Its a dark day for many of our college baseball faithful here at Glibs. I don’t know what else to say but that I’m sorry that everybody’s team seems to have been knocked out. I say we all find an underdog and jump on the bandwagon! Davidson? Wake Forest? SHSU? Aw, fuck it. Let’s just watch MLB now. And by “watch MLB”, I mean watch the Astros win again. At this rate they’re gonna have to start putting their magic number beside their name in the standings starting at the All-Star Break.
And how bout them Predators? They thumped the Pens to the point that Brett L. wondered aloud last night if they’d sandbagged like the boys in MASH before doubling the bets and putting Spearchucker Jones in the game. (if you don’t now what I’m talking about, get on Netflix and watch the movie, dammit!) The series is anybody’s now, unlike the NBA Finals, which I don’t see the Cavs coming back in.

Alrighty then. I know only a few of you came here for the sports. The rest are here for…the links!

War Machine might be due for a name change. God knows the piece of shit will have plenty of time to come up with one. (And yes, I feel more comfortable calling him names now that he’s been sentenced for a loooooong ass time.)
Reality Winner is a Bernie Girl that has said a lot of crazy shit online. Maybe she’s angling for an insanity defense. The supposed leaker said she’d go to was on Iran’s side against Trump and called him a “piece of shit” for his position on DAPL. (A position shared, I believe, by Hillary Clinton up until it became popular to hate the safer move of oil underground as opposed to rail.) Anyway, I can assure you that her name, while peculiar, does not make her part of my family. Hell, she’s too old to be one of my kids. And we came up with way better names than that dumbass’s parents did.
Apparently, there’s no room for Islamophobic comments in Britain. Not even in the midst of a terrorist attack being carried out by…Islamists praising Allah. If this is real, it does not speak well for the future of the British.
Speaking of terror attacks being carried out by Islamists, looks like the suspects that carried out the attack over the weekend, but not the dozen other individuals quickly arrested in the attack, have easily been identified since they’re TV stars. However, according to the commenters on HuffPo here, its still all about white people and Donald Trump. (The TW is in the link, but the retardation within deserves a second one. BEWARE!)

And with summer here, its time for guys to supplement the wardrobe of rompers they’ve recently purchased with another can’t-miss fashion statement. No spoilers. You gotta see this shit to believe it.
Go ahead and rock a little harder today. (The singer isn’t the eye candy you got yesterday. And for that I apologize.)
Have a hell of a great day, friends.

Not nearly horrifying enough!
Yeah. One of those other monkeys would have to be wearing the other one as a hat.
GAH!
Monkey #2 is getting ready to put monkey #1 on his head.
Hey it’s only first base!
Not it.
Well the Hogs checked out with a resounding meh last night. Never could get the bats going. Missouri st. never really could either. I suspect playing a 6 hour game in the rain that ended at 3:15 the previous night had something to do with both teams being out of sorts.

Save it for Thicc Thursday, you monster.
Thicc Thursday? More like Waddling Wednesday.

DeepDerp Web.What a horrible oppression! We might not get taxpayer or employer funded abortion on demand and women might not get 100% say in the fate of the unborn child, but allow *gasp* fathers some say in the matter?! PATRIARCHY! Fuck the piece of shit that wrote this!
A couple of times, I’ve raised the idea to feminists that, since they believe that only the woman should have any say in abortion, the notion of paternity liability is also outmoded. At the very least, the father should be able to renounce liability and parental rights over the same period the mother can get an abortion.
They didn’t seem to respond too well. One of them even responded that, if they don’t want the liability, they should “just keep it in their pants”. I noted how closely their arguments resembled the “women should just cross their legs” argument. For some reason, that didn’t exactly go over.
Were you surprised some virtue signaling freeloader that wants everyone to know she doesn’t need any man – as long as someone else is picking up the tab though – didn’t like the idea of consequences or being called out on their hypocrisy?
Clearly the notion that the father of an unborn child should at a minimum be consulted by the mother before terminating the pregnancy is LITERALLY HITLER.
As usual with the progs, if someone isn’t being forced at gunpoint to give them money, then they don’t really have rights.
1. Not just male employers
2. except breast augmentation. And penis enhancement. And laser hair removal. And lasic. And liposuction. And psilosybin PTSD treatments. And male pattern baldness…..
But it was the Supreme Court. So they got that one right.
so, a rumored provision in a bill that may or may not ever see the light of day.
Makes a tax credit “nonrefundable” in a way that is entirely unrelated in any way to abortion. As a nod to anti-abortion activists.
Yup. Makes sense.
When you can’t make it through a single sentence without finding at least 2 major mis-statements of basic premises, maybe you should just step away from the keyboard.
The comments are especially derptastic.
Someone said, without a sense of irony, that it was conservatives using 1984, Brave New World, and Fahrenheit 451 as instruction manuals.
Some European health systems don’t pay for contraception or abortions, and they restrict when you can get an abortion. I wonder why they never mention that when they say we should be more like Europe.
Obviously our vast right wing conspiracy has infiltrated deep into the European subconscious, thus making them puppets of the Kochs and the GOP.
Nobody around here knew what hockey was a month ago, now everyone is a die hard preds fan. Crazy.

Reality is overrated.
Agreed. I’d be much happier as a full time, virtual Warlock. I for one, welcome our upcoming Matrix.
I have seen exactly one Preds shirt, in the parking lot of Double Dogs the night of game 3.
I see hats everywhere. My fb page is filled with it.
LIES!
I just want to erase some of the Blackhawks’ shame with a Preds win.
What is a Pred?
I also root against the Patriots unless they’re playing the Cowboys. Sometimes hate is the only emotion you can bring.
I hate the Pats. Paying Brady under the table and nobody bats an eye. My love of football has died off in the last few years and that’s a big reason why. That and my Bills never can win a freaking football game
Fuck Tom Brady.
Let your hate flow – I love it. When I was going Pats game as a kid, nobody could be bothered to even mildly dislike us.
Because they sucked. Then they decided to start cheating and the rest is history.
1. Bo fucking ho
2. The ’76 Patriots were easily the best team in the NFL. Al Davis bought the refs in the AFC Championship – the 4th quarter was a series of terrible calls culminating in this one that gave the Raiders the a free ticket to the Superbowl.
Whycome you bo whores?
Tuck rule anyone?
They pay Tom under the table, it’s BS. They shouldn’t have a dime of cap for anyone else on that team.
Those of with long memories loved that it happened against the Raiders. Fuck them.
I love that it happened to the Raiders, but hate that it happened to Rich Gannon.
The Chiefs should have rebuilt their offense around him, because he managed to win with an offense he couldn’t actually execute.
your team cheats.

I only support the Solar Bears ironically.
Before I became a rabid Red Wings fan, I got into them because everyone at my office was, and the first time for the Stanley Cup. But that early fandom did turn into one that lasted for a decade, where I used to watch/listen to every game. Now? Ever since Yzerman retired, my interest really slid.
I beg your pardon?
Prednisone is awesome. I put in my best swim times when on that stuff.
I wonder how many of those fans actually ever play (ed) ball or ice hockey.
Great story though. Let’s hope they continue to be fans.
Did Carolina keep their fans after the cup?
I don’t know about their fans, but they built a pretty robust hockey base there. I was able to play drop in every night of the week when I was stuck in Raleigh for a month a few years ago at a bunch of different rinks.
No, once the product sucked, the fans went away. That arena is a ghost town. Improve the product and they’ll be back.
Not true. I’ve known about hockey for most of my life. It’s the only sport that’s even close to being watchable. But, like every other sport, ultimately I really don’t care about it either.
Nope. Still not a hockey fan.
I’m rooting for the Penguins.
Because I lived in Pittsburgh for awhile.

