Norwegian Blue, in’it?
This is a former bird!
It’s just pining for the fjords.
Well, he should be careful that it doesn’t just VOOM out of that grave.
I can’t watch with the volume on (at work) so I’ll just assume there’s some sick trap music playing in the background.
No, just a benediction (I presume) and some sniffling.
Yeah, pretty much “I love you, thank you, I hope you have many blue skies to fly in, much luck in your future endeavors.”
In happier times…
I guess I can see how you could get pretty attached to a bird. One of my cats died this summer and I’ll admit I was pretty broken up about it.
Mike Tyson is huge into raising pigeons. Like to the point he once beat the shit out of a bully for ripping the head off a pigeon and spilling it’s blood on it just to taunt him.
For you HM, I bring the gift of Derp
My Asian woman fetish.
Because harping on perceived stereotypes totally doesn’t perpetuate them.
Ugh. Full derp.
For everyone else, also the gift of derp

University teaches white employees how to overcome the ‘discomfort’ of being white
https://www.thecollegefix.com/post/40145/
***
Participants who took part in the “Conversations on Whiteness” session, held December 5 during the university’s Student Life Professional Development Conference, were taught to “recognize the difficulties they face when talking about social justice issues related to their White identity, explore this discomfort, and devise ways to work through it,” the university’s website states.
The goal was to help participants in “unpacking Whiteness” to support students and staff with issues and efforts “related to identity and social justice,” the website added.
The “Conversations on Whiteness” session was one of more than a dozen workshops offered at the conference, held Dec. 4 and 5. The whiteness session utilized the “Privileged Identity Exploration Model” to help white participants explore the “discomfort” of their “white identity,” according to organizers.
First introduced in 2007 by University of Iowa professor Sherry Watt in a College Student Affairs Journal article, the model purports to be a method for understanding how people react to stimuli that alert them of the privilege they hold. The model is to be used by “facilitators” to “engage participants in discussions about diversity,” according to Watt.
Watt states there are eight defenses people use to avoid recognizing their privilege. Examples of defenses include “denial,” where someone simply refuses to admit their privilege, and “minimization,” where someone trivializes the impact of their privilege.

Why should being white cause me discomfort?
Sunburn?
nice.
Damn.
I’ll have that cured in 5-10 years.
Sunburn, for starters.
Juuust a bit outside!
“I’m sorry, this makes me uncomfortable” ought to shut this nonsense down but for some reason won’t.
Can I go to these meetings in full Grand Wizard of the Knights costume, as that would bring me comfort?
I will not be like “sorry”
I got called a Grey haired old man today, but my Hair is White, does this count?
I would pay good money to watch one of these morons lecture blue-collar white-male workers on their privilege. I would also supply the rotten fruit & veggies to the audience.
Many will try to make me recognize my privilege with Tiger claw, or Crane attacks: I utilize Preying Mantis, or Drunken Monkey, and their technique is no match for mine.
I knew this would be Wu Tang.
I was thinking this instead.
Watt should really examine his “counting privilege.” Not everyone can count to eight, at least without taking their shoes off.
Gil, you gotta watch out for Black Dynamite’s Panther Fist

Comedian Sarah Silverman recently wrapped the first season of her variety series “I Love You America,” in which she tries to find common ground with people who have differing political opinions. Now she’s reflecting on what the experience has taught her with regards to patriotism and religion in America.
…
“Patriotism is perverted. We’re not on the same page of what it means. To me, being patriotic is loving your country — being a citizen, having a voice, being e pluribus unum. How perverted it is to go from ‘We are one’ to ‘We are number one,’ which is such a childish idea,” she continued, arguing that Donald Trump falls into the category of “childish.”
Silverman accused the president of stopping his emotional growth at eight years old, while marveling at his ability to claim the presidency anyway.
Her comments weren’t just reserved for criticism of the American right. The star touched on religion as well, arguing that the right paints American muslims with a broad brush while the left does the same with Christianity.
“Like patriotism, religion can be sometimes used as a weapon, or to support someone’s own narrative or fears and prejudices. These Christian-fringe, Roy Moore, do-what-I-say- not-what-I-do people––they’re not very Jesus-like. I see them as fringe the way I see ISIS as fringe,” she said.

