Just a few basketball games yesterday. All of the ranked teams won, including Michigan State who appears to be on an absolute tear. Everton is making all the Big Sam haters eat their words after another easy win. They’re undefeated since he came onboard, and they’ve earned every point except the one they stole in the Liverpool derby with what can only be described as a simulated penalty late in the match. But whatever. payback for that is coming on Jan 5th.
I’ve been negligent by not giving the hockey scores much recently. And although it was done to placate those sports-averse Glibs out there, I can’t go on like that forever. So here they are: Columbus got mauled by the Bruins. The Devils cursed the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. The Avalanche smothered the Penguins. The Kings royally pounded the Flyers. And the Oilers greased the Sharks.
That’s pretty much it for sports. You Darvish is thinking about going to Chicago. The Cowboys are being coy about how they might use Zeke this week. Oh yeah, and then there’s this sports story. Which deserves about 100 times as much coverage as its getting. Especially this time of year. Damn, it got dusty in here all of a sudden.
See? I don’t always give shitty news. Although I usually do once we get past sportsball and step into…the links!
MATT DAMON!!!!!! Seriously, now he’s just trolling people for his buddy Harvey. Nevermind that he’s probably right for the first time in a long time about a hot button issue (::cough::school choice::cough::)
Amtrak train in PNW was going 50 mph over the speed limit when it went off the tracks yesterday, killing several and causing all kinds of damage. So much for people bitching about how its the government’s fault for not blowing tons and tons of money on infrastructure repairs. Now they’ll bitch that safety features preventing the conductor from actually contriolling the speed should have been installed. Either way, it’ll be the fault of the obstructionist republicans rather than the Dems. Mark my words.
This seems legit. Ah, who am I kidding? They’ll pay double this the next time a cop plants evidence on somebody and walks away with his pension intact when the truth comes out a couple years later.
Another unnamed person involved in a shooting in the Bay Area. But this one is different that yesterday’s. Now I wonder if we’ll ever get the details of what he had been up to.
Doctor says John McCain’s setback is normal for patients with brain cancer. Well, that’s a relief. But you know what isn’t normal? Someone with brain cancer occupying a Senate seat when he’s incapable of performing the duties of his job. Thanks for denying Arizonans their right to a Senator who is actually able to represent them in the way they should expect, you selfish, arrogant ass.
#metoo enters the tech sector. Wait, does this count as the “tech” sector or is there another word for this scam?
There’s another election coming up in a couple days that might be significant. We need Swissy to update us on the goings-on with a thorough piece.
I’ll go ahead and get this song out of the way this week.
Have a wonderful day, friends!
No, this is the Subsudy-mining sector.
The thing was virtually empty on its maiden run? What a waste of money.
Wasn’t this supposed to be a “High-Speed” route? 30 mph doesn’t sound high speed to me.
For Amtrak, 30mph is high speed.
/parked for an hour in Poughkeepsie
You Ever Pick Your Feet In Poughkeepsie?
No, but I pick my nose in Harlem.
Poughkeepsie’s motto is, “At least we’re not Newburgh”.
There is a pretty darned good brewery in Newburg though
http://newburghbrewing.com/
Used to live a block from there. Stumbled home after Rangers games and a few of their Giga Boss IPA’s
There’s a good place for burgers, too. The wherehouse.
Good live music too. Shame about Newburgh. If it wasn’t for all the people getting shot I might have stuck around.
Newburgh’s motto is, “We cut a piece out of the shittiest part of NYC and moved it up river”.
That’s just because none of them know what “NYC, Metastasized” means.
I didn’t realize how many people here have been to Newburgh.
Choo-choo get hurt?! NOOO!!!! Fix with money!
/progs (and Trump, apparently)
One of the factors that made passenger trains uncompeditive was the sheer volume of property taxes the railroad paid on their track miles. This makes me wonder if in today’s environment a private road would suffer the same fate if it tried to cover a route the public roads neglected.
Interesting, I never knew this.
Every locality was taxing them for their trackage. I’ve heard anecdotes where some localities were using the railroad revenue as their primary source of funding and taxing residences at far lower rates. Even if not true, the acreage under the tracks adds up.
Trump IS a prog.
He just decided the best way for him to win was to leave the Dems and take Bill’s voting block with him.
The “John McCain setback” will be known as a political phenomenon.
Sounds like a Robert Ludlum novel.
I’ll try to enact your labor this week.
You don’t say?

Hey Admins: I am having trouble uploading media this morning. It gets to 100% and hangs. Just want to make yall aware of the issue.
Close the browsers and get rid of cookies and then open it back up.
I’m still getting the below error
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/wp_zetqum/glibertarians.com/wp-includes/class-wp-image-editor.php on line 402
Then this sounds like an SP-solvable problem. It loaded my media just fine.
No worries, it was nothing important. I’ll check back later on another computer.
Culture Thousands Of People Are Hunting For The Yowie And They Reckon They’re Onto Something
A marsupial bigfoot?
You call that a STEVE SMITH? THIS IS A STEVE SMITH.
A marsupial bigfoot?
Is that a fire hydrant in your pocket or are you glad to see a hiker?
STEVE SMITH GIVE HIKERS “YOWIE”!!
*staggers up, begins prolonged ovation*
To avoid getting a yowie (and because I can’t upload the photo myself right now), I present this as tribute.
STEVE SMITH GIVE ISRAELI HIKERS “YAWEH”
We called this a “Snipe Hunt” when I was young.
Which never made any sense, as snipes are real birds that can be successfully caught (and the difficulty of shooting them led to the approbation of ‘sniper’)
Nice of him to donate the property, but holy fuck is that an ugly house.
This one is more my speed. And $2 million cheaper!

My entire home is the size of an average guest bedroom.
If you’re gonna go, go big.
And buy the ranch my former bosses bought.
Which too their Montana total to just over 431 square miles in 2012. A number I think they’ve doubled since then.
Holy shit! Now that’s a spread.

