Sad news in the world of sports, as retired pitcher Roy Halliday died in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday. Dude was a hell of a pitcher: two Cy Young Awards, a no-hitter in the post season, racked up over 200 wins. He was 40 years old. What a shame.
LiAngelo Ball, son of LaVarr Ball and brother of Lonzo Ball, and a couple of his UCLA teammates got into trouble while in China due to their sticky fingers. It was the first time in his entire life that LaVarr was unavailable for comment.
The international break starts today for soccer. But no qualifiers until tomorrow.
The Blues topped the Devils. The Caps fell to the Sabres. The Pens beat the woeful Coyotes. Oilers greased the Isles. Hurricanes destroy Florida. Press over Blue Jackets. Montreal beats Army, er Las Vegas. Vancouver tops Calgary. And last but not least, the Kings knock off the Mighty Ducks in the SoCal derby.
That’s all for sports. Here comes…the links!
Winter is coming. I hope the soldiers we have manning the wall keep those flappy-headed white walkers out.
Trump gives speech to South Korean assembly. Tells the Norks to get their shit together. SoKos give him multiple standing ovations as life continues as normal in Seoul.
Looks like the left have finally found that smoking gun they were looking for. Surely Trump can’t survive this horrible scandal. Thank you serious news media. I’m sure this will get all that credibility back you’ve been losing. (You probably should avoid the comments, by the way.)
An eye-opening expose on Little Saigon. I knew the Vietnamese loved their coffee. Now I think many of you will love it too.
Suck it, Dallas-Ft Worth area. Houston now gets everything first!
And as you are all probably aware, Democrats across the country are rejoicing today after they destroyed the Republicans in off-year elections. I mean they kicked their asses. 2018 ought to be a wild ride for the midterms. I, for one, can’t wait for the civil, well-reasoned political discourse that’s sure to follow on the heels of the 2016 and now 2017 shitshows.
I got something’ for your punk asses.
I’m off to Galveston this morning. Doing a nice big deal there. And I didn’t want to say anything until I had it really going, but I think I can now: business is doing well. I have been selling a lot of equipment and doing some consulting. But a couple weeks ago, I signed a deal to do my first auction. Its an estate deal where there was a construction company involved. And after getting that done, I asked another auction company if they wanted to jump onboard with me and partner on the deal. Since then, we’ve blown it up to about $600,000. After today, it should be at $800,000 going across the ramp and we hope to get it well over $1M by sale day, which is December 5th. Needless to say, I’m extremely nervous about the whole thing, what with this being the first sale under my banner and with me being the auctioneer of record (as well as the guy calling all the action for the first time on equipment this expensive). Its really a big deal to me, having just opened my business in March. Anyway, that’s part of the reason for such early links lately. Not sure how much that will continue, so don’t always expect them. But anyway, there’s a little explanation.
Have a great day, friends.
Gotta get up early to get the first!
I got up early and got lucky.
Here in God’s country, we got about 8 inches of snow last weekend. Makes it easier to track the flappy-heads if they do sneak across.
Can’t wait for this hack! I mean, I’m sure nothing can go wrong with the idea. On the other hand, this may not be stupid. It may be a brilliant idea on the part of a programmer who really likes to look at naked Aussies.
Assuming that it works the way FB claims it will there won’t be a meaningful hack because FB won’t be storing the pictures. Instead they will convert the image into a digital signature (a hash of the picture) and then delete the actual picture. The way that works is you run the image through an algorithm and it produces a seemingly random alpha-numeric string. Only that exact image run through the algorithm would produce that alpha numeric string and you would have to have access to the entire algorithm to reproduce the image from the hash (and that might not even be possible) . Since the only thing stored is the Hashes there is nothing to “hack” and they then just need to compare the hashes to the hash generated for any image uploaded to the site.
That said this will do incredibly little to stop revenge porn and is trivially easy to get around. Here is a list of some of the problems with the solution…
1) It requires that the person in the image actually have the image in their possession. So if you snapped the pic an sent it and then saved it on your device great. But if another party took the picture and didn’t give you a copy or you deleted it after you sent it then too bad you can’t block it
2) If you modify the image in any way, change the color pallette, crop it, sharpen it, or really modify it in any way using something like photoshop, even something so trivial as changing the color of a single pixel then the image will generate a different hash and not be caught by FB’s filters.
3) It doesn’t just stop revenge porn. You could upload ANY image, say for example copying an image off of CNN’s front page which would then at least temporarily block that image from appearing on CNN’s FB page
Looks like the left have finally found that smoking gun they were looking for.
Next scandal: trips to multiple McDs to find a working ice cream machine
2 Scoops!
No scoops at McDs. Just twist.
WHAT POTUS WANTS, POTUS GETS!
Who you callin’ a twist?!
Oliver?
Noticed from the article that he likes the burgers but not the fries? Why not? I’ll tell ya’. Because they’re FRENCH fries.
And they are one of the better fast food fries at that.
FREEDOM Fries.
The Burger King shake machine always seems to be down – at least on the very, very rare occasions I eat there.
Good luck with the auction, Sloopy! Very exciting. I’m sure you’ll do a great job.
If he’s not auctioning off children to work in the mines, then it’s not a true libertarian auction.
That’s true. But at least is is very capitalist and free-market. A good start.
His orphans have CDLs and are licensed for heavy equipment. Really increases their value at the auction.
Noooo
The minute you let them acquire actual skills they start to get uppity because they know they are too valuable to just be disposed of. That is why the Monocle polishing mines are so perfect for them
C’mon Dude, explosive shock collars.
Sloopy’s orphan training facility.
Good luck Ken. Hope demand is high and bidders are stupid.
Maybe not stupid….but let us say, susceptible to being swept up in the enthusiasm of the moment.
I’ve been to a lot of auctions. It’s always a hoot when some guy figures out he just paid more than the new price for a used piece of equipment.
I was at an auction once where three vintage ’40-’50’s Coca-Cola coolers were sold. There was also a replica of a 30’s cooler. Two idiots bid each other up on the replica. The hammer dropped at about $450. The woman who won was so happy she was almost squealing. About 20 minutes later a guy walked up to her and asked he if she knew it was a modern replica. After about 30 mins of begging the auctioneers to take it back, she left the auction with her new-old cooler and tears streaming down her face.
There goes her audition for American Pickers.
Seconded (or whatever number we’re up to).
Welp, my track record of having my ballto be the inverse of the people elected to public office in the state continues unabated.
In different news, There will be no constitutional convention, but the amendment to let elected officals’ pensions be taken away when they get convicted of corruption is going forward.
Me too. No Libertarians on ballot so I voted mostly GOP in local races with one exception. All the GOP got creamed, and the one Democrat I voted for (a friend who was an incumbent) also lost.
So, I’m supposed to be screaming at the sky and wailing uncontrollably this morning because people I don’t like win elections, right? That’s the way it’s done these days?
People I don’t like win elections all the time. Living in a deep blue state has inured me to losses at the ballot box.
What’s the point of bawling about it?
How else would you hashtag Resist, bro? Now put on your penis hat and get out there and start wailing at the sky.
I have more dignity than that.
I think there’s a step where we make knitted genitalia to put on our heads. Oh, and we need to make sure we use social media a great deal more so everyone can enjoy our autistic screeching.
Don’t forget rioting in the cities that also voted for the candidates we support.
We should also spend some time persuading others by calling them Nazis for voting for someone different from us. That’s sure to win their hearts and minds!
We should also have our failed candidates complain about how they lost for at least a year , that’ll really win the affection of the masses.
Being a libertarian in Illinois – this is easy….my preferred candidates never win.
I thought you were in Switzerland, I feel so lied to.
I am a servant of the Swiss…not a resident. I toil for one of their multinationals.
It is on my radar as a fall back place to live.
Right. And start threatening to move.
Actually, that one may be worth considering.
I think there’s a step where we make knitted genitalia to put on our heads.
Not for nothing, but knitting my genitalia with some of these peoples heads are all they’re good for.
bouncy rubbery genitalia.
RHEEEEEEEEE!
Am I doing this right?
Anyway, my sleep cycle is still on greatest time zone ever and is resistant to transitioning to winter hates you time, so I’m making waffles.
mmmm…waffles.
Yes. Yes, you are doing that right.
Must be a James fan. Looks like she only comes when she’s on top.
she? are you sure about that?
Problem for us is all the people who win elections are people we don’t like no matter who wins.
Mini Review of “Assassin’s Creed: Origins” – On the whole it feels like a return to form, going back to ideas that worked and shedding a lot of the cruft mechanics from recent entries. The combat system doesn’t feel as bad as early reports made it out to be, but the real problem is the default key mappings. Even during the last mission of the game I was still hitting ‘E’ to try to drop down out of habit when his has been moved to ‘C’ to join crouch. The choice of ‘C’ for crouch is also a disaster waiting to happen. ‘X’ is autorun and ‘V’ switches perspectives to your pet eagle, so if you miss the key when trying to hide, you’re in trouble. I played through the whole game without remapping to see if it got better in terms of being intuitive. It didn’t, it just fought against muscle memory as I kept hitting space for free running when it had been moved over to Alt so space could be given to dodge.
Plot-wise, it’s basic Assassin’s Creed. The biggest twist was actually a non-twist. I was convinced early on that a particular character was lying about events when they were introduced and that there would be an “unexpected but inevitable betrayal” by said character that never came. No new grounds on storytelling.
The environments are spectacular, as are some of the setpieces, but the character facial animations are not all that well synched. The biggest negative is the background voice acting. Someone decided “hey lets have the background characters chattering in Greek and Egyptian” and then ended up with a lot of recordings of people stumbling through pronouncing words they had no clue what they sounded like.
I’m with you on the second and third paragraphs (I’m assuming the default key mapping issues are because you are on the PC – I’m on the Xbox One and don’t have any issues with the controls, although the learning curve for combat was a little higher than I expected). The background chatter is definitely the worst part – it’s so repetitive that I could probably learn exactly what they are saying. All the voices sound the same, too.
But overall, I am loving this game; probably my favorite AC game since Black Flag.
So, have either of you noticed any optimization issues, rubber-banding, stuff like that? In the Steam forums (which are of course filled with reasonable, intelligent people who think logically and never shriek their ‘tardation to the skies) I keep seeing people having issues where their FPS plummets in cities all of a sudden, where it hadn’t previously, as well as some general degradation of graphics quality. I’m on a i5 4690k with 12mb of RAM and two GTX 970s.
Also, what’s the deal with the combat now? I read that it’s “action RPG-style” which apparently means it’s like games like Borderlands or The Division or Nier: Automata where you’re doing numeric amounts of damage to enemies that can take a certain amount of damage based on their level? That seems like it would be a poor fit for the series given how central stealth kills are to the gameplay. Or were, at least.
It is a CPU hog. For whatever reason it loves to take up more processor cycles than it strictly needs. I did not see any graphical artfacts or memory issues, I’m running 16gb ram, and one GTX980 I forget the exact processor model in my rig, but it’s a few years old.
As for gameplay, stealth is still king, as you can take out most enemies from hiding, and it is far simpler if you can manage it. I suppose the attempt was to emulate the way fights go in Dark Souls (except the constant dying) You can turn off the numeric damage indicators, but it does use that – and a level-based system in terms of non-stealth combat. It’s not as bad as I’d feared.
Thanks for sharing the comments, I’m still on the fence about this one — which means probably wait 12 months until I can pick it up at a deep discount.
I always thought, and still do, that the basic recipe of AC games is kind of interesting. To me, it’s really virtual historic tourism — the gorgeous environments are the real draw. The gameplay just gives you a good excuse to spend time in the environments. Which means, I’m not all that fussed about the mechanics as long as they aren’t so bad that they really get in the way. I’m not really that aware of the plots, except that the whole modern-day “abstergo” meta-setting is annoyingly distracting and you should be able to completely opt out of that bit.
Yeah, the modern-day stuff is tedious. I loved the Ezio games because of the setting and I’d get annoyed as hell when I’d get dumped out into the stupid office complex or the cave or wherever.
I still have Syndicate to play. I wait until the games get down to $10-$20 on Steam, and usually all the bugs are worked out by then to.
I loved Syndicate, I would call it tied for first with Black Flag (not having played Origins yet).
Holding out for games to hit the steam bargain bin is an excellent strategy – if you can manage to do it long enough, then you eventually have a steady supply of excellent games at dirt cheap prices that not only are fully debugged, but you can also pick up the “GOTY version” with all the DLC and whatnot.
I can usually only manage to hold out until they hit 50% off, then my resolve breaks — sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the title.
It was the first time in his entire life that LaVarr was unavailable for comment.