WAPO is putting together his byline right now.
I assumed that was a chick whether it was written by a man or a woman.
The Post has really lost it over the last few months. I don’t think there’s any comparable episode in history where a newspaper so fully and completely went over the edge that quickly.

The entire comment thread is like a giant struggle session with the reality that they’re not gonna get their way.

Wow, that person really hates Obama and his fanboys. “After the election, I’ll have a lot more flexibility.”

Yeah, that’s a good strategy for persuading people to your side. Keep it up, assholes, because this is how you get more Trump.
What every progressive journalist at NYT or WaPo or any other outlet that sucks DNC pipi wishes they could say or write.
That’s the Opening Statement of the Trump 2020 Re-election Committee
“But enough about Obama…”
“Are you ALL too fuckin’ stupid to realize that THE ENTIRE WORLD is watching”
You know, I was recently in the UK and met several people who wanted to talk about how much they loved Trump when they found out I was American. I thought it was hilarious. I remember one dude saying, “I fookin’ loov ‘im. Says wha’ever’s on ‘is mind, fook all.”
On another note, when I told them I didn’t vote for Trump or Hilary I usually got, “You didn’t vote?” I guess they don’t realize we have third parties. Of course, most Americans don’t realize we have third parties.
I also love the implication in that statement that, for some reason, we should care what the rest of the world thinks about us. OMG, the rest of the world thinks we’re a laughing stock because we elected that idiot Trump and don’t have free healthcare for everyone and let people run around with guns! Why should I care?
Hey man, Obama isn’t president anymore!
Are you ALL too fuckin’ stupid to realize that THE ENTIRE WORLD is watching as you continue to support/defend a man who continues to act like an ignorant, self-absorbed jerk-off whose only real interest is how much money he and his family members can pocket as a result of his so-called “presidency”?
It’s as if they’re trying as hard as they can to make me like the guy.
Why are they still talking about the Clintons?
Ken, you can cheer for some boys up in Huntsville. Sam Houston State v. FSU in the super-regional elimination game.
That’s what I was thinking. Davidson is the ultimate underdog but they’re too white and rich for a white person to casually root for lest that white person be accused of racism. So I’m gonna go with SHSU!

“Winner admitted to FBI agents that she stole the documents and provided them to The Intercept. The news site published an article on Monday that appears to be based on the stolen materials. The Top Secret records show that Russian agents attempted to hack into U.S. voting systems prior to the November election.”
I guess I missed this story. So, Russians really did try to hack the voting machines?
According to this one unsubstantiated story. But it’s being called a dubious claim by a lot of outlets.
Their “hacking attempt” was a couple of phishing emails sent to people at a company that operates many of the voting machines.
It’s akin to saying they tried to hack google because a couple employees got a Nigerian prince email.
Or it’s just like the “Russia tried to hack the US electrical grid!!!!1!1!!” story from a while back.
Their “hacking attempt” was a couple of phishing emails sent to people at a company that operates many of the voting machines.
And not everyone is as stupid as Podesta.
I don’t pay much attention to the MSM. I would have to think that if there was finally evidence of the Russians actually doing something signifigant, The MSM would be screaming so loud that I wouldn’t have been able to avoid hearing it.
You’ve been able to avoid hearing about it?
The thing that strikes me is how many stories fit into the same pattern (that commentators here have ridiculed) of anonymous sourced leak based stories.
There are enough people in the supposed national security sector that don’t give two shits about security or their own personal honor as long as they can score political points.
Forget hacking, Russian intelligence could just pose as reporters and get the goods by the bucketful. Hell, I bet those leakers wouldn’t even notice if it was RT they were giving classified info to.
Hell, they don’t even have to pose as reporters. All they have to do is buy subscriptions to the NYT and the Washington Post.
It’s a lot cheaper than maintaining an intelligence service.
You’d spend more time trying to sift thru the ton of shit to find the one nugget of truth.
I think a functioning intelligence service would actually be more cost effective.
Yeah I missed that story. Which is strange given thats the narrative they have been pushing, you think they would have laughed on to some hard evidence.
would have laughed on to some hard evidence.
Typo for the win.
I was having trouble understanding the article until I realized the ladies name was “Reality Winner”.
*checking intersectional scorecard*
Her standing within in the government will allow for the hammer to be dropped on her but due to her stance on issues will be portrayed as a martyr standing up for us all.
As far as I know, voting machines are not networked, and can’t be hacked from the outside. It is more phishing scams=hacking story. This has not stopped the redditers I was reading earlier this morning from coming to that conclusion though. Some have surmised, with no evidence, that tallies must have been changed, because of course, they would not have arrested the young patriot if it wasn’t true.
If I understood it correctly, the hacked companies make voter registration systems, not voting machines. But then I seem to remember stories about DHS attempting to penetrate state voter registration systems too.
Oh, and according to the story at least one of the hacked companies didn’t have contracts with WI, MI, PA or OH, which were the states key to Trump’s win.
6th of June – D-Day is upon us.
My favorite Sabaton song. They’re really a paint-by-numbers band, who kinda write the same song over and over. But when they’re good they’re really really good. Carolus Rex is my favorite album.
“Reality Winner is a Bernie Girl that has said a lot of crazy shit online.”
So many interesting parts to this story.
1. How did someone so dumb get a job at the NSA?
2. Apparently political ideology isn’t looked into when the NSA does it’s pre-employment background check.
3. “Lone wolf” leakers are the best way to politically weaponize government agencies, because the ruling parties can easily deny involvement.
4. Why was that information classified?
5. Progs are desperate for anything that they think will bring down Trump.
Reality Winner, libertarian heroine or contract-breaking monster?
She’d need to be a little hotter to be a proper libertarian monster.
If she said she would go fight with Iran to stand up to Trump, was a Bernie supporter, and worked for an NSA contractor, I am going with authoritarian shitbag who wanted to embarrass the authoritarian shitbags in power now who are not the shitbags she wanted to be working for. I am not seeing how libertarian fits into that. But I could be wrong.
I had a confuse. I need WaPo to produce a graphic flow chart to help me interpret.
I guess for me, Motive plays a part, but also the information that is leaked. I could care less that Edward Snowden isn’t a picture perfect Libertarian, what he leaked was important for the public to know. PVT Manning, on the other hand, leaked anything he(at the time) could get his hands on. He showed no discretion or discernment like ES.
The document she leaked is not any sort of definitive proof of anything, but it sure will help feed the narrative. She is no Snowden pointing out illegal activities of our own Government against its citizens. She wanted to help feed the narrative that Trump’s win was illegitimate. Which to some I guess is a noble thing. I don’t know, I think it doesn’t help. The voting system was not “hacked”, but there are millions of people who think that these days.
1. Government.
Well there’s your problem right there. Funny that the pussy hatters and Muslims share some of their support base. Which are the useful idiots I wonder….
I still find the whole idea that someone with a background like that could retain a security rating even after a cursory inspection.
That’s not to say a smarter individual couldn’t have had those opinions, but not posted them all over the internet for all to read, but I’d like to think that someone, somewhere in Pluribus is having his ass kicked and his pink slip written up for letting this pass. And then there’s the little matter of the screening our wonderfully efficient government employees should be undertaking.
I know it’s hard to get qualified Farsi and Pashtun subject matter specialists, but c’mon – this (if what we’re hearing is true) – is retarded.
If someone at NSA isn’t executing the nuclear option on the Pluribus contract, I’d be surprised.
Yeah, but it’ll be for career protection, not because of due diligence.
Oh definitely; and the next contractor will hire 90% of the same workers.
Optics will have happened.
One other item that a friend of mine brought up is that if she’s still an Air Force Reservist (and she may well be), then she’s still subject to UCMJ and therefore, a bunk in Leavenworth (or equivalent) may well await.
“How did someone so dumb get a job at the NSA?”
Makes sense, actually. Create a report which sells a certain sort of narrative, but keep it under wraps. Hire/clear a bunch of radical lunatics whose agenda would be advanced by the report, and make sure they can get access to it. When one of them eventually gives in to temptation and leaks it, your hands are completely clean.

