I have no idea why I’m awake this early, but as long as I am, let’s take a cynical view of the news.
Once again, our brave Federal law enforcement heroes have thwarted a terror plot. One which was hatched by an ineffectual loon, and encouraged, enabled, and abetted by… our brave Federal law enforcement heroes.
Another one of Obama’s wars is nearly at its third birthday. Oh wait, it’s not really a war, we just send “advisers.” And weapons. And provide logistics. And Special Forces. And… I think I’ve seen this movie before.
The Left continues to pimp for extending the War On Drugs because this time, it’s the wrong sort of people involved. You know, rural white people. THEY’RE FUCKING UP OUR STATISTICS! Putting them in cages seems only fair.
There has long been an affinity between the Chinese and Jews- they share a strong cultural affinity for family, education, commerce, entrepreneurship, and tribal loyalty. And the Chinese, taking note of what’s happening in both the US academic world and the active government discouragement of business innovation in traditional areas like Silicon Valley, are reciprocating (((our))) love for moo goo gai pan. Hat Tip to Chafed (and gaslight as well).
Old Guy music time! This was from a fascinating album- how would Stephen Foster’s classic American songs sound if arranged and played in the modern folk style? The answer is that they’re great songs in the sense of being timeless and adaptable. It was a clever idea, and Nathan Edwards is talented enough to pull it off.
But, I thought the left was down with the drugz!? That’s what conservatives always tell me anyway.
Drugz are cooler when you wield power.
Speaking of the war on drugs…check this out :
http://fox8.com/2017/12/21/elderly-couple-told-cops-60-pounds-of-marijuana-was-for-christmas-presents/
Normally I’d say the “I thought I could smell the drugs in their car” bit is probably BS, but 60 lbs? I’d imagine that would give off a pretty strong scent.
I really miss the days when I could agree with the left on issues of drugs, sex and censorship.
In the end, there was only ass sex.
Not even Mexicans?
hatched by an ineffectual loon, and encouraged, enabled, and abetted by… our brave Federal law enforcement heroes.
That’s not how they told it on the CBS evening news.
Ha! I read the statements…they had this guy going from start…also, he had what looks like all of 12 rounds – 2 different types in two different magazines for two different weapons…and three “fireworks” (couldn’t tell if firecracker or bigger). This wasn’t exactly a 9/11 in the works.
I’m just mildly surprised that the media isn’t taking a more skeptical look – after all this credits to the Trump Admin as they tell it. Wouldn’t they want to point out the buffoonery to deflate any credit to the Orange One?
Though we’ve lived in the Bay Area for over 30 years, and spent 15 years living in the city, I can probably count the number of times I’ve been to Pier 39 on one hand. It’s just a very touristy, overcrowded place with no parking and not much even in the way of public transit to get there, with the same cheesy tourist traps and chain restaurants you can see in the touristy section of many other cities.
But yesterday my wife and son went there with friends as part of a Christmas sights tour around San Francisco. And they were right in the middle of the place this guy was targeting that they keep showing on the news. So perhaps this guy wasn’t a true threat, but my wife is sure freaked out about this.
Most of these guys (like the ones driving the trucks into crowded areas) seem like isolated loons. If they don’t actually commit their planned act, people joke about what losers they are, and how they weren’t real threats. The ones that are able to pull off something, despite their ineptness, can cause a lot of misery, and no one jokes about what inept losers they were then. So no matter how loony this guy was, we’re just glad he was prevented from harming my family.
I’m conflicted about these stings. On the one hand, it mostly seems like a bunch of losers who have neither the ambition or ability to pull off a terrorist act. There’s a lot of bravado that would likely wither on the vine if left alone. On the other hand, there is the occasional attack by this type. I have no idea how to distinguish between who will and who won’t. I hate the effective entrapment of the bloviators. I hate the deaths of the innocent even more.
I don’t see these as stings – many of these guys are just loudmouths who are being entrapped to burnish some federal stumblebum’s resume.
Many is the operative word. What about the rest? I don’t know the right answer.
Woke up early to watch el Classico. What happened to my life…
Real leagues are on their winter break.
Ganz recht!
No BeIN Sports here, so I’ve been catching up on ESPNFC – not very classic.
well what happened? don’t keep us in suspense
There was a lot of pointless running around and a scoring chance every 35 minutes.
Too many drama queens.

Oh, Susanna.
So, Gallant doesn’t work for CNN, ABC, NBC or CBS, NYT, WaPo…
Gallant is fake news, nobody acts like that.
Happy Festivus y’all.
I for one really appreciate the Old Man doing links as the weekends are the only time I can get my Glib on. I late read the rest and dead thread bitch about the rigged Russian influenced Best Rack of 2017 vote.

