Happy Tuesday — I’m back to work, but my kids are back to school, so I feel great! Today I am writing documentation, and I am still happy to be at work. MDMA is a helluva chemical.
Corrections officer — probably a relation of Payton Manning — arrested for sex with inmate. See left.
Turkeys Play Chicken with Trump over Spending. I hope they remain at an impasse.
OMWC disappointed. I want to know if this was a bug or if it just left “in the house” off the end. With two toddlers, “here’s a lollipop each, I have to go help mommy with something in the bedroom” works for the latter. I mean, so I am told. Or try this AI-created lullaby.
My spidey-sense says this is not going to have a happy ending.

Hard to believe I missed this obvious song for so long.
For sure his kid.

That might be a sixhead!

Me too. Finally some old man music I like.
I was a teenager with an older brother when this was released.
I was ahead of many of my peers when it came to cool music.
He saw ZZ TOP for $.50 at Sun Valley Dance Hall in Victoria and Hendrix in Shreveport, LA.
Back in the day.
I was until they traded Bernie Federko.
Gooooooo BLUES!

You cannot effectively punch in hockey gloves. So your indication that you wish to engage in fisticuffs is to shrug off/drop your gloves, and assume a fighting stance. It is almost exclusively mutual combat, one vs one. If more wish to fight, they pair up with someone and go at it.

Boob fact: Breasts can swell up to a full cup size during orgasm. It is not understood why.
Boob fact: Breasts are actually modified sweat glands. Does that make your sweaty balls good in cereal?
No, not even if you’re a horrible mutant that no longer has normal sweat.
Boob fact: Those into erotic lactation (yes, it’s a thing) will sometimes take the drug Domperidone, a potent dopamine antagonist, to induce lactation. In large enough doses, it can even cause male lactation (also a thing).

Quite often it will get you somewhere.

#3 is mentally retarded, right?
Does it matter?
And if so, how?
Large breasts don’t make women less intelligent. They make men less intelligent.
In her case, it’s the obviously extra chromosome that makes her less intelligent.
HM, every once in a while, your humor hits me square on. I can’t stop laughing at this one!
Soooo…would?
If you’re hard, find a retard.

1. Mom’s boyfriend
2. Trailer
No, this is not going to have a happy ending.
Why is it always mom’s boyfriend or dad’s new wife? It’s never mom’s new hubby or dad’s girlfriend.
Disabled child as well. That’s another signal, unfortunately.
DAMN that’s depressing. Thank God, Q provides boobs to lighten the mood
Yeah I hate to say it, I mean there is always the oddball case like Elizabeth Smart where it really was a stranger abduction but the facts of this case end up being boyfriend killed the girl either while drunk, when angry, or to cover up molestation with about a 50/50 split on whether mom knew about it and is covering up for him.
Unfortunately, Mom thinking that the only thinking keeping her boyfriend from putting a ring on it is because of the kid isn’t exactly unheard of either.
I hate unproductive sick time. I sit around, feel miserable and think of everything I should be doing.
Better than pseudo-productive sick time, where you leave a meeting remembering that you said things and that deadlines were involved but recalling no details whatsoever.
What about reproductive sick time?
Yeah. I know I promised to do something, but I can’t remember what or when. That’s a bad feeling.
Sorry you’re not feeling well.
not sure how accurate, but the claim is that the last test the NK’s did puts the missiles range past DC.
That sounds like a question on my college physics final.
Huh…one way to drain the swamp.

What?
And kill TK. 🙁
Head for the underground lair!
So, from what I’ve heard, it had a flight time of almost an hour, but only went 600 miles?
Sounds legit.
600 miles downrange. Does not say how high it went

I continue to apologize for thinking that he couldn’t possibly be worse than Klinsmann.
Never go back is my philosophy. He had his time. It’s like Italy. Lippi’s name keeps coming up. He had his moment in 2006 and failed miserably in 2010. Getting him back is a panic move (great soccer tactician notwithstanding).
USA made that mistake in my view.
He was good 20 years ago. You can be forgiven.

The phrase “with your kids in the house” is still ambiguous; “while” works better.
I am not a robot!
‘with your kids while still in the house’?
Does it really matter where you have sex with your kids?
Is this an “eat shoots and leaves” situation?
He added that authorities interviewed the child’s mother and her live-in boyfriend. “It’s entirely premature to try to determine what happened.”
Alex Woods, Mariah’s biological father, told WCTI that he has suspicions about the mother’s story.
“Someone just walked right up in there, grabbed the 3-year-old out of the bed and she didn’t cry, she didn’t scream?” he said. “Nobody heard anything? Four people in the house, two adults and two kids someone just comes up and snatches the baby and walks out?”
we’ve been here before. dad’s probably thinking about abducting that live-in boyfriend and cutting off fingers until he gave the location of the body.

What could possibly go wrong?
How long until one of those “wellness checks” that FB calls on its own ends up with the cop shooting the suicidal person?

I have 10 weeks.
Wait until they start sending SWAT teams for not having a FB account.
Before new years day.
I’m looking forward to the big, fat lawsuits.
So Facebook is going to start SWATing people. Great.
It hasn’t happened already?
Lemme guess, at a certain point some of these “troubling posts” will involve people using worrisome language regarding prominent political figures, or perhaps certain groups of people. There was a related article in the wsj last month about Alexa (Amazon’s device). Apparently, Amazon has a fair number of people that talk to Alexa about severe depression and committing suicide. To their credit, Amazon has stated that they will not act on the customer’s behalf by calling the police. Instead they are trying to walk this line of being neutral while cautiously supplying information that might help.

Yes, but I don’t use Siri and the phone is supposed to prompt for permissions to use the microphone anyway. The stories I read here and there seem like FUD to me.
My father always buys me gifts that have absolutely no thought put into them. He also is a prog that very much loves the state (as long as the right top man is in charge).

There’s a lot of talk about bitcoin and cryptocurrencies lately, including on this site. Several people here have asked for what basically amounts to primer. While I would never say I’m a great expert on the topic I do know a lot and wanted to share some of what seen/learned from my observations over the years.
Bitcoin are unlocked by computers solving increasingly complex math problems. He who solves one unlocks a “block” of bitcoin and receives a commission whenever those blocks are sent to from one wallet address to another once several other nodes (who have mined other blocks) confirm that they have seen the transaction. A lot of transactions can strain this network and slow it down if the owners of the nodes don’t keep them upgraded.
I bought in to bitcoin very early. Like, single digit prices early. A friend of mine who worked for the FBI told me about it back in 2011 when he was investigating Silk Road. Being a good libertarian the concept of magical internet money used to buy drugs on the dark web naturally intrigued me, so I invested a few hundred bucks thinking I might give that a shot. Being a nerd though I did my homework first and was super sketched put, so those bitcoin ended up in a wallet file I left on a cloud server for many years.
Over the years bitcoin periodically surged, then plummeted. It raced up to $100 and fell back to $20 for years. It raced up to $1k then fell back to the $200s for years. Each time its followed a fluctuation pattern, one that looks identical to the current run up to $10k we’re seeing now.
Cryptocurrencies are subject to substantial manipulation by those who originally mined large amounts. Called whales, they create “walls” which they use to move the price in a specific direction, similar to how the media controls the “Overton window”, to run it up then cash out. If you try to day trade and you aren’t a whale, you are very likely to lose a lot of money without immense self control, which day traders usually lack. This facilitates the whales moving the price points.
The overall effect runs up the price to psychological buy-in points so the whales can make bank off the FOMO experienced by public watching massive price increases. Other crypto aren’t immune, as whenever their price ratios against bitcoin fall below certain levels whales will sell bitcoin into that other crypto to keep the prices in line.
Most people investing have no idea how any of this works. Blockchain cryptocurrencies are a great development, but people who haven’t paid very close attention over the many years its been around just see the massive price surges, get FOMO, then dump money into it without realizing how heavily manipulated it is. Developments like seizures from various exchanges, or outright theft, drive up the price by artificially restricting the supply, which triggers run ups as well which dupes more people into investing in each time before the price returns to equilibrium.
They’re great investments over the long term because the value of the underlying technology is solid, but realize what you are buying: ownership of a distribution network. That has great value, but massive price run UPS like were seeing right now are absolutely bubbles, which will leave new investors holding the bag when the collapse occurs.
Sorry for the long post, but that’s my $0.02.
This is great. If you want to turn it into a longer post, I personally want to know more. submit@glibertarians.com

Thanks! I could have written more but didnt want to be a space hog. If anyone is interested in something specific I may elaborate on those points for a longer post.
Submit the article please.