Where is the legal line for charging different prices to different groups of customer? I’m guessing membership groups are okay but clearly ethnic groups are not. Does being a recipient of welfare actually count as a membership group now like AAA?
Interestingly, I’ve read senior discounts are illegal as age discrimination but it’s something no one cares to take to court or enforce.
So normal Prime members will get to subsidize them twice. Wonderful.
Seriously, this kind of shit will make me reconsider renewing my Prime account if they raise the fee.
Killin’ it
When Andrew Lack became chairman of NBC News in 2015, he announced his intent to shift MSNBC away from Keith Olbermann-style bloviation and toward nonpartisan, straight-ahead news gathering.
Mr. Olbermann may be long gone. Yet the network’s rise has relied largely on its sharply opinionated commentary, with Ms. Maddow moving to No. 1 in prime time on the strength of monologues devoted to President Trump’s ties to Russia, and with Lawrence O’Donnell speaking openly about impeachment.
In an interview, Mr. Lack rejected the notion that MSNBC was a Fox News for the left.
“I don’t buy it,” he said, his voice rising. “And honestly, I’ve never been comfortable with the Fox examples, of how we compare to them, or being an alternative to them. I don’t think we’re an alternative to anything. We’re live, breaking news during the day, and the smartest, most insightful opinion space we can create at night.”
Whatever helps you sleep at night, pal.
Except it was explicitly created out of the ashes of Air America – a Soros funded attempt to counter Limbaugh.
The entire point was to capture the mirror image crowd to the Fox News fans. They didn’t make a secret of their intentions.
Completely ignoring the fact that the mirror image crowd to the Fox News fans already had CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, etc. etc. The success of Fox News was that they served a market that was not being served by anyone else.
Which is why it didn’t take off until the antichrist took office. I mean, the real antichrist. I know Bush was the antichrist before, but he was a mini-antichrist. Trump is really the real antichrist.
Anyway, now that Trump is in office, just hearing that republicans are bad and democrats are good isn’t enough. You need full-on screaming about a demon from hell that is here to destroy the entire earth. So you go to MSNBC to find like-minded commentary.
Honestly, one of the few things I’ve respected about them is that they haven’t tried to hide their bias.
A CNN spokeswoman, Barbara Levin, referred to CNN as “the one nonpartisan cable news network” and noted the anchors Jake Tapper and Anderson Cooper had beaten MSNBC in their time slots last month in the crucial demographic.
Not sure if serious.
Well in their minds they aren’t partisan because they are reporting what they believe is true.
CNN earned their moniker of “Clinton News Network”. They weren’t partisan. They were for Clinton. Heck, they even helped tank Bernie so she could win. So – in true Clinton word-parsing fashion – they speak the truth. It wasn’t partisan. All enemies of the Clinton machine have been fair game. It remains to be seen if the Clinton-spawn can take up the mantle and continue the good fight, or if CNN will have t become just another democrat machine outlet.
13 Alabama counties saw 85 percent drop in food stamp participation after work requirements restarted
What this doesn’t say is that probably 3000 of those 5538 went on full disability instead.
Yeah, that’s the new dole, and I have no idea how you can reform that. Short of draconian punishments for doctors writing fraudulent disability.
Law of Unintended Consequences. People who can’t or won’t find jobs will find another way to live. We’d be better off giving people a free move to a place that has jobs.
AKA, the Kinison method.
The Merkel Method?
He said jobs, O desecrator of Zardoz, not welfare.
Oh SNAP!
*Slyly avoids a “narrowed gaze” by posting after everyone else leaves for the 3 new posts*
That will help the “can’t find jobs”. The “won’t find jobs”, not so much.
Even then it don’t do shit. You get a lawyer and a couple of doctors to scam the system and then when they get caught they jump bail.
And by “caught”, I mean convicted. The dude was convicted in a $550 million disability scam and was still out on bail awaiting sentencing. Even though he told people he had money hidden and would run.
Stupid fucking Feds.
Look, the Feds allowed Frank Dux to escape from a fricking bathroom as documented in the biopic “Bloodsport”. You really expect them to catch a guy with that many resources?
Disability scamming is a huge deal. At least around here it is. My father in law employs a lot of unskilled temporary labor that he pays under the table. A lot of the people he employs are guys drawing a disability check who are looking to make a little extra.
I’ve mentioned my friend before who is on disability – for anxiety and migraines. We’ve often discussed businesses to start up, but he’s afraid of making any income that can be reported and losing his disability (and healthcare).
It’s not a safety net, it’s a hammock. /sound clever with a British accent
That’s no
moonsafety net!Dangit i messed up those tags.
*Edit fairy hovers by helpfully*
A co-worker suggested that I go on disability. He’s the second person to make the suggestion in two weeks. The thing is that I went out on disability through my employer for two months while I was actively undergoing treatment for cancer and I hated it. There’s no way I could have kept working, making it from the couch to the bathroom was a major effort, but not working made me feel absolutely useless. Work is difficult now, everything is, but I’m still able to function on the job and I’m having a fairly minimal impact on my employer so why should I quit? And, honestly, I feel if I did nothing all day I would just get sicker. For me it isn’t about being ashamed of living on the public teat, although I would be, but staying as active as I possibly can. Going on disability for me would be the equivalent of saying, “I give up.”
Good for you for sticking with it. I can’t see it being good for my long term welfare to not be working either.
I have a cousin whose husband did temp labor for a couple years in his late-twenties, always trying to get himself injured on the job so he could claim workman’s comp. He hit the jackpot and found a doctor who would sign off on disability for some horseshit nerve pain. Fast forward about ten years and now my cousin is essentially his hospice caretaker because he’s so far gone to alcoholism and diabetes.
Herbert got it wrong, unemployment is the mind-killer.
I have a friend who is a private investigator the insurance companies hire to take pictures of people who are supposedly disabled working on various home projects.
According to him, you have to be pretty egregious to even get the insurance companies to take notice (i.e. you won’t even try to do anything like sit in a comfy chair at work and try answering a phone). Then when you get caught they simply stop paying the claim. They almost never go after the money they already paid you or charge you with fraud in court.
Probably would cost them more to try to recover than to just end the gravy train ride then and there, but yeah, what is the incentive then to not cheat the system if there are no consequences?
There’s no waste, fraud, or abuse in the welfare system, and anyone who says there is is just a racist who hates children.
And women.
There’s a lot of all three, but it’s the refuge of cowardly Republicans to claim that eliminating it would fix welfare and make it long-term solvent.
You’ll know we’re ten months from collapse when Democrats start parroting that line as a way to shore it up.
NPR assured me that wouldn’t happen.
https://californianewss.com/2017/06/05/husband-knocks-big-bully-guy-verbally-harassing-wife/
The derpiest of my Derpbook friends call this a hate crime, context be damned. While not exactly square with the NAP, talk about a man’s wife and you get what you get.
On second glance, that seemed a touch staged.
Glassing is pretty rough.
I saw a little guy glass a football player in college with a glass mug. Football player didn’t fall down. We had to pull the football player off the little guy before he killed him.
I saw the opposite, which was more interesting. Actually, I missed the actual fight. But I was in the next room and saw the aftermath…
This was at a house party during college. The little guy was about 5’6 – 5’7″or so, from Viet Nam. He had a cute little blond girlfriend and a couple of guys from the football time started harassing him about it. He didn’t say anything. But when they started jibing her that she should be with a “real man”, he gets up and tells them they need to apologize. (the actual quote was “You say something about me, I no care. You say something about the lady, now we have a problem”)
So one of the football players takes a swing at him and he… well, here’s how he described it: “I duck and spin around and smack him in the face. But he was pretty strong, because he got up.” By “smack” he meant kicked with a roundhouse. It turns out, he was a grand tournament champion at Tae Kwon Do. “So I smack him again, 1,2,3. He don’t get up this time.”
Then his friend come at me and swing at my face. I see something flash and I jump back and I see he have a knife. So I reach up and touch my forehead and see I am bleed. Now, I am mad.”
(holy crap, you just knocked that big linebacker out, and you weren’t even mad?)
“If I am bleed, somebody gonna bleed with me. So I sweep up and kick away his hand and he drop the knife. Then, I spin around and smack him with my fist that have my beer. “
{Holy crap, you knocked a guy out who swung first, and didn’t even drop your beer? )
The second guy got hit with a spinning back fist with a mostly full bottle of beer. He fell through the coffee table. He’s the one who ended up in the hospital. The whole thing took maybe 20 seconds. By the time anyone figured out there was a commotion going on, it was over. He needed a couple of tiny stitches where he got cut over his eye. The redneck who pulled a knife on him suffered hearing damage from the back fist to the ear.
