We are now moving on to day 2 of the Sloopy Single Parent Experiment. Day 1 was an adventure but I managed to survive it intact and everybody remained fed and (mostly) clothed. Hopefully I can keep the place together for the next two days while Banjos “works” in Chicago. All I saw from Day 1 were sightseeing photos and pictures of italian casseroles. But whatever. I still think I’ll win the bet that the house will be in one piece when she gets home tomorrow night.

A pair of teams punched their ticket to the next round of the MLB playoffs yesterday. The Dodgers got the brooms out and swept the D-backs back to the desert, I’ll be honest, I thought they’s beat the Dodgers. But to get swept and be all but humiliated? Jeez, that’s rough. They await the winner of the Cubs-Nats, which sits at 2-1 Chicago after the Cubs won yesterday. They’ll be the lone game tonight. The other team was the ASTROOOOOOOOOS!!! They brushed aside a game Red Sox team in an action-packed game that included a bottom-of-the-ninth inside the park homerun to cut the lead to one. The Yankees won last night, despite Aaron Judge getting his second golden sombrero in four games and hitting a measly .067 in the series. Dude needs to have them sacrifice a live chicken in the clubhouse or run to KFC. They’ll play the Indians in the deciding Game 5 tomorrow night.
Some more soccer teams punched their ticket to Russia 2018 last night, but the most interesting development was Ireland beating Wales on the road 1-0 and sneaking into the playoffs. Th interesting night is tonight, with CONCACAF and CONMEBOL both playing their final round of games. Will the USA get in (if the field is even playable)? Will the Mexicans and Ticos dump their games in order to give the Hondurans and/or Panamanians a chance to pass us? Will the Argentinians sneak back in on the last day? Lots to shake out.
OK, we gotta talk some serious stuff now. Well, kinda. You decide for yourself what’s serious and what’s a joke as I present…the links!

Lena Dunham bitches about the silence of men surrounding Harvey Weinstein. And she regales us of a similar tale that happened to her with another Hollywood producer…who she refuses to name. No word about sticking her fingers into her pre-pubescent sister in the story or falsely accusing someone of rape while in college. And no word about her sexually harassing Odell Beckham at a gala event where she was grinding all up on him when he wouldn’t give her a moment’s attention. Maybe they’ll come up in the next installments. Maybe not. Clinton, Obama and other Democrat power players are conspicuously silent.
Wine Country in California is ablaze. At least 10 dead and well over a thousand structures burned. Stay safe NorCal Glibs. SoCal is in the same boat as the Anaheim Hills fire grows to 6000 acres and forces evacuations. Stay safe SoCal Glibs.
Audit warned that Florida Hurricane Response System wasn’t prepared for Irma. I’ll be honest, I thought they’ve done a pretty good job with the national resources stretched after Harvey. Floridians may beg to differ but the ones I know haven’t complained that much.
Remember how Colorado legalized pot? Not everybody got the memo. The four arrested all “have ties to Cuba” and the local cops arrested them with help from there FBI and DEA. At a “street value of over $1,000,000”, we can assume it was all really worth a couple grand and is more about the state strictly enforcing their oppressive licensing and taxing scam. Which, when you think about it, is ironically what the Cuban growers were probably fleeing in the first place.

Woman posts picture kissing her kid. People become judgmental assholes.
And, oh yeah, the police made a minor change in the timeline of the Vegas mass shooting. And by minor change, I mean they make a fucking earth-shattering alteration to the timeline and release that THE SHOOTER SHOT A SECURITY GUARD OUTSIDE HIS ROOM A FULL SIX MINUTES BEFORE HE STARTED TO OPEN FIRE ON THE CROWD. A full six minutes before he opened fire, he shot someone, without a suppressor, in the hallways of a huge Las Vegas hotel right at the time people are heading out for the night. And the hotel and/or police never came up to investigate for another 76 minutes? Never got a call down from a curious guest that happened to open his door and see a security guard bleeding after hearing a loud bang? Well congratulations, LVMPD and FBI. You’ve managed to make pretty much anything else you say questionable. In further news, they’re still 100% certain he had no ties to any extremist groups and that he for sure, without a doubt was the only one in the room. Jesus, what a fucking disastrous fuckup.
Getting deeper into the week. And into the groove. (no, its not Madonna).
Good luck out there today. I’m gonna try and keep the place in one piece as I work and as Banjos enjoys a mini-vacation work conference in the Windy City.

75) I saw an article a few days ago that reminded me that D.C.’s minimum wage is rising by steps to $15, which it will reach by 2020. The economy of Northern Virginia thanks you, DC! What struck me in the article was that it referred to the “DC Living Wage Act.” It occurred to me how easy it is for a politician to vote for the “Living Wage Act.” How much harder would it be to vote for something more accurately named? In that spirit, I came up with a few ideas:
The Unskilled Worker Idle-ization Act
The Boosting Under-the-Table Payment Act
The Robot Full Employment Act
The Democrat Vote-Buying But Economy-Killing Act
The problem with that name is that every bill they propose could fairly be named that, so how do you choose which one gets it?
Those don’t make handy acronyms!
UWIIA: I-C-U-P!
BUTTPA: Take this job and shove it up your BUTTPA!
RFEA: Pronounced “roofie”
Boosting Under-The-Table Financial Underwriting of Convincing Knuckleheads (to vote against their interests) Act
Capital region
Outstanding
deMonitization of
Marginal
Intrastate
Employees
Act
The high schooler who wants to make some money disenfranchisement act.
You didn’t capitalize any letters! How do we know what the acronym is??!??!!?11?/!?!1
I got a couple of 15 year olds who already hate the minimum wage for exactly this reason.
They just want a job that can put $50 a week in their pockets and no one will hire them
Time for them to learn about black market labor.
There are no unskilled workers in DC though, the magic of being so close to the federal government makes everyone better. Being unbelievably competent and generally superiors to private sector workers is contagious.
contagious
Like a venereal disease.
EXACTLY like a venereal disease.
I forget who it was who said that if you can’t imagine someone advocating the implied opposite of a political slogan, that slogan is empty and meaningless. It applies to most leftist talking points though.
The Permanent Underclass Restoration Act
DC is actually close to becoming a fake version of real city with multiple neighborhoods, restaurants, bars, etc. This will definitely roll back that progress. Pay $7 for a beer in Arlington vs. $12 (eventually) in DC. Pay $25 for an artisinal fusion hamburger.
This is going to be fucking awesome for my neighborhood! Maybe we should have held out for more $$ when selling the property to a developer.
(though a 300% profit from when I bought the place in 2000 is not too shabby)

“Lena Dunham bitches about the silence of men surrounding Harvey Weinstein.”
I think I’ve noticed a pattern here. Harvey Weinstein–old man. Bill Cosby–old man. Roger Ailes–old man.
How come nobody came out with these harassment claims with these men when it actually happened? Only now, when these guys are like 80 years old, do people have the guts to confront them. Finally getting their comeuppance after a lifetime of shameful behavior? Or the elderly are easy pickings?
Because at the time these things were allegedly happening, these men had the power to advance careers. The accusations only come out when they are old and losing much of their former power and influence.
Let me coin a phrase:
King Lear Syndrome
That’s pretty good.
This is the correct answer.
That is some of it, but part of it is that times and attitudes have changed as well. Even as little as a decade ago these charges would have been at worst a minor scandal as most peoples reaction would have been a yawn because they already knew the casting couch was a thing going back decades
“As the camel falls to its knees, more knives are drawn.” Brave bunch of people, the media. Makes you wonder what other stories they’re sitting on because they’re too scared to tell them.
It’s not usually about “fear”. It’s usually about supporting the corrupt people they’re sitting on stories about.
The Bill Clinton sex scandals got say on forever until they couldn’t suppress them anymore. The John Edwards scandal got broke by the National Enquirer because Newsweek refuses to print it.
Nah. Most of the stories being held back are because the principals involved, not fear of reprisal.
The accusations only come out when they are old and losing much of their former power and influence.
Exactly this. It’s what makes the whole thing just repulsive all around. None of these people say a word while the person can help or hinder their career. They let it slide knowing full well that the guy will do similar things to other people. Hell, if Dunham’s blatherings are to be believed (Okay, a big if.), she’s essentially covering for someone at this moment. While trying to garner attention for attacking a guy whose career is essentially over. Meanwhile, they pat themselves on the back about how brave and noble they are for “speaking truth to power” when that power has been utterly dissipated.
Let’s put it as simply as possible. Sure, there may be some decent people in the entertainment business, people who do their job competently and go home to a decent life. So, the standard individualist disclaimers apply. But, for the most part, these are horrible excuses for human beings. These are people who live their every waking hour in pursuit of public attention and approval, even if that approval is utterly shallow and the attention is being paid by people who are utterly despicable. These are people who let no moral principle interfere with their desire to be part of the “in crowd”.
I can’t help but wonder if show business has such a negative view of business and free markets because of how many moral lepers they meet in their own industry.
No matter what happened, it’s no excuse to post a picture of Lena Dunham. That’s not OK.
Sloopy’s just lashing out because the Yankees won.
Nobody needs to see Lena, her sister doesn’t even want to look.
The cynic in me says that it’s because of a lack of evidence. If you accuse someone of a rape that happened decades ago, you can’t prove it, but they can’t really disprove it either. The accuser would have an excuse as to why there’s no rape kit, injuries consistent with rape, or witnesses who could corroborate the story.
The accusers might – at least in Cosby’s case – think they can get a huge payout just because the guy is so old and doesn’t want to spend his last few years of life defending himself against rape accusations in court.
“Never got a call down from a curious guest that happened to open his door and see a security guard bleeding after hearing a loud bang?”
Hasn’t enough time passed that a coherent explanation of the events is due?
Clearly the gunman was dead to begin with and it was aliens who fired on the crowd before beaming out.
I said coherent.
What’s not to understand?
Paddock was a patsy set up by (((foreign agents))) (did I do that right?) who met him in the room, whacked him, then shot the security guard and shot up the crowd before fleeing with the connivance of the FBI and police. This is why the timeline is fucked up and why there is no security footage of the comings and goings regarding that room.
(I have actually seen a version of this put out as a serious theory.)