I read this a few times and it still makes no sense:
It was a “dream home” when he worked in Philadelphia, but when his job moved him to Dallas –closer to the house- it was no longer suitable?
Dreams are ephemeral things.
Alternate theory. The Hamel’s are actually sinister fuckers. They discovered the house was infested with rats and thought it would be funny to fill it with retarded kids.
I have absolutely zero proof of any of this, so feel free to disseminate it as you see fit.
I’ll get on Twitter stat.
Texas > Missouri > Philadelphia. This ain’t hard.
Yeah, I think the “dream” part of the house was “no northern winters”
I’ve been In Missouri in the summer. That was a nightmare.
Read the comments. A lot of them are saying he’s just doing it for publicity and the tax write off.
I don’t think a lot of people understand how tax writeoffs work. Or that by making a public announcement, Hamels and his pretty attractive wife might spur other big donors to do something similar and really help these kids who need it.
Some people can be just downright dumb. Jealous people even moreso.
I actually take them at their word. I just thought the lawyer’s comment was kinda funny.
And yes, jealously can really turn people into assholes.
I always appreciate people who likely don’t give $5 to charity in a year critically prognosticating someone elses “true” motives.
Giving away a $94M property isn’t a “tax write-off”, it’s a financial loss and no matter how much publicity it generates there is probably no way it will make up for that loss.
Argh, $9.4M .
The drama at Wilfred Laurier U in Canada continues.
Turns out that this Rambukkana cunt, the guy who ran the inquisition against Lindsay Shepherd for showing a 5 minute clip of Jordan Peterson from a publicly funded TV program, must have made up the ‘complaint’ against Shepherd out of thin air –
So just where did this non-existent complaint come from?
Isn’t it great when the people running societies institutions of higher learning just lie through their teeth in a narrative pushing exercise?
Hrmm…Needs more press to get the Mizzou treatment from the general public.
The Canadian Media is busy playing 1984,with Peterson as the recipient of a repeated loop of Ten Minutes Hate.
Is that the store Drew Carey used to work at?
Meanwhile, the faculty members involved are doubling down on the derp
So academic freedom = freedom to threaten your subordinates against talking about freedom?

The internet has made me jaded. I was expecting something truly out there.
Also, did the guy from #8 recover? That sounds more like a horrible mishap than an oddity.
I’d have to agree. Even a threeway with a sheep wouldn’t get me too stirred up.
“Also, did the guy from #8 recover? That sounds more like a horrible mishap”

Well, if you saw the movie, it doesn’t really wind up good for anyone involved.

5, 8 and 11 have some legit complaints. The rest….uh….meh.
Maybe it’s because I’m thrilled anytime that I have the merest possibility of having sex, but I really don’t get people with fetishes. I don’t need to have elaborate rape fantasies to make my sex-life more exciting. Having sex is fun. I’m not sure how people get bored with it.
I’ll gladly help a girl out with her kinks if she brings them up, but other than very boring outfit-shit, I certainly don’t have anything that I’m really into to. Maybe I’m missing out on something.
Meh.

A man is lost. He decides to stop and ask for directions at a farm. Before he knocks on the door, he sees in the window an old, naked couple. The wife is pulling her breasts, and the husband is jerking off. Horrified, the man runs across the street to another house. The homeowner tells the man, “They’re deaf. She’s saying ‘Milk the cows,’ and he’s saying ‘Go fuck yourself.'”

$1.95 billion high-speed rail project in final phase in Illinois
$1.95 billion to increase the speed 11 MPH. Most of that coming from federal money.
… to 41 MPH?
What could go wrong? It worked awesome in Washington?
You know who got the trains to run on time?
Andrew Carnegie?
Gomez Addams?
Houston.
Not the city.
Tom Hanks?
That is always how they get you. For every $1 you invest, the Feds will give you $2. Who wouldn’t go for a deal like that?
Exactly how Minnesoda got its light rail line. Govt planners were happy to tell you off the record, that it was completely about upgrading infrastructure. New sewers/electrical/etc could be installed on the Feds dime. Of course you have to ignore the fact that you have to subsidize operating costs for the project from then on.

You’re already sabotaging his life before you get into your ideological nonsense. Single mothers are the worst option for raising boys.
Not such a great option for raising girls, either. A lot of single-mom girls end up on the stripper pole.

The conventional wisdom that boys need fathers to teach them how to be men is persistent and pervasive, despite any credible research to support it. Although my son has important men in his life, I invest equal energy in ensuring that he has strong relationships with women and girls — with me, his preschool buddies, other family members, and his bevy of loving “aunties.”
i’m guessing dad’s a sperm donor.
Although my son has important men in his life,
Such as who, I wonder? Sure doesn’t sound like his father is in the mix.
I invest equal energy in ensuring that he has strong relationships with women and girls
I’m sure you actually give equal attention to his relationships with men, sweetie. Seeing as you think men have “sexualized, objectified, demeaned and minimized” all the women in his life. I mean, who wouldn’t invest in bringing more that to their child?
i’m guessing dad’s a sperm donor.
I’m guessing he’s joined the French Foreign Legion to get away.

Bulll…. Shitt….. Here’s just a sample of credible research below. Not only do children need a male adult in their life, it needs to be their biological father. This corpus is extensive, old, and always seems to replicate no matter how you analyze it. This is, in fact, one of the stronger non-genetic childhood influences on adult anti-social behavior and accomplishment. It stands up to wonky number crunching. It stands up to more simplistic analysis like ethnographic studies. It stands up to traditional wisdom. The only cadre that doesn’t buy it is motivated by an ideological desire to for human nature to change to meet their preferred aesthetics.

Innocent until proven guilty is not useful
So horrific, almost as bad as rape. Who cares about the police report?
Jackie Coakly nods in agreement.
So a common argument I see is that rape is incredibly hard to prove. I can see it being difficult if there are no witnesses, but people still get jailed for rape. And if the investigation occurs soon after the incident, there could be evidence.
Only for Rape-rape, they also operated under an expansive definition of “rape” that includes “delayed regret” and “wrongthink”
It gets hard to prove when someone says an awkward come on line is assault.
This seems like a bad line of argument. Simple assault is generally less traumatic than rape. If you walk into an ER after getting punched or stabbed, there are no specially trained nurses following national guidelines for evidence collection. IIRC, simple assault has a higher % chance to be between strangers than rape. And people get convicted from simple assault all the time.
‘It’s sexism, basically. I think there’s a valid argument behind the idea that sexiness is patriarchal, and that’s problematic. But that being said, it can be really limiting to young women who feel like that’s their self-expression; someone telling them that they can’t do that is suppressing.’

I’m not the only one who finds Branson insufferable, right?
To be honest, Branson in his youth was a pretty admirable character. But *Sir* Branson? Yeah, I think he should just stay on the island and fuck stewardesses all day.
Yeah. My first experience was when LinkedIn suggested I follow him. His comments on LinkedIn are pretty much a typical social media style preening.
Re: the train mishap. It’s always interesting to me to see the blaming that goes around when a tragedy occurs. It’s as if in the human mind if we can identify who’s fault it is, that alone makes us safer. All it does is make us feel more safe in our delusion that we will be ok in our daily activities, and won’t die in a ‘freak’ accident.
Now in this case it is starting to sound like error on the part of the conductor, but once again, the passengers had no control over that. We need to appreciate every day, because we really don’t know what could happen.
None of this is to say that we should dwell on our mortality, just be aware that even us ridiculously good looking people can die in freak gasoline fight accidents.