Lesson learned. Don’t judge a book by its cover. And don’t pull a knife on the martial arts guy…. you might piss him off.
Looks staged. Sound is great but the camera is far. Dialog seems like it was written and rehearsed since it’s delivered so clearly given the ostensible rush of adrenaline.
FAAAAAKE. They were obviously mic-ed up from that distance.
Agreed. I’ve seen a lot of cuck pr0n and that is never the way that story goes….
How the hell is it a hate crime? Have we arrived at the point where any white guy who commits a crime against a black guy is guilty of a hate crime?
thats the definition of hate crime, so yes.
I’m don’t understand what the hell the British video was showing. Why did the cops have them all cower like pussies during a knife attack? Why didn’t they form an old fashioned English mob and beat the fuckers to death?
Where are the soccer hooligans when you need them?
I played with knifes a lot when I was a kid – had a boot knife, a switchblade (made from a kit), the ol’ Rambo knife, and of course multiple jack knifes. Good for woodcraft and whittling.
The idea of a knife attack – especially by a few guys against many, makes me shake my head. Maybe in *real life I would run away like a little schoolgirl, but there are plenty of other common melee weapons I would prefer to have over a knife. Like a heavy stick or metal pipe, or even a solidly built chair.
Yes, I’ll take a nice metal Easton.
or even knives. Sleep deprivation not so good for the noggin.
Couple big dudes, maybe cranked up on drugs, maybe with real big knives… my first inclination would be to run away in the absence of any type of force multiplier, honestly. Probably nobody realized it was a coordinated attack at first.
It is all situational, isn’t it? In that case I would probably run for it too, unless I had no choice or had to protect my family.
But I’ve been in a couple (punk rock days) fights and even had someone charge at me with a knife. I managed to get out of those situations without even a bruise. Of course I knew a guy who got stabbed a dozen times outside of a show and ended up in the hospital!
Definitely highly situational. My first instinct if some crazy asshole charges into the bar with a knife would be self-preservation, so I wouldn’t judge anybody for scrambling under the circumstances. On the other hand, I’m a little surprised a gang of lads didn’t self-organize once the situation became clearer. After I’m out of the immediate situation, if you and Tundra are standing in the same bar and you yell out “let’s jump him”, I’m with you guys.
As this shit keeps happening, I think you’ll see more violent retaliation. Like post 9/11 airplanes. Anyone who whips out a box cutter or some other stupid shit on a plane is gonna get beaten to death.
Still, arm your fucking cops and citizens, Britain. You owe them the chance to fight back.
Sure I run if outnumber by guys wit knives. That’s not what in the video. That’s a bar full of people – half of them adult males – and a half-dozen of those British cops without guns but with billy-clubs and mace. All kinds of bottles and barstools available for weaponry. That is plenty of firepower right there to take care of a few shitheads with knives.
A group of able bodied dudes all throwing as many glass beer mugs would go a long way towards dissuading a knife attacker.
They’re Brits, so you have to hope you’ve got one or two cricket bowlers or glassware big enough to be hurled two-handed over the head like a soccer ball.
Or some rugby players who’ll knock them down and knee them in the balls while politely apologizing and offering them beer.
No kidding. Where’s Bigby when you need him?
Ahh, I didn’t watch the video. That does sound a little different. I wouldn’t think a stabbing in a bar would be something real exotic for cops in the UK.
Yeah, but information is lagging in these situations.
I’ve been in smaller, but similarly violent situations a couple of times and by the time you figure out what is actually happening it is almost over.
But you are right. All it would take would be one guy to stand up and say “grab a club and let’s get them” for the whole thing to change.
Barstools and chairs deployed intelligently take a lot of the danger out of confronting an assailant with a knife, but we’re talking London in the 2010’s, not the 1960’s. Most of these guys’ exposure to violence is going to be name-calling in the playground.
You can’t criticize ’em too harshly for complying. Most of them will have been conditioned to that since their childhood. I must admit that given a credible path to exit the premises, I would have adopted my most effective Run-Fu tactics and exited stage left with all haste.
Are telescoping batons legal? Because of anything that seems like a pretty good thing to have around.
Not in the UK. The police can have them, but not the public.
Bleed out and think of England.
The UK is like New Jersey, New York, California, etc. – they insist that their citizens be completely unarmed victims.
Good old fashioned people have been ostracized out of existence with relatively few exceptions.
In my old age, I’m such a contrarian, I worry about what I would have done in that situation. I can see myself telling the cops to go fuck themselves and standing up.
On the other hand, in the US I am scared enough of the cops to be worried that they might shoot my ass for failure to obey that I might duck and hide. Hard to say. probably depends on how many beers I had already consumed.
John Kerry Says U.S. Treats Muslims Better Than Britain and That’s Why U.K. Faces Extremism
What an asshole
There is something to say for how Muslims are for the most part integrated here, as compared to Europe where most of them live in what are effectively ghettos.
This, however, doesn’t seem to be what he’s talking about.
Which is funny. I thought that the EU was so much better than us in this respect because they had hate speech laws and we allow microaggressions!
But Brexit ruined Britain.
/derp
I think that’s more to do with the ocean then anything special the US is doing. Europe is right next door and at a much higher risk of receiving more of the lowest quality people of the Middle East. The United States has no silver bullet when it comes to race relations and cross-cultural incompatibilities. The network of racial laws, institutional biases and the utter pervasiveness of white guilt tells me that the United States is not an example to strive for.
In Maine at least, they are effectively in ghettos. They are also largely isolated from the larger community. My GF is a school counselor in the town with the highest muslim population (mostly Somali) and she talks about how the culture at large seems happy to just ignore all of the horrors that go on in that community. FGM being one of the most obvious. Polygamy is another.
I’m fine with people wanting to stick to their in-group, but letting children be mutilated because we’re too afraid to say something is just shameful.
You know where else you can find people who want to stick to their in-group?
Rotherham.
I know I’m gonna sound like a contributor to Taki’s Mag, but there’s no bright future in having unassimilated, self-imposed ghettos full of people whose fundamental world view is substantially different from the host country.
I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but historically, immigrants have tended to stick to their in-groups. There are Chinatowns in most major cities because of this phenomenon. It’s not necessarily a bad thing. Their kids tend to integrate. From what I’ve seen around here, this tends to be fairly true of the Somali population.
The trouble comes in that Muslims seem inclined to establish parallel societies, including what are essentially vigilante legal organizations.
I can’t help but feel that a lot of this could be solved by just taking a hard line against the hardliners. Rotherham was allowed to happen because of cowardice.
First-generation immigrants? Sure. Makes perfect sense, and moving to a new, unfamiliar culture is stressful, uncertain and most immigrants benefit hugely from a ‘support network’ that a ghetto brings.
The issue, of course, is that there’s a relatively common thread in European terror. Disaffected male youth; whether the children of those ‘normal’ immigrants, or young ‘singleton’ fresh immigrants who fit in in those ghettoes and are given protective cover within them, while they become radicalized. The West cannot rely on the derpy, stupid behavior many current ‘hardliners’ exhibit.
Eventually they’ll figure out that they really shouldn’t be appearing on TV shows literally telling the kuffar what they’ll do. For a young (particularly unmarried, but married too) muslim man with a history of behavior which he believes damns him forever from paradise, the temptation to jihad – especially during Ramadan – probably doesn’t seem extreme at all.
So, you either repress the ideology, deny muslim youth the ability to sin, or you eliminate the social support structure of the ghetto. There isn’t much more you can do other than make sure it happens over the border in someone else’s country. Of all the options, the latter is the most humane of a series of inhumane options.
“Taking a hard line against the hardliners” is certainly an option – but the devil is in the details. What are the policy prescriptions which are wrapped up in the idea of “a hard line”?
John Kerry, Super Genius.
+1 Acme Jubbah full of Composite 4
Oh c’mon, John. What’s more welcoming than offering up your 13 year olds for raping?
ZING!
+1 Lot
Or maybe we have relatively fewer problems with Muslims here because they are a much smaller percentage of the population.
Don’t worry though, the left is working hard to make sure they reach a critical mass where they feel at ease enough to start acting out.
I really appreciate what he concedes here. If you aren’t welcoming enough to the Muslims, they’ll start murdering and raping the host population. You know, just like the Irish or something.
Or the fucken Guineas!

