Man, what a not-so-great Monday. Neither the 2 year old nor the almost 4 year old give a fuck about time zones or clocks. They just get up when they get up. 4:49 am today. Luckily I was asleep at 9:15 because it had already been dark for 3 hours. And screw technology. On the good side, I’ve got a pork roast in the oven that is going to be off the chain for dinner tonight.
In case nuclear fusion wasn’t a significantly unrealistic form of near future energy, meet quark fusion.
Here’s a Florida Man flagrantly violating airport security.
I think this is exactly the sort of scandal that got a British admiral hanged, and from which Voltaire’s “pour encourager les autres” was drawn. Let’s try it.
T. Rex arms get a rehabilitation.
For our Candiaish contingent.

I didn’t really get past 2. Who’s the bastard responsible for starving these girls?
Hey you’d do it to if you knew what they would do for a cracker with some ketchup on it. / Pimp Starvedemhoes
That is not ketchup on that cracker.
Really? She clearly has a little meat on her, and I think she is shapely. Certainly not thicc, but I wouldn’t throw her out of bed.
What I’m saying is, I didn’t get past 2 either, but for completely different reasons.
56k modem?
Serious question that will separate the boys form the men, how badly is #6 cheating?
Yeah she’s trying to cheat. Hands free or it’s too droopy.
Damn straight.
2-3 inch ass drop at a minimum.
Right? shes really grabbing that thing way up there, must be a disgrace irl.

#47 just before Steve Smith find her. By find, mean…
What do you think Florida man’s end goal was with that stunt?
Maybe he wanted to see if riding the luggage conveyor is as fun as it looks?
With the condition most luggage comes out of those in, I don’t really think it’s a good idea.
*Never, ever,EVER in my life have I climbed a set of stairs up to a small landing next to a conveyor belt and kicked the shit out a bag to unjam it. Ever.
*Ex-baggage handler at Logan
And I’ve totally never dropped one off the plane onto the tarmac, I mean like ever.
Ha!
Wait, we could have some fun with this thread…I’ve never seen an old English couple plead: Please sir! That’s terribly private! And have their bags searched by the TSA anyway; resulting in the appearance of a vibrator and a butt plug.
Would he be Florida Man if he had an end goal?
The end goal is always drugs and pussy.
He was going to find the plane his ex-girlfriend was leaving on with another man so he could hold a boom box over his head and win her back.
Meth?
Toy Story 2. Duh.
http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/11/05/texas-attorney-general-ken-paxton-texans-with-guns-can-help-stop-mass-shootings/
‘All I can say is in Texas at least we have the opportunity to have conceal carry. And so — there’s always the opportunity that gunman will be taken out before he has the opportunity to kill very many people.’
-Attorney General Ken Paxton
For those that weren’t raised in Texas, the Luby’s massacre helped kick off support for the CCW permit in Texas. One of the survivors was a champion target pistol shooter who followed the law and left her gun locked in her car.
Hennard reloaded at least three times before police arrived and he had a brief shootout with them.
The police will never show up fast enough to save you from a motivated shooter.
IIRC it was one of several non Leo’s shooting at Whitman that actually killed him.
Could be a non urban legend though.
Pretty sure the cop and the highway patrolman shot Whitman. The bookstore manager did go up with them, I think.
Civilians did place suppressive fire on Whitman which slowed his shooting. One even went home, retrieved his rifle and returned to the school to shoot at Whitman.
Agreed. I’ve read well vetted stories by both faculty and students — most having served in WWII or Korea who knew they were just keeping the guy’s head down.
I’ve heard cops had a few shots taken at them when they stuck their heads over trying to signal to civies on the ground that they’d taken out Whitman.
Somebody mistook the cop for a gun and feared for their life.
Anyone who is not a complete moron (leftist, because I’m not sure moron and leftist is not synonymous at this point) would prefer that if some nutcase starts shooting people, that there are people in the crowd who are carrying. Because if you’re waiting for the cops, that only happens after everyone is already dead, after the shooter runs out of ammo.
No matter how fast the cops get there.
Any motive?
beyond, “hold my beer and check this out!”?
He looked like a mad bomber…
*I based this off the camera footage alone…I profiled and am sorry not sorry*
If Rand Paul isn’t able to return to the Senate and vote for the tax cut (due to his injuries), will Ken still blame Rand for the legislation’s eventual failure?
Also, light a candle for Rand Paul’s swift recovery at your Ron Paul alter at home
Ken is busy right now showing baby otters how not to rape.
I still have a roll of Ron Paul stickers.
How many times are you going to ask this question?
Twice. I thought Ken would be on the afternoon links and could provide a response. You mad, bro?
How many times are you going to ask this question?
Caviar thinks Ted S. is salty.
Tart, not salty.
Just to add to the redundancy, I’m going to say yes and also for making heroin legal.
Ron Paul alter what?
You didn’t know that all libertarians have an altar of Rand Paul in their house? It’s right next to the Ayn Rand statue.
Sorry, Ron Paul. Rand has not yet ascended. Although it might be soon if people keep trying to off him.
Good thing you corrected that. As penance, I would suggest a orphan sacrifice to Ron
My altar is for Cthulhu.
Cthulu Paul, Ron’s secret younger son, right?
In his house at R’lyeh dead Cthulhu Paul waits dreaming of real cuts to entitlements and discretionary spending.
Non-Euclidean economics.
“Non-Euclidean economics.”
That sounds like it best describes neo-Keynesians, and would explain a lot about Krugnut’s apparent loss of sanity…
+1 Tekeli-li!
He had himself surgically modified to look like Ron.
Sorry, thought I was having an especially lucid bout of deja vu.
No. I’m just not that clever, so I sometimes recycle comments.
Hey, did you hear the one about how TOS was all gung ho about Bill Weld staying in the party?
Better yet, did you see this crazy story?
Woah- that’s crazy! First time I’ve seen this!
I saw that.
Thank god we have responsible men ready to take up the reins of power whenever the two major parties falter.
Is it weird that I like both Rand Paul and Ken? I don’t always agree with his screeds but I almost always enjoy reading them.
Yes.
Yes, totally weird. We’ll be keeping an eye on you, Tulpa.
I think Ken adds a valuable point of view to these forums.
Its okay, I’m Tulpa too.
Ken is Tulpa!
Now that there is one damn fine Shymalananesqueish ending.
“I see verbose people.”
Same here, xeno.
I like Ken’s comments too. I’m just poking fun. Although it is suspicious that he hasn’t posted since Rand was assaulted
the Navy has 210 admirals on active duty. is the admiralty bloated?
It won’t for long.
According to Wikipedia the Navy has “276 deployable combat vessels”, so that’s only 1.3 boats per admiral.
So basically we have a bunch of jumped up commodores masquerading as Admirals. Damn, that makes the amount of ‘world champions’ in professional boxing seem almost sane.
Hello Toledo, we are Jumped Up Commodores and we are here to rock you!
LIonel Richie hardest hit.
Those papers won’t push themselves you know.
The Navy floats on a sea of paper
Have you ever been to the Navy Academy? The officers live in something that looks like right out of Stepford. It looks like a pretty sweet gig, although they surely earned it with what they go through to get there.
Anyone who voluntarily joins the Navy can’t complain too much about the rum, sodomy and lash they get.
Seems more like they got a taste for it.
Did you know they have John Paul Jones’s crypt there? I saw it. I wonder what he would have to say about this? ‘Shut the fuck up you landlubber pussies!’.
“who systematically bribed sailors with sex, liquor and other temptations, according to the Navy”
Doesn’t sound that bad.
That story about corruption in the navy includes the following observations a couple of paras apart: “The Navy’s handling of the cases has been largely opaque to the public.” and that the navy’s spokesman is named Kafka.
So quark fusion is like regular fusion, but …cold?
Based on the spending for nuclear fusion research, quark fusion seems designed to cost $500B/year for 50 years to teach us neat things about anti-quarks.
Fusion energy is only 20 years away. Quark fusion energy is 50 years away.
They just need to learn how to randomly vary the magnetic field frequency in the tokamak. They could easily do that with FTL nanoprocessor units arranged into twenty-five bilateral kelilactirals with twenty of those units being slaved to the central Heisenfram terminal.
This Tokamak thing I keep hearing about. It sounds suspiciously like Tomahawk. Cultural appropriation!
Nods pretending to understand.
I’m not really a mad scientist’s grandson. I just play one on the internet.
That’s just what the Ferengi did!
Doh.
I know exactly what you mean. I went with my wife (who is a much bigger science nerd than I am) to the last CERN open weekend. Very cool getting to wander around the facility and go in to talk to the scientists. Talking to the scientists was the hard part – I have no knowledge of physics, so I was constantly whispering my questions to the wife to get a check to make sure I wouldn’t be making a complete fool out of myself…
We’ll have a man on Mars by 1980.
Fusion is the energy of the future and always will be.
No, it uses Star Trek characters.
If Quark and anit-Quark collide do they explode?
Like the negative energy inversion bombs from The Killing Star?
So quark fusion is like regular fusion, but …
Bigger ears.
Allaire brothers are coming out with a new language?
About time. Adobe has really let Cold Fusion go to shit.
i was wrong! Dad said monday, then in another text told me see you on the 7.
figuring it’s easier to have a typo of a number, i thought it was monday.
He lands tomorrow.
Don’t text and Glib at the same time.
This seems not good
This coming on the heels of Saudi Arabia’s purge over the weekend (surprisingly moderates purging reactionaries) and that suspicious-if-you’re-a-conspiracy-theorist plane crash.
*flips sign to open at DOOMS tinfoilco*
Just curious what your staffing situation looks like. Things have been slow at the J.i.MB Talent Conglomerate Adorphanarium™ and we’re frankly a bit worried about spoilage. Hard working and adorable orphans are going cheap!
That’s not even a euphemism. Slut.
Slut.
Hurtful, but not inaccurate.
Take as a compliment.
Hang in there, the market will correct itself!
if not, we could always use a good salesman in our hollow earth section.
“the Lebanese Party of the Devil”
They have more interesting party names than we do.
I heard the Devil throws the most splendid shindigs.
Lebanon and Saudi Arabia are ostensibly our allies. This seems like a sticky situation. Good thing we have a foreign policy wizard in the presidency
Damn it, Lebanon is not an ally. I was thinking Jordan. Never mind my stupid remark, war on
Saudi Arabia may be ostensibly a U.S. ally, but IMHO really should be categorized as an enemy of the U.S.
What? You mean just because they fund terrorism? Islamaphobe!
Fuck the Saudis. Even more reason to frack baby frack and drill baby drill so we can extricate ourselves from their clutches permanently.
I’d still drill baby drill Palin
Eewww…least you didn’t say drill drill baby Palin.
I think I saw that one.
^^^
Sad thing is they are trying to go nuclear too. The ME is a powder keg 1000+ years in the making.
Haven’t finished off Qatar yet and now going after Lebanon?
Internal purge. Yemen fires a ballistic missile at Riyadh that the Saudis claim had Iranian tech in it. Escalating tensions with Lebanon.
This is fine.
“In case nuclear fusion wasn’t a significantly unrealistic form of near future energy, meet quark fusion.”
As soon as I find the right beer can…
I thought step 1 was to make a bomb first and drop it on somebody? Then think about using it as an energy source.
If I find the perfect beer can, I shall bring limitless free energy and peace to the world. *goes back to carefully sorting through mountain of empty beer cans*
I thought it involves a cup of tea, to simulate Brownian motion. Or something.
Beer works and is better than tea. But no, the beer can is part of the reactor. It’s magical.
I like when DST ends. I don’t mind the dark except having to drive in it when it’s raining sideways and visibility is 10 feet like it was last night here. If it was anything other than my daughter’s birthday dinner I wouldn’t have been out in it though.
I’ll be racing to get the grass cut before it’s completely dark out.
I especially like that on 95 when I’m following and being flanked by several Semi trucks. It’s sort of like driving in a white out blizzard while being surrounded by large metal death machines.
I feel fucking exhausted. I forgot about the time change and got up at 7am. Totally heinous.
I was at work at 5AM.
Are the early mornings what keep you so chipper throughout the day?
No; it’s the bosses.
You morning people are literally from another planet. Alien species.
The only reason to get up early in the morning is to smother morning people in their sleep.
4:30AM, no alarm, early gets shit done and Beer drinking that much sooner
Like now
This guy gets it.
If you had been to church yesterday, you wouldn’t have made that mistake, heathen.
Smootches.
piaa 540 ion’s
their RF bar does nice as well, but I have not driven in any bad stuff with one of those yet.
RF
Nice.
I ran into a huge rain storm on my move out to colorado. about 11pm pulling a trailer, in rain you couldn’t see the car in front of you on the highway.
I could only see because of those. we got off the highway and made it to the hotel. there was standing water in the road just off that highway.
What kills me is getting to work in twilight, then getting out of class after dusk. Fortunately I have huge windows in each of my classes.
Hell, I leave for work at 5:45 in the dark and get home at 7:45 in the dark. I go days at a time without seeing the sun.
Speaking of T-rex:
https://www.timesofisrael.com/israeli-study-mammals-gave-up-night-life-only-after-dinosaurs-demise/
T Rex; indeed.
Speaking of nocturnal things. I keep waking up at 4-5 am. I’m usually able to get back to sleep after an hour or so. Then I started thinking about how I’m maybe just reverting to an ancient normal. Have you ever heard that hundreds of years ago, people actually had 2 periods of sleep, about 4 hours each, with a few hours awake between them, and that sleeping 8 hours straight the way most of us do now, was pretty much unheard of?
Sure, first and second sleep. Probably more healthy but you have to crash at sunset.
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/geneveith/2013/08/first-sleep-second-sleep/
Well, just think, back in those days, there probably wasn’t much to do after dark, but crash. So it makes sense. I’m sure part of the reason was maximizing precious daylight hours. But it also seems with the first and second sleep, that it’s the more natural human biorhythm. Not sure why. Maybe thousands of years ago, someone needed to be up to guard against dangerous predators in shifts. Makes sense.
As a chronic insomniac I’d give it a shot but I think it’d cut into my drinking time. I do wake up from around 0100 to to 0400 but I desperately try to sleep instead of doing something.
I’d probably just do it. It seems like wife and I do it more often all of the time now. It’s just that it’s difficult when I need to get up earlier to go visit clients a few times each week. Otherwise I’d be perfectly fine with bed sometimes between 10pm and midnight. Up again at 4am for a couple hours, then up again at 10am. This waking up at 4am every morning is driving me nuts, but apparently my body thinks it’s had enough sleep. I don’t have any problem falling asleep. But I can’t stay asleep for 8 hours.
I loved reading about this. This is my normal sleep pattern and all along I used to fight it.
Fortunately I don’t have to lunch a clock so unless I have a set appointment early.
In going to have to read up on this and learn more.
I always feel so much more rested and energetic after such a worry free sleep pattern when I don’t have to be somewhere early.
Me too. I regularly wake up, read for a couple hours and go back to sleep. I mind-fucked myself about it forever, but I’m gonna research more.
Yeah, I think it contributes a lot to stress, which contributes a lot to sickness and disease. You have to worry about sleeping 8 hours so you can get up and work a long work day. It has always been a source of stress for me. It’s less so now that I really don’t have to get up early more than 3 days a week. But I’d like for even that to go away. I actually love, my wife too, getting up after a few hours of sleep and just doing something until sleepy again, it feels natural.
Tundra and Hydra
For years I have gone to bed early planning a good night’s sleep only to wake up during the night WIDE AWAKE but knowing I had to go back to sleep so I could get up early and hit the day.
Later on my business situation allowed me to sleep late but I fought the natural pattern so I could sleep 8 and hit the floor running in the AM.
I do this sleep pattern anyway so In no longer going to fight to go back tosleep but read a few hours without guilt and then go back to sleep naturally..
I just now read that, I’ve read about it a few times in the past. But it really makes so much sense. And it is probably why there is so much stress today about sleep and so many sleep disorders. Sleep should not be stressful, as in ‘I have to sleep now’. I’ve struggled with this my entire life because my clock just cannot adjust to an 8 hour, 8 hour, 8 hour clock (work, free time, sleep) schedule.
For the past 5 years I have worked a rotating shift. 4 12 hour shifts on days one week followed by 4 days off. The 4 12 hour shifts on nights the next week.
I like the schedule because I get a lot of days off. It really has fucked my sleeping patterns though. I basically sleep when I can and make do. I imagine it’s not terribly good for my long term health.
Shift work will kill some people. I couldn’t work out which time to go to the bathroom when I was on it, much less sleep.
I wish I could do 4 10s where I work. Right now we do 9 hour days and get every other friday off but those long weeks KEEL me.
I understand that you’d like the extra day off. The problem is that it’s pretty much been proven, most people are not very productive after 6 hours. I find this to be true. Typically when working, my brain will just typically shut down around 2pm and I’m just sort of costing. Then around 6-7pm, I will get a strong second wind and wind up making up for it for an hour or two. Current work schedules are not really compatible with humans. No wonder there is so much stress and disease.
While the last plant I worked at was going belly up, they cut my schedule down to forty hours a week. I worked 7am to 5 pm tuesday through Friday for the last couple months I worked there. It was great.
And I’m gonna disagree with you there hyperion. It may be proven that some people lose productivity and are ineffective after 6 hours, that doesn’t apply to everyone. I have made high stress calls and been involved in some pretty complicated shit over the years that I have done correctly well after 6 hours into my shift. Last night I correctly identified a failed 1600amp power distribution breaker, used a robot to rack it out of its MCC, replaced the failed current transformer inside it, programmed the breaker, fixed the down line short, amd had that section of the plant back running in less than hour. That was at about 5:45 this morning, 10 3/4 hours after my shift started.
I HAVE worked 16 hour days and did well under high pressure. But that’s not the norm and not an every day thing. Also, consider, not all of us are 20 something supermen any longer. I don’t think anyone can do a steady 8 hour every day at peak effectiveness at 50 something. Probably not anyone can even do it at 20 something.
I’m going to really give this a try after I retire but that’s a ways away. Actually doing this while working a 9 to 5 would be difficult.
I’m thinking about it. I was thinking that if I can go to sleep at 8pm, maybe it will work. I can typically take about 15mg of Melatonin and it will work in about 30 minutes and I’ll go to sleep. For about 4 – 6 hours. That might make my current schedule work. The bad thing is that only leaves about 2 -4 hours after work, depending on if working from home, until going to bed. Yeah, it’s tough.
Like STTNG Genesis – which character?
https://www.tor.com/2013/03/12/star-trek-the-next-generation-genesis/
Is that the one where Captain Cain murders Captain Abel for cheating at the Kobayashi Maru?
I haven’t slept 8 hours straight probably since I was a baby. I guess my “second sleep” is what I do on the weekends when I get my usual 5 or 6 hours and nap half of the rest of the day on the couch.
I was let down that this T-rex joke wasn’t used.
Hold on Hope.
Hold on Hope.
That stinks. She should have worn something more revealing. I mean, she does work for the Trump administration. Sarah Huckabee Sanders can stay in the tuxedo though. She’s good
Can someone translate this for me?
Translation: “I’m not as pretty as Hope Hicks which upsets me. Also, she works for literally Hitler, so says Teen Vogue. So, I’m pretty pissed right now. Bye”
Sounds about right to me.
Alternate: I’ll be in my bunk
I wonder how the leftist media are going to explain how utterly horrifying this is?
Easy – Trump admin embarrassing the US abroad.
Trump admin embarrassing the US, a broad.

