Shut up and tax me more to pay for other people’s poor choices.
What? You don’t want to pay for someone else’s STD treatments simply because they choose to be horn dogs and sleep with anything that moved? Sounds pretty bigoted to me!
What’s are the kneeling players going to do next? Continue kneeling every game until something, something is done by someone? What could possibly be done to satisfy them? If their cause is so righteous, how could they stop now? Lots of questions which virtue signaling has no answer to.

How damn good you must have it if getting to have your mental illness catered to on your driver’s license is “leaving the shadows.”
Yeah, when I think of “forward-thinking” I think of California! *eye-roll* This isn’t anything to do with agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. Your biology is your biology. You either have XY chromosomes, and are therefore a boy, or you have XX chromosomes, and are therefore a girl. That’s it, period end of discussion. You have any other chromosome setup, you have a disorder, not a third gender.
Of course, Trump has to be mentioned for everything, doesn’t he? Here’s the real driving reason behind this insanity by these people. It might annoy Republicans, so let’s do it!
If you happen to be one of the vanishingly small number of people who had a chromosomal or developmental mishap, you have our sympathy – but we’re not reprogramming the system to accomodate you.
“The bill is the kind of proposal that sets California apart as a forward-thinking state that tries to do right by all its residents,”
I wonder how many Californian property owners and entrepreneurs would agree with this.
“You either have XY chromosomes, and are therefore a boy, or you have XX chromosomes, and are therefore a girl. That’s it, period end of discussion.”
Well, no, even biological sex is more complicated than that. Anyway, if someone successfully transitions, having that gender on their drivers license makes the most sense. But having an “X” available doesn’t seem necessary or helpful.
Maybe that’s all they have down there, a crudely carved “X”–like a map to pirate treasure that only leads to a defective urethra.
A buddy of mine that sells propane and propane accessories has told me about the problems of having a narrow urethra when it comes to trying to conceive children.
Is that what’s wrong with Bobby?

It’s like “gyp”. You guys have cheating, thieving gypsies, right?
On a less racist note, the name of that group makes me laugh because my born-and-died in NY grandmother used to describe everyone as a “Nice [Ethnicity] [Gender]”. My uncle married a nice jewish girl, his cousin married a nice black gentleman, the nice puerto rican lady from church invited her to have coffee. Thanks for the happy memory.
To the Paddy wagon with you for wrongthinking.
Do you think its the Paddy wagon because the Paddys were driving or in the back or both?
That you would even ask this question says something nice about America.
When it comes to an etymology of a slur, we don’t even know if they’re called Paddy wagons because they’re filled with Mics, or because they’re driven by Mics.
Aren’t all Romanians cheating, thieving gypsies?
No, some are vampires.
It’s been a verb for a long time, used to mean “to weedle” or unfairly position for a bargain in a transaction. “I jewed him down on the price of the stereo.” Has a connotation that you cheated someone.
I have used it before. /hangs potato nigger head in shame then sees shot of whiskey and tips head up for a sip
(thanks John Titor for teaching me the Irish slur… loves it)
I had always assumed that it meant that you negotiated a better price, not that it meant you cheated someone. But maybe that’s my Scottish heritage coming out. We always like a better price.
Not that the Scots are cheap, but copper wire was invented by two Scotsmen fighting over a penny. And the Grand Canyon was created when a Scotsman saw a silver dollar roll down a rabbit hole.
My Scottish grandfather always said he wasn’t cheap, he was “thrifty”.
What about “Welsh on a bet”. Are the welsh known for not paying what they owe. Jerry Rig; compliment to German ingenuity or insult?
Ohhhhh. I thought Jerry was Macgyver’s first name.
It’s Angus.
No, I’m not making that up.
“Jerry rig”? That’s not the term I remember hearing growing up for something that was cobbled together.
It is sometimes pronounced “Jury Rig”
I think sloop was remembering something a wee bit more offensive. My f-i-l still uses that one to this day, around my kids too which makes me wince.
Does it involve the dreaded n-word?
Naggers?
Nihilists?
Newfies?
No?
Niggardly. I was looking for niggardly. Thank you for playing.
Neo-Marxism?
I’ve never heard any other turns of phrase for it.
I think I know what he means and I’ll not use those words here.
I didn’t want to offend anybody so I didn’t want to use it. But to be clear, if there are any Johns or Jacks, I am sorry the term Jack rig was commonplace in my childhood.
I don’t know what the rest of you are talking about. 😛
You don’t need to be so niggardly about it.
I’ve been Jap slapped, have you?
No, but I’m willing to learn.