Well good. Now that that is settled, You can remove all the taxes and regulations from the pot industry.

Who? What companies? I would have to see some hard data to believe that one. There were some solar panel companies that got some good grant money for the connected owners years ago, but last I heard they were bankrupt environmental disasters awaiting cleanup.
It’s about two thousand industry employees and 58 thousand bureaucrats.
I don’t who, but somebody must own all those windmills. I don’t believe those are nearly as clean as they say either.
They kill a lot of fucking birds, that’s for sure.
People don’t realize how fast those blades are turning because it looks like they’re moving slow. I assure you, they are not.

Hell, if all of these are true, I’d probably move there so I could vote Conservative. You know, if she wasn’t a piece of shit otherwise (like, say, on *expanding* Britain’s already massive surveillance state). I especially like the criticism for her saying “There is no magic money tree”
I don’t get #6. “Hard Brexit demands” being actually going through with Brexit?

Sez you. Ozzy is dead sexy.
Hey, how come we never hear of or about Hitler’s family?
Sounds like a good cover story for not being able to get laid.
That is fucking fascinating.
Huh.
I guess no Todd Hitler will be coming around.
Little Hitler!
That was really interesting. Can you imagine being a kid in NY and your parents saying “Hey, listen – your Great Uncle? Literally Hitler.”
Trump does have Great Nephews and Nices, so I’m sure this does happen.
“I mean, not great, great. Just your grandma’s half-brother.”
I used to have a second-in-command named “Mike Littler” who used to handle discipline in the team when one of the noob engineers got out of line harassing one of the female staff at the facility we manned (this is back in the UK in the 80’s). He relished that part of the job.
Sadist.
That’s kind of sad. Why would someone refuse to have kids because a relative was an asshole?
How many times do we have to post this?
I saw a headline about Chelsea just yesterday.
Oh, I thought we were talking about the other evil H.
I’m not too upset. UNCG managed to win a game and managed to take Clemson to its limit in two losses. Kind of cool just to see them in the postseason.
I still have my Florida fandom (FSU) to follow now.
“A Breitbart News editor said on Monday that she had been fired from the conservative news site for the anti-Muslim tweets she sent after a terrorist attack in London on Saturday.
The editor, Katie McHugh, who has written hundreds of articles for the site since 2015 and previously worked for The Daily Caller, said on Twitter, “Breitbart News fired me for telling the truth about Islam and Muslim immigration.” . . . . Shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, Ms. McHugh tweeted, “There would be no deadly terror attacks in the U.K. if Muslims didn’t live there.”
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/06/05/business/media/breitbart-editor-fired-tweets.html
Three observations:
1) Bretbart is probably trying too hard for mainstream acceptance.
It’s never going to happen. The more they try to be accepted the mainstream, the more they’ll be hated for it by their fans. It’s like a hardcore band selling out.
Here’s a video from that time Celtic Frost went glam.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI74tyUefY4
Your fans will hate you for it. The mainstream will never accept you–not for selling out to them–anyway.
I went to the show on that tour in Hollywood. The audience was mostly skinheads–and they got really violent towards the band.
2) Does the alt-right have an aesthetic thing going, where you bug your eyes out to look like Pepe the Frog?
McHugh’s got that look in her photos. It seems to be sort of like the alt-right version of a duck-face selfie.
Communist dictators used to have an aesthetic thing, where they’d look at you kind of cross-eyed in photos as if they were so smart, they were slightly insane–not like the rest of us.
3) There’s something very millennial about seeking money from anonymous strangers when something bad happens. It’s that all pervasive victim worship, I tells ya!
A public victim of something is like the best thing you can be in their society. Then you get to turn yourself into a cause. Finally it happened to me! Now won’t you all send me some money?
Don’t stick it in crazy, Ken.
Looks like someone already is in that picture.
It’s a carefully produced and cropped image of her.
Kill it! Kill it with fire!
Nice fivehead.
Hawt
But that’s not the picture she uses!
For her social media, etc., she wants the bug-eyed one. Yeah, carefully produced, cropped, chosen, . . .
She wants to look like that.
I don’t really blame her for not using the pic where she pulled out half of her eyebrow hairs.
I bet Ivan Lendl had that. It was torture watching him serve because his routine included yanking out eyebrow hairs.
It feels like SF has a hotkey set up just to post that definition.
She’s got a monster forehead. Also, don’t her eyes look just a little too far apart? Like those fucking gypsies that live in North Augusta, SC?
Anybody from the Deep South will know who I’m talking about. Those motherfuckers run their scams all over the place down there.
Are you talkin’ ’bout Irish Travelers?
It’s these guys!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Travellers#United_States
I think he’s picking on my people.
Are you Irish?
Picking on Irish Travelers isn’t necessarily picking on the Irish. They’re probably hated more by the Irish than anybody.
Brad Pitt played an Irish Traveler in “Snatch”.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySyBMTo-1sc
People call them “gypsies” because they travel around en masse and thought to work scams, but they’re not the Roma.
“Real” Gypsy.
Lock up your horses, children and anything that ain’t bolted down to the floor.
It’s a different ethnic group but the same idea.
People on the road a lot tend to do the same kinds of things, I guess–and drifters (Roma, Irish Travelers, or others) tend to get blamed whenever something bad happens.
A lot of the prejudice is probably a function of the anonymity. in smaller towns, everybody knows everybody else, where they live, etc. Then a group of people come to town, and nobody knows if they’re who they say they are, and nobody knows where they live. It probably makes them seem . . . unaccountable.
That’s the way people see drifters, too–it’s just that with some groups its tied to ethnicity and has a longer history.
Well, historically, Roma (at least in Britain) were pretty cavalier about property rights. Centuries of oppression by ‘gadjes’ inevitably led a lot of them to realize that if they were going to be blamed for every minor disappearance that happened, they might as well get the benefits.
Again, in Britain, some of the reputation for dishonesty came from their horse trading. Inevitably, they’d have foals and yearlings for sale that weren’t exactly great buys, and typically an experienced breeder would have numerous ways of hiding those defects, just like an unscrupulous used car salesman. And it was easy to blame the gypsy trader for a poor buying decision when explaining the purchase to friends.
They were also some of the last holdouts in running dog- and cock-fighting, which further burnished their ‘disreputable’ status.
Here in the States, you run into the ones who selling blacktop for your drive-way.
Story is it’s left-over from some big job, and they’ll let you have the left-over for a steal.
It is a steal, and you’re the one getting robbed.
They paved my parents’ driveway-did a helluva job. Seriously, I was really surprised.
They’re not *all* shiftless ne’er-do-wells.
I know the ones who came thru here some years ago did driveways that looked really good and held up for probably 6 months; then they basically disintegrated.
My FiL told them to fuck off, and then fucked with his neighbor for years over getting ripped off by em.
THAT COMMON LOOK WHEN STEVE SMITH STICK IT IN CRAZY. OR ANYTHING ELSE!