I’d like to hold on hope. #thingsaRAPESQUATCHwouldsay
I LIKE HOLD DOWN HOPE

Easy, there.
Hard on (for) Hope?
I’ll accept it.
She is quite attractive. That’s reason enough for the left to hate on her.

Elsewhere in Japan, Melania wears a lovely Dior gown (color matching the children’s uniforms) when visiting a school.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5053547/Beaming-Melania-Trump-poses-Tokyo-elementary-students.html
She can make a potato sack look hawt.
Honestly, that dress doesn’t look like much more than some potato sacks dyed blue.
I guess I’ll never be a fashionista. *sigh*
I’m not either but it seems to fit in with everyone else, but not quite too much without being glaring or out of place. I’m with Tundra below. Melania is a 10. I’d say there’s lot of women out there more physically attractive but plays the part very well and not doesn’t come across as a frump, bitch, or tyrant which puts her ahead of just about every other FLOTUS.
Oh yeah. Totally agree with everything you and Tundra are saying.
My criticism is specifically for the dress. Or more accurately, “high fashion” in general. That that dress costs -I assume- $300+ is ridiculous.
She is the best since Laura Bush.
That potato sack she wore blended in perfectly without drawing attention.
But it cost way more than $300.
But we didn’t have to pay so what ?
It must be killing the proggies. She’s a 10 with grace.
Such a nice change!
First FlotusILF in my lifetime.
That’s FILF’y
What, you got something against Wookies? Racist!
You just gotta make sure she comes first… So she don’t pull your arm out of the socket
Laura Bush when she was younger was Hot
She sure as hell never made Milfdom.
Meh, she’s better looking when she’s not forced smiling so hard.
Imagine activities that would require a forced smile.
Pegging?
Playa you got this question?
You’d think a former model would be better at it, but then on the runway they always have that really stern face going on.
I think she smiles pretty naturally around children. She always seems more at ease around little kids.
She has to know that anything and everything she does will be dissected online and that as Mrs Trump, 95% of it will be very negative. Hard to look really comfy in those circumstances.
I think she’s doing a helluva job. The fact that she has made it pretty clear she has no intention of getting involved in politics (unlike Hillary and Michell-O) puts her way out front already.
How can I rank her against the all time Flotus if I can’t compare upper arms?
They look pretty good to me.
That eyeliner is racist.
I bet that title exists somewhere.
Lacist
Which one of those kids is stealth jerking it?
They’ll all be in their bunk later.
Mrs Abe seems to be cosplaying a traditional matron from another century in one of those pictures.

