Basketball is back today! And Duke is still out of the tournament, which should be cause for celebration to any decent human being. Anyway, here are your links for the day (or the patties for people like Ted S, because we strive to give you what you want)…

Islamist asshole responsible for London terrorist attack.
Some puzzle pieces are being put together in London after the terrorist attack yesterday. Several arrests have been made in connection with the English-born man of middle eastern descent. Radical Islamism is his motive, though no connection to a particular group has been established at this point.
Devin Nunes, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, is giving some credence to President Trump’s claims that he was “wiretapped”. Democrats accuse him of playing politics because he told the White House before he told them. I guess they wanted their talking points in order before the tweets started going out.

Clean and sober.
Ben Domenech argues that the real threat to free speech is corporate.
Woody Harrelson has given up the demon weed after 30+ years.
Chicago leads population loss in American cities. Windy City sees population decline for second year in a row. (Sorry, Detroit. I know you tried.)
U.S.A.!!! U.S.A.!!! U.S.A.!!! Take that, Puerto Rico. Which is actually part of the U.S.A. But whatever, you got pasted last night.
Well, I hope these links got you feeling’ alright. They did the trick for me.
You seem to be very focused on this whole Duke thing. Did a bad person from Duke do something to you?
He is hoping to become an Archduke, he heard the last one got shot or something.
Show me where the shitlord touched you with the LaCrosse stick. Do they call them “sticks” in LaCrosse?
All people from Duke are badpeople
As someone who once worked for PhD from Duke, I can confirm this.
Looks who’s running for prosecutor.
Well, jeez. My best friend from high school is not badpeople.
Duke sucks. Their coach gets away with shit no other coach would attempt for fear of getting tossed, they recruit punks that try and injure opponents and Dick Vitale thinks they’re the greatest thing in the history of sports. That’s a trifecta of reasons to hate them. And it’s a good enough list for me.
I second this emotion.
I did not know so much hate existed outside the ACC, but I approve.
Rumor has it he once partied with the Lacrosse team there
As a Maryland alum and UMD employee, I fully support his stance on Duke’s shittiness. Also, it’s an objectively verifiable fact that Duke is the devil (duh, look at the mascot) and should be swept from the face of the Earth by hurricanes.
All the North Carolina mascots are signs of Satan. Blue Devil. Demon Deacon. Wolf. Goat.
Think about that.
“Chicago leads population loss in American cities. ”
They have a LOT of murders.
And this has absolutely nothing to do with decades of Democratic control and liberal policies. I blame the KKKorporations.
Are you implying that someone who sat at the right hand of Black Jesus might be an imperfect politician?
No, no, of course not, that would be blasphemy!
You can’t blame Democrats because murder also happen in places where Republicans are in charge.
Sin,
Sloopy’s prog friend.
Detroit probably has a lock on some population who are still hoping to get their years in service before they can retire to Florida.
Not to mention the people who want to become the gangs who run Bartertown once Detroit goes full Mad Max.
Who wants to help me collapse the tunnel to Canada and set up my toll station on the Ambassador Bridge? We’ll let someone else run Bartertown, but you have to pay to leave…
The referenda all make the same mistake – they have “Status Quo” as an option. The Statehood/Independance question could be resolved if the rest of us said “Enough of this ‘territorial status’, you’ve been on the fence since 1902”.
They want the status quo because they get to have all the perks and benefits of Uncle Sugar’s largesse with few of the responsibilities. Why the fuck would they change?
I am very pro- Puerto Riquenas.
If you ask HM nicely you may have some Puerto Riquenas latter today.
Yeah, it is Thicc Thursday, after all.
So what nationality is Luscious Lopez? I keep getting distracted,
Second.
Actually, the last referendum voted for statehood, but Congress ignored it.

Of course they did, who the hell wants to have to redesign the flag to have 51 states
They already did.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/51st_state
Doesn’t look too terrible.
The American New Flag Act of 2019 would only cost $208 billion to outfit all Federal builidngs with new 51-star flags. What’s not to love?
$208 billion? After we place tariffs on foreign manufacturing of American flags, we can top a trillion, easy. It’ll be the most patriotic stimulus ever!
New Zealand spent $NZ26 million over two years to not change it’s flag:

Seriously.
It gets confusing on geography quizzes.
Let them in, but merge 3 or 4 New England states to even things out a bit.
Also, implement the Last American Hero DC/Lateran Treaty plan so the folks in the District get adequate representation – as part of Maryland or Virginia.
Finally, Ditto on the Native Tribes on the fence sitting. Either you are a separate nation and cut off the teat or you are Americans and can get the same package deal as the white man.

Wow I heard you people complain about it, but I never knew deep dish is that bad.
Deep dish actually tastes pretty good, it’s just not pizza.
Concur
Agreed, tomato-bread casserole is absolutely delicious but pizza it ain’t.
You poor delusional people.
I know – the Flat Earthers of Pizza.
*opens Lou Malnati’s menu*
As I said, deep dish tastes good, but words have meanings, and deep dish is a casserole, not a pizza. It’s like like saying “I really prefer the French coq au vin version of southern fried chicken”.
I used to work with/for a guy who would order a Reuben hold the kraut and dressing, I asked him why he didn’t just get a grilled corned beef with swiss on rye, and he said he liked Reubens better.
The world is not ready for Romanian deep dish.
“Where do you put the lamb and cabbage?”

