In honor of having done the links this morning and my links supply being low, I give you the Wednesday Afternoon “empty links” to do with as you please.
Well, except for this one horrible link. I don’t advocate for mob violence, but I would probably have participated in the moment and regretted later.
…and some tunes. At least we still have David Bowie.
So hard to comment directly on the links then.
So, first*?
It’s only a semi-official first. I feel so empty inside.
There’s liquor to fill that emptiness.
Mead. Lots of mead.
A man after my own heart. And liver.
**AHEM** Fallen Timber Meadery. That Is All.
Duly noted! Thanks.
THanks for the happy link, jerk.
We, here at Glibertarians, aim to

*also looks at Bacon’s feet*
I’m safe, they’re trotters.
I wouldn’t be so sure.
Safe is such a flexible term…
Or just stay for the rape jokes. There are not a lot of places left where a distinction is made between rape jokes and rape. What mighty contests rise from trivial things.
RIP Florida Duke Boys
Looks like them Duke boys are at it again…oh, nope. Not anymore.
“Right about now them Duke boys were wishin’ they could grow wings, so they could learn to fly”
Prime contenders for the Darwin Award.
“None of the men were wearing seat-belts…”
I think I found the real culprit here, a few paras in. Talk about burying the lede.
Nice nut punch there.
If you were working you wouldn’t have seen it.

Oh my God, Trump has been kidnapped and replaced with a bad body double!
Don’t blame me, I voted for Kodos.
Good to see Owen Wilson working again.
*polite applause*
I have no idea what that is supposed to be.
Pffft..you wouldn’t
And why is the flag pin upside-down?
Put the pieces together. I want to believe
John Kerry’s face on Trump’s head?
Sloth from Goonies!
It’s a trap!
Now at least our comments will fit better with the content of the post.
I’ve read the link.
liar!
Hey bacon. You got a little something on your nose…yeah, a brown spot.
That’s just crisp.
The clowns, man. The clowns. They’re gonna kill us all. THEY’RE GONNA KILL US ALL!!!
That video is totes awfuls.
A selfy stick? Had not heard of that before.
It’s not a euphemism.
Then again, if the boy had been a teenager, it could very well have been.
In Haiti it is expected that any driver at fault causing fatalities is dragged from the vehicle and beheaded before the cops or ambulances arrive.
French is the language of civilization.
It has been argued (not by sensible people, of, course, but by economists) that we should prohibit drivers from wearing seat-belts and put. a sharp spike in the middle of every steering wheel. Haiti is clearly acting as a “laboratory” in the Millsian sense here.

“The three worst words in the English language: Joyce Carol Oates”
– Gore Vidal
“saddest”.
but good enough
Damn it, you’re right.
*kicks rock*
I’m not good at this stuff
*picks up rock and throws it back*
Sure you are, we believe in you.
Aw shucks, thanks bacon
Throwing rocks at someone to encourage motivation and confidence?
I’ll allow it.
If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball.
You can’t spell encouragement without bacon magic.
As much as I hate Gore Vidal, he wasn’t wrong about her.
Joyce Carol Oates strikes me as a writer that everyone says is wonderful because everybody else says is wonderful. I can’t really think of anything she’s written that most people can actually name. People just know that they’re supposed to think she’s really talented.
Just like Ayn Rand must be hated because they are supposed to hate her.
I always figured her books were the feminine equivalent of things like Sidney Sheldon’s Rage of Angels.
Sheldon, of course, also created the TV series I Dream of Jeannie and won an Oscar for the screenplay to The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer.
The hell is her problem?
Racism, most likely (given the racial make-up of MS).
Lol
Was there a time when Men’s Health wasn’t complete crap?

yeah. When the life expectancy was 25
I was skinny when I was a pothead. I didn’t want food to effect my buzz so I only ate right before bed.
Ah, see I have a sensible meal BEFORE I smoke. If I get hungry again before bed, I just have some pork chop in a bottle.
Holy duck, I thought Iowa’s the only one would rather be high than eat
The munchies are mostly a myth. Maybe the first times people get high they munch out of amusement with food. But generally people eat less when high.
That said, sitting on the couch and eating freetos is correlated with smoking herb.
Casual observation: most potheads are skinny.
If I want to look at a gay magazine, I’ll try something with more pictures.

The disappearing black candidate.
This is getting traction. Northam might be fucked because of this – if black turnout is low, he doesn’t stand a chance.
What’s funny about that is that the Lt. Gov. candidate was removed because of his policy positions, not his race. The unions didn’t like him.
But the race angle is what will sink them, because that is how it is going to be spun.
Isn’t it great when identity politics bite the hand that feed them?
It’s about the pipeline. Fairfax is hard against the pipeline, which is a huge plus for the proggy rich people who own horse farms around Warrenton but a losing position with the electorate at large, and thus the unions in particular since axing the pipeline will cost jobs.
I mean, the hardcore progs already didn’t like Northam much. Now they have something silly to embrace as a reason not to vote for him.
Oh, I was wondering what those signs meant the last time I drove out that direction.
He still has the government workers in the north to pull him over the top. The true base of the Democratic Party: rich white liberals that live off of rent-seeking
Gillespie is actually now (narrowly) up in one poll, done before the Fairfax flier controversy. It will be interesting to see just where the turnout dropouts will be.
Isn’t the correct progressive response, “The racists FORCE us to be racist!! ITS REPUBLICANS FAULT WE HAVE TO BE RACIST TO WIN”?
We still have these guys, too.
Prince was fucking awesome in that clip.
He tore it up. The guitar toss at the end is so “rock star.” I saw an interview once (and posted it here I believe) where Tom Petty was talking about it. He said he had no idea where that guitar went.
I wish Prince had done a more with his guitar. He was a hell of a guitarist.
Supposedly he left a vault full of unreleased material.
Yes, I think that was some of his best stuff.
My wife got to tour his house, and I’m going to next month.
“Tour his house” is a pretty decent euphemism.
Went in through the back door?
That video is what made me a believer that Prince could shred.
Death pool futures on Lynne and Winwood rise sharply
In response to His Holiness from the morning links (since ain’t no one going back there now)…..Comm was 5954 and NavAids 5952, I think? They were the two around 5953, anyway. You go back to Millington – you might have known some of my instructors/SNCOs then, ya fossil. And yeah, we were definitely the misfit group in ATC. Very much our own little world, had little to do with even the rest of our own squadron for the most part, non-moto for the most part. That’s why I think HQMC would intentionally send us sergeants major who had been with the grunts their entire career, because they thought the resultant culture clashes would be hilarious. We got a new one in Oki who was a fucking hardass dickhead that had us doing field days around the barracks and squadrons constantly. Pissed off the gunnys in the det something fierce – “Doesn’t this asshole know this isn’t the grunts, that we actually have jobs to do when we’re in garrison?”
Could anybody translate this to English?
Jarhead is notorious difficult to translate into English.
my instructors/SNCOs = Old guys.
misfit group in ATC = Team of merry retards.
HQMC = Head Quarters Marine Corps
Oki = Okinawa
gunnys = Old guy, E-7 and above
sergeants major = Old guy, E-9, likely an asshole
5954 and NavAids 5952 = what they got up fast, kept it up long and spread Comm all over the AOR.
Retard is such a negative term.
I work with a lady that has a daughter with Down’s syndrome. She makes retard jokes all the time. I find it quite baffling. I never laugh because I’m afraid it’s a setup.
Dude, my niece has Downs and her father and I still throw the word around when appropriate. You’re probably safe.
Sowma syndrome people seem to me to be the happiest people in the world that I have ever met.
They are the epiriomy is innocence and happiness.
They are truly. God’s children
I use it all the time as an synonym to impede.
just retarded my dizzy a bit.
Marines are a bunch of impedes.
I’ve heard the term “sandbag” from my Army buddy.
Sigh I can never remember any of them except 5952 (because that is what I was).
The Sgt. Maj. for the squadron in Okinawa was an exgrunt, but he was a solid guy. He was one of the few guys in Oki who stood up and helped me out when all my contract troubles started. (Troubles were around an enlistment bonus).
My favorite story about the differences in our squadron vs the rest of the Corps was during Team Spirit ’88 in Pohang Korea. Since we were an ATC group, we flew in first, set up our gear and then ran the air station that everyone else flew into (and left from). So we were there a month early and stayed a month longer than most people. We set up a pretty luxurious encampment. One week, one of my buddy’s brothers came over to visit from the artillery. He was amazed at how well we were living “in the field”. He said in his company they would play cards after chow, the winner would get to sleep in the front seat of the company pickup truck (instead of a tent in the mud). We protested and said that we were roughing it because some asshole had forgotten to pack the remote control for the VCR we had set up in the mess tent.
Hahaha….tht story sounds very familiar.
In Uzbekistan, almost everyone else had to go to the USO tent and wait forever for phone calls (and had to pay with a calling card too) and internet. Meanwhile, the 19 of us Marines (everyone else on the base was AF or Army) had 4 computers with internet and 4 free DOD lines in our s-4 tent, as well as another computer and phone line at the head shed out at the radar site. Livin the life, baby!
Same story in Iraq, although the full detachment was at that one so more competition for the phones. Still beat waiting around the USO for 2 hours so you could make a 15 minute call.
Small world. My NG battalion (or maybe one of the companies) went to Team Spirit in 88 before my time and my squad leader had some crazy stories from that time.
Marines detail out of Millington too?
Not anymore. NATTC used to be in Millington before moving to Pensacola in the ’90s, which is joint Marines/Navy training for all aviation related fields.
So will the Astros over manage again today?
Jesus, that bull pen is moosh. They’d better pray K and Verlander pitch lights out…again.
Don’t you work?
/crosses T dots I. Stretches. Peels clementine. Sits down. Yawns.
I’m sorry. Were you saying something?
These euphemisms…
Unlikely. I imagine Hinch is sacrificing a live chicken for back to back complete games and goes to his pen only at gunpoint.
I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him go to a starter out of the pen, either Peacock or maybe even Morton. You aren’t going to see Chris Devenski again in this series, and Giles only after the 8th inning.
They wet their beds last night.
Pathetic.
As soon as Hinch pulled McCullers for giving up a somewhat meaningless solo homer to Judge, their odds of losing that game increased. McCullers should have fucking unloaded on Hinch the instant he stepped out of the dugout.
You’ve got a pitcher doing a good job – 4 baserunners in 6 innings and only 81 pitches. Why gamble with a reliever in a bullpen that contains exactly zero potential hall of fame candidates?
My feeling exactly. Very panicky that move.
Eh, he was going into his third time through the order, which he historically has struggled in, and hasn’t pitched deep into a game in months. It sure as hell backfired, but I don’t think it’s an indefensible move. Ken Giles is actually a very good closer – just didn’t get it done last night.
Getting someone warmed up makes sense because of McCuller’s HISTORY. Making that move at that moment was stupid because of McCullers PRESENT. At least let him pitch to Gregorius – you have to find out if McCullers was losing it or if Judge just made a good guess on the first pitch.
Yeah. I imagine Verlander probably did have a conversation in game 2 that was: “You better bring some help if you come to pull me”. Not sure McCullers has earned that yet.
Wasn’t (isn’t) John Lackey like that?
No one will top Black Jack Morris telling Tom Kelley he was going back out to pitch the 10th inning in Game 7.
Or at least they can remember how to hit the ball. That’d help.
Tanaka-san has been pretty damned locked-in at home lately. Hasn’t given up more than 2 runs at home since July 9.
So will the Astros over manage again today?
I hope so. I’m pulling for the Yankees.
Bowie rocks!
Ah, memories.
Al Sharpton gazes off in the distance fondly remembering when he was a younger and more obese race baiter
That was a truly epic one by him though. The “Diamond Dealers” comment, the chants aat the march, the “Hitler didn’t finish the job” banner at the funeral…
He’s such a good person and so original. I mean no one ever picks on Jews