Once again, our brave Federal law enforcement heroes have thwarted a terror plot. One which was hatched by an ineffectual loon, and encouraged, enabled, and abetted by… our brave Federal law enforcement heroes.
Aah. The Chris Christie playbook ftw.
In this case it seems the idiot was actively seeking resources to carry out an attack. There was no encouragement necessary.
Old Guy music time!
And of course it’s on Spotify!
Thanks, OMWC.
Texas boy, age 6, killed when deputies fire on ‘cornered’ suspect
“presenting to be armed”
I’ll be very surprised if a gun doesn’t turn up – just because I assume at least one cop has a throw-away.
They found an 8 inch piece of pipe that they say she was wielding. Close enough for government work.
God, this sort of thing seems to happen with every statement a cop makes. They try to use terminology that they think will make them sound smart, but of course they don’t use it in ways that make any sense, so they end up sounding like total retards.
The deputies were triggered.
This is a tragic story. Thanks for the morning nut punch. ?
It’s not a tragedy, it’s an outrage.
I see no mention of how many
deputies fired their weaponsdeputies’ weapons discharged and how many bulletswere firedtriggered themselves.but police brutality is much worse in Europe. much worse.
Pie, You hear about it here – do your government run/monitored/funded/licensed media sources tell you about government actors …acting badly? If the cops at the railroad station in Prague wallop some Roma hanging around, is it front page stuff?
Sorry, friend. In a freedom measuring contest…Europe is still all too happy to wear the EU and socialist yoke.
if the Roma was killed it probably would. And the Roma would not be 6. freedom measuring contest has nothing to do with it
I thought you were carrying on your argument of yesterday…
I was. and the argument is police is more brutal in S.I said yesterday there probably is more freedom in the states in my first comment. Just not by as much as you claim. And I stand by it. But there is also more police brutality. And less punishment for it. Overall, which may be meaningless due to the sizes of US and EU
I think the police brutality is closer than you think – but it sure doesn’t get punished here much, if at all.
I would sure rather have the Irish Guarda than the Chicago PD…
I’d rather have the Mossad.
We wouldn’t have near as much in the U.S. if we punished it even half as severely as the rest of our criminal sanctions.
So a bunch of grown men, armed with clubs and whatever else they had on their bat belts, couldn’t subdue an unarmed woman and small boy without using guns.
The boy was inside a nearby trailer — nothing to do with the woman.
Cops shouldn’t be allowed to carry guns.
They have to get home at night. No precaution is too much to ensure the safety of our boys in blue.
Don’t be naive. I know the real reason the Chinese are in Israel.
Like they don’t have enough hotties of their own, they have to go horn in on the rest of the world hotties. Saw a This is Life with Lisa Ling about the new crop of young Chinese billionaires here in the States. Those guys are cleaning up on the trim.
Well, there is a pronounced woman shortage in China.

“There has long been an affinity between the Chinese and Jews- they share a strong cultural affinity for family, education, commerce, entrepreneurship, and tribal loyalty.”
You sound like my father’s long-time ((((business partner, lawyer and friend)))). Just replace Chinese with Italian. So he tells me. In fact, a couple of guys I hung out with in college and worked with said the same thing to me. They also say of Greeks and Italian ‘una faccia, una razza’.
Jews and Italians were so intermingled in mid-20th century NYC that there’s really no difference.
There is certainly some overlap between Italian and jewish grandmothers.
200 lbs and a black dress?
I was thinking more of the ability to make a grown man feel like he’s always 10 years old.

Deftly and ruthlessly.

Jewtalians?
Yeesh.
Surely you know the word “ghetto” comes from Italian.
I thought it was Harlem.
Fun fact: One side of my family is from Japan; the other half is wypipo. A relative in Japan was doing some lineage research and visited some temple that maintains genealogy records, and it said that our family came to Japan from Turkey in the 7th century, and there’s a tiny sliver of Jewish ancestry. I guess I’ve been one of (((them))) this whole time and never knew it.
I wish the Saudis and our war lords would leave Yemen alone and just start bombing Iran. Quite beating around the bush on WW4. Get it on or STFU and sit down. I wish our war lords were smart enough to leave that one alone.
Ask a proggie about Yemen sometime. I am willing to bet that they know absolutely nothing about our involvement there.
Or Somalia. Or Niger. Or Chad. Or Cameroon. Even Syria. Probably not Iraq. Or Afghanistan.
Fuck.
That was essentially the last FB rant I did (before I gave up) that got me defriended by all my Bernie Bro friends who have an Obama shrine in their houses. I know I live in a bubble, but jebus, them folk never even get a sniff of air outside of their bubble. I at least yell at NPR on my drive to work so I am balanced and arrive at work with high blood pressure.
How about just carpet bomb Saudi and repopulate the place with rednecks to mine the oil and stabilize the place
Uuh, no? They can have their oil and we need our rednecks to drill in Alaska now.
Nice song OMWC. Earlier this morning I was listening to Bobby Weir and Allison Kraus doing a modern version of an old Scottish song. This was one of my favorite moments from the 8 hour Warren Haynes Xmas Jam last year.