England has “Law of the Soil”, which means that if you are born within the kingdom’s boundaries, you are an English citizen.
Not sure how the United Kingom or Great Brirain handles the issue.
UK Citizenship law is not that lenient last I checked. The US is more or less the only country stupid enough to do things that way.
Meh companies can choose where they advertise for all sorts of reason, so if they decide to “virtue signal” over “bad speech”, this is not really a free speech issue, I don’t think.
So after a comment I made on the healthcare tax in Romania a few links ago, I thought to myself: “What are the taxes like in Romania” is the question absolutely no one around here would ask themselves. But I decided to share anyway because well why not.
Basically if we dispense with the bullshit employees share / employers share crap and consider a tax the difference between the money an employer pays and the money an employee receives, from the average Romanian wage about 44% goes to the government(including all payroll taxes fees etc for pensions, healthcare, unemployment, the works).
That reasonable? you may wonder. Well keep in mind Romania also has a 19% VAT, plus gas taxes that makes the cost about 4 dollars a gallon, car taxes, property taxes, alcohol taxes, all sorts of other fees when interacting with government.
That said the government gets about 25-30% of GDP in collected taxes, due to massive amounts of evasion and generally a lot of underground off the books economic activity. Due to high taxes on labor, many people simply work off the books, or have minimum wage officially and get extra money on the side, cash in an envelope to use the local expression. Also a lot of people create companies or declare themselves self-employed and simply bill their employer instead of having an employment contract and receiving a wage, thus reducing the taxes payed.
Doctors, for example, are payed peanuts, but can make a good amount of money in bribes. Some of the top surgeons could get more than a thousand dollars in bribes for a surgery. The funny part is that some banks had an unofficial policy of giving loans to doctors that would have been ludicrous given the official income of the doctor because they knew they made a lot more money off the books.
Jesus. That’s pretty steep.
“That reasonable? you may wonder.”
No, I dont wonder.
Well, at least you still have Adrian Mutu and Gheorghe Hagi, right?
And Campagnolo outsourced some of its operation to Romania. So that’s cool.
Drink!
Subsidies and only $1.5 million per fuel pump installation!
And a SugarFree’d link.
Anyone else notice that all green energies produce exponentially more GGs than the fossil fuel equivalent?
The fun irony is, if you regard Carbon Dioxide as plant food that resulting in a net greening, then the carbon-intensive energies from these initiatives might actually be “green” in the literal sense.
But that requires throwing out a tenet of the Warmist faith.

Ha ha. It’s the first button. The one with the a.
This amused me because, a while back at the Other Site, ENB was full of praise for this Jill Filipovic nitwit, how smart and insightful she is. To give you a flavor of how much of an imbecile this woman is, she flatly states that handguns didn’t exist at the time of the Constitution’s signing.
I like how she tried to walk it back with “no, no, I meant semi-automatic handguns like Heller referred to”.
See, when anyone goes “I’m a *insert term here, progressive, feminist, whatever* libertarian.” what they really mean is “I identify more with this tribal group than libertarianism, and will bend over backwards to defend it.”

He has used it a lot more often than you guys give Him credit for.

To be fair, oats do make up a good proportion of the mass of a traditional Haggis. It’s just everyone fixates on the parts of a sheep you’re not supposed to be scarfing down.
It defeats the bloody purpose of the thing. It was designed to get rid of offal. I’m going full Platonic on haggis.
You’re going to hang out in a cave?
I kind of doubt the is going to make Haggis palatable.
agreed. if i learned anything from Highlander, it’s that haggis is sheep’s stomach stuffed with barley and oats.. and Spanish peacocks find it revolting.

If you never lived in the “Triangle” area it is difficult to understand the enmity between NC State, UNC, Wake Forest and Duke. You can often tell people’s support by the color of their truck, interior of their house, mail box, front door etc. I was talking to a realtor while watching the NFL at a bar and he told me that people would not buy or sell a house because the other person supported the “wrong” school. He’d tell them that “You can paint the room.” and get a reply “But I’d know that [insert color] was under my color.”
Now that Duke is out I don’t have to think about basketball, which is good because I don’t care for basketball. To tell you Pie, part of my Duke hatred is tied to Coach K and his and his players sense of entitlement, part just for the general attitude of the school. Each of the four schools have a unique character and Duke likes to think of itself as the Harvard of the south with all the attitude that implies. Plus a bonus negative is the actions of the faculty and students during and after the Duke lacrosse incident which is still rage inducing.
Hey I hear you’re in Korea? Kinda sounded like it was temporary but the post was inconclusive.
I’m in Daejeon—where are you at?
I am in Seoul until Saturday. I will be back next month for a bit.
Why would they care that much in Richland, Kennewick and Pasco?
IIRC, the Pasco airport was the first west of the Mississippi.
That’s the Tri-Cities. I’ve never heard anyone refer to those three or the area as the Triangle.
This Google dust-up is a nice little demonstration of how full of shit the corporate PR world is. Not that examples of that are hard to come by.

It is a bit surprising to me that anyone thinks that slimy bastard Obum didn’t spy on Trump.
It’s surprising to me that they shrugged when Putin bribed HRC to make the uranium deal go through, but when information comes to light that some of Trump’s campaign staff may have, possibly, we don’t know, had some contact with Russia that we don’t really know what may or may not have had some impact on something somewhere they cry treason.
Actually, no it isn’t.