“Inside a Secretive Group Where Women Are Branded
ALBANY — Last March, five women gathered in a home near here to enter a secret sisterhood they were told was created to empower women.
To gain admission, they were required to give their recruiter — or “master,” as she was called — naked photographs or other compromising material and were warned that such “collateral” might be publicly released if the group’s existence were disclosed.
The women, in their 30s and 40s, belonged to a self-help organization called Nxivm, which is based in Albany and has chapters across the country, Canada and Mexico.
Sarah Edmondson, one of the participants, said she had been told she would get a small tattoo as part of the initiation. But she was not prepared for what came next.
Each woman was told to undress and lie on a massage table, while three others restrained her legs and shoulders. According to one of them, their “master,” a top Nxivm official named Lauren Salzman, instructed them to say: “Master, please brand me, it would be an honor.”

A female doctor proceeded to use a cauterizing device to sear a two-inch-square symbol below each woman’s hip, a procedure that took 20 to 30 minutes. For hours, muffled screams and the smell of burning tissue filled the room.”

The difference between the U.S. and China.
My God, that’s monstrous.
I don’t understand their hieroglyphics. Did the child survive? Maybe I don’t want to know
She died from brain trauma several days later.
You’re a real downer today. The first time I click on one of your links in a long time and it’s depressingly safe for work
If you watch long enough to see the reaction of her mother, going to guess no.
That mother almost broke me out in tears at work. I’m not ashamed to cry but that would have me balling for a while .
Having a kid has ruined my cold cold soul. I’m like a woman now. I discovered a salty discharge coming from my eyes not too long ago while watching a movie.
that would have me balling for a while .
Dude, I mean, I read SF joints and click HM links, but that’s just wrong.
Jesus. Couldn’t it have been a comparison of twerking styles instead?
In the US, they’d throw the parents in jail, then the news media would make the story about how babies were being run over because of Trump
Thankfully I was quick on the draw and closed the browser window before I saw the whole video. But I saw enough to get the idea.
I have a friend who just got back from China. She said she’d never go back, due to the lack of hospitality and general rudeness. But we’re supposed to be more like China, right?
I have Youtube videos set up not to play.
However, Youtube did something with their last change that screwed up the various Firefox add-ons.
Don’t you yearn for a one-party autocracy led by reasonably enlightened people????
They get things done.
Always reminds me of how the fascists weren’t so bad because they made the trains run on time.
Thomas Friedman sure thinks so.
oof….glad I was quick on the close window button there.
OMFG. I couldn’t get past forty seconds. The depravity is inhumane. WTF?
I take it that poor child died?
It doesn’t make sense.
Fuck.
They blame it on fear of being sued, but damn… that’s cold.
You mean more laws don’t make us safer? Let me get my surprised face…*picks up face, reads label* huh, made in China.
That, and the Confucian Circle. If you’re inside the circle, they’ll do anything for you. If you’re outside, well go get fucked. It’s part and parcel of the Chinese culture and contributes heavily to corruption.
On the flip side, they think we’re crazy for treating homeless people better than extended family members.
^This^
And it’s more than just China.
We only treat homeless people well because they vote properly.
We only treat homeless people well because
theyenlightened party activists voteproperlyvicariously through them.it sure didn’t look like that. if that were the case, you’d think they would have cordoned the area off and demanded someone get ‘the authorities’
In an authoritarian society, you aren’t allowed to decide when the authorities should be called.
There is some truth to that. Prior to the incident I linked to, a classic scam in China was someone “falling” and asking for assistance and when a bystander helped him or her, the con artist would sue them for injuring them. The death of this child led to China’s first “Good Samaritan” laws.
I hope this law doesn’t impose a duty to render aid unless a special relationship exists (such as parent-child or if you cause the injury). I think that’s a step backward on the freedom scale.
Otherwise, limiting liability for rendering aid, as Good Samaritan laws aim to do, is a step up.
i don’t know which of these 2 possibilities gives me a lower-opinion of the chinese. that no one helps strangers, or that strangers try and bait decent people, just to sue them.
It is, but probably not the way you think it is. Basically, if a driver hits someone with their car and victim dies, the driver can still get sued by the family. If the driver hits someone and the victim doesn’t die, then the victim can sue for medical costs, inability to work, etc. pretty much for life.
Since the cost of a dead victim is a hell of a lot cheaper than a survivor, it creates perverse incentives for drivers to make sure that if they hit someone, better make sure that person is dead, even if it means backing up and finishing the job.
I now remember seeing articles about that. that the fatalities from hit+run drivers was like 10X what it was in other countries. Because people were like, “Fuck, better make sure they’re dead”
I wonder if the reaction would have been different had the child been a boy.
boys are biologically less valuable, so unlikely.
what about culturally? wasn’t that one of the big repercussions of the “1 child” policy in china? tens of millions of excess males.
Jesus, HM. That might be the nutpunch to end all nutpunches. I have a baby daughter and I teared up watching that.
god damn i keep forgetting Always Be Incognito Windowing with HM links
What a relief
But now it looks as if Obamacare markets won’t face wholesale devastation, regardless of whether that legislation passes. In 2018, at least, insurers may be made whole and consumers protected — even without the subsidies.
How could that be? The details are complicated, but the crux is that insurers and state regulators worked together to find a way to funnel more federal money into the Obamacare insurance markets.
The insurer-regulator hack will mean that navigating the Obamacare marketplace will be more complicated for consumers (more on that later). And the change will cost taxpayers more money — perhaps $21 billion more in 2018 alone. But, in the end, most customers will be unharmed by the president’s decision, and a substantial fraction will be better off, able to buy plans for about the same price they pay now, yet with lower deductibles.
I was afraid it was going to turn into a clusterfuck.
Attacking the price people pay for a good and not the cost of the good itself…what an idiotic mess this is.
And the change will cost taxpayers more money — perhaps $21 billion more in 2018 alone. But, in the end, most customers will be unharmed
This only makes sense if most customers aren’t taxpayers. Which I doubt is actually the case.
Of course, we’re still pretending that government spends the taxpayer’s money. It doesn’t. It spends its own money – some of it borrowed, some of it taken from people.
As I ranted this morning, it drives me nuts that governments using subsidies to hide the cost increases is not universally scorned. Instead, the pols tell us rubes that we are lucky to have them to save us from double digit increases in our premiums. But they saved the day with Fed money!
Why does no one ask where that Federal subsidy comes from?
That $21B in 2018? Found it in the cushions of the Lincoln Memorial. Don’t worry your pretty little head about it.
Somehow when it comes to subsidies progs suddenly remember how passing on the cost to the consumer works. I’ve seen several variants of the complaint that by cutting subsidies to the insurance companies, the cost will be passed along to the insurance purchasers or sued for by the companies (who will of course win according to this argument). In the case of the purchasers the cost increase is covered by personal subsidies but they’ll be higher than if the insurance company was just paid directly. In the case of the settlement, the government pays the same as before plus costs of lawfare. This is most definitely not an example of stimulus spending. And this type of logic definitely does not apply to tax cuts.