I love Americana, and Foster was its Bach. A good friend of mine released an album of what we now call “old timey” music, Appalachian in origin, played on authentic instruments. I loved it, but then I wanted to lynch a Negro and impregnate my sister.
Have you heard Will the Circle Be Unbroken put together by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band? Old timey music done by legendary folks.

Brzezinski had been discussing the avalanche of sexual harassment allegations against powerful men in recent weeks on “Morning Joe” when she said that Halperin, a friend of hers, “is more than willing to meet with his accusers and apologize [to] them face–to-face.”
“I’ve actually tried to offer him to them,” Brzezinski said. “They don’t want to talk to him. They don’t want to talk to him.”
Emily Miller, who wrote on Twitter in October that Halperin had once “attacked” her, told CNN that she was “so upset” by the remarks that she was “shaking.”
“I can’t retraumatize myself to be in the same room with him to please Mika Brzezinski and her rich and famous friends,” Miller told CNN. “If Halperin genuinely wanted to apologize, he could send a letter or put it in public domain. Instead he has on the record denied my accusations which is extremely painful as a victim to be denied the truth. It is disgusting and unethical of Mika to use the power of her show to shame me, a sexual assault victim, into meeting with the man who did that to me.”
————
Miller said that Brzezinski had previously asked her to be a guest on her show with Halperin and that she had declined.
“She did invite me to go on the show with him so she could mediate and it had to be an exclusive,” Miller told CNN. “Basically she wants the ratings and Jerry Springer. And seemingly she now wants to help her rich powerful friend get back into power. He’s not going to change. Sexual predators like Mark Halperin cannot be rehabilitated. He should not be allowed to be alone around any women — much less his victims.”
I pretty much hate everyone involved in this case.
No shit.
Brzezinski? Sounds like more Russian meddling.
Pretty sure she is a pollock. If Mika only had one arm and was stuck in a tree she would fall if you waved at her.
I’m stunned Brzezinski thinks an apology is what’s needed, or that women who have accused a man of attacking them would want to meet with him. She’s a lot dumber than I realized.
Re Yemen. Obama’s wars are another example of how progs think. To them, if it doesn’t rise to the ‘Iraq mess’ in their minds, no matter how many wars you engage in, if there are ‘no boots on the ground with an actual invasion on TV’ it’s all to be dismissed. It doesn’t matter on the aggregate Libya, Egypt, Syria and Yemen pose equally a destructive mess because those are not ‘real wars’.
Weird, stupid people.
it is not a war it is just one of those things you know. those things just happen. If republicans start it, then it is a war
This is very much the reaction from my proggie friends and relatives. War is a political tool, nothing more. If there guy starts or continues one the reaction is meh. If an R does it he is evil. If I call the R evil and then call the Lightbringer evil it gets waves away.
They are indeed very eager to hand-wave away all of Obama’s war-mongering. I always like to point out to them that 1) there are in fact boots on the ground, 2) he just changed up the tactics by giving weapons to rebel groups and using more drone strikes, and 3) he didn’t have a 9/11-scale event happen during his presidency, so it’s really not a big credit to him that he “didn’t start another Iraq“.

The phrase ‘common good’ makes me want to stomp a kitten.

By ‘universal values’ (strangles puppy), she means Obama’s droning and killing Americans without due process, right?
From the moment the first pussy hat was knitted, it seems that all of Trump’s foes are part of his campaign staff.
When Lefties talk about “community” in reference to domestic politics, they usually just mean “communism”. I can’t help but think that maybe it has a similar meaning in an international setting.

