Thicc Thursday

Some people erronously believe the booty is the end all and be all of thicc. As leeloandstitch shows us, this is not true. Thicc is a complete female somatotype that involves a specific distribution of gynoid adipose tissue and muscle leading to a certain bust to waist to hip ratio that signals fecundity, leading to activation of the amygdala via the limbic system, which in turn triggers penile erection.

      Superb.

The Trump admin may be a clownshow, but Ajit Pai is a goddamn hero. I don’t know how he managed to staff so many agencies with just the right people for the job.

      1. I think his main skill is in Human Resource management. Trump doesn’t know much about much of anything, but knows how to pick the right people for the right job or at least recognise when the person picked is not working out and replace them.

        1. commodious spittoon

It makes me real nervous what we can expect in three years. The left is shifting ever more socialist, and the last gasps of sanity are being gasped by… Trump. Who may toxify conservatism for generations. So a couple years of mediocre to okay policy that barely holds the line against the tide of terrible ideas may give way to a couple decades of European-style politics. I’m not enthused about the future.

          1. DOOMco

            That’s fucking frightening

          2. commodious spittoon

Or we get a political death spiral, with whatever ideology ends up parading around in the Republican skinsuit shutting out genuine conservatives and championing white racialists, and trading power with the commie left doing the same for ethnics. The Bannon consequence, I call it.

          3. There is still a large mass of ‘normies’ who are starting to have a “what the fuck?” reaction to the leftwards race. I don’t think the mad dash is selling all that well, or will sell better the more frothing insanity spills from the media talking heads.

          4. trshmnstr

I don’t think the republic lasts too long if conservatism becomes verboten in political circles. Trump, in essence, is the canary in the coal mine for a lot of flyover country. If “the swamp” ends up killing the canary, a lot of people are bailing out.

What does “bailing out” mean? Anything from detaching from politics to shooting people, depending on the specific situation.

          5. commodious spittoon

Man, I think modern Europe and Australia are what we can expect: a future in which the “conservative” semi-permanent opposition party is effectively the less-totally-authoritarian socialist party. I’m starting to worry that Fukuyama may have been right about liberal democracy: it’s all downhill from her. Humanity simply isn’t capable of developing stable communities into the nation-state model. Eventually it’s all special interest groups working, not just at the expense of, but in opposition to, its own fellow citizens’ needs. I worry that Marxism isn’t just an aberration, but possibly a natural outgrowth of human thought on how to construct social arrangements.

          6. trshmnstr

Man, I think modern Europe and Australia are what we can expect: a future in which the “conservative” semi-permanent opposition party is effectively the less-totally-authoritarian socialist party.

The big difference here is the 2nd Amdmt. I don’t think that a subservient conservative opposition party would fly in a country where the real power (might makes right) is spread out across the entire country.

          7. commodious spittoon

I think we can be ground down into obedience, over generations.

Burke talked about the gradual development of society like it’s a piece of precious stone that needs milling, rubbing off the burrs only gradually, to preserve the good parts at the expense of the bad.

I wonder whether he got it wrong: eventually we’ll be ground down into dust, all of us, in service to the Marxist urge to exfoliate the past to vouchsafe the new, whatever it is. And in that pattern, that evolving, cancerous pattern, we’re led into ruin, into another feudal existence, simply because we are incapable of maintaining social order in the metastatic social nightmare that the Marxists lead us.

          8. Gadfly

I worry that Marxism isn’t just an aberration, but possibly a natural outgrowth of human thought on how to construct social arrangements.

Marxism is an aberration, but totalitarianism is not. Look to history, and Marxist states, which strive for equality and creating a new man, have not lasted long, while totalitarian states represent the most common and long lasting forms of government in the history of man. In implementation it may be a subtle difference (what does it matter if the boot stomping on your face is red or blue? what does it matter that you can still own property and business if it can be raided at whim?), but the heart of the matter is a drastic difference: people don’t want to be equal, they want to control or be controlled.

          9. Gadfly

Who may toxify conservatism for generations.

While there may be a backlash against Trump (although it will be interesting to see how his unpopularity collides with a dramatically improving economy), I would not take the bet that he is capable of making conservatism toxic for a generation. For an election cycle or two, maybe, but if Bush II (war on terror), Bush I (read my lips), Nixon (Watergate), and Goldwater (the first Nazi Republican) were not able to sink it, Trump won’t be able to either. The thing is, Republicans may have a terrible time governing, but Democrats do too. If they ride a progressive wave back into power, there will be strong pressure to do something big for the progressive cause, and with the exception of FDR that usually doesn’t go over well. Although it must be conceded, lasting damage is always done, so I guess a gloomy prognosis is not out of the question.

        2. Rhywun

Trump doesn’t know much about much of anything

Most managers don’t. It’s high time the American public stop hero-worshipping the office and expecting them to be sooper geniuses.

  8. Is this disclaimer new, or did I miss it before:

    1. Heroic Mulatto

I believe it was there from day 1.

      1. I guess I just missed it.

I missed it because it hides under monocle.

