Sorry, sometimes I really get into those characters. Fritz Freleng and Joe Dougherty were inadvertent geniuses. What puzzled me was that Porky always had a jacket on, but no pants. Was Porky really the proto-Louis CK? Did he jerk it for Tweety Bird, promising her Hollywood fame if she went along? Anyway, what’s in the news today?

OK, if this is really a Weapon of Mass Destruction, then in my Boy Scout days, I was guilty of this crime a few hundred times.

Team Red has a lose-lose situation on their hands and they don’t quite know what to do about it. My suggestion: lose. Chaos and gridlock is the best thing a libertarian can realistically hope for.

I’m shocked, SHOCKED that a self-righteous asshole might have sexual skeletons in his abandoned closet. Schadenfreude alert! I can only hope and pray that Bill Nye is next.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present you the modern MTA.

Start your Preet Bharara jokes now. Hmmm, I also wonder if Preet’s next in line for a sex scandal… nah, that would mean owning an actual penis.

And in this week’s installment of Old Guy music, something even a bit older than I am, archaic, entertaining, complex. And casually amazing talent and skill. I want that suit.

      Disqualified.

      1. The Elite Elite

Why? There have been plenty of posts just declaring first. Why’s mine disqualified?

        1. OMWC is a hard man. We just take his rulings.

          1. The Elite Elite

No one else had to this week. Go look at all those morning links threads and tell me there are no posts just declaring first with a first gif.

          2. Lemme give you a little advice: two eggs, over easy with cracked black pepper and adobo. Dusted with freshly geared parmaigiano reggiano.

I’m making breakfast shortly so I will try that. Mine will be with peppered bacon, toast, and milk

            Good call Pomp. Yummy

  2. No, transit officials “don’t want to offend anyone,” as one MTA worker summed it up.

That’s always a concern in New York City. Hahahahaha.

  3. The MTA needs to worry about the trains running on time. Has there been anyone who got the trains to run on time?

You just made my brain form an image of Olbermann nude. You fucking owe me.

Team Red is not in a lose-lose situation. They need to stand by Moore and loudly declare Innocent Until Proven Guilty! Seriously, will the GOP throw everyone under the bus if women come out saying “40 years ago X raped/molested/harassed me!” Have you morons learned nothing? How many fucking stories about false rape/assault accusations must we hear before it finally sinks in? By dumping Moore you tell the Democrats that this shit works, which means you’ll get more of it! Get a fucking clue GOP!

    1. I’ve got a quandary for anyone that thinks GOPe strategy of not standing by Moore is the better tactic: Kiss of death Mittens Romney injects his corpse into the situation.

      *EDIT FAIRY SHOWS YOU FAVOR*

      1. Cool link, bro.

      2. The Elite Elite

Of course. Romney and McCain are both saying he just just fuck off, no matter if the allegations are true or not. “Well, these allegations are really serious! So, of course he should drop out.” McCain raped me when I was seven years old twenty years ago! Well, that’s a serious allegation. Guess McCain better resign. Fucking morons. God, this whole issue just gets my blood boiling.

        1. Brochettaward

McCain’s been accused in the past. It’s how he knows exactly what Moore should do.

          1. Stinky Wizzleteats

Doing the opposite of what McCain and Romney advise is usually a good thing to do.

          2. Drake

McCain has been accused – with far more evidence – of messing with campaign workers. He also really did take big campaign contributions from Charles Keating in return for trying to keep regulators off his back during the S&L meltdown.

McCain’s a dirty piece of shit and the more he’s around, the more I believe the stories from other POW’s about his collaboration with the commies.

        2. Drake

And Flake. All the cucks and Rinos are going after a conservative.

    2. leonadasiv

I think the issue is that the GOP isn’t going that but defending the actions themselves (e.g “it’s not illegal”, “someone else did it”)

    3. Viking1865

You’re assuming that the RINOs actually want Moore elected. They do not.

There’s 3 parties in the Senate. There are Democrats, RINOs, and Republicans. When the RINO lost the GOP primary, the media came up with this hit job on Moore, and McCain and McConnell were primed and ready to play the statesmen.

It’s an op, from start to finish.

      1. Drake

This – and people are seeing through it.

  6. Did he jerk it for Tweety Bird, promising her Hollywood fame if she went along?

Tweety is a he. Way to other him, you cishetero shitlord.

    1. MikeS

      That’s what I thought, too.

    2. Rhywun

      “I tawt I taw a pussy.”

      Yep, male.

