Wouldn’t you know it. The day I come back is a light sports day. And I know some of you just crave the updates (sarcasm!). Well, sorry for that. And sorry for missing the last three days. Its been hell on wheels work-wise. Thankfully, there are people capable of filling in for me that actually do a better job than I ever could, so consider the last three days my gift to you. But I should be in good shape to continue bringing you the morning links now. At least for a while until the auction day gets closer.
Oh yeah, speaking of those sports. The World Cup field is set after the Socceroos (hello, IFH) took out Honduras. The Honduran federation is upset about a drone flying over the field when they were practicing. The Aussies reply was “Oi, fuck off ya cunts!” And The Peruvians took out the Kiwis in the last inter-confederation play in game. Club play returns this weekend (yay!).
Only three games on the ice last night. The Blackhawks righted the ship, doubling up the Rangers 6-3. The Mighty Ducks took down Boston 4-2. And the Red Wings extinguished the Flames 8-2. Save some of those goals, guys. You might need them later this year.
And in a special shout-out score, the ATP Finals are underway. Dimitrov took down Goffin in straight sets while Thiem topped Carreno-Busta in three.
Well that’s all for sports. I told you it was a light day. So let’s stop dilly-dallying and get right into…the links!
Some rich person spent $450 million on a painting. Its even more surprising because it defied the trend in diminishing returns for older paintings. But Da Vinci is still Da Vinci and there’s not much of his floating around.
The world is about to be a better place. Crazy old fuck.
Wait a minute. Wait just a damn minute. Those idiot-asses over at Everytown for Gun Safety swear this never happens. Next, if they don’t ignore it completely, they’ll lament how it could have been someone else. Or that the “victim” could have been restrained another way or merely chased off. Well fuck them and fuck their responses to this kind of thing. Stories like this are always good.
Twitter: so brave. Well I guess I won’t go for the blue check now. Since its basically about verifying your ability to socially signal instead of verifying that you’re genuinely the person you’re representing yourself as. I wonder how much they’re planning on paying in dividends this year. Probably there same as last year.
I’m not sure how to feel about this. Should I be sad that he was robbed of 27 years? Should I be happy that he’s finally getting out? Or should I be mad that his first five stops won’t be to waste the motherfuckers who landed him in prison for 27 years and are now just going to say “fuck you” to the court consequence-free? I swear, in a just world, there wouldn’t even be such a thing as a Chicago Police Department. They are the most crooked group of assholes I have ever seen. And the politicians who run the city (and get elected on the campaign dollars of the PBA) don’t do anything about it. Meanwhile, you have people getting locked in cages because of manufactured evidence, confessions gotten after beatings and a slew of policemen beating the shit out of people without any repercussions at all. And the taxpayers keep ponying up for settlements that have now exceeded a half billion dollars for the last decade alone.
What kind of asshole does this? I mean, seriously? Its a little girl’s pony. (SFW)
How can the laboring man find time for self-culture? I still can’t believe he’s dead. And I bet a lot of you can’t believe he was in a two-man new wave band in the 80’s. Well, now you know something you (probably) didn’t.
Have a wonderful day out there, friends!
“I think the trend to sell your virginity is a form of emancipation and I am shocked about people who are against allowing a woman to sell her virginity.
“If I want to spend my first time with someone who is not my first love, that’s my decision.”
Hell, yeah.
For the record, I most certainly would. But $2M for that? Fuck off with that price tag. I guess the purchaser has one of them virgin fetishes. I don’t get it. My first time having sex (I think I was raped in a threesome! Fun!) I didn’t know what the fuck I was doing. By definition no one does. It only makes sense that virgin fetishists have either a fundamental insecurity (She won’t know I suck at this! A-HA!) or some wierd “I got to give/take this to you for the first time” thing. Maybe a religious/purity thing? Fuck that. Give me a girl who knows what she’s doing and what she likes.
And how do they know she’s a virgin? Who “tests” that? I guess the customer…What’s the refund policy?! This contract has problems of verifiability!
Intriguing.
Hey, its fine and dandy that you’re posting links to The Sun. But seriously, how could you have missed posting about the 26-year old pedo dwarf who was spared jail time because of his size?
I left that little nugget for my master.
Shit. Then I should have left it for him too.
And I usually get shit for posting from The Sun anyway. Something about Liverpool.
“JUST FOWL Boy, 14, arrested after a neighbour accused him of raping his pet CHICKEN to death
Mansab Ali said the 14-year-old boy stole the hen from his shop, in Jalalpur Bhattian, Pakistan, before carrying out the bizarre sex attack.”
https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/4922865/boy-14-arrested-after-a-neighbour-accused-him-of-raping-his-pet-chicken-to-death/
See, he should have paid for it.
Is there any sex attack in Pakistan with an animal that can really be tagged “bizarre”? I mean, it’s fucking Pakistan.
Well there was that incident where a Capybera raped an Imam… no one knows how the Capybera got into the country.
Was it ‘rape-rape’, or one of those ‘date-rape, he said, he said’ things?
The victim must have 5 witnesses in order to get a verdict.
“”They grew up together, and Chicken Nugget was her first love,” Kylee said of her daughter.”
In light of the previous story, maybe that requires some clarification?
Anyway, that pony must have done something to the Clintons.
Anyway, that pony must have done something to the Clintons.
There was a suicide note, written by someone who is right-handed, when the pony is clearly left-handed, er, hoofed.
“The case was heard at Mold Crown Court”
*looks at photo*
I see that.
^fungal obsession
NTTAWWT
I’m fine with it. Really I am. I just can’t help but wonder how many of the people saying “You go girl! Right on! GRRRLLL POWER!” will be insisting that johns be arrested for sex trafficking within a week.
Cult leader Charles Manson is reportedly on his death bed in hospital as sources claim ‘it’s just a matter of time.’
Isn’t that…kinda always the case?
In this case that measure of time is noticably shorter, and should be short.
uuu… need caffiene.
He was dying for years…
He never said anything about how much time! He just said “It’s a matter of time!”
Everyone’s death is just a matter of time!
Also, not sure if you’re trolling me. Of course I know what he meant. *Sneers with disdain*
And no coffee for me. Kicking my feet up to some World War I footage and a nice glass of soju mixed with blue PowerAid, because I am a noble and classy man.
I plan to watch the end of the universe with Ron Bailey.
I hear there’s a lovely restaurant with an excellent view of the phenomenon. You should two should make reservations now before it books up.
There was some expectation he would live forever, since only the good die young.
Oh, goddammit.
That’s what they say.
Fuck Billy Joel and this stupid song.
I’m a native Floridian, my wife was born and bred in Lawn-Guy Land. We’ve discovered LI folk have the same love/hate relationship with Joel as we True Crackers have with Jimmy Buffet. Fun Fact – I have hazy, yet fond memories of our once every 5 or 6 weeks sail in to Key West to utilize what was, at the time, the only supermarket in the Keys. These trips always included a side trip to the playground with the big rocket feature (as seen on the album insert of Livin’ And Dyin’ In 3/4 Time), a snowcone from the old Cuban man’s pushcart, and a stop at the Southernmost Marker to dig this awesome Okie busker sing about dope and sailing.
$450 million.
I watched the Futurama episode the other night in which Fry discovered he was a billionaire. He was selecting pieces of fine art and then shooting them with a high-powered rifle.
He paid $50 million for a can of anchovies.
Well, they *were* extinct (thank you very much, Zoidberg) and Mom knew they could put her out of business. Supply and demand!
One the one hand this is terribly silly. On the other if you can afford to shell out 450 mil for a painting you can afford to be silly, and at least it is a da Vinci
He paid $50 million for a can of anchovies.
The funniest real-life version of that is the prominent artist who found out he was dying and put a can of his own poop on the market. It was an insult to the art world because he was literally telling them that they’d pay top dollar for his shit. The art world fully understood the insult but also understood that his last work would be of some inherent significance. It was either the Tate or the National Gallery (IIRC) that paid six figures for it.
That was some years ago and now they’re faced with the problem of preserving the work since, apparently, even canned poop decomposes and emits gases that will cause the can to explode.
What a shitty thing to do.
Just proves what I’ve been saying about modern “Art”
Modern art is the white people of art.
A lot of it really does invite a response like this.
What they need to do is irradiate the can to kill off the bacteria inside. It’s not as if anyone’s clamoring to see the can’o’shit in the gallery, it can sit out the safety window afterwards.
apparently, even canned poop decomposes and emits gases that will cause the can to explode.
All part of the total artistic experience. Maybe a blank canvas should be positioned to preserve the moment.
Inside a box, which you then unfold after the can pops.
I watched animated kids movie “The Son of Bigfoot” last night and question the authenticity of the representation. There was no rape anywhere.
The rape portrayals were very nuanced, since Bigfoot, Jr. wad thinking about running for Senator in Alabama.
I’m sure there was some implied subtext on that.
STEVE SMITH LOBBY MPAA FOR NEW RATING CATEGORY “NR-17”. BELIEVE RAPE FOR 17 YEAR OLDS AND UP. STEVE SMITH HAVE STANDARDS.
You know Roy Moore is in trouble when his standards are below those of Steve Smith.
Look, there’s no genetic component to being a rapist. With the amount of rape-spawn that inevitably exist, you’re bound to find some that are not into what their sire is.
STEVE GIVE YOU SOME GENETIC COMPONENT, IF YOU GET WHAT STEVE IS SAYING…
AND YOU WILL.
Fifth or Sixth? Judges decision! Don’t let them get you down Sloop, I like the sportzball updates! Fucking winter hours might just earn me a First one fine day! Anyhoo, off to the land o’ nod for this tired, old labourer. Have a shiny one, everybody!
6 Democrats introduce Articles,of Impeachment against President Trump.
Hey, in this crazy, mixed-up world, I can totally see this working.
How many times have they done this? It’s their version of the Obamacare repeal bill. Ignore it.
Cohen laid out five articles which they believe merit impeachment:
Obstruction of justice
Violation of the Constitution’s foreign emoluments clause
Violation of the domestic emoluments clause
Undermining the federal judiciary
Undermining freedom of the press
Does no one remember that in their zeal to prove the obstruction of Justice claim, it came out that Comey was a corrupt coward who obstructed Justice himself?
The dnc operatives with bylines sure as hell don’t want you to remember that…
Observation: There are hot Indian girls. That’s all. Enjoy the tits you disgusting perverts.
http://archive.is/QGkwS
You’re going to need to provide more supporting evidence to call us disgusting perverts. Your links are sub-softcore content.
… I think I just made your point for you.
There’d be a lot more without all the crippling poverty and malnourishment that goes along with it, I suspect.
Some of us ain’t big fans of the THICC.
How do you feel about body odor, bad breath, and a lack of teeth?
I try not to objectify women by looking at those. (Yeah, right.)
But I looked today. What’s up with #21’s nipple placement? It’s all wrong.
They don’t look like implants, not really sure what’s up with that. Maybe the way that her top is pushing them together is just uneven?
#46 is a pretty good photoshop, btw.
I drive under the real one about 2 times a week.
That bridge has a bit of a graffiti problem.
They solved the problem by designating that art.
It got painted over a few times in the last year but the guy always comes back and tags it.
Funny thing is, I think it’s against federal law for the railroads to come in and paint the bridges unless they are doing it as part of a scheduled maintenance and have someone from the government there to oversee it. It has to do with covering up any rusting or deterioration by concealment. So they have to leave them alone.
There’s an overpass in my area that has had “<3 U Rachel – Babybird” for several years. There’s also something that says “Measese“. I’m still trying to figure out what that one means.
13. And even though 33 isn’t showing any cleavage, she’s the most realistic looking one on there and still gorgeous as hell.
Tease! I was expecting a post of some hot dark Indian girls!
Same. :sad face:

