Boy was I ever wrong about the Dodgers-Diamondbacks series. But seriously, what was the manager thinking with his pitching decisions? I mean, throw your best pitcher opposite Kershaw. Dude doesn’t have the best track record in the postseason and you all but give them that game? Elsewhere in the NL, the Cubs and Nationals are deadlocked at 1. Meanwhile, the AL East finally stepped up as the Red Sox and Yankees both clawed a game back in their divisional series. Indians and Astros will each get a chance to close out again today, as will the Dodgers. And in Chicago, the Cubs and Nats will seek to get the upper hand in Game 3.
In football news, the Oklahoma Sooners laid an egg. The Longhorns set a big OT win. There was a 7-OT game. THE Ohio State University absolutely pulverized Maryland. But there was one in-state game that gave me the lulz. Congrats to the Spartans for going into the big house and taking care of TTUN once again. What’s that make Jimmy in rivalry games now, 1-4? And at $10M a season…
I’ll get y’all a hockey update later in the week. I wanted to get a little more into thew season before talking shit. Four days isn’t enough. Anyway, let’s go ahead and roll into…the links!
Trump lays out his immigration enforcement plan. Dems lose their shit because he’s actually said they’re going to have to compromise if he’s going to give them DACA amnesty. I guess they’re not used to someone actually holding them to the same standard of compromise they demand out of Team Red (which is “you give us all this and we promise to give you something later”).
The Weinstein Company has fired their namesake. I wonder when the next wave of people will come out and say on the record they knew he was serially harassing and abusing women while they sat silent for decades. So far the Nuremberg defense seems to pass muster for the left. No comment yet from any of the talk show hosts or SNL. Big fucking surprise there.
New gun legislation on the move through the House. And its not what you think.
We might want to get those military bases set up in Israel or wherever else over there. Because our relationship with Turkey is getting a little frosty to say the least.
Any hurricane-caused death is tragic. But when your throat gets slashed during a brawl, I think the hurricane designation might be a little off. Global Warming: it’ll lop your head off if you’re not careful.
Austin City Limits kicks off. And there was eye candy.
Have a great start to the week. Don’t forget, this is the day we celebrate Columbus finding the new world.
T-minus 40 minutes!
Nuts…work IT won’t let me see that.
I don’t know what you’re talking about. Don’t you get phony holidays like Columbus Day off?
I don’t work for the government or a bank.
I work in finance and somehow I don’t get Columbus day off. 🙁
It’s “Indigenous Peoples Day” now, you savage.
Fuck that noise.
Unless these advocates are willing to climb the pyramid to become a blood sacrifice, they’re not going to change the name of my holidays.
(Plus once they’re done, we can just change it back…)
Do they let you view Youtube?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB4N4xF2B2w
No…drat. I might use my phone when it is about time to lift off.
Iridium, heavily subsidized by the U.S. DoD.
Which is probably why they’re launching from Vandenberg. Beautiful part of the country. I used to love seeing the jagged contrails from various Minutemen and others they’d launch from there.
Launching from Vburg because the sats are built in AZ, so much easier to transport.
Allows for a polar orbit much more than KSC too.
I just put some iridium plugs in my Tacoma yesterday. When did step one for changing plugs become “disassemble the entire engine”?
Subsidized or utilized?
Yeah, they don’t just give us money. They buy shit from us and we have several govt-only products & services.
In short, DoD became the prime customer (such that the post-bankruptcy Iridium could survive). That may change with the new constellation/service, but the original system put Motorola into bankruptcy because the market wasn’t there.
There was some exceptionally cool engineering involved with the original and presumably the follow-on.
Motorola had a lot more contributing to their decline than just Iridium.
I remember doing a group interview of the lead SATCOM engineers for another reason right after Motorola announced they were dissolving the division. Those were some sad folks.
T minus 5 minutes. I didn’t know they had a 1 second launch window for this one.
Yeah, it’s always an instantaneous window because of the configuration of the constellation. Math n’ shit.
Great if you can hit it. I’m surprised the terminal stage can’t give enough delta-V to provide more margin, but that’s why they make the big money.
Just about 1 minute to go.
That CEO, or whatever, that just gave the sales pitch…he was talking to us, the viewer, but never made eye contact. He was always looking off to the side. That is annoying.
They landed the first stage on a ship in the middle of the Pacific! That’s cools stuff!
Thanks for posting this Kristen!
Ditto, thanks KK! Interesting how the mission control is nothing more than conference tables and flat screen monitors. So off the shelf compared to ones used for the Moon landing or even shuttle missions.
Wait, I thought the whole Iridium thing was a failure the first time around?
Are these new Satellites going to be so highly polished that they piss off Astronomers too?
No more Iridium Flares once the old constellation is de-orbited.
Motorola offered me a job to work on Iridium. I turned them down because I saw what a boondoggle it is.
It’s a good thing you didn’t – nobody but one person, I think, is here from the Motorola days. The one person is some kind of engineer.
Gif of deployment of sat #9 (out of 10)
I’ll talk sh#t about hockey…Blackhawks start out EN FUEGO!
Caps too. How about those Ove back-to-back hat tricks?
The Washington Ice Skaters are always hot in the regular season. Come playoffs….not so much.
Don’t remind me. *cries about last 3 seasons*
Well, the last two haven’t been so good here in Chicago, either.
I got to go to the game on Saturday. The whole team looks great, but Kane has somehow taken to an even higher level of insane skill.
I probably wouldn’t buy a suppressor once the bill is passed. I’m just glad to see someone finally took their balls from the Dem’s purse and started to go on the offensive.
I think the lack of aggression on the part of “conservatives” and libertarians is a huge reason we have Donald Trump. Four decades of appeasement has gotten us exactly bupkis, and most of the conservatives I know are sick of playing defense and losing an inch at a time.
I wouldn’t be able to – New York has a separate law banning them outright, and I don’t want to be the test case through the courts.
My brother has one for his .22 boomstick, and even though it’s nice when we’re out plinking, I’d rather save the money and just wear my hearing protection. I mainly just like the idea that I COULD buy one easily if I wanted to. Because freedom and all that.
They should get down to like $40 for a .22. As cheap as a good set of ears and cheaper if you consider a group shooting would only need one suppressor instead of 5 sets of ears.
Yeah. there is nothing complicated about making a suppressor. The cost to manufacture them will be negligible. I cold see them getting very very cheap if the market is left alone to work it’s majic.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/08/dean-weingarten/new-zealand-silencers-cheap-and-unregulated/amp/
Rimfire silencer, $20 New Zealand. Seems my guess was high.
Well, when you think about it, they’re less mechanically complicated than a magazine, especially the low-end ones. You can get fancier, with better acoustic performance, but the device itself isn’t all that expensive to make.
The $700 price tag in the states comes from the regulatory burden driving the entire low end off the market. Anyone investing the time and effort to get a tax stamp is going to want something that will last and perform well.
True, I bought a silencer rated for full auto and no barrel length restriction. Why? Because if I’m paying that much, it better last for the rest of my life.
I have a savage .22 bolt gun that is already threaded to accept a muffler. If the legislation ever passes, I’ll probably wait a year or so until supply can catch up with demand and the prices come down then buy one.
I’d really like one for my 10-22. I’m with you, wait for demand to slow and then grab one.
They make an integral silenced bull barrel for the 10/22. Right now it’s $700, but give it a year after SHARE and it will be significantly cheaper. I’m excited to see what kind of advances can be made with the larger market share.
That sounds pretty cool. I’ll have to keep an eye on that.
That’s one nice thing about owning a 10/22; they are so damn popular that any accessory you can think of exists for it.
It’s too bad Congress, specifically the R’s, won’t look at that and start pondering how taking an axe to the rest of the Federal Register would likewise spur innovation, lower prices, and growth.
Yep. Far from perfect on the Libertarian Purity Scale, but damn it, the man fights.
Would that he were a bit more skilled at getting his legislation through…
“Liberals have a new wish every time their latest wish is granted. Conservatives should make them spell out their principles and ideals. Instead of doing this, conservatives allow liberals to pursue incremental goals without revealing their ultimate destination. So, thanks to the negligence of their opponents, liberals control the terms of every debate by always demanding “more” while never defining “enough”. The predictable result is that they always get more, and it’s never enough.”
~Joseph Sobran
No shit. You ever really want to confound a liberal/proggie, ask them to define what the ideal end-state is. They can’t do it; everything always must be open to MOAR govt. And the worst part is, they won’t even have a clue as to why you are punching them in the nose at that point.
I would argue that Republicans in congress are liberals (or progressives if you’d rather) too and that’s the real reason that they don’t fight back.
Progressives, definitely. Progressivism isn’t limited to the Dems, that’s for sure.
I’d get one for my Glock 17. And, contra what Thompson, noted retard and “avid *coughbullshitcough* hunter”, said, I wouldn’t need to buy an entirely new gun to do so, just a threaded barrel. Seriously, “avid hunter” and he doesn’t know that guns are made of multiple parts? He’s unaware that the barrel is a separate, replaceable part, and that gun owners can and do buy different barrels for guns they own?
What pisses me off about people like him and that vile bitch Pelosi with the whole “you don’t need a suppressor to hunt” schtick is that they don’t live in places or situations where they’d need to own a gun for home defense. Sure, if the extent of your firearm usage is shooting clays for an hour before retiring for brandy and cigars by the hearth, yeah, you’re going to do just fine with your $500 hearing protectors with Bluetooth (for a smidge of Brahms) and directional mic. If, like me, you live in a decent middle class neighborhood that’s too close to public housing, where your neighbors have had B&Es, and where there’s a per capita murder rate approaching that of Chicago, it would be awfully nice to be able to not have to choose between protecting yourself and your family or being able to hear for the rest of your life.
I just popped for a 22 silencer for my 10/22, and a universal modular pistol can for whatever pistols or carbines I end up sucking it on.
I learned the hard way – when you want something gun-related, don’t wait.
Watching the NFL scores this morning of of curiosity and comparing with predictions on this here blog the results are not that good. 6/12 so basically a coin flip. Although the last game may make things better then a coin flip. Or worse.
I never bet money on anything with two legs or more.
I have the inside scoop on a one legged man in an ass kicking contest. Want in?
He’s an expert at the jump-kick
ALWAYS BET ON STEVE SMITH DESPITE THIRD LEG
Hey, between baseball and football this weekend I made enough to buy an 80% lower.
Come to think of it, I’m paying for a lower using winnings from online sports gambling in an account that I funded with Bitcoin that I bought with Ethereum that I mined on my home computer…there’s some deeper meaning there, I’m just not sure what it is yet.
I tracked my NFL bets against the spread for two years straight. I made 52% and 53%. So yeah, basically a coin flip.
When I used to be into gambling, I tracked a bunch of different groups. And Ivy League home favorites paid 72% of the time for 5 years in a row. I made bank off it the last three of those years. No idea if they’re paying as well now, as this was in the day of lines being set by people instead of algorithms. But those rich kids made me a lot of scratch.
The best vegas bookies who live in mansions predict correctly about 55% of the time, so 50% isn’t terrible.
Why ‘Indigenous Peoples’ Day’ Is Far Worse Than Columbus Day
As long as we’re being honest about history. My question has been, why is Columbus listed as the genocide. Certainly there were people who killed native Americans for the purpose of extermination, but I’ve never seen any evidence that the was the case for Columbus. Only that he introduced old world diseases to the new. While sad, it was impossible to stop.
Because they have to disparage anything that might celebrate the west. So they take second order consequences that are quite beyond the ability to know, or even the intent fo the person as being the intended outcome.
It is also the same logic that assumes discrimination is the only cause of disparity.
Columbus was a bit of an ass though, wasn’t he (just not as bad as some claim)? I’m not really up on my New World early post discovery history.
Slaver, technically a rapist by our modern standards, etc.
Also if we’re playing the disease game he probably brought syphilis back to the Old World, which isn’t really the same as say, smallpox wiping out entire communities but still not pleasant.
Didn’t Columbus and his men wreck shop among the Taino? Or was it the diseases they brought, or the people who came after them?
“As long as we are being honest about history…”
Since when?
Nobody ever seems to mention that when Columbus showed up he stopped the Carribe from eating their way through all of the Arawaks in the Carribean (a name that means ‘Sea of Cannibals’) Columbus didn’t need to bring disease to the new world. The Arawaks were already doomed to be dinner for their Neighbors from Venezuela.
As bad as they Spanish were many of the natives were worse. To be sure.
And when the time came to advance on Mexico, the natives helped because they were sick of the guys who’d decided to rededicate a temple complex by ripping out 80,000 hearts.
That’s the dirty little secret both the pro-colonialism and anti-colonialism people like to gloss over: wherever the Europeans conquered an advanced civilization (think Aztecs, Inca, Mughal, Marathas) they did so with the invaluable help of natives who were sick of the existing social order and wanted it overthrown. A united front opposing the colonists would have defeated them, but enough people wanted to tear down the old system (or simply didn’t care one way or the other) that they willingly exchanged one master for another. There’s probably a cautionary tale in there, somewhere.
Which is why thousands of natives from other tribes joined the conquistadors to overthrow the Aztecs.
Written history is really the thing that damns Europeans. White people documented all the horrors they inflicted on the world, whereas other cultures are able to forget their crimes.
The “worst” stuff written about Columbus almost entirely comes from the writings of his bitter political rival Francisco Bobadilla. So, yeah, no way that would ever be bullshit.
Well, people record the things they think are important or unusual, which is why it’s easy to learn about European nobility and wars, not so much about the day-to-day of normal life; after all, do you write down details about the kind of toilet paper you use, or how far you commute in a day? The natives recorded some things they thought were important, but human sacrifice was so normal that the details weren’t important. So yeah, before the anti-western Marxists castigate the European explorers and colonists, they should bear in mind that they didn’t treat the natives much different than the natives treated themselves.
It’s just like the noble savages thing. There are none and there never were. I watched a documentary recently on some of the Amazonian primitives who have recently emerged from the forests and made contact with whitey over the last few decades. It’s actually funny to watch them call Brazilians white, when they are whiter than the Brazilians. Anyway, some of them were asked if they would want to return to their old lives and none of them wanted any part of that shit. Now they have clothing, which they love. Basically, they said that the old way was harsh and brutal and they don’t want to go back. Some of them got sick at first but they were given medicine and are fine. If their lives were so great like leftists love to romanticize about, then why do all of them refuse to return to it?
Rousseau started that shit. Romanticism. This idealized vision of “natural man” as a pure being that’s been corrupted by civilization. It’s the kind of idea that can only happen when you’ve attained a level of civilization capable of supporting people who are worthless self-absorbed assholes by trade.
Yep, first world problems.