Re: Goofus and Gallant:
Thanks to OMWC for reminding me of things from my childhood that I had purposely forgotten. Grrr….
Political analysis from the Deep State’s in-house newsletter
Looming in the background of all this is Trump’s deep unpopularity. Politico reports that Trump’s advisers have been directly warning him that he must get his approval numbers up among suburban voters after the big Democratic wins in Virginia and Alabama, which were fueled by strong turnout among nonwhites and Democratic base voters, and a shift away from Republicans among more educated suburban whites. It also bears mentioning that both of those outcomes suggested relatively lackluster turnout among the blue-collar and rural whites that make up the Trump/GOP base.
Why Trump did not make a serious effort on infrastructure early on has always been a puzzle. The promise of infrastructure spending — plus the vow to protect the safety net and unrig the tax code and economy for working-class whites from areas of the country left behind by globalization and abandoned by elites who rigged the economy on their own behalf — surely played some role in his victory. Instead, Trump spent the last year fully embracing orthodox Ryanism, with the failed effort to roll back health coverage for millions of Trump voters, and the successful drive for tax cuts overwhelmingly tilted toward the top, while doubling down on racism (after Charlottesville), xenophobia (stepped up deportations, ending protections for the “dreamers”) and misogyny (fully endorsing Roy Moore). That has produced the combination of energized nonwhites and alienated suburban whites that now has Republicans so terrified about next year.
It’s just a matter of time until Trump is run out of town on a rail; then, things will get back to normal. That one total outlier of an election in Alabama is indisputable proof that the Demos will sweep the mid term elections.
God, these people have no originality. Racism (what racism?), xenophobia (protecting our borders is just evil, apparently), and misogyny (accusations of things from half a century ago by someone who admitted to forging her evidence is totes believable)! Can’t they come up with some new attacks?
Trump’s advisers have been directly warning him that he must get his approval numbers up
Hat and The Hair! Hat and The Hair!
Hold the fucking phone. The eleventy trillion Obama spent on infrastructure wasn’t enough? We should be commuting on elevated skyways of chiseled alabaster by now.
Trump just needs to prog harder.

Who could possibly have guessed plastic fittings subjected to heat and chemicals over time might become brittle?
I missed this story this week:
Homeschooling, Higher Ed Provisions Force Last-Minute Tax Reform Re-Do
Notable quote from the article:
Sign this guy up.
Anyone involved with one of the homeschool organizations is likely to be very aware of the government’s tendency to creep it’s control into everything, given that they’ll have been fighting the government at every turn for however long they’ve been with their organization. Not surprised that this guy understands that better than Cruz.
I didn’t know that was removed. I was all for it due to my affinity for any person/family to be able to keep more of their money from the grubbing hands of gubmint, but that dude makes a good point.

Why kids love ‘fascist’ cartoons like ‘Paw Patrol’ and ‘Thomas’
http://edition.cnn.com/2017/12/22/health/thomas-tank-engine-paw-patrol-fascist-cartoon-strauss/index.html
“Thomas,” the long-running television franchise about a group of working trains chugging away on the Island of Sodor, has been called a “premodern corporate-totalitarian dystopia” in the New Yorker, imperialist and sinister in Slate, and classist, sexist and anti-environmentalist in the Guardian. And yet people — presumably parents — spend $1 billion on “Thomas” merchandise every year.
wow all the good source say so
We want our children to inhabit a world in which identities are both mutable and equal, and imagination and empathy reign supreme! – who is this we?
young children, as dictated by their tastes in popular culture, have something else in mind. They’re drawn to worlds in which identities are fixed, order trumps imagination and transgressions are met with routine punishment. – fuckin fashy kids

I think I need a Mossberg 590 shockwave. Do any of y’all have one? I’m not particularly interested in the mini-shells so I’m trying to decide if it would be better to go 12 gauge or 20 gauge? If any of you have shot one how bad is the recoil with 2 3/4″ buckshot? I’m a big guy and not recoil adverse at all, but if it’s too hard to control well, maybe stepping down to the 20 is a good idea. Any thoughts?
That all depends on what the gun’s primary use will be. Hunting? Home defense? Shooting clays?
https://www.mossberg.com/product/590-shockwave-6-shot-50659/
This little guy is only for hunting 2 legged critters and/or zombies.
Yikes. Get the full stock. Pistol grip shotguns are awful. I have really strong hands and I find them very unpleasant and difficult to shoot accurately.
Get the full stock.
allegedly the “bird’s head” grip does a much better job of controlling felt recoil than a pistol grip because it allows for a more neutral wrist angle. Most of the reviews say the recoil really isn’t that bad and is much much milder than a traditional pistol grip, but we all know that gun reviews are mostly full of shit.
With the full stock you can still shoot it with your hands. With the birds head you cant put the stock on your shoulder and take a fine bead.
Oh I totally agree, this is just a gun for a different niche. This is for clearing my house and navigating tight corners. It’s also for sticking in a scabbard attached to a bug out bag for the zombie apocalypse. (ok ok really it’s mainly for a super fun and loud toy).
I’ve already got a Remington 1100 12 gauge, a Benelli Nova tactical 12 gauge, and a Mossberg 500 20 gauge. So I’ve got the full size shotgun angle covered. But a man can never have too many guns.
“…a man can never have too many guns. ”
Aint that the truth.
I’m with Suthen on this – the full stock can also be tucked against your body when you have to take your forward hand off to, e.g. open a door. Any pistol grip will mean the gun is wobbling with all the weight forward of your grip and, gawd help you if you have to squeeze one off with that forward hand not yet back on the foregrip.
While that’s not actually a bird’s head. The purpose of a bird’s head is to mitigate recoil from a single-action revolver by allowing the barrel to flip upwards. Which doesn’t apply here.
I have one. Well, had one. I gave it to my brother. Recoil in the 12 is more tolerable than in the Remington 870. I can tell you this, that 590 with a full choke had the tightest pattern I have ever seen in a shotgun. We had to change the choke out because it tore the hell out of ducks. You couldn’t get far enough away from them to keep from chewing them all to pieces.
With number 4 buckshot at 30 yards it made an 18inch pattern. Pretty badass.