Cultural appropriation.
THICCCCCCCCCCC
Each and everyone of them a virgin.
For two million, I suspect a lot of them would identify as a virgin.
Twitter is unverifying members of the right. You never really hear the term “fringe” used in reference to the left. I’m to the point where if some asshole lefty describes someone that way, I’m almost inclined to think they probably aren’t that bad.
That’s funny since a lot of leftists I know are pretty “fringey.”
Like just looking up this Laura Loomer. She was from Project Veritas and Rebel. She made some negative comments about Sharia and went to Chelsea Clinton’s book signing asking her to sign it to Juanita Broadrick. She’s a conservative Jew who isn’t fond of Muslims. The horror!
She’s also a complete jackass.
As compared to, say, the verified and perfectly-acceptable-in-the-mainstream Linda Sarsour?
Sarsour is worse, but that doesn’t mean both aren’t bad.
She looks trans.
Loomer is fucking crazy. Like, seriously fucked up in the head.
Of course, that doesn’t mean she’s done anything to warrant being unverified. But she is seriously psychotic. Everyone on the right is distancing themselves from her.
::looks up at links::
::looks at Brichettaward’s link::
::looks back up at links::
::runs off sobbing::
This is a link eat link world. We need government to regulate the links posted so that this doesn’t happen again.
Linkular appropriation?
You’re his first victim on here…or are you?
*looks for clues*
“The social media site said it was in the process of eliminating the verification status of accounts that do not adhere to a new set of guidelines it issued on Wednesday. These include accounts that use misleading names or identities on Twitter, promote hate or violence against other people based on race, nationality, sexual orientation, religion and gender – or support organizations and individuals that promote these messages – harass others, threaten violence or distribute gruesome imagery.”
I severely doubt they are going to unverify people on the left who “promote hate or violence against other people based on race, nationality, sexual orientation, religion and gender”.
“The check marks are a visual cue that the company gives to prominent accounts to help readers ensure they are authentic.”
That’s all it should be. The only thing that should matter is that Richard Spencer’s account actually belongs to Richard Spencer. Even Twitter admits that it was never meant to be an endorsement.
Leftist explaining themselves to Twitter: Sure I said those hateful and ignorant things but I was doing it for DIVERSITY!
Twitter: Diversity, eh? Okay.
I’m not sure what the point of “verification” is supposed to be. I *thought* the intent was just to deal with spoofing, i.e., “yes, this account is the real actual Sean Spicer, not the witty spoof account”. However, it seems to have been bastardized into some combination of that intent plus a “we endorse this account’s goodthink” stamp of approval.
In other words, typically muddled progressive bullshit.
From what I’ve read it seems that the point of verification was to prove that “important figures” were who they said they were and not a spoof account. Problem was a lot of people starting interpreting the check marks to mean that Twitter approved of the person and started whining about Twitter approving white nationalists and such. Twitter screwed themselves by granting some validity to that with obviously politicized de-verifications like agains Milo, so the SJWs started screeching louder about it. Now Twitter is basically caving and using the checkmarks as “Twitter seals of approval.”
The Chicago taxpayers can take another hit. I mean, it’s not like the city’s in debt or anything, right?
He should be able to beat every one of these officers within an inch of their lives. He can be “convicted” if they want, and just sentenced to time served.
Eh. That doesn’t give you your time back. I’m for a settlement and incarceration for the popo responsible.
Incarceration? No. What does that do for him? My suggestion – 27 years of indentured servitude for each of the officers., Let them be legally bound to be his lackeys for the next 27 years that he can hire out to other people.
Until the settlements start coming from the pension fund and until judges start compelling these witnesses to testify truthfully or face contempt (and being jailed until they comply), none of this will ever change.
Agreed. Which means none of this will ever change, period. It’s too easy for the right to fellate the “thin blue line” and too easy for the left to just cry “racism!”. The alternative is the right looking like they don’t love cops or the left challenging a public sector union.
I’d quietly and patiently plot something if I were a vengeful man.
After 27 years, I’d probably have the plot already worked out.
Just a matter of digging the holes.
If I was a Chicagoan I’d be way more upset about this sort of policing.
Sure innocent people are going to get locked up. Can’t be helped. But hassling chicks that want to go topless? MONSTERS!
Not really news at this point:
Chris Christie would have made a better attorney general than Jeff Sessions
Yeah, well, my dog would have made a better attorney general than Jeff Sessions.
Then your dog must be upset that Obama passed him over twice.
He was just a puppy back then, so he didn’t care.
Trump was livid over that dumb move. But it was the Donald’s own dumb move that led to the debacle now dominating the headlines.
Ha, Ha! Fifteen-dimensional chess, fools!
Christie does have an established track record of railroading people.
So yeah.
Trump should also appoint Lewindowski for something. Relive the good times, you know?
I’m not seeing any benefit to Christie instead of Sessions. They both suck.
Thanks to Sessions, there is an independent counsel with a staff full of Clinton cronies, running free looking for any excuse to indite members of the Trump Administration. Meanwhile, simple Jeff can’t even be bothered to look into anything the previous Administration or Clinton did.
Trump pauses during remarks for sip of water
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-pauses-during-remarks-to-sip-water/
This amused me as a news headline. At least it was not milk.
My reaction is “Who cares?” it has been that since they fixated on that crap with previous politicians.
Here’s why it’s a story:
And Rubio’s response:
Because Trump is a hypocrite stories have worked so well against him in the past.
I didn’t mean to imply it was warranted. It seems like more of TMZ-type story or maybe some hyper-partisan outlet.
*looks again at link. See’s it’s CBS*
Oh, I guess it was a hyper-partisan outlet.
I still find the headline amusing
Yes, the headline is hilarious.
I guess he thinks he can do anything he wants, since he got hisself elected President.
Did you assume the presidents preferred pronouns?
Get over it.
-response to any pronoun kerfuffle.
First two scoops, then the hamburger, and now this?! Is there no end to Trump’s depravity and diminishing the dignity of the office?!? I’m just thankful for our brave media covering these important stories.
He does eat his steaks well done, which means he’s barely human.
^^^
Well done…. with ketchup
I can’t tell if he’s just fucking with us or not…
Don’t forget taco bowls. I find taco bowls objectionable.
I knew they were going to make an issue of that.
I happened to have the TV on ABC when they broke to his address. After it ended, Martha Raddatz immediately went with ‘”60% of the people don’t trust the President to deal with North Korea.’
They’re beyond the pale. Objective journalism my ass.
Right, and Hillary has a 98% chance of winning the election.
I wouldn’t mind the obvious partisanship if they were honest about it (I’d still mock them of course). It’s the fact that they keep pretending that they are objective and neutral news that infuriates me.
Ted S hardest hit.
Ted sure is obsessed with milk.
Don’t know if you saw it last night Bacon, but since you inspired me yesterday, here’s another hot rod.

