Penalties for that slap fight in Oakland are coming today. Who cares. The penultimate CFP poll comes out tonight. Also, Tennessee football is still a dumpster fire, after Cutcliffe (lol, seriously) and Witten say they have zero interest. Pretty soon, they’ll be dialing Lane Kiffen for that second chance. That’s when you know they’ve given up completely.
The hockey was pretty much it for entertainment yesterday. Penguins beat their cross-state rivals in overtime. The Panthers topped the Devils. Les Canadiens were better than the Blue Jackets. The Jets bombed the Minnesoda WIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLDDDD. And the Blackhawks put up a huge number in beating the “streaking” (but not really) Mighty Ducks.
No more sports. Here come…the links!
Thanks for nothing, assholes. Seriously, fuuuuuuuuuck yooooooooooooou! Go collectively (and metaphorically) jump in a woodchipper after this decision, which will enable assholes everywhere to go after this and other natural rights.
Tough shit, tax leeches. Its not only immoral but should be illegal to hold people a generation later financially responsible for piss-poor decisions made by crony politicians and the unions that financed their campaigns.
Another court-related story of assholery. God forbid you’d allow a patient and doctor make their own decisions.
Guilty pleas from two Atlanta area prison guards are a good start. I’m sure it was funny tazing someone until they shit their pants. Now maybe it can happen to you too, asshole.
180 women report being sexually assaulted at Massage Envy locations. Jesus, that’s almost as bad as Congress! But not quite as bad as the Bill Clinton White House.
Keeping Portland weird is one thing. But running businesses out of their new offices because hobos are accosting their employees and shitting in the street is something else entirely. Good lock with that decision, Columbia.
What ever happened to these guys? Must have just started sucking. Oh well, that’s the song I’ve got today.
Go out there and enjoy the day. It’s Liberty Ordeth Cranberry Spicer’s 4th birthday today. My how time flies. (Hey, I have two 4 year olds that aren’t twins for the next few days!)

“public interest” – and what exactly is public interest?
Of course, this is a libertarian mythology — the government is always involved – oh libertarians are well aware the government is always involved
The FCC right now is exhibiting a textbook case of regulatory capture – no way regulatory capture who would have imagined something like this
libertarians: Regulatory capture is why agencies like the FCC shouldn’t exist. Regardless of motives and intentions the agency will always in the end come to serve the interests of the largest and most politically connected businesses in that field to the determent of the consumer and smaller competitors.
statist: Libertarian philosophy encourages companies to engage in regulatory capture so they can operate free of influence from the government. This is why we need strong regulatory agencies so they can resist those attempts at corporate take over.
“The FCC right now is exhibiting a textbook case of regulatory capture, which is the scenario where a government regulatory body begins to internalize the logic and value systems of the industries it purportedly regulates.”
Here’s the conundrum for people who are always pushing for regulation (because thinking the government shouldn’t be involved is just libertarian mythology). You need to have TOP MEN to be making the rules, who obviously need to know what they are doing. The people who are going to know the most about an industry are going to be people from that industry. So any attempt to further regulate an industry, only further blurs the line between government be and business. If you want business out of government, you have to get government out of business.
“If you want business out of government, you have to get government out of business.”
But they don’t want government out of business. They want a fascist economy where businesses are essentially commanded by the government. Then when that inevitably fails, they’ll claim it shows the failure of free markets and capitalism and demand socialization of the business.
It’s fairly obvious that the most qualified people to regulate any industry have degrees in ethnic/gender studies.
In addition, regulatory agencies are basically the gods of the marketplace. Of course corporations are going to make sacrificial offerings to try and get on their good side; these agencies decide whether that business will live or die! When they can drive a business into bankruptcy with fines and injunctions, you can expect regulatory capture to occur simply as a matter of survival for all these corporations.
IT’S STRAW MAN TIME
I thought regulatory capture was when the government ACTED to protect legacy industries with onerous regulations that new upstarts couldn’t afford.
Not, you know, ‘doing nothing’.
Like Obama’s definition of rent seeking, you’ve simply been misinformed this entire time. They’re happy to progsplain this to you.
re: Massage Envy
Wait, I thought that’s why women went to massage parlors. At least that’s why men go – for a happy ending – or so I’ve heard. /not serious
It may sound callous but at thousands of locations and multiple years 180 is not that surprising. Not saying it is not bad and the company didn’t screw up
Isn’t “BuzzFeed investigation” an oxymoron?
I have never heard anything good about that place. Poor business practices (dumb shit like you can’t cancel membership if you have unused massages -wtf), poorly trained massage therapists and just generally crappy service. This doesn’t surprise me.
That’s how it works in Shanghai.
Uhm. Or so I’m told. Yeah.

See? Told you they were coming.
which will enable assholes everywhere to go after this and other natural rights.
The Heller decision already did that. Scalia left holes in it you could drive a truck through. From Heller:
Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, concealed weapons prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms. Miller’s holding that the sorts of weapons protected are those “in common use at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting the carrying of dangerous and unusual weapons.
Like most rights, the First Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to convey any speech whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose: For example, fighting words and hate speech prohibitions have been upheld under the Amendment or state analogues. The Court’s opinion should not be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on speech by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding hate speech in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial dissemination of speech and other media. Precedent holding that the sorts of speech protected is that “in common acceptance at the time” finds support in the historical tradition of prohibiting dangerous and offensive speech.
You know this is where they want to go with this shit.
i have not read the dissent yet but here’s a snippet from the article..
The majority opinion, written by Judge Robert B. King, refers to the banned firearms as “weapons of war” that the court says are most useful in the military.
In a strongly worded dissent, Judge William B. Traxler Jr. said his colleagues have “gone to greater lengths than any other court to eviscerate the constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms.”
have to get my hands on the full dissent!
It takes a lot of words to weasel around “shall not be infringed”
Everclear’s first two albums are great. There I said it. So Much For the Afterglow especially.
Father of Mine is a masterpiece—it’s such a simple 3-4 chord song, the drummer NEVER (IN ANY SONG, NOT JUST THIS ONE) does ANYTHING interesting…and yet. I think it’s a fun study of how a simple stupid song can be so musically/emotionally powerful.
I had band practice last night. Local talent is mixing together to make an Xmas set which is a bit of a tradition here. I’ve played with everybody but the bass player, and the pianist and I are in our own project. Singer used to have a gig in Vegas for 10 years and the guitar player and my pianist are fucking magically good. Bass player pulled his weight. Talented. And here I am playing jazz grooves in the background for the first time in a long time. I’m maybe the best or second best drummer in town (with many glaring weaknesses) but I was panic attack-y going into practice.
Had nothing to fear. We have a fun community here.
Sparkle and Fade and So Much For The Afterglow are in my music library. Always had a soft spot for those 2 albums. Even though Art Alexakis is a right twat.
So I was right? They started sucking.
It happens to a lot of bands. They hit a creative wall and that’s that. No shame in it. I’m sure they’re all living comfortable lives and know they made music a lot of people, me included, found enjoyable. Good on them for making a couple really fun albums.
In my years of collecting music – I’ve heard it many times. The rush and excitement of the first album, where they blow a lot of their creative juices. And then the sophomore slump album which is still good but with more filler songs. A good group can comeback on the third, but plenty of ’em lose the magic they once had. Broad brushes and many exceptions to the rule.
Hell it’s even true with many directors and writers.
Absolutely right. Their first two albums, especially Sparkle and Fade, are far better than anything else they did.
Gene.
Olympian (1995) and To See the Lights (1996) are amazing.
It’s as if when they made “Drawn to the Deep End” they had completely forgotten how to write a song.
I missed this discussion and commented below, but I liked their double album Songs From an American Movie. There are a lot of solid songs in there. Including the Brown Eyed Girl cover I linked to below. It’s quite a bit different from Van’s original, so YMMV.
I hated Sparkle and Fade, even though I like “Santa Monica”. Because of my experience with the first album, I wrote them off after that.
Fight me.
There are couple of lousy songs on Sparkle and Fade, but most of the album is excellent. Santa Monica, Heroin Girl, You Make Me Feel Like a Whore, Her Brand New Skin, Chemical Life, Thetwistinside….
Will we be graced with some Soundcloud links at some point?