State…capitalism.
Favorite fruit of state capitalism? A purple orange.
State capitalism: home of the very brightest scientific spiritualist in the world.
That entire twitter account (Socialist Party of Great Britain) is golden. Once posted it on the other site.
They also think that North Korea, Cuba and Venezuela are capitalist. According to them, socialism has never been tried.
Meh, it’s standard far left rhetoric. Every failure doesn’t count, the only thing that’s real socialism is the masturbatory utopian dreamworld in my head.
And that is where they are wrong. Socialism, and Communism, have been tried – many times. The problem isn’t that they haven’t been tried, the problem is that there is no New Soviet Man and never will be. And when you put actual, real humans into that system, the inevitable result is oppression, cronyism, economic disaster, state-sanctioned murders, purges, gulags and all the rest. And even if you could populate a whole country with New Soviet Men, it would probably still fail as an economic system due to the knowledge problem. They would be poor and slightly less brutal.
They did have an asset owning elite. They were called the ruling party elite. That’s not capitalism, it’s a caste system.
What thy didn’t have was equal protection under the law, basic human rights, free speech, the right to self defense, any semblance of a fair court system, or the right to live without being in fear that you and your entire family could be picked up and shipped to a gulag at any moment because someone was suspicious about your undying devotion to the state.
That poster can go fuck himself. Those people died in the tens of millions under an oppressive boot. And he’s got the gall to say they had capitalism?
Harsanyi is mocking the idiotic Socialist Party of Great Britain. He’s the Other Site’s resident (((conservative))).
He retweeted The Socialist Party – Harsanyi’s reply is only on top.
Looks like my county gained people
http://nbc4i.com/2017/03/23/franklin-county-now-most-populous-area-in-ohio/
wow you own a whole county? nice …
The downside is that you still live in Ohio
ZIng!
I am in Delaware county. I’m sure we have more people too. They’re fricking everywhere now.
census to census growth rate for my county:
1950 +16.7%
1960 +6.4%
1970 +27.2%
1980 +24.1%
1990 +6.7%
2000 +20.7%
2010 +23.0%
Thru 2015 it was +8.0%, so looks like another double digit growth this census round, although probably not another 20+%. That some pretty hefty growth for a long period of time.
It’s less impressive when you look at the raw numbers:
1940 1000
1950 1167
1960 1241
1970 1578
1980 1958
1990 2089
2000 2521
2010 3100
/snark
More impressive that there are still only 9 families.
Lol

NO RUSH TO JUDGMENT.
Chicago leads population loss in American cities. Windy City sees population decline for second year in a row. (Sorry, Detroit. I know you tried.)
I generally agree that Chicago has been in a downward spiral, but I really don’t think that a twenty-something hipster beardo and his chubby librarian girlfriend are properly representative of the city at large. It’s reasonably safe to assume that at their age they probably only recently moved to the city to “slum it” (from the suburbs or Michigan or wherever), accidentally put a bun in the oven after a bender at The Hideout and are just now considering their long term prospects for the first time in their lives. I’m not denying that the city is experiencing a significant population decline (especially among blacks), but people like the ones profiled amount to nothing more than a rounding error.
Lots of the people I knew in my high school days ended moving to Chicago. It was – at least in the late 80s/early 90s – so hip compared to any Michigan town. I used to go there myself a lot to do shopping and restaurants; and I also had a lot of family there too.
Now? It’s been over a decade since I’ve to Chicago. Our restaurants are now just as foody, there are tons of breweries here, I can shop for whatever I want over the internet, and housing and living expenses are waaaay cheaper here.
I’m fortunate (smart?) enough to live in a part of the city that hasn’t yet been “discovered” by developers and hipster interlopers yet. It’s got plenty of needed amenities but is still very comfortably inexpensive and free of pretentious NIMBYs. If it gets overrun though, I’ll probably be hightailing the fuck out of here too.
Edison Park, I assume?
DON’T SAY THE NAME OUT LOUD! Hipsters might hear you.
No, though I’ve got some friends up there. I’m on the opposite end.
Ah yes, the mirror image of Edison Park, but on the South Side
Something that has occurred to me – cities are becoming more and more homogenous. Regional character is eroding more and more as they all seem to evolve more and more in the standard issue Stuff White People Like upscale yuppie way.
Good lord, three “more and more”s? I’m firing my editor.
I kind of like the cadence.
I completely agree with this. Most Chicago suburbs are far more diverse (income wise and ethnic wise) than the entire north side of Chicago. I hardly hear any Chicago accent in the city anymore. When I was younger I remember my friends’ dads all spoke that way. Now, I’m not so sure what the difference is, culturally, between Chicago and NYC. In fact, most of the hipster pizza places don’t even have deep dish pizza.
True – I hear very little of the ol’ Superfans style speech anymore.
I revert to it after a few drinks. I particularly like to say ‘tr’ in place of ‘th’. For instance, “I’m goin ta da batroom”. My wife hates it, so I continue, naturally.
The ultimate litmus is in how you pronounce “front room”.
I happen to pronounce it the correct way.
Same thing in a lot of places. Although I didn’t have the accent because I wasn’t a native-born son, the Richmond I grew up in was a southern city with southern accents (albeit Virginia southern accents, which tend to be softer and non-drawly, and in the upper classes almost like an English accent). You don’t hear that very much anymore around here.
