Well I sure was wrong about Oregon State cruising to a CWS title. Instead we’re all going to get treated to an all-SEC affair. And that means my reporting on it has come to a conclusion. Well, I’ll probably mention something on it, but that conference being a literal lock to win it takes a little shine off the remaining best of three series for me and for most of America. Which means we can focus on the professionals…and the Astros taking 2 of 3 from the second place Mariners over the weekend. But the Dodgers have come to within 1 game of the Astros for best record in the majors after reeling 10 games in a row off. Of course, there are like 6 whole teams in the NL with a winning record, but I will still give credit where its due. Oh yeah, and Tim Tebow is moving up to high-A ball in the Mets organization. They better start prepping him, because the way they’re playing, he might be the only person able to draw a crowd in New York by the end of the regular season.
And in other sports news, it looks like ESPN is trying to make a story out of a man saying what should be considered an obvious truth to anyone with a pair of brain cells to bump into each other. Seriously, anybody that thinks an elite woman could compete with elite men in this sport is out of their goddamn mind. Plus Jordan Spieth did everything he could to piss a tournament away with his putter yesterday. So he did what only seemed obvious: he won it in a playoff without taking the flatstick out of his bag.
Well that’s your weekend sports update. Hope it whetted your appetite for…the links!
Just in case any of you wanted to know the story behind the next huge war…that we can hopefully sit out. But I doubt we can. Hat tip: One True Athena.
When President Trump supporters show up to her town hall James Brown impersonator Congresswoman Maxine Waters says “Get back! Huh. This is the big payback.”
You just don’t understand their creativity, man. Or whatever it is that’s causing Hollywood celebrities to wax poetically about assassination.
This guy deserves a round of applause. Somebody owes him a life debt. Or a multiple broken bones debt. Either way, he done good.
Trump manages to cause massive butthurt even when he doesn’t do something. Of course, the “tradition” is all of 20 out of 240 years old. But don’t let that stop the left from shitting their pants over it. Several Muslim men expressed anger. Most Muslim women were not available for comment.
After months of reporting just about anything on Russia that crosses its plate, CNN decides to (perhaps) become a legitimate news outlet again. Or, as likely, they decide they want to make sure the stories fit their narrative before publishing them.
That’s it. Go have a great day!
Wait, fuck… what? Where am I?
Purgatory?
Feels like it… no, wait, that’s just the stomach bug I caught.
OT: I’m buying your first book this week. Let’s hope your writing style is more open to exotic flavors than your palette. 😉
I hope you enjoy it. Either way, let me know what you think.
I just bought Gruefield 18. I look forward to reading them.
Enjoyment is mandatory. Also all previous references to ‘happiness’ never happened.

At least I know the bass line . (BTW, good song)
You can play the bass rips or you can just hum it?
I was going to say something hateful. because you deserve it, but whatevs.
The real tough song on the album is Phantom of the Opera. It took me and my guitarist about 3 months to get right. This one was cake in comparison.
I asked because I’m about a year into learning and needed to know who to ask a tip or two from. That is, After I get poly-wally-doddle down pat
Whatcha need to know? Been playing for 30 years or so.
Why do you want to learn racist songs?
The last chorus anyway.
He might want a job on the next Hamilton, maybe?
Nothing in particular at the moment. Unless u have some good recommendations on any popular songs that are pretty easy with just basic chords, with maybe a bar chord for good measure. I have worked on Lola, Who stop the rain, smells like teen spirit, 4th of July, horse with no name, thunderstruck (getting there on it), let it ride, in the pubes, Folsom prison blues, enter sandman. I am leaving a couple out.
In he pines not pubes
BTW, Archie: ask tips from everyone. Some will work, some won’t – everyone’s different in how they play.
One thing I’d suggest – take a file (nail file or something specifically designed to be small) to the nut of your guitar. Taking down the action by 1/16″ or 1/8″ will help dramatically, unless you started with a Les Paul or Stratocaster. Lowering the action of your guitar will make you instantly a better guitarist/ bassist.
I’ve heard that, kinda wish I would have done that early on but now my fingers seem strong enough to where hitting chords isn’t a problem. If I file anything off it would be some skin and fat around my fingertips that cause me a little trouble on a few chords. I’m starting out on a Washburn Delta king. Nothing real fancy but I would be hesitant to go grinding shit off of it
Okay, not much more to say. >> AC/DC, Motorhead, ZZ Top all have pretty straightforward song structure. ZZ Top, in particular, has touches that go beyond the obvious. If you like them, the Ramones have a (usually) obvious song structure (note – I like the band, not dogging them)
Rainbow/Deep Purple are good bands to look into, because guitarist Ritchie Blackmore often creates a simple guitar riff which becomes a complex song (think about Smoke on the Water) – a simple riff leading to a fairly complex song. (I want to slap people who think the bass line is a copy of the guitar line – if you can’t be bothered to listen beyond the first 4 verses, you need a slap). Rainbow’s songs are good because you can start out learning the basic riffs (Burn is a good example) and ‘work your way up’ to learning the full song. I’d also say UFO is a good band to listen to, but I think that’s just because I like UFO.
Dude, not talking about you fingers. The guitar nut – the thing that separates the guitar head from the neck – pls see link above. It should be as low as possible, without creating buzz. NOTE: if you do this, be careful and slow. Buzz cannot be removed once gained. However, understand that replacement nuts cost about $5, so if you fuck up… meh.
Sorry, dude, misread your comment.
Yeah, a Washburn is a decent axe, but I’d still say you should still try to take a bit off – the replacement cost is next to nothing, and you can instantly become a much better guitarist.
Thanks BP. You talked me into it. It won’t screw up my sound when I Hook up to amp will it (I rarely do)?
Arch: – it never did with me. If you fuck it up, it’ll cause a buzz, especially on the the higher frets, either amplified or not. If you start hearing a buzz, STOP. the guitar can still be useful as a rhythm guitar, or you can get a replacement nut for $5 and restart the process.
Again, though – the replacement nut costs like $5, and if a total incompetent workman such as I can replace one, anyone can. Try again. Believe me, the gains are worth the (potential) pain. That said, go slow. If you get to a point where you think you’re playing insanely better than before, STOP shaving and just enjoy your shred.
Also, Poly-Wanna-Doodle is way too complex for me, man. Good on you for trying to figure it out, you cis-gendered racist homophobe scumbag.
You think it’s worth taking the time to learn to read sheet music and/or guitar tabs? At tHis pointbive just been pulling up vids on YouTube (guy named Marty on Guitarjamz) which has been helpful but at some point gonna get into Bluegrass which is probably harder to find videos for.
Tabs are easy (or should be), so go ahead. I’d also learn the most popular keys (major & minor) – and more if you find it helps. For me, learning some basic music theory made it MUCH easier to learn songs, b/c I usually knew where they were going and why they went there. Yuh Milage Might Vawy.
Sheet music – for guitar? Not so much, unless you have dreams of moving into the classical scene. And even then, there are other ways of breaking in, although they’re tough, too.
Archie =
Contra BP, i recommend against starting adult guitar/bass players lowering the action any more than absolutely necessary to play without pain
low action a great thing for younger people or girls, for whom hand strength is a real weakness, and for whom finger-pain can be a barrier to playing… but for adults, being forced to manhandle the thing isn’t as much of a problem and just encourages you to ‘commit’ when you play.
e.g. for jazz players, i encourage people to start on a classical/nylon-string acoustic, which has a very wide neck and high action; it forces players to arch their hand properly thumb placed on the middle-back of the neck, with most of their hand arched up and over the front; compared to electrics, where people will ‘fist’ the neck and have their thumb riding on top; the first position is what forces people to use their fingers much more precisely, ‘pinching’ rather than a ‘grabbing’. you end up using the tips and pads of your fingers more accurately when fretting, rather than just smashing the whole front of your finger on a string.
that sort of thing is really more about teaching students single-string techniques and being able to play lines, etc. but in my opinion, even if you’re mostly interested in playing barre chords and rock tunes, it helps create better fundamentals.
re: Music to ‘train’ with; in my opinion stones + zeppelin are probably the single best source of guitar stuff for a beginner, because of the plethora of tunes with mixes of riffs/chords/double stops, etc. you end up picking up lots of small techniques in the process
You think it’s worth taking the time to learn to read sheet music and/or guitar tabs?Yes to tabs, no to sheet music*
*tho you should be able to look at sheet music and be able to read the time-signature, the key, and count the bars for each section before ‘repeats’ so you can pick up a fake-book or any other book of chord charts and read it well enough to see how the tune goes without even touching an instrument.
OTOH, I always recommend people make the physical part of playing as easy as possible when starting out. Low action, low tension strings – IOW, don’t start on a typical steel-string acoustic – because the muscles in the hands aren’t used to those movements.
While Gilmore is a dick (and you are a dick, you CC Rider motherfucker!), he has a point. Nastier action will train your hands better, especially for rhythm. I’d say it depends on 2 things: how deep is your conviction, an whatja wanna do? When I was 14, I wanted to play bass, and I’d play a shit bass over an offer of candy and weed. (Well, candy, anyhow) High action wasn’t a deterrent. If you want to be a soloist, however, I’d totally disagree with Gilly. If you want to learn to solo – whatever help you might get from fighting high action early on – you’ll have to learn to shred, and whatever help high action will give would be fucked up by the negative reinforcement of being unable to play cool riffs.
NOTE: I am a BASSIST, and not a guitar soloist. If Gilmore has better credentials, please take those into account.
Even if he is a dick.
Also – I’ve posted this before, but it bears repeating, b/c it’s a great rock song w/ a great solo: Rock Bottom.
And I posted the same link into the same post twice. Damn you, Alcohol!
ahem
people who start off on low-action electrics, imo, learn slower and develop bad habits that end up fucking them in the long run. when its “easy” to fret a note without buzz, you don’t really pay much attention to where on the fingerboard you’re fretting or how much emphasis you put on it. next thing you know, you pick up someone else’s guitar and you sound like an idiot because you can only play on thin-necks with XL gauge strings. you also develop almost no feel for playing-dynamics; the differences between ‘open and ringing’ vs. ‘partly muted’ are far less distinct, etc.
i’ve taught kids and adults both…. and with kids i think it is far more important to ‘stage’ them so they aren’t overly intimidated or have to deal with too-much hand pain. I myself started on a samson mini-electric. but when teaching adults, i think its more important for them to quickly see the differences between good/weak technique, and ‘medium-gauge string, medium-action acoustics’ are usually a good platform.
**i also agree with BP that its good to get lots of advice! even sometimes conflicting. everyone’s experiences are different and people can often incidentally share details that help beginners more than they ever could imagine. I got hundreds of little tips from different kinds of people over the years, and even the bad-advice at least made me think and engage with the instrument more. in the end, “everyone teaches themselves” and the best way to teach yourself is to be engaged and enjoy playing.
Gilmore’s probably right about the Stones & Zeppelin. For the most part, they have relatively simple song (blues) structures; for another, everyone learns them (or did), so if you decide to jam with other people, it’s common currency. At least, it used to be, it’s been a while for me…
But as I mentioned (numerous times) in an as yet unpublished comment, he’s a dick. So, yuh know, even if he’s right, you have to watch out.
Hey there, Archie. I’ve been playing for about 30 years too. Sometimes I’m late to the links because of work though. I agree that AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and the Stones are great bands for learning chords and riffs, especially AC/DC. Also, watch out for weird tunings with Led Zeppelin and the Stones, although if you try them out, they’re pretty fun. Ramones are mostly barre chords and power chords, which I think are important to learn too, but beginners should probably have a good grasp of open chords first. I did it the opposite way, like a lot of kids who start out in punk bands, but I wish I hadn’t.
If you’re interested in playing lead eventually, I have all kinds of opinions on that stuff too. 🙂
Tough one there, Gengis Khan is pretty fast
A guy I knew once said the first Maiden album almost sounded punk (and punk-fast). I know most would disagree, but I thought he had a point. Running Free is the retarded fun (easy) song to play from that album.
Hitlerland? At least the trains run on time.