“These aren’t secondary concerns but first steps in ensuring cultural norms are dictated by and serve women in a brave new world for us by us. This is the prime directive.”
And where, pray tell, do men and non-feminists fit into this brave new world? Lined up against the wall?
This is the prime directive.
I’m ok with following prime directives if doing so would have killed Wesley Crusher off in Season 1. But if it is gonna be violated to save that asshole, then what good is it?
If Picard had let her son die, he would have never banged the redhead, especially after already killing her husband.
A chance to bang a redhead excuses everything.
And what the fuck do they think happens once men and non-feminists are out of the picture? When Daddy or the boyfriend isn’t around to feed them, clothe them, and provide them shelter?
The bottom line is that men and sane women can get by just honkey-dorey if these people dropped off of the face of the earth. Hell, their disappearance would probably amount to a net positive. As others have said, these people, on the other hand, can’t even figure out which bathroom to use. They’d starve, cold, wet and miserable in the dark. Intellectual and economic strength? Based on what? They don’t add any value to the world.

Brave New World, eh? I don’t think Mustafa Monde is going to see much point in your sticking around.
You already have this. Sex discrimination in hiring is already illegal, and the EOCC is overzealous in their enforcement. Also, career opportunities are tilted in women’s favor if anything due to “affirmative action” and “diversity” programs in colleges and corporations. If some young lady choses to be a womyn’s studies major instead of an engineer, that’s not society’s fault.
Oh yes, if the feminist movement is guilty of one thing, it’s being too supportive of men. *eye roll*

No. Those are just too insane. I like tits. Have a shrine to them. But those are too big. They don’t look right.
And most importantly (DAMMIT!), they won’t age well.
My brother got hitched to a small girl 12 years ago or so. She’s filled out and is way hotter now at 35 than she was at 22. That’s what i’m talking about.

Yeah, I often strongly disagree with y’all’s choices. I figured it was mostly due to taste, but also having only a single pic to go on, and if we had interacted with these ladies in person, maybe there’d be more unanimity of opinion.
It just means women are getting fatter.

https://m.washingtontimes.com/news/2017/nov/27/joy-reid-of-msnbc-calls-rural-voters-core-threat-t/
“The rural minority — the people [author] @JYSexton just wrote a long thread about — have and will continue to have disproportionate power over the urban majority,”
Tyranny of the majority? What’s that? America should just bow to the whims of whatever LA, DC, and NYC want.
Isn’t this the point of a republic versus a democracy?
Yup, which is why politicians are always talking about “our democracy”; they really don’t like the constitutional republic set up.
It’s certainly the point of Federalism and the Connecticut Compromise. Why would smaller or rural states have agreed to join the union if they were going to be ruled by national majorities which a few mega-cities would always win?
It’s also an absolute necessity to peacefully hold together a continent-wide nation-state. That’s one of the things these people just don’t seem to understand. A democracy works when you have a relatively homogenous population with a strong congruence of interests. But, on a continent-wide basis, that simply doesn’t exist. The only means you can hold the nation-state together is through coercion and empire. People in Middle America would have no need, interest or incentive to remain part of a democracy governed, effectively, without their consent or representation from the coastal urban centers.
They also don’t understand that if they push the issue too hard, the middle of the country will leave the union and there won’t be a damn thing they could do about it.
Exactly my point. They could rely on sheer force of arms (Civil War v2.0) to maintain the nation-state. But, that’s going to be a recurring issue. You’d need a perpetual, political, domestic military to keep the nation together. And that, in turn, means their democracy goes bye-bye.
I doubt they could hold it together with the military. The sons of the coastal elites aren’t enlisting in the Marines or Army Infantry.
The sons of the coastal elites aren’t enlisting in the Marines or Army Infantry.
In theory, they could man their military with the sons of the coastal poor (there’s plenty) and immigrants. But, again, that’s beside the point. Either the democracy dies as the military gets political and domestically focused, or the country falls apart. Either way, you can’t maintain the democratic, continent-wide, nation-state.
Guatemalan janissaries?
The sons of the coastal elites aren’t enlisting in the Marines or Army Infantry.
There were times when it seemed like two-thirds of the Marine Corps was comprised of guys from Texas.
I’ve heard “progressives” whine about this before. And I always tell them that if more issues were left up to the states (as it was supposed to be), the votes of those icky deplorables in flyover country wouldn’t affect them so much.

Of course. Not because she’s 84 years old and senile and actually harming patients. Because she’s too old to keep up with the government’s spying efforts. Fuck off.

This is why it aggravates me to hear people complain about “for-profit corporations” ruining everything. Do people seriously think that the government is not the biggest, greediest, most crooked corporation of all? Not to mention those public sector unions that profit based on the number of government workers on the books…
Those are selfless public servants. They deserve everything they earned in good-faith negotiations with the voters.

Transgender Guidelines Changed To Allow Co-Ed Showers For Girl Guides
When did Bosom Buddies become a SJW manual?
Remember ladies, all men are dangerous sexual predators and we’re going to force you to shower with them and you won’t be allowed to carry a gun to protect yourself.
They aren’t men you shitlord, they say they think they are women.
Hey, if it worked in Starship Troopers…
I’ve read every page multiple times and have no recollection of that scene.
Look, the book is obviously far superior, and it has nothing in common with the movie except for the title. But I like the movie, ok?
Yes but in the completely unrelated movie that happened by pure chance to bear the same name there was a co ed shower scene and that combined with Dina Myers tits made the move entirely watchable
So they’ll find all the girls with pancake titties in the guides and have them shower with dudes to…what, exactly…turn them away from casual sex?
Four girls in that scene and I have to look at four sets of tits that look like they belong on a plate at a Denny’s? Thanks a lot, Verhoeven.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2017/11/extreme-digital-vetting-of-visitors-to-the-us-moves-forward-under-a-new-name/
To me, this represents clear First and Fourth Amendment violations. If there’s any justification, it might be about people’s expectations of privacy on social media.
Regardless of what our expectations of privacy on social media really are, we might be better off as a society if they approached zero. The ability to monitor what we say on social media in real time will become increasingly easy and inexpensive, and that’s the real drag on surveillance–not the Constitution. I’d expect the courts to rule that anything we put on social media is in the public sphere. Why should the government need a warrant to see what you do in public? Patrolling social media might be a lot like sending cops to patrol a neighborhood–and keep their eyes open for trouble.
I wouldn’t count on the unwillingness of voters to subject themselves to surveillance to save us–not given the willingness of social media users to share so much about themselves in public.
Asking for the government to not get involved in social media is libertarian mythology. The government is always involved.
This is why social media is a curse. (Well one reason anyway)
It’s having a chilling effect on my speech, to be sure.
Already at zero, for a long time in fact.

I think it was the year before.

Ken is correct. Last year’s numbers were down. I think there was an anonymous donor that offered to match donations. The year before an anonymous donor brought them up to their goal.

A sane criticism of the most powerful man in the world should be easier to find.
I guess you weren’t in his case. This has been his schtick for as long as I’ve lurked (since 2013), but I think he’s from before my time.
Hugh was generally sane but would go completely off the rails at times, comparable to John or Eddie, based on the proper subject matter.
Too local.

