STEVE SMITH SEE YEAR ALMOST OVER. COUNTING UP RAPE CATEGORIES TO CLOSE OUT YEAR END PAPERWORK. SEE IT WAS GREAT YEAR FOR HIKER AND CAMPER RAPE. SLIGHTLY LESS FOR PARK RANGER AND LOST DRIVERS. HAD TO WRITE OFF THE STEPHEN SMYTHE PROJECT.
SO, OVERALL YEAR WAS GOOD. STEVE SMITH GO CELEBRATE IN RV PARK. BY CELEBRATE, MEAN RAPE EVERYONE. BUT BEFORE STEVE SMITH GO, HE GIVE FUNNY GLIBERTARIAN PEOPLE SOME LINKS TO ENJOY:
- STEVE SMITH NOT SURE ALL DEFINITIONS OF “SLAVERY” RIGHT ONES… “violate their dignity” STEVE SMITH VIOLATE MANY, BUT THAT NOT MAKE THEM HIS SLAVES!
- “HELLHOLE” STEVE SMITH CAN MAKE ANY HOLE… WELL, LET FUNNY GLIBERTARIAN PEOPLE FINISH JOKE.
- STEVE SMITH FIND LINK THAT HONOR FLORIDA GLIBS! STEVE SMITH THINK FLORIDA FUNNY – MAYBE GO VISIT SOON.
- STEVE SMITH CONFUSED…THOUGHT WRESTLING WAS “MASS BRAWL“? OH, WRONG KIND WRESTLING.
STEVE SMITH NOT SURE ALL DEFINITIONS OF “SLAVERY” RIGHT ONES… “violate their dignity” STEVE SMITH VIOLATE MANY, BUT THAT NOT MAKE THEM HIS SLAVES!
It all depends on how you define the word “slavery”.
According to SJWs, it’s the act of straight white men existing.
“He bit me, but no problem, it might be his tactic to stop me from performing well,”
A return of pankration?
Hmm, STEVE SMITH or WARTY – rape or dungeon-slave (with consideration to the first link)?
After further consideration, WARTY hits all the links except for Florida.
Brissa Dominguez went for a very early morning stroll through a Florida hotel. The only problem was, she wasn’t wearing any clothes and wasn’t a guest at the hotel.
It sad this is illegal.
Urgh. “It sad” should be “It is sad”.
We can overlook some grammar typos, what is inexcusable is your use of that avatar and refusal to litter your comments with ‘I say’ and ‘that boy/dog is..’ phrases.
I say, I say, that boy doesn’t get the joke.
STEVE SMITH TAKING LAST TWO DAYS OF YEAR OFF?
Stephen Smythe. That cracked me up.
STEVE SMITH CAN MAKE ANY HOLE…
Wider?
Ran out of beer.
Send help.
I have… a bottle opener.
I have a nice selection in my fridge. Stop on over!
I would love that.
‘Course, The temperature here is 5 degrees Fahrenheit, and supposed to get down to -1.
I would never let that stop me from drinking.
It is a balmy 14 here. 😛

Meanwhile, disturbing reports suggest Laura has resorted to bribing inmates with food sent by her family to stop them from beating up and robbing her because “she is foreign”.
Why “disturbing”? I would’ve gone with “intriguing” or “hilarious”.
I would have assumed it was rape, not having read the article.
Guess STEVE SMITH has never been to Egypt.
I think it’s disturbing that prisons are rape cages.
To ever stop it youd have to isolate the prisoners from each other and from all of the guards.
Why not just exile? You don’t have to go anywhere in particular, you just can’t stay here.
I don’t want to inflict our repeat murders on the rest of the world.
Prisons aren’t all weed smokers and tax dodgers you know.
I’d say repeat murderers are the kind of people I’d say I’m fine with the death penalty for. I wouldn’t exile pot smokers, as they aren’t really criminals. But I think exile can be just in a lot of cases. You can reform or not, the choice is yours, but the next place might not be so lenient…
Yeah, there’s prostitutes, pimps, meth users, cokeheads, heroin users, rainwater collectors, and a while bunch of other people that if it weren’t for things being illegal, they would not have harmed anyone but themselves.
There are times I become more comfortable with the concept of the Outlaw (as in someone who truly exists outside the law) or Coventry (a lawless land outside society).

Dostoyevsky agrees.
Shockingly, “Visit Egypt” has never made an appearance on my bucket list.
OK, I think I’ve spotted the first error she made here.
Whatcha wanna bet Omar planned on selling those drugs?
I have a hard time feeling sorry for that girl. Egypt is a hellhole full of savages who cant wait to sink their teeth into someone like her. She tried to smuggle drugs into that place? She did it to herself.
I went to Egypt just before it got bad. My tour guide was an MA Egyptologist who had been married to a minor Saudi royal. She was a single mom who did great on her share of $45/day. I hope she made it okay. My driver was a Coptic Christian. I’vE thought about those two a lot in the last 5 years. I hope they are still well.
I had aspirations of being an Egyptologist and was in the middle of applying to grad schools and ironing out my thesis topics when things went straight to shit. I sat there watching the news and putting all my applications and research material into a box in the attic.
Thought the Swatting story earlier would have gotten a little more play here – either way…nauseating.

And people wonder why I’m anti social. That might be nut punch of the year.
It’s up there.
It’s more of a reminder of just how far away from free we really are.
It’s the fault of the people calling in, and no blame should fall on the ‘profession’ that has made it possible to do such things.
“Due to the actions of a prankster…”
Is that referring to the SWAT team?
I’m not sure if I was clear, I’m criticizing police as a ‘profession’, since the only reason people do ‘swating’ is because they know it will get an disproportionate response.
You were perfectly clear. I agree. Those jolly “pranksters” will get home safe at any cost. Disgusting.
“Oh you merry prankster! Always so quick to shoot off a joke.”
I’ve heard Mundane Matt talk a little about his experiences before, but this time he really puts a lot more info out: https://youtu.be/_RKoBxuqY4k
“The ultimately guilty party is the person who made the call…”
Matt is wrong on that. The caller is absolutely deserving of harsh punishment, but Matt is crazy if he thinks the SWAT member who shot the guy is less guilty. Matt is basically equating the cops with contract killers.
Contact killers sometimes face justice.
Yeah, I like how the cops know who did it, and that the shooting was unjustifiable, but no one is in prison.
Also, they’re not releasing the name of the killer yet. (Last I heard)
Hey, he reached for his waistband so good shoot.
Hey, he
reached for his waistbandwasn’t a cop, so good shoot.FIFY
When our soldiers in war zones have stronger rules of engagement than cops do, you’d think more of the cop-suckers would wake up.

