Any Bulls fans out there? What’s up with your boy Ben Gordon? Dude needs some meds, pronto! Eli Manning is about to take a seat. The coaching carousel in college football continues, as does the dumpster fire at Tennessee after Mike Gundy said “no thanks.” Curious thing about Tennessee and Gundy, is their lack of outrage about a coach who brought a convicted child sexual assaulter into his program. But their whole Schiano outrage was based on his tenuous at best (if you take seriously a third-hand account made a giant pussy trying to feel better about failing to stop a rape he personally saw) relationship to the Sandusky child sex abuse, right? Sure it was. Stay classy, and irrelevant, Tennessee football. All the way to hiring a local high school coach, if you’re lucky. The latest CFP poll came out last night. Bama 5 and Ohio State 8. With a pair of teams between them that will either win and get in or lose and drop out. So there’s basically nothing between them. And the committee said there was very little separating 5 through 8. What does that mean if the Buckeyes beat #4 Wisconsin? Who knows, but I’ll sure be pulling for TCU anyway.
Across the pond, ManUre beat Watford in a wild one. WBA and Newcastle drew. As did Crystal Palace and Brighton. The big game was Leicester taking Spurs down 2-1 in a game that was nowhere near as close as the score indicates. More EPL games today, including Liverpool-Stoke and Everton-West Ham in a battle of basement dwellers.
Busy schedule in the NHL yesterday. The Lightning blanked the Sabres. Isles bested the Canucks. Sharks beat the Flyers. Panthers beat the Rangers. Blue Jackets over the Hurricanes in a shootout. The Kings thumped the Red Wings. The Leafs extinguished the Flames. The Dallas Stars beat the Army, I mean Vegas, Golden Knights. The Oilers greased the Coyotes in OT and the Blackhawks got back to their recent run of form in falling to the Predators.
Got it? Good. Moving on! And by on, you know I mean to…the links!
New Jersey man does something interesting. I hope he’s proud of himself!
San Francisco government disregards perfectly legal sale of property, ignores all legal precedent…and is applauded by the masses. I hope this is overturned but I don’t have much confidence in Commiefornia.
So Oceans 11 was full of shit. Apparently it is possible to simply walk up and rob casino. Still an enjoyable movie though.
A real rags to riches story. Of course, it helps when you literally have immunity from insider trading laws. Also, “left-leaning” might be a tad of an understatement.
And the latest big name in the sexual abuse scandal to drop is………Matt Lauer! Matt, come on down and see what you’ve won.
Go ahead and call it a bloodbath. Most people that have lived near those creatures would call it a good start.
Want to hear something stupid? Well here you go.
Also, McCain looks to be the deciding vote on tax reform, which doesn’t give me much hope. The Norks claim to have nukes that can reach D.C. Brexit is getting messy. And last but not least, Terry McAuliffe and Hillary Clinton’s brother are being sued for a shitload of money after allegedly scamming Chinese investors in a green-car “project”.

Have a great day, friends.

90) You know what’s frustrating? Sitting in traffic on a highway for an extra 30-60 minutes getting to work because some asshole wasn’t paying attention and ran into the railing, blocking multiple lanes of one of the busiest roads in the area.
As I was stewing and wondering why I had to sit doing nothing without having my time compensated it occurred to me—well, why aren’t I being compensated? If the driver through his own negligence has caused, say, 10,000 drivers to lose one hour each, and we have an average wage of, say, $30 an hour, why isn’t he charged that money? Since E-Z Pass is tracking our road use anyway, it should be easy to simply transfer my $30 to my E-Z Pass account.
Should cut down on distracted or reckless driving if the person responsible actually has to pay for the damage they cause, no?
Slow down there. More than likely, its the brave first responders that have caused most of the delay as well as rubberneckers. It shouldn’t take more than a few minutes, unless there are injuries, to clear an accident off the road. And simple math tells me that if you have four lanes and it usually takes five minutes to drive five miles on the road, if you cut it back to two lanes, it should take no more than ten.
Blame everybody else on the road. That guy who had the accident might have increased the commute by a couple minutes at the most, its everybody else out there who are incapable of not rubbernecking as well as the people who work for the government taking forever to clear it up that are the real culprits.
There are procedures that must be followed!!!!11!!!!1
You sir, are management material…
A couple years ago I finally got around an accident on I-40 that by all appearances involved a single car in a non-fatal spinout. Maybe there had been another car involved that had already been towed, I don’t know. But in any event, five officers were standing gabbing behind the unimpressively damaged sedan occupying three lanes of the highway. To this day I suspect it was petty revenge for the indictment of the two officers who murdered James Boyd.
Hey when guys in Japan jump on the tracks to commit suicide and snarl up the commute for hours, the surviving family has to pay for it.
As a member of a domineering species I applaud your proposed punishment for such extreme stupidity. (I would have preferred to see something along the lines of shot onsite while the car is bull-dozed off to the side. But you know)
Anywho perhaps a more palatable remedy would be make a “Rush hour accident registry” complete with special shame inducing license plates?
The premise is simple. If they are found to be at fault in an accident between the hours of 7am-10am and 3:30-6:30 pm. Then here’s your new license plate, and go register.
“(I would have preferred to see something along the lines of shot onsite while the car is bull-dozed off to the side. But you know)”
This solution also occurred to me.
Then here’s your new license plate, and go register.
You have to go tell all your neighbors that you live in the area.
My commute is 35 minutes out of which about 28 are walking and 7 (including the waiting) are spent in the subway for two stops. I don’t mind the walking and given the subway can be crowded the fact that I only spend an actual 4 minutes in the train makes it bearable. Although last year when it was -20 (Celsius ya heathens) it was rather uncomfortable walk, but those temperatures rarely last more than a week or two in Bucharest
I bet the 3;30 train is packed as everyone tries to get back behind closed doors before sunset.

The Matt Lauer allegations must be pretty credible. She brought her story to the brass Monday night and he was fired sometime Tuesday.

Gilmore hardest hit? (Do check out the picture accompanying the obituary.)
Clearly someone at the Post is a glib reader.
Gilmore had mentioned it – note his avatar was/is wearing a black armband.
I thought the armband was a real nice touch. Classy.
Somebody else mentioned it before Gilmore, too.
Well now at least I know who that is in his avatar.
From the thumbnail I always assumed it was a dapperly dressed alien or a superhuman with an enormously large head.
Matt Lauer always set my Gaydar off, but the set I got doesn’t work very well.
He must’ve known his time was coming when the panic got into full steam.

I’ve never forgiven Knoxville since my girlfriend was driving through the city as I took a nap in the passenger seat, only to be awakened by one thousand honking horns. Apparently we’d passed a billboard reading “Honk if you support Peyton Manning for the Heisman Trophy.”
That wasn’t a billboard. It was Peyton himself and they had written it on his forehead and put him on the side of I-75 as a prank.
?????
Hey, Peyton deserved that award. At least you didn’t drive through when Kiffin left. She might have woke up to a flaming mattress hitting the car

The world’s slowest, most boring bus simulator finally has a VR version
Funny. If they wanted a truly boring drive they should have picked Tucson to San Diego.
Or, you know, hunt them?
There are probably rules like this elsewhere, but up in rural mountain counties here, you can actually get a roadkill permit. The cops/highway patrol will actually notify you when an animal has been hit and you can go harvest whatever meat is still good. I know of one semi-recluse family that partly survives the winter on that.
In Tennessee it’s legal to eat roadkill. I think. You smash a deer, call the police to make your accident report, then dress it and toss it in the truck bed to process later. I have never personally done it, but I have relatives who have.
To me, it just makes sense. Some stupid deer destroyed the front end of your car, you eat him (or her) as compensations. It’s the law of the jungle.
Cars are the natural predator of deer, after all.
Roadkill can be problematic to harvest. I have cleaned deer that have been hit and often a good portion of the meat is ruined from being crushed.
I think you mean “tenderized”.
I prefer to use saline as a brine, not engine coolant.
I often feel the same thing after doing my job.

“Modern technology should make it simple to warn the train drivers.”
Warn them to do what? They can’t stop, trains take a lot of time and room to do that, and if they brake far enough back to stop the animal has likely already moved. Blow the whistle? If the animal is too stupid to notice a locamotive coming they deserve to hit. Only thing I can think of is warning onboard hunters that it’s target practice time.
They should mount a remote turret on the leading train element and hat an AI program that shoots anything on the tracks to smithereens?
Doesn’t the article say that the deer that were killed were owned by a shepherd? If so, that’s a different problem than large wild herd. Its a property and trespass issue that is usually solved with laws and norms about fence in / fence out and liability.