Iowahawk, once again, gets it completely right when talking about Trump and the Navajo code talkers.
https://twitter.com/iowahawkblog/status/935255410965143552
Yeah, that gets it about right, although . . .
I’m not sure what the downside is for Trump. Liz Warren could pose a serious challenge in 2020. Keeping that issue alive could be a good thing for Trump, and he’s already seen as an insensitive dolt.
I must not have sufficient empathy to understand how calling out a liar for lying about their heritage is racist. To me, Warren’t claims are pretty much a lefty form of stolen valor, used both to signal virtue and victim status, and to obtain the benefits of Affirmative Action to overcome her lackluster academic origins.
If I went running around calling myself an Indian because I had one Indian ancestor almost 200 years ago (which I do!), people would justly mock me for it. Warren doesn’t even have that one distant ancestor to use as a fig leaf.
And to be fair, while Trump could have put it more eloquently, it’s not out of line to bring it up to actual Indian war heroes. I mean, maybe it’s just me, but I’d be kind of pissed if I felt that someone was using injustices against me or my family (implied collectivism aside) to aggrandize themselves.
and he’s already seen as an insensitive dolt.
Yeah, I kind of got the same impression. It’s not like Trump is going to tarnish his reputation of discretion and thoughtful commentary with this. Being a “world class buffoon” isn’t exactly off anyone’s expectations for The Donald.
i heard he had a meeting in the Roosevelt Room next to honor Japanese-Americans.
Speaking of tax leeches….
Falcon Heights, Minnesoda is going to charge a “franchise fee” to the U of MN and the State Fairgrounds to raise taxes from the tax free entities.
Why? Well to help pay for the Philando Castile shooting.
The #MeToo Elephant in the Room: Sex
“But if one counts as victims the un-jerk-like men who feel invalidated by the very same system, #MeToo may inadvertently condemn more victims than perpetrators.”
Wait, so now being too much of a pussy to get pussy is sexual abuse?
I think he’s trying to work up the courage to become a cock-block.
He’s somehow justifying himself as a male beta, I guess?
Guys would quit being jerks if it stopped working at getting women to sleep with them.
Guys will be nice when nice guys get laid.
Maybe it’s my handsome privilege, but I’ve found being fun and nice to women works just fine.
Same here. Most of the whining I hear from people like makes little sense to me and I think they are lying.
Contrary to what the “pick-up artist” community says, there are women out there who don’t go for the “jerk” thing. They might be less common, but they’re out there. It just takes more than some cringey pickup lines to get them in the sack.
Women with Daddy issues go for jerks. There are a lot of women out there with Daddy issues. Women with Daddy issues are pretty much, by definition, head cases.
I’m gonna ‘out’ myself here are make the claim that what constitutes a ‘jerk’ to a man is different, and far more specific than what ‘jerk’ means to many/most women, the former being a relatively perfect subset to the latter.
It’s unfortunate, but a guy can spend his whole life and considerable effort not being a jerk, based on his and his male friends’ criteria, and yet fall at the first hurdle when interacting with a woman he hasn’t met.
The word is used as freely, and indiscriminately as ‘creepy’. Typically, the meaning is ‘guy who is interacting with me who may be somewhat attracted to me, but I have no interest in’. Sometimes, false cover is given by claiming he did something that wasn’t as socially adept enough to be praiseworthy.
If he was suitably submissive when he (foolishly) claimed he “liked her style”, he was a creep. If he was more assertive, he was a jerk. This is a learned behavior that can be delivered by women with, and without “daddy issues”, or any other cargo-cult pop-sci psychological profiling we might care to accuse women of.
Meanwhile, the rest of us are just glad someone who is that messed up is voluntarily removing himself from the gene pool.
I want to live in a world where we are all living in choice; Where being a jerk falls flat, but being vulnerable is incredibly sexy.
I, too, wish to live in a world in which I’m showered in approbation for not making any effort.
That seems contrary to basic biology. I don’t subscribe to the “women like jerks” mindset, but most women are going to prefer a man who seems mentally and physically capable of protecting her.
I kind of get what he’s saying. But, it sounds to me like he’s placing the blame at the feet of the wrong people. He can’t get laid because women go for the jerks. Well, the right people to place the blame with are the women who go for jerks (And I’m sorry to have to break this to you, kid, but you’re not missing out on much,. The women who go for jerks have a whole head-full of issues that you’re probably better off not spending your life having to deal with, since it seem like you have plenty of your own). The jerks are simply responding to the revealed preferences of those women.
Oh I think there is some basis for a story there this guy just lacks the capacity to tell it.
The entire point of the #metoo movement is to highlight how pervasive sexual misconduct is for women. That is great and all but try as they might to minimize it #notallmen does not mean there are a handful of exceptions it means that a majority of men have never once knowingly engaged in any behavior that they would see as abusive or harassing.
Part of it is that women often seem to be pathologically afraid to tell the truth and so the guy does not realize that what he thinks is just playful banter is perceived very differently by her. Mostly however it is just that the majority of men, contrary to feminist orthodoxy, are not sex monsters fueled by toxic masculinity and have never once engaged in any but the most trivially boorish of these absuive/harrassing behaviors.
On the flip side those guys who aren’t entitled assholes have often had to sit there and be abused by the same set of guys abusing women while we watched the women around us repeatedly fawn all over the entitled asshole because he was paying attention to her and now they get to be victimized again as they are told that their actions don’t matter, their possession of a penis makes them just as much of an abuser as the entitled asshole

Dating Tips For Prominent Democrats

Hey, nobody gets into liberal politics because they actually believe this stuff! Being a Democrat leader has always been a traditional path to making special new friends for guys who can’t cut it on looks and personality. Face it – no one ever said, “You know who’s hot? Al Franken. I bet he can bench his body weight.” If Harvey Weinstein had managed a Safeway, America’s starlets and ferns would be substantially less traumatized.
Having needs is nothing to be ashamed of. You’ve taken on an awesome responsibility being a Democrat leader – you’re constantly struggling to hold up the burden imposed upon you by the support and acclaim of the D.C. establishment and the media. You have a right to extracurricular activities;
Question : is this funny? Seems a bit forced
I like that they included this:
Editor’s note: This column is satire.

Chilling moment night sky turns RED as ‘alien explosions’ erupt over New York
Is that a reliable source?
The red sky is due to a combination the angle of the sun, cloud location, air pollution and dust.
So basically when the sun is at the right angle it illuminates New Yorkers farts to open the gateway to hell. I think that’s somewhere near Hillary’s New York mansion.
Central New Mexico pretty routinely gets blood orange-tinted sunsets when Arizona is on fire. It’s never lit up the night sky like that, but I have to wonder whether the piss-poor image quality indicates poor low-light capture. It could be a lot earlier in the evening than the footage lets on.

Stupid question. It’s DU, FFS!
I’m still not sure about the tax plan. The tax cuts appear to be minimal, if anything, for most individuals, which is a stark contrast to how it’s being portrayed by the repubs. If the ACA mandate cut makes it through the end, it would be worth it just for that. Business tax cut, repeal of the estate tax, end of blue state deductions… these are all great, but should be framed as that, not some sort of comprehensive tax plan that is really just shuffling for individuals.
The biggest argument in favor of the tax plan is the wailing screams of the progs. Based on the pitch and intensity, maybe it’s a better plan than I think.
No way to tell. Even the most anodyne reforms would produce howls of outrage. They turn up the intensity to eleven to start with.

A leftist saying that should be considered a credible threat.
For example, in this year’s rendition, held earlier this month, students observed skits that included a black man yelling at them to stand against and face the wall and not look at him.
Usually the students don’t get that experience until their first 1 AM beer run to the local AM/PM.

Perpetual motion machine!
OT rant. Fuck the idiots that run my place of work! Every year at this time they hire some parking lot attendants to needlessly direct the flow of traffic and bottleneck the entrances/exits in an attempt to annoy all of us. So, because of this BS, I come in to work even earlier than normal to make sure I can get a halfway decent parking spot. So, what happens? I make my turn at the light, and the entrance I normally use is blocked off with cones. Seriously, the lot is already full one and a quarter hours before shift starts?! So, I have to park all the way on the opposite side of the building. As I’m walking up to the entrance, I see that same part of the lot that’s blocked off is completely open! WTF!?!?!?!? WHY DO YOU MOTHERFUCKERS HAVE THIS BLOCKED OFF!? Fuck you dumbshits who hire these jackasses to make parking a nightmare!
If you would just bike to work like a good citizen this wouldn’t be a problem.
A real libertarian would just move the cones out of the way.
Or just drive over the cones.
I did this once at work, back when I drove a truck, in full view of the elderly security guard in the hut, with no repercussions.
A real libertarian would run the attendants over because they don’t care about anyone else and therefore think murder is ok. /Prog
Um, they’re parking lot attendants. They have no right to stop you if you drive around the cones and park where you want.
Except there are also barricades. My car isn’t going to be driving around those. Also, they have the police here to “help.” Yeah, a better parking spot isn’t worth getting a ticket.
parking lot attendants whre UI work can put those blocking things on the wheel of your car. So there is that. I have no idea if that is legal or if the can refuse to take it off.
They probably take it off but can delay you a bit by taking their time
Just curious, who do the attendants work for? For the property owner/manager? Or an outside parking operations vendor?
Attendants are not cheap, so what is the reason behind directing the flow of traffic?
Your anger is misguided at the attendants, the property owner is paying for their services and provided the instructions, typically. Sending a complaint/question to the property owner might result in changes if enough complaints are received. Helps if it’s the same owner of the parking lot and the office building. Building tenants are important and complaints might be shared with the right people at the property management office.
I work in property management and work a lot with parking operations, so this stuff piques my interest.
It’s some outside company they hire. As for the reason, I haven’t a clue why they think this is a good idea. The only legit reason I can think for them is for the small carpool parking section in front. Hire a small number of them to check that area and make sure only people with the carpool pass get in, and leave the rest of the lot alone! Also, most of my anger is at our people for hiring them, though I really don’t see what excuse there is for closing off a whole section of the lot when it’s almost completely empty, so some anger at the attendants themselves is there.