Not to be confused with Jap flaps that you wear.
Given Welsh history, pretty much yeah.
This song pretty much encapsulates all of welsh history and culture…
http://lyrics-keeper.com/en/unknown/welsh-history-101.html
I thought this would encapsulate welsh culture.
The original term was “jury rigged” and referred to the rigging on a ship. Anything improvised was called “juried” like jury masted, jury ruddered, etc.
Tampa Bay Glibs, so far Negroni, our Lizard overlord, and Here To Help are in for meetup. I’m thinking Mr Dunderbak’s Friday evening. I’ve never been to this place before but a biergarten with a badass beer list seems like a good start. I figure to show up about 6:00 friday and drink for a while, but I’m flexible on time and place. Other suggestions or reasons why this wouldn’t work?
That place does not look like it has a good wine list.
Andescher Bergbock is good. For a while, this place claimed they were the only place in the US you can get it. Now they don’t make that claim, and I see why. I guess the Andescher monks have discovered they like the filthy lucre they get by exporting more and more of their beer.
The whole beer list there looks good.
I might be able to make that. Depends on when I have to drive my mate to the local airport….I offered to have an assault shuttle pick her up, but she was worried about what the neighbors would think
I expect to be there until at least 9:30 unless I’m ejected forcibly.
My reptilian metabolism allows me to get fighting drunk within 7 minutes if required so I can definitely assist in your foolish endeavor
Also
Also that place gets packed around that hour. Not sure if they take reservations.
Not on Friday or Saturday evening. I’ll just strike up a conversation and be myself and scare away a table full of normies, but I might also just show up early and camp.
Go with the camping option. Moar bier zeit!
Works for me and we can even go early and day drink if anyone wants . I’ve got jack shit to do and my wife is a prof so she’s done with work at like 10am on Friday. The wife is a die hard ancap and a lurker here so no one needs to be on good behavior around her.
Bring her. I’ll quit early and try to get over there by 3:30. Just need to eat a lot to keep it up for six hours.
3:30ish sounds like a good time. As per the bylaws of libertarianism I will be the large bald bearded white dude.
Sounds good. I’ll wear my Texas sized belt buckle! Kidding. I’ll dig up a UT hat.
Just need to eat a lot to keep it up for six hours.
I hope you’re eating little blue pills.
As if government has ever been the cause of or solution to diseases
Some blacks can vouch for the government not treating their syphilis.
Didn’t Johns Hopkins and the Feds just get hit with a billion dollar lawsuit for infecting immigrants with something so they could observe the spread of disease? Oh, here it is. Johns Hopkins, the Feds, and the predecessor to Bristol-Meyers-Squibb deliberately infected Guatamalans with STDs.
Seems they are trying to drag in private entities by playing 6 degrees of
gonorrheaseparation because the courts previously ruled that the feds can’t be sued. And, there’s the government poisoning alcohol during Prohibition (trigger warning: Slate).
Is it just me or is there a clear outline of Bradley Manning’s junk in that picture?
I didn’t look that closely. NTTIAWWT
I’m distracted by the edit fairy.
Chels looks like Kurt Cobain in drag.
She’s definitely hangin’ dong.
I’m not seeing it.
I’m pretty sure that Manning is still pre-op. I know that putting these matters to scrutiny is doublepluswrongthink, but I’ve found the timing of Manning’s transition to be a bit suspect.
A very-2017 expression: “Military Transgender Benefits”
It appears to be all there. Like s/he is not even trying to tuck it up.
So, regarding the Harvard story that is now properly linked, maybe the mistake was giving Manning an invitation in the first place. He is only in the public spot light because of his illegal actions, not really over trans issues (though that does make for good headlines). Add to that the fact that everything I see him tweet seems inane, they would have been better off finding someone else to speak on the planned topic to begin with.
It was a retarded virtue signal from the beginning.
I’ve said this before, I wouldn’t be surprised if the people who invited her in the first place didn’t know she had been locked up for espionage. All anyone talks about is how she was trans.
Related, it infuriated me to see her scoffing at Canada, which denied entry to her because her crimes were comparable to treason. I don’t get the sympathy for Manning. She showed no discretion in dumping all the data she could get her hands on. She is no Edward Snowden.
I don’t know why you keep saying “she” dumped data. Everybody knows Bradley Manning was the traitor that dumped all that data. Chelsea is the woman who walked out of that stockade pure as the driven snow. So stop tying that brace woman to the deadname motherfucker who likely got a bunch of Americans killed because he was a treasonous piece of shit with no motive other than to be an asshole.
What can I say, maybe I think escaping guilt shouldn’t be so simple. Going trans helped her in the sympathy arena. Otherwise a lot of journalistic outfits wouldn’t have given the issue the time if day.
Oh I’m with you. I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy. The left even said Bradley Manning was a traitor. You know, when the facts of the case were all that mattered.
But tranny to Chelsea, and BAM! All of a sudden she’s a brave woman being railroaded by a sexist, transphobic GOP-led media and the facts are no longer relevant.
The whole episode is a black eye on the media who ignored the facts of a very clear case in order to ram a bullshit social agenda down our throat. And I’m glad they’re suffering some backlash for it.
Yeah, that is pretty much my take as well. I don’t think he should have been pardoned, but then, it was the most transparent administration in history.
Look at which person gets the pardon. The guy who surgically leaked government misdoing, or the person who leaked everything and led to some prosecutions of a few people. What’s the difference? Who was being portrayed in a bad light? The government never forgets.
That and just look at what they each did since. Manning went into Trans-rights activism (good), while Snowden was in Russia (!!!) saying how evil the government is (bad). It also has a bit to do with the fact that Snowden never did any time, and Obama thought the optics would be worse on that, pardoning someone who never paid for their crimes at all.
I wish Obama’s motives were that pure.
In my opinion he pardoned Manning because he made Bush look bad. He didn’t pardon Snowden because he made Obama himself look bad. It’s as simple as that. Politics as usual.
I think there are three groups that were happy to see Manning pardoned:
To the idiot left, she was imprisoned by the military and is transgender. That makes her a noble, oppressed hero, because the only things that matter to the idiot left are classifications and is double-venerable.
To the intelligent left, she was imprisoned due to a well-meaning but flawed attempt to bring to light things she saw as oppressive acts by the military. This makes her a sympathetic but not venerable figure.
To some (I wouldn’t have a good guess on exactly who, but I’m in this boat), she seems like a pretty fucked-up basket-case who did something incredibly stupid, did it poorly, and was subjected to unAmerican, long-term torture because our military is so fucked up they can’t just put a person in prison for doing bad things like they should. Given that she’s a fucked-up basket-case (and I’m not just talking about the transgender issue), it didn’t go well and the pardon was more of a recognition that torturing this sick person was a mistake.
It is clear that she was invited by a member of the idiot left. She was invited to talk about LGBTQ issues in the military. When she was in the military, she wasn’t LGBTQ. She could have been invited to talk about LGBTQ issues in prison. Or the effects of torture. Or about doing something you thought was heroic only to see it all ruin your life and fail to achieve what you thought it would.
But no, she was invited to talk about something she had no experience with because Harvard stereotyped her incorrectly (military + LGBTQ!! never mind the time difference). It becomes clear that 1) Harvard is run by the idiot left and 2) Harvard is run by idiots who live in a bubble and don’t have any experience interacting with anyone who diverges even a tiny bit from the idiot left catechism.
Not a great look Harvard. “You have to be pretty smart to believe something so stupid” is a useful line on the campuses of elite institutions. When I was at one, it didn’t apply to everyone I met. But it applied to at least one person I met every day.
Sentence commuted, not pardoned.
So, still guilty of Treason-grade offenses.
When she was in the military, she wasn’t LGBTQ.
When Chelsea Manning was still Bradley Manning he identified as gay, or at least that’s how it’s been reported. Always LGBTQ, just a different letter now.
OT, but if anyone is looking for a next book to read, I have to recommend “Columbine” by Dave Cullen. A classmate recommended it and gave me his copy. I was nervous it was going to be a voyeuristic retelling of the massacre (it is covered in painstaking detail but is only part of the book). Instead it weaves the narrative surrounding the town seamlessly with the massacre’s larger effect on the American psyche. It’s one of the best non-fiction books I’ve ever read.
There’s so much to digest. So much of the book takes place at a time when school shootings were a relatively new phenomenon. Law enforcement is painted in both a sympathetic light (first responders suffered PTSD after witnessing the aftermath) and an infuriating light (within 24 hours of the massacre, local law enforcement held a clandestine meeting to acknowledge the existence and plan the destruction of evidence that Eric Harris had been publishing violent threats online for some time and had continuously threatened one student in particular). The media’s behavior following tragedy was flagrantly irresponsible, perpetuating myth after myth until the perspectives of everyone even tangentially related to the events had been totally warped and any useful data or testimony was extremely difficult to attain.
What elevates the book is the author’s restraint. Cullen has apparently done a lot of work for Salon. You can’t tell here. The reader doesn’t need to be told law enforcement, the media, and various individuals who tried to capitalize on the tragedy in whatever way behaved despicably. The author simply presents all of the information he has accumulated and entrusts his readers to be able decipher it for themselves. It’s exactly the type of journalism we never see anymore (if in fact it was ever a widespread practice). What’s also refreshing is that the author assigns all of the blame for the massacre to Eric and Dylan. Yes, it’s discussed how they procure the weapons and what needed to go wrong in order for that to happen. The book makes it clear that they were going to hurt a lot of people no matter what and, if you read, you’ll see they had something far more horrific in mind. The author makes only one judgement, but it is an important one. Without spoiling too much, the last third of the book largely consists of one of the most disturbing looks into psychopathy I have ever read.
The book is incredibly sad, but there are moments of hope. Many of the survivors and parents do not become advocates for grand causes (although some do) following the tragedy. A lot of them are indistinguishable from the people who have lived in your town forever. For the most part, they are content to seek out small victories and moments that remind them of the times before their lives were shattered. Your heart breaks for them when they achieve those. Sorry for the long winded post. The book made an impact and is a great read for anyone.
What is in infuriating isnthat when pigs are one on one with an unarmed citizen, they act like commandos. But when the pigs are facing armed resistance, they act like pussiest and wait for swat.
This is true. That said, a lot of the first guys to get there were local guys, in way over their heads, and a couple of them did engage with the shooters. They had injured kids, dozens of terrified victims, and witnesses who provided terrible information due to the confusion of it all. Remember this was back when school shootings were the “phenomenon” they are today. One cop said the sheer volume of gunshots and explosions he heard when he got there made him think it was a terrorist attack. Also, the whole thing was over in less than half an hour. The response was imperfect, but reading about it makes it tough to identify what else could’ve been at the time. It did lead to revamping the immediate response though.
Good post. I enjoy getting reading recommendations and mini-reviews like this from liberty minded-individuals. I may have to check this out. I read one called “Dead Run” (sorry no link, my html skillz suck) about some militia guys in the late 90’s in the four corners area that was also excellent true crime writing. I’d like to see more reviews like this comment posted as content.
Incidentally that book also describes the best and worst behavior of law enforcement and presents a pretty compelling case that the police murdered one of the suspects and covered it up.
So is there anything to the russian facebook story? Havnt looked into it other than Dan Rather claiming its a major blow to democracy.
It was nonstop Russia!, Russia!, Russia!, on CNN yesterday evening.
Thats your first mistake, using cnn for news. I use one website for all my news needs. Glibertarians.
Well, I was waiting with my mom at the hospital. The TV only had basic cable.
Find the morphine cabinet.
They tend to be rather stringent with the morphine. You can feel free to huff the oxygen feed though. That shit will get you high. Just don’t try smoking at the same time.
Is this where Russia bought ads and that’s how they hacked the election? If democracy is so weak that it can’t handle ads being bought and people discerning for themselves, well it might be useless.
Of course all of this shows the contempt that the left has for the average individual. That and that even if Russia has bought these ads, they wouldn’t care if the right person won. Democracy failed because the chosen establishment candidate lost.
The evidence shows that ads only actually matter when there’s no real difference between the candidate.
There there’s an issues gulf, spending doesn’t seem to be able to overcome that.
It was about this:
“Exclusive: IRS shares information with special counsel in Russia probe”
http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/26/politics/special-counsel-irs-russia-probe-information-sharing/index.html
Finally getting Trump’s tax returns!!!!
So, $100K swung an entire election. But the tens of millions that Ossoff spent to win that special election in GA didn’t change his numbers at all from the first round of voting to the final election.
Maybe the Democrats should be hiring these Russian ad agencies? Seems like they know what they are doing.
Yeah, whenever people mention this (people meaning NPR, et al.) I am shocked by how little they spent on the ads and I can’t imagine it made one lick of difference to the election.
1. It’s not illegal for Russia or anyone else to buy ads on Facebook.
2. the Russian ads amount to a tiny fraction of a fraction of a percent of the ads on Facebook over that time period.
What did the bra say to the hat?