Sweden to raise retirement age to pay for Muslim migration
https://www.jihadwatch.org/2017/12/sweden-to-raise-retirement-age-to-pay-for-muslim-migration
***
Although the deceitful Organization of Islamic Cooperation says that Europe needs mass Muslim migration to pay its pensions, in reality it’s the other way around. For example: out of the 1.2 million migrants who flooded into Germany in 2016, only “34,000 or 2.8% have found a job,” while only one-third of 1% found jobs in Sweden. In Britain, migrants were found to be “a net drain…on the order of between £115 and £160 billion.” Still, Akeel makes a broad sweep and accuses “right wing parties” of lying about immigration “from the third world.”
By mid-century, according to Pew Research stats, it’s all over for Sweden: 30.6 percent of the population is projected to be Islamic. With the calls now for Sweden to raise retirement age to pay for Muslim migrants on welfare, imagine what the economic situation of the country, and its overall condition, will be like then.

That’s an unpleasant reality.
Yes, they’re losing money on each one, but they can make up for it in volume.
Eh, who cares? All of the smart Scandinavian people came here generations ago. They can take their cheap particle board furniture and fuck right off.
Will Wilkinson disagrees.
Does he have Billy shelves in his library?
Will Wilkinson also believes that having David Frum and Egg Mcmuffin on Niskanen’s advisory board lends a sheen of respectability. In other words, he’s stump-dumb.
Immigration will make them wealthier any minute now.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I believe peak derp has been reached.
I give you the NR / Charles Cooke fisking, but even I won’t venture into the Salon-swamp for first-hand observation. My derp-o-meters have already pegged even at this distance.
There is no such thing as Peak Derp. There is no such thing as Peak Stupid.
This is all so confusing.
If you believed your government was behind 9/11, why would you be in favor of surrendering your guns to them?
Why did I watch that video?
Something about Peak Stupid?
[ducks and runs]
See! I proved my point!
No, he said Beak Stupid.
When does the senate vote on the tax bill?
I think they’re voting now…11pm Eastern.
House re-voting tomorrow.
I buried my parakeet in the yard, you asshole!
Disclosure: there was no family picture in the burial plot, nor was there a video.
I did have to give the contractor a heads up when we poured the patio, though.
Did they have to perform an exhumation and reinternment?
“Hey, Kramer! I dug Fredo up, now let’s cut him open!”
Fredo was stupid and weak! He shouldn’t have eaten that key!
No idea. This contractor was unsavory, and therefore, in my price range.
Sure, you told him it was a parakeet, but he really has no idea what is buried under that concrete. [Touches side of nose] Smart businessman.
Are those back alley abortion places lucrative? Asking for a friend.
Yes. As long as you are smart about it and don’t waste money on frivolities such as disinfectants and anesthetics. And for goodness sake, don’t spend a dime on marketing.

That guy is from from Alabama? LOL
Here I’m considering giving up my Boston to a better home than I can provide. No yard, no playmates, and my tight schedule. I’ve had this dog for six years, and if I have to give him up… I’ll probably be fine with it. I’ve not been especially sentimental about an animal since the dog and cat both croaked in the same week when I was fourteen.
Of course, when my ex revealed she was moving out to live with her mom across the country, I went from shocked and forlorn to measuring out how I’d fill all the new space overnight, so… maybe I just don’t do sentimentality.
Libertarian.
giving up an animal is hard though. It’s not easy, and i wish you luck in that decision.
At first I thought the city of Boston had become too expensive for you to live in, and you were moving out.
It wasn’t till the third sentence till it was clear it was about your dog. Sorry to hear the sad tale, hope things work out OK.
umm ,wow bummer to have to do that I don’t think I could
I don’t understand why people keep birds as pets.
It’s easier to fatten them up if they think you are feeding them out of love.
I probably will not find anything dumber today than this:

To many, it seems obvious that money-printing by central banks is what produces hyperinflation. But even if this is happening, it would be wrong to automatically assume that the former causes the latter. Central banks may simply be accommodating the public’s desire for more currency to spend, as prices spiral upward, in a desperate (but usually doomed) attempt to keep the economy from grinding to a complete halt. Whatever kicks off the hyperinflation might have little to do with the actions of the monetary authority.