5.1 Morrissey: Low In High School Review
Hey he’s human, he needs to be loved.
Ooh, ooh! Do The Pixies next!
“Insert Musician Name Here” sucks compared to when he/she was in his 20s and 30s isn’t exactly a revelation.
Frank Black was making good solo music for a couple of decades before the Pixies reunion. Their new stuff is just a parody of Doolittle. I’m glad they got back together so I could see them live though. Still put on a good show.
Teenager of the Year was and is the shit, no doubt. I need to check out his stuff with the Catholics.
His debut solo album is good too.
For as much shit as it gets, I think Cult of Ray is a great record as well. His Frank Black and The Catholics stuff is… different. I still like it a lot better than the reunion material.
Morrissey has been playing the role of obnoxious contrarian fuckwit for the last 30 years with hipsters queuing up for a mile to crawl up his asshole, but now he’s insulted the sensibilities of the wrong people and it’s burn the heretic. Fucking pathetic.
Boom.
I always thought the real appeal of Morrissey was his ability to come up with melodies and hire kick-ass guitarists. His lyrics have always been weak with occasionally humorous-but-not-meaningful misanthropy. I pity the fuckwits who ever thought he wrote a profound lyric.

Don’t Close the Tax “Loopholes”
https://mises.org/wire/dont-close-tax-loopholes
Let me first explain how tax deductions work and how eliminating them, reducing their value, or phasing them out above a particular income level is no different from raising tax rates.
Conservatives and libertarians would scream bloody murder if the tax rates were increased. Yet, some of them are quite adamant that certain deductions should be eliminated even though it will accomplish the very same thing: increase some Americans’ taxes.
I can’t say I agree with this. I believe tax loopholes – real ones not imagined – are bad. They promote special interests, crony capitalism, can be manipulated and can be used as a for of economic planning.
Yeah, I agree. Price transparency is a good thing. Deductions, “loopholes”, subsidies, whatever you call them, they undermine transparency and create perverse political incentives. Evidenced by the fact that so many people are shitting their pants over losing their pony in any given tax reform proposal. Maybe the founders were on to something with that whole apportionment thing…
Agreed Pie. As much as I support the state getting less money, tax loopholes are too often just a way to benefit the politically connected and benefit cronies.
Precisely. Tax “deductions” of legitimate business expenses, to get to a real net income to be taxed, are fine. Tax deductions of anything else, which would include everything on a personal tax return, are just social engineering, benefiting some spending over other spending.
My default on getting rid of tax deductions is that it is a good thing because it reduces social engineering. Now, selective repeal of deductions leaves a social engineering calculus in place and may actually result in worse social engineering, but you’d have to make that case. Ideally, tax reform should repeal a whole bunch of deductions and lower rates (kinda like Reagan did). But we live in a fallen world, and I’m not going to oppose a partial reform as long as its not actively worse than what we have now.
Tax “deductions” of legitimate business expenses, to get to a real net income to be taxed, are fine.
Better still, tax shareholders (or partners or LLC members or whathaveyou) when a distribution is made instead of taxing the income of the business entity – treat every entity like a pass-through or levy a specific dividend tax, dealer’s choice. Better still, repeal the 16th amendment and go back to an equally apportioned income tax. Better still, stop taxing incomes because it’s fucking retarded to disincentivize earning and start collecting use taxes, excise taxes and consumption taxes instead.
Why treat household expenses differently than business expenses? There’s just as much social engineering with businesses as their is with households.
Our corporate/business tax is a net income tax. Deductions to get from gross to net income are necessary for this kind of tax.
Individuals don’t have “net” income. They just have income. You might add a deduction or two for their employment-related expenses of some kind, but living expenses like mortgages, state taxes, etc. don’t relate to calculating their income. Allowing deductions for living expenses is pure social engineering, in a way that deductions for business expenses are not.
CFPB in chaos as chief refuses to step aside for Trump’s man
I’m picturing a break room packed with finger-waggling drum circlers, a la Occupy Wall Street.
One’s imagination strains at a federal agency filled with tenured bureaucrats being in an actual state of “chaos”.
Mild discomfort, perhaps. Overreactions by some staff, sure. Is furniture being thrown out the windows? Are people being assaulted? Is the building on fire? No? Then its not in chaos.

Equal treatment of all income sources. Better yet, consumption taxes, also equally distributed.
Give them a break, they’re not familiar with kind of consistent thinking.
You do know this is from Mises. They are taking the any tax is bad stance.
certain deductions should be eliminated even though it will accomplish the very same thing: increase some Americans’ taxes.
So, would they support any deduction, no matter how economically stupid, simply because it decreased some Americans’ taxes?
Yes I think the Mises institute would.
Yea, this is one area where I have to disagree with the Mises Institute.
Would they support an income tax exemption for all registered Democrats because it “reduces taxes for some Americans”?
I’m a big believer in getting rid of the deduction for state income taxes.
It’s a moral hazard thing for the states. They can raise taxes higher than they would otherwise because so many of the people who bear that burden can simply deduct them from their federal taxes.
Take away that deduction, and those taxes will come down. In fact, they may never come down without that. There need to be negative consequences for the state’s misbehavior.
At the very least, state governments will need to moderate their future spending because there will be more negative consequences associated with higher taxes.
I want the feds to be cut to almost nothing, and let the states do what they will so we can move.

Next, rare heartwarming footage of Hitler playing fetch with the dogs at Treblinka.
I’ve read an awful lot about the Third Reich. I can’t remember which book it was in, one of Ian Kershaw’s I think, there was a propaganda picture of Hitler feeding a cute little baby deer with the caption “The Fuhrer is an animal lover”
I remember reading several people in the bunker testified that they were more distraught over the death of Hitler and Eva’s dogs than the suicide of Adolph and Eva. Of course that’s what I would say too if I was facing a military tribunal.
“Wherever there is animal worship, there is human sacrifice”
Well, he was a vegetarian. Which explains why he was so awful.
Next time you see footage of Hitler with Blondi around, watch how she acts when she gets near him. I thought she seemed to tense up and hunker down a bit. Like she is waiting for the bastard to hit her again.
I have read that he was indeed abusive towards Blondi and her predecessor, Prinz.
I’ve never heard that, thanks for the info. I have heard some people repeat the claim that he was an “animal lover” and my own eyes told me, no fucking way.
It’s been a while since I’ve read Kershaw or Bullock or Trevor-Roper, but as I remember it, he wasn’t always a mean pet owner. However, when he was in one of his (frequent) fits of rage, he would take out his anger on the dogs when they were around, hitting and kicking them.
Kind of like the husband who really loves his wife, except every other Saturday night when he gets drunk and slaps her around.
My elderly neighbor had a dog named Blondi. I didn’t have the heart to tell her.
Nothing says heartwarming like watching a future cyanide test subject play with it’s owner.
With Wall Street jobs dwindling, where do finance workers go now?

“Should individuals be allowed to buy and sell nuclear weapons? Why/why not?”
https://twitter.com/libertarianism/status/934936557970128898
Man, that didn’t take long. Just the first few replies were already completely stupid.
Me? Yes. You? No
Yeah, let’s debate the ethics of private nuclear weapons while we’re in the process of nationalizing the entire health care industry and seriously debating whether the federal government should control the administration of global computer networks.
That said, in the theoretical wonderland where the government has receded sufficiently to make this a realistic question, I’m for it. There’s no more justification for prohibiting ownership of nukes than there is any other type of private property. And the incentives against the misuse of weapons are probably stronger, if anything, on an individual level than a national one. Not to mention that the cost of development is so prohibitive that almost no one aside from a handful of multi-billionaires would ever be able to afford them.

Hypothetical enactment of Jeff Bezos taking the world hostage.
Not to mention that the cost of development is so prohibitive that almost no one aside from a handful of multi-billionaires would ever be able to afford them.
And the trifle of legality status wouldn’t stop those handful of multi-billionaires from acquiring nuclear weapons today if any really wanted them.
Amazon is where I expect to be able to buy my nuclear weapons when I make my bid to become a libertarian dictator. Plenty of people know that Amazon is the largest sex toy vendor in the world.
Few understand that Amazon use the same masking technology to hide their vast international arms business.
So the 55-gallon lube is actually enriched uranium?
Amazon will simply become the new government. I actually expect something like this if the country comes apart.
You can stay with Amazon, I’ll stick with Mr. Lee’s Greater Hong Kong.
Can I sign up for your newsletter?
I’d pay to see that world. The hysteria would be tremendous. Progressives are freaking out over a Koch-run investment fund buying out the publishers of the all-but-defunct Time magazine, because they could put a rightward spin on a publication that hasn’t been relevant or widely read in decades. And in any event is flagrantly, laughably leftist. Apparently it’s not undue influence when the editorial standard is Marxist, but the Kochs trying to make it profitable again by easing it back from the brink is wholly unacceptable.
Is that the same account that claimed North Korea is freer than the US?

