SLOOPY CAMEO!!!
I wonder if he will be a recurring character?
WTF is on his head?
Robby Soave’s hair.
Possibly the greatest composite character ever.
seconded.
I really don’t mean to hijack this but I need some advice/help. My parents have a house in the lower keys and I am considering flying down there tomorrow to try to save some of the cars and boats we have there. My biggest problem is where would I take them once I got them back to the mainland? Should I just drive to georgia or try to find a storage unit somewhere around Orlando?
Drive to Georgia- relive the movie Deliverance- or park them in Orlando and watch girls in bikinis on a beach.
Tough call
Um I highly doubt there will be anything on the beach during a cat 5 hurricane.
Pansies.
I had to chuckle during the live newscasts from outside of Houston. The news reader would be going on and on about the apocalyptic scene, with traffic driving back and forth behind them, looking pretty unperturbed. For extra lulz for Texas natives, most of the vehicles were white pickups (pretty much the national vehicle of Texas).
Those world famous Orlando beaches?
Orlando has a beach?
They have some ponds with gators. Does that count?
If you can find storage units that are gonna keep out a couple feet of water, sure, use storage units.
But color me skeptical.
I have a large barn that’s mostly empty at the moment. You’re welcome to it. Plus, arkansas never gets hurricanes.
Where abouts would this barn be?
Northwest arkansas.
Probably too far. If I’m going to go that far we could just take it back to NM where my parents live.
we could just take it back to NM
That’s probably another 12 hours on the road.
I just checked it’s only 8 more hours
From my house to ft. bliss in El Paso it’s right at 16 hours.
Towing boats?
It is quicker than I though from Fort Smith to ABQ – only about 10.5 hours.
How big are these boats?
If this thing hits south Florida, I’ll drive halfway across and meet you. We can take the boats back in after the storm hits and pull people out like we did in Houston. Assuming they’re not too big.
I don’t know if I have that much time. I have to be at work again on Monday. I am not so financially secure that I can just take a few weeks off unfortunately. It’s two jetskis and a decent sized fishing boat… I want to say 12 feet.
Feel free to drop it off in Houston. I’ll store the skis here in my yard for you and I’ll take the boat back to Florida.
I’ll just email you.
I have a house with a garage. But on the West half of the state. I can put those up for a while. Sloopy can run point on putting us together.
Typical libertarians….doing things voluntarily, and by yourselves. Don’t you know you are supposed to lie back and bleat for TEH GOVERNMENT to take care of all this?!?!?!?!
Do you think it will be a Category 5 by the time it hits landfall?
Go to high ground in Georgia. Safest bet.
If the storm turns North, you probably want to leave them where they are.
I’m waiting as long as I can but I have to make a decision by today. My plan is to get there tomorrow night and either leave late Thursday or early Friday. The last thing I want is to be stuck in the fucking keys with sharknado up my ass.
If you have to pull the trigger, you’re welcome to bring them to my house. It’s a decent midway point and you can stay here going each way.
I would expect the causeway to be pretty jammed at some point. Might want to aim for an earlier departure. You could take FMLA time if your parents have a “serious health condition”.
Or the VA could just not be pricks, and give you time off to deal with a family emergency.
I don’t work at the VA, thats sharpshooter. I make rockets and get zero paid time off.
That’s right. For some reason, I saw “Employer being a prick” and went straight to “VA”.
Nice.
To be honest I would just tell them I was sick for two weeks and hand them a note from my kids pediatrician.
Right now the best guess is that this goes over the keys, into Southwest Florida and literally straight up the entire state. Go with Georgia.
This subject to change after the next model runs because none of them make any sense right now.

This is the clearest projection I have seen.
Monitor soaked again, That was Perfect!
“a house in the lower keys ”
Find your insurance company’s number.
lots and lots of saran wrap
Now that I think about it, Pajama Boy looks a lot like Nick Sarwark. Oh my God…it’s the same person.
Sloopy Soave never fails to make me start giggling like a 12yr old.
Sloopy the goals of SJWs are noble libertarian. Makes me laugh too.
The cameos were brilliant. But you know that sloopy shaved, right?
i refuse to accept this and believe that Oberleutnant Von Sloopy of the Imperial Zeppelin Geschwader still lives, somewhere.
Even if he did shave the word on the street is that thing grows back to full power within 16 hours.
14.
There’s just so much exaggeration on the street these days.
You know that Donald Trump doesn’t really have swastikas for eyes, right?
That’s what you think.
*as far as we know*. He could be wearing contacts.
Dual Swastimonicles.
It’s funnier with the facial hair.