Blade Runner 2049 is an uneasy feminist parable about controlling the means of reproduction
Feminists don’t understand that a lot of women love having babies and staying home with them.
My wife laments from time to time that she wished she stayed home every single day with our daughter.
That’s a huge goal for both my wife and myself, and right now we have about seven months to figure out how to make it work. If whatever healthcare changes Rand Paul and The Donald are cooking up can drop our family premium below our mortgage payment, it might be possible.
Is there a stat showing Obamacare premiums are higher than mortgage payments?
I don’t know if there’s a stat, but that’s my personal scenario. My mortgage is in the $700 range and the quotes I’m getting for family coverage are $900-$1200 for the lowest level of coverage.
Back when I was making $11 per hour (one of those jobs you just take for the experience) my cheapest option was $135 a fucking month. I’m single.
Remember how this dumbass program was supposed to be the end of high health insurance costs for everyone but the super-rich? Whenever I’d mention my high premiums to my “progressive” relatives, they’d get all mealy-mouthed and say, “well, it’s better for society to spread the costs of healthcare to everyone.”
Gee, that’s not what this law was supposed to be! The Democrats promised that it would work like a well-oiled machine and deliver an infinite wellspring of virtually free healthcare to The People™! Why don’t they just mount some wheels on those goalposts?
well, it’s better for society to spread the costs of healthcare to everyone
Which, in reality means – the healthy subsidize the sick. Which, in most cases means young families with children, generally at the bottom of the income ladder, subsidize the elderly that have had a lifetime of earning potential to save up for medical expenses.
18 months into the 2nd one, mine was done. She’s back in school now for a PTA certificate, and both adults are happier. Quite possibly the kids are as well.
Doesn’t mean we wouldn’t have done 28 months total between the two. We moved to Texas just after Christmas in 2014, and she didn’t put them in daycare again until this August. She would be full of regret if she had not, but it also doesn’t have to be forever.
Didn’t it kinda flop?

‘Blade Runner’ and Other Movies That Men Have Been Trying to Get Women to Care About for Decades
https://melmagazine.com/blade-runner-and-other-movies-that-men-have-been-trying-to-get-women-to-care-about-for-decades-af02bcc2babc
I just made the mistake of reading a good portion of that crap.
Did it even get released?
With an estimated $31.5 million, Blade Runner 2049 finished atop the weekend box office, but fell well below expectations. Entering the weekend the Warner Bros. release, in association with Alcon Entertainment and Sony, was expected to deliver anywhere from $45-55 million domestically and $4 million from Thursday previews signaled a solid start, but things quickly cooled for the $150 million production.
I mean it may make it’s money back, but it wont be a smash. I think for 150 mil budget they would need about 400 mil us+international to be profitable, and they did not start well down that road.
I gave up on movies a long time ago. It boiled down to a combination of not liking being a passive observer and poor quality of offerings. So I don’t notice a lot of releases. Heck, I didn’t notice whenBlockbuster went bankrupt.
I like movies, but I hate movie theaters. I wait for it to be available for my home theater, which is a much nicer experience.
The last time I was in a movie theater was when the first Alien vs. Predator came out. I can’t imagine going to one today because of 1) not being interested in any movies that are coming out, and 2) being worried about getting bedbugs from the seats.
Ha. Speaking of Blockbuster. The Last Blockbuster Store twitter is pretty funny.
LOL
I’m dying.
It’s not for everyone. Why doesn’t Sony get that? It’s not Guardians of the Galaxy. It’s moody and dark.
But it’s a legacy piece! Fans should be sucking studio exec dick to get another serving of a cult classic.
My reaction to “They’re making a sequel” was “Why?”
There was nothing within the story arc that warrented a second film. The first film was only okay, and it’s been decades, meaning expectations would not be set at the level of the actual quality but of the hype and nostalgia, which is far higher.
Its funny how when you recycle something that was a bold vision 40 years ago, it just doesn’t have that same kick. I’m looking at YOU Star Wars/Trek!
My reaction to “They’re making a sequel” was “Why?”
My guess: it only made sense on paper if they attached Ford, and Ford’s looking pretty gaunt these days. So it was pull the trigger on what, at least to go by RLM’s review, sounds like a serviceable sci-fi action flick that’s not going to blow any minds, or shelve the idea for good.
But I doubt we’ll be talking about any tears in rain moments in thirty years.
The first film was only okay, and it’s been decades, meaning expectations would not be set at the level of the actual quality but of the hype and nostalgia…
I think you’re dead wrong on this. And that’s actually why I think the idea of a sequel is a dumb idea. Even a good movie would be, for me, a letdown. And given the nostalgia audience, the people making the movie are going to know quality isn’t all that essential.
What a fundamental misunderstanding of Frankenstein.
Mel Brooks got it.
NO SPOILERS
I’m not going to read this article and ruin the movie for myself. I bet its just good fun. I’m seeing it tonight since its $7/ticket on Taco Tuesdays.
“Feminism is one potential solution to this problem”
I thought the clarion call of feminism was “women need men like fish need bicycles”? How is that going to encourage reproduction?
If the problem is cohesive families raising multiple well-adjusted children, then feminism really is the solution to stopping that.
Maybe androids don’t dream of electric sheep, but some human men certainly dream of electric wombs.
To which I have to ask, why would feminists object to this? I mean, isn’t one of their major complaints that women are seen as little more than sex objects and baby factories? It strikes me that “electric wombs” would liberate women from the latter as assuredly as sexbots would liberated them from the former. They should be begging for replicant mothers.
Robot rape is still rape, you patriarchical shitlord.
Its more about making men feel miserable in order to make some women feel better.
Takes away reproductive power, which feminists complain about but also realize is a vital reason why they have any degree of control in the first place.
Yep, whereas a woman who claims she can replace a man with a vibrator and save herself a bunch of hassle is a strong woman who should be admired.
“Woman posts picture kissing her kid. People become judgmental assholes.”
Eh, any famous person who posts online is going to get some negative comments. Honestly, the ones the Chronicle wrote about don’t sound too bad.
Sweet picture, though.
Also, would. Mom, not the kid.
JATNAS is OMWC, confirmed!
It’s like I tell my son when he mentions the latest Twitter outrage. Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one, and most of them stink.
Just want to say that child bath pictures are stupid and not even remotely artistic. As somebody who isn’t of the OMWC persuasion, it’s akin to posting a selfie when you are on the pot. I don’t want to see you crap, and I don’t want to see you bathe your baby.
EF posted a fucking reasonable article yesterday. I was fucking shocked
Today they posted this, which just so misses the point…

Skype’s Homeland Grapples With Dilemma of Robot as Legal Person
Robots are people too!
Only two-hundred year old robots.
That’s why you need to wipe their memories on a regular basis.
You didn’t read Asimov, did you?
I read one or two, and decided I liked him a lot less than Clarke, Bradbury, Herbert, Heinlein, Pohl, Chalker, or really pretty much anybody else.
Funny, of that list Clarke was okay, I don’t recall having read Bradbury, Herbert was crap, Heinlein was offensive crap, Pohl was okay but unmemorable (I know I read his work, but I can’t name any). I don’t recognize Chalker. Of Asimov’s work, I recommend his Autobiography most. I’m not a terribly big fan of his work but the reference I was making was to the plot of “The Bicentennial Man”. I recommend the earlier robot stories for the logic puzzles, but avoid the Foundation stuff.
Haters gonna hate.
Herbert = crap ?!
Heinlein = offensive crap? well, maybe
Frederick Pohl wrote the excellent Gateway and its sequels. I also wrote to him as part of a project I did in high school and he wrote back with a friendly, two-page response. He’ll always be on my SF best-of list for that reason.
Jack L. Chalker–Pretty obscure I guess, but he wrote the Well of Souls series in the 1970s, which really blew my mind when I read it middle school. I read another series of his too that wasn’t nearly as good.
I might read an Asimov autobiography. The one of his I know I read was the first Foundation book. i don’t remember too much about it now, but at the time it did not impress me at all.
Chalker milked that one idea into a whole lot of books. I bought them all.
Herbert was good, so was Heinlein (though he got a touch weird at the end).
Pohl was fun too. Coming of the Quantum Cats was decent as well.
At the end of Heinlein’s career I am pretty sure he had as a goal seeing how outrageous of a book he could write and still get it published. That said he definitely set a goal of challenging the reader to re-examine assumptions they never questioned.
That said I am shocked that anyone here would find his stuff offensive, I suppose if you are a really hung up Christian you might find Job:A Comedy of Justice offensive but everything else, well if you find a book that challenges and examines social mores offensive you generally don’t fit into the libertarian camp.
I thought he was referring to Pohl Anderson. I liked both of them. I just re-read the Foundation trilogy…meh.
What I took offense at was the awfulness of the story. Heinlein still rates as the only author to have gotten me to chuck a book at the far wall. I at least finished Dune.
Rasilio – Somehow, someway, Heinlein has been cast as a misogynist bogyman to the left. I assume this was done by people who’ve never read him but have read a lot that was written about him.
He wrote about young men who aspired to be warriors, conforming to a rigid, individualistic moral code. That was sufficient.
That women were valued for different qualities (including martial ones) was typically overlooked.
… well, up until Stranger in a Strange Land .