Am I doing this right?

There was no traffic coming in this morning. It was so refreshing.
New Jersey took care of the usual summer lull in traffic by shutting down all the trains to New York.
When it comes to traffic there are two seasons in New Jersey – Winter and Construction. Now they have added more cars to Construction season.

Yeah, but then the trampoline-like rebound would have busted her up when she came down the second time.
A clumsy liberal’s guide to saying the right thing
Please avoid asking “So how’s your journey been so far?” or “Are you near the end?” as if it were a day-trip to Girvan.
Instead, show interest and don’t interrupt. Do not say: “One of my friends is on a similar journey” because you’ll probably be lying.
I can do all of that except the “show interest” part.
Man, it’s a good thing that guy’s not into Too Short, Eazy E or almost any of the rappers out of LA in the 80s and 90s.
Because then he’d have to whip out his grievance heiratchy chart any time he wants to discuss music with his daughter.
Best and most woke music to play for the modern proggie feminist is 2 Live Crew..
I really don’t understand this lemming like drive for self-castration.
Nobody can explain it to you. It would be mansplaining.
Sounds more like eunuch-splaining
A while back my wife and I went to Wal-Mart. As we were going in the store I noticed an old man heading in from the parking lot. Pajama pants, unshaven, unruly hair and a fuck-all look on his face.
My wife took one look at him and said “It must be very liberating not to give a fuck what anyone thinks.”
Me – “When you get to that age you have figured out what that’s worth.”
One of the most challenging dilemmas for the aspiring-but-not-quite-there-yet-liberal male is reconciling a love of AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Ted Nugent with a desire to be empathetic and sensitive to feminism.
I watched “The Red Pill” last night. Have an aspiring to be liberal ex-rocker watch that movie and decide if they want their daughter listening to AC/DC, Ted Nugent or that thing that calls herself, “Big Red”. God what an annoying cunt. I have a hard time believing she actually thinks she is winning people over to her point of view. She just likes to be loud and tell people to shut the fuck up. Anybody who wants their daughter to grow up like that thing has issues.
Big Red was like the love-child of Kathy Griffin and Cytotoxic.
So, he’s going to his daughter for affirmation and legitimacy.
I don’t have any children. But, I really don’t think that’s how it’s supposed to work.
You are correct.
My daughter listens to AC/DC with me all the time. Thunderstruck and Problem Child are two of her favorite songs by anyone.
My daughter used to fall asleep to Iron Maiden, although how that’s possible I’ll never know. And I’m talking about Aces High, as a for instance, which is like the pump up song to end all pump up songs.
I used to fall asleep to metal/rock in high school all the time. Still don’t know how I did it.
Skinny Puppy for me, a smidge of Nitzer Ebb, stuff like that. I was a weird kid.
My son became a metal head at six months. He hated baby music. And bad pop like Brittney Spears. But loved AC/DC and Van Halen. Still does. I used to sing him to sleep with Back in Black… No mean feat, that.
So Friday night I took a bunch of his friends fishing out on the reef. On the way back one of the kids put on bad pop. So another kid says “listen to this” and put on Thunderstruck
One of the kids actually said “nobody likes country music”.
I worry for our nation. But half the boys were into metal. So we might be ok. We’ll check back when puberty hits.
“Back in black
Please hit the sack
I’ts been too long, I just want to sack.”
Fuck.. Want you to sack.
Fuck…slack
Speaking of which, I should prolly go to bed about now.
Or shoot myself.
My daughter’s first sounds were shrieks and growls, no shit. We called her “Monster Baby” for a long time because she’d make what we called the pterodactly sound–kind of a hoarse, high-pitched shriek–and then giggle. My wife thinks the growl thing is her doing her best impression of what I sound like when I talk, but I think it’s because I listen to a lot of death metal.
I try to counteract the perfidious influences of my wife’s pop tastes, but we both have similar tastes when it comes to country music so I think we’ll be okay there. Funny you mention that about country, because growing up in Maryland I hated country. I couldn’t stand country until I heard Johnny Cash. Then that got me into old blues for awhile, and then I started listening to people like George Strait, Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, and now I’m into the new guys doing stuff like Sturgill Simpson and Chris Stapleton.
It took me a while, but eventually I realized that I’ve always hated the Nashville sound, which seems to have culminated in bro country.
I would also recommend John Moreland for his strong lyrics (and oh so sad songs) and also Ryan Bingham, especially the album Mescalito.
My daughter has been into all things punk since about that age, from the Clash and Ramones to Op Ivy to NOFX. She’s grown since then, she’s 13 months now, and gotten into post-punk as well, like DEVO and Talking Heads. Since we’re also both into metal, I’ve hooked with my wife that our daughter will have to get into modern radio country or lite rock it sure wants to rebel and piss us off with her music.
Don’t listen to ‘Stay with me’ or ‘Let’s spend the night together’ or ‘Sugar, Sugar’ and…..other songs with sexual overtones if not downright vulgar lyrics.
Me? I’ll keep listening.
By god, he better not be listening to Winger’s ‘Seventeen’ in that case.
Cherry Pie or gtfo
Or Vai’s “I would love to”. Or, just about everything on Aerosmith’s “Pump” (or Permanent Vacation, for that matter).
“Or, just about everything on Aerosmith…”
There yuh go, mate!
Right you are, guv.
Might want to add a lot of Dave Lee Roth’s post-Halen career material in the list too, such as it is. TLSD figured out what “A Hot Dog and a Shake” meant a few weeks ago.
*sigh*
By the way, a lot of that music – including all those whatever they’re called rap, and house and dance and all that – are written by people who are mostly….progressive.
I see it was written by a guy named Kevin.
I swear these cucks….
Wait, liking AC/DC makes me a misogynist?
I thought they were just stupid. Totally harmless, destined to eventually eat some paste and self euthanize. Nope, these people went too far.
This movement seems to be about making sure you never have a clue what is woke and what isn’t on your own, so they can make sure they control every decision you make.
“reconciling a love of AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Ted Nugent with a desire to be empathetic and sensitive to feminism”
I understand the AC/DC and Ted Nugent reasoning, although it’s retarded, because they actually sang about women. How exactly does Black Sabbath fit in? I’m seriously racking my brain trying to think of a Black Sabbath tune, Ozzy or Dio era, that would be considered misogynist by anyone.
I found this one late.
In what sane world where justice is the goal is the answer to this question not obvious?
Obviously that “sane world” doesn’t include Los Angeles County. Or anywhere a cop union exists.
Next time, post a picture of a homeless guy holding your place in line.
A woke woman loses her shit when she sees the General Lee.
I’m less perturbed by the woman losing it than by the venue appologizing to her and not saying “grow up.”
Well, what the hell do you think happens when fathers let their daughters determine the legitimacy of their play list. They grow up to be this woman.
The fathers or the daughters? Both?
I went to a southern university in the late 1980’s-early 1990’s. (FSU) A friend once told me he saw a few vehicles with the confederate government flag, which was never bitched at. He made the good point that it was actually far more racist than the battle flag.
I once saw a “I ride with Forrest” bumpersticker.
It didn’t know anyone in the Klan was smart enough to be that subtle.
Anyone that clever would have a good response as to what they “really meant” if challenged.
Most people have no idea that the Stars and Bars is not the Confederate battle flag.
Dude, most people don’t know there is another confederate flag other than the battle flag. You could tell 95% of the pop that the Stars & Bars is the provincial flag of Alberta, and they’ll believe you, assuming they haven’t caught you in total bullshit in the past.
Hell, there’s a school up in suburban Cleveland that uses the battle flag: South High. A couple of years after I graduated, there were rumblings about changing it, and from what I heard, it was the black students who were more in favor of keeping the flag and the rebel mascot then the white students.
Wait… Ohio? Ohio? Who the fuck’s side were they on?
I believe the mascot came into being because their rival school is North High, so you have North and South. You can generally spot visitors to the town when they do a double take at a black teenager driving a car with the Confederate flag (which I guess is now recolored) on it.
The scandalized festival-goer, Ybia Anderson, completely lost her mind at the sight of the 1969 Dodge Charger famous for its Confederate flag-adorned roof and lack of doors.
Lack of doors? Pretty sure the doors were welded on. Whoever wrote this needs to get Duke boy woke.
Ybia would be all kinds of scandalized if she decided to show up and any outdoor country music event in the south. Guess what Ybia? There are lots and lots of people who fly the rebel flag.
When I was a kid, the rebel flag symbolized……. Being a rebel. As in generalized anti-authoritarian sentiment with a bit of regional pride mixed in. It definitely didn’t mean “white power” or anything like it, despite the klan’s affinity for the symbol.
Too bad. It is a cool design and I liked the message of self reliance. That ship has sailed.
Now its all Pepe the Frog and other Kek.
Very similar to the shrieking dolt who sobbed incoherently at the sight of a rebel flag rug at that store in Portland. Not only do these people carry on like toddlers, they film it all because they’re supremely proud of acting like toddlers.
A society that glorifies victim-hood is going to produce a lot of fake victims…
Flipping out is now a life achievement.
Well c’mon, she’s got to feel like she’s accomplished SOMETHING.
Virtue signalling for the win?
I can only imagine how she would have reacted if she saw a whole car carrier of them, waiting to go through the car wash. Something that I saw back in the 80s during my family trip to LA.
*I also stood in William Shatner’s parking spot and saw the bar interior for TJ Hooker. Also the actor playing Boss Hogg. /Burbank studio tour
Sorrell Booke, who was fluent in several languages, attended Yale as an undergrad and Columbia as a grad, and was an Army intelligence officer in the Korean War.
say what now?
Sorrell Booke, the actor who played Boss Hogg.
ah – makes sense now. I got like 4 hours of sleep last night so I’m running on stress.
No problem. It just always amused me (as a kid who watched the living shit out of the Dukes of Hazzard when it was on) that porcine redneck Boss Hogg was played by an actor of such a background.
I feel such regret for cheering when Bo and Luke would run down runaway slaves with extreme prejudice.
and filmed her freakout, and then uploaded the whole thing on Facebook.
So she legitimately upset and not just desperately seeking attention like a child. Got it.

