The Pro Bowl selections are out. No real surprises on the list. Early signing day today for college football. Let’s see if the Buckeyes maintain their staggering lead for top recruiting class. College basketball produced nothing but ranked winners last night. The Lane Train kept rolling for FAU in the Something Something Something Boca Raton Bowl. And hockey winners were: Detroit, Toronto, the NY Rangers, the MINNESOOOOODA WIIIIIILD, the Bruins, the Jets, the Crapitals, the Panthers, les Canadiens and Las Vegas.
“What in the wide, wide world of sports is going on here?” I’ll tell you what’s going on here, Mr Taggert. Its called…the links!
Well yesterday was relatively quiet. Nothing really big happened except for the tax bill vote, which literally killed 30 million people, it is being reported by sources close to the matter.
And not only that, but there’s this as well. These people will probably be in the street if the GOP get through another tax cut. Then where would our nation be, huh? Fucking lazy ass grifters. Read and see (emphasis mine):
To earn a salary, Mike Vincent, 32, works as a graduate student assistant at the University of Florida, a position that guarantees nine months of work, as he completes his doctoral degree in musicology. His wife, Rebecca Pethes, was unable to secure a similar job this year to supplement her own graduate degree, so the couple has struggled to raise their 1-year-old child, Isobel, on Mr. Vincent’s annual salary — $16,000 for nine months, $18,000 if he can finagle an extra semester of work.
“I don’t know what it means to pay taxes on a normal income,” he said. “I can’t even imagine making that much money right now.”

In pursuing a political science degree, Ms. Hernandez, 29, a Mexican-American whose grandmother has a third-grade degree, is defying what statistics say is possible. She recalled one congressional aide who forthrightly told her that “people elect to go to graduate school.”
“It’s an elective degree for some people — like white men, those who come from wealthy backgrounds,” Ms. Hernandez said. “But for people like me, it’s not an elective degree; it’s a struggle, not just for me but for my community. We have to get these degrees because we need to make it more normal for us to be in these fields and be at the table.”
Its assholes all around! These people should be the poster children for abolishing the tax deduction for grad students. And for abolishing any sort of loan forgiveness for people with an advanced degree in anything other than a STEM field. Also noticeably absent from the article were those STEM students bitching. Instead we get musicology majors and poli-sci griefer assholes. (H/T to OMWC)
Stupid host with terrible agent works for an agreed-upon amount for a decade. Then quits for the wrong reason instead of firing her piss-poor representation. Stunning and brave!
If you think for a second that “safety” was the reason these were put in, I’ve got a bridge to sell you. This was just another money-grab by greedy assholes.
I’m sorry, but there’s no way this chick is getting off. Thanks, Florida. Never change.
Rememeber Debbie Wasserman-Shitforbrains’s kick-ass IT staff? Looks like they were in the car business as well. And by “car business”, I mean the money-laundering business. And that idiot gave them her laptop passwords and access to basically all of the classified information she had access to.
The EU is saying Brexit will be completed by 2020. Which probably leaves time for something else to delay it forever while the country is flooded with more euros and “refugees” that will manage to secure another vote to stop it. Because elections really don’t have consequences when the losers hold a nation hostage in the aftermath.
We must do our (Christmas) alma mater!
Hump day for some, the last workday before Christmas for others. Either way, make it a good one.

93) Global warming, er, climate change causes greatly increased snowfall in Alaska
So…global warming creates more winter weather? Also, I thought one of the terrifying aspects of global warming was supposed to be that we were entering a downward spiral, as warmer weather led to less snow cover, and the darker, non-snow covered ground in turn absorbed still more heat, causing more global warming, ad nauseum.
But, it turns out those negative feedback loops might not be as broken as alarmists believe? Almost as if a stable climate that’s developed over billions of years might have some automatic stabilizers built into it….
Everything that is different than 10 years ago is caused by global warming.
That being said it is possible for global warming to cause more snowfall due to more water vapor I guess…
Anyhoo climate disruption is the thing
Remember that really cold night when you were a tad? Global warming remembers.
Rememeber Debbie Wasserman-Shitforbrains’s kick-ass IT staff? Looks like they were in the car business as well. And by “car business”, I mean the money-laundering business
I mean if your money is all like filthy and stuff, sprucing it up a bit is a good idea
Spinners and the like, I’d feature.
I would go into a rant about how our dnc operatives with bylines have been telling us Trump and everyone around him will be impeached and Hillary will become president because they worked with Russia to steal the election, without providing any evidence that was not later refuted or pulled back as erroneous or an outright fabrication, and all these stories about real criminal activity by the proggie crime syndicate keep getting ignored, but that wouldn’t get us nowhere considering these people don’t really care about telling the people about how corrupt the banner carriers of their filthy ideology are.
And I thought “Jews For Jesus” was wacky. This is winding up being “Jews For Hezbollah.”
I don’t know about the modern organization, but the Apostles were Jews for Jesus, so it’s not unprecedented.
The HOLY fuckin’ Bible, sir! Did you know Jesus was a Jew?
“And not only that, but there’s this as well. ”
I just read that’s no longer part of the bill.
Right, is the NYT out of date or what? I saw like three articles a few days ago that grad students weren’t getting kicked off the gravy train.
“President Trump had finished a celebratory news conference to announce the completion of a sweeping overhaul of the nation’s tax code, and graduate students were breathing a deep sigh of relief. House Republicans had targeted them for a hefty tax increase, one that many of them could not hope to pay, but they had escaped unscathed.
The question now is this: Once lawmakers put a target on your back, are you ever really in the clear?
But the tuition tax proposal is just one in a growing list of graduate school benefits that House Republicans have in their legislative sights. Next up is an extensive rewrite of the law governing the nation’s higher education system, and again, Republicans hope to drastically curtail or end revenue streams that graduate students rely on to pursue advanced degrees.
“I think there’s a general assault on higher education right now,” said Justin Draeger, the president of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. “I think it’s tied into a dangerous narrative in our country about elitism. It undervalues our most important resource, which is our inventiveness, our ingenuity, our ability to solve big problems. A lot of that work happens at graduate-level education.””
So the NYT wrote that isn’t happening. But that graduate students feel a target on their backs, as angry toothless yokels gather their farm implements against Top Men, as poor Latinx Studies majors aren’t getting free hot tubs filled with prostitutes and gold.
Or did I read that wrong?
Sigh. Spud-on, Your Potatoness, Spud-on.
The question now is this: Once lawmakers put a target on your back, are you ever really in the clear?
Ask the rich.
The Mormons shed their target.
The headline reads “Graduate Students Escaped Tax Increases, but They Still Feel a Target on Their Backs.”
Well that was one opportunity we missed then. I agree with the comment:
“Its assholes all around! These people should be the poster children for abolishing the tax deduction for grad students. And for abolishing any sort of loan forgiveness for people with an advanced degree in anything other than a STEM field.”
Especially since these people that pursue the worthless degrees that are so trendy these days, tend to be the ones that think they know what’s best for everyone, when reality is that their brains are full of nonsense and evil. The more useless the degree and the more in love the idiot is with communism and its evil, and the more intelligent the left tells us the idiot is. See for example Obama.
Goddamnit. Can’t we just stop subsidizing this shit? Better to make it unattainably expensive than yoke fucking 3/4ths of the idiots in the country to a wheel of debt.
“Grad students: You’ve been spared under the GOP tax plan”
http://money.cnn.com/2017/12/15/pf/college/grad-students-tuition-waiver/index.html
TW: autoplay, CNN
Yeah, I was just noting that it was news. The story talks about how these stunning and brave assholes are going to keep their bullshit subsidies. And how they’re the only thing that won us the cold war or something.
That story is just like a waterfall of idiocy raining down on me.
So, basically, standard WaPo/NYT reporting: The Republicans did something we have to agree is good for sure, but they are still evil anyways because we’re the good guys.
Yeah, that’s it in a nutshell.
Yes, poli-sci, musicology and grievance studies majors are the source of “our inventiveness, our ingenuity, our ability to solve big problems.”
Give me a fucking break.
Hey man, my grandfather was with the 3rd Musicologist Brigade. He took an oboe to the knee capturing the Munich Symphony Hall back in ’45. Stop disrespecting our heroes.
What’s funny (not funny) is that sad story about Mike Vincent. With the increased standard deduction and increased child tax credit, he likely would have paid no tax anyway even if he included his tuition waiver.
Oh, okay, I actually read the article. It does acknowledge that the plan to tax grad student benefits was tossed out. But now graduate students feel anxious, because, you know, Republicans could still pass legislation in the future or something.
“His wife, Rebecca Pethes, was unable to secure a similar job this year to supplement her own graduate degree, so the couple has struggled to raise their 1-year-old child,”
When my wife and I were earning our masters’ degrees, we both held jobs at the same time we were in school. It was nice when we were able to work at internships related to our fields, but when that didn’t happen I worked as a stocker at Office Depot one summer, and my wife worked at Trader Joe’s for a couple semesters. Is there something stopping this woman from getting a real job?
It’s ‘beneath’ her.
Patriarchy, I’ll bet.
Is it wrong for me to be disgusted by these people?
Of course not.
Yeah. That’s why I put it up here. They kept literally every giveaway they’ve managed to bilk taxpayers out of and they’re still bitching because they have anxiety.
Won’t somebody think of the musicologists?
Honestly, if your musicalogical degree isn’t from the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople, it really isn’t going to further your career.
/P. Shickele
Fucking Hoople-heads that suck cock by choice~!
Just think of how much he’ll be making with the huge demand for musicologists out there. I see it all the time in my job hunting:
Requirements:
5 years experience with telephone systems
Doctorate in Musicology.
Funky.