Her “extremely careless” file holder is bulging.
‘This appears to be the result of an illegal act in which a fully cleared intelligence officer stole information and gave it to a website. The person responsible will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,’
Wait a sec… someone improperly handling classified documents would actually be prosecuted? Get out of here!
The peasants are certainly prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, especially when they inconvenience the nobility.
Does that crime family that was on the inside with half the Democrats in Congress fit in here somewhere? It’s such a tangled web of corruption, it’s hard to keep track of it all – especially with the lack of attention.
Saw some more notes on Twitter about that scam this wek – but can’t remember the details. Really want to see some folks going down for this BS.
HRC email is a textbook case of “Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi”. It is Latin for “What is permissible for Jove is not permissible for a bull”. … The phrase is often translated as “Gods may do what cattle may not”.
It’s not Hillary’s fault that intelligence officer decided to leak things when he/she didn’t have any political influence to avoid any real scrutiny during the subsequent investigation.
On a more upbeat note – for me – after reading some comments on Amazon, I stopped by the gamestop near my gym while picking up some cleaning. Random thought – figured I’d ask – turns out they had a handful of SNES Classic units behind the counter for the list price of $80. Very sweet – this weekend is definitely looking up.
Stupid question… what is the appeal of that when you can play all the classic games on the modern consoles? Though admittedly you have to buy them separately… I guess if you don’t want to play any new games…?
Welllllll….the last new console I bought was a 3DS (and never play it – maybe should go ahead and sell it). Before that I got my Xbox 360. So..none of the games on this console are included – and I’d rather play with a classic controller than on my laptop (5 year old laptop) keyboard emulator – esp on a 60 inch HD screen. (finally a Nintendo console that uses HDMI).
I haven’t played most of these for at least 20 years and some games I only ever read about in Nintendo Power – only ever played SNES when I borrowed a friend’s machine or played at their houses. (or my SNES9X emulators later – but some games never worked).
Sooo I’m looking forward to: (again)
Donkey Kong Country
Earthbound
F-Zero
Mega Man X
Secret of Mana
Star Fox
Super Mario RPG (one I have played quite a bit on my laptop)
Super Metroid
Zelda: Link to the Past
etc.
A little disappointing that Final Fantasy 3 is the only one from the series included (I’m more familiar with 6) – and no Chrono Trigger or Evermore included either – although I do have CT on my 3DS.
Plus – being an all-in-one – I can take it with me when I travel for Reserve stuff, etc and just plug it into any TV (no network/wifi required).
Fair enough. I have a Wii U so I bought some of these extra.
I love the DK Country games. And of course anything Zelda or Metroid. And Super Mario World and Yoshi’s Island….
The rest are a complete mystery to me.
I feel for you like you are one of those starving kids in Africa.
I’m going to go on tv to ask sponsors to send you a rom of Earthbound, which is the best game ever made. It is also one of the best works of art ever made.
Shigesato Itoi is a genius with the hottest and coolest wife.
Is Earthbound any good? :/
Just program a raspberry pi.
I play NHL 2014 over and over again. XCom and XCom II And Rome TW II being my only new purchases. Sometimes playing a good game remade is best.
Very nice. I was looking more for the NES classic, and still can’t believe Nintendo shit the bed with two straight hardware releases.
Yeah, I think they’re going to re-release that one….but who knows.
I saw news about that as well, but if it’s going to be that difficult to find again, I’m not sure it’s worth it. I did see rumors this month regarding a retro Dreamcast console which I would jump at.
I’d do that in a second too. I did buy Jet Grind Radio on Xbox Live but haven’t played it much – xbox controller doesn’t handle that version as well as JSRF, etc. There were a few other exclusives that need to be re-released.
Wikipedia says mid-2018.
‘Sup, bitches?
Been busy as hell the last few days, but managed to watch Team USA come back and beat Canada in a shootout this afternoon. Sweet!
Who’s outside playing soccer in this weather? You gotta be nuts.
I heard it was snowing quite a bit. Didn’t slow my commute too much, though theres always one guy going 45 in the left lane on the highway for no goddamn reason.
Snowed like crazy for awhile. Really slows the game down. Not a fan of the outdoor games.
We won, and on top of that Canada LOST, so I’m happy about it.
They could always just have the outdoor games somewhere warmer too.
Casey Mittelstadt is the real deal. Gophers will lose him early for sure.
Went to the bar (Route 47 in Fridley) and tried watching the Wild v Preds, U of M vs Army (I didn’t know Army had a hockey team), and US v Canada, as well as the Cotton Bowl. A bit much to process!
Back home now to watch the Hawks v Oilers. I love NHL.TV.

For those who think Atlas Shrugged was unrealistic…
Heh, good call – is there any clearer example of a Rand villain?
“his demand that the federal government provide billions of dollars in funding for a major tunnel project between New York and New Jersey.”
Someone wants to set up his retirement account.
Found this in a linked article:
I agree that this project is needed (the current tunnels are at capacity and damaged) but making the passengers pay for it? NOT FAIR!!1!1
Thats before costs go up by an order of magnitude.
I’m just surprised they weren’t going to make the highway tolls/general fund cover it right from the start.
No doubt. My support is conditional based on ending the politician and union corruption that makes this shit 5-10x more expensive than in Europe.
A tunnel? Aside from the graft and embezzlement opportunities, why do they need a tunnel? They are less than a mile apart and a bridge would be 1/100 the cost.
No shit he is a Rand villian, living and breathing. Of all of the slimy, crooked pieces of shit in DC, Schumer really is a stand-out.
Schumer is the one pol that engenders a visceral reaction whenever I see him. Like a little tug at my gag-reflex. Maxine Waters and Michelle Obama are cruising the Riviera on the same yacht.
Well, a bridge would require extensive eminent domain of very expensive land. But under a billion dollars for a bridge over the Hudson? Not a chance.
Get back from my beer run and house behind mine is on fire…

That’s not cool. Hopefully no one is hurt.