Is that even possible? Do they even have human emotions?
Detectives along with FBI and DEA agents executed early-morning warrants in the 1800 block of 58th Lane and the 5000 block of Quail Road near Midway Ranch. Investigators received tips on the illegal grows, according to a news release.
This is why I don’t like the way pot laws are being liberalized. Pot growers getting arrested for growing without a license in a state where recreational pot is legal is asinine.
Serious question: Do farmers need a license to grow tobacco?
“According to the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, “The Tax and Trade Bureau does not license, or require a permit for, growing tobacco. In addition, the Tax and Trade Bureau does not regulate the sale of tobaccos that are not tobacco products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture may regulate the growing and sale of such tobacco. You may contact this department at their web site at http://www.usda.gov.”
Basically, it is hard to find anywhere where they come out and say that it is o.k. to grow your own, but they will admit that it is not illegal and that there are no regulations on amounts grown for personal use. Bartering or selling tobacco products is regulated and taxed.
If you are concerned with the legality of growing tobacco in your area, contact your local agricultural extension agent. If you are outside of the United States, you should start with your ministry or department of agriculture.”
That’s the best I could quickly find. I guess the answer is no, but if you start selling your tobacco, then you are subject to taxes and regulation.
I knew an older guy who lived in the mountains around a place I used to do a lot of canoeing. He grew his own tobacco. I have smoked a few of his cigarettes. I’m a regular smoker and his about turned me green. They were so strong I could only take a few half puffs off of one.
A quota system was put in place in 1938 and a law passed in 2004 allowed those quotas to be bought out by the Feds. If you sell your “quota” you are no longer allowed to grow it commercially.
Land of the Free!
How is that not a taking (ala the Raisin Board)? Only Kagan was so dumb that confiscation of crops was not a taking to her. The other 8 Nazgul said – GTFO.
I find it funnier when people who are not growing are raided because cops think a plant looks like weed (tomato plants for example)
So, apparently Rand Paul has been working with Trump behind the scenes on healthcare reform. I’m not sure how I feel about this.
Normally I’d say the best path to passing a complicated bill would be getting lots of legislators to sign on, build a consensus, etc., but that hasn’t seemed to work so well for repealing Obamacare.
So for this, sure, why not? I’m sure whatever Rand comes up with will be better than the crap bills we’ve seen so far. And if it has Trump behind it, maybe we’ll actually see some action.
Judging by what I’ve seen from Rand so far, I feel a flicker of optimism. Then again, too good to be true, and they’ll fuck it up somehow.
The Lobster Pot RINO Twins and Maverick John will stop it.
^^^
I think McCain is Hihnfected
That would explain the brain tumor. (too soon?)
Not soon enough…
Oh, with Rand Paul involved and praising it, my guess would be it’ll probably be something decent. My problem is the whole “Trump using the power of the pen because congress won’t do anything about this” bit. Sounds similar to what a certain previous president once said.
Technically however Obamacare effectively gave the President pretty wide leeway to alter the law in a whole lot of ways. Between the legal loopholes that were never plugged (penal tax) and the explicit delegation of power to the executive branch agencies it wouldn’t be too hard for a sitting president to effectively rewrite half or more of the entire law
Unfortunately, that also means the next db in office can do the same.
The Left’s Sirens Are Already Hinting Our Culture Wars Will End In Another Civil War
I mean to be fair a good civil war is overdue. Some helicopter rides may or may not be needed, as the edgy kids say these days
When only one side is armed, I don’t think that is so much a “civil war” as a “derprising”.
Which would result in a derpocaust.
Based on the proggies I know, I don’t understand why they’re taking the brakes off the civil war train. They’re keyboard warriors with weak, girlish wrists who meme very cleverly but wouldn’t know how to load a gun if one were gifted to them. Taking a fight into the real world — a fight wherein people were actually armed and fighting back — would be disastrous.
I actually haven’t seen much evidence that they meme very cleverly. Most leftist memes I’ve seen are just idiotic.
dank
memes?
I wouldn’t even go that far, the left can’t meme, it it known. If anything they kill memes like a reverse midas. They are great at bitching and moaning online though.
CAUSE MY SEX JUNK

STEVE SMITH SEES YOUR SEX JUNK AND RAISES YOU MORE SEX JUNK. AND BY SEX JUNK MEAN RAPE.
They just assume the government will fight their fight.
I really think that’s it. I think they think that, in case of civil war, they’ll be able to call 911 to sic cops on those nasty deplorables who won’t let them have their way.
Because they’re LARPing, and they apparently have the mentality of teenagers who are all egging each other on to do something stupid first. I think the first shot fired will be preceded by someone saying, “I triple dog dare you.”
You think it’s coincidence that the only uprisings are on campuses, and only to shut down hapless conservative speakers or to secure more handouts from milquetoast administrators?
And even then, the people doing the violence are bused in paid-for agitators. But these are the people who fancy themselves culture warriors.
Pathetic.
You’ve also got some cities (all of them D strongholds) that have turned a blind eye to protests and riots.
I’m sure more than a few city officials and college administrators are sympathetic with the core philosophy, to the extent scream therapy has a philosophy, of those rioting in their cities or on their campus.
But I suspect the main motivation for appearing laissez faire toward rioters is to indulge an important element of the local economy, students. They don’t want to scare off current or potential enrollees, so they coddle them even to the point of letting the cretins smash up businesses and light fires, start fights, suckerpunch people, and shout down invited speakers.
They’re not so blind that they can’t see what it’s doing to places like Mizzou. They, like the retards at ESPN and the NFL, know how their bread is buttered.
They think the government (probably) and the military (not so likely) will all overwhelmingly be on their side and it will just be some rednecks vs. the might of the U.S. military. When in reality it’s more like several states secede and the military breaks down on sectarian lines (or Mattis somehow keeps to together and declares himself Caesar over everybody).
Maybe other people haven’t read the whole history of the French Revolution, but it is the usual template for modern revolutions. Sometimes, they go straight to the Strong Man at the end, but often there are waves and waves of reprisal and counter-reprisal murder before that. Why anyone would think that was a good idea is beyond me. Assuming it is going to be the 10% of the American population you think needs killing who is going to get it is a pretty bold gamble.
And we already see who the reactionary forces would be.
Brett’s right.
And let’s be honest: whichever side gets the upper hand, we
libertarians are gonna end up first against the wall anyway.
True. No one wants to hear our principles when there’s a war on, fortunately we are generally well armed so getting us against that wall gonna cost a lot
As Clemenza said, ” Probably all the other Families will line up against us. That’s all right. These things gotta happen every five years or so, ten years. Helps to get rid of the bad blood.”
The left has demonstrated that they are willing and able to use violence in the furtherance of their political ends. The right has demonstrated that they mostly talk a good game, but fold when shit gets rough. Owning weapons is nothing compared to having the will to use them.
There’s a difference between those owning the weapons and those elected by pretending they’ll enact policies favored by that group. The political animals fold without fail, the people have not.
I wasn’t talking about right-wing pols, I was talking about all the ‘conservative patriot 3% Oathkeepers’ polluting my Facebook feed. They make all the right noises, but when it comes time to crack some heads, they’re generally nowhere to be found.
Not that I blame them much. The lefties can ramp themselves up towards serious violence because they know that they can get away with it. They have political and social structures in place that support them, pay their bail, hire their lawyers, write their press releases, and conceal their identities from friends and employers.
The right has none of this. Some threeper cracks some heads in a riot, he’s gonna sit in jail until his trial and inevitable felony conviction, all his cool guns will be confiscated, he’ll lose his job, and get dragged through the coals by the media as a racist terrorist. Given the consequences, I understand the right’s reluctance to go for direct action. I’m not judging them for being reluctant, I’m judging them for talking shit without backing it up.
Anyway, if it does come down to serious political violence, one side is going to have a load of practical experience and two loads of non-combatant support. A ton of threepers are going to be really surprised when those limp-wristed AntiFA fags roll their dumb asses up.
See BLM ranchers for example.
Good example. Even though most of them were fucking idiots, I give them some credit for showing up. But, we saw how that ended up.
That’s an interesting take. I disagree with your premise though — one side showing restraint isn’t the same as weakness. And I think that “when it comes time to crack heads” hasn’t arrived yet because of the infrastructure aspects you mentioned — the left’s total control of political and social structures. Righty conservative oathkeepers bloviating on Facebook still have a lot to lose, and so they don’t act.
I do agree that the side with practical experience will come out on top; I think the practical experience that matters is that of military members, police, and hunters, all of whom tend to be conservative. Punks swinging bike locks at unarmed civilians is the sort of training you can get by picking up a bike lock and swinging it at a civilian.
Just to be clear, I think both sides would bleed in a civil war scenario. It would be terrible. But I am positive that when the pushback comes, Antifa and their ilk won’t like the outcome.
“Righty conservative oathkeepers bloviating on Facebook still have a lot to lose, and so they don’t act.”
The right could be out trying to replicate the support systems that the left already has. I don’t see any indications that this is happening.
The mere act of trying to set up those support systems might very well be the catalyst for a hot war. If the lefty power brokers see the Deplorables trying to set up rearguard defensive infrastructure, they might just take that as a big enough threat to start openly killing at their “peaceful protests”.
You’re absolutely right; that should be happening.
From what I’ve seen, it seems threepers/oathkeepers/etc. still have a lot more faith in the rule of law and the justice system than either us or the left, and that factors into their thinking and planning a lot. In their estimation, the system can still be worked with via the ballot box, so no point in falling back on the cartridge box, if you will. Therefore, there’s no reason to start setting up extralegal infrastructure to deal with a civil war or uprising.
Basically, there’s no point in their minds to react to Antifa and the media until we either have a major power grab (like, a democrat declaring themselves Emperor for Life) or Antifa going door to door in Bumfuck, Iowa. Until then, the situation is manageable and under control, and the cops, national guard, etc. can handle it.
Contemplate that on the tree of woe.
The part that baffles me is Coates thinking he wouldn’t eventually end up with his neck in the guillotine. Progs live in a fantasy world and if they ever do LARP their way to an actual, hot civil war, the “intellectual leaders” of the progressive movement would almost certainly end up in the ovens one way or another.
They all believe that they are the next Stalin or Mao and will be dictating the terms of the revolution.