Reminds me of what mythical libertarian woman says about ya publishing. https://www.google.com/amp/ew.com/books/2017/11/03/romance-novelists-resistance-trump/amp/
This is….real? Life is imitating the onion now.
We whizzed right past Idiocracy.
I can’t help imagining this as some sort of BDSM porn involving Donald Trump dominating and humiliating these people and them secretly hating themselves for loving it.
I thought “happily-ever-after” was the ending of fairy tales?
Romance novels are a powerful way to cope with stress, a way to turn toward an ideal fantasy in tough times. Leah Koch, co-owner of the country’s sole romance-only bookstore The Ripped Bodice in Culver City, Calif., says, “The day after the election it was just like a non-stop sob-fest — I mean literally people would come in and just cry … In times of unrest, romance is always there for people to turn to when they need it.”
That’s one of the most pathetic fucking things I’ve ever heard. TDS will reach peak-derp levels soon, right? RIGHT?!
Just go an email from someone saying Trump won’t finish his term.
I guess this is a way to deal with TDS for some people.
Why do you respond to Nick Gillespie’s e-mails?
Is that the Reason webathon email…
I think Nick Gillespie just starts randomly e-mailing commentators about how Trump is the last 20th Century president (which he never explains what that means) and about how every insignificant thing is a ‘libertarian moment’ (there’s a new taco truck down the block- libertarian moment!). I imagine him composing these e-mails right before bed with a white t-shirt on, boxers, and, of course, a leather jacket.
I thought that at the beginning of the year. I figured he wouldn’t last to 2018, mostly because he’d get sick of it and resign. I was flagrantly wrong.
Look what he’s done to the left. It’s never ending entertainment. He can’t resign, this is too great.
I agree. Shadenfreude may motivate me to vote for him in 2020.
He might get sick of it, but if so expect a resignation to come no sooner than February 2021. I don’t think he’ll quit until he’s proven he can thoroughly rout his opponents (unless, of course, the winds change and he thinks he can’t).
How many of you guys agree with this?

“Rules are good! Rules *control* the fun!”
That just sounds like an asshole. Leaving aside point 5 as being absolutely wrong. 4 would disqualify excellent music according to this person’s thesis. 3 would likewise destroy several awesome B-sides. And what the fuck does 1 mean? What does fake music sound like?
I you checked the link you would find that the guy was mocking “rockism” No. 5 makes that cleat.
Makes that clear.
no. 1 is referring to how many Rock fans think Rock is the only authentic music.
It sounds like this.
Poppy is hitting the City of Brotherly Love next week for a live show. Who’s in?
“The composer, writer and singer or guitar player must be the same person”
Dumb. Black Sabbath is a perfect example of why this is a dumb rule. Geezer wrote the lyrics (bass); Iommi wrote the music (lead guitar); Ozzy couldn’t read, and no one cares about Bill Ward.
I originally read that as no-one cares about Bill Weld. Agree in both cases.
Black Sabbath rocks.
Black Sabbath
I was 12 when I bought that album.
Awesome song. The best version is off of the album Black Sabbath. Every time they do a best of album they always shorten the song by getting rid of the first part

“Persuasion “starts with the tenets of faith” more than with scientific data, said the Rev. Leith Anderson, president of the United States-based National Association of Evangelicals, noting that most of the world’s population has some religious affiliation. “Environmental catastrophes” like recent storms, flooding and droughts, he said, “create opportunities to persuade.””
And then they had Governor Moonbeam’s remarks. It was hosted by the Pontifical Academy, but not the Pope specifically
Whatever, you’re all the same to (((me))).

I mean, anyone who does something like that is… it’s sort of juvenile you know. And who knows, just maybe she was acting out like this at work and that had something to do with it.
The comments are delicious from Sloopy’s link this morning.
Why the fuck would you ever tell your company that? I don’t necessarily disagree with her gesture, but damn, this lady is stupid as fuck. You work for a government contractor amd Trump is notoriously petty… Displaying that level of stupid is good cause to fire her.
I’m sure she thought that signaling her ‘resistance’ was going to make her a special snowflake hero. When things don’t turn out that way in real life, these people are shocked, shocked I tell you.
Her side of the story goes….some of her friends identified he so she went to her bosses to give them a heads up that she might be internet identified as the finger.
She didn’t go to Disney Land. Yet.
Disney Land
In 2008 I was stuck on a road that I had to take to get to my employer (which also ran by the airport) several times because some big wig (Cheney was the worst offender) on their way to some fundraiser.
I completely agree with this gal’s bird. I would seethe as I was stuck on that road because they never announced the closures for the motorcades ahead of time. You would just be stuck on that stretch of road for an hour.
Fuck motorcades. I bet Almanian would have stayed at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave his entire term and not inconvenienced anyone. Let your posse bring the hookers and blow to you.
Fuck no. He’d come roaring out in his Marauder, leave the SS in the dust, find a dive bar in Maryland somewhere and drunkpost here until bar close.
He was too good for us.
RIP Almanian. Fuck Michigan!

Would anyone seriously challenge that we are currently living in the least violent period in the history of human kind? Because I’d need some serious convincing that it’s not true.
So tomorrow we pick a new Governor here in New Jersey. We are totally fucked.
I don’t think the $10,000 proposed property tax deduction will cover the damage…
Ugh, a Jersey Dem. If you own any guns I’d invest in cosmoline and a good shovel.
I plan to be gone form this place before Mr. Murphy finishes his term. I just hope his idiocy doesn’t further damage the value of the house I’ll have to sell.
Is there any price too high to pay to escape NJ?
I’d have to say no. I mean maybe moving to Somalia or Venezuela, or Antarctica… ok, not even Antarctica, but outside of that, I have to stick with no.
Just remember:
There’s a toll on the Ben Franklin bridge headed from Camden into Philadelphia.
There’s no toll going from Philadelphia back to Camden.
They all know how much New Jersey sucks.
Where you planning on going?
Any state in the union besides NJ would be a good start. At least the weather is better in CA.
New Hampshire and Pennsylvania are the top candidates right now.
The Keystone State would love to have you. Once we get rid of our commie governor things are bound to improve.
When it’s time to bury your guns, it’s time to dig them up.
My only question is whether Menendez gets convicted and expelled from the Senate before Murphy takes over as governor.
I’d laugh hard if Christie appointed himself.
Except that would mean Christie in the Senate.
*shudder*
That would be entertainment. Much better than Bob Menendez selling off your government to the highest bidder.
Hmph. My city is about to enthusiastically re-elect a Communist mayor. Yay.
For horse-racing fans, tomorrow (10pm tonight CST) is Melbourne Cup day, referred to as “the race that stops a nation”:

People smarter than me (which probably means everyone here):
Have an electrician coming out tomorrow. Want to have them repair 4 lighting fixtures that aren’t working and install a new sprinkler control box (all the electrical work already there, just the box itself is busted). About how much should this cost me? Not sure where the line is to tell them to do the work or go away.
Is all the stuff in the same area and pretty accessible? Seems like a minimum charge type thing, so think 4 hours @ whatever the going rate is. I’d guess $375 or something depend on where you live.
It’s all accessible. 4 light fixtures are all upstairs (couple of them require a small ladder), sprinkler control box is obviously on the side of the house (and easily accessible)
Get bids from different companies.
Compare the companies and their bids.
Make your decision.
Going rate around here is $40/hr for an electrician with a journeyman license.
Damn! That’s pretty inexpensive for electrical work. So I guess, I’d throw in that for a small job (the min charge thing), you have to factor in his drive, that’s it’s actually a small job, etc. Essentially for a little bit of work you overpay to make it worth their time. I’d suggest a handyman if he wants most inexpensive route.
For what he’s describing I’d do it for him for a 12 pack.
I’d do the lighting fixtures for that if he buys the hardware. Hell I’d do it for free, but I do better work with a 6 pack.
Yeah, no kidding. There’s nothing to doing any of that work. No way I’d pay anyone anything for that.
So Cal is in the 90$/ hr range, I’d do it for about 250-300$
Mexicans. They’ll do it for less.
If I paid you in beer it would cost me a fortune, even for a 12 pack
True, but youre probably not afraid to wire a ballast either.
“4 lighting fixtures”
You’re going to pay for an electrician to replace electrical receptacles? You can do that yourselves for a few bucks. I mean I’m talking like less than $10 for 4. Just make sure to turn the electric off first.
Dude. I’m Jewish. I was never taught ANYTHING handy. We always paid other people to do stuff.
(my wife is actually more handy than I am, being from rural North Carolina, but she doesn’t want to touch anything electrical.)
Im jewish and I do all that kind of work myself. I think you got jewed.
Why is this place all Jews and Canadians?
and
This place being all Jews and Canadians, why am I not being paid in sandwiches made of deliciously cured meats?
The Canadians and Joos are secretly spying on we libertarians, Jesse. I was onto it early.
Oh wait… are you Canadian? I guess maybe you knew about it before I did.
I am not Canadian, but have been mistaken for one surprisingly frequently in my younger years. At one point it was just because I sounded American but had referenced reading British and German newspapers and the person I was talking to just assumed that American 20-somethings didn’t read foreign papers.
Seriously, you can watch 10 minutes of Youtube and do it yourself, it’s beyond simple. With the one important tip, like I said, shut off the electric first, at least to the area you’re working in. If it’s an older home, I’d recommend shutting it all off just because people didn’t used to mark breaker boxes.
Another note of caution: even if they’re labelled, doesn’t mean they’re labelled properly. All my breakers are labelled but nothing is correct, thanks previous homeowner.
Black and Decker series. Get their electrical book.
I started learning on my own after a cost/benefit analysis of what skill I needed to pick up next (there’s the jewish part). $400 charge for 12 pack worth of work? I’ll start with that one.
What I’d like to know is how to put back together an old bakelite socket from an antique lamp. Damnit I really fucked up when I did that. I’m fixing an old brass lamp for wifey and If anyone knows how to get a wiring diagram for one of these things, I’d really appreciate it. It’s the kind with the switch on the cord. The bakelite socket doesn’t have many parts, but it’s sort of weird. I mean this thing is fucking old. It’s the one that has the wires attached to the ‘inside’ of the socket. It screws apart about half way up the socket. Fuck me for taking that thing all the way apart. If anyone knows anything about these, I can post some pictures.
post some pictures or email them to me at my handle with a k in front of it at gmail. I fix electrical shit for a living. shouldn’t be too complicated.
This, watch a few YouTubes or Instructables on similar projects and do it yourself, just be sure to turn off the juice when working, and then don’t lie awake at night wondering if one of the connections you made might be loose and arcing and starting a fire and burning down your house, don’t do that.
Yeah, that’s why I’m paying a professional to do it.
I wouldn’t recommend you messing with the box or especially anything outside to the main. But you can totally put in a new receptacle yourself. Anyone can do it. When you watch a Youtube video of it, you’ll understand why we’re saying it’s so easy. If it was any easier, it’d do it itself.
That’s what i figured, but the other Hyp is right, swapping out a fixture or a switch or a receptacle is child’s play. You should give a few How-to-videos a look, it don’t cost nothing and you might be surprised at what you are capable of. /Tony Robbins
Just a little more Tony
^this.
I’ve changed probably 10 or-so of them in my house, they’re really trivial to do once you’ve got it figured out, which isn’t hard. I’d never worked with electrical before that, and my house hasn’t burned down since. I even fixed something that was wrong with the house- they had a light that was attached to two switches, but they wired it wrong so you had to have *both* switches on the “on” position, instead of being able to toggle the light from either switch.
I’ve done hundreds of them, but it was just as easy the first time I did it.
I rewired a house I bought that was built in the 1860s. I figure it was probably first wired for electric in the 1880-1900 period. The wiring type is called knob & tube. I had a friend who was a pro, help me with that. There were some old fuse boxes down in the basement that were ancient and that would blow fuses all of the time, because the hack who owned the house before me had rigged up some very dangerous wiring to provide extra receptacles. It’s a wonder the place didn’t burn down. That was fun. Of course we replaced all the old fuse boxes with a breaker box and redid everything outside. He did all of that of course as a licensed electrician. But I learned a lot from that. But going back to the original topic, replacing boxes, receptacles, and switches, easy peasy, 10 minutes of training required.
“The wiring type is called knob & tube. ”
I’ve looked that up before. A coworker is buying a house that is still wired with it. It sounds scary, but if it worked, it worked… >.>;
Hah! I’d paid the professional to change lighting fixtures any day. Receptacles (outlets) and switches I’ll do but overhead fixtures to me are a pain. Changed out the ballast in the kitchen light the other day. I’d gladly pay someone else with three arms to do that again.
I love this. Montini: Will we talk gun regulations after Texas church shooting? No
This tripe is followed by:
“No.”
Well, he got that part right.
I love how clueless these questions are.
Should there be a universal background check on each gun sale, public or private
Dude bought a gun after background check, just lied on the form (perish the thought).
Should certain weapons be banned? Should we restrict the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines?
How would either of these have helped?
Should we prohibit internet sales of guns and ammunition?
Internet gun sales require the shipment of the gun to a FFL dealer, so nice try idiot.
Well, if we catch you lying on the form, NO GUNS FOR YOU. Boom.
We should also prohibit those dishonorably discharged from the military from owning guns. Totally would have stopped this guy cold.
Well, guns kill tens of people. Political power kills tens of millions. Give up or heavily restrict the weapon you wield against the people, and maybe the people will at least hear out your arguments for restricting the weapons they would use to protect themselves from you. Or don’t, and stop whining.