Can Feminist Scholarship Stop Sexism?
I’ll take “things that never happened” for $500, Alex.
Oh I don’t know. Those Germans are pretty freaky, and the author’s name is (((Becca Rothfeld))) so there’s probably some weird Nazi stuff going on too.
Well, if she had said “the man who tried to shit on me in a subway in Berlin” it might be more believable.
Fair point.
Seriously. lol.
All that happened to her?
Imma gon’ call BULL SHIT.
She imagined it all, but that still counts to these hags.
“the undergraduate peer who told me that women don’t do philosophy, as the historical record bears out”
Facts.
“remembering the man who masturbated on me in a subway in Berlin”
Filed under shit that didn’t happen.
He use of “masturbation” is the opposite of our masturbation euphemisms.
I actually laughed when I read that. Not a “that never happened” laugh, but more of a “seems like something I would have done back in my drinking days” kind of laugh.
“Can Sexism Stop Sexism?”
Well, they tried using racism to stop racism with affirmative action, and that failed spectacularly, so I’m going to day no.
This is quite stupid. Nothing will stop sexism racism etc, in the sens that there will always be assholes. There will always be people holding all sorts of opinions. This is generally irrelevant if the majority do not.
A story like this would have gotten someone committed to a mental institution less than a half century ago.
But delusions like this don’t earn people mental health treatment anymore. They get them a byline and an audience of equally delusional jackasses that are unfortunately all-too-common on American campuses and HR departments.
And how long until the exact opposite transpires? How long until the non-insane are the ones sent to mental institutions?
We’ll all fly over the cuckoo’s nest soon enough.

Becca Rothfeld is a Ph.D. candidate in philosophy at Harvard University.
I’d have guessed New York, but Boston is no surprise.
Who are these pathetic women that envision themselves under attack every single day of their life? I took philosophy in college and never lost a moment’s sleep over the fact that all the philosophers I studied were male. In fact, until just now I never even thought about it. And why would you feel “stupid” for not knowing something you hadn’t studied yet? Maybe I’m just too lazy to be that easily offended I’ll take ignorance is bliss over being woke anyday.
Stop internalizing your misogyny, Carol.
Look, if they weren’t perpetually offended, they might have to actually produce something of value for a living.
Do Ayn Rand or Rose Wilder Lane count as female philosophers? That was just off the top of my head.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters says “Get back! Huh. This is the big payback.”
“Freedom of speech? Where y’all think you at?”
Got to be!
“The U.S foreign policy establishment’s insistence on propitiating bad people arises also from its members’ presumption that they are entitled to interfere in other countries’ lives. When Leftists – and Neoconservatives too – discuss international affairs, they talk less about what America might gain from relations with foreigners than they do about how to manage events in foreign lands: who should govern where, what parties’ or movements’ fortunes should be fostered or hindered and how.”
This is part of the deep opposition to the current administration’s foreign policy leanings. Trump campaigned on doing things that make sense for America. Maybe he can stick to that and help keep us the fuck out of other countries.
Why do I think some Dakota elder is going to end up with a kick ass deck?