“I hardly hear any Chicago accent in the city anymore.”
Come to Phoenix, you’ll hear it EVERY FUCKING DAY!
AND TAKE YOUR SHITTY BASEBALL TEAM WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE!
Just wanted to add that you’re completely correct about how major cities have lost almost all of their cultural cachet in the past decade. There’s pretty much nothing that I can get in a place like Chicago or New York that can’t be had anywhere else.
The music scene in Chicago was/is way more diverse than here – diverse to the point of being splintered into little factions.
At least here in the metropolis of Grand Rapids, the punk scene was so small that everyone – skinheads, punks, crusties, alternative kids – ended up a the same show since there was nowhere else to go!
There are hardly any families left in Chicago, which probably accounts for a lot of the population loss. Over the past twenty years, the whole northwest side of the City has had their family neighborhoods either gentrified or deteriorate into slums. This is one of many reasons why CPS is so bankrupt. Their enrollment has precipitously declined while union contracts make it difficult to close schools and eliminate teaching positions.
Yup. I know one family gamely clinging to Edgebrook, but everyone else is now in Kane, DuPage or far western Cook.
I golf in Edgebrook. They really cleaned up Caldwell after they privatized it. Libertarian moment!
REPORT: Wealthiest colleges are worst free speech offenders
Just more evidence that our current cultural predicament is a result of our own affluence.
I TOTALLY didn’t see that coming.
Shocking. It is almost as if being disproportionately affluent negatively affects our ability to process and cope with discomfort and makes us unable to accept challenges to our understanding of the world.
Why do I see Sears as a good analogy for the future of the USA?
That entire article should be one word. “Amazon”.
How long has Sears been dying now? Two decades?
It has sucked since Bull Durham.
About that, yes. I was hoping they would have gone bust earlier…..my Swiss Overlords could have scooped up their HQ campus, cheap.
Try 40 years.
Since they moved out of the Tower to Hoffman Estates. That was before 1997.
Relevant
“Why Amazon is better than Wal-Mart”
And Walmart/Target eating their low end clothing, Home Depot/Lowes eating up their tool and appliance departments, Best Buy eating up appliances and electronics…
They basically got picked apart by a number of competitors, and having the albatross known as KMart hung around their neck didn’t help.
Does anyone ever buy anything from Sears anymore?
I didn’t realize they sold Craftsman. I guess thats why you see Craftsman in other stores, now.
I worked for both Sears Home Improvement (selling vinyl siding and windows) and, later, in the lawn and garden and hardware sections of the stores. Sort of sad, really.
Reminds me of dead malls.
Malls croaking has certainly not helped Sears any.
I think its more the other way around.
Craftsman today is a pale shade of Craftsman 50 years ago. It really has been shit since the 80s.
If you can find the old stuff , though, it will last forever.
the hex wrench jackknife sets, with the metal case are the best. the new ones have plastic cases and are much bigger.
you can always trade old rusty craftsman stuff in for the new equivalent. Get old stuff from estate sale, keep the good stuff, trade the bad.
I used to stop at the Sears that is in a mall on my way home from work if I needed to pick up a tool for something I was doing. They often didn’t have what I needed, so I just stopped going there. And yeah, Amazon Prime with free 2-day shipping is awesome.
I used to go to Sears to buy appliances – back when the Kenmore brand meant something. The last time we went to the local Sears, the stock seemed really depleted. We were looking for bunk beds – and the salesman told my wife and I to order it online. I found a better deal (and higher quality product) on Amazon.
btw, that local Sears is now closing up after 40 some years of being there.
Unless they have a brand advantage (Nordstrom’s, Saks) department stores have too much inventory.
The key to longevity would’ve been to break up Sears itself into smaller branded houses.
A Craftsman store, for example, that sells nothing but Craftsman tools. The product may not be as good as it was, but the brand still has cache.
A Kenmore store for appliances. So on and so forth with the only the best brands surviving.
Separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak and lower you per-square-foot overhead costs.
Sears turned itself into a payday loan company 30 years ago.
I haven’t been inside a Sears in about a decade. The last time I was left with the impression that their executive leadership decided that “soul crushing” should be the goal for crafting the overall shopping experience.
There’s youtube videos of Milton Friedman on the Donahue show back in the 70’s. Someone asked him about the pending merger of Sears and K-mart,. They were concerned about the corporations controlling us. It’s funny how that didn’t come to pass.
Friedman’s answer was to let other retailers compete; he named a few but conspicuous by its absence was Wal-mart. They weren’t on the radar as a major player yet. Again funny how in the decades since Wal-mart has now become the totem of evil corporations controlling us…..except now Amazon is stealing their market share.
It’s disheartening how the beauty of choice and competition is right there for people to see, and so many still think corporations are the bad guys and government is there to save you.
I remember there was a Venture store and this new Target thing, right by it. Venture vanished quite quickly. Funny how better selection, pricing and cleaner, neater stores will do that.
You’re in the Chicago area, right ? I remember Venture stores….are they all gone now ?
Yep, da Ventures and Zayres are all long gone.