3 made a strong impression but comes second. There’s something honest there. Yowza.
28 is just a cartoon. I love it.
24 is an honorable mention, but she looks too similar to 13 to push her over the top.
6 has killed before and will again. Christ. Those are the eyes of a cannibal.
20 is a man, baby!!!
45 may be my fetish. In real life, give me 32 any day.
God dammit. You know where this was supposed to go!
That line never works.

I only did that a couple of times!

XStream Trucking has introduced its TruckWings active cab-to-trailer aerodynamic system to the North American market. In its prototype form, called GapGorilla, it won the company first prize in the 2016 First Look West (FloW) competition run by Caltech’s Resnick Sustainability Institute. Now its shape-shifting approach to reducing drag is heading for the highway with the promise of fuel savings of up to five percent.
https://newatlas.com/truckwings-active-aero-fuel-saving/52198/
Seems silly to me, wings on trucks.
When the truck jack knifes that should make some fun splinters.
They retract at reduced speeds. This is actually genius, as that’s really the drag pinch point in truck/trailer design, since the rear of the newer van trailers all have those tapers to reduce drag. If this saves guys 5% on fuel* then it’ll make trucking more competitive and save consumers money.
*at least the guys driving aero cabs. The dudes driving hoods still don’t give a fuck about drag because those W900s and 379/388s look too badass to ever leave.
Sloopy is speaking truth to (diesel) power
They keep pushing aerodynamic gimmicks like these instead of upping the allowable weights or increasing the number of trailers.
Burden Of Opioid Crisis Reached $95 Billion In 2016; Private Sector Hit Hardest
Well that’s 53,054 fewer people contributing their carbon footprint. Think about it. ::wiggles eyebrows::
In all seriousness, disband the DEA, deregulate all controlled substances at the federal level, allow the market to bring costs down and quality up, and allow the court system to police market actors.
At this point, being opposed to the drug war is akin to being the guy in the fifth century BC saying maybe we shouldn’t be making decisions based on what some dude thinks the gods are saying through chicken entrails. You’re just wasting your fucking time. It’s never going to happen.
At this point, being opposed to high taxes is akin to being the guy in the fifth century BC saying maybe we shouldn’t be making decisions based on what some dude thinks the gods are saying through chicken entrails. You’re just wasting your fucking time. It’s never going to happen.
Also honestly with the slow incremental MJ decriminalisation and state-level legalisation, along with municipalities starting to experiment with decriminalising harder stuff, I’m on net optimistic of meaningful reform over the decades. However, people love them some hysteria, so it could go either way.
I’m more cynical. The only reason MJ decriminalization is making headway is because people are starting to think it’s not really that harmful. A lot of the harder drugs, while they should be legal, have some serious negative affects, and I don’t think the nanny impulse of making sure people don’t use harmful substances has changed.
Yeah, I see where you’re coming from. I pretty much doubt that with a few exceptions, the days of ordering laudanum out of the Sears Roebuck catalog for home delivery are likely to return for a good long time, if ever. However, what has happened in Portugal seems to be humming along without major incident.
It’s funny how “Europe does it!!” is only an excuse for things that “progressives” want to do.
What’s the cost of the constant hysterical news stories?
TDS, #RefuseFascism, Baseball Shootings, assaults on lawnmowing Congresscritters…
Imma say those costs are 90% made up conjectures based on loose assumptions and shit pulled directly from someone’s ass.
Am I the only one that can’t click the link?
So why don’t we just stop throwing people in prison for non-violent drug offenses?
Decriminalizing it would also reduce this since you wouldn’t have kids getting sent to foster care while their parents are in prison for shooting up heroin.
Speaking of sports….
St. Cloud State is oppressing the wimmen!
Women tennis players and nordic skiers are trying to have their lawsuits combined as a class action suit.
Background: SCSU trimmed the budget of its sports programs recently. A lot of stupid sports were cut. Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams were cut (not sure about men’s nordic ski team).
Probably the only sport that returns money is the hockey team.
I bet it doesn’t. At UND every single sport operates in the red. Even the Men’s Hockey program.
Probably not. I know if I were ever put in charge of a college, I’d instantly zero out the entire athletics department. Make the NFL and NBA pay for their own farm systems.
I completely agree with this suit. Obviously, if they’re going to give all this funding to hockey, they need to match it with funding for bikini volleyball and women’s mud wrestling.
‘Unsafe and Just Plain Dirty’: Women Accuse Vice of ‘Toxic’ Sexual-Harassment Culture
https://www.thedailybeast.com/unsafe-and-just-plain-dirty-women-accuse-vice-of-toxic-sexual-harassment-culture
„In the summer of 2015, Phoebe Barghouty was 23 years old and had a new master’s degree in journalism from Stanford—but little other experience” – I am not a huge fan of this masters at 23 with not much experience
„The unusual interactions continued. Barghouty says Larsen would touch her at work—on the small of the back, on her bare thigh—in ways that he didn’t touch the other employees. And she wasn’t producing much journalism.” – quit, complain to upper managment etc. Not that the guy wasn;t an pos if this is true.
„Vice founders Gavin McInnes and Shane Smith have been open about the fact that the Vice brand was built, at least in part, on the objectification of women. In the ’90s-era magazine (mostly written by McInnes), naked women graced the covers and sexual exploitation filled its pages via fact-free articles– bring back Gavin
Phoebe just looks like an over-educated Jewish girl who is going to bitch about the slightest thing that upsets or offends her.
Uffda.
Al Franken tries to pretend he is one of us.
He is attacking the tax plan because it would add additional burdens on Minnesoda cabin owners.
Sorry, but I just don’t see Al being a guy who likes to go to a cabin and be on lake time in the summer.
Or a guy who is bothered by increasing tax burdens
A guy too dumb to understand what the committee he serves on actually does?
yep, if you stop subsidizing high tax states by limiting deductions for state income and property taxes, then residents of high tax states will feel it. oh, is that not the narrative?
The piece notes that the House bill eliminates the state and local sales and income tax deduction, and limits the property tax deduction to $10,000. The Senate bill eliminates all those deductions entirely.
Property values would drop and property taxes would rise for cabin owners if the tax bill was passed as it has been presented, John James argued in the op-ed. James is a director of Minnesota Lakes and Rivers Advocates.
Fuck you, cut spending.
“…this never happens…”
They will just keep repeating that lie like they have for years. Some estimates put the number of times good guys with guns stop crime at around 1,000,000 times per year. It seems we have had a spate of news reports lately so maybe the attitude is changing and the gun grabbers will have to invent a new lie.
Who shot the pony? What kind of asshole would do that? I used to know some cops who would bring .22 rifles with them and load them with CB caps for their night patrols. If they weren’t on a call they were hunting dogs. Any dog running loose got popped just because they loved killing. Draw your own conclusion about what kind of asshole would do that.
Our neighbors have a couple of dogs that some other neighbors are shooting with a .22 rifle. They don’t know, who is doing it, but suspect someone. They called the police, who said, basically, “you can’t loose the dogs on the perpetrators, but if you catch them shooting your dogs and give them a beat-down, we won’t do anything.” Or, something to that effect.
The dog-owning neighbors think that the shooters are trying to provoke the dogs to attack, so that the dogs will be seized by the constabulary, then their house can be robbed.
In Louisiana deliberately depriving someone of their dog permanently is a felony. It carries up to ten years in no-shit prison.
Napoleon was a great dog lover
I thought it was called pound-you-in-the-ass prison?
It just happened here yesterday.
If he had his rifle they’d never had caught him.
Classic.
I remember looking into it after Newtown. It’s an extremely difficult thing to count. The vast majority of incidents don’t involve shooting, and an unknown number are not reported to the police. Also, whatever the number of incidents is, it doesn’t count all the times when the possibility of a gun was a deterrent, where nothing happened because the would-be criminal never made an attempt.
Very true. That 1M number was extrapolated from known incidences to include unknown, which of course is bullshit. Still, even if it is off by 10X that is one hell of a lot of crime stopped by private citizens.
There are zero home invasion robberies in my part of the country. And it’s not just because we don’t have any violent criminals living around. Draw your own conclusions as to why that is.
Burglaries and break-ins that take place when people are home, known as “hot” break-ins, are fairly common in Europe, but very rare in the U.S. Not really a mystery as to why that is.
District Attorney Faith Johnson fired Jody Warner, 32, an experienced assistant prosecutor, on Monday after Johnson reviewed an audio recording of Warner drunkenly threatening and abusing 26-year-old Uber driver Shaun Platt over the weekend.
I only read about it yesterday in the links, but it’s just as delicious today as it was yesterday. And it will be just as delicious tomorrow.
Leftovers are just as nutritious, and, with only half the prep!
You should listen to the source audio. She extra deserved to get sacked.
It is indeed glorious. Her sobbing for the cameras was the cherry on top.
top people
She wanted to get out of there so bad that she repeatedly refused to do so under threat of the cops being called.
Also, so many of these people just stink of little privileged shits who never faced real consequences for anything they’ve done in their life. They’re all too happy to throw the book and judge others. To be part of that mob. But stunned to find themselves on the other side. It’s painfully obvious how little she’s been held account in her life by how her statement is just her throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks. She isn’t even self-aware enough to see how horrible she comes off or how incoherent she sounds. She’ll just surround herself with some other “good” people with the right credentials, and say whatever she wants and people will believe her. Because they always have.
I listened to the recording. She sounds like an absolute moron. I mean, i get that she’s drunk. But you’d think she could spout some coherent legaleze other than “you are wrecklessly… keeping me from getting to where I’m supposed to go”.
Also, how come whenever you see/hear these recordings of unruly Uber passengers, it’s almost always women?
Because American women are the most pampered, privileged people on the face of the earth and are rarely held to account for their bad behavior. Rather, they are encouraged to be obnoxious as it is deemed “empowering” and “strong”.
^This. Obviously its a huge overgeneralization, but I live in NoVA, and holy shit everyone is pretty entitled here. The women are just more annoying than the men about it (usually).
Growing up in a tourist trap, it was always women who were the worst complainers about everything.
Guys could be really, really pissed off, but for the most part they understood that in some situations there was nothing to be done and complaining more wouldn’t magically change things.
Women would always think that if they kept complaining about a lost reservation, somehow a new room would magically appear. If it didn’t that just meant you hadn’t complained enough.
Probably related: Guys also know how to tip for the best results. Pissed off guy with no reservation will often accept his fate and then slip you $5 (big tip back in the day) and ask that if a cancelation comes in, you remember him. That guy is going to get that extra room if one opens up. The whiny gal? No way ever she is going to get a room. Even if one opens up.
Best situation, where cancellation happens while whiny gal is standing there. As she screeches about how that is her room, you call the guy who tipped you over and give it to him and then explain to the woman that he was on a waiting list.
I swear that it s a genetic thing. Nobody can elevate the art of complaining to the level women do. Even the ones that don’t fly off the crazy axis on the matrix, end up proving this generalization true. And in the vast majority of cases, when they are whining, they are not looking for a solution, just for you to tell the they are right, even when they are not.