Controversy should be in quotes. I would be willing to bet that 99.9% of Minnesotans give not one fuck about this.
There’s nothing new or particularly enlightened about censoring art, which is what I care about here. Although I would never have been aware of this sculpture unless it had been taken down. Reading the artist’s original statements about the piece and it’s meaning actually made me appreciate it as a piece of art.
Looks like some in Congress are starting to focus on that bogus hit-piece that launched the whole Russia-gate thing. Fusion GPS isn’t cooperating.
I almost posted it. My question is this: can they use a confidentiality agreement to avoid answering questions in a congressional hearing? They could exercise client privilege if they were a medical professional or if they were hired legal counsel. But saying “we can’t talk to you because we signed an NDA” doesn’t seem like it would hold water.
Of course, this same group of retards let Cheryl Mills claim attorney-client privilege with the Hillary email investigation while she was a government employee. So I won’t put anything stupid past them.
Ya, I am not so sure that works for political consulting firms.
It doesn’t, sloop.
I read that yesterday. It will be funny if it all unravels and ends up pointing right back to the Clinton campaign funding the fabrication of “evidence”. Not that it will matter in any way. Some of us will just get a good laugh out of it all and then it will go away.
I bet they throw Lynch under the bus to protect Obama and Clinton, and it won’t even be racist that the black woman got it, because she did so to protect the wife of the first black president and of black Jeebus.
I think the clients got exactly what they wanted.
Reminds me of most proggie special studies, but particularly the shit around AGW.
a whole tapestry of daily injustice that goes unmemorialized.
Maybe if you refrained from obsessing over every tiny slight and iniquity (real or imagined), you might find your life easier.
But feel free to dig an early grave.
Imagine how I feel when I don’t get a thank you wave from a person I let go ahead of me at a 4-way stop.
This will show the Patriarchy!
This story is like a Jezebel screed mixed with a lot of Minnesoda Nice. Read how our capitol building couldn’t have been renovated without the wimmen! Even though they weren’t even allowed in the Legislature when it was first built.
I’m seriously interested in how this story came to be. Did some editor assign it? Or was it the reporter who thought the grrrrrl power angle would be great?
Let me guess. They are the architects that designed the pink knit toilet seat covers.
I seriously doubt that’s true.
The spending or the people being nagged into it?
*snort*
Actually a big section on how the men were just letting things go to shit, but one brave woman got them to pay for the renovation.
So, she basically nagged them with the mother of all “honey do” lists.
Then celebrate the individual and stop taking credit for her achievements because you both have a vagina.
This. A single woman worked to get the renovations, but she’s abstracted and effectively ignored. “girl power!!”
That “everyone agrees” and that “it wouldn’t have happened without women”. The spending is a given.
Uh, did you even read the passage you quoted, shitlord? Everyone agrees. EVERYONE.
Consensus!!
Agreeing to disagree still counts?
That article contained pictures of 9 people and all of them were white, which completely overlooks the contributions of lots of other people in this project.
I’ll stand by awaiting the eventual declaration from feminists about all the positive things that would not exist were it not for men.
Feminists only have one item on that list, care to guess what it is?
Women?
The resources they plunder?
Guilt?
Hitler?
In her mobile phone video, Anderson expresses great outrage at the car and demands that festival organizers get rid of it immediately.
“I want the car gone!” Anderson demands in the video. “I want it out of sight!”
Hopefully her tirade was drowned out by the derisive laughter of the assembled racists.
The leftists really are a bunch of toddlers throwing tantrums with no regard for anything other than their personal wants.
SJWs, feminists, and leftists in general are all screaming toddlers who demand OF OTHERS that certain things be supplied, denied, or decried. They never – EVER seek to do the work themselves. They just demand that some goal must be met, or they will continue whining. My point would be that firehoses should be kept in optimal working order, for 1) stopping fires, and 2) the clearing out of shit.
Sorry, got a tad pissed. Also, I got angry.
In case it was unclear, I think Firehoses should be kept in good working order to stop fires, and also to clear out raging assholes who plague our municipalities, if they overstay their welcome or get violent during protests.
But I’m a dick like that.
There is a definite place for water cannons in our society.
If women athletes were socialized differently they would compete with men. But hearing as young girls that they are not as physically strong as men makes their muscles stop growing due to shame. Also they do not get enough food, which explains why they are on average shorter.
Physical differences between men and women is a social construct! Like gender.
Too many of those idiots out there believe that to be true. Especially in this day and age where you have so many movies where some waif that barely cracks 100lbs takes on and kicks the asses of hard core dudes that not only out muscle her by double plus the weight, but have actual combat training.
I think portrayals like that along with the strong social injunction on men hitting women (even in retaliation or defense) has led some women to believe that they’re invincible. They probably go through life smacking men around and never getting hit back, and they conclude that this is because they’re much better at fighting than these men.
“Moldylocks” is a perfect example of such a woman getting a hard dose of reality. Aaaah, that clip never gets old…
That bum looks like pancake batter that had been cut with a butter knife
Glastonbury goes WILD: Girls go COMPLETELY NAKED as festival temperatures soar
TW: Pasty British Bums
Wait, are you telling me that people at a big music festival were not wearing a lot of clothing?
THE KIDS THESE DAYS, AMMIRITE!!1111
Why is it that the only people going naked at these things are the ones you would rather not see naked, or crazy and thus banned from you putting it in them?
So they way to show your rejection of Trump and his crude sexist comments is to strip down naked in front of 50,000 people and prance around on a stage? I wonder if the singer for one of the bands could get away with having happy hands…
According to Trump, if you’re rich and famous, they just let you do it.
He was just making an observation.
I have shockingly low standards and I’d pass on every single one.
Searingly hot mid- to high- 80’s too.
Twin Peaks Is Overwhelmingly White, So Why do Fans of Color Keep Watching It?
I’m going to guess it’s because most people are such raging racists that they have to count skin tones before asking “is this show entertaining?”
I watch Game of Thrones although there are 0 Romanians in it, I don’t know why. Must have internalized something.
Shit, I watch Fargo even though it’s a show about Minnesotans. And I culturally educating or appropriating? I can’t tell anymore.
I guess as white guy I shouldn’t enjoy watching Luke Cage? Shit, am I even allowed to watch Luke Cage?
Somebody get me an intersectionality score card!
Marvel’s Defenders is going to be so problematic.
Obviously, Iron Fist is bad. Privileged white man.
Daredevil is differently abled, but is still a privileged white man.
Jessica Jones is a womyn, and has gone through rape trauma. But all womyn are raped, and she’s still white and cis, and therefore privileged.
Luke Cage is a PoC, but he’s hetero and cis. Problematic.
Am I allowed to say that I dug Luke Cage? I honestly liked it the best out of the Netflix series thus far, even though Daredevil was a stronger show story wise. Am I appropriating New York African American Culture by enjoying it?
Luke Cage was my favorite of the Netflix Marvel series so far. I thought Iron Fist was the weakest.
That depends: do you enjoy it because the struggle of African-Americans has been explained to you and you’re aware of these issues now, or are you simply exploiting black bodies for your amusement?
Simply exploiting black bodies for your amusement? Didn’t The Rolling Stones write a song about that?
Several
You mean bodies of color, shitlord?
The second half of Luke Cage was pretty weak, particularly after they killed off Cottonmouth, who was interesting, and replaced him with Diamondback, a pretty thin character.
True enough, but by that point the show had me hooked, and I had to finish it. It’s a lot like the CW DC series, where most of them are now bad, but I enjoyed enough of the initial run that I have to watch them now that I’m hooked.
How problematic will Black Panther be? It should be very diverse with much of the cast being African
Americans. But as whites, will we be allowed to watch it, or would that be exploiting blacks for our entertainment? (Will there be a movie theatre that has a blacks only screening of Black Panther as well?)I saw New Jack City in downtown Baltimore and Memphis Burning in a Durham ghetto theater. I don’t think anywhere I see Black Panther is going to rise to that level of white boy where he shouldn’t be.
Your blackface disguise is flawless, is what you’re saying?
I just realized I type Memphis Burning instead of Mississippi Burning.
I am a racist.
*weeps into Confederate Flag hanky*
I’ve never really watched either movie so I think I win this hand of racistcards. Memphis/Mississippi didn’t register, and even after you pointed it out I had to say “Memphis…uh..oh yeah, Tennessee” out loud to mentally unravel the disparate locations. Racist and a cisgeographicalshitlord, beat THAT.
You win this round pan fried.
I went and saw Do The Right Thing in a black theater…on a date with a chick whiter than me.
We ended up fooling around the whole time right after the ice cube scene.
Honestly at this point I would be shocked if there isn’t
Why was the left thrown into fits of rage regarding trump’s bluff? I think the reason is it kept comey honest and they were hoping he would be loose with the truth so to speak. They wanted comey to lie and lie but the thought tapes might exist meant he had to carefully go thru what he would say.
Also comey thanks to the tweet had to come up with a narrative for leaking which doesnt line up with his testimony
The nyt published details of their 1/27 loyalty dinner on may 11. Trump tweeted may 12.
Comey stated he leaked his conversations because of trumps tweet to corroborate his discussions. Problem is as shown above he was doing it anyway
Yeah, they are pissed because Comey couldn’t lie and had settle for trying to spin the innocuous truth to try to make Trump look bad.
Funny you ask this, because I actually had some proggie retard tell me that Trump intimating they had tapes was an attempt to coerce/blackmail Comey into telling lies. When I pointed out that only in proggie stupidland can the argument be made that telling someone that will be testifying under oath that you have tapes of your conversations, that you are going to end up with the poor person told about the tapes then lying. Because Comey was totes going to tell it like it is, until someone told him they had tapes of what actually happened. Then he had to lie to make his testimony conform with whatever actually happened.
The proggie douche accused me of being a saboteur, because I dared to use logic to refute stupidity.
WTF? No love for the Twinks?
Tundra and I might disagree on the correct sportsball team to watch in the winter, but we can all agree that this summer has been a very pleasant surprise.
Cleveland was 1-for-23 with runners in scoring position and left 30 runners on base during the series.
Sounds like my university days at bar closing time.
Ha!. I’d laugh at you had I done any better! Ha!
I seem to remember you replying to me back in April about how the Twins were all smoke and mirrors, or something along those lines… Just sayin’
Yup. Go ahead and mock. You ain’t even got a slice on the grief that my youngest son (and a true believer) is giving me every day they stay relevant.
I still think they are doing it with smoke and mirrors, but it is fun to actually care about them in late June. Been a while since they haven’t already been mathematically eliminated by the 4th of July.
Yeah, for too long this time of year Twins conversations are usually along the lines of “who are they going to unload before the trade deadline?”
According to Pythagorean Expectation, their expected W/L is 33-40 to this point. So yeah, lots of smoke and mirrors there.
Santana may save my fantasy team
Trade him now. Seriously.
So my brother and I started an LLC this weekend so we can begin building a brand and marketing his art (he’s extremely talented). We had to file with 2 government offices, apply for 4 types of tax permits, get 7 licenses, get our EIN and our certificate of whateverthefuck — all of which cost us $530 and will take 30 – 60 days. It would’ve been even worse if we were trying to hire employees!
Fuck the government, fuck states, fuck local tyrants. And they ask me how government could possibly be impeding business and job creation. FUCK. OFF.
What type of art?
It’s got a very comic-book look to it (we will be making and selling an actual comic book at some point). Full-color, hand drawn. I’ll be sure to link it all here once the website it up.
I’ve been debating trying to find an artist to draw up a promotional comic book one-shot to tie in to my books. It really comes down to price. (As in I’d be looking to use this as an advert in addition to telling a self-contained story).
We would certainly be interested. All projects outside of what we’re doing have to get the okay by my brother, though, since he’s the artist and has to want to do the project.
When would you need the art by?
As it’s a hypothetical project, I don’t have a defined date. Is there a less public channel to discuss this?
Okay, there will be ways to discuss this privately soon, let me get everything up and running and then we can discuss by email or phone. I’ll reach out in a few weeks once I have those items setup.
all right.
Um, I’m gonna need you to fill out the Fuck Off form in triplicate.
Afterwards, it is subject to and requires approval by the following agencies (list may be amended at any time without notice): …
Mandatory pop-quiz like drug tests to follow?
I feel like I should mention that all of this is to sell posters, comic books, t-shirts, etc. online. That’s it. 7. god. damn. permits.
licenses*
Government needs its cut to make sure your brother isn’t abusing peoplez..
7 licenses? For what?
*wonders what laws I have been breaking*
(I haven’t sold anything online yet)
Well, I told my attorney that we’re doing retail online in the state of VA, and he’s sending me a bunch of forms for licenses & permits to fill out. Sooooo… I’ll let you know when I know. In 30 days. I know I need a DBA permit and a business license, plus my local county also requires another license to have the personal property (inventory) stored at my house. I’m not sure what other ones will be coming up, but I’ll be getting the forms in the mail soon.
For fun, imagine if you were going to do something seriously regulated, like manufacture alcohol.
I am. I was. While I was going through the process I was asking myself “what if I was selling literally anything other than paper and cloth with images on them?”
I posted this the other night, but it was late and I think it’s relevant here.
MMW=(HE+NR×T)-G
MMW=man’s material wealth
HE=Human effort
NR=natural resources
T=tools
G=government
the higher the value of G, the lower the value of MMW.
It was my understanding that there would be no math…
Well, except for multiplication. Know what I mean? Nudge, nudge.
Rabbit style?
Is this going to be on the final?
Seems like we should multiply G by WC like so WC(G).
WC=?
Wood Chipper
It’s an inverse function
I approve
WMW = MMW + credit card limit
I keed.
Luxury
SF’d the link!
meh, it was the 4 yorkshiremen sketch.