Juhasz left the financial industry and New York in 2007, and things for financial-industry employees haven’t gotten much better since. Sure, the stock market keeps rising to new heights, but job growth hasn’t followed in kind; in fact, there are 11,900 fewer jobs in the industry now than there were in 2007, according to the annual Wall Street report from the New York State Comptroller’s office.
I wonder how many of those jobs “disappeared” and how many migrated to Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake City? Hell. Screw that, Jersey City.
Go hold this conversation in Charlottesville, the NC Triangle, Atlanta, Richmond, Boston or anywhere larger than a one-horse-town in TX, and you’ll find the jobs the NYSCO can’t find.
Richmond? SSSSHHHHHHH! I don’t want anymore prog motherfuckers moving down here from NY
A lot of them migrated to Jersey City.

“NEW VIDEO: After “Pocahontas,” Trump’s an ex-president waiting to happen – imminently. So this will be the last episode of #TheResistanceGQ.
Trump is Finished
And thus my work here is done.”
https://twitter.com/KeithOlbermann/status/935286652792078337
Well, old Shouty Olberman is right in a way. Trump is defs gonna be a former president – in 2024.
Hysterically shrieking that he’s a secret Russian spy who wants to commit genocide against Mexicans and walks around grabbing every woman he meets by the crotch as if it were a handshake didn’t do it. But mocking a white woman who pretended to be Indian to get favorable treatment at Harvard because nobody on their diversity committees has ever actually encountered a minority in their entire fucking lives… this will surely be the end of his presidency.
TRANSLATION: Things aren’t really going to shit and we can’t justify continuing to fund this Olbermann bullshit, so we’ll use this incident as a convenient jumping-off point.
LOLOLOLOLOL
Translation: “GQ got tired of my autistic shrieking and handed me my ass. Back to shouting at clouds.”
So how is this ex-president thing going to happen? I can only come up with a few options.
1) He is assassinated by someone who is offended (not likely)
2) He resigns (even less likely)
3) He is impeached and convicted of a crime (if “offending someone” was a crime, this would have happened by now)
Trump is getting Olbermann to remove himself from public life? Damn, man, much as I don’t want to like him, he just keeps giving me reasons to.
These geniuses don’t realize Lucy just pulled the football away again. Trump does this over and over, and they just can’t figure it out.
Because allofasudden Elizabeth Warren’s dreadful history of lying to get affirmative action is being talked about. Who is going to take more damage from this kerfuffle? I don’t think its Trump. His supporters are probably on a spectrum from “Don’t care” to “Way to stick it to Fauxcahontas”. He won’t lose a single vote or supporter over this.
But Lizzie’s Achilles’ heel has just been foregrounded again.
I almost lost it last night at a local diner. They had the TV on, tuned to CNN. For 1 hour, it was talking heads discussing Trump denying the Pussygate tape’s reality. For at least half an hour it was discussing his slur against native americans. I’m willing to bet that it was an hour, but we left only half an hour into it.
It was unfucking-believable. The people running CNN have the fucking impulse control and self discipline of an incontinent crack-whore.
These people aren’t resisting Trump. Not effectively, anyway. They are engaging in self-soothing emotional masturbation. In the meantime, they are ignoring real problems.
What I found most baffling and disheartening. People eat this shit up. They don’t turn off the dumpster-fire and do something productive. They don’t say “this is moronic and a waste of my time; I think I’ll do something else”.
According to the cable companies, people are watching this drivel!
But not many of them. CNN’s ratings have been terrible.
I still don’t get why those idiot on the left are harping about Pocahontas. All they’re doing is keeping in the news that Warren lied about her heritage for personal gain.

OK, so I posted on here about this a month or so ago but background refresher:
One of my buddies found out at that time that his wife is sterile. He wants bio-children and was thinking about throwing in the towel.
I have recently learned that he is following through on that and filed for divorce last week. I have no idea what the situation is between them, but I think it’s safe to assume there were other problems in the relationship. He is a college friend, not my oldest or best friend, but a pretty old and good one. I have, over the years, come to really like his wife and consider her a friend too. She is obviously very distraught over this and perceives it as an attack on her womanhood. I think this is a seriously dick move on his part. Is this a shunnable offense? Should I cut this friend off? Either way, it’s unlikely I’ll still be friends with the wife in the future, but this has colored my opinion of him. Glib opinions?
Every situation is different, but my gut instinct is to compartmentalize my relationships. In general, someone would have to do something truly awful – violence, thievery, something along those lines – for me to cut them off completely because of something that happened in their marriage.
Not the most chivalrous move, but I mean, if biological children are of prime importance in his life and she can’t have any, why shouldn’t he pursue what’s most important to him? That said, nobody’s entitled to your friendship. If it bothers you, cut him off. Life is way too short to waste on people you don’t want to spend time around.
There are other ways he can propagate. If her womb is a rocky place where his seed can find no purchase, go surrogacy, with either one of her eggs, if they are viable, or with one of the surrogate’s eggs. The “she can’t be birfin’ my babies” thing sounds like a pretext in this day and age.
This is kind of my feeling. Again, I can’t know what’s happening between them, but it seems like a lame excuse and he called it off rather flippantly.
You being his friend would have a better feel than us whether this is a genuine thing that is a reflection of his personal values (whether you agree with them or not) or whether it’s just a pretext and he wasn’t very committed in the first place. Either way though, I think JB nailed it: if this has changed your view of the guy to the point where you can’t respect him or you don’t want his company anymore, no sense in keeping him in your rolodex. I think people cling too hard to friendships that have burned out. If you don’t want to spend your time around the guy, for this or any other reason, let it go and don’t feel guilty about it. Fill your dance card with the people that you enjoy.
Word.
Go the Biblical route and buy a maid to impregnate.
But then his wife may miraculously get pregnant after all and demand the maid be sent away, and the descendants of the maid will go on to be the ancestor of a warlord and religious figure whose followers will have a massive feud with your wife’s descendants for generations. And you don’t want that, do you?
He’s a dawg.
What sort of relationships do you want to have separately with the barren future ex-wife and the dick husband?
Well, the relationship with the wife was mostly one of proximity. She’s nice, but I can’t see sustaining a friendship with her outside that context. So she’s likely out no matter what. The problem I have with my buddy is I now question his integrity. I’m probably going to cool it talking to him for a while and see how things shake out.
As a matter of integrity, if he has always made it clear that having bio-children is his highest value in life, he is maintaining integrity by divorcing her. If this is something that has become a higher value to him over time, that’s a somewhat different matter. Either way, I think he needs to pursue his own happiness, wherever that comes from.
See Dean’s comment above ^^^. They are both professionals making decent money so advanced reproductive tech should be an option. I think I’m most disturbed by how casual he’s acting about it and the fact that they only found out her chances of reproduction are slim to none a little over a month ago.
Maybe talk to him about it? My wife and I were not able to have children for this same reason and in the same situation (good incomes). Reproductive tech isn’t all it is cracked up to be. You can try it, but you rapidly reach a point where going any further means having at least triplets. Using a surrogate isn’t as simple as that. And who knows if the wife would even be willing to do that? It’s a terrible situation to be in.
I made a different decision from your buddy. But I can’t say he is wrong. That drive is a strong one. Maybe hear his side of it if you haven’t. Ultimately, if you can’t have a positive view of the guy due to this, it probably is best to stop spending time with him.
To channel a certain SNL personality, the timing makes me want to say “how conveeenient!” if it’s just a month,
I don’t doubt that there are other undercurrents at play here, and the infertility issue is simply the pretext for the breakup.
Speaking of integrity, he also (I assume) made a solemn vow to stay with her “through better or worse.”
That marriage sounds fucked beyond the kid thing. The fact that he would not consider adopting suggests that he may indeed be a dickwad.
I find that my life is better when I spend it with better people.
Relationships are personal and you have no idea what’s going on behind closed doors. If you don’t respect him though then you can’t really be his friend.
Also, is the chick that can’t get pregnant hot?
Pretty solid 7. And, no, I’m not going to take a run at her; I have my principles!
No condoms is one of mine. Just sayin’.
So less than a C-cup?
*opera applause*
You know me too well… definitely more of an ass on her and lacking a bit upstairs. Even still, principles!
The Almighty speaks the truth on this one.
Ditto this. Either he’s using infertility as an excuse, which is scummy but probably leaves them both better off, or he really is hardcore in his desires, in which case it’s no more fair to demand he change his mind than it would be a husband to demand his wife change her mind about not wanting kids. As long as those desires were made explicit, anyway.
I cant tell you what you should do, but I will tell you what I would do myself. Yeah, I’d shun the guy. When he got married he made a promise. He gave his word.
I think it’s safe to assume there were other problems in the relationship.
There is: hes cheating and found his excuse.
She is obviously very distraught over this and perceives it as an attack on her womanhood.
Because it is.
Glib opinions?
He’s an asshole and doesn’t deserve any friendship. I’m sorry, but kids are a blessing and sometimes it’s just not in the cards. And while I love my kids unconditionally, my wife is still my life partner. If something happened and we ended up not able to have biological kids, we’d have accepted it and adopted. People who refuse to accept their situation and seek solutions together aren’t committed to a partnership. They’re selfish assholes that use their spouse not as a partner but as a means to an end. They’ll turn their back on you a lot more readily than they will on the person who needs them the most.
What an asshole.
What an asshole.
Needz moar Christ.
I’ll go with the same thing I said last time – fuck this guy. Selfish piece of shit who is using something like this as an excuse. I’m sure it wasn’t pleasant news for the wife to learn she can’t have kids, and now this fuck is throwing it out there and using it as a chance to blame her to get out of his marriage.
Where is HM to say “Christ, what an asshole!” when you need him?
Not sure I’d actively cut it off, I’d just let it die on the vine.
Sometimes, sending “no message” conveys a very clear message, without appearing to stick your nose into a tragic scenario. Personally, I’d seek out the wife, since you really do consider she’s in the right, and offer “to be around” if she wants to talk, and see if she shows any commitment to maintaining a friendship.
/while making the Al Franken finger in circle thrusting motion.
You are a bad, bad person, Private Chipperbot.
And hence, I’ll shoot you last.
in all seriousness though, I’d be a little pissed at him. it seems like an excuse for some other issues, which may be a fine cause for divorce, but now he’s lying about the reasoning for that. which is worse.
I’m not sure ghosting him is a good idea, but I wouldn’t invite him anywhere.
I probably would not go all the way to shunning
That said I would make it known that you did not agree with what he did and he has damaged his reputation, possibly irreparably with you and would step back from being as involved with him.
For the record, I agree, assuming that he left her mostly because of the infertility it is a total dick move. I get wanting bio kids and even not having them being a total deal breaker but there are ways for him to have a bio kid that don’t require him to leave her and taking time to negotiate how that could work or jointly deciding that it can’t and seperating is a better course than just up and leaving.
Glib opinions?
The only kind I have.