Wasn’t he a dusky Genoan?
My own take on the Florida Hurricane Preparedness: The things on the list are mostly Mickey Mouse. Yeah, probably should have renewed that cot contract. Yeah, probably should update that spreadsheet. That’s the sort of stuff audits are supposed to come up with. I think private suppliers did a world-class job getting supplies to market before the hurricane. I think escorting the gas deliveries and keeping them running as late as possible was a good idea. I think the overall state leadership was fair. And, as we’ve previously discussed, the linesmen came in and worked their asses off for us.
OTOH, I still have a great big pile of debris in front of my house that the county has no idea when they will get around to picking up. Word got out that South Florida was paying more, and progress around here fell off dramatically. Given that people didn’t come in to make the money here, I can only suppose that Pinellas is paying less than the market rate. Or else the permit/contract entry barrier is too high.
Monroe County is still a disaster, but some of that is the price you pay for island living, as that is essentially the keys. Its harder for people to get to you, for good and for bad.
There are still piles of debris in various places in my county from…Matthew.
I still have debris in front of my house. I’m not bothered by it because the shear volume meant it was going to take time to clear it all. It’s an eye sore, but at least everything here is functional.
And when you’re bored, you can go jump in it like you would a pile of raked leaves
Check for Haitians first
Too far north. I have to watch for puerto ricans.
They just picked up my second huge pile a couple of days ago. (and I do mean huge. Probably at least 3/4 of a truck load, maybe almost the whole thing. )
My friends in Ft. Lauderdale are not getting as much attention… probably because Pompano is smaller, our crews have less distance to travel. They are staging the debris at the Pompano horse track back lot. It is a pretty impressive pile of tree parts.
Florida’s hurricane preparedness was top notch. Because of the problems with gas back in 2004-5, they put generators in all of the gas stations and the state knew to prioritize gas on the interstates. Even with what was probably the largest evacuation in history, nobody ran out of gas on the side of the interstate and got stranded.
They didn’t ever close off the southbound lanes to get everyone out, so it took me 24 hours to make an 8 hour drive, but evacuations went fine.
The power infrastructure is massively hardened since 2005…. Wilma was the largest storm (area wise) ever, and really devastated the power grid. Irma dwarfed that one in terms of the amount of the state that saw hurricane and tropical storm winds (pretty much the entire state), and yet power outages were reduced and recovery was faster.
You can’t drop all of it on the government, because the people and utilities are the ones who did most of the preparing… but the state did do a good job of putting codes and laws in place that made sure that we were better prepared, and the state responded pretty well when the storm hit.
I don’t see how anyone could complain. It certainly wasn’t New Orleans down here. Everyone got off their butts and did something…. except that one nursing home full of idiots.
We had most of our debris picked up last week, but there’s still some laying around. I heard the same story about south Florida offering more money so we’re contractor poor in Hillsborough. I don’t know what the real story is.
Also after a flurry of activity where contractors came to quote and insurance adjusters came to adjust, there has been zero movement on repairing the big tree hole in my roof.
The fence guy was supposed to show up this morning to start work. I don’t think they usually wait until 9:00am. Maybe. But I also don’t think those guys are busy swimming in the piles of money they’re making, they just haven’t got to me yet.
There are gypsy tree crews everywhere down here. Mostly they are done now, but the last two weeks they were crawling around like ants, making offers to trim trees for $1,500 bucks (normally a couple hundred around here). They even offered to trim my coconut palms for $600….. normally someone wants to do it for free if you let them keep the coconuts.
My vendors all lost employees and 1099s when Irma hit. They left Texas and went to Florida to handle claims. Every swinging dick with a ladder and tape measure flocked to FL because State Farm and Citizens opened the vault and began paying absurd amounts.

Listen, you bunch of ingrates. I redeemed myself with an Olivia Wilde snap. Sure it’s got a kid in it, but it can lead you down a rabbit hole of…more Olivia Wilde. And that’s never a bad thing.
Note: do not do the same with Lena Dunham under any circumstance.

Richard Thaler Wins the Nobel in Economics For Killing Homo Economicus
Thaler’s work shows that assuming human beings are predictably irrational is the most rational approach to studying their behavior.
https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/10/richard-thaler-nobel-economics/542400/
I am not a fan of behavioral economics, and I am not sure they get that the use of rational in economics context may not be the same as in other context. But most behavioral econ experiment I read about did not seem the very bit least conclusive. People being subjective in their preference is not the same as irrational. This makes imo rational difficult to define from an economics perspective.
Some economist even said stuff like this about it
„When applied to the ultimate ends of action, the terms rational and irrational are inappropriate and meaningless. The ultimate end of action is always the satisfaction of some desires of the acting man. Since nobody is in a position to substitute his own value judgments for those of the acting individual, it is vain to pass judgment on other people’s aims and volitions…The critic either tells us what he believes he would aim at if he were in the place of his fellow; or, in dictatorial arrogance blithely disposing of his fellow’s will and aspirations, declares what condition of this other man would better suit himself, the critic…It is usual to call an action irrational if it aims, at the expense of “material” and tangible advantages, at the attainment of “ideal” or “higher” satisfactions…However, the striving after these higher ends is neither more nor less rational or irrational than that after other human ends.
– Ludwig von Mises, Human Action”
Also accordint to the ultimate authority, this tweet i read showing some study, “Nearly all research in behavioral economics that advocates paternalistic policy contains no analysis of cognitive abilities of policymakers”

Bam. I took a behavioral econ class in school. The professor (who wasn’t an economist) was so arrogant and argued in such bad faith, it was a turn off. He was one of the worst professors I had, and that’s compared to the real life Marxists who taught the rest of my classes.
And of course Kimmel won’t stfu about politics. Someone here mentioned that he’s angling for a Franken promotion and I think that’s becoming clearer. Some clever dem strategist is going to start pushing Dem celebrities to run for office, missing the point of Donald Trump’s election and assuming it had to do with name recognition and not a perfect storm of populist dissent.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/jimmy-kimmel-donald-trump-jr-advice_us_59dc4d5ae4b0b34afa5bbe4b?ncid=inblnkushpmg00000009
Where is he from? If he ran anywhere outside of CA, I suspect his opponent would mock him in nasty ads until Kimmel has a complete meltdown and does a Downfall level tirade that ends his campaign.
He’s from Vegas
I think Trump was more of a reaction to people like Kimmel and their ilk, looking down on us. Running a bunch of late night show celebs would be a disaster for the Democrats.

I doubt Weinstein would be stupid enough to harass a child of the man who would drone him if it came to that. Or have him pushed in front of a bus, or have him “robbed”.
Dove apologises for ‘racist’ Facebook advertising campaign
http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/41542818/dove-apologises-for-racist-facebook-advertising-campaign
One thing I’ve noticed is that, the larger a corporation becomes, the more “progressive” it’s going to appear, at least in its advertisements. We milliniels look to spend what precious money we have left after the monthly loan payment for our underwater basket weaving degree on products from businesses that mirror our values (because buying something because it works and is a good value is so bourgeois). And businesses know this. Other generations don’t really care much about the social signalling, so they might as well go after milliniels.
Having said all that, I don’t think Dove is trying to say that their soap can wash away blackness. However, its a much more reasonable interpretation of the ad than “our soap can be used by all races”
Other generations don’t really care much about the social signalling
Based on my limited exposure to FB there seems to be a trend among conservative, gen x, women (mostly stay at home mothers) to patronize/boycott businesses based on the perceived politics of the parent company.
That campaign would work in Sri Lanka and India where they sell ladies’ skin lightener in the stores.
Or the Dominican Republic.
Predictably, 4chan is going nuts over the changed timeline of the Vegas shooting. I don’t want to jump to “it was an inside job” yet, but I certainly don’t blame people for thinking it. Something fishy is going on.
We’ll see. I’m not ready to give up on incompetent investigators against a person who seemed to be able to find the edges in things. Right? Good at video poker, which you should lose your ass on. Was a dick about opening comp’d things even if he didn’t use them. Had spent a lot of time watching the casinos. Maybe he really was just careful and thorough.
If you play perfect video poker on certain machines your return is approximately 99.54%. I have a friend who goes occasionally and gets crazy comps. He’ll bet $15k-$25k on a weekend and be within a few hundred dollars every time (on the video poker, not including other gambling he does). Even if he’s on the losing end of that he gets far more back in free shit from the casino. Only thing is that you do run into bad luck sometimes, so you have to be able to afford (and not panic at) a swing or two.
The simplest explanation is nearly always the true one though. And never underestimate the incompetence of police officers.
I agree – and we are talking about hotel security – guys who weren’t smart enough to be cops. And an investigation being run at the political level of the FBI where incompetence is a prerequisite. The Clark County Sheriff seems to be the only one noticing problems in the whole mess.
I’d agree about your assessment of hotel security anywhere but Vegas. And especially at a very expensive casino/hotel like Mandalay Bay. Their security service is probably very well-paid and they’re probably armed and have a strict routine they follow.
If this guy was so meticulous, how did he not know the security routine? Or if he did, why did he time his rampage for six minutes after he’d have to shoot a security guards and set off all kinds of potential alarms and reactions?
The change is either:
A. Very damning on the reaction time by both hotel security/LVMPD.
B. Inconceivable since they have no records or public statements by startled people on the floor who at least looked out their room and saw a bleeding uniformed security guard after hearing a loud bang.
C. A diversion.
I also noticed they’re no longer speaking of him as an accused shooter. They’re reporting it as fact that he did all of this stuff and that he acted alone in the room. Without question and without the investigators substantiating the claims.
*Looks at wallet.*
*Kicks pebble.*
Indeed – people far too often mistake incompetence for malfeasance.
200 rounds to wing a security guard. I know the media won’t bite, but that doesn’t say much for his deadly bump-stock skills the media keeps going on about. Also doesn’t say much for the cops and hotel security. He really could have fired off a couple hundred rounds, been out of the hotel and on one of his planes if he had wanted to go that way.
Wait. He fired 200 rounds in the hotel before shooting out the window?
Early in the week they said he complained about loud music from the room below. So the hotel isn’t sound proof enough to hide loud music, but it is soundproof enough so that nobody in adjoining rooms heard automatic weapon fire.
He must have had one of those dreaded SILENCERS! The only sound made was a hushed pfew-pfew-pfew
4chan apparently needs to stop underestimating the incompetence of cops.
Also as a Rick and Morty fan I knew where this was going. I think this article does a pretty good job of breaking it down
https://www.polygon.com/2017/10/9/16447460/rick-and-morty-szechuan-sauce-mcdonalds-fans-anger
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Rick’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they’re not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick’s existential catchphrase “Wubba Lubba Dub Dub,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. ?
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid ?

“yoga”
Paddleboard yoga is a real thing, and I think it’s ridiculous.
Look at me, everybody!
Gotta have something for the old Instagram account, I guess.
My gym is constantly advertising the latest and greatest fitness trend. Paddleboard yoga last year, now it’s some kind of pool-based fitness nonsense wherein you ‘harness the power of water’ or something.