Doctorate in Musicology.
Must have drivers license and car, and be able to fit into Dominoes uniform.
Hey, maybe he’s going to be an entrepreneur, and open up his own musicology shop.
I just wish they would. Why are tax payers footing the bill for the indoctrination of these cunts?
It’s an even bigger subsidy for the institutions.
The EU is saying Brexit will be completed by 2020.
And Nigel Farage will still be pissed.
Could someone please turn off the sidebar? Thanks.
Big article on drugs. Kinda cop friendly for what you would expect a very leftist outfit. The word decriminalize does not seem to appear. But Trump is destroying social services…

The Tax Bill Shows the G.O.P.’s Contempt for Democracy
I…I find little to disagree with here, other than the tone, and the mindless citation of Ayn Rand quotes required whenever referring to libertarianism, although that particular quote is a good one.
Telling proggies that have replaced old time religion with a new one where they worship the state and Gaia that their new sugar-daddy god “Big Government” is evil is bound to piss them off, even if it is blatantly obvious and true. After all, they have been conditioned to believe that only what they believe is right think and everyone that doesn’t agree are the ones that are evil. Looking in the mirror and finding that you have it wrong kind of plays havoc with your ability to virtue signal…
When you present the obvious fact to progressives that government = violence they tend to become violent themselves. Especially when talking about taxation. Whenever you mention that taxation is theft they scoff, then when you present that fact that if you don’t pay up men with guns come to either take you away and put you in a rape-cage or kill you if you don’t submit, then they become violently angry. Stating these facts destroys their worldview of themselves as warriors for justice.
Nothing is more disturbing to holy warriors than their belief they are in the right, I guess…
Perhaps the writer should learn the difference between Democracy and Republic.
sigh libertarian there’s that word again…
democracy, which enables and legitimizes this exploitation, is itself an engine of injustice – democracy can be an engine of injustice for many many reasons besides redistribution
injustice of redistribution – well random arbitrary I take whatever I want redistribution is not in any way just
anti-redistributive substance of recent Republican lawmaking
What, like they’re treating everyone equally and making sure all taxpayers have skin in the game? Boo-fucking-hoo!
I feel like I remember back in the day when progressives were ashamed to be linked to redistribution policies.
I seem to remember this too. I also remember a certain democrat president stating that “the era of Big Government is over”.
We’re going for Bigger Government!
It’s worth noting, that those wonderful Nordic countries have low corporate rates and high rates on the rich.
Of course, high rates on everyone too:
https://taxfoundation.org/how-scandinavian-countries-pay-their-government-spending/
Scandinavian income taxes raise a lot of revenue because they are actually rather flat. In other words, they tax most people at these high rates, not just high-income taxpayers. The top marginal tax rate of 60 percent in Denmark applies to all income over 1.2 times the average income in Denmark. From the American perspective, this means that all income over $60,000 (1.2 times the average income of about $50,000 in the United States) would be taxed at 60 percent.
And actually have a lower standard of living than the US.
Well shit, you know who else had contempt for democracy? The nation’s founders, that’s who. They considered it nothing better than mob rule, which is why this nation is supposed to be a Constitutional Republic.
someone tell this shit-stain that over 50% of Americans voted for Trump/Johnson/McMullin, all of whom were pro tax cuts and “anti-redistributionism”. So if democracy is their standard (and it’s a really shitty standard), well, the American people democratically rejected leftist ideas.
As the novelist Ayn Rand put it, under democracy “one’s work, one’s property, one’s mind, and one’s life are at the mercy of any gang that may muster the vote of a majority.”
We all know Ayn Rand is pure evil, so let’s ignore what she has to say and listen to our founders instead:
Oh, nevermind.
Those who love liberty should have nothing but contempt for democracy.
Damn your nimble fingers! I picture the lot of you having too many tarsal joints for God to forgive…
Close! I was thinking of the egg monsters from Alien but this works. Much obliged!
Someone tell Inigo Montoya about this guy…
The Pro Bowl selections are out. No real surprises on the list.
Other than the best kicker playing today (Justin Tucker) and perhaps the best punter of all time (Sam Koch) being left out.
People care about kickers and punters? HAHAHAHAHAHA
Sad-but-true that those two feet are the only reason the Ravens will likely be in the playoffs.
Joe Flacco should have never let Delilah shave his unibrow. It was the source of all his power.
Something always bugged me about the claim that Blue states contributed more to the federal government than they got, especially with the local tax deductions on the books. Well, This guy gave me the last piece, it all has to do with how decentralized income is counted.
Great article. I liked this part a lot:
“Indeed, if I were a radical leftist rather than a firm supporter of free enterprise, I might point out that it appears that blue states are holding red states in a quasi-colonial relationship. Predominantly blue state based corporations exploit red state colonies for revenues, while buying their passive acquiescence through federal spending centrally controlled from Democrat blue Washington, D.C. “
To me, it’s a bogus way to look at it.
If taxes are inflicted on a federal basis, then it’s a question of whether people are paying more of less the same per capita–I suppose. Yes, in a “progressive” tax system, states with higher concentrations of wealthy people a la Silicon Valley, Hollywood, the biotech industry in San Diego, the tourism industry in California, etc. are going to be paying more in taxes than states like Kansas that don’t have any of those industries and focus on low margin commodities instead.
But what does that tell us?
Usually, the progressives who are making this false distinction are arguing that the people of Kansas are foolish for not supporting higher taxes on the rich, but soaking the rich would only make that issue worse.
What are they trying to accomplish with the false statistic? Are they trying to say we should lower taxes on the wealthy so that California pays less?
It’s like the argument about whether being gay is genetic–as if that has anything to do with whether gay people should be allowed to get married or whether religious people should be forced to bake them wedding cakes. The argument is just about signaling. It doesn’t have any bearing on how anyone should vote or even the reasons people should vote as they do.
Meanwhile, the only proper geographic measure of the federal tax burden is across the whole country. The whole country gets taxed by the same system.
The most important measure of the tax burden is personal. How much do I have to pay? Do I want to pay less?
The correct answer is “yes”.
However pointless, it’s still a hinky-sounding canard that gets thrown at me during such discussions, and I needed to at least satisfy my understanding of where that number came from.
Yeah, exactly, it’s a hinky-sounding canard!
People who say that shit about how I should vote for Democrats because California pays so much in taxes should have their faces rubbed in it.

So is the claim that 9 out of 10 Americans Wil have a “postcard-sized” tax return true?
Postcard seems a bit big, since I file electronically (damn tax on paper filers)
I file my state by paper, since the tax programs (or the state) want to charge me $15 for the privilege of filling my state taxes electronically.
What are “State taxes”? I keep hearing people refer to them, but I’m not sure what they are.
*starts to explain, walks away muttering instead*
Oh you’re paying state taxes, they’re just not taken directly from your income stream.
It’s an income tax based alternative to sales tax.
/looks at Cuyahoga county sales tax rate of 8%
Theoretically…
It’s what some people pay in lieu of sales and property taxes.
And others pay in addition to.
Andy is on an e-everything kick – but also doesn’t want to pay to have it done correctly the first time around. (also mandating the vendors who won’t provide the service or product needed to do it correctly) which means we’ll end up paying too much as we fix problem after problem. But as part of it, he got a penalty on paper filers who make more than some amount passed.
I’m going to say no. If you’re looking at a 1040 the way it is now, a lot of the lines on it are not going away.
How whales and dolphins can teach us to be less stupid
I don’t know who wrote this, but I have the idea he needs to be held upside down with his head in the toilet, which should then be flushed several times.
Someone should introduce this douchebag to the orca or sperm whale and see how well he fares with that community shit.
I like them better when they don’t wear their “freedom” masks – easier to keep an eye on.
What would it mean to really take seriously our identity as a ‘we’, our belonging to each other and to our homes—our common home? To be us, rather than just a lot of ‘me’s?
Can I get a “fuck off slaver?”
Don’t tell me what to do.
*Golf clap*
When my in-laws took as to Hawaii several years ago for their 40th anniversary, we swam in a pool with dolphins. It was fun. We were there about an hour, and the dolphins were good-natured and liked to play. They reminded me a lot of dogs. In fact, my impression was very much that they have about dog-level intelligence.
And you know what? Dogs are smart. But not so smart that you should base your personal philosophy on them.
Probably a smarter base for philosophy than Marx or Lenin.
“Lick your own balls, sleep a lot, and chase thrown sticks”
Yeah, much better than the GULAGs and GOSPLAN.
If I could lick my own balls, I’d work as hard as a musicologist?
So fucking much this…
This level of derp was almost too much for me. Too bad I never got my degree in Derpotology.
Dolphins and whales? They’re mammals that weren’t smart enough to evolve in a way that let them escape living perpetually in water. Why would I take advice from those dumbasses?
Cetaceans were all land mammals that returned to the water. The original hot tub revolution, baby.
you mean, that substance that covers 75% of the surface of our planet? sounds like we are the dumb ones 😉
Fire is the basis for all of our technology.
Seawater makes combustion difficult.
Without the land-basis, we’d never be having this argument.
I just read that whole article and couldn’t find one coherent point. Cetaceans have culture, so communism is good?
You have there, the blueprint for every argument for communism posted by millennials who haven’t studied a thing about it.
Apparently, rape culture is okay for dolphins?
That’s how you build community. Through gang rape.

the world is possessed by the ideology of possessive individualism, which comes in different varieties: liberal, neoliberal and libertarian
Those philosophies, taken at face value even, are hardly the dominant ones these days. Taken as “classical” liberalism and libertarianism, they are a very profound majority.
Now, “possessive individualism” is one of those features of human nature that blank slate totalitarians simply cannot abide, and are apparently willing to kill hundreds of millions to eradicate. And sure enough, this a-hole goes straight to collectivism and babbles about transformation, just like the willing apologists and useful idiots for mass murder.
We are born into community
I was born into a family. Was he gestated and delivered from a community owned artificial womb and raised in a creche?
Well you see, Family is a Community and therefore, by transitive properties, Community is your Family’s Family and can tell your Family what to do etc since whats good for your Community is good for your Family in the aggregate, even if it kills your Family, because the Community is your Family.