One of the more-amusing aspects of Patrick O’Brien’s “Master + Commander” series was the perpetual internal scandals within the Royal Navy of the 18th-early 19th century. The way they characterized the nature of ‘remote-port dockyard thievery’… was that it was a ripoff business going back 100s of years.
Basically if you were a royal navy vessel trying to refit in Sri Lanka, or whatever, a complex series of bribes and personal favors would have to be done to ensure you got your shit on time, as agreed, etc. It was simply taken for granted that Captains who were spending the King’s money were to be expected to bribe the shit out of the locals to get anything done. And of course there would be kickbacks and blowjobs for all the officers. If you didn’t play the game, why, you’d find yourself hung up at dockside for weeks at a time and unable to refit, and having to answer to superiors.
the job of the purser was something like 50% accountant, 50% diplomat who knew what strings to pull and who to bribe in each port of call. It was a fascinating subculture. And one which made the whole “Fat Leonard” story instantly understandable.
And a fine series of books, Maturin was a pretty Mean dude, approaching Evil at times.
and the Broaching of the Waaksamsheid in the southern Ocean still gives me nightmares.
Which is funny because they made him such a saint in the movie
I have the set and re-read them on a regular basis. The broaching part was horrifying. I was pissed when the movie “Master and Commander” wasn’t from the book M&C. O”Brian had a fine sense of humor too- the “Cacafuego” was priceless.

My 2-year old (actually 22 months) was a trooper on the time change. Slept in until after 7 new time on Sunday. Got up with me at 6:20 this morning.
Mostly because she woke up about 4:30 on Saturday and then crashed for a nap about 9:30 Sat morning and we didnt let her take another, so she was dead tired before bed on Sat night.
No such luck for me. But, she’s adorable, so I can’t complain
My 8 year old was up and dressed for school at 6:30 (school starts at 8:45). But overall far easier to deal with the time change than when she was 2.
(I miss those days though)
The nephew (two years in a few days) has gotten totally erratic about nap time, but for some reason still zonks out pretty reliable at around nine. If I woke up from a three-hour nap at five in the evening, I wouldn’t be able to sleep that night.
Today on ‘Menadcious Duplicity’:
GOP bill projected to hike taxes for many in working class
Assuming even for one second that they are telling the truth (a stretch I know), how is this different in any way from the shit team blue has pulled over and over and over? Because team red is doing it, NOW you sound the alarm?
part of it has to be the elimination of some tax brackets.
The GOP tax plans new brackets actually hurt me. I’m gonna be pushed into the 25% bracket unless I do something to decrease my tax burden.
Those weren’t tax increases. I mean, sure, your premiums went up 200% and your deductible is now sky-high, but *technically* those aren’t tax increases.
Exactly. That was a penalty. *looks around* Right?
Uh hummm… the correct term, sir, is Penaltax!
Tim Pawlenty pioneered this. He called his cigarette tax a health impact fee and claimed that he had not violated his promise not to raise any new taxes.
I ‘wouldn’t’ assume for one second they are telling the truth.
1. People only itemize currently because they wish to minimize their tax burden. If people stop itemizing, it is because they get a better deal out of the standard deduction.
2. If people are only donating to your non-profit so they can write it off of their taxes, or if increasing the standard deduction causes them to not donate to your non-profit, then you either need to find a more worthy cause or a better donor base.
3. People buy homes because they want to, not because they can deduct mortgage payments from their taxes. I don’t get excited come tax season because I still max out my student loan interest deduction.
Can these people try some simple math? They are ‘doubling’ the standard deductions. Most people will not need to itemize with that, unless they are business owners. And the business rate is being seriously lowered.
Math is hard. That’s why journos majored in English and minored in ________ studies.
I thought I read they were doubling the deduction from ~6K to ~12K, but getting rid of the ~4K exemption. So it’s only a ~2K increase in the standard deduction.
That’s right. The GOP is loudly doubling the standard reduction while quietly eliminating the benefit for doing so.
When i read headlines like this, I hear Tony Montana’s voice saying, “OK, you want to go to war? We go to war“
because that’s the sort of stuff they think are ‘big weapons’. calling each other racists and sexist. she’s saving the ‘racist’ in case she needs to go nuclear.
“Gentlemen, let’s just put our dicks out on the table and see who’s got the bigger one, because I know mine is bigger than all of yours.”

Local journalism prof tries to defend the idea that journalism is a profession and that it is very important.
She does pretty good for a while, but then she writes this:
Yes, yes. If it wasn’t for the journalists, the Secret Donny J Trump Nazi Brigade would be running rampant.
Journalism was an important thing… until 2009, when they all fell in line behind Obama and actual journalism went out the window (to the point where anyone who even questioned the status quo, like Jake Tapper, was actually considered to be good)
Walter Cronkite, Tet Offensive.
Walter Duranty, Soviet famines.
The lying press is nothing new. At least in the era of Yellow Journalism the mask of impartiality was discarded and you knew who was in what tank.
This is so funny that I nearly peed my pants, but yes, there’s new complaints from the Democratic Party about how the RUSSKIES may have planted bots to influence the VA Governor’s race. I really don’t think that they can possibly lose this race, and I have money betting on the Dems to pull it off, but can they win when they are this insane? I still have a lingering question in my head from time to time…
Dems should’ve ran away with that election. Northam may have run a worse campaign than Hillary did. And that’s not counting that stupid ad (which I still can’t believe that Northam’s campaign was dumb enough to approve).
They’ll probably win by the skin of their teeth, but if they lose it’ll be the Martha Coakley moment of my time.
Northam isn’t quite the vile human being that Coakley is, even with the ad.
Can’t wait to see all the “HUGE DEFEAT FOR TRUMP!” caterwauling if Northam wins.
I can only imagine the chaos and maybe riots in Northern Virginia if Gillespie actually pulls off an upset. It would turn off even more average people from ever voting Democratic again.
Can’t wait to see all the “HUGE DEFEAT FOR TRUMP!” caterwauling if Northam wins.
Nothing says “huge defeat” for Republicans like replacing a Democrat governor with another Democrat in a state that voted for the Democrat for president.

I have no idea. People in general don’t give their real opinions very often. Didn’t you read my honne/tatemae piece? My wife doesn’t hate him.
Isn’t Trump actually popular in Japan?
Inauthentic but related, and entertaining.
That was a cop out on my part. Trump probably is a lot more popular in Japan than the polls here would indicate. Pollz are wrong, shocker. After Bush and Obama, my guess is that they, for the most part, recognize that what was happening in North Korea wasn’t sustainable. They aren’t going to come out and say they support Trump because of the way he talks, but I’d wager they’re happy with a game change. It’s one thing to have two and a half lost decades. It’s another to have missiles flying overhead. Also, TPP was not popular here, so Trump gets some props for that.

Just wanted to remind any NY glibs to vote tomorrow, especially to say “no” on the constitutional convention ballot…
God only knows what horrors we would have to face if the “yes” campaign was successful.

Yes. I’ve only seen a few yard signs with ‘vote yes’ on them, and tons of ‘vote no’, so I’m feeling pretty good, but you never know what NYC looks like, hopefully they don’t bother coming out to vote.

Any of you tech geeks have a recommendation for me in regards to purchasing a new phone?
Something with at least a 5.5 inch screen and 64 gigs of memory, at least 35-40 gigs free from pre-installed apps. Somewhere in the $500 range. The carrier doesn’t really matter since I avoid contracts and buy the phone outright from the start. Not real big on Apple products(shrugs).
Thanks in advance.
OnePlus5
I’m not a tech geek, but I have an older OnePlus and am very happy with it. Clean, reliable, good battery. Also dual SIM, which is nice.
Hm. I may have to check out what they’re doing when I upgrade again in a few years.
Yes, OnePlus5 is the best thing you can get that meets your criteria.
I don’t mind my Galaxy s7. The picture quality is great (2560×1440 resolution on 5.1″). Only 32GB internal storage, but it has an SD slot. You should be able to pick it up for under $500.
That said, I’m jealous of my brother’s Edge. 6.3″ edgeless, with slightly better specs and a bunch of nifty features and just a prettier appearance. But that’s coming in at around a thousand bucks. He had half it comped by his employer, lucky bastard.
WTF did I get Edge from? His phone is a Note 8.
My wife has an S7. The picture quality is almost unbelievable, as in I never thought I’d see a cell phone that could take pictures of that quality. I have a DSLR that I think it sometimes almost equals. Not in low light or with special lenses, but still.
I’ve been happy with my Moto Z Play. Battery lasts 2-3 days depending on usage (I can burn through it faster in places with shitty coverage or if I’m say roadtripping across the country and have the GPS running all day), spacious and allows for mSD cards.
“allows for mSD cards”
This sounds clutch. I have an older smart phone (my first ever), and it ran out of space much quicker than I would have thought, would have made my life easy if I had an mSD slot.
Also so far they’ve been good about updates. I’m on 7.1.1 with the September 2017 security patch. I’m actually surprised with how consistently they roll out security patches considering it isn’t a Nexus/Pixel device (and considering how terrible they were at updating the Moto X Pure Edition).
how terrible they were at updating the Moto X Pure Edition
STILL ARE!
I’ve had the wifi off on mine for a fucking month now because of that damn vulnerability that they haven’t patched.
My tense use was more an assumption that the MXPE was dead updates-wise.
Fair enough. The alleged Nougat update may be the last one for the phone. If I can actually install it, I may keep the phone for another few months. It pisses me off that they don’t keep the phone up-to-date, there’s nothing wrong with it hardware-wise and Google writes the damn software, so all Motorola has to do is some basic QA before pushing the update out.
The was the thing I found most bizarre about their failures on the Pure Edition. Part of the point was to keep the OS mostly stock to make updates easier.
I’m interested to see what Google’s pivot in Oreo will mean for ending fragmentation, but I’m not holding out a ton of hope.
Hmm, allegedly they’ve released the new version of Android, but I’ve been checking and it says “your system software is up to date”. Maybe I have to connect it to WiFi for it work.
I need to update my router. I got the email about it while I was out of town.
*sets reminder*
My Samsung S5 takes an SD card. It’s nice to be able to expand your storage space for very little cost. I have had this same phone since early 2014. I’ve been happy with it. I have gotten it wet several times as well. They marketed it as water proof and they weren’t lying.
I’ll do some homework on your suggestions.
Thanks again.