That said, definitely submit something. I know enough about it to tell anyone who asks that I don’t know enough about it.

good primer, including the warning about the whales and their spoofy bot wash trading walls
Thanks for the write up. My brother keeps telling me to buy in.
Thanks for that. I had put off getting into it when it was in single digits thinking “I’ll have an extra hundred bucks laying around soon, I’ll do it then” and never did. It’s quite depressing now, considering in some alternate universe there’s an Archie that retired this week.
If you had to pick an alternative to Bitcoin what would it be?
In between that universe and this one there’s a proliferation of Archies losing their shit at how much bitcoin they stupidly lost between that purchase and today’s insane highs.
I stupidly lost a substantial majority my initial investment learning the lessons I described above and more the hard way. Had I retained my initial investment I’d be sitting very pretty, but even with my massive losses I’ve still made a 100,000% return on investment. That’s unheard of – not even drug cartels make that much return.
Ive gotten that question a lot. Bitcoin is ideal for a lot of reasons, and its true flaws apply to missy cryptos. ETH gets a lot of press but I’ve yet to see any major reason to favor it. Really the answer depends on what you’re going for. I’ve considered creating a private crypto for my family to teach the kids about economics (paying them for chores and charging rent, pegging its value to the dollar and buying things for them that they repay with that currency, etc) but right now there’s no way in hell I’d do much else with them right now other then SELL SELL SELL.
Thanks for that, maybe a Full Article?
I have to say that Trump’s entertainment value is far greater than I dreamed. Watching Elizabeth Warren quaking in rage over the Pocahontas jab and Nancy and Chuck getting their panties in a bunch over his tweet (which was entirely accurate) tells me that they know he is right. The arrow only stings if it hits the target. Every day is like Christmas with this guy.
Relax Lizzy. Those high cheek bones are gonna collapse under the strain of your ire!
Literally shaking.
Yes, which made me laugh out loud and point.
I loathe Elizabeth Warren. I hate her guts. I hope she dies a long, slow, agonizing death from ovarian cancer.
What makes her worse than any of the other vile pinkos?
Oh, I don’t think HM hopes they don’t die from cancer…
In her case, ambition.
May her cancer be her equal.
Actually, I would say she’s worse. She’s the sort of vile turd who would damn a person for wanting to keep the few dollars they legitimately earn while showering herself with publicly funded largesse. There’s the obvious case of her declaring herself a Native American. I’m not particularly comfortable with the notion of affirmative action. But, there’s something genuinely vile about someone who would insist that it should exist to help minorities and then out-and-out lie about being a minority to get the advantages that they claimed were unjustly denied to those very minorities.
But there’s other issues. She got paid nearly $200k in one year for participation in a TARP panel that she herself referred to as “a part-time job”. There’s also the fact that she made big bucks in the flipping foreclosures racket before blaming banks for all of the country’s financial problems.
Elizabeth Warren is an utterly terrible excuse for a human being. People’s avarice, even many of those she so loudly damns, is often tempered by some sense of fair play, some sense of propriety. Warren is the sort who will loudly denounce their avarice while taking advantage of the public in ways that make them look like pikers.
What makes her worse than any of the other vile pinkos?
1) She’s a true believer rather than an opportunist. See her Bankruptcy Law textbook for plenty of examples. It’s 500 pages of poor downtrodden (fictional) minorities getting assfucked by evil corporations and Republicans.
2) She has the Ivy League pedigree that gets the TEDramble and I fucking love science-flavored evangelism crowds’ panties wet.
3) She has the New England smug asshole schtick down pat
4) Ideologically she’s the Rand Paul of the left. She’s not “on the reservation” (pun intended), but plays by the perverse premises she calls “principles.”
5) She’s pretty much the 21st century version of Woodrow Wilson, which means that the worst is going to come once she’s elected president.
They’re pissed because he put their names in quotation marks. Seriously, go find the tweet. There’s nothing else in it that could be considered offensive.
(shudder)
there’s “in the future we will all have giant brains” big-foreheads, then there’s whatever that is. which is something like, “Down Syndrome, without the cute”

also, this:
i’m pretty sure according to my back-of-napkin Social Justice-intersectional-rules-of-oppression and stuff that you can’t consent when you’re in a relationship with someone who wields immediate power over you. What exactly would you charge the inmate with? “consenting to being raped by his guard?” Misuse of county resources?
Prostitution.
“Failure to report abuse in violation of PREA”
He’s male; of course he had the power in this relationship.
Surveying without a license?
As far as I know, banging an officer wasn’t an actual crime that an inmate could be charged with, but it was an institutional rule violation called “establishing an inappropriate relationship”. The women who fucked around with staff usually got a week in segregation (which is not the same as solitary) so no big deal really.
That’s how it is in the Ohio prison system, anyway.
I think the implication here is that the inmate doing the nasty with her is the one getting the items . If that’s the case, there may be charges for the contraband.
The headline says it all and the photos are nauseating.

Well, until they can start forcibly vaccinating the anti-vaxers they’ll have some issues. Obviously the de-minimus answer is just let it be written into deeds or mortgages etc. I might even be willing to put up with an HOA that required vaccinations. Nobody out lobbying for that change though.

One of my coworkers was almost shot by some random dude on the street today. He’s not a small guy and the shooter was less than 10 feet away. He’s quite lucky. I’m told the bullets were inches away from hitting him.
So he pulled his gun and wasted the dude, right?
Right?
Nope. He was unarmed.
Fun trivia, this guy used to work at Smith & Wesson as a CNC operator.
“That weren’t one of mine!”
what the fuck?
Dunno. He was in a not so nice neighborhood in Philly at the time.
So… anywhere in Philly, then?
Personally, I avoid the whole city. I had another coworker who was actually shot in Philly many years ago. That doesn’t really count though, he wasn’t working at the time and was trying to score crack late at night. He caught a .25 to the calf and survived. His crack habit did him more harm than the .25
25 auto is about as dangerous as a slingshot.
It is indeed the most worthless caliber. .22lr is more effective.
Actually 25 auto would be great in a small semi-auto carbine for shooting squirrels. Probably a lot of fun too.
That’s a great idea, Suthen. It’s pretty anemic for a pistol round but might be half decent in a rifle.

too bad 25 auto is freaking expensive and difficult to find now. It’s an obsolete cartridge, but not everyone knows it yet. Let it die.