18, 19, 28, 29 and 36 has great melons.
Boob fact: Almost all women have one slightly larger than the other and in the majority of cases it’s the left one.
Boob fact: About 1% of women report the ability to orgasm from breast stimulation alone. Feel like seeing if your lady is one of the lucky ones? About a week and a half after her period ends is the most likely time.
Boob fact: Related to above, even absent orgasm, nipple stimulation releases oxytocin, the happy lovey-dovey hormone. So if you want your lady to feel more bonded to you, that’s your ticket.
Wow! Thanks!
I must be lucky, because more than 1% of women I’ve been with could orgasm from breast stimulation.
So, one of the two?
I walked into that one.
Pretty sure that qualifies as assault, even if she did get off.
I had a girlfriend like that once. That was fun.
Yet, in spite of the fact that women can actually orgasm from their stimulation, breasts are not sexual and must be de-sexualized in Western culture because shitlords.
This may require some research….

Unless I’m reading it incorrectly, SF was the seller and they had basically stolen the property. The sale was “legal”, but it was utter bullshit.
It was a private area. The tax bill had not been paid in years. They sent notices and posted the sale as required by law and the people bought it.
San Fran screwed the pooch here, not the buyers. But they’re being deprived the right to the property they legally purchased. Why should they be fucked over because the city fucked up?
FYTW
Notices on a website and in a newspaper are hardly sufficient. The back taxes were only $994. If anyone in that neighborhood had actually known, do you really think they’d refuse to pay only $994 to prevent it being auctioned off?
Plus (and I know everyone here isn’t an anarchist and won’t completely agree), taking property for failure to pay taxes is evil.
It happens to the lessors all the time, every day in every city. Now that this happened to a group of people who can afford the lawyers to take up the case it’s unjust?
Too bad, so sad.
…taking property for failure to pay taxes is evil.
Yes, it is. And it happens all the time. Invalidating this sale isn’t going to get them to stop doing it. You can bet your house that if you owed $50 in back taxes, they’d be having a sheriff’s sale. They’re making an exception here because the people who didn’t pay taxes are very wealthy and very connected politically. This reversal is nothing more than a FYTW.
Notices on a website and the newspaper are sufficient in addition to sending a certified letter to the address of the property owner. Furthermore, they got bill after bill after bill and I’m sure they were sent late notices as well.
I have no sympathy for the previous owners. They got treated the same way poor people are treated every day. The only reason this is news, as ChipsnSalsa said, is because it’s a landmark area where a bunch of rich people live.
What’s gonna happen to the people who bought it properly under the system in place? Will they be compensated or just fucked over because they followed the law but a few rich people were negatively impacted so their purchase simply voided?
I missed anything about the certified letter to the owners. If that’s true, then I have less sympathy. But they probably just figured an accountant would handle it, since one always had been. I’m not going to give people too much grief for not knowing everything about taxes.
As far as poor people, yeah, they get fucked too. That’s a bad justification for fucking rich people.
I don’t care if Cheng and Lam get compensated. In my opinion, they knowingly bought stolen property.
I completely agree with you. The fact that the people who were winked were rich doesn’t make doing the right thing (not stealing property) wrong. If people have a complaint with the responsiveness of government to the Injustices they bring on the rich, that’s a problem with government, not an excuse to abuse the rich.
I’ll also argue the same with tax deductions. Anything that lets people keep more of there money is good, is wrong to take more of their money.
Maybe the certified letter, but a notice in the newspaper and on a website? Very few people read the newspaper anymore, especially the local rag. I also don’t see how being on a website is helpful unless it’s posted on one a person actually visits regularly.
As for multiple letters in the mail, I don’t know. I just got a third notice from my bank that I need to sign some sort of form. No idea about the first two letters. I called the bank and told them that they need to call or email me in the future if they are waiting on me for something. Snail mail is a non-starter. I get 30 pieces of junk mail for every 1 legit item, and that 1 legit item often gets hidden/burned in the junk mail.
That’s not to excuse this couple from paying their bill, and the certified letter may have been ample notice. Defunct newspapers, never visited gov websites, and obsolete snail mail aren’t suitable methods of notification for seizing someone’s home.
This wasn’t a home. It was a street that the homeowners on the street formed a group to purchase and maintain. The street was sold because the owners didn’t pay the tax bill.
Nobody had their home taken away. This is a case of rich people not paying their bill and having their property sold to someone who said they’ll be responsible enough to maintain and pay it.
I’m no fan of confiscating property over failure to pay taxes. But I’m also no fan of double-standards being applied because a group happen to be rich.
Right a street, not a home. Can I blame the percocet-laced cough syrup for that one? SSD and co are all sick today.
They have to pay taxes on a street?! I could be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure that doesn’t happen around here. The county is usually happy to let the neighbors take over expense of maintenance and responsibility for side roads.
As I noted above, I don’t see how something that is wrong is made better by applying it to everyone? I want to put some analogy but everyone I think of sounds so ridiculous, if be accused of putting up strawman.
I understand the feelings of fairness under the law, but when someone hasn’t done anything actually wrong, then it’s hard to get me worked up about someone using their wealth to help them from being victims of government.
My broader point is this: this happens every day to poor people. Unevenly applying a law and letting rich people circumvent it won’t get it changed. Only even application of the law will ever result in it being overturned.
See: drug possession laws or any other quasi-prohibition ever implemented.
Jennifer Connelly was so beautiful in House of Sand and Fog.
taking property for failure to pay taxes is evil.
*rifles through archive looking for my “property taxes are the most evil taxes” article*
*gives up because it’s really hard to search and link on the phone*
Tax sales are complicated. Few people understand them. Most people rush down to the auction, plunk their money down and think they bought land on the cheap. Here in Louisiana all you have done is gotten yourself a tax lien on that property. You rarely get your money back and the tax lien can be redeemed by the owner at will for three years after the sale. It is almost impossible to sue and get possession of property you have a lien on. The best you can really hope for is interest on your money.
There is probably a lot more to this story. I doubt the journalist has any idea about tax law, lesion and moiety, court procedure, etc.
It sounds like this journalist has the common misconceptions to me.
Bravo Sloppy, I skimmed the links and didn’t want to headbutt anyone like yesterday. These links are a success

I hope you’re happy. I specifically tried to find some relatively happy links or at least links that there might be a good guy in or the taking down of a real chord (see: Guttierez and Lauer). I was partially successful, which is the best we can hope for in these troubled times.
I couldn’t be happier. I know what you mean, it’s why I don’t watch the news anymore.

-National Lampoon gave it an interesting treatment:
The May 1981 issue of National Lampoon featured a parody titled “Invasion of the Money Snatchers”; the gentile population of Whiteville is taken over by pastrami sandwiches from outer space and turned into Jews.

Too true.
Is that supposed to be parody? My son runs a business and tells me he gets that shit all of the time. His opinion of his own generation is….not high.
To be absolutely fair….that one-on-one interview seemed to take place at 9pm on the owner’s porch.
That *is* a bit odd.
Eh, this stereotype fits for a few people I’ve met, but most of my generation isn’t like that. There are other traits my generation shares that are way more pervasive and irritate me a lot more.
That being said, I have met a few women that act exactly like this. But I’ve also met a few people from older generations that are just as entitled and useless.
Matt Lauer does not have a reputation as a decent person, so no surprise.