According to his Twitter deal, he worked for the Bangkok Post for a time, so I assume he’s originally from Thailand? Maybe he’s right about Columbus. He shouldn’t sully himself by living in a country made possible by Columbus’s atrocities. He should move back to that bastion of human rights, Thailand.
Taking that comment at face value is fine, however, as judging Hitler by the standards of his own day still judges him harshly. The whole reason he’s a villain in modern popular culture is because he was a villain in contemporary popular culture. People who committed similar atrocities but were not villainized in their own time generally are not villainized today.
This. There’s plenty of active criticism of Hitler being a scumbag even before the war. The Allies didn’t stroll into the concentration camps and go “oh, well, that’s just war you know.” Their response was “Jesus Christ what the fuck were these people doing?”
Reading that facepalming twitter convo, I was reminded of this great movie scene.
You know who else was following orders?
You can thank Howard Zinn.
There are no indigenous people in the Americas. The people that were here when Columbus arrived walked over here from Asia.
Indigenous is a Western concept.
I’m indigenous to the Americas. I was born here.
Reminds me of another documentary I watched recently. There was a find in Montana someone just came upon by chance. It was the 8-10 thousand year old remains of a juvenile male. Just to cut it short, they did some DNA analysis and found the oldest evidence, of course, pointed to the ancestors being from Asia. So the ‘native’ Americans in that region have a legend that they were always here, they didn’t come from anywhere else. It was interesting how the paleo guys explained the entire thing to them and they immediately concluded that they were right all along, they had always been there. I mean, yeah, for like the last 10 thousand years, but apparently in someone’s imagination, 10k year = always. People are really, really good at convincing themselves of whatever they want to believe.
Donald Trump just used Mike Pence for a PR stunt – CNN

OMG, Somebody had a PR stunt during somebody else’s PR stunt.
I just don’t want people Hoovering up my tax dollars flying around the country to see if they can out-stupid a bunch of pro athletes (and succeeding)
I’m guessing the military already had a bunch of jets do a flyover during the opening. So the cost of Pence’s trip was probably a drop in the bucket. Yeah, it was a stupid waste of government money, but the government already wastes plenty of money on these things.
That literally doesn’t make it even the slightest bit better. Especially given that is literally a petty power display by the executive branch of our government. That’s the type of shit I want to avoid, even if it’s free
Yeah…watch on the big screen at home. Save us the BS.

‘Feminist Economics’ Finally Admits The Goal Is Replacing Families With Government
Shorter version of that article: “Steal from men, give it to women.”
“they’re now targeting government policies and institutions they contend are oppressive and discriminatory towards women.”
It’s funny how in the lefts world view, lack of an active policy means someone is being discriminated against.
Not giving is taking; not taking is giving.
As I’m reading this, all I can think of is, “How is “intersectional feminism” NOT considered sexist and racist??? The entire premise is to break people down by category and treat them accordingly!”
Racism is the new anti-racist. You see Democrats believe that minorites are less able than whites or men (who statistically, are a minority in the US) and so need the government to take care of them.
You could say it’s the white man’s burden.
That’s the biggest fucked up thing about the progressive mindset.
Every single time they bring up a subject or issue or topic to makes others ‘aware’ the solutions is ALWAYS (despite all the passionate sophistry and jargon and explanations) some combination of more government intervention, ‘common sense’ policy and/or taxes. ALWAYS.
Life isn’t black and white they tell us but the solutions are apparently. This is the extent of their ‘nuanced’ world view.
Nuance is the biggest lie of the modern left-of-center.
One of the goals behind feminist economics is to put dollar figures to the cost of the work women traditionally do out of love, such as child, elderly, or sickness care.
What all this ignores is that the value of any service is what a willing buyer and a willing seller can agree to. And for much of the work women do around the house, the woman is both the service provider and the service consumer. Creating an ornamental centerpiece for the dining room table might be nice, but it’s not something I, or most men I know, would shell out much money for. A throw cover set up over the couch is fine. But, if most men are like me, they’d be perfectly well happy to have it folded up next to the couch. When these goods and services are trading in the open market, it’s women who are usually the buyers. Applying the market value to the goods and services and imputing that to some injustice in favor of men ignores the fact that most men don’t assign much value to the good or service rendered.
Do men get paid for mowing the lawn? How about for washing the car?
Only women should get paid for taking care of their own home and their own children.
And, to be fair, some of that work suffers from the same calculation problem. A man’s budget for washed cars is probably a lot higher than most women’s. Trying to impute a market value to the labor is silly, because the person doing the labor is the consumer as much or more than the person the labor is ostensibly being provided to.
Women, as the traditional caretakers, have lives that are valued highly (“save the women and children first”). Men’s lives are disposable when women’s lives are on the line. Men are expected to put themselves in harms way for women and children.
I don’t really find anything wrong with this, its just a trade-off.
I see you watched “Red Pill”.
I watched that move a while ago, but I was already familiar with the dynamic before I watched it. It is a good documentary though!
I’ve still not seen it, but it’s on my list
Maybe he just watched Titanic?
The problem is it’s okay to expect men to continue doing what they’ve always done, but it’s sexist to expect women to also continue to do what they’ve always done.
Exactly. Men are expected to continue providing their share of the traditional deal, while (a loud minority) of women are saying that women shouldn’t have to provide their share and should just be able to take what they want from productive people (male or female or xemale).
Indeed.
If they’re going to keep a ledger of women’s “emotional labor”, I’d like to see it balanced against the things men are expected to do, like load up the 12-gauge and risk his life defending the woman and children if a home invader is kicking the door in.
Duh! You teach home invaders to not invade homes you un-woke shitlord!
Not to mention that home invasion and burglary are ALSO male-dominated activities. Obviously THAT has to change.
Home invaders such as mice, or spiders. SQUEAL! That’s a man’s job!
Fuckin’ scorpions, man.
*swigs whisky, thousand yard stare*
It also ignores that men/father’s provide their own “emotional labor” inside the partnership/family dynamic.
It’s not like women carry 100% of the feelings, love, and care burden.
“‘Feminist Economics’ Finally Admits The Goal Is Replacing Families With Government”
IOW, just the same old commie shit.
“One of the goals behind feminist economics is to put dollar figures to the cost of the work women traditionally do out of love, such as child, elderly, or sickness care.”
You can’t put a price tag on that. Not to go cliche. It’s impossible because things like ‘love’ are intangibles; unconditional. The left are so anti-humanist they treat such stuff as if their widgets and commodities. The price set by those items is through supply and demand. How the heck do you measure love via that?
Also, all that stuff is not mandatory. Don’t want to take care of a man? Don’t get married. Don’t want to do childcare? Don’t have kids. Simple, you morons.
“‘Feminist Economics’ Finally Admits The Goal Is Replacing Families With Government”