“Wine Country in California is ablaze. At least 10 dead and well over a thousand structures burned. Stay safe NorCal Glibs. SoCal is in the same boat as the Anaheim Hills fire grows to 6000 acres and forces evacuations.”
I don’t know whether it’s that my libertarianism starts to break down over issues like weed abatement or whether weed abatement is a part of local government’s legitimate function in protecting people’s rights–but I believe it’s the latter.
Understand, people elsewhere, that there are fire zone maps just like there are flood maps. People know when their property is in a fire zone. Letting weeds grow on your property, which die every summer and pile up over the years as tinder–in a fire zone–is like creating a flood to destroy other people’s property through your own negligence.
Meanwhile, the city or county coming in and cutting down the weeds on your property in a fire zone and sending you the bill is certainly more defensible from a libertarian standpoint than simple property taxes. They’re providing you a service in the act of protecting other people’s rights and doing so after you’ve been sent a legal notice warning you what they were going to do ahead of time.
Weed abatement isn’t theft.
Disagree. Letting, as in doing nothing while natural events occur, is quite different from creating. If I do not build levees and ‘let’ my downstream neighbors get flooded in a storm that is very different than me ‘creating’ a dam and pond which later fails and floods my downstream neighbors.
Purchasing property in a fire zone only obligates one to the extent that local ordinances or agreements that existed at the time of purchase.
It really is the same.
It’s negligence in those high risk fire zones.
And this kind of negligence even requires mens rea–they actively decide not to do something and it puts their neighbors at increased risk.
Understand what these fire corridors are about, too. A lot of it has to do with topography and prevailing winds. It’s actually worse than flooding events in some ways.
Building something in a floodway (as opposed to a flood plain) changes the course of the current and hence whose property is impacted by a 50 year flood event, but it doesn’t increase the likelihood of it raining. It doesn’t increase the likelihood of a flood event.
Failing to keep brush from accumulating on your property does, however, increase the likelihood of a fire.
So what does it take for a civil servant to get fired? Easy, just bring some watermelon to work.
Reminds me of an old joke: why do black people love watermelon and fried chicken? Because that shit is delicious. Everybody loves watermelon and fried chicken.
I sure do. Driving through Maplewood NJ (the edge of the hood) yesterday, my son commented that there were a lot of chicken places then realized what he had said and laughed. I bet they are damn good too.
I have never seen the point of watermelon, personally. Mostly flavorless, way too messy.
Fried chicken, on the other hand, is divine.
Seedless watermelon seems to have far less flavor than the real stuff – and none of the fun of spitting seeds which I loved as a kid.
Harumph!

I love that the duck vs goose controversy shows up almost immediately!
Isn’t it awesome? I had no idea people said “goose” until I was 8 years old and we moved to VT.
I had no idea anyone said anything but Goose until now.
The game is called Duck Duck Goose for a reason.
“Gray duck” doesn’t even make sense and can’t be said quickly enough to take advantage of the reaction time delay of the other person. the added syllables slow you down.
One said “You can go grey or gray, but never goose”
What about Grey Goose?
I’ve heard firsthand accounts from people that it most often gets bought for the bottle – which the customers refill with mid-shelf vodkas.
This was mentioned in Stop Acting Rich.
I heard it from a manager of a Liquor store.
I’ve never heard of “Stop Acting Rich” and don’t know what medium is in.
https://www.amazon.com/Stop-Acting-Rich-Living-Millionaire/dp/1118011570/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1507640907&sr=8-1&keywords=stop+acting+rich
Vodka, one of the few things that can be upgraded at home fairly simply. Run it through a carbon filter a couple of times (like a Britta filter). It’ll make it better, but still not as good as just spending more on a better vodka to start with. My personal recommendation on the price/value scale is Tito’s.
Luksusowa. But don’t listen to me, because I can’t tell a good from bad vodka.
My typical vodka is Skyy, because it didn’t taste like a plastic bottle.
Better: Kirkland (Costco) American Vodka, which is TIto’s but cheaper.
*this is not a statement about any of the brands mentioned so far, it was the first in my price range at the time that did not come in (and taste like) a plastic bottle.
Juvenile Bluster:
Unfortunately, all liquor over 21% ABV (42 proof) can only be sold at state liquor stores here in Ohio. Several of the large brands (Diageo brands and such) sell lower proof bottles of regular brand names at the grocery stores (such as Captain Morgan), which leads to some confused visitors to our state wondering why they can put down half a bottle of liquor in Ohio without an issue. This means we do not get Costco or Trader Joe’s liquor.
No one drinks vodka straight anyway (well, unless you’re actually Russian), so what’s the point of spending a lot of money on one? I’ll spend money on a quality whiskey because I’m not planning on hiding the taste with mixers. Not true with vodka.
No one drinks vodka straight anyway (well, unless you’re actually Russian)

Chipwooder: You haven’t seen people order extra-dry vodka martinis? Straight chilled vodka with an olive. I think the last time I did shots of straight vodka was for my 21st birthday, many years ago.
Even for mixing, there are differences, it’s not like club soda or most tonic waters are the most strongly flavored mixers.

This. It’s not uncommon for somebody to reference back to a conversation had weeks or months back. If I have anything worth adding, I will.
Only on my laptop, though. Navigating 700 comments on mobile is a PITA. (not a fault of the site… It’s a limitation of the technology)

Notice how the school never said “this appears to be a hoax/prank/misguided soul/whatever”. The local media had to dig it our of court records.
And this chick is fucking stupid. College admission standards are apparently at an all-time low. Poor, dear, sweet, dumb Abby thinks this is about self-hate and not a deliberate political statement to make white folks look bad:
I noticed that too. Abby apparently thinks “well, it must be a black Nazi then!”
After all, you could NEVER have another motivation for drawing a swastika. If you draw one, then you are a Nazi. Its the ONLY possible explanation. *puts fingers in ears* LA-LA-LA-LA-LA

47, 12 but most especially the girl on the right in 7.
If there’s more then one you need to take all of them cant pick and choose. Or find a friend to take one for the team
Hey, don’t have to twist my arm, I’ll take both!
Tough one, but 21 seems to work on many levels.

Damn. Nice set today

I was thinking a while back about the concept of dumping a game to get a lesser team into the World Cup. It is bad strategy. Since you won’t have a team from your confederation in your group (unless you are European), then you want someone who can potentially knock out a top club, making the playoff route easier.
Its actually a much tougher game theory question than that, as there are a couple of layers to think about and not knowing now what the bracket will look like. So I think the first order effects I mentioned above dominate.
I think it’s gotta be about the seeding in the WC draw so you want to place as highly as possible in your own Confederation.
There’s an outside chance Argentina, Italy and Holland won’t be in. Even them at half strength is still better than most of the teams on earth and STILL a threat to win a WC.
The Dutch need to win by 7 to finish 2nd in the group.
I am hoping they go for it.
They need a Dutch Jorge Campos “in goal”.
Tge variable you’re overlooking is the hatred for another team/country. Especially when that Country routinely beats you at the sport your nation is most passionate about but that falls about fifth innimportance to them. And also when you’re a third-world nation and they’re the very definition of extravagance and excess (in your eyes).
They’d throw a game to specifically keep us out. No way would they do it to any other team in the confederation. This is about envy and hatred of a nation that has things so much better than them (undeservedly, in their opinion).
I was going to bring up that factor, but the game theory was more interesting. Of course, both Mexico and Costa Rica would have to do it for it to work. And have the US lose to T&T. Or tie, if they are willing to completely tank.
Mexico selected an awfully strong squad for a team planning to tank. (And given that failed Mexican coaches are ritually sacrificed to the sun god, it would be a brave Mexico boss who threw a game for *any* reason, even screwing the Yanquis.)
As for the Ticos, they have a shot at rising into pot 2 – they’re not blowing that.
So I guess victim blaming is ok when the perp is a wealthy prog donor? I need to update my intersectionality chart.

Flat-earthers are definitely dumber. At least that one is easily disprovable.
Nibiru is just as easily disprovable, given the effects it would have on our planet and the fact that you’d probably be able to see it with the naked eye, or at the very least a cheap home telescope.

You know what?!? I think Lena is so full of shit that it’s pouring out of her ears.
Remember the date rape at the hands of Barry the campus republican? The one that didn’t happen (and if it did was at the hands of the son of an uberprog PBS producer?
Lena Durham is the child of privilege. Thanks to her parents the no talent ass-clown was given a show which people thought at first was so awful that it had to be a self-parody. Her book sucked. She has failed at everything she touches and keeps getting promoted. And she looks like a sack of flour especially compared to the beautiful and talented people aspiring to break into the biz.
My point is that
1) She didn’t need to kowtow to harrassment to get ahead – shit was handed to her on a platter.
2) She isn’t that desirable to the people who want to use their power to get sexual gratification
3) She is a fabulist who likes to paint herself as a victim too – whenever she sees people getting attention for their victim status.
Talk about a garbage human being.
You forgot:
4. She is unbelievably tedious and everything she says can be safely ignored.
But she’s an expert at sexual assault, what with having molested her sister for years and being so proud of it she wrote of it in her book.

Deloitte hack hit server containing emails from across US government
Exclusive: Cyber-attack was far more widespread than firm admits, say sources, with data from as many as 350 clients in compromised system
https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/oct/10/deloitte-hack-hit-server-containing-emails-from-across-us-government
The hack into the accountancy giant Deloitte compromised a server that contained the emails of an estimated 350 clients, including four US government departments, the United Nations and some of the world’s biggest multinationals, the Guardian has been told.
Sources with knowledge of the hack say the incident was potentially more widespread than Deloitte has been prepared to acknowledge and that the company cannot be 100% sure what was taken.
Deloitte said it believed the hack had only “impacted” six clients, and that it was confident it knew where the hackers had been. It said it believed the attack on its systems, which began a year ago, was now over.
However, sources who have spoken to the Guardian, on condition of anonymity, say the company red-flagged, and has been reviewing, a cache of emails and attachments that may have been compromised from a host of other entities.
The Guardian has established that a host of clients had material that was made vulnerable by the hack, including:
• The US departments of state, energy, homeland security and defence.
• The US Postal Service.
• The National Institutes of Health.
• “Fannie Mae” and “Freddie Mac”, the housing giants that fund and guarantee mortgages in the US.