Dino: ‘Cos things break, don’t they?
Colonel: Break?
Luigi: Well everything breaks, don’t it Colonel. (he breaks something on desk) Oh dear.
Dino: Oh see my brother’s clumsy Colonel, and when he gets unhappy he breaks things. Like say, he don’t feel the army’s playing fair by him, he may start breaking things, Colonel.
Colonel: What is all this about?
Luigi: How many men you got here, Colonel?
Colonel: Oh, er… seven thousand infantry, six hundred artillery, and er, two divisions of paratroops.
Luigi: Paratroops, Dino.
Dino: Be a shame if someone was to set fire to them.
Colonel: Set fire to them?
Luigi: Fires happen, Colonel.
Dino: Things burn.
Minnesoda proggie public transit riders are concerned.
Unfortunately I think that their worries about DHS officers on their train would worry them at all if Hillary was in charge.
What? All 20 of them?
Every time I see a choo choo to buy, the damn thing is empty.
‘Go by’.
Fuck you, swype.
Morning commutes can be pretty full. However, you know that at least half the people didn’t pay to get on.
It still stuns me that we built a train system that relies on the honor system. I know us Minnesodans are the very model of good citizens, but sheesh!
Minneapolis is officially a proggie shit hole. It may be time to wall it off.
The tram system in Amsterdam works on the honor system and one has to fold one’s Strippenkaart in a certain manner and insert it into the franking machine. It was beyond the ken of this ugly American but thankfully, the system is enforced by massive public shaming of scofflaws. Everyone on the tram starts to point and scold if one does not frank one’s Strippenkaart in a timely manner. It tokk a moment of stammering Dutch words with wholly incorrect pronunciations for some nice folk to grok that I really didn’t know what to do and they were kind enough to show me how. The Netherlands is awesome.
So, the public transport version of the Soup Nazi.
Possibly, that simile shouldn’t be used too much in Amsterdam …
I did learn that Dutch and German are quite similar in spelling and construction but the Dutch get VERY cross if one uses German pronunciation. One shopkeep even told me – “Just speak English, we all know it.”
English everywhere, and if not, all you need is “alsjeblieft”.
NOTE: Phonetic Dutch. Heh.
“one has to fold one’s Strippenkaart in a certain manner and insert it into the franking machine.”
I can’t even with these euphemisms.
I am so old, that when I was there for the first time it was one Guilder and 10 cents. The one guilder coin was fine, but that damned dime was the smallest coin in Christendom, and easy to lose track of.
On our first visit, we were lunching at this little outdoor place in a large semi-circular courtyard/park type place; there were a couple bars and a wee grocery there. Suddenly, three APCs and a paddywagon roll up and a couple dozen jack-booted, body-armored folk dismount and form ranks. They march towards one bar, smacking their shields with their batons on every left step. A crowd bolts from the bar and into the grocery. The police (I was informed by our waiter) calmly marched in behind them. There was about 5 minutes of tremendous caterwalling, then 10 of the most sorry, bedraggled, bruised, battered, and bloody Englishmen this side of Hastings comes frog-marching out, flanked by the police prodding them with batons. They were loaded into the paddywagon and whisked away. Our waiter explained the Dutch have no tolerance for English football hooligans.
I meant that if Hillary was in charge DHS officers would *not* worry them. Because then those officers would be doing good things.
nside Japan’s oldest sex doll factory where FREAKISHLY realistic £5,000 ‘love dolls’ are made to order
I got the day off tomorrow. Anyone want me to pick you up one?
You really want to be able to claim you’re going there “For a friend”, don’t you?
I have no shame about stuff like that. Plus they think we all look alike anyways.
I’m surprised they don’t make them anime-style. Now you can sleep with your waifu!
Someone probably does.
The Motoko Kusanagi line is already sold out.
Especially after the movie coming out (man it looks… bad)
Hollywood is shitty at adapting anime? I could have never seen that coming.
(keep your filthy hands off Berserk Hollywood, I’m warning you)
I’d ask how you could adapt Berserk without it being so violent as to get an NC-17 rating just for that, but Hollywood could probably take it and find a way to make it PG-13.
Yep, PG-13 Berserk is one of the immediate horrors in my mind.
Poor Rape Horse, he can’t get a break.
“RAPE HORSE” STEVE SMITH’S NICKNAME IN HIGH SCHOOL.
Rape Horse is Steve Smith’s noble steed for when his victims think they can get away.
(Google ‘Berserk rape horse’ Swiss, I dare you)
I don’t know who makes them, but those do exist.
Big eyes, small mouth wouldn’t work, IYKWIMAITTYD.
That’s not my bag baby
Pounds? The British must get tired carrying that heavy money around.
Why do you think London is a financial capital? They couldn’t keep hauling it around so it became easier to just track who owned which part of which heap.
I think the 6000 pounds was referring to the doll’s life expectancy.
Ever since the Charlie Stross book (was it maybe Rule 34?), I tend to associate them with psychopaths possessed by malignant AIs.

