Firearms Friday: Vhyrus After Dark

I wasn’t going to even do a FF this week since there wasn’t much to talk about, but I’m sitting here at work not wanting to work so I figured fuck it, let’s go for it.

The big story: D.C. will officially be ‘shall issue’ come next week. Unless of course they try to weasel out of it, which they will, so don’t hold your breath. Interestingly not a single judge on the panel voted for En Banc. A sign of the times?

The big non-story: The SHARE act did not come up for a vote this week (at least not of this writing). So a big fuck you very much to congress, who once again can’t do shit that everyone wants. No link, cause how can you link to something NOT happening?

The PMag is now authorized for requisition by the US Army at a unit level, putting it one step away from mass adoption as GI equipment for the entire US military. Yes, I know how unimportant this is in the broad scheme of things. It’s a slow week.

If you look in the dictionary for ‘hypocrisy’, you may find an entry for Camiella Williams, a self admitted juvenile gang banger turned anti gun activist that has her concealed carry license and regularly carries a gun while working to strip other people of those same rights. Can I get a fuck off slaver?

Who wants a 10mm hi-point carbine? I think I might!

Bass Pro Shops officially closes the deal on the buyout of Cabelas for $4 billion dollars. I always liked Cabelas more than Bass Pro so I don’t have high hopes for this one.

Here’s an awesome video of transparent suppressors being used in slow motion.

Finally today, I leave you with a sad bit of news. It is with deep emotion that I announce that CarnikCon is officially dead. The channel and all of the videos have been officially removed from Youtube by the creator, Dugan Ashley.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=84WcNJNkU0Y

Goodnight, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Luckily someone was smart enough to archive all of the videos for posterity. Some heroes don’t wear capes.

I can still see the sun, you know.

    1. Nephilium

I think that just means you’re in the wrong time zone.

    2. It’s been a year since it’s been clear.

      1. Tundra

        Link the damn song, Ted.

        One of my favorites.

    3. straffinrun

Me too. I’m staring straight at it.

      1. Gustave Lytton

But mama, that’s where the fun is.

  2. Sean

    “Fuck off slaver”

    Hypocrisy. She has it.

  3. Timeloose

10mm carbine I’m in as well. 10mm makes a better rifle / SMG round than a pistol round. It needs barrel length to couple all that energy.

    1. Sean

I’m intrigued by the 10mm cartridge, but damn…I don’t want to stock yet another caliber.

      1. SIV

You need a Colt Delta Elite. Then the Hi-point 10mm carbine won’t be “another caliber”.

    2. Count Potato

I’ve read the 10mm MP-5’s aren’t as good. No idea if anyone makes a .40 SMG.

      1. Vhyrus

        They do. Ive seen it.

    3. 10mm, yes, interesting – but I have yet to see the product from Hi-Point that appeared to be worth more than the gunpowder it would take to blow it to hell.

      1. RegicidalManiac

I’ve got a friend with a 9mm carbine, and he thinks it’s great. It’s ugly as hell, but it’s reliable. And that matches what I’ve heard about them in general: carbines are reliable, pistols are less so, and they’re all ugly as homemade sin.

I would like a 10mm carbine to go with my 1911.

  4. Why didn’t he shift to vid.me like Styxhexenhammer666, etc?

    1. Vhyrus

This wasn’t a protest against YouTube or anything like that. Dugan ended carnikcon years ago but he just recently decided to wipe the channel. I listened to an interview with him and I’m pretty sure he’s mildly autistic or has aspebergers cause he seems very prone to impulse and has a very strange way of speaking when he’s not in character. He probably just said fuck it.

  5. DOOMco

I missed out on him, apparently.

If you look in the dictionary for ‘hypocrisy’, you may find an entry for Camiella Williams

She wouldn’t be the only one

Feinstein, who has taken the lead on efforts to renew a federal assault weapons ban, acknowledged during a hearing in 1995 of previously having a concealed weapon permit.

OK, Feinstein has given up the permit, but she never should have gotten one given her position on gun control laws.