I’m surprised Portland doesn’t have enough green space for the homeless to defecate. Why did Portland not set aside any brown space?
Also, Portland must have well-fed homeless if they are defecating that often.
Stop feeding them so much fiber!

So 1694 square feet? Damn, they could build 4-5 Scottish-sized houses on that plot.
Bah. If it ain’t hereditary its hardly an honour.
It’s scotland. It’s never an honor.
People ignore rambling old man. Old man gets angry and shakes fist.
Ha!
Someone on another site was referring to him as “Schemer”, and I was mildly surprised at the unusual surname.
Where was this old man and his concern when his party passed that over 2000 page monstrosity we were told we had to pass to know what was in it, huh?
Now we get something that will actually will prove without a doubt that the redistributive and corrupt practices where the left lets government pick whom wins and whom loses is anathema to economic growth, and he is frightened because it will force all the idiots that have believed the shit people like him have peddled about collectivism to face reality. Or maybe it is just that these fuckers are desperate to prevent Trump from getting any kind of successes, since then we can basically look at what Obama did, and point out that every one of the things the liars told us was a success by Obama was actually something bad for America and those Americans that are not part of the left’s oligarchy.

The two best cops I know are former marines. After being in actual combat, they have nothing but disdain for those of their new ‘brothers in blue’ who get jacked up on killing Golden Retrievers or shake with terror while approaching an unarmed 12 year old. One (former Recon) is on traffic duty. Instead of giving out tickets, he just watches movies on his laptop all day while parked under an overpass. Yes, it’s a waste of tax dollars but better than him out harassing citizens.
Tell him when he gets bored of movies, to drive around and use his overhead lights to get slow drivers out of the left lane.
Won’t work. Just yesterday I watched an ambulance trying to get around an oblivious fuckwit in the left lane.

The Federal Government’s Strange Silence About Gun Crimes
Umm… are we sure they lied about it on the form? I’m pretty sure all the report says was NICS rejected 117,407 attempts. How many of those were repeats? How many false-positives? How many honest mistakes by someone who had a conviction two decades ago and wasn’t told when that crime was added to the roster of ineligability?
Sorry NYT, but there are real criminals to catch, and most NICS rejections don’t cross the mens rea threshold for the crime in question.
“mens rea” what’s that? Is it like a male health issue? /HRC
I can easily imagine someone honestly having no idea they are disqualified.
A friend of mine was arrested for driving with a suspended license once.
He had received two moving violations in two years and was under 21 which triggered an automatic suspension (which of course no layperson would know)
The County Clerk’s office sent him his license back after he paid the fine for it so a normal person thinks story over I better drive safe.
Wrong
For several months he’s unknowingly driving around with a suspended license before he gets stopped for failing to make a complete stop. Naturally they arrest him for driving on the suspension.
Cost him a lot of money to get that resolved even though the State never informed him his license was suspended.
If he had known it was suspended he would not have been driving. We (his roomates) would have driven him around as we did once he knew it was suspended.
“gets stopped for failing to make a complete stop”
This has to be the dumbest thing people do to get pulled over.
Someone ought to calculate how much gas is saved by rolling through a stop sign, then do a carbon cost of dumb traffic laws. Maybe we can get the the progs chanting about how bad laws are literally killing the earth and therefore all of us.
“convicted of domestic violence, another violent crime”
Misdemeanor domestic violence is bullshit. It doesn’t have to be violent, or even occur in the victim’s home.
The Lautenberg Amendment is a travesty. How many other laws mandate the loss of a Constitutional right based on a misdemeanor?
I’m not in favour of loan forgiveness on STEM field loans at all, and I’m In engineering. End Federal loans, or at least severely cap the dollar amount access to them as a stepping stone. The Big Education scam got so big because of Fed firehose is spewing money everywhere.I
It’s really weird that I was somehow able to get bachelor and master degrees with zero financing simply by living modestly, commuting from my parents’ home, spending extremely modestly, and working my ass off. Zero student debt out of college.
There are few things that as repugnant as the 1st world university student moaning about the contracts they agreed to honour, while most of the world is comparatively destitute.
This
This is why their whining about their loans and their debt to get a college degree just pisses me off. I commuted an hour each way to college from my parent’s house to save housing costs, worked part-time jobs, and took out minimal student loans. Paid off the loans within 3 years of graduating with a STEM degree. Fuck these whining snowflakes who think the world owes them an easy time.
According to them you are the idiot for not wanting others to pay for a 7 year college romp…
Yeah, avoiding crushing debt while earning a degree that had an excellent ROI is really stupid!
I worked full time all through college, took all my classes at night and on weekends. These overly entitled whiny jerks need to learn about making a sacrifice and working hard to obtain something. But they think they should be able to obtain some bullshit degree for free and be gifted a job immediately making a zillion dollars a year.
My favorite part of the link sloopy posted was that of when the girl couldn’t handle that for her to get a graduate degree was a choice on her end, and that doing so puts her in the same class as those “white men”. I also love how she has internalized that all white men are privileged, when most white men don’t even get a bachelor’s degree.
Fuck you. Earning my doctorate was worse than the Holocaust.
*ahem*
One half a Holocaust. You had 50% white privilege, ne?
I’m unclear… Are you whitesplainin to his black half or high fiving his white half?
Yeah, but his black half is being traumatized by the bizarre anime pr0n that his white half is forcing him to watch. Check your privilege, shitlord!
Self abuse, as it were.
It’s all about the anticipated return on investment. If you are picking a field where you’ll make less than you would picking something else that doesn’t require a degree, going to college was a poor choice whether or not loans were used. Absolutely loans facilitate this, and Fed loans should be abolished to let the marketplace dictate which degrees provide an actual ROI. There are some employers in certain fields that will even pay off your student loans in full after X years of work because that degree is in so much demand and there’s not enough supply.
I’m 100% paying for my master’s now through student loans. I could probably manage to almost or completely self-finance if I chose. For me though, that’s a poor financial allocation. The loan rates are cheap and fixed. I’d rather put that money towards extra payments on my mortgage which has a higher rate or in my investment accounts which are currently yielding triple the return rate compared to what the loan interest costs me.
Some use their Fed sponsored low interest loans responsibly, others use it to vacation through a decade or more of life.
vacation through a decade
I know one woman who studied archeology, financed a trip to a dig in Israel, and squandered her way through $180k before graduating at 29 with her law degree…
or more
…and another who spent a quarter million on her history major, for which she’s still working on her doctorate in her 40s.
Sounds like my cousin. She spent at least $250k on advanced degrees to become a middle-school teacher.
If I recall correctly you used to be able to go to school forever in Europe, and there was a good chunk of people that basically made higher education (not to be confused with learning anything of value to an employer) a life time career. But recently everyone of these countries that allowed this life long tax payer funded party changed it so this was no longer possible. See it was costing them too much to let so many people just coast, and they are running out of other people’s money fast. And yet, here in the US these morons want us to go to that system for some reason.
“If you are picking a field where you’ll make less than you would picking something else that doesn’t require a degree, going to college was a poor choice”
We’re at a similar junction with the step-daughter. Not my flesh and blood so I don’t have to put up a dime, but I don’t want to see her make a mistake she’ll regret. He obvious talent is singing – she’s only been doing it two years and she has leapfrogged peers that have been doing it 10+ years (and this is a locale with over 750 k residents in a 10-mile radius – so she is not just the tallest midget). But she knows it is a tough racket – and is torn between following her obvious talent and doing something more practical. We’re encouraging her to do college and conservatory auditions to see what kind of scholarship money she can get. If the money was equal, she’d choose a university over a conservatory because of the breadth of educational opportunities. I’ve told her a few times that she should consider taking an accounting course as an elective and a marketing course or two. This will give her exposure to all the non-stage opportunities to apply singing talent, and having exposure to accounting will give her an advantage in that she will have some knowledge of business reality that is extremely important for stage and non-stage production. Also, being a tough racket, networking OUTSIDE her chosen field will be just and important as networking inside her field. After doing some community singing and theater production, she is starting to understand how those other fields matter to her preferred one.
This is the kind of stuff private teachers have helped with tremendously, the high school guidance counselor just doesn’t do well enough (partly because they spend so much time on troubled students they just tell the better students what they want to hear to get them out of the office as quickly as possible).
Some of you may have noticed that recently some people are attempting to inject an ‘A’ For “arts” into STEM to form STEAM. I’ve never been the biggest fan of the usage of “STEM” but it was clearly coined as terminology to bundle fields directly related to the development of applied and abstract sciences and technologies.
Victimology is a science!
So your parents subsidized your education.
Yes, in the same way any parent subsidises their high school children.