Mark Zandi, Obama’s house
economistfluffer, is on Bloomberg, talking about how Trump’s tax plan is going to wreck the housing market in New Jersey.I would have thought it’s the fact that it’s New Jersey would be enough to doom the housing market in New Jersey.
Housing prices are quite expensive in New Jersey, and the market is quite strong.
I’m sure there are parts of Jersey that benefit from being “Not New York”
Depends on your location. But if you can afford a $600k house, you are probably hitting the AMT and it makes little difference.
How is making things cheaper wrecking the housing market?
That seems like it is good for everyone in Jersey wanting to buy a house.
It stems from a view of a house as an investment instead of a residence.
If you bought looking to make money when you turn the property over, you will be greatly concerned by a drop in value.
If you bought looking for a place you will enjoy living in until you move on, this will not be as much of a distress, espeically the lower purchase price of the next nice place to live.
Property is an investment.
Homes are not investments.
So, no, I don’t have that view.
But even so, in any other product, most people are generally happy with lower prices for consumers and have no concern for the producers getting lower profits from the consumer gain. But somehow, the housing industry is different! “You invested in Exxon and now oil prices are cheaper, sucks to be you.” “You invested in pork belly futures and bacon prices fell thru the floor, tough break.” “You invested in a house and lost your shirt? Special dispensation, bailouts ahoy!!!”
Property is not by definition an investment. Property is something you own. You may have property that is an investment, but not all property is an investment.
Homes are property.
Are you really going to try to out pedant me?
Okay:
Property, that is not your home, can be a vehicle for a good investment.
Your home, despite being property, should not be treated as an investment.
A jersey is an item of knitted clothing, traditionally in wool or cotton, with sleeves, worn as a pullover, as it does not open at the front, unlike a cardigan. It is usually close-fitting and machine knitted in contrast to a guernsey that is more often hand knit with a thicker yarn.
And even the ones that baseball players were that button up the front are still jerseys, because the meaning of words drift over time.
Not trying to out pedant you, just thought you were going down that darn Georgist land tax rathole again.
If I was doing that, I wouldnt have used the word property, as I would have distinguished land from property. Duh.
Does any team wear a Baseball Guernsey?

You would think that all the people calling for more affordable housing would be tickled pink any time there is a correction in the market and housing gets cheaper.
“‘Jingle Bells’ rooted in racism, Boston University professor says
“Although ‘One Horse Open Sleigh,’ for most of its singers and listeners, may have eluded its racialized past and taken its place in the seemingly unproblematic romanticization of a normal ‘white’ Christmas, attention to the circumstances of its performance history enables reflection on its problematic role in the construction of blackness and whiteness in the United States,” she wrote.
Hamill started researching the history of the famous Christmas carol after a so-called “Jingle Bells War” – a dispute between two towns, Medford, Mass. and Savannah, Ga. – that claim to be the birthplace of the song written by James Pierpont.
“Its origins emerged from the economic needs of a perpetually unsuccessful man, the racial politics of antebellum Boston, the city’s climate, and the intertheatrical repertoire of commercial blackface performers moving between Boston and New York,” Hamill wrote.
The traces of blackface minstrel origins can be found in the music and lyrics, as well as the “elements of ‘male display,’ boasting, and the unbridled behavior of the male body onstage,” the author wrote.”

Has anyone noticed Andrew Dice Clay has been the target of bleeding heart liberals and SJWs lately? His name always comes up now whenever they talk about humour that ‘hasn’t held up well’. I wasn’t a fan but I recently heard one of his bits and didn’t find it was all that bad. One comedian I never latched out to – and one can also say the humour has aged well – but is considered the greatest is Richard Pryor. And what does ‘comedy that doesn’t age well’ even mean? I listen to old Newhart and Bob Hope and….well, do they qualify?
Just an observation.
“comedy that doesn’t age well” = wrongthink.

Did these jokes age well?
There’s plenty of standup that doesn’t age well. It’s called “every woman comic ever not named Joan Rivers.”
Her and Madelaine Kahn. Funny chicks.
Carol Burnett
Talk about a show that’s held up well. That cast was fucken hilarious.
Carol Burnett?
Lucille Ball?
Ok, before I get further ridiculed, let me reiterate that I was talking about standup. Not variety shows or early tv programs. Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett and Madeleine Kahn were all hilarious in their venue. But the overwhelming majority of female standup comedians have been unwatchable.
/THROWS VEGETABLES AT SLOPPY.
Wanda Sykes, Ellen DeGeneres, Sarah Silverman, Margaret Cho, were all funny. But that was back when they were politically incorrect.
Wendy Liebman and Rita Rudner.
Ellen DeGeneres was NEVER a good stand-up. She is a pretty good talk show host.
Rita Rudner or GTFO!!!!
Okay, I’m kidding. You’re right.
Little Miss Muffet…. HAY-OHHHHHH
Considering the outrage back when Clay was a thing, I don’t see how it didnt hold well if it is still causing outrage.

His appearances on O&A would have me laughing so hard it hurt.
So I ran the numbers on the new tax plan and it looks like, as a decidedly middle-class individual, I’m going to save around $1000 in taxes next year. That’s not an insignificant number.
https://www.cnn.com/2017/12/19/politics/cnn-poll-tax-bill-opposition-grows/index.html
“2/3rds of people say the tax plan favors the rich”
Wonder how this poll would go if they do it again on April 16th.
I saw someone mocking the tax plan with “That’s only $120 a month”.
I’ll gladly take another $120 of my own money each month. Also, if you’re so rich you don’t need it, mind giivng me your $120/month too?
And yet, especially around here, everyone freaks the fuck out during open enrollment when they find out how much insurance increased.
Interesting link name. Didn’t know they were instituting a poll tax.
They are intentionally obfuscating by using dollar amounts instead of percentages. Things like X% of people making under $75k will get at least $100 in savings, while Y% of those making over $500k will get at least $100 in savings. Of course someone paying $100,000 in taxes will see a greater amount saved over someone paying $5,000 in taxes with the same rate cut for both.
The problem of course is that we have a progressive tax code. The republican tax plan is better than nothing, especially since it eliminates the Obamacare mandate. What an opportunity lost though to reduce spending to pre-Bush levels and drop the income tax to a flat 10% across the board for everyone.
“What an opportunity lost though to reduce spending to pre-Bush levels and drop the income tax to a flat 10% across the board for everyone.”
Quit dreaming
Wah! Wah! People that pay more taxes will get a bigger break. Not fair!
Did see from the sidebar that Tavis Smiley got bitten by #metoo. Charlie Rose… will Diane Rehm be passed over?
Apparently there are two prog memes on FB. One if “the rich.” The other is that this is “deficit-buster” – this from the people who cheered on Obama’s budgets.
Idiots.
“The city of Minneapolis may fire its police psychology evaluator because his tests screened out too many minority candidates, despite already lowering psych evaluations far below the national standard.
The July police shooting of Justine Damond triggered the city to scrutinize its psychological standards for police, with many claiming they’d become lax. Psychiatrist Thomas Gratzer has run psych testing for the Minneapolis police for the past five years, and in that time, he has eliminated four of the five tests used to determine whether a candidate is fit to be an officer, APM reported Thursday. Now, Gratzer is facing firing not for gutting his standard, but for screening out too many minorities.”