I’m not saying it makes sense, just that crazy fuckers can rationalize all kinds of shit.
People always want to pin point a specific reason or ideology to these things. These are people who hate everyone including themselves. They want to destroy as many lives as they can before they end theirs. Yeah, they may have some specific enemies they can take out along the way, or they may choose their target based on some tangible factors, but they are going to kill a bunch of people regardless. If he lived somewhere else with some other wife, it would have been her mother in law or whomever and some other group of people. He’s a psychopath.
Of course he is a psychopath, nobody commits mass murder via sanity.
I just don’t think we should stop looking for other reasons, or consider them inconsequential.
But they are, take your pick- Was he breast fed too long, or not long enough, did he get buggered by his Sunday school teacher, or was he into video games, comic books, satanism or smooth jazz, did his high school crush turned lezbo and peg his sister, maybe he watched his pet dachshund crushed by a moving van. For every reason you can find there are thousands of people you had the same experience and didn’t shoot up a church. Fucker was a nut job. Too many people have bought into the ‘there has to be a reason’ trope of bad serial killer movies.
Certainly there are root causes for his hated of humanity. I’m certainly not suggesting those not be explored. But to try and attribute his committing mass murder of dozens of people to problems and/or ideologies that apply to tens of millions if not hundreds of millions of civilized people seems trite to me. Oh, he hated his mother in law or oh he’s an atheist, or hey he’s a bernie bro, so that explains why he murdered a bunch of strangers including small children even though no one else like that does those things. Now I understand. Not productive.
It does seem like society needs to accept that some people are evil, and do a better job detecting and removing them. Anyone can have a bad day, but when you have a long record of violent offenses and sociopathic behavior, there needs to be a way to deal with it. Both our recent mass shootings and the Hollywood rape crisis (#metoo BS notwithstanding) suggest that we don’t so much have a problem with very bad acts being common or widespread, so much as with very bad people being allowed to do large amounts of damage before society finally stops them.
Ideally, we’d develop a neurological test for extreme sociopathy and apply it to convicted violent or sexual criminals, to permanently put them away without any concern about attempting to rehabilitate them.
This guy’s hs classmates said he was on some sort of medication but I’m not sure what for. If it was for psychotic behavior the next question would be was it genetic or some extreme childhood environment or traumatic event that led to the behavior. There are reasons people develop disassociative psychotic disorders and yeah we need to understand that whole process better. Unfortunately it’s not something that is black and white and so predicting future behavior just doesn’t seem possible at this point. Can’t lock people up for crimes they might commit.

Democrats intend to have laser like focus on economy and jobs in 2018, and want to avoid being dragged into culture war as they continue to make retarded statements like this:
Confusion about the first amendment aside, the article doesn’t make a single statement on how well the economy is doing under Trump in large part due to his policies and pro-business rhetoric. The Democrats think Sanders style socialism and talk about equality will do the trick for them. The DNC apparatus is now under the thumb of Obama cronies and hacks who continue to push progressive stacking in their hiring.
Frankly, the reality seems to be that they can’t motivate the colored voters they need to sustain their success. 8 years of conomic malaise and an off-putting message (culture war) killed and continues to kill them with white voters. Combine that with a centralized, top down approach to winning elections and you complete the picture. In 2016, their top minds could only muster the vagina card. Basically, as poorly as the GOP has performed so far in power, the Democrats remain a complete mess of a party with no vision whatsoever.
The 2008 GOP had to overcome the stench of Bush, but still had more organization and a base that was not just energized with the crash, but able to organize itself coherently on its own. The left, led by Obama-ites and the Soros types has community organizers who just look to stir the pot aimlessly; playing on the emotions of their bipolar base. Like, literally – their activism basically hinges on people who suffer from various mental disorders.
Good post, I think you’ve about summed it up.
I think it’s sort of like the Greeks saying “Moderation in all things”.
The ancient Greeks may have been the most immoderate people in history, so, yeah, they really knew what they were talking about.
The left can’t really focus on jobs or the economy anymore–because that isn’t what they care about. It’s all culture war all the time. There’s no Midwestern voice in the Democratic Party anymore. It’s radical environmentalists, BLM, feminists, LGBTQI+ activists, and illegal alien interests. Those are the voices that make up the Democratic Party. Why should any of those groups care about jobs or the economy?
Maybe I should amend that. When they say they care about the economy, they mean that women should be paid the same as men. They mean that people shouldn’t be allowed to discriminate against LGBTQI+ as employees or customers. They meant hat illegal aliens shouldn’t be deported. That’s what they’re talking about when they talk about “the economy”. It’s still SJW stuff all the way down.
“Why should any of those groups care about jobs or the economy?”
They claim to, but their answer is communism. That’s not a viable platform, hasn’t been in a really long time, like never. And calling it progressive doesn’t change that.
They don’t care about the culture war either, they care about having power over other people, and the culture war is the excuse, same safety or the environment is used to give them power over the economy, and so on. They don’t care about the meaning of words, they just see them as a set of security-breaking tools, like lockpicks or zero-day exploits, that lets them break down people’s defenses.
Well done Sir!

“Stephen Hawking: AI Will Transform or Destroy Society”
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/11/06/stephen-hawking-ai-could-be-worst-event-in-civilization.html
This stuff used to be limited to late night dorm room discussions, usually centering on the space elevator, time travel, objectivism, the best Rush album, and the downside of always choosing “magic missile” as your first spell.
If politicians talked about this shit in a debate, we’d laugh them off the stage and out of the election. Nothing a gold bug, conspiracy nut is as wacky as “Skynet is real”.
It’s not hard to understand why average people think elitists and silicon valley types are completely unhinged. They make Donald Trump seem perfectly sane to normal people.
As far as Musk goes, he hasn’t lost him mind at all. He’s just another crony sleaze. He just wants to keep them crony bucks rolling in. What he’s effectively saying is that, AI is dangerous, so you have to limit it to only be trusted to certain people who are working hand in hand with the government to ensure our safety and that would of course, be me.
Now Hawking on otoh, he may well be losing his mind, he has a deteriorating medical condition.
Musk says AI is going to cause a world war?
I once worked in a mental hospital. I’ve seen people locked up for less.
Musk says humanity needs to merge with machines to stay relevant?
Can you imagine what would happen if Donald Trump said that?
Bill Gates says that robots should pay income tax?
Meanwhile, Zuckerberg says Musk’s doomsday predictions are “irresponsible”.
https://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/24/mark-zuckerberg-elon-musks-doomsday-ai-predictions-are-irresponsible.html
Not ridiculous but “irresponsible”.
These people are nauseating.
Well, again, Musk doesn’t believe any of that. And it’s not being said to convince you. It’s being said to convince the unwashed sheeples and their not so intelligent representatives in Congress. There really is nothing the aforementioned love more than a new scariest ever boogeyman.
the best Rush album
I loled.
I vote for the one Geddy doesn’t sing on.
What the fuck is wrong with you?
Take off!
Look, I really really want to like Rush. They have some instrumental tracks that are great! Then they have tracks with Geddy doing that thing that sounds like two feral cats mating on a chalk board.
Higher pitched voices were definitely a thing back in the ’70s.
Geddy Lee was a notable example, but he was hardly alone.
And being a first tenor doesn’t take away from the excellence of the music, the composition, etc.
And not every song was like that.
“Working Man” from 1974 isn’t like that.
He used that high pitched voice for effect. Listen to 2112 closely sometime, with the low voice of the guy that finds the guitar. The high, shrill voice is used to depict the priesthood.
It doesn’t fit the plan!
But being able to sing high notes doesn’t take anything away from Rush’s music. In fact, it added quite a bit live to be able to sustain itself over Alex spending so much time near the bottom end of the fret board.
There were lots of bands with singers like that at the time. Robert Plant could sound like that. Triumph could sound like that. Judas Priest could sound like that. Dio could sound like that. Survivor sounded like that. “EYE of the TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIger”
Tastes have changed.
They used to use little boys in choirs and castrati to hit the high notes.
Singing high notes isn’t and shouldn’t be any more annoying than playing them on a guitar.
When people knock Geddy Lee for that, I think it’s just become a popular thing to say–like bashing Nickleback. Yeah, Nickleback sucks, but so did every other popular band I heard at the time.
P.S. If you want to knock Geddy Lee for something, how ’bout the keyboards.
Far as I’m concerned, Rush took a vacation and never came back after Moving Pictures–and it was all about Geddy Lee insisting on keyboards.
And it isn’t just that Alex Lifeson is standing over there trying to make his style of guitar mesh well with fucking keyboards, it’s also that Geddy Lee isn’t playing bass, damn it.
I was always a punk rock guy, but even I loved following Geddy Lee’s bass in the first two songs on Parallel Lines. You could let your mind wander back and forth between Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson on those tracks, and they were equally impressive. I . . . don’t feel that way when Geddy Lee is playing keyboards, and Alex Lifeson has to stop playing like Alex Lifeson in order to keep the fucking keyboards shining through.
How can you go on about high-singing frontmen of the 70’s without mentioning Bon Scott and AC/DC?
Embrace the Hamster!
You just have to imagine Geddy as a nice Canadian Wood Elf and it’s ok.
Fly by Night, no question, and no discussion will be entertained.
Caress of Steel of GTFO,
Bastille Day?
NO DISCUSSION WILL BE ENTERTAINED!!!!
OK a Statement,
Caress of Steel or GET. the.Fuck. Out.
Better?
The first one needs more respect:
Anthem
First time I heard that song, was like wow, I’d never heard anything like that before.
Okay, some discussion. I’m not a hater of their 10 plus minute multi-part mini opera rock songs, but I’m not a huge fan either (2112 being the rule proving exception) but nobody needs two 10 plus minute multi-part mini opera rock songs on one LP, thus, Bastille Day’s awesomeness noted , COS can’t be the GOAT Rush album. It’s science.
There are excellent arguments to make for Hemispheres.
There are good arguments to make for 2112.
I’m a huge fan of Permanent Waves–I don’t care what people say. It may not be their best album, but it’s my favorite in a lot of ways.
There are excellent arguments to make for Exit . . . Stage Left.
If you’re talking about some of the best songs on Exit also coming from Hemispheres, then I think that’s an excellent indication that Hemispheres is a heavy hitter on the best of list.
Here’s an example of something on both
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78D00dYOBrM
That’s one of my favorite live performances on YouTube.
I’d list them all, but someone at the Glibertarian orbiting Moon Base might have to fish it out of the spam filter.
Other best performances?
A live performance by Bo Diddly to a bunch of hippies.
Killing Joke doing “War Dance” circa 1981.
The Gun Club covering Robert Johnson’s “Preachin’ Blues”.
Black Sabbath doing “Children of the Grave” in San Bernardino in 1973.
Motorhead doing “Motorhead”
Daisy Chainsaw doing “Love Your Money”
X – “Johnny Hit and Run Pauline”
None of those are even my favorite songs by those bands. It’s just that those live performances were awesome on video.
Sometimes your favorite song doesn’t play well live. Sometimes songs you didn’t dig that much are unbelievably fantastic live.
Sometimes songs that are incredibly good live don’t translate well to video.
2112 and Caress of Steel are the best. The first one is good too. Fly by Night is good also. Bytor and the Snow Dog, damnit!
Grace Under Pressure, Signals, 2112, last good one was Power Windows.
Afterimage takes on a whole new meaning after the shitsPeart went through
Not arguing for “best” but Clockwork Angels is a very nice production. The Blu-Ray concert performance with additional strings support, etc is extremely fun too. Missed the R40 tour in DC due to travel, but I will pick up the box sets eventually.