‘When I die you’ll love me’: Rapper Lil Peep dies of ‘drug overdose’ at 21 hours after posting eerie final message… as former lover Bella Thorne leads heartfelt tributes
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5088059/Lil-Peep-21-dies-reputed-drug-overdose.html#ixzz4yaJipf1W
I mean guy dying is unfortunate, but sometimes I look at these people and think why am I not surprised. Also I will never understand getting ugly tattoos on your face.
Man what the hell, that Daily Fail page made my Chrome browser crash. As far as face tats go, Gucci Mane’s shocking ice cream cone face tattoo is the king of ’em all.
“He was candid about his drug use, revealing LSD, acid, mushrooms and weed are his drugs of choice atop previously taking 20 Xanax a day to combat anxiety”
Fucking 20 Xanies a day?! I….don’t think that’s possible unless they’re just absurdly small doses.
And I agree with Pie. That many face tattoos (or…any?) and I’m guessing a history of fairly profound trauma or mental illness.
You do build a resistance to it from constant use over time. This is why people with chronic pain need higher and higher doses of narcotics to get relief.
LSD, mushrooms, amd weed aren’t going to hurt you much and are impossible to overdose on.
The xanax, the only one that is semi legal, will kill you if overdone.
I wouldn’t recommend chugging LSD.
I wouldn’t recommend it either, but there are zero reported cases of death from LSD overdose. Zero, ever. It’s not possible.
If you can find one, I’d like to see it. I have looked.
I’d probably just say that high dose xanax use carries a higher risk profile than hardcore recreational LSD practices. Comparing LD50 numbers could be instructive.
Alprazolam (feizer datasheet): Mouse Oral LD 50 1410-1700 mg/kg, Rat Oral LD50 1220 (F) mg/kg, Rat Oral LD50 3100 (M) mg/kg
LSD (Haddad & Winchester, 1990): 46 mg/kg in mice, 16.5 mg/kg in rats – can’t pull the actual publication verbiage right now.
Dunno, I suspect that that there’s a different level of respect that people have for LSD because it’s easier to freak out on than Xanax. Or so I’ve heard, never tried it. Xanax, on the other hand, provides a different suite of sensations.
Xanax isn’t deadly by itself. Although it can be when mixed with alcohol or other drugs.
A literal handful of xanax pills will fuck you up pretty bad, I suspect.
If the “Rat Oral LD50 3100 (M) mg/kg” that’s around 90,000 2mg “bricks” for a 130lb. Someone swallowing handfuls of pills would pass out long before they consumed a lethal dose.
Oh wow, that’s interesting.
This blew me away:
LSD is definitely more theoretically hazardous than xanax. Enough xanax plus enough alcohol on the other hand…..
Who could have seen the warning signs?
He looks like he fell asleep on the couch at a frat party.
NOTE I: By the way, “unverifiable” doesn’t mean “untrue,” although sometimes these accusations are untrue. It means “impossible to tell.” And defending a person’s right to not be judged on the basis of unverifiable allegations does not mean defense of the behavior alleged, although the accusers would have you think so.
We’ve passed our tipping point as a society when Nicki Minaj and Beyonce can call themselves artists unironically without being roundly mocked.
Also, would.
You couldn’t handle it
Heh. I know art when I see it and that ain’t art.
Leonardo just got something sold for $450 million honey – and he’s dead!
Now that’s a winner and an artist and humanity recognized it.
Beyonce can sing really well; singers have been called artists for decades. Minaj, otoh, is trash
Beyonce can sing adequately. Her career is not really based on her astounding voice.
Compared to what/who, though? She’s certainly more than adequate for a pop singer imo.
And how many musicians’ careers are based solely on talent? That’s not really unique to Beyonce or even the pop genre.
I don’t really like her music or genre, but she’s definitely among the best who are actively making music in said genre
If Tina Turner is an artist, Beyonce is an artist. Same schtick, same approximate talent level.
The comment was regarding her singing, not whether she is an artist. Anyone can be an artist, but not everyone can be a good artist.
I guess that depends on the nature of art. Take, for example, Stalin – terrible poet, just the worst. If, however, you consider him a performance artist he was probably the greatest Dadist to have ever lived.
That’s just slightly desperate
Looks up thread. /runs off crying.
Another victim of link appropriation! How long will we tolerate this without some common sense link control.

What are you scared of, friend?
It’s amazing to what depths humans will sink. It never ceases to amaze me how unprincipled and just plain evil law enforcement and the justice system can be towards innocent people. All for….ambition.
How can a guy like Gueverra look himself in the mirror – and his FAMILY and not feel shame for what he did to people is beyond me. It would eat me to death. My conscience would erode to the point of bringing me to my knees.
Yet, here they are. Going along eating their doughnuts, laughing and high fiving each other for a job well done. You can just hope justice does have karmic elements.
Chicago police sounds like is extremely rotted but hey! Chicago PD on TV is full of honourable cops! I hate that show. I can’t separate what we know about Chicago and the image portrayed on TV. That line is just too blurred to take the show seriously on any level.
Fuck I was on a jury for a murder trial and I got upset just thinking about my responsibility (and I was only an alternate).
I’m like you. I don’t know how you can sleep knowing you put an innocent guy in the slammer.
Even if you thought you had a good case and did your ethical best to try the case, only to find out later that you fucked up and put an innocent guy in jail it would haunt me.
I was on a jury for a misdemeanor assault and potential felony witness tampering charge and I felt it too. Although we did joke that with time served, the guy was going to beat us to our cars.
We found not guilty on the felony charge, guilty on assault and violating restraining order. Gave him 1 year.
https://law.justia.com/cases/kentucky/court-of-appeals/2013/2011-ca-001851-mr.html
My jury was retrying this case after the state supremes threw out the first trial. Some of the more serious charges were thrown out entirely and not retried, so ours was relatively mild in comparison.
The rape charge was off the table and minutes from the video weren’t shown to us.
Basicallly, we reheard the 4th degree assault charge and the 2nd intimidating a witness charge (the first was thrown out by that decision). We found guilty again on the assault, and not guilty on the intimidating a witness charge, but did find him guilty of the lesser charge of violating a restraining order (his lawyer TOLD us to find him guilty of that charge in her closing argument).
All the stories you read where the pundit screams about Trumps low low approval rating?
Yeah, well the Minnesoda media would kill for Trump’s numbers.
The deplorables that are quoted actually make a lot of sense. I wonder if Minnesoda Public Radio will listen and change their ways?
That is why they are deplorable. The elite want a population of dupes, a herd of cattle. When people are sensible they are despised by the elite.
No snark here, I am being earnest. The hillarys of the world detest sensible people.
I loved this quote:
I think it’s a bit more demeaning than that. It’s not that the elites want a population of dupes, it’s that the elites thinks that the population is a bunch of dupes aside from the enlightened, educated gentry. It’s why one of their favorite responses to wrong-think is to “educate yourself;” they think that any smart, educated person would believe as they do since they are so obviously in the right. In their view, the deplorable’s crime is two-fold; not being enlightened as they are, and resisting them. “Voting against their best interest” if you will.
It’s Sowell’s “vulgar pride of intellectuals,” and Hayak’s “intellectuals and socialism.”
I think it’s a bit more demeaning than that. It’s not that the elites want a population of dupes, it’s that the elites thinks that the population is a bunch of dupes aside from the enlightened, educated gentry.
Here’s the strange thing about that. When the bullshit is pulled away, most of these guys aren’t particularly more well educated or intellectual than the people they’re looking their noses down at. Someone here yesterday commented on a former friend pulling out the education card in an argument. The guy had all of two more years of education. In a lot of cases the claim to authority is even more ridiculous and the person copping the attitude has even less education.
The difference isn’t actual education. It’s the fact that gentry culture defines itself by its education. Even a person in gentry culture with just a BA defines him or herself as enlightened or educated just by virtue of their adherence to gentry culture.
It’s the fact that gentry culture defines itself by its education.
I would have said credentials, but yeah, its pretty much mandatory that you graduate from college to be taken at all seriously in gentryville. The only exceptions are entertainers (a shocking number of which didn’t even graduate high school, never mind college) and very rich people in the “right” industries – tech, mainly.
I would have said credentials, but yeah, its pretty much mandatory that you graduate from college to be taken at all seriously in gentryville.
That’s partly true, but not entirely. That’s the screwy thing about it. I may have misspoke. Rather then “defines itself by its education”, I should have said “defines itself as educated. The actual education isn’t ultimately what it values. A gentry member with a BA will call a oilman with a PhD in Geology who speaks five languages “uneducated” because he doesn’t buy into gentry dogma. The same gentry member will call a guy with an MBA from a top program “uneducated” when he doesn’t buy into their outlook. They’ll wave hands and change the subject if either calls bullshit. But, they’ll still speak and think of them as uneducated.
Unless they find a way to corner the Internet, that wet dream is over.