          1. trshmnstr

The footer was different up until a few weeks back. It used to have links and stuff, and the copyright disclaimer was in the “Disclaimer/Legal Stuff” link.

          2. DOOMco

ah. I wasn’t looking till UCS quoted it.

            Thanks again for monocle.

          3. trshmnstr

The only reason I know what the footer looked like is because monocle used to interact with the footer before I figured out how to properly refresh the comments.

I’m glad that monocle is working well for you… the dev team did some good work.

My next experiment when I have a few free days is to try to build a new version that uses SP’s top and bottom buttons as a template. That and try to clean up some of the bugs.

          4. Rhywun

I had Stylished out the footer because it was too big and didn’t play well with monocle. My Glibs tweaks are very minor compared to TOS where my Stylish file was like a mile long.

          5. I had to install fascr for ToS, but here the only thing I’ve done is disable image animation. The site is much more usable in its vanilla state.

          6. MikeS

            Thanks again for monocle.

      2. Yusef drives a Kia

How is that enforceable? Each author? If I write a song it’s Mine, unless I give others credit, Splain?

        1. It means works submitted to Glibs do not involve implied transfer of rights to glibs.

ie, if I gave them a story to serialize, I would still be fully within my rights to put it in one of the volumes I sold for profit. Thus the implied agreement is that the submission is a license for Glibs to publish the content on their platform and not a transfer of ownership.

Bought a bottle of McClelland’s Islay single malt. I expected it’s cheap piss because it was indeed cheap. I haven’t got a very refined palette–I’ve had pricey glasses of Islay whiskies, and I do love a very smokey, peaty whiskey–but I can’t break down the nose or flavor profile in anything other than the most superficial terms. So I’ll say this: it’s not total piss. Kinda bland, though. A little sweet. The peatiness isn’t what I normally like. I love genuinely earthy scotch. This is passable and clean, the hints are all there, but they don’t lead to any big revelation. It’s rather like your lover leaving you a trail of rose petals, only to find her at the end of it in sweatpants watching Netflix. There’s nothing wrong with Netflix and chill, and for 28 bucks, it’s not like I should expect any better. But dang, it’s a bit of a disappointment.

  12. Anyone work with Jax pewter black before? I’m trying to find a surface conditioner to help primer not slough off of white metal. Preferably one that will not damage plastic or epoxy (the model Is a kitbash of white metal, plastic and ‘green stuff’)

    1. Yusef drives a Kia

Try some fine sandpaper for the white metal, like 400-800 grit and soften the white metal up, creates more surface area for the primer to cling to

      1. There’s one problem with that plan.

This is the same base body as the one I’m working on. physical abrasion without damaging detail would be difficult, which is why I was looking for a chemical solution (no pun intended)

        1. DenverJ

Paint, etc., Won’t adhere to a smooth surface, thus the usual practice of sanding.
          The alternative is acid etching.

          1. DenverJ

What material are the figures made from?

          2. the model Is a kitbash of white metal, plastic and ‘green stuff’ (Epoxy putty)

          3. DenverJ

Hmm. Ok, everything is pretty soft. You don’t want to use, say, muriatic acid. I’m under the understanding that these are small models?
I would pick one, or use a test piece of the same material, and try vinegar. Vinegar will etch soft metals quite well, and still be safe for plastics (within reason)
If that’s not aggressive enough (paint doesn’t stick because surface is still too smooth), try using a small paint brush or qtip to apply very diluted muriatic acid

a certain bust to waist to hip ratio that signals fecundity, leading to activation of the amygdala via the limbic system, which in turn triggers penile erection

Has anyone else come across the “theory” – more like “old wives’ tale” – that the Gay is more common among the youngest siblings in a family? I remember hearing this a few decades ago and anecdotal follow-ups were inconclusive but leaning in that direction.

    1. Yusef drives a Kia

Why the Youngest? Mom tired of Breastfeeding? seriously

      1. The hypothesis is that there is a hormonal impact each time a boy gestates, and that causes a different in utero environment for each successive son.

I think the idea was something along the lines of superfluous kids (more than say 3) aren’t needed to propagate the species.

All I know is asked a bunch of my friends and most of us were the youngest of 3 or more siblings.

        1. Heroic Mulatto

My Gay Friend (TM) is number 4 of 4 kids.

        2. DenverJ

I think Uncivil had it right: each succeeding child has less male hormones, or some such
I was the second born in a family with six children, only one girl, who was the middle.
My youngest brother, a wonderful man with a wonderful family, is indeed the baby of the family, and perhaps less masculine (although still quite hetero).
I think the amount of births before has an effect, but there are many factors involved.

          1. Rhywun

            less male hormones

I have to guess that some hormones control the urge to procreate and some don’t.

I may be gay but I’m all man, baby.

          2. Yusef drives a Kia

You must be a Man, you don’t sound Gay

/doesn’t know what Gay sounds like

        3. Gadfly

I think the idea was something along the lines of superfluous kids (more than say 3) aren’t needed to propagate the species.