Standing O, BP, this is my favorite to date. Even without the eye-candy.
I love that “Sloopy’s” car is flooded to the gills, but the hood is open.
I don’t know why, but the expression on his face combined with the hair just kills me every time I look at it. I can’t not laugh.
Thx, NB. To you and Chipwooder, understand there will be many, many Conchitas (and others) in the future.

+ a whole lot.
Hmm… I thought it was a significant milestone when I saw my name mentioned in comments when I wasn’t around, but now I’m mentioned in an actual post.
I’m not sure if I should be proud or if I need to reconsider some of my life choices.
Yes and yes.
Be proud. The jar of urine makes it even funnier.
As does the Douche Mob flag.
Trigger happy cop tags news photographer.
Small town, so they actually know each other. True story: my first speeding ticket was given to me by a high school classmate. Of course, a serf who popped a news photographer in the mistaken belief that a camera was a gun would be in jail right now, etc.
“I was just doing my job,” he said. “I know Jake. I like Jake. I don’t want him to lose his job over this.”
That is some extra fancy boot licking right there. Take notes glibs.
Related: Police Shoot Man For Recording Them With Phone, They Feared For Their Lives
Naturally, any serf who plugged someone holding a cellphone would be laughed out of court for saying the phone was an immediate threat. Then they decided to compound their criminal activity by breaking and entering. I wonder how long they delayed the ambulance so they could arrest their victim?
How about the fucking judges signing off on those search warrants? This one and the one back in Minnesota after the woman was shot and killed.
I bet the search in this case was warrantless, based on the exigent circumstances of the cops pooping their pants.
Translation: Jake knows me. Jake is armed and already shot me once. I don’t want him to blame me for losing his job (not that he would be tried and sent to prison for attempted murder).
That would be funny:
“For Christ’s sake, he already shot me once. Do you think I’m actually going to demand that he get fired?”
Thus shit won’t stop until police are held personally liable for their actions.
Here’s the counterargument you’ll hear:
“Personal liability would have a chilling effect that would endanger the lives of officers and citizens alike. Police officers have to make split-second, life-or-death decisions every day. If they’re forced to hesitate out of fear that their careers or even their lives could be ruined because of an honest mistake made in the line of duty, it could cost them or the
the citizens they protect their lives.”
Now of course that’s a load of shit, but that’s what they’ll say.
Yup. The idea that cops “hesitating” to shoot somebody might actually save lives doesn’t seem to be a thing.
Those massive ballistic vests they bought with my tax dollars are just for intimidation.
I keep trying to come up with a good non-cop analogy but there’s no equivalent circumstance. Castle Doctrine applies in my state, but even so I can’t just blast some stranger in my house unless he gets violent and I’ve exhausted other avenues within reason. And I definitely can’t shoot someone in my yard, legally speaking. Shoot some guy standing across the street because he’s taking my picture and I get nervous? I’m going to prison, no question whatsoever.
And… all your firearms get confiscated, they guy sues you for whatever you have left when you get done paying the lawyer, you are labelled a violent-felon for the rest of your life…
Let’s not forget that you will go to jail immediately after the shooting, and sit there pending a trial 12-18 months in the future, contra Officer Noor. Who still hasn’t been arrested after all of this time since he shot Justine Damond.
Oh, for sure. Hell, my FIL keeps a cheap Kel-Tec on a shelf handy to his front door because, having worked in law enforcement, he knows that the odds he’d see a gun he used to shoot a burglar or whoever are slim to none, and that’s in Texas. In Maryland, they’re searching the house and taking all the guns. Maybe I get them back, maybe I don’t, but it won’t matter too much because I’ll have to sell them anyway to pay my legal fees.
Aunt Petunia’s gonna be pissed
Do any of you work?
Apparently not Sloopy, he’s trying to ditch Banjos and the kids for a vacation in the Keys with Vhyrus upthread.

Oh shit! I knew “Christopher Columbus” looked familiar, but I had to stare at it a bit to get it. Brilliant!
Oh…just one more thing…?
Thanks, Swiss. Should have refreshed first.
He’s on COZI and I’ve been reacquainting myself with him. The last time I saw it was as a kid watching with my dad.
I give up, who is it?
Peter Falk, as Columbo.
You know who else like cigars?
working on my pidgin there.
Monica Lewinski?
Sounds like Bernie was working with Secret Nazi President. Irony disabled Hillary now blames Sanders for ‘lasting damage‘ in 2016 race. No word from Bernie or Seth Rich on how if feels to get shived by the DNC.