I am really enjoying Mexico. This is my first visit (excluding border towns). Awesome weather, took a cooking class, more beach time today.
Where are you?
Mexico.
*stares blankly at Tundra*
lol
Yes, but *where* are you?
*baleful gaze*
Growing up in a border state meant I spent a *lot* of time before age 21 going to border towns to get drunk (before the drug wars got going in earnest). However, I got giardia in Cancun about 10 years ago and I will never go back.
I also spent a lot of time crossing the border to get drunk. In Canada.
I’m in the Cancun area and using bottled water for brushing my teeth etc. No tap water.
No drinks with ice either. What got me was fresh fruit and veggies.
I’ve never had a problem there. Maybe the tequila killed all the bugs.
Glad you’re having fun in Cancun, Tulip! I love Mexico.
Now that I think about it, I never had an issue there either. Odd.
This always bothers me. I’ve been in tons of countries that I love/worship/respect their food and they all have really cool cooking classes. All the SE Asian countries would’ve been great. I actively resent myself for not doing one in Morocco or Turkey.
Well. I assume they’re cool. Cooking is one of my passions and I cook pretty much all my own food here. But the idea of a cooking class hits all of my omnipresent anxiety checkboxes. It terrifies me so much that I laugh at going at one because I know that I never will.
Sad!
I’m sorry you can’t go. It was sort of a Mexican Good Eats. She (the instructor) had helpers who 1) held up a map while she explained Mezcal and Tequila regions and 2) brought semi prepped items to us at exactly the right moments. Seriously, I gotta get me a Lupe. Guy was handsome and did the kitchen scut work with a gorgeous smile.
My brother is in Cabo right now visiting his wife’s family. It’s gorgeous this time of year.
Trial by Twitter
Yes, my behaviour was poor — but being lumped in with Harvey Weinstein is hard to take
Apparently this mammal is not pleased to lie in the bead he has made.
This is a riot for me. They used this tactic to go after Cosby, O’Reilly, Moore, Hannity etc before this monster got out of their control and now it is eating ten of them a day. Of course they understand the importance of due process now. There is such a huge financial incentive for making claims of sexual impropriety I dont see how this is going to stop.
Of course they understand the importance of due process now.
Too bad that the Mitt Romneys and Ben Shapiros of the world don’t.
Of course they understand the importance of due process now.
From what this guy wrote, the pathetic thing is, no, they don’t.
Well then he should sell the bead to Elizabeth Warren in exchange for her land.
In principle, I should feel some sympathy for this guy. But, I don’t. Not in the least. The truth is, even now that he is the target of the Twitter mob for the “crime” of trying to kiss a girl he had drinks with in a bar, he still fundamentally supports them, just not toward him. Well, sorry, Ace, but if the Twitter mob are the champions of justice, they’ve deemed you a villain. Who the hell are you to decide what the gravity of your offense is? If they decide the only difference between you and Harvey Weinstein is that you didn’t have his power, well, what the hell standard are you holding out to say they’re wrong. This is the world you wanted and still want. Sorry you find it uncomfortable.
Yeah. These people are supprised that they are getting held to the ‘standard’ they are trying to ram down society.
The thing is, they don’t even learn from it. You’d think that, when something like this happened to them, they’d step back and say “Wait, this incredibly unfair. I didn’t realize I was supporting this. This has to stop. This has to change.”
The thing is, he’s not. He’s still championing the glories of #metoo. He’s still insisting that the lives of less woke people being destroyed is okay.
Well, if all of that is true, he really doesn’t have any complaints.
It is lovely to see them hoisted on their own petards.

i don’t care if it’s right.
I think it is silly that that bothers you.
you bastard
Good point. I don’t think the second “had” changes the meaning, so I should have deleted it as well.
The whole thing is poorly written. #metoo is just an excuse to jettison this shitty writer.
The past perfect definitely has a different meaning.
Christ, its now completely 100% unacceptable to misread social cues from 1 of the 2 (yes, 2) genders. If you misread a social cue from a woman, prepare to have your life ruined. Obviously this doesn’t apply to actual sexual assault or rape – that’s different. But a denied kiss? Common, I’ve had a girl say “no” to a kiss from me after a date and turn her cheek. It was embarrassing, but I accepted it and moved on. Now you’re telling me that she can find me on twitter, 5 years after the fact, and publically shame me? Fuck you.
The tough part (as its always been) is separating the crazies from the normal women. But now its absolutely imperative. You not only have to be able to tell which ones are insane and might try to destroy your career for misreading their level of affection, but now you have to try to tell which ones might become insane 20 years down the road because now they can ruin you for a denied kiss decades later.
I have no problem making the first move like most women want, but eventually its going to have to be other women that tell these girls to knock it off and stop lowering the bar for what is considered sexual harassment, assault and rape. Otherwise all romance (including its potential awkwardness and excitement) will be lost.
“But a denied kiss? Common, I’ve had a girl say “no” to a kiss from me after a date and turn her cheek.”
I had exactly this happen after a first date. Luckily for me, that was not the end of the story. The 4 year anniversary of that happening is coming up in December and we are still together.
One day she’ll get away and the next you’ll be in jail.
So what you’re saying is that you sexually assaulted her into marrying/dating you? Congrats.
My libertarian bona fides.
What a fucking dumbass. “Oh, you know, some of the shit they said was 100% false, but I still believe them!” Fuck off.
“…and maybe that’s too much to expect when we need to bring about rapid social change.”
Speak for yourself, asshole. Maybe the industries in which you circulate need rapid social change, but don’t assume that, just because all of the people you hang around are lecherous ogres, it’s like that across all of society. And these are the types who are constantly lecturing us commoners about our behavior.
That always ends well, doesn’t it?
Welcome to Solo Guitar Wednesday! Today, we’ve got Francesco Buzzurro’s treatment of “All of Me”.
I’m pretty sure even if Wisconsin beats Ohio state (which they should) the committee will find a reason to keep them out.
Nope. And nope.
Wisconsin brings the fans.
Wisconsin brings the fans relative to Ohio State for a game in Indianapolis we haven’t been to in three years?
Are you drunk? That crowd will be 2:1 Buckeyes fans at a minimum.
WI fans will def travel for a bowl game. Because Wisconsin is cold, and bowl games are warm.
UW is number four in the rankings now. If they win, I don’t see how the committee can move them down from number 4 and out of the playoffs. If they lose, I don’t see how (or why) they should stay.
I think Auburn and Georgia will decide one spot in the playoffs – the winner of that game will be in the playoffs. Same for Clemson and Miami.
If Clemson, Auburn, and Wisconsin all lose, I could see Georgia, Miami, and Ohio State taking their spots. I just can’t see Ohio State winning, Alabama not playing, and Alabama moving up but not Ohio State. Basically, three spots will be decided this weekend by the winner of those three games.
If Oklahoma loses to TCU, I think Oklahoma has to be out, but I don’t see TCU taking their slot, so that could open up a spot. The real quandary is, can/will the committee move Alabama back into the playoffs if they don’t play at all this week? Penn State also doesn’t play, so they would have to jump USC all the way up (assuming they win). If they don’t give USC the fourth spot, I think it goes to Alabama.
I can’t ever recall three of four playoff spots being decided in head-to-head games the final weekend. Great stuff.
Because Wisconsin is cold, and bowl games are warm.
I for one, eagerly await all the Wisconsin license plates that will show up In a few weeks.
Tell them to bring you some New Glarus Beers.
particularly Spotted Cow. Minesodans get arrested trying to sell it over there.
Spotted Cow is good beer. But it is not near good enough beer for what it sells for. I just don’t get all the pants shitting over it.
Thanks for the tips. I picked up one of these yesterday. I might just pick up another to rest in a cool, dry place.
I think New Glarus got lucky with the marketing / sales restriction on that one and it took off.
Yeah. Perfect profit storm for them. Good on them. And I’m glad it gets Bud/Miller/Coors drinkers to see that there is better beer out there. But I am surprised the hype has lasted this long.
Just keep an eye out for recall notices. I’d hope they actually did full tests this year instead of just sensory panels.
I meant there’s no reason for them to keep Wisconsin out if they beat tOSU.
The SEC and ACC championships are definitely play in games. The losers have no chance of staying in, even if a couple dumbasses at ESPN claim Clemson should maybe get in with a loss.
I’d sure like to see TCU beat Oklahoma. Sure, it’ll make our loss look a little worse, but it’ll definitely get us in the top four if we beat Wisconsin. But I just don’t see that as likely.
I am setting myself up for the worst, even with a Buckeyes win.
The committee said 5-10 are really close, but what sticks out to me is Mississippi State staying in the top 25 with four losses and after shitting the bed to Ole Miss and even more than that was the committee sticking Fresno State in the top 25 with three losses in a shit conference just to boost Bama’s wins over ranked teams. I sure hope Boise State pounds them this weekend and ends that. If they do, we would have three victories over teams above Bama’s two ranked wins. And two would be in the top 10.
But that Iowa loss still looks bad.
Who knows how it will shake out. Perhaps it won’t matter because Wisconsin will end up winning. I sure hope not, but they’re pretty solid. I guess we’ll find out in a few days.