Is the only way to cultivate a libertarian society to also instill what could be considered conservative family values into people?
https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/oct/07/marriage-america-privilege-rich
As long as there are unwed mothers, it is likely that we’ll have a welfare state. (both for the lonely elderly and lower class women and children)
It could be argued that Adam Smith’s two books go hand-in-hand and shouldn’t be considered separately.
I don’t know if that assumes “conservative family values” but probably something along those lines.
There’s something there for sure. This is why the left work overtime to destroy the traditional family.
Yes? Values typically considered “conservative” in this country emphasize, among other things, personal responsibility, accountability, self-reliance, ambition, honesty, lots of good things. Now, they also emphasize things like conformity, obedience to state authority, and stuff like that, but by and large there’s more good there than bad from a classical liberal standpoint. In other words, The Andy Griffith Show gets you a lot closer to a libertarian society than, I don’t know, Will and Grace.
It’s a sad state of affairs when some of those values can be considered “conservative” instead of “universal”. [S]elf-reliance, ambition, honesty…those are things that early progressives such as Teddy Roosevelt held dear and probably would be horrified to learn that they had come to be seen as a provenance of the right.
From the firearms article- “It would also legalize the sale of armor-piercing bullets so long as the manufacturer claims the ammunition is made for “sporting purposes.”
I didn’t know that armor piercing bullets were illegal. I bought some armor piercing 30-06 a few years ago ano I don’t remember having to jump through any hoops.
They are in a wierd beureacratic limbo due to an ATF ruling during Bush-the-lesser’ tenure. From what I have seen the only armor piercing rounds that are still in production for sale are .50. Which is kinda of ironic.
https://www.ammogarand.com/3006-armor-piercing-m2-ap-non-corrosive-200rds-in-ammo-can-30062200.html
Here’s some AP 06 for sale as long as you don’t live in one of the communist states.
Ya but that is army surplus from the 1950’s and about $2.15/round. The current setup effectively bans new production.
Yeah, the sport of chasing the most dangerous game. Fuck off, slaver.
I lol’d
Isn’t it something like they’re illegal if the cartridge can be fired in a pistol? Hence the butt hurt about making things like a 7.62 x 54R pistol?
That’s right. I remember now. That’s what the deal about m855 rounds being possibly banned a few years ago was about. When they started making AR pistols, the ATF was considering banning M855 because it was an armor piercing round that now had a pistol it could be fired out of.
Would this allow cheap 7n6 imports again?

Health Insurers in Florida Request Premium Rate Hikes as High as 71%
While we’re on the topic, here’s a mendacious little article that elides over all the people getting fucked by O’Care
Just found out our premium increase today, 25%. That makes my monthly premium for a family plan over $2k. A family plan that’s very good by today standards but significantly worse than the average plan before Obamacare.
I am fortunate that my work covers a large share of my premium. Without that, I don’t understand how anyone can afford these plans. The cost of horrible insurance is well over most people’s monthly mortgage or rent. It’s unsustainable.
That’s $500 more than I pay in rent every month. The entire health insurance marketplace has to collapse at some point.
That is twice my rent. If that’s what my wife and I are looking at for 2018, we won’t be having insurance for a second year in a row.

As I have mentioned many times, I have the worst healthcare I could find, $13.1K deductible, no benefits until deductible met, $1K a month for a family.
Working.As.Intended.
You know, every Obama fanatic I know is still complaining about how fucked up the healthcare and health insurance industries are in this country – and I don’t disagree – but they refuse to accept that maybe, just maybe, Obamacare was not in fact the silver bullet that Obama and company promised it would be.
These people usually blame “these greedy corporations that are withholding healthcare from sick people”. And yes, corporations want to make money. That’s just a specific manifestation of the fact that humans want to make money, and they want as much of it as possible. You can’t stop corporations from trying to make money, but you can stop the government from creating a situation where the corporations are protected from any competition whatsoever (including the competing option of just not buying their product, which is now illegal).
But Obama and the Democrats repeatedly assured us that this thing would work, and they summarily dismissed any concerns about bad incentives or market distortions. They told us that their “TOP MEN” had put all the right incentives in place for individuals, employers, and insurers. They constantly hand-waved away any criticism of their wonderful, perfect healthcare plan.
Yet, once again, free market people are in the hot seat over this. We need to change that.
I’m reliably informed that this only turned out this way because Lieberman caved to the insurance companies, plus rethuglikkkans held back the great progress of our New Society. Otherwise, if they’d gotten what they *really* want, everything would have been perfect.
“Lieberman caved to the insurance companies”
Yep, most of my prog friends moved seamlessly from full-throated support for the ACA to decrying how the insurance companies had basically written the bill and so undermined all of Obama’s good intentions.
Texas rate increases for 2018 haven’t yet been announced, but 2017 is horrible. I’m self-employed and early 60s. My wife and I pay $1070/month for the two of us for a $13000 deductible HMO policy that has the same provider network as Medicaid (not Medicare … Medicaid.) It’s basically car wreck and heart attack insurance because the network is really thin on the oncology side.
Being self-employed I can time my income such that every other year my income is less than 400% of poverty line (and thus eligible for the ObamaCare subsidy). One can do this by front-end loading expenses and deferring revenue recognition (in a manner consistent with IRS regs), max out retirement contributions (which can be upwards to $36k for a married couple of geezers), selecting an HSA-eligible policy (which allows another $7k adjustment to gross income), avoiding dividend- and interest-paying securities in taxable accounts (put those in tax-deferred accounts and hold growth stocks — not mutual funds — in taxable accounts), etc., and even turning down work if necessary to keep AGI under 400% of poverty line (i.e., about $62,000 for joint filers no kids). I’ve basically decided to take most of the rest of the year off. It would be stupid for me to earn much more this year (25% income tax + 15% self-employment tax + $8k loss of ObamaCare subsidy? No thanks. Call me in 2018.)
That way I get ObamaCare supporters to pick up a bit of my premiums. Of course, you’re picking up a bit of the tab as well.
Further pants shitting
https://www.rawstory.com/2017/10/betsy-devos-is-alarmingly-close-to-destroying-teachers-unions-and-privatizing-education/
Interesting choice of words there. “Alarmingly” and “Destroying”. Sounds like a 14 year old wrote it.
It’s RAW!!!!STORY
You have to write to the level of your readers.
They say that like it’s a bad thing. If only.
I love when she throws the fact that ‘progressives’ are defending a 19th century system.
As it stands, the defense if public education is that without it the poor won’t be educated. However, due to the start of the education system, you could argue that the poor aren’t getting educated.
Not just 19th century. But 19th century Prussia.
If Bismarck supports it, it is probably a bad idea.
You know what else Bismarck supported?
Wilhelm I?
16-inchers?
16-inchers?
Internet inches? The Bismarck class ships mounted 15 inch guns.
Nah. Metric inches. Europeans, amirite?
As it stands, the defense if public education is that without it the poor won’t be educated.
Which is pretty sad when you look at the state of public schooling for the poor. I’d say a more accurate assessment would be without public education, how would we exploit the poor for union jobs?
If only…
“betsy devos is alarmingly close to destroying teachers unions and privatizing education”
I’m failing to find anything bad there.
They’ve just admitted that Democrats are almost entirely funded by unions that continue to exist because the customers (or taxpayers, rather) have no choice but to continue using these services. Private sector unions are somewhat held in check by the pressure of customers who want low prices and good service, but police departments, correctional facilities, fire departments, and other government bureaus have no need to worry about competition.
I hope DeVos chokes out these parasite pubsec unions, and fast.
Agree, that statement lets on a lot more than they meant to let on.
If DeVos successfully destroys the teacher’s unions, she becomes a success.
We don’t buy the alt-right’s new brand
Adam Marletta reports from Maine on a counterprotest that unmasked the racists.
“Fortunately, they were outnumbered by nearly 100 counterprotesters, including many from local socialist organizations, who turned out to oppose the reactionaries.”
Hey these people agitating got free speech, they’re no good. Luckily some brave socialists showed up to put them down.
Are you here to oppose the reactionaries or to react to the opposers? *Runs back and forth btw groups.* I DON’T KNOW!
So, they are proud that they opposed a rally to denounce political violence and promote free speech.
Holy fuck.
Notice he doesn’t refer to the commie groups as the pro- political violence crowd
Well, they’re anti-racists. You see free speech is just a dog whistle for Nazis and racists.
“a thinly veiled attempt to disguise the demonstrators’ racist, white nationalist views. ”
Examples, please.
Some of them were white and they were for free speech. What more proof do you want?
I think “turned out to oppose the reactionaries” is a hilarious sentence.
Don’t know if already mentioned (missed a lot of Lynx) but WTF, California?
“Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Friday that lowers from a felony to a misdemeanor the crime of knowingly exposing a sexual partner to HIV without disclosing the infection.”
Yeah, that’s pretty stupid. Giving someone HIV on purpose should be treated like aggravated assault.
Attempted murder, imo.
The current law, Wiener argued, may convince people not to be tested for HIV, because without a test they cannot be charged with a felony if they expose a partner to the infection
Get a load of Wiener.
*narrows gaze*
“The measure also applies to those who give blood without telling the blood bank that they are HIV-positive.”
Yikes.
This one kills me. You know you have HIV and you willingly go out of your way to donate AND not declare it? Absolutely disgusting. Of course we don’t want infected blood – under what twisted mindset would that EVER be acceptable?
I can’t figure it out. More people with HIV = more Democrat voters?
Maybe they think they’re “Protecting” gays the same way that shielding illegals who commit assault is “Protecting” hispanics.
What do you do when the damn snap-trap doesn’t insta-kill the mouse?
Wear big boots and step on them.
It sucks and it’s sad, but it’s gotta be done
On second look, the wound appears to be mortal – Front leg and entire pelvis crushed under swing-arm. Not going to survive either way.
Toss out into the front yard and make some predator’s day.
… I don’t have a yard.
Pass a law banning mice in your house.
And have outlaw mice? No thank you.
I’ll just increase the amount of poison and traps.
I do note that the two times I’ve seen any evidence of rodents was when someone disturbed the overgorwn lawn next door (it finally got mowed yesterday).
I wonder if that’s the reservoir of rodents.
Usually thats the case UNciv. There was an old disused rial line <1 mile form my house. They regraded it and built housing on it. When they did we started getting rats in our neighborhood, which hadn't happened in at least 20 years.
I see an uptick in rodent activity when I cut the hay in my pasture.
Longer story – months ago now, I spotted one mouse and went into extermination mode, laying out an array of anti-mouse mechanisms in various places where they were expected to roam, including snap traps at bottlenecks. Because these were out of my way, I left them. Never saw another mouse, never had a tripped trap – until today when I heard something go ‘clack’ and start squeaking.
Just set out warfarin bait. You’ll never get them all with traps.
I did that as well, but there were some blaringly obvious choke points to put the traps. I do not do single-vector counter vermin efforts.
*points* Claymores over there. Clear fields of fire for the M240Bs and riflemen. A few Bouncing Betty mines over here. Oh, and predetermine a few TPs for the artillery.
You are welcome.
Darnit, I have to live in this house.