Women say ex-Playboy editor assaulted them
Sounds like what I’d expect from someone claiming to be a ‘male feminist’.
It’s either that or a penchant for being pegged and humiliated.
Them “male feminists” sure do seem to be rapey.
STEVE SMITH OMNIRAPIST!
STEVE SMITH MALEST OF ALL FEMINISTS
Says something about “feminism” that so many of the men who claim the label like to abuse women. Could be that they’re liars, but maybe they actually are feminists, and feminism is not about empowering women, but subjecting them to thought reform techniques so that women can be used by the powerful or those seeking to become powerful. In that case, if you’re already exploiting them in every other way, why not use them sexually too?
If you’ve spent a significant amount of time around somebody that is completely butthurt about the Trump election last year, you will know that they never shut the fuck about it. That’s why I speculate the chattering classes and bureaucrats came out in force in the northern districts especially for the VA election yesterday.
I suspect the LV and TX shootings played a role too, but to a lesser degree.
I do think that it’s a one-off and not indicative of the national tide turning.
Virginia went for Hillary by a 6 point margin, and is a deep blue state, yet the Democrats came within a whisker of losing the governorship. That doesn’t look much like a turning tide.
A 9% differential is a whisker? What am I missing?
Eh, that’s not all of it. Seats in the House flipped all over the state.
This is the next step in Virginia ‘s evolution into just another full-on eastern prog state.
Trade a State of Jefferson for a South Virginia?
SHUT UP
*covers ears, runs out of room*
DC has ensured this. It’s like a demonic portal that pumps of never ending supply of D’s into VA.
What happens moving forward? I would hope the strongly conservative rural areas can offset the prog influence. Something like keeping our strong pro 2nd A laws combined with legalizing drugs. I doubt this best case scenario is going to happen. I’m more concerned about the long term, 30 or 40 years from now. Will we have NJ style property taxes combined with NYC gun control?
Undoubtedly. I’m pretty sure ill
Gah….pretty sure I’ll be moving away within 5 years
This wouldn’t be a surprise. My uncle and Aunt plan on getting out of Henrico area when they retire, and living near my parents in Western NC. The entire state has moved leftward slowly but surely, and will likely be progtopia by the time my other aunt and uncle (in NOVA) retire in 25 years.
I’m not sure NC would be much better. SC maybe.
For now… We are probably 10-15 years behind NC at this point with all the people retiring here from the NE. Maybe they will die before they fuck it up too much but we also have enclaves of progressive idiocy in places like Charleston and Columbia.
How many Glibs went to private/boarding school in VA? Incidentally, my FB is full of people I went to school thanking VA for stopping Trump yesterday.
Well, you and I did. I think Ken did too?
Try Wyoming.
Too far. I’ve lived so far from my family that I only see them every few years, and I hated it.
Will NC be enough of a bulwark against the DC extrusion or will they suffer the California syndrome as Progs move outward when they fuck up VA?
NC is already suffering California Syndrome from all the people moving down here from NY/NJ/CT/etc. for the past 25 years. It’s most obvious in the cities, but small coastal towns are getting really bad (look at the political goings-on in Boiling Springs Lakes or Carolina Shores, two retired yankee strongholds in Brunswick County, on the southeastern coast).
There’s a reason I escaped to the swamps in the next county over where no one retires because this area is “icky” (poor, mostly farmers, and not right on the water, and far enough away that no one buys the “minutes from the beach” sales pitch). Cheap, and the politics are your typical southern good ol’ boy setup instead of proggy authoritarian. But Raleigh likes to screw things up for the whole state.
Too bad. NC is on my list as a possible escape state.
New Jersey being rightly disgusted with Governor Lardass and federal beaurocrats and those reliant on them voting in Virginia had to have a lot to do with it, no?
I just figured Govzilla ate all his supporters.
Christie is just a east coast Republican, IOW Democrat lite.
Probably the only time Christie has ever been referred to as lite.
From the AP coverage, this comes across as, um, tacky?
“A former Virginia news anchor whose journalist girlfriend was fatally shot during a live broadcast in 2015 has defeated a Republican incumbent for a seat in the statehouse.
Chris Hurst was living with fellow journalist Alison Parker when she and a cameraman were killed by a former co-worker while reporting for WDBJ-TV.
After the shooting, Hurst became the public face of the grieving Roanoke station. That brought him national attention and a large social media following. The Pennsylvania native quit his TV job and moved to Blacksburg to run for a House seat.”
That shooting happened right by me. Her failed politician father and boyfriend are frothing progs who stood on her dead body to promote their gun control agenda. They were well funded by Bloomberg and other gun grabbing groups. Progs from over 2 dozen states poured money into his campaign.
God damn that is a lot of cheddar for a State level lower house race.
However, despite his victory in the wake of the tragedy, Hurst is not planning to try to push legislation to ban guns, according to the New York Daily News.
“I have no intention of trying to ban or prohibit any type of class of weapon,” he said. “I would never want to legislate someone’s culture or their way of life. But I do think that there is work that we could do through a gun violence protective order to reasonably — for a set amount of time — remove a gun from a dangerous situation.
but damned if he won’t vote for somebody else’s legislation to ban guns. he knows the mob is fickle.
A Democrat winning in a deep blue state that went for Hillary by a double digit margin sends a message to Trump? I guess so, if the message is “We’re still socialist idiots dominated by public employee unions and parasites looking for more free shit”.
From the Red Star:
Virginia rejects ‘Trumpism’ as Dems score major victories
I count 16 mentions of Trump in a pretty short article. He’s still in their heads.
Like I say above, they just won’t shut the fuck up about him. I work with a laboratory technician that just will not shut up about Trump, and is constantly reading his Twitter feed to get his information.
Virginia – gaze upon New Jersey and see your future as the cancerous tumor that is DC consumes you from the north.
40 years ago, NJ was a free state with no income tax.
Virginia is totally fucking themselves over. But you really cannot blame people in the outlying areas, which are still mostly red. It’s just NOVA, which will eventually turn VA into DC South.
Eventually? It’s been happening for years already.
urban areas fuck the rural areas on taxes, guns, and environmental regulations. VA will eventually be no different than NJ, NY, et al.
40 years ago, NJ was a free state with no income tax.
Really? My stepdad is from NJ and every time I go there I can’t help but wonder what drove people there in the first place. It’s not the worst place on Earth by a long shot but there had to be something besides being a collection of suburbs for NYC and Philly.
NJ didn’t have an income tax until 1976. It used to be a nice tax have for people fleeing NY taxes. Unfortunately they brought their retarded voting habits.

Any mention of McDonald’s probably results in 1/3rd of people saying to themselves, “damn, I need some fries”, regardless of the context.

Political posturing at its finest.
It is already illegal with the exception of law enforcement personnel. Isnt that nifty that cops get a pass on domestic violence convictions and gun purchases?
No, they don’t. Lautenberg Amendment applies equally to law enforcement and service members, on and off duty. Did some agency weasel around the words possess? Because it’s grounds for getting your certification revoked around here. There was one guy in our company who got fucked by that with a past misdemeanor DV conviction. Because DV has never been used itself as weapon in a nasty breakup. And a ban on ex post facto laws means diddly squat with the Lautenberg Amendment.

“and offer local governments another form of revenue.” The gas tax here just went up another 12¢, and now these greedy fucks want to tax muh shrooms as well.
That’s why I don’t like the way legalization has been going in many plaves. One of the main benefits of legalization is to get rid of the black market. The black market for drugs is violent amd crime ridden. When the government legalizes, but also taxes and regulated drugs to death, that leaves room for the black market to still operate.

Rand Paul is not a perfect neighbor, says community developer.
A Republican is assaulted so USA today’s natural instinct is to run a hit piece on the senator in an attempt to justify the assault.
There are few things short of violence on his part that would justify taking a bat to the ribs.
Huh, GQ (I think) had a similar article. Sounds like this is the line they’re going to run with.
Yes, I posted it last night because it gave the author a chance to bash libertarians:
“This is, at its core, the problem with libertarianism. Libertarians don’t want to follow the rules that we as a society have agreed upon, because they feel those rules step on their freedoms.”
He was being a little cunt. I don’t see how this tiff has anything to do with libertarianism. Happens all the time among, you know, just plain uncooperative people.
https://www.gq.com/story/rand-paul-bad-neighbor?mbid=social_facebook
Libertarians don’t want to follow the rules that we as a society have agreed to impose upon them by force,
To the point, to be sure. If you don’t like neighbors attacking you and breaking your ribs, you should start thinking like a good leftist.
There are articles from almost all lefty news outlets, which is like all of them, claiming that it was because of a feud over landscaping. However, Paul and people close to him have said that the two of them have virtually no contact at all, let alone a feud. I think I’ll take Paul’s word over the leftist media. But what is going on is that, as you’re pointing out, they’re trying to minimize it as much as possible. I think it’s likely politically motivated. Another unhinged leftist.
LOL. Paul’s in an HOA with 13 pages of regulations and the asshole neighbor tackled him over lawn clippings.
I don’t miss being in an HOA.
Home Owners’ Associations are evil.
No shit. I warned my son before he bought a house in one of those. He hand waived my concerns away. That was two years ago. He gets it now. He is hunting for a place not in an HOA.
Which begs the question: Shouldn’t Paul have known better?
Yes, but the shittyness of your HOA is related to who is on the Board. I’m on the Board of mine and we are pretty laid back and as long as people maintain their yard and pay their assessments we do not do much enforcement wise. Whenever we get complaints from owners about other owners one of us will go out an talk to the people and figure something out.
This. When I moved in there were some mini-Hitlers on the board. So we flipped the board and it’s been fine for the last 10 years.
‘Hi. I’m RBS. This is my brother Darryl and this is my other brother Darryl. Nice messy yard you got there. Got any kids? Because says here you don’t have any so what’s with the mess? Latte?’
Same. I’m the president of my condo association (unelected, much like Ford), and things are quiet. It helps to have decent occupants, of course. HOAs suck when petty tyrants are in charge and owners aren’t motivated enough to vote them out.
That’s what I’m hoping to do with ours. We moved about two months ago. Love the area, the neighborhood, and our house. Tried to avoid HOAs. Alas, every area we liked had one.
The HOA fees were a bit higher than what was listed. We just got a notification that the fees are going up in January. I’m skeptical the hike is warranted, and want to get on the board so I can see the budget detail, and how they get bids for certain services. The community is 10 years old. Most HOA fees should decrease over time, apart from some areas affected by inflation.
That said, our neighbors seem to think the HOA is pretty good. We’ll find out more when we have to get approval to put in a covered patio.
I’ll never live in a house which has an HOA.
I feel that way too but good luck finding a new home in some areas that aren’t in a HOA.
OMG, not a strong belief in property rights!?! What a disgusting article.
Makes me dig Rand even more, though (sorry, Ken).
All things considered, why did Paul build in the development in the first place knowing there were covenants?
Meh. We have an HOA here. I consider them to be starting points for negotiation.
There’s got to be some means of freeing a property from those godawful things.
I think it’s possible that when he built, there wasn’t a HOA, and later there was. I think that does happen.
I don’t think your neighbors can force you to join an HOA that doesn’t already have its hooks into your property.
Depends. Did the developer have the restrictions* placed on the entire development but never actually formed the association or did some homeowners get together later on and decide to form an association?
* the language in the restrictions is also very important.
Doubtful in his neighborhood. When it was built it was the wealthiest subdivision in the area and the gates went up first

