  • Afternoon Out of Office Links

    Most of Swiss Servator’s in-box…

Working between Christmas and New Year’s is a double edged sword. On one the side, it is not busy and you can swill coffee and surf the net, waiting for something, anything to come in to the ol’ in-box. On the other side…you can only drink so much coffee and take only so many “I am out of the office until January 2nd, you fool…you thought you would get in touch with anyone at this time of year?!” auto-replies to my emails.

So I begged Brett to do the Afternoon Links – so as to be able to say I did something today, other than drink coffee and go stir crazy. He was kind enough to let me do so…

    • The Mouse has a new hotel policy that guarantees no libertarian will stay there;

Along with the new term comes a policy that requires Disney cast members to enter each hotel room at least once a day to “ensure guest safety,” according to a report by Walt Disney World News Today.

Before the policy, a “Do Not Disturb” sign would signal for employees to bypass the room. But now, Disney says that “the hotel and its staff reserve the right to enter your room for any purpose including, but not limited to, performing maintenance and repairs or checking on the safety and security of guests and property.”

    • Hope you got your look at GIANT NYC PAINTED DONG. It got covered. Be sure to read the whole thing, for some real, authentic frontier derp (i.e. The New Allen told CBS2 the Broome Street mural cost about $10,000 to produce, including grants from the Swedish government.)
    • Straffinrun got me looking for Japanese language news…TOO LATE, LOOKS LIKE ITS TIME TO LEARN ENGLISH!!!!
    • We at Glibertarians.com wish to offer you some helpful New Year’s Eve advice.

Now go do, that comment voodoo, that you do…so well!
  • Winter Wasteland Afternoon Links

Well, the thermometer finally got off of -1 degree…all the way up to 0. *narrows gaze at weather station*

I had one errand to run today and got the post-Christmas clean up finished this morning, otherwise it is a hide in blankets, with coffee and Bailey’s day for me. I can hear the snorts of disgust at my weakness from the Minnesoda and Montana and Dakotas Glibs …

So, I offer you Links as absolution:

    • Trumputin punishes our poor, selfless civil servants in DC, once again. That doesn’t look very swampy drain-y to me, Cheeto Mussolini!!!!!
    • King says, “don’t leave my kingdom.”
    • Um….when I was in the US Army, I was vaccinated against anthrax. I am not sure it means what the headline hints at.
    • You can’t spell “Untied” without “United“.

OK, time to crawl back under the blanket on the couch.

  • We’re busy playing with our new toys links.

We are all  busy drinking cocoa and playing with our new toys…so links are sparse and later than usual this morning.

    • Ah, Chicago’s mayor…leading the way to becoming the next Detroit!
    • Have you ever been in a Turkish Egyptian prison?
    • “Suspected” US drone? Looks like they got one the Haqqani network scum (or two?) if it was. See how thorough this story is – we don’t know what happened, or where.
  • Catalonia – “Our situation is one of stable instability”

Don Swissxote checking in on Catalonia… Hmmm. Looks like another vote. When last we left this mess, the former Catalan Regional President, Carles Puigdemont, had fled to Belgium, to avoid the fate of other members of the regional government – imprisonment (which didn’t stop campaigning. *Chicago area politicians perk up*). Note, however, that the international warrant for Puigdemont was withdrawn (should he go back to Spain, I have no doubts the handcuffs would be on him in seconds).

The scenarios for post-vote Catalonia are numerous. I will glibly lay out what they are:

    1. On the one hand, voters have been scared off from independence – by the use of force by Madrid (cops beating down people voting in the October referendum) or the number of business HQ’s fleeing Barcelona, or having second thoughts about being wholly responsible for themselves (in a national sense) now. So, they end up with MILFy Ines Arrimadas in charge….the independence movement returns to Quebec or Scotland levels of annoying/festering.
    2. On the other hand, independence favoring parties win small – but squabble while trying to form a coalition to govern, and accomplish little to nothing before collapsing and needing new elections (see post-war Italian and Belgian governments). Being the cynical SOB that I am, I think this will end up happening… and the sound of cans being kicked down the road will echo for years.
    3. Or, on the gripping hand, independence parties end up winning bigger – people get a case of the “fuck off, slaver” and one of the three independence parties gets enough of a mandate to lead a coalition….from exile, from jail or in Socialist person. Madrid would again suspend the regional government, send in the coppers and we would reach a decision point… give up under the force employed? Turn into a Basque style guerrilla type conflict? Start Civil War 2.0?
    Costa Brava, Catalonia

As a libertarian type, I want force avoided. But, it ain’t my country/language/culture/self-determination at stake. I am not ready to go off and join the Reconstituted Abraham Lincoln Brigade as of yet. But this will be worth watching one way or the other.

P.S. For those that Twitter, follow #catalonia for all sorts of opinion and news.

  • Afternoon Links – December Cover Edition

‘Twas time to use this wonderful cover – thanks MLW!

We cannot thank out contributors to this site enough – you have given us interesting and original content, fun graphics, avatars and gifs. We are thankful you all want to be involved in our little site. Additional thanks to SP for setting up a reliable and durable (hey, it can take SugarFree fic and not fold in on itself) site. Thanks to the Glibs who contribute their time and effort editing and polishing up the submissions, take the task in hand of turning out links every day – even hung over, on the road or otherwise distracted. You have no idea what it takes to get ZARDOZ and STEVE SMITH to contribute (*shudders* I…I really don’t want to say anymore about that).