“SARVER, Pa. (AP) — A couple who say they were handcuffed for hours in a police patrol car after their hibiscus plants were confused for marijuana are suing the police and an insurance company.
Edward and Audrey Cramer say in a lawsuit filed Tuesday that a Nationwide Insurance Co. agent investigating a fallen tree at their Buffalo Township home sent photos of their flowering plant to police. The lawsuit alleges that Buffalo Township police officers with assault rifles went to their home on Oct. 7 to investigate.
Audrey Cramer, 66, said she was partially dressed when she went to the door and police would not let her put on pants before she was handcuffed.
“I was not treated as though I was a human being,” she said. “I was just something they were going to push aside.”
Edward Cramer, 69, said he returned home a half-hour later to find his wife in the back of a police cruiser and officers pointing guns at him. He also was placed in the cruiser despite trying to convince the officers the plants were hibiscus, not marijuana.
“They actually ignored me,” he said. “They wouldn’t even listen. I said, ‘I can show you pictures on the internet.'”

We will win the war on plants comrades!
There is no way a functional adult could possibly mistake a hibiscus for marijuana. The article has a nice side-by-side. There are plants that you could conceivably confuse with marijuana, but hibiscus isn’t even close to being one of them.
With a halfway decent lawyer, they should make bank on this.
I’m no botanist but it’s not even close.
I’m curious what legal responsibilities insurers are under to snitch on their clients. This is just the sort of thing I could see being snuck in under cover of insurance regulation.
The PA Code shows nothing about being a spy for the cops: https://www.pacode.com/secure/data/031/chapter37/chap37toc.html
https://www.pacode.com/secure/data/031/031toc.html
I had an adjuster license, back in the day, in many states…I have not heard of a requirement for an adjuster to report suspicion of unlawful plants. This guy was a junior NKVD and thought he would be a hero for diming them out.
But … “If you see something … say something” is just being a good citizen, right?
I’m always reminded of Bruce Schneier’s quote:
Same holds true for narco investigators.
Welp, I hope Nationwide is ready to dole out some cash, then. It seems even less defensible that someone not even acting as a deputy of the state should assume the role for himself. But IANAL so whatever.
Nationwide is the CNN of botanists.
It was probably a Hibiscus coccineus, which, if not in bloom, is pretty similar to marijuana in both overall form and leaf shape, and could be reasonably mistaken by normal people, much less dumb-ass cops.
You’re probably thinking of the more common flowering shrub, which bears no resemblance.
Wait a minute.
I think I am a functional adult and I would have a hard time picking hibiscus and/or MJ out of a photo lineup.
I was never cool enough to run with the pot heads in high school, so I wouldn’t know what I was looking at.
Of course, I would never rat anyone out for MJ either. So my ignorance wouldn’t lead to stupidity like this.
Someone claimed yesterday that claims adjusters are required to report this stuff. If that is true then I’m sorry to see the couple waste their time on this lawsuit.
Report hibiscus plants?
If he genuinely thought it was the grass… why not? These regulations say you have to report anything “suspicious”.
Yeah, I know. I’m being bitchy and willfully obtuse.
If he genuinely thought it was the grass
Then he’s a fucking moron. Actions by fucking morons that harm other people are what tort law was invented for. Unless there is statutory immunity for making food faith reports, Nationwide is on the hook for this.
Wouldn’t surprise me. Claims is a pretty tightly regulated industry, and I can easily believe that there’s some sort of duty to report illegal activity.
Might want to be pretty damned sure of what you’re reporting, though.
Well, even so, reporting hibiscus as pot is so obviously, grossly, stupidly wrong that I’m sure its not required by anything. Honest mistake? Sure. Retard level gibbering? Not so much.
If they’re required to report, that seems like an area where adjustors should be trained. Nationwide agreed to abide by the state’s conditions for doing business.
And then there’s the matter of the fucking cops who are highly trained to recognize illegal substances. Even if the idiot Nationwide adjuster gets out of this, the cops have no excuse.
Other than the fact that cops can do anything they fucking want to up to and including murder, you mean.
Well, yeah. There’s that.
“Trained police”
“Military intelligence”
you get my drift
The trend of adding ‘narc’ to many people’s job descriptions really needs to stop.
Citation needed – this : https://www.pacode.com/secure/data/031/031toc.html does not have such.
That was me yesterday. Part of the sex trafficking training includes reporting any suspicion of such to authorities. Kristi House is the org that put together the training which includes…
Possible warning signs of commercial sexual exploitation of children:
porno mags, photos, videos in house
condoms, women’s apparel
narcotics, alcohol, weapons
mattresses on floor
*thinks back to my living conditions in college*
*or a few years after that*
How would you enforce something like this? As I said above, I wouldn’t recognize pot if it was growing in someone’s front yard. How could I be held liable for not recognizing an illegal substance? I’m not supposed to ever have it or use it, but somehow I should recognize it in public and report it to the police?
I’d say this absurdity should prove that there is no requirement, but being cynical I wonder if adjusters have to go to continuing education classes to recognize all sorts of drugs.
Similar experience. I had a darkroom in the house. Insurance guy saw chemicals in bottles and must have thought I had a meth lab. Cop shows up, a guy I went to HS with. He already knew I had a darkroom so we just shot the shit and caught up. It did occur to me that it could have been a lot worse if the cop hadn’t been someone that knew me.
I dont let people in my house unless they are family.

Anyone know anything about Litecoin? I’m really kicking myself for procrastinating on Bitcoin over the years but figure one of its competitors should have some potential and with what little I’ve looked into it, Litecoin looks like it could be just that. Thoughts?
You’re basically talking about currency speculation.
While its fun to think about, like buying a winning lottery ticket, its a great way to lose a bunch of money. If you want to speculate, no reason not to, but don’t put anything into it that you aren’t willing to lose without too much stress. The currency markets are probably the most dishonest and manipulated markets on the planet, and these new private e-currencies are hated by the governments that manipulate the sovereign currency markets.
My advice – buy some if you want, put it away and don’t think about it, but think of it like buying a lottery ticket at the gas station.
Cryptocurrency lotto tickets at greasy low-rent corner stores and gas stations–is this the sort of world libertarians want? I bet they’d sell you heroin, too.
I’m not talking about putting a fortune in it. Hundred bucks tops and sitting on it.
Go for it.
Litecoin has been around for a long time and is more stable than some of the newer cryptos (which seem to be popping up about 50 a week). Cheaper to get into as well. Silver to Bitcoin’s gold. That said, it’s crypto. Listen to RC Dean. Use it to buy crack on the dark web or treat it like your booze and poker money.
^This. I actually just sold half my Bitcoin to pickup Litecoin. Litecoin is at least a legit crypto as opposed to bullshit someone put out to just have dummies throw money at it. Either way, it’s gambling money.