Irony disabled Hillary now blames Sanders for ‘lasting damage‘ in 2016 race.
Hillary seizes, as is her wont, on the worst possible response, and the best way to ensure that the alienation of the Berniebots is, indeed, lasting damage.
We were worried about JFK taking orders from the pope.
Poor Hillary. Colluding with the DNC to submarine Bernie, and she “felt like she was in a straitjacket”.
I wonder if she is speaking from experience, there.
We should be so lucky if she ended up in a straitjacket.
So what would “unrestrained and free to do as she wished” look like?
“But that’s impossible! How will the nominee maintain control without the Bernie-bots?”
“The regional party officials now have direct control over their territories. Fear will keep the local voters in line. Fear of this campaign!”
Like this?
I’ve read similar lists before – but it still makes me say “Holy Shit”. They have one hell of a good hit man on retainer but he has to learn to actually take the money in the fake robberies.
It’s easy to get away with it when law enforcement decides ahead of time to not investigate.
It’s inconceivable that this many people can die, perhaps due to foul play, over this long a period of time, and nobody involved has talked about it or left financial or other traces.
Like a Bond villain in real life. Hell, the Mafia couldn’t pull something like this off.
I see, just add a couple of 0’s to the end of the headline in RC’s link.
Probably best that Sugar Free doesn’t do artwork.
Hey, say what you want about Cthulhu, R’lyeh is a tightly managed operation.
“tight” doesn’t mean much in non-euclidean space.
That’s what she said.
All she’s lacking is the sandwich board.
It really is amazing that the woman is able to keep it together with her head held high in the face of the thousands of people who conspired against her to cause her to lose a presidential election against Donald Trump through absolutely no fault of her own.
Everyday I smile that that grifter is not President.
Election night was one of the funniest nights of my life
I mean, I’m not a pro-Trump guy by any means, but his opposition even then was so distasteful that I found myself pulling for the guy. I was sure we’d have at least four years of HRC, and I was already prepped to drink myself unconscious for a week. When I realized that Trump was going to win the damn thing, it felt like an incredible sense of lightness had washed over me, as if a burden I didn’t know I’d been carrying was suddenly lifted. I didn’t think things magically wouldn’t suck, but I knew a.) they’d probably suck less, and b.) it would if nothing else be a different kind of suck.
“…and hilarity ensued” should follow every single Clinton quote.
i can’t wait to read her new book on her collapse Wha Happened??!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Of8JOVXYU0Q
One of the least-discussed news items of the past month or so has been the argument that the DNC made (successfully) when Sanders sued them for rigging the primaries
http://observer.com/2017/08/court-admits-dnc-and-debbie-wasserman-schulz-rigged-primaries-against-sanders/
they effectively said (and probably correctly) that the entire primary system is a sham anyway, and that the Party ultimately picks who they want directly, so it doesn’t matter if they gamed it.
Which might be legally accurate, but isn’t really the argument you want to make to your voter-base after that decision by the DNC resulted in a failed election campaign, and various interests spent millions and millions of dollars trying to influence voters whose votes ultimately didn’t matter
And i do think the matter might be different for a suit brought by bernie-supporting DNC donors whose funds were directed entirely to the hillary campaign, while misrepresenting their own impartiality.
Basically, the shit they pulled would be considered unbelievably scandalous in any other context, but because the DNC can effectively commit crimes out in the open and never get called on it by the media, it just sits there ignored.
And they still lost to Trump
And are apparently working feverishly to make sure it happens again.
I hope Hillary writes a new book every year.
Picking at open wounds is fun.
Pick away.
“It’s a place where problematic voices will be drowned out by pro-Hillary factoids, each with a verification number that allows people to make sure the meme they are spreading hasn’t been Photoshopped. ”
You’ve got to be fucking be kidding me.
The fact that Superdelegates are even a thing proves this.
any democratic process always tries to create the impression of greater-democratic-participation than there really is, because the more it looks like outcomes are the result of popular will, the greater legitimacy is conferred to candidates.
perhaps the irony is that at the same time the DNC was openly sabotaging a grassroots rebellion… Trump, by sheer force, compelled the RNC to run with him, even though there were open calls by many party insiders to use some procedural efforts to strip him of the nomination.
There seems to be no memory at all of the fact that little more than a year ago, the RNC assumed a trump defeat was inevitable, and were openly calling their own voters idiots for demanding a cad for a candidate
I think if we had some modern political wit like a hunter s. thompson or a norman mailer (or RIP hitchens) there is a very good book to be written about how the 2016 election was one of the most bizarre examples “parties conspiring against their own voters”; never was it more clear that the interests of the political class and the actual voting-class were entirely opposed.