One might think so, but my impression is that all these guys (prosecutors, cops) see are numbers on a scoreboard, not human lives.
I think that’s part of the problem. A person who sees human lives isn’t going to last long in the role of prosecutor. Either they’ll quit for the reasons people here have raised, or they’ll get fired for not being aggressive enough.
“Ehh, he was a scumbag, if wasn’t guilty of that, he deserved it for something else.”
Thoughts on New Delhi:
You can’t discuss this city without making reference to the traffic. There are no words to describe the complete chaos that are the roads and freeways of this this city. People in LA have a fucking cakewalk compared to this place. How anyone gets around is beyond me. You realize how small that makes your world, I essentially live in the hotel, then get picked up by the company car, keep my eyes shut the whole way to the office, somehow making there alive, work then come back to the hotel. There is no option to get out.
Pollution is UNBELIEVABLE. Imagine pea-soup-thick fog, then realize that it’s all toxic sludge and smoke. It smells like a combination of burning sewage and charcoal 24/7. It’s so thick, you can’t see across the road.
Cows in the road and piles of garbage are definitely a real thing. There are *zero* women out and about; it’s too dangerous. Hordes of hundreds of young, unemployed men hang out on street corners hoping to get picked up as day laborers.
That’s enough of the bad, the good: Food; awesome if you like spicy curry (which I do). Puts the Indian food in the US to shame, I’m certain I’ve put on a couple of pounds being here. I haven’t interacted much with the wandering bands of semi-vagrant men, however the Indian coworkers I’m interacting with daily are an absolute joy. So friendly and happy. A core part of the culture is hospitality, so they are incredibly warm; they are also intensely proud of their country and very eager to share about it. Kingfisher is a pretty good beer, light lager on par with Coors, but with a little more flavor.
Would I voluntarily come back? Probably not, though it sounds as if I have to for work at some point. Is it the worst place on Earth? Definitely not. Even without having been there, I can say this place is light years better than Afghanistan or a dozen other places. I’m sure there are great places to see in Delhi and India as a whole, but it’s very hard to get past the traffic and the pollution.
There are no words to describe the complete chaos that are the roads and freeways – so pretty libertarian
Pollution is UNBELIEVABLE- this is what libertarians want
There are *zero* women out and about; – just like US campuses
But it is a valuable experience

“Joe Scarborough to release Trump-inspired Christmas EP titled ‘A Very Drumpf Christmas'”
http://www.businessinsider.com/scarborough-trump-themed-ep-drumpf-christmas-2017-11
How droll.
Christ, these motherfuckers are getting seriously tiresome. They are still hammering on the ‘Trump voters are ignoramus’ and deplorable’. Are we really gonna have to put up with 8 years of this shit?
You know you’ll be listening to this throughout the Christmas season, and every Christmas for the rest of the Age of Trump.
Joe Scarborough is a serious man.
Oh! Scarborough made fun of the origins of Trump’s name! BURN!!!
Christ almighty! The entire Drumpf thing was only passingly amusing when they first touted it. At this point, they’re showing that they can only aspire to the wit and biting insights of a Mike M.
Well, that’s kinda fun! I guarantee that I fucked up the tags.
Today’s comments got me thinking.
Who had a more horrible impact on humanity: Billy Joel or Charles Manson?
I really don’t know the answer.
Billy Joel >>>>>>> Bruce Springsteen
Billy Joel > Bruce Springsteen =/= Hitler
That’s the nicest I can be to “The Boss”.
Fuck Springsteen. He’s the worst musician in the history of music. He’s worse than Steve Perry.
You’ve been wrong before…
Just think of it this way.
Bruce Springsteen: For When You’re Really Craving the Sound of Constipated Ape.
That’s simply not true. Some of his songs sound great when lyrics are written and sung by others.

Will it be thirty minutes of Mrs Scarborough, in a stars and stripes top hat, pegging him?

Just to brag a little bit I left something out of my account of last weekend and the rifle. When my brother and I were setting the scope on the rifle we got tired of walking the 150 yards back and forth to check our shots so I walked down to the target then off to the side about 30 yards. He would shoot, I would walk up to the target, check it, signal where the shot landed and then back off again for him to shoot with the new settings. After a few times we traded places. After we got it set he said to me “Y’a know, there isnt another person on this planet that I would trust to do that. No. Way.”
Greatest compliment ever.
I wouldn’t stand out there – even with someone I trusted behind the rifle. The potential losses would be too great.
*hands Uncivil a tumbler with two fingers of scotch.*
Knock this back and we will talk again.
Now knock back another and then set the glass on your head.
Given that the person firing the rifle could just as easily turn around and shoot you while you’re standing behind him, I don’t see what the issue is.
Accidents, not intentional murder. There’s risk mitigation and then there’s paranoia.
That’s 11 degrees off target. May as well be intentional.
Hey look at this guy and his fancy “trigonometry” here.
Well, I have had people actively try to shoot me a few times so I wasn’t all that worried about someone actively trying not to. I kept the action open and the rifle vertical with the cartridge in my other hand until he signaled to me he was out of the way and ready. Then I would load, aim and shoot with the muzzle never passing a straight line to the target in his direction. Then I would open the action and hold the rifle vertical so he could see it was safe before approaching the target.
*hands Uncivil another two fingers*
My. brother and I have done something pretty similiar. It’s not that big of a deal at 100 or so yards with a rifle that is hitting within a foot or so of aim point and a person you trust.
Somebody needs to get better optics. I can see the holes in the paper with mine at 200 wit he right paper and at 100 with any paper target.
http://imgur.com/vUs5K4M
It would be a sin to put optics on something this beautiful
You don’t have to mount the optics to use them for spotting.
That must have been, uhm, invigorating. I can’t imagine the rage I would experience if I was shot at.
Back in my Marine days, I always thought working the butts was fun. Sitting on a bench while bullets whizzed by 4 feet over your head.
Stand by!……..TARGETS!

That’s all because of Trump.
The small number of people I have known who went to India said it’s a beautiful place, if you keep away from the cities. One and all, they raved about the Himalayas.
Also don’t go alone if you are a woman, even outside cities
One of my female friends in college went. I tried to talk her out of it but she was too naive to listen to me. When she got back she complained that the woman who housed her would never let her out of a walled compound. She thought she was being kept as a captive. No amount of my explaining would get through to her.
Oh well. At least she didn’t get cooked and eaten.