Why can’t we be like Europe?
In the United States, 42 percent of retail workers earn a low hourly wage — defined as less than two-thirds of the median wage across the economy. In Denmark, only 23 percent of retail workers earn so little; in France, only 18 percent. And labor turnover in the American retail industry is twice as high as it is in Britain and the Netherlands.
Blah blah blah things are better in Europe because they don’t have unfettered dog-eat-dog kkkapitalism.
And now, the bad news:
Europe’s choices do entail costs. Notably, American consumers benefit from the more intense competition among retailers in the United States.
Huh.
Oh. Of course it is that commie rag.
My first thought was “Jacobin”?, but then I hovered over and remembered that whole fawning “Red Century” thing the old grey lady’s been doing this year.
Yep. No mask in sight. The day after they wrote a love letter to Kim Jong un…sorry, Porkchop….we get a story about NorK ghost ships washing up on Japan with rotting corpses on them.
What is the actual median in each company in the same currency?
also we tax them less here.
What percentage of each country’s perfectly healthy workforce is on the dole?
In other words, 19% of U.S. retail workers would be unemployed in Denmark, 24% in France.
Progress!
I wonder, how much does this ‘median wage’ thing they’re quoting differ between these varied locations?
Probably quite a bit.
My high school history teacher’s family was from Sweden (and yes hot, we opened up all the classroom windows during winter). She told us that whenever her Swedish relatives would visit, they would immediately head to Sears or Kmart and just starting throwing Levi’s into the shopping cart. “Notably, American consumers benefit from the more intense competition among retailers in the United States.”
Why yes.
Anyone who lived in Southern California during the giant UFCW grocery store strike knows this. When all of those workers were on strike, guess where they had to shop? Yep. Walmart.
Not, I can’t help but notice, defined by some sort of normalized purchasing power.
You know there is 2 ways to achieve that statistic.
One of them is to pay retail workers more
The other is to pay retail workers less
Now which do you think is actually happening in Europe?
I’m dipping my head into the turd infested cesspit that is the comments so you don’t have to:
This was in reply to someone that posted about being happy in her retail job and having the ability to afford relatively modest luxuries. Can you imagine working with a sad, bitter individual like this? How utterly useless do you have to be to see someone else’s success and immediately assume that it can be attributed entirely to luck? It reminds me of when the in-laws called me “naturally talented”. You know what? Fuck you for casually dismissing every ounce of the blood and sweat that I traded over the years in return for my talent.
Many European countries have no minimum wage set by law, and they all have significantly lower corporate taxes than us.
So by all means – let’s be more like Europe!
Yes, it is. It worked wonders for some depression I had in my 20s. Hope it is helping you too.
I suffer from some pretty severe depression and anxiety disorder. It pisses me off that I don’t have access to MDMA (or psyclobin, both of which apparently work). I wouldn’t know where to find it and even if I did my anxiety would prevent me from actually buying it.
(For the record, I haven’t gotten to trying the CBD oil yet, mostly because I haven’t been able to get out due to being super-busy at work)
You just drive to a bad neighborhood, get out, and walk around muttering “drugs, drugs, drugs” until somebody approaches you.
Sometimes that might work, and sometimes you might just get shot in the calf.
In which case the mission becomes more urgent.
A guy.
Never had it, but it sounds great. I think I’ll pop down to Walgreens after work and get me a – oh, wait. I can’t do that, because our parents in Washington think it’s bad for me.
Its life changing stuff, especially if you experience depression… so I hear. I also hear it works best when taken in close proximity to others who are also partaking, effectiveness increasing more or less linearly with the number of people under the influence nearby.

Wait until the feminists start bitching about that.
Maybe that will lead a few people to consider why other drugs should be OTC. Every person I’ve ever brought up the idea of “make everything OTC” to seem as though the thought had never entered their mind.

Wasn’t the stock market being up Tony’s absolute proof of how well the Obama economy was doing?

I dunno if Tony ever pulled that one, but it was one of Buttplug’s favorites. Might’ve been bandied about by amsoc (the original one), too.

Wow.
“Coach McAdoo told me I could continue to start while Geno and Davis are given an opportunity to play,” Manning said. “My feeling is that if you are going to play the other guys, play them. Starting just to keep the streak going and knowing you won’t finish the game and have a chance to win it is pointless to me, and it tarnishes the streak. Like I always have, I will be ready to play if and when I am needed. I will help Geno and Davis prepare to play as well as they possibly can.”
That is 2 New York teams this season that abruptly and without warning benched above average QB’s for no more apparent reason than to give tryouts to their backups.

Gentle animals?
Free contest. Predict the response of one of my prog friends to a post I put on Facebook about a dumb policy at my local DMV. Go on, I dare you, you’ll never guess.
______ is the price we pay for civilization.
“See, Raven, this is why we should privatize nearly every government function!”
“It’s for your own good!”
Wait, I missed the you’ll never guess part.
“You’re totally right!”
“Without the government, there would be no roads.”
“This is why we have safe Roadz.”
somehow the DMV is provider of roads and safe drivers, even though nothing changes when your license expires and gas tax pays for roads?
Something’s going to change the next time my license expires. I have to go back to the DMV with my passport, 3 other forms of ID, and probably blood and urine samples because the Florida government was too damned weak to tell FedGov to go fuck themselves over Real ID.
Same with NM. I might just opt for the non-ID license. Nowhere I want to fly to badly enough to put up with the TSA.
… Hobbit
That’s actually a tough one. Even my prog friends hate the DMV.
Something about Somalia?
It would help if you told us what the policy was.
“Me at the DMV:
Clerk: can I help you?
Me: I need to change the address on my registration.
Clerk: is it time to renew your registration?
Me: no.
Clerk: you can only change the address on your registration when it’s time to renew.
Me (knowing the answer but curious): and you’ll mail out my renewal notice?
Clerk: correct.
Me: to the address where I no longer live?
Clerk (after brief pause): well, you’ll just have to remember when your registration is due and come in at that time.”
and the retort was funding?????
Yep. I guess his thought process was, with more money, they could provide this service.
we need to double their budget to unlock logic.
You can’t update that online? You can in AZ.
Nope. My Driver’s License I can update on line.
On the other side of things, in MD, it is a citable offense not to notify the MVA (our DMV equivalent) of an address change within 30 days.
Holy shit. Our version of the DMV isn’t that retarded.
In America, the DMV has long been known as the 7th layer of hell, and is synonymous with incompetent and unresponsive bureacracy
Primus wrote a song about it.
the DMV has probably created more libertarians than Ron Paul
Cali it’s ten days
“I just chopped a guy’s dick off with a pair of garden shears and I’m on my way over.”
ALOL
The suspense is killing me!
For those of you who guessed, “they don’t have enough money” you win:
“Now to be fair, legislators set the budget for how much funding DMV gets. If they can’t hire enough people, they can’t process longer lines. Don’t blame the DMV staff or even their boss; blame who controls their budget.”
Boulder DMV: 14 or so stations. 2-3 open. 15 employees all day. the average wait time is well over two hours. sometimes they will open the 4th station up if the seating area fills up and people are in a line out the door to take a number. That’s every single day. no matter what day or hour.
My local DMV actually runs pretty smooth, crowded, but they run the line ups well, and I always make an appointment,
The NYC DMV was OK last time I went but the post office OMG…
That’s because nobody owns a car
Still have to go there to get an ID
Now, to be fair, if filing a change of address is so onerous that it requires a dedicated budget item in 2017, then the entire DMV should be fired, its buildings razed, and the Earth salted, and the money that would have been spent on their paychecks thrown into a pit and lit on fire, because that is frankly a better use of the resources.
I’m still lost at how registration is a yearly thing.
“hey I own this.”
“oh, okay. tell me again next year for the same price.”
“what, you lose the piece of paper after a year?”
“oh no, we know you still have it. we’ll just send you a bill for even more.”
put it in a file cabinet. the guy who buys it from me will tell you it’s his when he buys it.
In addition, I don’t get why you have to change the title when changing states. The registration, sure. But the title? I didn’t buy the car in this state, I bought it in another state, the title just shows I acquired it legally, there’s no reason to get a new one.
“I, for one, am glad that cars are not totally unregulated the way guns are.”

I was gonna guess this
Wow, $19.99–on paperback!
I know, what a great deal, right? Anyone?
It hit me like a brick. I have an employee who is 19 and she heard me say in the office to a couple of employees, ‘I need to get a Bazooka Joe turtle neck whenever I come in here’ in response to being told the flu and gastro was afflicting the daycare.
She was photocopying stuff, stopped and asked, ‘Who is Bazooka Joe?’
That’s when the brick slammed me off the side of the head.
That’s when the brick slammed me off the side of the head.
That you are too old for a 19yo?
BOOYA!
And then you whipped your dick out?
And then I said bend over, I’ll show you Bazooka Joe.
No gum for her!
Jesus, he is old. I vaguely remember the gum but I had to look up the turtleneck. What’s next, a Nancy and Sluggo reference?
Well, are you going to answer the question, or am I going to have to look it up?
Bazooka Joe turtle neck
Heckuva euphemism there, Brownie!
1st guess: Something to do with an uncircumcised penis and a 19 year old with a brick?
He’s Canadian, uncircumcised is a very educated guess.
Shows what you know. I was born in the 70s and it was popular to snip, snip.
Incidentally, Mort is the guy with the turtleneck.
Whatever, sounds like some on this board have never had the pleasure of eating a stick of gum while reading those Bazooka Joe comics on a lazy summer afternoon and then spitting it out after a few hard chews.