“The major problem was getting the house plans approved,” Skaggs said. “He wanted to actually own the property rights and build any kind of house he wanted. He didn’t end up doing that, but it was a struggle.”
What a kook.
The decadence!!!! I’m glad he got beaten up! Why does the left continue to take the trump-Nazis lead and vilify all the righteous Patriots who defend freedom from all these disgusting Republicans!
Well, we already had a Gawker offshoot blame the victim.
Steve Scaliese was asking for it, dontcha know?
Nice. This is literally right out of the WW2 Fascist Party playbook.
Holy derp, I fell down the rabbit hole.
From a different article:
Income Tax Is Great
This comment:
Does this show that high income taxes cause great economic growth? Not necessarily.
It kind of does, though.
Destroying currency that’s likely to stagnate and replacing it with dynamic spending is mathematically certain to cause the economy to grow. This isn’t new information: Rome would have collapsed in the 1st Century BCE or earlier if the not for the institution of the dole, and the Romans talked about that, a lot. Sure, there are arguments that this isn’t the optimal path to growth, but they’re mostly made by sadists, racists, libertarians, and other people who don’t get super thinkish with their economics, so can we start being bold again please? HIGH TAXES CAUSE GROWTH. HIGH SPENDING CAUSES GROWTH. LOW SPENDING CAUSES CONTRACTION AND UNEMPLOYMENT. LOW TAXES CAUSE STAGFLATION AND INEQUALITY.
I’ve been seeing this whole ‘low spending brings about the apocalypse’ shit everywhere lately. The thing is, if we are talking about business spending they are right – it’s bad. But they aren’t – it’s government spending that they want. Really only one thing to say:
Fuck you, cut spending.
Yes, curse those low taxes of, um, the 1970s.
Rome would have collapsed in the 1st Century BCE or earlier if the not for the institution of the dole
And we know this with certainty because… ?
Damn it man! I warned you it was a branch on the Gawker derp mine. That’s some dangerous shit down there.
They’ve dug too deep.
Don’t read the comments, your IQ will drop 10 points.
Lord help me, people have gotten dangerously stupid (and have lost any interest in actual debate)
Fuck HOAs. This just makes me more sympathetic to Paul.
St. Paul and Minneapolis each selected new mayors yesterday. To no one’s surprise, the crazy proggie contingent is well represented. St. Paul, though, took it a little bit further.
They went for the ‘historic’ candidate.
Dude has his work cut out for him, though.
Yes, Chris, it used to be pretty nice.
Congrats, sloop!
Hearing things about DeVos potentially resigning? Meanwhile, Sessions still hangs on.
Where are you hearing this? And what reason(s)?
It was a (TW) Salon article someone posted on Facederps.
There’s a couple other articles out there: https://news.google.com/news/search/section/q/devos/devos?hl=en&gl=US&ned=us
FAKE NEWS
Considering how the media has behaved, I’m taking any of that news with a metric ton of salt.
It’s completely made up.
Sounds like they want to start a rumor. Then once it builds journos will start asking questions about the veracity of the rumor and eventually drive her out.
TUNE IN TOKYO! TUNE IN TOKYO!
Also, congratulations on the fine business dealings!
Please, there’s already a term for those kind of places: Breastaurant.
Life in the world’s largest rape camp
Just this week, Juli Briskman, a government contractor, lost her job after a photo of her flipping off the presidential motorcade went viral. Solange, Britney Spears, Sinead O’Connor, the Dixie Chicks, Rosie O’Donnell — I struggle to think of women who lost their tempers in public and didn’t face ridicule, temporary ruin, or both. And we don’t even have to be angry to be called angry. Accusations of being an “angry black woman” chased Michelle Obama throughout her tenure at the White House, despite eight years of unflappable poise (black women suffer disproportionately under this paradigm). The decades-long smearing of Hillary Clinton as an unhinged shrew culminated one year ago today when, despite maintaining a preternatural calm throughout the most brutal campaign in living memory, she lost the election to masculinity’s apoplectic id.
Like every other feminist with a public platform, I am perpetually cast as a disapproving scold. But what’s the alternative? To approve? I do not approve.
Not only are women expected to weather sexual violence, intimate partner violence, workplace discrimination, institutional subordination, the expectation of free domestic labor, the blame for our own victimization, and all the subtler, invisible cuts that undermine us daily, we are not even allowed to be angry about it. Close your eyes and think of America.
Poor Lindy. All she wants is a hug and a pat on the back. And some heartfelt gratitude for all o’ them sammiches.
Once again they want all the privileges, and yet none of the responsibility. Anyone who did that would’ve been fired.

ps- if the woman on the bicycle really did get canned for flipping off Trumputin? I am displeased by that.
If that was the only reason that’s not good, although I suspect someone with a lack of impulse control like that might have some preexisting issues at her workplace.
^this^
Sort of. Her employment contract forbids her from posting obscene images on any social media accounts. She posted the picture on either her FB page or Twitter feed and left it there until she got canned. In addition, the company she worked for, is a defense contractor.
Remember when liberals had at least some principles (no matter how flawed their premise)? I mean, you’d never catch a liberal in the 60s or 70s going to work for a defense contractor. No chance in hell.
Haven’t you heard that they’re moving back to the center? Right between Mao and Stalin, instead of left of them both.
Haha I thought you were going in a completely different direction with that comment.
Fuck off, slaver. Woohoo. 3 day weekend.
Since the holiday falls on a saturday, I get a two-day weekend.
Wait… what holiday? What country do you guys live in?
Veterans Day on the 11th. It’s not the cause of Straffin’s weekend.
Meh, not a holiday for us in the private sector.
Not a holiday unless that picture of me flipping off the emperor goes viral.
Geez. Talk about going for low hanging fruit. The guy’s 83 and quitting soon.
She worked for a government contractor. Publicly flipping off your employer’s customer is not the way to stay employed.
I think it’s fine. Just as I would be fine if someone got fired for flipping off Obama, Bush, or Clinton. At my company, I’m held responsible for my actions. If my actions outside the company caused a good deal of negative controversy for my employer, I would be fired immediately. Just as I would do if I had an employee who demonstrated poor impulse control and ended up costing me money as a result.
So, I picked up something from this story on the Rand Paul attack:
“If there was a dispute, I do believe Rand wasn’t aware of it,” Porter said. “I have been to their house socially and for a variety of reasons for going on 20 years, I’ve never heard (Paul) mention (Boucher), good or bad.”
And there you go. For leftists, the one thing that is not okay is not noticing them. Here he was a good little progressive playing by all the HOA rules. supporting all the right policies and where does it get him? Divorced with a spotty work history. Meanwhile, there’s this Paul guy. He goes around flouting the rules thinking he owns the joint, growing pumpkins in his backyard and keeping a compost heap. And he winds up a Senator, playing golf with that f**king Tump, having a hot wife. He really should apologize and have some sympathy for the injustice of it all. It would be one thing if he even lorded it over him. But, he doesn’t even notice Boucher’s existence. Well, he’ll notice him now!
You know that’s the thought process.
Damn – I want to be neighbors with Rand Paul. We can go to the shooting range (he obviously needs to start carrying), then have a cocktail while complaining about HOAs and other petty tyrants.
I almost was, I looked at property very near him, but it was still outside his gated community.
What I don’t understand is why he bought in that neighborhood instead of going out 1 mile and buying a non-HOA lot. Sewer instead of septic tank?
What I don’t understand is why he bought in that neighborhood instead of going out 1 mile and buying a non-HOA lot.
It could be the developer just handed him the rule book at the end of closing and sort of downplayed the entire thing (“Yeah, these guys make a lot of noise and hold a bunch of meetings trying to feel important. Don’t worry too much about it.”). I’ve had a similar experience with an apartment I rented once.
Never ever believe that line of crap.
Sewer instead of septic tank?
Seriously, why pay the city for their socialist sewer system when you can handle your own shit?
https://www.google.com/maps/place/36%C2%B058'08.1%22N+86%C2%B022'05.7%22W/@36.9687536,-86.3689416,226m/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x0!8m2!3d36.968922!4d-86.368235
I am about 95% sure this is the Paul house and the one to the left is the Boucher house, for anyone wanting context.
That’s a weird plat layout.
Yes. Which I can see leading to property disputes.
That neighborhood is outside the BG city limits, so they might or might not be on sewers. The property I was looking at was in a neighborhood further east just south of Cemetary Rd, and it was not on sewer, but where I did buy is outside the city (in an entirely different part of town) but on sewer.
No cred with the Greenies for composting?
Not for a Republican.
Everything I here about this being a property dispute comes from Boucher’s lawyer claiming that his client is not a deranged lunatic.
“Senpai noticed me!”
Glad to hear about your success Ken. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Sloopy is hoping to move out of a very bad part of town and that people will stop trying to put him down.
Hang on, Sloopy!
Skaggs described Boucher as a “near-perfect” neighbor, but he said the libertarian politician is a different story.
Paul “was probably the hardest person to encourage to follow the (homeowner’s association regulations) of anyone out here because he has a strong belief in property rights,” said Skaggs, who is the former chairman of the Warren County Republican Party.
Skaggs noted the 13 pages of regulations are extensive. But even from the start of Paul’s residence in Rivergreen, Skaggs said Paul has been difficult to work with.
“The major problem was getting the house plans approved,” Skaggs said. “He wanted to actually own the property rights and build any kind of house he wanted. He didn’t end up doing that, but it was a struggle.”
What a monster. Lynch him.
You mean Skaggs, right?
Without a doubt.
Ahhh yes let’s take the president of the HOA’s word for it. I’m sure Boucher was a dick to his other non jackboot neighbors.
Anyone whose tone is “How dare someone act as though they want to actually own their own home” should be disqualified from such a role. Then HOAs will vanish for lack of participants.
Who cares? HOA infractions have private consequences. Paul could face sanction under process pig he was really so flagrant. A psychotic busybody escalated the “situation” to a public criminal matter.

