Well lookee there. You’re #1!
Yeah, but it’s the Nick Gillespie of animated firsts.
/joking
No it’s not… it’s not wearing a jacket.
I meant the first definition. Not the second. From Merriam-Webster
Nick Gillespie (adjective)
1. Of sub par quality
2. Leather jacket-clad in douchy fashion
3. An old man refusing to age gracefully
You’re just never satisfied!

How do you do, fellow Libertarians. Do you have a brief minute to talk about the Libertarian Moment? I have accompanying literature.
I hate governors going to foreign countries.
I hate governors.
Particularly on engines.
Do you want floating valves? Because that’s how you get floating valves.
Nuh uh!
/Wankel
Yes!
Ah yes, the sub-optimal compromise for those who don’t wish to experience the full glory of a gas turbine. I suppose in an ungoverned wankel you’d get crank walk and thermal/slap failure at the apex seals as the thing started to precess through its vibratory modes.
What’s a crank?
I say crank as opposed to eccentric shaft so that the uninitiated may have a point of reference. There is a common failure mode owing to the side loads in both systems.
So having an eccentric shaft is a good thing?
Asking for a friend.
What is the full glory of a gas turbine engine?
On the low end? 50k RPM. On the high end, 500k or more and sustained combustion temperatures in the range of 2500 F.

Governors? Our fucking Mayor went to China last year.
Did he come back? Because that would totally change my thinking on whether this was a good thing or a bad thing.

Jon Lovitz is awesome. I will not hear otherwise.
Yeah, that’s the ticket.
I don’t care if the story about him beating the shit out of Andy Dick is real or not! I still believe!
There is a scene in Talk Radio that’s always stuck with me. I couldn’t find it on YouTube:
Jon Lovitz: *looking at a cigarette in his hand* “Cigarette…”
Phil Hartman: “No thanks.”
Jon Lovitz: “I wasn’t talking to you. Cigarette…I’m going to smoke you.”
That was a running gag with my brother and I for years.

Hasn’t Ben and Jerry’s always been prog signalling with their flavor names and cartons?
Yeah, it’s been my understanding that prog signalling was literally just as important to the company as making ice cream was.
yes, this has been going on at least 8 years.
I thought they were prog signalling with the prices. “Not for people who understand the concept of ‘value'”.
Well, I applaud their social conscience. And I think we should follow up on their “wokeness”. Let’s start with a 30% excise tax on all sugared dairy from lily-white Vermont to finance support for the victims of institutional racism.

It is good for preventing stones, but no help in treating current ones.
Best thing to prevent stones and help pass them is drinking a lot of water. Stay thirsty, my friend.
If he stays thirsty, wouldn’t that mean he’s not drinking enough water?
Thirsty is a state of mind.
Sorry.
No ultrasound treatment options?
I asked, he said this was the better options considering the placement of the stone and the like. I’ll trust him.
At least I’m knocked out for the procedure.
Must be a big stone man.. hope you don’t have what my mom has/had, which was a genetic disorder that caused the kidneys themselves to calcify and that it is just a stone and a one and gone.
My uncle is a urologist. I remember going to his office as a kid and looking at all the different stones in jars. I’ve been terrified of them ever since. Good luck.
You are wise to be afraid. When my first one broke loose, what I originally thought was a gas pain turned into a rabid midget stabbing me in the back with a Bowie knife.
good luck man.

https://hotair.com/archives/2017/11/13/false-charges-racism-earn-one-college-libel-suit/
Hmm, based on that story, I would think you’d have trouble going after the college. Even if faculty participated, the college could just argue they did so as private citizens.
That sounds like a stretch to me. Looks quite a bit like a university organized event.
I was saying the other day to someone that our libel laws need their bars lowered a bit in order to curb some of this bullshit. If you publicly and loudly declare a store/person/organization racist and it impacts their bottom line you better have some proof or be prepared to pay damages.
Murray Rothbard disagrees: https://mises.org/library/knowledge-true-and-false
“In short, should “libel” and “slander” be illegal in the free society?
And yet, once again, how can they be? Smith has a property right to the ideas or opinions in his own head; he also has a property right to print anything he wants and disseminate it. He has a property right to say that Jones is a “thief” even if he knows it to be false, and to print and sell that statement. ”
I have no opinion on this, just passin’ on info.
I understand. But, I think Rothbard’s reasoning would also mean that fraud should be legal. If I can knowingly falsely accuse Jones of being a thief, I’m hard-pressed to say that I can’t knowingly tell Jones that I’m selling him a pound of beef when it’s a half pound of beef mixed with a half pound of puppy meat.,
Exactly. Pushing the idea that I can say anything at all I want no matter how malicious or mendacious without consequence is the single biggest detriment to libertarianism in existence.
I believe that companies should be able to sell anything they want, including nuclear waste and arsenic, but they have to be honest about what they’re selling. If they fill a bottle full of arsenic and slap a label that says ‘Sports drink’ on it they do not get first amendment protections for that.
Here’s Walter Block contradicting himself from 2014:
https://walterblock.liberty.me/a-libertarian-analysis-of-suing-for-libel/
Early on, he quotes the Rothbard piece I linked to above but then goes on to say that he, Block, can sue the NYT because what they’re saying about Block is untrue. This despite the fact that the Rothbard section he quotes is specifically about why even lies cannot be sued for libel.
I like a lot of Block but that is a convoluted piece.
Well, something isn’t illegal if you have to pay restitution for doing it, and that’s all defamation requires you to do. I’m not aware that there’s any such thing as criminal defamation in the US. So Rothbard starts with a category error on this one, at least in the US.
And sure, you have the right to lie about people. And if it causes them demonstrable economic harm (at a minimum), you have the obligation to pay damages for it.
Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from the consequences of speech.
Exactly