I tweeted a krugman joke at him.
“Soon you’ll need a wheelbarrow of Nobel Prices to buy a loaf of bread” after he tweeted the krugabe:BTC is evil story
Hat Tip to Holger for the line
Has Krugman ever predicted anything correctly? If remember correctly, he predicted the Internet was just fad. LOL. What joke of a man.
Yeah, krugabe is a joke, which is why I borrowed the line, thought it would give him a laugh. Maybe he saw that I was following Sargon and Gavin and decided I was the wrong sort of libertarian. You and Nap are correct, btw, his TDS is pretty bad, which is disappointing given his past work.
Indonesia currency matters. IIRC that’s what his Nobel was for. The Kaufman who writes the column has no relation to the man who did the very painstaking research on Asian currency in the early 90s
I’ll take you up on that, as soon as I get of work (twatter being banned here)
He blocked me months ago. Delicate I guess. *shrug*
I guess so? Shite. Whadidya do?
I disagreed with something, afaik that’s all it was. I wasn’t even sarcastic, at least not to him. He might have seen something else I tweeted maybe.

Got a growler of Allagash Tripel .
Fade to Black by Lefthand (<—imagine a link there) and some Killians for everyday drinking.
Do you happen to know which Fade to Black it is? Some of them I’ve really liked, others have been mediocre.
The foreign stout. Haven’t cracked it open yet so I couldn’t say if it’s good or not. I’ll try to let you know after new years.
Allagash Tripel is great.
Yup. Reminds me of Chimay blue but for half the price.
hmmm, that’s a good recommendation. I’ll go digging. I haven’t had as much luck with flavorful domestic Belgians – vs. the traditional imports.
This for my Lord, Heroic Mulatto.

My brother was ogling something like that once and I said “That’s not going to age well.”
He said “I dont care what she looks like in five minutes, I wanna fuck her now.”
I went to ft Benning to meet my little brother when he got out of bootcamp. We went out drinking that night and there was bartender who was being sweet on him. She was a 200+ pound black woman in her mid thirties. He was bound and determined to go home with her. I managed to talk him out of it.
I believe Beerfest covered this perfectly.
“Come on! I knew the whole time.”
Here it is. Looking good, you handsome motherfucker!
Oh, so black women are too good for your pure bloodline!? RACIST
Yeah, that was definitely the problem. It wasn’t the huge gut or her not pleasant demeanor. It was definitely the blackness. yes siree.
Fat ugly women need loving too, and I’ve heard *clears throat* that they are very appreciative, and willing to show their appreciation in creative and mind blowing ways.
Oh, so now you’ve got a problem with a sista’s curves! And YOU try being pleasant when the white man is oppressing you all the time!
(My god, it is so easy to ape the woke crowd)
I’ve spend all day watching furikake videos on the Internet.
Fuck that. *Pours soy sauce on white rice*
Surprisingly, I’ve found that not to be taboo in Thailand. They’ll even put Maggi on it.
Maggi, after a quick google, sounds like it’s made of the same stuff as furikake without the fish.
It’s basically just liquid MSG.
Every one I know who lives in Thailand loves Maggi on rice. Maggi was big in PNG too. I must say I am not opposed to Maggi on rice and it is tasty. It tastes like Braggs Liquid Amino’s to me which is also good and something some of the Paleo books I have read recommend as a soy replacement which never made sense to me since it is made from soy.
or everyone
Cook rice in salty chicken stock with butter and basil and you dont haver to put anything on it. get fancy and put finely chopped chicken in it. fancier, add coriander, bell pepper and onion.
Interesting. You can go a couple different ways with rice. I think they go with simple white rice as appreciation for the farmer who diligently worked to produce a high quality product. We tend to add spices and other things to it in order to make it even tastier. I’m fine either way, though my preference is for the simple version.
I’ve recently learned that I’m weird for doing this.
She is adorable.. Have an engineer at work is originally from Taiwan, and she reminds of the girl in the video, but she speaks better English than I do.
So furikake does or doesn’t involve chicks with dicks
I personally would’ve assumed it was a mixture of Furrys And bukkake.
*Spits coffee, stands to applaud*
Hmmm… that perhaps explains the Doraemon furikake packages I’ve seen at the store.
*suspiciously eyes Furikake jars on my shelf purchased after recommendations on this site.

The Holodeck would be the last thing humanity ever invented.
Right!!! I said Deviant, but meant Defiant, but in this context still works.
I took wife and boy to the doctor today. Both tested positive for flu. They are sick as hell and have been for 2 days. I’ve been good so far, but I’m starting to feel like crap. Fuck. I have to work tomorrow. Like really have to. Tomorrow is going to be hell if I come down with the flu.
My condolences, Lach. I got the flu last year and it sucked bigly. I can’t imagine workin a steel mill with it. (Although I imagine it’d help you sweat it out.)
Hopefully. Thanks rick.
Ouch that sucks. I haven’t had it in years knock on wood but it put me in bed for like 3 days.
I have never had it. I’m not gonna start an thread about vaccines or anything, but I have never had a flu shot. My wife and boy both had one. That doesn’t mean anything, but there it is.
I can’t recall if I’ve ever had one. Certainly not in the last couple decades. My workplace even recommends the shot is for (I think) pregnant women and (definitely) old people first. They don’t recommend it for healthy, younger men. I just googled it and this is NOT what the CDC recommends – surprise!
I had not had one til last year, my workplace offers free vacs for full time employees, but I demurred as always. Turns out I had the flu that the vaccine didn’t protect against anyway.
Also I had been working 60’s and giving 1.5 hr presentations twice a day every two days, might have contributed to it.
My wife works in a nursing home, so it’s required for her to get one. My boys school recommends one since he’s only 5. That makes sense.
The CDC is a political body so I take everything they say with a dump truck full of salt.
The local TV news’ fear-mongering over the flu is nauseating.
The problem with the flu vaccine is that the CDC needs to decide months in advance which few flue strains to put in the annual mix so there is time to produce the required quantities. Most years they do okay, but they can decide to skip the strain that gets you or get their predictions wrong.
I have a visceral fear of needles, going back to when I was much younger. So I’ve avoided the flu shot as well (although it has kept me from getting regrettable tattoos when I was younger), and the worst I get is usually a cold once a year. About every five years I may catch something that’s flu-like, but that’s it.
Freakish immune systems have their advantages.
I rarely get sick. I also drank creek water, went shoeless outside, and played in dirt when I was a kid. It proves nothing, but that’s my experience.
It’s. Not guaranteed, but gimme the shot if it keeps my kids from the Spanish Flu
Sorry.