So Uncle Joe is more free speech-friendly than the Rethuglikkkan Guvnor of my state?
I guess so
Kasich is repulsive. When Joe fucking Biden is more free-speech friendly than you, you suck ass.
Kasich is, in fact, a turd.
One of the stinkiest.

Yep, we FINALLY got him! This will bring him down once and for all, reverse the election, and put Hillary into her rightful place as President.
Yeah, we talked in morning lynx about the actual news items the “press” is ignoring in order to cover this.
Aren’t all his conversations recorded? Seems pretty stupid to accuse him of this when you know their is a recording. What’s that? A politician that wears bedazzled cowboy hats and makes Nancy Pelosi seem as smart as Einstein is involved? You don’t say!
*walks into traffic*
Aren’t all his conversations recorded?
I don’t know. There are actually legal restrictions on recording phone conversations that vary by state.
I assumed everything a President did was recorded. Heck, everything we do is being recorded.
*rages at metadata collection again*
Some version of the sentiment “He knew what he was signing up for was dangerous, but did it anyway” has been a parcel of pride for many people in the military. It’s basically just a way of saying they sacrifice for something they believe.
I guess some people find that sort of attitude to be for suckers, or a sign they were duped or oppressed.

I’m glad I’m not the only one whose brain went there.
Multiple shooters at the Las Vegas concert.
They must want us to form conspiracy theories. Why else would there still be more questions than answers about an incident right in the middle of the densest video surveillance on earth?
The latest idea says Paddock was ATF or FBI and selling the guns as a sting. I guess they don’t do back-up?
Maybe this is why the CIA doesn’t want the Kennedy information released.
Insurers in more than 40 states have decided to compensate for the missing cost-sharing subsidies by making hefty increases to the prices of this silver plan — but small or no increases to their other plans. Consumers who qualify for subsidies are still asked to pay the same fraction of their income toward a health plan, and the federal government pays the insurers the rest of the higher silver-plan premium. So consumers are no worse off, and insurers make up for the loss of the cost-sharing subsidies canceled by Mr. Trump.
This was once known as “robbing Peter to pay Paul” I believe.
How can you increase the premiums for a plan without harming consumers who don’t qualify for subsidies? Isn’t saying “consumers are no worse off” without qualification just a flat out lie?
…yeah.

That disclaimer made me smile.
Must be a slow news day. Local news reruns crazy stupid panic story.
Basically opiods are laced with fentanyl and it is so dangerous that crime scene investigators are in dire peril even testing that stuff in the lab. Funny how skilled lab techs are almost killed each day, while zonked out junkies handle it without any issues.
Well, they seem to die regularly, but only AFTER introducing it intravenously.
Granted. But I don’t seem to read about some poor dealer who is killed because he has a bunch of this shit in his pockets.
I just wish once, these news people would openly mock these drug warrior retards on air.
If it wasn’t so damn difficult to get legal opiates this would much less of a problem.
+infinity There was a time not too long ago when Laudanum was OTC; somehow the human race survived.
And right on cue, we had a local news story about a county suing the drug companies.
The War on Drugs is evil, and the people prosecuting it are evil people.
As someone who has done his fair share of fentanyl in the past its bull shit. For sure. But thanks assholes for running g nonsense stories like this so they could justify putting a 5 yr mandatory minimum on its posession.
More Men’s Health claptrap.