Stop paying these terrorist sponsoring theocratic zealots.
They are proggies. They are paying indulgences for white guilt. Obama was magnanimous enough to do it on our behalf. Now it is the limeys turn.
I used to think Boris was a clown not a moron now I dunno
This is either a payment or a bribe, they’re just trying to hide that (same as Obama’s deal). The question is what are they trying to get in exchange?
The wanton destruction of Obama’s legacy and Mother Earth continues…
The Trump administration announced Wednesday that the remains of elephants legally hunted in Zimbabwe and Zambia can now be imported to the United States as trophies, reversing a ban under former president Barack Obama.
African elephants are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined that large sums paid for permits to hunt the animals could actually help them “by putting much-needed revenue back into conservation,” according to an agency statement.
Under the Obama administration, elephant-hunting trophies were allowed in countries such as South Africa but not in Zimbabwe because Fish and Wildlife decided in 2015 that the nation had failed to prove that its management of elephants enhanced the population. Zimbabwe could not confirm its elephant population in a way that was acceptable to U.S. officials, and did not demonstrate an ability to implement laws to protect it.
Oh, no.
Well, I mean, with Mugabe out of office…
I would have a hell of a hard time letting the hammer down on an elephant that wasn’t actively trying to kill me. Who can shoot an elephant for sport?
I’m pretty open to trophy hunting, but I think in the case of elephants, it’s morally wrong. They’re highly intelligent and social.
“They’re highly intelligent and social”
In that case, I guess you won’t mind my human head trophy room.
I assume it’s just libertarians.
They mourn their dead, for pete’s sake
If rich people weren’t hunting the elephants for sport, there would be no elephants. Same as if cows weren’t weren’t tasty, therr would be no cows.
The greatest thing you can do for elephant preservation is to pay 10,000 to the game preserve and go shoot one.
I think this is unfortunately about right. It’s sad to see the them get killed. But, from what I’ve read, absent game hunting, the locals see elephants as a pest. They run through their crops, break things, etc. If the locals couldn’t make a buck off of killing them selectively, they’d kill them en masse.
All those millionaires in Zimbabwe can afford to help the elephants themselves.
Millionaires, billionaires, Zimbabwe is one if the richest nations of Earth. /Krugabe

OK, I didn’t know who Joan Vollmer was, looked it up, did some more searching on the internet, and came across this rather upsetting website. (Probably NSFW and definitely not safe if you’re eating.)
I wonder why I haven’t seen that robbery shooting article posted a bunch on facebook by my retarded friends?
Retarded Friends would be a good band name.
Go ahead and beat them to the punch. They always like gun stories.
A famous Egyptian singer faces trial for “spreading provocative publicity” after she suggested that drinking from the River Nile could make someone ill.
A lawsuit was filed after video emerged showing Sherine Abdel Wahab being asked at a concert last year to sing Mashrebtesh Men Nilha (Have You Drunk from the Nile?)
She responded by saying “drinking from the Nile will get me schistosomiasis” – a disease commonly known as bilharzia.
“Drink Evian, it’s better,” she added.
On Tuesday, the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate announced that it banned the 37 year old from performing over her “unjustified mockery of our dear Egypt”.
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-41995932
Evian is crap. Drink Bucovina.
I would image that drinking directly from the Nile would be a good way to prep for a colonoscopy.
Well, my advice to the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate is that they film themselves each drinking a quart of Nile water.

The Faculty Senate at Montana State University voted overwhelmingly Wednesday to table a controversial proposal to create a new economics research center funded by a $5.7 million grant from the Charles Koch Foundation.
Professors voted 24-5 to table the proposal, after Jessi Smith, psychology professor and faculty senator, argued that more time was needed to collect data on Koch-funded research centers elsewhere in the nation.

Opponents argued then that the billionaire oilmen Koch brothers are using academic grants to promote an anti-government, anti-regulation agenda, to co-opt universities and convert students to an ideology that’s opposed to government programs like climate change action, the Affordable Care Act and public education. The “tainted” grant would compromise the integrity of MSU, critics charged.
Those evil, evil KochBros, tearing asunder the very fabric of civilized life. They want to wipe their billionaire asses with the Social Contract. Left unchecked, the Kochs will strip mine for coal in downtown Bozeman.
How dare they try to expand MSU!
“No fair – we already co-opted the universities fair and square!”
I noticed Koch Industries is supporting NPR now. They have to announce it at least a couple of times every morning. I giggle when I think of how much they must hate that.
They should have started doing it years ago. But it won’t mean shit if you ask me, they don’t actually care how much David Koch contributes to PBS programming or other charitable contributions.
Oh I know it’s pissing up a rope, but it’s still funny.
I’d hazard a guess that +50% of proggies don’t understand that Koch isn’t pronounced as “cock”
David Koch has been a sponsor of the PBS Nova program for quite a while.
“Opponents argued then that the billionaire oilmen Koch brothers are using academic grants to promote an anti-government, anti-regulation agenda, to co-opt universities and convert students to an ideology that’s opposed to government programs like climate change action, the Affordable Care Act and public education. In other words, MSU needs ideological purity, one that conforms to a statist agenda. Is there anyone less intellectually curious than an academic?
I love how they just casually throw in opposing the ACA, a hugely divisive law not even a decade old as horrid wrongthink. They’re not even trying to hide being partisan hacks.
They don’t want to fund a research center that might come up with the wrong results, eh?
SETTLED SCIENCE!!!!
Opponents argued then that the billionaire oilmen Koch brothers
Oilmen is a bit of a stretch. Their closest connection to being oilmen is being in the refining and pipeline businesses. That seems a bit of a stretch to get to “oilmen”.
“Cyberbullying’s chilling trend: Teens anonymously target themselves online, study finds
Cyberbullying is not a new phenomenon. But an alarming number of teenagers are anonymously posting mean things online — about themselves.
About 6% of kids from the ages of 12 through 17 have bullied themselves digitally, according to research conducted by Sameer Hinduja, a professor of criminology at Florida Atlantic University and co-director of the Cyberbullying Research Center.”

Man, squishy independents must make up the bulk of his constituency; it is Wisconsin, after all.
Although I could get behind this:
“To eliminate their double taxation, Mr. Johnson has proposed treating corporations like pass-through businesses. They would pay no corporate tax and their profits would be taxed in the hands of their shareholders at individual rates, just as pass-through income is today. Senate Finance Chairman Orrin Hatch (R., Utah) has discussed similar ideas but hasn’t gained traction among other Republicans.”
I could definitely get behind zero corporate income tax, but pass-through can fucking suck under the right circumstances.
I have suggested the same.
How to do it becomes tricky. Does the owner on last day of fiscal year get all the pass thru tax or does it accrue based on percentage of year you own the stock?
It doesnt matter, the price will adjust to account for that, just like it does for ex-dividend dates.
“We need to slow down,” said Sen. Maria Cantwell (D., Wash.). “I’m being asked by my constituents, ‘What is this?’ and ‘Am I going to be paying $5,000 more?’ and it changes every five minutes practically.”
I thought your constituents liked paying taxes, Maria. What gives?
Something, something. Pass it to see what’s in it…
Will no one spurn the NRA money machine and protect us from the muzzleloader menace?
You can have my blunderbuss when you pry it from my cold, dead hands.

“Police are searching for a suspect wearing buckskin clothing who fled the scene on a dapple gray horse”
If one was interested in getting rid of muzzle loaders, all they would have to do is get rid of muzzle loader season for deer. It’s the only reason anyone owns one.
Well, I shot an elk with a muzzle-loader, and three turkeys.
Ok. muzzle loader season in general. I was thinking too locally. There are no elk here amd we don’t have a muzzle loader season for turkey.
I’ve never heard of a separate muzzleloader season for turkey. Just fit it out with a shotgun barrel and figure out a load.
Protip: dialing in a good shotgun load for a muzzleloader is a long, tedious process.
You’re right, though. Probably 90% of muzzleloader sales are driven by the separate seasons. The elk I shot was in a muzzleloader only unit in Colorado. I used to take my muzzleloader out during the separate deer season in WI, but since it was the week after gun season, the deer were either dead or laying low.
You’d be surprised. I know one guy that shoots muzzleloaders–exclusively. His beef with modern firearms are that they have no personality at all. He caved after a year of arguing and bought a Ruger Single-Six in case of emergency. Yes, he is a absolute nut in every way.
It also allows for owning a smoothbore, muzzle-loading cannon!
Commonsense grapeshot control NOW!
Global climate action must be gender equal
Women bear the heaviest brunt of global warming, and are less empowered to contribute to solutions. A new action plan agreed at the Bonn climate talks aims to reverse this inequality, writes Hilda Heine, Marshall Islands president
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/nov/15/global-climate-action-must-be-gender-equal
The tragic reality of gender and climate is that women, especially women of colour, are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change, but are far less likely to be empowered to cope because they have fewer resources such as power and access to finance and technology. – no data on this offered
Consider the issue of climate finance, where developed countries that have accumulated wealth through the combustion of fossil fuels have pledged aid to developing countries to be spent on climate solutions. In choosing actions to fund, financiers too often default to large, centralised projects, looking more at emissions data and financial rates of return than at social and human impacts. – the point is graft not climate so yeah
A more democratised energy system based on 100% renewables allows for the input from women and promotion of their rights more than a fossil fuel-based economy run by and for the benefit of unaccountable corporations. – good thing stupid does not hurt
Hilda Heine is president of the Marshall Islands – ah an unempowered woman with no agenda beyond helping others
“World ends tomorrow; women, minorities hardest hit.”
That’s funny. I’d think women in the developing world would be the prime beneficiaries of technologies like running water and washing machines, even if the power used to generate them contributed to global climate warming change.