  7. George Takei touched my junk liberally. he strapped me in to his yellow beanbag chair and he couldnt keep his offensive hands off of me. he was performing many red flag touches. i couldnt believe what the fuck was going on. i told George Takei the city would not approve of a millionaire touching a young homo for free.

can you believe it? George Takei did all this. he picked me off the street, strapped my arms and legs down in the condo’s beanbag chair, and just wouldn’t stop fondling my cock’n’balls.

they definately were red flag touches. the goddamn referee he had behind the chair kept on raising up this red flag every time he touched my junk but did George Takei care? NO WAY! he just kept on doing it. I couldn’t believe what the fuck was going on, indeed. I pleaded with batman but to no avail. I told him the city would not approve of such a wealthy man touching an underage kid like me (at the time I was 23) without at least compensating me for the trauma and the use of my body as his own personal plaything.

this got to him, worrying about his image. he continued to fondle me, all the while ignoring the referee’s red flags. then he took the beanbag chair to the door and ejected the seat i was in! it was amazing. but surprisingly, after I woke up the next morning, my bank account had $150k in it!!! Can you believe it?????????????????????????

    3. westernsloper

Were you wearing your bling jeans? I think Pomp may have been asking for it by the way he was dressed.

    4. I actually sat next to George Takei on an airplane once, for about two hours. He never touched my junk, nor even attempted to. Should I be disappointed or pleased?

      1. commodious spittoon

        Yes.

      2. Show us on the doll where George Takei didn’t touch you.

        1. So, basically just show you the entire doll, then.

  8. leonadasiv

    Nice links.

So yesterday at work, I actually got frustrated with a Co-worker, which is unusual, as I usually don’t get political and ignore politics of my co-workers. But he was taking about how he was reading Nassim Talib book that started that all rich people “think they deserve their money, but they were just lucky”. Apparently he specifically cites Bill Gates. As someone who has run businesses, including failed ones, it’s much more hard work and prudence. It just pissed me off to realize that the majority of people never have and never will run a business and that a hot chunk of them think that it’s just good luck than makes a good business. I challenged him on it. I said, if it’s your luck, why do don’t companies and individuals consistently do well (e.g Warren Buffet). To which he replied that even Warren Buffet had some losses, as if that proved it was all luck.

*Edit Fairy hopes your daughter is better*

    1. It just peed my of yo

Maybe have your doctor look at it?

      1. leonadasiv

        Pissed me off to realize…

Daughter was up all night sick, that’s my excuse today.

        1. Count Potato

          I hope she’s feeling better.

    2. the majority of people never have and never will run a business and that a hot chunk of them think that it’s just good luck than makes a good business.

*uck Schumer went from law school straight to running for the State Assembly and has been a legislator ever since — 43 years now, with no end in sight.

    3. Ask him if he eats at bad restaurants, uses cleaning products that done’t work or goes to a mechanic that cannot fix things.

Oh, so there may be something other than luck involved?!!

    4. Brasidas

But he was taking about how he was reading Nassim Talib book

Should have just zoned out at this point.

Taleb can make some interesting points, but I usually try to take what he says and dial it down from 11.

*Edit Fairy Reminds you – “em” instead of “i”*

      1. leonadasiv

Yeah. He has some good ideas, sometimes, in some areas. Mostly in investment, where I’m most likely to agree that there is a lot of luck involved, but even luck can’t account for Warren Buffets.

        1. Warren Buffet is a crony capitalist.

          1. leonadasiv

True, I don’t like the guy, but I use him as the exception that questions the rule.

      2. Brasidas

        Damned i tags.

      3. Rufus the Monocled

I read Black Swan. It started out really well and then….holy shit. I couldn’t make sense of it and struggled to finish it.

But Hegel is still the worst.

    5. straffinrun

If that’s what he got out of Talib’s book, I don’t think he read it carefully. I’ve only read parts of his work and have never seen him say that.

    6. Rufus the Monocled

They think it’s luck AND that businesses exploit or engage in illegal activities.

Someone once said to me that was interesting when I first opened my business and was struggling. He said, ‘You’ll be fine. See it through. Always remember these days of blood, sweat and tears because people will never know this. They will just judge you on the success part and be envious.’

      Progressivism in a nutshell.

      1. AlexinCT

You expect their envy driven nonsense to acutally be based on some kind of logic, facts, or reality? Shit, Rufus, you are going to end up disappointed. That is why I most of the time just call them out for being shitbags, because no logic or reason will penetrate their thick skulls and push out the envy driven nonsense they want to pretend is the reason they are losers and others are not.

    7. Akira

I know this is not an iron law by any means, but most “progressives” I know in real life have never held a supervisory or managerial position. I’m not saying that the jobs they hold are unimportant or easy, but they don’t seem to understand the massive amount of work that goes on above their heads. They just think that all the higher-ups are just sitting around with their feet up on the desk all day.

They frequently go on rants about how much CEOs and executives get paid and insist that they don’t deserve it. I try to explain to them that they’re providing a service, and businesses must place a very high value on that service. Someone who can look at a company’s operations and correctly determine the direction they should take is a crucial part of any business. I don’t get it – do they think that every single board of directors is just duped into massively overpaying the person they choose to run the company?

They hate high-level businesspeople who provide useful goods and services, but of course, they verge into idolatry when it comes to lefty politicians like Obama, and they insist that the entire country would collapse if not for their wise and benevolent decision-making.