That’s one of the neglected traumas of child molestation; the kids who were rejected by the molester.
a great episode.
we got to meet uncle jack!
Easily in my top five. Just off the top of my head:
1. Charlie Has Cancer
2. Charlie Got Molested
3. Mac and Dennis Move to the Suburbs
4. The Gang Buys a Boat
5. Mac Bangs Dennis’ Mom (mostly for The Waitress’ gradual breakdown as Dennis is revealed for the total scumbag he is, culminating in her wrenching harangue at the end with Frank taking off his toupee and a single tear running down Charlie’s face).
But on another day The Waitress is Getting Married or King of the Rats or The Gang Gets Analyzed could knock out that last episode.
Disqualified for the lack of The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore.
RUM HAM!
My top 5 would probably be the following:
5) Dennis and Dee Go On Welfare
4) The Nightman Cometh
3) Charlie Work
2) The Gang Goes to the Jersey Shore
1) The Maureen Ponderosa Wedding Massacre
How many other shows have stayed as good as It’s Always Sunny for so long?
Does the latest season stand up? It’s still not out on Hulu.
It’s got some quality moments. One problem with recent seasons is the Gang all look too old now to be involved in these type of shenanigans, and it’s distracting.
Yes it does. Hero or Hate Crime is epic. The only one that was a real miss for me was Old Lady House: A Situation Comedy, and that was not even close to being as bad as Frank’s Brother (the only episode I don’t think I’ve watched more then 2 or 3 times).
The only part about it that got a smirk from me was the one patron mispronouncing “Sha’dynasty.”
An easier list to compile would be the episodes that really didn’t land. I like Frank’s Brother though not greatly, and I think it’s better than Lady House. Storm of the Century was a fairly big miss for me.
That’s a weak one, just a bit scattered, but I love the scene with Jackie Denardo rounding the corner while Heart plays. “Oh my God, Charlie, I might be in love with this woman–not for the right reasons, mind you.”
NYT and other like-minded groups really losing their shit over Trump’s nomination to the Federal bench.
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/11/us/brett-talley-judge-senate.html
he was a Deputy SG for Alabama. just how far afield are his quals?
much of their argument relies on the ABA’s determination that he is unqualified. supposedly the ABA would rate Obama’s noms before they were publicly announced and he would pull any that the group deemed “unqualified”.
Other judicial nominees have faced scrutiny for their lack of trial experience. In 2010, Jeff Sessions, then a senator from Alabama, asked Nancy Freudenthal, who had been nominated to Wyoming District Court by President Barack Obama, about her having never tried a case before a jury. Ms. Freudenthal was eventually approved by the Senate, 96 to 1.
Additionally, the comparative rarity of “not qualified” ratings for judicial nominees under previous administrations may have been due, at least in part, to a difference in procedure. Every president since Dwight D. Eisenhower, with the exception of George W. Bush, screened potential nominees with the American Bar Association before publicly announcing them — a tradition the Trump administration has decided to shun.
i’m guessing they’re really losing their shit b/c of his professed support for the 2A.
This is and was always the big win of Trump RE: 2A support. He seems to pick judges based on their gun friendliness. NTTAWWT!
Reason number … a lot … that I’m not a member of the ABA, even though it would be free for me.
Elena Kagan never tried a case. I don’t recall the NYT freaking out over that.
that’s different. she has a vagina.
A wise, latina vagina
That’s sotomyer
Kagan and Sotomayor are an item?
NTTAWWT
I can’t keep all those judges straight. There’s like 8 of them or something
“NYT and other like-minded groups really losing their shit over Trump’s nomination to the Federal bench.”
So, the person must be really good, no?
They’re just losing their shit. They don’t know or care why anymore.
They want to repeat that Trump is incompetent so many times that it will be common knowledge when the next election comes around. I don’t disagree with this assessment, but I sure would like to see them scrutinize the left like this instead of offering them handjobs.