    1. kbolino

she never should have gotten one given her position

Given what happened to Harvey Milk and the fact that she could have been targeted too, I don’t blame her.

But, what makes her a hypocrite is that now she’s a Senator, she gets to enjoy 24/7 protection, and she can afford to hire private protection if she ever retires (she’ll never get voted out) since she got rich from being a Senator.

  7. straffinrun

It was a wig? Had no idea. Just thought he washed his hair with Crisco. In case you want to know what it feels like getting shot in forehead in a good way, there’s this.

    1. westernsloper

Holy shit. The NYT printed that? Has the when they will have an “accident” pool been started yet?

“But in one of his final attempts to normalize relations with Cuba, President Barack Obama in January ended the program, which had allowed Cuban doctors stationed in other countries to get permanent residency visas for the United States.”

    FUCK OFF SLAVER

    1. Tundra

Mike put some new pics on MU. Check it out.

      1. DOOMco

        that floor!

        1. Tundra

Right? We may have to make a pilgrimage to MT to check it out.

          1. DOOMco

            would.

          2. mikey

Anytime. Bring the Toy – lots two- track just minutes away.

          3. DOOMco

            Can do!

          4. Tundra

Mike, I’m thinking about adding the dual oil/water gauge to mine. Is it a bitch?

          5. mikey

” I’m thinking about adding the dual oil/water gauge to mine. Is it a bitch?”
Should be easy enough in the Spit – can’t beat the access!.
The part is a standard Brit device.
Just run a plastic tube from the oil part to where ever you oil pressure sensor is. If you’ve got a light I’d put in a T so you can keep it.
The capillary tube just needs a path. It’s easy to bend by hand. One trouble is you’ll have way longer than you’ll. It’s sealed at both end and comes in an 82″ length. Folks usually just make a coil of it in front of the fire wall.
Should be a pretty easy R&R of your temp gauge.
Check on a Spit list to be sure. The only trouble I’d see is the threads in the block for the capillary tube

          6. Tundra

Thanks. I’m pretty sure there is an adapter for the capillary tube. My concern was what you wrote on MU – the oil dripping onto your leg!

I’ll look for one. I’d like an oil gauge.

    2. westernsloper

She might be a slaver but I am going to cut her some slack. I think she is misguided with some new found appreciation for the second amendment. I listened to the link, because you have to listen to what NPR puts out to fully gather the magnitude of their horseshit. You can’t discern it through text. They blame her owning a gun on her trauma from all the “gun violence”, completely washing over the fact she wants to protect her kid and that it is her right to own a gun to do so. Who knows, she may even become one of us one day.

  9. Sean

Marvel ‘s Inhumans started tonight. The only character I recognize is Lockjaw.

    1. Scruffy Nerfherder

Tetanus shot should help with that.

    2. thrakkorzog

Which only raises the inevitable question of where the hell Lockjaw came from. So is he a dog with superpowers, or is he just some poor bastard that got the fuzzy end of the lollypop, and got turned into a dog with teleportation powers?

Overall, It was OK, I thought Roose Bolton did a pretty good job as Maximus, (Man that actor is getting typecasted) the rest was kind of generally OK.

  10. SIV

Will that 10mm High Point be offered in the old classic Planet of the Apes styling?

  11. SIV

Bass Pro sucks. Cabela’s is great but pricey. I’m wearing Meindel Perfekt Hikers right now.

    1. westernsloper

You comment on the trail? Impressive.

      1. Playa Manhattan

        By trail, you mean cockfight?

        1. SIV

Sperry Gold Cups are my preferred footwear for both boating and blood sports.

          1. westernsloper

The original Gold Cups were hard to come by a couple three decades ago. A short search reveals they call every other shoe they make now a “Gold Cup”. The originals were the best boat shoes ever made.

          2. SIV

The insides of my first pair (in amaretto) were elk but they’re all sheep now, I think. The newer ones don’t come with the fancy gold leaf emblazoned drawstring travel bag either. My newest pair is in “seahorse and seem a cut above the other Gold Cups in material quality and construction. I walk a lot, and never wear socks, so the previous pair (with rotted insoles and worn soles) are everyday beaters and warm-weather stream waders.