http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/a13266971/election-2016-behind-the-scenes/
I called Jeff Flake the Sunday before the election. I said, “I have one round of questions if Hillary wins, and one if Trump wins.” And he just started laughing, saying, “Why would you bother asking the second one?”
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
The more I read about Flake the more I am glad he’s leaving. I voted for him but he seems like the kind of guy that will fuck you over for just about anything.
I found the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and lamentation of the wiminz absolutely delightful on election night. It never gets old.
I stayed up all night, it was one of the greatest moments ever. I watched CNN most of the night, just fucking awesome.
Remember when Lewandowsky couldn’t stop smiling and Van Jones looked like he was going to punch him live on the air? I will absolutely never forget that.
What I really do not understand is how all of these ‘experts’ seemed to somehow miss the fact that most of the polls were oversampling Democrats. What I had been saying for a couple of months, and the posts are there on TOS, is that it was going to be a really close race and come down to PA, but that PA would be what would put Hillary over the top. What I didn’t get is just how badly the polls were oversampling Democrats. I knew when Trump was declared winner in FL and OH and how close PA was, that he was going to win.
I should have smelled bullshit when they started claiming Arizona was a battleground state. You couldn’t go 100 feet without running into a trump sign or bumper sticker and I could count on one hand the number of hillary signs I saw.
I think I saw one bumper sticker and two Hillary signs here. In Baltimore. If you went outside Baltimore around here, in say Carrol country, there were Trump signs and stickers everywhere. Yeah, Hillary won here because 90% of the population is in Baltimore City, but it showed how unpopular she really was. In 2012 there were Obama stickers everywhere I looked.
I actually saw 4 Gary Johnson signs within a one mile radius of my house. Then, Bill Quisling – uh, Ward, had his moment endorsing evil. 3 of the signs came down very soon after.
I did see one Gary Johnson sticker here in the city. Which makes him tied with Hillary for 2016. Oh, and yeah, I did see one Trump sticker in the city. On a pickup truck, of course.
That was the best part.
Evan McMullin, Independent candidate: Our election night event was in Salt Lake City. I was drinking Diet Coke and eating hummus and olives.
WTF is wrong with people.
Doesn’t drinking caffeine land you in Mormon Hell?
Not anymore apparently. Apparently it’s only coffee and tea. They’re even selling Coke on the campus at BYU!
If I need cola mixer I use noncaffeinated Diet Coke.
I read that and thought, “And your stupid fucking ass wonders why you were so damn wrong on the election.” The few quotes from McMuffin and Johnson were pretty revealing. They were distraught with the results:
GJ wasn’t running for the libertarian party once Trump was the candidate.
Stein showed more loyalty to her party and candidacy:
Oh yeah, McMuffin, I almost forgot about the McMuffin.
These are the people who consider themselves among the intellectual elites of the country.
This one got me: “Jelani Cobb, The New Yorker: I saw the New York Times headline [that Trump had won] and I was very discomforted by it. For one, I knew that I had a child on the way.”
Considering and reality are, of course, two different things.
“Reza Aslan: My wife stayed up and I went to sleep, then she woke me up around 1 or 2 in the morning bawling and told me that it was over. My poor, sweet wife. She wanted to hug and kiss me but I went into a panic attack and couldn’t breathe.”
This is what happens when you give the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TOO MUCH POWER.
Awesome, thanks for posting.
Dead thread humping, I know.
I had opened this as a new tab hours ago but just got around to reading it. I had to save it as a PDF for future LOLs.
If the libs who thought the world was ending that night/next day re-read their own thoughts now, a year later, would they–could they–acknowledge that all the hysteria was purely in their own imaginations and emotions? Oh fuck that asshole. He’s a fucking Democrat lite neocon. When he’s says that Trump is ruining the GOP, what he really means is that Trump is endangering the good ol boy days of political royalty and the swamp might get drained.
Publicity not getting any better for Kevin Spacey

House of Cards. What Happened. Hacks. They really need to stop using these vague titles. Our Lord Irony is having too much fun.
Eh, I had zero surprise about the Weinstein ‘revelations’. I used to read Spy Magazine back in the early 90’s, and they were alluding to his behavior then.
“If it was wanted attention, it would still be inappropriate, because you’re making flirtatious comments in front of a group of 150 people; ‘Come sit on my lap, you know you want to’ — not to a gay man, but to a young, pretty-looking guy. That happened all the time.”…
Do people not understand how old queens work?
If this want in the wake of the Weinstein fiasco they would all probably be called homophobes for calling him out for his behavior. Still might happen. How can a member of a victim group victimize an oppressor?
Marvel ‘s Inhumans is a lame show. I still plan to follow it to the season finale, but I don’t expect a second season. If you’re not watching it currently, don’t waste your time.

A PUBLIC OPTION FOR FOOD
Does the food system prove that we should privatize public schools? No, it proves that free markets are a disaster…
…
Once, though, when I voiced my dubiousness about “voucherization,” a gentleman challenged me. Why, he said, did I think private schools with vouchers would be worse than public schools? We entrust other areas of life to the private sector and they work just fine. Consider, for example, grocery stores. We don’t have government-run grocery stores like we have government-run schools. And yet most people in the country seem pretty happy with their grocery stores.
…
The gentleman’s argument was a strong one. I will confess that I felt a bit stumped by it. He was right. Every week I go to the grocery store and I get relatively tasty things for relatively low prices. And so I found myself tempted by his idea that education could be provided by “learning stores” just like nutrition is provided by grocery stores.
Then I remembered that nutrition in America is a total disaster, that ⅔ of the country is obese or overweight, and that half of the country either has diabetes or is at high risk of having diabetes soon. If we start providing education like we provide nutrition, then God help the little children…
Food is actually the perfect example of a system in which the presence of a profit motive is having incredibly destructive human consequences. That’s because it introduces a terrible incentive: to sell people the products they’ll get addicted to rather than the products that are good for them.
…
For a while, I ate Raisin Bran for breakfast, and I thought I was choosing a nutritious cereal. (It has fiber! And protein!) Nope: Raisin Bran has more sugar than Lucky Charms. I’d also been proud of myself for eliminating sodas entirely. Instead, I drank Minute Maid’s “Cranberry-Apple-Raspberry Juice” with my lunch. The label has pictures of leaves and fruits, and it looks so natural, so unlike Coca-Cola. Unfortunately, it also contains 57 grams of sugar, more than root beer.
Now, you could blame me here. These products had labels (thanks only, by the way, to strict government requirements). I could have looked at them, and instead I made an assumption. But I refuse to accept all of the blame here. It was not because I am stupid that I thought Raisin Bran was healthy. It’s because the Kellogg’s company wanted me to think that. They spent a lot of time thinking about the various ways that they could leave people with the impression that Raisin Bran is good for them without resorting to outright fraud.
…
Let us imagine a public option for food. It is a state-funded restaurant called the American Free Diner (AFD). At the American Free Diner, anyone can show up and eat, and the food is free. It’s designed to be as healthy as possible while still being pretty tasty.
…
I used to to think grocery stores were a good argument against public schools. Now, I think public schools are a good argument against grocery stores. The American diet is killing us, and people are making money encouraging us to continue eating badly, tempting us with pudding barges. It’s time to introduce a public option for food. It’s time for an American Free Diner.
***
This is really something. More proof that peak derp remains elusive.
“Does the food system prove that we should privatize public schools? No, it proves that free markets are a disaster…”
I should just stop reading right there.
But of course, I didn’t.
You see, here’s the thing, the painfully obvious flaw in this thinking. Go to your local grocery store on any given day. It will be obvious that there are healthy foods and foods that are not so great for your health available. And as a person who has switched from a wishy washy healthy diet to more of a total healthy diet, I can say for sure that buying healthy foods in not more expensive than buying a lot of junk food. In fact we’ve saved money by doing it. But watch the habits of people who are obviously not high on the economic ladder and who are typically somewhere between obese and morbidly obese. If there is anything green in their carts, it’s a 2 liter bottle of Mountain Dew, wedged in between the donuts, gallon boxes of ice cream, Fruit Loops, Captain Crunch, and giant bags of Cheesey Poofs. The fact that people make unhealthy choices is not the fault of private industry or capitalism. It’s because people choose to make bad decisions. There is plenty of healthy food choices where people shop, it’s just that they don’t want it, and it’s not because it’s more expensive, because it’s not. Fuck these nanny bot shit weasels, social engineering does not work and it’s not going to magically start working tomorrow.
They conveniently omit the fact that the gov’t “food pyramid” putting bread, rice, and other starches at the bottom, then meat and dairy at the tippy top, was pushed through public schools for DECADES. The gov’t told us to cut out eggs, to substitute oleo for butter, to use canola oil instead of olive oil.
Gov’t studies taught generations terrible habits they still haven’t overcome. I changed my meal preference at Delta to diabetic meal, hoping they’d give me low carb dishes, and instead all they do is cut out fat. So I get huge bread rolls, piles of sweet fruit, pasta, salads with sugary dressing (no ranch, cuz that has FAT!!), while the guy next to me has a “regular” meal that would be way better for me.
I have tried to change my preference back to normal with Delta, but to no avail. Sigh.
I just bring my own.
I’ve been taking my lunch to work now for over a month. Salad with cheese and olive oil, some meat, couple bottles of water. -23 lbs in 6 weeks does not lie.
Is this the first time you’ve gone low carb?
Wow. Nice. I should try that.
No. I did the Atkins thing several times. It’s effective for losing weight, but not good for long term because obviously it’s too low carb and unbalanced.
I’ve also did the Zone several times, which is better long term.
I just feel what we’re doing now is not really a diet but a lifestyle. I keep researching this to try to get it better, but I feel anyone who will just eliminate all junk food and eat real food with greens, protein, and a few fruits, will do better. I also take some high quality supplements, which I may or may not need.
“Wow. Nice. I should try that.”
And without reducing my beer/whiskey at all. You might be really surprised if all you eat is salad, some meat, and a little fruit and only water besides your evening indulgence in a few beers, just how much calories you’ve cut out. I keep the portions small now as well. When you eat like that for a while, you don’t really feel hungry anymore or any need to gorge yourself. Maybe because you’re eating food with actual nutrition in it. At first I was taking these huge containers of salad and fish or chicken whatever, some fruit to work and before long I was bringing half of it home. I kept reducing it, and eventually I’m now taking about a 3rd of what I was and not feeling hungry at all.
I do have to add that I’ve started walking a lot also. Maybe only a couple of miles a day, but it’s a couple of miles a day I wasn’t walking before, because I really didn’t feel like doing it.
I have a LOT of crap I could cut out. Potatoes, rice, junk food, soda… you name it. It would obviously be a struggle but I like all of the suggested replacements so why the hell not.
Biggest challenge would be replacing my Vodka Dew addiction.
I used to bring my own lunch religiously. Going to have to go back to that. It was working. I already make (most) of my own dinners and breakfast (when I don’t skip breakfast).
It is really nice when you cook from scratch and know everything you’re getting.
Cutting out bread and pasta is tough, but I have learned to make a nice sandwich wrap from Mission brand “carb-conscious” tortillas, and sandwiches from Trader Joe’s yummy low carb “sprouted” multigrain bread.
When I must have pasta or die, I order Carba-Nada from Amazon by the case. Much better than any other low-carb pasta I’ve ever had.
Diet Margarita mix and diet tonic water are also my friends.
Yeah, I was onto that a long time ago. Low fat is not only wrong, it’s harmful. Humans need fat in their diet. What they don’t need is so much carbohydrates, especially the highly processed ones. The sad thing is that there are still highly regarded medical establishments clinging to this harmful myth.
We basically just eat real food. Most days is salads with some meat, typically chicken or fish, olive oil, and a little fruit. That’s it, and water to drink. Ok, I do drink alcohol, but no junk food or sodas. We basically threw all of that out a couple of months ago. Results are very good so far.
Amen to that.
What’s even worse is that if you pick up a jar of “low fat” anything, like mayo for example, and compare to the original, you see they’ve added sugars just to make it palatable since they made it low fat.
My diabetic husband got his A1C to normal levels through diet change alone.
Time to get back on the wagon. This thread helps remind me that it’s worth it.
Talk about a non-sequitur.
…There is so much wrong with that argument that the fact he wrote a whole article on it and it didn’t come alive and beat him to death when he was finished amazes me.
The reason people are fat is TOO MUCH FOOD. As in, we have so much more than we need that so many people are able to buy what they want (which is shit, usually) and buy it in quantities that equates to obesity. Since you can’t have too much knowledge then that little part of the analogy actually works towards the argument not against it.
Second, the fact that you chose your nutrition needs based on the fucking drawings on the box and not the nutrition label on the back shows me that you’re a fucking mouth breather and I am shocked you can figure out which shoe goes on which foot every morning.
“The reason people are fat is TOO MUCH FOOD.”
That’s pretty easy to do when you sit around all day doing nothing because you got the welfare. Then when you get so morbidly obese you can’t walk, they force Walmart to provide you with a huvaround so you can easily get to the cheesy poof aisle. And people say that government is wasteful.
And that’s setting aside the feds’ blinkered nutrition policy. Which, you know, maybe deserves to be set aside. The dumb fuckers running agitprop on behalf of their asinine nutritional recommendations can’t be any better at their jobs than any other bunch of incompetent bureaucrats.
“their asinine nutritional recommendations”
You mean the low fat idiocy? Yeah, just eat donuts all fucking day long, there’s not much fat there, that’s the ticket to prime health.
I’m also curious about how they bring up Brazil in this. There are few fat people in Brazil compared to here. But the ones you do see, the vast majority are recipients of the government’s ‘Bolsa Familia’ program. Basically what those people are doing are buying a bunch of junk food they otherwise couldn’t afford, courtesy of government. And this dickweed blames it on capitalism? What a fucking dumbass.
But the ladies are THICC.
A lot of them are. And beautiful.
“and it didn’t come alive and beat him to death”
I’d be happy to do it, just for exposing me to that massive dose of stupidity.
Yeah, you don’t see that many fatties in Venezuela. Communism FTW.
“I’m not talking about THAT socialism, I’m talking about the GOOD socialism, run by experts and taken out of the hands of Congress so they’re apolitical. You know, like the VA.”
“I almost had a coherent thought but then the commie propaganda kicked it and all was right again and I felt a glowing warm warming glow.”
Is that the feeling of one’s brain cavity slowly refilling with shit?
So…we have a perfect example of a seemingly educated leftist being confronted with reality reshaping it in their head to make it fit their narrative. And then they take the extra step of demanding policy based on that distorted version of reality.
There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms of derp most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.
Isn’t this what Obama tried in schools? And kids threw the shit in the garbage?
Both the Soviets and the Red Chinese attempted this in the early years of their revolutions. It was an unmitigated disaster. Nathan J. Robinson is one of the most evil and stupid men I have had the misfortune to read.
Not quite as dumb as the above NJR piece, but still very dumb:
https://www.currentaffairs.org/2017/11/here-comes-the-dystopia
***
I don’t know why, but private fire services disturb the hell out of me. Actually, I do know why. It’s because, more than just about anything else, they seem to hint at what a neo-feudalist dystopia might look like. The wealthy can buy firefighters and have their their homes saved, while those who can’t afford to be saved will have to watch as all of their possessions are incinerated. There will be two types of people in this world: those who can pay their way to safety, and those who will burn.
…
If wealth continues to be concentrated in a smaller and smaller group, and the vast majority of people are more and more excluded from power and left to fend for themselves, the word “feudalism” will seem less and less extreme as a descriptor.
It’s tragic that there even is such a thing as the “economics of burning to death.” But there is. And the more private fire services there are, the more your chances of having a house tomorrow will depend on whether you’ve paid off the right corporate protection racket.