I was just suggesting you got off easy; some small businesses i work with have tens of thousands in compliance/regulatory expenses annually; not just one-off filing/registration fees.
At least you weren’t trying to sell whisky.
Seems a little odd – esp. if you take paypal. They deal with a lot of the tax paperwork at the end of the year if you hit a certain amount. Nothing needed if you don’t cross something like $20k a year…maybe less on a monthly basis.
And they ask me how government could possibly be impeding business and job creation.
“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help.”
McEnroe is correct.
But I also believe she would destroy Stephon Curry in ping pong. Worse than even the commercial makes out.
Of course McEnroe is right. Two words: Second serve.
She and her sister were already beaten by Karsten Braasch when he was #203 in the world. Handily, at that, despite the fact that he didn’t train for the match and didn’t take it seriously at all.
And didn’t even warm up for the match, while allegedly being hung over at the time.
Hung over? Hell, he was drinking during the match
McEnroe is a great announcer. He is one of the few that are willing to call out players when they are tanking.
Not surprising at all that he is not going along with the silly push to try to claim that Serena is so good she could play with the men. What is sad is that this is going to get him in all sorts of trouble. Even though he has repeatedly gushed about how good she is. Won’t matter to the snow flakes. Telling the truth about the difference between men and women when it comes to physical ability will cook him.
I expect that the snow flakes will use such scientific displays as Firefly, the Fifth Element and other documentaries that show how one small woman can single handedly beat the shit out of hundreds of men.
“how one small woman can single handedly beat the shit out of hundreds of men”
Actually one small women can, but not with her hands and feet.
Well, see here, Your Holiness, it hurts to get punched in the face. Therefore, when you see a woman punching a man in the face and he goes down, that’s realistic. The force of the punch, the size of the fist, and the recipient’s ability to withstand physical damage are all irrelevant. If Summer Glau punched you in the face, it would hurt just as much as if JJ Watt punched you.
And also when a man punches a woman in the face, physics don’t apply then, either. Because we’ve all seen how a 115-pound woman can trade shots with a 200-pound man. And win.
Equal opportunity.
In fairness, Lilu is not supposed to be a woman.
One small woman Can beat the shit out of hundreds of men.
That is if the small woman has extensive training and at the peak of physical fitness whle the hundreds of men are couch potatos who don’t even watch sports forget participate in them.
I mean skill, training, mindset, and physical fitness do matter quite a bit, the problem comes in when you take a woman and put her up against guys who are even moderately fit and have at least a basic familiarity with the sport in question.
You could go down to any inner city YMCA in the country on a Tuesday night and grab 5 guys playing pickup basketball and those 5 guys would handily defeat a WNBA All Star team
Also, you know who else thinks Johnny Mac is correct? Serena Williams:
I would love to see her play a low ranked Men’s player (#600 – 700), because that could be a compelling matchup.
I’m confused. Does this make Serena a shitlord?
I’ve always liked the Williams sisters. They seemed like class acts for the most part. Their parents on the other hand….
Richard Williams was the prototype for LaVar Ball.
I really dislike Serena. She’s ungracious when she loses. She berates officials to the point f threatening physical violence and she’s generally an asshole to her opponents.
Venus is the exact opposite and has turned into a joy to watch even when she loses as she carries herself with the utmost class at all times when on a court or in an interview room. She wasn’t always that way, but she is now one of the finest sportswomen in the world.
Good for her.
Someone has to stand up to trannies destroying women’s sports. The plantation is the only thing keeping more women from speaking out like this.
In case this hasn’t been mentioned, when you post a hot girl as a link, which can’t be downloaded orGoogle image searched, you need to post it in the links as well please. That’s proper posting etiquette.
Who, me?
It’s a general request
You shitlord! I bet that is really a General Lee request with all sorts of crypto-confederate flags all over it. You know that Sloopy is another shitlord so he will get it without you having to overtly signal your love of slavery and lynching.
“without you having to overtly signal your love of slavery and lynching.”
But overtly signaling my love of slavery and lynching is my fav.
I know. And all of us poor bastards that you forced to look at your collection of KKK trading cards know it.
Fuck, I think I will puke if I hear you brag one more time about owning both a Strom Thurmond and a Robert Byrd rookie card.
I just picked up a Bull Conner in mint condition.
Illinois debt is about to be rated Junk
It’s all the Republican’s fault I think.
Illinois Territory.
It is too brilliant an idea to not consider.
And dont worry Illinois, you wont be the last state in this position. Like Detroit, you are just a trailblazer.
You know it’s bad when even the dude’s with the license to kill for cash have a hard time getting credit.
Of course; it’s not the Democrat’s fault for out-of-control spending and massive pension giveaways to buy union votes, no, it’s the mean old Republican who won’t agree to steal more from the taxpayers to keep the scam going.
Illinois could have a 50% state tax rate and a way to force people not to be able to leave the state and they still wouldn’t be able to pay future pension liabilities.
The conundrum of the age
Clear communication in sexual encounters is paramount and the stakes are high. Nonconsensual sex is rape. But it’s ridiculous to think that consensual sex should require a legal contract.
This is not the way for students to get clarity on healthy sex. If we are going to change a culture of normalized drunken hookups and damaging acts of sexual violence, we must get to the roots of the problem: communication and education.
————–
To address this intimacy gap in our language, my peers and I started the Consent Project at Middlebury. We invite speakers to address topics like pleasure, anatomy and masculinity. On weekends we host a “Morning-After Breakfast,” where students talk about sex and relationships without judgment. Every breakfast begins with an icebreaker — a game of sex and anatomy trivia to loosen up language around taboos — and then students break into smaller groups to air out personal confusions.
———
Amelia Marran-Baden graduated from Middlebury College this spring.
This sounds like a job for a gigantic federal agency, headed by a girl who just graduated from Middlebury College.
Because without the government to instruct them, children will never learn how to interact with others.
It’s a surprise the Human race was able to reproduce before government was invented.
Jesus Christ, I’m so happy we’re celebrating our 7th anniversary today. Granted, we’ll be doing it by taking the kid to the doctor, then going home and getting loaded while we watch Jeopardy, but at least I won’t be at a “Morning-After Breakfast”. I’m so glad I’m nearly 40. I couldn’t hack youth in this environment.
when you post a hot girl as a link
Which reminds me- sorry, thiccsters, but that is what a womanly ass should look like.
Agreed.
Eh, I’m in the thousand flowers camp when it comes to Dat Azz.
ewwww /teenage girl
Yes.
No, way too flat.
Hard to tell from her positioning, but we would know more when she stands up.
I’d like to take a snap from her IYKWIMAITTYD
+1 delay of game penalty
+1 delay of game penalty
+1 delay of game penalty
etc.
After the judge declares joint custody, she freaks TFO. The father’s reaction is cool as can be.
Damn. Just looked at the comments. Bleech.
Yeah, browsed a little way in, definitely some racist crap there. But some good comments too.
I’m guessing the ex has seen this act a number of times already. That divorce hearing must be like the gates of heaven.
Her lawyer is probably regretting ever agreeing to represent her.
I noticed her head in her hands during the early phase of the tirade. I bet this created a whole lot of extra work for her – work that the now ex-husband doesn’t have to pay her for. Good luck sending that crazy bitch a bill.
Holy moly…..something, something, stick something crazy.
My uncle-in-law is a judge, and I’ve sat in on a few hearings he’s done. He’d have her in jail the second time that she got up and finish the hearing via video call. And home boy who stepped up to the one bailiff would absolutely be looking at charges. These are clearly people who’ve never dealt with the courts and have no idea just how easily a judge can ruin your life.
I went to a vape shop for the first time in awhile this weekend and asked the cute artsy chick about some of the flavors on the wall behind the counter. She suggested a few, and I asked if I could try them out. She said “sure! but first I have to charge you a dollar…” I looked at her and said “that’s new, what happened?” She said, “the FDA regulates us now, they don’t even know what a 3200mAh MAX 20A/40A Battery battery is and they were barely able to help us understand the new rules. They think we’re tobacco, so they prohibit us from letting customers have anything for free, including samples.”
We proceeded to hate on the government together for a bit and then make some jokes about Key & Peele. It was fun, then she mentioned her boyfriend, so I promptly made my purchase and left.
Unfortunately, she probably thinks that Bernie would solve it all.
Yep, I tried to drop a few hints that this is how the government operates in general. Not sure if she picked up those hints, probably not.
Hey if she was a bernie bot you should have made a point that if her BF were a real stand up guy he wouldn’t mind sharing
Nice…
then she mentioned her boyfriend, so I promptly made my purchase and left.
Boo. Fight for love!
Love? Naaa
Rule 1. Don’t even let the comment register. You wouldn’t believe how much fun women have seeing guys scurry away when they use that word. So at the very least, even if you’re not going to escalate, deny them the enjoyment of seeing you retreat.
Furthermore, hard as this is to believe, some of them ain’t even telling the truth. Don’t ask me why the hell they do that, but they do.
They want to gauge your commitment to the cause.
I once had one tell me she was a lesbian. I promptly replied that we had that in common, seeing as I was a lesbian trapped in a man’s body, and ended up taking her out. Yeah, I stuck it in crazy, but then I ran as fast as I could when the floodgates opened.
I don’t doubt it, but I’ve had enough crazy, and trust me, she looked crazy – tats everywhere, bracelets all the way up her arms, painted on eyebrows. Plus, she works retail. I need a professional woman. She was hot, but I think I’m over the crazy phase.
ROADZZZZZZZZZZZ
MUH ROAAAAAAAAAADS!!!!!
It would be great if these tax apologists actually looked up where their tax movies went, because I’m pretty sure in my state sales tax doesn’t go to build roads.
I thought it was the gas tax that went to muh roadz?
Oh, John!
How old are you?
The ROADZZ are supposed to be funded by the hefty gasoline taxes already paid by drivers.
But it doesn’t matter, because I’m not justified in stealing your money just because I use a small part of it to build something you may use at some point.
In my state, “The People’s Republic of Connecticut”, we have one of the highest gas taxes in the nation. Unfortunately, the income from that ends up in the general fund, where it is then used by the political class to pay people to vote for them, while the infrastructure around us goes into disrepair. So now they want to bring back toll roads (they removed those back in 91 when Weicker used the fact they would get rid of those to sell the people on a state tax) and are telling people that they need even more money to pay for what the gas tax was supposed to fund anyway. When asked what the guarantee was that this new income would actually be used to fix roadz, they did a song and dance, and then accused the people asking the question of being wreckers and kulaks.
What a wonderful example of pigeon chess. The left pats themselves on the back that they won some kind of intellectual debate and their most celebrated jabs are positively stupid.
So rest assured that “Liberal @Progressive” is not a Black Lives Matter supporter. And forget about any “duty to protect”…
Al Gore be praised.
Who goes to the library when the government builds and gives away all those internets?
Projection, thy name is Left.
So government waves its magic road wand and those roads come into existence ex nihilo?
Or is government run by a cabal of ascetics who feel it their moral imperative to go bust up rocks into gravel and pave roads themselves for the betterment of mankind?
No, I’m pretty sure that government just acts as middleman between productive, wealth-generating people and contractors who do the actual work. That doesn’t sound so noble.
And finally, my perennial question when the argument comes up… of all the problems to which humanity puts its prodigious effort and intellect toward solving, it’s putting tar and gravel together to make MUH ROADZ that’s going to elude us absent government sticking guns in some people’s backs to pay off other people? Really?
Correct. You can’t argue about the justice or injustice of taxes because roads exist, as well as various other near-total monopolies that the government imposes upon us.
Doesn’t the government often just sub-contract the work to private companies anyway?
Is there any government-run infrastructure company this side of Truman’s public works boondoggles?
The government supplies the armed thugs, the private sector does the rest. That’s the story of every post- New Deal “government provided” infrastructure project I can think of.
I guess it’s heartening that we’ve moved from actual thugs showing up to enslave producers (or Truman threatening economic nationalization to compel cooperation) to mere bribery, collusion, and the occasional dead teamster.
A good teamster…
The Army Corps of Engineers but they don’t do much with roads, they focus more on things like Dykes and Dams
To the best of my knowledge all roads are built by private contractors. The government itself doesn’t build stuff like that. I believe the same is true for stuff like dams and bridges. The Chesapeake Bay Bridge which is local to me was designed and built by a private company. It’s run (and tolls are collected) by the state, but I believe even basic maintenance aside from posting signage is handled by a private contractor.
The roads thing is the most infuriating canard because it’s such a terrific example of the government doing something poorly.
The only thing I learned is that Grover Norquist needs to learn how to use Amazon, EBay and Craigslist for these types of purchases.
amazon collects sales tax on me.
They do on some stuff here. If it ships from in state. If it says from elsewhere, no tax is applied.
anyone have the overall cost of ROADZ vs the entire budget?
it can’t be much. I’m guessing around NASA levels.
A heapin’ helpin’ of hogwash
And not only has the utopian imagination been stung by its own failures, it has also had to face up to the two fundamental dystopias of our time: those of ecological collapse and thermonuclear warfare. The utopian imagination thrives on challenges. Yet these are not challenges but chillingly realistic scenarios of utter destruction and the eventual elimination of the human species. Add to that the profoundly anti-utopian nature of the right-wing movements that have sprung up in the United States and Europe and the prospects for any kind of meaningful utopianism may seem bleak indeed. In matters social and political, we seem doomed if not to cynicism, then at least to a certain coolheadedness.
Anti-utopianism may, as in much recent liberalism, call for controlled, incremental change. The main task of government, Barack Obama ended up saying, is to avoid doing stupid stuff. However, anti-utopianism may also become atavistic and beckon us to return, regardless of any cost, to an idealized past. In such cases, the utopian narrative gets replaced by myth. And while the utopian narrative is universalistic and future-oriented, myth is particularistic and backward-looking. Myths puport to tell the story of us, our origin and of what it is that truly matters for us. Exclusion is part of their nature.
What the fuck is this even supposed to mean? Beats me. But I suspect racism is involved.
“Utopianism is … uncompromising radicalism” (Popper). To water down the concept as the author does is to belie the truth of utopianism, well established by Plato and Marx, that all opposing ideas and factions must be washed away by the cleansing flood.
The chocolate rations will be raised from 30ccs to 25ccs!
This is how you get terrorists.
Comments are Derpbook.
Oops, that does not belong here.
In case no one has seen it yet, I remember someone asking for prog tear photos or video after Pajama Boy went down in GA. Well, here you go.
Behold, progtard tears!
The YT progs like this guy really want to believe that Ossoff needed to prog harder to win. BernieBros couldn’t even get their boy Perriello the VA Gov nomination even with the entire Obama team on their side; how do they think that progging harder wins in 2018?
Yeah, Democrats, keep running social progressives in Republican districts in the South. See how that plays for you.-
I was just talking to a co-worker about that. When they leave their coastal cites and try prog-talk in the “heartland” – do the locals even recognize it as English? Or do they just assumed that’s some kind of mental case asking for their votes?
The former…
The Atlanta progs probably either don’t know or are purposefully ignorant of him, but I just found this article from the last successful state-wide Democrat in Georgia, Zell Miller. In today’s Marxist/Socialist Democratic Party he probably would be excised and shunned as a crusty old coot, but “left of Susan Collins” is how Team Blue had those Red State Ds in Obama’s bad old supermajority.
I lived in Ga back when he was appointed to the Senate briefly to take the place of someone (can’t remember who off the top of my head) that died in office and generally liked Miller, I thought he would have actually made a decent Presidential candidate.
Saxby Chambliss!
(That’s not who/what happened actually; I just remember the SNL skit with the both of them.)
Zell Miller would be branded a racist redneck kulak by the people in his own party today.
“Never interfere with an enemy while he’s in the process of destroying himself.”