North Korean missiles
Ok, let’s talk about hyperbole here. Our press, and in this case, the UK press have almost been more than a little over the top hysterical. But let’s examine this. They fired this missile somewhere around 200 miles off the coast of Japan. So exactly what the hell does it mean when someone says this could have hit Washington, DC? Tokyo is about 700 miles from Pyongyang, Washington DC is 7000 fucking miles from Pyongyang. Someone had best do their fucking match, not everyone is stupid.
They’re saying that based on the time in flight, about an hour, that it is capable of hitting D.C. with a different trajectory. Imagine lobbing a baseball almost straight up. It lands 15 feet away. Now throw that same baseball with the same force at a 30 degree angle. It’ll go 100 feet.
Ok, now I see where it went 2500 miles high, I completely missed that. It’s going to be interesting when the asshole accidentally lands one of these in China.
I’m more interested in the missile that the Sorks lobbed back. What kind of missile and where did it hit?
Arc. The apogee of the last couple of missiles has been vastly higher than their ones before 2016. Extrapolate from the angles here to see what the max range would be. It’s a format that allows them to test technical range and re-entry without a flight path that takes them in a “risky” direction.
Pictures at this link for comparison: http://www.foxnews.com/world/2017/11/28/north-korea-fires-ballistic-missile-south-korea-officials-say.html
I think the South probably test fired into the ocean again like they did last time – precision guidance, etc.
I had a hard time taking that article seriously after seeing that one the linked stories was “NORTH KOREA’S NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROGRAM HAS GROWN WITH EACH KIM REGIME”. Yes, well, there have only been 3 Kims and it has been 60+ years since the first one took over.
Technically correct. The best kind.
Huh? I was under the impression that their nuclear program didn’t begin until January 21 2017.
Also, is it war time yet? *starts loading mags*
bullshit.
Well duh! If I started loading all my mags when the war started I’d never get done in time.
I had that exact same thought.

No mention there but I am guessing someone is going to jail for hate speech.
So it’s Finally Illegal to be German, damn
I wouldn’t be surprised if you were right. Insane, isn’t it. Saying to people that their very existence is acceptable now constitutes “hate speech” in some quarters. And the funny thing about it is the guys who did this knew the shitstorm it would create. That’s why they chose the most innocuous statement they could think of as a provocation. The people responding just can’t help themselves.
Is it really OK to be white? Isn’t that like whistling at dogs or something?
If you’re a thicc chick, then it’s ok.

I don’t know anything about the group, but the Reconquista Hispanica was not exactly peaceful (nor was the Muslim conquest of Spain, but that doesn’t explain why the Jews were expelled).
I have no idea if hispanicus was declined properly there, but reconquista is not a Latin word (it’s Spanish), so the whole thing is a mess to begin with.

My understanding was that the News were viewed as collaborators for working with Moors. (Although from the Jewish perspective, they didn’t really care either way who was in charge, since they were second class citizens under both Christian and Muslim rulers.)
the News were viewed as collaborators
I’ll never be able to look at Huey Lewis the same way again.
I’m sorry, the card says “Moops”.
Stan’s Favorite Band!
That may have been part of it, but there was also a belief that the Jews were trying to undermine Christians’ belief in Christ as the messiah, and that they all secretly believed in unseemly things written in the Talmud. There were a number of “disputations” where the Jews were forced to defend their beliefs, or a caricature of them, against the allegations of the Spanish state/Catcholic church/whatever you would call the church led by the antipopes.
And wouldn’t you know it, it was quite the handy excuse for taking all their stuff.
How convenient!
Well, to be fair, that’s what most antisemitism is about, anyway.
The Moors were kicked off Iberia in 1492. That’s why the Kingdoms of Castile and Leon finally had enough money to finance Columbus, because they weren’t fighting the reconquesta anymore.
Also, the last Muslim stronghold was, I believe, Granada, which had a large library to help spread knowledge to the ignorant Europeans.
Also, the fun-to-say Cave of Covadonga played a vital role in the reconquesta.
Go ahead, say it. “Cave of Covadonga.” Wasn’t that fun?
I remember 1985 in Germany watching my little exchange sister rooting for the Germans during the Davis Cup and thinking “how gauche!” She’s probably running the AfD now or something.

I’m not saying it was Alien Vikings, but it was Alien Vikings!
I bet those feminists are pissed that the stereotypical white male patriarchy ruined their narrative once again.
This revisionist Easter Island research is kind of pissing me off. These researchers want to uphold the narrative that all “natives” (however they feel like defining that) are close to nature and more enlightened than white people. They just can’t believe that non-white people would trash their island. So they are looking for any kind of evidence they can find to back up this worldview. They literally say “well the origin of the ‘Rapa Nui decimated their own island’ theory is oral history, which is 300 years old at this point and thus unreliable,” and then TURN RIGHT AROUND and 2 items later start crowing that this settlement that was discovered in Canada proves that much older oral history was accurate. Which is it, guys? Oral history is reliable or it isn’t? You can’t have both.
These people dehumanize cultures when they turn them into these perfectly-in-harmony-with-nature-and-each-other caricatures. Humans are humans, okay? There’re assholes everywhere and there always have been.

“In light of the President’s continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN”
Perhaps they could enlighten us about these attacks?
If only Hugo Chavez had the power of mean tweets, he could’ve silenced his opposition so much more effectively.
CNN was fully in the tank for Clinton and acted essentially as an arm of her campaign. Hillary Clinton, the woman who said she was going to shut down news organizations that had no right to exist. But Trump is the one attacking freedom of speech. They dont like being called liars but they just cant seem to stop telling lies.
If they showed up at my Christmas party I would physically throw the bastards out on their asses.
I don’t know, insulting them for a while in front of everyone before throwing them out on their asses sure sounds like fun to me.
Well there was that time he bugged a reporter’s phones and put spyware on their computers to find out the name of her contacts. Plus trying to deny WH press credentials to a news network he didn’t like. Also using the Espionage Act to lock up a record number of whistleblowers. I mean if that stuff isn’t an attack on freedom of the press then what is?
Recently reelected-by-a-landslide mayor knew – a year ago – that the kids he traps in poverty are at danger for contracting lead poisoning, does nothing about it. This and similar outrages lead to a situation so bad that even Pravda can’t sweep it under the rug any longer.

most of the biggest problems in NYC are the ones no one talks about, and about which the NY Times occasionally puts out smoke-screen stories like that, blaming lack of (growing) federal aid, deflecting attention to the origins / authors of the problems, etc. Its like the “schools” thing. Every 10 years there’s a major scandal, and someone promises that “enough is enough” and there will be structural reform, and some deck chairs are shuffled, and some new name given to the revitalization problem…. and then forgotten again for 10 years.
The unholy union of various – often competing – interests that runs this place is really, really difficult to break. Especially with all of the MSM except the NY Post cheering it on.