Obama’s legacy is getting us into a record number of pointless wars. I dont hear much about this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObN0sZ9GYQA
Tin foil hat territory or just something no one wants to talk about?
While I don’t know much about it, wouldn’t the radiation kill whoever was holding the camera or talking in the background?
Probably, yes. If it was a neutron bomb it would have killed quite a few but it would have taken quite a while for them all to die. It sure looks like one to me.
All the “progressives” know about Obama is that he has a Nobel Peace Prize and he “ended the War in Iraq”.
And in their best faux-tuff-gai “he killed bin Laden”.
That looks to me like a secondary explosion of an ammo cache.
In one of the videos, you can see a massive fire already in place when the big explosion kicks off.
There is no white flash of primary radiation from a massive nuclear reaction. Rather it’s all light from the fireball.
That’s what I see, anyway.
Maybe. I think the explanation was that it was a subterranean blast to collapse a tunnel complex. Who knows with the lying scum that got us into that shithole?
The US designed enhanced weapons that Carter cancelled were about 12kT devices, designed for battlefield use. There’s a practical lower limit on yields, and really, that one looked pretty small. Everyone concentrates on the apparent internal temperature of a detonation and the ‘mushroom cloud’, but really, neither of these characteristics are dispositive. What I also see is a prolonged period of ongoing fire in the updraft., but what I don’t see from that footage is evidence of the overpressure you’d expect from a detonation.
What I *also* see in the second shot from a different angle is tiny secondaries, which makes me think that ammo is simply being cooked off. If that had been a nuclear device, there would have been nothing bigger than radioactive ash on the blast-front of that cloud. Also, from what I remember from a CBN course I took, most of the locals in that town will have had enough of a dose that some of them will have needed some medical treatment within a day or so.
So my analysis would be (1) there’s no reason to suggest this was a tactical nuclear device, and (2) no reason to suggest this was an enhanced radiation (neutron) device and lastly (3) – if I’m right and those were ammo rounds cooking of, then there was a ammo cache up there (a good place to have an ammo dump) and there’d be no reason to do anything other than hit it with something substantial – and conventional – to eliminate the depot.
Why would we nuke a mountainside in Yemen with a bomb designed to kill people and minimize material damage? We’re going to nuclear first strike insurgents in fucking Yemen?

Excellent.. I will be sure to record all of these apocalyptic predictions (along with the theories about the end of the Internet due to Ajit Pai’s decision) and throw them back in the prog’s faces in a year, when everything is still the same or better.
My last post on Facebook before leaving it was last December. In response to the wailing, gnashing of teeth, and overall doomsaying, I said, “I’m betting that a year from now, nothing substantive will have changed, either in your life or in the country. Some symbolic things here and there, but nothing actual.” The caterwauling was epic and sealed my decision to never go there again.
Of course, I was right.
These predictions were fun.
Someone commented “fuck off vlad farageski” on that just now, as soon as I posted it.
That’s hilarious, thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it. One of our number linked to it during the Brexit thing, and it’s been sitting unappreciated in my download folder since.

Time to play, what’s your digit ratio! I’ve been looking into this and apparently digit ratio is correlated with all sorts of interesting stuff. (Remember: correlation =/= causation) But it could be fun either way.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digit_ratio
Take the length of your index finger on your dominant hand then divide it by the length of your ring finger. Mine’s .936 (whatever that means). I’m gonna have to do some more digging in primary sources to figure out what this all means.
It looks like the ring finger on my right hand is a little bit longer, and the index finger on my left hand is a little bit longer. But the difference is very tiny.
Take the length of your index finger on your dominant hand then divide it by the length of your ring finger
I was told there would not be math.
0.935!
The proposition is that the lower a ratio is, the greater the exposure of the individual to androgens during fetal development, os simplistically, there are ceryain groups who like this measure to demonstrate masculinity.