I’ve been coming across links to that site for a few years now (no thanks to you sadists), and I am still not sure whether it is remarkably clever parody or actually serious.
That website name always brings an image of a snarky feminist lecturing me on my privilege while her submissive boyfriend anally fists her. Am I the only one?
No you are not.
No, it brings to my mind a snarky feminist lecturing me on my privilege while she is fisting her submissive boyfriend.
“boyfriend?”
Sorry, “male slave.”
“girlfriend”, more likely.
…she has friends?
ENB and her husband come to mind.
Really, the only thing that matters is that they are anti capitalist. All the feministing is just a cover for the socialism they are trying to sell.
NoScript for Firefox: Anyone else having problems with this? I had to disable it if I wanted to visit any retail site, or even Autotrader. Even with the “allow all scripts” toggled on, it wouldn’t load some pages.
btw, I found this “inexpensive” Porsche. I’m sure it would bankrupt me within a year.
It would be a fun ride into bankruptcy. I still want an old air-cooled 911 (pre-98).
Yes. Neither my Amazon Music nor my Outlook web email would work until I disabled it. The “temporarily allow all scripts on the page” button wasn’t working.
I generally side with Hammond on the Porsche debate, and I certainly think the newer one’s are gorgeous. I like their relative simplicity and the tradition.
But on that one I gotta go with Clarkson. That is a fucking ugly car. Maybe it rides great. But dat ass too thicc, yo.
I like the old ones better. Early ’80s SC would suit me just fine.
I rolled back to a previous version of Firefox. I may have to start testing out other browsers, the new version is just terrible for me. Even with NoScript working in a gutted format, it still breaks other extensions (such as TabMixPlus) which I use to customize the browser experience to my liking. Firefox has apparently decided that they know how I want the browser to work better then me…
That price seems off. That thing had to have been wrecked and cobbled back together.
Shouldn’t that car still run close to $30k ifnit was a clean, accident-free title?
Look up Intermediate Shaft Bearing.
Look to see if it’s a salvage title.
It may have spent a lot of time underwater in a flood, after a hurricane, etc.
When the insurance company resells them, they have to sell it as a salvage title.
There was a deluge of salvage title cars after Katrina that looked too good to be true. My brother bought one.
You can’t get the smell out–ever. Price in a totally new interior. Now you’ve got a car that doesn’t smell bad, but it will always fetch a much lower price because of the salvage title.
My buddy bought a salvage title S5 and the thing is amazing. The cost of fixing these cars has gotten so absurd that nice cars are being ‘totaled’ all the time.
Sure, you have to sell it cheap when you get rid of it, but if you’re in 15-20K below market, who cares?
sadly, no, the early 996’s aren’t worth a hill of beans.

The trick is to use it with a mix. Blue powerade has been my choice for a long time. Koreans find this baffling.

That was also jarring. Jesus Christ these idiots.
I like my idiots to know that they’re idiots. That’s admirable. Know thine limits. The preening pretentiousness and blind righteousness is by far the most aggravating thing about these idiots for me.
That leads me to the Rumsfeld quote about the “known unknowns and the unknown unknowns.” I know a lot of people around me mocked him for that, and I always thought that it was a very salient point to acknowledge. Fuck that guy but I thought it was a good line. These people absolutely, religiously, believe that they Know something that is absolutely ephemeral.
Many here have said it here first; it’s a religion. It occupies the exact same part of the brain. It fulfills the same purpose. It’s just as damaging (when taken to the fanatic extreme). And nothing will ever change their minds. How could they? Folks here be right. It’s such a foundational part of their identity that they can’t even entertain the idea of internally challenging it.
“That leads me to the Rumsfeld quote about the “known unknowns and the unknown unknowns.” I know a lot of people around me mocked him for that, and I always thought that it was a very salient point to acknowledge. Fuck that guy but I thought it was a good line.”
You’re right. It’s an insightful line, which I have actually used a lot. I use that as a tool in project management in schedule padding. There are things that I know that need to be done, but I have no way of knowing how long it’s going to take; that’s a known unknown. Then you have to take into account that completely unforeseen events are likely to screw up your schedule; these are the unknown unknowns.
Philosophically, I try to remind myself that unknown unknowns exist everywhere and that I need to be wary of them when doing something new.
Hell, it’s an almost scientific view of organizing human beings. The known unknowns are like known sources of entropy, the unknown unknowns are the problems you don’t know will crop up, and why engineers product test things.

Florida prof insists ‘White Racism’ course ‘not anti-white’
https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=10203
***
A Florida Gulf Coast University professor is steadfastly defending a course titled “White Racism” that has become subject to intense criticism.
The three-credit course, which will be offered during the spring 2018 semester, is apparently popular with students, having already reached its 50-student enrollment cap, with two students on a wait list.
The instructor, Dr. Ted Thornhill, argues that his course is “not anti-white; it is anti-white racism,” but also asserts that “the U.S. has been and remains a white supremacist society.”
…
College Republicans treasurer Alex Pilkington took issue with the title of the course, telling News-Press that he would have a preferred a name such as “Systemic Racism” because “giving it ‘White Racism’ as the name of the class” makes it seem “like it’s intentional you are trying to make white people look at the class a certain way.”
Thornhill adamantly rejects such criticisms, though, remarking in an initial statement that his course is “not anti-white; it is anti-white racism.”
While he makes clear that “not all white people are racists,” pointing out that “some are even anti-racist,” Thornhill also asserts that there is “much evidence” showing that “the U.S. has been and remains a white supremacist society.”
“Any ‘controversy’ generated by the course title or description testifies to its urgency,” his statement concludes. “Attempts to paint the course as anything other than that contained in the course description, which is self-explanatory, betrays gross ignorance and/or malevolent intent as well as a self-evident need to enroll in the course.”

Meanwhile It’s OK to Be White is absolutely racist.
TO BE FAIR (copyright 2015 Robby Soave), Wintrich is probably the absolute worst person you could’ve sent to make that speech. Dickhead of the highest order.
Another one of those situations where I despise every person involved.
Uncle Tom isn’t a racial slur, but Pocahantas is? How about Sacagewea?
Well all that depends on who the target is, if it’s a Republican, or libertarian then obviously it’s totes cool, if it is a lefty then obviously it’s horribly offensive.
Sacagewea can’t be a slur against leftists because she helped the expansion of the white cishetero patriarchy into the west. However, it could denote any Amerindian that helps the right wing or libertarians in any way.
Uh, the left was doing just fine with that in the Progressive era (see the minimum wage, Buck v Bell, Margaret Sanger, etc.)
I’ll admit, I’m not the most skilled at parsing leftist arguments, but I try… and that’s not gonna be good enough for them.
I remember when college courses taught stuff. This sounds like a political rally with a side of college credit.
It’s not. I personally would have worded the title and description differently, but most of the content is built around well-documented historical facts (I think the idea that white superiority has been a strong influence historically in the U.S. is not too controversial), and there are actually many other courses out there nationally that are pretty similar, so this is not really treading much new ground. The part that gets people riled up is the idea that these influences are still widely embedded in government and society today, which is considerably more debatable, but is a legitimate debate to have.
It becomes a lot easier to believe when you see some of the emails the professor has been getting. They make the worst youtube comments look like a PhD thesis by comparison. I won’t even try to describe the voice messages.

http://bgr.com/2017/11/28/alien-bacteria-russia-international-space-station-extraterrestrial-life/amp/
I’m not saying it was aliens…
I am not buying it. If it was drifting through space and settled on the space station why hasn’t it drifted down through the atmosphere and become indistinguishable from native bacteria? What evidence do they have that it is extraterrestrial?
Agreed that it’s probably not extraterrestrial. We already know there are some Earth creatures that can survive the vacuum of space (see tardigrades for example) and there would have amply time and orders of magnitude more probable for the bacteria to hitch a ride than drift on from space. They haven’t even confirmed that the bacteria is one of an unknown species. My best guess?
Even if they find it not to be already classified or genetically related to something already classified it wouldn’t be definitive.
I remember a grad student who was working on viruses. No one would let her borrow their collections so she started her own. She found that there are thousands of times more viruses drifting around in the ocean than there are species for hosts. She postulated that many of those are viruses specific to species long extinct, which makes sense. I am not even going to get into mycoplasma.
There are vastly more microscopic critters than we know.
Earlier that day…
That’s an absurd conclusion to reach.
If you really wanted to prove whether or not a living thing was alien, you could see if the codons in the genetic code specify the same amino acids as Earth life.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_code#RNA_codon_table
Kind of funny that it would be Russians making the claim, because I just listened to a podcast (I think Science Friday, but he was also on the Reason podcast) where the author of The Martian was talking about his new book, and he went over a few reasons why we shouldn’t be concerned about “contaminating” Mars with Earth bacteria, and his final point was “Do you think the Soviets sterilized *their* landers?”