Considering they get $95 for the plain boat shoe in leather now the new Gold Cups are well worth the extra $60-$70.

          3. westernsloper

I am talking original when the Gold Cup was different from the topsider. It had a thicker sole. Back in the mid 80’s. They stopped making it. In the late 80’s my then wife searched far and wide to buy me a pair because they discontinued it. I finally threw that pair away ten or fifteen so years ago because the sole was hard as 50 year old breast implants.

          4. SIV

Gold Cups still have a different sole than the Topsider. The insoles and lining are non-bovine leather but the main appeal on the newer ones is more cushioning. They offered them in real crocodile about 15 years ago (at a ridiculously high 3 -figure price) I’m sure some people got a deal on closeout. As I indicated above, they used to be an extravagance over the old $35-45 price of Topsiders but they’re only 50-60% more now. All the full leather Sperrys are durable enough that that is pennies per wear. I’ve never not worn a pair of shoes or boots completely out. It’s not worth re-soling much of anything (outside of a warranty) anymore.

          5. Playa Manhattan

I assumed that those went together, in international waters.

  12. DOOMco

Tundra, that kid of yours still thinking about CU?

    1. Tundra

MInes. And yes, he got accepted.

      1. Lackadaisical

Does Mines do anything besides engineering?

        1. Tundra

          More engineering 😉

Sure, but it’s mostly scienc-y stuff.

          1. Lackadaisical

Anyway, congrats to him. I know it is a respected school in my universe.

          2. Tundra

            What universe is that?

          3. Lackadaisical

            Civil engineering.

      2. DOOMco

        My mistake! Nice!

        1. Tundra

Yeah, we’ll see. He’s been accepted a couple other places, but it always come down to the deal, right?

I will be happy if we can make it work. Golden is awesome.

          1. DOOMco

Well if you want a spot down here for a visit, we have room.
Golden is great. I went there last for nepalese food.

          2. Tundra

Huh. We stayed about 300 yards away from there when we went to visit. Looks awesome!

          3. DOOMco

It’s delicious, if anyone around here is curious.

          4. DOOMco

Yak stew and naan. They make their own beer, too. pretty tasty stuff.

          5. Playa Manhattan

I could really go for some yak naan.

          6. Raven Nation

And only 10 minutes from Applejack.

          7. DOOMco

            I have hazels for booze.

          8. Raven Nation

Looks like some good prices. I’m usually on I70 headed toward the western slope so Boulder is not on the way.

          9. DOOMco

No one should drive out of their way to go to Boulder.

          10. RegicidalManiac

Doom, I disagree, hilariously. For all its faults (and there are many!), I love Boulder. It’s worth seeing. Go up Flagstaff to the Sunrise Amphitheater (where I’m getting married next summer) and you get a great view of the Boulder valley. The CU campus is gorgeous, Pearl Street is at least entertaining, and you can get fantastic food and fantastic beer all over the town.

          11. DOOMco

But you’ve met the people here, right??
            I’m surrounded!!!

It does look nice. and the beer keeps me happy.

          12. RegicidalManiac

I found it helped to drink a lot and be heavily armed. That kept me from realizing as much how outnumbered I was, and helped me worry less when I did realize it.

The people are just… half a step away from brain dead, though. You ain’t wrong there.

      3. Q Continuum

Mines is where I got my PhD.

        1. Tundra

          Thoughts?

          1. Q Continuum

Pros: Awesome school, very academically rigorous, from what I remember not much SJW nonsense, “short tour” at the Coors Brewery, good campus culture with fun events, especially E-days

Cons: Golden, while absolutely great, is not what I’d call a quintessential college town, only a couple of student-friendly bars, but he can ride the train to Denver (didn’t exist when I was there), wasn’t an issue for me as much as a grad student but undergrad population is 75% (!) male so dating could be tricky, can be competitive, make no mistake it is a tough school for smart kids, on par with top tech schools

Summary: He’ll get an outstanding education and be very well prepared for a high paying job in engineering or tech. Fun activities with a small tight-knit campus. Golden is great. He won’t have the “traditional” college experience he’d get at a big state school with football, frat party blowouts and legions of slutty co-eds (I’m sure you want to hear that as a Dad), but if he wants smart, fun, quirky people with great job prospects, it’s a great choice.