Little-known Democratic Party factoid: Georgia has only had two Governors since the 1877 Reconstruction that weren’t from Team Blue: the current AgSec, Sonny Perdue, and the most recent one, Nathan Deal. The rest have all been Team Blue; of course we’re talking segregationist statists here and not proggy statists for the most part, but even True Believer Jimmy Carter was in on the action here.
But look the first two governors after the military governors were Republican see, they were there right after slavery, so obviously Republicans just want slavery. /prog with no knowledge of history.
How did that girl end up out of the gondola to begin with?
Most likely by being a dumbass. But we need to ignore the obvious explanation and investigate the amusement park, instead.
No idea, but I’m guessing skinny legs and hotpants had something to do with it.

I am curious about the cultural/ethnic background of these youths.
By youths they actually mean 19 year old adults.
But what really needed to happen was two she bears needed to pop out and wreck those guys.
She sounds a little miserable.
This right here is a giveaway that if the kids were white and the victim a Mooslem, they’d have been prosecuted already and you’d see the words “hate crime” appearing somewhere in the text of at least one of the many articles written about this. The lack of cultural or ethnic identifiers makes a pretty strong case that it’s not native Brits, the media would leap at the opportunity to name such affiliations if they were natives, methinks.
So Pakis, not Yobs.
If it’s Pakis, then we must forgive them, they know not what they do. Over half of all married Pakistanis in Britain are married to their first cousin, as they’ve been doing for hundreds of years and many generations. They’re doing all they can to breed intelligence out of their genepool.
As opposed to the yobs who seek the same end through alcohol poisoning.
Epigenetically maybe. But substance abuse issues, a long with whole bunch of other dysfunctions, are enabled by the welfare state. I’m not sure there is any human practice more detrimental to the long term survival of the human species than welfare.
Philando Castile’s family gets a $3 million settlement from the taxpayers for his murder at the hands of a police officer. Officers laugh and go have a drink about it and laugh some more.
As usual, we suckers get stuck with the bill.
That’s why they laughed and went out for drinks…
Maxine must have a staffer assigned to shoe-tying duty since she’s obviously too stupid to do it herself.
The staffer doesn’t just tie her shoes, she also reminds her to breathe.
So your saying this staffer is vital to the essential functions of that Congressional office.
Somebody has to tell Maxine how to vote and when to change her Depends. I picture Maxine’s office operating much like congressman Jonah Ryan’s office.
Congressman Dick Cake does a fine job!
I never cared to watch Veep when if first came out as I avoid just about everything political, but when I finally did I got hooked. The writing is just awesome.
The beauty of it is that, although the show is clearly written by lefty types (and, indeed, Selina is a liberal Democrat), they don’t use the show for propagandizing. They portray everyone on all sides as being venal, corrupt, and greedy. True to life, in other words.
My sister and her husband have worked in politics for years, now as lobbyists, and they have told me repeatedly that Veep is the most honest and true depiction of politics ever made.
I was going to ask “What about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Thick_of_It ?” but then read down and saw the creator of that… went on to create Veep. Did not know that, now I’ll have to try it out.

So, SCOTUS has (finally) agreed to hear Masterpiece Cake Shop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, aka the “BAKE THAT CAKE” case.
It’s actually quite advantageous that this didn’t come up until Gorsuch was confirmed. However, I can totally see Kennedy progging this one and fucking up freedom of association precedent permanently.
SCOTUS will never risk undoing any of the established anti-free association jurisprudence with a ruling favorable to the bakers.
There are some rumors out there that Kennedy might be retiring soon, so this case might be a deadlock, actually.
She seems young to be retiring.