Of the numerous atrocities CNN commits on a daily basis, autoplay videos are at the top of the list.
Yep, everyone thought Hillary was a real straight-shooter up until that damned Bernie started dragging her good name through the mud, and her all unable to defend herself because she had to follow Obama’s orders. So unfair.
Okay I just talked to my mom, it looks like the operation is go. Our plan is to fly in to Ft lauderdale and rent a uhaul pickup, drive it down to the house, grab the durango, the motorcycle, the boat, and the jetskis, and haul ass to orlando. We find a storage place to throw all the shit and we leave.
I’d start looking for a storage place now. You’re not the only person trying to get valuables out of South florida. Good luck.
I know, that’s my biggest concern, along with getting the fuck out of dodge once we actually drop everything off. My dad will probably take the durango back to New Mexico and I will fly home.
Uh, which Key are they on? Key West is a LONG way from Ft. Lauderdale – almost 200 miles. You might want to see if you can reserve one online in the Keys first.
It’s cudjoe key, about 30 mins from key west. It’s about a 3 hour drive from miami. I highly doubt there will be anything to rent in key west and even if there was there is no way for us to get down there which is why we are renting in Ft lauderdale. It will be expensive but its cheaper than losing 20 grand worth of vehicles.
You need to go ASAP, Vhyrus. In about 2-3 days, I am guessing, the Keys will be subject to traffic controls. Contraflow, mainly. If they haven’t already.
One other thing: U-haul and the like trucks eat gas like it’s nothing. Especially idling stuck in traffic.
Gas stations will run out along the way. Ergo, it’d be really helpful if you had a few filled five gallon tanks to top up with for your trucks. You will spend out the ass for one (Thanks EPA!). But it beats running out.
The inside story of what it took to keep a Texas grocery chain running in the chaos of Hurricane Harvey
Interview with the CEO of HEB. Capitalism ftw!
Great interview. Thanks Tundra. He and the rest of the company seem like they really “get it.”
Thanks also Tundra! Ditto on the “get it”.
See, recognition doesn’t take that much at times, but it does have to be unique and something you can’t just go out and buy yourself! My idiot company changed their anniversary policy to remove any sort of specialness and now it’s a gift card to a limited number of stores. A gift card. Gee, I can pick one of those up myself. And it would be for a store I could actually use.
That is fantastic. Great example of true leadership. Love it.
HEB Central Market > Whole Foods
The CM on N. Lamar may make the best burger in Austin.
The CM on N. Lamar may make the best burger in Austin.
I would be very surprised if it’s better than Casino El Camino’s, but Central Market does make tasty food.
HEB is the best grocery chain in Texas by a large margin, though Sprouts, HMart, and Ranch 99 beat the snot out of it on many things.
Great leadership techniques. Our local HEBs have been open for the time I’ve been back in Houston. Shortened hours, and minus some front window glass, but they’ve been there.
Casino el Camino? The dive bar downtown? No comparison.
CM’s burger is a restaurant-style simply seasoned burger which tastes so strongly of BEEF that I suspect it has had beef-flavoring added.
For seasoned-out-the-ying-yang, Burger TX is better. Also for Korean Hotties.
For smoked burgers, Hoover’s is the best choice.
No Conchita? I call bullshit.
Needless to say there probably won’t be a firearms friday since I’ll be risking my life this weekend battling Irma, destroyer of Floridas.
STEVE SMITH HELP. HE LIKE DOING LINKS. AND RAPE. ALWAYS RAPE.
Sounds like you could write an article on HAARP.
What caliber for a hurricane?
The only caliber I have at the Florida house, which is a snubnose 38. Not my first choice, but you run what you brung.
Be careful out there, guy.
Good luck, Vhyrus!
+1
Safe travels, dude!
Irma is my grandmother. She destroys more than just Florida.
I knew these damn immigrants would come flying in from Africa and wreck our country!
Um…my family has been technically American since 1853.
Good luck this week. Try not to shoot Florida man.
Do I have to /sarc tag EVERYTHING?!
You people, I swear.
YOU PEOPLE!?!?
Or, if you do, try to drop him on the first shot.
Less return fire that way.
meth and bath salt users don’t usually go down in a single shot.
Better to use shotgun slugs just to be sure.
Treat ’em like zombies. Most things don’t do well after being shot in the head.
Its easier to get head shots with buckshot.
Obviously it doesn’t count if it’s after the American Mexican War.
Gadsden Purchase
I’m descended from somebody that coincidentally, resided on the north side of the line they drew through Nogales, AZ.