Oh my a fine collection. 99 reminds me that I wanted to say that the pic on the front page for this mornings links is perhaps the best ever links photo. I, however, prefer the “mini van” doughnut which is 2 in the front, 6 in the rear and requires a doughnut depiction of two hands with accurately frosted fingers which ironically is large enough it requires two hands to eat. I did not read the links so I apologize if this was already covered while I was at work.

STEVE SMITH RAPE BRAINS OUT OF FOOTBALL REF’S.
Couple of bad calls SC-OSU but the Northwestern-Kentucky game was bizarre.
I have a soft spot in my cold libertarian heart for kentucky football. God bless them, they try so hard. I watched the end of that game. I was a bit sad they couldn’t pull it off.
Yeah, I couldn’t figure out the decision for the 2 point conversion attempt. If it had been a pre-planned hurry-up, it might have worked. But with timeouts by both teams, there was no element of surprise.
Should have taken the FG and tried in overtime.
Maybe they just wanted to go home.
What do you think of the ejection of the player who mouthed off to the ref? I think unsportsmanlike was called for, but ejection seemed extreme. On the other hand, we don’t know what he said to the ref.
And by FG, I meant extra point.
I only caught the end so didn’t see the ejection. Yeah, the whole going for 2 is always a hero or zero situation. They seemed to have some momentum going for them at the time so I can see going for the win.
I’d rather see someone tossed for disrespecting the ref than for a lot of the questionable targeting calls I’ve seen this year. That said, yeah I would like to know exactly what he said.
Did you see it? He had just been tackled in a dogpile of about 4 guys, almost plowing into the ref by accident, and then the ref reached his arms out the player in what looked like an attempt to help him up to his feet. The player pretty much pushed off his hands and mouthed off (clear by his z-formation head motion). Ref pulled the flag and ejected him immediately.
I was surprised that the commentators took the player’s side and expressed outrage at the ejection. I thought it was pretty legit at least to penalize the team for unsportsmanlike.
Here is one take. that sympathizes with the player.
No I didn’t see it.
Sam Darnold sucks.
Lock your daughters up.
Still going I’m the first round. At least Sloopy won’t be on suicide watch all weekend.
But if Alabama loses he’s going to be insufferable.

TED CRUZ INTERFERES IN IRANIAN PEOPLES’ DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS
Iranian people to Ted Cruz: please don’t take our side.
You’d better make damn sure you know what the Iranian students are protesting before you publicly support them.
Very interesting indeed.
Yeah, something tells me they’re not demanding liberalizing the political application of their faith in any way.
Death to tyrants sounds good to me.

Always be mindful of Iranian Protesters
The green revolution this, I think, is not
I had a boss who was Iranian, so may be little biased for it turn out good. Pro tip: Never call a Persian an Arab. First day at work. Good thing he had good sense of humor.
OMG so true. I would rag on my college roommate (Azeri/turkic) by calling him an arab. The old world has got a heluva lot of racism
Fortunately, I knew that Persians are not Arab. But I did have to learn that my boss’s boss hates to be called Iranian and insists on Persian. He was stranded over here in 1979 as a college student. Solid guy. He put me on the OK list the first time we traveled together and I drank scotch and smoked cigars with him.
Yes, my boss was the same. He made fun of me when I said Eye-Ran, with my Okie accent. He would say, ” Where you run to, Ronnie”. I always wished he would take me to see the belly dancers, him and his son would go see. His wife was gorgeous. She was Turkish. Both them were very smart. He was engineer before building his convenient store empire, and she was a Math teacher.
Funny!
I am an Okie too, though I’ve been in Minnesoda since 1999. Oddly, my Persian upper manager is married to an Okie, a daughter of one of the founders of Cameron University in Lawton.
My accent is greatly tempered by my world traveling career army dad & mom, so I could pronounce ee-rahn correctly, but I still say y’all and fer, and I pronounce pin the same as pen. Go figure.
Where in OK are you from?
Cool…. my old boss had the convenient store in Chickasha. I lived in Chickasha for ten years from 96 to 06, and moved back to Wilburton, Ok. been here for 12 years now. Hell we might know each other OK is small state.
@spolsives
This sort of okie , cause that would be awesome
My stepmom’s from OK originally. I only went to visit her family the one time but man those lightning storms are impressive! Never really get that around here and if we did, it’s not open and flat to really get that big storm feel.
Rick–Duly bookmarked.
Gustave, I miss the storms. I took them for granted growing up in OK. We would sit under the huge 2 story porch of the Southern Greek Revival style home and watch the storms roll in and lightning everywhere.
People would say “Man, OK is boring landscape!” and I always countered that the weather was our landscape. Plus you didn’t have to drive far out of town to get away from light pollution and see the Milky Way in all its glory. It still amazes me how many people don’t know that a huge arm of the galaxy is visible to the naked eye if you get away from the cities.
I once watched a tornado form a few miles distant and roll west to east over a wheatfield. Lovely.
I am from Duncan. I know Chickasha very well!
Yeah, Gustave the lightning storms in West Oklahoma are impressive. First time I lived in Wilburton, Thunderstorms would scare the shit out of me because of the echo through the mountains… well technically they are hills.
Largest hill in America