Get yourself a BB gun. Put it down with one shot to the head. I’ve killed many a mouse and rat with mine.
I’ve been debating that. Pump or CO2 canister?
If you are trying to hit running one that’s weaving in and around obstacles, I’d recommend a CO2 canister handgun style. A pump rifle is good if you are staking out the area and expect to get it on your first shot. Either is fine for a trapped one.
All of my mouse encounters with untrapped rodents have ended too quickly to even think of arming. They usually vanish into someple utterly inaccessable within one or two seconds, hence the traps. Lice and free mouse – I’m not going to get a shot off. It’d be more of a mercy-kill weapon.
Well, shit. A pellet rifle did finish off the mouse quickly – but it wasn’t clean. Now I have to go and scrub mouse guts off the dryer.
The plastic pellets instead of metal BBs will probably make less mess for something so small.
I had huge sewer rats the size of small dogs constantly in and out of the garage when I lived in Hampton Roads. So I set correspondingly large rat traps for them. One time I was mistaken and it was mice instead. The carnage from those traps wasn’t pretty. Decapitated heads, bodies cut clean through in half, and blood splatters several feet in length across the floor. It was a bitch to clean.
Well, it’s a bit late for that now. I should have clossed the dryer door before conducting the execution. I had to go and clean the inside too.
Get a cat.
Then a dog to get rid of the cat.
Then an elephant to run the dog off.
Then a mouse to scare away the elephant.
.177 diameter lead slug finished it off, and I can keep a whole can of them without worrying they’d start to act like carbon slugs.

It’s funny how even Trump respects Rand Paul because he has principles. Probably a pipe dream right now barring successful RINO-ousts in the primaries, but it would be wonderful if this friendship leads to him eventually becoming Senate Majority Leader.
IOW, I believe that Rand is playing the long game because he knows that the current Senate will never pass any real conservative legislation.
‘I believe that Rand is playing the long game because he knows that the current Senate will never pass any real conservative legislation.’
Probably, the most annoying thing a politician can do is sacrifice they’re principles for pragmatism, when it’s obvious that they’re sacrifice gets nothing. I’m glad that Rand had been astute in this case.
I think you’re right about Rand. He can’t get anything done with the current congress. Maybe some re pubs get primaried and he gets people he can work with. Maybe not. Ken Schultz hardest hit.
Ryan needs to go. He would give Democrats everything they ever dreamed of if he could.
Donald Trump should hate Rand Paul.
I disagree with this premise. If I’m Donald Trump, Rand Paul is kind of a known commodity. I know what I’ll have to deliver to get what I want. It might not be a price I’m willing to pay, but there’s really no need for hard feelings. He’s got his agenda. I’ve got mine. For a guy who fancies himself the consummate deal-maker, that’s precisely the guy I want to have at the table. I certainly prefer it to the RINO/GOP Establishment that says they want to end Obamacare and then turns a 180, or smiles and tells me how we’re on the same page and then goes to the media and tells everyone what an awful monster I am.
Agree with this.
This is how business executives are, at least big-company executives. Everyone they work with is an asshole including themselves, they generally don’t let it get in the way to trying to get stuff done. You can’t be effective if you let your personal grudges get too much in the way.
Precisely. I’ll also add that it’s rarely the guy with a clear, defined agenda you need to worry about. You can work something out with him or you can’t. It’s the guy pretending he doesn’t have an independent agenda who will bite you in the ass.
He doesn’t have to. Ken hates Paul enough for him.
I’m heading to ACL festival this weekend. It’s a great time and I get to visit with two good friends as well.
MCL, PCL, and LCL festival woefully underattended.
Nice.
Some advice. Avoid 35 when possible, it’s pronounced Man-Shack, and Casino El Camino has some damn tasty burgers and reasonably priced beers.
Who was it here who said that C el C had turned to shit recently? Because I was like you, and loved that place when I lived there in the early 00’s.
Add Guada-loop to the weird Austin-only pronunciations. And not that MoPac is any better, really.
Draught House for beer, and brats if you’re there Sundays. Austin Beer Garden Brewing Company is tasty too. Blue Owl if you are going to stay awhile, and like sours.
Thanks Y’all,
I used to live there in the 90’s and now visit once a year. We stay with some locals, so we have the lowdown on a lot of good mexican food and BBQ when in town.
I confronted my Hispanic friend on Guada-Loop once, but as he said its been Texified.
Is there an Achilles’ Tendon festival, too?
Dove apparently fucked up.
https://thegrapevine.theroot.com/dove-apologizes-for-hella-racist-ad-but-how-did-it-eve-1819275890
I have to laugh because Dove tries so hard to be politically correct. They’re getting hoisted by their own retard.
I mean this wasn’t even the arcane stuff that SJWs get upset about. This was something even the layperson would understand as potentially offensive.
Really? I think it’s a giant nothingburger like usual. Dove is clearly trying to pander to the diversity crowd by implying that every skin color can use our products (which I think is racist in it’s own way, but that’s another point).
Maybe I’m thinking of a different ad than you, cause it was pretty bad.
Yeah, I have a very low tolerance for the “everything is racist” bullshit, but even I could see that looked bad.
Same. I willing to believe it was more honest mistake than anything else, but kind of shocked that nobody involved in making that just took a step back and said, “Umm, hey folks, there might be a problem with this ad.”
Is anyone talking about Ivory’s shit?
Did you see the ad, or only the misleading screenshot? I found it difficult to locate any copy of the ad itself, but there’s at least a partial clip of it here: http://bougieblackgirl.com/racist-dove-ad-you-decide/
Wow, yeah, the screenshot that’s getting posted everywhere is completely misleading. The original ad doesn’t appear to be racist at all.
So it’s much ado about nothing. Who could’ve anticipated that??
I didn’t understand the offensiveness at all.
Please SjW-splain it to me.
Is the end of “Black or White” by Michael Jackson also offensive? I am so confused by this one. Usually I can at least get the point, even if I find it stupid or venal or even evil.
This one? I got nothin’.
Do these Twitter leftists understand that they’re the only ones who see and judge individuals based on what color of skin that they have?
The white girl is hotter, to be sure.
I LOLed at the article when it said the white girl had “peak Caucasity”
I’ve started a job hunt. 15 years at the same place and I’ve gotten that sinking feeling every time I have to go to work. Sunday nights are now the worst. Sure I have a lot of freedom of movement here but just tired, tired of the place.
I was thinking of cashing out part of my 401k and not working for a year or so – just to get a clear head again – but I know this is a silly way to blow retirement money.
Seriously, don’t touch your 401k. You will pay early withdrawal penalties and extend the amount of time you’ll have to work before retirement. Stay strong, brother.
Good luck on the job hunt. What kind of work are you looking for?
Only way I could make my current $ and more is doing EDI / IT work. Of course I would prefer anything else…
What do you want to do, LH? Not ‘what do you feel you have to do.’
Don’t quit w/o the second job in hand, and don’t loot your 401k.
i would make a better mechanic than IT. Or working outdoors like my grandfather, the landscaper. 22 years of IT Support roles burns one out.
They are hiring bar grinders at my place of employment right now.
Industrial electrician, like what Lachowsky does? I had a client that did a lot of electrical design and manufacturing of large industrial manufacturing tools. Indoors work, but a lot of wrenching and fun with SolidWorks.
The oil patch may be hiring again, and always needs people willing to turn wrenches on electronics and other machinery outside.
LOL. I didn’t see you’d responded when I brought up your line of work, Lachowsky.
The are looking for Systems Administrator at our plant.
https://recruiting.adp.com/srccar/public/RTI.home?d=ExternalCareerSite&c=1067441
Not to mention expensive, since you’d be paying a penalty (depending on your age) and taxes.
Maybe you could try the Xenophon tactic and build up both savings and side income so you can transition into a six-month period of 10-hour workweeks (just enough to pay expenses) while you mentally recover from your crappy job and start looking for a new one. I’ve been working part-time for, uhhhh, four months now, which has enabled me to go on enough hikes to recover my sanity and start building relationships that will get me a job I want, not a job I need.
/two cents
It’s the mental recovery thing I mostly need – my anxiety is high and I haven’t been sleeping very well. It’s starting to effect my personal life a lot so something has to be done.
I’m not too worried about the retirement money aspect – I have some land that can be sold, along with a small inheritance that would make up the difference.
Right now it’s more of the current maintenance – mortgage, car payments, and the added health insurance.
I have some land that can be sold,
I hate to break it to you, but waste lands aren’t selling for what they used to…
I think what you’re contemplating is only rational if you’re very young. If you’re over 40, probably a bad idea. You could cash out your 401k and get some training in what you want to transition to.
I’ve only had one job that I really hated. For just over 2 years. I would wake up every morning and hate the fact I had to go there. When it gets that bad, you have to get out.
I feel you LH. My current job is a drag. Unfortunately I have some velvet handcuffs that make it very lucrative to make it to next August.
Since it is hunting season, I have noticed that even taking a day off here and there has made a huge difference. Maybe take some time off and see if that doesn’t at least get you back into the yellow range (as opposed to the red “I’m gonna blow” range)?
Same with me. I’ve been job hunting for a while now. The place has started a slow march to closing. Bleeding customers and losing employees. I still have a paycheck though, which is good because I’m holding out for a new job with little or no commute.
Work from home, earn $9,526/mo and buy a new Fiat!
I would buy the fiat 124. I’m frugal, so until my truck is dead I won’t buy anything else.
Just $9526 a month? Please, I make $500 an hour working from home, working only 10 hours a week, and just bought a new Mustang!
Only 120 hours a week!
I’m in a similar position. Uncle Sam has taken a once honourable job, trucking, and given it the STEVE SMITH treatment. I hate it now, and every Sunday is ruined by the dread of waking up at 3am Monday to get in a rig that is tracked by The Government, and working for people who don’t have the balls to tell the slavers to fuck off.
20 years at this, in 4 different countries; and I’ve pretty much done 80-85% of the various types of trucking that are out there. And now I have no idea what to do next. It sucks.
*Ponders writing rant about Uncle Sam ruining an entire industry for website where I am a part time lurker.
Do it. It will be interesting to see what happens to an industry when government regulates something, you know, just the commonsense stuff to keep things safe.
*Ponders writing rant about Uncle Sam ruining an entire industry for website where I am a part time lurker.
Yes please.
Don’t touch your 401K. The penalties will destroy it.
Best wishes on your job hunt.