    8. Listening to an exhaustive Walt Disney biography. Guy worked his ass off (until practically becoming ill) to build his business. It shames me every time I listen to how little work I feel like I’ve done in my life.

  9. leonadasiv

Got summoned for jury duty. I’m actually interested in seeing if I get selected, though I know my views on somethings are sure to get my thrown out.

    1. The Elite Elite

So far I’ve received a jury summons every year except one after I turned 18. I’ve only had to go in for one of them. Didn’t get selected.

      1. leonadasiv

This is my first time, got to go in on Monday.

Speaking of jury summons, Obama being summoned. I’d think that if I were the lawyers I wouldn’t select him. He’d distract from the case.

        1. Private Chipperbot

Why, yes, i have heard of jury nullification.

That wasn’t the question Mr. Leon.

          1. leonadasiv

Exactly. I hate how nullification has been somewhat eradicated because judges will threaten jurors.

          2. AlexinCT

I no longer get called in the People’s Republic of Connecticut and it has been a while now as I always seem to be dropped from the list of people they need to come in, because I told the judge once I did not care if she told me our progressive state would not allow nullification. The constitution does, and I would love the chance to make a few tens of millions off the other idiots paying taxes in this shithole.

Then again, I have not had a single traffic ticket stick for over 2 decades because I made sure to have the state spend a few thousand dollars to collect. I made sure that I didn’t just plead and pay, actually went to court for a couple of tickets that were under $100 back when, and kept everyone there for over an hour each time. The judge especially liked it when I pointed out the system was not for our safety like he claimed, but to feed the ever growing government machine, on the second trip. After that they simply send me a latter saying that they are dropping the ticket since I pled not guilty.

          3. DOOMco

            10/10 will try.

          4. Brasidas

            No! No! No!

Jury nullification? What’s that? Oh! Why I never! I will always do exactly as the judge says and never deviate from that at all. Big letter of the law type here!

            Then you nullify.

          5. leonadasiv

From my understanding, a judge doesn’t take kindly to a juror who doesn’t submit.

          6. juris imprudent

            50 shades of your honor?

          7. Nephilium

That’s why you don’t let them know about it. Once you’ve rendered the verdict, there’s nothing the judge can do about it (I’m sure that if I’m incorrect here one of our crack legal eagles will correct me).

          8. Criminal case….you go free. Judge can void a conviction if there is evidence of jury misconduct.
Civil…if it is apparent the jury did not follow the instructions, the judge (in most jurisdictions) can override – used to be called Judgment N.O.V (judgment non obstante veredicto, judgement not withstanding the verdict) I think it is now called Judgment as a matter of law, or such.

  10. leonadasiv

“OK, if this is really a Weapon of Mass Destruction, then in my Boy Scout days, I was guilty of this crime a few hundred times.”

    1. SimonD

I think these are probably real, especially since it started before the raging me-too-ism. If they turn out to be true, there is no punishment too severe for sexually abusing a child who you have power over.

In fact, I propose that SugarFree design the sentence for this guy.

    2. Viking1865

It’s the age old issue with adults working with children.

More than 99% of adults who work with children do it because they like kids, they want to be a positive influence, to help kids.

The less than 1%, they’re in it because working with kids gives you unfettered access to kids and to trusting parents.

I worked with kids for a decade. I never understood how some of these sick fucks make it to trial. If I had ever walked into a “Jerry Sandusky in the shower” situation, it would have been close casket funeral, not expensive public trial.

There is an episode where Porky Pig gets Daffy Duck a present. Daffy Duck keeps trying to find out what it is. “I hate not knowing”. That is so me.

Anyone know the name of the episode?

    1. I do. I would tell you what it is, but I want it to be a surprise.

      1. Troy

        You guys suck.

        So my second question….

There is a drink called a french toast. I think it had kaliua or baileys. Surely there are enough drunks to br able to answer. What are the ingredients.?

I think it’s interesting that they use the phrase ‘so-called Islamic State’. Do they use the phrase ‘so-called People’s Republic of China’?

The modern left has made me cynical. I notice most of the little biases now, when I didn’t care enough to notice them before. I think I could hate the Left just for that alone.

      1. AlexinCT

The supposedly modern left made me cynical back in the mid eighties when I heard Ted Kennedy actually went to the Russians and asked them to help him beat Reagan in the 1984 elections. The media ignored that story as well, and it wasn’t until much later, when the USSR collapsed, and the documentation proving it came out. The press then did the same thing they do today: cover the story….. with a pillow, and smother it until it died.

The left has always been about making sure that if they didn’t have power and shit like this.