Yes, while also doubling as a practice ground for missile defense systems and, if expanded, being a potential replacement for Incirlik if things go sour(er) with Turkey.
This was considered rational foreign policy that would eventually lead to peace in the Middle East during the end of the Bartlett Administration.

Ha, ha! I was just listening to the local commie radio station on the way to my parts warehouse and the Democracy Now! chick was trying to ask Moonbeam questions as he was walking somewhere in Bonn. He was telling her that he wanted to end the use of fossil fuels in California in the next two decades and that wasnt good enough for leftist idiot. She wanted teh fracking banned now (just like Maryland did!). Brown actually at one point said to her that she was just parroting leftist talking points. When Jerry is saying that that you are a lefty ejit you really have gone far off into loonball land. I shudder to think what will happen here when Newsom or Latin Newsom is elected next year.
the fact that democracy now has funding makes me sad.
what were you picking up?
Crapload of locks and some unusual keyway schlage mortise cylinder. Work is frigging non stop here. Have you started your job back in Vermont yet?

glad you’re busy.
The irony:
– Fracking has (entirely) inadvertently reduced the carbon footprint of the US more dramatically than all other ‘alternative energy’ ideas/technologies combined, and unlike those others, it did so without a single nickel of taxpayer funding: even WORSE (for the greens) = it did so while lowering costs to the average consumer.
By the simple measure of “how much benefit it has provided / per unit of cost”…. It is the single most successful “green” tech ever conceived, and is irrefutable proof that the best thing for the environment is to get the government out of trying to regulate/subsidize energy technologies, and let the market ‘fix’ its own problems.
Which is, of course, exactly why the so-called greens want to kill it. Because the best ‘green tech’ is actually making Big Petrochemical – their enemies – even richer.
What do these fake-environmentalist, fake-anticapitalists really want? They want to push dirty, expensive, and crony-tech so lefty politicians can grow powerful can handing out ‘permits’ and ‘subsidies’. Basically, as usual, the Left is the mirror image of their own invented Evil Dopplegangers.
BU MUH WATR KTCHS FIRE!!!!
no one cares about pit mining in china.
They are also against fusion research. But they fucking love science.
Indeed. There is a pretty good book called The Moral Case for Fossil Fuels that lays out a convincing set of arguments that run along the same lines.
Most likely they hold utopian fantasies of a zero-carbon energy sector. Fracking is problematic because it enables and cheapens our addiction to fossil fuels, and even though it emits less, it is an obstacle to the endgame of being carbon neutral.
Now, I don’t know how they plan to counteract the emissions of human respiration, but they have a plan, damnit, and there’s no room in it for fossil fuels.
The people that have the biggest beef with fracking tend to be members of the usual oil producing the totalitarian hellholes that the left loves to peddle. Russia, Venezuela, Iran, and so on. Not to mention that ManBearPig is losing out on good tax payer subsidies while fracking keeps energy costs low.
The Saudis actually funded a lot of the anti-fracking propaganda here.
IT’S BAD BECAUSE PROFIT YOU RIGHT EXTREMIST DENIER!
Maryland’s fracking ban is typical Maryland idiocy at its best. There’s pretty much nothing to frack anyway, and the ban is temporary. The only place you’d really see any fracking operations would be in the panhandle, which trends poor and conservative, so naturally wealthy liberals from the DC-Baltimore ‘burbs wanted to be sure they didn’t accidentally allow the market to generate jobs and infrastructure there.
“Which is, of course, exactly why the so-called greens want to kill it. Because the best ‘green tech’ is actually making Big Petrochemical – their enemies – even richer. ”
There is also the idea that you may not desire to actually solve problems, when it is the existence of those problems from which you derive power.
Let’s start by turning off all the fossil fuel machinery that pumps water into California’s cities.
She wanted teh fracking banned now (just like Maryland did!)
The glories of a veto-proof Democratic legislative majority. And I was wondering the other day why my heating bill is so high…
Well, never mind. Hogan was onboard:
With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?
Prologue part II
INT–TED’S BEDROOM–NIGHT
TED is asleep in his giant elk shaped bed with his wife. Bows and guns adorn the walls the way ordinary people have pictures of family. Instead of a white noise machine ‘FRED BEAR’ plays on a quiet loop in the background. Ted’s phone buzzes with vibration, he sleepily grabs for it and silences. The buzzing continues. Ted sleepily answers the phone.
TED
What the fuck do you want?
INSIDE MAN (ON PHONE)
Have you seen the news?
TED
What fuckin news?
INSIDE MAN
Vegas.
TED
What about it? I don’t play there this year.
INSIDE MAN
The massacre.
Ted sits up and turns on the 72” TV in his bedroom shaped like a zebra. He flips to CNN. Wolf Blitzer’s fat face fills the screen.
WOLF (ON TV)
We can only assume this right wing terrorist acted alone. But to complete the picture I will now bring in unbiased reporting from Tangerine Sky on the ground in Las Vegas.
TANGARINE
That’s right wolf, this obvious act of right wing terrorism has left 75 dead. The Republican gunman used automatic weapons to pick off victims like Donald Trump sexually assaults women, by the dozens.
WOLF
Tangerine, how do we know it was an automatic weapon?
TANGERENE
Well Wolf, an automatic weapon is any gun that fires bullets.
WOLF
That’s a good explanation.
WOLF walks over to the interactive smart board in the CNN studio.
WOLF
As you can see here using our smart technology, a bullet fired from an automatic weapon instantly kills any person any where.
Wolf swipes the board and a graphic shows exactly what he said. TED’S jaw drops as he watches the coverage.
TED
What the fuck?
INSIDE MAN
I know the whole story. I’ll be in touch with a plan.
The inside man hangs up.
TED
What the fuck?
FADE OUT.
Is the bedroom shaped like a zebra, or the TV.
This is a make-or-break the scene detail.
He needs to scratch himself when waking.
Spoiler: he never actually stops scratching.
Some might even say feverish scratching…
We need mouth breathers from Wisconsin
“Yo soy Tim Kaine”
As a mouth breather from Wisconsin, I can’t believe they actually made fun of the democrats in a way that wasn’t flattering. If SNL keeps this up maybe people will actually watch it again.
The last time SNL was funny was when Tracy Morgan was still on the show (man, that guy was on SNL for like fifteen years)
The last funny thing I remember on SNL was Eddie Murphy teaching Stevie Wonder how to do a Stevie Wonder impression and looking more like Stevie Wonder than Stevie.
I quit SNL a long time ago.
So much this..
It was even funny. So probably somebody is going to get fired.
This is just the one time every year when they make fun of Democrats, so they can dishonestly claim they “go after both sides”.
Again, it was too long and repetitive, as is the problem with most SNL sketches.
They don’t understand how to hit the premise, back it up with 4 or 5 of the best lines, and then get out before it deflates.
Monty Python got it, which is why their skits ended abruptly.
The funniest part of that was when Donna Brazile says she thought Hillary was dead.
Roger Goodell reportedly requests $50 million salary, lifetime private jet in contract talks
Please tell me Robert Kraft and Jerry Jones are on the Compensation Committee.
Can’t remember if Kraft is. Jerry Jones is definitely not. He was a non-voting member, then he got kicked off for being a dick (he says he left on his own). Arthur Blank is the head of the committee, which may be why he was laughing his ass off at the end of the Falcons blowout over Dallas yesterday.
So he thinks he should get a raise for destroying the NFL’s ratings and attendance.
I could have ruined the NFL for a lot cheaper than that!
Well, I think i kind of get it. A lot of people have been criticizing Goodell for lacking intestinal fortitude in the face of aggressive player demands and behavior. Well, with the chutzpah of demanding $50 million in the face of flagging ratings, attendance and popularity, I don’t think anyone can say Goodell lacks brass ones.
Well he SHOULD get more than the MacCaskeys.
Just walked into my hotel room in New Delhi. I have to be up and ready for work in 7 hours. FML.
Is it just like the movie Slum Dog Millionaire? Please say it is
Pretty much. Utter chaos. I have never experienced traffic like that anywhere, even at 10 pm. It’s wedding season too, so massive crowds descending onto these HUGE temporary tents blocking shit up even more.

Soon. We have generic whiteys below (with a few others tokenized in), but I’ll go looking for culturally specific titties when I’m not jet lagged to hell and gone.
Try to find a Nikki Haley one. What? Yeah, I know she’s a warmonger, but she’s the best looking secretary of state since Thomas Jefferson
My gold standard for loony-tunes traffic is Thailand. Wonder how India compares.
I would be hoping for a Freida Pinto, too.

