The whole system runs on graft, favors, and holding people over a barrel for shit in their past that would end their ambitions. If the guy in charge owes you nothing, is actually fueled by every attempt to destroy him with fictions, and you can’t find anything real to hit him with in a system like that, wouldn’t you be afraid of him too? It’s only a matter of time until they start turning on each other and bringing him everything he needs to get them under his thumb. So they need to end him, and end him fast by any means possible.
They’re obviously not afraid of bad politics. They perpetrate a lot of it themselves, it’s their bread and butter. It’s certainly not out of a concern for their constituents, because they wouldn’t have whipped up a lot of false fears in their base if they did care about the country’s political well-being.
Whatever the case may be, I think you’re right. There’s something very different going on here. As in anything political, the general rule is: follow the money. Nobody pays huge sums to smear campaigns and to establish an iron grip on all media unless the ruling class genuinely fears change.
Politics is the game of shame. This is because shame is the primary lever civil society uses to organize itself.
He who has no shame, is immune to the pressure of shame and may thus carry out his business as he sees fit.
I’m hoping that he just pulls CNN’s access to the press room and gives it to some other organ just as a demonstration of the the sway he actually holds over their ratings.

Went out to dinner in DC last night at a restaurant not on the list of businesses shuttering their doors to show solidarity with immigrants or some such. I think the law is pretty clear that the president can ban any class of aliens from entry into the US if in his judgement they are detrimental to the interests of the US. Period. spare timeprocrastination from the bar exam. It’s not ready for the big time yet, but it has a fix to the timestamp issue built in. I can’t rigorously test that part of the code, so I figured I’d make it available to some intrepid alpha testers, if you want the timestamps to be in your local time zone.Here are the preliminary features:
-Timestamps should be in your local time
-Comments are compacted together
-If an article has a sidebar, it is removed (full width comments)
-Unread comment count and scroll (click the button to go to the next unread comment)
-Hide the old threads (only threads with new comments appear on the screen).

I don’t mind leaving the sidebar there and letting people choose whether or not they want to see it with a script. It has useful info and links, but I always have the main page open in another tab, so it’s redundant for me.
It grinds a bit of CPU, but timestamps are looking good.
I made no attempts at efficiency, so anything short of a supercomputer may see a hiccup or two before everything renders. Ideally, I’d queue up all the required changes before iterating through the comments instead of iterating a bazillion times.
I’m really curious what’s going to happen with daylight savings time. Either everything is going to get really messed up (if the server doesn’t adjust), or it will magically sort itself out.
I suspect there’s going to be an hour’s difference if the server starts serving up time in CDT (-0500) next month. You have -0600 hardcoded as the server TZ.

If you listened to the Rogan podcast he did some time back he carries on with some of the themes about religion and ideology at the end. I think I’m going to make time to listen to at least one of his YT lecture series. I don’t have a lot of grounding in philosophy but I find him interesting.
I really liked the Rogan podcast as well. Heard it for the first time a few weeks ago when one of my buddies came down for a visit. Good stuff.
I love that Peterson always sounds like he’s stifling some inchoate rage. The topics he’s covering warrants the reaction.
I like a lot of what Stefan has to say, but he totally lost it when he demonstrated that he thinks that libertarians are SJW leftists.

He has lots of positions that I don’t agree with, and he went full on Trump during the election which makes me wince, but he’s a decent interviewer and Peterson’s good show with Rogan made me interested enough to click. I probably still have around 1/3 of the show to listen to but I think it’s been worthwhile.
He also pimps crap like r/K selection theory. Molyneux seems to know where his money is coming from, and tailoring himself to that audience. He was a hell of a lot more pro-libertarian five years ago.
Yeah, I liked some of his older work and philosophy podcasts but he’s drifted quite a bit from refusing to endorse politics at all into the Trump camp.
I’ve been checking out more of Peterson lately, I’ll probably sit down for his YT lectures as well. If you haven’t heard it yet, check out Bryan Callen’s podcast w/ Hunter Maats. They had Jordan on and they’ve done a bunch of other interesting cast. On the flip side, if you thought about listening to Jordan on Sam Harris’s podcast, just don’t. It was a complete waste of time. They never got into anything substantive because Sam refused to get past some inconsequential semantics.

I was there about two years ago on an el-cheapo vacation. Wish I had research the area better because we ended up being pretty bored and moved on to visit friends a day earlier than planned.
I tried to go here but the water level was so high that they shut the tour down for the day.
The Montana Grille had some good steak / service.
I forgot the Train Museum. Tour through the vintage trains and mini museum was good. It’s pretty close to the Corvette museum (which I didn’t go to since ‘vettes aren’t my thing).

Speaking of war trucks Ford is re-releasing the Bronco and Ranger next year. The Ranger is the single greatest truck I have ever owned.

Not really the bronco 2. still looks good. But they probably ran into the same problem toyota did with the new FJ, cant take the roof off anymore. Jeep has managed to keep at it, somehow.

I wish they were bringing it back as an updated version of the old Ranger. It’s not a compact, though, it’s a midsize like the Colorado and the Tacoma, and it’s not going to be cheap like the old Ranger.
I’m not a good ol’ boy who goes mudding and I don’t tow anything. I just want an inexpensive truck with a decent-sized bed that I can use to haul things around in.
Yeah that’s my problem with it. I just need a work truck. I go fishing too so I’d prefer that over my Fiesta.
New, trucks are impossible to get cheap. I blame emission standards, but safety regs play a huge role as well.
If you find an older tacoma, make sure it had the new frame put in. They are starting to go for the new ones as well, my 05 was the second in the country to have a frame recall.
I know they sell new for around 40k. I found an 06 Ranger for about 4k but it had almost 330k miles on it. Bummer.
00-04 taco’s in my area are overpriced but very clean.
If you’re looking for a light work truck, the early 4runner might work for you. They can’t tow a bunch, but that little engine is unstoppable. put the top on and you have a nice suv.
Which year? I was looking at those. But I live in rural GA, so Ford and Chevy is king.
the 85-87 has the 22re, a 4 cyl with EFI. in 88-90 they went to a 3.0 v6. people in the toyota world like to mock this engine. Its not a bad one, it just seemed underpowered for how big it was. the 85 is the only year with a solid front axle. In 1990 they switched to the full suv body. The early 90’s look ugly to me, but thats personal. they can be found cheap with around 100k. with some care both engines will go over 300k.
The 85 is the most expensive, people really like them for off road.
Love the ’80s 4Runner! My favorite uncle had one when I was a kid, used to promise me that he’d give it to me someday. Of course, that never happened.
My dad had an 86. he sold it to our neighbor, who then got hit by the plow truck in it that winter. He regrets it to this day.

No worries. I really like the 4runner roots. If you don’t think they are too old, and you find one with little body rust, you can have a really fantastic truck for house work.
So a 2005 would be older enough? I ask because my dad has a 2005 Tacoma, and I know he’s never had the frame replaced.
check on it. Depends on the salting of your road. the gen 2 (05-12?) are starting to go in the northeast. There was a massive recall for gen 1 back in the day, almost all got replaced. Toyota told me that in 2010 they switched the steel again.