I am aware that there are people (even on this very board!) that practice this and apparently find success with it. I just can’t help but think that the people interviewed about it (usually in generally but especially in this story) sound like teenagers talking about their boyfriends and girlfriends. No one that *I’ve* ever known who did this type of thing had what could be described as a happy personal life, but what the hell do I know?
I’m in a relationship like this that has been working fine for 10 years.
Amen to you. What’s the ratio?
My wife has two boyfriends and I have a girlfriend. It’s not for everyone, but it works quite well for us.
To each his own
Absolutely, if you can make it work, more power to you.
DEGENERACY!
stand still, pradeep
I also know a stable group who sometimes have outside friends join who are now at least five years on from their founding. They are all nice people who seem very happy. Which is basically all I judge about relationships now.
How many are they up to now?
As best I can tell its a stable foursome that live together. I don’t hang out with them since I left Tallahassee but I know at least one of the women had a boyfriend at some point who wasn’t “in” the group? I’m not sure how to describe, and I never really asked for an explanation since its none of my business. Just would see two, three, four of them out together and also the one out with her boyfriend.
I wouldn’t want to pry, I would just be interested to learn about a culture I’m not familiar with.
Honestly, they probably would have told me all about it if I asked. I’m just so ridiculously monogamous/lazy by nature that the idea of having multiple partners to care about tired me out before I even got around to asking how it worked.
Also, there certainly seems to be a glut of these articles coming out in the past few months. Did the journolist decide that poly is the next thing they have to promote? There was the whole swingers key-party stuff in the 70’s, then everyone got scared of AIDS and cooled it for a couple of decades, now no one’s scared of AIDS anymore so all bets are off? Pan-resistant syph and gonorrhea are pretty terrifying…
Any STD outbreak will be the result of Trump weakening Obamacare.
It does seem like there have been several articles about this recently. I saw polyamory glommed into the LGBTQWXYZ bullshit a while back and couldn’t help but feel highly annoyed.
My theory:
Millenials are terrified of commitment/growing up, and so create fancy pathological terms to explain their dating
Never rub another man’s rhubarb!
Some of these sound more like polyandry or just an open relationship. I thought polyamory was where all the relationship participants were with each other equally.
It’s my understanding that an open relationship basically means it’s OK to have fuck buddies, whereas with polyamory you have a serious relationship with more than one person.
Now I find that interesting, what makes the relationship you have with your wife different from the one you have with your girlfriend?
And furthermore, what’s the point in having a distinction?
The distinction is that I don’t think I’d ever marry the girlfriend if that were an option. I love her dearly, but she can be a colossal pain in the ass at times. You know how you sometimes think about that old girlfriend from years ago, and you knew even then it couldn’t work, but you just had so much damn fun hanging around with her and love her to this day? She’s like that. The wife is the one “it” definitely works with.
Fascinating. Does your wife feel the same way about her boyfriends? Do you guys talk about your extra-marital activities or is that a part of your life that’s just compartmented?
Oh, sure, the wife and I talk about the others all the time. The very best part of our relationship is how we can be completely open with each other.
pardon what might be considered a crass question, but if your wife has “it” why do you need (or want, whatever) other women?
I knew the girlfriend first.
You know how you sometimes think about that old girlfriend from years ago, and you knew even then it couldn’t work, but you just had so much damn fun hanging around with her and love her to this day?
No, not really. But I’m a very different guy than I was back then. Hell, even then the only thing that kept me in the last relationship so long was a lack of self-confidence and that she was willing to do nearly anything. I couldn’t possibly imagining putting up with the giant pile of shit today that I put up with back then. I was much more naive and much less picky back then.
I do wonder why you would get married. It seems that if I tried putting myself in your shoes I’d be digging the whole friends with benefits and casual dating scene. Marriage seems like a dump truck full of other people’s problems for not much benefit.
I’m not either, but my good friend. and colleague is poly, and married with children. In his case the difference matters quite a bit- he and his wife own a house together, have a child together, and generally act legally like a normal married couple.
Each has, at least sometimes, other relationships, some bi, but it’s sort of amazing how otherwise bourgeois they are. Far more so than me. I’m straight and single, and more omnivorous than anything else.
I live with my wife and see her every day, our finances are entangled, typical married couple stuff. I see the girlfriend a few times a month. I help her fix her car, or maybe we just have dinner together. She lives an hour away so getting together more often can be inconvenient. So this difference is, now that I think about it, with the girlfriend it feels a bit more like dating. We’ve just been dating since 2004.
Interesting, thanks.
Don’t answer if you don’t want, but is that enough for the girlfriend? Seems like she would get lonely.
An hour with a Glibertarian feels like a day with a normie!
It’s probably not enough for her, but she’s got the sort of personality where she becomes dependent on you after a while, and I strongly suspect she’s better off maintaining some independence. You can’t always get what you want, but sometimes you get what you need.
An hour with a Glibertarian feels like a day with a normie!
*removes Pan from the “Good Commenters” list*
Do you support the wife financially? Do the boyfriends also support her?
I guess I would find it intolerable to pay for the car and gas for a girl to fuck someone else.
That makes sense. I was thinking of the difference between someone like Charlie Sheen and his two partners versus a typical polygamy marriage where the wives aren’t in relationships with each other.
I also thought this article about 3-ways was similarly…. dubious, at best. Particularly the argument that its only appealing to women if its with 2 dudes, and they touch each others wangs.
I don’t buy the polyamory thing so much either. On one level, sure, its just low-level dating. I had gf’s in college where we both stated up front that we were just going to be ‘friends w/ benefits’. but in 3 cases, all of them stopped wanting to fuck as soon as they learned you were banging someone else. i think the appeal of sex for many (men and women) is ‘possession’ of another person, on some level. people just aren’t real good at sharing, especially stuff they put their dicks in.
“people just aren’t real good at sharing, especially stuff they put their dicks in”
There are obvious evolutionary reasons for this. Not to say that our higher brains can’t hit the manual override and make it work in some cases, however those evolutionary obstacles are what always led me to believe these types of arrangements are Utopian.
*scratches “underwear-share” off potential business plan list*
I’d install that app, just to see who was on it.
OMWC wants to share underwear with little girls.
*aforementioned article about 3-ways
**my particular gripe was the idea that the main-appeal to women was watching dudes gay-out. imho, it doesn’t work that way in practice. and i don’t believe data would show that to be the dominant form of tri-coupling (i’d bet MFF happens at least 2x rate of MMF)
So the opposite of porn?
I don’t know what porn you watch. the 3-ways i
come acrossstumble upon tend to besplit 50/50uh, about equal amounts of both.I suspect what happens is the couple decide to do it and the woman discovers she can get laid every night whenever she wants for free because that is how the world works while the man expends a good deal of time and resources to get one woman.
To each their own I guess but that strikes me as a shit deal for men.
Nice thing about being a Glib, is the live and let live attitude. I have two women in my life I love dearly. One I live with, the other I’m with 2-3 days a week. They rarely talk to each other (no kinky threesome action), but they’re accepting. I would have no problem with either of them taking a partner, but that rarely happens.
It’s been working for five years now. Will it last? Does any relationship last? Sometimes life gets in the way of any relationship.
I suspect that for most of the population, it doesn’t work. Jealousy is hardwired into us, as a species. Some people, however, lack that bit in the same way a sociopath lacks basic empathy. I lack jealousy. One partner lacks jealousy. The other…well, life isn’t prefect. All three of us try to be sympathetic to each other.
I’m not saying we should all embrace and approve of that sort of thing, but keep in mind that the Libertarian party was the first to embrace homosexuality.

Oh, you mean Downie.
The Hip were quite the sensation up here.
America is loaded with singer songwriters and bands that speak to and for Americana and American themes. Canada not so much. Neil Young did so on the periphery, Gordon Lightfoot invested more into it. But I take it that’s a function many of our biggest performers split for the USA before they could do so and they sure as hell weren’t gonna do it for an American audience be it The Guess Who, BTO, Paul Anka or Anne Murray, Rush went all spacey and The Band chose to explore Southern roots.
But The Tragically Hip were a band willing to make it a feature in their music and it was instant love and sensation.
Just giving a perspective on why this band matters up here.
Ugh. Mangled the grammar. But you get the gist.
Great Big Sea spent how many years singing “We are Maritimers” and you don’t mention them?
Also, honorable mention to Stan Rogers (h/t John Titor)
Stompin’ Tom Connors.
I see.
I honestly never heard of any of them.
I still don’t get the connection to Ry Cooder
HM: Cooder was a session guitarist in the 70s-80s who developed like a 3rd career in the 1990s by finding/promoting world music acts.
e.g. Buena Vista Social Club being the most successful of his projects.
The album w/ Ry Cooder + Ali Farka Toure was also a surprisingly big hit. everyone who bought the record convinced like 10 others to buy it.
Is that so? Actually, I’m more surprised now that I haven’t heard of Cooder yet!
Good slide guitar player. Something of a musicologist also.

Those are plecostomus. I had one in an aquarium as a child. Really cool fish. Never heard of them being a problem before.
Me either. I have one in my tank right now, affectionately known as “Shop Vac.”
What kind of tank do you have?
I used to be really into the planted freshwater tank thing until my 75g cracked during a move. Haven’t had the heart or money to get into it again since.
I’m gonna flaunt my aquarium nerd card by making everybody aware that this site exists.
I love those things.
Fried or in a sushi roll?
Ive never heard of them being a problem. Now Lion fish, they’re a problem.
I had one that grew to be about 8″ long. They do a great job keeping the tank clean. I read they are shaped that way because they hang out in rivers, stuck to rocks. They also have organs that can take oxygen from air, so sometimes they go up to the surface and get a gulp of air.
They can get up to 30″.
I seriously hope this isn’t a euphemism.
They are hard to kill.
Had a friend that let his 20 gallon tank go to hell. All that was left was the plecostomus and a goldfish.
My sister found one in an abandoned fish tank in a shed. Who knows how long it lived there before she found it.
Me too.