Has the air cleared up any?
Surprised?
When Montana students were told by our higher-education administrators this spring that tuition increases might be necessary after nearly a decade of low and frozen tuition, they objected that it would be a hardship. Yet, at Montana State University, 62 percent of survey respondents approved of recreation-fee increases to “improve playing fields, climbing walls and provide more support to student clubs.” The Bozeman Daily Chronicle wrote, “MSU’s recreation fee proposal includes a study that found recreation facilities are more influential than academic programs in attracting students to enroll and keeping them in college.”
The clear expectation is that taxpayers should fork over escalating amounts to keep tuition low — so more students can enroll in college where they prioritize recreation facilities over academic programs.
Pretty good guest editorial from a Montana state legislator.
If you don’t go to college for an education, you may as well go to watch the coeds on the stairmaster.

Anybody else following the NSA implosion?
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/12/us/nsa-shadow-brokers.html
I’m thinking this has a lot to do with the presumption among the intelligence agencies that Russia is behind everything.
“with four laptops of classified material” is what you write when the NSA has no clue how much information Snowden copied.
Four laptops worth, obviously.
That’s about 23 pounds.
What if they meant volume, not weight? See. There’s just no way to tell!
Well, if you know the memory density and the mass you can put a boundary on the information at least.
If we printed off every bit of data Snowden stole, it would form a tower almost four laptops high.
“officials still do not know whether the N.S.A. is the victim of a brilliantly executed hack”
In other words we have no idea what happened so we are going with the trend of blaming Russia.
The mysterious Sub-Continent of India can’t stop the titties!