Heresy!
The primary goals of any health care reform should be to restrain (if not lower) costs while improving quality, access and innovation. This is exactly what consumer-driven, free-market competition does in other areas of our economy. Look no further than how laser eye surgery went from exotic to affordable during the years it was not covered by most insurance.
Washington believes that the solution to every problem is more money. But throwing more money at insurers won’t fix the lack of consumer-driven competition, combined with government mandates that artificially drive up the cost of care and insurance.
What’s the point of being a Top Man if you’re going to allow people to solve their own problems, according to their personal convictions and priorities?

—-Forbes
https://www.forbes.com/sites/paulroderickgregory/2017/06/19/is-russiagate-really-hillarygate/#75851ba45cf6
The article goes on to say that although it’s known that the dossier was paid for by Democrat donors, the exact identity of those donors is unknown–but, according to the news organizations listed in the linked article, we do know that Russian intelligence operatives were paid by Democrat donors to smear Trump with the dossier.
Mueller’s investigation may have just become a whole lot wider and/or a whole lot more ridiculous.
It’s a massive story that the press is trying with all their might to ignore. Check out comment #10 for an update.
Twittermeister Iowahawk:
“Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving.”
Why do you think their focus since Trump won last November has been Trump is a stooge of the Russians 24/7? From the start it was obvious that the whole Russia hacking story was a diversion to cover for some real nefarious shit done by the Obama administration in general, and Obama and Clinton in particular, including such doozies as rigging the donkey primary and selling favors to foreign powers and some serious scumbags.
So is Mueller straight shooter enough to tie it together, or is and his cadre of Democratic donor lawyers just a poison pill Comey forced Trump to swallow?
Mueller was Comey’s mentor at the FBI, and he’s the guy that remade the FBI into what it is today–investigating Russian intelligence and international terrorism–rather than a domestic law enforcement agency.
Mueller and Comey were so close, they once threatened to resign together over a disagreement with the Bush Jr. administration.
Presumably, Comey won’t find that his protege or his FBI did anything wrong, but he’ll need to put some scalps on the wall to justify his budget.
Mueller being appointed sans Sessions’ input is why Sessions offered to resign as AG for recusing himself. That’s what Sessions and Trump think of Mueller being a straight shooter.
If Mueller ever goes after Comey or the FBI, it’ll be amazing, and everyone expects Mueller to exonerate Comey and the FBI.
It might be why CNN suddenly changed its policy on Russia stories.
And why a lot of the Democrat leadership have suddenly started telling their loyal followers to stop talking about Russia so much.
Reminds me of the scene from The Hunt for Red October, when Tupolev’s sub is sunk by his own torpedo: “You arrogant ass, you’ve killed us!
A ton of this… they banked on the dnc operatives with bylines hiding the nefarious actions they were engaged while using this fake Russia and Trump collusion story to torpedo any chance of the Trump admin to be able to govern. It was sooner than later going to blow up on them since their lackeys no longer can control what passes for news.
It looks like CNN may have libeled somebody.
I think that’s why they changed their tack on Russia stories.
Their reporters are repeating “unnamed sources” who are slandering people in the Trump administration, and after what Hulk Hogan did to Gawker, CNN better watch out for repeating what “unnamed sources” say as if it were fact.
I hope someone does sue the shit out of CNN. It would be just deserts.
Nothing in there that hasn’t been known for weeks or months. People are starting to put it together, finally, and one would think this would pivot the investigation in a different direction. But then you look at the highly partisan group that Mueller has put together, which has already started anti-Trump leaking like a sieve, and that ain’t gonna happen.
Some conservative commentators like Shapiro (a Harvard Law alum that has a pretty decent idea about the law world) have been pointing out that it’s difficult to create any special counsel of lawyers that isn’t full of Democratic partisan hacks because DC and Big Law in general is a cesspool of leftism. This is why special counsels are a bad idea to begin with.
It was always a big question for me–where did McCain get the dossier?
It’s been well known that Putin has been cleaning house in the aftermath of the dossier story. The people in the intelligence services who were connected to its release keep turning up dead.
“Additionally, an ex-KGB chief, Oleg Erovinkin, who was suspected of helping a British spy draft a dossier on Donald Trump, was found dead in the back of his car on boxing day, 26 December.”
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/russia-diplomats-deaths-theories-putin-kremlin-a7602201.html
We know who drafted the dossier. But how did it get from them to McCain?

To be precise, the claim is that one in four women are sexually assaulted on campus at some point during their college career.

Well, now the first definitions talk about how snowflakes refer to White Supremacists, especially those who get mad at any deviation from White Supremacist orthodoxy.
Honestly, you can’t make this stuff up. Is there no better definition of Snowflake than someone who gets so upset about a stupid innocuous term that they will go online and freak out about it? The White Supremacists aren’t the only ones who freak out about deviations from orthodoxy. My generation sucks.

Yep. There is no right to bear arms in NJ.
The approach taken by the en banc court is indefensible
court didn’t consider that open carry is generally prohibited.
As we explained in Heller, to “bear arms” means to “‘wear, bear, or carry upon the person or in the clothing or in a
pocket, for the purpose of being armed and ready for offensive or defensive action in a case of conflict with another
person.’” The most natural reading of this definition encompasses public carry. I find it extremely improbable that the Framers understood the Second Amendment to protect little more than carrying a gun from the bedroom to the kitchen.

Surprise
The University of Washington researchers found that the minimum-wage increase resulted in higher wages, but also a significant reduction in the working hours of low-wage earners. This was especially true of the more recent minimum-wage increase, from as high as $11 an hour to up to $13 an hour in 2016. In that case, wages rose about 3 percent, but the number of hours worked by those in low-wage jobs dropped about 9 percent — a sizable amount that led to a net loss of earnings on average.
But experts on the minimum wage questioned the methods of the University of Washington researchers.
Advocates for raising the minimum wage “refute” findings they don’t like.
My SIL tends bar part-time but argues for minimum wage laws and talks up Europeans not tipping because the American practice is backward and demeaning for servers. She acknowledges that she’d probably lose money if she earned more base wage rather than tips, but for her it’s not about money, it’s about forcing her employer to pay benefits. Envy is a greater motivator than self-interest, apparently.
She also gets very angry when I point out she’d be shitcanned in favor of a more permanent, more flexible bartender without a kid.
In Minneapolis our City Council is about to enact a $15 minimum wage including for tipped servers. Any resistance to this is met with a chorus of “the tipping system is bad because Europeans don’t tip so restaurants should pay a living wage.” Which is fine, I suppose, except that tipping IS a thing that exists and I have a feeling that tipped servers taking in $15/hour will still expect tips after that minimum wage takes effect.
Not to mention that the average tipped worker likely under-reports their earnings. Have fun paying taxes on every dollar you make!
Pretty sure no one will be tipping when Red Robbin is charging $20 – $25 for a burger
Well, the “Europeans don’t tip” is at least a “2-pinocchios”. Tipping is very common, although as you’d expect, the habit varies from nation to nation. Unlike the US, may Europeans do not feel obligated to tip for crappy service.
And really, I know a fair number of people who do, and have waited table at a variety of types of restaurant, and I don’t remember any of them feeling it was *demeaning* – although many of them resent management forcing them to redistribute the tips.
I guess it helps if they remind themselves that tipping is discretionary. They can always give shitty service if it’s too much effort to serve their client’s efficiently.
I don’t mind if a place has some tips taken for the host or whatever.
commune tips from actual wait staff? no thanks.
big tip jar at a bar? no problem.

So SCOTUS just dropped a bombshell on the last day of the court. They overturned the lower court decisions (for the most part) on Trump’s travel ban. Allowing it to go forward except as applied to people who can “credibly claim a bona fide relationship” with someone in the US.
I thought God said he would never flood the world again, But it looks like it will be raining prog tears again. Prepare the think pieces on how the SCOTUS is undemocratic and that the Justices ought to be elected to term limits.
The three oldest sitting justices are Ginsburg (84), Kennedy (80), and Breyer (78). If Trump gets a second term, he might be replacing all three. That’s another reason to vote for him in 2020.
Trump will replace Kennedy and perhaps Breyer, but RBG is going to be difficult; she’ll try to serve into her 90s out of sheer spite, I’m sure of it.
Alzheimers might have other plans.
If Trump makes his next SOTU address as soporific as possible, maybe she’ll nod off and never wake up.
Isn’t that why they have clerks?
You must not have watched weekend at Bernies.
Are more prog tears coming today? (promptly checking Slate and Salon) In all seriousness, good for the SC in calling out judicial activism when they see it.
An amazing thing: Even my infamously progressive father (whom I’ve described here multiple times before) agrees with SCOTUS here.
Overall the ruling is good, but where did this “relationship” exception get carved out from?
My guess is for people who are married to a citizen.
Relationship would most likely mean immediate family in this instance.
Family “reunifaction” was already in place a la the 1965 act. It amounts to an immigrant multiplier effect.
If they’re married to a US citizen, then they either already have permanent residence, or the right to apply for it. So I don’t think the ban ever affected those people to start with. Or shouldn’t have, so I can understand why that has to be an exception.
Back when I married my wife, we went to the INS and told them that we were going to get married in Korea. Was there anything special we needed to do. They told us that we shouldn’t file any paperwork in Korea about our marriage. If we did, she’d have to stay in Korea until all the paperwork had cleared and she had her permanent resident card. Since her student visa was still valid, INS told us, just come in country with that and then file.
Of course, when we went in for our interview at the INS, the same guy who gave us that advice told us that we had committed visa fraud (because she hadn’t enrolled in another semester of school). When I calmly pointed out that we did exactly what we were told to do, he scoffed and said that they would never have advised anyone to break the law. Then he reached into our folder and pulled out a waiver for the visa fraud that was already typed out and fined us $100.
So to make a long story short, anyone who has married a US citizen either has the permanent resident card, or would be turned away anyhow.
When my wife and I got married, here in the US, we didn’t really have any idea what to do. I talked to one lawyer who told us to just apply for change of status (risky because it would involve her overstaying her tourist Visa). I didn’t listen to him. We applied and she went home until it was approved. Took 8 months, during which time I visited her twice, then went back for our interview, got approved, and we came home. It’s a real pain in the ass, but worked out.
“So to make a long story short, anyone who has married a US citizen either has the permanent resident card, or would be turned away anyhow.”
This is correct, so the person would not be affected since the person would have to remain in their own country until the visa was approved regardless of what country it is.
The first trump travel ban was sweeping and ignored the distinctions between visa/green-card holders and tourists/visitors.
the 2nd one tried to parse it more specifically, but still asserted that the executive retained the authority to “ban anyone” for any reason. They over-reached slightly on that; once someone has been approved by the state department and granted a visa, the presidents expansive authority to ban travel becomes weakened.
* my comment may actually have nothing to do with the ‘bona-fide’ relationship thing. but it was an aspect of why the lower courts challenged the EO in the first place.
They would have challenged it anyways and the lower federal courts, one of them at least, would have passed down an injunction even if the first EO was done right. That said, Trump certainly gave them standing to push their child-like legal arguments with that first EO.
About time a court respected the constitution on this.