She has *fantastic* NSFW pics floating around. I trust you can find them.
Let it Bleed is the best record the Stones ever recorded.
You misspelled Sticky Fingers.
Yeah, I woul say Beggers Banquet, Let it Bleed, and Sticky Fingers on after another was the sweet spot ’68-’71.
Absolutely, although they were also on a roll album-wise in ’66-’67. “Let It Bleed” is still their best, but “Between the Buttons” is a gem.
Well, someone’s fucking up the stats. Including drug overdoses seems politically-motivated to me.
One would think with all the caterwauling they’ve done about overpopulation over the decades that this would be good news for them.
We’re going to outstrip Mother Gaias capacity to sustain us and we’re all going to die. But we have to pass every statist law in the off chance it may save one life.
I love how when I went to buy bagels from the (((deli))) in my neighborhood, they were also selling Christmas cookies.
All this appropriation! I can’t even…
Couple shots of Turkey and nearing a dozen beers. I got your answers.
Do the Trump Tax Cuts kill more people than the End of Net Neutrality?
/prog
I woke up at 4 am as per usual day (which pissed me off) and cracked a beer before the coffee was done. I will match you answers with more ignorance and most likely irrelevant points.
On a side note, the best thing about christmas is that it is in the winter so one can keep the beer on the porch which makes room for the s&p seasoned prime rib to air rest in the fridge.
Damn. I feel less unsober.
Speaking of brown spirits, I met a lady last night who was part of an entourage escorting Hunter S. Thompson to and from an interview in 1979.
Does this make me look fat?
No hat tip for the jpost link? Jeez OMWC. I thought (((we))) stick together.
You think (((HE))) doesn’t read the J Post?!
What are you talking about? There’s a h/t there.

Oy, these (((euphemisms))))!
Better be careful. SP might withhold Christmas cookies from bad boys. Oh wait, she married you. Never mind.
Hysterical terrified bleating is our stock in trade
If this is America, where the Great Leader wants you to believe that 2+2=5, and would usher you down his rabbit hole, and struggles to find in himself unequivocal condemnation of neo-Nazis, and you recall perhaps the words of Hannah Arendt, “The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the dedicated Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction (i.e. the reality of experience) and the distinction between true and false (i.e. the standards of thought) no longer exist” — if all this you have lived and felt and thought across this beautiful and spacious land, then you must be prepared to “watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools.”
If this is America, and you know where militarism and nationalism and disdain for intellectuals and artists, and the cultivation of enemies and scapegoats, and contempt for a free press can lead, and it pains you to see the world voting against the United States at the United Nations with the exception of Micronesia and Nauru and Palau (and a few others), then you will see that this, Trump’s American travesty, is in fact a lie and an affront and a betrayal.
An insane asylum, with typewriters.
Sounds fair and balanced to me.
I’m pretty sure the contempt is for the press that gives more favorable coverage to one political party and was actually caught colluding with that party behind the scenes.
It’s actually the Lefties who have disdain for small, independent news sources and insist that the only reliable media outlets are the giant corporations like MSNBC and NYT as well as state-funded outlets like NPR and BBC. After all, it was Diane Feinstein who wanted to make some distinction between “real journalists” and everyone else.
It is really sad. They have taken a giant shit on their credibility, shot it and set it on fire. If they reported that the sky is blue I would have to look out the window to check. Look, if you dont like being called a liar stop telling lies.
Now that their credibility is gone, it’s never coming back. The alphabet soup networks, NYT, WaPo et. al. will never again be trusted by large swaths of the population. They will have to be replaced (and largely already have been online) by other sources if journalism is ever going to be considered respectable again. If you had a wife that cheated once and tearfully apologized, maybe you’d trust her. If you had a wife that had fucked everyone in her office, promised not to do it again, then next week fucked everyone at the gym, do you think you’d ever trust her again?
“She was unfaithful to me once, you know …”
“That’s terrible, who with?”
“The 4th Infantry Division”
Fucking Ivymen.
Ask Winston’s dad?