Growing up in NM, many “Hispanics” are of straight Spanish descent and (since I’m one of (((them))) ) have been in the country much longer than my family and are much whiter than me (oh, and lost their Spanish about 6 or 7 generations ago). But go ahead and just lump them into the monolith of “brown people from down south”. The East Coast establishment is pathetically provincial with a cartoonish understanding of the country they supposedly represent.
They have never even intended to represent you, Q. All they want is to rule you.
They’re only authentic if they look like an extra from a spaghetti western, while taking a siesta wearing a sombrero, of course.
/NYC progtard
My comments are in jest Q.
I know, I know, this wasn’t directed at you. I just find it amusing our “betters” in the Acela corridor (who likely live in 100% WASP gated communities) love to slice and dice the populace into easily digestible groups without any real knowledge of the people they are slicing and dicing. I have universal love and understanding to all people… unless you’re Italian, then fuck you.
(j/k)
Good luck this week. Try not to shoot Florida man.
I’ll likely be hosting my South Florida in laws, so I’ll be too busy to go out and get shot.
Two Florida Men enter, one Florida Man leaves?
I think I saw that movie. Wasn’t Jenna Jameson in it?
Well my FIL is Guatemalan, so I have no idea how this is going to shake out.
Holy fuck I can see why the comics industry is collapsing.
I just can’t wrap my brain around the idea that anyone would think this is good. As I said before, even if you take out all the social justice bullshit, everything else is just pure garbage. I mean, say what you will about Soviet propaganda, at least they produced some decent art and a few classics.
State employee forgets he’s a state employee and thinks his position entitles him to speak on matters unrelated to running an educational institution. The pants shitting is enormous over DACA. Good. Fuckers have been flouting the (idiotic) laws for far too long. Latest was illegals get in-state tuition and state scholarships. No, if they’re not citizens, there’s already a category for them- it’s international student rate. Pay up or GTFO.
Worthless fucker has been pushing building renamings too. Wiping over long standing building named for a celebrated coach because he didn’t recruit black players in the 1950’s (even though his teams had both the first walk on and first recruited black players of any sport at the school) and another named for the surrounding county and it’s citizens that founded the predecessor college because the county itself was name for a mid-1800s senator from Missouri (Thomas Hart Benton, a one time slave owner, came to oppose slavery even at the cost of his own political career).
Infuriating.
illegals get taxpayer-subsidized in-state tuition and state scholarships.
Now its infuriating.
Since you have to be a citizen of legal resident to use FAFSA, the state has created their own version:
That’s right. If you’re a legal Oregon citizen or resident, you can’t use the state form. I bet the state form also doesn’t ask if you’ve complied with Selective Service registration either (SLD here).
Wow, that is some hardcore bullshit.
I’m theoretically for gentler treatment for kids who came over while under a certain age (you shouldn’t be held accountable for the crimes of your parents), but the actual DACA EO and the process of applying is so freaking corrupt. When I did some volunteering in a DACA clinic (it was not voluntary), the number of stolen SS numbers was astounding. The really concerning part was that the clinic was pressuring the volunteers to lie on the forms and say that there was no SS fraud, even when there was.
Just like everything else the left touches, the little nugget of truth or righteousness is covered in a metric fuckton of graft, evil, and corruption.
Side question: how can volunteering be involuntary?
He was voluntold.
When it’s tied to receiving employment. Legal departments love sending their interns out to do pro bono volunteering during their internships. Technically, I could’ve said “no,” and probably still would’ve gotten an offer, but why poke the bear?
That sucks.
When I did some volunteering in a DACA clinic (it was not voluntary), the number of stolen SS numbers was astounding.
No. Kidding. I think just about every illegal who is in country for any length of time and isn’t getting day jobs in front of Home Depot commits identity fraud.
Back in the day, ICE would simply refuse to take calls from hospitals, who can (and do) identify an assload of illegals. Post-HIPAA, I’m not sure we can even call ICE with a suspected illegal/identity fraudster. We are allowed to disclose “crime on the premises” of a hospital, but I don’t know that using someone else’s SocSec to check in qualifies as a crime on our premises.
Going back a number of years, I knew somebody who worked at Trek in Wisconsin. Apparently, they had dozens of employees that somehow only had a few SocSec numbers between them.

The best Trump based derp I could find today…
These people have to be Trump plants.
Want more Trump? Their words say no, but their actions scream YES YES YES!
HAHAHAHA!
That’s great stuff. Keep pushing those narratives.
May have already been linked at some point in the past, but still funny.