Their eyes are open to the truth.
“There would be no deadly terror attacks in the U.K. if Muslims didn’t live there.”
A testament to the lasting power of the Good Friday Agreement, I guess. We hear about a bombing or shooting in the UK and don’t automatically think IRA or UDA anymore.
Yeah I don’t see anything controversial about that statement.
Feds Wouldn’t Prosecute NASA Intern Caught Downloading Kiddie Porn
I don’t get too exercised about this stuff without knowing what’s going on. Is he watching pubescent 17 year olds or prepubescent 7 year olds. It makes a difference over how I react.
Didn’t say what ages in the story or the linked document. The one thing I’m pretty damn sure about is that no judge in the country has ever handed down a truncated sentence on kiddie porn charges to spare some common pleb his job.

Time for the progressives to go fully hypocrite–like full retard hypocrite.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-charges-contractor-with-leaking-nsa-document-on-russian-hacking-1496710598
The main reason Ed Snowden was hounded and hated by so many on the left wasn’t because he leaked to the press. It was because he made Barack Obama look bad–in the progressive mind, that was the worst thing you could do.
Now the same progressives who slogged Snowden like a traitor for leaking to the press will be holding this leaker up as the best thing since Rosa Parks–as sure as the sun will rise tomorrow.
The sun is not going to rise tomorrow, Ken. Didn’t you hear. We pulled out of the Paris agreement. The end of the world is nigh upon us.

Uh, no. Fear is quite useful and shouldn’t be overcome unless you are in a battle or protecting your family.
Uber wants to open a headquarters in Oakland. But, The People’s Republic of Oakland (No Uber Oakland) is giving them a list of DEMANDS.
Does this “No Uber Oakland” own every available Real Estate place? No? Then i don’t know why they think they should be successful in pushing demands.
I bet they, or someone they know intimately, owns all of the taxi medallions and several local politicians though.
See: Chik-Fil-A and the progressive cities that did the same bullshit to them.
It drives me crazy that courts will grant groups like this standing. As my parents used to say “Your dog ain’t in this hunt”
I drive by a Chil-Fil-A on my way to work. Back a few years ago when the big boycott Chick-Fil-A hubbub was going on, a small group of protestors decided to stand in the parking lot with their signs and have a little protest.
I have never seen that place a tenth as packed with customers as it was that day. The drive through line was backed up into the road. There were people waiting in line outside to get in and order. I remember the manager actually send some food and drink to the protestors, who were being aggressively ignored by everyone else.
I remember the manager actually send some food and drink to the protestors,
Why not? Sounds like they were really helping his business.
What a bunch of twats.
If you don’t like Uber, don’t use it. Otherwise shut your piehole.

Why do these companies continue to want to be located in the Bay Area? A metro that is exceptionally hostile to free enterprise in a state that’s exceptionally hostile to free enterprise. Is it about social signaling and feelz? If I had a start-up with potential billions in market cap, I’d be setting it up in Wyoming or something.
I think the theory is that is where the employees want to be.
But I think you could set up plenty of places and they would be happy. Maybe not Wyoming. Nashville or something.
If I was opening an engineering office, it would be in Salt Lake City. Lots of normies with good technical skills, just don’t ask them to work too much overtime.

Gosh, that kinda change can kill people. (okay i don’t know if it actually can but it would certainly be quite a shock)
It can. I’ve been on a mountain when a front rolled thru and the temps dropped precipitously. It put a couple of people into hypothermia because they weren’t prepared for it.

You know what else happened the last time the gales of November came early?
Gitche Gumee is an unforgiving bitch, straffin.
It’s been good knowin’ ya.

And a fine porter too.
The Armistice Day Blizzard?
145 people died on 11/11/1940 when a blizzard hit in Minnesoda.
Why the fuck would anyone want to be outside in Minnesoda in November? March or October are a stretch.
Hunting. Most of the people who died in that blizzard were hunters out on the rivers who got surprised by the storm.
And November is fine if you ain’t a pussy or something.
Axl Rose played the piano?
I am trying to think of how that works without there being moisture on the bulb and coming up short. My oven doesn’t respond that well.
I can attest to some insane temp drops occurring in a few miles of driving. Cross over the ridge on hwy 46 between Paso Robles to Cambria, CA. On some summer days, it’ll drop 30-40° in a matter of five miles.
It’s really bizarre.
Same with Julian, Ca to Borrego Springs. But that’s obviously a terrain-induced temp change. But we always got such a kick out of watching the car’s external thermometer go from 60’s in Julian to 90-something in Borrego.
Yeah, I’m just trying to think through how air warms 50 degrees in the same place in 2 minutes without there being a grass fire underneath the thermometer.
I was caught on the flanks of a typhoon once, and although I didn’t have a thermometer handy, I’m pretty sure the ‘front’ that passed thru’ carried a 20 degree change.
Not that I was concentrating on the air temperature that much at the time.
how air warms 50 degrees in the same place in 2 minutes
Its different air, brought in by a front passing through. I’ve been through “blue northers” in Texas – temp drops muy rapido as cold winds blow from the north pushing out the warmer air. Probably seen some 25 degree temp drops in 15 – 20 minutes.
Ft Irwin CA.
Summer flash flood rain.
125 – 75 almost instantaneously. Rains like living hell for 15 minutes. 45 minutes later, you’d never know it rained except for the rocks and gravel washed across the road.
Yep. I’ve been caught in Chicago a few times that way, including twice this spring – you can *feel* the front as it passes over you. Fortunately, every time the temps have merely dropped from warm to cold, rather than from cold to frigid.
Minnesota, eh? Ya!
I think you mean “Uffda” Sunshine
I don’t doubt shysters like Gore and Nye and people who depend on research grants would shift on a dime if it meant threatening their scam and livelihood without a single hint of shame.
The most infuriating thing about it is that they would never even admit that they were predicting warming earlier either. They (and the MSM) would simply say “We’ve always been at war with Eastasia” and dismiss anyone who points out the truth as a crank.

Let’s reastate that with different, but equal numbers.