“Principals, not principles” or “Needs more Somalis”
“despite already lowering psych evaluations far below the national standard.”
Sometimes, when you have competing standards, you have to choose which is most important.
Also, can you imagine being the psychologist? And being under that kind of pressure to do what to you obviously think is wrong.
“As long as we get a few more darkies, what does it matter if we have a bunch more mentally unstable cops running around?”
Is this due to the Somalis that have immigrated in such high numbers there, or something else?
Must.
Prog.
Harder!!
It’s a joke. The MPD is bad enough without the stupid diversity hires.
The reason that the Somalis that have immigrated are psychologically unfit to be police is because they don’t see Somali police officers. QED, motherfucker!
I wonder how much of this is also due to the fact that no one gets along worse with the Somalis than the local African Americans. The Somalis think that they are better because their ancestors were never slaves. The local blacks don’t take kindly to that.
So we may have competing quotas that have to be filled. One for Somalis and one for local black guys.
Question: Given progs’ champion-level projection, is their fetishization of “consent” indicative of a subconscious desire to rape couched in deep seated sexual insecurity?
Obviously. I didn’t think this needed to be stated in this crowd.
It’s a subconscious desire to be raped so that they can all join the #MeToo train.
“Fox News host Jesse Watters debated a professor over the weekend who claimed that eating meat reinforces “toxic masculinity” and patriarchy.
Anne DeLessio-Parson, a Ph.D. candidate at Pennsylvania State University, recently claimed in an academic journal that eating meat reinforces patriarchy. She came to the conclusion that abstaining from meat is an act of feminism after spending years in Argentina as a vegetarian. Watters wanted to know how exactly eating meat reinforces “toxic masculinity.”
Eating meat is “one of the ways … to reinforce existing social structures, including patriarchy,” DeLessio-Parson explained. When asked to elaborate, DeLessio-Parson said she didn’t have enough time to do so. However, she explained that all individual decisions humans make are inherently political and eating meat is associated with patriarchy.
Then one of Watters’ producers walked on set and laid a plate with a fat, juicy (rare) steak on the table in front of DeLessio-Parson.”

Is there a steak that isn’t juicy when rare?
It’s possible to have a steak that is both not raw and not dry.
Eye of round.

Well it is stupid, so yeah, I guess so
Proof that Feminists’ real goal is to make everyone as miserable as they are.

Someone who believes this must be unspeakably miserable.
Indeed.
There seems to be a causal link between Feminism and misery.
You know who else used toilet paper?
That girl at the swimming pool when she forgot her tampons?
Venezuelan politicians?
Homemade Mummy Costumers?
There we have it, patriarchy is necessary for a natural development of the human body.
DeLessio-Parson doesn’t want any pudding.
She’s an idiot. My wife LOVES meat. A pure carnivore. I’m sure she isn’t the only one.

Are they giving PhD’s away now?
“We’re really bad neighbours right now.”
I swear these people are all St. Francis of Assisi without the smarts or charm.
Yes.
Look at the dissertations or published work by some of these “Doctors” and you’ll know that PhD in most fields is a warning not to employ that person.
Even when the PhD itself is for something substantial, it can still mark a person as undesirable for hire. There is a definite anti-PhD bias in some workplaces that don’t otherwise have a problem with college degrees.
PhD tend to be hyper-focused on their area of expertise.
The old adage “When all you have is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.”
However, she explained that all individual decisions humans make are inherently political and eating

Meat is just one of the outputs of that system, and, interestingly enough, one of the few foods that is also obtainable without an agricultural system at all.
But even in those hunter-gatherer days, it was the men who hunted…
“The secret backstory of how Obama let Hezbollah off the hook
An ambitious U.S. task force targeting Hezbollah’s billion-dollar criminal enterprise ran headlong into the White House’s desire for a nuclear deal with Iran.
In its determination to secure a nuclear deal with Iran, the Obama administration derailed an ambitious law enforcement campaign targeting drug trafficking by the Iranian-backed terrorist group Hezbollah, even as it was funneling cocaine into the United States, according to a POLITICO investigation.
The campaign, dubbed Project Cassandra, was launched in 2008 after the Drug Enforcement Administration amassed evidence that Hezbollah had transformed itself from a Middle East-focused military and political organization into an international crime syndicate that some investigators believed was collecting $1 billion a year from drug and weapons trafficking, money laundering and other criminal activities.”
https://www.politico.com/interactives/2017/obama-hezbollah-drug-trafficking-investigation/
The best thing about Trump is his dismantling of Obama’s “legacy”. Everything Obama did was to improve his legacy first, and help others second. It’s a rare Justice to see it be destroyed rather than enshrined in US history.
Especially since that Legacy was designed to hurt the country as much as possible.
And RIGHT after his reign of stupidity no less. Get rid of it while it’s still fresh and hasn’t had a chance to dry.
That an outsider President came in just after the dolt almost makes me wonder about a conspiracy theory.
Almost.
I dream of a day in which historians have dropped the proggy identity politics and can speak the truth: Obama was the shittiest president ever.
4th shittiest (Wilson, Buchanan and FDR)
TR , LBJ
HH, JA.
The best was clearly William Henry Harrison.
Silent Cal will not let this injustice go unnoticed!
Well, actually, he probably would.
Instead they ranked him as the 12th greatest. How retarded is that?
I still good that WHH was the best president, as she had the good sense to die, one month into office.
I’m shocked, shocked I tells ya, that that story has been drowned out by the train story and how horrible the tax break is.
This is worse than Fast & Furious, which might have been the most dangerous shit ever to be swept under the rug in the name of principals over principles.
This link looks familiar…
I didn’t want to bitch about it. Maybe the Count was away yesterday.