Larf!
*two-handed facepalm*
I’d need to be a Hindu god to facepalm properly.
How I wish I had endless faces to head desk with. That would be Derpvana.
I have a real-life dumber example:
A coworker came in to the office I share with his supervisor today looking like his best friend just died. Supervisor asks him what’s wrong. He tells us that him and the wife have been going around about his drinking. Now, according to him it’s not terrible. A “couple” beers on Tuesday nights after hockey, and then a good drunk on one weekend night. That’s still too much for the wife.
So what does she do? She called CPS! Told them that her kids Dad (they are married) is drinking too much. He had just gotten back from a mandated alcohol assessment. I’ve never taken one, but from what he -and other people I know- have said, they are apparently written by teetotalers. If you enjoy social drinking with friends (like this guy) you are guaranteed to be at least a “level 1” alcoholic.
The kids are approx 4 and 2. So this fucking idiot wife of his just invited the government parent police into their lives for the next 16 years. That is some world class stupid.
Why doesn’t she just invite the cops over for a “look see” while she’s at it.
Divorce.
Yeah. I think she saw it coming and played the nuclear option for the kids. People that use children as pawns in their adult issues piss me off to no end. That’s about the worst thing you can do without causing actual physical harm
At least the kids are young enough that he couldn’t have gotten too attached.
Exactly. Kinda like a dead parakeet.
it’s actually probably worse than physical harm.
I can’t say for sure, but it seems like the people who do that sort of thing convince themselves that it isn’t bad, and therefore, they do it often.
Just as I suspected. Wet streets cause rain.
Lefty twit gushes over Soviet education system; forgets to mention Holodomor.
https://www.jacobinmag.com/2017/12/red-diaper-babies
***
Lucy Wilson was an American educator who interviewed hundreds of Russian teachers working around the world and visited the USSR twice in the 1920s. In a book recording her observations of “the new Russia,” she described both utter deprivation and a sense of incredible possibility. Teachers who didn’t have paper and pencils instead took children on field trips and nature walks, and “everywhere, every pleasant day, in the streets, round the town walls, in public buildings, in industrial establishments, in museums, in art galleries, may be seen groups of school children of all ages, oblivious of the world, absorbed in seeing and understanding.” The early Bolshevik school system more closely resembled the experimental “real city as school” vision of anarchists like Paul Goodman than it did anything out of 1984.
In capitalist societies like the United States, where public schools are increasingly used as tax-funded training camps for corporate workplaces, curriculum and standards focus more on preparing children for the demands of adulthood than on their immediate needs and development. Tech CEOs from Bill Gates to Mark Zuckerberg to Tim Cook have advocated that coding be taught starting as young as kindergarten, and policymakers like Obama agree (meanwhile, the trendiest private schools in Silicon Valley don’t allow computers in the classroom). In America, school is preparation for “real” life. In the early Soviet Union, the school was life; maybe even more real than the adult world outside its doors.
…
Another American who toured the Soviet Union with a group of educators in 1927, John Dewey, was convinced that the Bolsheviks were attempting on a large scale a democratic project which had only been tried by philanthropists and private schools in the United States. Dewey was called a communist dupe by conservatives for his praise of Soviet educators, but the admiration was mutual: Nadezhda Krupskaya, the influential deputy Commissar of Education, read and enjoyed discussing his work, and School and Society was official recommended reading for Soviet teachers. Dewey documented his observations on unofficial excursions as well as official tours of “model” schools, which during famine and civil war served as articulations of what every Soviet school of the future should look like — inside schools and out, he wrote, children’s work was taken seriously and always intended to culminate in authentic participation in social life.