All this romper talk for men is hiding the real issue. Rompers on women are terrible too.
Rompers are for people under age 5 only. No exceptions.
I contend that they are for people who wear diapers. Otherwise you have to completely undress to sit on the toilet. At least the rompers on the little-littles have the snaps on the bottom.
Maybe I could start marketing those.

Is that Keystone?
Copper – top of Rendezvous, with the Ten Mile Range in the background.
Nice. Copper is my second fav place to go, after Keystone.
Unfortunately, Keystone (and most resorts, TBH), don’t have the variety of green terrain I like. Copper has the best variety that I’ve ever seen. Beaver Creek comes close, but who can afford that?
I loved Keystone back in the day. Everybody was lighting up on the Gangala.
In reality, my very favorite place is Wolf Creek, but it’s too far for a day trip. You should try it sometime, so much less crowded and shitloads of snow (consistently the most in the state).

Having never needed a security clearance, I don’t understand the process. Wouldn’t this behavior raise some red flags for the gov’t, if not her employer?
She got her initial clearance when she became an Air Force linguist. Beyond that, I’d think that perhaps the reason they nabbed her so quickly is that they were already keeping an eye on her for just that reason. Saying crazy shit on social media is not a reason, in and of itself, to get a clearance yanked, but it would probably attract scrutiny.
Considering the languages she was proficient in, I wouldn’t put it past the Air Force to overlook a few things in getting her that clearance either.
Well, someone’s signature would be on an incriminating piece of paper somewhere. I’d like to think someone pulls on all the threads and follows this to a logical endpoint.
What would be nice is if this really is a technical and non-damaging leak that scares the fucking bejaysus out of the community and personnel start treating their clearances seriously. But I ain’t holding my breath.
Getting a TS is a long and expensive process, and the government is seriously backed up in the process.
So much time is spent on the new ones there is a significant short-coming in reviewing those who already have one.
If local command/security doesn’t watch then there’s little chance of problems getting caught before they get out of hand.
She got her initial clearance when she became an Air Force linguist.
Cunning!
Word on the street is that she can do some magic with that tongue.
My wife’s fat white dyke of a boss told me during some chit chat that “White people just need to die” to make the country a more free place. Never change, left.
She needs to lead by example.
ask her if you can have her stuff when she offs herself
I guess there’s a wider range than “Feed me” and “I would kill you if I were a little bigger”.

It took my company firewall .2 seconds to block that.
Dern. Supposed to be SFW (if borderline). Bookmark it and check it out at home when you’re free to head to your bunk.
And a bonus, because this was too good not to include.

The only pics I see as I scroll are of cat butts and lumpy headed alt right chicks. Think we need to give Q the power.
The power to change the world with my righteous tears and sincere feelz?

No Manly Monday and no Antiques Roadshow. Yesterday sucked.
Kristen, Jesse and Rhywun haz sadz.
Antiques road show is the original pawn stars.
Only classy. With the Keno bros and that hipster dude in the funny suits and the gun guy who reminds me of Foghorn Leghorn and the grown-up Urkel doll guy and the slickster Armenian jewelry guy.
Y’all need to get hold of some of the original British shows. The bizarre personalities in their versions make the American version look very staid and boring.
Same thing with “Whose Line is it Anyway”.
I DVR the British shows because my DVR can’t differentiate between the two versions. I think it’s rather boring. One time I saw a couple get an appraisal for £500k and they just said “Oh, that’s quite nice.” Fuck off with your stuff upper lip! Plus, my local PBS keeps showing the same dozen or so episodes over and over again, despite the fact the show has been on the air for almost 40 years.
Not enough explosions?
More like too much English circumspection. If someone told me I was sitting on a $600k painting, I would defecate in my pants, not say “Oh, well, that’s quite lovely”.
I bet you don’t even cut the crusts off your cucumber sandwiches for high tea, do you?
I like my tea Devon-style.

That guy has a Ph.D. from Chicago Dept. of Econ. That used to mean something.
Lets get this straight. Facebook is not a linchpin of the economy. If FB unplugged (we plead you Lord for such a day) the economy would not break down into shatters. We may see marked improvement with employee productivity actually.
Also, run this guy out of town for using linchpin.

I know, so racist, right?
somebody tweet him that Baltimore schools link showing 5 or 6 city schools with zero students proficient in math and english.
Black Sabbath Paranoid and Rush 2112 were the first cassette tapes I ever bought. I love you Sloopy.
Pyromania. Didn’t hold up to the test of time.
Hysteria did though. I still run that regularly.
I love the 2112 story from their documentary. If unfamiliar, the label was going to drop them, their management begged to get one more album, promised radio friendly tracks. They said, “Screw it, lets go down doing what we love.” The label gave it no advertising and it sold entirely by work of mouth and eventually went platinum. After that, Rush had the power to do whatever they wanted.
Yes! Was that “Behind the Music” or something similar? I loved it.
You want short pop-songs? Fuck-you, here’s an album with a single 20-minute song as side 1.
Beyond the Lighted Stage.
I wanted them to play 2112 in its entirety for their HOF induction as a big FU to Jann Wenner.
They did play the prelude.
90125.
I’m a huge Yes fan, and unfortunately, 90125 just never did it for me. Most disappointing.
It was their last truly excellent album, IMO. Sure it is missing Steve Howe, but I thought Rabin did a fine job. Different direction obviously.
Everything after that was disappointing. Good songs here and there, but overall nothing to compare with 1970s era Yes.
Relayer is, of course, their best album.
You’re not an Owner of a Lonely Heart?
No, but he’s seen all good people.
It was nice to see them get into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, if bittersweet, at last.
They should have been there years ago, with Chris Squire playing, but Geddy Lee was a credible stand-in.
Listened to 2112 Last night, holds up well
Fun with statistics!
15% of the hourly workers in Minnesoda make less than the $9.50/hr minimum (tip credit or small company)
46% of min wage workers are older than 24
I’m not a great math mind, but that seems like a big nothingburger. Sounds like a lot of teenagers make minimum wage.
Nice. Copper is my second fav place to go, after Keystone.
A-basin or GTFO.
Crested Butte!
15% of the hourly workers in Minnesoda make less than the $9.50/hr minimum
What do we imagine the marginal return on those workers to be?
How many of them are tipped (and not reporting actual tips, but the minimum)?
Its a dark day for many of our college baseball faithful here at Glibs.
Why Kentucky has mad it to their first super regional ever. And Louisville is still in it. And, one of them is guaranteed to make the CWS.
RATZ!
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2017/06/05/roosevelt-island-school-rats/
They have schools on retard-island?
I had to explain to everyone at work what I was laughing about.
Uh-oh, looks like we have some escapees from the milking room.
Also, everyone tuck your pants into your socks.
But Department of Education officials said it is an island-wide issue that did not originate on school property.
BULLSHIT. Everybody knows rats spontaneously generate from rags and debris left in a corner.
Closer and closer, they inch forward until they reach arousal threshold. Then they pounce and kill.
Slowly I turned. Inch by inch…
Andrew McCarthy to Theresa May: No, “Islamist extremism” is not the problem. Islamism is extreme by its very nature.
Islamism seems comparable to Communism: antithetical to Western pluralism, a death knell for freedom and prosperity, and ever striving toward an apocalyptic confrontation with liberal democracies.
And the left is forcing everyone to bend over backwards to accommodate them in all their numbers, while no insignificant portion of those migrants openly state that their intention is conquest.
Market failure!
Healthcare is different from food trucks because health care is just too complicated.
Talk about missing the point. It’s too expensive precisely because it is too complicated, which in our current system is by design.
God dammit! That’s exactly why competition works!
*throws laptop across the office*
Krugnuts approves of your actions to stimulate the economy Tundra.
But maybe now that Trump is President, he doesn’t want the economy to take off because you have to buy a new laptop?
Where does she think these “thousands of intricate parts” come from? Some from contract law certainly, but I dare say that the vast majority of complicated moving parts that make healthcare provision into a costly fiasco are statutory laws and their associated regulations.
intricate? Like a butterfly on a wheel? *plays The Mission*
I was thinking more like a Rube Goldberg machine, really.
This week’s econ talk is about the history of health care in the USA and how/why we ended up using the insurance model and how/why that isn’t anything like where the market would have taken us too.
I haven’t finished it yet, but its a good one.
Bah!
If they don’t touch on FDRs wage and price controls, they’re doing it wrong.
It has only been mentioned a bit so far, a lot has to do with pre-FDR.
The AMA opposing Doctors groups and insurance at first. And using the power of licensing to eliminate doctors who wanted alternate methods.
Then getting on board and pushing the insurance model to prevent socialized medicine proposals under FDR/Truman.
They have touched on the problem with employer supplied insurance, but didnt cover the reason that took off, at least yet.
It goes a bit deeper than that, but it’s inextricably tied up with progressivism. Essentially, insurers and the AMA could both feel the breeze of nationalization blowing their way. What eventually became Medicaid was an effort to head off single-payer by creating an option nobody, neither doctors nor insurers, wanted, but they didn’t want it less than they didn’t want outright nationalization.
I’d be interested to hear more about the RUC (?), the technocratic committee within the AMA that de facto sets the pricing for virtually all mainstream medical procedures. They pass “recommendations” onto Medicare/Medicaid for pricing, those “recommendations” are followed 98% of the time, then the insurance companies look to Medicare/Medicaid to inform their own pricing and compensation, for legal reasons that I’m not entirely familiar with.
Russ had a very interesting guest on this week to discuss the history and state of health insurance regulation. Well worth an hour of your time.
This is a situation ripe for imperfect competition
Indeed it is, but in no small part because the insurance industry is a crony racket. Its a monopsony by design, with a handful of very large firms wielding uncontested market power due to, in part, state licensing regulations.
Be prepared for a serious change in music direction the rest of this week in the links.
I need to get prepped up for the Thursday night concert here in town.
NOOOOOOO!
Not country! Say it ain’t so, Sloopy!
Sloopy is actually Gordie Tapp, and we’re gonna have re-runs of Hee Haw.
Imma pickin’ and a he’s a grinnin’!
Good lord, no.
Let’s just say there’ll be changes in latitudes. And changes in attitudes.
Ah, got it.