*As an aside, I’ve been to a actual communist bookstore in communist East Germany, it sucked.*
A public library contains books no one wants to read, destroys other books by the dumpster load, restricts access to literature and is lorded over by a credentialist cabal that curates what is available based upon their own preferences.
I would say it doesn’t actually sell you books, but they do sometimes hold book sales to raise funds, and will let you just pay the replacement fee if you never bother to return one.
“Communism: It’s like libraries, but for everything else too.”
Somebody should tell them it’s been tried before. Many times. Some people even survived to tell stories about it.
Any pro-capitalist or anti-communist arguments are banned there IIRC.
And yet more people get their books from Amazon instead.
Stereotype that women are kinder and less selfish is true, claim neuroscientists
Reward system in female brains geared toward ‘prosocial’ behaviour, say researchers, but experts quick to dispute controversial findings
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2017/oct/09/stereotype-that-women-are-kinder-and-less-selfish-is-true-claim-neuroscientists
Would it not be easier to ban neurosciences? Save a lot of controversies. Then again this creates journalist jobs. They probably don’t get payed anything, but at least they are employed, keeps em off the streets. Unless that is where they sleep.
Retest for kindness to the group outsider and see how much it applies. Anyone who has ever seen women operate in groups of three or more knows that shit ain’t true.
That may be true, but the researchers are assigning a invalid value judgment to the concept of “prosocial”. For instance, I see gossiping and shit-talking as one form of “prosocial” behavior that most certainly is not kind or gentle.
Health is a well-known inequality issue. While ageing is inevitable and most of us will get sick at some point, the rate of your decline is likely to be faster the lower down the socioeconomic ladder you started.
The intriguing thing is, nobody exactly knows why. Tempting though it is to blame the usual suspects – poor diet, obesity, smoking – they don’t account for the whole story.
…
Now, researchers are using the same approach to measure the impact of social status on the body, in the hope of developing policies that can reduce the health toll on society’s most deprived section (on average, the poorest people in the UK miss out on more than a decade of life compared with the richest).
One of the most ambitious projects, currently being undertaken by the University of Essex’s Institute for Social and Economic Research (ISER), is looking at blood biomarkers from some of the 40,000 UK households taking part in its Understanding Society study, which covers the entire socioeconomic spectrum.
…
The impact of chronic stress
When we experience something stressful, we activate the “hypothalamic pituitary adrenal axis”: a convoluted network involving the brain and the pituitary and adrenal glands. This results in the release of cortisol and other stress hormones such as adrenaline, which have a range of effects on the body.
The complex biological conversation between this stress response and the body’s inflammatory processes actually damps down inflammation in the short term. But this careful balance seems to shift in the face of chronic stress, resulting in more inflammation over time. Thus the levels of CRP and fibrinogen, as markers of chronic inflammation, are a proxy for the impact of long-term stress on a person’s body.
https://www.theguardian.com/inequality/2017/oct/10/how-your-blood-may-predict-your-future-health-biomarkers
It’s all very well to be able to measure levels of inflammatory biomarkers, and link them to stress and worse health outcomes – but the big question is what to do about it.
More government, one would assume
A very good conversation to begin. Lets compare life expectancy in communist countries to that in non-communist countries.
When the USSR existed life expectancy there was equal to the retirement age in the US.
I mean finding ways to improve life is a worthy task, I am just pissed off it is constantly sidetracked by using this for government policy.
Stress kills without a doubt (look at how long Hef lived), but knowing the Guardian, of course the solution is Communism. Y’know that totally non-stressful system of government that encourages neighbors to spy on one another for any sign of wrongthink. That altruistic and noble practice of sending people to gulags for thinking the wrong thing. Not stressful in the slightest.
“the rate of your decline is likely to be faster the lower down the socioeconomic ladder you started”
My grandfather was born on a sustenance farm in 1919. He was healthy until his nineties and died at home at the age of 95. I don’t think you can get any further down the socioeconomic ladder than sustenance farming during the great depression.

Tesla in production hell…
A normal company would be beaten to death by investors.
Elon is so dreamy though.
How many of those monstrosities do they actually sell?
Tesla doesn’t sell cars. Tesla sells smug. The government buys a lot of smug from Tesla.

And that’s just the cars.
More pain in the pipeline.
I knew that solar roof tile was going to be a disaster from the start. What makes a good solar panel does not make a good roofing material. And when roofing materials go bad, the liability costs are huge.
Oh man, I had that argument with a Tesla fanboy on a football board I post at. This guy wets his pants in excitement whenever Musk blows his nose. Every time I asked him how he could be so sure that his solar roofs would be a “GAME CHANGER!!!!” when no one has any idea as to their durability, he would just post another paean to Musk’s overwhelming genius.
Same guy pulled the same act regarding the Model 3. Funny, I haven’t seen much from him on that subject in a while.
It’s hard to argue with True Believers.
SolarCity was just about toast when it ‘merged’ with Tesla. The business was and is retarded, but it was founded by Elon’s cousins so of course it couldn’t be allowed to go tits-up.
it was founded by Elon’s cousins
No shit. That’s almost unbelievable.
I really still don’t get TSLA’s market cap. It went down $13 on the news of production woes (only 3%!) and is already back up some this morning.
I can’t decide if this guy is a true believer or if this is part of a pump and dump scheme. https://www.forbes.com/sites/kenkam/2017/10/09/teslas-production-woes-fail-to-create-a-dip-big-enough-to-buy/
I really believe Tesla is a giant Ponzi scheme. Where Mr Ponzi was officially engaging in arbitrage buying and selling postage stamps, Tesla is officially producing cars. But, in both cases, the money ‘made’ from the official business was miniscule and in reality new investors were pouring money into a black hole.
If I were an investor, Tesla would be a stock that I would refuse to touch.
I become more and more convinced everyday that Musk is the reincarnated spirit of PT Barnum.
Landing the first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket was a real accomplishment.
Landing the first stage of a rocket is actually wasting payload capacity. The last fuel in any given stage gives the most dela-V per unit mass of that stage, and thus until they kick it off and switch motors, the most efficacy in getting the payload to orbit. To land the first stage they have to cut the engine early, separate and burn that fuel to set it back down. This means a recoverable rocket will have a lower payload capacity per pound of fuel. How many flights of fuel is that rocket motor actually worth?
See this: http://bgr.com/2017/07/11/spacex-news-reusable-rocket-discount/
That math doesn’t seem to add up. More flights at reduced lift capacities with the same fuel load just screams “Sure we’re losing money on every unit, but we’ll make it up in volume”.
Of course I don’t have the exact numbers to quantify that. But if the motors are only good for three flights anyway we’re back to the base equation.
Payload is usually billed by weight. Without better data on the price elacticity of demand for rocket payloads, we’ll have to work with the assumption that they can only charge the same market rate as the alternatives.
The maximum payload would be whatever they could launch if they discarded the motor and used all the fuel to get it to orbit. They still buy as much fuel whether they get the maximum payload or if they have to reduce the payload to conserve fuel to land the first stage. So a recovered first stage has higher costs in two ways – fuel not used for payload, and reduced income from smaller payload. This value would have to be less than two thirds the cost of the rocket motor to be worthwhile if they can get three flights per motor. Is it?
Elon Musk has got to be the best con man EVER.
My co-worker put down $1,000 on a Model 3, which just seemed stupid to me. She still thinks she’s going to get one before the end of the year. Sad!
There are so many electric cars already on the market for mid-range prices. What’s so special about Tesla? I suppose it is the smug.

D.B.: Where’s the financing to come from?
M.Y.: From many directions. Charity money can be a major source. Many are creating social business funds. Personal wealth can be an important source. Hedge funds or insurance funds, pension funds, could take 1 percent of their fund and invest it in social business, with no expectation of personal profit. You’d release enormous amounts of money.
D.B.: What do you say to business leaders who are interested?
M.Y.: Try it out. Use part of your wealth or corporate social responsibility money or foundation money to invest in social businesses. One may convene a design competition for businesses that address one of the sustainable development goals that you care about. You’ll get lots of business ideas. Pick one or two and start investing in them. Not for publicity purposes. Make sure it really solves people’s problems. You’ll also learn a lot about yourself by doing it.
Blah blah blah magic beans, spinning straw into gold, let me tell you about this goose I have…
A ton of health insurance providers are actually non-profit organizations, so “social business” is not really the silver bullet, is it wiseguy?
“non-dividend” companies “dedicated to solving human problems.”
Also known as non-profits – that’s basically the IRS definition of a nonprofit. This is hardly a revolutionary proposal.
Social Purpose Corporations and Benefit Corporations are already things. B corps are in 33 states, including Delaware.
Why does a charity need to pretend it’s a business?
If a business operates in a truly non-profit way (not this quasi way wherein they are actually for profit but cook the books to make themselves non-profit), where, praytell, are they going to get the capital to reinvest in newer and better products and services? Or adjust their business model to the prevailing needs of their market? Or motivate talented people to invest their time to innovation?
The difference between a non-profit and a for-profit is basically what they do with their net revenue. “Non-profit” doesn’t mean “we lose money every year”. It means “we reinvest our net revenues in our mission”.
Right, for-profit with some book cooking. Essentially the business model Amazon subscribes to, but they are at least honest enough to admit that they are for-proft.
Socialist mobsters. “Invest” in our “social business,” or bad things might happen to your legitimate business.
And the companies going along with this, even those explicitly doing it for publicity, can get fucked. Just because they promised to eat you last doesn’t mean they won’t eventually eat you. They probably won’t even save you for last.
The Catholic Church tried indulgences for years. They eventually stopped because people didn’t buy their bullshit anymore.

The sexiest women I have known never looked anything like that. They looked like natural women.

I agree with this, and I am not the biggest fan of what is usually in Qs links… But I try to comment to fit in, I am othered as it is as a non American. I must pretend to like what I think I called the other day the absurdly large breasts that seem to go well among your lot.

I don’t judge. People like what they like. Don’t know if it’s American thing or not, but it’s definitely a me thing. It’s been this way all my life, in fact I have a very early memory (4-5 years old?) of seeing Dolly Parton on TV and being utterly fascinated. This was way before puberty so it wasn’t an overtly sexual thing, but it definitely evolved into one as I got older. Freudian analysis aside, you do your thing, I’ll do mine.