6, 11 and 26 part of a complete breakfast.
Google says #17 is porn star Dani Daniels.
No time for an orgy today. #13 (she reminds me of Irene Nell), #4, #2.
I feel so bad for the old coot in #4.
You finally luck out in life and have a hottie start prancing around in front of you and of course your wife is right next to you. You know you have to look away or face the consequences.
Similar question. What is wrong with the people in #11. What is so interesting in the background that none of them are looking at that gal?
” You know you have to look away or face the consequences.”
I’d face the consequences.
Okay, either I’ve got some weird hormonal thing going on, or this is significantly better than your average Q-link.
17, 20, 22, 28, 31 (#yesall) and several others.
Jesus, these are better than usual, and that is saying something.
#2 is the winner, boyish yet sexy AF
And the ladies in #31…beautiful assets
#20 in the office with the tan lines. Doing that at work…nice.

All good choices Slammer
Wholeheartedly agree, good work Q.
Yep. #2 for me. Redheads forever.

14 win in an incredible sultry mix of class and “Let’s plow” brain stem activity. I also want that drink.
12 shows with a body I’d deflower an echidna to do coke off of.
9 places just a length behind with an absolutely mesmerizing face. Her tats are also stupid-funny.
And yes. Poor bastard in 4. I’d peek and I’d poke.
By the way, I DQ all those with no face showing. As appealing as many of The Faceless are, A Man must know for sure.
Two milk!
I know exactly where #6 took that photo. I go jogging there myself. Hope to “encounter” her sometime.
I am having impure thoughts about #32.
Thanx for posting.
#1 is what Jennifer Aniston thinks she still looks like.
In fairness, Jenny is aging nicely. Still would.
Don’t stick it in crazy. She is A-grade crazy.
Yeah, haven’t seen her in anything recently, but I remember her in that dog movie with Owen Wilson a few years back. She still looked pretty good.
1 and 32.
Together… separate… it just doesn’t matter!

I miss Manly Mondays
Maybe there is something to this soccer thing?
BTW, I’m in Chicago for a bunch of meetings, so I won’t be able to pay too much attention this morning, but I’m assuming that we are still on for the Minnesoda Meet Up at Broadway Pizza in Plymouth tomorrow.
Pics or it didn’t happen.
Also, she should be able to go topless without being hassled, imo.
Right. How am I supposed to know if she is a pervo-monster or a victim of the Patriarchy without pics.
And there was a 7 year-old present! His life is now ruined because he saw boobs.
High probability that this is her.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/rose-picklo-91b4b567
Could be one of those deceiving photographs, but since she can apparently brew beer, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and say she should definitely have the right to go topless.
She works for a brewery and gets blackout drunk on 3 beers?
Damn straight.
While not complaining about the topless 23 yo hottie, if a dude walked around in public in front of a 7 yo with his junk hanging out he’s a lifetime sex offender. Jussayin’.
Well, she didn’t have her vagina out.
Never too early to teach them to find the clit.
I think there is a real difference between being topless and going bottomless, although I think both should be legal, unless you cause harm to someone or become a health hazard.
I’m not convinced that women’s boobs are that much different from a man’s bare chest that they should be criminals for going without a top.
This.
Maybe this can be the new Anthem Protest. Tittays!
This topless protest shit always happens, but it’s the people you’re least want to see topless that usually attend.
“If all the killings are confirmed, the Russian couple would rank among the country’s worst serial killers”
Just a couple dozen short of Stalin’s record.
The progression goes like this: murderer, serial killer, politician, leftist role model.
New NYT article this morning: “Farmers had way better abs under feudalism”
I’d rather read a story about the Donner Party and how they were the first woke localvores.
How long until there’s a book out for the “Venezuelan Diet Plan: Lose Pounds Fast”?
Not a diet plan. I see it as a glowing review on how one progressive government was able to make hard choices to tackle the problem of childhood obesity.
^ Michelle “The Wookie” Obama approves this message ^
Would be a pretty short book.
1. Separate fatty from food for a few weeks.
2. Deprive fatty of the freedom to acquire food during this time.
3. Ignore complaints about things like “torture”.
Speaking of idiocy, and rank emotionalism… and teh commons
In downtown Bozeman, right next to a former school, there is a patch of grass owned by the Bozeman school district. Since this plot of land is useless for the purpose of furthering the education of Montana’s future leaders [pause for laughter to subside] the board has been exploring other options, like selling it. Cue weeping and wailing and rending of garments from various and sundry freeloaders who have for decades treated this parcel as their own rent free playground. The most recent assessment is somewhere in the neighborhood of 2.75 million, which is not exactly the sort of money most people would leave lying around leave lying around, especially while you’re busily trying to fund large, showy, energy-star-approved new schools in other parts of town, where lots of people actually live.
My proposal is to survey this large chunk into pieces ten feet square, and sell them off to those parties whose interest in “preservation of open space” encompasses paying for it themselves, instead of stealing it from somebody else. The deed would of course, be accompanied by a 600 page “HOA” contract with a list of restrictions on use or disposal by the owner, and an ongoing annual property tax assessment in the hundreds of dollars.
I’m sure this idea would be a huge success, and a victory all around. Because concerned NIMBY preservationists are always willing to act in a principled manner.
Open a brothel. Always a money-maker and a real improvement to the neighborhood.
Venezuelan doctors lining up to apply for jobs.
That is the funny thing about the school selling the land, they get the cash from the sale, and additional monies in rent (property taxes).
Which are evil. /trashmonster
How is it the school’s land to sell?
“Nevertheless, Manning’s acts have made her a “traitor” to some critics.”
Ummm… scare quote all you like, he is a traitor. Convicted and everything.
And yes, there is a definite schlong in that picture. Get it lopped off you coward, maybe you can get Haaahvaaaahd to pay for it.
Well convicted of espionage. Don’t know if anyone had every been convicted of treason in the US.
Wikipedia says I’m wrong.
It is staring right at me, jesus.
Some people are into that, ya know.
“San Diego is a really cool place with a lot of hot chicks. But don’t hook up with the ones that are yellow.”
By ‘yellow’ you mean cowards and not Asians, right?
RIGHT?
Napoli (like Roma) play a nice, open, fluid style brand of soccer. And they play with a lot of passion to reflect their die hard fan bases.
Not ‘One Shining Moment’: After FBI sting, college basketball should be very afraid
I’m trying to get the full story on this but the media sucks. From my understanding several coaches face bribery charges for accepting money to encourage players to choose a specific agent. Correct me if I’m wrong. So why is that illegal?
Because they work for institutions, colleges in this case, that receive federal grant money.
Ah ok my assumption was coaches were paid through fundraising and media and apparel contracts. College sports is a messy world.
Whoops hit post too early. So regardless of how they are paid they are still employed by public institutions therefore bribery laws apply.
Correct me if I’m wrong. So why is that illegal?
The ghost of Avery Brundage scowls down at you from heaven. Wait- that’s probably wrong.
Obviously it violates NCAA rules, but there has to be more to why the FBI is charging them with bribery.
How is it the school’s land to sell?
The school district is the property’s legal owner. From back in the olden times.
Wouldn’t the taxpayers be the real owners?
Taxpayers are the nominal owners. There real owners are the people who have control over how it is dispensed with.
Because the state is not the composite of “us”.
It’s a distinct and hostile entity. That (or another) piece of state-owned property may have been purchased using funds stolen from taxpayers, true. But that’s not the same thing as pretending that “the government is us”.
“On this joyous occasion, the State of Palestine reiterates its commitment to upholding its obligations and contributing to fighting crime and furthering the rule of law,” Maliki said.”
lol. Because the rule of law is something Arabs excel at.