Indeed. Pythagoreans are supposed to have been made up of two groups: acousmati and mathematikoi (sorry, can’t do greek characters and I probably have the inflections wrong too); “mathemata” roughly translates as “things that can be learned”.
There is another version of the “royal road” story that has Aristotle saying it to his pupil Alexander.
Q: What is very large, makes a lot of smoke and noise, takes down 20 liters of gas per hour, and cuts an apple into three pieces?
A: The Soviet machine built to cut apples into four pieces.
The good news is you only need one liter of gas because after 2 minutes it breaks down for the day.
Bedbugs appeared in the house occupied by the secretary of the region Party committee. The Party boss summoned an expert on insects and asked him how to get rid of bedbugs. The expert said, “The best way is to organize them into a collective farm,” he tells the Party boss. “Half of them will flee and the rest will starve to death.”
About the casino thing, there was a heist at the Normandie Casino in Los Angeles, where the armored truck guy showed up take the day’s delivery to the bank, but the manager said, “You were here just ten minutes ago!”.
Somebody dressed up like their security guys, walked up and asked for the money, and got away with hundreds of thousands of dollars.
That probably isn’t even robbery although it’s probably fraud, and, anyway, as they say in the South, “It isn’t illegal unless you get caught”.
About 25 years ago, there were a string of casino robberies – lots of guys with masks and guns – most were successful and got away. Reportedly done by LA gangs. Then they suddenly stopped. I always assumed the Vegas money men got pissed and a lot of bodies got dumped in the desert or deep in the Pacific.
I wouldn’t fuck with the casinos. They don’t even need the mob. They own the state of Nevada. They own the legislature, the prisons, the courts, the police the prosecutors. They even own the unions. Yeah, the casino workers have unions–and they get fired by the casinos at the drop of a hat anyway.
Go rob a bank somewhere. Go rob drug dealers. But, for pity’s sake, I wouldn’t want to subject myself to law enforcement and a criminal justice system pwned lock, stock, and barrel by the casinos.
I lived in Las Vegas for a couple years in the mid-90’s. Once in a while the local news would have a story about a body discover in the high desert – Vinnie Spaghetti found with hands bound and 2 gun shots to head. Nobody seemed concerned or surprised and the cops did’t seemed very interested. It wasn’t a random thing happening to innocent people.

A 26-year-old man died after a grenade he was handling exploded. Alexander “Sasha” Chechik had removed the pin from a grenade and posed for several photos with it, which he messaged to friends. The last image, likely sent mere moments before the weapon detonated, showed the live grenade in his hand. When it went off, Chechik was killed instantly.

Grenades are dangerous. One should keep that in mind when playing with them.
Rules of grenade safety:
1) Treat every grenade as if it is a frikkin explosive, especially if the pin is pulled
2) Never throw a grenade at something unless you are willing to explode it
3) Keep the pin in the grenade until you are ready to blow something into tiny bits, in thy mercy
4) Be sure of your target and what is within 15 m of it
Ever take one of those things apart? I dont want to be within 100 meters of one with the pin in it. Keep in mind that they are manufactured and purchased by people who see the lowly infantryman as expendable.
I have never handled a modern grenade. My father has a couple from the waning days of the Japanese empire. They were made when metal was scarce in Japan. They are made out of a hard ceramic. Pretty neat.
No, because I value having all of my fingers attached to my hands.

Serious journalist on a morning show?
What this guy did is wonderful, but holy fuck does the whole “giving back to the community” sentiment ever get my blood boiling. Why are you “giving back”? Did you perhaps take something that wasn’t yours and now have to compensate the rightful owner? You could just call it what it is – doing something solely out of good will – but I guess that wouldn’t satisfy the progressive dogma of self flagellation for perpetual indebtedness.
I thought it was just me, that always grinds my gears.
If you speak the things that you think are “just me”, you will find that they are not.
Unless your handle is SugarFree then, it’s “just you”.

You could just call it what it is – doing something solely out of good will – but I guess that wouldn’t satisfy the progressive dogma of self flagellation for perpetual indebtedness.
500,000% this.
In a very real way, the “giving back to the community” robs the charitable of the dignity they deserve. If you’re just “giving back”, you really haven’t done anything of moral worth. You’ve just paid on a debt. And I think that’s where the proglodyte affinity for the notion comes from. Their notion is that everyone is the property of the community. So, anything you achieve, accomplish or earn is rightly the property of the community. If you believe this, “giving back” is a moral obligation and not something that is praiseworthy for doing.
WASHINGTON – A big trove of top-secret files from an Army intelligence project was left on a public web server with no password protection, open to anyone who cared to look, the Silicon Valley firm UpGuard said Tuesday.
The exposed files included aspects of a classified battlefield intelligence platform, part of a failed $5 billion Army project to empower soldiers at war, codenamed Red Disk.
“How careless was it? Very careless,” said UpGuard’s director of cyber risk research, Chris Vickery, who made the discovery two months ago and notified the government, which secured the data. The company revealed the discovery Tuesday.
The trove included about 100 gigabytes from an Army project. Much of it was marked “TOP SECRET” and “NOFORN,” indicating it was not to be shared with foreign allies, Vickery said in a telephone interview.
The researcher found the downloadable secret files on a cloud site hosted by Amazon Web Services, a cloud-computing subsidiary of Amazon.com. Some of the files had been on the site since 2013, he said.

I finally saw Justice League last night. I thought it was pretty good. My wife was very interested in all the eye candy (Superman and Aquaman). I enjoyed seeing Wonder Woman in leather pants, and the scene where her skirt lifts up and you get a peek of ass cheek.
I enjoyed it as well, after the eye roll inducing intro. Every woman in the theater was eye fucking Aquaman.
I’m straight and I would eyefuck Jason Momoa.
I think my wife was eyefucking Gal Gadot. She mentioned the ass cheek first when we got in the car.
Time to float that threeway idea.

Is it worth seeing aside from the eye candy? Cause if I want eye candy, Q’s got me covered in that department.
It is, I enjoyed it. Plenty of action without being over the top. For reference, my 5 year old paid attention the entire movie but was bored out of his mind during Rogue One.
Well, Rogue One was crap.
Don’t be like that! There was the Darth Vader scene, and K2-S0, and…uh…
Ok, but that Darth Vader scene was awesome.
Yes. Nice action, decent plot, cool visuals. The characters are pretty likable too. I would buy the DVD.

House GOP to Propose Sweeping Changes to Higher Education
Revamp would put caps on student loans, foster new paths to work force
https://www.wsj.com/articles/house-gop-to-propose-sweeping-changes-to-higher-education-1511956800
Details are still scarce, but this could potentially be the biggest reform of the education mess in decades. Greatly increased support for apprenticeships and trades schools, preventing go employees from sucking taxpayers dry, and forcing 4 year programs to have skin in the game. Let’s see if the repubs can finally do something to redeem themselves after the ACA debacle.
I’m still not seeing how a pres Hillary would be the same as Trump. These initiatives are being pushed hard by DeVos.
The act would create winners and losers.
Unprecedented! Unheard of! Why, it is well known that Dem/RINO legislation creates only winners! Only Trump and his minions could craft a law that created losers as well as winners.
“The bill would also end loan-forgiveness programs for public-service employees, who currently can make 10 years of payments and then have their remaining debt forgiven, tax-free. ”
WTF is this? I didn’t know there was a program like that. That is some bullshit. Come be a government leach on society and you can get your debt that was stolen from society in the first place forgiven. That needs to end.
It also applies to employees at a non-profit.
It’s a nice racket they have going. You can rack up a couple hundred thousand in debt, using the “living expenses” part of student loans for vacations, new car loans, new tvs etc. plus tuition for expensive liberal arts school. Then pay a few hundred a month in interest-only repayment based on your low salary that your make-believe degree got you. Then have the the full $200k forgiven after 10 years of repayment.
I shouldn’t have said “forgiven”. That’s too strong of a euphemism.
Then have the full $200k taken from taxpayers using threat of death or imprisonment after 10 years of repayment.
So, a self perpetuating government program that robs the taxpayers and benefits givernment employees. Color me surprised.
And all of those useless Marxist bullshit programs would die off. They are going to fight tooth and nail against this but it is just a matter of time for them anyway. May as well be now.
I would love to see this happen, but I’m not holding my breath. I’m predicting the left is going to frame this as “destroying higher education and siphoning money into corporations”, and the Republicans are going to cower in fear and water it down.
If you look at how much school administrators make, and how huge endowments are at big universities, you’ll see they aren’t hurting for cash. This is long overdue.
Fuck yes
The change could cut into enrollment and potentially siphon off billions of dollars a year from universities.
That alone would be reason enough to end this scam. Forget whether dumb kids graduate with marketable skills, just do this.
No more Departments of Diversity staffed by 50 Marxis…I mean Women’s Study graduates? The horror.
I love this “siphon off,” as if the colleges aren’t operating a vendor-financing scam at taxpayers’ expense.