Same here, and I can’t stand Jerruh and the Cowboys.
Goodell is good for the owners’ bottom line and disastrous for people who love football.
He was good fro their bottom line. Now they are playing in half-empty stadiums and bleeding ad revenue – and Goodell has no idea how to reverse it, other than doing his best to ensure a player strike when the current contract ends.
afaik, the pats are the only team that hasn’t lost a bunch of viewership. still lost some, but when they play sunday night football, people still tune in.
I think that would be a very, very foolish move on Goodell’s or the League’s part. People don’t like Jerry Jones or the Cowboys in the least. But, tossing them out would render Jones the hero and the League the villains. Add to that every owner would be put on notice that his own franchise is now subject to termination by the League barring blind obedience and my guess is that a lot of other team owners are going to root for Jones. Add to that the League losing a lot of public goodwill when it comes to things like begging for new stadiums and you wind up with a much bigger problem than Jerry Jones.
Without flyspecking the entire bylaws, the one quoted says this:
I suppose the way this could go down is the Exec Committee tells Jerry “You have a year to sell the Cowboys, or we cancel the franchise”.
The first thing Jerry’s lawyers would do, naturally, is place orders for new Ferraris or Bugattis, because they are all going to be rich before this is done.
I can’t believe the NFL owners would actually force out a fellow owner in order to keep a fucking Commissioner, who, at the end of the day, is their errand boy, not their boss.
I can’t believe the NFL owners would actually force out a fellow owner in order to keep a fucking Commissioner, who, at the end of the day, is their errand boy, not their boss.
Exactly. This is a Rubicon no one in their right mind would ever cross. Because once you throw out one owner, each and every owner can now be removed by the league. And you effectively promote Jerry Jones from loud-mouthed jerk to national hero standing up to PC elitists.
That would also risk flushing one of the league’s most lucrative franchises down the toilet. Where would they play? Jones owns the stadium.
Owning the stadium is probably what pissed off the other owners. The rest of ’em are determined to feed at the government trough.
Except Kraft – who doesn’t bluster like Jones but I would be more afraid off. When he puts the knife in Goodell it will be through the heart.
he does hate goodell more than anyone.
Also you would think that it would dramatically lower the price at which teams are sold. Hard to get someone to pay $1B for a team if they can strip it from you.
The NBA pulled this on Donald Sterling and he wound up setting a new price record. And the Clippers weren’t even a marquee franchise.
KOCHTOPUS!!!
Normally, I would think a major donation from a libertarian billionaire toward foreign policy schools would result in a more realist and less interventionist foreign policy. But, I’m not too impressed with the foreign policy espoused by the Koch mouthpieces.
The Kochs do good things, but they’re to ‘go along to get along’ when it comes to policy
pretty sure realism and (whatever is meant by) “interventionist” are completely independent of one another.
Kissinger is often cited as a realist figure
(tho often in a derogatory way, as though ‘his version’ exemplifies the ideas in the same way James Fisk and Jay Gould might be characterized as ‘capitalists’ by people who despise them)
i doubt anyone would claim he wasn’t also an ‘interventionist’.
I still don’t think the terms ‘interventionism’ or ‘interventionist’ mean anything, fwiw; its a term invented as a fake counterpoint to ‘non-interventionism’, which is slightly better defined, but not by much.
they’re ideas defined mainly by how and when their proponents choose to make exceptions, which simply makes them realists with limiting notions of what constitutes national interests, or what they consider threats to them.
I think you’re right, theoretically. On practical terms, as things have stood for the last sixteen years, I think realism is connected with a less interventionist approach to geo-strategy. The Bush/Obama consensus struck me as best characterized by hyper-interventionism. Any situation from humanitarianism to promoting democracy to actual challenges to concrete U.S. strategic interests qualified as a legitimate reason for intervention. Realism, by imposing even basic criteria like “Does this advance our national interests?” or “Is this really worth the potential cost in blood and treasure?” at least represented a modest step back from hyper-interventionism.
I think that’s probably right… but its still using “realism” as a sort of ‘everything else’ term, rather than being specific. You have aggressive realists, defensive realists, classical realists…
‘Realism’ in this usage doesn’t really mean anything by itself: its just “not Neoconservative (Bush) or ‘Humanitarian Interventionism (Obama via Sam Power), or expansion of Neoliberal Consensus (Obama w/o Sam Power)…etc” ‘not those things’.
its just that you CAN have a hyper-interventionist realism, provided you define national interests expansively enough, and can argue convincingly that the cost of action is ‘cheaper’ than the costs of inaction.
there were some people who allied with neoconservatives, not because they believed in the core neocon ideas, but because on a very-realist basis, they agree with the argument that in the wake of the Cold War, the US was the sole superpower, and should use that opportunity to smash the fuck out of rogue states that remained a threat to our hegemony. You could call them ‘aggressive, opportunistic realists’, or something like that.
While your critique of the term “interventionism” has merit with some of its applications, this isn’t one of them. As Just Say’n used the term, its meaning is pretty clearly “less inclined towards intervention”.