You would at least ask that Bitch where your money was.
Free speech doesnt mean you wont get called out on your bullshit.
The fact remains that the Knesset and the other Israeli government structures are in Jerusalem.
Fool. Cohen is a foolish fool.
A disdain for “intellectuals” and artists? To the fainting couch!
Yeah that struck me too. Top Fucking Men are being disrespected.
I’m left wondering what exactly the qualifications are for being an intellectual.
Also, why are the opinions of artists relevant to political issues? Why are they more relevant than the opinions of, say, the plumber, the grocery store clerk, or the garbage man?
2+2=5?
I had no idea common core was from the Trump Administration.
I have heard the Chinese are more or less the Jews of Malaysia.
Heh, that’s one way of putting it.

I seem to have bungled my close tab, but the link appears to be good.
“Charlie Kirk, the 24-year-old founder and executive director of Turning Point USA, is seen as a rising star of the right. He bristled at the suggestion his line-up of speakers was weighted to deliver a strongly pro-Trump message.
“It’s actually a very diverse group, racially diverse, ethnically diverse and philosophically diverse,” he told the Guardian, shortly before taking to the stage with Trump Jr.
“One of these dishonest reporters I was talking to a couple of weeks ago said, ‘Hey Charlie, it seems your speaker line-up is all people who love Trump and work for Fox News.’ I said, ‘That’s one of the most intellectually dishonest statements I’ve ever seen.
“We have Austin Petersen, who ran for president under the Libertarian party, who is a total Never Trumper. We have Ben Shapiro, who is like the leading Never Trump voice, we have libertarian speakers such as Dave Rubin.
“We want big names, people that draw attention, and you know what? There’s going to be a lot of contradictory statements. We’re cool with that. There’s going to be Alex Epstein in a shirt that says ‘I love fossil fuels’ and we’re going to have speakers talking about how conservatives should better embrace the idea of climate change. It shows that we as Turning Point we embrace conservatives, libertarians, people in the middle.””

I loved “Thomas”, at least the early years, when they were still mainly adapting the Rev. Awdry’s stories. I loved watching the trains move, there were good moral lessons about integrity and hard work that they didn’t quite bash you over the head with, Ringo Starr has one of the best voices for narration, and there was a surprising amount of violence for a kids’ show (look at Henry after his accident with the Flying Kipper and imagine that’s an organic being). As an adult I appreciate the insane amount of time and effort that went into making the trains and sets, which I don’t think you’ll ever see again.
Little did I know that I was being primed to fly a Nazi flag atop my orphan-staffed factory.
Did the Flying Kipper take its broken wings and learn to fly again?
“Little did I know that I was being primed to fly a Nazi flag atop my orphan-staffed factory.”
The Pinnacle of life.
The show was much, much better with the real train models rather than the computer animation. They also didn’t introduce 5 new characters every month back then to goose merchandise sales.
Henry getting bricked up in the tunnel, Cask of Amontillado style, though, that was some dark shit.
My mother used to tell me that was how naughty kids were punished, and then proceeded to show me the picture in the book.
Yes. Books. I think that by the time I’d stopped appreciating them, there had been about 30 published.
Allright peeps, wish me luck. I’m off to brave the crowds for a couple last minute things and some supplies.
Have a great day!
Take extra food and water.
DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!! YOU ARE NOT THE BOSS OF ME!!!