Why doesn’t fake news deserve scare quotes or an “allegedly”?
“They included a story falsely claiming President Barack Obama was gay and a radical Muslim, and another saying protesters were being paid thousands of dollars to demonstrate at Donald Trump’s campaign rallies.”
Right, just put that last one right beside those other two as if they are equally incredulous:
http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/03/anti-trump-protesters-admit-answering-craigslist-ad-and-getting-paid-to-protest-trump/
Didn’t those Project Veritas guys get some pretty good evidence there was paid protestors too? Although, they are routinely said to be fake news too by the likes of the AP.
Makes you wonder if all the talk about the opioid “epidemic” is just a cover to allow stories like this to go unquestioned.
/sarc?
So, the Useless Old Party (UOP) couldn’t get rid of O’care when they only needed 50 votes, and we’re supposed to expect they can overhaul the tax code when they’ll need 60? I’ve got a bridge to sell you…
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/27/trumps-tax-reform-plan-would-dramatically-lower-rates-for-businesses-some-individuals.html
Can’t they pass something that lasts 9 (or is it 10) years?
Well… what are the cut-offs for the brackets? Jesus, useless reporting or the congresscritters don’t know yet?
“could”, pretty sure double the standard deduction is more than 2% of a “low-income” household’s take, regardless of the child credit.
Why do I get the feeling that once the details are filled in, people near the upper end of the middle class are going to get screwed?
What do you consider that cut-off?
Also, aren’t they (we?) always getting screwed?
So they aren’t really overhauling the tax code. They are just tweaking some numbers. Slimey motherfuckers. I am sure they are all scratching their heads over why Moore won yesterday. There is going to be a lot more head scratching in the primaries next year.
You may as well clean out your desks and go home now you worthless bastards.
As long as they get rid of the deduction for state and local taxes, I’d be open to considering any other changes, and this doesn’t sound bad. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens when those high state taxes are no longer deductible by those blue state taxpayers. Especially as the state employee pension disasters in most states (including mine) start hitting. I could see state taxes in places like NY and IL start being higher than federal taxes for a lot of people. Then things get interesting.
Saw Ted Cruz on Fox News this morning. When he starts talking taxes and economics, he really hit his stride.
Wouldn’t the taxpayers be the real owners?
Presumably. But “real” owner, and “entity whose name is on the deed” are distinctions.
Basically, we have one (small) group of taxpayers seeking to shift the cost of maintaining their precious “downtown open space” onto another (much larger) group of taxpayers by attempting to force the school board to sit on this valuable resource instead of cashing it in. They will happily force everybody’s taxes up again rather than allow the board to fund their activities as the law provides.
Let’s see where this posts after doing what UCS told me to do.
I think it posted in Sloopy A-459’s reality.
While I find this interesting, I take it with a grain of salt since it seems researchers can’t even pinpoint exactly what autism is.