That Texas teacher Is smiling because she knows she is innocent, according to her lawyer.
Funny, my mom knew she was innocent too. But she was not smiling when they booked her.
Totally
Weird I didn’t mean to post this.
Wood.
She may be guilty but did nothing wrong …
It was all in the line of duty?
sex education
Steve McQueen was, though!
Hmm. I’ve made my wife smile like that once or twice. I don’t believe the lawyer.
Now that you bring it up Sloop, how is that going? Any developments?
It’s going. Her lawyer requested a jury trial on March 1. They have not scheduled a hearing since then, although the request was made for all of the recordings, and radio communications, the audio of the receiving officer at the jail’s reaction to what happened (apparently the person was aghast when they brought her in), their dept SOP book on UOF and bodycam usage and they’re compiling other video of the incident as they find it.
It’s going to be a lengthy process. But we’re all confident she will prevail in both the criminal (well, technically it’s a traffic court offense) and civil cases.
Thanks for asking. I’ve been quiet about it because I don’t want to think about it that much. She’s having panic attacks when she leaves the house because she’s afraid this cop or one of his buddies will go after her. Hell, she won’t even go to Jasper County anymore in her own car. And that makes me pretty upset.
Also, someone asked about it yesterday but I had already gone to bed. I think it was Lachowsky. Sorry I missed your comment.
This makes me want to cry and I really wish there was some way in which I could help.
Well, we are all rooting for her. My hope is that the court will rule that she gets to pound that cops nuts into butter with a hammer. One can hope, right?
Thanks for the update, sloop. My thoughts are with you and your family.
+1
Thanks, all of you.
Hang in there Sloop. Hope it all turns out well.
I hope things go well.
She’s smiling because if found guilty she will get a week of probation, if she were a male it would be a whole different story. That’s why if you ever face jail time identify as a female.
Her story is just crazy. I hope she can get over this and at a minimum she’s exposed the dangers of state power to that gym full of people. Doubt many will get it, but I’m trying to get any good I can find out of a horrible story.
When everything’s fleshed out it won’t be as it appears.
What, like The Crying Game?
So they arrested the guy who’s been making the JCC bomb threats (the bulk of them). Turns out it’s an 18 year old US-born Israeli citizen
Has a single one of these post-election hate incidents been “real”?
Does that query include the violence against Free Speech or against Trump supporters?
No. Those are post-election love incidents.
LOVE TRUMPS HATE! The Ministry of Love, that is.
Those don’t count. Because privilege, punching up, hate speech, or something.
That black kid who turned the Jewish art into a swastika?
Israeli doesn’t always mean Jewish, so there’s still some chance with this one, I guess.
According to the BBC article the IDF determined that he was unfit for service. I don’t think they draft Palestinians.
Didn’t it say he had made aliyah though?
Had to look that one up. The article doesn’t name him but does say he’s got both US and Israeli citizenship which generally means US born.
But did he vote for Trump?
I can’t believe you guys aren’t asking the important questions.
And what has Trump tweeted about it? We must devote a dozen more two-minute segments to Trump tweets!
Well, I hope these links got you feeling’ alright.
I’m not feeling too good, myself.
Yeah, I like Traffic’s version better, too.
I’m starting to become convinced that Trump will not end up 2017 as President. He’s going to resign.
Shockingly to progressives, that will not make Hillary President.
What’s your argument for that?
Just a hunch. I’m not sure he anticipated the frustrations of the job. It’s killing his ego.
I think the frustrations might result in him not running in 2020 (which is a good thing, means we don’t have to throw out those ‘Rand Paul 20/20’ signs) but resign? No way, he’ll do his time just to prove he can, and hype up some random achievements if he can.
I’m with JB on this one.
However, progs will hate a competent, dedicated SoCon president more than they hate the current one.
I don’t think so. I think he has to win at everything.
The guy has rocks in his head for wanting the job in the first place, but I dont see him resigning. I can see the country catching fire if he is forced out.
If Trump does run, wouldn’t he would be the oldest nominee to try…
I do give props to the man – his campaigning schedule was ruthless, at least compared to Hillary (and I don’t know how it compares historically). But that, in part, gave him the win. Trump seemed tireless compared to Hillary with her health issues.
He’s not going to resign, not ever. His ego is too big for that.
Yeah, Trump likes to win. I don’t see him as the type to just give up and quit.
Yeah, I don’t see anything short of a stroke prying him off the throne.
And that doesn’t always work either!
/Ghost of Woodrow Wilson
There’s an article over here discussing a new book by a guy named Marc Sidwell who wrote a book called How To Win Like Trump: Nine Simple Rules for Victory Against the Odds which I’ve downloaded and will start to read.
I work for a firm that deals with DLT regularly, and I’ve spoken with trump a few times in the past, but most of my impression is formed from secondhand (but truthy) scuttlebutt. He’s loving this shit. Seriously. I don’t think he’s likely to retire or resign unless he has significant health issues arising and he’s in pretty good physical health for a man of his age.
A lot of the scandals surrounding the early phases of this transition, which everyone thinks are so damaging could be eliminated very easily, by Donald not starting them in the first place. Does anyone seriously believe he’s not capable of adequate message control?
The thesis advanced in Sidwell’s book is that the business analogue of this administration is a Lean Startup. Launch product, get a version out early and see how people respond, tweak it to meet beta user feedback, get recognition for the fix, AND for listening to consumers. All you have to ensure is that you don’t release a version that goes backwards in reliability or functionality, and if you do, shout out loud that you heard the beta testers, and announce a commitment to an even better, brighter version on the next release date.
Sidwell::Scott_Adams as marketing::psychology.
He has to see it through.
I tend to agree. I think it’s all by design.
The opportunists like Deepak Chopra are on TV advising Trump take a psyche test leads me to think he’s trolling these celebrity idiots.
I can see myself doing the exact same thing and laughing behind the scenes.
He keeps defying all the odds despite the loud and hysterical naysayers from the left and right. And yet people continue to underestimate him. Like it or not, that man ain’t going anywhere.
that’s my impression
Hey guys, long time lurker, with a few comments over on TSTSNBN. I know most of the in jokes (everyone is Tulpa, STEVE SMITH, Nikki is the worst, John and his mind reading device, etc….). Been following since you all moved over here and I must say, it’s nice to see some good discussion about these topics sans all the trolls at the other site.
Shut up Tulpa.
Hush, Tulpa.
You shut up, cunt. Leave the new fish alone for at least a day.
*the cunt was just to bug Ken, not anything personal.
Aww. I had forgotten all about the Great Cuntening of Ken… good times.
I’d chip in for a GoFundMe to have Kevin Kline reshoot this scene but with Ken and Cunt swapped in.
I’d bet someone at fiverr.com would take that on.
Love that movie.
Fucken limey cement. Too much.
That made me guffaw so suddenly, it upset the feline trifecta covering my desk, they bolted and spilled my coffee. Thanks John.
I’m still catching on to the inside jokes. I don’t want to contribute to them, because I don’t want to be that guy that ruins it.
Towing the lion , eh? Good for you, son.
One of these days I might work on a wiki or page here to cover them all. But right now I’m so busy I can’t even meet my article deadlines, so meh.
Wasn’t there once A Wiki Called Reason, or something like that, which explained a lot of the inside jokes and famous trolls? It’s was years back.