“Johnson stated, as she previously has, that Planned Parenthood clinics have an abortion quota to be met each month.
“Every abortion facility within Planned Parenthood has an abortion quota that they must meet,” said Johnson, explaining that this is “how they make their money.”
She noted that not a single Planned Parenthood in the country provides mammograms, though clinics do dole out birth control pills for young girls. Johnson said this is actually another way to gain clients; the method has a “high human error rate,” she said, and over half of their abortion clients are on such pills when they become pregnant.”

Ultrasound causes abortions? They do those on expectant mothers, you know!
If I ever get kidney stones (still haven’t, knock on wood), I definitely want Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy. You know what I’m sayin’?
A buddy of mine couldn’t get it, supposedly because the stones were too large.
“She noted that not a single Planned Parenthood in the country provides mammograms, though clinics do dole out birth control pills for young girls. Johnson said this is actually another way to gain clients; the method has a “high human error rate,” she said, and over half of their abortion clients are on such pills when they become pregnant.” ”
That is borderline fraud (may not be actual fraud since they are “giving” these pills away).
Eh…the key there is human error rate. The pills are fine and do what they are advertised to do. Problem is that the people who are going to Planned Parenthood for free birth control probably aren’t the most responsible individuals in the first place and can’t stick to the regimen.
Exactly. Hell, when I went to the doctor for my refill last year, the med student who did the exam was shocked that in 12 years I’d had zero pregnancies just on the pill. I told her I pretty strictly followed the instructions, and if I missed a pill would either abstain or use condoms for the next 5-7 days (again, per the instructions). Her response? “Wow. I have trouble consistently remembering to take mine, and regularly have pregnancy scares. I’m amazed you keep up with it that well, I’ve never met anyone who does.” I was dumbfounded. You just take it before you go to bed, it’s easy. And if you know you’re not going to bed until late, you either take the pill before you head out if you’re heading out sometime close to your normal time, or take the pack with you and pop a pill while you’re out. Only time I’ve almost gotten in trouble is when I’ve gotten antibiotics, and forgot to mention being on the pill to the doctor– but you have to live under a rock not to know that most antibiotics interfere with birth control.
*Peaks head out from under a rock* I had no idea antibiotics interfere with birth control. I learned something new today!
Consumers are holding off on buying smart-home gadgets thanks to security and privacy fears
http://www.businessinsider.de/consumers-holding-off-on-smart-home-gadgets-thanks-to-privacy-fears-2017-11?r=US&IR=T
Consumers are uneasy about being watched, listened to, or tracked by devices they place in their homes, consulting firm Deloitte found in a new survey it released Wednesday. Thanks to such discomfort, consumer interest in connected home home technology lags behind their interest in other types of IoT devices, Deloitte found.
“Consumers are more open to, and interested in, the connected world,” the firm said in its report. Noting the concerns about smart home devices, it added: “But not all IoT is created equal.”
Nearly 40% of those who participated in the survey said they were concerned about connected-home devices tracking their usage. More than 40% said they were worried that such gadgets would expose too much about their daily lives.
What I do in my basement, tool shed, and closets stays there, BIG TECH!

“But not all IoT is created equal.”
Right – the usable stuff is insecure and the secure stuff is unusable.
“The Post story may not have intended this point, but the article illuminates the futility of most of the arguments for gun control we see after mass shootings. The gun was not purchased at a gun show, so there was no “gun show loophole” to exploit and the initial purchaser passed the background check, so the tired cry of “universal background checks!” is meaningless here. The existing “universal background checks” are why these young men with criminal records use straw purchasers. And the straw purchasers either do not know or do not care that they are enabling those who will commit shootings in city streets.”

Nor are prosecutors interested in charging them, which maybe explains why straw buyers aren’t worried about the consequences.

It’s an explicit admission of how fragile the foundations of their “of the Top Men, by the Top Men, and for the Top Men” all-government-all-the-time philosophy truly are.
It would be really bad if the masses learned about free markets.

Evidence.
Man, a google search for her sure was nice. Real nice.
Seconded.
Its rare you see an actual sexual assault recorded in a photograph. The leer on Franken’s face is a nice touch.
The concept of unsolicited jug touching has never appealed to me.
Hands off the hooch.
I remember going to the USO Christmas show in 2004 and wondering why the fuck Al Franken was in it.
Lucky by association with his SNL contemporaries.
How’s that bacon Tweet looking now, Al?
Ooooh boy! This is going to be good.
In case anyone was still harboring beliefs that the Roy Moore harassment is anything other than a political hit job.
An R candidate for Senate allegedly did questionable but not even illegal things of a sexual nature 40 years ago, with every indication that what little evidence to support the claims that does exist odds forged, and it gets wall to wall coverage.
Meanwhile, a D candidate for House is ARRESTED for current and ongoing sexual harassment/stalking that there is much more solid evidence to back, and it gets wholly ignored.
If these people didn’t have double standards they’d have none.
The woman who reported Alcon to the police said he sent her messages telling her he loved her and wanted to have children with her and sent her photos of his genitals.
So, there is actually independent corroborating evidence – this isn’t just a he-said, she-said deal.
Here a story about Al Franken being a creep – with collaborating photos.
*corroborating
(sorry)
Also, expect the media to deem this a “local interest” story and to never hear of it again.
We get photos of Dems being sexual harassers and it gets swept under the rug.
We get unprovable allegations of non- establishment Rs being sexual harassers and its national news for weeks, with calls for them to step down or be expelled if they win.
Yeah, this totally isn’t the prog elite telling the plebes to sit down and shut up.
If they sweep this under the rug it would be an admission that they truly do not understand “Trump’s America” and why Trump won the last election. Specifically, that there are elites and there are little people.
Trump came a lot closer than expected to winning Franken’s state of Minnesota. The Democratic Party elite sweeps stuff like this under the rug at their own peril.
The question is, how does the Franken story break out of the journalism memory hole?
If Trump were to tweet that photo, that would do it.
I, for one, am outraged. Franken should resign immediately.
The Mpls Star Tribune is already running it as their top story with a headline in all caps. It’s ultimately a local story. He might actually be done.
Competing bands of highwaymen get into a fight:
I know its been linked before, but the casual admission that they are in this for the money was striking.
This is puzzling:
Which officers? How does the house raid fit in with the street sting? Why did they start fighting at the house?
It sounds like a movie scripted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.
Even as someone who has actually heard of and read about asset forfeiture, I always associated it with taking the supposed assets of a crime rather than thinking of it in terms of the “instrument.” They’ve obviously stretched the definition as far as possible. I mean, at this point, if they could make money stripping you of your clothes when you commit a crime, is there any doubt they would? On second thought, best to not give them any more ideas…
+1 hammering gold teeth out of the jaws of dead jews.
I really wish this incident would have ended in a gun fight.
No dogs around to prime the pump?
I know it would have been funny, watching them panic fire at each other. You have to remember, though, that there is a slight chance one of them might have hit another and then the taxpayers would have to pay for one of those huge parade/funerals. And they’d have to give medals to all the survivors because any cop in a fire fight gets a medal.
Eh, the parade and funeral would still be cheaper than the salary and pension.
If you think this is an uncommon occurrence I have some bad news for you.

To eliminate their double taxation, Mr. Johnson has proposed treating corporations like pass-through businesses. They would pay no corporate tax and their profits would be taxed in the hands of their shareholders at individual rates, just as pass-through income is today.
Isn’t that pretty much how “non-profits” work?
Non-profits don’t distribute anything to their shareholders (that’s really the difference between profits and non-profits). In fact, many don’t even have shareholders or owners at all. If they do, its usually another non-profit, so the top of the food chain in that organization is a corporation that essentially owns itself.
Depends on the type of non-profit you’re talking about. Cooperatives are owned by their members and pay out their profits as patronage capital.
I think Brooks is comparing shareholders under this scheme with highly compensated employees of non-profits. Although there would still remain the distinction that shareholders and owners in for-profits could sell their stake.
I think the bigger question is what constitutes taxable profit for the shareholders? Is it only dividends or do they have to pay taxes on the company’s profits even if they don’t get a payout that year?
I guess if it’s being compared to pass through income then they’re saying it would have to be realized as income for it to be taxed.
I eagerly look forward to the tax scandals this is going to lead to.
I think the bigger question is what constitutes taxable profit for the shareholders? Is it only dividends or do they have to pay taxes on the company’s profits even if they don’t get a payout that year?
I think the proposal would be to tax all profits to the owners (presumably at their individual rates), rather than have a corporate income tax. Pretty much the way partnership taxation works now. It would mean corporations would pretty much have to distribute enough of their profits every year to cover the tax hit.
The flip side would be that shareholders of corporations that have losses would be able to take those losses on their income tax returns as well.
The potential for financial shenanigans is boggling. Imagine the mess this would make of mutual funds, for example.
A lot of simplification would have to go on, because pass thru entities today aren’t a single number. But with some simplification, it wouldn’t be any different than taxing dividends. The number gets reported to the shareholder and the IRS. Put it on the form.
In case of mutual funds, they would combine the paperwork all together, then report a single number to each of the shareholders of the fund.
The issue I see is that corporate fiscal years don’t line up with calendar years that are used for individual tax reporting. I guess if each reports at end of fiscal year, then you include the gains in the calendar year that the EOY date occurred. So if some company’s fiscal year ended Jan 31, 2018, those gains would go into 2018 tax year and get paid in April 2019.