I like how she’s portraying this guy as some kind of dunderhead because he is having trouble removing boots that are, by her own admission, elaborate. As if men are just expected to be familiar in-and-out with women’s ridiculously complicated habilements.
I’m sure she changes her own oil.
Also, maybe the fact that you’re wearing difficult to remove clothing solely for aesthetic purposes to a date where you ostensibly intend for them to be removed by someone else is an indication that you’re high-maintenance and more concerned with the image you portray to the world at large than your relationships with other people.
I tried to read that, but the crushing tedium of it had me running for the hills after just a few paragraphs. Why the hell would anyone care about this woman’s long-winded insecurities?
It’s funny because trying to read that article is exactly what I imagine trying to read Eat Pray Love or Wild would be like.
I also liked Reese Witherspoon more when she was starring in Freeway with Kiefer Sutherland.
YES! Freeway is such an unjustly overlooked movie. Witherspoon was awesome as the crazy trailer-trash girl.
I didn’t know that movie existed. Freeway-era Reese is pretty much tailor-made to convince me to make bad decisions.
Yup. There are prettier actresses, but one who looks like the adorable girl next door yet is a tough, foul-mouthed trashy chick? Irresistable.
I saw this in HBO and was like, “whoa!”.
But what does Kierkegaard have to say about boning down with a dude in a hotel room?
He would probably say that it’s a case of not wanting in despair to be oneself. This type of despair is refusing to accept any self beyond that which is immediate to the moment. This leads to an obsession with the finite, material world.
It just seems like certain things, like hooking up after a date, lend themselves better to trite cliches than philosophical musing. I mean, I’m no life-affirmed luminary able to quote Kierkegaard off the top of my head, but maybe she should have had that second glass of wine.
The column appears to me to be equal parts pseudointellectual posing (hence the Kierkegaard mention) and “middle aged woman yells at cloud”.
Could you imagine the dude in this story? “I’d had a couple drinks, she invited me back up to her room, I figured she’d understand why I was goofy about the boots. What the hell is this about Kierkegaard? And she stuck her tongue in my mouth after I ‘pressed my mouth to hers’!”
You’re both right. She got divorced. She wanted to get laid. There isn’t any greater philosophical meaning than that. It’s also such an unremarkable and commonplace that it certainly isn’t embodying any “you go girl!” ur-feminist nonsense. I think she can’t handle how prosaic her personal life is.

Also, why in the everloving world would anyone want to emulate “Wild”? The protagonist (antagonist?) becomes a heroin addict and repeatedly cheats on her seemingly devoted husband. She then somehow rationalizes that it’s his fault.
I think you answered your own question.
Girl has agency, sticks self-empowered thumb in eye of patriarchy and wins.
The End.
Incidentally, that heroin addiction? She didn’t build that.
From the farmers, to the lab staff, to the mules and the guys guarding the shipment, to the pushers and their network, pretty much all men.
“You Are Almost Definitely Sharing Memes Made By Nazis”
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/aepbzb/is-it-ethical-to-source-dank-memes-from-nazi-mines
Old article, but still.
Well, those fuckers will also have some of the oxygen molecules Hitler literally breathed, in their lungs, at this very moment, making their arguments invalid, so there!
Now, about these Nazi memes, are they literally memes created by, like real Nazis? I’d find it far more credible if they could point me at Himmler’s Snapchat page or something …
You think Trump’s twitter is an endless source of comedy? Wait till you get a load of @Reichsführer-SS!!
Also, this guy should be kicked in the balls every time he says “dank”.
I don’t know Lefties, you tell me: is it ethical to copy several major points from the Nazi Party Platform like government-funded healthcare, tuition-free college, an old-age pension system, nationalization of major industries, and extensive regulation of the entire economy with particular attention to finance?
There’s a difference between sourcing an occasional dank meme and plagiarizing an entire manifesto.

I have been on the bad end of scrums like that… 🙁
“I Unknowingly Went to a Trump Protest Organized by Russian Agents
My understanding of protests changed after recently discovering the origins of a “Not My President” march I attended a few days after Trump’s election.
I hadn’t thought about the protest in months, until a series of releases from the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence brought it back to my attention on November 1, 2017, nearly a year later. According to one release, the original Facebook event for this “Not My President” protest I’d attended had been created by BlackMattersUS, an account believed to be run by people connected to the Russian government hoping to interfere with American politics.”
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/ywb9kx/nyc-trump-election-protest-hack-russian-agents-trolls-government
Alright, but I’m only going to read until the first “to be sure” masquerading as mea culpa.
Not to worry, sweetheart, nobody is faulting you for taking a heroic stand against Trump. They’ll be sharpening the knives for publicly questioning the narrative that Putin was purely interested in head-faking Republicans.
So, being manipulated by Russians into attending a protest is totes understandable, but being manipulated by Russians into voting for someone is NOT OK!
If they’d acknowledge the flimsiness of the evidence that Russian ads had any appreciable effect, I’m willing to concede that it doesn’t really matter who started this or that group. They were bound to spring up because politics is a sport for twits and there’s no bigger twit than someone who turns out on a sunny afternoon to mill about with other twits holding signs. But they’re clinging to the Russian ad buy because it exonerates their own shitty candidate and their ruinous image problems.
I applaud the Russians for finding the most efficient way to make people who can’t generate an original thought do exactly what they want.
Cognitive dissonance has to be strong there. Because I’d wager heavily that this person completely missed the point.
Considering she spends paragraph after tedious paragraph explaining what a protest is–you know, people milling about until some locus forms and then marches, like, wowee, this is something never witnessed before–it seems pretty clear she’s more interested in reveling in the memory than questioning why the left is doing Putin’s groundwork, gratis.
Did the Russians provide the giant paper-mache heads?
So the Russians threw the election to Trump by organizing an anti-Trump protest after the election. That is some serious 5 dimensional chess.
But what does Kierkegaard have to say about boning down with a dude in a hotel room?
I had a friend, long ago. He thought Diary of a Seducer was the ultimate how-to manual.
Many moons ago, I had a female friend who viewed Justine the same way.
Krugabe writhes to and fro in the miasma of his TDS
One thing is clear, however: One way or another, the bill would hurt most Americans. The only big winners would be the wealthy — especially those who mainly collect income from their assets rather than working for a living — plus tax lawyers and accountants who would have a field day exploiting the many loopholes the legislation creates.
The core of the bill is a huge redistribution of income from lower- and middle-income families to corporations and business owners. Corporate tax rates go down sharply, while ordinary families are nickel-and-dimed by a series of tax changes, no one of which is that big a deal in itself, but which add up to significant tax increases on almost two-thirds of middle-class taxpayers.
Sad.
Good thing the only people who listen to him are True Bleevers.
add up to significant tax increases on almost two-thirds of middle-class taxpayers.
Important terms need defining.
Why define them when they are complete lies, regardless of the definition. He know that they are lies. He’s not the fool that he makes out to be in his column; he’s simply deranged.
“add up to significant tax increases on almost two-thirds of middle-class taxpayers.”
So almost as bad as Obamacare then.
“The core of the bill is a huge redistribution of income from lower- and middle-income families to corporations and business owners. ”
Wait, so this bill would make the normies send money to corporations and fat cats? Oh, you just mean that the corps and moneybags would be able to keep more of their own money.
I didn’t read the article, but I hope Krugabe also talked about how the tax cuts need to be “paid for”.
We can pay for it by minting a trillion dollar coin.
especially those who mainly collect income from their assets rather than working for a living
you know, smart people.
plus tax lawyers and accountants who would have a field day exploiting the many loopholes the legislation creates.
wait, are we talking the ACA?
You might wonder how such a thing could possibly pass the Senate. But that’s where the scamming comes in.
okay, now i know we’re talking about the ACA.
what’s fucking hilarious is he posts a link to the tax bill’s effects in calendar year 2027 which shows a very modest uptick in taxes. i wonder why he didn’t post the tax bill’s effects in calendar year 2019… hmmmmm could it be because it’s a fucking overwhelming tax cut? http://www.taxpolicycenter.org/model-estimates/senate-tax-cuts-and-jobs-act-passed-committee-finance-nov-2017/t17-0274-major
Tax cuts = the Patriarchy