There was, but it only had a few pages. I remember that Nicole’s page was the worst. Epi made sure of it.
STEVE SMITH WILL RUIN MORE THAN THE JOKE
These euphemisms.
You know who else didn’t contribute to inside jokes?
I see the comments section as like working in a restaurant. As a newbie you are the victim of the inside jokes. Once you work your way up the ladder and gain respect you can then be the one showing the goat. At some point you realize you serve tables at a restaurant and your life is going nowhere.
Nailed it! Except for the respect part, of course.
I was respected once, but then my pizza topping allowances came out. and now look at me.
So you’re the pineapple heathen?
*readies bonfire*
You hold ’em, Cooper, I’ll tie ‘im to the stake!
That would be grilled pineapple, which might actually be good on a pizza.
+1 Hula Burger
I see the comments section as like working in a restaurant.
Nikkodemus at the end of the day.
Everyone is on pills and sleeping with each other?
I have joined the ranks, fair chaps. Still hard to comment frequently because I’m 14 hours ahead of EST, but I am always lurking.
*Toasts minions*
“Gentleman, to evil.”
Nice to see you!
Are you the guy what teaches English to them Korean kids?
Them Korean kids do need themselves some learnin’ now and agin’.
I think I’ll repost this as an antidote to the Duke-bashing:
“Despite controversy, Charles Murray talk proceeds without conflict…
“…Duke took no chances. Student IDs and tickets were checked three times before the event. Private security guards lined the perimeter of the Doris Duke Center at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens, in addition to the police stationed at the event. Approximately 50 people—mostly students—were in attendance. According to the event’s Facebook page, tickets were only available for the first 75 students or faculty….
“Murray seemed pleased that the talk had not been interrupted, saying that he had a “much better time tonight” than at Middlebury. However, there were four protesters across the street from Duke Gardens with vuvuzelas and air horns, though they could not be heard inside the Doris Duke Center during the talk.”
Duke University is a fine school. I have nothing against them outside the confines of Cameron Indoor Arena and the birdcage that is Dick Vitale’s skull.
Eddie, here’s a belated thank you for your Campbell article from last night. Lengthy, but necessarily so – that’s a lot of material to cover. I’d never really considered that Southerners might have wanted to move to federal territory and bring their slaves.
Got about halfway through before I got distracted doing side research on SCOTUS justices who had also served in congress. (Article suggestion for you.) Plan to finish that tonight.
David Bernstein says white immigrants were always considered white
I found the update interesting:
“UPDATE: The comments are interesting, and show that the whiteness studies view has had such strong influence that many people can’t conceive of the idea that Irish, Italian, Polish, Slovak, Jewish, Greek and other immigrants to the United States could have faced a tremendous amount of discrimination from the Northeastern European establishment and yet still have been considered white. Nor do folks seem to understand that “ethnic” whites could have been considered to be white, but also been subject to racism, because people believed that there were subraces within the white category.”
sooooo, not white.
Not *functionally white*, no.
It’s partial projection of modern concepts of race onto older race concepts. No one (except Sam Haysom on the Other Site) is obsessed with Anglo-Saxonism as the superior group within the white race itself anymore, but it dominated discussions on race in the 19th century.
“Being white” was less an indicator of being part of the superior group and more being part of a general ‘better’ race, but you were still inferior to those of the ‘whitest’ category.
i think that’s just some ego-defense mechanism from having been systematically raped by vikings for hundreds of years.
Meh, it was still Germanic rape, and it took hundreds of years for that PTSD to manifest.
I watched Buckley’s interview with Thomas Sowell awhile back, and he brought up Anglo-Saxonism during the race discussion. It seemed almost like a bizarre foreign cultural thing to me, being a product of the more modern race concepts.
Did you read the Guardian piece on “Where’s Rachel Dozel now”? Sure, maybe she made up the entire backstory, including her four adopted black siblings, her marriage to a black man with whom she has a black child, attending a black college and mastering in black studies or somesuch, all for that sweet, sweet gig at the NAACP. Maybe. It seems like a bit of a stretch that she does not in fact have a pretty intimate attachment to black culture, whatever that means. But I’d say she makes a better case for transracialism than the case for transgenderism.
i guess. i think the whole ‘race’ thing is stupid and i don’t really think it matters. If she wants to call herself X or Y and live her life that way, more power to her. It doesn’t obligate anyone to play along, least of all actual black people.
I do think its especially weird that some of these ‘trans’ people (either race or gender) immediately want to claim collective victimhood despite choosing the identity of an ‘oppressed person’. there was some ‘everyday feminism’ extra-strength-derp a while back from a transwoman moaning about how hard it is to be a woman. And dolezal probably could have been perfectly successful living as a black person if she simply hadn’t ALSO insisted upon being the spokesperson for the local (tacoma?) NAACP. basically = LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME. It seems to belie the idea that they just want to live their lives in their chosen identity in peace- rather, they seem to use the new-identity as a launching pad from which to make demands on the rest of the world.
Well, the hip dudes call that being a “transtrender”. Real transgenders are alleged to hate them with the fire of a thousand suns.
Absolutely agreed re: race as a worse than useless designator. But it’s the game progressives play with one another, so to see them fall apart over Dolezal (not sure where I got Dozel) is a little bit delicious. By any account, she had a screwed-up childhood. You don’t spontaneously identify as another race to the extent that you pigment your skin and fro your hair without some major emotional precursors taking their toll. Unlike Shaun King, who seems to be a no-shit scam artist, Dolezal has some bona fides in her history. If she’s truthful about her home life growing up, she lived a less privileged existence than a lot of blacks, especially the upper-echelon black progressives most vociferous in heaping condemnation on her.
Anyway, I’m more sympathetic to Dolezal than I am the “woke” crowd of white upper-middle-class twits parroting social Marxist tropes and unashamedly patronizing blacks.
If she’s truthful about her home life growing up
I see no reason to believe she is. Needz moar corroboration.
“but it dominated discussions on race in the 19th century. ”
Indeed. It formed the core of the “germ theory” school of civilization that historians didn’t really attack until the 1950s.
Ugh, white people. Amirite ?
When I was 10 I went trick or treating in the east end of the city where poor French-Canadians and working-class Italians skrocketing up the social and financial ladder lived side by side. At one of the houses a guy answered the door and said in thick Quebcois gutter slang, ‘Are you wops?’ We had no clue what he was talking about. What the fuck was a ‘wop’? Anyway, he shouted ‘I don’t give candy to wops’ and slammed the door shut. Later that night I asked my future brother in law what it meant and he demanded to know the house but none of us could remember as we stuffed our mouths with candy.
WHERE ARE MY REPARATION PAYMENTS?!?
Finally, something I agree with the French Canadians on.
/takes back plate of Osso buco. Pours grappa down JT’s underwear.
There you go, making up nonsense words in your half-caste barbarian tongue again.
10 hectares and a sheep.
I don’t know what “whiteness studies” are, and I’m not sure what larger point the author is trying to make, but the fact that Irish were depicted as drunken monkeys in contrast to normal-looking WASPs and yet considered “whiter” than, say, a sub-Saharan African is a distinction utterly without difference.