Is close to where I live.
Well, hayeksplosive. I worked at Campus Corner if you know Chickasha, right across from USAO… Do you know Jeremy or Lara Price… Jeremy was in my band many moons ago.
Forgot my singer was from Duncan as well.. Adam Heilman
Yup, I know Campus Corner! I used to go to the “academic contests” around the state, including USAO. We high school nerds would pile onto a school bus in the wee hours and road trip up, then sit in our various tests (written by the University profs) according to our specialties, competing under timer with other Okie students in a silent written test.
USAO was my personal fave of the contests because they actually announced the test ranking outcomes and gave the medals in a ceremony in a campus auditorium. I loved it when Duncan won a trophy for overall dominance as a team. I’d love to see that sort of thing more widespread in public schools, but nobody i’ve talked to out of state have recognized the concept of competitive academic testing.
My specialties (gold medals, all) were biology, advanced biology, chemistry, physics, geometry, and grammar (go figure). Somebody was sick and couldn’t do history one year, so I filled in between science tests and managed a bronze. I wonder if I could win any of that now!
Odds of me knowing your band are slim to none. I graduated high school in ’92, and wasn’t much into live music back then.
Now I am married to a bass player. FML.
So you can help me with my Physics 2 homework. I am taking Physics 2 and Calculus 1, my next term. I feel I may be reaching the ceiling of my intellectual capacity.
Yeah, I graduated in 90 from Ada, and just turned 46, yesterday so I am feeling middle-aged. Bass players were always the coolest. I wished I learned bass instead of guitar.
You probably would not know them they were ten years younger than me. I was trying to recapture my youth.
Fake it til you make it, Prole.
I am an electrical engineer, and I can’t remember the last time I did a triple integral manually. I run a bunch of software that does it for me.
The classes are to make sure you know the basis of science and can dig into it and recognize BS when you see it on others’ research. The college tests are just boot camp to make sure you have what it takes.
Feel free to contact me at my handle at protonmail.com.
Although I confess, the only way I understood passive high order filters and the partial fraction expansion needed to design them was by drinking tequila with my 2 buddies til inspiration hit. So my advice might be questionable…
I may have to take you up on it. I am taking Electronic Engineering Technology. At work they say it can get me in the ranks out there. Hoping to get the systems engineer job working with PLC’s, but we will see. What worries me the most is I am not professional. I have had mostly manual labor type jobs, like being a roughneck on a rig, so I may pass the school, but having to be professional might be the hardest part.
“I am not professional”
Pshaw. First thing to do is forget that self defeating attitude. Then realize that skilled labor is in such demand, that I’ve had to hire over tattooed and over pierced people for the past decade. Not my preference. Also, we swear like sailors and barely skirt HR policies.
And a great technician beats the hell out of a “meh” engineer. The fact you have years of life experience helps a lot. I recommend sticking to a male-dominated field, like oil or defense.
If you want, we can talk about an internship in Minnesota at a defense contractor some time. We are back in the intern business after several years of famine!
All right then it is forgotten, my attitude.
Thanks for the offer, but one of the stipulations of my company paying for my school is being indentured servant for three years, plus I take care of my disabled mother, which can be limiting. I have worked at for this company for ten years, and plan on sticking around, for the most part.
Adding to what hayekexplosives said, I wouldn’t worry so much about the “professional” part. For my druthers, I’d rather work with someone with a manual labor background- more likely to be able to get along, or at least work, with others; understanding that you have to prove yourself & abilities and put in a certain amount of time rather than getting it handed to you; appreciation that however the job may suck (and all jobs suck some of the time), it’s better than XXX.
You’ve got your current employer paying for it? Well done! The big down side would be if they still see you as your pre-education self once you’re finished and try to keep you saddled with your present duties and responsibilities.
Thanks Gustave for the advice. I feel though my mouth may get me in trouble. 🙂 One time many years ago, I told the old plant manager, “He go fuck himself”, when he talk down to me, like I was dog. Luckily, I did not get fired, but I have gotten better. The new plant manager used to work in the same department as I did, so things are very good now. The plant now has such a different temperament after the old manager was fired. I told the new plant manager just recently the company has domesticated me.
I do not believe they will. They are already ask me when I graduate so I can fill the systems engineer spot. They are big stiglers on having a piece of paper, so even if I do not make it into engineering there are plenty spots that need degrees, like buyer for instant, which doesn’t need a specialized degree, just degree, and rumor has it they close to what engineers do.
and they do not, then I wait three more years, and get out, with free education.
You can certainly endure 3 years of just about anything, and take the experience for all it’s worth. You will still be 49 in 3 years, so why not? Gonna have to work 16-18 more years after that, and might as well have a piece of paper!
Mom used to manage a Hospital lab. One of the people she managed was an Iranian expat whose family came here in ’79. She was a living walking talking HR nightmare.
She was nominally Muslim, but a Christmas and Easter sort of Muslim if that makes sense. She didn’t bother with fasting during Ramadan, and occasionally some new Dr. from Pakistan would try to start something about her not observing Ramadan or some such, and then she would give them a lecture about how her family came here to avoid that shit. (Persians can do epic rants at the drop of a hat.)
So HR was stuck dealing with arguments between a Pakistani doctor trying to impose Islamic values, and a Muslim woman telling those docs to go fuck themselves.
That is freaking awesome, and very easy for me to believe based on the few I have known. Good for her.
My boss’s boss is famous for his rants, but as soon as they’re done, they’re done. I have had to talk many a tender Minnesotan down from the ledge after they received the sharp end of his rants and explain that it’s all over when it’s over, and he won’t even remember a thing.
Amazing that these Minnesotans were once Vikings.
My wife is half Persian. I have a lot of fun with her dad, at his expense.
And even more with her, amirite?
I ask her where he buys his sweaters. (when he’s not wearing one)
Fantastic!…. He would always go to San Diego to visit with family. I hear there is goo population of Iranians there.
San Diego and Santa Monica/West LA.
More Persians in California than anywhere else but Iran.
Careful. The old ladies will cut in front of you in line at the grocery store… while making eye contact.
I knew several second-generation Persian girls growing up. Part of why I’m obsessed with Bahá’ís. Tupping hell, they’re gorgeous.
I still get a tear in my eye when I mentally replay the footage of the death of Neda Agha-Soltan, a 27 year old Iranian music student walking with her music teacher during the Iranian election protests (they weren’t even protesting, just walking by and observing.)
Heartbreaking.
And then that POS Obama urged “restraint on both sides”, which was enough to tip the protesters/would-be-revolutionaries back into hopeless “we are alone” mode, and the Iranian gov’t tightened its grip. I was so full of hope at the time that the Persians could really claw back and get a moderate gov’t again.
Compare this with O’s warboner on other fronts: Syria, Libya, Yemen, etc. My theory is that he sympathizes with Shia, not Sunni. Or he’s just an idiot.
Idiot, likely. My IR prof was not sympathetic to the ‘Obama Doctrine’, event the liberal leaning textbooks were like, ‘IDK what it is but his doctrine is def dreamy’.
F-ing google and their age restricted content.
I have a deep and abiding hate for the Mullahs because one of my first girlfriend’s family had to flee Iran with nothing but what they were wearing. Her Dad was an engineer working for a multinational. If you make 14 year-old Nadine cry then you earn my eternal enmity. Fuck you very much.
Preach it, good man.
By the way, the instinctive protection instinct of men over more vulnerable women and children is why I have no patience for feminism or “gender is just a contruct” ism.
And by “instinct of men” I mean of good men like you, not the mullahs and their ilk. They are the opposite.
I hear they were shouting “Hezbollah”. Which isyquite as liberal as we might hope.
Were they shouting in support, or pointing out people in the crowd and stoning them? I hope the latter.
Lotsa people running away shouting “He’s Bollah!”
This was funny.. Always someone being an ass. It is why I love this place.