?Harvard Lunch Club podcast interviewed an English professor at Emory who said he wishes his students and colleagues were die-hard textual Marxists, because then at least he could have a conversation with them. Instead, they’re all brain-dead cliche-spitting identitarians.
As opposed to brain-dead cliche-spitting Marxists.
*facepalm*
Well, he wasn’t lauding Marxists, just that Marxism isn’t a wholly nihilistic humanity-hating philosophy of victimhood. At least they’d read, you know, something other than Harry Potter.
The only intelligent conversations I had during grad school were with a couple of Marxists. The rest were all “brain-dead cliche-spitting identitarians.”
As Instapundit intimates, if the general public looks toward universities, and all it sees is absurd bullshit, don’t expect the general public to keep financing them. And then the academy will label the public anti-intellectual (more than it already does).
This would be great. Won’t happen. This is the same congress that couldn’t pass a repeal of Obamacare they’ve been promising for 8 years and is struggling to pass a hugely popular tax cut (which will probably also fail). They don’t want to accomplish anything because they are center-Left Democrats.
And this will be the biggest reason that the Left hates this proposal.
Their only principles are to protect their institutions: universities, unions, “green energy” companies, and criminal syndicates like the Clinton Foundation. I was talking to a “progressive” about the ethics of forced dues payment and stating that it shouldn’t be allowed to happen, and his reply was “but taking that away would reduce the strength of unions”. As if it’s a logical axiom that labor unions should be given unfair advantages by the government.
What’s the over/under that TOS trashes the proposal?
“As part of its plan to rein in student loans, graduate students and parents of undergraduates would face so far unspecified caps on how much they could borrow for tuition and living expenses—instead of borrowing whatever schools charge.”
I think this would have a big impact on the cost of college. Colleges charge as much as the government is willing to lend. If you see that amount fall, you will see tuition fall. Then the colleges will have to decide what is going to get cut. I’m willing to bet it’s not going to be the staff of the Department of Diversity, or whatever it’s called.

Would.
I keep seeing this:
The bill would also repeal the Affordable Care Act’s mandate that most Americans have health insurance or pay a penalty. As a result, up to 13 million could lose coverage [NYT]
If I understand them correctly, not putting a gun to those people’s heads in order to compel them to involuntarily buy insurance is the same as forcibly taking it away from people who want it.
I must be dense, or something.
I’ve heard “not giving is taking” and “not taking is giving,” but this is the first time I’ve heard “not forcing someone to do something they don’t want to is taking.”
I also like that, suddenly, lefties love corporations. They’re are all about forcing people to pay cash money to insurers.
The act focuses on ensuring students don’t just enroll in school, but actually graduate with skills that the labor market is seeking.
Oh, no! Another subsidy for evil kkkorporations! Wealth transfer!

Clinton Foundation donors stop donating as quid pro quo scheme crumbled after her election defeat and pay-to-play scandal.
It’s impossible to know precisely what’s happened to Clinton Foundation fundraising in the year since Secretary Clinton lost. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the foundation submits financial information to the Internal Revenue Service once per year, and information on both 2016 and 2017 is not yet publicly available. But International Business Times contacted nearly 50 major corporations that had previously donated to the foundation, asking if they had made new contributions after the 2016 presidential campaign. Thirty of them did not respond or declined to comment on the questions. Of the 18 that did, all said they had not made new donations.
you’re welcome.

Because NBC was so blatantly pro Trump?
Some people may recall Lauer’s hosting of a 2016 “debate” in which he harassed Clinton nonstop over emails while letting Trump skate on everything.
Anybody who recalls that needs to have their meds adjusted.
The…sub tweets(?) make my head hurt. Basically he finally got what he deserved because it’s his fault Herself lost.
Krugman is right about one thing though; the media was incredibly sexist in last years election. After all, they considered Clinton being a woman to be an excellent reason to vote for her.
Clinton Foundation donors stop donating
INCONCEIVABLE!
They have all just started paying off their student loans on their Women’s Studies degrees. No money left for them to donate when they also need to buy their dreamcatchers and organic avocados.
Also hello, I have heard from my dad that I am LSD?
*sorry, dreamcatchers are more Bernie Bro. They are the only way they will ever be able to attain their ideal form of government. Unfortunately, the Clintons aren’t just a screwed up nightmare.
Preface: I think the GOP income tax overhaul is deficient in many ways, namely, it doesn’t go far enough in uniformly cutting business tax rates and is merely half-hearted. Specifically, several trades like accounting and lawyering get zero benefit on the tax reform. They claim that the present reform proposal would make the US competitive, but the rates are weak tea. Fuck you, cut spending.
That being said, god damn, this interview with Senator Jeff Flake on NPR this morning regarding his “reservations” to the current tax plan in the form of deficit concerns, what a gigantic pussy. He didn’t even bother throwing other congress-critters under the bus with regard to spending, merely said something to the effect that failure to cut spending could mean a greater federal deficit.
Dude, you’re retiring and have nothing to lose. Where’s the god damn fire in your belly over the spending now, Sen. Flake? Fuck you, dude. Despite these character flaws and being exposed as a phoney, he’s still better than most Senators.
The concluding statements regarding “shared facts” and shit was stupid as hell too, by the way, go eat a turd, Jeff.
Flake and a couple others are insisting on trigger that would raise taxes if certain growth targets aren’t met. What an opportunity to put triggers for spending cuts, but it didn’t even occur to them. The increase in deficit is also a drop in the bucket compared to the normal budget anyway.
So, the tax plan is now looking like removal of deductions + an arbitrary trigger for tax increases. The benefits (e.g., ACA mandate repeal) may make it worth it anyway, but this bill is really looking like a load of boondoggle shit. They should have eliminated all deductions and cut taxes to a flat 10% across the board. Made it clean, simple, and effective. I think cutting spending back to pre-Bush rates would have enable a 10% flat tax with ease.
Hehe, oh you.
But yeah, this tax reform is not competitive with jurisdictions overseas at all. If Trump puts his tramp stamp on it, I doubt the incoming batch of legislators coming in to replace these voluntarily retiring gutless Senators will take up the banner, so I kind of hope this shit fails. The 20% rate on passive equity corporations only is what makes me angriest, why do they need to buttfuck active company ownership? Huge turd.
But giving money to politically-connected, unionized firms in mostly Democrat-run states to build unneeded infrastructure at hugely inflated costs is how we get rich, because aggregate demand or whatever.
Flake has turned out an utter disappointment.
So he’s been *dons sunglasses* a flake?
Disappointing indeed. It looks like he’s been wearing a mask for awhile, and is ripping it off with retirement on the horizon. I wonder if he’s picked out his K Street office yet?
As usual, I have not bestirred myself to seek out details on the Matt Lauer thing. “Sexual assault” was it? What does that mean? aAshoulder squeeze, a butt tickle, or a down-the-pants pussy grab?