‘Mexico will welcome migrants who opt to return to Mexico with “open arms”‘
http://news.trust.org/item/20170905182757-8jhet
Well many of them are Mexican citizens, so this doesn’t really come off as that altruistic.
Standard propaganda from any regime, make yourself look better.
Of course the Mexican government will continue publishing pamphlets on how to get over the border illegally and having coyotes mysteriously receive light sentences.
I only hope that having less of a release valve on lower class discontent will force some changes in the Mexican kleptocracy.
I watched that razorfist video where he claims that forcing the mexicans to stay in mexico in order to force a civil is the right thing to do, and while that makes logical sense the idea of forcing a civil on an impoverished and disarmed populace leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
And I just noticed I somehow forgot to type ‘war’ after civil both times.
Mexico is a borderline failed state, anyway, what with the narcos and endemic corruption. Borderline failed states either (a) reform or (b) descend into civil war. They are more likely to reform if their release valve is tightened down, but a Mexican civil war would have many fathers.
Mexico has exactly zero justifications as to why it is a shithole. They have massive geographical and mineral advantages that should have them on par with the U.S. and Canada in terms of standards of living.
If the U.S. wants to help, ending the drug war would at least help to eliminate one of their problems, the drug gangs. But what overwhelmingly needs to happen is that the political sphere of Mexico needs to change, particularly by combating corruption, sticking it to the cronies and reforming/deregulating their economy. That doesn’t happen if they can just chase the plebs out. The end scenario, as it currently stands, is a still broken Mexico and millions of illegals living in near poverty conditions in the U.S. That’s not a good outcome for anyone.
Zero _geographical_ reasons. Mexico is culturally and politically Bolivarian at heart, unlike the US and Canada.
And almost half the population here wants to take us down that road.
“Mexico has exactly zero justifications as to why it is a shithole. They have massive geographical and mineral advantages that should have them on par with the U.S. and Canada in terms of standards of living.”
So does Brazil, even more so than Mexico. It really doesn’t matter once you’ve let leftists into power. They can, and will, ruin anything, it’s only a matter of time.
“I only hope that having less of a release valve on lower class discontent will force some changes in the Mexican kleptocracy.”
I’ve been saying this for years. Illegal immigration is great for the ruling class of Mexico and it may provide some short term benefits to the citizenry at large, but it ultimately hurts the country since it is such a release valve. Mexico would have had to reform its economy and do better stomping out corruption long ago if the poorest most shit on parts of society didn’t have such an easy option to take off.
Thus ensuring Sean Spicier will continue as planned!

Before getting back to work, just want to say I think this is the best one yet, BP! Keep up the good work.
“Before getting back to work”
Pffft. You’re not fooling anyone.
TY, TEE. Also, as mentioned above, I promise more Conchitas (and others) in future vols.
Im at work, so…
Take Care and be safe, Vhyrus!
Good luck!
“Im at work”
Another liar!
“Work”
at work, his physical body is at his place of employment.
So, anyone else hear that Irma is now the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic? This rumor is everyone. And no one seems to be questioning it. It’s already being used to prove global warming. Only thing is, it’s not true.
Strongest hurricanes recorded to date
Standard measure is by barometric pressure and by that measure it’s Wilma. (NB: haven’t read the link yet)
You’re on the wrong page, hyp. Irma is tied for second with wind speed and it is still almost a week away from major landfall. I’m not saying this has anything to do with global warming but it’s going to be a bad one.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Atlantic_hurricane_records#Intensity
I just talked to my mom. she called her neighbor down in the Keys. He is packing his shit up and leaving tonight.
Oh, BTW, my mom’s neighbor is a Broward County Sheriff.
Wait a minute…. did I say it’s not bad, going to be bad? My point is that people are saying it’s the strongest ever recorded in the Atlantic, which is not true. At least it’s not true yet.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Irma
“Irma is also the strongest hurricane in the Atlantic basin outside the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and the easternmost Atlantic hurricane of this strength on record, surpassing David of 1979.”
A lot of qualifiers in that statement but apparently it is the strongest hurricane ever in the actual atlantic. Most storms don’t get this strong until they hit the caribbean or Gulf.
I think it’s a question of how you measure. 1-minute sustained wind speed? Highest wind gust? Barometric pressure? Radius of wind? Any way you slice it, Irma is gonna SUCK.
Barometric pressure is probably the most accurate way to measure, which means irma is not even currently in the top 10. We have a lot of water between Florida and Barbados though.