https://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2017-12-18/the-current-sex-panic-harks-back-to-the-era-of-coddling-women
Something that most people who incite these kinds of witch hunts and panics (a la, every girl will get raped at college) don’t get is that it’s easy to get the mob rolling, but you don’t get to decide how the mob decides to remedy the issue.
Yeah, don’t be surprised when the unemployment rate for females rises. Every man with even a bit of intelligence will start to adopt the “Pence Rule” and avoid private interactions with women, and probably avoid public ones too. This #MeToo nonsense is not going to end well, for women.
More evidence that the patriarchy is out to get women.
Those are the quality euphemisms you expect from a professional writer.
If he made cabbage soup, the message was “get lost”. The smell and flavor were designed to drive you away.
Hush, you.
Maybe the smell is bad if you overcook it and the H2S is released. But certainly not the flavor. Cabbage soup, with some nice garlic, shallots, a couple potatoes and a salty chunk of ham in it is fucking delicious.
taught me to insert little slivers of garlic into a beef roast
Holy hell this sounds delicious. I shall have to give it a try.
“There’s also reason to worry that this cultural shift could hurt working relationships between men and women. Vice President Mike Pence was ridiculed for his refusal to have a meal alone with a woman (other than his wife). Given how far the pendulum has swung, it’s almost hard to find fault with his strategy. Men can’t be blamed for being cautious about how they approach and interact with women now, but do we really want to live in a world where men and woman cannot work together as colleagues without third person supervision? Do we really want corporate cultures that prohibit men and women from conducting closed door meetings with one another?”
https://www.indystar.com/story/opinion/2017/12/11/chicks-right-find-balance-sexual-harassment-panic/941575001/
I could be wrong, but I recall Pence explaining his policy as an obligation to his wife, not as insurance against accusations or to keep himself in check. I’m sure those are factors, but it’s completely negligent that critics forget that fact. He isn’t protecting himself from women or women from himself, he’s protecting his marriage from even the appearance of indiscretion.
“2/3rds of people say the tax plan favors the rich”
This couldn’t possibly be related to the incessant scaremongering by the media about how the tax bill is a gargantuan giveaway to the undeserving rich, could it?
NEWS AT ELEVEN!
Tax cuts favor the people that pay them…
Go fucking figure.
Time To Make Life Hard For The Rich
It is time for polite, respectable, rational people to start saying what has become painfully obvious: It is time to stop respecting the rich, and start stealing from them. In earnest.
*snip*
If the government won’t help, we have to help ourselves. Sticking up a billionaire on the street for $100 is not going to do it. But one can imagine other ways that angry Americans might express their dissatisfaction with our current division of wealth: A large-scale online attack against the holdings of the very rich; yachts sunk in harbors; unoccupied vacation homes in the Hamptons mysteriously burned to the ground. Sotheby’s auctions swarmed by vandals, Art Basel attacked by spraypaint-wielding mobs, protests on the doorsteps of right-wing think tanks, venomous words directed at millionaires as they dine in fancy restaurants. People have a right to life and safety, but property does not.
It’s ok though, these people do not believe in arming themselves.
“If the government won’t help, we have to help ourselves.”
At least they recognize that they want to wield the Government like a hammer.
something something French Revolution
And by destroying the evil rich people’s property, that means there’s more pie for everyone, right?
If we can’t have it, nobody can.
^^^^THIS^^^^
And that is why what is going on is so fucking frightening.
Here comes the dark age again. I am being totally serious. When society as we know it implodes because the people that keep it going have been persecuted and no longer produce, what follows is collapse and bad shit.
“Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.
This is known as “bad luck.”
― Robert A. Heinlein
Alternatively, if we killed all the poor people, then no one would be poor. Poor is anyone who earns less than I do. Just to be clear, the rich is anyone who earns more than I do.
I can’t load the page from that link. I think my browser knows that it would induce a murderous rage in me so it is preempting that.
“I have personally stood in a room full of hedge fund titans and billionaire investors warning one another explicitly that inequality must be addressed lest the U.S. become a place like Latin America, where rich people are forced to live behind walls, surrounded by armed guards, because of the very real risks from the rage of the poor.”
Cool story, bro.
And what’s funny is, the places where the rich have the most control (especially California) are the most like Latin America, with an oligarch class, a relatively small middle class, and a large lumpen-proletariat/peasant class.
New York City also – the Middle Class is fleeing those places. Too expensive to live a middle class lifestyle without a soul-crushing commute every day.
The scenes from Snowcrash are flashing through my mind where the wealthy hired armed guards complete with machine gun nests to guard their yachts from the 3rd world refugees, along with the gated communities that had their own internal police force.
The progs just don’t understand that if they punch someone above their weight, they’re going to get knocked out. Like the girl with dreds who did literally get knocked out after trying to sucker punch a dude twice her weight. I think her name was Moldylocks or something. Where do their illusions of grandeur come from?
Come. And. Take. It.
This.
Literally die.
THE KOCH BROTHERS ARE MURDERERS!!!!!!
It’s hard to imagine the Koch brothers being so wealthy when all they really own are green pieces of paper.
I thought they owned an oil company.
which they swim in, Scrooge McDuck style.
I’m literally sick of the word literally being used all the literal time.
Figuratively speaking, of course.
Unmitigated balls?
“commando”
In the meantime the Koch’s are fighting for criminal justice reform and ending corporate welfare. Which is why the left’s propagandists are portraying them as the devil incarnate. Can’t have people solving the problems whose permanence gives the left its power!
And supporting the arts, donating to hospitals…
If the topic is having ridiculous amounts of money and spending it on politics, why name only the Kochs?
Oh, that’s right: principals, not principles. I suspect the major complaint is that the author isn’t cashing those filthy, filthy Koch checks.
Their zero-sum thinking can hardly be made more explicit.
Also: Of COURSE that article is on the network of sites grown out of Gawker’s carcass. Of course it is.
Shit like this was a contributing factor in my decision to purchase firearms.
Extolling the proletariat to rise up against the wealthy oppressor sounds great until you realize that the mob’s measure of wealth knows no lower limit.
Robespierre had his own date with Madame Guillotine.
+1 Shrieking in agony until the blade severs the windpipe.
Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
Try it, you pencil-necked little fuckknuckles.
Oh OK, so if somebody burned down an unoccupied building in the middle of the night – say, a Planned Parenthood, UAW meeting hall, or ACORN office – that would be totally cool, right?
And I guess if I burn down your house, then steal all your clothes and put you up in a bus stop on a sub-zero night that’s fine and dandy. All I did was destroy your property, I didn’t directly harm your life or safety.
Now they’ll bitch that safety features preventing the conductor from actually contriolling the speed should have been installed.
If the conductor is controlling the speed of the train, there’s part of the problem.
The engineer (or driver for metric types) is the one operating the engine.
::sigh::
I fucked that up.
Just yanking your chain. You (and the rest of the morning/afternoon Glib linkers) do good work day in, day out even on weekends and I’m very appreciative.
I like the up/down arrows to jump to the top/bottom of the article feature, but now that it’s on the left side I have to use my “dirty” hand.
Also completely OT, about how many rounds does the average infantryman carry when on patrol?
One in his best pocket.
I always keep mine in my worst pocket.
6 full 30 rnd magazines at a minimum. Usually with extra in his patrol pack.
Much appreciated.
Going on a hike?
210 rounds is normal load out now.
Yeah that should have been 7 magazines not 6.
6 in the ammo pouch, 1 in the gun.
Unless your humpin’ the pig. 150 rd in gun, 300 carried?
AG with another 600?
“Brussels has said that Europeans must accept mass migration from the third world as the “new norm”, warning that neither walls nor policies will allow any part of the EU to remain “homogenous and migration-free”.
“It’s time to face the truth. We cannot and will never be able to stop migration,” writes EU Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos, in a piece for POLITICO, published Monday entitled, “Europe’s Migrants Are Here to Stay”.
In it, the Eurocrat wrote “human mobility will increasingly define the 21st century”, and that mass migration is an issue Brussels has committed Europe to “for the long haul”, stating: “Migration is deeply intertwined with our policies on economics, trade, education and employment — to name just a few.””
http://www.breitbart.com/london/2017/12/18/eu-white-mass-migration-norm/
TW: Breitbart
That’s a far cry from actively encouraging it.