SJWednesday: Feminists Fight Fossil Fuels For The Frightened Few
“six million people in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area at risk of contamination”…”people of color (DC is a majority black city)”
DC itself is majority black (barely, now), but the six million people in the whole DC area are not nearly black-majority. Stop trying to have your cake and eat it too. Either it’s six million people at risk, or it’s a majority PoC at risk, but it’s not both.
To the dipshit who wrote this – Hydrocarbons of the type carried in these pipelines occur in nature.
One of the biggest lessons learned from the Exxon Valez incident was that more damage was done by the attempts to clean the oil than by the oil itself. Years after the spill, the beaches that had been clensed by harsh detergants and surfactants were barren and lifeless because they killed all the way down to the microbial level. Those that had not been cleaned and left oil soaked were vibrant and full of life – because while some of the macroscopic life died, the microsopic life gorged on the hydrocarbons, and the food chain recovered. Crude oil and natural gas are metabolizeable by nature. So your permanat harm claim is bullshit.
I’ve heard this before a few times. I need to look into this. Makes sense to me. One thing I’ve noticed as a forester is that nature is tremendously resilient and capable of healing herself, though typically not in human time scales.
I admit my own source was a paper copy of National Geographic back in the 90s, so I don’t have an handy-dandy URL.
As someone who works in the environmental remediation business, I can confirm the falsity of their claim.
…Good Lord.
So these idiots would rather spill more oil from inevitable tanker crashes, then?
No, they’d rather humans start dying because fossil fuels were banned.
^^^THIS^^^
A lot of these people see humanity (meaning other people, and especially the people that don’t believe what they do) as a virus infecting poor old Gaia, and believe the way to cure it is to deny everyone but them the benefits of modernity.
When your identity is built around complaining and protesting, “rather” becomes a useless term. They’re not going to be satisfied.
And yet when an environmental catastrophe strike, these are the first people to claim “billions of dollars in damages”.
The poor – even in aggregate – cannot suffer that much damage because they don’t have billions of dollars of property to be damaged. The only ones who can suffer billions in damages are the rich.
The Frightened Few were the lamest criminal cabal ever created by Stan Lee. No match for Spider-Man, nor dare I say Peter Parker himself!
Greetings, Glibs! I’m at the Richmond airport at my gate. I managed not to get sold into sexual slavery last night, so I got that going for me.
The meeting with the competitors went well and was not awkward in the least. I followed the Offeror’s cues and perceived that not all his group knew that an offer is in the making.
So we had a bunch of laughs and talked shop and generally made good progress on turning competition into collaboration.
I am a happy hayeksplosives, and feeling much relieved.
I don’t know what any of this means, but you seem happy, so, *thumbs up*
The saga of my work life over the tumultuous past week of “How the Stomach Turns” has played out ungracefully over various links threads.
Short version is that I got a job offer from a competitor company, but then the Offeror (of whom i am fond) kinda crossed the line while plastered. So that was alarming, and the Glibs crew warned me off even considering the job. So now I am concentrating on partnering our companies, and am pleased to have my personal relationship with the Offeror restored to friendly rivals.
So, you’ve got a level head, a good support group, and mad negotiating skills, is what I am hearing.
And a bad-ass husband who is in a band and wears a kilt. I’m telling you, the girl’s got it all.
I am blessed indeed.

That is a great idea.
That’s great! I’m glad everything worked out. Safe travels back to soon-to-be snowy Mps/SP
Snowy?
Over the last couple days the forecast when from OMG-SNOWMAGEDDON to a light dusting.
/disappointed
Oh, I guess it’s staying north and hitting us rubes in the hinterlands then. Check your white snow privilege.
The real question is whether it was a “named” winter storm.
That recently hatched scare crap is tedious as fuck. And I assume carefully orchestrated into the Cilmate Change money grab phenom.
Have they now started naming storms in the Cities? I thought they were tougher than that! That was always an east coast thing.
We’ve been getting snow every couple days or so, with 6-10 inches on the ground depending on location. We had a snow free November-December, though it was cold at times. Local hockey shop organized a skate around a local lake since the ice was snow free and near perfect. That rarely happens here, since snow usually covers the ice quickly. It was a pretty cool deal. Probably 150 people (mostly kids) skating out on a 2,000+ acre lake with islands and coves all over.
Very cool. Where in the state are you, Still?
Oh, and it’s the weather freaks naming the fucking storms
Named storms outside of Hurricanes = mega retarded.
Colorado has had a lame-ass winter so far, though starting tomorrow we’re finally supposed to be getting some of the good stuff. The ski resorts are desperate, I think they’re all <50% open with most of the snow being manmade crap.
Ely area.
I know it’s just like clickbait. Locals don’t really think about it.
If you move to Richmond, be sure to live in the West End. Don’t cross the river unless absolutely necessary because the South Side is a hellscape unless you get a place out at Lake Chesdin.
I don’t think I’d have to move to Richmond, but frequent visits would ensue. The only reason I met the competitor in Fredericksburg is that we both happened to be out here working with NAVSEA and the Offeror had casually suggested a hotel where I should stay so we’d have a chance to meet.
The initial offer/seduction was last week at Monterey, CA. The prospective job would be in San Diego.
The West End is getting unbearable. It’s turning into prog heaven with all the Northeastern/DC refugees, and the traffic on Broad St in Short Pump is ludicrous. I live in Glen Allen myself, but if I didn’t have family living in close proximity I’d look into moving to Atlee/Mechanicsville. Maybe even *sigh* Midlothian.
Its been a very long time, but Church Hill was redeveloping when I was there and looking like a pretty cool neighborhood, especially if you like urban-type neighborhoods (row houses and whatnot).

Truth doesn’t matter. The narrative requires that Moore sexually assaulted young girls! Seems to me like you need to be sent to the reeducation camps, comrade.

Well, they can’t send those cocktail party invites to themselves.
And the visa policy is a “Muslim ban”. Get your talking points straight!

OT but maybe interesting, saw a huge flash in the sky on my way home from work this morning. Probably another fireball. That would put my personal count up to six.

No. I lived away from city lights for years and they aren’t that rare. Nobody looks up. Yes, lots and lots of acid as a teen and even more mushrooms. I saw what I saw, Dammit!

Anti-rookie bias.
The last time the U.S. cut taxes like this, it was during the Reagan administration.
Made me think . . .
The policies Ronald Reagan campaigned on are pretty much the opposite of the policies Trump campaigned on, but where the press was hostile to Ronald Reagan, it was nowhere near as hostile to Regan as they are to Trump.
I went door to door for Ronald Reagan when I was too young to vote, but I was also a hardcore kid. As I’m sure many of you know, some of the best hardcore ever written was written against Reagan. I still enjoyed the fuck out of it–even though it was anti-Reagan. Here’s a good example of a great song about Reagan by a band you may have never heard before, “Toxic Reasons”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EdGUEbnlvQ
It’s called “Destroyer”.
Yeah, it’s over the top, but a) the wall hadn’t come down yet, and we thought we were still facing a nuclear war at any time and b) it’s hardcore! It’s supposed to be over the top. If it weren’t about Reagan, it might have been about necrophilia a la TSOL’s “Code Blue”.
So, I’m thinking, why don’t we see that kind of stuff coming from the underground about Trump these days?
I suspect one of the reasons is because the mainstream news media has taken over that responsibility for themselves. CNN is going over the top against Trump every day like hardcore bands did against Reagan–like a bunch of overstimulated, angry children running around in circles for fun.
I have to stop by Hot Topic for a new balaclava, so I’ll just meet you guys at the protest. Let’s get Jamba Juice in the food court afterward.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?=1&v=varExpTrTb8
“The policies Ronald Reagan campaigned on are pretty much the opposite of the policies Trump campaigned on, but where the press was hostile to Ronald Reagan, it was nowhere near as hostile to Regan as they are to Trump.”
The only reason you didn’t see how hostile the press was to Reagan was that he didn’t have twitter (he did regularly go directly to the people via speeches on the big 3 back when, though to make sure he corrected the stupid of the dnc operatives with bylines) and the people pretending to be non-partisan reporters at least realized that going batshit crazy like they have today would expose them as the shills they were back then. But yeah, the press hated Reagan, despite their recent attempts to whitewash that these days, with a passion, especially since he made them and the left look like stupid fucks, and more importantly because he won the Cold War and allowed everyone to see the depravity and dysfunction of communism.
I bought that Toxic Reasons 7″ when it came out. So I wish I could say “There’s no anti-Trump hardcore for the same reason there was no anti-Reagan doo-wop,” but actually there’s a glut of anti-Trump punk. I get links almost every day to yet another Punk Against Trump compilation, endless requests to contribute to anti-Trump “charity” records, etc., from so many of my old punk friends—all respectable professionals now, of course, just like the people who listened to Manhattan Transfer when we were kids. Anti-Trump hardcore is *precisely* as lame as ’80s doo-wop was.
There is no more surefire way to almost instantly make your music seem dated than to inflect it with political brain farts. Somehow it seems even worse than when rappers would add the year of their record’s release to their rhymes.

I get that headiness are generally stupid, but this one just had me saying: no shit, that’s what nudists do.
Two thoughts:
1. I think seeing all that nudity might cause me to lose my appetite. (I’m assuming most of the customers are not showing up in Q’s posts.)
2. Are napkins allowed? They might cover up your nudity and therefore be verboten.
People who tend to want to walk around in public unclothed are the sorts of people nobody wants to see in that state.
Also, it’s in Paris, so pretty soon the Migrants will bomb it for the immorality.

“Where we can do something right away is with the equivalent of nutrition. Traditional training in critical thinking — the sort of thing the humanities used to revolve around, before they became focused on “social justice” — seems like it would be a useful protective. A skepticism regarding groupthink, ad hominem arguments and virtue signaling would likely offer considerable protection against the sort of mass hysteria we seem increasingly vulnerable to. Likewise, a social consensus on important ideas — the kinds of things we used to teach in civics classes — would help.”