Not effective enough. Castration or nothing.
https://heatst.com/world/is-a-vasectomy-now-the-only-way-men-can-be-truly-safe-from-financial-extortion/
There is an obvious second option.
I’m just not into guys that way, you know?
That wasn’t the one I was going for, but I guess that would be the third option (although Q came up with castration too, so now we have four).
I don’t mind chronic masturbation, but it sure seems to bother the guy I share a cubicle with.
That’s the best way of being safe from ONE FORM of financial extortion. Fortunately, modern society has plenty of other ways to fuck you over.
This is a situation ripe for imperfect competition, an economic phenomenon defined by faulty market functioning that results in poor societal distribution.
And this is why some bureaucrat in Washington should set prices and approve treatments.
Which reminds me
Neither the Affordable Care Act nor the Republicans’ American Health Care Act addresses the way specialists are corrupting our health care system. What we really need is what I’d call a Health Care Accountability Act.
This law would return primary care to the primary care physician. Every patient should have one trusted doctor who is responsible for his or her overall health. Resources must be allocated to expand those doctors’ education and training. And then we have to pay them more.
There are approximately 860,000 practicing physicians in the United States today, and too few — about a third — deliver primary care. In general, they make less than half as much money as specialists. I advocate a 10 percent to 20 percent reduction in specialist reimbursement, with that money being allocated to primary care doctors.
Let the Ministry of Plenty set wages and prices. What could possibly go wrong?
This is something the Econtalk interview addressed, too: there’s no ownership of patient healthcare, and billable hours is the chief metric of success.
I’m gonna say they are wrong about this:
And nobody might ever even know if that person gets a correct diagnosis. There’s no way–the person could die soon afterward and nobody would even know because nobody really owns that patient, so to speak.
I’m currently defending a portfolio of probably 10 cases based on blown diagnoses. Responsibility for missing the diagnosis (“owning the patient”) will most definitely be assigned, with consequences.
Fair enough, but that still seems like a horse and barn door problem. And doesn’t that speak to the arms race between tort lawyers and malpractice insurers than it does a healthy feedback mechanism between patients and doctors?
And, he manages to miss the fact that increasingly, primary care isn’t delivered by doctors, but by nurse practitioners.
There has been an ugly street fight going for decades as physicians try to keep nurses from horning in on their turf.
I trust my prostate and all my other bits to my nurse practitioner without any qualms. I wouldn’t let my actual PCP within yards of any of them.
Anything that upsets the AMA is OK by me. The fact that my NP looks like Kate Upton and has proven ability in diagnosing medical conditions above and beyond my PCP is icing on the cake.
Let the denunciations about euphemisms commence!
When my father has had his run ins with major medical issues and had to be hospitalized, it became very clear to me that the nurses actually ran the hospital. Sort of like the military, the officers run around all puffed up with their importance (and a few of them are very good), but the real way to get shit done is to talk to the NCO’s.
My mother – a committed feminist – was the worst person in the world about condescending to the nurses. I was always apologizing for her (and a lot of her antics were caused by her freaking out about Dad) and trying to convince her that the nurses were the people we needed to be sucking up to.
BTW it was a nurse who figured out that my father had Guillain-Barre disease, not the doc. She had seen one case before and asked if that could be it.
A nurse’s primary job is to keep the doctor from killing you.
It was my NP that (I’d argue *conclusively*) refuted the diagnosis that a medical problem I had about 8 years ago was not a cardiac condition.
This was borne out when six months later, I had 2 trips to the ER where they diagnosed an Elder Gods Grade misbehaving gall bladder.

From my inbox this morning: https://www.va.gov/opa/pressrel/pressrelease.cfm?id=2914
So yesterday I had to pull data for a national consult audit. I had to open CPRS, verify PHI, find the note, then find the consult, then go to VistAWeb and find the consult there. Once I had it in VistAWeb I had to print it to OneNote where it was saved as a docx, then take a screenshot of CPRS to verify documentation was linked back to the initial consult. Then I went to the audit portal, verified PHI, searched the note for documentation accuracy, uploaded my findings, uploaded the docx. Repeat and additional 119 times.
The sad part is, I almost would rather do all that because no matter what, they are going to find a way screw this up.

Of course police are going to be involved.

The choice isn’t between the AHCA and the status quo when the status quo is unsustainable.
Question: If your county has no options, therefore leaving you with no coverage, do you still have to pay the penaltax?
Yes.
And then we expect you to die, Q. You and that pretty boy 007.
Why can’t I get the girl once in a while?
You have unreasonable expectations, given your Civil Service grade.
If i remember correctly, You’re an A-5 (NATO equivalent of OF-5) so it’s your turn in the barrel next Tuesday.
1. If your reaction to people being murdered is outrage at the one person who happens to pre-judge the murderers, something is wrong.
2. Even responses to that tweet that display outrage about the outraged people in the video, are from people who claim they would still prefer to cower in silence while waiting for the police to do their job.
I guess we’ve finally done away with that pesky self-preservation instinct.