Kinda hard to justify new laws when the problem may have been that the military failed to follow the ones that are already on the books.
“U.S. Military Failed to Send Texas Gunman’s Conviction Record to FBI”
—-Wall Street Journal
https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-military-failed-to-send-texas-gunmans-conviction-record-to-fbi-1510009446
This. I hope Mattis reams out the Air Farce deep and hard, in public, for this fuck-up.
Its official:
Authorities: Texas church shooter had three gunshot wounds
Oh, and please don’t change, CNN… we love you just the way you are.
CNN, ladies and gentlemen!
So, it sounds like he was wounded badly enough that his chances of escape were nil.
So, he decided to end it.
God only knows what he might have done if he’d gotten away.
Thank goodness some law abiding citizen was there to shoot him in the leg and torso.
“It was not immediately clear whether Kelley died from the self-inflicted gunshot wound or from being shot by the resident.”
They really are clueless.
Why would they write that after saying the self-inflicted gunshot wound was to the head?
I guess they want to keep the option open the hope in people’s minds that the responsible citizen who shot the mass murderer might be prosecuted?!
Is that what they’re going for?
They imagine that a jury in Texas is going to convict someone of murder for killing a mass murderer on a shooting spree?
They really are unhinged. They’re existing in a bubble of non-reality. It isn’t just about Trump. They’re completely fucking nuts.
The alternative they are trying to leave the door open for is that he shot himself in the head and then somehow managed to drive and return fire for another 2 miles before he kicked it.
I’ll let the sheer inanity of that argument sink in for a moment.
Exactly, it doesn’t make any sense–unless they think the guy that shot the mass murderer should be held responsible.
In a disarmed society, people will be prosecuted for shooting at mass murderers.
Luckily normal people aren’t buying.
Gun sales will increase. Gun free zones will decrease.
that the responsible citizen who shot the mass murderer might be prosecuted?
I get that CNN touched a lot of you people the wrong way but how did you get to here from the asinine ‘we don’t know if the leg ,chest, or head shot killed him’ statement.
For the record that was not my take on it. I just thought that the idea that the headshot was not game over for him was such an asinine thing to say.
Why are they trying to cast doubt as to who fired the kill shot?
One explanation might be that they want to see the armed citizen held legally responsible.
You think the liberals at CNN think people should be free to shoot people if they aren’t police?
In their dream utopia of an unarmed society, that’s the way it would be. If there’s a mass shooting, no one should be allowed to shoot at the mass murderer except for the police, and if anyone does shoot the mass murderer, they’ll be prosecuted.
It isn’t a leap, there, really, is it?
Isn’t that what the gun grabbers want?
If they want the hero(es) prosecuted why would it matter if his shot killed the jerk or not? , assuming they are ignoring self-defense/defense of others as justification ,shooting someone is a crime even if you don’t kill them. Is anyone at CNN calling for the vigilantes to be prosecuted? I think CNNDS might be gaining ground, may even be neck and neck with TDS.
I’m saying that’s the way they think.
I’m not saying the way they think is rational.
They don’t think of armed, law abiding citizens as “heroes”.
They think of them as “deplorables”.
There’s no doubt that guy would be prosecuted in MD. Although, I do concede that a college student at JHU killed a home invader a few years back with a sword and no charges were pressed. Might have been different if scary gun.
I keep hearing stories out of Britain where you’re flat-out not allowed to defend yourself. Period. That’s what they want here.
It’s absolutely what they want here. It’s nothing other than tyranny. the tyrants need to be put in the exact situation that they are advocating for the peasants.
CNN’s best detectives are on the case
Looks like Crowder’s got the scoop again. Maybe this guy was interviewed earlier, but this is a nice long, detailed account. Worth a listen.
Warm air shrunk the ozone hole to a record low in 2017
Researchers suggest the recent lows in Antarctic ozone hole extent, as well as the improved thickness, are evidence of natural variability, not permanent repair.
***
“The Antarctic ozone hole was exceptionally weak this year,” Paul A. Newman, chief scientist for Earth Sciences at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, reported in a news release. “This is what we would expect to see given the weather conditions in the Antarctic stratosphere.”
The ozone hole is created when solar rays catalyze manmade chemicals like chlorine and bromine. These chemical reactions destroy ozone molecules. The chemical reactions are encouraged by polar stratospheric cloud formation, but warmer air in the stratosphere in 2016 and 2017 helped limit these reactions and curtailed the growth of the ozone hole.
The lack of stratospheric cloud patterns above the Arctic is one reason why ozone depletion above the Arctic is much less severe.