  14. straffinrun

I’ve got a friend that is a stand up comic. He’s getting roasted by other comics for using the “N” word in his routine because he’s white. He’s the most liberal of all liberals and he’s never let me forget this fact. But…. He’s getting ass fucked now by the prog “comedians” that he thought were his friends. Here’s his explanation:

“I used (see past tense) “nigger” while doing a character, Bill Belichick as a slave owner to show the inherent racism in the NFL. Guess that makes me a racist in the eyes of the SJW’s. I used the word “faggot” to show racist gays their (and yes, many of them exist) hypocrisy when fighting for their rights. “Pussy” is more hurtful than it used to be, so I’m trying to use it less, but if it fits the misogynistic character I’m trying to call out I use it. Your sarcasm toward the people who have actually been foot soldiers for social justice only pushes us away. It’s completely self-defeating for you guys. So is censoring someone who is legitimately on your side. Did you, or any of the other people that jumped on me, even bother to look at my posts in the past? Or get to know me at all? No. It was way easier to judge, search, and attempt to destroy.”

I like the guy. He’s a 60’s type liberal that I’ve found common ground with on many issues. He’s getting crushed on social media. Waddayado?

    1. Brochettaward

      Get your popcorn ready?

    2. juris imprudent

Point him to the story of Vsevolod Balytsky.

      1. straffinrun

That’s harsh. He’s over 30 posts in trying to essplain hisself. It’s making me ill.

        1. Rufus the Monocled

He has to do what Di Paolo does whenever someone says ‘not nice!’

He tells them to fuck themselves.

Re the word nigger. Another example of how the ‘party of science and reason’ ignores context, scale and perspective. With that out of the way, they can go straight to pearl clutching emotions.

          1. straffinrun

He’s no where near being the type of guy that tells these cock suckers to blow themselves. It really is a late French Revolution type scenario.

          2. Rufus the Monocled

Then there’s nothing he or you can do. Let the reactionary forces purge each other.

It sucks for him but again, he foolishly went along with the superficial Marxist driven narratives and realized it ain’t about justice at all. It truly is an intellectual gulag the progressive SJW movement.

          3. straffinrun

What I’ll do is wait. If he sticks his head out for a second, I’ll be there to lend him a hand. I’m not, however, getting in the middle of that feeding frenzy.

          4. Rufus the Monocled

Exactly be his Virgil to Dante.

            Lead him to Beatrice.

    3. Nephilium

Use it as an educational moment?

    4. Rufus the Monocled

      Nothing. He chose that side.

Now he has to smarten up and come hither.

He doesn’t have to go full Nick Di Paolo or Dennis Miller but he needs to ditch that evil side. They eat their own and it’s not pretty.

    5. MikeS

So is censoring someone who is legitimately on your side.

This line bothers me. It implies it’s OK to censor someone who isn’t “on your side.”

    6. “Waddayado?”

Tell him to enjoy living in the world he helped create.

This is another one of these borderline cases. Is it skeezy? Yes. Is it weird? Yes. But if you ask masseuse “how about a little extra attention on the front side?” and she says “We’re not that kind of massage parlor.” and you say “sorry, no offense” is that really a sexual assault?

The progs continue to REEEE about having a sexual predator in the White House, and my go to line: “90s reboots are all the rage these days.”

          1. westernsloper

I believe the first masseuse claimed Gore groped her. That is a bit over the line if true. Who knows if it is true, but it was hardly covered is the point I think.

  18. We can all agree that the #metoo nonsense waters down and trivializes real cases of rape and assault. Theory: could this be a deliberate and coordinated attempt to take the heat off of Weinstein? He is a big time Dem; not just one of these Dem by habit Hollywood douchebags, but a real mover and shaker. The guy may as well be part of the DNC with the amount of money and influence he wields within the party. Clearly, creepy behavior (butt grabbing, awkward pickups, Louis CK bizarre masturbation fetishes etc.) is part and parcel of life in Hollywood. But I don’t think any of it qualifies as rape or assault. It seems a bit convenient that after Weinstein starts getting crucified for very serious stuff (ie: actual forcible rape) all these decades old allegations of relatively minor stuff starts coming out. Given Hollywood’s incestuous relationship with the Dems, I find it very plausible that the party already had all this dirt and decided to start shoveling it around as a distraction from their Big Fish. Thoughts?

There are multiple products similar to this. One of our customers purchases some of the oil we make for making an actual lubricant. Generally speaking we use the same oil for when we make caplets and those tend to produce a nice body high similar to the effects described without much of the psychoactive high. It’s really about dosage though. I’ve done some product testing with the lube and it works quite well for giving that nice body high and enhancing the experience. Our customer’s lube also works well for anal.

My experience has been that cannabis use of nearly any type will work to give the effects described by the Foria FAQ. Whether it is smoking, edibles, lubes, or otherwise. The delivery method is the gimmick with this one.

  20. dbleagle

I find More’s political views to be an anathema to our Constitutional Republic and am confused that a jurist removed from the bench for unconstitutional acts would be considered a viable contender to sit in the Senate. (I know, I know. What about 95+ of the sitting Senators?) If the gods punished me by making me an AL resident I would not be voting for either of the two leaders in the race. The fact that More’s friends are defending his dating girls because Joseph married Mary even though she was younger (and pregnant) seems not be be a defense of “he didn’t do it”but of “it’s acceptable to the bible.”