“In an interview with BuzzFeed News published on 15 November, Josh Rivers apologised for a series of racist, misogynistic, and ableist tweets. Later that day he was suspended, and on Thursday his employment was “terminated with immediate effect”.
Decades of white-run, white-owned, monocultural LGBT magazines had come to an end in October when Gay Times announced its new editor would be Rivers, who, as a mixed-race British-American, was the UK’s first BAME editor of a gay men’s magazine.
The news was greeted ecstatically, not least because Gay Times, founded in 1984, attributed the appointment to a desire to “best serve the magazine’s diverse and culturally inquisitive audience.” Rivers, 31, promised “a monthly journal that speaks to the vast and varied lived experiences of our community – in its entirety.”
This, many hoped, could mark a new beginning of inclusivity, where sexual racism, body fascism, ableism, and other forms of oppression permeating gay media and beyond could be challenged. Say goodbye to the flip book of white abs and white pecs.
But while researching Rivers – previously the magazine’s marketing manager – following an invitation to interview him, BuzzFeed News found several dozen tweets between 2010 and 2015 that would shock many people.”

I genuinely thought this was going to just end on the note of “yay! Whitey is out and darky is in! Mission solved!” But then they throw that curveball because its not enough to have darker skin anymore, now you have to have darker skin and have been 100% pure PC for your entire life. It’s kind of like how its not enough to be gay anymore. If you’re gay and white and male, holy fuck you might as well be Hitler! Remember the good old days when you could just be black and gay and have a British accent and everyone would just assume you were always right and 100% PC? Yeah, I remember 2014 too.
Purity must be achieved by any means necessary!! These people are insane.
That being said, some of the stuff he said on twitter was pretty vulgar. Stop using twitter, everyone, it’s just going to backfire on you some day. No matter how you feel now, every 5 years you will look back on yourself and think about how stupid and ignorant you were 5 years ago.
Funny thing is, I remember my dad telling me that when I had a website in college (this was around 1996-97) that consisted mostly of extremely profane rants about the (many, many) people I hated. “You’re going to graduate and start applying for jobs soon – if I found this, you don’t think an employer will???”

Believe it or not, a large part of the problem can be attributed to the ADA. Crew members by law are strictly prohibited from asking questions regarding service animals other than whether the animal is in fact a service animal and about what task the animal performs.
https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm
As you might imagine, a lot of less than scrupulous people are taking advantage of this to get free airfare for their pets.

The actual rules say the following:
With the usual disregard for elementary drafting principles, they don’t actually define service animal.
I’ll bet you anything the airline didn’t ask for the documentation. Not only that, they could easily have denied it in the cabin because it was way too big to not block aisle access. They’ve basically laid down and given up. The rules actually contain a discussion of how to vet freakin’ horses who passengers want to bring into the cabin of the aircraft, fer chrissake.
Non-profits don’t distribute anything to their shareholders (that’s really the difference between profits and non-profits).
True. I was really thinking in terms of earnings only being taxed when paid out as salary.

Communist countries seem to be prime breeding grounds for intestinal worms for some reason. Toilets in Eastern Europe used to have this weird pedestal cast into the middle of the bowl that served to elevate the stool a bit before being flushed. It also meant that the turds wouldn’t become submerged in water upon touchdown, so try not to think about what taking a dump in one of these things smelled like.

okay, he’s touching her plate carrier where her breasts would be but it’s obvious he’s posing for a joke. i can’t jump on the bandwagon for this picture or for making really awful inappropriate jokes about Lesley Stahl. and do we force resignations for kissing someone. and that’s one of those he said/she said b/c he’s denying her version of events. shit. now i’m just flat out conflicted about everything.

And NOW the press will cover his case
And we’re done here.
Trips to Pedo Island for everyone!
From the USA Today article on it:
What a smarmy little shit.
And deadlocked on all counts. That reeks of a political hold-out vote.
Humming Amazing Grace…
He’s a deeply moral man, a God-fearing man and I see nothing cynical here at all.
Grace is a really hot 13 year old Dominican?
Yep. Only take one Team Player
Mistrial declared
the photo was supposed to be a funny joke.
A “ham-fisted attempt at humor” you say? Not acceptable.
LYNCH HIM.
Aargh! On one hand, I sort of agree with you that doing something that stupid shouldn’t be a lynching offense.
But, but, but, it is Al Franken! I want to wallow in the hypocrisy. Let me have this, because he is such a smug jerk.
And if we can demand that Roy Moore not be a Senator because he has an underage girl thing, can’t we say Franken should be banned because he has some twist about molesting sleeping women?
And NOW the press will cover his case
EXONERATED. Those meritless right wing smears against noble Senator Menendez were completely disproven and refuted.
that NORK soldier had so many parasites, it complicated the surgery necessary to save his life.

“We discovered parasites that are simply not found in people in this country,” he explained, “I haven’t seen them in my 20 years as a doctor except in textbooks.”
^there’s a video in the story showing doctors lifting long worms out of his gut.
so definitely watch during lunchtime.
Suddenly I want noodles….
Always get your pets, and North Korean defectors, dewormed.
Christ on fire, it’s worse than even we imagined. And these are the military, which gets better treatment than the common rabble.
Hand to god I’ll join the invasion if we go for it. This country cannot continue to exist.
China orchestrated the military coup in Zimbabwe. Maybe they’re gearing up for something similar in North Korea.
Link?
I saw the telegraph speculating but had nothing solid.

What a fascinating story. I hope he recovers so he can talk about life in the NORK Army and what made him run.
FUCK.
Minnesoda Supreme Court rules that Gov. Mumbles does have the right to line item veto the legislature’s budget.
In our last session, Gov. Mumbles had some buyer’s regrets after agreeing to some compromises in the budget. In retaliation he zeroed out the Legislature’s budget in order to make them come back to the negotiating table. Legislature sued and today they lost.
I can’t believe this ruling can stand.
If I were the GOP, my starting point would be to zero out the budget for the executive branch. Or at least the Governor’s mansion.
if there’s no budget authority, then they can’t do the work. i’m assuming the governor caught all sorts of flack for shutting down govt.
Oh no, they had just finished the last session, so no need to shut down.
It also came out that they had a bunch of money in reserve they could use if they weren’t spending it on tickets to the State Fair and other similar important activities.
But, but, but, it is Al Franken! I want to wallow in the hypocrisy. Let me have this, because he is such a smug jerk.
That was a reference to the story yesterday about Franken’s moralistic posturing about Judge Willett’s tweets. The “ham-fisted attempt at humor” (more or less) was Willett’s reply to a question from Franken.
*If anybody knows about ham-fisted attempts at humor, it’s A fekkin Franken.
Just Tweetered this.

Zero his security budget. Make him pay his State Troopers out of pocket.

Does N K have any worthwhile mineral deposits? Those Chinamen are sticklers for value-for-money.
Apparently…

I have a bit of a dilemma.
I was laid off from my job because of budget cuts, which generally qualifies me for unemployment benefits.
However, I will be out of work for less than a month.
The same people “against” whom (don’t know if that’s the right word) I would file for unemployment, are the exact same people who have placed me in my upcoming job (by a strange set of coincidences).
I have more than enough money in the bank to live until I get my next paycheck.
Do I file for unemployment? On principle I should. But politically-speaking, I’m hesitating. I don’t want to cause any problems right out of the gate with the people that trust me enough that they hired me without an interview.
Can the process of filing to receiving the benefit take place within a month? If its greater than that it seems like a waste of time.
I doubt that it would be that quick. I’d probably be back on the job by the time I receive my first gubmint check.
Then I wouldn’t do it. Finances are very personal and you can probably just say as much if they even bother asking.
Did they give any severance pay?
I worked for 2 weeks after being laid off, which I guess could count as some kind of severance.
It’s there for a reason, and you’ve been paying for it. Flip side, it wouldn’t be ethical for them to hold it against you either.
I wouldn’t.
it takes a little while to get that first check.
you know you already have a job, and can make it till then (don’t spend too much though!)
even though you paid in, i think there’s some decent argument for principle in this situation.
id you didn’t have new work lined up? I’d say 100% yes.
If*** not id.
This is my thinking. And I would have filed if the people that hired me for my new gig were different than the people that hired me for my last gig. But it’s literally the exact same. Exact same company, exact same recruiter.
It’ll take too long, there are weird interpersonal and professional concerns considering that you’re going back to the same company via the same recruiter – just treat it like a little mini stay-cation. No need to complicate things.
That juice ain’t worth the squeeze.
How is Thomas Massie so awesome?