Exactly. Stop with the free shit and you will get much less immigration.
It’s real easy to get rid of migration – curb welfare benefits, walls, guards, papers, employment checks, etc. The question is how much of that does the native population want to deal with?
Even leaving aside the many nations who don’t have a lot of in-migration because, why would you move there, the Swiss seem to be able to control their migration pretty well. As do the middle and eastern European countries that make an effort. This article is really a complaint that you can, in fact, control migration, and some countries actually are.
Since they aren’t part of the EU, they can gaze narrowly at anyone trying to enter.
Try telling a small, mountainous country that does not have any way to build out much more (they have already built too much on flood plains) without taking what little arable land they have out, or flattening mountains, that they have to take in 10’s of thousands of illiterate, non-native language speaking outsiders into a service oriented/craftsmanship oriented economy that has to import all sorts of necessities.
You will get more than a *narrows gaze*
From what I have heard this has been the reaction in practically every European country that already felt they had too many migrants there, but what the people of most of these countries feel or think matters shit because the political class needs more bodies to keep the welfare state viable for another generation or two (since the European natives no longer procreate in enough numbers). The fact that so many are paralyzed with fear about the end of the European welfare state is why so many, despite their disdain for the existing policy, and are completely dependent on it, is why the same types keep winning elections. At least for now.
That doesn’t work when the people you’re importing don’t work.
If viability is defined as electoral (popular?) support, then viability may be enhanced if the migrants don’t work.
Those are all excellent reasons to control immigration, but I think the reasons a country has for controlling immigration are nobody else’s business. Contra the perfumed princes of Brussels, immigration can be controlled – there is no reason to accept it as a fait accompli. You may want to allow it, or you may not, but that is the “why”. Brussels is trying to skip that question as irrelevant, because they claim there is no “how”. Which there plainly is.
They don’t want to have to argue why unlimited immigration is beneficial, because it’s not. It’s only beneficial from the faculty lounge, multi-culti, Western Civ is racist POV. As a practical matter, it’s an unmitigated disaster. Better to just convince the peasants that nothing can be done about it since they’re starting to notice how much is sucks.
There are three simple steps to cut down on migration.
1: Anyone who does not follow the legal entrance application process is ineligable for ANY government-funded programs.
2: Anyone who is found to be in the country illegally is immediately and without debate returned to their country of origin. If they do not reveal their country of origin, they are sent to the worst shithole which shares a language with them
3: Anyone who, while in the country illegally, commits a crime is subjected to a more severe punishment, their illegal status being an aggravating factor. Then deported to the worst shithole that shares a language with them.
These steps will be cheaper and will reduce migration within the first month of implementation.
1. I’d support this if cutting all of those benefits in their entirety is off the table.
2. If you have some form of due process, I’m in agreement.
3. This undermines the equal protection clause and would lead to all kinds of constitutional challenges. They should be punished the same as anybody else and then deported.
I was talking to Europeans. You know they won’t be able to go cold turkey on the nanny state right now.
Also, there are plenty of laws that have “Aggravating factors” in sentencing that have never been struck down on equal protection grounds. This step was to reduce the draw factor of “and you can get away with doing whatever you want to the locals”.
I liked the Badnarik platform on immigration:
1. It is easy to enter legally
2. If you are here illegally, you are a foreign invader and will be treated as such, up to and including being shot on sight (that part for those actively crossing the border at the time).
I don’t like #1. Especially not with the welfare state intact.
If we had an electorate that was willing to give Badnarik the majority of the EC votes, I don’t think the welfare state would be intact for long.
the Badnarik platform
Ah, the good old days, when the LP still nominated libertarians.
He may be the best candidate I have ever voted for for President.
Is he running some reverse anti-EU campaign in an effort to get the whole thing to collapse? Because I can’t think of a better sound-bite for an anti-EU politician to come up with than what he just uttered.
How much does this asshole hate the native populations and cultures to do this to them? He can’t possibly think that a hold of unvetted immigrants from the Middle East and Africa are going to contribute to the economy or society in any positive way.
Western Europe is sinking into chaos and this guy is angry that Eastern Europe is refusing to follow.
Assumes fact not in evidence: that Eurocrats in Belgium give a damn about the actual consequences of their policies other than the social approval or approbation of their like-minded peers.
Dimitris needs to stretch a rope. I bet that shit would come to a screeching halt if that were to happen a few time to that piece of shit and his ilk.
“…mass migration is an issue Brussels has committed Europe to “for the long haul”, stating: “Migration is deeply intertwined with our policies on economics, trade, education and employment — to name just a few.””
“Like it or not we are actively bringing them here.” By ‘you cannot stop’ he means fuck you we are doing it whether you want it or not.
I’m still trying to figure out why none of these refugees can go to one of the other Muslim countries in the region.
I know that if there were some massive upheaval in the United States and I had to leave, I’d rather go to Canada than Saudi Arabia.
Most of these “Refugees” are not originating in the conflict zone.
Most of these people are there for the free shit and to bring the worst of their culture to these countries they look down upon. It’s like the migration of progs from their failing blue states to red ones in the US: it always leads to bad shit for wherever they go.
I had one of them explain that if bring in all these people that don’t work, you have more people in favor a of a welfare state, and all you have to do is milk the productive even harder, because somehow you make it up on volume or something…
The thing is that the socialist model depends on bodies. The locals are not making enough bodies. Hence the import of people that have a viable interest in keeping a welfare state.
McArdle:
So before we throw too many more people into Coventry, we’d better figure out if there isn’t some better middle way. Perhaps we need a truth and reconciliation commission in which men whose offenses fell into a gray area are allowed to confess their mistakes and move on with a promise to do better in the future.
Yeah, okay. That should work.
Shouldn’t they need to purchase some indulgences too? That way we can make sure that they have repented correctly.
And for those who are legitimate piece of shits, all they need to do is publicly confess their sins and all will be forgiven?
Depends on their politics and relative wealth, I’d assume.
This is tongue-in-cheek, right? I can never tell.
No, McArdle was an OG cosmotarian. This is just more accepting their premises, and trying to hang bunting on the gallows the SJWs are building.
RC gets it
Jane Galt, cosmo? No way!
So…struggle sessions.
Nice.
“Perhaps we need a truth and reconciliation commission”
Needs a snappier name. Ministry of ____________?
Track Palin beats up his dad, Sarah calls the police, then drives away. Track calls the police “peasants”.
I wish McCain/Palin had won in 2008.
President Toomah!
Maybe she reads the cop articles here and TOS – people get shot when cops show up. Hopefully she loaded the pets into the car.
If John was still here, he could relive his Palin white knighting days.
I fondly remember Eric Dondero touting her as the next great libertarian-republican hope back in 2007.
“fondly” I need to check the Webster’s definition on that.
I’d say the second defintion could work.
I have to admit that I really enjoyed toying with Eric. He was an utter prat, and earned all the abuse he received.
Then someone at TOS broke him and got him to post his cell phone number so that they could set up a fight or something.
After that, toying with him wasn’t fun anymore. There is no honor in outsmarting the retarded.
Then someone at TOS broke [them]
In retrospect, this sort of thing happened a lot.
Love or hate John, he managed to bait Mary into finally outing xerself as a raging psycho.
But it did lead to registration.
In the linked ADN story:
Once again, don’t pull out a firearm to confront someone if you’re not going to use it. If you’re not willing to pull the trigger (and I really don’t blame a father for not wanting to do so), it’s just 2 pounds of lead and steel. Not very effective for anything.
BS Veterans Courts.
Are you kidding? If Obama lost, we never would have been able to experience living in the wonderful post-partisan, post-racial America we live in today. Plus, we’d have had to deal with President Hillary in 2012.
This is tongue-in-cheek, right? I can never tell.
Based on the article in its entirety, I’m going with, “No.”
1) Confess your sins
2) Debase yourself before the high Priestesses
3) Take your place at the pyre