But Elite has a point. At least one of the accusers is a Dem Party apparatchik and the proof of the primary accuser is less than watertight. The timing also stinks since this could have easily been made public before the primaries. The Dem Party and media (but I repeat myself) are displaying rank hypocrisy saying More should drop out when they supported JFK, T Kennedy, B Clinton, H Clinton, FDR…… from more egregious acts because they held the right thoughts for the time. Make the accusers prove the actions More is accused of. Either outcome is good. Either the story blows up and the MSM is further discredited-or- More is found to have been a creep who wants to use the power of the state to enforce his religious views on others while excusing his own behavior.

    1. Brochettaward

I refuse to click the link, but CNN currently has Tapper asking a GOP official if he’d vote for a pedophile over a Democrat. They are proud of this line of questioning.

One comparison I find interesting is how quickly the mainstream right blacklisted an increasingly more respectable Milo over talking about his own experiences as a younger teen sleeping with an older man.

      1. If you haven’t already, read Dangerous. He is a smart cookie and should be embraced by liberty lovers even if his methods are a bit outrageous. I think he’d fit right in over here.

      2. The correct answer, of course, is “No, I would not.” Then, clasp your hands together and smile pleasantly.

        1. RBS

          Or “What’s the difference?”

    2. Interesting that, while in his early 30’s, he supposedly molested one 14 year-old girl (without actually having sexual intercourse with her), and, by their own accounts, accounts acted like a gentleman with the three other of-age teenagers he dated.

Afterwards, he molested no one else, and dated no other teenagers.

Interesting, that he is being labelled a “pedophile”. I’m pretty sure my wife’s great-grandparents got married when they were teenagers.

Maybe people think it is weird that a thirty-year old was interested in teenagers. I would bet these same people have “barely legal” porn sites among their bookmarked pages. The only difference, I guess, is that Moore was apparently looking for a mate, rather than a quickie.

      1. There’s a reason human go through puberty around 12-14; biologically, you’re ready to go. Only man-made laws create the arbitrary cutoff date.

        1. The thing that causes me the most agitation about this story is that anyone who wants to wait for the claims to be verified are automatically charged with defending pedophilia.

          1. Agreed. I mean, if Moore were sniffing around my 14 year old daughter, I’d tell him to pound sand or face 12-gauge wrath. However, by all accounts it sounds like he was respectful and didn’t cross the line. There is a *huge* objective difference between being attracted to a 14 year-old and being attracted to a 6 year-old. And even still, just being attracted to something doesn’t mean you’re going to act out and violate someone’s right and/or the law. Considering this was three decades ago and he’s been faithfully married since then, I’m willing to give him a pass.

          2. Heroic Mulatto

There is also a huge objective difference between being attracted to a 14 year-old and being attracted to a 17 year-old.

            Jus’ sayin’

          3. That’s true and age of consent is, at least for me, one of those tricky libertarian “vagueness” issues. If it’s agreed that a line must be drawn, where do you draw it? If he had actually had sex with one of these girls (current accounts say he didn’t) I’d be much less willing to hand wave it away. However, again, he seems to have been respectful and even gotten the parents’ blessing in many cases. I don’t think this fact calls into question his ability to be an effective rep. If people are looking for legit reasons to question his leadership, there’s fertile ground in his policies without having to dig up dirt from 30 years ago.

          4. If people are looking for legit reasons to question his leadership, there’s fertile ground in his policies without having to dig up dirt from 30 years ago

I get the impression that the anti-Moore faction are afraid that voters approve of Moore’s policies.

          5. Heroic Mulatto

I couldn’t care less about age of consent. If we’re looking at one’s ability to be “an effective representative”, then his actions display evidence of a severe lack of foresight and prudence, at the very least. And let’s not pretend that this was some quaint country tradition. The Jerry Lee Lewis marriage scandal was already 20 plus years ago at the time of these events; even his contemporaries would raise an eyebrow at picking up sophomores after speaking to their classes on a career day or something. Again, this was a mind-numbingly stupid thing to do that should reflect poorly in evaluations of his potential leadership.

          6. Per wiki:

“In an interview with Sean Hannity, Moore denied knowing Leigh Corfman, though admitted to having dated ‘a lot of young ladies’, including Debbie Wesson Gibson who was 17 and Gloria Thacker Deason, who was 18. He denied providing them alcohol and added ‘I don’t remember ever dating any girl without the permission of her mother.’ Hannity issued a statement that if the allegations were true Roy Moore should drop out of the Senate race.”

Of course he *would* say that. If we’re looking for mind-numbingly stupid, I’d say doing that interview at all qualifies him for that category. Even though he hasn’t been charged and the statute of limitations would have expired on anything that *did* happen, there’s a reason lawyers tell clients to STFU. The fact that he didn’t and went on national television shows how big of a retard he is.

          7. Old Man With Candy

If it’s agreed that a line must be drawn, where do you draw it?

Not “where” so much as “with what.” And for me, the correct answer is “with one of her crayons.”