Looks like it’s going to roll right up Cuba. Fortunately they have central planning and zoning, so there won’t be any flooding. And if someone does manage to get hurt, the best free healthcare in the world should have them back up in no time.
No matter what happens, there will be a lot of broken windows in Cuba.
Their economy will skyrocket!
Will we even be able to tell the difference before and after? I guess we can look at the Presidential palace…
The dilapidated ghettos will be wetter?
Everywhere I’m seeing people saying it’s the strongest, they’re talking about sustained winds. Which would still make it tied for 2nd, a multi-way tie.
I only heard it’s a CAT 5.
So, anyone else hear that Irma is now the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic?
I’ve heard this repeatedly but it’s always followed by a *pause, hurried whisper* “outside the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico”.
It’s not really clear to me what the significance of this is other than it’s a powerful hurricane that’s going to cause a lot of destruction in the Caribbean and likely Florida.
Hurricanes usually only get this strong once they reach the warmer waters of the gulf. The fact that it is at gulf strength and has not made it to the gulf is actually rather terrifying.
Yeah, that is crazy. I’m happy to be up here in safe MD at the moment.
LOL. You know it’s going straight north once it hits Florida, right?
No, I don’t know that. Maybe, we’ll see. But the weather forecast looking not scary at all, next 10 days. I do remember when the last one buzzed by us though. It was headed straight at the mid-atlantic, when at the last moment it made an almost 90 degree turn and fucked up New Jersey.
I remember that. I think I was living in MD at the time but it scared the fuck out of me. It was going to go right up the damn Chesapeake.
I actually left, lol. Headed inland. Then when I saw what happened the next day I headed back. Not even any downed branches. My neighbors were standing out on their porch and it was perfectly calm, not even rain.
Let’s say it does go right up the Chesapeake. We’ll get downed branches, lots of blowing debris, but flooding won’t be much of an issue unless you’re right up on the water. Downtown Annapolis around the harbor will flood, but it always floods. Shit, across the creek Fifth St. floods most high tides. I think worst case scenario we’ll lose power for a while like we did the last time we got a good hurricane, maybe there will be localized storm damage, but nothing to worry about in the least unless you own a boat that’s currently in the water.
There’s a good chance it will head directly over me, though by then it will be nothing like what will hit Florida.
Still, it’s not a good time to have a leaky roof and a small exterior wall that’s nearly fallen over from old (and unknown) termite damage. I’ve had both fixed this week in preparation and even installed a 4 x 4 bolted into the concrete slab for the corner post on the wall. It’s overkill but might as well since it had to be rebuilt.
The significance is people crowing about it being the strongest ever, which vindicates Al Gore and company in that hurricanes are getting stronger. But there was one on Labor Day 1935 with sustained winds of 185mph.
Look, now is not the time for petty politics. First, we need to really jack up the level of panic to ram through some legislation and government funding. Then, we need various government agencies to get in there and fuck everything up so that we can blame Trump and Austerity to support FUTURE money grabs. THEN maybe we can get around to your petty little partisan bickering.
As long as it involves gun control, I’m on board.
If Hillary won, this would have never happened.
Here you go.
Not just guns and ammo, ANYTHING YOU HAVE. “Hey nice jug of gas. YOINK! Oh, you got bottled water? THANKS BITCH!”
Wow. Just wow. Doesn’t the second amendment apply to protectorates/colonies?
Good grief.
The internet was right, they really are beyond parody.
That’s like a wet dream to Democrat politicians. I bet they’re all fapping right now thinking about such an opportunity.
Will this be the moment where they can see ‘SEE?! COMMUNISM DOES WORK!’
It’s time for some witty cartoons about Florida rednecks floating around on rafts.
I thought I might find one ahead of time, but no luck; however, searching for “Florida redneck flood cartoon” brought me this hilarious takedown of Nazis.
I’m waiting for the Charlie Hebdo-esque political cartoon that just has a bunch of Southerners in coffins with the caption.
“Fuck you. We hate you. G-d hates you. You deserve to die for your political opinions.”
It would be honest and oh so funny!
They still cannot be quite that honest, but they’re getting there.
It would be honest and oh so funny!
Might be a little funny if a troll created it and passed it off as coming from the New Yorker.
BH: Not what you specifically mentioned, but the best I could do on a short time-frame
Well gun control, obviously that’s a no-brainer. Can’t have the plebs defending *themselves* from looters, they might get the wrong idea.
“they might get the wrong idea”
You meant that their property actually belongs to them and self defense is a right?
Kurt Eichenwald, hurricane savant.
He’s some sort of scientician!
He’s probably just repeating what one of his hentai waifus told him.