Hearing about HOAs always makes me think of

Fuck- “Is there a place for this type of medication?” Yes. Yes, there is.
The best meds for chronic pain out there. If a few junkies and abusers have to check out so that people who need the pain relief can get it, sorry but too bad.
That’s not even their issue, their real issue is that they can’t stand the thought that somebody might just be using the drugs to get high. They don’t give a shit if a junkie dies.
Sad, but true. Compassion is never part of their thinking.
They’re searching for a huge crony jackpot via mandatory treatment centers that many of them and their friends will be owner of.
Neo-Puritan harpie. The cancers that Massachusetts is capable of outputting, fuck. I am so sick of hearing
about the “opioid crisis.”
I’ve read people refer to Trump as a “retarded toddler” multiple times this week. Well, that’s certainly one way of looking at it.
I think the better way to look at it, however, is that Hillary Clinton was defeated by a retarded toddler.
Great name for a band.
Did you demand they publicly apologize for micro-aggressing the developmentally disabled?
Congratulations Sloopy. As a fellow self-employed I know what its like. Good job and continued success.
Yes, best of luck, Sloop!
By the way, best of luck with the auction, Sloopy!
Also- Kentucky State Police charged Boucher with fourth-degree assault, which is usually reserved for incidents that result in minor injuries. If federal charges are added, Boucher could potentially face 10 years in prison for physically attacking a politician.
I think the “political” add-on should be reserved for instances involving official business.
Talking to someone who used to be a KY State Trooper, that level of charge doesn’t even allow them to arrest someone; it’s basically a ticket.
A mini-debate on a reasonably decent podcast between Popehat and a frothing SJW Speech Enforcer.
More Perfect, for an NPR subsidiary, actually puts out some decent presentations about the history of The Supreme Court and it’s rulings.
Apparently there is a longer video of the proceedings between Ken White and the SJW, but I have yet to watch it.
*EDIT FAIRY LEAPS INTO ACTION*
Decently? Decently?
Can I get a decent Edit Faerie on this?
Ours is not to choose the edit faerie, the faerie chooses you.
the whooping and clapping was annoying. the debate itself was an ass kicking.
Oliver Wendall Holmes’ fire in a crowded theater was such a setup for Ken White, i actually felt sorry for the SJW.
the SJW’s argument that the govt should decide truth and falseness of ideas is dangerous. when called out, the SJW says he’d rather have this debate in 2020 ostensibly b/c Trump would no longer be POTUS.
fucking dipshit.
admittedly, i stopped listening after the first 15 minutes b/c that was Ken’s piece and the rest had to do with private companies regulating speech on their platforms.
The Derp continued in the vein of “I demand that Twitter ban the people in my fever dreams who are literally bringing back the SS.”
Am I the only one here hoping that yesterday’s election *was* a sign and that the House flips in 2018? With President Trump and a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives absolutely nothing would get done in Washington, which would be glorious.
It’s not as if they’re getting anything done anyway, though.
Yeah, this was my thought as well. What exactly has been done under our current one-party rule? Failure to push any kind of Obamacare replacement?
That would also tempt Trump to make some really awful deals with Democrats which would be worse than the nothing happening now.
Exactly ^^^. I have no doubt whatsoever that if more Dems get elected, then the establishment Repubs will find common cause with them to pass all kinds of shit that will not be friendly to liberty.
I hoping that enough of the establishment Repubs get primaried out and their challengers get voted in so some things can get done. Like repealing Obamacare, National Reciprocity, the Hearing Act, etc.
Seconded…
Not to mention that the left would actually try to impeach TrumpPutinHitler because they don’t like him.
No. We’d get groundless vote to impeach after groundless vote to impeach.
We’ve got a gridlock state as it stands, moving to more blue is not going to make it more gridlocked.
Good. They can keep doing that and not do anything else like pass awful laws.
Yeah, also, there’s the possibility that a Schumer and McCain type alliance could get enough Rino support to dream up all sorts of awful nightmarish stuff and actually convince Trump to sign it, or maybe even override a veto. Just no to any more Democrats anywhere in government. No good can possibly come of it.
Highly doubt the House flips unless the market drops.
What? Don’t you know that last night’s election victories in deep blue / purple states is the beginning of a historic Democrat surge that no one can stop?
GOPe = Democrats.
Hey buddy, some of us are trying to get gun laws repealed over here!
Sorry no. Coffee still smells and tastes like shit. Cute Asian girls does not change that
I’m sorry your sense of smell and taste are broken, allow me to offer my condolences.
No, my taste and smelling senses work just fine.
Ah, the flaw lies elsewhere….my thoughts and prayers are with you.
You think finding terrible smells and tastes terrible is a flaw? I’d say it means everything is working correctly.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Is this UCS’s sock account?
I thought UCS was into bland boring things. Wouldn’t bitter black coffee be right is alley?
You must work for Big Tea.
No, Tea tastes awful too. But at least it doesn’t smell terrible.
like literal shit?
Close to it.
Kona blends smell amazing. Other coffees smell good, but still taste bad to me.
The only good thing ’bout walking through an airport these days is the smell of coffee wafting through the air from some mysterious, unlocatable vendor.
That’s actually an overflowing toilet somewhere. Your sense of smell is broken.
TRUE DOMINEERING SPECIES DRINK BLACK COFFEE!!!!
I’ll take mine Viet style. Sweetened condensed milk in french roast.
Well that sounds delightful…even Reptilian Overlords like to treat themselves once in a while.
*sips caramel machiato, nibbles on warm banana nut bread*

Have I secretly been a lizard person this whole time?

“Coffee still smells and tastes like shit.”
I dont even know what to say to that. You probably like avocados too.
Yes, my senses are functioning correctly. Terrible tastes like coffee register as terrible. Delicious tastes like avocado register as delicious. If you like coffee you probably like pineapple pizza too.
That is a vile calumny. Just because you’re defective it doesn’t mean you have to lash out at everyone else.
TEE is clearly an alien or a mutant.
You are broken, TEE. I am sorry for your loss of enjoyment in life.
Most people who don’t like the taste of coffee at least enjoy the smell.
Coffee smells good. It does taste awful, which is why I put milk in it.
You’re not alone, Elite Elite. In fact, almost no one actually likes coffee, which is why they pour all kinds of other crap in it before they can stand to drink it.
I drink black espresso. Why? To get it over with quickly.
Indeed. But at that point, why bother? There are other ways to get caffeine that don’t taste terrible.
Busted out a pint of the -month-old eggnog yesterday. Fucking delicious.
….these euphemisms are getting more ecclesiastical…
Nope. Fuck it. Flag on the play. You’re not even *trying* to hide it.
I love the quart of eggnog I have once a year
I have more than a quart of…nog….a year.
*Looks around shiftlessly. Starts to read newspaper on park bench with eye holes cut out.*
I love the bourbon that would be wasted in making eggnog.
KK – do you just mix with bourbon or go the pre-made route? Any recipes to share?
I used this recipe, based on (I think) KK’s recommendation. It’s really good.
Oh my. That looks delicious. Have to convince the wife to try this out for the holidays.
Alton Brown is the only way to go. If I could remember in June, I would make it then. I was late this year and made it in mid-Sept.
Heh.
Trump gets a standing ovation in South Korea and the U.S. media focuses on him ordering a quarter-pounder. I would have thought for people who are terrified of WWIII (like my neighbour) this little piece of info. could be useful, no?
Did Obama ever get a foreign standing ovation? The UN doesn’t count – bunch of losers over there.
Once. From the Wookie.
From Iran when he gave them pallets of money?
Opera applause.
I recall several times Obumbles gave speeches overseas and his audience barely applauded. They stared at him with utter contempt the whole time he spoke. Well, except at Mandela’s funeral, they were all snickering at him. The man is an absolute embarrassment.
Obama bowed so hard that people were embarrassed to give him an ovation.
Wasn’t there that big Germany speech right after he was elected? Trying to ape JFK or whatever.
“The simple fact is, no one person can make a quarter-pounder with cheese.”
From I, Quarter-Pounder With Cheese
Bill Clinton was celebrated by Team Blue for his love of McDonald’s and his treatment of women was explained away by apologists who claimed he was some sort of high achieving super male, probably with a huge cock. Where’s the love now?