“as well as the improved thickness”
Now there’s something I can get behind.
More CNN – why American’s don’t give a damn about mass shootings:
The time of reckoning is nigh!
I’m going to make a drinking game of just going through CNN gun-related stories. Every lie, I take a sip.
I may not survive it.
Gun control, the magical balm you apply and it cures what ails you. What’s in it? How does it work? Who knows! Just slather it on and we’ll be golden.
Quoting a stupid person? sure. but where is the ‘Lie’ did the dude not say that?
The guy in question was always opposed to gun control. Or at the least long before the Las Vegas shooting. It’s documented and been discussed around here. You know, it’s the sort of thing a reporter could fact check in a few seconds if they weren’t concerned purely with crafting a preconceived narrative.
I’m not a trained journalist but after an extensive ten minute DuckDuckGoing of the matter I found nothing to prove one way or another if this guy I’ve never heard of before has always been or never been or sometimes been a 2nd Amendment proponent. I’ll give you that CNN’s reporting took the guy at his word as opposed to parsing some ambiguous and contradicting tweets, but that’s a few steps from lying.
Ambiguous? Slightly. Perhaps by calling on people to contact state reps on gun control, he was just having a discussion. He could have been moderate on guns and thought local solutions were better and more democratic, even if he didn’t support them.
But they are obviously contradictory to the notion that he was a fervent supporter of the second amendment prior to this. Either that, or he just doesn’t understand the second amendment. That’s not a few steps from lying. It’s blatant bias and willful ignorance on the part of journalists who simply want the story to reinforce their narrative.
That’s the sort of thing that journalists are supposed to ask questions about. The guy writing this story doesn’t get a free pass because his colleagues refused to do their jobs when they ran their previous stories on the subject. It’s dishonest and at best half a step from lying if you want to split hairs and give these people the benefit of the doubt.
He also tweeted a fairly common NRA-ish ‘gun control means holding my piece with two hands’ or some such type sentiment. If you don’t like the tone of the CNN piece that’s fine, but I’d advise against going full “FAKE NEWS” with every hair splitting detail you find. I listen the conservative talk shows and while I agree with them for the most part, when they lose me is when they do the same shit progressives do and overreact or intentionally (in my estimation, because I think these guys are fairly smart) misrepresent the liberals position. Andrew Wilkow on SiriusXm does this all the time, he takes a stupid thing a liberal says and frames it to make it as stupid as possible and then acts as if they said that exact stupidest thing instead of just the regular kind of stupid thing they actually said. Thing is I’m with him on the stupid thing, but when you exaggerate your opponents point I lose interest in yours.
Quoting his father. That’s the closest you can come to him actually supporting the second amendment, along with the claim that he had a concealed carry permit. Now flip this situation around and pretend that this issue is abortion, and let’s ask ourselves how CNN would cover someone claiming to have strongly supported it but then having a change of heart after Kermit Gosnell. With the only previous public comments suggesting otherwise.
Said quasi/semi-celebrity would be ignored or attacked. Their story would be questioned.
And that would be more appropriate. Simply accepting this guy’s story at face value with contradictory evidence is negligent when you are a reporter.
I’ll take Brotche in the death pool.
Ha! Ha! Ha!
Oh man, the Weiner went inside today and the Daily Mail has a pic up of the teen girl who he was sexting. That is one sorry ass horndog, the chick is so damn homely it is funny.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5046571/Anthony-Weiner-goes-prison-sexting-15-year-old-girl.html
I’d imagine for a guy like Weiner, it’s more about the entertainment and idea of what he’s doing rather than the individual on the other side.
You can say that again.
We haven’t seen her naked yet, so we can’t judge. Oh, you were just looking at her face!? Are you a girl or something? Ok. Huma looks sort of sad there, she’s going to have to go down on Hillary for hours tonight… Ewww! /why there are no female libertarians.
Fuck being catbutted, you should be raped to death by STEVE SMITH and your head displayed on a pike a glibertarian HQ as a warning to others.
Meh. Is that the best you got? I ain’t even triggered.
Oh wait… you mean the Huma carpet munching thing? Heh, after what we’ve suffered from HM and SF, I don’t even feel the need to apologize. After all, it could have been another trick link to Lena Dunham naked. Lena Dunham naked on cold day!
Remember: Bill Clinton was his mentor.
(Tread carefully here, Bill…)
So, I mean…I don’t know, man, I’m just sayin’ I wouldn’t wreck my family and go to prison to send her a picture of my dong, but I guess it takes all kinds. Prior to the picture I was going to say something along the lines of Mr. Weiner ain’t exactly Brad Pitt and for a certain man of a certain age being a teenage girl adds two to three points on the attractiveness scale, but, I mean…
I guess what I’m trying to say is that I’m sure she’s a lovely person and she may be one of those chicks who don’t enter their prime until later in life, but if I were 15 I wouldn’t give her the time of day in a carnal sense. As a father, I’m deeply conflicted, because I’m pretty sure my daughter is going to be catnip to the young gents, which sometimes makes me hope she turns out…plain…but then I see the Weiner case and I think, “Well, better she attracts normal guys her own age rather than the Tony Weiners of the world.”
“she may be one of those chicks who don’t enter their prime until later in life”
You mean like 12ish?
She must be fairly close to 18 by now. I can’t imagine that she will become a great beauty in another decade. I’m sure she has a bubbly online personality though. Well, enough for Carlos Danger.

At this point, I’m not going to take gun-grabbers seriously unless they’re talking actual no-shit confiscation. That’s the only recourse they have left. Their suggestions either wouldn’t have applied, or already applied, and the bureaucrats responsible for applying them fucked up. So, if you’re still talking “common-sense,” or “background checks,” or “gun show loophole,” go pound sand. Come back to me when you’re being honest: wholesale repeal of the Second, and a massive, national crackdown on gun owners.
A gun is a lot easier to conceal than a back-alley abortion clinic, and yet we’re assured by the pro-choice crowd that abortions would still occur even if providing them is made illegal. We have decades of evidence of noncompliance with confiscation programs, despite stiff penalties for possession, and yet we’re assured that a gun ban would work better than the equally preposterous ban on illicit narcotics. Their arguments for hedge-trimming control efforts have failed wholesale, and it’s time to quit taking them seriously.
We need to end the drug war and the war on guns. Any and I mean ANY gun laws are unconstitutional, just like drug laws. It’s amazing how the sheep cry ‘if only they would have stopped him from buying a gun because gun laws!l’. No, you fucking morons, it wouldn’t have stopped him and it’s not an excuse to violate people’s constitutional rights. Shall not be infringed, you weak minded, weak people.
The drug war is the worst. There are so many 2nd and 3rd, and 4th order consequences from it that it boggles the mind that anyone could be blond enough to still support it.
Legal drugs – some people will destroy their lives, like they are now.
Illegal drugs – some people will destroy their loves with drugs, massive police state, civil asset forfeiture, violent cartels, property crime to support addicts paying way over market price for drugs, record prison populations, people whoring themselves out to support their habit, overdose deaths from erratic potency of product. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.
Total agreement, the drug war is the worst violation of human rights this country has seen since slavery.
As long as we support “real” food…apparently the secret to keeping us all fit and healthy.
real food? you say.

One word – YUM!
Well, it’s like how when they passed that law in Australia it removed all of the guns and prevented any new ones from entering the country, and now there are no guns in Australia. Sort of like how there are no homosexuals in Iran, that type of thing.
Anybody familiar with the Air National Guard? Looking to change things up a bit from active duty (this severely paraphrases all of my reasons).
Active duty “what”?
Air Force.
Do you like Fresno?
Never been, why do you ask? I’d be looking to transition to my state of residence’s air guard unit. I am inquiring with them as well. I’d be fine staying with current job but I’ve been kicking around the idea of crosstrain as well. Just looking to get some takes from people familiar with it.
If Fresno has anything to do with your life, RUN! any direction will do
Unless Fresno is required for training, I have no need to go there. Can’t be any worse than Maxwell in Montgomery. *shudders*
CA ANG is Fresno. It’s one of their biggest impediments to recruiting.
I’m not from California and will never live there again if I have a choice.
*takes notes*
So you’re saying that California is an impediment to recruiting for the CA ANG…
MOS?
MOS = AFSC = Security Forces officer.
So you could go into the Reserves or National Guard of any service except the Marines. I would shop around and see who is conveniently close to where you want to live and offering nice sign-up bonuses.
My old Army National Guard unit was armor. They took away our tanks and sent lots of people to MP school (which is when I got out). They ended up guarding a prison in Iraq, but those kinds of deployments seem to have ended.
Disclaimer: I’ve only been in the ARNG not ANG and my experience is very dated but it seemed like the ANG guys got deployed a lot more frequently but for shorter tours (like ~60 days-4 months maybe?).
I’m fine with deploying but it would be nice not to have to move every two to three years.
Did some research on it last year since it’s an option to get potential full time active service back in the NW/Mountain States (and potentially even Hawaii as an officer). Ran out of time to do the complete package since the medical folks are only on staff to check applications on drill weekends.
Are you wanting to stay in the same state or move around? Some of the positions/roles will also show up on USAjobs.gov – but your state guard page should also post all the current full-time openings to stay current – and link to the USAjobs/etc application site or give you the POC phone numbers.
I want to stay in my home state. I’ve browsed their websites and sent some emails to try and make contact with the recruiters for a start. I have a couple more years overseas, so job openings will probably change a lot. I would like to work full time for the Guard I think, either in my current capacity or see what they can offer for crosstraining.
https://www.newyorker.com/news/news-desk/harvey-weinsteins-army-of-spies
DId you guys see this? Weinstein hired former Mossad agents to infliltrate and discredit his accusers and journalists. If Weinstein did this as a Hollywood mogul imagine the steps that powerful politicians like say the Clinton’s are willing to do.
Gloria Allred’s daughter was point on all of that. I know she has a name, but Gloria Allred’s daughter, because reverse patriarchy.
Who do you think recommended these people to him? they were probably on retainer w/ the clintons
So, NYT’s and other left leaning outlets are claiming that there was no political motive for the attack on Paul. Which may very well be true, except that Paul himself is reportedly unsure of what caused the attack as reportedly hasn’t spoken to this neighbor in years. NYT’s tries to politicize it the other way – it was all caused by the crazy libertarian leanings of Paul and his disregard for neighborhood regulations. I’m more or less surprised that they actually used the term property rights repeatedly when touching on Paul’s politics.
NYT’s simply describes neighbor as a registered Democrat. Not as a self-identified socialist. The motive comes down to what neighbors are speculating about and the words of the guy’s lawyer.
I’m still confused at why the charges were so light. I’m pretty sure if I tresspassed on my neighbors property and then broke 5 of his ribs I’d be looking at a felony.
I think it was pointed out earlier that the review (and likely increase) of the charges will be on this Wednesday. I expect it to go up.
How you go back to just being neighbors again is another question…
Depends on the protective radius of the restraining order.
And if Paul wins the guy’s house along with the rest of his stuff in the lawsuit.
Pro tip: don’t go after the guy’s medical license so you can garnish.
This is another ancillary benefit I enjoy by not having any neighbors.
When is NYT going to just go ahead and get a hammer and sickle on a red background for their official logo? I mean they’ve been cheerleaders for communism for about 70 years now. Didn’t they once write some glowing puff pieces about Hitler? Would they like a public conversation about that?
So, then, what is the motive? Blaming the victim is not going to fly.
Paul was boning the dudes wife or he was mowing the lawn at 7 am on a weekend.
The latter almost makes it justifiable.
I was born and raised in Oklahoma at a time when one did NOT mow the lawn or do other noisy yardwork on a Sunday. It wasn’t a law, just a convention. It still jars me to get home from church in Minnesota and go outside to relax with a book and a drink in my hammock chair and hear 2-3 lawn mowers spark up around me. If they would get it all done at once, it would be a little more tolerable, but they do it in sequence somehow…Grrr.
Still, I’ve never jumped a neighbor and stomped his ribs, so maybe the going-to-church-first part is working.
The lawyer would have to be a complete idiot to say anything else. Which is why only complete idiots believe any public statement by a lawyer connected with a case.
that’s such a perfect NYT-style of allegation. Suggest his feelings without ever citing any actual citation that he’s violated any regulation. because it helps imply motivation for their narrative.
they’re such perfect scumbags
I don’t know how many of you Glibs are big deer hunters, but I have been itching to go this year. I have had entirely took much on my plate lately to be able to make time. A good friend of mine just sent me this pic from his hunt this evening. I’m peanut butter and jealous.

Nice buck there. I’m going to be going hog hunting in a few weeks. Hopefully we get a shot at a close one. I’m having visions of the carnitas and sausage.