I remember when the child development center at Pete said my oldest might be on the spectrum and handed me a checklist of the “warning signs” they look out for. I went through it for myself and informed them that according to their checklist I had autism, and went back to work.
Well, do you?
Can anyone answer a basic graphic design question?
I have a user manual that needs to be divided into sections. What’s the best way, visually, to divide sections in a document? Background color? Borders? I just want to differentiate between “How to Send Messages”, “How to Receive Messages”, etc. Right now they’re all just one after another with headings for each section, but visually it’s hard to distinguish where one section ends and the next begins.
Color the borders for one section then use that same color for the font of the words that describe that section.
Of course you may get a craving for sweet tarts if there are multiple sections.
Background photos behind the text. I recommend a group of children flipping the bird for “sending messages”, and maybe an Anthony Wiener dick pic for “receiving messages”.
*sustained applause*
I hate to pour Diarrhea on your plan. I suppose you could go with bold background colors. That said, every time I’ve read something in big colorful fonts from HR, it just means more work for me on the backend, and hardened my heart.
You’re still cool though.
I’d recommend something a bit more subdued – a colored border rather than the full background, just so that the text remains equally readable while there’s still an easily identifiable differentiation.
Definitely not doing anything bold or bright. It’s for a web page, so it needs to be readable. I put a light grey background under every other section, and it didn’t look quite right. Wondering if there’s any other things I can do to make it look clean.
Horizontal rule? Larger font size for headings?
Oh, it’s a web page. I was thinking printed manual.
I don’t know why, you are a web designer…
LOL
Also, not a web designer – I build what the designers create. I don’t know jack about design, obviously, since I can’t figure out this simple fuckin concept
One of my friends, who just happens to be an Army veteran, told me he ordered a shiny new Alejandro Villanueva jersey first thing Monday morning.
Does he know that Villanueva backtracked and apologized?
And Rapelessburgler came out and supported him. I haz a confuzzel.
My UPS guy said he’s done with the NFL. Longtime Steelers fan, planning on burning his stuff next Sunday.
But I’ve been reading all these articles about how the ratings aren’t really down, but if they are it’s not because of protesting and they won’t tank now because of last week’s protest and if they do tank it’s not because people are cutting the cord and they’re watching the hurricanes and Netflix is about to release the second season of Stranger Things and…
Think of all the new Woke fans the NFL will be bringing in to supplement the racist losers who are jumping ship. There must be dozens of them out there.
Ratings are down, have have been on the decline for a few years. But this is the kind of inevitable decline after a sustained period of growth that means they are still up from like 5 years ago and way up compared to 15 or 20. What’s the opposite of a dead cat bounce.
On week in ratings won’t really matter, but it will be interesting to see if there is an acceleration in the decline, or or if the decline levels off which is more indicative of the viewership finding a new long term level.
But it is true that a) the sports watching population is more conservative than the general US population, b) the players (including black and Hispanic players) are more conservative than their peers with the same skin color (ie black NFL players are more conservative than general black US population, ditto Hispanic NFL players vs US Hispanics), c) the owners used to be men of the people and they are now self-styled Masters of the Universe safely ensconced in their government subsidized, glass-walled sky boxes, literally lording it over the riffraff that can’t afford triple digit prices to see a game in person. Old man Rooney used to ride the bus with the team and hand out baloney sandwiches for a free lunch to his players. I can’t even imagine Art II eating baloney.
If it gets ugly for the NFL, the problems have been simmering for a long time. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more booing like there was in Boston – not exactly a bastion of Team Red.
A repost of my response last night to an article where Aaron Rodgers asked fans to join the team in protest:
BIG MISTAKE. There was no flack from the crowd last time, because it was a Gold Package Game (Until the late 90s the Packers played two regular season games in Milwaukee. When they stopped playing in Milwaukee the people that held those ‘season’ tickets got given tickets to two games in Green Bay, Gold Package Games) So the last game was filled with Milwaukee fans, who won’t boo at the team for being dipshits in pre-game, but will boo at them during the game like at the end of the second half Sunday. Thursday is regular season ticket holders. Northern Wisconsin Guns, Beer, Jesus, America and the Green Bay Packers types. I don’t think this will go over as well Thursday
Oh, I know there’s not just a single reason for the decline. Sort of like spqr2008’s UPS guy, I have a friend who’s been a pretty good bellwether of which direction conservatives (in general) are leaning. He posted on Sunday that he would be tuning out and working on his golf game. That tells me the NFL has a big problem on top of the other factors that are leading to declining ratings across the board. Will he be coming back or will he decide there are a lot more enjoyable ways to spend a Sunday? Especially after a full day of college ball. I’ve been a sporadic viewer for years because I have young kids, but now I have no desire to watch. Not because of the protests themselves, which I think are stupid but don’t really bother me, but because of sitting through hours of virtue signaling from every single broadcaster on Sunday. Even retarded Chris Collinsworth who looked like he was clueless as to what virtue signaling was, or how to do it, but knew he had to fumble through some attempt at it. I just can’t stand listening to any of those guys anymore. Maybe in a few years with the sound down. Maybe,
I curtailed watching the NFL when they turned October into a boob-cancer eyesore by having everything look magenta followed by the military-fellating camouflage November.
Test #2 doing it the way UCS said.
This one from my phone.
What’s the phone’s browser? (Trying to collate data to narrow down the probable cause)
Safari.
JP Morgan ordered to pay more than $4 billion in damages for mishandling the estate of a former American Airlines executive.
An appeals judge will knock it down to a reasonable number, but they sure crapped the bed.
As I did a quickie check of Senor Villaneuva’s first name, I saw but did not read an article about him being chastised by the Steeler coach. Correct me if I’m wrong, but so far as I am aware no coaches or payers attempted to discipline the protesting wokesters in the early stages of this kabuki jig.
Fucking intellectual/moral consistency- how does it work?
Odds on Villaneuva running for office in the near future? Hell, I’d vote for a guy with the king of balls and honesty to stand up to the herd of cowards like that.
Didn’t the king of balls give a chickenshit apology for his actions the very next day?
Forced into a struggle session? Considering the leverage they have on him I am on the fence about that.
They have no leverage. Tomlin is a known Democrat and would be essentially firing an employee for political views.
Besides, plenty of teams would pick him up.
^^This. Is he any good? Nearly every team could make room for a tackle.
Bears call dibs!
They’ll have to arm wrestle for it from the Cardinals.
He’s good but not exceptional. Probably top 15 to top 20 range, which means he’d find a spot on over half the teams in the league. The line has good coaching, good talent, and consistency. With that, they put up two years of being the one of the best lines in the league.
OK, we will have Kyle Long as our wrassler.
He’d find a spot on ALL teams, not just half. Even the teams with a better player at the position would love to have added depth. Unless the owner or head coach is a staunch Hilary supporter, only the salary cap would prevent a team from hiring him.
You are correct. Although last year the NFL did threaten to fine and discipline a player who wanted to wear cleats with a 9/11 memorial message on them, and also threatened to fine and discipline Dallas Cowboys players who wanted to wear memorial decals on their helmets for the 5 Dallas cops murdered by a BLM supporter.
So yeah, only some messages are worthy of free speech.
In the league’s defense, they have explicit rules about what athletes can wear that they have historically enforced with zeal, because if they fuck it up they loos $$$$$ in sponsorship from labels that pay them to plaster their logo on the players.
In counter to the league, they have demonstrated over and over again that they are run by incompetent, venal, stupid men who are damn lucky to work in an industry so lucrative you can do everything wrong at every turn and still fall ass-backward into a Scrooge McDuck style pile of money. Because God damn they are going to do everything wrong.
The NFL also has explicit rules regarding the national anthem, which they have declined to enforce.
Steelers’ coach hosted fundraisers for Hildebeast. I think it’s fairly safe to say where he stands (or rather kneels) on the issue.
If one of Kapernick’s teammates had grabbed him by the shoulder pads and attempted to force him to stand for the national anthem at some point, I think I would have seen it about a hundred times by now.
That’s because some people have respect for others free speach, even if it offends.
My alma mater had another “racial incident”. Over/under on who it was, and if they’ll ever tell us who it was.
Oh no! Did somebody wrong-think (or pretend to)?
That’s going to take weeks of scolding and stern lectures by woke folks to correct.
Someone printed up a bunch of “brochures” with the Confederate flag on them. Should be pretty easy to find out where they were printed and who paid for it.
The previous “incident” in the spring was someone hanging bananas from trees with some kind of racist note attached. They have never said anything about who may have done it, despite there being a shitload of security cameras around campus. They have never even given out a vague description of the person.
It’s a False Flag Incident.
*narrows gaze*
Actually, they fund the person, and it was the same a-hole that reported it I remember reading, after which the dnc operatives with bylines that had constantly harped on racism in America not only lost interest in the story, but never produced a correction.
A “suspect”??? So it’s illegal to distribute flyers now?
#HateSpeechIsNotFreeSpeech
Also, that suspect looks suspiciously like a construction worker. Per chance do you know if your alma mater in the middle of any renovations or projects?
Suspect is believed to be hanging out with a sailor, Indian, Cop and Cowboy. He may be packing.
Big time.
To be fair to Louisville, a lot of organizations have had those two sleazy motherfuckers as their face.
Does he know that Villanueva backtracked and apologized?
He does. But he also knows it was a confession freely arrived at, and signed willingly, with no coercion whatsoever from the league or team Political Officers.
He was an Army Captain, I’m sure Villanueva knows about going along to get along, even when your Colonel, General, and Chairman of the JCS is full of shit.
Over/under on who it was, and if they’ll ever tell us who it was.
They will not rest until the culprit has been brought to justice. Their best men are on it. They’re working around the clock.
One of these days they’ll get the work order to move the clock.
This is pretty much what the school prez said in an email a couple months ago. Like, what do the fucking security cameras show, and why hasn’t the footage been released?
My guess? The camera show it’s a false flag. The brochures were already seen by other students so the school can’t ignore it less they be called racist, but they also don’t want to go after the people responsible, because their intentions were as pure driven snow. So they quietly mention a racial incident, promise they’re looking into it, then never speak of it again.
Hey, I found another soul looking for advice. This is some fantastic deep. Perhaps ZARDOZ could bestow some words of wisdom to this horny brutal.
*derp, not deep. Damn autocorrect.
Scarcity is an evil patriarchal capitalist myth! If we just embraced marxism everyone would get food, toilet paper, a free unicorn, and STDs!
Also, about her being “repulsed by the idea of being a man’s property,” if you look higher up…
What’s that? Are you trying to claim ownership of a life partner? Why can’t you get a bunch of marxists together to collectively share life partners?
“False scarcity”
Retard doesn’t understand that there is no perpetual motion machine, everything else she says can be disregarded.
Stop mansplaining* entropy, you bourgeoisie oppressor!
*On a side note, I’m happy “mansplaining” still shows up with a red line underneath it. For now, anyeway.
Once it gets hepeated enough, it’ll become an official word.
Hilariously, most of the communes that cropped up in the late 60’s/early 70’s devolved into finger-pointing and accusations of laziness or hoarding or selfishness. They can’t even make their system work on a small scale.
It doesn’t work on a small scale because the attractive feature is the ability to live at the expense of others.
“the type of feminism and anticapitalism I subscribe to”
“I’m a 32-year-old woman who would like to have kids and a life partner in the not-so-distant future”
Apparently her self-righteous views don’t make her happy. But having to change her mind seems far too difficult for her – she is so insane she thinks it is easier to change other people’s minds.
I hope a therapist takes all her money.
“Also, monogamy—like capitalism—requires us to believe in a false scarcity: that we have to struggle for every little bit and that everything we gain comes at someone else’s expense.”
Gained at someone else’s expense? Capitalists aren’t the ones who are slaves to the zero-sum fallacy.
ZARDOZ SPEAKS TO YOU, HIS CHOSEN INQUIRING ONE.
ZARDOZ PREFERS OPTION 3 – BUT WOULD SPEED THE PROCESS OF WITHERING. INDICATE YOUR LOCATION, MARXISTS FEMINIST SLUT, AND ENFORCERS WILL BE SENT TO CLEANSE YOU.
I just have to say on behalf of all of the other practioners of non monogamy out there.
This woman does not represent us.
Her inability to find a “decent guy” who is open to non monogamy has far less to do with decent guys no being into it and far more to do with her obviously injecting her politics into everything. The decent poly guys are not scared off by her desire to have sex with others, they are turned off by having to listen to her drone on about systems of oppression.
Crazy morning, but wanted to say nice work, Sloopy! Despite hating the fucking Eagles, man, that song always makes me smile. Brilliant placement in a brilliant movie.
Twisting, twisting in the wind…
Villanueva apologized on Monday for what he called the team’s ”butchered” plan to have him remain at the front of the line but still out of sight.
While longtime fans took to social media or inundated the team’s headquarters with phone calls and emails in anger, the franchise tried to find a way to clearly explain its stance it stresses wasn’t really a stance at all.
Villanueva, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and defensive end Cam Heyward went to great lengths on Monday to point out the team was not disrespecting the anthem by not participating but simply trying to extricate from the dilemma entirely.
Now I get it. You’re a bunch of gutless shit-gobbling weasels. okay, then.
I saw Tomlin back-peddlin like Flipper on the NFL channel last night, after he pushed Al V under the bus on Sunday.
So I guess this is similar to the gaydar algorithm?