Long Beach, CA restaurant caught buying Popeye’s chicken and serving it for $13
To be fair, Popeye’s chicken is fucking awesome.
There was a mini-scandal when it was revealed that many high-priced restaurants served pre-prepped/warmed up meals. sometimes they were super-high-end items which they had concocted/prepared themselves, but in other cases it was shit they literally ordered from SYSCO and simply ‘modified’ slightly to produce their gourmet-appearance.
i think the main fakes were sauces/soups. can’t remember. Maybe desserts too.
I’ve had SYSCO stuff that was freakin’ awesome. Years ago when my Mom died and we held a remembrance tea for her at the seniors’ centre where she spent the last four years of her life, the in-house chef ordered some of the “high-end” carrot cakes from SYSCO (instead of, as he put it, “their normal shit”). I just about lost my shit when I tasted that cake. I hope my Mom (wherever she is) is getting served that cake every damn day. Along with boat drinks with her friends. LOTS of boat drinks.
Yep. they know their business.
among some of the most bullshit-wrong things that many americans believe (e.g. like that ‘crime is rising’)… is that Food in america isn’t high-quality, or is inherently unhealthy in some way. Terms like “factory farms”, or insinuating that everything made by large corporations is made w/ the cheapest possible ingredients and its all basically poison covered up with corn-syrup. etc etc.
I spent over a decade working as an analyst in the food-beverage industry. every time i did any deep-dive work w/ a company, more often than not i would discover that the exact opposite was true; that absolutely everything was done with an absurdly high-degree of attention to quality and integrity, and every ingredient was probably twice as expensive as it needed to be, simply to help promote a robust supply chain where their own ingredient-suppliers could themselves improve their quality-control and guarantee consistency etc.
the entire ‘wellness/natural’ foods-industry (organic, ‘artisinal’, locally-sourced ingredients, whole-foods, etc) is based on maximizing misconceptions people have about food. Meanwhile, most of the regular shit you can get at your supermarket is probably 10X better than what you could get anywhere else in the world for the same amount of money. Yet almost everyone believes the opposite: that other countries, in their poverty, are somehow closer to nature, and therefore the food is untainted by corporate evil.
They are closer to nature. their food is contaminated with feces and bugs. How can you get closer to nature than that?
There’s a Mexican place by my house that I’m 99% sure just gets their Chicken Flautas from Costco.

it reminds me of liberal arguments about how every new Republican president is the worst ever, while all the past ones were less-bad by contrast. “Why can’t you find a *good* conservative!”, they moan. Then they describe someone who is basically a democrat.
I think we can find a speaker who will talk about free speech issues, without running the risk of offending students.
Sure, Dean Abramson, sure. I have no doubt that, if some conservative students complained that you were brining someone who talks about “toxic masculinity”, “wypipo” or “what’s wrong with white men”, you’d be the first in line insisting they be disinvited. Absolutely. And let’s discuss this beautiful bridge between Manhattan and Brooklyn I have to sell you.
I think we can find a speaker who will talk about free speech issues, without running the risk of offending students
Well, yer doin’ it wrong, by caring one iota about “the risk of offending students.” So this will fail, because it was doomed to failure, because you’re an idiot.
As I said, somehow, I doubt it’s offending students that he objects to. It’s offending student he agrees with that is “problematic”.
When I went to college, we had a range of speakers from Boris Yeltsin to Louis Farrakhan. Sure there were protests, sure people got offended, but nobody shut them down.
On my campus we had pro-Iraq War (Part I, starring GHWB) demonstrations.
Did you go to The Citadel? I showed up in an ROTC uniform to class knowing I would have to answer questions like, “is it really worh it?”
If we had speakers when I was in college, I was too drunk/stoned/dosed to notice. Upside: I wasn’t offended.
For what it’s worth, I don’t think Boris noticed where he was either. I met him in person before the talk, he was completely pickled.
hay! i had farrakhan too. and i went to see him. worth the $5. (they charged for some events. i think it was voluntary for students, and i paid on some emergent libertarian principle). He was hilarious, and not a bad speaker.
i think the worst person i saw was Naomi Wolfe.
The earth tones just didn’t do it for you?
This is 1994 Naomi Wolfe
not bad, but not knockout hot
she was flogging her “The Beauty Myth” book. Which was a sort of “Fashionable Feminist” posture of the 1990s.
Instead of the unshaved armpits of the 1970s, and overt-dykiness of the 1980s, she was all for women being very fashionable and feminine; but at the same time, she wanted the right to bitch that Cosmopolitan and Vogue created ‘unrealistic’ notions of female beauty. It really never made any fucking sense – it was an early version of the sort of now-normal “i’m a feminist because i say i am, and i have the right to bitch about everything while hypocritically consuming it voraciously”
she was just a bad speaker, and dull witted. I think i asked her some questions just to see how shallow she was. She did the “turn to the audience instead of answering me”-thing, and said, “ok lets unpack what that question *really* means”. It was what i more or less expected.
I can’t remember what she was wearing. Farrakhan was wearing a neon blue tuxedo and looked like a fuckin’ pimp.
I guess that idea sunk into the culture since I hear the idea that beauty standards amhave drastically changed over time everywhere.
Meanwhile the statues of roman women appear to look like the same body type that men find attractive today.
Which men?
If this is the sort of female body type that makes you want to pull down your pants and whip it out, then I’m not here to judge.
That said, we do have pretty good ideas about fluctuations in beauty standards. It used to be that a tan was considered a marker of someone who was stuck toiling in the fields all day, and was low class. Pale was beautiful baby. Then the Industrial Revolution came along, and all the low class people spending their time toiling in factories and mines, so then tans meant someone with ample free time to enjoy the outdoors.
There are still plenty of places out there where being a big old tub of lard is seen as a sign of wealth. And where women shaving their pits or waxing their vags is considered really freaking weird.
Most men, there’s not as much variety as people like to pretend. Old women, prebuscent girls and obese women are raeky considered more sexy than women who are young and fit.

“Who Is Competent to Decide What Offends?
New survey data casts doubt on a popular framework used by universities to identify microaggressions.
Telling a recent immigrant, “you speak good English” was deemed “not offensive” by 77 percent of Latinos; saying “I don’t notice people’s race” was deemed “not offensive” by 71 percent of African Americans and 80 percent of Latinos; saying “America is a melting pot” was deemed not offensive by 77 percent of African Americans and 70 percent of Latinos; saying “America is the land of opportunity” was deemed “not offensive” by 93 percent of African Americans and 89 percent of Latinos; and saying “everyone can succeed in this society if they work hard enough” was deemed “not offensive” by 89 percent of Latinos and 77 percent of African Americans.”

As the ranks of college administrators have swelled in higher education, one task they’ve undertaken is more aggressively training students—and at times, faculty members— in what is variously called “cultural competence” or “diversity and inclusion.”
The aims of these efforts are laudable.
Aaaaaand you lost me.
The aims of these efforts are laudable.
Two thoughts:
(1) What are the stated aims v the actual aims?
(2) Who cares what you aim at if you hit something else?
The actual aim is power.
Sorry, they meant the word laughable.
They’re doing it wrong. It doesn’t matter if X percent of a group is offended. All that matters is one single person says they are offended, regardless of whether the statement was directed at them or they are white-knighting for some presumed victim group.
And that’s really just cover for what “ffense-mongering is really about. Its not about protecting feewings. Its about shutting down and punishing enemies.
Poor English certainly offends me. “Good” a fucking adjective.
It’s technically correct even if it’s clunky. I prefer the more accepted version,
“You sure do speak English real good.”
I don’t think it’s correct. “Good English” works the same way as “blue English” or “fat English” or “Canadian.” It describes the noun rather than saying anything about someone’s proficiency with the language.
I suppose so.
I speak American, so whatever.
Shit, did I just RCz Law that with a missing “is?”