What’s up with that moniker, anyway?
Jezza? The totally predictable result of the limeys and ockers putting ‘zza’ on the end of people’s names. Shazza, Bazza etc. Totally retarded, but that’s a good reason to use it with Corbyn.
It’s really the analog of “ScarJo”, etc, in all it’s intellectually bankrupt, vacuous glory.
The other thing is that it looks like his supporters use that name too, maybe in an attempt to adopt some prolespeak to humanize Corbyn and make him seem like a man of the people, rather than a man of the gulags.

A second shaky ruling from the SC, this time a 6-3 decision: Supreme Court Rules That States Must Include Same-Sex Couples On Birth Certificates
Note: this ruling is one of the reasons why I tell my friends and family that being socially liberal (like I am) and being socially leftist are two entirely different things. Thinking that people should live the way that they want to live does not mean that we can throw out the rules and realities of science to fit a narrative.
” throw out the rules and realities of science to fit a narrative.”
That horse has already bolted.
That sounds like a very bad ruling. What was the majority’s argument?

I’m still waiting them to force a Muslim owned bakery to bake a gay wedding cake.
Let me see if I understand this correctly. The Jews are in charge of white supremacists, so their children should be killed because Trump is President?
https://madderthanhell.wordpress.com/2017/05/09/this-is-anarchy/
That flyer looks trollish.
It’s all Poe’s Law at this point. So who knows?
For comparison, this is a known antfag website:
https://itsgoingdown.org/
Looks trollish, but even if it is, I take rather strong exception to overt advocacy of genocide of children. I guess we’re past the “have you no decency sir?” stage, but I still think there are lines that shouldn’t be crossed. Just makes me glad I’m armed to the teeth.
The first trump travel ban was sweeping and ignored the distinctions between visa/green-card holders and tourists/visitors.
I am speaking from a position of open, honest ignorance, but was that the specific structure of the “ban” or was it the manner in which the minions of the deep state *chose* to interpret it, in order to generate the utmost outrage?
One possible explanation is that Trump wants to go ahead and issue a basic decree and if the details need working out, that can be done later.
I have no idea, really.
I think every single lawyer from every corner of the political spectrum agreed that the very first EO was incredibly-stupidly written. It wasn’t selective interpretation that found fault = it was actually bone-stupid, and created many obvious problems with people like “green card/visa holders” who have a variety of legal rights that non-visa holding travelers did not.
e.g. once you’ve been granted a visa by the State Dept, you are effectively under the protection of US laws. where you are in transit shouldn’t matter. The executive’s power to prevent X category of people from entry would apply only to ‘new’ applicants. I don’t know to what degree the executive can demand people have green card/visa rights stripped, but i think it would need to be asserted under a different law than the one the EO arguments applied to.
Supreme Court to hear case of baker’s refusal to make wedding cake for gay couple
“Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop, had refused to sell a customized cake for a gay couple’s union, claiming a religious exemption to the state’s anti-discrimination law.
“State courts had ruled against the businessman.
“The high court will now decide whether applying Colorado’s public accommodations law to compel the baker to create “expression”– a wedding cake — violates his constitutionally protected Christian beliefs about marriage.”
Unless the SC is willing to throw out the idea of Public Accommodations, I don’t think this guy will make it. But agreeing to hear his case is heartening. It means that they see that there might be some merit to the case.
The lawyers should’ve looked for an Islamic baker if they really wanted to get the left and right on the same side of the decision. Still, good to see that the case will be heard.
I am not aware of a noncommunist society which takes “the idea of public accommodations” to its logical conclusion. Capitalist countries allow exceptions, irrational as they may seem. The alternative is to take a sled and shoot all the way down the slippery slope into Communietopia.
I think I understand what you mean. But my point is that Public Accommodation is so entrenched in society that I don’t see how you can successfully argue out of it based on religious grounds.
They’re hoping the Free Expression trump card will carry the day. Its about the only Constitutional right the courts are still remotely serious about (although between the commercial speech carve-out and the campaign speech carve-out, they aren’t really all that serious about it).
At this point, I’d be satisfied if they stipulated that the plaintiff would be forced to eat said cake under penalty of law.
Pixar Writer Debunks ‘Toy Story’ Theory Regarding Andy’s Father
The original co-writer denied this via Twitter. But seriously, how did a kid in the 90’s end up with a rare toy from the 50’s? I remember wondering about that when the second movie came out.
Okay, but where is the Trump angle?
Cishetero shitlord admission: it never occurred to me to wonder where that kid’s father was, because I was used to my dad being at work all day.
People think wayyyyy too much about plot holes in cartoons.
Oh, that’s nothing compared to the video game theories.
HL3 confirmed.
It couldn’t have anything to do with… I don’t know… Animation being a new process at the time, Andy’s parents not even being closely related to the overall plot, and the cost of animating a father into the movie?
Yes, the high cost of animating another adult character at the time is why they didn’t include a father. But the theory is more about how Andy ended up with Woody, a toy from the 50’s.
The reality is that he probably *wasn’t* a toy from the 50’s until Toy Story 2 was written. And then they just decided not to bother with the question of how Andy ended up with him, though I bet some ideas were tossed around.
The only reason I noticed that Andy doesn’t have a father is because it’s really, really common for there to be missing/dead parents in Disney movies. And yes, I know Pixar wasn’t owned by Disney when the first Toy Story was made, but it was the product of a big development deal between the two companies and was distributed by Disney.
We can all relax now.
Mr. Bharara will become an executive vice president at Some Spider, which Vinit Bharara started in 2014. He will also host a podcast called “Stay Tuned With Preet.” (The phrase “Stay Tuned” will sound familiar to anyone who attended his news conferences.)
The podcast, which is scheduled to begin airing in the coming months, will explore justice and fairness issues and provide in-depth analysis on legal cases. Mr. Bharara also expects to write articles for Some Spider’s news and entertainment website, Cafe, and he and Vinit Bharara plan to introduce a conference, Cafe Con, next year.
As the United States attorney for the Southern District of New York for more than seven years, Preet Bharara, 48, was perhaps the most powerful federal prosecutor in the country. He prosecuted politicians on both sides of the aisle and earned a reputation for aggressively going after insider trading on Wall Street. He has repeatedly said he has no plans to seek political office, but that has not stopped the murmurings.
A noble, selfless public servant whose brilliant career defending the citizenry from predators was cut short by that heartless monster, Trump. I was really worried about how that poor man was going to put food on his table.
“Some Spider”??? I figured he’d just go join whatever is going to rise as the reanimated corpse of the Clinton Global Initiative.
Just ‘some spider’, or a very specific one?
>fx: Church Lady < Did somebody say … Shelob?
Maybe he can do some wood chipper reviews.
Preet makes you miss Spitzer.
Well, he kept jiggling my arm and I wasn’t using a sling that day.
Is it me, or something seem just a little too convenient about Mr. Bharara’s brother’s business career. Nothing concrete, but it always struck me that the close relative of a prominent government functionary having that much luck as an entrepreneur would be something that would raise eyebrows under different circumstances.
Hmmm
Preet Bharara does have other postprosecutorial plans. In April, he joined the New York University School of Law as a distinguished scholar in residence. He is also working on a book about the search for justice, which the publisher Alfred A. Knopf plans to publish in early 2019.
“Justice? You Won’t Find it Here, so Call Off the Search,” by Preet Bharara
He’ll attach himself to some Democrat’s presidential campaign, or he’ll run for office in New York.
He’d make a great Attorney General for Liz Warren, and by that, I mean he’d be a nightmare.
As far as i know, preet has never actually done a single moment of legal-scholarship in his life
(ie. researched and published any significant work on specific areas of the law that has changed the way judges rule)
i always think its funny that you can get reverse-credibility as a “scholar” if you’ve simply held positions of power
So Scotusblog had a typo in their tweet describing the travel ban decision. Instead of saying “bone-fide connections” it said “bone dude connections”. James Toranto then responded with “US v. Lebowski”. Apparently, the decision really tied the entire constitution together.
John, you crazy mofo, is that really you?