TW: WaPo, I like to use archive.is to deny them the clicks.
men also are more likely to self-report having cheated on a partner.
I was thinking of you, though.
“I taped a picture of you on the back of her head.”
That sounds too complicated. Why not just use a crystal ball or cast some chicken bones?
I’ve actually developed an app that is more than twice as accurate a gay detector than the 90% successful gaydar app the media was plugging the other day.
It’s a single button and when you click it it says “You’re Straight”.
North Korea best Korea #1!

I am seeing more and more the progressive media coming out as straight-up commies. No wonder Tingles was so taken by the chocolate jesus.
I’m seeing the “North Korea isn’t really” communist argument a lot more often now.
Just more tragic state capitalism. Really, the entire country is pretty much private property for the Kims. If we could just get rid of the wreckers and kulaks we could have a true socialist paradise.
Same way the fat boy can afford his harems, private jets, and expensive wine while the country is starving. Every time I think Tingles has delved to his limits of derp he surprises me by sinking to new lows.
That’s the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a long time.
I don’t say that lightly.
That’s really fucking retarded.
Fuck you, Matthews. Jesus fuck.
Has Matthews ever seen the satellite photos of the Korean peninsula at night? Its pretty much what you expect white in the south, with a white dot corresponding to Pyongyang in the north.
From Elite’s marxist slut link: the advice.
And please attend closely to the tone of these conversations—you need to be able to discuss your desires with him without being made to feel immoral, disgusting, or greedy. If such talks give you hope, hang in there! If not, he might not be your future baby daddy.
Don’t let that rotten patriarchical bastard judge you. If he tries to see you through the lens of his puny moralism and ethics, he’s nothing more than a slaveholder. Run. Be free. Get a job as a school teacher, and fuck your students, singly and in groups. Strike a blow for the modern feminist commitariat.
And make a boy’s day.
Yup, how dare he if he decides to judge your actions! Don’t let him slut shame you. What’s sad is this slut might very well find some beta male who is willing to be a cuckold and marry her, knowing she’s going to be having sex with other males while having access to his money. Because to expect monogamy would be patriarchal and oppressive, and this guy will be a male feminist who knows his place.
Darwinism in action. There’s one born every minute.
In my experience women who say things like this completely lose their shit when they find out the guy they are seeing has been playing around on the side.
Of course when she does it she is reclaiming her feminine power and fighting the patriarchy. When he does it he is a god damned rapist shitlord
Are there any Boise, ID reprobates? Errr I mean globs, Glibs (fucking autocorrect) . I would enjoy a shouting match over the superiority of crunchy peanut butter in person.

Also, screw Glenn Fry. The worst of the solo acts to come out of the Eagles.

The best part is reading Arabs who can’t take a joke.
That’s what happens when you’re not exposed to liberty and freedom of expression.
New NYT article: “We had way more awesome parties under Caligula”.
“Sports were far more hardcore under the Aztecs.”
You sure as hell didn’t see athletes kneeling unless it was their turn for ritual sacrifice. Am I right people?
They didn’t even kneel then, they stood and walked up the pyramid before being bent backward over the altar.
You’re right. I did see that Mel Gibson movie.
The Aztecs were great practitioners of open heart surgery.

These people are nuts. Best part is around 8 minutes.
Abe called for an election and dissolved parliament. Mid to late October is the election. ONE FUCKING MONTH. You won’t hear any accusations of Racist! and people will barely notice that an election is coming. Admit it, you’re a little jealous.
The only downside I can see to Japan is no guns. Therefore, could not live there. Tentacle porn almost makes up for it.
Japanese Alt right.
Tentacle porn? *Contemplating a quick Google search”
Yes….let the perv flow through you….
No, see, he’s just doing it to prove to his wife that it’s a thing. Honest.
Admit it, you’re a little jealous.
The part I’m really jealous of is where a Japanese politician can still feel a sufficient sense of shame to commit ritual suicide. When will John McCain get around to falling on his sword?
They commit seppuku because they’re a wee bit disgusting when giving apologies.
The Greeks had it right. Hemlock for the win!
Yes, if you create a system that is designed to allow local facilities to justify their budget based on the patient population and their use of said system, you create an incentive to game the system by getting more patients to show up.