World’s first sex doll brothel is being bombarded with requests for paedophile and rape sessions by twisted pervs, owner claims
I don’t know why this would be considered a problem at all; much better for them to act out their perversions with dolls than with real people. Don’t give me that “gateway drug” bullshit either.
It’s going to be funny to see vanguard progressive lefties contort themselves into pretzels trying to rationalize why pedos aren’t monsters, in fact they’re just as good as (or better than!) normal people… but why selling them dolls so they can safely, noncriminally act out their perfectly normal fantasies is monstrously wrong.
It’s the same argument as drug legalization. If drugs are legal, and limits on operating a vehicle under the influence (if you crash while high, you get a higher likelihood of presumption of fault) and you can go to the hospital if you OD without being arrested, less people would be harmed by drugs. If you allow a disgusting pervert to act out their fantasy with an inanimate object, rather than with a person (especially a person who will not understand nor consent to it), it is an unequivocal good, because you aren’t causing thousands of dollars in emotional damages (psych bills later in life), and hopefully breaking a cycle that likely began with the person with the fantasy being abused as a child.
Except they won’t.
Do you honestly expect philosophical consistency out of progressives? Remember for them it is all about Principles not Principals. They have no problems whatsoever demonizing anyone who is not useful to them as monsters so they can be perfectly at ease celebrating Bill Clinton even though the most charitable view of him puts him in the same category as todays Monster Du Jour Harvey Weinstein.
Defending pedophiles wins proggies nothing so they simply will not do it. They might defend an individual Pedo if that person helps the cause but you will see no full on defenses of pedos from progressives.
Where you will see it believe it or not is from libetarians who actually take nuanced views of things and believe that in general people should be held accountable for their actions and not their fantasies.
Its a problem for crypto-Marxist quasi-Puritans when their urge to degrade (pardon me, “fundamentally transform”) Western civilization conflicts with their urge to deny anyone, anywhere, pleasure.

See, now THAT’S a surprisingly smart play from Trump. The absolute last thing the NFL wants to see is a reexamination of their reliance on public money as well as their antitrust exemption.
I am not sure the NFL has an anti trust exemption. I am pretty sure Baseball is the only sport which does and that is why you periodically see attempts to start up competing football leagues
I am not sure the NFL has an anti trust exemption.
I see references to it, but not details. I think the NFL is set up a non-profit under the same provisions as trade associations, so it may get some antitrust relief there (but my vague recollection is that trade associations aren’t exempt).
They have a broadcasting exemption from Anti-trust. Basically, it allows them to unify as a league, even though they are competing teams, and negotiate broadcast rates as a league. That’s what the USFL (Trump’s league, remember) was not allowed to do, and along with mismanagment, lead to its failure.
Trump’s former Democratic rival in the 2016 presidential race, Hillary Clinton, also backed the players, saying in a speech on Monday, “They are protesting racism and injustice, and they have every right to do so.”
Only eleven months out from her humiliating defeat, at a time you’d think she’d have license to be as strategically unhinged and hyperbolic as possible, she’s still like a dose of political ambien. Does she think this shit lights a fire under anyone’s asses? Or that voters believe that narrative? Most people understand that police brutality and racism was Kaepernick’s schtick (and a cynical gambit, imo), and it was Trump’s condemnation that spurred on the wider response. But even if they buy into it on her terms, it’s such a snoozer statement. It’s sounds like a tired old woman making placating noises she doesn’t really care about or believe.
They are protesting racism and injustice, and they have every right to do so.
Indeed they do, on their own time and to the extent it does not conflict with their contracts.
Of course, the government shouldn’t try to shut them up, but nobody is proposing that they be arrested or fined.
Funny how firing people for SJW-defined badthink didn’t raise these concerns about rights, no?
Trumpitler calls for the government cash spigot be turned off for the NFL…
Haha, now about that anti-trust exemption…
ROOOOOOOSKEEEES!
“This is cultural hacking,” said Jonathan Albright, research director at Columbia University’s Tow Center for Digital Journalism. “They are using systems that were already set up by these platforms to increase engagement. They’re feeding outrage — and it’s easy to do, because outrage and emotion is how people share.”
Cultural appropriation! Obviously, every facebook user should be required to sign a loyalty oath.
You know who else made people sign loyalty oaths…

Lotta Judge hate Sloop. He did drive in two of the biggest runs last night, and he pulled back a 2 run homer that would have won the game Sunday.
Plus the strike zone against him has been absurd. Half of those Ks were looking, on pitches ranging from very borderline to “are you fucking kidding me with that shit?”
Whatever happens this postseason, the Yankees need to talk to the league in the offseason about the calls being made on Judge. Seems that more than a few umps have no idea how to call balls and strikes on him.
Ah, the rare “Double Gilmore”!
Yup, and theyve been especially bad this series.
“The strategies are no mystery,” said Michael Strangelove, a lecturer on internet culture at the University of Ottawa. “Foreign powers are playing within the rules of the game that we wrote.”

The Russians appear to have insinuated themselves across American social media platforms and used the same promotional tools that people employ to share cat videos, airline complaints and personal rants. Many of the posts on Being Patriotic also match pre-made, shareable graphics on sites like ConservativeMemes.com, nestled alongside other conservative content made for sharing on social media.
No alternative. Shut it down. For the
childrenpoliticians. They are still stuck on the muh Russia! I’d bet Hillary received more illegal votes than people who were swayed to Trump via Russian propaganda. People were so dug in on their sides there were few people on the fence between Clinton and Trump. Anyone on the fence was likely between establishment and independent candidates.
I want a list of all of the Hillary voters who were swayed into voting Trump by the Russians.
I bet it looks like this:
1….
2…..
Admit it Suthen. You were going to vote hillary before seeing russian memes.
Again, to quote Aydin Paladin: “you don’t need to pay Slavs to shitpost. They were born to shitpost, it’s in their DNA.”
The idea that Slavs aren’t just actively contributing to social media because they want to but because of some evil Russian government scheme is basically more hysterical than the Red Scare.
You say you want a revolution
Apologies if this was already linked, but it kind of cracked me up.
Righhhhhtttt /Dr. Evil
We’re not gonna take it no we ain’t gonna take it … no idea if that song called for revolution, havn’t heard it in a while.
If it did, it’s not in the Antifa sense of “revolution”. Dee Snider is solidly centrist with conservative leanings.
Not May 1?
Obama hardest hit.
I figured they’d wait till the 5th on account of V for Vendetta
I’m on the edge of my seat with excitement!
You say you’ve got a real solution
well, you know
we’d all love to see the plan
I think you can see a rough cut of the plan in those old concentration camp videos made in WW2.
I’m no expert at toppling governments, but I don’t think you are supposed to announce your coup publicly weeks in advance. It doesn’t seem like a winning strategy.
If it were me, I would just slowly push my vehicle thru that protest line. If they want to ride the hood, that’s okay.
if they fuck up my commute.. HULK RAGE
Hey, these guys are serious, they might even use fully-automatic ammunition.
It’s a Saturday. They’re not allowed to protest on school days.
Glad I don’t work in DC anymore.
A front group for the Revolutionary Communist Party USA has declared November 4, 2017, as the day their revolution to depose the “fascist Trump/Pence regime” begins.
Front group? Would that be Organizing for America?
Open Societies Foundation.
The ultimate oxymoron.
We should feel lucky it wasn’t the Communist Revolutionary Party and their crack suicide squad, then we’d be in real trouble
People were so dug in on their sides there were few people on the fence between Clinton and Trump. Anyone on the fence was likely between establishment and independent candidates.
Reading between the lines, in that story, it seems as if a significant part of the “disinformation campaign” was aimed at Democrats, and moving them away from Hillary toward either Bernie or Jill.
That Trump, he’s a crafty one.
I keep noticing people & companies (like Donna Karan & Dove amongst the links today) immediately apologizing after they goof-up in an advertisement or when stating their personal opinion on an issue. The public’s reaction to the apologies (including the reactions of some Gilbs I see) is usually something along the lines of “meh, what a half-baked apology, they’re just saying that because they have to.” In some cases, apologies don’t help at all, with the individual still losing their jobs, sponsors, etc.
If apologies don’t work, when will the popular thing become to just say “I’m not sorry, I meant what I said, fuck off.” This has to eventually flip around where it actually works in the company’s/individual’s favor to not apologize when they don’t toe a particular line.
I would be more likely to respect someone and listen to them more often, even if I disagree with them, if they actually forego the apology route and just say “yeah, I mean what I say.” I think this was one of the main appeals of Trump, but for some reason this method of dealing with controversy has not gained more traction.
The Dove ad that got everyone worked up was deceptively edited to piss people off. Here’s the whole thing:
https://youtu.be/GJssvw1LQbI
No apology needed really.
They did apologize though, instead, they should’ve said “you took it out of context, we’re saying that our products work for the full spectrum of skin tones, fuck off.”
You’re right, that is what they should have said. Instead they caved and copped to something they didn’t do. SJWs tend to be forgiving though so I’d imagine the company will come out ahead.
I think FIFA had an anti racism add with men and women of all sorts of colours taking shirts off and transforming… that seems similar
I may be thinking this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iTeNictJxMw
The director fucked up. If the sequence had been white to brown to yellow, no one would have complained.
At least quit apologizing for cynical efforts by morally vacuous people to capitalize on the ignorance and vapidity of perpetually-indignant Twitter activists. Dove was in no way at fault for their ad being dismantled and spun by racialist liars, and they should have said so. Full stop. If you want an apology, ask for it from the propagandists or their idiot enablers who retweeted their horseshit into a national story. And don’t apologize for their being offended. That gambit is worse than useless: to appeases nobody. Permaggrieved lefties aren’t about to put away their knives after you obliquely call out their bullshit with a nonpology, and now you’ve raised the dander of people like me who just want to see the propagandists force-fed their lies back down their throats, along with their teeth.
Dove already panders to that mindset with other ads. They just got hoisted by their own retard. It’s hard to feel sorry for them.
“Celebrate real (fatty) bodies!”
Opie & Anthony used to bits about all the fake apologies out there (including their own).
-Babylon 5
Great show, and one of the best fake apologies ever.
I miss the old show (well, not so much Opie). I’ve heard some clips of the Jim & Sam show since Ant was allowed back into the studio as a guest, and it’s a breath of fresh air after years of mediocrity (and that goes for both Ant’s Compound Media show and the previous Opie and Jimmy iteration). Norton and Cumia have great chemistry, and imo Sam is a much better show corraler than Opie ever was.
Anyway, Jimmy nails it here.
I was gonna say the same exact thing.
If XM/Sirius could work a deal to bring Ant back, I’d pick them back up.
Me too. Put Anthony, Jimmy, and Ron Bennington on the same show and name your price.
I haven’t heard much of Ron, but the bit he did screaming at o&a intern David was priceless.
If apologies don’t work, when will the popular thing become to just say “I’m not sorry, I meant what I said, fuck off.”
Personal integrity and intellectual consistency are not admirable qualities in the woke-o-sphere, silly.
There’s an entirely ignored market outside of the woke-o-sphere that I think actively gives credit to people that won’t apologize for saying how they feel. I think that market is what the NFL is re-discovering right now, as people get upset about the woke people protesting the anthem as a round-about way to say something about police violence.
The ‘no bullying allowed’ culture has given everyone amnesia. In the old days we knew how to handle bullys.
It’s not bullies anymore. It’s bucket dippers.
Try to keep up.
So while the dweeby kid is getting his ass kicked he can cry about his bucket getting emptied. Seems like an effective way to counter bullying.
If I could only see your bucket, I’d fill it up.
Drank a few bucketloads last night and ought to put the result to good use.
Seriously though, this is just a low-rent Rainbow Fish knock-off.
Ugh, this is painful to read/look at. The teacher that probably put this together is probably the same one that says “if you’re in a fight, just run or call for help. Don’t fight back”
When I was in middle school, they addressed the topic of bullying in gym class. A couple of people had recently been jumped after school hours and I asked “if someone or a group of people have you cornered, is it okay to fight back?”
They told me “no, you will be suspended for fighting. Find a way out, run and call for help.”
Its learned helplessness. Always depend on authority figures, you can’t do anything yourself. If you do, you will be punished for it.
“I’d like to put my dipper in your bucket.”
Mental image probably not what the teacher had in mind.
Woman posts picture kissing her kid.
I just got back from 16 days in France, visiting rellies and generally eating myself into a coma. If the precious assholes who freaked out at this picture ever visit France, they’ll have a nuclear meltdown. Adult parents kissing their adult kids, both in “air-kiss” style and even on the lips! Cats and dogs living together! WOAH!
Cats and dogs living together!
This world has gone to shit.
It’s France. It’ll never catch on here.