Holy fuck – obvious interference in the end zone.
It was definitely interference. Obvious on instant reply slow motion but I don’t know about from a refs standpoint. Real time, he had his hand on his arm for a split second so I could see missing it. Those calls aren’t reviewable though.
A total of 31 points have been scored in the Fiesta Bowl game, which features Ohio State.
This is similar to last year’s Fiesta Bowl game, where a total of 31 points were scored in a game featuring Ohio State.
Cotton Bowl this year.
Is 40 years old too late to say “fuck it” to a career I hate, go back to school, and start over again? Asking for a friend.
Nope. Do it.
Depends on the career. I’ve done it twice. But I’m not 40 yet.
Nope. My wife went back to school at 40 to be a nurse. Best decision she ever made. Made take a little while but like I told her, in 5 years you can be in the same place you are right now or somewhere else, either way 5 years are going to pass.
Excellent advice. I’ve heard similar–whether you make a change or a sacrifice or whatever, 5 years from now is still 5 years from now; where do you want to be?
Dude, I just turned 46, and am in school, but it is my first career.
46? I thought you were younger than me.
What made you think that? I do act like a juvenile. LOL.
Apparently, you know where the fountain of youth is, and you’re not sharing.
You may be looking at my old photos on Facebook… I haven’t uploaded a recent photo in a long time, because I look like middle aged man.
Me too. I didn’t lose any hair, but I started gaining some in places that it didn’t grow before.
Yeah, I grew my hair out, look like a hippie except for the smell of Patchouli.
Just don’t go to San Diego. I’ve been warned.
You were warned
LOLZ
JB is a smart man. If he can pick up an MS in Biology, he should absolutely go to San Diego.
I suppose it depends somewhat on the new track, and the backstory on why the current career is hated but generally no. I’ve taken several online courses and a large number are post-traditional college age students.
I was forty thirty years ago – you are *not* old
I chucked my career at forty and never looked back and did quite well. Swore I’d never spend my life just serving time. Saw too many people doing that.
My dad did it at forty and probably three times after. Succeeded each time and quit when it stopped being a challenge. I admire him greatly.
“Regret for the things we did can be tempered by time; it is regret for the things we did not do that is inconsolable.”
Sydney J. Harris
Also, regardless of your situation, in today’s economy you should always be enhancing your skillset. So with that in mind what do you want to spend your time learning?
I go through this shit every time I go away for Christmas. I’m too much of a fucking coward to do it, but…
..aw, fuck it. I know I’m going to keep doing what I’m doing and drop dead of a heart attack in the office one day.
What I need is a time machine to go back 20 years and beat the shit out of myself for even thinking of going to law school.
What is it about going away for Christmas that does it?
What would be something that you think would be preferable?
So what you, er your friend, want to do instead? Or is it just something different?
Read some philosophy (principally Aristotle and Kierkegaard if possible). Seriously. Then GTFO out, as far as your obligations to your wife and offspring allow. It’s not worth it. All that shit about life being too short; it’s trite, cliche, simple-minded… and true. You were given a great gift to experience life. Don’t waste it.
JB. You wrote a very compelling and sad post last father’s day. I wanted to scream “Go do something else before it’s too late!!!!
It’s scary as hell – I sure was for me. Your only regret will be that you didn’t do it sooner.
Do you hate the career or just the segment of the field you are in at the moment?
I have never really had a career. I could not tell you the number of times my line of work has changed over the years without really thinking about it for awhile. But then again I have issues. To this day I regret not sticking with my first “career” path.
Also, why do you think you have to go back to school? What do you want to do? 40 is a great age for change.
My original college major, before I decided to be an idiot, was accounting.
My issue with my current career is that I cannot generate business. In a decade at my current firm I have brought in a grand total of one client who paid total fees of around $10,000. I’m expected to bring in $250,000 of business annually (along with what I bill). I’m never going to be able to do that. Thanks to that, I’m making the exact same amount of $ I was in 2008. I can’t keep up like this.
I also despise living in south Florida and being near my family, all of whom are insane (and it’s getting worse, I’ve gotta talk some of that when it’s not now, but I will say that both of my parents still use me as a proxy to yell at each other, because they divorced in 2002 and they still won’t speak to each other like adults. But anyways).
My last gasp may be to see if I can transfer to our Orlando office or our Tampa office (preferably Orlando) and see if a change of scenery like that helps.
Wish we had an Atlanta or Charlotte office.
Leave. Seriously, move to Texas. Whatever you are doing in Florida you can do in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or Austin. I say this as soenowho is trying to make a 49% gain moving back to Austin
If you have kids it’s obviously much harder to make a big move, but you should think of your well being. If you really despise living in a place and you’re job then start making definite steps to change the situation. You don’t need to do it all in one week. Life is suffering, but that doesn’t mean it has to be miserable.
I love S Florida, but I have not lived there since 1990 E coast, and 1994/5 W coast? I have visited a few times for beach and Cuban Sandwiches but have not moved back. I do not get the lawyer/hook clients game. I could not do that either. I was always a big fan of change of scenery which has led to my numerous lines of work. You have the brain pan to do anything you want…..
I wouldn’t hammer yourself on your salary being the same. Life is life. I paid more in taxes in 2008 than I made in 2017.
I’m 31 and changing degrees again. I’ve spent countless despondent evenings googling “26 is too old for”, “27 too old to”, “30 and too old for”… I desperately wish I’d pulled the trigger on something ages ago. I wish I hadn’t wasted my twenties on the worthless shit I did. I have a friend with four kids. What the fuck have I been doing all these years?
Anyway, recrimination is a pretty worthless habit.
You are a young man. I started on my current small business when I was 33. That was a decade ago and even though I am somewhat burned out on it, I have more work than I can handle. I’ve made it so that my family can live a pretty comfortable life and I don’t have to work much more than 40 hours a week to do so. The first years were an absolute shit ton of hours to get it going. You don’t have to find a dream job, it is work after all, just find something that works for you and that you don’t mind doing and you are well ahead.
I know the feeling. I was almost 31 when I joined the Army. No kids or marriage yet, but there’s still time, and anyway, I’m in good shape and am comfortably poor.
Tomorrow I’m gonna do that Grand Canyon Skywalk. Thanks taxpayers!
That guy with 4 kids? He’s probably tired of stepping on legos and never having any time for beer or video games. Enjoy your freedom while it lasts.
I have three kids and I am definitely tired of stepping on legos. I didn’t have my first till 37. You should definitely do all the things that will be much more difficult or impossible when you have kids (at least young ones).
My buddy’s pretty much what I wish I was: sober, pious, married his high school sweetheart, hasn’t looked back. Neither has she. He’s the stay-at-home dad, she’s the breadwinner. I don’t relish that so much, but they make it work. And they’re now four deep and holding. God bless the lot of them.
I was around that age when I decided that a Poli Sci degree was as worthless as it sounds. About three years later I decided that there just might be something to this website thing and started learning web development via books, websites, pretty much anything I could get my hands on. I’ve been doing it for six years now professionally and while I’m not exactly rolling in it I make a decent living and am poised to do a bit better than that in the new year with any luck.
I’ve also got friends with multiple kids, and I blew my twenties on clubs and booze. It happens. Don’t cry over spilt milk. Also, having kids in your 30s offers a few advantages. One, you’ve got more life experience. Two, you’re usually more stable. Three, you’re usually more patient. Four, most people having kids later in life are ready to settle down. And as others have said, 31 is young as hell. Shit, I’m looking at 40 this August and not only am I in the best shape of my life but I’m a hell of a lot less stupid than I was at, say, 20.
I realize now I’ve been using “recrimination” wrong, and for awhile. I thought it meant re-litigating past offenses. Nope.
In Canada? Yep. In the developed world I’d urge you to go for it. Signed, Binderdundat.
Addendum. Where I live it is a very segregated system. A single female at age 40 with few skills an get a full ride but a working man in the same situation gets a shit sammich, provided he gets off his duff and scrapes some turd for himself. The 2008 bubble burst hit me particularly hard and I still haven’t recovered. I was a foreman in the construction supply industry but without tickets or easily fungible skills. I had to fight tooth and nail to get the agency to enroll me into a forklift operator class, even though I’d been driving them for twenty five years. Nobody wants the “Middle-aged White Man” no mo.
Nobody wants the “Middle-aged White Man” no mo. Tru Dat.
The job I have now I was almost not hired for. I got the, “you are way over qualified for this position” line. I was like, “well, if you know of a position that better fits my qualifications I am all ears. I just need a job.”
I got turned away from dozens of places just because I was competent.
From what I understand, adults in their 30s and 40s tend to do rather well in school as they have usually established a fairly solid work ethic by then.
The trick is making it work with a life that probably has financial and family obligations.
I’m not quite 40 but if my company lets me go in the next couple years I’ll more than likely change careers to something completely different.
After 2 years of telecommuting I can’t see myself sitting in an office ever again and I’d probably have to drive 40+ miles to get a job in my present field. (not much demand for my skills in a small town)
First part? Nope. Second? Maybe.
Is there a way you can parlay what you’ve done in terms of career experience into something else? I say this because while it’s totally possible to start over at 40 you’ve also probably acquired quite a bit of marketable experience, and if you can just nudge that over into something else you’ll save tuition and time, and also look like a Renaissance man in your new digs. I’ve got a friend who went from one very specialized career track into wastewater management on the basis of extensive experience running a machine shop. After a couple years of his nose to the grind stone he’s doing quite well, better than if he’d just started from scratch. It’s not an apples to apples comparison, I know, but still.
I’ll echo what other folks said. 40 is not too old to start over. I’ve done it a few times. IT guy. Game designer. Teacher. Back to IT.
At 40 I was miserable. Hated my job. I would find myself mentally calculating how much money I would make that day, and would I rather suck a dick for that money instead.
So I said fuck it. Never again would I work in some office with fluorescent lights, dreary meetings, HR weasels.
Today I have a job I love. I make whiskey and vodka and bourbon. I work hard. I lift thousands of pounds of corn each day. I climb ladders. I haul around wooden barrels. I go home coatednin sweat, and I look forward to the next day.
It wasn’t an easy switch. I started part time at a small distillery. At first it was part time. Few years later I’m in charge of a new distillery, with a good staff under me.
I’m happy. Really, really happy.
40 is still young.
Last
Time to get drunk before my wife takes off to help her Mom and Mom’s bf. He’s not in great shape and facing radiation and chemo. Fuck cancer. Still, it’s good to be able to take care of family. I hope he lives 10 more years. He’s been great to my MiL and great to my kids.
All kidding aside, best wishes to your semi Father-in-law. Blood ain’t nothing but a construct when it comes to human interactions. God-speed to you and yours and happy fucking New Year!