Here’s another one:
Because it would cut corporate taxes so deeply — to 20 percent, from 35 percent — this bill would blow a huge hole in the federal budget.
Both sides are guilty of this one. They talk about the statutory rate as it suits the argument, and ignore the effective rate.
The object of reform is (should be) to more closely align the statutory rate with reality, and to bring it to a level where resources are less like;ly to be diverted to schemes purely based on tax effects..
The effective rate being zero, being that we pay it, not the corporations?
I’ll bet you that the cut to business rates will have zero to positive impact on revenue within 3 years. These fucks have no idea how real economies work.
I’m still not seeing how a pres Hillary would be the same as Trump. These initiatives are being pushed hard by DeVos.
Hillary would have named somebody like Randi Weingarten to run the Dept of Ed.
“I believe that the “believe all women” vision of feminism unintentionally fetishizes women. Women are no longer human and flawed. They are Truth personified. They are above reproach.
I believe that it’s condescending to think that women and their claims can’t stand up to interrogation and can’t handle skepticism. I believe that facts serve feminists far better than faith. That due process is better than mob rule.
Maybe it will happen tomorrow or maybe next week or maybe next month. But the Duke lacrosse moment, the Rolling Stone moment, will come. A woman’s accusation will turn out to be grossly exaggerated or flatly untrue. And if the governing principle of this movement is still an article of faith, many people will lose their religion.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/28/opinion/metoo-sexual-harassment-believe-women.html
Because Duke lacrosse and Rolling Stone didn’t already happen?
I think they are underestimating just how many people don’t believe in their religion, including a bunch of women. I’ve talked to more than a few women about this that have said “you know, women can lie too.”
I’m guessing they acknowledge this because they’ve, you know, had women lie about them.
I don’t think any society has ever been able to handle women rationally. Despite what crazy feminists think men tend to be wildly overprotective of women- probably an evolutionary trait. Women understand how to manipulate that impulse.
Due process, and a bit of “get over it” if someone makes a pass at you that is unwanted is what should happen, but when it’s “my daughter or my wife” reason is out the window.
“So let me get this correct. A wanna be politician whose platform seems to be “choose me instead of alt-right because I’m a feminist” is embarrassed by me for calling out the spoiled brats of generation horrible? ”

But in a surprise move, we’re not directing two minutes of hate at another lecherous politician unable to keep his hands off a reporter’s knee. Nope. Now it’s Dame Angela Lansbury in the stocks. That’s right, the twinkle-eyed 92-year-old star of Murder, She Wrote stands accused of 2017’s most heinous crime of all: victim-blaming.
Despite an acting career that began long before those now pouring on the vitriol were born, Lansbury has confessed to never having suffered sexual harassment at the hands of a Hollywood producer. To make matters worse, she neither wholeheartedly denounced those accused nor applauded the bravery and innocence of those coming forward with accusations of harassment. Instead, Lansbury told the Radio Times: ‘There are two sides to this coin.’ ”

Does anyone else think that if Hillary had been elected, Rose McGowan would be nothing more than 25-word obituary in the NYT this year?
+2 suicidal shots to the back of the head
Absolutely. This is all a ripple effect of Trump getting elected.
He primed the pump for bad news, and his provocations are so outrageous to the left that even a tremendously influential Democrat donor like Weinstein gets more than a chyron blurb.
And she was very “harass-worthy” back in the day
Hell yeah. She was a stone-cold fox.
And she also had talent. Enough that she didn’t need to put out to be seen as a valuable commodity by the casting directors. Beside I have a feeling if you did try to harass her back in the day she would have your balls in a sling and look fabulous doing it.
And yet each and every one of the bastards taking part in trying to destroy the reputation of a 92-year-old woman is probably patting themselves on the back about how brave they are for sticking up for the rights of women. You’re a pretty pathetic excuse for a human being when you need to mob up to try to face down an old lady in her 90s and she still comes across as the stronger character.
What does this have to do with Murder She Wrote?
This exists. Enjoy

You think it’s a coincidence that wherever she went, people were getting murdered and she was the one who figured out who committed the crime?
She’s a stone cold serial killer, yo. She kills people, inserts herself into the investigation and then manipulates it to pin the blame on someone else. She probably gets off on both the murder and the innocent person getting stitched up for it.
My wife loves that show. I get a headslap every time I point that out.
She’s a stone cold serial killer, yo. She kills people, inserts herself into the investigation and then manipulates it to pin the blame on someone else. She probably gets off on both the murder and the innocent person getting stitched up for it.
That is a brilliant idea for a series of books and/or long-form TV.
She’s suggesting there are such things as cock-teasers, something modern feminists claim are only a fiction of the male imagination.
“Why Is the New York Times Taking Astrology Seriously?
Here’s what the feminization of the news room looks like: The New York Times — that self-appointed scourge of fake news and the alleged war on science — has published a fawning article about astrology in its news pages. “Leaning on the Stars to Make Sense of the World,” by Alexandra S. Levine, treats Times’ readers to heaping doses of astrological mumbo jumbo: “Saturn’s move from a fire sign to an earth sign next month.” It respectfully conveys astrologers’ hilariously self-important evaluations of their “profession”: “‘It’s so important that we give quality literature, quality interpretation, quality astronomy and astrology,’” says the astrology columnist for Harper’s Bazaar. The article never once asks the obvious questions, including: What is the theory behind astral influence? Do stars emit some physical force, wave, particle, or gravitational field that affects events on earth, and if so, has it been measured? What is astrologers’ ex post facto batting average — how do their daily newspaper predictions stand up? Have they predicted major events with anything other than random success?”

OT: Water Leaking Problems
So the plumbing service came out to look at my leaky basement wall (on the other side of which is an inaccessible crawlspace). They’re going to bring one of those long cameras that can snake into tight spaces and see what’s going on behind that wall.
It sounds like the worst case scenario is that there’s a cast iron drainage pipe that is buried under the crawlspace dirt that has rusted away. In that case, he said they would have to block off that pipe, run a new drainage line out the side of the house, through the yard, and up to the main sewage line under the sidewalk. That would be roughly 40 feet of pipe in total (with one 90 degree turn).
Any idea how much that operation might cost? I’m really hoping it’s just a leak above the dirt, but I just want to know what to expect.
I had a cast iron drainage pipe rupture and repeatedly clog. I ended up replacing the entire line, about 40 feet, with pvc. It ended up being $600 something total, including the backhoe.
Did you do all the labor yourself, or was that done by a plumbing service?
I did zero labor. No plumbers either. It was a company with a backhoe. They charged $75/hr for a two man crew and backhoe. They dug up the cast iron, laid the new pipe, and made all the connections. Did a great job too.
I had the same problem a few years ago. The difference was that the pipe ran from my basement, under my garage, under my driveway to the street. Cutting through the concrete, then replacing said concrete raised the price to $10k.
Assume 10K then the actual price will be a relief.
They should (may) be able to sleeve the line (caveats abound) without the need to dig everything up reducing the cost. It’s very rare that they would need to replace all of that line in any case. They should be able to identify the location of the damage and just replace that area. Trenching for an entire new line that long will cost a shitload.
Assuming your using plumbers. Spartan Dad sounds like a deal!
Any obstacles to digging up the entire section? A buddy of mine had a leaking water pipe several years ago and had a replacement installed by boring without disturbing the landscaping. A bit more than spartan dad but utility also offered an interest free loan with the amount lumped into the regular bill.

They say what they are paid to say.
The effective rate being zero, being that we pay it, not the corporations?
True enough, in the greater scheme of things, but the statutory rate incentives enterprise managers to engage in a lot of sub-optimal decisions and spending based on tax strategies, in the short run.
Instead, Lansbury told the Radio Times: ‘There are two sides to this coin.’
THEM’S FIGHTIN’ WORDS!
To prove to a prog friend of mine that the hysteria regarding Trump is particularly rampant and not comparable to right-wing hysteria back when Obama was president, I made a Google Trends graph to compare “impeach obama” with “impeach trump”. Not even close.
But, it’s different. Trump is icky and deserves to be impeached. Obama was just dreamy and anyone who wanted to impeach him must have been insane.
/progderp
What happened in October 2013? Exchange rollout? Or was that 2014?
I believe that there was a government shutdown that year, and I think it was the famous one where Obama put on a huge show and put guards at the gates of the National Parks and Monuments.
Ahh, right. God am I glad that primadonna is out on his ear. Always a fucking clownshow with that guy, and that’s saying something with the carnival barker we have now.
Trump has some sideshow tendencies, but I think he’s done a good job so far as president, or at least a better job than I was expecting. He’s the only political figure with major clout that actually wants to fight the left and the culture war, and he’s mostly governed how a conservative would govern, with the exception of that one debt ceiling giveaway that he made to Schumer back in September. My only major complaint with him is that he buys all of the crap about the government being able to “fix” the Drug Panic, particularly the opioid insanity.