          2. Tundra

Thanks, Q. He’s aware of the ratio, but he’s also pretty confident! A big thing for him is access to the outdoor experience. He’s a snowboard instructor/coach, a fishing freak and generally an outdoors kid. He’s also shockingly serious about school – very competitive.

I had more of the traditional college experience and looking back it was meh. With how expensive it has become, a good jump on the career is definitely a positive.

            I appreciate your input.

          3. Q Continuum

Sounds like he’d be a good fit for it. I highly recommend it, just want to make sure he (especially as an undergrad) knows what he’s getting into. It’s a great place and Golden really is awesome.

          4. Tundra

            What did you study?

          5. Q Continuum

            Physics.

So I jumped around a lot, I went to U of Arizona for BS, U of Miami for MS and Mines to wrap it up. Each had their pluses and minuses, but I’d say Mines had the most tight knit campus culture.

World renowned programs in Geophysics, Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering and Metallurgy. Great in everything else, the only program I’d warn him off from is Mathematics, don’t think it’s the best for that. What is he planning on studying?

          6. westernsloper

One of my best friends went to Mines. A handful of others to CU. I visited both but only to drink free frat beer and be stupid as I was not near smart enough to attend either. Granted we are talking years and years and years ago, but my buddy who went to Mines, his ambitions where to climb every 14’r in the state on his off time. He eventually did it. That on top of an engineering degree. They had the bartender short tour time figured out at the brewery and had a pat method to score a bunch of free beer. It was impressive. Leave a problem to a bunch of engineering students and they will figure out how to score the most free beer.

Football and sleazy coeds is but a short drive to boulder.

          7. Tundra

What is he planning on studying?

I don’t think he knows for sure. MechE appeals.

Leave a problem to a bunch of engineering students and they will figure out how to score the most free beer.

            I’m counting on it!

        2. Fodder

My father got his Eng Metallurgy degree from Mines back in ’48. Do they still give out solid silver diplomas?

          1. Q Continuum

            Only for PhDs.

          2. That is AWESOME

I can confirm that everything in that article is wrong, including the words “and” and “the”.

      1. westernsloper

        Even this?

Climate change has made California hotter and drier, a boon to bugs that destroy vegetation

I am pretty sure that no bugs that can kill a plant live in moist climates.

        1. Tundra

          LA is a desert, no?

          1. westernsloper

Yes, it is. The climate weirdos won’t admit that though. It is in a drought dontcha know. I was just pointing out bugs that kill plants kind of live in every sort of climate.

          2. Tundra

Ah, yes. Even on the frozen tundra we have vegetation-decimating bugs.

  15. Who wants a 10mm hi-point carbine?

I was unimpressed with the 9mm. It is the only gun I’ve fired that left the ejected brass blackened on the outside, and you had to buy an aftermarket body to get a real rail. The trigger guard on the stock frame is too small, and the bolt handle is uncomfortable (again, unlress replaced).

I know it is dirt cheap, but there’s a difference between inexpensive and cheap.

A Pennsylvania State University-Brandywine professor thinks college faculty need to do more to undermine their students’ belief in “meritocracy” and the value of “hard work.”
The students are “are socialized to believe that we got to where we are…because of our own individual efforts,” according to the prof, who wants colleagues to stop “perpetuating and reifying whiteness.”

A Pennsylvania State University-Brandywine professor criticized her students’ belief in “meritocracy” and “hard work” in an academic article published Thursday.

Angela Putman, who teaches public speaking at Penn State-Brandywine, designed a comprehensive three-day seminar on “white privilege” for her students, then interviewed 12 attendees on their belief in meritocracy and equal opportunity.

To her dismay, Putman discovered that these “whiteness ideologies” were widely endorsed by students, many of whom agreed that “if I work hard, I can be successful” and that “everyone has an equal opportunity to achieve success.”