          8. The fact that he didn’t and went on national television shows how big of a retard he is.

Lol, pretty much. Still don’t think he’ll lose to a Democrat in AL if he stays consistent with that story.

      2. westernsloper

The mothers of the older teenage girls were apparently encouraging their daughters to go out with him as well. I know nothing of life in AL in the 70’s, but marrying off your daughter to an up and coming young DA might not be a bad road for the girl. I agree with eagle’s summation of Moore and his weird religious pushyness, but I tend to lean toward hit job here.

I heard an NPR story the other morning about some such sexual harrassment in the 90’s. I don’t even remember the topic other than it was harassment. The NPR chic brought up Clarence Thomas, and some unknown person to show that these things do happen. Not one mention of the nations most famous rapist/harasser Bill Jefferson Clinton. The left media is a joke.

        1. Raven Nation

“Not one mention of the nations most famous rapist/harasser Bill Jefferson Clinton”

Yeah, I’ve found it irritatingly humorous that most of the people who are outraged about Trump’s comments about women, happily voted for Bill Clinton in the 1990s.

          1. Tulip

It makes me see red when other women insist that the Democrats are so much better for women. First, the obvious with the Clintons. Hillary was the one running interference and running the smear campaigns. Next, Obama’s 2008 campaign was extremely sexist against Clinton. That is what led to the PUMAs, but it is conveniently down the memory hole now. The campaign against Palin was also sexist. And then, of course, the stories about Obama’s women Whitehouse staffers having to ‘amplify’ to get their ideas any attention.

Amplifying is a coordinated strategy in which several people repeat the same proposal in a meeting to get it heard. Usually women, and it is a real thing that works surprisingly well.

So, what’s going to happen with the word progressive over time? During the Bush era, it became cool to start using the term again after it fell out of style during the Cold War. Democrats shunned the label before embracing it under Obama. But with the rampant stupidity and witch hunting occurring, it has quickly once again become uncool. At what point is it once again a label relegated for not-serious leftists? Or, is the left now so off the rails that this shit is just going to endlessly spiral down the derphole?

    1. “is the left now so off the rails that this shit is just going to endlessly spiral down the derphole?”

Well, considering they’re on a scorched earth campaign to rehabilitate the term “socialist” I’m going with this answer.

      1. Stinky Wizzleteats

The left doesn’t seem to be concerned with hiding their ultimate goals any longer. They’ll continue to embrace the word while the rest of the people in this country, hopefully, regard it with more and more derision.

          1. AlmightyJB

They just can’t help from being douchebags.

    2. AlmightyJB

Well they were progressives in the early 20th century, then after they ruined that label they stole liberal because that was a good word even though it described the opposite of what they were and it was popular. After they turned that to shit, they started using progressive again. They’re not that imagine so I’m guessing they’ll go back to liberal but who knows. Maybe they should go with Patriots since they like to call themselves things that mean the opposite of what they are.

      1. Akira

Maybe they should go with Patriots since they like to call themselves things that mean the opposite of what they are.

I do remember Obama going on a kick about “economic patriotism” (read: his notion that companies should repatriate their foreign assets to the United States so that the FedGov can tax the ever-living fucknuggets out of them).

    3. Akira

The term “progressive” doesn’t even fit. They’re intent on preserving all kinds of oppressive organizations.

They want the government to have a monopoly on all education. They want to destroy business like Uber that allow people to bypass their cartelized, unionized corporations. They want strict control over the medical profession so that they can prevent any new business models from providing people care outside of the bloated Medicare/Medicaid/insurance system.

And most of all, they want to revert to a state of government despotism under which humans lived for most of history. They don’t like this newfangled “freedom” thing.

“In subsequent court testimony after the accused sued Brown, Rodriguez admitted that she had not considered the accuser’s text messages or other post-incident behavior as having any bearing on the case. The reason, she said, was the hours of training that Brown had provided to prepare her to adjudicate the complaint—training required by the federal government. Rodriguez was specifically told that the impact of trauma on sexual-assault victims often causes them to behave in counterintuitive ways, such as not being able to recount a consistent set of facts or choosing to communicate with (rather than to avoid) the alleged assailant. “I felt like it couldn’t—I couldn’t really put myself in her shoes to understand why she was representing it that way,” explained Rodriguez, “so best not to attempt to judge her behavior.”

But judging the accuser’s behavior, noted U.S. District Judge William Smith, “was precisely her job as a panel member: to interpret the evidence and make factual determinations about it.” He added, “It appears what happened here was that a training presentation was given that resulted in at least one panelist completely disregarding an entire category of evidence”—evidence severely damaging to the accuser’s credibility.”

      Re; Moore

This is why the country is sliding towards socialism and collapse. Debt went over 20 trillion last week, Social Security sliding into the abyss, government pension funds completely underwater. Getting very quickly to the point where mandatory spending will consume over 100% of tax revenues, and then we get Weimar inflation.