“Earlier this year, I noticed something in China that really surprised me. I realized I felt more comfortable discussing controversial ideas in Beijing than in San Francisco. I didn’t feel completely comfortable—this was China, after all—just more comfortable than at home.
Restricting speech leads to restricting ideas and therefore restricted innovation—the most successful societies have generally been the most open ones. Usually mainstream ideas are right and heterodox ideas are wrong, but the true and unpopular ideas are what drive the world forward. Also, smart people tend to have an allergic reaction to the restriction of ideas, and I’m now seeing many of the smartest people I know move elsewhere.”

“Twelve Days in Xinjiang: How China’s Surveillance State Overwhelms Daily Life”

I appreciate that public opinion in San Francisco isn’t especially diverse, but maybe he should try comparing it to Las Vegas or Houston instead.
Or maybe the point was that the proggiest of proggy strongholds, which prides itself on “diversity” and “resistance”, is actually more firmly in the grasp of thought control than a totalitarian communist regime.
But they’re not more firmly in grasp of thought control than China.
It’s a bad analogy.
Refusing to go there is what sets us apart from the Robby Soaves, Chica Dalmias and ENBs of the world.
There’s definitely a distinction to be made between “state” thought control and “social” thought control. China has more of the former, but it sounds like SF has more of the latter. Its odd, to say the least, that the experience on the ground of an individual is that you are more “free” to express yourself in China than SF.
And if we are talking about state surveillance apparats, this seems not too far out of line with what we are doing here as well:
I have no doubt that the level of state surveillance in China is higher than here, but I don’t see a difference in kind, only in degree.

It’s easy to say that everyone ought to have certain rights. Democracy is how we come to get and protect them. Far from endangering property rights by facilitating redistribution, inclusive democratic institutions limit the “organized banditry” of the elite-dominated state by bringing everyone inside the charmed circle of legally enforced rights.
Democracy is fundamentally about protecting the middle and lower classes from redistribution by establishing the equality of basic rights that makes it possible for everyone to be a capitalist. Democracy doesn’t strangle the golden goose of free enterprise through redistributive taxation; it fattens the goose by releasing the talent, ingenuity and effort of otherwise abused and exploited people.
Will Wilkinson is a fucking dunce. He reminds me of a small boy parading around in his mother’s high heels and pearl necklace.
Rights are not created and granted by the State, you cretinous poncey nitwit.
What the fuck is that steaming pile of retardation? Wilkinson wrote that?
Democracy is mob rule, pure and simple. Democratic Republicanism is mob rule with restrictions. Allowing everyone to vote doesn’t automatically confer any kind of protections to individuals.
Two wolves and a sheep arguing over what’s for dinner.
“Democracy is fundamentally about protecting the middle and lower classes from redistribution”
If he means redistribution in the sense that the political class takes wealth from everyone and gives it to themselves, then I see his point. But I’d also argue that his precious democracy has done a shit job about protecting the people from the political class.
Well said.
All these people are racist scumbags.

Far from endangering property rights by facilitating redistribution, inclusive democratic institutions limit the “organized banditry” of the elite-dominated state
So a massive redistributionist state which seizes hundreds of billions of dollars a year limits the organized banditry of the state? Sure you wanna go with that, Will?
Hate Christmas? There’s a rage room to let out holiday stress
I would totally pay to go to one of those places sometimes.
All throughout high school and college, my best friend and I would get together to have “Angry Jew Christmas”. Basically, we watch whatever was on TV and talk about how dumb the whole Christmas thing was while eating Chinese takeout.
I miss those times.
There’s a local Jewish jazz band that’s been doing a show on Christmas for the past decade.

One day I’m at the cricket with some mates, big crowd in the cheap seats. This guy and his girlfriend walk across the path in front of the cheap seats. She’s well-endowed, no bra, and her nipples are erect. Guy next to me (not one of my friends) stands up and yells at the top of his voice to the guy, “Hey mate, you left your parking lights on!”. Cue about 2000 people collapsing in hysterics.
As Penn said on the boob episode of Bullshit, in English, any (and all) plural nouns are slang for breasts.
She has some great transmissible spongiform encephalopathies!
Lolz. I had to run through a few mentally as a test. “Mason jars”. “Pendulums” “apples” “shoes” yeah, they don’t all work.
I Do have a habit of announcing at the end of the work day and I am getting comfy enough to undress (YES, AT HOME, YOU PERVS) “it’s time to unleash the hounds” as I de bra. Not sexy, but satisfying.
Ben Shapiro is gushing about Trump’s foreign policy this year. “Thank god he wasn’t the Ron Or Rand Paul that he sounded like on the campaign trail.”
Your scorecard on his foreign policy this year?
Mixed bag at best. Kind of a drunkard’s walk.
Absolutely terrible, which is a welcome improvement from the foreign policy of George W Bush and Obama.
According to Ben, it is Dubya’s foreign policy.
Not compassionate enough
Takes the sting out of a MOAB, doesn’t it?
Meh.

Not sure what he said to China, but they’re still misbehaving in the South Sea.
Mideast is okay.
I don’t know how you manage to listen to that snide holier than thou high pitched whiny sawed off twat.
Unfortunately he hasn’t been like one of the Pauls on FP. However, he hasn’t been that active on it either. Outside of the bombing of the Syrian airbase, I can’t recall anything really being said about what’s been going on in the Mid East. Status quo I suppose? How these people like Shapiro still think the Ron or Rand Paul FP is crazy when what they advocate has resulted in nothing but continuous military activity with questionable results at best is a mystery to me.
It’s like when we warned them about the cost and perpetual Middle East occupation that would result from the Iraq War, and they said – “It will only cost $100 billion and we’ll be out in 2 years tops. Now be quiet, the adults are talking.”
14 years and over a trillion dollars later, we say I told you so.
They say, “Nobody could have foreseen that.”
You know what idiot was just posting in the Tuesday afternoon links? This one.
1/2: Played the Southwest check-in game, where you set up your double monitors with the check-in screen on one and timeanddate.com on the other. I seem to have won, which is good, and now I can start my morning.
2/2: My daugher’s 8. I’ve managed to (despite massive protests from my mother) build within her a healthy mistrust of police and other government authority figures (I exempt her teachers from that, for now).
But I’m finally getting through to her on her thought that “everything should be free”. That’s part petulant “I’m not getting the things I want and I’m upset” and part not understanding, I’m sure, but I’m getting her there.
I’ll raise a monocle-wearing libertarian woman yet.
???
I dont fly often, but I used to fly Southwest a good bit and have no idea what you are talking about.
Checking in exactly 24 hours (to the second) before your flight to secure the best boarding position.
The best boarding position = last. The less time I spend in that sardine can the better…
Good when you’re flying alone, bad when you’ve got a kid with you.
Besides, now that they don’t have that 10k feet electronics rule anymore I can fire up the noise-cancelling headphones and not have to care about what anyone else says for a few hours.
Yeah, the kid thing is a completely different story. To me though, it’s not the noise, it’s the cramped seats, and I’m not huge (6-2, 210). I sat between a married man and woman from PHX to MSP last year; the woman was pushing 300 and the man had to be over. Let’s say that was not a fun 4 hours…
So… no mile-high threesome?
You are still behind the people who pay extra to get in the earlier group.
Hey, if I’m before A45 and I didn’t pay, I won.
Good night, funny Glibs! I need some sleep, post-haste! Hope you all have wonderful, fulfilling days and may all of your fancy-pants beer be not skunky.
US political elites are fiercely taking notes on the EU-Brexit situation. If only we had these techniques last year, we could have done the 2016 election over again and gotten the proper result! Can’t have people believing that our democracy theater has any real impact!
Trumpexit. Time for a referendum.
“literally killed 30 million people, ”
Whoa. Let’s not understate the carnage. Today’s editorial cartoon (Rogers, Pittsburgh Post Gazette) shows Darth Vader, labelled as GOP, having just used his light saber,
labelled “tax plan,” to decapitate a dude labelled as “The Last Middle Class Taxpayer.” Be careful driving today, you don’t want to damage the Orphanmobile by hitting the millions of corpses strewn all over the nation’s highways.
I thought all those bodies I saw strewn about the roads were killed due to net neutrality. Guess I was wrong.
It’s dead bodies all the way down.
Yeah, it took me some time to get to work this morning. Way too many dead bodies on the road.
Something wrong with that cartoon… Ahh I see what’s wrong, that middle class taxpayer is an old white dude, they are all rich.
He probably deserved to be killed, because he assuredly molested some woman at some point.
At what point do they realize that the argument makes no sense. I get that the tax cut has some crap, but they act like taxing business less is going to kill the American middle class, despite that the middle class has always been built on business.
The Democrats are terrified that the tax cut could provide an economic stimulus, which would negatively impact their chances in 2018 and 2020. That’s really all there is to it. They would rather the nation founder under a poor economy than risk their chances at regaining power.
RE: The cop-fetish Florida Woman.
They’re actually going to charge her with a felony for that? C’mon, that’s probably the most action that cop has seen in years!
After Chicago got caught up in the red light camera bribery scandal, they decided to repurpose a bunch of these things at newly established speed zones by parks where the speed limit suddenly drops by ten miles per hour. They must have ran out of funds in the process, because none of the new speed zones are clearly marked. Also, Chicago just happens to have a park about every ten blocks.
Pure delusion.