“Some of these Dem ruled fiefdoms, parts of them anyway, seem like they are overrun with feral humans.”
Seems like? Have you ever been to Baltimore? Today I had a sort of upset stomach at the office and so I walked down to CVS to get some Tums or something. So when I’m going in, I hear someone yelling, but I didn’t pay any attention, because there’s never a time of day or night down there that someone or many someone’s are not yelling. People will be standing like 2 ft from each other and they’re yelling at each other. You never really can tell sometimes if they’re just having a normal conversation or they’re fighting, because no matter which one, they’re yelling. So anyway, I come back out and so obviously the same person, a woman maybe my age, white or hispanic maybe is yelling ‘Fuck you motherfuckers, I said help me! I’m homeless, fuck you, fuck you!’ and so there’re a pretty wide birth around her as her tactic is obviously doing the exact opposite of what it’s supposed to be doing. This is a typical every day thing there. Every.fucking.day, either that or someone is shot/stabbed, robbed, or all 3. I won’t even hang around there later than 5pm anymore and I drive about 10 blocks out of the way to avoid a certain section. Oh, I almost forgot, when I left and was leaving the garage, some blonde woman is chasing her boyfriend or husband whatever, down the street yelling ‘I’ll kill you you motherfucker, kill you’. I’m cornering the end of the block and I’m just hearing ‘kill you, kill you, kill you’. Yes, Democrat controlled cities turn people into fucking uncivilized animals.
I’m going to pour myself a glass of wine and watch another episode of 30 Rock and pretend that society is just my little corner of the world and also that couple of blocks of Manhattan where white people congregate.
NYC certainly isn’t all sunshine and roses but I don’t see anything like that very often. *shrug*
Well, I know that NYC has had some Republican mayors in the last 50 years, as far as I know there hasn’t been one in Baltimore in at least 50 years, and as far as I know it’s impossible for any Republican to be elected to any position in government in the city, it’s 100% Democrat controlled.
Hell, even Koch would be a Republican by today’s standards. I’m hoping the current commie in office is just an aberration.
I come from basketcase cities in upstate NY so I’ve seen the stuff you’re describing. But some combination of factors in NYC seems to be putting the brakes on that shit at least for now.
Giuliani may actually be a Nazi, but he turned that city around.
Time Square circa 1985 was closer to John Carpenter’s vision than to what it is now.
I have not been to Baltimore. Chances are pretty good that will always be true.
Visit Annapolis or Cumberland instead. Or many other interesting places in Maryland that are NOT Baltimore.
That’s purely population density. Pile a bunch of Mountain-Dew-in-your-infant’s-bottle meth-heads from Appalachia in close proximity to one another and you’d see the same shit with the same frequency.
Well, I don’t have wealthy clients in the trailer park, so I don’t care, I don’t have to go there. But Baltimore is a special kind of fucked up for whatever reason, it’s in the top 20 most violent cities, not in the country, but on the planet. That’s fucking crazy.
That reminds me of this joke:
A: “Did you know that 90 percent of auto accidents occur within half a mile of your home?”
B: “Yes.”
A: “Well, why don’t you move?”
The answer to that is in my post. I’m near retirement also, I sure as shit will not be here after that.
Oh, yeah, and I don’t live down there, I commute from out here in the sticks. There are all sorts of urban renewal and ‘live where you work’ programs going on down there. Billions of dollars being spent. The problem is that they’ve had zero success getting crime under control. They couldn’t pay me a million dollars a year to live there.
I did some very stupid things when I lived in Baltimore, like agreeing to go to a hip hop club in the warehouse district with a couple of (((New Yorkers))). The bouncer looked at us like we were nuts, as did everyone else who were all dressed like characters from New Jack City.
That does sound pretty dumb. But I know people with dumber stories of what they’ve done here.
Admittedly, it’s not difficult to make a poor decision in that city.
Like turning down the wrong street when there’s a detour.
Hey! Now just wait a min… eh, nevermind

Sadly he’s a dude, and sadly white and not a Zulu princess, but he was pro-capitalism and very happy about Mugabe’s takedown, so we had a good time anyway.
Unfortunately Mugabe is being replaced with a Mugabe clone. Meet the new boss, any celebration will be short lived.

Uproar over Japan’s brown-hair registry, mandate to dye hair black

A lawsuit by a Japanese high school student has shone a light on the touchy issue of “black hair” policies and brown-hair registries in schools throughout Japan.
An 18-year-old girl brought a lawsuit against the government of Japan’s Osaka prefecture last month for mental anguish after she was repeatedly forced to dye her naturally brown hair black.
According to the lawsuit, the student has been upset about having to dye her brown hair black in junior high school and, when she entered Kaifukan High School in Osaka, her mother asked the school’s administration “to take care not to let the same thing happen in high school.”
Despite these pleas, school administrators began ordering the girl to dye her hair every one to two weeks and, during her second year, every four days. The student soon developed a rash on her scalp and had her hair badly damaged from the constant dying.
Many schools in Japan, where conformity is the norm, according to Reuters, have strict rules about appearance, including hair color, the use of makeup and the length of skirts.
…
The lawsuit alleges that the girl suffered psychological damage from the teasing and punishments she received for having to dye her hair. She once hyperventilated and collapsed after being reprimanded and was also barred from school festivals and class trips because of her natural hair color.
Japanese women wait to cross the road in Tokyo February 22, 2006. Japan is experiencing a case of disappearing blondes. Now fashion has moved on and hairdressers say bleached blonde tresses are going the way of fake tans, although a dark brown tint still seems more popular than natural black.
One teacher purportedly told the girl, “If you don’t dye your hair black, then don’t bother coming to school.” The girl, who has not returned to the high school, eventually had her name removed the school’s rolls and other students were told she had dropped out.

Japan won’t make the same mistake as the US. You let kids have whatever hair color they want and then BAM! school shooting.
I’m still a little confused how all this uniformity is still a thing. I’ve seen plenty of pics from the last 20 years with ganguro styles, scrunchy socks, and all kinds of other crazes (bleached hair, etc) – in school uniforms….do folks only do stuff like that for the weekends or what?
The Japs are getting tired of all this cultural appropriation. JRPGs hardest hit.
Wait a minute… what about Anime? How can a girl have blue, pink, green hair, etc, maybe in combo, if he she can’t even have brown hair? Is their an Anime exempt clause?
Liberal CNN publishes column asking to ban the term ‘fake news’

CNN wants to ban the term “fake news?”
In an opinion piece on the cable news network’s website Sunday, writers Hossein Derakhshan and Claire Wardle called for scrapping the term President Trump has made synonymous with CNN. The duo wrote that use of the term “fake news” is “not only self-defeating, it oversimplifies a very complex problem” and it devalues the expression that has “become meaningless” over the past year.
…
CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker has implemented an anti-Trump programming strategy at the network that was once known for Ted Turner’s bare bones “just-the-facts” approach to journalism. As a result, Trump refers to CNN as “fake news” on a regular basis and mocked the network on Twitter as recently as Monday.
…
CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta has emerged as one of the faces of anti-Trump liberal media, regularly interrupting press briefings with grandstanding and providing personal opinions about the administration on a consistent basis. During a press conference earlier this year, Trump literally pointed at Acosta and said, “You’re fake news.”
The network’s primetime programming is littered with large panel discussions, often featuring numerous liberal analysts against a single quasi-Trump supporter. CNN also airs documentary-style specials aimed to criticize Trump and has several anchors, such as Chris Cuomo and Don Lemon, which have become household names simply for attacking the president on a regular basis.
Trump recently suggested that Americans should have a contest between ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN to determine which news organization is the most “dishonest,” with the winner receiving a “fake news trophy.”
Trump took to Twitter earlier this month to slam Zucker’s network, saying he was “forced to watch” it while on an overseas trip to Asia and the experience reminded him why he dislikes the content with such passion.

Hmm, interesting. I guess they need to ask the government. Oh, yeah, Trump is president and Congress is controlled by the GOP. I guess it’s a big tough shit, CNN.
The sad part is that sites like CNN and the NYT originally started the game new label to refer to sites like Breitbart and infowars. No wonder they hate appropriation.
I am not sure what ‘ban’ means. I do know this; every bit of derision Trump heaps on them is well deserved.