WTH? Come on Seth, stick to good stoner comedy…stfu about politics.
And the book isn’t comparing the Left to Nazis, it’s claiming linkage.
Can’t even be offended correctly, this guy
No pinko is ever going to admit, even to themselves, that the Nazis were just another flavor of lefty.
National Socialists were extreme right wing dontchaknow.
It still baffles me that we even make a distinction between the commies and the nazis. They are essentially the same ideology.
From a fundamentalist libertarian perspective they are essentially the same, but if you look closer there are some fundamental differences between them. The main one being how they chose to implement government control over the economy:
Fascism = privately owned, publicly directed
Communism = publicly owned, publicly directed
The end result is the same, but there’s a world of difference in the means. For one, people are a lot more accommodating of government control if they still have some semblance of control themselves, and for another, private ownership will yield better results by avoiding the tragedy of the commons. In both cases the subject is essentially a slave, but in one system the chains sit lighter than another.
But if you look at the Weimar Republic, as the power of the Nazis and the Commies waxed and waned in relative terms throughout the 30’s, it wasn’t unusual for the rank and file to change allegiance based on quite pragmatic considerations.
The details of a political ideology are often of very little interest to the foot-soldier, provided they have a well-defined enemy/scapegoat, a full stomach, and a boss to order them around.
And that’s the problem with humans. They want to support the strong horse, and don’t care that much what color or gender it is.
Nazis and commies are entirely different ideologies.
Communism is universal socialism.
Nazism is national socialism.
This is simple. Why can’t people understand this?
Seriously. If they would ACTUALLY READ A BOOK that’s one of the first things that becomes plain and apparent.
But the vast majority of these buffoons (celebrities, activists etc.) don’t seem to take the time to ACTUALLY LEARN.
They just emote.
What fucken douche.
And Nazism IS a branch of socialism…idiot.

A man broken by what he had seen. A man devoted to accumulating the derp; storing it. Maybe in an attempt to hide it from society. Maybe he thinks he can protect us this way. You spent time outside in a tent? Isn’t that cultural appropriation too?
Yeah, an Indian gal going on and on accusing others of stealing from her culture while using a computer is pretty rich.
I’ll have all the spirit animals I want, beeotch. And you’re not a native, your ancestors got here from Asia. The only native population is in African. So, again, fuck off CUNT.
SYMPATHY FOR INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL
While I still think its a garbage movie, I think part of the problem is people apply modern film expectations to a film that was designed to appeal to a 1980s audience.
I won’t even dignify that article with a click. That movie was a steaming pile of bantha shit.
https://youtu.be/-pZekhEWCHg
Shit forgot NSFW
I think anyone who looks at this site—family friendly tag or not—on work IT networks kinda deserves what they get. Especially if you browse this place on the night shift. (Shudder)
“modern film expectations to a film that was designed to appeal to a 1980s audience”
Then why did they makes ~20 years after the 80’s?
Which is why they should have never made it.
The plot’s insipid, Shia has anti charisma, and the stunts fall into the “Really?” reaction for the audience. Ford being about twenty years too old for the stunts doesn’t help either.
Some neat set pieces though, with the rocket sled, the aliens popping Cate Blanchett’s grape, and even Nuke Town.
I watched that movie. It struck me as a cargo cult copy of the earlier installments by someone who didn’t understand what made the other ones entertaining.
IGN;DR. Seriously though, Crystal skull was absolute garbage. There was nothing enjoyable about the film. The Star Wars prequels weren’t as bad, that’s how awful it was.
I pretend that movies doesn’t exist; it helps preserve the integrity of the three originals.
But aren’t you excited to get new films featuring Shia as the new adventurer?!
I think the whole HWNDU project, and his reaction to the Kekistanis has put paid to any kind of future career that involves other people paying him to make movies.
A continuing adventure would work if they recast the son. Say, replace Shia with someone like Chris Pratt or Chris Pine. Move Ford to more of Henry Jones Sr. type role, providing the advice/direction/smarts while another guy handles the action. Or they could stop making new Indiana Jones films, but since there’s money on the table they ain’t leaving it (a fifth one is scheduled to be produced, for anyone who might not be aware).
Fuck you Chicago! Our local PD is just as capable of telling the taxpayers to go get fucked.

A little late for Justine Damond.
I think her case has entered the “lets let some time pass and then quietly drop everything and hope everyone forgot about it” phase of post-police shooting activity.
Yeah, especially after their Hail Mary of, “let’s serve a search warrant on the victim’s house, and see if we can smear her,” hit the ground.
Dude is still walking around out of jail, AFAIK. Totally would happen if you or I shot her.
She shouldn’t have used Dove cream. She would’ve been remembered.
The investigators have turned over the case to the county attorney.
We will see how long it takes to bring charges.

I remember Jude Law as a guest on Jon Stewart Show, and they just ran a segment about Healthcare. Jon asked Jude about Britain Healthcare, and Jude said it was shit. Jon quickly changed the subject.
Jon oliver did some good shows when he first went to HBO. He did one on Snowden that I liked and one on the chicken industry that was pretty good. Since the election, his show is completely unwatchable.
Gosh I can’t stand John Oliver. I have a friend who likes him a lot, but I find him un-funny and dishonest.
The guy who said that “the pun is the lowest form of humor” was not familiar with 21st Century snark.
Some people confessed to being baffled as to why, after so long an open secret, that the Harvey Weinstein sex stuff is finally breaking into the mainstream. It has a simple answer: He is no longer useful to the Clintons.
Good call. I can see that. There’s no don to protect and he failed herself in the election process
Didn’t she make out an enemies list after she lost? Is he on it?
I don’t know, but it wouldn’t surprise me, and yeah I imagine he is.
I don’t think she’s pulling down the temple around her (too much of coward and still nurtures a dementiated ambition) but I wouldn’t be surupirsed if there is more in the way of donner purges.
<a href="https://www.thewrap.com/media-enablers-harvey-weinstein-new-york-times/"<This reporter says she had the story at the New York Times back in 2004, and the paper spiked it after coming under pressure from the Hollywood elites.
Gah!
This reporter says she had the story at the New York Times back in 2004, and the paper spiked it after coming under pressure from the Hollywood elites.
hm. Wouldn’t that more-accurately be, ‘the clintons influence has waned’, so their entire network of cronies are now without out to sea?
something like that.
im also not sure if that makes sense. rich liberals are still rich, and the DNC desperately needs rich liberals. Its the NYT who seems to have gone off the reservation here.
Not so sure. I think it’s simply that the left has had to start cannibalizing its own to maintain the momentum of their outrage movement.
We’re going to see more and more wildfires breaking out that in turn, inevitably scorch other leftist icons. There are lots of people starting to demonize Weinstein who were in diapers when Monica blew Bill, and I suspect are going to have a horrible surprise when their twitter postings force them into a corner and they’re forced into acknowledging that it wasn’t the VRWC and the internal contradictions of Hillary’s “Believe all Victims” shit.
The whole Democrat body of propaganda is so closely interwoven that the damage we see being inflicted today, chip by chip, inevitably creates fractures that will further undermine cohesion. Ideologically, I’m hopeful that this is a real Operation Chastise where there are enough fractures in the dam that the whole structure fails, and cleanses US society of the cancer of left-authoritarian crap.
America’s contemporary left is in dire need of an Augean-level clean-out.
I’m enjoying – for example – the spectacle of Meryl Streep being asked why she said nothing for 20 years, being such a beacon of feminist success. Could it be that she spent time on her back in Harvey’s office? Say it ain’t so. (Maybe it isn’t. Maybe she really did succeed on her own merit. Odd, in a world where the left rejects meritocracy)
Here’s hoping one of these actresses stands up and says “Yeah, I did my time on Harvey’s casting couch. We had a deal, and you know what? Harvey held up his end. He made me a star. I’m a strong, independent woman, I made my decision, and my decision worked out well for me and, I’m pretty sure, Harvey. Are you saying I shouldn’t make my own decisions? That I’m not a strong independent woman?”
I’ll need to get advance notice of that so I can come to work in a hazmat suit.
So many cranial explosions, so few places to avoid the mess.
First snow of the year, celebrate with some chesticles!