” Statistics on workplace harassment are all over the map. A recent Newsweek/Wall Street Journal poll found that 48% of American women had been sexually harassed at work. Time.com ran with this statistic in a video showing American women at work in laboratories, factories and offices.
It then declared: “Almost Half of the Working Women in America Have Been Harassed on the Job,” accompanied by images of a menacing Harvey Weinstein — suggesting that vast numbers of American women are plagued by Weinstein-like predation.
Except upon closer scrutiny, the Newsweek/WSJ poll showed nothing of the kind. It defined “harassment” very broadly. And women were asked if they had ever received “unwelcome sexual advances” at any point in their working lives. It did not distinguish between minor incidents and more serious cases of actionable harassment. And no time limit was given.
The General Social Survey is one of the most trusted sources of data in the social sciences. In 2014, a random sample of Americans was asked a straightforward question: “In the last 12 months, were you sexually harassed by anyone while you were on the job?”
To that question, only 3.6% of women said yes. That is down from 6.1% in 2002. These results do not suggest an epidemic. Nor even a trendline moving in the wrong direction.”

It defined “harassment” very broadly.

Problematic!!

Oh look, a German wrote a book.
“Get ‘Em While They’re Young
German writer Bini Adamczak’s Communism for Kids is a paean for the ideology written in the form of a children’s story. As its translator into English noted in the New York Times, the book seeks to convey the virtues of communism in a much simpler way than is usually done by economists, political scientists and policy experts. This involves cute animations of a talking factory, whose obsession with producing more and more stuff makes its workers very unhappy indeed.”

You know what other German wrote a book?
*Looks around for PBR*
Günter Grass?
You’re not fooling anyone PBTundra!
Clausewitz?
I don’t know which one is verboten in this game! Given the context, I’m gonna play it safe and say
Martin Luther?
Heinrich Von Klieist ?
Karl Marx?
Hermann Hesse?
Theodore Geisel?
Couch it in all the abstruse jargon and historical illiteracy you like, it’s no more impressive a philosophy than reduced to a story told to children involving a talking factory.
Fucking mooks, every one of them.
Throughout the book, Adamczak’s staggering illiteracy of basic economic theory becomes increasingly apparent. This is the actual step-by-step account she provides of why capitalism necessarily always leads to its own destruction:
Companies compete with each other by producing more products and reducing their prices.
Most companies eventually can no longer compete, go bankrupt, and fire their workers, which increases unemployment.
The surviving companies keep producing more products, assuming that future demand will always keep rising.
But people can’t afford them, because of increasing unemployment.
All companies eventually go bankrupt because no one can buy their products.
Society is left with lots of excess products in a big heap that nobody can afford.
HAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAA
Wrong.
A company which has unsold inventory will not just keep making more of the unsold product and will step down production to avoid losing money on making things that aren’t sold. They only make more of something when they keep moving the product.
Also, you only get one shot at employment in your lifetime. If you get fired, just once, you will never work again. Rver!
The “shoe event horizon.”
Logic mega-fail.
I don’t think a single one of those statements is categorically true.
Does it advise kids on how to turn in their parents if they any signs of wrongthink?
Seriously, dead bodies piled in the millions and communism still isn’t reviled the way Nazism is. Amazing.

“Another motive seems lurking in the background too, and it is insidious. The millennial generation does not like being wrong. They are unaccustomed to it. Their education – a unique blend of No Child Left Behind, helicopter parenting, and oppression olympics, has made them uncomfortable with Socratic criticism. When my colleague recently corrected the grammar on a student’s essay, the student scolded him for enacting “microaggressions” against her syntax. So, conspiracies no doubt seem especially attractive when they help to reinforce a student’s infallibility. Having an alternate dimension of Mandela Effect realities, for example, means the student is never wrong. I’m always right, it’s just reality that keeps changing.
There are two cures for all this bad thinking. One of them is out of our hands as educators, and involves growing up. While the demands of adult life are sometimes delayed – as graduates return to live at home and postpone starting families – there is an inevitable diminution of conspiracy indulgence when one is struggling to pay a mortgage, raise children, and otherwise succeed in the quotidian challenges of middle class. Interestingly, however, this reduction in wacky thinking is not provided by the light of reason and educational attainment, but rather by the inevitable suppression or inhibition resulting from the demands of the workaday world. Our students at 30-something and 40-something are not converts to rationality, but merely distracted from their old adventures in gullibility.
The other cure for conspiracy thinking, and the problems of too little and too much information, is something we educators can provide. And it’s relatively cheap. We could require an informal logic course for every undergraduate, preferably in their freshman or sophomore year. The course should be taught by philosophers or those explicitly trained in logic. I’m not talking about some vague ‘critical thinking’ course that has been robbed of its logic component. I’m talking about learning to understand syllogisms, fallacies, criteria for argument evaluation, deduction, induction, burden of proof, cognitive biases, and so on. The informal logic course (as opposed to formal symbolic logic) uses real life arguments as instances of these fundamentals, focusing on reasoning skills in social and political debate, news, editorials, advertising, blogs, podcasts, institutional communications, and so on. The students are not acquiring these skills by osmosis through other courses. It needs to be made explicit in the curriculum.
Studying logic gives students a way to weight the information that is coming at them. It gives them the tools to discriminate between competing claims and theories. In the currently frantic ‘attention economy,’ logic also teaches the patience and grit needed to follow complex explanations through their legitimate levels of depth. It won’t matter how sensitive to diversity our students become, or how good their self-esteem is, if a lack of logic renders them profoundly gullible. More than just a curative to lazy conspiracy thinking, logic is a great bulwark against totalitarianism and manipulation. The best cure for fake news is smarter citizens.”