Egypt: Gunmen launch deadly attack on Coptic church
At least nine people have been killed in the attack outside Cairo, including two police officers. Islamist militants have increasingly targeted the Coptic Christian community, carrying out attacks on churches.
A gunman opened fire outside a church on the outskirts of Cairo before attempting to storm the building, leaving five people dead, including two police officers.
Earlier reports by security sources said at least two attackers were involved. One was shot dead and another fled the scene. The interior ministry did not explain the reason for the different accounts.
The so-called “Islamic State” terror group later claimed responsibility for the attack, via its Amaq News Agency propaganda outlet.
Egypt has witnessed an increase in attacks against the country’s Coptic Christian community and its places of worship over the past year.

Iran: Hundreds of thousands of protesters shout “We don’t want an Islamic Republic”

The US says “the world is watching” how Iranian authorities respond to anti-government protests that have broken out in several cities.
A White House statement said Iranians were fed up with “the regime’s corruption and its squandering of the nation’s wealth to fund terrorism”.
The US State Department condemned the arrests of dozens of protesters.
Thousands of people are said to have joined demonstrations in the cities of Kermanshah, Rasht, Isfahan and Qom.
The protests spread to the capital, Tehran, on Friday and social media footage showed a heavy police presence there.
It is the biggest display of public dissent since huge pro-reform rallies in 2009.
“The Iranian government should respect their people’s rights, including their right to express themselves. The world is watching,” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Twitter. The tweet later appeared on President Donald Trump’s Twitter account.
The US State Department urged all nations “to publicly support the Iranian people and their demands for basic rights and an end to corruption”.