Until the plague hits, then you need those extra munchkins. There’s a reason why ancient monarchs always wanted “an heir and a spare”, even though the proliferation of male royals could be detrimental to the monarch’s health. I’d imagine if there’s anything to the birth order, limiting the propagation of the species doesn’t play a part.

    2. Nephilium

I know of one guy who had both of his brothers (one younger, one older) come out. Other then that, the only birth order effects I remember reading about was that the oldest usually scored higher on IQ tests, but younger siblings were usually better in social situations (and that a 3 year gap rest both effects/hopes).

      1. Rhywun

younger siblings were usually better in social situations

LOL I am the exception there. (Youngest of 4 males with 6 year gap to the next youngest)

        1. Nephilium

So you got the high IQ score reset. Of course, based on a quick Google search the difference all of this is based on the IQ side is a whopping 2.3 points. Which is well within the margin of error for any IQ test I ever took.

      2. Rhywun

I knew a set of 3 brothers in – a previous town. One more than the rest…

        1. MikeS

          …the youngest one?

    3. one true athena

I have only anecdotal “evidence” but my mom is one of eleven children, including 8 brothers. One brother was gay (with attendant ‘get out of my house’ from old school German Baptist dad in the 50’s. No one in the family has heard from him since he was thrown out). However that uncle was third boy (fifth counting girls). The youngest, baby of the family is – I presume – het, married to the same woman for twenty something years, and father of two.

Car guy Mechanic or Car enthusiast never used low rev rpm, most of them drives like a Nascar racer and uses mostly high rev RPM, it doesnt matter daily driver or weekend driver WHENEVER I DRIVE MY CAR my RPM always at 6000RPM lowest is 4000RPM.

Those who don’t rev up their engine most of them are OLD MEN, WOMEN, SCARE of speed or noise, speed, one of my co-worker he drives like an old lady everytime he’s on that road he blocks the whole traffic.

So if you like Speed and aggressive driving Intake System and Exhaust are best for ya, if you’re Gay don’t even drive a Car, walking or Bicycle are for you.

Anyone here ever watch Sons of Anarchy?

    God that show sucks.

    1. Chipwooder

It’s trash, but it was fun trash, at least before the last two seasons. The final season was just pure shit.

    1. Aerozppln

He never had a chance with the media because Big Oil. The worst part for them is that he’s done a decent job.

At least the best since Her Highness.

The real reason these rumors keep swirling is very simple: he wants to cut the Department of State’s budget by 30% and the number of employees by 8%.

If he had come in and called for everyone to get a raise, you would see tons of leaked stories about how he’s a “shockingly competent man, for an outsider” and is “earning the respect of tenured diplomatic professionals with his fresh approach and outside the box thinking”

        It’s always about the money.

Something about a 750 million dollar embassy maybe?
          Slavers

    2. Suthenboy

Why would he quit over something that WaPo says that has probably zero relationship to reality? For that matter, why does anyone listen to anything WaPo has to say? If Pinocchio owned that place the price of timber would be tanking like the Titanic.

Look, Gustave, Trump is literally Hitler. Lit er al ly
You don’t want to stop him because you are part of the White patriarchy. Tillerson is just trying to escape the guilt of being born a White Man. And you are trying to stop him from becoming woke to the plight of POC, the LGTBQWERTY community, v and other persons of intersectionality.

            Ha!

    2. MikeS

      For starters, Steely Dan sucks.

Second, they named their band after a dildo

Third, they released that fucking horrible (and super creepy) Cousin Dupree song in the early 00’s:

      Honey how you’ve grown
      Like a rose
      Well we used to play
      When we were three
How about a kiss for your cousin Dupree
How about a kiss for your cousin Dupree

I’ll teach you everything I know
If you teach me how to do that dance
Life is short and quid pro quo
And what’s so strange about a down-home family romance?

      1. DenverJ

I don’t know, that it’s right before my music awareness horizon. But didn’t they do that don’t about the windshield wipers beating out the tempo to the song on the radio? I think I liked that one

        1. DenverJ

Oh no, Google says that was Eddie Rabbit

          1. MikeS

            I Love a Rainy Night

          2. MikeS

Ah yeah. Another good tune. I got them mixed up.

        2. DenverJ

You know, I haven’t heard that in a while. Huh, he’s no Jackson Brown, but those line is pretty good:
“Those windshield wipers slappin’ outta tempo
Keepin’ perfect rhythm with the song on the radio”

          1. MikeS

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; You are my favorite robot.

          2. DenverJ

            Aww thanks, gimme a hug
*Rifles through Mike’s pockets, steals wallet, phone, and watch* You’re my favorite, too!

          3. DenverJ

Actually, if you can listen that one all the way through, you’ve got ears of steel

          4. MikeS

It is tad…saccharine. I listened all the way through and now I’m good for another 5 years.

*puts in headphones and hits PLAY on some Megadeath*

  19. DenverJ

But, just to hear myself think, there appears to be s time in the latter ’70s when truckers were considered cool, maybe even outlaws and rebels. I think Smokey and the Bandit was temporally close.
    Huh.

    1. AlmightyJB

+ Convoy. 10-4 rubber duck. I think it was the whole CB craze.