“And as you are all probably aware, Democrats across the country are rejoicing today after they destroyed the Republicans in off-year elections. I mean they kicked their asses.”
I have to tell you, it is totally shocking when Democrats win in NJ. And NYC. Now the Virginia thing is interesting, although the Dems didn’t actually pick up anything, since the Gov there was already a Democrat. The troubling thing for the GOP might be that the overflow into NOVA from DC government workers and government contractor workers, may finally be enough to turn VA permanently blue. Not too surprising if you’ve been to NOVA in the past few years, it’s a boom town the likes I have never seen in this country, add the fact that DC votes 97% Democrat.
Yep, it’s genuinely annoying because you’ve got a million parasites who never venture south of I66 now running the whole state. We’re IL now.
I was planning on buying a house, I think I might hold off and look elsewhere.
I just refinanced *sobbing*
It was probably inevitable. It’s just VA becoming MD. It took a little longer because VA doesn’t have a Baltimore. The scary thing is all of the new development in VA. Once the Democrats get done raising taxes and real estate prices in VA to San Francisco levels, if the DC government/contract bubble ever bursts, there are going to be a hell of a lot of people a mile under water on mortgages.
That being said, I won’t even consider buying real estate in MD for exactly this reason. Home here sell for 3x what they’re actually worth. No way I’m paying 500k for a home worth 150k.
Well, in Chester County, PA the Dems easily won all four county wide races FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 150 YEARS. Trump backlash is as real as was the Obama backlash (Tea Party) in 2010.
Looking around the carnage, it appears the richer, more educated townships have finally swung against the Republicans, despite 150 years of “good government” holding down taxes, being fiscally responsible, and even being moderate on the cultural nonsense.
It’s the enthusiasm thing.
Republicans go vote, but they don’t make politics their lives.
Every Democrat went to the polls yesterday and personally punched a Nazi by voting Democrat. They went to the polls like a Bible thumper goes to Church on Sunday.
The district over from me, which has had a “belt and suspenders” conservative delegate for decades, is now being represented by, I shit you not, the head womyns studies professor at a local college.
That’s basically what happened in my home town.
When we moved here when I was a wee bairn, it was at my American grandfather’s recommendation. “Belmont has a good government that lives within its means and spends its money wisely” he pronounced. A couple of the selectmen used to hold court in one of the booths at the diner near my house and would meet with residents and hammer out problems.
Then the proggies started standing for election. The town is now going to shit. The public buildings are crumbling. They built a senior center that had to be immediately renovated extensively because the structure couldn’t support the emergency diesel generators that were added late in the design process. They have succesfully pushed through two tax increases to fund fixing the roads and then promptly raided those income streams to pay for employee salaries. As a result our roads look like something you’d see in Albania.
The town is now in a permanent state of financial crisis. Older people who’ve lived here their entire lives and own their homes outright are moving out because they can’t afford the taxes – especially the retirees. And they are being replaced by young families with kids who are doing what I’m doing – taking advantage of the expensive but relatively less sucky public school system here. Naturally, they want high taxes and have a high proportion of the lawn-mower moms who support things like “sustainibility” and new community centers.
And when things get bad enough, they move away…..and immediately start promoting the exact same bullshit that drove them away from where they used to live.
They’re like locusts aren’t they.
There is an explicit effort for progs to move to Texas to put it in play for national elections. NY, NJ, and CT Dems regularly cast ballots in FL using their vacation homes as residences. Dems have made a point of fighting for “student’s right to vote” so that they can throw an extra 10k votes per school into a swing state election.
They mean to rule well, but they mean to rule well. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be your master.
If true, it’ll be interesting to see if he shifts strategy (assuming his Twitter shtick is just that) and figures out another one to ensure he keeps winning.
The “issue” (if it can even be called that) is that even under full Dem control, the economy still grows, things are mostly good.
By the time things go full Detroit, the progs are gone and they’re fucking up other states. They’re already starting to move to Texas to get away from high taxes, bad roads, bad schools, crime in California and to move to a place with a booming economy and cheap cost of living……never connecting that the reason Texas has those things is that they have a legislature that meets every other year and doesn’t fuck with life too much. They already did it Colorado.
Like, VA is blue now because all the government parasites who “work” in DC chose to live in VA instead of MD, because VA had lower taxes, better schools, more pleasant business climate, etc……except now they’re going to strip that all away, because they are about to take over the state government from top to bottom. Like locusts.
You can’t get away from these people. They can’t just stay in the blue states and live in their Blue State Model, because it fucking sucks. They move to FL, CO, NC, etc and start voting for government, more taxes, more regulations, etc.
Do you think it’s about time to start buying up real estate in eastern WV? Because seriously, there isn’t going to be anywhere else left that you can possibly commute to DC from that’s not been progtarded into high taxes and real estate prices. I’m thinking of buying up huge tracts of land there so that when they build the bullet train from there to DC, I just sell it back to the state and feds for like 100x what I paid.
You know who else liked huge tracts of land?
Genghis Khan?
But I want to, SING!!!
Monty Python?
Mr. Domain, paging Mr. Eminent Domain. Please pick up the nearest courtesy phone.
The progs will just imminent domain you out of the money and land. Because of the good that will do them and their buddies.
Lots of people from around the York area commuting to the Balt/DC area for work because the housing prices and taxes are so much cheaper. Sounds like that party will be over soon enough.
What’s worrisome is whatever good or successes Trump achieves simply won’t be reported. I think they feel (or know) if they just keep hammering at lies and the negatives or his Tweets it will be enough to defeat him. In other words, expect TDS to continue unabated. Bush Derangement Syndrome, remember, didn’t stop for eight years.
Bush Derangement Syndrome didn’t stop until Trump got elected.
Dems love Bush now. Great guy, fair, loves his country.
This is one of the more hilarious symptoms of TDS. Just a few years ago he was WAR CRIMINAL #1.
The thing is if you prod them right you can get them to swing from sucking his dick to condemning him as a war criminal who should be tried at The Hague inside of five minutes. It really is an interesting delusional state these people are in.
That’s because they don’t have any principles.
It’s easier to shift around and squirm that way.
Yeah that’s old lefty cant though. My diehard prog mother has, in my lifetime, gone through that swing of “HES LITERLALY HITLER” to “he’s a wise statesman who was so much more reasonable then LITERALLY HITLER” with Bush Sr, Dole, and now Bush Jr.
It’s like the life cycle of prog dishonesty.
It’s hitler all the way down.
What’s even more worrisome is that this would likely be true of even the squishiest Republican.
Yep – Romney, for fucks sake, was the return of the Klan.
LOL!
My boss has a stack of pink “Resist!” stickers on his desk.
And here I was thinking his TDS was in remission.
So sad
You should tell him the tale of Obama arming rebel groups fighting Assad in Syria despite being loosely or directly aligned with ISIS and how this strategy based on no proof about Assad having been the only one using chemical weapons helped wrestle away leverage America had in the region.ceding it to Russia.
Trump stopped arming them and now ISIS is being pushed back.
I would then ask: Why do you defend ISIS boss?
It’s a lost cause.
After Hillary lost, and everyone in my section of the office was ranting about how this could happen, I gave them my anti-Hillary spiel. Our company has lost millions of dollars because of lost business caused by the instability in Europe, the Mid-East and North Africa that her stupid policies created. I pointed out the influence peddling. I pointed out the fact that vets like me were appalled at her violation of classified document laws.
It all bounced off their heads. They were insistent that I was babbling right-wing talking points. But eventually they did admit that people who thought the way I did might justifiably vote for Trump. Of course those people had been misled. Hillary was smart, competent, and the most qualified.
Hillary is DIRECTLY responsible for the human migrant crisis and all the subsequent pain and suffering it caused.
There I said it.
Is it his company?
No.
He’s actually quite good at his job. If he were running this company, it would be prospering. He isn’t actually much of a proggie either. I think he really, really, hates Trump because Trump is a boor.
Also, he’s a widower who is getting back in the dating pool, and so there may be a little white-knitism exacerbating his condition.
white-knitism
He’s into grannies?
Pussy hats.
I larfed.
That’s pink-knitism.
nononnono, NEE!
You should put up one of these.
About to hit the road. Went from my apartment to my uncle’s nearby for the night.

That’s a beautiful ‘yota.
Thanks! Still not perfect, I have to get the carb a little better.
I have a real weakness for Toyota trucks – well up to the point they put the 3.5L into the Tacoma.
Funny thing is I don’t like many of their cars but would rock any Land Cruiser, an old T-100, the first generation Tundra, or most of the Tacomas.
I grew up in a land cruiser from the 80’s. Can’t give it up now
Have you considered going to fuel injection? Upgrading is getting a lot cheaper. If you choose to off-road it, FI is a lot better in off camber, and you don’t have to fiddle and adjust all the time.
I have looked at a franken 2fe build, would probably just end up putting the 3fe from the late 80s in or a newer engine. We will see. I won’t be driving her this winter to make sure I can prep it for sale next one.
Salt! Not sale. Not selling.
Happy trails, Doom!
Check in from the road. Enjoy the time with dad.
I’ll have a bunch for MU.
Godspeed! May the road ahead be
pineapple pizzatrouble free.Where the heck are you with all that snow?
Be careful of wandering Canadians this time of year. It’s their migration time.
It decided to snow Monday and Tuesday in Boulder. It was 80 last week and almost 50 today. Just out luck.
A Canadian bit my sister once.
She did pay him to do just that.
It was one of those evil geese, wasn’t it?
Correct name is Fucking Hate Birds, the Birds That Hate.
That’s a classic. Nice.
American exceptionalism
Not surprisingly, mass shootings are overwhelmingly committed by men, and by men who, more than any other defining characteristic, have histories of domestic abuse and of harming those closest to them. Rather than just “snapping,” these are wrathful men who nurse grudges and who are plagued by a sense of insufficiency and of having been slighted and exploited. In other words, they are men who see their own lives as wasted, and who then set out to lay waste to the lives of others around them in a self-destructive conflagration. This is the opposite of sacrifice, of any logic of exchange: It is a desire to simply annihilate self, other, and one’s entire world in a single grand gesture of destruction. It is waste, all the way down, to the bitter end.
What do we gain by seeing this slow-motion national nightmare as so much waste? Among other things, we can see it as an organic continuation of some of the most basic and foundational American dreams. As the historian Nancy Isenberg documents, the architects of the early American colonial enterprise saw the “new” continent as a “wasteland” — an under-exploited landscape to be populated by the labor of “waste people,” the social detritus of the early modern British economy.
These marginalized individuals were understood quite literally as disposable human fertilizer for pastoralizing the American wilderness, only one facet of a settler-colonial regime’s ruthless exploitation and extinguishing of human lives, which extended from indentured labor to chattel slavery to ethnic cleansing and beyond. So, too, the realization of our Manifest Destiny was so much laying waste, and our rise to the status of world’s most powerful military nation, an achievement built, with no exaggeration, on the deaths of millions.
Exceptionally horrific.
Guns, patriarchy, racism, misogyny, evil, blah blah fucking blah. Fuck off, Professor. Go live with one of those Amazonian tribes “untainted” by western civilization. You can tell us how awesome they are, if you make it back alive.
I’ll bet he wrote this shit on a Mac, in a warm, comfortable office, with a full stomach and didn’t have to stop once to defend himself or seek food.
Fuck him.
While sipping a navet, squash spiced frappuccino from Starbucks.
Navet? That’s worse than courgette.
I’ve never even heard of either of those words.
The one and only time I went to Starbucks they looked at me like I was an alien.
“Large coffee, black.”/b-m
*barista with man bun doe-like gaze*
“Do you want sugar or cream?”

They are both covfefe.
“Not surprisingly, technological innovations are overwhelmingly developed by men”
“Not surprisingly, entrepreneurs are overwhelmingly men”
“Not surprisingly, white-collar crimes are overwhelmingly committed by men”
“Not surprisingly, homelessness is overwhelmingly an issue for men”
The biological dynamic is staring them straight in the face, and their response is to screw their eyes shut and shout TOXIC MASCULINITY rather than address it.
And the funny thing is, even while intersectionality demands that feminists pay obeisance to the notion that gender is a fluid concept, they’re still trying to map a binary conception of gender onto social outcomes. So they end up implying horseshit like “You are male THEREFORE you are liable to do X,” rather than “Your specific life trajectory is impossible to determine from gender alone, though if we group enough of you together we can make certain predictions about samples of you which are sociologically interesting but not determinative of any one of you…”
I thought homeless advocates always talked about it as a female/family issue.
You can tell us how awesome they are, if you make it back alive.
They can write “death by a curious combination of audacity and self-hatred” in his obituary.
The first paragraph is actually pretty solid. If you want to get inside a rampage killer’s head, that’s pretty much it.