Yeah…
Literally Hitler.
I wish school had prepared me for life. All I did was waste the last six years when I could have had a job polishing monacles and learning an actual skill.
The tax-funded training camps part is correct. That’s about it.
So, if any of you have a Rift, download the Amaze 3D Videos (free) and play the video ‘Dance with Magga on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame’. You can thank me now or later. But I can tell you if you think VR is a fad, you’re going to be changing your mind quickly.
Here’s a clue, but it can’t even come close to the experience in VR, wow!
Dance with Magga
I was sold on a Rift by trying the demo of The Climb at a best buy. Just not sold on the cost yet. Would need a rather hefty PC upgrade in addition to the Rift.
Such a weird feeling looking down from the platform and even though you know its completely fake, you still have that self preservation instinct to not move left or right because you’ll fall off.
If VR doesn’t take off, I suggest it will probably be because of the weird sensations like that.
The major complaints I hear about VR is that what you’re seeing isn’t what you’re feeling. Your eyes are telling you you’re moving, but your inner ear disagrees, and that can lead to some nausea. It gives a lot of people motion sickness.
It occurred to me just now that the slavery and mass murder based economy of Zardoz is more productive and stable then some actual countries. Even sci-fi writers can’t imagine something as screwed up as communism.
On a side note, you’d think a society technologically advanced enough to build flying stone heads and unlimited firearms would not need slaves to grow food.
watch it Derp, ZardoZ has Enforcers everywhere, they are all seeing, and no one Escapes

Interesting potential tie-in with that Obama/Hezbollah story that the press is so studiously ignoring – the Awans, those industrious IT staffers for Congressional Dems, ran a used car dealership that was apparently a Hezbollah
money laundering operation . That would certainly go a long way toward explaining the bizarre way the DNC handled all that stuff.
Ho lee shit. That’s intense.
Or it would be if the link worked.
This?
Unreal.
You couldn’t make this shit up. No one would believe it.
If this had happened on the Republican side, there would already be plans to make it into a wacky caper screw-up Oscar-bait movie demonstrating depravity and hypocrisy, along the lines of The Big Short or The Wolf of Wall Street, with Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Aziz Ansari.
(D) side? Meh, not interesting or newsworthy, especially to Hollywood. No real story there, you know.
Thank you. I invariably screw up the link when I post from my phone.

I don’t think people appreciate what would happen if you hit the wash of a GP7200 in one of those…. homemade (?) “personal aircraft”.
Yeah, they talk about it a little in this vid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFCQJ5sYGtI
Every move was choreographed: including camera, chase, and drop off aircraft.
Amazing. It makes me happy that there are still people that do this stuff.
Plenty of people still do this kind of stuff. It is just that it is usually preceded by, “Hold my beer and watch this. “
I larfed.
I don’t think people appreciate what would happen if you hit the wash of a GP7200 in one of those…. homemade (?) “personal aircraft”.
If I were President Trump, I might say that some of those Arabs could use a good wash.
The senate has voted.
Praise Covfefe, Rand Paul didn’t fuck it up this time!
Sometimes, it seems like stuff like this can’t happen. The last time something like this happened, Reagan was President. I wasn’t sure I’d see it again in my lifetime, and all my grandparents lived to be about 90.

Connection of Excalibur to Gib Central Command, anyone, anyone?
The correct answer is . . .
Oh, come on! Somebody knows the answer.
Oh but if I went ’round sayin’ I was Emperor, just because some moistened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they’d put me away.
Was that the quote you were looking for?
The correct answer is “John Boorman”.
John Boorman directed both Excalibur and Zardoz.
That’s the connection to Glib Central Command.

Senate passes tax bill
Okay, so you said it in fewer words–big deal.
I said the same thing!
I think all the east coast people are asleep.
. . . or fornicating or whatever.
So, with the individual mandate gone, what are the chances that I’ll be able to save some money by buying health insurance that doesn’t include fertility counselling, prenatal dental care, or substance abuse treatment?
We can’t get rid of that or cut $772 billion in Medicaid spending because Rand Paul and his five merry men in the senate say that wouldn’t be doing enough.
I’m trying not to be too cynical on this because I’m glad Rand Paul and his henchmen in the senate dropped that crap and voted fro tax reform.
On the other hand, we’d be rid of that and $1.022 trillion in entitlement spending if they’d taken the same tack on the ObamaCare replacement.
Everyone should note–when Susan Collins is the last vote needed, she caved. No reason to think she wouldn’t have done the same thing on the ObamaCare replacement if put in the same situation.