I recommend the movie Hunt for the Wilderpeople. It’s like Up but with more guns, swearing, and car chases.
What We Do in the Shadows is also a treat. It’s a mockumentary about vampires in New Zealand.
I can’t stomach that Jemaine feller. Something about his screen presence puts me off my feed.
according to Abel Ferrara, without the appropriate percentage of ‘pussy’, its not yet a good film,
his director commentary is the funniest shit on earth. he says things like, “you see this shit? (shot of A-list actress) That shit cost money. you can fake some shit, but you can’t fake quality pussy. Did you know that’s what movies are? Guns, and pussy, mostly. (pops another beer) And the pussy costs money. Bet no one ever told you that. you went to art school didn’t you? (to his dir. commentary interviewer). what a fucking waste of time. i bet you end up making very arty commercials. Pretentious commercials.”
On my list but for some reason some of those “new release” titles aren’t dropping in price at amazon.

Thanks. I have one more week of training and then I officially get my MOS. Then off to my first assignment. Army Strong, Army Smash.
I laughed until I had to hit the emergency inhaler again. Asshole.

By now many people have had a good laugh at the expense of young Wyatt, heir to the least-known of the infamous Koch brothers. He drew national attention last week over a promotional video for his luxury Hawaiian shirt company, which sells a broad range of garish designs from pink handcuffs to orange cannolis for $140 each. Perhaps due to its toxic infamy, the Koch connection is disguised in the shirts’ marketing—the brand is simply “Wyatt Ingraham.” But Koch, who is featured in the video driving a Humvee and partying on a yacht, became a conveniently cartoonish symbol of the kind of person who stands to benefit from the Republicans’ massive tax giveaway: you couldn’t really find a more amusing counterpoint to the idea that the rich are useful to society.
Koch presents such an exaggerated image of the “leisure class” that he seems to have stepped straight out of a piece of Soviet anti-capitalist propaganda. He is the child of a billionaire who appears to spend most of his time shopping, lunching, and playing tennis at Mar-a-Lago. He has contributed nothing of any obvious worth to the world—save a series of unfortunate designer shirts, yet stands to inherit a billion dollars (tax-free, if Republicans get their way). And not only is he the kind of extravagant man who spends $180,000 on an engagement ring, but he is also the kind of petty man who fights a legal battle to get it back once the wedding gets called off. Heck, the shirts he designs are literally covered with pictures of money bags. (See photo above.) If anyone ever again dares to use the word “meritocracy” to describe the United States, the only reply you need is a large color photograph of Wyatt Koch.

1. Never hand a woman thousands of dollars unless you’re in a whorehouse.
2. One man’s wealth does not cause another’s poverty.
The article oozes with envy. The author cannot stand that someone else has this much money. Wyatt is right. One man’s wealth does not cause another’s poverty. The tax plan will help me come Feb. Bonuses come out in March, and it may be bigger because of the corporate tax reduction, and possibly this year I may get more than a 3% cola raise. I have also had 27% increase in my 401k. For a guy that makes 32k a year, it is quiet impressive what Trump has done for me in year, and has fuck all to do with Wyatt Koch.
The LAPD has arrested a man in connection with a fatal SWATting call
tl;dr: Crazy idiot who’s SWATted multiple people before (and called in fake bomb threats, got arrested for that a couple of years ago) does it again. Calls in and claims that one person had been shot dead in the home and two more were being held hostage. Cops show up. Homeowner opens door, because he’s curious as to why his house is surrounded by cop cars with flashy lights. Unarmed, obviously. Cops shoot him dead immediately.
Now, yes. Throw the book at the dude who made the call. But something tells me we’re going to ignore the police action here in, you know, shooting first and asking questions later.
crazier: Apparently this is all due to Call of Duty. See, video games do cause violence.
The City of LA seems to have a big problem with this. When 98% of your swat callouts are through deaf interpreters and teletype….. maybe…. just maybe
Upon further review, LAPD arrested the guy who “called”. He was killed in Kansas.
Jeezus Christ. It’s not going to end until the murderer with a badge is summarily executed on the spot for their actions.
Also, I’m doped on benzos but still unable to sleep, so I’ll probably regret posting my self-pity above. Oh well.
Get a CBD vape pen. You can order it online. That with some meditation, you’d probably do a lot better than with the meds.
Quitter.
There’s a really great place in downtown Fort Lauderdale for that stuff. I started on the oil, but then got paranoid about flying up here with it (given the stupidity of the average TSA agent, I really didn’t feel like having to deal with a police call after they found it). It worked to some degree in a week of testing. The two guys that run the place are awesome, and they talked about vaping being possibly a better solution for me. If the oil works I may switch to the vape.
Came down from the Xmas bender and was wide awake for two days. Read a 350 page book overnight and it wasn’t some Danielle Steele shit, it was short-listed for prizes and what-not. The brain goes into overdrive and you’d best have a hobby.
I’m always here when the rest are sleeping. But my advice is always: sell everything you own and move. Done it twice. Can’t do it again (family), but that realization that you won’t die homeless from taking a chance is exhilarating.
Muh Kittahs!
Before I go to bed, congratulations to Sloopy’s Ohio State Buckeyes on their bowl victory tonight. I’m sure it will be sad for him that JT Barrett’s 35 year reign as tOSU’s quarterback is now over.
And we all pretend that they’re college students. Er…. most people. Not me.
Warty’s spawn?
LOL.. looks like he praised the Doom Cock afterwards.
He’s got a daughter…. And she’s stronger.

https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/946878476040179712
No fan of Clarke, but 15 minutes?
Yeah, I do not like him as well, but it getting kind of ridiculous at this point.
Deprivation of rights under color of law and conspiracy of the same. Huh.
If you try to hold down one of the Old Ones you are apt to get tentacled. Photogenic cheek scratch if you’re lucky.
That’s exactly what they’re going to find in those emails.
Gonna try my hand at SP’s lemon meringue pie. Except for the crust. Not going from scratch. Sorry.