Nick Sarwark and other ‘libertarians’ are forwarding along this Tweet.
Question: if libertarians who don’t want the government involved in social policy are derided as Republicans than why aren’t libertarians who embrace Left-wing social policy and want the government involved to enforce this policy derided as Democrats?
I’ll tell you what – if I were one of the many, many immigrants who came here, busted their asses and succeeded I would be awfully pissed at this racist paternalism.
Sanchez has always been more leftist than libertarian.
Who is he?
He used to write about technology and similar topics for CATO then Reason. I don’t really know what he has been doing lately though.
#resisting
Cocktail parties, obviously
Oh, I always skipped over the technology section at Reason. Not my cup of tea
This was like 10 years ago.
Yes. Same goes. I stopped reading reason in the early 2000’s because they wouldn’t shut-up about how technology would make the world totes libertarian
Hey, the Libertarian Moment™ is just around the corner. You’ll see! It’s just about to happen.
Fuck the lp till sarwark is gone.
“libertarians who embrace Left-wing social policy and want the government involved to enforce this policy”
A lot of people call themselves libertarians who are not libertarians. I have no idea what they think they are accomplishing.
Sarwark retweeted this? He really is a worthless sack of shit. It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of embarrassment the LP nominates the next time around.
Woah- Sarwark isn’t the only worthless sack of shit. Just wait to read TOS fawn over the fact that the guy in NC who crafted the pee pee legislation was voted out. Once again, they’ll ignore the fact that the state law forbade government mandated pee pee policy on business and totally justify the Charlotte legislation that began the whole stupid saga.
God bless that Patrick Reilly guy but holy shit rational and reasoned forces are in trouble.
What the hell Julian?
Next he’ll be trying to co-opt intersectionalism as a libertarian concept.
No, because whites generally enjoy this specific form of privilege even if any particular white person might ON NET be less “privileged”…
Your drunken father would’ve beat you worse if you were black. Winning message.
Wow, I haven’t read anything from Julian Sanchez in about a decade.
With libertarians like that, who needs big-gov-Democrat enemies?
This might sound like a conspiracy theory, but given the headline on AZCentral this morning All 27 Maricopa County school-district bond, override measures passing in early returns. I find it a little but odd that the vote itself was hosted at the local school district office and all individual, 27 school districts voted yes on the school budget override.
Meh, I’m only out $180.
an EXTRA $180.
Correct. An extra $180. For the children.
Some enlightened snowflake who went to high school with me posted his policy prescriptions for “fixing the epidemic of mass shooters” he claims we have, including high-cap mag bans, bumpfire bans, and suppressor bans (what?) to make mass shooters less effective.
He’s one of those self-loathing gun owners who is a competitive shooter, owns multiple guns, thousands of rounds of ammo, and honest-to-god high cap mags (60 round surefires, etc.)
When I commented he should lead by example and turn his in immediately, he replied “I’d be happy to”.
I won’t hold my breath.
Idiot. We’ve been working on creative ways of killing each other since Cain first brained his brother.
War. War never changes.
Since the dawn of humankind, when our ancestors first discovered the killing power of rock and bone, blood has been spilled in the name of everything: from God to justice to simple, psychotic rage.
In the year 2077, after millennia of armed conflict, the destructive nature of man could sustain itself no longer. The world was plunged into an abyss of nuclear fire and radiation.
But it was not, as some had predicted, the end of the world. Instead, the apocalypse was simply the prologue to another bloody chapter of human history. For man had succeeded in destroying the world – but war, war never changes.
There Will Be War, great series
As Santayana (and not Plato) said, only the dead have seen the end of war.
‘I’d be happy to’ is code for ‘I’m being figurative and hope you’ll forget’.
Check back with him in a month.
I do this with people who want to raise taxes or are unhappy with a tax cut. I send the donation page of the treasury, and ask for a screenshot of them donating that money they said they would.
None yet.
I nearly offered $10 per item he turned in to the local PD, but I decided it’s better I not incentivize his moves away from hypocrisy. I want to leave it as ammo for the next time he runs his mouth, and I’ve got the screenshots.
Left-speak for “only once the law’s passed and everyone else has to”
Funny, you usually don’t see this kind of bitchassedness from competitive shooters. You might check him for a pod attachment point.
Most of us just squabble over recreational nukes
This makes me sad.
Have you checked him for a pod attachment point?
Sheesh. Squirrels attack!
completely OT, but I’ve been lusting after this car
Last of the big blocks – choked back on the power by then – but nothing an engine rebuild/swap couldn’t fix. I’m normally note a Corvette kind of guy but the ol’ C3 is starting to grown on me. Nostalgia I guess.
*not
You owe it to yourself, really.
Yikes. I see the appeal but I remember that that car consistently won most unreliable for over a decade. Average 500 miles before it breaks down.
Bah. Strip all the fucking EPA shit, upgrade the ignition and let ‘er rip.
What Tundra said. Drive train is rugged and tons of parts are available.
Back in the late 90s my wife used to drive an ’81 Malibu with scads of miles on it and on it’s second engine. Only thing I replaced in two years of owning it was a starter – took me 10 minutes to do and only cost $75 for a rebuilt unit. Heck an entire engine swap was done in an afternoon when I first bought it. It was silly primitive.
That is great.
Automatic trans? Pass.
Yeah that’s the big negative for me.
It used to identify as an automatic.
Fixable problems.
7.4 L baby!
I had a C2 for a few years. Awfully pretty to look at but it handled like ass. If you mostly want it for toodling about at legal speeds, then get it and enjoy the hell out of it. If you want to drive it quickly, you’re going to wind up spending a ton of money and still be disappointed.
Straight line, eh? Lately I have been a lot more interested in handling than power, but I do miss the sound of a big ol V8 and the stupid amounts of torque.
Cars are never OT.
My cousin had a blazing yellow 1973 Stingray. Well, she had it for 2 months before it caught fire and burned up. Sad!
My boss has a stack of pink “Resist!” stickers on his desk.
Sounds like a rapist.
DENOUNCE HIM
http://www.tmz.com/2017/11/02/o-j-simpson-caitlyn-jenner-nicole-murders/
Just an FYI- in California, OJ could theoretically face more jail time for misgendering Jenner than he ever served for murdering his wife. Priorities
To be fair, the jury did find him not-guilty, so it would be an injustice if he did serve time for murdering his wife.
The joke still stands
So essentially same punishment as Jenner got for his own homocide?
Since calling someone whatever gender you think they are is free speech, I don’t see how that would pass constitutional muster.
Trust me. This will give you an a brain aneurysm
Obviously we need more laws on the books to not enforce.
Laws are magic. If fuckhead couldn’t legally buy a rifle, he would have instead sat at home and watched football. Because there is absolutely no other way for a crazed murderer to kill a bunch of people.
Fertilizer bomb? Impossible. Ramming a truck into the atrium after service ends? Impossible. Chaining the doors and torching the place? Totes impossible.
“Senseless act of violence”. How can you use that phrase and think that a piece of paper would have stopped him?
Gun show loophole, Tundra.
Don’t worry, the honorable Senator Flake is on it!
Matthew McConaughey! What a guy!
I’ve been lusting after this car
Well, at least it’s not one of those godawful early ’80s shitboxes.
Think about how gross the mustangs were then. Vettes too, but what happened then?
The Feds happened.
I had an ’86 Monte Carlo SS – easy to work on since it was a throwback to 60s technology. Well once you got rid of the computer controlled Quadrajet.
Worst part? Everything in the interior was metric. Oh and the weak 7.5″ rear.
and the 180hp 305 was a joke – because you can’t step on the Corvette/Camaro toes. A 355 I built took care of that problem.
My uncle had one of those. White with the darkest tinted windows possible. Screamed “Florida Man”….which he is.
Things I didn’t like about the SS – the 80s-o-riffic stripes that ran the length of the car. Every ricer in a Honda Accord with a tacked on wing wanted a go. And the car was a cop magnet.

I’m going blind on this. Number 23.

nothing an engine rebuild/swap couldn’t fix.
I’m too lazy to look; is there a vortec (or vortec-style) head out there for the big block? Bang for the buck, that would make a big difference, I suspect.
The compression ratio on those smog era engines was awful. Turning that block into a performer is gonna take more than heads, but that would be a good start.
I did a little reading up – and yeah – looks like a pull/rebuild/re-install job if I wanted to get some real performance out of a smog-era 454.
SJWednesday: New Buzzword Alert Edition
I’m trying to keep you guys current with all of the latest catchphrases. So here’s your remedial intersectional lesson for the day.
They’re not even trying to hide their assault on traditional lifestyles anymore; nevermind the fact that the sexual behavior in Friends would have been scandalous to our grandparents, now it’s “toxic” because it’s not liberated enough.
In utopia, one must maintain their loyalty to the great state, not some ‘family unit’. Family units are not needed in paradise and are in fact harmful. Wreckers and hoarders. That’s really all there is to it. Just leftist authoritarians being leftist authoritarians.
Once had a discussion with a proggie who A) Did not understand why the family is under assault and B) Did not understand the importance of family. He just didn’t see it as a big deal that the family is under assault. So, I asked him
“If you get arrested who is going to come looking for you? Who is going to hire a lawyer on your behalf? Who makes sure that you dont get disappeared?”
I think he got it.
“Government is the only things that we are all apart of”
– President Obama
Society hardest hit
Family provides loyalty to an entity besides government and it’s evolutionary. You are genetically programmed to give a shit about your family and friends, not random strangers or “society”. That is why the Left’s utopian “indiscriminate altruism to all beings!” shit requires the creation of a “new man”. It’s also why so many people end up in ovens; because you can’t deprogram millions of years of evolution and those who won’t play along must die.
Agreed. But, even saying that family is important gets you labeled ‘alt-right’ in some quarters. That’s how backwards our society has become
All societies are built around relationships (rather, the society is the aggregation of relationships). Contra the D&D Law/Chaos and Good/Evil concept, I think there’s just a single spectrum for society alignment, if only because chaotic societies are inherently unstable and tend to revert to something less so.
In good societies, those relationships are predominantly horizontal and interconnected, and are mediated by love and valid trust (so, family and extended family plays a critical role, as do strong friendships, local civil organizations and faith groups. Widespread and broad character/virtue is mandatory for sustaining this state).
In evil societies, those relationships are largely vertical, and mediated by power. It relies on atomized individuals who can’t relate to one another on personal terms, massive erosion of trust, cult thought-control tactics, charismatic leaders and far-reaching bureaucracies. The powerful have so much power, and deal with individuals with so little intermediation, that there is the perception of a vast disparity of power, leading to total submission and compliance.
In neutral societies (aka LN, chaotic neutral is nonsense for societies), those relationships are a mix of horizontal and vertical and are predominantly mediated by contract. Because we’re talking about a spectrum, it’s a gradient from a society where contracts are simple and mostly formalizations of trust relationships (e.g. lawful good) to a true neutral hyper-libertarian sort of society like Snow Crash, to a society where contracts are deceptive and abusive, enforced in a manner which favors the powerful, and reward the conniving or those who exploit leverage (e.g. lawful evil). The farther away from neutral a society gets, the more unstable it becomes, leading to a sort of limiting principle.
It aint called demoralization for nuthin’.
On the corporate buzzword side of things, it appears there is a new one. Synergy. I think it’s recycled, just can’t remember from when.
Man I hate that word.
I don’t miss the days of corporate buzzwords.
It seems like the best buzzwords are ones that are totally void of meaning and the ones that might have a meaning, but most people don’t know what it is. But no matter what the current one in vogue is, once an executive with no real work to do, sees it, they’re damn sure not wasting any time sending out mass emails using it at least a dozen times.
Who’s going to champion this effort?
Let’s form a Tiger Team.
Let’s ideate a solution.
The ‘big data’ is there in the ‘cloud’, all we have to do is use ‘synergy’ to take advantage of it. *everyone staring off into distance or looking at cell phone*.
Back in my engineering days, I would listen in on the company’s quarterly earnings reports. It was painful to hear all the synergy’s, synergistic’s, synergistically’s, and synergize’s being uttered.
Have you people (triggered!) been to the meetings at my company? Because this is the kind of shit I’ve been hearing for the last few months (years!)
“Big data”
Speaking as someone whose job title is “Data Scientist”, I can unequivocally agree that about 95% of it is horseshit. While there are many new products and applications available that make statistical analysis and parallel processing easier, there is nothing new under the sun in that field. Scientists have been doing that shit for years. I did all the same stuff in grad school a decade before corporate America discovered it and started attaching buzzwords to it. Whatevs. Put it on my resume. Impress management (who doesn’t actually understand any of it). Get paid.
Any one remember when Microsoft sent out an army of people to conferences, apparently for the sole purpose of having them pronounce processes as process-‘ees’. I was at one of those and the guy next to me just blurts out ‘process-ees’?, what the fuck?
“Have you people (triggered!) been to the meetings at my company? Because this is the kind of shit I’ve been hearing for the last few months (years!)”
That’s because top level execs with no real work to do read the same bullshit magazines. ‘Hey, they’re doing it, we need to do it too!’. I really hate that shit.
Big Data is set to take quantum leaps into the digital future.
The intertoobz of everything.
I’ve been getting a kick out of Six Sigma. My company is trying to mandate this in every aspect of the workplace where it would not apply, except in those areas that are actually bloated and cause an enormous deal of lost efficiency. I’m beginning to think these “efficiency programs” are actually some kind of pocket and title lining device.
I once had a boss that held a weekly meeting and he would just spew buzzwords. When he was finished no one had a clue what the hell he was talking about. It was so comical everyone had to struggle not to laugh. Personally I think he did it on purpose to troll us.
When that happens, you have to play bullshit bingo. On each square you have a buzzword. When you get a bingo, you just hold it up and say ‘BULLSHIT’! We actually did this in a meeting once and it took like 2 minutes for the CEO to get bullshitted. He was not amused, but everyone else had a good laugh.
I had a friend I used to work with, she became president of a local bank branch. She told me that they would actually give her a buzzword and she was expected to use it so many times a day and make sure the underlings also used it. Apparently that one word had magical properties.
“Black Anality” argues that “black” and “anal” are rendered ideologically, discursively, and representationally synonymous, and that black female flesh becomes the material space on which this convergence occurs. Drawing on an archive of online, widely accessible black pornographies, I develop the term black anality to describe how black pleasures are represented as peculiarly and particularly oriented toward the anus, and thus as peculiarly and particularly attached to anal ideologies. In doing so, I depart from black feminist scholarship, which has long examined the buttocks as an imagined locus of racial-sexual difference and which has developed a set of analytics that now predominate in the study of black female sexualities: spectacularity, excess, grotesquerie, and display. “Black Anality” offers a new set of analytics for black feminist work on sexuality: spatiality, waste, toxicity, and filth. These analytics, I argue, allow black feminists to consider how black female sexuality is imagined to be rooted in (and perhaps generative of) certain kinds of filthy spaces, particularly the ghetto; how black sexuality is constructed as literally and metaphorically dirty; how black sexuality is posited as toxic, non-productive, and nonreproductive; and how black sexuality is imagined as wasteful. In turning attention to this understudied and overdetermining space — the black anus — “Black Anality” considers the racial meanings produced in pornographic texts that insistently return to the black female anus as a critical site of pleasure, peril, and curiosity.
So, follow up to Hawking’s treatise on black holes?
It will soon be racist to use that term. They’ll have to change it to…???
Ixnay on the lackbody-bay adiation-ray!
That was probably funded with a federal grant.
Talk about complete gibberish.
The first time I ever heard that word was in a military setting circa 1990.
It meant combining various types of disparate combat forces to achieve an effect that was more than the sum of their parts. Combined Arms Operations.
But it’s been bastardized ever since then, with most people using it to mean harmony.
Why “Friends”? “Leave it to Beaver” would’ve provide more material.
There are patterns between successful comedies. The writer misses them entirely.
Memo to Teen Vogue: at least the attendees are over 18.