How do they get the capital? How does a country that is starving get the capital to put together those kinds of projects?”
At gunpoint.
duh
I remember when the child development center at Pete said my oldest might be on the spectrum and handed me a checklist of the “warning signs” they look out for. I went through it for myself and informed them that according to their checklist I had autism, and went back to work.
You took the prescription for the Adderall, though, right?
RIGHT?
Adderall is for ADHD which is the opposite of autism.
Adderall? No. Nor will I answer questions about allegations over a cocktail of Redbull, Gatorade and vodka that were associated with me at the time.
You Catholics ready to celebrate the victory over the Muhhomeds at the Battle of Lepanto.
Organizers say they expect up to a million people to participate in the “Rosary on the Borders” event on October 7, the anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto, where “the Christian fleet overcame the Muslim armada, saving Europe from Islamization.”
Besides killing 40,000 Muslims, the Holy League freed 12,000 Christian slaves in the battle.
The middle class doesn’t want a tax cut. It wants better government.
Fuck you WaPo you don’t speak for me.
The two are not mutually exclusive.
My definition of “Better Government” involves much fewer people on the payroll and a drastic reduction in handouts of taxpayer dollars, which will dovetail neatly with tax cuts.
Don’t be an asshole. Government knows how to spend your money better then you.
/sarc
Even if that were true and meaningful, it’s not going to happen. The Democrats have two core competencies, wasting money and handing out free shit. That is not “better government”.
You know frankly I don’t want a tax cut either. At least not right now. Hell I would prefer a tax increase
I would LOVE it if the god damned Republicans would stop talking about taxes altogether and focus on cutting spending. Trade tax increases to the Dems in return for spending cuts and reforms that do away with baseline budgeting and then require that every single program demonstrate that it is effectively meeting the goal the program was created to meet every 6 years or be canceled permanently
The Republicans focus on cutting taxes because it’s visible to the voters and polls well. The Democrats focus on raising spending because it’s visible to the voters and it polls well.
People who want a balanced budget (whether by cutting spending or raising taxes) don’t vote in large enough numbers to really sway either party. When state-level Democrats raise taxes or state-level Republicans cut spending, it’s because they’re forced into balancing the budget.
‘Re: Recent protest/riot at UC Berkely:
David Marquis, who identified himself as a senior at the school, said he was tired of the protests on campus. Marquis was outside the protest area and described the scene.
“If you look at them, it’s ridiculous,” Marquis told the Los Angeles Times. “You’ve got a guy with purple hair with a f—ing lightsaber talking about Hitler. It’s hard for me to take any of this seriously.”’
First they came for the guys with purple with fucking lightsabers, and I said nothing.
Damn. I need an edit feature.
Whaaaaaaat? Someone who actually goes to college to learn and get a degree instead of just protesting all day. Get my fainting couch!
First they came for the guys with purple with fucking lightsabers, and I said
nothing“Hell, yeah! Don’t forget his buddy in cosplaying Rainbow Brite!”.(fist bumps homie)
its a fantasy role-playing game.
How dare you compare the sacred art of LARPing to this commie agitprop!
That scumbag shitbird army LT who loves Che? Yeah, he’s about to receive some serious bulkhead to bulkhead “counseling”, followed by an OTH and being forced to pay back the government for his education. He also blasted Mattis on social media – a real fuckin’ genius, this guy. If there’s one thing even the dumbest boot-ass private knows, its that you cannot, simply CANNOT, publicly disparage the chain of command. Stand the fuck by, Trotsky wannabe.
“OTH”?
Oh, “Other than Honorable”. We recently got told to stop asking if applicants got one of those. But then again, they also stopped asking if people have been convicted of crimes.
Saw a pretty good analysis of options with some mind reading speculation. If the commie wants to he might try to make this a media circus but his command will probably try to do everything possible to quietly get rid of him.
https://twitter.com/jonpalin/status/913039408877649922
This makes sense to me. they wouldn’t court martial him for some technical violation. it would make him a political martyr. instead, administratively fuck him out the door.
Could he face a criminal court martial over this?
He could face a court martial, but after reading the link thepassword posted above, I can see the command not wanting to go that route. If you look at all of the facts, it does become fairly obvious that this clown is begging for a court martial. He wants to be a martyr for the glorious revolution, and get lots of fawning TV coverage, book deals, Harvard fellowships, etc, just like his hero Manning. I can see the Army preferring to quietly taking a blowtorch to his career, giving him some shitty assignments and then pushing him out administratively.
So after reading that long tweet list, best punishment for the guy is to make sure he never gets promoted and give him the worst assignment on planet Earth for a while, before kicking him out and making him pay West Point back. Am I reading this right?
That sums it up fairly accurately, yeah.
Pitino is gone

Please please please don’t give us the death penalty
Arizona is going with the “stupid and incompetent” defense. Yeah, that’s their defense. “How can you expect us to know what is going on in our own organization with our own players?”
Why not? The New York Times got out of a libel suit by claiming its Editors didn’t read the New York Times.
To be fair, their subscription numbers seem to add weight to their claims.
And their fans are even dumber, concocting a bizarre theory that Sean Miller was some kind of whistleblower and secret informant for the feds…..against his own recruits and assistant coach.
Dont worry. It’s the NCAA. Any impropriety at U of Arizona will result in the death penalty; for Northern Arizona University.
As an NAU alumn, I demand you apologize and retract that statement!*
*Not really.
You who else built a successful program and bailed when the going got rough?
The US Military in Iraq?
The girl playing the steak in my daughter’s 8th grade theater production of Madagascar?
McLean Stevenson?
Richard Nixon?
Not asking the important question; why the hell does this guy have a pet black mamba?
http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/suicide-snake-brokenhearted-man-live-11236999
Wasn’t a pet. He was a zookeeper and specialized in reptiles.
I saw that movie, she wants him back at the end! He didn’t follow through correctly.
The creep killed himself to punish his wife for leaving his sorry ass? Disgusting. Good riddance.
Wait…what?
Ummmm…..
Fuckin’ Florida.
That last bit makes the killer clown woman seem less crazy than her beau.

Seconded.
The New York Times got out of a libel suit by claiming its Editors didn’t read the New York Times.
Ahh. The ol’ Sgt Schultz Defense, eh?
Worked for Pitino once, when he claimed he had no idea one of his assistants was procuring hookers for players and recruits.
It’s tempting to say “play stupid games, win stupid prizes” by the fact that he went there at all, but no one deserves this.