I love when the left and GOPe tries to portray Todd Akin as the Tea Party’s candidate of choice that year, when those groups didn’t want him at all in the primaries. Their pick was former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who finished 3rd in the primaries. Tea Party groups warned them about Akin because he was fiscally a huge RINO who had voted in the past to raise the debt ceiling and was well-known for running up the earmarks for his district. Why no conservatives bring up this fact, I have no idea.
If this sounds off-topic, this is the quote that I was commenting on:
“There’s room for Bernie and there’s room for me,” Cantwell said. “The difference is you guys keep trying to isolate your party. It used to be there was everywhere from Susan Collins (R., Maine) to Jeff Sessions, but instead you guys took on people like Dick Lugar, and guess what? We got Joe Donnelly (D., Ind.) And then you put somebody out there in Missouri and we got Claire McCaskill (D., Mo.).”
I really don’t understand why Democrats disavow outright communism.
They say that everything would be better if the healthcare industry were completely run by the government. They say that government services are better because the government isn’t concerned with profits, and the people can vote to change things if the service isn’t good, so everybody wins. Everyone gets great service, and you don’t have those evil CEOs overcharging customers, underpaying workers, and killing the planet (so they say).
Just for the sake of argument, let’s go with that for a minute. Now, if the government can take over something as complex as healthcare with no injury to the supply or quality of services, why wouldn’t you want them to take over every industry? Why not put them in charge of producing cars, coffee mugs, pencils, books, computers, houses, and everything else we buy? Government is always superior to private industry, right?
They disavow it because there are too many voters still around that remember the glory days of the USSR
More conservatives need to make the progs own Venezuela. That situation was the direct result of the “democratic socialism” that Bernie and his base loves so much. Chavez was popularly elected and did exactly what the citizens voted him in for. Guess what? Socialism still failed.
Funny anecdote: I was browsing through some articles on a different site and thought I was reading a recently written article. I only noticed that it was written back in 2014 when I saw a political argument in the comments section and one of the commentators ranted about the evil capitalists desperately trying to make people ignore Venezuela because it was a real life example of a working socialist states
I’ve said before: Communism and socialism necessarily entail a set of assumptions about social ordering and economic management, and it’s those assumptions that create the disasters, not whether some spiritual conception of Marxism was achieved. People pretend that Stalin alone was responsible for perverting Lenin’s noble plan, but that’s nothing more than horseshit Top Men belly lint plumbing. Communism/Socialism requires upending conventional norms and habits, and humanity is simply incapable of realizing the grand scheme of a selfless existence without resort to privation and violence. Hence: mass starvation and massacres by design. There’s no getting around it, and the dummies who think otherwise need to have that fact shoved down their throats along with their teeth.
True bleever lefties have no understanding of human nature. The TOP.MEN and their few closest comrades that always wind up being the sole beneficiaries of utopia, never believed any of it to start with, they just recognized it as their best shot at achieving complete power. All the rest, the true bleevers, they aren’t called useful idiots for nothing. So human nature always prevails. When you invest complete power into someone to ensure equality, you just ensured human nature, now someone has total power and you’re the price.
I hate the designation of radical and reactionary in Marxist parlance: violence, starvation, and tyranny are fundamental components of human existence. We are at base tribes of howling chimps that will tear the faces off one another given enough provocation, so anything that inspires cooperation and liberty and individualism is a radical departure from our nature. The reactionaries are those who wish to return to our brutal past.
“These days, the American dream is more apt to be realized in South America, in places such as Ecuador, Venezuela and Argentina, where incomes are actually more equal today than they are in the land of Horatio Alger.” – Bernie Sanders, 2011
Oops. Wreckers and Kulaks, no?
Anyway, Berntard is way the fuck off there. In Brazil at the height of the economic surge, before the Dilmaites ran out of other people’s money, income equality was never even close to what it is in the USA. The poor there were/are as poor as in the poorest 3rd world countries while the rich were/are among the richest on the planet. The lefties look at this the wrong way. Their measure is a comparison only between the richest billionaires and the poorest Americans. They leave everything in between out of the equation, which gives a greatly distorted outcome. Their only real concern is that some billionaire makes this % more than everyone else. They don’t take into account at all how Americans are on avg richer than any other population that has ever existed even if you take out the billionaires. I’ve had that conversation a few times before with lefties. Here’s typically how it goes.
Me: In the USA today, the avg income person is better off than the richest Kings were just a few hundred years ago.
Commie: But that doesn’t matter! Those kings were richer than anyone else at the time!
Me: Why do you care about that? Shouldn’t you instead care that you are better off now than mostly everyone that has ever lived before you?
Commie: But inequality!
Which is why they’re pushing so hard on “not real socialism” right now.
Exactly. The word “communism” is still toxic, but notice how, amongst the youngsters, “socialism” is ok. There is no substantive difference between communism and socialism yet the syntax is managed very carefully.
This is what happens when the definition of terms is allowed to become mushy. Socialism no longer means that the government owns all the means of production. It is defined as the the only system that prevents poor people from dying in the streets. No one wants that, right? How can you be against socialism unless you want poor people dying in the streets?
It is defined as the the only system that prevents poor people from dying in the streets. No one wants that, right?
*Tentatively raises hand, looks around, converts hand-raise into head-scratch, tries to look nonchalant*
Even their complaints about police don’t hinge on mistrust of government: they don’t care that they’re unionized, or about their incestuous relationships with politicians, or that putting taxpayers on the hook for their misdeeds is certain to pervert their incentives. They just want to see them federalized. They fantasize about police being the only armed civilians.
Statism is their only philosophical tenet. It’s like brain rabies with them.
Well yea, the last thing on Earth that Democrats want is for people to start questioning whether or not it’s appropriate for government workers to be in unions where they are bargaining against the taxpayers.
Democrats aren’t about to piss off these unions that keep them funded.
The really don’t so much anymore, they just prefer to call their communism, socialism or progressivism. There’s no difference, but they still pretend their is to some degree. I’m expecting them to change their logo to a red flag with gold hammer and sickle any day now.
Its probably because there IS a real difference but Dems can’t say so without offending their leftier-wing cohorts
much of the democratic party pretends to play along with socialists just the same way lots of GOP types pretend to care about ‘small government’ and ‘respect for libertarians’, when the reality is that most in the GOP rely mainly on bible-beating, big-govt voters and think libertarian ideas are stupid. Dems are the same. They don’t care about Antifa or crazy-marxist-feminists or fighting the 1% plutocrats; they care about their big lobbies like AARP and AFSCME and SEIU, and steadily bleeding big corporations for protection-money. They are *defenders* of the status quo, because the status quo is their bread-and-butter. They have no interest in any Big Ideas which would restructure American life, they just want to protect their vig on the scams they’ve been running for decades.
Trump’s major accomplishments this year, on top of unmasking the MSM as radical leftists, is that he’s also helped to unmask every single member of the GOPe as little more than controlled opposition as arranged by the uniparty agreement put in place decades ago. Whether that means that they’ll eventually get kicked by the base into working with Trump on legislation in the future remains to be seen.
their status quo is their bread and butter yet they vote for “change” (such as Obama’s campaign).
then again they were probably just voting to get more change in their pockets and in those of the scams.
You notice how when they’re shrieking commies, the papers call them ‘left leaning’, but if you think “hay maybe colleges shouldn’t have speech-codes and stuff” you’re a FAR RIGHT RADICAL EXTREMIST
oh, and how the commies end up millionaires just by holding public office? (head scratcher) and no one ever wonders how that works?
When you can’t win an argument or learn from losing, you must strive to control the narrative.
“They learned nothing and forgot nothing.”
Perhaps “left-leaning” just means “left-leaning in comparison to the author”. By attempting to normalize this the goal is to shift the overton window.

I’ve been surprised at how well the writers have made the point of just how out of touch they are, esp. the wife. I’d pay good money if they’d end the series with the husband defecting and then pushing the wife (preferably naked so we can have a lingering shot of Keri’s ass) out of a helicopter when she refuses.
I love the popover window that TOS is using to encourage donations
Huh, I didn’t see that. Thanks NoScript.
The lede was buried on that Bellagio heist story…
“Actor James Woods was at the Bellagio at the time and was able to live tweet the events surrounding the robbery”