Was he excoriating everyone to ask the hard questions and upload the responses to youtube? Because someone REALLY needs to do that.
I was soo tempted to use Lonewacko as my nom de plum here, just to be a troll. Cooler heads prevailed.
This reminds me of the time somebody said to me, “yer really confusing Mex, you speak with an educated voice–no offense.”
Offense as a subjective experience is pretty much taken at face value by most. I suppose we figure calling someone a “stupid kike” or something is objectively offensive, therefore other things are objectively offensive as well. It’s just that there’s so many things that are objectively offensive that we can’t list them all so we’ll just substitute a subjective standard. This leaves most language useable since most things people say are not offensive to anyone.
The problem is, nothing is objectively offensive, and the amount of things that people will claim is offensive to exercise power through harassment claims has grown. It’s become a way to control language under the guise of harassment avoidance.
That idea might as well be legal heroine or repeal of the 1964 CRA though. A world where you can call someone a stupid bitch at work and if your boss doesn’t care there’s no consequence is unacceptable to most people.
Even the objectively offensive stuff is still subjective for most people.
“Bitch, make me a sandwich,” would be an extraordinarily stupid thing to say to head of HR, but it can be an in joke between me and my girlfriend. I’ve said “Nigga please,” while talking over beers with a black coworker, and he just laughed it off.
I’ve never had to use ‘Stupid Kike’ in a conversation, but I’ve never lived an area with a large Jewish population. Although, I suppose if a Jewish cashier gave me too much change I could make fun of them for defying a stereotype.

I would love to see the Clinton’s go down in flames at the end of their repugnant lives. If they took the Obama’s with them, that’s even better.
Obama, increasingly rendered desperate by the incoming Trump administration, has Rice turn over her natsec credentials to Jarette, who starts the unmasking campaign hoping against hope that there’s something sufficiently damning to doom the Trump presidency. He, she, Rice, and Clinton end up on the same cell block.
Here’s hoping. I’d love to think we see out the end of the year with the Clintons indicted and Hillary facing spending the rest of her feeble life garbed in orange.

Love to see how single payer advocates who hold up nhs as shining example are going to defend this
Quite a few of them will be for it.
Their argument is compassionate to have healthcare for all
But here it is indisputable that monopolistic bureaucracy mission is saving itself, not healthcare
When they run short on money they don’t cut staff or red tape…they cut service
Yep, and having to cut service is just an excuse to hire more staff and create more red tape.
Aren’t you over there? I thought I remember saying you were
You already know how they’ll spin it. “Why should we pay for health care for this person who doesn’t care about their health when all these deserving non-smokers and non-fatties need care?” They’ll hand wave away any complaint that smokers and fat people pay taxes too, or any suggestion that single-payer was supposed to decrease costs so that everyone could get care. And they’ll do it because it’s working exactly as intended: your bettors get to ration healthcare to you, or not, as they see fit.
Ration healthcare as a tool for control and social engineering
That has always been the goal
THen they’ll clash with the body-positivity sect for “fat shaming”.
Usually how I try to argue against it. we ban soda sizes for our good, you don’t think they’ll make other things illegal for our health?
Wow. How long before they try to do that with drinking?
How long before they do that with not exercising? Or not wearing the proscribed black pajamas?
England has turned into a totalitarian shithole. How are they different from the old soviet union? It is a fucking disgrace what they have done to the land of the Magna Carta.
Im not sure youre considering the implications of my question. You realize how much they drink?
But it is a shithole.
Oh I get it. I have been there. They did the same thing in the USSR. It was a country full of hopeless drunks. That was one of the main reasons for seeking the new soviet man. It never occurred to them that being a grey, cold, hopeless, soul crushing communist hell hole was the reason everyone stayed drunk all of the time. Or maybe they did. They wanted cattle that would be docile and satisfied with a hovel and a bowl of gruel per day.
Y’know…reading about Benjamin Franklin’s experiences when he went to England as an ambassador the thing that struck me most was when he demanded his minder take him around in the countryside to see places he was not supposed to see he reported that there were many people living in holes in the ground. they had little or no clothing.
I also remember reading about the prison ships anchored off of various places on the coast that became so overcrowded that they began shipping them off to Australia. The limeys can be some vicious bastards toward their own people.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they just cut the common people off from medical care altogether.
Those prisoners sent to OZ were often from debtor’s prisons. They didn’t even do much anything wrong beyond that.
Read an account of a visit to one of those ships. One witness said the prisoners were emaciated and nearly nude. They died like flies and were just tossed overboard so the water around the ships was always swarming with sharks. One man walking around on the deck with a torn scrotum and one testicle hanging to his knees, the other he carried around in his hand. Hanging testicle guy was given life in prison because he stole a loaf of bread.
Have sweet dreams tonight.
Not all. There were also people convicted of petty property crimes which carried the death penalty. Judges often commuted this to transportation. And there were also Irish nationalists.
I was surprised to learn less than a year ago that France had once treated New Orleans as a prison colony. They had overflowing prisoners and a struggling colony, so they shotgun-wedded male and female prisoners and shipped ’em over. No idea how many were transported this way.
The best of the Limeys already moved to America over 200 years ago. And for that I am grateful. Can you imagine if Spain had been the primary colonizer of the US? Despite the sorry state of the modern UK, their record as colonialists (while still ridden with icky parts) beats the pants off any country I can think of.
I get sad when I read the letters and opinions of old WWII Brit vets who were lamenting the trajectory of their country even 20-30 years ago. Few survive today, but many spin in their graves.
“Can you imagine if Spain had been the primary colonizer of the US?”
No need to imagine. Tour Mexico and countries south of it.
Yup, pretty much. Thanks, Brits.
It’s a bit sad seeing where they are going now; like watching an elderly parent deteriorate slowly before inevitable death. I pray for their recovery (talking about Britain now) but I just can’t see it happening.
The best of the Limeys
The religious fanatics that tried to steal Christmas?
I’m thinking more of the great thinkers, the founding fathers.
Even the religious fanatics figured things out after they realized the Acts type commune, if forced by the local govt and not voluntary, was going to kill them all. They dropped that crap in a hurry and embraced personal property ownership, merit based advancement, etc.
The strict “no hereditary titles” rule has always helped.

I was thinking today about the best way to clear buildings in a city. Here’s what I came up with:
First, you need a light tank, like the FV101 Scorpion. Fit it with a trailer so it can transport 10 soldiers or so.
On the outskirts of the city, the infantry dismount and unhitch the trailer. The infantry use the tank as cover and protect it from guys with RPGs. The tank’s armor needs to be thick enough to stop 50 cal. This tank isn’t meant to fight other tanks or stand up to heavy stuff. It’s job is to provide cover and breach buildings.
When they need to clear a building, the tank blows a hole in the wall and the infantry throw in frag or flash bang grenades before they breach. It’s better to go through a hole in the wall because the doors and windows are the most likely places for booby traps.
A light tank uses less fuel, has greater range, is air-transportable, and doubles as a troop transport. It can go places very heavy main battle tanks can’t.
The US used a light tank called the Sheridan, but the Army cancelled it on the basis of having one tank fill all the roles- which is impossible.
That strategy only works if you don’t give a shit about infrastructure. If the buildings you’re destroying are potentially your own that changes the math a bit.
Neutron bomb
What the US did in Hue and the first go in Fallujah is similar to the above. The difference is that tanks were used very sparingly to avoid damaging buildings.
In Fallujah, they ended pulling back and blasting the city with artillery because they were taking too many losses while trying to clear buildings.
Remind self: “Do not be late with rent check if Derpotologist is my landlord.”
How big is the city and how is it laid out? I would think the denser amd more populated it is, the less likely you’ll have an armored component to your plan.
Nope…think about how IEDs are used these days. I’ve seen IEDs back in 05 that blew the turret off an M1. Now in Mosul and elsewhere, they’ve got armored VBIEDS (even ones loaded with crew served weapons or MRLs), IED “belts” made up of literally hundreds of 5 gallon claymores, etc – light tank would go up in a flash.
That’s what we’re learning from modern urban warfare. Marawi Philippines was almost a mini-version of Raqqa in terms of type of combat, etc – a direct translation from the middle east to SE Asia.
How would infantry protect against RPGs? One guy standing just inside a window with an RPG, out of view of the streets, could ruin their whole day.
And you basically just described an MRAP or MATV.
If you aren’t in a hurry, import the population of Detroit and its government.
You ever hear of the neutron bomb?