Anti-Trump media makes up fake story about overfeeding fish at Japanese koi pond
http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2017/11/06/anti-trump-media-makes-up-fake-story-about-overfeeding-fish-at-japanese-koi-pond.html

President Trump and Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe carried on an old tradition of feeding carp at a Koi pond in Tokyo when CNN and the rest of the mainstream media decided to twist the narrative to make Trump appear like a buffoon.
Liberal network CNN ran a ridiculous headline, “Trump feeds fish, winds up pouring entire box of food into Koi pond,” complete with a misleading tweet from reporter Veronica Rocha that only shows the Trump dumping the entire box of food. Her footage is conveniently edited to skip Abe doing the same thing.
IN fact, Abe dumped his entire box of fish food into the pond and Trump followed while the Prime Minister of Japan smiled. However, the anti-Trump media has been cropping the video to only show Trump’s actions.
Bloomberg White House correspondent Justin Sink tweeted that Trump and Abe were “spooning fish food into the pond” when Trump “decided to just dump the whole box in for the fish.” The problem with the attempt to paint Trump as an animal-abusing, lazy America is that Japan’s Prime Minister did the exact same thing seconds before.
BuzzFeed News ran a story headlined, “This photo of Trump dumping his carp food in a pond in japan has become a huge meme,” and embedded a series of Japanese tweets mocking the president. The Guardian even ran a story about the dangers of overfeeding fish.
“White House reporters, keen perhaps to pick up on a Trump gaffe, captured the moment when he upended his box on their smartphones and tweeted evidence of his questionable grasp of fish keeping,” The Guardian wrote. “Some speculated that a poor palace employee would be dispatched to the scene to clean up the mess as soon as the two leaders disappeared inside.”
Foreign dignitaries have been feeding the fish in the koi pond for years, but Trump did not lose patience, despite what the media wants the narrative to be. He was literally emulating Abe with his actions.
One Twitter user wrote, “Abe is basically watching in polite rage-horror as the epic orange buffoon tries to kill his fish,” but she clearly didn’t see the entire video, while the New York Daily News said, “The former New York City real estate tycoon got a little heavy handed while feeding koi.”

Obama to meet leaders of China, India on 3-nation trip this week
***
Nov. 28 (UPI) — For the first time since he left office in January, former President Barack Obama will meet with multiple world leaders during a three-nation tour this week.
The 44th president will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing — and India Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
Obama’s foreign trip will come just two weeks after President Donald Trump completed a 12-day Asia tour. White House adviser Ivanka Trump spoke Tuesday at a business summit in India, at the invitation of Modi.
The former president is set to begin the tour in Shanghai, where he will speak at a trade summit. Wednesday, he will meet with Xi and participate in an education summit.
In a statement, his office said Obama has “forged a close and cooperative partnership with President Xi on issues ranging from growing the global economy to combating climate change, and he looks forward to catching up with his former counterpart.”

Kim Jong Un tours catfish farm as soldiers go hungry
***
Nov. 28 (UPI) — North Korea aired footage of leader Kim Jong Un providing field guidance at a new catfish farm as sources said soldiers in the country are subsisting on moldy corn.
Kim’s rare civilian visit comes at a time when the relatively isolated state could be struggling with the toughest sanctions to be imposed on the regime for its development of nuclear weapons.
North Korea’s state-controlled network KCTV said Tuesday Kim toured the newly built Sunchon Catfish Factory, and aired images of Kim showing his satisfaction with the condition of fish tanks and freezers filled with catfish.
“Comrade Kim Jong Un provided field guidance at the newly built Sunchon Catfish Factory, born in the struggle to achieve the decision made at the Seventh Party Congress” in 2016, KCTV stated.
North Korea already operates three other catfish farms.
The fish is reportedly disease-resistant, reproduces quickly and have been cultivated as North Korea continues to cope with food shortages, according to South Korean television network MBN.
“Nothing is impossible if it is done in the revolutionary spirit of self-regeneration,” North Korea stated.
Food shortage and disease, however, are a constant problem in North Korea’s military, sources in the country say.
Daily NK reported Tuesday soldiers are suffering from diarrhea because they are consuming moldy corn.

OK, I think it’s time to withdraw from Korea and Japan. North Korea’s military is no longer a threat.
Scientists turn tofu whey into ‘tasty’ alcoholic drink
***
Nov. 27 (UPI) — Meet sachi, the first alcoholic drink made from tofu whey.
Tofu whey is a liquid byproduct generated during the tofu production process. It’s typically thrown away, but scientists at the National University of Singapore have found to way to turn it into a tasty beverage.
The researchers’ innovative fermentation process also fortifies the drink with isoflavones, antioxidants unique to soy.
Some scientists have suggested isoflavones offer health benefits, including protection against cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, some types of cancer and loss of cognitive function. So far, there is limited evidence of such health benefits.
But even if sachi doesn’t cure cancer, it may help prevent waste.
“The traditional way of manufacturing tofu produces a large amount of whey, which contains high levels of calcium and unique soya nutrients such as isoflavones and probiotics,” Chua Jian Yong, a doctoral student at NUS, said in a news release. “Hence, disposing tofu whey is wasteful.”
Until now, few had tried to turn tofu whey into a usable product.
“I had previously worked on alcohol fermentation during my undergraduate studies in NUS, so I decided to take up the challenge of producing an alcoholic beverage using the whey,” Chua said. “The drink turned out to be tasty, which is a pleasant surprise.”

Injured rescue chicken walks again thanks to wheelchair
***
Nov. 28 (UPI) — A California rescue chicken that was severely injured in a fight with another rooster is learning to walk again with a special wheelchair.
Darcy Smith said her rescue rooster, Roo, was severely injured in a confrontation with another rooster that she was caring for during the recent California wildfires.
…
“A few weeks ago during the fires, we took in another rooster that was evacuated, that rooster was kept in a separate cage and the chicken got intimidated by him cause he was very big so he tried to fight that rooster through the cage,” Smith told KXTV.
Roo’s beak was broken in two places, his comb was bloodied and he suffered damage to his head and swelling on his brain.
Smith said Roo couldn’t stand properly and had trouble eating and drinking until she procured a specially-made wheelchair from Australian company Chicken Therapy Chairs.

Why Calling Elizabeth Warren ‘Pocahontas’ Is Racist, Explained
http://www.theroot.com/why-calling-elizabeth-warren-pocahontas-is-racist-expl-1820802836
***
As a Harvard University professor, Elizabeth Warren was listed by the college as a minority professor because she claimed Native American ancestry. During her initial run for the Senate, her Republican opponent seized on this fact because … um … you know how they do. They tried to say it had something to do with fake diversity, dishonesty or affirmative action. They actually tried to get her to take a DNA test because white people apparently believe that Native American blood is redder or has feathers or something (the GOP is traditionally very bad at science-ing).
But is she Native American?
Who knows? She says that her parents and grandparents always told her about her Native American heritage. The New England Historic Genealogical Society’s Chris Child said he’d found a document stating that she has a great-great-great-grandmother who is Native American, which would make her 1/32 Cherokee according to the “one-drop rule” of the Federation for Unscientific Cursory Knowledge for White American Definitions, or FUCKWADS. NEHGS later backtracked on that claim when it could find no proof of the alleged document.
***
So she is 1/32 Cherokee, maybe, and this is enough to be a diversity hire?
I’m guessing about half of the population of the United States is 1/32 native American.
Or 0.6%, one of those is close.
I’m at least 1/16 and I look like a frickin’ Finn.
Is that from family folklore or did you test?
I was born here. 100% native American then.
“They actually tried to get her to take a DNA test because white people apparently believe that Native American blood is redder or has feathers or something (the GOP is traditionally very bad at science-ing).”
Umm, no, please don’t talk about science-ing when you don’t know how it works. So that’s how they test for Native American ‘blood’, by how red it is or feathers or something? The markers will show up in her DNA profile if she has any Native American DNA. Fucking retards.
That caught my eye, too. The author is denigrating his opponents as being “anti science” while displaying zero understanding of the science of DNA genetic testing.
yeah, what???
They actually tried to get her to take a DNA test because white people apparently believe that Native American blood is redder or has feathers or something (the GOP is traditionally very bad at science-ing).
Or, you know, you can identify ancestry from genetic markers.
So Warren, like many people I’ve known before is making this claim of having Native American ancestry based solely upon family folklore. ‘Look at those high cheek bones! Did you know your great great grandmother was full blooded Cherokee!?’. Cherokee seems to be the most popular tribe to want to be a descendant of, for whatever reason. Then of course she won’t do DNA testing because she knows she’s likely wrong and she’s been making this claim to gain popular status. Maybe she’s right, but it’s not worth the risk, the markers do not lie.
“she’s been making this claim to gain popular status”
And to help her application for a faculty position.
The funny thing is that, if Liawatha is claiming Cherokee descent, then it’s easy to verify without DNA. The Cherokee don’t use a blood quantum* and instead determine membership in the tribe based upon descent from a select list of individuals from 1906 (called the Dawes Rolls). You’d just have to look at her semi-recent genealogy to determine if she’s Cherokee or not.
* = Yes, some tribes really do use the proportion of “blood” you have to determine membership, it’s not some white conspiracy
You know who else used distant genealogy to determine who could be a citizen?
Cherokee genealogical experts have already said she is not Cherokee. Their activist brethren have different standards however.
I wonder what the same author would have to say about Rachel Dolezal.
Oh yeah, she was the white girl who claimed to be black? Leftists, there’s nothing they won’t try to get special status.
I’m just doubting he would defend her – at all.
I’m a little surprised NEHGS made the initial statement before making sure they had the document.
13 Ways White Male Privilege Shows Up as Early as Elementary School
https://everydayfeminism.com/2015/12/early-white-male-privilege/
***
3. Students Are Taught Only Western Culture’s Approach to Math and Science
Students learn that the approach they learn in school is the “right” way to do things. When it comes to subjects like math and science, many of us accept what we learn in school as the objective way to get the right answers.
But it’s not the only way.
Many non-Western cultures have other approaches, and some Western concepts of math and science come from other cultures that go unrecognized.
Some students suffer when their lessons favor Western ways as the only way.
For example, by the time Native students begin formal schooling, many of them already have scientific knowledge from indigenous traditions. When their school curriculum ignores this knowledge and Native learning strategies, many of these students struggle.

