French model Ines Rau has been named Playboy’s first transgender Playmate. Her photo editorial will debut the November/December 2017 issue, which will also feature a substantial tribute to the magazine’s late founder Hugh Hefner, who will also appear on the cover.
While the first transgender model to earn the coveted title of “Playmate,” Rau is not the first transgender model to appear in Playboy’s pages. In fact, her initial shoot in the magazine three years ago launched her successful modeling career. In May 2014, she was shot nude for a spread called “Evolution.” As Playboy writes, “the accompanying copy surveys humanity’s halting shift toward acceptance of gender identities beyond the male-female binary.”
What’s is it about straight male sexuality that frightens The Woke Army so much that it has to destroy even its simplest pleasures? There are plenty of transgender porn and erotica in the world… why bring it to Playboy? What even is the point of Playboy in this day and age of genderqueer demisexual otherkins choke-jerking in Anne Frank Halloween costumes?
To hear Sean Hannity tell it, the media is ignoring “what is becoming the biggest scandal — or, at least, one of them — in American history.”
Hannity is jumping waaay ahead of the facts. So is Breitbart News, which has been running misleading headlines like this: “FBI uncovers confirmation of Hillary Clinton’s corrupt uranium deal with Russia.”
Brent Bozell, founder of the conservative Media Research Center, claims that there is “another coverup in the making.” And President Trump chimed in Thursday morning on Twitter.
New reporting this week by the Hill has, indeed, added a layer of intrigue to the sale of a uranium mining company to Russia’s atomic energy agency, which was approved by the Clinton-led State Department and eight other U.S. government agencies. But the latest developments, as they relate to Clinton, are not as explosive as certain news outlets — eager to draw attention away from reporting on President Trump and Russia — would have you believe.
The Washington Post has gone so far past carrying water for Hillary they are basically just hosing her off in the backyard at this point. It’s not a story about Clinton’s corruption so much as an extending whine that the conservative media is being a big ol’ poopyhead again. The tone suggests that they wouldn’t even be writing about it if it was for those darn kids! Silence is complicity, you toerags.
The Hat and the Hair have both declared the Fake Melania Meme to be Fake News. When pushed for clarification if Fake News of Fake Melania meant there were Fake Melanias or that there aren’t Fake Melanias, the Hat told this reporter to do something anatomically difficult with a pineapple deep dish pizza and ended the call.
But there’s also the Trump administration’s long record of ridiculous antics, which have conditioned us to believe that just about anything is possible. The man uses Scotch tape on his ties and owns a fake Renoir. A fake Time magazine with him on the cover as well as a plaque for a Civil War battle that never took place adorn his golf clubs. At this point, we don’t trust anything these people do. The idea of pulling a stunt like having a body double for the first lady and then ostentatiously lying about is just about as Trumpian as it gets.
And if anybody in the Trump administration had a body double, it would be Melania. The first lady didn’t seem particularly enthusiastic to move to Washington, to accompany her husband as his presidency was beginning, and her slowness to fill out her staff could also indicate a reluctance to participate in official White House activities. On social media, critics of Donald Trump have taken special glee in dissecting the moments when Melania seems to reject her husband’s hand or forget to hide the despair on her face. So the thought that maybe, just maybe, the real Melania is lying in a spa somewhere with cucumbers on her eyes, Barron by her side, binge-watching The Real Housewives of Ljubljana, waiting for 2021? It’s simply too delicious to resist.
I thought the topic was done with. The Catalonian leadership had waffled, Madrid had growled and it looked like the whole thing was done. A bluff called and folded.

But, as in many things…I was wrong. The Spanish central government appears to want this over with, once and for all. As I have been questioning – what does this matter to a libertarian? Is this a case of “When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them“? Or just a bunch of whiny Socialists saying “What do we want? Socialism! Where do we want it? Here!” Should that even matter?

A good point Playa Manhattan had brought up – at what point is enough of the populace saying “we want out” enough? The referendum that trigger this shitstorm did not see even majority of eligible voter participation. Is there a number where you can draw a line and say “OK, there it is, enough to call it just”?
What happens to someone who wants to remain Spanish? You see a lot about the Spanish Constitution saying Spain is indivisible – does that hold for people who were not even born, or of age when it was adopted?
Will Madrid’s continuing crackdown push Catalans to say “hey, maybe the independence types are right…Madrid really does want to crap on us!”?

I am torn…but if pushed, I would say that I would reluctantly back the Catalans. I do truly believe that Governments are instituted among Men,deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.But I can be convinced this is not the case here. Discuss, debate and snark, as you will.