Holy hell. The comments on that page couldn’t possibly get more inane.
Republicans have their own Obamacare now.
It’s their fault!
TW: Washington Post.
I mean sure it was already collapsing, but now we can blame it on them.
Thirteen million people will stop buying insurance they don’t want when no longer forced to buy insurance.
How does this imply something awful?
Forcing them to get coverage is for their own good! Doesn’t matter that they don’t want it, they need it so we should force them to get it!
Will you all please stop acting like children! Now go sign up for this health insurance, and eat your broccoli.
Well it certainty shows how awful Obamacare is.
If they stop paying then the old people that wealth was being transferred to will have to pay their fair share… That’s unfair!
NO!!!! Don’t force me to buy something I don’t want!
So is this the death of Obamacare? Without the mandate, it will increase the death spiral pace. And the insurance companies – I’m no expert in this area – will be forced to raise prices even higher to try to make up the difference, increasing the speed of the decline.
Thoughts?
Sounds about right to me.
I will say that repealing the individual mandate without repealing Obamacare itself is about the dumbest thing the government could’ve done here.
As RC Dean points out below, anybody wanting Obamacare-qualified insurance will pay through the nose – even the subsidized/discounted plans will cost a ton. The other 95% of people – who actually want sensible health insurance – will opt to buy a plan that won’t create its own death spiral.
Repealing the mandate essentially kills Obamacare. The genius is in the fact that enough nitwits – those that don’t understand how markets work (and especially insurance markets) – can pretend for a couple more years that Obamacare wasn’t repealed. Sure, the remaining 5% of Sandra Flake-type assholes wanting free Cadillac health care plans will bitch to high heaven. Fuck ’em. They might wide up pretending that “health insurance” is only legally whatever Obamacare is and the rest is “not health insurance” – and they will then try to claim that “under Trump, 95% OF AMERICANS DO NOT HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE” and they will be laughed at for being the newspeak totalitarians they are.
Potentially. I see another avenue.
You can currently buy catastrophic health insurance (~$100 month/ family of four). Under Obamacare, it can’t legally be classified as health insurance though, so you are forced to still pay the mandate tax. Without the mandate tax, there’s no disincentive for people buying catastrophic health insurance.
This next part I’m not sure about, but it makes sense to me. If companies can sell catastrophic health insurance that’s not “insurance”, why can’t they also sell slightly more expensive plans that cover more. In other words, pre-Obamacare type plans that aren’t forced to cover drug rehab and sex change surgeries for all. These still wouldn’t be legally classified as health insurance, but who cares without the force of the mandate.
So you will have an entirely separate class of plans that aren’t legally allowed to be called health insurance, but effectively are pre-Obamacare plans.
You can still call them health insurance. They just aren’t ObamaCare-qualified health insurance. You won’t be able to sell them on the exchanges (I think, not 100% sure), but other than that, whether they can be marketed and what they can be called is up to the state insurance commissioners.
I may be mistaken, but as best as I can recall when I purchased the catastrophic plan, I had to sign a form acknowledging it was not health insurance. It also had another section about having this did not exempt me from the mandate, but that first section about not being health insurance was standalone.
Maybe that was just the decision of our state insurance commissioner as you said.
The next big battle will be over the subsidies, either to people buying on the exchanges or directly to the insurance companies or both. The subsidies are all that has prevented OCare from dropping down an epic death spiral. Getting rid of the mandate will put pressure on the death spiral, but the subsidies are where the major distortions remain.
I’ll speak to my own situation. $30K in premiums with $14K in deductibles ain’t happening unless it’s subsisidized.
Looks like you’re the one doing the subsidizing with those costs.
I wish more people would take up the point that paying for health insurance you can’t afford to use isn’t health insurance. It’s paying for an insurance card.
Does this also take away the minimum requirements for those plans? If so, that is a plus.
The requirements to be an ObamaCare qualified plan don’t change. Its just that you don’t get fined for buying a non-Ocare plan.
Then that might actually help, because now there are incentives for both the insurance companies and consumers to have scaled-back insurance plans. Am I right in saying that?
I haven’t checked into her in a long time, but it seems from her twitter feed, that former congresswoman and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney has fallen even more into the depths of actual insanity. https://twitter.com/cynthiamckinney
Speaking of former Presidential candidates, Rosie O’Donnell was offering to bribe two Senators (Flake and Collins) with $2 million in cash, each, if they vote against the tax bill. She made this offer in public.
Are Senatorial bribes tax-deductible in the new plan?
That McKinny person doesn’t seem to have a consistent position on anything.
In my view, bribes shouldn’t be illegal. Accepting them should be.
Rosie counts for at least 3 citizens united.
Lolz
They’re both dangerously insane human beings.
Federal law sez:
Offering $2mm to vote against a bill seems pretty textbook. I’m kinda wondering what “corruptly” is doing in there, whether that means the bribor has to get a personal benefit. Regardless, should be more than enough to bring federal criminal charges and let the jury sort out whether the bribe was offered corruptly. Of course, we have an AG with apparently zero interest in pursuing charges against Democrats, so I doubt anything will happen.
I thought the corruptly part was for things like “I didn’t give the money to Clinton, it went to her “charity” “.

NB: sarc. There’s no reason at all to think that other more “specialized” site wouldn’t pop up if Comcast cracked down on pornhub et. al.
“Alex Hawkins, a spokesperson for xHamster, told Life Site News the repeal would favor the promotion online of a “heteronormative version of sexuality.”
Ending net neutrality will align the US market with more conservative regimes across the world, not just in terms of porn, but also ideas about sexuality, Hawkins said.”
Because gay porn uses more bandwidth?
Hawkins mistakes “Hetreonormative” for “Prudish”. But bothering to grasp that words have meanings does not appear to be their strong suit.
Wait, what? How does no net neutrality do this? Proggy hysteria is so ridiculous I have a hard time believing that they believe the nonsense coming out of their mouths.
It’s because paid porn will be able to pay for the fast lane, and the free porn will be throttled (NTTAWWT), and no one wants to wait for their pron, so they’ll… I lost the plot. I can’t unravel a chain of illogic that makes this work.

We think that Net Neutrality would better control our costs for the delivery of our product. Reluctantly ordered new gloves yesterday. Going to miss the tried and true Hespelars.
https://imgur.com/gallery/hQQKk
Are those good? In sled hockey we put the back of our hand on the ice to turn. So we go through gloves pretty fast.
I loved them, but they are really soft leather. I don’t think they’d stand up to the abuse you’re talking about. Here’s a suggesting from my ‘playing days’ to extend the life. Find the area that you’re putting on the ice and cover liberally with Shoe Goo. I was a goalie so I put it around the back side of my trapper from the laced area out about 3″. I literally (yeah, I”m using that word) had no wear on that glove.
Thanks, that’s a great tip. I’ve used something called Tuff Toes on my kid’s roller skates, and it seems like that would work, but it’s a lot more expensive. Shoe Goo’s a lot less expensive. Plus the waterproofing will help a lot. It’s probably not helping when the knuckles get wet after a sloppy Zamboni job.
First comment is brilliant!
What did you order? The palms in my Bauers are getting bad.
Some nylon Eastons. I’ve had these repalmed twice, but there’s nothing left to work with now.
do you cut the palms out of your gloves as soon as you get them?

Pink trim.

The way I see it, dropping the corporate income tax rate to 21% will incentivized companies to lowere their prices, in order to gain market share. That is the short term, effect. Longer-term, the lower rate makes some ventures that are currently untenable attractive, which means an increase in business startups. This will increase demand for labor, which will drive up wages and salaries.
Win.
Win.
My argument is flawless, and beyond all contestation.
They can also use the ability to retain more of their income to build-out capacity, or other investments in their own business, allowing them to hire more in the medium term.
False.
It will cause a plague of locusts followed by rivers of blood.
Oh.
My bad.
I’ve read dissenters insisting that nobody actually pays the nominal corporate rate, so dropping it won’t have a huge effect.
Then why so much scheree reeeee eching?
Because Trump.
Just like the ACA bill, it’s simultaneously world-ending and also totally ineffective so why bother.
So why’s anyone bitching about lowering it then?
These dissenters fail to acknowledge that jumping through loopholes in order to avoid paying the nominal rate incurs costs, as well.
They also seem to not realize that smaller firms may not have the knowledge and/or resources to avoid paying the nominal rate.
Agreed, but it’s odd that the people making the argument that curtailing corporate taxes won’t have the effect reformers suggest don’t also acknowledge who exactly pays the tax in the first place. Corporations are cunning enough to figure out how to lower their effective rates, but somehow too dumb to pass the burden along to consumers/employees/investors.
Wrong. Corporations will either donate that money to Republicans, or convert it to gold coins, put it in a huge vault, and swim in it.
I think I need some pointers. I’ve got the swimming pool full of gold coins (of course), but when I jump in I just . . . land on it and can’t seem get any swimming action going. What’s the secret?
There are youtube videos of Scrooge McDuck demonstrating the proper technique. It’s a subtle one.
But these evil korprashuns will make profits! Not fair!
So is McCain a coward hoping to vouchsafe his legacy by treading water between opposing tax reform or committing to it, or might we luck out and see the end of the daft asshole?