Put another way, one does not have to define interventionism as a coherent set of foreign policy ideas when the term is just being used as a rating scale.
I think Gilmore’s complaint is more that Just Say’n is using the term ‘realism’ incorrectly, which has a legitimate school of thought in IR theory, and equating it with a much more broad and vague concept of ‘non-interventionism’.
^^
its also a general appeal to the idea that if libertarians are going to try and play seriously in the IR sandbox (*as it seems Chuckie Koch wants to)…. we need to start cleaning up the terminology-mess so that you can talk to people outside libertarian circles and still make sense.
YouTube comments: Where the fruit hangs so low you’ve got to dig it out of the ground
I wanted to get in on this derp-mining operation you guys have going on here.
I had no idea that rape was bad. Holy shit.
Because rape culture.
In Finland we’re doing fine without guns
They only have the sixth highest rate of gun ownership in the world, per wiki.
I think the poster might be a Swedish expat hanging out in Helsinki.
Also according to wiki, Finland’s population is 5.5M. Apparently if the highly volatile Finns had access to firearms (oh wait! they do!) they’d depopulate the country.
They tried to depopulate part of Russia. Does that count?
Never go up against a
SicilianFinn whendeath is on the lineit’s glare ice outside and you’re walking in a straight line in dark uniforms.USA! USA! USA!
and that number is low.
That’s especially impressive since the USA has such a large population. Shocker was Romania. How do they not have more guns when they manufacture the AK?
cant’ get any legally and statistics don’t cover criminals
I would imagine the AK plant has some shrinkage (unexplained loss of inventory) but that’s still not legal ownership, so mum’s the word.
Yo, P, if you know anyone that can get some of those AKs I have a business proposition for you, buddy.
Where does the US rank among countries in teaching that rape is bad? I would like us to be closer to Finland in that category instead of near the bottom, where I’m sure we are now.
We’re somewhere between Pakistan and Somalia, like we are with all other categories of happiness, standard of living, and civilization. I mean, in what other country is 5 out of 4 women raped and most people dying because no healthcare?
We had rape class in Romania in the 10th grade. We each had to rape 1 girl from each grade 9 to 12th to pass. Anal rape had extra credit
Do they also teach everybody that being passed out drunk every night is a healthy lifestyle?
i know one Fin. this is accurate.
I’m acquainted with one Finn. He visited Ohio a few years back, and it was a cold spring, 50’s and 60’s. We were wearing jackets and sweatshirts, he was walking around in T-shirts soaking it up.
The saunas offset the detrimental effects of the drinking. At least that’s what they told me when I was over there.
Or maybe they were just trying to get me drunk and naked in a sauna. I’m not sure.
So does that explain Florida Man? Don’t the heat and humidity of Florida rival a sauna?
It’s a dual edge. Sure, I can drink rubbing alcohol and only have a mild hangover, but I’ll freeze instantly anywhere north of Charleston.
VICTIM BLAMING RIGHT THERE!!!!!
Just to be fair, is there anything else to do in Finland? I mean besides salting fish and burying them in the ground for winter?
Assemble cheap furniture, maybe?
I’m going to guess that in most of Finland, you probably don’t even really have to lock your doors because of the low amount of crime. Just wait until Merkel has to send half of her 3rd world refugees up there because Germany ran out of room. Then we’ll see if anything changes.
But that post does not surprise me at all. Most Europeans seem to believe that the USA is like a Mad Max movie.
Europeans seem to believe that the USA is like a Mad Max movie
good. that will help me save time since they’ll know what to do when i ram them off the road to kill them and steal their petrol.
That’s guzzoline, dammit!
IIRC the Finns put their quota of refugees in tents and containers. They didn’t stick around long.
believe that the USA is like a Mad Max movie.
*Signals Lord Humungus*
It’s a good thing for Finland that nobody told Simo Hayha he would be better off without his guns.
He merely postponed their glorious embrace of Communism.
Who needs a gun when you have vodka?
SO looking at the reason site (man needs something to do while taking a dump) I noticed this article
https://reason.com/archives/2017/11/13/the-rights-retrograde-quest-for-a-homoge
And I am curious, beyond debates of diversity and immigration, what is the use of this belligerent and to be honest straw-man (i don’t think it is fair to say that the whole right wants an ethno state just because they want some control on immigration) like way of arguing Shikha Dalmia has? It will not convince anyone who does not think exactly like her with this style of argument, so what is the point? I mean I don’t have much hope of converting others to libertarian thought, but I try to write articles that would not automatically alienate non libertarians. And yes, a rant can be written to vent frustration on a blog, but a site like reason who wants outreach? Or is it outreach at lefties who want to laugh at the stupid evil right wingers
Something something cool kids something cocktail parties.
It will not convince anyone who does not think exactly like her with this style of argument, so what is the point?
I don’t think Dalmia has ever intended to convince anyone, and this goes back to some of her earliest work at Reason. My personal favorite was her telling Bobby Jindal that he was a Hindu Uncle Tom (Jindal is a Christian, btw). She writes for the same reason people pen “open letters” to groups of people they have no intention of understanding or actually working with: because it feels good.
There’s a reason we call her Shreeka.