Ha! You beat me to it. He’ll never be able to live this down…
He sees hurricanes when he looks at hentai tits.
I put Kurth Eichenwald in the same category as Sally Kohn — people who have somehow figured out that they can achieve minor celebrity status through persistent spouting of completely inane nonsense. Most of the time I figure it’s a schtick – they can’t REALLY be this stupid.
(narrator voice: they were really that stupid, and more)
I think they are both products of an outreach program by big media at homes for the mentally unfit.
I think this is the correct read.
its half an act. they’re gadflies.
Half act, half …. wit?
Question for Sharpshooter (off topic, but what the hell):
Trump keeps going on and on about “fixing” the VA. What has he done? What needs to be done? If you were king, what would you do? I’ve actually been wondering about you writing a guest article since you have the inside story.
I did write up a couple articles going over eligibility and how the primary care, scheduling and consult management process works. They were more information pieces, food for thought, name your cliché.
The biggest thing since Trump became president is this: VA Choice & Accountability Act
This funded the Choice program for another year or until the funds run out. It also made it easier to fire people. This was brought to light by an employee at the VA in Houston watching porn at work–in front of patients . SecVA Shulkin explained to congress they did indeed attempt to fire the employee for but the AFGE rules allowed the employee to remain on the payroll for an additional 30 days so that he may file an appeal. He (I’m assuming) no longer works here but should’ve been shown the door immediately. Finally, the hiring freeze forced the VA to prioritize it’s hiring, even if it did impact me directly, was a good thing because it left a lot of services asking how badly they needed people to do certain tasks. Many of these positions were eliminated.
King for a day…is money an object? Does this have to be a truly libertarian solution or can I go with baby steps?
– Buy out the remaining years to retirement for any employee with greater than 20 year’s service; I would do it in tiers unless the employee can prove they have been attempting to advance. One thing that I cannot stand are the midlevel employees who have been in the same position since the Clinton administration. Every time you try to improve something its, “But we’ve always done it this way” or “so you are telling me I’ve been doing this wrong for the last 13 years?” Quite frankly, its not always people at the top that suck; typically they get to that position on some amount of merit. People in the middle on the other hand, don’t go anywhere and if they suck, their nonperformance affects everyone else.
– Reduce AFGE’s influence over personnel actions–ideally eliminate it all together. Supervisors should not have to worry about an employee running to AFGE if they write up an honest performance review. Bad employees should be removed instead of promoting to their level of incompetence.
– Eliminate the VISNs. In this day of near instant communication, there is no need for a regionalized layer of bureaucracy. Facilities can communicate with central office directly, and often do. This also eliminates no fewer than 22 SES positions, and the staff of around 40 or more to support them.
– Update the EHR. I understand why it still runs on DOS, but it hasn’t stopped anyone else in nearly every industry from updating their computer systems.
– Consult Management and scheduling should be the same everywhere. I should be able to take an employee out of one VA, plug them into another with little change in overall productivity.
– Either shift Vets eligible for Medicare or make the Medicare eligible Vets go to the VA. Ideally, they pick one and they stay there. The mix and matching can get confusing because the VA was designed to be the primary provider and has it’s doctors make their decisions based on that principle. Which means in many circumstances they execute their plan of care on incomplete information.
– Most Vets just go here for free medications. Make any physicians prescription fillable by VA pharmacies if it complies with the VA formulary.
This is more fodder for discussion, and I haven’t fully thought this one out yet: Instead of funding based on the VERA allocations (explained in my previous articles) make VA services payable by Medicare since the private sector is paid by an overwhelming percentage by Medicare/Medicaid. Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but its around 60% of all healthcare expenditures. Instead, Vets eligible for VHA services receive a Medicare card and go where they want. Does the VA suck in your area? Go somewhere else that accepts Medicare. Enough Vets making that choice means the local VA would receive less funding. This could then be used as rationale to close that VA and send personnel/resources to VAs that are competing with the private sector in their area. I would also add, Non Service Connected treatment be subject to Medicare’s copay as well, to avoid moral hazard.
I’d also add in reforming Medicare’s fee schedule to be fluid with the local market, but that probably has less of a chance to pass than anything I posted here.
Can you submit those directly via email or suggestion to the new Sec VA? It helps to have something solid to pass up the chain.
I had a nice policy modification plan that made it up to a Navy Reserve Atlantic 1 star a few months ago – then it got booted because the money for the changes would have to come from the active Navy. Now I’m trying to find an email address/suggestion line for the new SecNav since he seems to have his head screwed on straight.
I loved the wrong clip bit.
Excellent installment!