As a noobie libertarian, in the olden days of 2010, I was all about natural law, as a fairly objective way of looking at ethics. Now I can say that I believe in liberty, which in my view should not need justification, although sadly it does.
Note: Morality and ethics – I never know if the words are interchangeable, not unlike freedom and liberty. So I use them interchangeably.
Thus spake the almighty Wikipedia: “Natural law is a philosophy that certain rights or values are inherent by virtue of human nature, and universally cognizable through human reason. Historically, natural law refers to the use of reason to analyze both social and personal human nature to deduce binding rules of moral behavior. The law of nature, being determined by nature, is universal.”
Remember cheetah, sharing is caring
When philosophers talk of natural law, they don’t mean how things happen in nature. If you drop a rock, it falls (hopefully not on someone’s head). The hyena eating a cheetah’s kill cares not that the cheetah worked hard for that, although it probably thinks it is getting its fair share. The gazelle tax, if you will. Natural law is about human nature and how humans ought to behave within the constraints of human nature – animals or planetary movement when we talk about natural law. Human nature is not the same as hummingbird nature – nice bird, lovely plumage. But the plumage don’t enter into it.
Natural law theory looks for universal concepts, or as dead, white, possibly slave owning American males – basically shitlords – said, self-evident truths. Without this, you have little more than might makes right – the actual law of the jungle, and you can’t really define morality as might makes right, because there is no need for debate or definitions if simply the strongest gets the stuff.
While I am cautious of moral absolutism, I can’t help but be more wary of excessive moral subjectivism or moral relativism. Some things must be clear cut, otherwise what’s the point of discussing ethics? Can one say that Hitler or Stalin or Pol Pot were objectively evil? I believe so. Can there be a moral argument for child rape? Ehm… ! If we admit this, we can determine some general objective rules. Not everything is relative, and you need a paradigm of some sort. Unless we can create an objective standard, we cannot weigh one thing versus another. The scales must be calibrated. Preferably in metric. I fully understand that trying to explain your rights to Genghis Khan would have been tricky. But the Khan was not really moved by morality and I would assume getting slaughtered is objectively bad.
Up can be down
Although ethics differed widely through human history, there is also an abundance of common threads and principles, just inconsistently applied. And the whole point of a principle is consistency; otherwise you can change your views depending on how the wind blows. Principles but– especially the ones which sound good – can often be found in many a culture, and the but is where problems begin. Nobles lorded over indentured peasants but were sensitive about their liberties when the king came a-knocking. I would say that if someone admits a right exists for him, he cannot refuse to extend same to others. Otherwise it can’t be to universal.
But humans rationalize exceptions all the time, when it suits them. An easy way was to consider some humans inferior to others, maybe even less than human. It was a way for the noble to justify oppressing the inferior peasant, while this not being inconsistent with his rights. Another way was basically my people versus the others, the in-group versus the out-group. Same was extended to gender, race, and whatever the hell else was convenient. But if you want to have a somewhat objective principle, it must be universally applied to all homo sapiens. Otherwise it is not really objective.
You can think of asking a question to a person about himself. How many people would have the same answer? I think if you ask someone, “Do you agree that someone can just come and kill you with no repercussion,” I think the vast majority would say no, so we can agree the murder is bad mkay is universal. So then it should be universally applied to all Homo sapiens. I would say that any moral philosophy needs to have axioms, let’s call them the fundamental principles, the paradigm. No exceptions can be made, lest everything becomes an exception. You can’t have math if 1+1 changes value, the formalism should be constant. And there should be a set of clear and logical steps between axioms and theorems that do not change; higher level should be derived from lower level. There should be some level of consistency, not it’s A when it suits me and B when it doesn’t.
Never compromise. Not even in the face of Armageddon
In the previous part, I talked about the basics of human nature and the question of morality. I avoided giving any opinions and just set up things a bit. Now I am going to contribute my 2 satoshi to the debate.
First, I don’t do the religion thing when it comes to morality and do not really see the debate that interesting if one brings the big G into it. What is there to debate if Deus Vult? So I look at things outside the scope of the divine.
Second, I am a believer in objective ethics – as objective as possible would be a better way to phrase it – as it should apply to all humans, and such independent of each person’s subjective opinions.
Third – to clarify the second – I believe there are two spheres for ethics or morality. And these are quite different.
The inner sphere is the personal – what you think is right when it mostly affects you and no other. This is subjective, as the only judge is you. Eating meat or not on a Friday, drinking, drugs come in this sphere. Basically your personal liberty. This can also be fuzzy at parts. Is it OK for one to lie to one’s parents? Well yes, if the car just hit itself with the tree, tricky these cars are.
The second sphere, the outer one, the one where humans interact and where your actions affect others. As others are involved, I believe this is much less subjective. This is, or in my view should be, the main topic of debate.
Fourth, I am for deontological ethics and against utilitarian, because I believe in fundamental principles, a paradigm, a foundation if you will.
This is what libertarians want
Utilitarian ethics I find to be flawed in several respects. They can go down the road of the ends justify the means, and they cannot be anything but subjective, as desired ends differ between people. Of course, inside each human there is a bit of utilitarianism, as many deontologists believe that a good foundation leads to a solid building, good results. Few if any want to live in the world of Mad Max. I mean the cars are cool, but it seems very hot, especially given the leather clothes and lack of showers. That is a recipe for chafing.
On what do I base my so called objective belief in liberty? The fact that humans are unique, autonomous creatures, endowed with free will (I wrote a post on that). I believe only an individual can act, decide the actions, and bear their consequences. Your actions are the one thing that is in your control and the thing you should be judged on. Also, as I can not control others actions directly, I should not be too much affected by them as there is nothing I can do about it, nothing I can change or improve. Due to this I am an individualist. Society is a general term describing groups of humans, it has no substance, one cannot say it exist in the way a rock (or The Rock, for that matter) exists. Societies cannot act, only individuals composing them can. Similarly societies can’t have rights or responsibilities, only individuals can. Human societies are not like ant colonies or other eusocial creatures – like the mighty naked mole rat, which is not, in fact, a mole or a rat-, where individuals are practically indistinguishable from one another and the colony works almost as a single organism. I find these things pretty objective.
I will leave you with some words of C S Lewis as food for though, which I may or may not fully agree.

