So, wifey wants a cat, gato, feline.
She wants a Maine Coon, or a Rag doll. I suggested a Savannah to her because I think they’re more dog like, and she’s never owned a cat, only dogs, but she likes the fluffy cute look of the Maine Coons. Anyone here have one of the big cat breeds and can give advice?

Also, the biggest mistake dog owners make when first getting a cat is trying to play with them like dogs. Cats don’t play like dogs.
I’ve sort of got her covered, I’ve owned cats since I was like 4 years old. Yeah, they’re cute, and not dogs.
Russian Blue. That’s what I’ve got and he’s a delight. Least asshole cat I’ve ever known.
I had 2 of them when I was in my teens. Very athletic critters.
I have a tuxedo ragdoll mix of some kind*. She is the most loving cat I have ever encountered, which is apparently the ragdoll side. Holy crap, I’ve never seen a cat like this before. She just follows you around the house blabbing and wants cuddles all the time. So if you want friendly, there’s that. Granted, every cat is an individual, of course. But supposedly this is a ragdoll thing.
*Note: she was a shelter cat. Got her at 2 months. They said she’s a ragdoll mix, and her personality seems to fit what they say online, but there’s no way of actually knowing. I am not liable if you get a ragdoll and it’s an asshole.
Ragdoll all the way if you like to hold, snuggle, pet, etc. I’ve had several cats and my ragdoll is my favorite.
My avatar is our former Maine Coon, Tigger. 26 pound male. Maine Coons are very even-tempered cats (unlike savannahs) but they are prone to heart problems and obesity. Tigger was on diltiazem for most of his life and eventually became diabetic; still lived to be 16. I would love to have another maine coon but we already have a houseful as it is.
I don’t know why but I really like the short hair on her.
She reminds me of the chick from Terminator 3.
She really has something for everyone.