Stone Age tribes are well-known for their achievements in science and technology. Or at least they would be if they had invented writing.
***
5. White Male Students Aren’t Told That STEM Fields Aren’t for Them
It’s no coincidence that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math fields are largely dominated by white men.
Spend time in an elementary or high school classroom, and you might witness lots of ways white girls and children of color of all genders are treated like they’re not capable in STEM subjects.
A study of physics doctorates over 39 years showed that 22,172 degrees went to white men – and 66 to Black women.
Many of those women started out as girls who were discouraged from participating in STEM.
***
Strangely, this bigotry appears to have no effect on Asians or Jews.
***
6. Native English Speakers Can Speak Their Native Language in School
In the United States, there are over 300 languages spoken as a first language, with more than 60 million people speaking a language other than English at home.
While schools are required to have ESL classes for students learning English, these students are left behind with materials and standardized tests all given in English.
The US has no official language – but we often treat American Standard English as if everyone should speak it.
***
It’s kind of hard to get a STEM job in the US without knowledge of English.
I love it when grievance studies majors write about STEM like they know fuckall about it.
If I were president for a day I would remove all federal funding, loans, and grants for gender and ethnic studies. These programs only exist to create lunatic activists and politicians who are a net drain on the economy.
If I were king for a day I would end them immediately.
I have never heard this. In fact, I’ve only heard people push women into stem. That, plus the plethora of scholarships that are only available to non straight white men going into stem, tells me this is all fucking horseshit.
They’re having to go earlier and earlier with their “rotten apple” analysis, because they’re getting laughed out of the building when they say that women are discourage from STEM at the college age or the high school age, or even the middle school age.
Well, the problem is that there aren’t enough teachers that look like their students. (And conveniently ignore that according to the DOE 76% of public school teachers are women.)
I think it’s hilarious when they argue that it’s important for kids to have role models who “look like them”. I also recall an article about black people appearing to favor neighborhoods that already have black people living there; one of the interviewees said, “people want to live near people who look like them”.
So if there was a black teacher with a class full of white kids, would it be totally woke (and definitely not racist) if I tried to get her replaced with a white teacher because “they kids want to see a teacher who looks like them”?
White girls and COC were excelling in science and math at my HS thirty years ago. They are completely making shit up here.
I was in the advanced math in elementary, my principal taught us.
there were 5 of us. 2 were girls, 3 were guys. I’m the only one who didn’t end up in STEM.
In high school, our math team was over 60% women. our valedictorian was a girl.
The girls that were good at math were really good at math. the guys were all above average, but we ran the gambit.
the whole fucking argument is nonsense.
Purely anecdotal:
I was in K-12 from the years 1993 to 2006. During that entire stretch, the teachers – who were mostly female – constantly insinuated that girls were inherently smarter and better behaved than boys. I recall many times where teachers would shout, “Why can’t you be more like the girls? Look at them, they’re sitting there quietly with their work done!”
And I’ve always been puzzled to hear that women are portrayed as weak and helpless in popular culture. When I was growing up, I remember almost every single show had at least one “ass-kicking female” character, and many popular franchises were had entirely female protagonists (Powerpuff Girls, Charlie’s Angels, etc.).
The idea that women are discriminated against or discouraged from pursuing rewarding careers is a form of mass delusion.
that should be “anyone but a straight white man.” I blame the beer.
you all knew what I meant.
The code school I looked at would have given me a grant if I was gay. How they’d prove that, I have no idea.
Or of any color. or a woman. But a white straight guy changing careers from a trade? go fuck yourself.
Check out what language the vast majority of scientific articles are written in. It’s kind of hard to get a STEM job in Germany, Japan, or Pakistan without knowledge of English.
It’s not that hard if you are good and you can speak intermediate level English. But you have to at least speak a level of English that can let you communicate at a business level. How else would you communicate with stake holders?
I wonder what their perspective is on “non-Western” cultures so frequently blaming things they don’t like such as gays and women’s rights on the West.
“Many non-Western cultures have other approaches, and some Western concepts of math and science come from other cultures that go unrecognized.”
Meet Og Goomba, inventor of the telephone.
Goomba’s mistake was not writing down the dates on his papers.
Og Goomba: Look, I can make this technology work! *pulls out beheaded chicken and dances around fire, occasionally spitting some powder into fire.*
‘See, it works!’
Client: Um, it isn’t working. What … was … My office is on fire! *calling fire department*
Og Goomba: Racist!
Everybody who’s been through school in the past 30+ years was taught that the Egyptians, Babylonians, Indians, Arabs, and Persians all made substantial contributions to mathematics as practiced today. There isn’t a child or young adult alive today who’s proficient in math or science who hasn’t at least heard about the “concepts of math and science [that] come from other cultures”.
Instead of blaming Europe for the Renaissance, these people should be asking why the Arabs and Persians didn’t do anything more with algebra after inventing it. By the time Leibniz and Netwon developed calculus, the nexus of mathematical and scientific progress had almost completely shifted to Western Europe. It wasn’t a conspiracy, it was just the state of the world.
At no point in my upbringing and education was I more inclined towards STEM because of the white Europeanness of its recent innovators. It was a completely irrelevant detail. Math is interesting to me for reasons that have nothing to do with the names, skin colors, spoken languages, cultural affinities, ethnicities or nationalities of the people who developed it. And if you can’t appreciate that, then that’s why you don’t begin to understand it.
What I heard in elementary, middle, and high school told to boys: “do what you want in life”
What I heard in elementary, middle, and high school told to girls: “GO INTO STEM.”
“Many non-Western cultures have other approaches, and some Western concepts of math and science come from other cultures that go unrecognized”
Ok, then demonstrate that concept and prove that it works, at least as good as the western concept? I can’t even imagine if someone from another culture went to a university and said ‘hey, I have a different concept of math and science and it’s just as reliable or better that the accepted standard’, that they would never get the chance to try to prove it.
“White Male Students Aren’t Told That STEM Fields Aren’t for Them”
What in the fuck does that even mean? WHO is it that’s being told that? No one, that’s who. Not in this country.
It’s all just gibberish. Derp really outdid himself with this one. That author has no idea what most of the words they wrote mean. Most of the assertions are fictions. The conclusions are all false. It reflects a bottomless ignorance of the subject. It is perfect derp in every way.
Progressives don’t particularly want immigrants to learn English proficiently. If they do they are more likely to become successful and not buy into progressive dogma.
There seems to be a trend among tech workers of Asian and Indian descent who have said fuck you to the progressives dogma as soon as they figure out that means paying higher taxes, for basically nothing in return. They really are not down with Americans obsession with strange and loony first world problems. The entire progressive movement seems to be led by old white commies and spoiled white millennials who believe everyone else are dumb helpless sheep whom they can manipulate to help out with the misguided vision.
Oh, there are definitely immigrants (first and second generation) on this bandwagon. The editors of Jacobin who debated the Jacket and KMW were Indian*, and Kshama Sawant (Communist-Seattle) was born in India.
* = Technically, one of them was from Trinidad and Tobago but of Indian descent.
I can’t even imagine if someone from another culture went to a university and said ‘hey, I have a different concept of math and science and it’s just as reliable or better that the accepted standard’, that they would never get the chance to try to prove it.
And yet, the superior dozenal counting method has been rejected.
The problem with base-12 is that it requires way too many changes. If there is a benefit to its use, and if so it’s diminished in a field that uses the metric system heavily, it’s outweighed by the cost of adoption. Much like the vaunted Dvorak keyboard, it faces the very uphill battle of overcoming the convenience and universality of a good enough system that already exists.
It’s a bit like arguing with creationists who are convinced that there is some sort of big Darwin group paying off all the biologists out there. When anybody who has spent any time dealing with scientests know that they would happily slice each other’s throats open for a tenure track position.
And yeah, I know this might come off as a bit hypocritical for a climate change denier, but here’s the thing, all those other branches of science tend tobe falsifiable. And I’m a bit crazy for expecting that in my science. That is why I am also a string theory denier.