Who exactly is she, anyway? Obviously she’s Indian, but what is her background with this hysterical open borders thing? Terrible writer, completely unhinged at times. I’m surprised that the NYT or CNN has not hired her yet.
Even they will only go so far with a diversity hire.
At one point, her title was “Reason Senior Analyst” which just raises all kinds of questions. What does she analyze, exactly? Does she have any relevant experience to lend credence to her analysis? And how did she get seniority?
Reason has many sins to atone for. Dalmia is the greatest of all.
NO WAY am I going over there to shit post on a Shikha article…again. Thanks Pie for the Bastiat suggestion(I think it was you…)!
If we’re going to have single payer schools then Bastiat should IMHO be taught in every high school in the country.
I didn’t learn about him until you guys.
*hangs head in public school shame*
Ha I learned about him from TOS. But yes the public schools really miss the boat on this one.
Dalmia, Richman, and Chapman are the the holy trinity of shitty libertarian article creators. If I wasn’t already libertarian(ish) the ravings of any of those three douchebags would send me running for the hills.
Richman is (used to be?) okay on matters not involving foreign policy. The problem is that he goes full retard on foreign policy so much that it’s hard to look at his other work objectively, if at all.
Richman has a favorite (((strawman))).
He alternates between Israel being the ultimate source of evil in the world, and the U.S. Although, maybe he’s added Russia to the rotation of hate-targets lately.
This.
I can only imagine how tedious he must be in person.
Sorry, but Richman and Chapman aren’t even in Dalmia’s league. Richman is a crank. Chapman is a Democratic hack. Dalmia is genuine weapons-grade stupid.
Dalmia is genuine weapons-grade stupid.
understatement of the year
Chapman doesn’t work for Reason, they just publish his articles for some reason. Richman at least has a bunch of libertarian positions, he’s just a shallow hippie moron when it comes to understanding even the basics of foreign policy. Dalmia, on the other hand, completely obliterates the site’s legitimacy because she’s the trifecta of a horrible writer, terrible at research, and generally just a horrible person with poorly thought out, hysterical positions.
Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised that if she was better known the alt-right would use her articles as proof of lower IQs in non-whites.
Dalmia is one of those writers who is so asinine that, even when I’m inclined to agree with her policy recommendations, l look at her arguments and give credence to the other side. She botches basic facts and misuses them in context to make claims unsupported by facts. In short, Ms. Dalmia shows atrociously bad reasoning skills.
She is the cake that ate the retard.
that’s exactly right. she’s such a shitty salesperson that she effectively makes me end up sympathizing with the other side. Even tho i agree with the underlying position, her arguments basically undermine themselves – usually through straw-manning the case against her so badly, then making claims intended to support her side, which turn out to be wildly misconstrued.
she’s a hot steaming pile of stupid.
Dalmia is an unrepentant, hysterical bigot who is completely incompetent at her job. At this time, you’re correct, her articles reflect far worse on the magazine than they do on her. We’re aware she’s a human garbage, that they continue to publish her is reflective of their own major failings.
Honestly, I think she’s just a token so they can scream ‘not racist’.
Photographs mainstream archaeology does not want you to see!!11!!
It wuz aliens!!!
Seriously, though, a lot of these are pretty cool, and if we don’t know how an ancient civ had the trick-nology to make some of them, so much the cooler.
I cannot explain it, and therefore it is UNEXPLAINABLE!
(But it was totally aliens.)
I love that about conspiracy theories.
The intro makes some sense, poke some holes in the simple explanation given by ______. -all well and good.
then, pivot to aliens, or (((youknowwho))), or bush.
Starting with the fist one, we do know what was in those boxes. Bulls.
Giant Stone Boxes
I saw a human interest story about some farm guy in the midwest who was showing how a single guy could move 1000 lb slabs of concrete using simple levers and a few small rocks. The story concluded with him moving a small farm building from one location to another and then lifting it onto a new foundation.
“Embattled Senate hopeful Roy Moore answered demands he step aside in the Alabama election with more defiance Monday, threatening to sue the Washington Post for publishing “fake news” and calling for his fellow Republican and chief critic Mitch McConnell to leave his post as Senate majority leader.
“I think he should step aside,” McConnell told reporters in his home state of Kentucky.
McConnell said after the allegations were published last week that Moore should quit the race if the allegations are true. However, he also said Monday in Louisville: “I believe the women.””
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/11/13/roy-moore-blasts-mcconnell-wapo-as-calls-to-leave-senate-race-grow.html
The establishment doesn’t like Moore; the accusations are just a convenient excuse.
Still, there is no excuse for this haircut:
https://twitter.com/kath_krueger/status/930153350615715841
I know nothing much about this candidate, but good for him on standing his ground. Extra points for calling out McConnell.
So out comes some story accusing this guy of doing something 40 years ago. Nothing was ever heard about it before. Right before an election. What a coincidence. McConnell is a dick and needs primaried.
“A QUEENSLAND man has died after accidentally falling through a woodchipper on a property in Gympie, north of Brisbane.
In a press conference this afternoon, Acting Inspector Paul Algie said the way the man died was “absolutely shocking”.”