Another reason to move to ND
So now I need to set up a ND branch of my employer out there and lay in an airstrip for private jets?
I’m good, but I’m not that good.
There are plenty of public airports in ND for your corporate aircraft needs, and that distance seems more like a turbo-prop mission.
You could have had the flight department drop you into Stafford Regional rather then go all of the way to Richmond.
Are you a NoDak, Dr. Lawn?
No, sorry I’m in NJ… and my recent ND experience did not have me leaving the airport. Fuel/Lunch in Beulah, ND, cheap fuel between Midland MI and Kalispell MT.
My charts just show plenty of airports across the country for the smaller than airliner crowd.
Ahhh, gotcha.
North Dakotans don’t pay their fair share.
I know. It’s awesome.
Then again, winters. Seven degrees? People aren’t meant to live that way.
It keeps the riff-raff out. And the nasty bugs and snakes.
Line me up a job and I’d move in a heartbeat. But I’m taking a four-month sabbatical to come back to New Mexico every year.
Why would you want to return to New Mexico during the summer?
Nodaks aren’t people.
Nope. Way nicer than people.
I think you meant “summers”.
There’s a problem with their math – they compare averages. This produces things like the wage gap, which are not reflective of reality.
To talk about New York, you have to take the City and the rest of the state as separate entities first. The entire economic profile is different. then you have to make sure your average either takes into account ‘income’ in the form of welfare and ilelgal sources, or excludes those people from the calculation entirely. Because when comparing average income to expenses, you need to factor in all the revenue streams, even if it’s redistributory. Put simply, money may be tight, but it’s not negative.

Ew, no.
The answer is real dogs who love the snow.
^This^
My dogs get noticeably excited when I let them out after the first measurable snow. They love playing and rolling in it. And eating it.
And they are funny in the spring; they get used to doing their business on the snow, so as it melts they keep seeking out the last white areas. It’s fun to watch them hunt around for “toilets” when the snow is almost gone.
I love winter. I would move to Fairbanks in a split second if I could find a job.
I love winter in Southern Arizona. A refreshingly crisp 38 degrees this morning. Looking forward to clearing 60 degrees by lunch and topping out at 69 degrees for the day. Should be perfect for a cocktail by the outdoor firepit this evening.
For me, I think it’s one of those longing for what you were deprived of. The list of places I lived before coming to a place with an actual winter was: Albuquerque, Tucson, Miami. Now I hate hot weather and love snow.
That extra income should be nice for the 2 months out of the year you can venture outside your igloo.
Thanks to global warming, it’s more like 2.5 now.
Speaking of global warming, we are supposed to have a Christmas Day high temp of -4 deg Fahrenheit.
Not sure here, haven’t checked yet, but it was 57 F here yesterday, didn’t even need a jacket.
Man, that would be nice. I think it got all the way to16 here yesterday.
Looks like it will be colder here Christmas day, only 36 for the high.
I think we are a high of 36 for Christmas.
At 7am it is 70 with an expected high of 79. I just got back from a quick ocean swim before work. When I get to work I will hear my co-workers bitch about the cold. In the summer I will hear about the awful heat when it reaches 90.

“No, HHS Did Not ‘Ban Words’
In other words, what happened regarding these other terms (“transgender,” “fetus,” “evidence-based,” and “science-based”) was not that retrograde Republicans ordered career CDC officials not to use these terms but that career CDC officials assumed retrograde Republicans would be triggered by such words and, in an effort to avoid having such Republicans cut their budgets, reasoned they might be best avoided. With regard to “evidence-based” and “science-based” in particular, I gather the reasoning was simpler than that, and that the group thought these terms are so overused in the CDC budget documents they were discussing as to become nearly meaningless and that their use should be limited to where it actually made a point.”

Wow.
I’ve read dissenters insisting that nobody actually pays the nominal corporate rate, so dropping it won’t have a huge effect.
Those “dissenters” wouldn’t by any chance be “tax professionals” would they?
It’s no doubt true, but irrelevant; “corporations” are not tax-paying entities. That money has to come from somewhere.
CORPORATE TAX IS MADE OUT OF PEOPLE!
You would be surprised how many people don’t grasp this basic concept and think somehow corporations are a real magical entity…
I wish these people didn’t style themselves tolerant anti-racists, because what they really mean is THE JOOS TAKE ALL THE MONEY. It would clarify things immensely if they admitted it.
“Turkish Islamic preacher says men without beards cause ‘indecent thoughts’ in other men because they look like women”
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5193601/Preacher-says-men-without-beards-cause-indecent-thoughts.html
Don’t goats also have beards?
He basically said that either Turkish men are so womenly they get mistaken for them when beardless, or Turkish women are so masculine that they look like shaved men.
Women without beards tempt other women.
STEVE SMITH NO CARE IF MAN OR WOMAN HAVE BEARD, RAPE ANYWAY!
I can take a stab at explaining this.
When Attaturk founded the modern Turkish state, he wanted a western republic on the french model using the latest western doctrines (i.e. a variation of fascism known as Kemalism) and the biggest opposition were the religious authorities. He neutered this opposition through a wide variety of laws that ranged all over the continuum between the sort of nudges that the Niskanen center would approve of to ruthless terror.
One element of this was harassing people with long beards and making it unfashionable. They also banned the fez and religious prosletyzing. This worked to the point where I can’t recall ever seeing a Turk with a long beard, and most just only grow mustaches or go bare-faced.
Now, in Turkish culture, a man’s social worth is dependent on how masculine they are perceived to be. This perception can be overthrown in a wide variety of ways, and can only be redeemed by beating the crap out of the person who called your masculinity into question. As a result one’s masculinity is both precious and under threat. So, Turkish men are hyper sensitive to things that might call their masculinity into question, since if you don’t nip those questions in the bud, you can find yourself socially ruined with no realistic possibility of redeeming yourself.
So, what this preacher is trying to do is to promote a return to growing long beards by leveraging the ever-present fear that Turkish men have that one day they’ll be seen as unmasculine.
So, Turks are insecure?
Unbelievably so..
One element of this was harassing people with long beards and making it unfashionable.
Something he stole from Peter the Great.
Was the coin the same for all? Could an enterprising peasant make a profit paying Beard taxes for the nobility and selling them the coin for less than the tax?

“I don’t know what it means to pay taxes on a normal income,” he said. “I can’t even imagine making that much money right now.”
Because getting real skills is hard work. Better to just sloth around the halls of a public university for the rest of his net tax payer drain of a life.
I was paying taxes on normal income at my first real job. If your degree program makes $20k/yr “more money than I can imagine making”, your degree program sucks.

Looks like that endowment tax is still there. Which makes me SO happy. It bothers me to no end that the fancy universities are sitting on literally billions of dollars, while they pass on the cost of all that administration and bullshit to students, who then pass it on to tax payers.