Anecdotally, my grandfather–a man who grew up next door to Sheriff Bull Connor, and was pretty familiar on an operational level with racism–nearly stopped speaking to one of his daughters because she married…a guy who was part Sicilian. Discussions were routinely held making reference to the fact that Spaniards, which is to say Catalan Spaniards, were white, while Mexicans were not. Northern Italians were white, Sicilians were definitely not. Blonde Greeks were fine, swarthy Greeks were not.
Just because a Sicilian ranked higher than a Black–marrying a black dude was so far out of the question as to be unimaginable–did not mean that Sicilians were fully “white”. It went Anglo-Saxons, Mediterranean types and Jews, east Asians or “Orientals”, south Asians, just barely edging out Arabs, and then the Blacks. American Indians/First Nations/whatever never came up, but they’d probably be somewhere slightly above Jews.
That sounds about right.
*looks in mirror*
Oh, wait a minute…
That would be news to these guys.
That’s pretty stupid asking way to try to attack a valid point. Irish, Italians, Jews were discriminated against, but because Jim Crow laws didn’t Target them they were alwayswhite.
He is using the same logical fallacy he accuses others of. Namely he knows people will car that info in our modern indoctrination. Therefore if someone was considered white then, then they were part of the oppressors. It’s a smarmy tactic to shut white people up.
After reading the article more in depth, I realize I missed his point. But hey, the never said reading comprehension was a goal at school.
I have a question for Switzy, if he is still awake…
My son has joined his high school Rugby club. He wants a scrum cap and a ball.
Can you point me in the right direction to get him kitted out?
tell him to man up and ditch the cap
– an ear or two?
I was a second row….pre scrum cap era for the vast majority of the time. Wish I had had one.
*stirs boiling hot coffee with index finger and wonders aloud when pudding time is*
So, it was people like you who used to keep sticking their heads up my fundament!
well I had a friend who broke a collarbone playing rugby and the cap didn’t help any.
I am partial to Canterbury (New Zealand) kit myself.
Try Amazon or rugbyimports.com
Cap, kinda unnecessary.
Figure out what size ball he needs – which will depend on what kind of training he’s going to get
If he really is in the scrum, speak to coach. If he’s front row, shin pads are a good idea.
Also speak to coach about a gum shield; if the coach is hardcore, a gum shield will save your son’s face and teeth. These are words from hard experience.
All Amazon items, but as I say, speak to coach about ball size.
speak to coach about ball size
Well, maybe get to know him a little first.
Not if it’s a Catholic school.
Let Charles Murray speak: Thursday night is a pass-or-fail test for Columbia
“Thursday night, Murray, author of “The Bell Curve,” “Coming Apart” and other books, is slated to appear at Columbia, having been invited by a conservative campus student group….
“Murray’s arrival is a pass-or-fail test for Columbia: Uphold free speech in theory and practice, or let a great educational institution descend into dangerous groupthink.”
Notre Dame is having him soon, too. They wrote a letter reasserting his right to speak on campus.
Off for my first day at the new shit-job. No more overnight stocking for me!
Good luck, Doom!
Remember, get them before they get you.
*hides shiv in sock*
It should be fine, it’s just a job at the hardware store. need to make ends meet while I get better at this computer stuff. New system, new people. that’ll be the hard part. I was getting sick of working 11-7am.
Thanks!
‘Just’ a hardware store?
There is no better retail than a hardware store, and that includes bars.
Have fun!
Access to all the necessary parts to build one of these
Warms my black little heart to see that the yute aren’t completely a lost cause. Love the comment that he should be a weapons merchant in “Fallout”.
One of my favorite jobs was as a paint mixer at a 100+ year old Brooklyn hardware store. Benjamin Moore throws some serious professional development money around and I learned a great deal about color theory, paint chemistry, and surface adhesion. Also, made nice connections with competent professionals in the building trades that have served me well over the years. Hardware stores are awesome. Congratulations on the new job, have a great time.
I saw that movie about you. The one with all the dancing.
Footloose?
Kevin Bacon didn’t work in a hardware store.
I think the reference is to Saturday Night Fever.
You were asking about resources for learning JavaScript, right? If you get on a thread later and you still want any pointers, let me know. Training people in JavaScript is (part of) my job.
good to know, I will do that!
Would be interested in this also. I’m delving into some projects involving web scraping, and am finding that knowing some JS could be helpful.
Just saw your comment, I’m working now, so hit me up in the PM lynx.
What is the job?
Hardware store. mix of register and walking around helping people. they have a key shop there, too, so I might end up in there from my old career.
You got a nice key store
We expect stories about lonely housewives asking if you would be so kind as to install some screens.
“I am here to change the locks…”
“You got the right key baby, but the wrong keyhole”
You might actually make a key that works. That would be a refreshing break from the usual nincompoops working the key grinder at the local hardware store.
If the people at Ace are any indication of what it takes to be successful in the hardware business, the secret is learning to disappear between aisles. Personally, I think they flatten themselves out and go right through a seam in the wall.
We’ve got an Ace fairly close by. I love it. Its like time traveling back decades; a wonderful “general store” vibe, good staff and plenty of them, etc. I don’t go to teh big box unless they absolutely positively don’t have what I need.
I prefer it to Home Depot or Walmart.
Yeah, but their inventory is so small it’s inevitable I won’t always find what I’ll need and I end up at The Home Despot anyways.
My local Ace is pretty good. They have one of the staff there, a woman in her late 30’s now, I guess, who carries pretty much the whole plumbing and electrical inventory – including prices – around in her head, and can quote state code on just about anything related to water, waste and electrical.
It’s a skill I thought had died out about the time that hardware stores stopped looking like this (the sketch is also funny, but somewhat dependent on the vocabulary and pronunciation, so may not be funny for some people, but it is SFW but a bit long)
Racist?
To ask the question is to answer it.
I guess you’re right. How is this still on Youtube?
“Chicago leads population loss in American cities. Windy City sees population decline for second year in a row.”
Is it because they keep shooting each other?
Woody Harrelson may be sober, but clean? That’s stretching the definition.
Looks like the filibuster for SCOTUS nominees is about to die. Schumer and his merry band of useless proggies plan to filibuster Gorsuch.
So what are the odds that the Repubs in the Senate actually have a testicle descend, and break the filibuster here?
I mean, we are talking about some of the most craven and useless wastes of oxygen on the planet, lets not forget.
Shia LaBeouf put up his stupid “He Will Not Divide Us” flag again, this time in the UK. It was taken within one day. Apparently he’s giving up on the “project” now. /pol/ wins again. Somehow I don’t think this dumbshit realizes that 4chan has autists everywhere, and there are many in the UK.
Funny shit.
From their FB page.
It wasn’t a victory, you see. Because the project lives on in our hearts. 😀
As has been said before: There is no fanatic quite like a newborn fanatic.
Now maybe that’s me making assumptions, but it seems like this should not be a surprise. If someone born in a western country will go to the Middle East to fight for Islam, they are a true believer. Same for someone born in the West who will ram a car into pedestrians. I don’t see how this can be stopped.