Acting Inspector Algie could not yet say if the man had been using the woodchipper unsafely or incorrectly
My Spidey sense says probably yes on both counts.
Acting inspector? Paging Harvey Weinstein!
nice.
Jane’s Addiction not impressed.
From Fat Studies, An Interdisciplinary Journal of Body Weight and Society:
“This article examines the use of fat pedagogy in fashion design, a traditionally thin-centric discipline. College seniors engaged in a swimsuit design project based on Fat Fashion Pedagogy, a framework developed for the course that draws on critical feminist and narrative pedagogies. In this case, students completed self-assessments of weight bias, engaged in reflection, interacted directly with fat models, and conducted focus groups. Students experiencing the Fat Fashion Pedagogy, detailed here, evidenced less weight bias at the end of the term. Fat Fashion Pedagogy employs overarching concepts that can be applied within other disciplines, especially those that support thin-centric ideals.”

Although it looks like the author could use less word salad and more regular salad.

Students . . . evidenced less weight bias at the end of the term.
I evidenced less intelligence and rationality at the end of the interpersonal comms class I had to take because I’d learned how to answer our cultural marxist instructor.
“‘Transracial’ man born white feels like he is Filipino
TAMPA, Fla. — Riding in a flamboyant purple vehicle, Ja Du shows up to a coffee shop to open up about his new identity.
Ja Du, born a white male named Adam, now considers himself a Filipino. Turns out the purple ride he drives around in is called a Tuk Tuk, an Asian-derived vehicle used for public transit in the Philippines he says.
Ja Du is part of a small, but growing community of people who considers themselves transracial. It refers to someone born one race, but identifies with another.”

Sure, why the hell not?
Is he running for Senate?