Various special forces use dune buggies to get around in the desert. The advantages include low cost, speed, range, and can be airlifted.
I think it would be good to switch from daylight patrols on roads in Humvees to off-road night patrols with dune buggies. Staying off roads reduces the IED threat and since the the Taliban don’t have a lot of night vision, they’ll have a hard time seeing anything. It reduces the chance of civilian casualties too. An innocent Afghani has very little reason to outside after midnight.
If you’re not on a road, what are you patrolling?
Probably a bigger question than just on-the-ground tactics…

Works fine for Spec Ops guys who can slip in an out with no warning or routine. Probably wouldn’t work so well for the regulars who have a specific area to cover each day. Doesn’t matter if it’s on a road or not. No armor means they have nothing to shield themselves in case some asshole takes a pot shot or a TIC, and since they’re in the same general area on a routine basis, it’s pretty easy to just hang out where you have the high ground and wait for the poor bastards in their unarmored buggies to roll by, even if you have to wait a few days. Spec Ops guys aren’t expected (usually) so they can go in lighter and faster. Where I was at, everything happened at night anyways.
Not to mention we had to dismount to do walking patrols anyways. You’re not getting a dune buggy through the shit village roads and paths we had to traverse and I wouldn’t want my ride out of there to be some pipes with an engine and wheels strapped to it after my key leader engagements. Those guys had to sit and wait while we walked through tiny dirt paths for quite a while sometimes.
And the Afghanis were out at all hours of the night doing Allah knows what. I watched two guys shovel snow into each other’s yards for quite a long time until they realized what the other was doing and got into a fistfight. This happened around 0200-0300.
So, just like Jersey?
Yeahhhh, it’s been thought of – believe me. Use a route one time and it’s potentially compromised for the future. In a lot of regions of Afghanistan, we’re screwed with “chokepoints” because the rest of the terrain is not navigable by any vehicles other than a pack-mule.
Police: 1 dead after man gives toddler gun to chase victim
My brother used to pin me down and tell my younger toddler aged brother to torture me, but this story is a whole new level.
By torture I mean pinch or pull my hair.
Now that is how you train an enforcer! Even the giant floating head would be proud.
With that said, I am woefully dissapointed. FloridaMan! this could have been you! Step it the fuck up you worthless strung out florida mammals!
I got my ballot preview today. There are lots of tax increases being proposed. not one had opposing comments submitted in time. by the republican party, the libertarian party, or any other group.
the fuck, boulder?
Boulder…. I think I found your problem.
I just expect the republicans to get someone to write a generic “we oppose increases on this tax increase.” that would take minutes.
Maybe they just cut ait and moved on. Boulder isn’t that nice a town anyway.
Fuck You, Cut Spending
Fuck You, Cut Spending
Fuck You, Cut Spending
Fuck You, Cut Spending
Fuck You, Cut Spending
I had “Fuck You, Cut Spending” pasted in a bunch of times, but I think the spam filter eated it.
Having said that, why does Boulder need tax increases? I thought the state coffers were overflowing with sweet sweet ganjabucks.
they are. so much fucking money. theres no talk of lowering it.
one’s an extension, a .05% county wide that’s about to sunset. one bill (what’s the right word here?) has the same tax, extending it. the one right under it is the same tax as a new one, covering more things. I don’t know if they’ll stack if both pass.
I was hoping one would end our fucking soda tax.
Anyone ever seen this?

I’d like to but I can’t find it anywhere.
oh boy.
when in doubt, torrent it.
his other film, “What is it” is up there.
the description
I just stopped that in mid-download. I think its better i just don’t.
instead, i’ve decided i’m going to watch this
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bag_Man
(*i was led to it via a link on Crispin Glover’s wiki entry)
it has a very interesting synopsis
This poor guy is gonna get in trouble for sending his airline off in style.
Man, that was awesome. I would be a little worried if I were a passenger though. Even if I knew the airline was shutting down, I would fear he was going out with a blaze of glory, not a sweet honorary flyby.
I guess he sent his career out in a blaze of glory, but he has a sweet vid to show to his kids/nephews/etc.
I know a retired US airline pilot who told me that his airline chose a trustworthy copilot for last flights just to prevent this sort of thing.
“As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!”
anything is a projectile if you move it fast enough.
I’ve seen wild turkeys fly basically straight up to perch in tall pine trees. Pretty impressive given how big they are .
They aren’t that big. Pluck ’em and they are 1/4 the size with feathers on. Stringy and tough too. The longer you boil ’em the tougher they get.
With all the corn and sunflower seeds my wife fed them ours might have been pretty good to eat
The wild ones around here are skinny and tough as an old shoe no matter what you do with them. As I understand it there are a half dozen subspecies in NA. We didn’t get the tasty one in LA.
Yo Gordilocks…this is all 98% tentative, but thinking about it some more – driving cross country – most likely taking most of July.
I’ve done the US cross country thing a ton of times, but this would be completely different.
1. I’d be driving into Canada via the Glacier National Park region – hitting Banff and Jasper (much like a family trip we took about 20 years ago – actually next summer would be exactly 20 years ago).
2. Thinking about hitting Edmonton and then …
3. Is it worth it for a shot up to Yellowknife – for just a day or so? Seems like it’d be the better part of a 2 day drive just to get there.
Google maps is pretty iffy – I can see roads that actually cross between areas, but they’re not being “selected” – not sure if google is unfamiliar with them (even though they’re mapped) or if it’s something else. (gravel vs paved, etc?) – speed/seasonal restrictions, etc.
Ie. Coming back from Yellowknife to head W to Alaska – is Rte 1 from Kakisa to Rte 7 to 77 to Ft Nelson ..then back up 97 to 4 via Ross River to Dawson then across into Alaska to Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau, Victoria – then I figure I can make it back to the East Coast without too much trouble ;p
I’m assuming most of those roads are navigable during the height of the summer season…but what kind of mileage am I actually getting? Any good links for driving up there? Gas tips, speed limits, cell/communication coverage, etc? My V6 Rav 4 has pretty shitty gas mileage (filling up every 280 miles or so to be safe – it’s a 16 gallon tank, but when I tank up from a nearly empty “meter” it’s only ever 12 or 13 gallons…), but up there might be safer than a rental – assuming a couple extra 5 gallon jerry cans, etc. Honestly…I need to take some time and do some real research I guess more than just looking at the map.
Would probably have at least 1 co-pilot – I’ve been wanting to do a US trip running a go-pro from the roof – particularly for some western locations like Wind River Canyon, WY and a few other NW spots – but this would be the icing.
One of my aspy traits is trying to avoid doubling back on rtes – prefer to make it a round trip – it looks like anything involving yellowknife would involve cutting back rather than continuing around but that’s pretty much expected I guess.
Yellowknife. Now that is how you name a fucking city.
Its original name was probably something closer to “Wahakapoonajerranimoeekadeek”
which means, “i pissed on my friend’s knife as a joke” in [insert whatever tribal language was local]
Yellowknife can be driven to from Edmonton. I used to live in Edmonton. Do it in the summer. Bring LOTS of bug juice. The NWT have only two sizes of mosquitoes — small enough to get through a screen door, and big enough to open the screen door. Don’t get me started about the black flies or the no-see-ums.
Yeah, seems like an easy shot. For the first time driving into Canada…might be easier to just make it to Yellowknife and then back – and head to AK on a different trip. Probably better not to try cramming too much in one trip – esp. re: gas money, etc.
Honest Trailer: Star Trek TNG
Fuck, I can’t believe that was 30 years ago.
OMG, tears (the laugh kind) are running down my cheeks.
Thanks for the memories. I was the right age for that show, even though I was old enough to roll my eyes at some of the episodes.
There were some good uns though. The Measure of a Man made a mark in my brain.
Downing five pints of cheap piss before class was a bad idea.
nonsense.
Did you bring a cooler with you so you could keep going? Drinking is not the problem, stopping is.
I noted that no NHL players knelt for the anthem today. But maybe it’s because ice skates are pointy…
#HockeySoWhite
PK Subban disagrees. But he also says “Eh?” after his rhyming dozens, so I guess that qualifies him as white.
I don’t know a lot of the details, but working with military forces in Japan has been interesting. They have a self defense force, but many consider even that to be unconstitutional. Shinzo Abe has proposed a change to their constitution to give them more leeway to build up their forces. I’ve been laying this concept over my own principles and think it makes an interesting case for us to withdraw from many places. Just for shits and giggles, I kicked off a conversation by asking what would happen if we just up and left South Korea and how much different would Japan be if we hadn’t been here to provide security all these years? You would think this was a novel concept by the reaction I received, but the discussion was still quite good. Many brought up the idea that China would swoop right in and take over. I tend to think that a lot of tensions would have calmed down by now if we left them to their own devices. I hold up Vietnam as an example.
I, for one, fully support Abe’s move to make Japan more self-sufficient this way, but it seems this is not a popular opinion amongst the Japanese so it doesn’t matter what I think. We could still do business with them and even slow roll the withdrawal to give things time to adjust, but I think it’s a good idea.
This idea is readily apparent to Glibs but the very thought is abhorrent to many people.
I think a lot of Japanese oppose expanding the role of their military merely because the black van driving ultranationalist shitheads seem to be so much in favor of it.
Probably, but I wonder how much that would actually affect their decision if we weren’t here. I imagine they wouldn’t worry so much about ultranationalist.
What are they yelling?
I think even to native Japanese it just sounds like “URGH-YAH! GHUR-KAY!”
“We miss raping Chinese and Koreans. #MakeEmperorDivineAgain”
Minus all the torture and starvation it worked out great for Vietnam. Japan’s economy is 3000 times larger but it’s all the same. Slanty eyed countries with funny food. Good example.
Please point out where I said it worked great for Vietnam? I merely use them as an example that we don’t HAVE to be there for them to figure out how to reunify.
Please tell me where I said they’re all the same?
Seeing as I’ve lived in two of these countries, worked closely with their governments and people, and visited others in the region, I’m well aware of the differences.
If you have anything useful to say, please say it, otherwise fuck off.
Woo-Hoo!! The Yankees are up 3-2 on the Astros!
Seen on the twitter earlier today:
Well, Hillary should appreciate that. She’s a lifelong Yankees fan after all.
Saw the new Jackie Chan movie, The Foriegner, earlier today. I thought it was pretty solid. Chan can still do some good action. Maybe Stallone can add him to the roster for the next Expendables film? (Speaking of, I haven’t seen any of the Expendables, are they any good?)
Going to see it this weekend. I’m a huge Jackie fan, and I got chills when I saw the trailer at the theater. It looks awesome and I want a great Jackie film. It’s been 25 years since the last one.
Thanks for the review. Stoked!
Gord Downie, the front man of Tragically Hip just died.
I’d never heard of him, but Trudeau has–and the news made him cry.