“Studying logic gives students a way to weight the information that is coming at them”
What, and undo all that hard work by Commie educators teaching them that feelz are more important than anything? Why would we want to do that?
Serious question: Was logic historically a part of a college’s core curriculum, at least for the Gen-Xers and Baby Boomers? The author here makes it sound as if it wasn’t, but I know when I was getting my undergrad I had a pretty healthy dose of education in logic through a mandatory course in Philosophy, and I graduated in 2012. Granted, I also attended a service academy, so my experience is far from ordinary.
I think the author here is dead-on, though. Seems like what would happen when a generation is raised to emote instead of think.
The only logic that was part of my required curriculum was Binary logic. Probably why I don’t see the casual OR as an XOR.
I’m a young Gen-Xer and at least one logic course was required for everyone at my undergrad. It could either be taught in the Math department (for eng/science majors) or the philosophy department (for everyone else). They’ve probably gotten rid of it by now.
Logic, grammar, and rhetoric (the Trivium) used to be a standard part of a liberal education in medieval times. I’m not sure when it fell out of favor.
philosophy/logic requirement for this ’97 grad
Undergrad in 06. I took multiple higher math courses that covered logic (required for my Chemistry degree) and a philosophy course. The philosophy course was geared towards logic as a concept but was offered as a “cultural enrichment” elective.
I briefly was liberal arts major at university of Iowa before dropping out, i don’t remember how many credits were required but I only needed a couple credits from mathematics which included philosophy.

Yeah, I kinda couldn’t read the rest of the article after seeing that.
I went ahead and read the rest of it. That is quite a few notches above weapons grade stupidity.
Why is a marching band politicized?
NYT uses this image to illustrate an article about what they describe as a Chinese program to curb global warming carbon emissions.
That’s pollution, Baby.
Pfft. India’s way worse than that.
I think we need to start selling this sign.
https://twitter.com/SirScatters/status/942998746438230017
Of course posting that sign counts as sexual harassment.
The article
China is the world’s No. 1 polluter. It burns more coal than the rest of the world combined. It produces more than a quarter of the world’s human-caused global warming gases, nearly as much as North America and Europe put together.
On Tuesday, the country set out to claim another title that reflects its ambitions to change all that: keeper of the world’s largest financial market devoted to cleaning up the air.
China released plans on Tuesday to start a giant market to trade credits for the right to emit planet-warming greenhouse gases. The nationwide market would initially cover only China’s vast, state-dominated power generation sector, which produced almost half of the country’s emissions from the burning of fossil fuels last year.
I, of course, cannot help wondering if this is explicitly an effort to cut smog, but is being portrayed by the NYT in a manner which suits their global warming narrative. Because the NYT is nothing, if not scrupulously honest.
Why is the only person challenging Paul Ryan for the GOP nomination for his Congressional seat an actual Nazi? (Not meaning the left’s definition of Nazi; dude’s an actual Neo-Nazi)

They want to call everyone to the right of Ezra Klein a Nazi, so they may as well give him one?
First Trump, now Jill Stein colluding with Russians. When will it end?
Glad I refreshed.
Also notable is that Stein was a beneficiary of some of the ad buys ostensibly tied to the Kremlin. Really tarnishes the overwrought connection between Trump and Russian political ads.
You see, Stein only appealed to potential Clinton Voters, by buying her Ads, the Russians drained votes from Hillary and handed the election to Trump!
/Frothing Prog.
You know who else colluded with the Russians…
Julius and Ethel Rosenberg?
Ted Kennedy?
The UAW?
Professor Oxley, unwittingly?
R establishment to D establishment- we’ll scratch your back if you scratch ours.
Journos have spun the “Russian election interference!!1!!!” story out as though it was some remarkable and heretofore unheard of behavior by a foreign govt; as tho *very low-level internet fuckery* weren’t the constant state of affairs for the past decade+, and has been occurring nonstop in various ways since the internet was born.
the F-Secure report on Russian cyber-espionage activity which came out in 2015 provided far more detail than anything the FBI or press has done, and what it shows is a steady, constant level of minor rat-fucking and snooping.
iow, nothing Russians did in 2016 was any different than what they did for years and years beforehand.
and nothing Russians did comes remotely close to the kind of shit the US has done to other people.
in short, the stuff everyone is freaking out about as some ‘unprecedented’ activity is actually just boring, everyday stuff that foreign govts do to one another *because its cheap and because they can*
Not one writer for any publication has ever actually said this. Some people have touched on the “well but we do it too” thing, but nothing which clarified:”This shit is all trivial and meaningless”
the book seeks to convey the virtues of communism in a much simpler way than is usually done by economists, political scientists and policy experts.
I note also that they omit historians. Just a trifling oversight.
Even having known a Keynesian, I’ve yet to meet an economist who attributed any virtues to communism.
i just figured it meant historians properly convey the virtues of communism.
So brave.

“Prices are sticky, downward.”
But not that sticky. What a maroon.
Also assumes that with the rampant increase in output that the efficient companies don’t hire a soul (even though I already spoke to the absurdity of the “always increase output until dead” supposition). They also ignore the potential for the unemployed to start their own businesses or to change fields, assuming that 100% of them will sit around bemoaning the fact that they’re now starving and do nothing.
Anchorage Veterans Court
Nothing says “equal protection under the law” quite like establishing a separate justice system for the King’s Men. This isn’t as bad as the cops in major cities and their separate justice systems.

How in the ever-loving fuck is this even remotely constitutional?
Do you ask these questions because you enjoy the “Because FYTW” response you’ll inevitable receive?
They have these in AZ too. Here, it is part of a homeless integration program.
Because the constituion does not lay out how the courts must be structured beyond the existance of a supreme court, nor define the scope of their jurisdictions, leaving that to the political arms to define. Thus, granting a particular court jurisdiction over a particular class of person is not facially unconsctitional, but might be unconstitutional as applied if it does not apply the law in the same way, or apply the same standards.

Serious question: Was logic historically a part of a college’s core curriculum, at least for the Gen-Xers and Baby Boomers?
I went to college in the mid ’70s. There was not an explicit “Logic 101” requirement (although I took an intro to logic class which I found to be very useful), BUT-
No professor I had, in any department, would permit sloppy thinking or completely baseless and erroneous conclusions to pass unchallenged. They might let you explain your reasoning, but two plus two was always and everywhere equal to four.

Bright side: She and her husband have no kids, limiting the collateral damage when they divorce.

This also brings me back to one of my pet theories; geometry is an excellent foundation on which to build an appreciation for rational, logical thought.

Possibly the creepiest story of 2017. A government that knows everything about you and can “nudge” everything about you. How many Americans would just cream their jeans to see such a system implemented here?
Fuck. that. noise. We need to bring back drawing and quartering just for social engineers.
We’ll see progressives advocating for it in five years, and lauding the good tech companies that made it possible.
“Progressives” have already shown a fawning admiration for Chinese-style totalitarianism. I distinctly remember some dipshit columnist bemoaning that “in China, they just get stuff done” without all the “obstructionism”.
I thought that was Prince Trudy II of Canukistan who said that.