29 and 42.
1, 4, and 5
4,7,23
I get 4 and 7, but… 23 looks like the psycho.
You forget my Jodie Arias obsession.
I find these interesting. I often think “I have no idea what women find attractive” and then look at these choices and see that men have quite a diverse taste in women as well.
Aside from looking at hot girls, I think that’s part of the fun too.
Not really diverse at the core.
Men find signals of fertility attractive: Symmetricality, youth, smooth skin, curves that signal enough nutrition for carrying babies, cues of sexual receptivity like provocative clothing and postures….. Everything else hangs off of that.
Women have different signals… the physical: the inverted triangle shape: broad shoulders and narrow hips, symmetrical, … But also other fitness cues for a potential mate, social status, wealth, etc. That’s why they seem so much more complicated.
13 would definitely burn the fucking house down.
Some of them are grotesque in the nature of “anything more than a mouthful is wasted.” But #2 can put her shoes under my bunk any day.
“anything more than a mouthful is wasted.”
Blasphemy!
It is harder than usual to come up with something most just look off. Maybe 15? I have to look on the phone at work… How about a small to medium size breasts special tomorrow?
“How about a small to medium size breasts special tomorrow?”
I can tell the words are English, but arranged in this way they make no sense.

Would You Drink Pink Sparkling Milk?
http://www.foodandwine.com/articles/would-you-drink-sparkling-milk
It’s fair to say many of us are obsessed with sparkling beverages. (You have heard of La Croix.) But one U.K. company is betting that our fizzy obsession goes way beyond water and rosé, all the way to creamy, bubbly beverages—to like, you know, milk.
That’s right: Arla, one of the U.K.’s largest dairy producers, is set to debut sparkling milk in its home country as well as in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and with any success, one day expand into additional global markets, including the U.S., the Telegraph reports. The new sparkling beverage is part of a larger plan by the milk company to triple its milk sales by 2020—that’s how much it believes you’ll buy it.
I’m thinking that’s not going to work out as well as they would like.
That’s definitely confusing demand with the product.
It sounds gross
No. No I would not.
Kefir already exists and is quite tasty actually.
Well fermented milks exists in multiple iterations, kefir being one. Also probiotic if you believe in that sort of crap
If it came from one of the women on Q’s posts…definitely

If the House actually passes the SHARE act, I may have to grant the Republicans one honorary testicle. Fully revocable at any time, it does not grant them permanent gonadal status, but at least is a step in the right direction toward regaining potency from their Dem overlords.
Concur
It’s going to pass, because I broke down and started the NFA process. I made this prediction on one of the other gun articles.
Supposedly, you’ll get your 200 bucks refunded to you under this act.
Yeah, I’m sure the government will let some shekels slip through their slimy claws.

I think Limbaugh brought that up in one of his books. The people that were conquered only lacked the tech to enact European Empires. The Aztecs arguably had a larger and more functional empire than even the Spanish, and would not have hesitated to demolish and conquer Europe if given the chance
The only reason the Spanish were able to conquer the Aztecs was that the neighboring tribes detested the Aztecs with every fiber of their beings.
That was a significant contributing factor. But there were others: disease; steel weapons vs. bronze; Aztec approach to war which involved the capture of hostages rather than complete destruction of the enemy.
Thomas Harlan has an interesting s-f series set well into the future which is built on an alternative history base. His basic premise is that Japan was invaded by the Mongols in 1274, survivors fled east and brought metal-working tech to the Americas, specifically the Aztecs. By the time of the books, the Aztec Empire has ruled earth for centuries.
The Mongols teach their horses to swim?
I was thinking they taught their horses to get on Chinese ships.
Yep. From Wikipedia:
“In 1274, the Yuan fleet set out with an estimated 15,000 Mongol and Chinese soldiers and 8000 Korean soldiers in 300 large vessels and 400-500 smaller craft, although figures vary considerably depending on the source. The primary port for the operation was Quanzhou in Fujian, then the center of China’s maritime trade.[11] They landed on Komodahama beach on Tsushima Island on October 5, 1274. Sō Sukekuni, governor of Tsushima, led a cavalry unit of 80 to defend the island, but he and his outnumbered unit were killed in the engagement…
…Around nightfall, a typhoon caused the Mongol ship captains to suggest that the land force reembark in order to avoid the risk of being marooned on Japanese soil. By daybreak, only a few ships had not set out to sea. Those that had were destroyed by the storm. Some accounts offer casualty reports that suggest 200 Mongol ships were lost. However, small Japanese boats were much more swift and maneuverable than Mongol ships, and the Japanese were able to board the remaining ships of the crippled Mongol army.”
However, small Japanese boats were much more swift and maneuverable than Mongol ships, and the Japanese were able to board the remaining ships of the crippled Mongol army.
So, samurai and Mongol warriors going toe to toe on shipboard? The mind reels at the carnage.
I am still getting over my hangover and I dont usually do movie stuff but I saw this one last night:

I highly recommend it. I couldn’t quit laughing. It takes ridiculous to a new level. I laughed myself into a headache. Well worth every minute. It is very obvious that every scene was shot in one take. If you watch it keep in mind that those are grown adults doing that shit with a straight face.
Where did you watch it (Netflix, Amazon, etc.)? Thanks in advance.
Hell, I dont know. The wife found it. I will ask.
*goes to ask
She doesnt remember. She was just scrolling through channels and found it on ‘one of those channels that plays old stuff’.
My apologies
No worries. I’m sure I can track it down. I like odd moves. I watched “Zardoz” yesterday, since the wife was busy. I’m not really sure how I feel about it. Confused and aroused I guess.
I love those channels. All the ads are for catheters, walk-in bath tubs, Rascal scooters, and chair-lifts.
“Have a structured settlement? We can steal a large part of it and give you the rest!”
Suthenboy, it was on Turner Classic Movies last night. Watched a little. What I saw was pretty hilarious, but I was mostly watching baseball.
FINALLY!

When making a sandwich is a crime against feminism
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/rendezview/when-making-a-sandwich-is-a-crime-against-feminism/news-story/966a541e2e1ffe7bd5f13047d483ef51
WHEN young Sydney mother Maddie asked her closed Facebook group of 26,186 mothers for some tasty alternatives to sandwiches for her husband’s lunches, she wasn’t expecting the backlash.
“I would love to hear what other mums make their hubbies for lunch and snacks throughout the work day,” she posted on Tuesday. “We are getting over sandwiches.”
You would think she’d asked for a hemlock recipe, judging by the torrent of scolding which erupted.
She was nothing but a “slave” and a “1950s housewife”.
She was “weird” and no one in their right mind or a “pink fit” would do something so demeaning as make their husband lunch. Let alone snacks.
“Your husband is a grown up and you’re not his mother”, wrote one member of the North Shore Mums Facebook group.
…
How would have thought the humble sandwich can cause so much drama. John Montagu has a lot to answer for
That is so stupid. For fucks sake people. Households have divisions of labor that are agreed upon by the parties involved.
True but would it kill you to make the sandwiches once in a while? Would it? (no idea if you have someone to make sandwiches for, it is hard to remember the relationship status of all the glibs)
It’s funny. I actually do more of the cooking in my house than my wife does. It’s not a point of contention between us, I just enjoy it and am better at it than she is. She does the laundry, I was dishes. She does the flower garden, I mow the lawn, etc. etc.
That’s how you keep a household functional.
Keep in mind that the feminist’s goal is not a happy, functional household.
But I do know Playa Manhattan occasionally cooks.
He says that, but we all know it’s just Chipotle takeout.
If my wife brought home Chipotle, I’d make her watch as I put it down the garbage disposer.
Femanism is the cartelization of domestic labor. It is the OPEC of sandwiches. You can’t pump too much oil so we can keep the prices high:You can’t make sandwiches so I don’t have to.
I do all the yardwork and anything construction related in my house. Why don’t people call me a slave to my wife whenever I ask advice for making s repair?
Honey-do lists are sexist!
All those haters know they are icapable of making a decent sammich
Don’t you understand, in a feminist marriage, women are entitled to everything and have to contribute nothing.
Steve Shives nods enthusiastically, but nervously.
I’m betting that all the scolders are single, for a reason, and couldn’t make a sammich if their life depended on it. They’re jealous.
Holy shit, this is one fucked up lady.