with the NYT and CNN take on the very same legislation, I have to wonder if they’re even talking about the very same legislation. One take sounds great for the economy and the middle class, the other dooms the entire planet to complete annihilation.
It’s the “Wall Street” Journal. Betting is a tax on stupidity. Their core readership is a bunch of professional gamblers who can’t afford to be stupid.
The NYT core readership is all about virtue signalling.
CNN doesn’t have a core readership. Because no one watches that show.
The NYT core readership is all about virtue signalling.
Utterly and completely. I doubt any of the Times’ readership base will be refusing their tax cut, or even donating the marginal savings to charity. They’ll decry how awful and terrible the tax cut is on their way to their accountants to find out how he’s going to take advantage of it.
That sound about right. A conversation with them typically will go like this.
You: How are you enjoying that tax cut?
Them: I didn’t get a tax cut!
You: Really, so you don’t earn enough to pay taxes?
Them: I’m a one percenter and I pay more taxes than you ever will!
You: Oh, so you were just saying that the one percent got all of the tax cuts, so you did get a tax cut?
Them: Ye… ugh… you, uh… I want to pay more taxes, that’s why I hate Donald Trump!
They are always free to cut the government a check.
The bodies have started to pile up here in the streets already. But the good news is that we can use them as sandbags when the oceans start their inevitable rise.
And the House hasn’t even voted again yet. Just wait until the Trumpnazi signs it. Where are we even going to bury all the dead? I’m afraid they’ll start to smell before the oceans rise enough to need them for sandbags.
The bodies have been piling up in Chicago long before any tax cuts were enacted.
It’s an elective degree for some people — like white men, those who come from wealthy backgrounds,” Ms. Hernandez said. “But for people like me, it’s not an elective degree; it’s a struggle, not just for me but for my community. We have to get these degrees because we need to make it more normal for us to be in these fields and be at the table.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRETARD.
Ms. Hernandez, people who actually care about their subject matter don’t care about the identity intersections of the people at the table – just what they know and can bring to the table that is useful.
I don’t know even know what I just read. Was that supposed to mean something?
So self-segregating into a glutted field with little value other than teaching other students buys her a seat at the table with all those privileged white men who presumably got practical degrees?
“It’s an elective degree for some people — like white men, those who come from wealthy backgrounds,”
Fuck you. Fuck you in the ass, Ms. Hernandez. If your background was so desperate and struggling, you wouldn’t be getting a graduate degree in Political Science. Yes, your choice to get a graduate degree in the field is about you wanting to have political influence, personal political influence at somebody else’s expense. The sooner your sorry ass can get kicked out of graduate school the better for all civilization.
Political science is of no use whatsoever to society. It’s just a way for someone to sit around an academic institution and waste valuable breathable air.
It’s not even her expectation of a subsidy for providing no particular value (which is bad enough in its own right). It’s the Goddamned sense of entitlement that says her useless navel-gazing is so utterly more important than everyone else’s because identity. What she’s saying is that she’s entitled to public support, not because she’s brilliant at what she does, not because she might be able to provide some marginal benefit at some unknown point in the future because of her studies, but because she’s a Mexican with a twat. Seriously, any marginal amount of sympathy I might have had for grad students out of the tax reform is dissipated by this. Now I take delight in lapping up their sweet, sweet, tears of dispair.
Not surprisingly for a Mexican girl, she does seem like she has a thicc ass. I mean, she’s not Dominican, but you make do with what you have.
Thicc or just flabby? I don’t see any back shots on the link.
If she’s the one in the middle, I would agree that she likely has a thicc ass. After you’ve studied Thiccology for a while, you can tell without seeing any back shots. Wait, I think I’m onto something here. Can we just replace all these feminine studies with Thiccology? I need some grant money to research this important field.
I would suggest putting all PoliSci majors in gas chambers, but they don’t have any personal wealth to seize.
Just seal the vents on their current echo chambers, they will refuse to admit they’re running out of air.
The TV personality also revealed in a statement on her website that she was leaving the network due to a ‘massive disparity in pay’ between her and Kennedy.
Well, I can only assume that, even given the massive disparity in pay, she’s still well provided for. Otherwise an “entertainment journalist” making a scene while quitting without something else lined up might not be the best career move.
“Minnesota mother pleads guilty to killing boyfriend during YouTube stunt
20-year-old from Halstad will serve 180 days in jail.
Perez, who has two small children with Ruiz, will serve her six-month term 30 days per year for the next three years and then become eligible to serve the balance on electronic home monitoring, as long as she abides by the terms of her 10-year supervised probation.
Authorities say Ruiz, 22, held a hardcover encyclopedia against his chest, and Perez stood barely a foot away and squeezed off a shot from a .50-caliber Desert Eagle pistol, to see whether the bullet would go through the book.”
http://www.startribune.com/young-minn-mom-pleads-guilty-to-point-blank-killing-of-boyfriend-during-ill-fated-youtube-stunt/465182453/
Not sure she’s guilty of murder, but her and the x boyfriend are both guilty of being retarded.
Reckless, so manslaughter would be appropriate. Article paywalled, so not sure what the actual conviction was for.
Oh, and definitely retarded. What kind of dumb fuck doesn’t test it first without a person behind the book?
Manslaughter (no paywall)
Not seeing any paywall.
Anyway, here is another one:
https://nypost.com/2017/12/19/woman-pleads-guilty-in-botched-youtube-prank-that-killed-boyfriend/
“The Star Tribune reports that 20-year-old Monalisa Perez pleaded guilty last week to second-degree manslaughter in the June death of 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz III.”
Is it considered reckless with the “victim’s” consent or is that irrelevant?
That’s what I was thinking, too. And not only consent, but she was following his commands. And she apparently resisted at first, but was convinced by the victim talking her into it. This is a shitty situation all around and I feel bad that this girl has to spend any time in jail.
The victim’s consent doesn’t excuse the bad judgment/recklessnees of the killer. I mean, if someone gave you one of those handcannons and told you to shoot at them while they held a book in front of their chest, would you do it?
Plus, the victim didn’t consent to getting killed.
I think this was mis-charged. We need a charge for “contributing to the achievement of Darwin Awards”.
Is there any point to 5lb. gas-operated handgun?
Yes.
Gratuitous ironmongery is its own reward.
So Hollywood has insanely huge pieces to swing around in movies.
Yeah, you’d think maybe fastening the book to an inanimate object and shooting it first might be something that’s almost automatic if you’re not retarded. Oh well, this is how the gene pool gets cleaned out.
But they already procreated…twice.
Hopefully they inherit more of her obsequity than his idiocy.
Hmm, I don’t know who John Ganz is or what “The Baffler” is, but according to FB, he’s just posted an article declaring that Trump is the kind of president Rothbard hoped for.
“The Baffler”
Failed Batman villain?
Its a left-wing political/literary magazine founded by Thomas Frank in the 1980s. think Jacobin, Dissent, etc.
Hi. I’m a 33 year old Mexican-American. I elected to get my grad degree. I elected to find a way to pay for it despite my $28k/year salary at the time. I even elected to begin working on it during my second tour in Iraq. Get fucked.
You’re male so you don’t count.
Did you just assume my gender?
Not until you get the bottom surgery my friend.
Speaking of useless degrees….

Well, there is always Teen Vogue.
Why is he famous? Other than writing books no one buys at marvel, what has he ever done?
He gives affluent white lefties the intellectual whips-and-chains routine they love so much. I’m betting the people who revere him have a cuck fetish, too.
Universities just swoon if this guy offers to speak at some event they are holding, because the guy just echoes their far left idiocy. All you have to do to be popular with the left is to just parrot their dumbest current talking points. That’s why they all do it.
“Well, there is always Teen Vogue.”
What are his anal sex skills?
Apparently, he’s a bottom.
He didn’t lose!, he’s just resisting!
“The philosopher essentially stated that Coates makes money from writing guilt porn for neoliberals who complain endlessly about social inequalities on an iPhone X while indulging in their Starbucks lattes.”
That’s good.

“Mika Brzezinski is warning women and men that the #MeToo movement may be spiraling out of control and lead to dangerous consequences in the workplace.
“I know men who won’t hire women now,” she said on the set of “Morning Joe” Tuesday. “Right now any woman can say anything, and a man’s career is ruined. Now, a lot of women can say things that are true, and [the men’s] careers should be ruined. But the problem is that any woman can say anything, and that’s it, it’s over. Is that how we’re running businesses now?””

Good luck putting the Lefty victimhood toothpaste back in the tube you hack.
The FRANKEN RECOVERY MANEUVER?
So does this offset the money they’d save by paying women less?

Like Democrat politicians and other assorted lefties getting caught up in their own trap? Maybe Morning Joke is next?
Maybe hubby hit on a production assistant.
I wonder if that one has chicken legs as well?
Mika must be terrible in bed.
So Mika is stealing Christina Hoff-Summers argument nearly word for word?
If Trump can use the DACA “kids” as a bargaining chip to get real immigration reform, I’m ok with this. But this can’t be another “buy now, pay later” that just encourages more illegal immigration so we’re in the same position 5 years from now.
https://www.politico.com/story/2017/12/19/senate-white-house-trump-lay-groundwork-for-daca-deal-306298
My position on Amnesty is simple – If you are here illegally and leave without us having to deport you, you can apply like anyone else without prejudice. If we have to deport you, you should be forever barred from legal entry. No one should be allowed to go from being illegally here to legally here without leaving the country first.
I completely agree with your position on principle. As a practicality and for political expediency, I’m ok with them giving DACA kids permanent residency with no possibility of citizenship. If they want to be a citizen, then they have to return home and follow the rules. Giving them the privileges of citizenship is too perverse of an incentive. Of course the Dems wouldn’t go for that because then they’d lose all those sweet votes.
So, Trump handed this over to Congress, knowing they won’t get anything done. He won’t intervene and it will simply expire, like it should. Do we have a shortage in the labor force? Then give them work permits, but nothing more. But like UnCivil is saying below, no citizenship unless you go the legal course. Which means go home and apply like my wife had to do.
I am okay with the idea of “amnesty” however I would tie a few strings to it. For example, your children would be granted full citizenship, however you Mr. Illegal guy, are not allowed to vote. Ever.
Actually, that’s about the only string I attach to it.

While it is plausible (but unlikely) that Meryl Streep knew about Harvey Weinstein, there is no doubt she knew about Roman Polanski, a fugitive, convicted child rapists. And while knowing this, she gave him a standing ovation.
They all knew. It was a wide open secret. Hell, it was even joked about on national TV. She absolutely knew about him and kept her yap shut because she knew he could give her a career a lot of help, or a lot of damage. So brave. So woke.
Hollywood people lecturing us on our morality are scum. Period. Full. Fucking. Stop.

It’s so good, it’s worth sharing twice.
“A MUM-OF-TWO has revealed how she handcrafts beautiful Christmas ornaments – by mixing glitter with her own powdered placenta. Jordan Harrison, 29, keeps her three-year-old son Ezra’s dehydrated afterbirth, which has been ground into powder, in her freezer. She then mixes the granules with glitter and paints blank ornaments with the result to create an unusual festive decoration. Jordan, from Michigan, Illinois, USA, also makes her placenta into CHOCOLATE treats so she can eat it as well as mixing into soups and smoothies.”

Dare I say “Eh. China.”
Take that, Uber
The ruling is the first to apply to Uber across the European Union. In a statement, the company said that it already operated under the transportation law of most European countries in which it did business, and that the ruling would have little impact. It added that it would continue a dialogue with cities across Europe for its services.
Elite Taxi, the group that brought the case, said in a Twitter post, “Today, taxi drivers have beaten Goliath.”
The Barcelona-based law firm representing Elite Taxi praised the decision and said in a statement that it could be “extrapolated to other businesses that keep trying to avoid legal responsibilities in the services that they provide.”
The case may provide a benchmark for countries seeking to regulate the broader realm of independent work, where as much as 30 percent of the working-age population in the United States and Europe labors, according to the McKinsey Global Institute. Some worry, though, that such a group r could soon become an underclass.
The EU, sclerotic? Anti-innovation? Never.

ARRRRRRRR!

I’ve been wondering why Uber has been able to get away with ignoring so many regulations and laws that apply to labor and transportation. When Uber is discussed as if it were a real business rather than a pirate operation I am amazed. When workers at Uber complain about harassment and mistreatment I think it is kind of like being upset about working conditions in organized crime. I guess laws only have meaning for us little people, not the swashbuckling innovators that have brought us so many fabulous disruptions.
I thought coloring outside the lines was one of progressivism’s highest ideals. Not anymore.
Uber is one of the greatest things ever. And they want to turn it into just another cab company? Why?
Remember when having a side hustle was a good thing? When Uber was lauded as leading the charge on the new “sharing economy”?
Yeah, neither do they.
And they want to turn it into just another cab company? Why?
The nail that sticks up gets pounded down.