Oh… thanks, you too.
Make sure to stop by the bar and have a couple brewskis.
Dude–phrasing. Wear a condom.
I have only wife’s stocking stuffers left to get. Should only take 4 hours when you include driving around in search for a parking space.
Uber?
It’s happening!
http://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/1911-information/
Most of them will probably be blown-out old WW2 wrecks like the one I was issued as a company aidman in the early 80s. That damn thing, if you shook it, you could hear the slide rattle on the frame.
Sweet. Does the army still have 1911’s?
None that you want to shoot.
Depending on price, might be fun to get as a project gun. No shortage of parts for 1911s. I’ve had to do some small easy repairs on my officers special which only required a little filing but it would be fun to have something to practice more difficult repairs on.
That I can get behind. One with a tight slide to frame might be a bit of a unicorn, though. Its not like when they released the M-1 carbines. The 1911s got used, a lot.
The only units that use 1911’s are the units where the personnel have the freedom to use their own guns. SOCOM are issued with Glocks, I think, that usually sit unboxed on the shelf in the armory while the personnel use their own SIGs, 1911’s etc. Needless to say, the 1911’s on offer will not be the 1911’s these guys shoot. These are the guns that were taken offline when the M9 was issued.
Expect to see CMP M9’s (probably in even worse repair than the 1911’s) within a few years, assuming SIG get their shit together and start producing P320s in quantity, to spec, a challenge that – according to some industry-insider intel – SIG is finding hard to surmount.
It’s just like that time You-Know-Who invaded Poland
To President Trump and congressional Republicans, the overhaul of the tax code that became law on Friday will make the United States a better place to do business. To the rest of the world, it has the potential to challenge the global economic order, creating an uneven playing field and setting off a race among countries to cut corporate taxes.
The overhaul is already threatening economic relations, adding to concerns that Mr. Trump is advancing a nationalistic agenda at the expense of other countries.
Rule of thumb: if Trump was involved, it’s bad.
“The overhaul is already threatening economic relations, adding to concerns that Mr. Trump is advancing a nationalistic agenda at the expense of other countries.”
*Starts up international shipments of butthurt lotion, profits!*
I would like to invest in your butthurt lotion consortium.
“To the rest of the world, it has the potential to challenge the global economic order, creating an uneven playing field and setting off a race among countries to cut corporate taxes.”
You mean he’s governing as if the policies of the US should primarily benefit the US and not a constellation of foreign nations? What sorcery is this??!?!
“setting off a race among countries to cut corporate taxes.”
The horror! Governments might have to tax people directly instead of indirectly through the goods and services they buy which would add transparency to how much they’re being taxed and might piss them off. Doing worry prog, there’s still always the ability to print money and achieve similar results. Worked great in Zimbabwe.
We all know that the US is very indirect in how they tax citizens. There are a million special little taxes that only apply to certain industries, so people think it’s a tax on a big corporate fatcat’s dividends or something rather than an additional cost that is factored into the price of products that they buy.
I’m curious as to whether this is the case in other countries.
It really does puzzle them that most Americans are not, in fact, internationalists like they are.
setting off a race among countries to cut corporate tax
WHOO HOO!
I’m failing to see the problem with this. Can we set off a similar race with every other kind of tax?
Didn’t this law just cut US corporate taxes to about the level other countries had theirs at?
Yes.
Every Scandinavian country has their corporate tax rates in the lower 20s… Gee, it’s almost like the “progressive” Scandinavia fetishism is really just cherry-picking the policies that they like and crediting them with all of Scandinavia’s success.
Anyone know of a trustworthy source that compares total taxes by country? Everything I find seems to me to be wildly understating the US tax burden.
Sample. I would *love* to have a tax burden they claim is average in the US.
“While Cenk Uygur panders to the progressive movement, many of his loyal viewers are unaware that the Young Turks host has an extremely dark past built on sexism, racism and disdain for rape victims. For this reason, the Gateway Pundit has created a guide to some of the more disturbing and hypocritical views held by the liberal darling.”

Shocking.
Well, I’ve got pizza dough proofing for dinner tonight and some molasses cookie dough chilling in the fridge. Now I need to measure my wheat beer to make sure it’s ready to go, and I’ll be more productive by 2pm today than I’ve been in the last 2 weeks combined!
Awesome. What toppings are going on the pizza?
I know that the majority of people will be disgusted by this, but one of my favorite combinations is anchovies, black olives, and capers. They call that “a la puttanesca”.
Pineapple.
But what’s the depth of the dish in which the pizza will be baked?
We’re doing onion, mushroom, proscuitto
PSA (not *the* PSA) for the gunnies who don’t reload brass.
For those who like Federal Ammo’s “American Eagle” cheapy ball ammo for plinking, there are still a few days to go on a 25% Rebate.
In my case, 1000 rounds of 9mm 115 grain, for 210 incl shipping (less if you’re not paying CT Sales Tax, with a 25% rebate, isn’t bad. By the looks of it, y’all will have a local supplier who can do the same kind of deal.
If you don’t have a local supplier, comment and I’ll put the link to mine, whose prices are good if you don’t mind too much about their lax shipping. They ship for free on case-size purchases.
If a delivery delay of a few days doesn’t faze you, they’re fine.
Aspiration is not dead
One man is building a house so enormous, and so absurdly lavish, that it may be the ultimate symbol of our age of thirst, excess and inequality. Asking price? $500 million.
Certainly an interesting character, and the story is surprisingly free of snooty disdain and snobbery.
Mr. Niami was raised by a single mother in a 1,100-square-foot home in Los Angeles. Doug Witkins, who was Mr. Niami’s Big Brother mentor in the early 1980s, said, “He struck me as the best salesman I’d ever met in my life, at age 11.”
While still in high school, Mr. Niami took night classes to get his cosmetology license, then learned how to do special-effects prosthetics for horror films. At 19, he went to work with Mr. Witkins, selling international movie rights at his film distribution company.
I have seen other articles about this house. It’s crazy, but so what?
It’ll demonstrate that ‘tax cuts for the rich’ creates work opportunities for Joe Sixpack.