Don’t cut my taxes, bro
The job-creation reasoning is equally specious when applied to the behavior of existing companies. As Warren Buffett notes, “I have yet to see” anyone “shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain.” My team and I are already intensely motivated to expand the company we manage, and lowering the corporate tax rate isn’t going to make us create jobs any faster.
What a tax cut would do is increase our post-tax profitability, which effectively transfers money from the federal government to our shareholders. One consequence of this would likely be a one-time increase in our stock price, but with no impact on our operations or employment plans. In theory, this could have the benefit of making it easier to raise cash by issuing more stock to the public, but with interest rates at historical lows for years, American corporations have had no trouble getting capital.
In other words, if we are serious about growth, competitiveness and job creation, we should look elsewhere besides the tax code for answers. We can remain open to immigrants in search of better economic opportunities. We can invest in our public schools and universities. We can upgrade vital business infrastructure such as airports, land transportation systems, the internet backbone and our power grid. We can heighten our vigilance about anti-competitive behavior and regulatory capture by very large corporations that make it difficult to start new businesses.
I’m already rich as Croesus, and I couldn’t give a fuck less about my shareholders. If you cut my taxes, I’ll have to build a bigger swimming pool to hold my gold doubloons.
Most people reinvest their stock gains (I think, considering how few people have stock certificates), so any extra money to shareholders will get reinvested. Probably proportional to the tax cut.
Fuck Buffett. I hate that motherfucker with a passion. For years he lobbied for heavier estate taxes while preying on family businesses that couldn’t make the generational transition because of cash flow and the IRS. Now he wants to tell us the the corporate tax rate doesn’t matter because everyone he knows plays in the stratospheric realm of big business and just moves that money around to avoid the tax anyway?
It’s amazing how many people who already have enough money, turn into commies. A tax cut won’t affect them much and the peasants can just go get fucked.
So, why are there any new publicly traded companies? They should have just borrowed the money and stayed private, using this logic.
Buffet or buffoon?
““I have yet to see” anyone “shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain.” My team and I are already intensely motivated to expand the company we manage, and lowering the corporate tax rate isn’t going to make us create jobs any faster.”
That is just a straight-up lie.
*types into bullshit translator
Bullshit translator: “High tax rates keep smaller companies that would compete with me out of the market.”
Oh, now it makes sense.
Yeah. This.
When arguing taxes and regulations with people, I always hear that big businesses will screw us if not regulated and that taxes are paid on the obscene profits of the big businesses.
What people don’t understand is that the big business they rail against so often love high taxes and regulation. Regulatory capture and barriers to entry are real things and most people haven’t a clue.
We can heighten our vigilance about anti-competitive behavior and regulatory capture by very large corporations that make it difficult to start new businesses.
I agree with this part. Get keystone up and running so we don’t have to depend on your choo choos.
It’s amazing how people can’t cut right through and see the bull shit. This is an example of people with power preserving that power pretending to speak on behalf of the rest of society.
Maybe the moronic useful idiots who read NYT eat that shit up, but not intelligent people. I refuse to believe this.
Of course Buffett is going to say all these things, his strategies are built on the current system and he has to lobby to maintain it. HELLO.
He’s an authority figure who speaks the language of the left as he uses the existing system and wraps it up in faux-justice jargon, adds a ribbon and VOILA!
Warren Buffet is bae you nazi. We should all listen to his infinite wisdom.
He’s just a patriotic American trying to prevent us from making a grave mistake-no ulterior motives whatsoever.
Did you know that you can go straight from being an evil corporate 1 percenter Nazi to hero just by voting Democrat?
We can invest in our public schools
That’s a shitty, failing investment.
Cut a check to the nearest one, Warren. What is stopping you?
how that work for Zuckerberg ?
Don’t know, but I remember how it worked out for Ellen DeGeneres:

http://www.eurweb.com/2016/04/detroit-school-principal-who-got-500k-gift-from-ellen-degeneres-charged-in-kickback-scheme/#
That was probably just some kind of isolated incident though.
My team and I are already intensely motivated to expand the company we manage, and lowering the corporate tax rate isn’t going to make us create jobs any faster.
Buffett is a lying sack of shit. Every business makes investment decisions based on after-tax ROI. If Berkshire isn’t, Buffett deserves to get sued into penury for breach of fiduciary duty.
As Warren Buffett notes, “I have yet to see” anyone “shy away from a sensible investment because of the tax rate on the potential gain.”
Well, when the tax rate on comparable investments is all the same, then no, the tax won’t change people’s decisions.
You know where the tax rate on the potential gain does change decisions? When you are deciding between tax exempt and taxable investments. There’s a reason why people buy tax-exempt bonds even though they pay lower interest.
We can invest in our public schools and universities.
Actually, no you can’t, because you don’t get a return on those expenditures, they aren’t investments.
Well, when the tax rate on comparable investments is all the same, then no, the tax won’t change people’s decisions.
Actually, even that is not entirely true. People make investment decisions based on some, even intuitive, notion of risk-adjusted return. Higher tax rates shift returns down while leaving risk unchanged (if not exacerbating it). Given the non-linearity of risk preferences, that generally means people become more risk averse in their investment decisions in a high-tax versus low-tax environment. Buffett understands finance to know this. He’s just be dishonest.
transfers money from the federal government to our shareholders
It’s not the government’s money, you fuckstick!
I noticed that too. I was thinking “no, it transfers some money that was transferred from productive people to the federal government back to those productive people it was taken from in the first place.”
yeah, because you’re not allowed to use that increased cashflow in any other way than to have it show up in earnings. no debt paydowns, no capital investment, no hiring/raises, no acquistitions, etc.
And post-tax profitability won’t last anyhow. Higher margins will attract more competitors and the result will be that your margins shrink back to about what they are now. However, the price you charge will drop because of the competition.
So the winners are the consumers. More choices, lower price.
Yeah, this is another example of a big company trying to make sure that smaller competitors can’t compete with them.
effectively transfers money from the federal government to our shareholders
*Ponders how money that the feds never get from shareholders is somehow transferred by the feds to shareholders*

If team R had the ability to line up a dozen synapses, they would like the bump-stock ban to silencer liberalization. But they do not, so they will give up the bump stock in exchange for nothing while holding majorities in both houses and the WH.
*Link. they would link. No more posting before coffee.
I’ve said this several times, but I don’t think that a bump-stock ban will ever pass the House because I think that many of those folks read Breitbart and are actually scared about what their constituents might do to them if they ever passed such a bill.
Like getting tar and feathered before being run out of town?
If they’re feeling nice, yes. If they’re not, woodchipper.
That would be a logical and rational reaction by competent representatives that are able to think and act strategically. That’s why I don’t think it will work out like that. I’ve known to many Spania.. er, Republicans.
They should trade the bump-stock ban for national carry reciprocity. I could get on board with that.
I would not.
The proper trade off for bump stocks is deregulating native automatic.
But that one has the chance of a snowball in Hell. Mine could actually be doable.