And, thanks to all of you – our readers. Without you, this would be a simple bulletin board for a few of us to hang up cartoons and fart jokes. Your reading, commenting, donations, merchandise purchases and insight have made this a site I am proud to be affiliated with. But, you aren’t here to listen to a bunch of thank you stuff….you want links. So on to some unprofessional links!

    • I am sure this will only do good. I mean, how could it do otherwise? MONEY WELL SPENT!
    • This is so…not German. If you want to see what a formerly warlike nation, turned impotent looks like. Read this. I mean, was there ever anyone else who wanted the Germans so strained to get weapons?
    • Oh? I guess we will see, won’t we?
    • Say, weren’t we just hearing State Department personnel whining about how bad things are? Guess this little outpost will raise morale. BEAR ANY BURDEN, PAY ANY PRICE!
  • Afternoon Links – the Tardy Edition

    Links…late, but here:

    • Perk of the job, under fire?
    • Drugzz are bad, m’kay?
    • I found one of Ronald Reagan’s “Welfare Queens“.
    • STEVE SMITH GO OUT TO EAT IN NYC?

    OK, have at ’em.

  • Monday Afternoon Links of SMH

The Links have been seized…by me. OK, not really, Brett is buying a new fanboat, running over manatees or some Florida thing.

So, we will have Links…that make you shake your head – sadly, or in disbelief, or laughing. Your choice.  So let me run them by all of ye, and you can comment away! [h/t sloopy on the first two!]

    1. Procedures were NOT followed. Seems this off-duty cop decided he would take care of business, on his own. NOTE: he is now an ex-cop (he “resigned”) and the Chief of his old department said “That’s just something we don’t do”. He has, however chanted the magic fear words. So we will see what happens.
    2. Rent Party lawsuit! Take a look at the settling defendant and tell me you aren’t shaking your head… in revulsion! Also, please read the whole thing to see the bonus fun of “a separate criminal case accusing him of unlawful disposal of a dead body”. I want your “Landlord From Hell” stories in the comments – can they compare to this guy!
    3. How about a little NYC reaction to the sort of ‘splody guy? “I said, damn, I’m gonna move back to North Carolina. New York City is too much for me.”
    4. Time to lighten it up a bit. See what the world asks Google about the UK. I start smh laughing, when I got to what the Brits google about everyone else, it got funnier (see the “Colombia” result).

  • Afternoon Links – Grumbling Edition

Looking out the window at work, I see some @#$%ing Hate Birds, the Birds That Hate stopping by to crap on our sidewalks and foul the pond out by the main entrance. SCREW YOU HATE BIRDS! And then there is all this work I have (yes, Rufus, I WORK! …sometimes) where I am waiting for other people to get back to me before I can finish the year out. And did I mention the ache in my right shoulder? Let me tell you…

    *slaps self across face*

OK, I am fine…really. So, I guess you are here for some links, eh? OK, some of you are here for links. Because, lets face it, most of you are here to snark, and look at Q’s posts in the comments. Wait… or is that just me?  Anyway, here are some links for you:

    1. Oh look! Illinois scum petitioning on behalf of an imprisoned member of the political class. Shocking, eh? I am sure this has no bearing on their own conduct… “Instead, they wrote that the nation’s highest court should hear his appeal to ‘distinguish the lawful solicitation and donation of campaign contributions from criminal violations of federal extortion, bribery, and fraud laws.’ ” Man, I hate Illinois Nazis politicians.
    2. Citizen – you are too expensive for the State to maintain….report to the nearest disintegration chamber in your sector! This is what the Berniebots want to bring to the US.
    3. Cis-hetero White Male Privilege! BELIEVEHER# … of course, it looks like certain colleagues do believe her…and he looks to be toast.
    4. Tsar Vladimir I, right?

Enjoy the links…or not. Say, I wonder if I can pop outside, find a rock or two and fling them at those Hate Birds, The Birds That Hate?

  • Afternoon Links, One Set, 4 Each.

So you would like some links? You have the NSN for them? OK, how about the LIN? End item code…? You just want “links”. Well, I’ll see what we have on hand here…

These look like they are still in the unopened box, so why don’t you give them a try?

    • Friday’s “incident confirmed that such a position is necessary.” Of course it did.
    • The Gropeocaust continues.
    • Glass ceiling shattered, shitlords! Now, someone needs to scold those patriarchal police for attacking a strong womyn, who is in charge!
    • A task for our commentariat – where does this woman place on the Hot/Crazy matrix?

If those don’t work, just fill out a request. You should be able to find the correct numbers in those manuals…

It has to be in one of these.
  • Tuesday Morning Links – Lack of Inspiration Edition

If yesterday was “meh”, today is ….uninspired. The very brief sports note – There apparently was some sort of gang warfare in Ohio…it was disguised as an NFL game between the Bengals and the Stillers (PA spelling). We are still awaiting the final body count. Oh, and every team I like still sucks and is mired in losing.

    So, on to the links;

    • Remember, only the benevolent hand of government can take care of you! Otherwise we would all be living in some Dickensian work house asking for more gruel.
    • OK, there is brash…and there is BRASH. Anyone check the usual bat-sh#t crazy feminist sites for coverage of this?
    • Theresa May continues to race Angela Merkel for title of Most Blundering European Leader.
    • Wow, thanks AP – I would have never guessed any of this!
    • Ah, the sound of silence.

OK, since I don’t do music links – could you, dear commenters, post something musical to wish sloopy good luck for today? How about that, Swiss Servator asking for OT links! Wait, or since I asked for them, it isn’t OT… whatever, just wish him luck.