The Democrats play to win. They happily elect anyone who will vote for more socialism. They don’t care about personal character. They lie their asses off to get in power, then they vote to move the country in the direction they want it to go. The Blue Dogs were elected in 2006 and 2008 on a message of common sense small town 90s liberalism. They ran against the war, against corruption. Main Street not Wall Street. They did not run on socialized medicine, but as soon as they got the chance to implement it, they voted en masse for it, and got voted out en masse for it. But they didn’t care, because they’re true believers, and the Cause is what matters.

I don’t look for personal character in politicians, I look for politicians who will vote for the right things. I have no doubt that the kindly progressive school teacher down the street is of much much higher moral character then 90% of the people in the Senate, but she would happily vote for a doubling in tax rates to fund a government takeover of the healthcare system, she would happily vote for “hate speech laws”, she would happily vote for gun control. Because she believes all those things. She is kind, she is honest, she is an upstanding person in her personal life, but given power she would enslave us all.

Roy Moore may well be a horndog cradle robber. I really don’t give a fuck, because he’s a full repeal vote on Obamacare, not a fucking RINO or a Democrat who will keep the damn thing in place and literally bankrupt the nation.

The MTA is worse than Nazis and Communists and SJWs combined. they always have been. they’re the shittiest organization on earth. i hate them with the fire of 10,000 suns.

the only people even possibly worse than them are the TWU. their “employees”. (read: their bosses)

I watch films like The Warriors and get a wee bit cross because even back in the filthy, crime-ridden NYC era they had open, working restrooms and stores/amusements in the stations. I’ve long thought the system should be sold to Disney. The fare would go up to $5 or $10 but the staff would be smiling, obsequious, beardless and efficient; the stations/rolling stock would be spotless, whimsical, and safe and the tweakers/junkies would be too enthralled and distracted by the decor to get up to mischief.
Seriously though, I do very much want the bathrooms back. I don’t like walking past the safety gate to urinate in the tunnel but the MTA forces me to do so (I did enjoy relieving myself between cars but that’s another issue… stupid locked door policy).

*part of my rage is the fact i lived @ bedford ave. aside from the hipster factor, it was insane that a 3-stop train ride routinely took over 40 mins. they were literally ‘repairing’ the tracks in the L train tunnel every single weekend. and then during the week, a few mins delay meant you faced Tokyo type crowding. the L went from bad to shit and stayed shit for 10 years. it was only ‘decent’ for a brief window in the early 2000s. it took the prize from the G as the ‘most hated train in NYC’

after the Cold War, victorious liberals made liberalism into a moral matter, a set of tenets beyond political question. Instead of defending individual and property rights and free, open markets on rational grounds, they shut down discussion by casting anyone who happened to disagree as some kind of reprehensible throwback—not just wrong, but bad.

there’s a few important kernals of truth in this piece, but i still feel something big is being missed in the analysis

        this is only partly right.

yes, the a problem is that the left adopted moral language/reasoning, and became incapable of defending their own ideas rationally.
(and i’d guess that the reason they did so was because the american right had already done so, and it was shown to be effective)

that pathos is more politically effective than logos is… well, nothing new.

what’s curious to me is why there was a very-sudden sea change in terms of how people thought about identity and nation. as recently as the late 2000s… the vdare types were a curiosity. now their boring, implicitly racist-shit is legion. same with the SJW mindset. it came to replace something. i don’t think i can even articulate what it replaced, but it happened very quickly, and it became the new toolbox of ideas that defined cultural groups.

i think his analysis makes a lot of sense for europe; particularly the absence of the soviet union as a unifying force. but it feels insufficient to explain the changes in the US

The MSA was established by a group of members of the Muslim Brotherhood in January 1963 at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with the goal of “spreading Islam as students in North America.” Today, the organization maintains its intimate affiliation with the brotherhood and a 2004 FBI investigation uncovered an internal Muslim Brotherhood document in which a brotherhood leader identified the MSA as “one of our organizations.”

With nearly 600 chapters located in the United States and Canada, the MSA is the most visible and influential Islamic student organization in North America. Through conferences and events, publications, websites and other activities, MSA disseminates and promotes radical Islamic ideologies.

The organization, which has been described as a “virtual terror factory,” includes a number of previous chapter presidents with explicit links to terrorist groups.”

ACT also runs an online database allegedly for law enforcement called the Thin Blue Line. This McCarthyite project lists the names and addresses of prominent Muslim American leaders and Muslim Student Association (MSA) chapters alongside individuals who have been arrested on terrorism charges, referring to the MSAs as “radical organizations” and the individuals as “persons of interest.”

    Sayfullo Saipov’s Miserable Job

We can’t say what exactly triggered Sayfullo Saipov’s New York City attack. But we do know his trucking job was a crummy dead end.

On October 31, Sayfullo Saipov, a twenty-nine-year-old immigrant from Uzbekistan, committed the deadliest terrorist attack in New York City since 9/11.

Nothing justifies Saipov’s murderous actions that day. Careening down a mile-long bike path in a rented Home Depot truck, he killed eight people and seriously injured many more.