The Google Memo and Bro Science
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/secularspectrum/2017/10/google-memo-bro-science/
The key bit:
[O]ur scientific educations almost never talk about the invention of whiteness and the invention of race in tandem with the early scientific method which placed a high value on taxonomies—which unsurprisingly and almost certainly not coincidentally supported prevailing social views. The standard history of science that is taught to budding scientists is that during the Enlightenment, Europe went from the dark ages to, well, being enlightened by a more progressive mindset characterized by objective “science.” It is the rare scientific education that includes a simultaneous conversation about the rise of violent, imperialist globalization during the same time period. Very few curricula acknowledge that some European scientific “discoveries” were in fact collations of borrowed indigenous knowledge. And far too many universally call technology progress while failing to acknowledge that it has left us in a dangerously warmed climate.Much of the science that resulted from this system, conducted primarily by white men, is what helped teach us that women were the inferior sex.
So science is bad because imperialism and global warming. This should be taught in schools apparently. But this is the very science that says there is dangerous warming, so maybe that is where it is wrong.
Observations and current theory are indicating that what little warming we’re getting is at benign levels.
Thus we can dismiss it as ‘bro’ science.
Wait – For years, I’ve been told that I’m an anti-science dunderhead. Now I’m being told that I’m a pro-science bigot.
What am I supposed to do? What is the correct opinion to hold on science? Help me! I’ll never get woke at this rate!
Just do as the left says and you’ll be fine.
Exactly. Why do they believe in the science of climate change if it’s ‘white based’?
Basically all it comes down to because Europe/North America dominated science for centuries it has to be white=science. It can’t be because they were just better at it.
they were also men so it is white patriarchal science
” … living in fucking huts.”
– Camille Paglia
I dont see the word ‘Darwinism’ in there or the calling for it’s proponents to be exiled…yet.
I guess they don’t fucking love science?
I was nodding my head along for seven lines, then bam, right into a wall of derp.
What is irritating is that they accuse whitey of using science to “teach us that women were the inferior sex”, but never acknowledge that that same science has led to that theory being discredited.
What indigenous knowledge out there resulted in more freedom for women than they currently enjoy under the Patriarchy? I will grant you that we got a lot of knowledge from Arab scholars in the past, but none of it seemed to be in the area of gender studies? The Chinese or Indians?
One real example is all I ask.
/waits hands in pocket staring at the ground kicking air for people to wish him a Happy Thanksgiving.
Get to work!
And far too many universally call technology progress while failing to acknowledge that it has left us in a dangerously warmed climate.Much of the science that resulted from this system, conducted primarily by white men, is what helped teach us that women were the inferior sex.
Wheeeeeee!
OT: Today is my first day on second shift…
Pros:
– Don’t have to get up at the crack of dawn
– As soon as I wake up, the morning links are here with a healthy stream of comments going; no need to spend the morning reading last night’s old discussions
Cons:
– If they’re doing utility work, construction, or tree cutting, that activity is going to take place between 9 and 11 AM, and it will wake me up.
Here’s another con from the days of yore when I worked a second shift job: Not much is open when you get done work. This makes errand running and, depending on bar closing time, going out for a beer after work tough.
Yeah I did second shift for about a year several years ago. You miss a lot of stuff. Anything school function related happens while you work. Football games. If you have school age kids you won’t see them during the week. I hated working second.
Yea, I did it for 8½ years before; that’s why I was kind of excited to go back to it. I do remember co-workers with kids having a hard time with it, though. I’m not sure how they did it if they didn’t have a spouse at home.
But I’m single and childless, so it’s not too bad for me. I like the fact that oversleeping is no big deal.
Oh, and another bonus is that at most companies, management goes home at 4 or 5 PM, and no inspections or audits are likely to occur on second shift, so it’s a much more relaxed work environment.
One CON I found when working the night shift; I lived downtown, near the highschool. Turns out I was right on the route that the HS marching band used to practice.
Women in the workplace, a never ending lament.
In interviews, the men describe a heightened caution because of recent sexual harassment cases, and they worry that one accusation, or misunderstood comment, could end their careers. But their actions affect women’s careers, too — potentially depriving them of the kind of relationships that lead to promotions or investments.
It’s an unintended consequence of a season of sex scandals. Research shows that building genuine relationships with senior people is perhaps the most important contributor to career advancement. In some offices it’s known as having a rabbi; researchers call it sponsorship. Unlike mentors, who give advice and are often formally assigned, sponsors know and respect people enough that they are willing to find opportunities for them, and advocate and fight for them.
But women are less likely to build such relationships, in part because both senior men and junior women worry that a relationship will be misread by others. At every level, more men than women say they interact with senior leaders at least once a week, according to research by McKinsey and the nonprofit Lean In. This imbalance is a major reason women stall at lower levels of companies, according to a variety of research.
And they all had a good laugh at Mike Pence’s crazy superstitions about one on one meetings with women.
The ceiling is made of bulletproof glass, for your protection.
Sexual harassment protection, women hardest hit…
It’s an unintended consequence of a season of sex scandals.
Well, no. Its a foreseeable result of our current laws, is what it is.
Exactly.
Anecdotal evidence. Female project manager had asked a few of us to do something. It was a dumb something and we had told her over and over again that it was dumb and we wouldn’t be doing it.
During a big group meeting she asked again. One male colleague rolled his eyes first and the woman lost it. Slammed her laptop shut, swore at the guy and stormed out. By the end of the day, an HR complaint had been filed (not just the original guy, but all of us who had not done her task). The only reason the guy beat the rap is that there was another female in that meeting and she vouched for all of us men. It was infuriating to have to go to HR though and defend yourself.
After that, no one wanted to work with the PM and anyone who did have to work with her made sure everything was documented to the end of the earth. Eventually she had to transfer from the software side of the house to hardware because she had burned all her bridges.
Sadly, she also tainted all the women who joined our group after. We all treated them as potential trouble and kept our distance.
“according to a variety of research.” right all that solid research.
So solid, it doesn’t even need to be named specifically.
I’m going to guess that the same dynamics affects minorities too.
Why stick your neck out for someone who had a magic HR stick to beat you with? No good deed goes unpunished.
I’m going to guess that the same dynamics affects minorities too.
Hard to fire, hard to hire.
” In some offices it’s known as having a rabbi; ”
What (((offices))) would those be?
On hurricanes and global warming, a piece from the National Hurricane Center’s forecast discussion on newly formed Tropical Storm Ophelia (far eastern Atlantic, won’t come near anything resembling land):
Translated: It’s not the water temperature that matters, it’s water temperature versus surface temp and temp further aloft. “Rising sea surface temperatures”, even if that is happening, don’t do much.
It’s a pretty obvious conclusion if you merely examine the principles of meteorology. The most basic principle is that the higher the delta T, the more likely a storm is to be violent.
Finally, a hurricane with a classy name, and the bitch just wanders off.
Sorry to rain on your parade, but did you check the date on that article? October 1. Which means it was published right before the Vegas massacre, and is probably outdated. The bills mentioned there are probably on hold.
A Tragic Tale
As Latin America remembers Guevara’s death, the region also faces a larger reckoning with the same leftist movements that drew on him for inspiration.
The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, the region’s largest remaining guerrilla group, came out of the jungle and gave up its arms this year in a war where no one won but Colombia lost more than 220,000 people.
The Socialist-inspired movement of the late President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela led to gains in education and health care, but the country has sunk into hunger, unrest and dictatorship.
Even Cuba, which for years proudly lived under the revolutionary banner hung by Guevara, now faces an uncertain fate as a détente reached with the United States unravels under the Trump administration.
Poor Che. He just wanted to make the world a better place. I blame neoliberalism.
I like how all the fucking leftists hang on to those first two years when consuming capital and expropriating and destroying years and years of wealth accumulation makes things seem to improve, followed by bad luck and neoliberalism. It is like spending your retirement savings on booze and parties and then while starving at old age thinking it worked at first. I could sell my house and live it up for a couple of years. Then what?
That analogy is spot-on.
Socialism is unsustainable, but lefties seem to forget that word when it comes to anything related to economics.
You run out of your own money. So yeah, same basic principle.
Well, the important thing is that everybody got their little slice of goose.
“The Socialist-inspired movement of the late President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela led to gains in education and health care”
Yeah. That was the part before they ran out of other people’s money. These dumbfucks never learn. Millions of retards in the USA want to take us down that very same path.
From the gun article: “The second major weapons legislation the House is planning to consider separately this fall would allow people to carry concealed weapons in any state if it is allowed in the state where they live.
The bill would undermine regulations in states such as California and New York that require applicants for such a permit to demonstrate a need and submit to background checks. A dozen states have no permit requirement for carrying a concealed weapon.”
I fail to see the problem with this. I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have to worry about whatever fucktarded law your shitty state has passed just to drive through or visit it.
Reciprocity should be SOP for anything like DL’s, CCW’s, ML’s etc.
(That’s a lot of acronyms. Fuck it.)
I’ve been trying to figure out how it would work for someone stuck in the evil states if they got an out of state permit in a less evil state.
Short-term, complicated.
Until there was a legal challenge – ideally, some kind of emanation or penumbra of the Full Faith and Credit Clause – which directly confronted the issue that the inhabitants of New York are not enjoying the same rights that an inhabitant of Paducah, KY enjoys.
If I understand this bill correctly, it would only work if you had residence in the less evil state and got your permit there. But maybe it would at least keep people from being arrested at JFK or Laguardia when they declare their packed guns to the ticket counter.
So, people from Vermont could carry in New Jersey with just a driver’s license, while New Jersey residents couldn’t carry at all. Not sure how that works.
It would get worse. What happens if the Vermonter is loaded with hollow points?
Better, a valid issued CCW license from any state, not just your state of residence, is valid in any other state.
The only issue, which shouldn’t be one (SLD), is VT and the other constitution carry states. If Vermont Residency gives you the right to carry, how could any other state have something to issue? anyone is valid if they pass the NICS or whatever it is.
Slate accidentally gets one right (at least the lede is correct — I didn’t actually read the article).
http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2017/10/if_fair_share_fees_are_unconstitutional_so_is_forcing_unions_to_advocate.html
If the Supreme Court thinks nonmembers can’t be compelled to pay union fees, then unions can’t be compelled to represent nonmembers.
wait i thought that would be well obvious
“But the notion that unions must advocate on behalf of non–union members like Mark Janus at all actually violates unions’ First Amendment right to freedom of association. Forcing unions to advocate on behalf of nonmembers for free, however—as the court is poised to do—would be comically unconstitutional. As a result, if Abood is overturned and fair share fees fall by the wayside, then the federal mandate compelling unions to bargain on behalf of nonmembers must fall along with them.”
Well, Duh.
IIRC, a lot of union pay scales are based on the average of non-union pay…so don’t they have a vested interest in making sure non-union wages rise as well? Not to mention that as a business, you would want to keep your pay packages fairly close to keep union participation as low as possible.
Of course, the unions crying about freedom of association is rich, since the NLRA is written, and the NLRB exists, to violate employer’s freedom of association.
And employees individually.
I read it so you don’t have to. There point is correct, but it was presented in a way to imply that both ideas are ridiculous.
Their
I did finally read it.
Amazing how people can get it, without actually getting it.
The leftist approach to the “free rider” issue is really fucked up.
In the case of unions, they’ve basically said that since all employees benefit from the machinations of the union (which is debatable) then the union has the right to extract money from all members. But if you choose to deliver a “benefit” to a group of people, but you do it in such a way that delivers the “benefit” to more people than you intended, that doesn’t give you the right to force them to give you whatever price you want.
If I sang opera in my backyard and charged five dollars for admission, I couldn’t go to my neighbor’s house the next day and say, “I know you heard my performance last night, and everyone else had to pay five bucks, so pay up! You derived a benefit but you didn’t pay your fair share!“
I am not amused
The bill would undermine regulations in states such as California and New York that require applicants for such a permit to demonstrate a need and submit to background checks. A dozen states have no permit requirement for carrying a concealed weapon.”
My concern is still the probability of a “compromise” in which our noble lords and protectors agree to reciprocity in exchange for a “reasonable” baseline conformity, which will move the needle in the wrong direction for the majority of states. We’ll end up more like New Jersey, and less like Vermont. I don’t think they’ll be able to gut “shall issue” but I assume they’ll try to impose a bunch of “training” and suchlike bullshit requirements. I see they’re back to talking about how gun owners should have liability insurance just like car owners.
Clearly the answer is national constitutional carry.
Yeah, obviously the second amendment should fully apply in all states, but somehow that is not deemed “reasonable”.
I see they’re back to talking about how gun owners should have liability insurance just like car owners.
Shall. Not. Be. Infringed.
It’s simply a way to stop the poor (especially poor minorities) from protecting themselves.
Some awesome Chris Foerster memes are popping up on the Tweeters
All I am seeing are a bunch of “If he was black and not white, things would be 1000000000X worse”
I saw a bunch of Scarface and other coke-related memes.
Clearly the answer is national constitutional carry.
I deem this to be an acceptable compromise.
Unless our noble solons decide that the price we pay for recognition of your constitutional rights is a registry, mandatory training, etc etc etc,
I’ve been trying to figure out how it would work for someone stuck in the evil states if they got an out of state permit in a less evil state.
“What is, ‘arrest and imprisonment’ Alex?
Is this the one you get from poop or sex?
http://www.breitbart.com/california/2017/10/08/california-hepatitis-a-outbreak-on-verge-of-statewide-epidemic/
Why not both?
Primarily poop but depends on the sex I guess. I learned them as A and E are from something you AtE. B, C, D are from BlooD. The blood borne ones are also sexually transmitted
LOL Scott Adams. I was so happy when I discovered he wasn’t part of the liberal media machine.
He is awesome, and sharp as a tack.
Just found out that story involved Lauren Sivan. It’s awful when it happens to anyone, but she was great on Red Eye, so that somehow seems to make it even shittier to me
Oh, the one where he jacked off in front of her?
Another rat slithering over the gunwales?
Backers of U.S. Sen. Susan Collins say they wish they could clone the moderate Republican powerbroker from Maine who has been a crucial swing vote in Congress as Republicans struggle to deliver on President Donald Trump’s legislative agenda.
Collins says she will decide during the Senate’s weeklong Columbus Day recess whether to stay in the Senate, where she has served for four terms, or again run for governor in Maine.
The Associated Press interviewed 10 of Collins’ current and former colleagues and staffers, along with Maine political observers. They said the senator is carefully weighing whether she can have more impact in the Senate or as a governor replacing the term-limited, Trump-allied Republican Gov. Paul LePage.
If she’s so goddam “influential” why is she tiptoeing toward the door?
I thought maybe she was quitting to check into some sort of assisted living facility for Alzheimers patients.
Exterminate the RINOs.
This is pretty fucked up.
http://nypost.com/2017/10/08/woman-lured-abroad-by-former-fling-in-sick-pull-a-pig-prank/
lol k
But yeah, that’s messed up and while she’s definitely not my type, she isn’t what I would call a “pig”
What a swine.
Saw this at that link: Stunning student can’t find love because guys ‘run a mile’ when they discover her extremely rare cancer could return
I dunno. Maybe save that info for the second date?