When he made that “apology” speech/confession, i was wondering who the hell convinced him this was a good idea. I know he’d likely had no contact with anyone but the norks @ that point, but he had to have known that his only chance of getting negotiated-release was to state flat out that he was being held as a political prisoner and try to rally international pressure.
I’ve always been curious if any other diplomats had ever had access to him prior to that episode, or if he were actually advised to play the guilty part for leniency. Something about it simply doesn’t add up.
‘Mr. Positive Battery Terminal,’ ‘Mr. Negative Battery Terminal,’ and Ms. ‘I haven’t slept for two weeks.’
Though your point that someone may have advised him to plead guilty for leniency—which would have the effect of causing him to disappear from the papers immediately afterwards—is exactly the kind of craven cynical bullshit we’ve come to expect from the State Department.
Two other points that I may have made here earlier about this: First, the Norks sending him back in this condition is as gigantic a “Fuck You!” as their using VX to off Un’s half brother in Malaysia. It signifies that they aren’t going to abide by any established rules of diplomatic behavior and you can expect no goodwill from them. How hard would it have been to just say that he caught a bug in prison, died, and was cremated?
Second, that we are hearing about stories like Warmbier’s now tells me that the negative propaganda against NK is heating up, and is the sort of thing our society does to work itself up to getting comfortable with using significant military force against an evildoer. Though I use the term propaganda, I’m not saying the stories aren’t true.
i have no doubt he was coerced. but i also think – and maybe im wrong, but the media was very vague about it – that he had to have had some contact with some 3rd party (non nork) before being forced to make his confession. don’t have time to make detailed case, but even non-signatories to geneva conventions are careful not to get too-far away from basic norms of intl law.
whether that was ICRC or HRW or the US State dept, i don’t know. in any case, he should have known that a staged confession was only going to make his situation worse.
i don’t know if anyone will ever be able to shed more light on the thing than has happened so far.
as for the issue of “propaganda” – i don’t really see it that way. the Norks literally seized and murdered an American citizen for a trivial offense. You don’t need to add any government spin to that fact to make it a horrifying fact.
There has never really been a time in the past when we weren’t engaged in a adversarial posture w/ the norks. even when we were feeding them during their famine, their rhetoric couldn’t have been more blustery-aggressive. I don’t really think any of the US/NK smack-talking is any prelude to actual war; each side spits venom, but mostly in the background the real issue is “china”, and how both US and NK are trying to influence their involvement.
On the one hand, it looks similar to stories in the US about the horrors of Saddam’s regime, and how we needed to stop him. The details about ripping his teeth out with pliers or the noises he was making as he was carried off the airliner. On the other hand, as you note, things have always been heated between the US/SK and NK, like: Shooting down that EC-121 and killing 30 SigInt spooks in the early 70s, the Ax incident, trying to assassinate the SK President with something right out of “Olympus Has Fallen,” and a bunch of others. For awhile, it seemed like an every other year occurrence that a dozen NK commandos would be running around the SK countryside killing people while the SK armed forces tried to round them up. Talking with people who’ve served in the US units near the DMZ, there’s been a few other incidents that didn’t make the papers.
North Korea until recently (maybe they still do it, I dunno), made a habit of kidnapping Japanese citizens to serve as language guides and sex slaves. They traffic an astounding amount of meth to the Far East. Which is another interesting idea: in a culture that had ‘death by overwork’ as a unique neologism, what were stimulant use rates and how does it compare with other places?
Anyway, they don’t seem to ever pay attention to the fine details of international niceties. I don’t find it unlikely that Mr. Warmbier was tortured and brainwashed prior to his ever meeting a third party from a NGO, perhaps with added threats against his family if he mentioned his treatment. Further, I’m cutting him some slack as a prisoner and as a kid, to not realize that admitting guilt was going to cause him more agony as it would provide a convenient excuse for everyone to stop talking about him.
I see the US as pressuring/negotiating with China to try and get NK to abandon its nuclear deterrent. Evidently China is sanctioning NK a bit, which probably is the cause of NK’s increasingly unhinged rhetoric. However with NK possessing a meaningful nuclear deterrent—one that can reasonably be expected to strike CONUS—the US is absolutely committed to ensuring the survival of the Un regime, along with the generals that really run the place. If the regime falls, they will be killed, they know it, and I see no reason why they won’t push the button before they are ripped apart by their populace. Ergo, the US and China are invested in making sure they don’t fall. Plus, there’s the risk of an accidental launch, or of NK selling some of those devices to a less-reticent third party. Also, while radiochemistry can be a precise thing, I doubt we have sample coupons of fissionable material from NK, and so the idea that we can trace a hypothetical nuclear explosion 100% to NK is a pipe dream.
I have no faith the US missile defense will actually work to meaningfully attrit a NK nuclear strike against the US, and while NK nuclear weapons cannot kill even a significant percentage of the US populace, the shock and economic dislocation from a fusion explosion within an American city will mean the end of US Constitutional democracy as we know it. SWAG, set off 150 kt in, e.g., downtown Seattle, we’d be looking at somewhere between 100 billion to nearly a trillion USD in economic direct and consequential damages, with about 100,000 dead and about a third of a million other casualties. I doubt our economy would survive it.
Sorry for the length.
Seattle is the North Korea of US cities.
Krugabe would be able to test his broken windows theories if they did nuke us. No lessons would be learned.
Yeah, being tortured to death is a pretty steep price to pay for being a little naive. My heart goes out to the parents.
On the other hand, Chris Matthews says North Korea has some great infrastructure, so it’s all good.
Their power grid is World-Famous!
It certainly is.
*looks at google earth night time images, notes black hole that is NK
They murdered that kid, plain and simple.
That was a tough read, I gotta say. That regime is vile, and the fact that there are some people in the media trying to sugarcoat and make excuses for it is…unsettling.
Hell there are loads of Stalin apologists out there; the closest thing to an unlimited resource we have is human stupidity.
Kristen, I may have read it here, and it isn’t mine, but, “Our society is so divided now that, if there was actually a zombie apocalypse starting, you’d have marches for zombie rights and protests against zombie oppression, the very next day.”
So it’s very sad, but not surprising, that our chattering classes are willing to ignore the evil that is North Korea and Communist China.
Well, it’s true.
Didn’t I just see a story about Tingles praising the regime? I am convinced that the ones we have here are no less evil they just cant act on it here.
Tingles wouldn’t last a month in Norkland before his fucking mouth would get him into trouble
Hell, I won’t even go to Cleveland. Even if Warty was my body guard
“If you look at them, it’s ridiculous,” Marquis told the Los Angeles Times. “You’ve got a guy with purple hair with a f—ing lightsaber talking about Hitler. It’s hard for me to take any of this seriously.”’
*tiny glimmer of hope appears, hovers nervously in background*
most people – even many on the left – actually feel this way re: the SJW madness.
the problem is that they are a generation of pussies, and are willing to let the crazies run the show as long as they themselves are left alone. it basically cedes social credibility to the nutjobs.
in our generation, the reaction was to point and laugh at them, and socially ostracize ‘extremists’. I had peers in college who were both extreme right and left-wingers. its just that if they chimed up in class with any of their hysterical nonsense, the entire room would groan and go, “grow the fuck up you loser”.
So they confined themselves to speaking on fringe issues no one else cared about, where they would be free to have little petit-conflicts with their ideological adversaries. What theuy didn’t do is command the respect and attention of everyone in the school, or force the administration to cater to their craziness.

That point applies more broadly, as well. Even among the non-pussy population. I first really became aware of this phenomenon a long time ago. I had a bunch of friends who were school teachers in Colorado Springs, and the guys who just wanted to be in the classroom teaching kids stuff ceded, by indifference, control of the union to a bunch of hard core politically active assholes who wanted to strike over work rules (as I recall) and other bullshit picayune political matters which were at least as important to them as take-home pay.
Several long term friendships were destroyed.
This is the constant battle of those who want to be left the fuck alone and those that want to dictate people’s lives.
The power hungry ones always win, because they are the ones with no higher priorities to pursue.
Cost / benefit analysis keeps a lot of mouths shut and a lot of mouths fed.
World’s sexiest athlete?

While definitely attractive, Julie Johnston would like a word.
Wow, the hottest ones I have seen were female pole vaulters. Hotter than that chick by a long shot.

The runner chick is a bit thin. Not bad mind you, but the runner chick doesnt have the shape and tone of the ones riding the pole.
*appeal to the eye isnt the same as appeal in bed
I dated a serious runner for a long time, and while i made exceptions for her, i don’t really think female runner’s bodies can stay ‘sexy’ very long. they get lean and rangey and boney in places that you’d sometimes rather they… not. (e.g. hips) the lack of any fat at all, especially in places like around the shoulders and neck, tend to quickly turn from ‘graceful and slender’ to ‘skeletal’.
now, tennis players, on the other hand….
Reaction
Michelle Jenneke hardest hit.
Yep, exactly the one I had in mind as well.
If she can catch me she can have me.
Owwwww. I got a Charlie horse
the ones riding the pole.
You’re not even trying.
Sad