Dismissing meritocracy as a mere social construct, Putman argues that students “are socialized to believe that we got to where we are… because of our own individual efforts,” especially in classroom settings.

“Thus, whiteness ideologies may be reproduced through a general acceptance and unchallenging of norms, as well as through everyday discourse from a wide variety of racial positionalities,” she adds.

    Spot the Not: actual professors

    1. This professor recently published an article in support of “deconstruction” of “whitestream cherished knowledge”. His article was a part of Whiteness and Education’s “White Scholars Working Against Whiteness” issue. He currently teaches Critical White Studies and he hopes to restructure his curriculum to address racial issues in better ways.

    2. This professor of political science presented Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, and Kim Il Sung as examples of right-wing authoritarians, because according to him, authoritarianism is inherently right-wing. Countries like the USSR and Venezuela are the result of state capitalism. He founded a paramilitary youth organization which pledges loyalty to Bernie Sanders.

    3. This professor of Women’s and gender studies at Arizona State University, believes women have been, more or less, brainwashed by “the patriarchy” and “sexism” to ignore the “liberatory, political, and social implications of fatness.” The professor, who holds a PhD in clinical psychology and women’s studies from the University of Michigan, came to this conclusion after she conducted an experiment in which all 20 of her subjects “expressed terror at the thought of suddenly gaining 100 pounds.”

    4. This professor of mathematics at Augustana College, says “Math is not apolitical”. He also stated that “Mathematics is centered on cisgender, straight, white males, and our silence allows that default to dominate”. The professor, who has a PhD from Texas-Austin, also says his math class should be called “Controversial Mathematics”.

    5. This Canadian scholar and professor of philosophy and law, claimed conservatives are “truth-deniers” and therefore don’t “fit in” on campuses causing them to be outnumbered by liberals. The professor who teaches at Balliol College, Oxford University, and Queen’s University also said “Maybe [conservatives] can take comfort in the welcoming company they can find in America’s churches, legislatures, and even its courts. Those who think views in the college should mirror votes in the electoral college are bound to feel cheated.”

    6. She was a professor at Essex County College, in New Jersey. She appeared on Fox News, to talk with Tucker Carlson about why whites were not allowed to be a part of the Black Lives Matter Memorial Day Celebration. She responded with some very controversial comments that then followed her back to her home school. There have been various reports of her publicly humiliating and grading down students who make mention of this interview. She was released about a month after the interview, although much controversy about her release ensued, and she is expected to be reinstated due to multiple petitions by students, and a possible lawsuit defending her fundamental right to free speech.

      7. This professor of applied linguistics and TESOL regularly contributes pictorials of scantly-clad, callipygous women to a group political blog. He also once dropped E and went on 32-hour bender of masturbation to Shiori Tsukada porn videos.

      1. straffinrun

Had me wondering when Glibs started allowing ads until I realized you posted that.

        1. Heroic Mulatto

Wait until our merch storefront is up!

      2. KSuellington

I love callipygous women the most.

    2. DenverJ

5 is the not; Canada is a myth.

      1. westernsloper

Nope it is 1. I have been to AZ and FL and have seen the license plates. Canada is real.

    3. Tundra

4 is the not. SoDak is better than that.

    4. thrakkorzog

Hmm, well, I definitely know 6 exists, since I saw that interview with Tucker Carlson, and she came off as the world’s most sanctimonious asshole.

I’m pretty sure fatness studies is a thing and I’m not exactly shocked at the notion that a professor of gender and Women’s and gender studies proposed that. Probably while surrounded by her 6 cats.

I doubt a smug Canadian Law professor gives a shit about the electoral college, because that is how those barbaric Americans do things.

So with about half the field narrowed down, I’m going to guess #2 as the not, with #4 as my second guess.

  20. straffinrun

I’m at my kid’s Sport’s Day at her elementary school. All 700 kids perform choreographed routines (too Norkish for my taste) and compete in races. I’ve had a dozen or so kids I don’t know point at me and shout, “It’s (so and so’s) papa!”. Hope I’m as popular with their moms.