Also, what’s so mystifying about anal that it needs a workshop? Use lube and put it in slower; here’s your diploma!
“You couldn’t be fucked in the ass in Texas until about 10 minutes ago,” she said.
No. That started in 1913.
Maybe she didn’t get to Texas until 10 minutes ago?

In a nutshell, sitcoms tend to perpetuate what I’ve seen termed “toxic monogamy.”
Somebody linked to another goofy bint ranting about how egregiously oppressive and misogynistic “stable family units” are, a while back.
I have no idea why, but this just popped into my head:
A “slut” fucks everybody. A “cunt” fucks everybody but you.
Remember when academics were complaining about white families giving their children a leg up in terms of academia? Of course, it comes down to stability, invested parents, and drug abstinence. But these people only understand things in monochrome, and everything beneath the surface is occluded.
Well once you got rid of the computer controlled Quadrajet.
No kidding. I had a ’90 Caprice wagon for a while; I used it as a shop truck. I stuck some random carb on that my friend said had been on his boat. Not only did it run better, it even shifted better. Obviously some sort of shift controller module in that rat’s nest of wires.
No, in that era, it was still just vacuum controlled, but a new carb would affect that as well.
Electronic controls on the tranny’s was a mid 90’s thing.

Calizuela!
We should be encouraging this.
How about You guys Annex SB county and Riverside county, and call it Desertfornia, we’re pretty Red out here
I’ve long thought a better solution would be to break California into two states, West Cali and East Cali.
I think we can annex them and eventually allow them into AZ as counties. Imperial Valley definitely fits better with AZ than CA.
On the election results:
The chatter, of course, is that the Dem wins were a referendum on Trump, and show that Trump is bad, Trump is political poison, etc. No surprise, since the chatter comes from people who hate Trump.
And they may even be right. But there is an alternative explanation: that the Dems wins come from Repub voters not turning out because they are pissed at the national GOP and Congress flagrantly violating every campaign promise they made and legislating pretty much the way a Dem Congress would.
“legislating pretty much the way a Dem Congress would.”
I don’t think so. If Dems had another majority like that, we’d already have socialized healthcare, free college, a national gun registry, and a zillion dollars in new taxes to pay for it.
Or it’s just the pendulum swinging once again. Every single time a party wins, we’re told one of two things:
1. This is a repudiation of everything the opposition stands for and a sign of things to come!
2. PURMUHNENT MUHJORITEE!
Both parties suck a fat donkey dick and people think voting one way or the other will change things. Different voters get motivated by different things, etc. But the talking heads have to talk about something…
It could also be the fact that Virginia has become a bluer state due to so much government employment. If Republicans want to continue to win any elections they need to seriously break the back of government. More government employees= more government
That’s pretty much it.
^^^This. There are a shitload of people, not just in VA but across the country, that have a highly vested interest in not draining the swamp. This is why Trump is running into so many problems with his own caucus, they’re just as dedicated to the swamp as the Dems are.
So much government employment and so many moving here from the northeast. My family moved to Richmond in 1983. Back then, hardly anyone was from anywhere else. Now, it seems like only a handful of my kids’ classmates aren’t from Pennsylvania, or Massachusetts, or Illinois, or New Jersey.
Or India, but that’s a difference discussion.
Ed tried to play footsty with the Trump crowd, while not going too far. I think that kind of killed him from both sides. The MAGA crowd is basically in the mode of “fuck you establishment, it’s time for you suit wearing fucks to hold your nose and vote for us.” They kinda felt that that Ed was trying to wink at them without actually coming out and fully embracing it, and their attitude is “fuck you then you penny loafer wearing fuck. Go get your country club friends to pound on doors and make phone calls. I got a fucking job to work, I don’t have time for your bullshit.”
The mailers and the ads were also pretty tone deaf. Who the fuck brags about being a part of the Bush White House at this point. It’s so tone deaf and so out of touch with the actual political tone and mood.
It’s all about voter enthusiasm. 600,000 people who voted for Trump didn’t come out for Ed. There’s a message there, but I don’t think it’s the message the media and the establishment wants to promulgate. Now, if Ed had gone full on MAGA, that might have energized the Dems to come out and vote against him in greater numbers, but if he had actually rallied the enthusiasm of the Trump voters, he would have gotten more votes than any GOP candidate for governor has ever got. That might have been a win.
Better to strike out swinging then to get out on a bunt.
“Better to strike out swinging then to get out on a bunt.”
Great analogy. But, that’s assuming the Pubs even want to be in power. After watching Congress for the past year, I’m thinking they don’t. They *like* being in the minority because they get to make tepid statements denouncing Dem power grabs while still going to the cocktail parties and rubbing elbows with the elite. They never have to make any hard choices or face any kind of criticism and they fundamentally agree with the Dems on most issues.
They’re not all like that though. Rand, Lee, Cruz, a shitload of the House Republicans are cut from a different cloth.
This is kind of where the Gingrich term limits thing fucks you. A bunch of the GOP pols who swept in the house in 1994 swore to be term limited, so they left politics. Those guys would be Senators now, instead its RINOs like McCain, Hatch, Corker, Flake, etc.
I still think the Senate elections next year are gonna result in a very different Senate. The map is incredibly favorable to the GOP. They will pickup seats. The question is:
1. Will it be enough to get them to 60 so they can ram through a Rand Paul agenda?
2. Will the new Republicans be actual conservatives, or will be they be RINO stooges again.
I know people dismiss it as conspiracy bullshit, but there are absolutely Republicans who are either secret Democrats or who might as well be. The converse is not true. I don’t know a single Democratic Senator who regularly stabs his base in the back the way four or five Republican Senators do. To be clear, I am not talking about genuine moderates like Collins. It’s people like Flake, McCain, Corker. There’s absolutely no reason Arizona should have two RINO squishes in the Senate.
They’re the domestic equivalent of Neville Chamberlain. Trump is a little more of a Churchillian figure, for better or worse.
Well, for one thing he’s not a very good candidate in the first place. Dull as drying paint.
Or, the Dem wins came from the elections being held in heavily Democratic blue states. Seems like Occam’s Razor applies here.

Elizabeth Nolan Brown re-tweeted this from Balko. If you thought that these people actually still cared about small government, you should stop.
ENB always was a fake libertarian, EVIL DRUMPFITLER just gave her an excuse to ram progressivism balls deep in her Lefty snatch.
She should shut up and make me a sandwich.
And yes, I insult her in a vulgar manner because she deserves it.
She’s a garbage person.
Unbelievable: one of his own responses was “one [party] is clearly more of a threat than other.” Really, Balko? I’d say they’re both equal threats just on different issues.
I take the Dave Smith position. During the Bush era I clearly saw the Republicans as the greater threat. They made meaningless war, restricted civil liberties, and expanded government. Now the Democrats make meaningless war, restrict free speech and gun rights, and expand government. I find Republicans to be less threatening now. Especially since they are impotent to do anything.
ENB and Balko are not libertarians they are cosmotarians. Cosmotarians are not libertarians. They fully support more government, but only within the realm of social policy. They thought Republicans were threats during the Bush years and now they still think they are threats despite the attempts by Democrats to restrict speech and guns.
I keep hearing that yet no one ever seems to spell out what the threat is about. Well, Suderman did, I guess there’s that. He warned us that Trump is going to unleash gangs of murderous vigilantes on us. I am still waiting on that.
Pray tell Balko, what exactly is this threat?
glibertarian call out in the responses, but as a general term.
Radley had the most unfortunate case of TDS than anyone. I see it’s continuing. He still does good work, but man…
So, I guess he has given up all pretense of being a libertarian, if he thinks the Repubs are more of a threat than the Dems.
I agree, one party IS more of a threat. He’s just wrong about which one.
Not to say that the GOP isn’t *a* threat, but everyone who wants to outlaw certain thoughts, speech, compel labor, etc, all in the name of “the greater good”…..yeah, the vast majority of those guys reside on the left side.
Let’s form a Tiger Team.
“Great idea. Here’s what we’ll do. First, I chain you to this tree, then I go up in the treehouse with my bazooka and wait for the tiger to come.”
Don’t miss
I won’t miss… you at all.
Hmmmm…
Careful of the back blast, bro – gotta remember to point the ass end of that thing out a window. Otherwise, you get to find out if the tiger likes his dinner well done.
The compression ratio on those smog era engines was awful. Turning that block into a performer is gonna take more than heads, but that would be a good start.
Well, yeah, smaller chambers are mandatory, but easier than pulling the thing completely apart to put longer rods in it.
STEVE SMITH DISAGREE, FIND IT NOT SO DIFFICULT
Elizabeth Nolan Brown re-tweeted this from Balko.
“Trumpelstiltskin turned me into a Democrat!”
Sure, Balko.
He turned me into a Newt,
KYS Flake.

HURR DURR LET’S MAKE A LAW THAT ALREADY EXISTS!
The responses (with some exceptions) are beyond retarded. LEARN THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SEMI-AUTO AND AUTO IF YOU’RE GOING TO DEBATE THIS YOU FUCKING IDIOTS.
Semi-auto? You mean “semi-assault”?
Pussy hat must be too tight and restricting blood flow to her brain.
I thought he was busy pissing off. Why is he still around?
Again: these people are not worth debating until they’re talking about national confiscation. They don’t know the first thing about firearms or firearm regulation. You may as well debate your dog.
Welp, I officially take back anything nice I ever said about him.
Thanks Flake, I can now add your name to the embarrassingly long list of AZ senators I regret voting for.
Well, passing a law that does nothing but harm the innocent seems much more of an attainable goal that getting government officials to give a shit about doing their jobs. Say what you will about Japan, but I bet if someone forgot to file some paperwork and got a bunch innocent people, even small children, murdered by a monster that shouldn’t have seen the light of day, he would at least do the honorable thing.