The NBA started their season last night and somebody from the Celtics got hurt and they lost to the socially-conscious LeBrons. Meanwhile, the Rockets brought their own pyrotechnics to Oakland and torched the Warriors (by 1 point). The Warriors are in last place in the Western Conference. The Maple Leafs continue to impress in hockey after blanking the Caps. Pens won. Preds won. Hurricanes won and Vegas (Strong!) beat Buffalo.

Note the common thread: the “D.” So clearly, Jews wouldn’t vote D, would they? Only at percentages similar to blacks, Puerto Ricans, San Franciscans, and residents of Washington, DC. Even a vicious antisemite and complete incompetent like Carter got 10% more of the Jewish vote than his Team Red opponent. And despite his immersions in a racist and Jew-hating church, and spending taxpayer money meddling in the Israeli election, Obama collected 80% and 70% of the Jewish vote in his two presidential runs. Here’s the party registration breakdown:
Why this totally counter-intuitive electoral tendency? There are several explanations, all of which are part of the truth. But to me, the interesting part is the inevitable conclusion.
1. History: The majority of American Jews are descendants of immigrants in the late 19th and early 20th century, mostly originating from Eastern Europe and Russia. They learned quickly that their succor and support came from the big city political machines like Tammany Hall, which were all Democrat.
2. Sociology: At the time of large Jewish immigration, the Republicans indeed were the party of business and country clubs. The democrats were the party of unions, and Jews were extremely active in unions. Our backgrounds were also mercantile, so things like hunting were not ingrained into us. As a consequence, there’s not many Jews in the NRA, and I’ve never actually met another one at a range. So the regard for Second Amendment rights, which doesn’t impact us (so we think!), tends to be low. We fear crime and want the police to protect us. Self-sufficient weapons handlers abound in Israel, so it’s really more a feature of Eastern European and (later) American Jewish culture than Jewish culture in general.
3. Politics: There’s long been a streak of socialism among secular and Reform Jews, who comprise a majority of American Jews (about 65%). At one time, this was also true of (religious) Conservative and Orthodox Jews, but the latter increasingly have moved toward a (political) conservatism, with nearly 60% of Orthodox Jews identifying as Republican and 70% of Reform and secular Jews identifying as Democrat. My own family was heavily involved in the unionist movements of the 1920s and 1930s, and when I was a kid, the beach we went to in the summer was owned by the Arbeiter Ring (and was one of the very few beaches that would allow Jews in). Many of my family were avowed communists, and an examination of the McCarthy-era blacklists shows a disproportionate Jewish presence. And there’s FDR, who did for the Jews what LBJ did for the blacks- put us in fealty for at least a century.
4. Religion: There’s no question that there is far more philosemitism and support of Zionism among white Evangelicals than just about any other ethno-religious bloc. But the sad reality is, they make us uncomfortable. Evangelism is foreign to us (we do not attempt to convert anyone and pretty much actively discourage it), intermarriage is essentially blotting out American Jewry (more of us marry goyim than other Jews, me being no exception), and Evangelicals generally don’t really understand us and in social situations tend to overcompensate (“We used to have a Jew in our town, a Dr. Goldstein, nice fellow. Do you know him?”). Frankly, they make us nervous. That may be unfair, but it’s reality. So as white Evangelicals moved into the Republican coalition, this put Jews off even further. Statements like, “America is a Christian nation,” and support of school prayer (not ours, of course) further alienate Jews.
5. Tikkun Olam: That’s a Jew phrase meaning “Healing the World,” and it’s central to our culture, especially the Ashkenazi culture which overwhelmingly dominates American Judaism. As with many other people, Jews tend to conflate “helping other people” with “having the government help other people.” Part of that harks back to our experiences with Tammany that I previously mentioned. I gave some egregious examples a few weeks ago in my High Holidays post, and these are not atypical- activism means government activism and that means leftist politics.
6. Assimilation: I talk about this a lot as a peculiarly American phenomenon, and Jews have certainly been no exception. I mentioned intermarriage above and put up a chart below to show how incredibly pervasive this is. And the movement to reform and secular Judaism, which are indistinguishable from Progressive Protestantism is also key to understanding (((our))) voting patterns. The destruction of American Jews as a distinct ethnic group will not come about by extermination; on the contrary, we’re being loved into extinction. And since we are overwhelmingly over-represented in the professional classes and entertainment industry, which skew left, naturally, we’ve accepted that milieu as what’s right and natural.
And now for the dog that didn’t bark: Israel.
One thing that unites Right and Left in this country is a suspicion that Jews have a dual loyalty and that those perfidious Hebes often put Israel’s needs ahead of the US’s. One the one hand, it’s nice that Keith Ellison and Pat Buchanan can find common ground. On the other, it’s a dangerous canard and makes us painfully aware that we’re often under suspicion. But here’s the reality: most American Jews who actually feel loyalty to Israel move there. On the list of issues that motivate American Jews, Israel is far, far down. According to the Pew Research Center, only 30% of American Jews feel emotionally attached to Israel, a much lower number than that for white Evangelicals. American Jews tend to feel that things like “social justice” are far more important than Israel, and in fact feel somewhat uncomfortable that, despite being the one place in the Middle East that doesn’t execute gays, heretics, and dissidents, Israel identifies explicitly as a Jewish state. American Jews did not by and large support the US involvement in Iraq and very much do not want the US to fight wars on behalf of Israel (to be fair, Israelis also don’t want the US to fight wars on their behalf).
So contrary to popular opinion, when it comes to Israel, we just don’t care. And that’s why disguising antisemitism as anti-Zionism has been an effective tactic for Team Blue to keep us from escaping their labor camps; we’re willing to pretend that this isn’t a problem for the Left in exchange for their political involvement in welfare, anti-discrimination, and charity.