Top Men
A recent paper by economists from the University of Illinois, the University of Quebec, the University of Lausanne and the University of Utah suggested that there were too many American cities and that they were inefficiently small.
Adapting to these sorts of changes will require something different than reviving the industries of old. Smaller metropolitan areas might try plugging into the economic orbit of more successful larger cities. They might try to become innovations hub, by, say, drawing large teaching hospitals.
And yet the future for the residents of small-city America looks dim. Perhaps the best policy would be to help them move to a big city nearby.
I’m convinced.
I mean, the line of reasoning about how technically savvy information workers can only be successfully utilized if they are herded into concentrated groups in cities is utterly self-evident and incontestable.
Look, this writer lives in New York. New York is a big city. He has it all figured out. Everyone should live in a big city. QED motherfucker.
Big cities are an abomination. Small cities provide a much better flexibility between having a sufficent economic mass to do interesting things and not being so large they suck all the will to live out of their residents by sheer mass.
>they were inefficiently small
Of course they are. That’s the whole point of zoning laws. If people couldn’t make better use of their land, there would be no need to outlaw doing so.
“University of Utah”
I got my degree in econ there. Anyone from there is almost guaranteed to be a Marxist.

Awesome. Awesomely pathetic, that is.
And now this song is stuck in my head.
Amazing the atrocities that are committed in the name of State Capitalism.

no mention of the draft?
After reading Ronan Farrow’s Weinstein article (who knew he would do something useful with his life after sucking on the taxpayer teat at the State Dept?) it’s clear that Weinstein is a fucking whiny, begging, desperate, man-child. Like, holy fuck, he’s so goddamn WHINY. Little bitch.
And if you read Farrow’s article, you’ll see that at least one person did report him, and there are significant reasons most didn’t say anything (like the majority sexual assault victims).
And it certainly sounds like Vance had plenty of evidence to charge him with sexual assault, and yet he didn’t.
The $10k campaign donation didn’t hurt.
So, the thesis is that Weinstein’s idea of foreplay is 3 hours of begging?
3 hours of (((begging))).
The Dems have a fever, and the only prescription is to PROG HARDER!
This was an amusing sentence:
What does “racially conservative” mean?
Not racially obsessive wokeness pod people.
IOW normal.
It means “we all get along on a daily basis with our colleagues and neighbors and don’t really give two fucks about your identity politics”
They don’t accept identity politics idiocy or are even aware of it.
It’s a nice way to say “country-ass raciss hicks took our ‘lection!”
California has 55 electoral votes, Wyoming has 3. It would take 19 Wyomings to cancel out 1 California.
STFU already with this “outside influence” bullshit.
outsize, outside, they’ve got both narratives going…
I smell players’ strike in the air…
required to stand? that’s creepy. i’d support a requirement to sing along.. but only for the lulz.
Been inevitable since Goodell named himself the arbitrator in the Tom Brady case. Realized they have absolutely no contract restraints on the league when it comes to arbitrary discipline.
From the responses:
“We have been steadily losing it for many years. Now that they have control, they will try to wipe it all out. We have to fight if we don’t want to see it disappear. This is progressing rapidly and the groups hurt will be PoC, LGBT and “intellectuals”.”
#RESIST
This one of the most vague things I have ever read. What is the “it” that’s being lost? Who is “they”? Who is “we”? What is “this”?
Who knows? I guess we’re not woke enough to get it.
Unintentionally accurate scare quoting
Kind of sad seeing Adrian Peterson’s career go downhill like this. I understand he didn’t suit the Saints’ offense, but damn. He’s one of the greatest RBs of all time.
He’s a fuckhead. I have to admit I’m enjoying him embarrassing himself (again).
Besides the only Viking RB that matters is Chuck Foreman.
False. Robert Smith matters too.
The guy who ran out of bounds?
I’m sure Chuck Foreman fucked up a time or two also.
DON’T YOU SAY BAD THINGS ABOUT 44!
What about Onterrio “The Whizzinator” Smith?
I wouldn’t say it’s “going downhill”. More like a normal career arc. Running back’s tend to hit a wall in their late 20s/early 30s. Still, it was one hell of a career. In a passing league, he reminded us of the value of a great running back. In his prime, he was the best running back of my generation. A certified piece of shit as well, but one hell of a running back.
You know who should get more love?
Frank Gore
He’s a 34 yr old running back who’s been good to great for 12 years running.
I think he went to #7 on the all time list this week-end.
Millennials don’t know about Pink Floyd.
Then this will give them nightmares.
I dunno – they look like Top Men to me!
Bob Geldolf — The Hitler of Humanitarians?
Cucked by Michael Hutchence so probably not.
You mean this guy?
Looks like my work done blocked that site.
Spoiler: It is a Floyd the Barber pink t-shirt.
Is the whole fucking world supposed to reorient itself to allow for their monumental ignorance?
It’s a good thing they don’t know about Pink Floyd. I’m sure they’d think the whole thing was racist . . .
“Are there any queers in the theater tonight?
Get ’em up against the wall
That one looks Jewish!
And that one’s a . . . !
There’s one smoking a joint
And another with spots
If I had my way, I’d have all of you shot!”
But the worst of it isn’t that a work against that sort of bigotry and prejudice becomes racist because it’s now associated with Trump’s wall.
The worst is that there doesn’t seem to be any awareness with them that anything existed or had meaning before Millennials came along and discovered it.
If a tree falls in a forest and no Millennial was there to hear it, then you’re a racist.
Rose McGowan is out to destroy Weinstein and his minions. It’s awesome to behold.
Matt Damon’s on her shitlist.
sorry, that should be…
MAAAATT DAAAAMON
We had a long discussion about this yesterday.
She referred to him as “my rapist” in a post somewhere, but I’m not sure it’s been made certain that he raped her.
Rape can mean different things to different people these days. I’ve seen people accuse men of raping them for lying about their incomes–saying that if they’d known he was poor, they never would have slept with him.
What can be said for sure is that Weinstein is Leisure Suit Larry on the casting couch.
He’s a slimy scumbag.
If he raped her, it’s a completely different story.
She’s been very clear that he raped her. Totally unequivocal.
What someone quoted last night was a tweet, I believe, in which she said something about her husband having a script accepted by her rapist.
It wasn’t clear to me if she was saying that he raped her or if she was insinuating that he attempted to “rape” her by offering her a roll on the casting couch for a role in a Tarantino movie or something (Tarantino did Death Proof outside Weinstein’s company).
Some people would call various things rape or attempted rape–even if the “rapist” said no and no sex occurred. I’m sure there are plenty of women who would characterize a producer that did the things he did to other actresses as attempted rape.
Is that what happened?
I don’t know. All I’ve ever seen about this is one person alluding to one tweet.
There was a settlement that ended with an NDA–and no charges filed.
What we know for sure is that Weinstein was an aggressive jackhole to these women, and a smarmy one at that.
I was amused by the NYT writeup on this. Some name actresses are starting to say that he “harassed” them by trying to get them on the casting couch. Naturally, they all turned him down but got the roles anyway. *insert eyeroll here* Sure, sweetie. When you were one of a hundred no-name wannabes, you got the role after you turned him down.
Who the fuck is Rose McGowan and why should I care?
She’s an actress that was raped (wording deliberate) by Harvey Weinstein.
That post above was put under the wrong comment.
This one should go under the comment above–Weinstein isn’t being destroyed.
He and his brother still own 42% of the stock in Weinstein Entertainment, not to mention their interests in other production vehicles they’ve accumulated over the years going back to Miramax.
I seriously doubt they “fired” him without his permission, and he’ll still be chasing movie deals regardless of whether he’s officially an employee with a salary. Whatever salary he was getting is nothing compared to his ownership interests in the production company.
I mean, his only marketable talent is making low budget blockbusters.
I can’t imagine any talent being any more desirable in Hollywood. He’s not going anywhere.
I said “she’s out to destroy him”, and I am enjoying watching it. For a pedant, you sure do miss a lot.
I know.
I just wanted to make it clear that people think that justice has been done to this guy–but nothing has happened to him really other than being publicly shamed.
Being forced to resign publicly and lose a token salary is . . . better, for him, than having to spend the day at the DMV.
Marilyn Manson’s old girlfriend.
Like Dita Von Teese
Googling Dita’s name might not be SFW.