Cathy Reisenwitz and Julie Borowski are sniping at one another again (of course Cathy always starts it). I know a while back people talked about a fight between ENB and Lauren Southern as a joke, but I think Julie and Cathy may actually come to blows if they ever had a repeat of their Stossel debate from a few years back. They clearly don’t like eachother.
i have no idea what they’re arguing about.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/gageskidmore/12532981103
they’re going to brawl, you say?
Needs more Jell-O.
I hear they’re going to start selling kegs of ranch dressing…
Basic summary.
Julie was a Ron Paul fan and worked for Freedom Works
Reisenwitz is a Reason person who isn’t very libertarian. She just likes the government supporting and funding her sex habits
I looked at her twits. ‘Not very libertarian’ doesnt really cover it.
Just lose the “very” and it’s accurate
I don’t actually know who these two are, but reading that, I react to this….
Leaving aside the semaphore at the end….”gays are the best”. Well, some of them are. Some of them are mediocre. Some of them are downright worthless. Gee, it’s almost as if they are fully human, with good traits as well as negative traits, and should be considered on an individual basis!
What a laff. Reisenwitz isn’t even close to pretending to be a libertarian anymore. She’s the protoENB. She used to be a libertine, and she’s a full on Prog these days. No idea if she’s still a libertine and frankly don’t care.
Individualism is racist, sexist, and just downright mean!
I’S A LIBURTARYUN! LET’S COLLECTIVIZE PEOPLE BASED ON WHAT THEY DO WITH THEIR GENITALS!
Moron.
Why would anyone pay any attention to (former reason webmaster) Reisenwitz?
Because I sometimes pay attention to Julie Borowski. She’s pretty good sometimes. And at least once a month she gets into some sort of bitch fest with Reisenwitz after Reisenwitz attacks her
I meant more why Julie would continue to respond to the troll.
He explained it above. “At least once a month…”
Troll gonna troll, especially if it keeps getting fed.
We will see the Higher Education-Industrial Complex collapse in our lifetimes.
https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-11-07/how-the-republicans-tax-plan-threatens-higher-ed
I really want the higher ed bubble to burst. Taking young people out of the job market for half a decade to pursue expensive and often not cost effective degrees is a drag on the economy. All the debt being generated is obscene. People are spending the price of home on an education that won’t enable them to be able to buy a home until they are in their 40s.
I’m a damn millenial who just went to work out of high school and learned some marketable skills along the way and I am in way better financial shape than almost anyone I know who went to college.
Agree completely. College is very useful in certain circumstances, but the future is in a greatly pared back traditional campus with far more online programs and OJT. People need to learn real things, not pomo ethnic studies horseshit. Divest the fedgov from the loan business as well, that’s what is driving up cost.
I have a cousin who is a veterinarian. She borrowed through 8 years of college. She moved to Chicago (god knows why) and went into business. She is making minimum payments on 150k of student debt and her and her husband are poor as fuck, living paycheck to paycheck. It’s sad. She has also turned into a berniebot and has repeatedly said that student loan forgiveness is the single issue she votes for.
Being a vet anywhere is tough. High schooling costs and relatively low earning potential. Just about anywhere, you’d be better off as an electrician even before the cost of any student loans.
That’s a shame because the world needs vets. She could have lived in the country and been a livestock vet; she may not have made as much money but her cost of living would have been a ton lower and she could have paid off the debt. But if she’s a berniebot she thinks that the world owes her something and that’s the real problem.
That really is the real problem
I think a large portion of Bernie supporters are people who are disappointed that going into debt for an education didn’t pay off and are trying to use politics to pay for their financial mistakes. They are not much different than Trump guys who blame immigrants for their poor economic fortunes and want to use politics to squash out their competitors.
Bernie is a communist. People attracted to communism usually are there because of pure envy or because they hope the communists will save them from their own stupid decisions.
I worry that modern higher education isn’t just the outgrowth of our obscene vendor-financing scheme, but a necessary response to the heinous state of public education. We’ve failed students so badly that they require years of remediation, not just for their lackluster educations but simply to function as adults in an adult world. And now colleges failing at that, too.
I doubt that part of it. I got a shitty public school education and aside from being a globertarian, am a fully functioning adult.
Most of my education didn’t come from school. There are these things out there on the market called books. They are full of information and are not very expensive. I have managed to read hundreds of them on my time and my own dime and have what I feel is a pretty damn good education. People don’t have to have schools to learn things. there are many other ways to get an education.
And that’s how REAL education happens. The person has to want it; you can’t just funnel them through some government institution and expect them to truly apprehend knowledge by forcing them to memorize shit and then giving a test. That’s one of the big reasons I’m against compulsory education; if the kid doesn’t want to learn, they won’t, whether they’re sitting in the classroom or not.
I think a return to employment skills testing would be a good thing. Unfortunately, there are a lot of court cases on the books where it was ruled that such testing was “racist”. Also, many occupational licensing schemes mandate a degree from an accredited college, so that’s another thing propping up this shitty “higher eduation” system in this country.
I think a good start would be to scrap occupational licensing and maybe clarify somehow that employers can administer whatever kind of test they want and if more ethnic minorities fail the test, well that’s not really the employers fault.
But mah credentials!
Hear hear Lachowski. It cant pop soon enough.
Your financial health is the result of you making wise and not-unwise decisions. I am the same way, financially better off than anyone I know and it is for the same reason. I have some family members that blow through money like it’s water and nothing I say to them gets through. Some of them are terribly envious that I can pay my bills without worry but those same people call me cheap. Fuck’em.
My own son got to his senior year in college before he got out. I asked him why – “I learned everything I need to know”.
He is now running his own business 4 years out of school and easily one of the deplorable 1%. The people he went to school with are all slogging away at awful jobs barely able to pay their student loans.
Ave money put back that I plan to use to help my son when he goes up. If higher ed looks like it does today in 12 more years when he gets out of high school, I’m gonna buy my kid a bulldozer. I think it would be a much more effective use of capital.
Probably a lot cheaper too.
Also, all that needs to happen for higher ed to immediately fix itself is for the givernment to stop subsidizing it.
This, over and over.
Let the market sort itself out.
All that we need to happen for X to immediately fix itself is for the government to stop subsidizing it.
Also, feel free to replace subsidizing with regulating.
^^^^^
But who is going to pay all of those diversity officers and black women’s studies professors?
Seriously, the streets will be full of those useless bastards. The tears will be so delicious.
It kills me that anyone can charge someone wasting their time on this crap the same as they would charge a computer science, engineering, pre-med or pre-law, or accounting/business major and not cringe at the abuse.
Letting people shaft the banks on their student loans would be a way to do it. Higher education is dead anyway. People have to demand critical thinking out of their peers, I don’t see any other solution.

You know what a superb article needs? AUTOPLAY VIDEO SUPPLEMENT!
That’s the second slam-dunk Investors article I’ve seen this week. Seems like people with skin in the game take an interest in its wellbeing.
I think more pushback should be given to the “no true socialism” canard. There is no true socialism, only the fairy tale of Marxist platonists. What there is, is a set of assumptions wrapped up in the driving animus to destroy the prevailing social order: the assumption that humans, unconstrained by laws, will revert to a Rousseauian state of nature and live in harmony with their neighbors. That those who prevail in the inevitable power clash could ever be anyone except the most bloodthirsty psychopaths. That productive enterprise can be maintained during a monetary collapse, let alone the ensuing command economy. These assumptions are why socialism is doomed to failure from the start, not because the platonic ideal in the heads of vacuous ideologues wasn’t realized.
It’s also why I disagree with the idea that socialism on paper seems like a good idea. No, it doesn’t. It’s awful on paper, too. The only difference is there’s no blood yet.
In the apocalypse Lord Humungus will lead us. Lynx will be the new guzzoline in the desolate future the leftists create. And we will the best speaker systems.

I really have to give kudos to Trump for calling out communism. He doesn’t pull any punches. If calling it like it is means he is boorish, I will take the boor. That fucking pink twink that was in the white house before never would put something like that on their site.
Individualism is racist, sexist, and just downright mean!
Individualism is… like… all icky, and stuff. Who doesn’t yearn for the warm embrace of the collective?
Crazy people, that’s who.

anyways, the only thing that jumped out at me here was “a life rich in potential“, followed soon by “oh, and he’d tried murdering someone before”
i mean, seriously, does anyone have editors anymore? i seriously think internet journalism is basically “yeah whatever just publish stuff”
oh, duh: the ‘life rich in potential’ was the med student.
sigh.
never mind

They ripped that copy from every newspaper article about about every teenager killed in a drive-by over the last 40 years.
The killing sparked frenzied new waves of hatred and fear of refugees.
OMFG THE BACKLASH!!! This is why we can’t more stringently police our borders or decline to take unverifiable “asylum seekers” from culturally incompatible nations, because that’s equivalent to dragging migrants!
I do most of my Glibbing from my phone. When the comments get up over 400 or so, it negatively affect my ability to use this site. Everything gets slow and choppy. Any of you more technically minded folks know any way to mitigate this?
Use of a desktop mitigates the phone-related problems.

I recommend you complain to the webmaster, she likes that and will probably help you out.

This isn’t surprising
Charlie Sheen accused (not by Corey Feldman) of being the one who allegedly molested Corey Haim on the set of Lucas. Feldman alluded to the incident in his book but didn’t name names, but it was pretty much assumed he was referring to Charlie Sheen.
What the fuck is it with those people? How can an industry as large as that be chock full of grabby molesters?
People lacking in moral plumbing, with access to desperate ingenues, shielded by an industry convinced by progressive propaganda, tend to behave as though there are no consequences. Because, for the most part, there aren’t.
I think lacking in moral plumbing is accurate. I dont get it because consequences or not I dont put my hands on other people because I have respect for them as individuals. I also dont understand why no one ever beats the shit out of the scum doing this.
Also, almost everyone is dirty to some extent and they’re open to counter accusations if they open their mouths and if they’re clean their careers are ruined or they just never take off.
Someone told me something similar recently. I asked why our state rep didn’t seem to have any interest in me.
Her – “Have you ever asked him for anything? ”
Me – “No, I figure he gets enough of that already.”
Her – “Well, there is your problem. You dont owe him anything so he has no leverage with you.”
Me – “I never thought about it like that.”

I don’t think I learned this until I was in my twenties, but my mother’s father never made it past the eighth grade. He was an extremely intelligent man who worked his ass off all his life, and educated himself by reading voraciously and paying attention to the world around him.
Yes. Not long ago I was talking to my very cute Veterinarian and the subject of physics came up. She said she got through it in school but that most of what she understood about it she understood intuitively.
I said “Of course. For the people who dont get it intuitively taking a class doesnt really help very much.”

Seen on FB feed: Friend touting gluten free turkey…
I saw gluten free meat and gluten free sea salt in the grocery store recently.
*everything* is marketed as gluten free nowadays. I bought a bottle of bubble bath for my daughter once and it said it was gluten free.

anybody here super-hip with blockchain tech?
quick show of hands, please
No, (because of its limited practical applications) … so buzzword bingo… is your application actually so specific that Blockchain would really be useful? distributed untrusted systems, with confirmation/trust by consensus.

Recognize him? Hell, they voted for him twice.

Don’t miss the part in the headline where Obama is branded a “celebrity”, a title encapsulating his entire presidency.
the cadet candidate “committed the act in a bizarre bid to get out of trouble he faced at the school for other misconduct,”