His actions will only legitimize the frenzied Islamophobia many Americans already embrace, justify further military interventions in the Middle East, and likely lead to the abolition of the immigration program — the Diversity Visa Lottery Program — that allowed him to come to the United States.

The federal investigation will try to uncover why Saipov joined the Islamic State, but it will likely ignore his miserable life as a truck driver — the most plausible explanation for his growing dissatisfaction with the United States.

Before minibuses became widely used, a truck with benches placed in the bed was the typical Tanzanian privately owned public transport.[3] Called chai maharagwe, these were popular c. 1990.[2]

I did a presentation on bourbon yesterday (disclaimer: I am no kind of authority on bourbon). Some interesting bits I came across while researching:

    – There were 8000 distilleries in the US in 1880. I’m guessing most of these were low-volume outfits that served at most the local community, and maybe just an extended family. The vast majority of them closed (due to market forces?) because…

    – There were only ~580 at the start of prohibition in 1920. This is a ~93% decrease in 40 years. 2014 was the first year that there have been more distilleries in the US (588) than there were at the start of prohibition. One of my bullet points was “American distilling is still recovering from prohibition.” I was asked to elaborate on that point, and my reply was just “Prohibition killed the industry, and it had to rebuild from scratch.” But I thought more about that later, and prohibition didn’t just kill the industry, it burned it down, scattered the ashes and salted the soil. Prohibition didn’t just stop production, it destroyed the wealth and capital investment tied up in the industry, ruined companies and families, and put a 13-year break in the transfer of skills.

    – Okay, so it didn’t completely kill the industry… in 1921, physicians got a medicinal whiskey exemption passed. It was apparently stupid easy to get a prescription for whiskey, but (like psuedopehdrine) you could only get a certain amount per week, and you had to go to (and pay) your doctor and pharmacist to get a flask of crappy bourbon. Ten licenses for pharmaceutical distilleries were made available, and six were granted. One went to what is now Brown-Forman (owns Jack Daniels, Woodford, etc), one to what is now Four Roses, three to companies that have since been absorbed by British conglomerate Diageo, and one to American Medicinal Spirits:

American Medicinal Spirits (AMS, which became National Distillers, now part of Beam), formed after Prohibition began as a consolidation warehouse in Louisville, which the government mandated because it was so hard to secure whiskey stored in rural warehouses. The license AMS had came via one of the companies it bought to get whiskey stocks, Pennsylvania’s Old Overholt. Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, who gave out the licenses, gave that one to himself as the owner of Old Overholt.

    – Beam-Suntory is the third largest distilling conglomerate globally. Formed in 2014 when Suntory (a Japanese outfit that started as a winery in 1899) bought Beam, Inc, a holding company that had already purchased a number of vodka, rum, tequila, etc. brands. Beam-Suntory owns 67 different brands, including Jim Beam, Baker’s, Booker’s, Basil Hayden’s, Maker’s Mark, Knob Creek, and Laphroaig). The Japanese are very serious about high end whiskey. Suntory itself has seven different Japanese whiskey brands. Japan is the third largest export market for American bourbon, after Australia and Spain. Japan’s interest in bourbon is a significant part of the resuscitation of the bourbon industry from it’s early 1990’s low (500K barrels production annually) to it’s current strength and popularity (2M barrels annually).

    1. Gilmore

I did a presentation on bourbon

“”(hic) the FUCK You all looking at? what was i saying… oh, yeah, this company is fffucking stupid man. an yer all a bunch of fucking fags. you gonna do something? i thought not. i gotta take a piss.””

    2. l0b0t

That’s fascinating, thanks. I’m tucking into some Buffalo Trace right now. My local package store carries a good 70 or 80 Bourbons and I like trying new things. The Japanese offerings, of which they have 10 or so, seem pretty pricey; how do they compare to domestic and are there 1 or 2 that should not be missed?

      1. Grummun

You’re asking the wrong person about the fine points of whiskey tasting. Subtle notes are largely lost on me; I can discern a bourbon with a high rye content, or something markedly sweeter than ordinary, but I couldn’t spot delicate florals or fruitiness with a guide and a map. And anyway, I live in Ohio, so I’m lucky to see anything out of the mainstream, I was amazed to see a Colorado label that my niece is fond of. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a bottle of Japanese whiskey.

    3. MikeS

Great write-up Grumman. You should see if you can publish your presentation here.

It’s also very timely. In a couple hours I’ll be at Whiskey Fest at a small distiller in northwest Minnesota. Far North Spririts. They are “field to glass” distiller. I love, love, love their Rye. It should be a good time.

      1. Grummun

Thanks, I might try that. The presentation was largely an overview of history and production; I had a whole section on regulation and taxes that I cut, in part for time, and in part due to the nature of the audience ::makes vigorous flapping motion with left elbow:: I’m guessing this audience would be more interested in that aspect (and rather more likely to pick apart my factual errors on the production part).

Fun fact, apropos of nothing: a surprising number of people have no idea there is a distinction between sweet corn and field corn.