Goodbye and Good Riddance, Robert Mugabe
Robert Mugabe was no socialist. He was a man obsessed with his own power and control.
https://www.jacobinmag.com/2017/11/robert-mugabe-coup-resignation-zimbabwe
***
Much of what people outside Zimbabwe know about Mugabe starts on April 18, 1980, when the colonial tether on Zimbabwe snapped and the country gained independence from Britain. The popular story is that Mugabe, as a Marxist revolutionary, ushered in a new era of liberation and social progress, exemplified by the early expansion of the education and health delivery system for black people. Yet Mugabe was neither a socialist nor a revolutionary.
…
Mugabe never hid his disdain for pot-smoking and dreadlocked black men, instead marveling at European classical musicians, especially Beethoven. In an oft-recounted story, Mugabe was quick to express his displeasure about Bob Marley’s invitation to perform at the 1980 independence celebrations. It’s said that he wanted a pianist, preferably British, possibly Cliff Richard.
…
As an intellectual, Mugabe was never a serious one. His idea of intellectualism was confined to the accumulation of certificates, academic or otherwise. His much-vaunted “seven university degrees,” many achieved through correspondence, were a testimony to this shallowness. A cursory Google search of his works pulls up one collection of his speeches titled Our War of Liberation: Speeches, Articles, Interviews, 1976-1979, but nothing intellectually intriguing. His politics correspondingly lacked ideological robustness, and many of his party and national programs were not designed to outlive him. For that reason, he loathed any discussion about succession, and was violent to anyone posing any kind of threat to him.
…
It is easy to point to the social programs during the independence euphoria of the 1980s as an example of Mugabe’s commitment to black people and socialism. But throughout the 1980s, and with “Britain’s willful blindness,” Mugabe sought to build a one-party dictatorship in the mold of the Kims’ North Korea. In fact, he invited North Korean military supervisors to help him create a private army brigade that hounded the opposition and committed one of the worst atrocities against African people in independent Africa. In the end, the Gukurahundi massacres left an estimated twenty thousand civilians, most of them isiNdebele-speaking black men, women, and children, dead in unmarked mass graves.

The Mugabe-era education system, specifically, was bad for the country. With it, he stifled critical minds and killed innovation. Schools taught people to cram for exams and follow instructions to a tee. The most famous teacher in the village or township was the one who whacked the hell out of children for failing a test. Most school were a mirror image of Mugabe’s political modus operandi; slapping down dissenters and ruling the country with a huge stick in hand.

Let’s see: poverty, oppression, massacres, dictatorship, cult of personality…sounds like every other socialist country.
Will the real socialist please stand up?
Much love for Marley, but he’s no Beethoven. Oh wait, he’s black so clearly he’s much better.
Africans will Liberate Zimbabwe, How’d that work out Bob?

“Robert Mugabe was no socialist. He was a man obsessed with his own power and control”
Wait, there’s a difference?
If you wanted to design a system custom made for totalitarianism you couldn’t do better than socialism because that is exactly what socialism is. After they finish covering the last graves, shooting and starving the last citizens, smashing the last functioning wealth production and institution they will scream that that was not real socialism. Then they want another go at it and do exactly the same thing again. Remember, this is about power, nothing else. Social justice, equality, positive rights, redistribution etc is for the useful idiots. The top tier doesnt give a flying shit about any of that. They care about people obeying and stashing away billions in other countries. Socialism is about power and money for the elite.
They think power is a means to an end, but that is entirely divorced from human nature. Cincinnatus is the exception; Caesar, the rule. For many people, power is the end. And they are drawn to revolutionary movements like flies to honey. For what better way to obtain total power than by dismantling all the institutions that would prevent it?
It looks like our favorite Senator, John “I Ain’t Met a Plane I Can’t Manage to Crash” McCain might get the last laugh once again, this time on taxes.

Student government refuses to approve ‘unsafe’ pro-capitalism club, administrators forced to intervene

Administrators at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point have overturned the student government’s recent decision to deny a conservative student group’s request for official recognition, with one student senator calling the pro-capitalism group “unsafe.”
Turning Point USA, a conservative group promoting limited government and free markets, was initially denied official recognition by the Student Government Association earlier this month.
But soon after that decision, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Al Thompson invoked his authority to reverse it, citing the public university’s guidelines on viewpoint neutrality.
He said the school “values diversity and the freedom to explore all ideas, even unpopular ones,” in a statement provided to The College Fix by the university’s media affairs division.
…
Prior to the student government’s Nov. 16 vote, a two-hour debate had ensued during which members of the conservative group were questioned about their viewpoints on multiple issues, according to news reports.
…
One point of contention is Turning Point’s “Victims of Communism” project. One student government senator took issue with the name, stating “Why exactly is it titled Victims of Communism? That seems negative towards communism,” reported the MacIver Institute.
And a representative from the College of Letters and Science said allowing the group would “fail to create a diverse and inclusive environment. Allowing this org will cause students to feel unsafe and unwelcome and now [sic] want to attend this university at all,” the institute reported.
…
One student government representative, a member of the Black Student Union, said that the organization may be racist.
“I wonder if this organization will talk to people of color,” he asked during the meeting, the institute reported.

Brown University to allow students to ‘self-identify’ as persons of color
https://www.thecollegefix.com/post/39422/

Brown University is implementing a change to its graduate school application that will allow applicants to “self-identify” as persons of color. Multiple efforts by The College Fix to clarify the details of this change were ignored by campus officials.
The policy comes as a result of complaints made by graduate students on the Graduate School advisory board that international and Asian American students are not treated as members of historically underrepresented groups by the university, according to The Brown Daily Herald.
One graduate student, Lydia Kelow-Bennett, told The Herald that this decision has led to “institutional invisibility” for these students. Brown defines historically underrepresented groups as “American Indian, Alaskan Native, African American, Hispanic or Latinx and Native Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander.” The school’s diversity initiatives are intended to benefit members of these groups.
…
Reached by email, campus spokesman Brian Clark provided The Fix with a link to an article from Brown’s online news department celebrating the graduate school’s “most diverse class to date.” The article did not actually address the matter of minority self-identification.
When pressed about the change to the graduate school application–specifically how the option to “self-identify” as a minority differs from the standard ethnicity queries on other college applications–Clark gave no response.
Other universities allow students to “identify” a certain way in order to qualify for admissions or receive various benefits. The University of California, Davis, awards financial grants to students who identify as LGBT or as an illegal immigrant.
And in recent years, several all-women’s colleges have permitted men who identify as women to apply. Some sororities have followed suit.