sploosh
I’ll admit; not what I thought it was going to be.
I’m tricky like HM, but my links are different.
I’ve been meaning to ask you; if a person were interested in learning locksmithing as a second career, what would your advice be? I used to see adds in magazines for correspondence courses; are you familiar with any of those? It’s something I’ve always been interested in, but going to school, (even if there were one near me) or even apprenticing, are really out of the question for me at this point.
Maybe I’m asking things that will be in your impending Glibs article? 😉
BTW, I have a lockpick set and practice lock in my Amazon wish-list. I”m anxiously waiting for a family member to see it and ask me WTF?
Wow. Not even ‘asking for a friend’.
Incidentally, it’s funny you should mention your family members. my daughter nearly lost a boyfriend when he found her using a rake on a 6-pin Schlage last month. She recovered the situation by noting that police personnel and locksmiths not only own picks, but are adept with them.
I can’t see the relationship lasting long-term though. He’s far too deferential to the state.
I have scared a few women off at bars when the conversation turns to what I do.
“Freelance Assassin” really is an unappreciated profession, isn’t it?
you know, I hadn’t thought of that, but it could work.
I can break into places, know how alarms and security systems work, can drive cars and navigate, and am a decent shot.
I guess I need to work on rock climbing and fake passports.
Well, getting a trainer and learning parkour wouldn’t be a bad idea, and in the trade, legends are constructed by people who specialize in research and fiction-writing.
Getting a ‘cover’ US passport would require on forgery, but you could get any of a number of legitimate passports quite inexpensively from certain small and economically-embarrassed countries.
Could you pass for a Saudi or a Liberian? Or the ever-popular Somali?
Too Irish.
That’s an option too.
If I had caught a girlfriend picking a lock, I probably would have dropped to one knee on the spot and asked her to marry me! Sexy.
“Sweetie, you can rake my tumbler any time. Mrrowr.”
I’d say something about the right key baby and the wrong key hole, but this is the daughter I’m talking about here, not ENB.
I’m writing one now on lockpicking, but could start to expand it a bit.
There are trade shows that have classes, and I’d be happy to get a list of them together. Vegas and Orlando stick out in my head for locations. I’ll start looking through my old books and magazines, too. apprenticeship, although not something you’re looking for, really is the easiest way. I’ve never seen one that treats it like an unpaid internship, so while money would be tight, it is achievable.
At this point I’m looking for an employable (and enjoyable) skill, completely unrelated to my current profession that could be a second source of income, with the possibility of it become a new career at some point in the future. Having a full-time job makes an apprenticeship difficult. But I do work four 10’s and have most Friday’s off, so it is a possibility…
Glad to hear you’re working on an article. I look forward to it and I’ll take any advice you are willing to share.
I was making some side cash by grabbing a pin kit to new-ish toyotas and pimping myself on some forums. It was cheap to get, no special tools needed, and I worked from home rekeying door and ignition locks together after someone broke a door on a tree or got a car stolen on the off road sites.
Yesterday, someone linked to a story about the kerfluffle in Denver wherein a bunch of people went into full offended mode because a coffee shop put up a jokey sign about helping to gentrify a neighborhood. Well, the protesters are only a few days in and have already hit the French Revolution phase…
http://www.denverpost.com/2017/11/27/ink-coffee-closed-five-points-protesters-gentrification-ire-toward-denver-city-council-albus-brooks/
Sleep with hipsters, wake up with a boycott.
Replace the sandwich board with “happily ensuring our neighborhood stays shitty since 2017”.
Tomorrow they will bitch because their neighborhood is a coffee desert.
Meh. Coffee in its proletarian form is ubiquitous – it’s how Dunkin’ Donuts make the payroll.
This would be a chai latte pumpkin spice desert, a far more problematic development. A holocaust, really, if you tug your chin and frown about it.
The dog in the manger speaks:
“I think that’s a success for the community,” Tay Anderson, who organized a protest in front of ink! that brought out about 200 people Saturday, said of the shop remaining closed. “We occupied the street, we occupied the sidewalk and we let people know that we won’t stand for corrupt politicians pushing black and brown residents out to gentrify our neighborhoods.”
I guess that means you won’t vote for the incumbent next time, Tay
The implication is that gentrification can’t include black people. The black middle class doesn’t exist because we all know that all blacks are poor.
Just slightly racist.
Everyone knows that bad neighborhoods with lots of poor people are exclusively inhabited by darkies. It also follows the identity property in that darkies can’t exist outside of bad neighborhoods with poor people. Therefore, wypipo moving in is literally erasing the darkies’ existence. QED muthafucka.
Eliminationist migration, aided by the likes of Atlas Van Lines and U Haul whose vast fleets of provocatively painted vehicles perpetuate the violence upon the poor by transporting nazi soft furnishings and carpets of privilege from the gated communities of white racists into places like Apt. 1622B, Malcolm X Bvd, Flint, MI. in a premeditated act of gentrification.
Dibs on the band name
You know they’ll sound shitty like Three Doors Down or Bind Melon.
I hope Krugabe also talked about how the tax cuts need to be “paid for”.
Something something whatabout something.
Also, “I know you are, but what am I?”

“The Navajo Code Talkers are not pawns to advance a personal grudge…
if you’re going to attend a political event, then you should really just accept that you’re a pawn.
This is why it’s so frustrating to see Lefty politicians trotting out families of people who were killed in mass shootings. Those people are suffering horribly, and the Democraps capitalize on that suffering by whispering in their ear about all these magical laws that might have stopped it from happening.
we won’t stand for corrupt politicians pushing black and brown residents out to gentrify our neighborhoods.
*Jeff Bezos uncaps his red magic marker, crosses Denver off list*
That would be wonderful. Imagine the press release:
“Amazon is looking for a business-friendly city that will welcome our investment and employees. Unfortunately, recent events show that Denver is not that city. So, Austin it is!”
Isn’t that kind of racist? What do they mean by “brown”?
Pakistani? Cambodian? Inuit?
http://www.igmchicago.org/surveys/tax-reform-2
here are the economists from Krugabe’s link that weighed in with their opinions on whether the tax bill would raise GDP. respondents also provided their confidence level (1-10).
the “disagree” group really feels confident that tax cuts won’t raise GDP. hey surprise surprise Austan Goolsbee (Obama’s former Budget Director) has a 10 for confidence and “strongly disagrees” with the added snarky comment “Of course not. Does anyone care about actual evidence anymore?”.
any economist that confident about anything is lying out their ass or is functionally retarded. Goolsbee has the benefit of being both.
So the guy that thinks a fake alien invasion is the way to stimulate the economy also thinks that lowering taxes will not. After 8 years of Obama shoveling sand in the gears I truly with these guys would shut up and go fuck themselves.
/every progtard, ever
they’ve done a fantastic job infiltrating economics and academia, in general, to the point where they will be providing “expert” TOP MEN soundbites for the foreseeable future.
I have a lockpick set and practice lock in my Amazon wish-list. I”m anxiously waiting for a family member to see it and ask me WTF?
Be sure to add a black silk ninja mask, a case of duct tape and a thousand-pack of tyraps.
I like the way you think.
55-gallon drum of lube, too.
It also follows the identity property in that darkies can’t exist outside of bad neighborhoods with poor people. Therefore, wypipo moving in is literally erasing the darkies’ existence. QED muthafucka.
It’s teh GENOCIDE!
my daughter nearly lost a boyfriend when he found her using a rake on a 6-pin Schlage last month.
What a dope.
“SWEET! Teach me how to do that.”
No shit. My first thought is “It’s Bonnie and Clyde time!”
There’s a bit of jealousy/envy going on there. She has a another male friend at college who doesn’t seem to be horning in on the boyfriend’s territory, but is having quite an ideological impact on my daughter, with stuff like lock picking, personal electronic security etc; so, I’m anticipating a possible upset there in the future. But they’re young and she’s resilient – she’ll be fine.
I credit the interloper with my daughter’s change of heart on learning to shoot, doing a basic-level EMT course and some of the more practical skills she’s been acquiring.
Arrange a marriage.
“Freelance Assassin” really is an unappreciated profession, isn’t it?
“Will there be meetings?”
Speaking of tax cuts and their effect on GDP- the dumbest person in Accounting 101 should be able to figure out that a reduction in income will lead to a reduction in spending. In the government’s case, there will not be a one-to-one effect, because that tax revenue will be at least partially offset by borrowing.
Second order effects are harder to specify.
Just got an email from the badge guy at my new company with orientation and security info!!! SQUEEEEEE!!!!
I hate to ask, but didn’t you already know your orientation?
Never say never, my man 😉
We never doubted for a second that if the entire damn dirty Russian Olympic team can dope and not pee positive, then you were a shoe-in.
This is the Drupal gig, right?
Yep…got some reading to do After I read the mountain of orientation docs they sent me.
Drupal – is awfully like RuPaul, but with more D.
Isn’t it a wonderful feeling when you find out that you’ve been worrying over nothing?
Story of my life – various levels of panic, followed by relief (most of the time. I did know I was getting fired from my last gig, despite everyone telling me I was wrong)
Sweet!
Gonna spark a bowl to celebrate?
Can neither confirm nor deny such activities.
Congratulations! It really sounds like you deserve it!