If there was any question before about whether PM Pajama Boy had turned in his man card, that’s over now.
Now the only question is whether he was ever issued a man card in the first place.
To be fair there are only like 3,000 Canadians so chances are Trudeau really was close to the dead guy who wasn’t in Triumph.
This is the nation that produces some of the most fearsome athletes in the NHL.
And Justin Trudeau.
It’s a land of . . . great diversity.
Your move, Kimmel
Breakfast at the Hi Hat Cafe in New Orleans
i never take pictures with my phone. i just found that, didn’t remember.
damn that looks good.
How was the bloody?
i never had a bad one in new orleans. they tend to be heavier on the Worcester-flavor, lighter on the spicy (you can add hot sauce or ask for horseradish on the side).
Chicken & Waffles.
That’s some serious soul food.
I love Fried Chicken and I love Waffles (well I love butter and maple syrup), but I don’t understand the combination. Honestly I had not heard of that combo until a couple years ago probably.
I immediately understood the combination when I ordered it during a hangover. Instant cure.

http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/21069553/michael-bennett-seattle-seahawks-says-job-colin-kaepernick-first-step-moving-ahead-owners
“”I think the first step to even being able to even have a conversation is making sure that Colin Kaepernick gets an opportunity to play in the NFL,” [Michael] Bennett said Wednesday. “I think before we even negotiate anything about whether we sit, whether we stand [during the national anthem], it should be a negotiation about opening up the doors for Colin Kaepernick and giving him an opportunity again, because I feel like through everything, that’s been lost.”
I’m sure the Seahawk’s would be happy to add a QB to their bench if Michael Bennett is paying their salary.
“I think that sends the wrong message to young kids and young people all across the world that your employer doesn’t see you as a human being, they see you as a piece of property, and if that’s the case, then I don’t get it.”
They see you as an employee hired to do a job. They are not your mommy asshole.
My employer sees me as a guy who can help make the company money. I see my employer as the guy who gives me money. It works pretty well.
And it doesn’t count against the salary cap.
Silly me – I thought this was a protest against police brutality and systemic racism, and shit… but they’re really just whining because their not-good-enough-for-the-NFL buddy can’t get a gig? And I thought they couldn’t get any more sympathetic.
Kap getting a gig IS fighting police brutality and systemic racism. As well as zionism, heteronormativity, patriarchy, etc. It’s all connected. If you rectify injustices at the top class strata, like this and #OscarSoWhite and actually getting a woman to be president, it sort of “trickles down,” if you will.
Because the cops who are fans of whatever team he ends up playing for will be so enraged by his constant incompetence that they’ll spend all their energy smashing up their houses on Sunday, and won’t have any left to brutalise minority suspects the rest of the week? 10-D chess, motherfuckers!
Opening the door where players demand owners give shit players big contracts is a great idea. No way that power will get abused.
Michael is handling this as well as his brother is at pass catching in Green Bay.

It’s going to be interesting when the higher education bubble pops. What’s gonna happen to all the unemployed and unemployable diversity and inclusion directors.
Bwah-hah-hah! Blues lose the challenge! Now the Blackhawks are losing “only” 4 to 2. (under 4 minutes left–I think this one is done.)
Oh great. Now the hawks will lose 5-2. Time for another drink and a channel flip to wherever American Pickers is playing.
Wow, how did she id him?

Hey look, to each their own, but I’m gonna say that facial tattoos are never a good idea for a while host of reasons.
I actually have the same tattoo. Thankful I wasn’t falsely identified.
In a waiting room listening to MSNBC. Holy shit. This is so bad. The anchor is going on about how if Donald Trump actually read books, he should consider reading the books they’re now talking about in the segment. He’s talking about how these books can help us get through these dark times, how it’s all cyclical. I don’t really follow news on TV so this is pretty wild to me.
Now they’re talking about how the Trump cabinet should use the 25th Amendment to remove him from office. Unreal.
This is worse than the damned “GEORGE W BUSH WAS SELECTED, NOT ELECTED!!” hysteria that we endured after the 2000 election.
And also is why we will have 8 years of President Trump if he lives long enough.
I just try to live my life and cheer for the occasional good judicial appointee he gets through the system.
I wonder what it is that makes the media hate trump so much. I think it’s less his policy ideas and boorish personality and more that he calls the media what they are. Lying Liars.
I think his greases sin in the eyes of the leftist media is that he is not her.
Could you imagine how disgustingly fawning the lefty media talking heads would be if we had Herself as president right now.
“Could you imagine how disgustingly fawning the lefty media talking heads would be if we had Herself as president right now?”
Dude, please. I just ate.
That’s what Huma said!
That did it! Now I have to drink an Atkins shake for replacement dinner.
You guys really don’t want to see that world line.
McCain is unfit to serve, and he should be removed immediately.
Feeling sorry for yourself? At least you’re not the subject of r/niceguys.
What makes you think I’m not?
Don’t be that (nice) guy.
Damn son- I’m not saying Harvey’s bathrobe routine was right, but pretty soon me saying “you look mighty cute in them jeans” once back in the 80s is going to come back to haunt me. Mr. T hardest hit.

Review this week: Serbian cyberpunk animation – “Technotise: Edit and I”
Best part of this flick is that it’s streaming as part of amazon prime right now – highly recommended! (pick up the DVD from the link on my video too!).
Finally – region free blu-ray/dvd release of “Mind Game” – amazing anime flick (I have the *subbed* region 2 DVD but held off on reviewing it when I started the channel because I heard this was coming out) – stunning flick – amazing animation. I’ll review it as soon as I get my copy. http://studio4c.ocnk.net/product/41