Well the Yankees played Game 3 of the ALCS last night. The Astros were nowhere to be found. Also, the ball is juiced when a one-handed slap at a knee-high pitch becomes a 400 foot home run. No complaints, as they all play with the same balls. But come on, MLB. Just admit you’re juicing the ball after all of the pitcher dominance so far in the two championship series. We’ll all feel a little less dirty knowing the truth. Game 4 is this afternoon while the NLCS resumes in the Windy City in the nightcap at 8 pm.

Kaiser Soze Jesus Campos seems to have just disappeared. The security guard shot during, six minutes before the Las Vegas mass shooting that killed over 500 people was about to meet with several news outlets to tell his story. He was a no-show and told his union rep he was going to a walk-in clinic because he didn’t feel well. That was a few days ago and now he’s….simply gone. Meanwhile, the alleged shooter’s home was broken into during the investigation. But the cops assure us there’s nothing missing. And all the footage of the shooter in and around Vegas has not been released but we’re being assured he acted alone.
Yeah, all that adds up and there’s no reason at all to question any of it. It’s just the perfectly normal mass-shooter narrative you read about a retired multimillionaire private pilot son of a man on the FBI’s Most Wanted list with no known political background, no known history of mental illness, a casual life of relaxation and comped rooms at big time Vegas casinos and a relatively successful gambler. Coupled with the only real witness disappearing completely, nobody reacting to the hail of 200+ bullets being fired down the hotel hallway, nobody noticing security cameras setup outside a room, nobody reacting on the floor whatsoever and the police taking more than an hour to even approach the room after the shooting ended. NOTHING. TO. SEE. HERE.

College cheerleaders take knee in protest. Now they say they’re the target of threats. Hey, dumbasses, that’s what can happen when you protest conventional practices and enshrined systems.
Comments on posts linking to an article about the Saluki cheerleeders’ protest in the SIUC student newspaper, The Daily Egyptian, included death and rape threats, they said.

Benjamin Newman, director of the SIU Department Public Safety and chief of police, said in a statement that the department began an investigation of the reported threats as soon as it learned of them.
“Investigators met individually with students reporting the threats and reviewed a number of social media accounts. The investigation found that none of the members of the squad were the subject of direct threats, and no other credible threats have been identified,” Newman said.
Oh, for the love of God. Is this how weak and pussified we’ve become as a society, or is it just California? Hopefully its just California but I doubt it.