    1. kbolino

Japanese education seems to have an odd mix of being more conformist than American education but also more focused on individual achievement.

      1. straffinrun

First you fit in the box, then you can excel without making people angry. You’re right about conformity. The kid’s shoes, for example, are often the only article of clothing they have discretion over when wearing a uniform, so they all look the same, but each with funky, individualist footwear.

        1. KSuellington

My wife is away so I have full charge of the three boys, finally got them down about twenty minutes ago. The four year old’s Catholic pre school had a little Mexican fiesta. It would have shocked the cultural appropriation crowd. Mustaches and maracas were handed out walking in. Probably the most impressive thing about Catholic schools here is that every event they have copious booze and/or encourage you to bring your own. The kids bounced their asses off, ate some tacos and churros and wore themselves out as dad had several Sierra Nevadas. Three block home was nice.

          1. straffinrun

Beer? Lucky bastard. Tea here. BTW, your comment to “The Germans deserved it” of “Especially the children” was perfect.

          2. KSuellington

Thanks! That kind of got lost in the thread and was late.

            Prost!

          3. KSuellington

Thinking about it, a couple weeks before I did a job for a very sweet old German lady. She was talking to me the whole time I worked and told me some stories of the war and how she has gotten shit for being a German alive at that time. She was a kid. “I only remember the war as a terrible time. We were always hungry.”

    1. westernsloper

He is in BC? I thought they just grew pot there.

  21. CPRM

After drunkenly writing an e-mail to my boss demanding a raise…I got a raise. Things worked out. Drinking in celebration. Cheers to you other late night glibs!

    1. straffinrun

Screwed your courage to the drunken post, eh?

    2. Los Doyers

So, your boss was drunk too? Nice

  22. Somalian Road Corporation

OK, now that I’m off work and catching up… I saw ENB’s latest idiocy linked earlier.

You know, when it’s her, Rico Suave, SuderMcWeigel, etc., supposedly carrying the banner of individual rights (and getting paid pretty well to do a godawful job of it), it really makes one wonder at times about controlled opposition.

    1. Playa Manhattan

Are they paid pretty well? ENB was complaining about not having enough money for a train ticket, but that could just be because of all of the artisanal cocktails and Pabst.

      1. Somalian Road Corporation

Well, the IRS sez the Jacket is getting around 226k a year compensation from Reason Foundation… I dunno if you want to believe Glassdoor on the lesser positions.

There’s also the factor of my uncharitable opinion that, if anything, they should be paying us to read that dreck, and not the other way around. Hence no more donations on my part anymore. Any amount is too much.

        1. Playa Manhattan

Any universe where Gillespie makes that much is unjust.

If you factor in the sexual harassment settlements that they’re inevitably going to have to pay out on his behalf, his compensation is probably quite a bit higher.

          1. Gustave Lytton

            What?

      2. thrakkorzog

That Fruit Sushi isn’t free you know.

    2. DOOMco

im mad at myself for commenting.

      1. KSuellington

I made my most negative comment I have ever made there on that Robbie article about the Hat. I kind of feel bad for them, but then I don’t. Don’t steal. This is a very basic thing. How you can fuck that up and claim to be in the liberty camp I do not know.

  23. SIV

    Fucking snowflakes

I went from 180 to 150 (at 6′ 1.5″) my freshman year at State U. I had to sell blood plasma just to see the Ramones!

    1. DOOMco

Fuck, am I not supposed to be 150?

    2. Playa Manhattan

      Not pictured: starving students

      1. Festus

It appears that they could both benefit from the “Apple Diet” that I lived on as an actual starving student. Two weeks of apples, crackers and black tea (roommate skipped on the rent). Them ham-hocks look meaty!

    3. thrakkorzog

I feel for you. My inner arms are slightly better than a heroin addict’s I’ve got so much freaking scar tissue developed over years of selling plasma for beer and pizza money.

      1. That takes me back – sold plasma for 2 or 3 years as well – $50/week. Figured I was helping 8-16x as many folks as if I was donating whole blood.

        1. R C Dean

Same here (except for the part about caring who I helped). Plasma gets you more money to buy ramen with.
